(00:22):
listening to Fox Sports Radio. Oh, it's the Friday after
Round one NFL draft. Am main primary topic today Round
one of the NFL drafts. All sorts of surprises. Jmacair
Urban Meyer stopped by this dollar, Michael Urban and Studio

(00:42):
Shador Sanders did not get drafted. It is booth, you know,
it's so much to talk about miss draft. You know,
I just watched because certain things happen, and I'm texting
with friends, you know in the league all night and
texting with people all the eye. They wished everybody well.
They all got back each other final time. Like all

(01:03):
my buddies who are working in this league in the
executive tweaked are all excited. They're all fired up, bopen
optimism maybe yeah. And by the way, I tend to
think the guys that I connect with are really smart,
and they all did really well, oh, everybody did great,
everybody ate the first round. But I want to start
with this. You know, it's hard for me to have
sympathy for some of these losing franchises. There's a reason

(01:25):
the same team's draft at the top every year, and
then I always feel like the Jets are up there,
the Jaguars are up there. So think about Jacksonville. And
I never talked Jacksonville, so this will be brief. They
trade up in the draft. They have a first time
head coach, a first time GM, a first time offensive coordinator,
a first time defensive at coordinator. They've had one little
brief three day camp. You don't even know you were

(01:48):
personnel good enough yet to make a massive trade. Not
to mention Travis Hunter is unbelievably talented, but you got
to deal with that offense defensive pivot thing Like Jacksonville,
know your personnel well enough yet to make a massive trade.
You got first time GM coach coordinators. How about you

(02:09):
going through a camp or two huge swing over compensate
and Cleveland, Cleveland which needs a future quarterback. I mean,
can you just say archs Manning. They now have two
potential top ten picks in next year's draft, which is
a significantly better draft than this one. So Cleveland's like, yeah,

(02:30):
we'll take picks for next year. This is a bad draft.
I mean, this was not a very good draft, so
I mean to me Cleveland and Cleveland, by the way,
also now has two of the four first picks in
round two. So Cleveland ends up getting a first round pick,

(02:52):
and then they get potentially today Travian Henderson running back
Will Johnson, and they already got Mason Graham and they'll
have Jacksonville's first round pick. Cleveland set themselves up beautifully.
And listen, I like Andrew Berry. I have. I've said this.
The ownership drives me nuts. I love the coach and
I love the GM. I'm a Stefanski fan through and through,

(03:15):
and I like Andrew Berry. I love those guys. They've
had to overcome some nonsense upstairs, but I love those guys.
Cleveland ace the test. They got a first round pick
in a better draft. They got Mason Graham, They're gonna
end up getting potentially two more. There's some really nice
players in the top seven picks in this draft. And oh,

(03:36):
by the way, they're not the only ones. Atlanta, the
hell are you doing? Atlanta gave the Rams again a
first round pick as they look to draft Matt Stafford's replacement.
The Rams that told me six months ago they weren't
going to draft the quarterback in the first round. This
was not the quarterback first round draft. So the Rams

(03:56):
got a second round pick a first round pick. Next
year in the draft they'll have to draft a quarterback
a much better quarterback draft. And Atlanta, who already drafted
a net rusher, gave up a first round pick for
another red rusher who, by the way, was off at
least eight to ten teams boards because of character issues.

(04:21):
What are you doing? You don't late in round one
in a week draft give up a first round pick
for a much better draft for a position you drafted
earlier on a player that was off many teams boards.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Lord.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
And conversely, again, save your empathy for the people who
deserve it, you know, I mean like burn victims and orphans,
I mean savior imp I don't feel sorry for some
of these teams who did well. Shocking the Harbaughs. Jim
Harbaugh gets Naj Harris and now he's got Hampton the

(05:02):
running back. Jim Harbaugh's got his classic Stanford Michigan. He's
got his backfield. He's ready to go. Two power runners
with Joe Alton Slater. Now they're going to go get
a tight ends and wide receivers, by the way, who
also did well Baltimore, John Harbon, the Ravens. Once again,
they go to the SEC. They get the best safety
in the draft. He's a Georgia guy. All those Georgia

(05:24):
first round guys work. So it's like, as much as
stuff changes too much, it stays the same. I'll give
Cleveland a ton of credit, but I like their people anyway. Again,
I think Barry and Stefanski are really smart guys. I
know people that know him. I don't know him. I
know people that know him, people really respect him. But
I mean, this is not a good draft, and everybody
knows it. This is not a great draft. You're drafting

(05:47):
late like Atlanta. You're giving up a first round pick
and a better draft. Now, the Rams will not have
a great first round pick next year because they're good,
but Atlanta could be average so they could get a
top They just got into the top ten potentially of
next year's raft in a much better draft. In a
draft they need a quarterback, Cleveland same thing. It's just

(06:07):
crazy to me. And you know, yesterday Diana Russini came
on the show and it was funny. Remember when she
came on the show. Diana Russini said that she was
told Jacksonville was going to do something exciting. How about
just doing something smart? If you got first time coach
GM coordinators, what are you doing taking massive swings on

(06:28):
a player that it's gonna be kind of hard to
massage because he should be a receiver, but he wants
to be a corner and that that's gonna be a
little tricky. Eugh. Okay, let's get to the shede Ry
Sanders thing. So you know, let me tell you something.
It's never a bad message to tell your kids. Be humble.

