Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Here we go on a Thursday, Roland as usual, live
in Los Angeles. It's the Herd wherever you may be
and however you may be listening. Thanks for making us
part of your day. Jmack, Greg Cosel in one hour
from now one of my favorite fifteen minutes of the week.
You play fantasy football, you bet on football. You want
to get smarter on football. Greg Cosel one hour from now,
(00:50):
So Jmax. Sometimes you can't chase the almighty dollar. If
you own a company, you have to create an identity
and approach. I'm not talking about individuals individually you go
chase the money, but if you're forming a company, if
you run a company, you've got to have an identity
or an approach. And it can't all be about one
(01:11):
hundred percent just chasing every dollar because you're trying to
create a brand. You're trying to sell that to your employees, right.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
That's entrepreneur action to start the shale I lofe.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Yeah, So I was thinking about this. So tonight the Steelers,
a great franchise, a lot of trophies, go to Cleveland
to face the lousy Browns who are lousy again. But
here's what's funny. Mike Tomlin has always been a terrible
Thursday night coach. In fact, Pittsburgh is oh and seven
since nineteen eighty when competing against his division on Thursday
(01:44):
Night football, and overall on the road, he's two and eight. Now,
how is that possible? Why is this happening? So whenever
I see data that veers away from the standard production
of a person or a business, there's got to be
a reason. And I believe there is a reason. And
(02:04):
I believe Mike Tomlin stands not only on business, that
he stands for something here. It is so reportedly Mike
Tomlin and the Steelers have the hardest most physical training
camps in the NFL. They hit, they're relentless. That is
his identity. You don't think of the Steelers and schemes.
(02:25):
You don't think of the Steelers. Steelers an offensive wizardry.
You think tough and physical. Mike's the most tough and
physical coach in the NFL, and his teams are. And
my guess, why can Mike Tomlin be so good on
Sunday and so terrible on Thursday. Because he's old school
(02:45):
and he views Thursday night football as unnecessary and he's
not going to change his approach. His take is I'm
in it for the war, not the battle. Chick Full
does this. Chick fil A says we're not open for
business on Sunday. They could make four billion dollars if
(03:05):
they were open on Sunday, but they make twenty two
billion Monday through Saturday. Their identity is great chicken, and
they're closed on Sunday, faith and family. Sunday they could
make another four billion. They're making twenty two point three
and growing fast. I went there the other day. It
(03:27):
was three in the afternoon. There were still line. The
spicy sandwich is outstanding. They're not chasing the dollar. Oh,
they want revenue. They've built an empire, but they won't
change their identity to playcate or appeal to their critics.
(03:47):
I respect that, and so Tomlin is saying, listen, our
physical style, this is what we are. You make us
play a game once a year on Thursday with three
fewer days rest. When I ask my players to be
more physical in camp, more hitting during the week, more
(04:09):
physical than any team, it's our identity. I'm gonna punt.
I'm not saying I want to lose, but I'm not
changing my approach. And to prove this, when you give
the Steelers extra rest, one day extra rest, they're unbeatable
on Monday. They've won twenty two straight games Monday night
(04:31):
football at home. So thing about this Mike Tomlin Sunday good,
Monday excellent. He will not forego or alter his identity
or his physical culture because he asks more of his players.
He asked his players to hit harder, work harder, wear
pads more often, up to league You know, ceiling. You're
(04:59):
not gonna change his idea. It's the only thing that
explains why this team is so great with extra rest,
very very good with normal rest, and terrible with short rest.
Here's Mike Tomlin on facing the Cleveland Browns tonight.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
I know, as a collective, we better be prepared for
a hostile environment. The dog Pound, etc. And so we
got some new people, whether they're new to us and
new to the National Football League, they need some quick
education while we do the physical work that's necessary to
position ourselves for performance.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
It's a great message. Don't change your approach in life,
don't change your identity in life chasing something that isn't necessary,
which is perfection. Nobody's gonna go seventeen to O. The
teams that win the Super Bowl don't go seventeen to no.
So don't change your approach. Don't pray at the altar
(05:58):
of revenue on every corner. I'm not saying you shouldn't
take a better job, but when you're building something in
asking a lot of others beyond yourself, you've got an identity.
Stick with it. If they want to put someone on
a streaming service on Thursdays, maybe we win, Maybe we don't.
