The weather is great. It's so good to be back here.
This is not to brag or anything, and not to
date ourselves like our nineteenth Super Bowl week and it
never gets sold. So exciting, so much fun, all leading
to the big game on Sunday. Super pumped about it.
So you gotta start preparing your fixin's and your chips

(01:33):
and dips, and where you're going and who you're inviting,
and again all the storylines and all the guests. We'll
be bringing it to you throughout the week. Hope you
had a great weekend. Hope you had a David Benavitez
sort of weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
We were in Vegas for Fight weekend and there was
some damn good fight to We had a lot of
funny times.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Vegas always a great time.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Yeah, we got to tell you about it. Lots to
get to. We got last one standing, We're giving away prizes.
We're gonna do things that made you go hmmm all
weekend long. Obviously we're going to talk about Luca and A.
I got asked it would be a bad look and
with the Fox Sports. People get mad if I showed
up with the male version of the Bianca sensory outfit.
What if I just showed up in like a sheer
outfro and my surprise, I was gonna wear it out Friday.

(02:16):
We were feeling it for the Herd on Wednesday. Let's
make an impact. I'll wear my sheer outfit. No, yeah,
that was wild. I hope you enjoyed the Grammys last night.
I didn't really watch him, to be honest, but I
watched it.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Just just to be in the loop.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
And I'll tell you what, I don't know if anyone's
having a better week than Kendrick Klamar wins a handful
of Grammys and then he's doing the super Bowl halftime show.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
So no, it's ironic about it or odd however you
want to look at it. Is that a dis track
Danny G and I were talking about it earlier, a
disc track which became an anthem, also got all these
accolades at the Grammy's, Like, how do you think Drake
feels about that?

Speaker 3 (02:48):
At dis track against Drake is celebrated, you know, at.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
The biggest event of the year in music.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
Yeah, there's been hundreds of dis tracks and hip hop
over the years, and none have ever won an award.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
So this goes down in rap history one like five.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
And if you didn't get Rich's reference yesterday, because you
have a life and you didn't see it on social media.
I don't know how you missed it on social media.
It's not everybody lives that life. People on the road
and they're busy. Bianca Sensory is Kanye West's wife, and
she's a good looking woman. But she showed up with
nothing on. That was the whole story. Nothing on but yeah,

(03:29):
and then went nude. Right, it was like a new dress,
like completely see through.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
But even by saying see through, you're giving you too
much credit.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
It was a saran rap. I don't even know how
to describe. It's almost like a big zip block bag. Yes, exactly,
you could see it. All that was yesterday.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Jaden Smith's big head, Dude.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
That was the dumbest thing I've ever seen in my life.
Jaden Smith. Will Smith's son showed up with a castle
on his head.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
It's so dumb. I'm glad I didn't watch it. Anything. Well,
I'll tell you.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
What went on in the NBA of the weekend was
so big that it got a shout out at the
Grammys last week. They came back from commercial and then
there was Jim Gaffigan and he's like, they're on the
commercial break. I got traded to the Lakers for Trevor Noah.
So this Luca Anthony Davis, we got to dive right in.
We're coming back from the fight.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Fight was great, by the way, I do gotta say
that we had a great time in Vegas and we
interviewed Jim Lampley and Brian Custer.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
If you missed any of that.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
We even did a bonus pod check Covino and Rich
on Apple Podcasts. Benavetez the Mexican Monster battled David Morell
was the fight of the year, even though it's February.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
It was a battle for the ages.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
The Pitbull Cruise fight was great, and while all this
was going on, Israel Atasanja got knocked out in UFC
earlier that day. But it was a great weekend for
fights and a great weekend drama field weekend drama show,
Triple G style of sports. Because we're at the fight
and I got to paint picture. Because if you've never
been to a fight, yeah, there's like a foggy, dream

(05:06):
like atmosphere going on. It's like a smoky Vegas atmosphere.
It's like you're at Photon in the late eighties, laser
lights and fog, and you know this feeling of this fight.
So it's like a dreamlike sort of quality in the air.
You're like, man, that fight was wild, right, I'm sure
it wasn't the edible I gave you. It could be edible.
It could have been the boozin and Schmuzen, could have

(05:28):
been Vegas. But there is a vibe in the air,
is my point. And we're riding off this high of
the fight, like, damn, that fight was.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Wild, right, that was a battle.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
No, it's not giving the analogy you know when you
get out of a concert or you're off a roller coaster. Yeah,
when you leave a good concert, your hearing's not right,
like you're still in like this, like almost like a fall.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
And it was a good fight.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
So we're leaving the casino, man, Benevetez, I think you'll
kill Canelo.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
We're talking about the fight. We get a text our
phone from our buddy Spot and it was Luca traded
to the Lakers, Like yeah, right, Like you immediately thought
you'd click it and it'd be a naked black guy
sitting on his bed. Right, You're like, this can't be.
This is fake. Would he got me again? Guy like,
this is a fake link. I know our buddies and

(06:19):
I know how these work.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
I'm not buying into this.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Yeah, And it's always like San Francisco Chronicle or something right,
like something weird, and you're like.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
Oh, I was bab but it's a fake link.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
But you hear a buzz not only about the fight
in the casino, you hear a buzz about yo, did you.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
See Luca Lakers? Yo, AD's gone.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
You hear this buzz and you watch and it's like
time standing still and people are looking at.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
Their phone and you realize what this is real. Well,
I'm from my perspective.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
You went ahead of us to meet up with some
listeners and some colleagues at the Center bar. Yeah, so
Cavino's already at the bar ordering a drink.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
Danny gen I stop for a slice of pizza. The
smart move. The smart move, I think that was the
edibles kicking in.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
So we're getna slice and this is a long line
and all at once, almost like a damn catastrophe.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
But it wasn't bad news. It was fun news.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Everyone looks down at their phone and the first instinct was, yo,
did Chams get hacked? Because everybody everyone's responding to you
to his tweet about this trade, and the sentiment was y'all,
this is fake and that we're looking on all different
social medias to see, you know, is this real's And
immediately he follows it up with another tweet like again

(07:35):
I was not hacked, this is real, And then the
conversation starts.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Yeah, because again this was so out of left field,
even though that's a baseball example. Would it be Danny
g straight so far off the bench, that so far
off the court?