(06:49):
Humility works in the summer, it works in the fall.
Humility works in the spring. Humility works in the winter.
Don't gash your kids up to much. It didn't really
bother me when they retired Shador Sanders number. But he
has a five hundred quarterback who couldn't get drafted in

(07:11):
the first round. It's a little much. Everything is something,
nothing is everything. Shadoor Sanders didn't get drafted. There's multiple reports.
Eh oh, cocky what ebbs. But I'm watching his draft
room and the word legendary is all over the draft room.
I'm like, can we just can we just pull the
temperature down a little? It's not the end of the world.

(07:35):
If he had Caleb Williams talent, nobody would I guess
care about I et that The whole thing is like, Bro,
you wore New York Giant cleats. Remember when he wore
the New York Giant cleats? Like, like, can we just
humility is not? I know in society everybody loves the
TikTok watch thing. You know who doesn't apparently love it?
NFL executives, you're drafting employees. That's all these teams are doing.

(08:02):
They're drafting employees. Did you notice the two players in
the first round that moved up about ten spots? What
a shock to a plus plus plus character guys. The
receiver from Ohio State. We talked about this all week,
A plus plus plus character, humble, hardworking. Everybody that I

(08:24):
have as a source loved that kid. Not just a player,
they loved that kid. Shocking. He went from middle of
the second round to middle of the first over the
last month and a half. What a shock great player,
but checks all the boxes. You know. The other kid

(08:45):
that moved up about half around was Tyler Booker, the
guard the Dallas Cowboys got team captain. Unbelievable passion. How
do you not love that kid? I mean, how do
you know what that kid on your team. I'm never
gonna criticize any player who cares that much about being drafted.

(09:07):
I want to buy that guy's jersey. I wish he
wasn't a guard, it would be I mean, but who
are the guys that moved up in the draft team captains?
I mean, there was Joel Klatz talking about a story
yesterday about Buka. He could have gone to the NFL
last year. He would have been a fourth round pick.
But he could have gone, but he wanted to stay.
He wanted to be part of the great Ohio state

(09:29):
receiver lineage. He wanted to help the new kid from Alabama,
Jeremiah Smith, the great receiver they have like work his
way into the Buckeyes. Like that stuff matters, you are
drafting employees. Can we just go back in society where
hard work matters and humility's not uncool? I know you're
gonna race to TikTok, and you got all your stuff
on TikTok. It's not the end of the world. I

(09:51):
don't really care. If you have great talent, I'm drafting you.
But like something has happened in America, where can we
just have It's humility the worst thing. You gotta put
legendary everywhere. How about you play a game one Just
give me one game and then you can put legendary
all over your house. I don't care. It's just and

(10:13):
I listen, I'm not rooting against the kid. I like
Sanor Sanders. I think he's good. I like him more
than Jackson Dart. I may be in the minority. I'll
get to the giants pick. I mean I like him.
I would have drafted him I needed a quarterback. I
think he's bigger than people think. I think he's got
good mechanics. I think he's super accurate, you know, I mean,
I think he's pretty good. I think accuracy really matters.

(10:35):
But as I watched the thing, look who got drafted
higher than you thought, and look at some of the
guys who fall, and I do think there is something
to be said. This nil thing is gonna be tricky
because guys come in now and they can throw their
own parties and buy their own stuff. And that's fine.
I don't resent any of that stuff. I'm not anti anybody.

(10:55):
But listen, the Pittsburgh Steelers are desperate for a quarterback
and they moved. They said not interested. I mean that,
and Mike Tomlins about as player friendly as anybody in
the league. So it's it's just let me just say
this again. Everything with a quarterback is something. Nothing's everything.
But don't listen to the young media. That's Owa's pro player.

(11:15):
Everything with quarterbacks on all the texts I get for
my entire career. Everything with quarterbacks, you are judged differently.
It's all something. May not be everything, it's something. And
so I think shoter is going to go very early today.
Jackson Dart I'll get to that in a second, but
it's wildly fun. My lead today though, was these teams

(11:39):
that draft at the top every year. I cannot believe
Jacksonville took that swing with all first time people in
the building. I don't. I mean, I had a soup.
I had a NFL executor that sent me a laugh
emoji after that pick and texted me and said he

(12:01):
is not on at least five boards I know of.
And again, James Pearce could have not been a good player.
He's a very good player. But you giving up a
first round pick and a better draft. What are we
doing here?