Seventeen to zero, no proof. It's better than twelve and
(06:20):
five and winning the division again. So this happened yesterday.
I've said before I don't think you need to announce
when you're leaving social media. Don't let the door hitch
on the way out. We'll all be fine. So Lebron
James said yesterday, I am taking a break from social media.
(06:41):
He said, it's just too negative. I'll haul it you
down the road getting off social take care. Damn shame
what it's come to. So Lebron can't control X. Okay,
and Lebron, first of all, is a forty year old
man with a great family in a business, full time job.
(07:02):
He shouldn't be on social media that much once you're
in your forties or close to your forties, running a
big business with a big family. It doesn't drive the
revenue for his business. Shoes do production company does? That
would sell for five hundred million today his annual salary
of almost forty million. Lebron has also had a lot
of control in his life over the Heat, over the Calves,
(07:24):
over the Lakers, over the NBA. He's had massive leverage
and I don't resent any of it. He has earned
all all his leverage. Been a fan since Lebron came
into the league. And he's also used social media platform
since day one to stay relevant to you know, promote
(07:45):
his businesses, to help his empire. Certainly granualar improvement, but
he helps promote his businesses. He gets the game of
social media. So to suddenly be deeply offended by the
hellscape known as X. It feels kind of Hollywood. It's
(08:05):
like that crazy aunt you have who suddenly, at fifty
five announces I'm no longer writing the family newsletter. Oh okay, Margo,
we know you're into it. Just take a deep breath.
Couple of weeks off, the newsletter will arrive and Lebron
will come back. All I'm saying is you can leave.
(08:26):
You probably should take breaks. Family empire. You don't want
to be on it all day, but don't take it
that seriously. Use it, don't use it. I don't care.
I don't resent anything Lebron's done ever, leverage, achievement, revenue, accomplishments.
I don't resent any of it. But this does feel
(08:47):
sort of like when you were nine years old and
told your family I'm running away, and your mom said, okay,
see at dinner. It's social media. You get the game.
You've used it for twenty years to your advantage. You'll
be back. You're taking a break. Any time anybody announces
(09:12):
they're leaving anything, you know why they're doing it, don't you,
Because they want you to say, don't go. Please if
you want to leave the party, the bar, the lounge,
do what they call, what's it called an Irish exit?
Just walk out.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
You'll be back.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
You want to join your friends, promote your business. People
aren't picking on Brownie. He's a six ' to one
two guard. They don't exist in the sport, and many
believe you used your power to wedge him in to
the organization. In fact, there are reports more than one
(09:50):
that the Lakers told other teams to not draft him.
You play the game, but the game has two outcomes,
some positive, some negative. You'll be back just like I
was at nine years old for dinner. All right. We
got a lot of stuff going on today, a lot
(10:11):
of balls in the air. If you will, it's in
our world we live in now. If you're even kind
of good, people know about you. If you're great, you're worshiped.
Is there one person in the world of football in
America that is great and is actually undervalued and underrated,
(10:35):
and we'll talk about that person. I believe there is next.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and Noone Easter non a em Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
You're now entering the No Ball zone sponsored by credible
great rates none of the ball. So I was thinking
about this generally, when people are great, we all know
they're great. Everybody knows Vince Barti is great and Bill
Belichick was great. People have asked me throughout the years
two or three best coaches all time, And I've always
felt Bill Walsh, Bill Belichick, and Andy Reid. But everybody
(11:10):
knows and worships at the altar of the late Bill
Walsh and the current Bill Belichick. And there was outrage
when seventy year old Belichick, off struggling seasons and weird
coordinator choices and awful drafts, didn't get like multiple job offers.
And here's Andy Reid. So the NFL. He's going for
his nineteenth ten win season on Sunday. I think they
(11:33):
played Carolina. He'll get it. So I think he is
just historically underrated the NFL. The premise, though, is the
NFL was built on physicality and brutality. We all grew
up with defense, wins championships. In fact, in the seventies
and eighties and nineties, if you look at the NFL promos,
the hits they show are now outlawed. The CTE lawsuit
(11:56):
Roger Goodell had several owners, including Jerry Jones, say hey, hey,
we're paying quarterbacks now twenty thirty forty million dollars protect
our assets. And so suddenly the NFL changed rules. In
twenty fourteen, you couldn't grab wide receivers at the line
of scrimmage advantage offense. In twenty eighteen, they enhanced roughing
(12:17):
the passer. In twenty seventeen, head shots, you're out of
the game again. Now wide receivers can go over the middle.