Speaker 3 (12:16):
I actually like what Atlanta did getting two pass rushers,
shopping in the SEC where they have the best pass rushers.
But Kylin, let me make a quick point about this
Travis Hunter trade. So you know how sometimes we as
guys like to signal to women like, Hey, I've got
a Porsche or I've got a big, big truck. I'm
signaling to you what kind of guy I am? I
think Jacksonville was signaling to everybody else. Hey, we're gonna

(12:38):
be cool. We're gonna go get Travis Hunter. Everybody loves
this generational great player. We're not the International Jaguars, the
team that's got to play in London every year.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
We're cool, We're relevant.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
I don't care that we're giving up a twenty twenty
six first, but we are. We're a cool team now
that we've got Travis Hunters. I think I don't love
that strategy.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
No, no, I'm not hating the player. Travis Hunter is
a good player, but you are a franchise that coach
GM coordinators, you don't even know your personnel that well.
Is he gonna be Justin Jefferson or Jamar Chase. I
don't think so.

Speaker 4 (13:11):
Well.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
I think he's gonna be an excellent NFL player and
I am rooting for him and I can't wait to
watch him. But I mean, everybody want to, Hey, we're
gonna make the draft exciting. Just make it smart. The
team's drafting at the top. They need players. They don't
need fun and exciting. They need more players. I mean,
you look at Philadelphia's roster, Detroit roster, Baltimore's roster, the

(13:33):
Rams roster, I mean the Rams, by the way, why
do they move back? Well, they wanted Colston Lovelin. They
wanted the tight end for the Raiders Bowers last year.
McVay is looking to upgrade at tight end. I wouldn't
be surprised if the Rams first pick today is a
tight end or a corner bling green. Yeah, I mean
they want a tight end. They wanted to, so they
thought about it, but but they moved down. Why because

(13:56):
they want the teams at the bottom of the draft
to have very few needs. What does Philadelphia need? What
is Kansasity, Buffalo, Baltimore, Need Baltimore already has an All
Pro safety. They were like, no, let's go get another one.
So it's just it's I just I'm gonna save in

(14:17):
life empathy for those that deserve it and some of
you teams that keep doing dumb stuff. I don't, I don't.
I don't feel bad.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
I thought Pittsburgh was going to be in consideration for
a lead for you today, drafting a defensive flaight, No.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
You know what, I'll defend Pittsburgh lea. I just I will.
I want to talk about what the Bears did. Okay.

to catch live editions of the Herd weekdays in New Easter,

(14:50):
not a Empacific, so listen. Just because you've been a
losing franchise doesn't mean you don't have smart people in
the building. Cleveland's a losing franchise, but I think Andrew
Berry and Kevin Stefanski pulled off a little bit of
a heist with Jacksonville. Listen, Chicago, maybe a losing franchise.
I loved their pick. So you don't have to coddle

(15:15):
your kids or coddle a quarterback, but you can set
them up for success. They went out upgraded their O line.
If you're paying attention in Chicago, Dolman the center from Atlanta,
top eight center, Joe Tooney, top two or three interior linemen,
Jonah Jackson starter. So they've upgraded their offensive line. They

(15:38):
like their right tackle, and now they hire an offensive
coach and they go get Colston Lovelin for Michigan, who
the Rams liked, the Chargers liked, Denver liked, like the
smart offensive guys in this league. All sniffed moving up
to get this guy, but the price was too steep.
All the people I trust the offensive they all love

(16:00):
this Michigan kid. And so now Caleb Williams has DJ Moore,
Roma Dunzee cole kmet Colston Lovelin, Swift the running back.
Massive upgrades interior O line, and today they have picks
number seven and number nine, So you're gonna get two
more potential guys who can start. So This is called
putting a quarterback in a position to succeed. That's what

(16:22):
this is called. Head coach O line weapons upgrade. Caleb
Williams already got a hold of Colston Lovelin and they're
already communicating. And in my lifetime I've said before they've
always been a little bit like the Steelers. They lean defense,
they smell defense, they feel defense. Chicago has as good
a young group of offensive players top to bottom as

(16:46):
you're gonna find in this league, with very few exceptions.
Maybe Philly's better. You know, there's a similar to good
rosters in this league. But again, and we need Caleb
Williams here. We need Caleb to be good in September
because if you're a franchise quarterback in the NFC, you're
gonna have to go through Jayden Daniels in Washington, and
Jayden Daniels last year with a shaky old line and
one weapon had a one oh seven passer rating in September.