By the way, those are all excellent moves. The game
is now smarter, The game is now safer, and despite
players getting bigger, stronger, and faster, the level of violence
has gone up because human beings get bigger, stronger, and faster. Generally,
(12:38):
you get to a Super Bowl and everybody's got all
their starters. It's pretty remarkable. They've extended the season. The
game's more physical, but they outlawed the dumb stuff that
you didn't need. Nobody watched for. And while they've done
that over the last ten years, Andy Reid is dominated now.
Andy Reid won when the rules worked against him. He
(13:00):
got to Super Bowls. He dominated the NFC with five
appearances in the NFC Championship with B and C level quarterbacks,
but once the game veered toward him with Alex Smith
and Mahomes ten wins, ten wins, ten wins minimum. And
my takeaway is the first twenty five years he's had
twenty five year head coaching career, the first fifteen years
(13:21):
the rules worked against him, and he still won. They
still had an incredibly winning organization in Philly with out
star quarterbacks. Belichick, once he got the rules pivoting against him,
can't win. Maybe he will in the future, But his
last three or four years defensive coordinator named offensive coordinator,
(13:44):
he was out of touch. He was tone deaf. Andy
won when the rules worked against him, and now he
dominates when the rules worked for him. And I think,
you know, sometimes the world changes for you. A great
examples Pete Maryvich only one year of his career and
he was an old, old player. Did they have a
(14:04):
three point shot? Pete Maravich born too early? His creativity
is long range shooting. If he was born twenty years ago,
Pete Marrivitch breaking into the NBA, would he would be
like Steph Curry with better handles. He'd be an unbelievable
superstar back then, he was kind of quirky and weird
(14:26):
and wild and a wizard and never really panned out
to the NBA like you thought he would. So Andy
Reid is fortunate that as he's aged, finally the league
getting smarter and safer, has pivoted in his direction. But
it worked against him for years, and he was still
(14:47):
winning when it worked against him. J Mack with a news, No.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
News, this is the herd line news, all right, Collin.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
We loved Jim Harbaugh in these waters and he just
keeps saying awesome stuff. Jim Harbaugh is hyping Justin Herbert again.
He spoke this week about what makes his quarterback.
Speaker 6 (15:07):
So great Talent and effort and then some then then
you know, just intangibles that are off the chart, every
every measurable you could have for a quarterback, tangible or intangible.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
Enjoy it.
Speaker 6 (15:26):
He's he's not only one of the best in the
game currently, he's he's one of he's one of the
best of all time.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Nothing.
Speaker 6 (15:37):
I'm going out on a on a on a really
call it on a ledge and a limb. I do
not feel at all like I'm going out of limb
and saying that all right.
Speaker 5 (15:49):
So before you laugh and scoff a, scoff, I love Herbert. Okay,
all right, we actually our staff was able to pull
some numbers through five seasons where justin Herbert all time.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
This is staggering. I did not know this. He's number
one in completions in the history of football through first five.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Seasons with two coaches, one a complete disaster and one
that didn't work.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
He's a backup.
Speaker 5 (16:11):
Coaching sixth in touchdown passes, fourth and passing yards. I
know it's just a couple of stats, a couple data points.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Not the end of the world.
Speaker 5 (16:18):
But let's be real here, Herbert is on a trajectory
to be one of the all time greats.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
I don't think there's anywhere ask yourself this to brains
matter four point two college grad tutor in biology, de
size matter, big mobility, check arm strength. Check what doesn't
he have? He doesn't quite have the touch of Joe
Burrow or the elusiveness of Lamar Jackson. It's close, but
he is an a minus in every single box. Mahomes
(16:46):
is the only other guy and maybe Josh Allen that
are an A minus minimum in every box. There's just
not many people on the planet.
Speaker 5 (16:53):
I know there's people listening, Oh, playoff wins does he have?
And that's why this okay, wins is not a quarterback
stat that's gone guy at a sports bar. He's got
a playoff win. Again, had the worst coach in the
league for two years in Brandon Staley.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
That's not an argument. If you look like he got.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
To the playoffs and they choked against the Jaguars. Remember
they had that huge lead. We were watching that game together.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Who what time out? Oh you're right to Jags many, Yeah,
you're right.