(17:09):
So I have said this multiple times. With Ben Johnson,
Cole Comet, now Loveland, Dj Moore capable running backs, they'll
add another in this draft. He needs to be good
in September because that's when the good weather is that's
when you cansole the ball down the field. So Caleb's
got to have a good camp. Caleb's got to have
a good preseason. It is fair to say, Caleb, you
got to be good in September. I'm not waiting til Thanksgiving.

(17:32):
And again, it's just like kids like you. You don't
have to coddle your kids, but you can set them
up for success. You know, give them a healthy lunch,
get them a computer, if they need a tutor. You're
not babying them. You're setting them up for success. This
is perfect. I mean, this is that you. You got
to coach, You got the interior on line to protect
your feet. You got a number one receiver. Two very

(17:56):
different and very good tight I mean cole Comet and
Loveland are two different stylistic tight ends. So you know,
there's there's a difference between hand holding and a head start.
But I love what Chicago did. Here is here is
Ben Johnson on the phone call to get a really
unique tight end talent. Let's go, come on, come on now,

(18:24):
we took it a hot great man. I'm telling you
I appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
Mart.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
I mean, well, yeah, I know exactly what we're getting man. Yeah,
what an exciting time for them. I thought that go defense,
But when Loveland's there, you know it is. It is interesting.
I've said this, What always drives me nuts is when
players get more valuable when they stopped playing Jackson Dark
he got better when he stopped playing this guy at Michigan,

(18:54):
a team that led. Let's be honest, Michigan was about
running the football defense, O line and go. Look at
this kid's numbers, his production in college. So I have
no problem with him moving up in the draft. McVay
liked him, Harball liked him. Sean Payton liked him. A
lot of the smart offensive coaches that I know in
this league. I was told they all liked him by

(19:19):
your bear season tickets. Immediately J Mack with the news. No,
no is the headline news.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
Wait, Chicago might kind of town seven and ten or
six and eleven.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
I have him as a wildcard teamer. Wait till the
schedule comes out. I think May fourteenth is the day
they announce. I don't worry about schedules when you have
that much talent. Yeah, the next team meet schedule. Let's
get started with.

Speaker 3 (19:45):
The guy who really didn't get a lot of hype
in circumstance, like pumping circumstance.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
That's cam word.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
He went first overall was kind of overshadowed by the trade,
but what a story the mini quarterback felt. The emotion
of going from a zero star recruit to the first
overall pick awesome.

Speaker 4 (20:03):
The hard work that I put myself through when just
the you know, the unbelievable work after that I have
and I just always have faith. You know, he's prossing me.
You know this moment my parents, you know, they really
pushed me to know.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
Gets why im this is Honestly, if I have five
favorite nights of the year, it's not just because I
love the draft. You are literally changing young people's lives.
I mean, these guys are crying when they're How do
you not root for that kid? I mean, I'm a
Titan fan today and I listen. You and I have

(20:34):
both said, because we watch college football, the difference between
him and their quarterback play last year. No reason to
pick on people Tennessee. He is the one player in
the draft, the one player that can change outcomes. If
Tennessee improved by five games, I'm not saying they're gonna
blow people out but I do believe he is the
one player in this draft this year that can change

(20:56):
out those Could they triple their wind total three to nine?
Oh in this division? Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
Washington with Jaden Daniels went to the move basically in
the NFC Championship. Again, I like Callahan when he was
in Cincinnati, a lot of three wide sets with Burrow
out of shotgun. Look at cam Moore to Miami. He
was doing that all the time. And then you got
Ridley Lockett, Traylon Burts if he's ever healthy. I think
the Pollard Spears combo in the backfield solid. I see

(21:23):
a world where they win this division and Jacksonville does it,
and then Houston.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
I don't know what Houston was doing in the draft.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
What are they thinking, Hey, we don't let's trade out
of our first round pick.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
We don't need it.

Speaker 3 (21:32):
Hello, two offensive linemen went right after you traded and
your offensive line is decimated.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
Well, Simmons has been banged up. You know, he's an
Ohio State player, so you know he's talented. Banged up
a little bit. It's fine, It's fine. I again, I'm
not gonna beat up Houston's a playoff team. They don't
have six kneeds. They got about they got five needs.

Speaker 3 (21:53):
On the offensive line, well, they lost their entire offensive line.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
It was just like mix and match, I think. I
think the teams at the bottom of the first round
almost always have really good coaches and really good quarterbacks.
You can win playoff games with an imperfect rofter. Philadelphia
has got a perfect roster. That's the only one in
the league. Even Kansas City's got O line and shoe
oh they got they got. So it's like every you

(22:18):
can win super Bowls with imperfect roster and win playoff games.
I didn't bother me that Houston moved out. I'm gonna
give them a fair shop. I like what they've done
the last two years. I'm gonna get Houston a fair
shake and watch to see what they do. And being
very fair today, what are you America's honesty? I was
fair to everybody but Atlanta. The Atlanta thing doesn't make so.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
We're at one opposite side. We'll hit it later, but
let's stick with the draft and go to the Dallas Cowboys.
Everybody thought they wanted a running back or receiver. I
bet them to get a receiver.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Colin. I want to cross interior offense, time line. No
problem with Zach Morgan just retired. What are you gonna do?

Speaker 3 (22:51):
They take guard Tyler Booker out of Alabama. I guess
they're trying to get a monopoly on Tyler's on the offensive.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
Line was a dominant He was the best interior line
in the last two years in the SEC. Dominant team. Captain,
great kid. I mean again, I am never going to
criticize I did this earlier. You go look at the
teams that made the playoffs the last year. Go look
at the best offensive lines in the NFL last year.
Seven of the eight were playoff teams. I am not

(23:17):
going to criticize the Cowboys. However, you should get ad context.
Look at the interior offensive lineman. They weren't taken twelfth overall.
You just don't do that. You take a left tackle
up tops again, listen, the Jets kind of did it
with avt remember, but he could toggle to tackle if.
I don't know if Booker kme so, we'll see. But
here's interesting. Michael Parsons was not thrilled.

Speaker 3 (23:39):
About the pick until he spoke to Booker on his show.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Here he is, they get so excited to play football
until they come across Tyler Booker and then when I'm
going after you quarter after quarter, play after play, series
after series, and I started to see that love leave
their eyes, Like that's what makes me love the game.
But I just really love.

Speaker 5 (24:10):
Right now?

Speaker 6 (24:14):
Got quarter?

Speaker 1 (24:21):
Yeah, I mean I I can't criticize teams. I gave
the Bears love for getting a center from Atlanta Joe
Toney and Jonah Jackson. I don't think. I think a
lot of times we overlook these interior own linemen. You
know what, Tom Brady didn't like pressure on his feet.
Tom didn't care if he came from the edges. He
would step up. Quarterbacks don't like people playing with their
knees and feet mobile. That's on the second surgery. He's

(24:43):
not as mobile as you BET's there. I will say
Booker is wearing the largest chain in NFL guard. You
don't see guards with the team book. He got a
little something. I mean, yeah, I don't know that that.

Speaker 3 (24:55):
I can't crush him for it, but they better hit
the skill position players hard.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
How do you not love? Look at it? Kid, I'm
a sucker for that stuff. That's like me when I
come out to the set every day, just fired up.
Let's go. Come on, cowhard. Final story is to the NBA.
I know you were watching.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
I watched this game, was a great game, and this
was a controversial play. So the Knicks survived Detroit, and
I say survived because there was a lot of controversy.
Did Jalen Brunson go over and back here? It's close?
The referees reviewed it, talked about it. And then there
was his free throw at the end, which was a debacle.
Brunton missed on purpose. Piston's got a free play anyway.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
JB. Bickerstaff wants answers. He's ticked off.

Speaker 6 (25:34):
I mean, it's it's frustrating. Excuse me, four bunch of
different reasons. You know, i' tho on the second half.
We played well enough to win the game. You know,
there's some procedural things that we've got questions on. The
Brunton played where he catches the ball in the front court,
recognizes that he's getting ready to go in the back court,
and then drops the ball right and we had a

(25:56):
time out with five pointy seconds on the clock. So
there's some things proceed but I have questions about and
I'd be interested to hear some answers.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Yeah, he's got a fair point.

Speaker 3 (26:05):
But if you every angle that they had last night,
yes made it.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
It was not conclude. It was not a conclusion. It
was not by the way Aman Thompson, I didn't like
that was violent. Oh boy, okay, this is this is
a non conclude. Like in the NFL, when they do replay,
it's got to overturn it. It's got to be conclusive.
So in this one, it was like, I'm not sure. Uh.
And the other thing is Detroit's got a chip on
their shoulder and maybe it's just that Detroit feels like

(26:32):
we're not getting the respective playoff teams and I get that.