Speaker 3 (17:18):
So he doesn't have a playoff win yet, but that
doesn't matter.
Speaker 5 (17:21):
Like if you look at the intangibles, look at the numbers,
Herbert is on a trajectory. I mean I tried to
tell the producer, like, is Herbert already a top twenty
five quarterback all time?
Speaker 3 (17:31):
And you know people, well he doesn't have Super Bowl wins.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
Well, here's the thing, here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
It's it's easy.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
I always think my favorite I think a cool job
would be a baseball scout or an NFL scout where
you find gems. Anybody can say, now, hey, Josh Allen's good.
Any dope can say that. But It's fascinating to find
Josh Allen when he's at Wyoming, like scouts, did you
know John Snyder at Seattle as junior year is like, yeah,
this kid's not winning any games. That is a prospect.
(18:01):
That's a general manager that knows what the hell they're doing.
When you can find a guy that's not winning games.
Patrick Mahomes had a losing record. Andy Reid and Brett
Feach are like, that's the next Brett Farv. He can't
even win in the Big twelve. Any dope can look
at an Oklahoma quarterback you know when Lincoln was there,
and go, well, it's a pretty good quarterback. You have
a great offensive coach when you can't win games in
(18:22):
college like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes the two best
quarterbacks in the league, and you can spot him. Or
you're Joe Burrow and you had to transfer because Ohio
State wouldn't even play you. You go to LSU, he
loses his junior year.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
He's not winning that many Gamestown backs.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
So it's like Justin Herbert's great. The smart people, Noah
and the other people are just waiting for him to
win a bunch of games. Like if you can't see
him and his greatness. There's nothing I can do for you.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
And you know, listen, I know the whole two got
taken before him. We like Duah. He's good, he's fine,
he's not yeah, discussed at all time.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Great, he's not close to her.
Speaker 5 (18:56):
But you can't even go to cold Weather and win games,
by the way, Christmas, Dave, Dolphins, Packers, like I don't know,
like Justin. Herbert goes anywhere he's in competition to win.
I love Herbert a lot.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
It's interesting.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
You're gonna go to Rams Chargers on Monday Night football.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
Here this week?
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Yeah, well, you know, in five days or whatever I thought,
the Rams played. I'm sorry. Chargers Ravens the Hardball Bowl.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
That's a great game.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Colin, you got to get there.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
I may do that.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
Yeah, wife will give you the hall pass behind.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
I have not been invited.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
I mean, Jim Harball comes on the show.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
JK.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Dobbins comes on the show. I don't think it'll be
a problem, all right, man.
Speaker 5 (19:32):
Next story is the Green Bay Packers twenty twenty three
season ended with a tough loss to the Niners.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
They led for much of that game. Great comeback by
Brock Perty.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
Anyways, Sunday on Fox, green Bay is looking to get
revenge against a struggling San Francisco team. Jordan Love says,
they do want that revenge.
Speaker 7 (19:50):
I think just ending the season, you know, get into
the playoffs and you know, being knocked out by the
forty nine ers.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
I mean, any whoever it would have been.
Speaker 7 (19:58):
You know that that game is definitely gonna sit with you,
and you know that's what you gotta you know, kind
of just sit with all off season is going back
watching that game, kind of trying to see what you
could have been better, what you could have done differently
in that game. So it definitely stits with you through
the offseason and then obviously move on. But yeah, just
knowing that that's the team that knocked us out, you know,
we're definitely hungry for this game.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
Yeah. The it's very very weird line movement. So the
money is on the Niners. It started two and a half,
it's down to one and a half and I like
green Bay.
Speaker 5 (20:28):
Rock Perty did not throw it practice yesterday. He was there,
he just didn't throw.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
I don't get the movement of the line. Green Bay
at home played poorly and one brought Purty's not healthy.
That's a really weird line move.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
So that game, do you remember that game last year?
That playoff game? It was incredible.
Speaker 5 (20:49):
Aaron Jones had a couple of huge plays for the Packers,
and then of course fourth quarter was dominated by san
fran the key touchdown drive late by Purdy.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
I kind of them with you. I think it's Packers
or nothing here, but I don't want to. I don't
want to fade the Niners when we have one of.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
The best teams and one of the best rosters in
the league.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
I'm not going to fade the Lions or the Eagles
right here.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
You're not going Colts this week?
Speaker 1 (21:17):
No, No, I'm not fading certain Juggernauts, but fading the
Niners at five and five. I don't have a problem
with that.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
Kyle shanahanah pretty good coach.
Speaker 5 (21:27):
And this is this is the biggest must win this
week in the NFL for the Niners. You can't lose
this and face Buffalo the following week off of Buffalo, off.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Of bye, then it's really over. So this I think
this is the biggest game on the slate this week.
Niners Packers. It's must win for the Niners, plus if
Arizona wins, they're there now up to with the tiebreaker. Colin,
It's it's dire time. Final story. Is the Detroit Lions
best team.
Speaker 5 (21:52):
In the NFL At nine and one dominant victory in
week eleven, they're averaging thirty two points per game. Jared Gofflin,
it's the team to avoid complacency as they head into
the final weeks of the regular season. Goff said on
Wednesday that none of this is easy and it takes
a lot of hard work to keep playing at a
high level.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
So he's setting a high bar for them.
Speaker 5 (22:14):
That's your goff talking to the media, Colin, is the
pressure on Detroit now that they are officially the hunted?
Speaker 3 (22:22):
No.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
I think generally in the NFL, we're in week twelve now.
I think most years, not all years. There was the
Brady Bucks team that caught fire in like week thirteen.
I think in most years we have a pretty good
sense by week twelve. The two or three teams that
feel like Super Bowl teams, Kansas City, Buffalo, and Detroit
feel like they're sort of separating from the class. Philadelphia
(22:48):
is probably four because they're overall rosters insane and then
there's a drop off.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
Baltimore.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
No, Baltimore's defense is too bad. It's like a bad bullpen.
You can't World Series with a terrible bullpen. You can't
win a Super Bowl with a bad secondary, bad defense,
because you can dominate a game and you give up
leads late. Just like they lost to Kansas City this year.
You know what they lost to the Raiders. They outplay
teams and lose. Detroit can get out played, throw five
(23:16):
picks on the road and win. That's the difference between
holding a trophy and ending up shy.
Speaker 5 (23:23):
You don't think there's a dangerous spot at all this
week going to Indy.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
No, they're playing.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
They're hosting the Bears by the way on Thanksgiving. Divisional game,
short week. No, no, no, no, the Colts is the side. Okay,
the Colts is the side. But I think the Lions
will figure out a way to win.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
But listen seven and a half at home, Anthony richardson
playing now with confidence. It's a short You know Detroit's
looking ahead to a division game, no question.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
I'll have some stuff for you tomorrow on that game
in headlines if you're interested in All right, Okay, getting
in front of trades and getting run over JM for
the news.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by. That's
the herd Line News.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
So you know, we were talking about Jim Harbaugh, and
you know, in this business, my job is to have opinions.
Sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong. But but and by
the way, people say you flip flop if I get
new information, I don't flip flop. Or I do flip
flop if I get new information. But if I don't,
I don't flip flop. Like Jim Harbaugh forever forever I
(24:27):
got heat, I'm like, no, you're wrong. He will be
to Ohio State convincingly. At some point I didn't. I
didn't flip flop. Harball was great day one. You kept
throwing arrows, the bloggers, the internet trolls. I don't care.
Carmelo Anthony, I said fifteen years ago, gonna be a
Hall of Fame player, not a winning basketball player, nothing
but hate fifteen years never bowed down to it. I
(24:48):
was right. I don't flip flop. If I have information
that I believe to be true, I will change an
opinion if I get new information. I've said before, if
one of our kids got really, really sick, and there
was an alternative medicine that had shown very encouraging news
in the space you need it, I would be like,
(25:08):
for it. Let's not use old school medical, you know approaches,
Let's try the new stuff. I am for moving off opinions.
But if I'm right, I'm right. I don't think that's
stubborn Johnny Manziel. I'm like, it's not gonna work. Oh,
you're wrong. He's fun. And then the documentary comes out
and he acknowledges I was too immature to be a
(25:30):
franchise quarterback. I didn't bow on that one. And so
I've said before Lamar Jackson, I'm not bowing to the
current trend to bad mouth Lamar Jackson. He wins seventy
five percent of his games in a great division and
the best conference. And yes he struggles against the Chiefs
and the Steelers, there is no question he does. He
(25:50):
is two and nine against the Steelers and Chiefs and
then dominates everybody else. But that doesn't define him. And
I'll tell you why. Because Peyton manning against the Patriots,
including the playoffs, was nine to fifteen more interceptions against
New England than any other team that doesn't define him.