Speaker 3 (26:36):
The answer is it, let me just foul the Knicks
every single time they drive to the basket, which is
what happened.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
Well, the NFT was coming. I didn't love that. No,
the NBA is letting guys play. I mean, there's there
is some physicality, and I think everybody's I think these
players are watching the other series and they're feeding into it,
going I just watched that series. I just watched that game. Guys.
Coaches are watching it saying get physical.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
Which you so how heated it got? I mean a
million fouls is flagrants, technicals like you know.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
My takeaway on this is, once again there's total clarity
for the New York names. You need another dependable star.
I think all this. I mean, you're struggling with the Pistons.
You should. There's an argument you could be down right
now if not for twenty one nothing right. You could
be down two to one and the next game's in Detroit. Yeah.
So I mean to me, sometimes winning narrowly or losing

(27:24):
creates clarity in the room. There is no and Kat
was better last night, but the reality is we need
none to do well.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
The Knicks knew this was a must win. There are
four horses in the starting lineup to it was one
hundred and three points and getting Towns active early brought
him in.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
He was engaged the entire game. It was great. And listen,
I love Kate cutting him, you like him.

Speaker 3 (27:45):
Jalen Brunson was better last night, cutting him twenty four.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
Points on twenty five shot. Yeah, he took it runs
and was clutch. Yeah, Carl Antony town Goods. The Knicks
are the better team. Yeah, they're the better There's no question.
The Necks are a better, more experienced team. But I
do think again you're seeing they're struggling with Detroit. Yes,
does impoor ten good things for the Boston series and
it will be the Boston Series.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
Just a quick note, I need to see the Lakers
tonight come out with that NIX energy. Did you see
how fired up they were they were? Their un ball
pressure was phenomenal.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
Yeah, I'm gonna tast something. The Knicks Piston is a
very unlikely great TV series. Oh it's great. There's the drama,
the fighting they're arguing.

Speaker 3 (28:25):
Oh, it's great. Like Dennis Shooter is such a pest.
I can't stand that guy. He's a good bat.

Speaker 1 (28:30):
You know, he's been on ten teams and he's thirty one.
He still scores on every no, no, no, he is. There
must be something about him personally because he's too good
of a player to be on his tenth team at
thirty one. He's a little I don't despair. He's a
good player.

Speaker 3 (28:46):
He's a guy who turned down a big contract for
the betting on himself and lost backs.

Speaker 1 (28:49):
Well, I don't we've all we've all got all in
on the bay. He's a good NBA player, Yes, absolute
offensive player.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
Brunson kid is just toyote yeah.

Speaker 1 (28:59):
Jmck will well, that's the news, and thanks for stopping
by the herd like news. Okay, so you know I
talked about this yesterday. Don't go to the grocery store
when you're starving. The Giants are starving for a quarterback.
I don't love the Jackson Dart move. But okay, so
I've said this about Jackson Dart. He had a coach
last year that baked in about fifteen completions a game.

(29:21):
He had twenty nine touchdown passes last year. Nineteen were
against Duke Furman, Georgia, Southern, and Arkansas. Against Florida and Georgia,
he had as many picks as touchdowns. I don't love him.
I think he's an NFL quarterback. I think he's a
mid second, late second quarterback. I watched six ole Miss
games last year. I watched them erod against Florida. In
that game, I had Lane Kiffen on Friday, and then

(29:44):
Saturday I watched the game and he vomited all over
the field. I do think he's got talent. But here's
the thing. Here's the thing. The New York Giants need
more starters. They can't be giving a bunch of them up,
So they gave up a high second round pick, and
two thirds those are starters for the Giants to get

(30:05):
Jackson Dart, who is viewed as a mid second round
talent by most. And here's the other thing. So they
move up late in round one. Look at the teams
around them that they moved up. Baltimore, Washington, Kansas City, Philly, Detroit, Buffalo, Rams,

(30:26):
they have quarterbacks. You go look at the teams drafting
today to start the proceedings tonight. If you go look
at the top four or five teams drafting to start tonight,
it's Cleveland, Houston, Tennessee, and Cleveland. See that flashing Houston
pick that was the Giants pick. Why wouldn't Jackson Dart

(30:49):
have been available there? Look at the teams they're moving
up late. All those teams late first round have franchise quarterbacks.
Not only franchise quarterbacks, many of the quarterbacks in the league.
And the other thing is Shador Sanders wasn't drafted yet.
So if a team did want a quarterback, how do
you know? Like the Rams were not going to draft
a quarterback, despite what you read. I was told that

(31:11):
six months ago. I asked less need point blank he said,
probably not a year. If you need a quarterback in
the first round, he goes outside of Tennessee. You know,
probably not a year a great year to find a quarterback.
So it's like time out. You're moving up in the
middle of a bunch of teams that already have franchise quarterbacks.

(31:34):
There was no other team you can talk about rumors.
You had the second pick in today's and tonight's draft,
and Shador wasn't drafted yet. So I don't love Dart
as a player. He's fine. I don't want to make
this personal. He's fine, But I just like it's teams.