(26:11):
Troy Aikman against the Niners struggled his entire career worst
winning percentage than any other team. That doesn't define Troy Aikman,
The Rings do. John Elway against the Raiders and the
Bills a bit of a mess under five hundred a
passer rating mid seventies. But yet because Lamar struggles with
(26:32):
the greatest coach and quarterback ever and the best defensive
organization in the sport Pittsburgh, you want me to say
he's no good? It didn't define Troy or Peyton or Elway.
What defines Lamar Jackson. He wins seventy five percent of
his games in arguably the best division in football. He's
(26:54):
the most electric athlete to ever play the position. He
is absolutely loved by teammates and feared by defensive coordinators.
He humiliates other pro athletes. Yes, Aikman, Elway, Peyton, Manning,
Lamar Jackson, if you see them regularly. If you saw Peyton, Manning, Akman, Elway,
(27:18):
Lamar Jackson regularly, you get a little beat on him.
And if you have a really good team while you
face him, you can beat them more than they beat you. Yes,
that is possible, but it doesn't define them. Lamar is
defined as the most electric quarterback athletically we've ever seen.
(27:39):
The heart and soul drives more fear mahomes can beat you.
He doesn't humiliate you very often. Josh Allen does Lamar
Jackson does? They humiliate you. They lump, they jump over
a linebacker, they run over a cornerback. Lamar makes a
Pro Bowl safety lean right, he goes left, and guys
(28:02):
are dogging that safety in the film room on Tuesday.
That's the difference. So if it didn't define Peyton Elway Aikman,
why does it define Lamar? He will win playoff games?
What is he now twenty twenty five years old or
twenty six? Remember he came into the league he was
like twenty one years old. Is he twenty seven years old? Yet?
(28:24):
I don't think he is. He's twenty six. He's twenty
seven now, Okay, So essentially in the NFL you're in
your prime usually like twenty six to thirty two. Quarterbacks
can last like kickers a little longer. And by the way,
Lamar does not take as many shots as he used to,
(28:45):
So I don't think suddenly he's gonna run out of gas.
In fact, this passed off season he lost weight to
stay twitchy, and I'm watching him. He looks twitchy, He's
not losing speed.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon Easter not a em Pacific.
Speaker 5 (29:00):
Make sure you play this week's Fox Super Six sponsored
by Draft Kings.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
Go to the Fox Sports app and enter for a
free chance to win cash prize.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Did you see your guy Lucas all banged up? Who Luca?
That hasn't worked out that well for you?
Speaker 3 (29:16):
Just settle down.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
They got to the finalsuad Greg co Cell top of
next hour. Very excited for Greg co Cell today. As
so this year, this past last year, I went and
watched bow Knicks at or Oregon play twice. I saw
him go against the Huskies in Seattle, and I knew
that Michael Pennix and bow Knicks were both going to
(29:38):
get drafted somewhere, probably in the first round. So when
I went to the game, I sat, you know, near midfield.
Then I went to the end zone, and then I
wanted to watch bow Knicks again. I was in Utah,
so I went to the Utah game. I called up
a friend and got tickets. So I saw bo Nix
and that when I sat right behind the Oregon bench,
I wanted to see how he interacted with teammates. I
was being a total dork, and so my takeaway is
he's great with teammates. He's much more ripped in per
(30:01):
My only question was does he have a good arm? Well,
one of the things I watched last week, it's like
he's got a better arm than I gave him credit for.
And Sean Payton. I reached out to Sean Payton and
Shawn's like, arm is not an issue. He can make
all the throws. It is not an issue. And I
think this kid because Caleb was so dynamic, and Jayden
Daniels and then JJ McCarthy played for the National Championships,
(30:24):
and then Michael Pennix had beaten bon Knicks, everybody just
forgot about bow knicks. And I'm watching this kid over
the last six or seven games, and I'm like, guys,
this is the best quarterback. Now. I'm not saying he's
going to be the best in ten years, but this
year he's the best quarterback. A lot of that Sean Payton,
I'm not denying it, but Drew Brees, who had Sean
(30:45):
Payton as a coach, talked about the growth of bow Knicks.