(31:57):
The good teams in this draft, like they they could
have used a quarterback to sit for two years. They
moved out of the first round. We're getting out of here.
So Kansas City even moved down like teams they were
looking to move down. Houston playoff team, let's get out
of here. We got our quarterback. So I'm kind of

(32:20):
at a loss for words. I I the fact that
Shadure Sanders and people are split on Shador and Jackson Dart.
Shaduur wasn't drafted, So if anybody was gonna move up
for a quarterback, I would take Shador over Jackson Dart
just a much more accurate, composed player in the pocket
with equal mobility. So it'd be one thing if Shaduor

(32:41):
was gone and Milroll was gone, and there was one
quarterback left, and there was a bunch of teams around
you that needed a quarterback, and there were rumors everywhere
people were gonna move up. That's not the case. Everybody
around you had great quarterbacks. You had the second pick.
You need more starters. You shouldn't be giving up draft picks.
You know another team casually gives away draft picks these days,

(33:02):
the Cowboys. All right, Urban Meyer's next, It's the Hurd.

Speaker 5 (33:06):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and newon Eastern nine am Pacific. This is Pray Another
draft night, love. You know we had it all. Be
inside it the probs. They'll picks clim If you missed
anything podcasted on your favorite platform, or just watch it
on YouTube, just search FSR. Believe we are Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (33:31):
Seventeen years as a college football coach Ohio State, Florida,
Utah Voulding Green, three time national champ. Fox Sports college
Football analyst Urban Meyer now joining us live in the
Herdies in Green Bay, Okay. So twenty six or thirty
two players draft that were Big ten or SEC. And
I said this, over the last two years, when you
watch the Big Ten, it looks as good or better

(33:54):
than the SEC. Those weren't the numbers coach five years ago.
Big tenn has stepped it up on that.

Speaker 7 (34:01):
Yeah, in twenty twelve, I first got hired Ohio State
and even Shelley, and then everyone said, by you know,
we were used to walking first round draft picks in
the SEC, and you were not doing that in the
Big Ten. It was a slow league. And that's no disrespect,
it's a fact. Just check the draft. Great players, but
not a lot of them. And I think the whole
world's changed. The Big Ten is now on par with

(34:24):
the Southeastern Conference and it's only going to get better
at the USC as they continue to get better. So
it's a credit man. I think first of all, the
investment in Big ten football changed in the early part
of twenty twelve, thirteen fourteen. And what I mean by
that recruiting. They got out of their footprint, they went nationally.

(34:44):
The stadiums got better, the crowds got better, everything got
better and as a result, you can see it on
draft day.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
So the kid that rose was he was considered top
of the second and then he became middle of the first.
Is the buck eye the receiver Emuka Book Mecca Mecca
Buca who played by the Way in the Pacific Northwest.
I saw his high school tape. Everybody out west wanted him.
He went to Ohio State. People didn't love that in
the West. But he may have moved up fifteen spots

(35:15):
while not playing. And my take is character, humility, hard work.
When I watched the players who moved up in the
first round, it was players like him who didn't play
anymore games. But when they interviewed, when when the teams
did homework inside the organizations in Ohio State and went,

(35:36):
everybody said, what a class kid. That that stuff matters.
And I like him as a receiver, but it feels
like people loved him as a kid, and that matters.

Speaker 7 (35:48):
That's of course, it matters calling it and what's happened?
All the negatives about nil and there are and I'm
a there's parts that I can't stand. The part that
you can stand are these guys are coming back to college.
A Mecca is not a first round draft pick. Last year.

Speaker 1 (36:04):
He was not.

Speaker 7 (36:05):
And that's the truth. With the other players, you can
see guys are coming back. The differential immaturity for most
people when you're twenty to twenty one years old, it's
like a ten year difference. I mean, they grow up
a Mecca needed to come back. He did. Whoever advised him,
you see some real bad advice out there, that is

(36:25):
great advice. As a result, the kid made a ton
of money. He's a first round draft pick and he's
gonna be I think he's gonna be an NFL player
for a long time. So I'm a big fan of his.
But if you would have came out last year, it
would not have been the same result.

Speaker 1 (36:37):
All right, Colston Loveland, all the offensive coaches loved it. Now.
Not a blocker, but he's he's a clever player. You
know what he is. He's what you're seeing more and
more of which we didn't see for a long time.
You can move him out like Brock Powers go up
against corners. Brock Powers beats corners. I like him a lot.

(36:57):
Would you worry that he's not much of a blocker?
I do? Uh, oh, I don't.

Speaker 7 (37:02):
I think he's a great tight end, motion tight end
receiver that can beat man coverage. The true mismatch, though,
is when that guy can really block. So now the
defense is in a predicament. What do they do. They
put a linebacker a safety on them. If you put
a linebacker and Coast Love and you're gonna lose, And
first of all, you can id man coverage immediately.