Speaker 8 (30:50):
You knew it was going to take a little bit
of time this year. Hey, he's a rookie quarterback. He's
going to do rookie stuff at times. He's still developing
an understanding in a comfort level with the offense. He's
a developing a chemistry with all of his receivers. So
now I think we're just starting to see. You know, hey,
we're ten eleven games into this thing, and this is
what you're seeing.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
Okay, So so J McK and I'll play a little
game and we do this game about once a month
where put me on the spot. All things considered, injuries,
your age, your production, your floor, your ceiling, all things considered,
your contract, everything considered. Who would I take over the
(31:29):
next five years? Who would I take over the next
five years? The game is called bo or No.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
This is this is going to get contentious. I'll just wonder,
all right, bow next or Jayden Daniels Colin.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
This is a really hard one. I think because he's
such an electric mover, I would take Jaden Daniels. I
do have a fear about injuries, but I do think
he has a chance to be the best quarterback out
of this class. But I think this is way closer
than most people think. I would take Jaden by an inch.
Speaker 5 (32:02):
Okay, So it's next five years, right, Who would you
rather have for the next five years?
Speaker 3 (32:06):
Bo Nicks or Caleb Williams.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Okay? I do not think it's fair because of the
coaching staff in Chicago to judge Caleb Williams. I need
a reset, come back and do this segment in one year,
in week twelve, and then I'll have an answer. I
can't judge him. I think Caleb one guy's got Sean Payton.
One guy's got a tire fire if you gave If
(32:31):
you gave Caleb Sean Payton, you think he'd be pretty good. Probably,
So I'm not gonna even do this.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
Let's move on to Bow Knicks or Sam Darnald.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Bo Nicks. First of all, he protects the football better.
He's basically inexpensive and and Darnald does have a history
because of his style of getting banged up. So I
think I think Bo protects the football. He's a more natural,
accurate thrower. Bo Nicks.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
Next five years, Bo Nicks or Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
Aaron's old expensive prick not even close bon Knicks, And
I also think bon Knicks right now is a more
accurate thrower. I really do Aaron's. I'm not sure why
it is, but I think Aaron's accuracy. Maybe he's losing
his legs. Old quarterbacks lose their leg I don't think
Aaron's as accurate as used to be.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
Hey, Bonnicks are one of the MVP favorites this year.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
Jared Goff Again, I do think ideally you want a
quarterback that can move so you can move the pocket.
I would take over five years free bon Knicks over
expensive Jared Goff. And again Jared behind easily the most
dominant offensive line in ten years in the NFL looks perfect.
I am a huge Jared Goff fan, but he's making
(33:40):
like fifty. The other guy's making a nickel, so I
can go buy other players. Also, pocket quarterbacks are great,
but didn't Matt Ryan age very quickly. Pocket quarterbacks do
not allow. By the way Garoppolo and Brock Purty, It's
amazing how often Kyle Shanahan moves to pocket with Purdy
(34:01):
and he couldn't with Garoppolo. It matters.
Speaker 5 (34:03):
I just had to look and see if for doing
brock perty or not brock Purdy. I'm sorry Bo Nicks
or Kyler Murray.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
Bo Nicks and I love Kyler. He's more durable, he's taller.
I think he's a There are things about Kyler that
I've defended, but they're true about the gaming stuff.
Speaker 3 (34:21):
I thought he was past that.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
I like Kyler, So if I picked Bow over Kyler,
it doesn't mean I don't like Kyle. I've defended Kyler
Murray for literally five years, but we're considering everything. One's
real expensive, one's gotten injured, One's got a little bit
of baggage that I have defended but I don't love.
Over the next five years, I would take Bo Nicks, bo.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
Nicks or Justin Herbert.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
Herbert. Herbert's bigger, stronger, more powerful. Herbert is in a
short list of maybe twelve quarterbacks all time that literally
checks every single box.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
Okay, Bo Nicks or c J. Stroud. C J.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
Stroud is bigger, I think again. C J. Stroud is
being harshly judged because he has a terrible offensive line
right now. It was when he has Joe Mixon and
last year's protection either or if he has Joe Mixon
this year or just last year's protection without Joe Mixon
is really good. And he also doesn't have an offensive coach,
(35:22):
so some of this. He's got a nice coordinator. But
we have to factor in Sean Payton is helping bow Knicks.
If C. J. Stroud had Sean Payton, I don't think
I think you'd say c J.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Stroud he bow Knicks or Tua Tongue.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
It's an easy one. One's expensive and one has a
history of injuries. Okay, now, both both better, probably than
people think. I've come around on Tua. He is an
incredibly decisive, accurate thrower in warm weather if it's over
forty And by the way, bow Knicks could win in Miami.
(36:00):
Could Tua win in December and January in Denver where
it's twenty four degrees, There's there's data that would indicate
he couldn't.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
All Right, here we go bow Knicks or Drake May.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
I think bow Knicks is a more natural, accurate thrower
of the football. I think Drake May has some better traits, taller,
stronger athlete. I will say we both like Drake May. Yeah,
Drake May is going to succeed in this league. He's
going to succeed in this league. But go look at
(36:32):
bow Knicks's last seven starts with a roster that Vegas
viewed as a five win roster.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
Oh dear, bo Knicks are your guy, Russell Wilson.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
Bonnicks easy, he's in his prime, all right, cheap nemesis,
not a We.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Got to zoom through this next one. Boon Knicks or
Joe Burrow.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Joe Burrow. Burrel's in all time elegant touch fluidity, h
third down. You know Herbert and Joe Burrow are on.
Now we're talking. We're talking top fifteen all times.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
Two games. I'm gonna take a deep breath here. Bonnicks
or Jalen.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
Hurts very very close. Here's what concerns me with Jalen Hurts.
He is very dependent on his legs and bo Nicks
has proven even through nine to ten game, twelve games.
I think Bo. I think Bo in the pocket is
a better pocket passer.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
Through for sixty yards against the Jets like six.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
Weeks ago in a typhoon, it was like a cyclone bomb.
By the way, you knew who was worse in that
cyclone bomb. There aeronatus.
Speaker 3 (37:37):
We know that I can't believe this dealing. Oh my gosh,
I'm sorry. Jalen bon Nicks or Dak Prescott.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
Okay, Dak lost his mobility after the first surgery. Lisa
Salter said, he's not back for eight months. What do
I get so like again next year? Dak is whatever
he is, A is a cap hit fifty million, sixty
whatever he is. One guy's free. One guy doesn't allow
me to get a number two.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
I'm not gonna fight you on that one. Bow Knicks
or Jordan Love.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
This is the hardest one, just the single hardest one.
It is the single hardest one by a mile. I don't.
I want to pass. I don't. We'll time out here.
Here's my problem. Here's my problem. I think Jordan loves bigger, faster,
better athlete, better arm, and I like Jordan loves dude.
(38:26):
He is reckless and that does concern I'm gonna pass.
We'll do this. What is this when we.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
We're letting you bet the rules on the blaze in five?
I don't.
Speaker 5 (38:36):
This is pushing. This is pushing the envelope. Here coward
passing on two of them. Come on, pooper, get off
the face.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
I don't know. I don't know about this big fuck.
Speaker 5 (38:44):
We'll go to the last one, and we saved a
good minute here bow Knicks are brock Perdy.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
I don't even think it's close. I think it's don't either.
First of all, one guy's one's a first round or
one's a seven.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
Here we go with the draft fix, like one.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Guy actually won big time in college at two places.
I mean, what's Auburn been since bone next left stinkerny.
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (39:09):
I think you think that's a layup. Can we show
the full screen where you? I mean, some of these
colin are inexplicable. You're gonna get lit up like a
Christmas draw. Well which one the internet whips?
Speaker 3 (39:18):
I know you don't care about it, By the way,
I don't know. I don't either.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
But there was a couple that were tough, like Kyler
Murray is more naturally goofed. So they have me choosing
bone Nicks over Jordan Love.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
So you basically have bon Nicks as a top ten
quarterback in the league right now? Is that what you're saying?
Look look at the list.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
By the way, last year I had crazy. Last year
I had c J. Stroud as a top ten quarterback.
Why can't I have proven stuff?
Speaker 3 (39:40):
Bone Mix hasn't proven anything. He's been good, but he
hasn't proven top ten.
Speaker 1 (39:44):
He's got the Denver Broncos in the playoffs in week eleven.
Speaker 5 (39:48):
Twelve, Yeah, we twelve hasn't happened. They may beat the Raiders,
who are down three quarterbacks this week.
Speaker 1 (39:54):
But they beat the Raiders. Buy your playoff tickets.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Oh my gosh.