Speaker 1 (37:22):
That's the beauty of that.

Speaker 7 (37:23):
Spot Tyler Warren, who got picked a couple picks later,
to me, is a better blockery, bigger, but Colson lovel
and I think it's a great pick. Obviously everybody. It's
not a new phenomenon. Everybody's looking for Bowers and Colson
Love and there everybody wants him. The problem is there's
not many of them.

Speaker 1 (37:41):
Yeah, the so you did an Ashton gent game and listen,
we know if I recall, it was about four degrees.
The competition's not great. But I did watch the Oregon
game and they got an NFL players. They don't have
Ohio State players, but they have NFL players. Would you

(38:03):
worry a little bit about It's a massive stuff up
in competition, of course.

Speaker 7 (38:09):
And Bill Belichick taught me that and I used it
in recruiting. I would not even watch high school film
of players that were just so much. You know, if
you're playing lousy competition, I would not watch that film
with a high school player because you get skewed that
the reason he got drafted as high as he did
is the Orging game. It was not that he ran
for two hundred against lesser competition, because like you said that,

(38:32):
those holes are going to get close, they're got misstackles.
You know, you're not going to see that same videotape
that you're seeing against lesser people, because there are no
lesser people. The Oregon game, when he dominated and he
had so many post contact yards, made him that money.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
Not the stats.

Speaker 7 (38:50):
The NFL guys don't look at the stats. They want
to see him against NFL players, and he did that
against Oregon.

Speaker 1 (38:55):
Travis Hunter's obviously a transformational talent, just an insane, real,
lentless athlete. Would you worry a little bit? I mean,
Jacksonville's got a first time GM, a first time head coach,
first time coordinator for they had a lot of first
time guys, and you're gonna have to kind of massage this,
like corner receiver, what meeting room you're in. Are you

(39:16):
worried at all about this is not a developed culture,
it's not a veteran staff. And that's a little bit
of a tricky situation.

Speaker 7 (39:24):
He was the best player in the draft, and I
was on record if I had the first pick out
that took Travis Hunter. That's how much respect we covered him.
I got to know him. I watched him at practice.
I watched him play the one hundred and sixtieth play
of the game. And then it kind of I had
some people call me after I said that it might
have been on your show that I would take him
number one, and they're like, do you really believe Travis

(39:46):
Hunter can go against Denzel Ward for a series and
then line up and go cover Marvin Harrison Junior or Metcalf?
You know, can you really believe he can do that?
And it made me think for a minute. I think
he's a generational talent. I think he's a generational You
saw him on the draft. Who doesn't want to coach
a guy like that? The guy sprinted out to meet Godell.

(40:06):
That's how much energy he's going to provide a team.
So I'm a huge fan. He is the best player
in the draft. Are there going to be questions? Yes,
and how long if he does play both ways? How
long can your body actually take that. He's a young kid,
but young kids eventually become old kids, so we'll see.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
Yeah, you know the Shader stuff, and what did you
make of him? What did you make of it?

Speaker 7 (40:31):
Yeah, I you know, it's the I covered him. I
went to practice and I had a lot of respect
for him, and I did a lot of homework on
this because I know we'd be asked on our podcast,
on our show, and again it's he spent the majority
of time, certainly is his second year on the move, scrambling,

(40:52):
running and running away from harm's way. You cannot do
that in the NFL. He'll get hurt and you'll get
cop So there's a lot of questions. Can he be
that pocket passer, sit there in a disciplined offense and
do it? That's what it came down to, And he
didn play very good talent. He made some throws in
the NFL, those windows are not there. So I still

(41:15):
think he's going to be a great take early in
the second and I think you'll play in the NFL
for a long time. But I understand the concerns.

Speaker 1 (41:21):
Yeah, Urban Meyer as OHA's coach. Great SENI you you're
going to be in the Green Bay for a couple
of days. Nicest people in the world, wonderful people. Now
it's it's it's old, it's cold. Sometimes it's it's old school.
Nice here.

Speaker 7 (41:36):
I mean it's one story home, sir. It's like Wrigley
Field as you pull up to Wrigley in the neighborhood
there it is, right, there's a historic lambeau Field right here.

Speaker 1 (41:45):
Man. It's great, good senior coach, good scene, Fox Sports,
Urban Meyer. Yeah, listen. It's not the worst thing in
the world for quarterbacks to drop. Dan Marino dropped to
Don Shula, Aaron Rodgers drop to the Packers. It's not
the worst thing in the world. It really isn't. So
you make your money as a quarterback, you don't even

(42:07):
make it. You can make a little nil, and you
can make a little relative to what people make your
first contract. You make your big money in your second contract.
If Schador crushes, he'll get rich, really rich. He'll be fine.
It's not the worst thing in the world.