Speaker 3 (07:50):
Yeah, so off the court. Yeah, you're like, what, how
is this possible?

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Did anybody know about this? So many questions come to mind.
So again, had a great time at the fight, catch
it on our podcast feed. But after the fight, the
biggest story is Luca for a D So it's a
question of who wins the trade?

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Did Lebron know?

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Is this the biggest trade ever of our lifetime? We're
racking our brains trying to figure that out. Is anyone
safe in the NBA, and is this really about the
owners flexing that they're still in control here?

Speaker 3 (08:25):
You know, there's so much going on just when you're
the storyline.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
You just asked like four good questions, and I have
more to add on to that, but I think everyone
immediately was quick to be like, come on, like Lebron
didn't know, And somehow I believe he really didn't. I'm
maybe he's just a good actor in this one, but
I don't think Lebron was in the loop.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
As you can. I believe it too.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
I believe the storyline because again, this is about moving forward,
and this is the first time we've seen, you.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
Know, a team.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Moving forward, thinking forward outside of Lebron, and I think
had he known, he may have put a stop to
it because AD's boy like, maybe it wouldn't have happened
if they included him.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
So I do believe that.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
We actually have the audio of Shams talking about the
announcement he made take a listen.

Speaker 5 (09:08):
I mean, I thought my phone was hacked when I
got the text messages with the details of the trade
and when I got wind of the deal. But you
peel back the curtain and for the Mavericks, They honestly
internally believe that this move puts them in a better
position to win a championship.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
Of course, there are issues.

Speaker 5 (09:26):
That they had obviously with Luka Doncics's conditioning levels to
an extent, but they have that belief and when you
think about the next several months, the next few years,
we're going to know the exact answer to whether they
were right in this decision or if they were wrong.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
I mean, it's like a draft, right, People do the
degrading of a draft and you're like, how are you
grading something when they didn't play it down, They didn't
shoot one free throw, they didn't take you know, one
at bat, and you're grading a draft or a trade.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
Well not only yeah, you can't grade this because you
don't know if the moves are finished yet, so you
really can't fully grade it. If you want to grade
just the trade and where it is right now, you
got to give advantage Mavericks because they're gearing.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Up to win.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Now, Oh you think that I saw that. There's no
question social media lakers.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Are gearing for the future unless they get more moves
in the making and find a big man. There's no
question that the Mavericks are playing to win now, and
they believe that defense wins and that Ad was the
missing piece here. So the Mavericks have an advantage that
the Lakers don't. Lakers are gearing toward the future, and
they win all around because Luca is undeniably a great

(10:38):
he's twenty five years old.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
But they still have a missing piece.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
I think if the Lakers make that move, then you're saying, yeah, man,
they're definitely making a move to win this year, which
is awesome, but they still need some pieces and some
moves to be made.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
That's the best part about these fake grades, because what
you just said makes a lot of sense. But I've
seen people say the complete opposite that the Lakers clearly
won this because they're planning for life beyond Lebron James eighty.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
In the big picture, in the long run. So, I mean,
there's a lot of people.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
If you asked one hundred people, I would argue seven
out of ten would say Lakers win this trade.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Again, that's almost a different sentiment though, who wins this trade? Yeah,
in the long run as a franchise and organization, Lakers clearly.
As far as who really wins in the moment, as
far as championships this year if it were to remain
this way. The Mavericks are looking better at the moment
because they just boot beefed up their defense tremendously. Danny

(11:36):
g Are we gonna see because you're the resident NBA
guru and Lakers.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Fans Lakers, so this is this matters to him. We
know that it's not done yet.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
I hope not, because I like Jackson Hayes, who right
now is the big man for the Lakers. Yeah, but
they obviously need more size. You have the Nuggets, and
you also have to deal now with a on the MAVs, and.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
You're hearing whispers of I mean all sorts of names, right,
but even a Jimmy Butler who made it clear that
he wants to be a Phoenix sun he may.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
But on the Mavericks roll, we know.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
And again what we learned, if anything, is that the
players aren't all in control like we sometimes think they are.
The owners are flexing big time. Not only are the
you know, Lakers and MAVs flexen.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
But this is.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
A joyful day for all the owners, as you've heard
all over social media and on the news, because it
reminded everybody and you heard Kevin Durant state over the weekend,
is anyone safe?

Speaker 3 (12:35):
And who are the real untouchables? And is there such a.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Thing anymore in the NBA if you could dish a
Luca and an Ad, you know, sort of an even
swap at the moment, and no one even know about it.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (12:46):
I was confused about the trade when I was standing
with Rich and the pizza line, because I didn't know
whether to be fully excited about it or not. Because
I like a d I've loved watching him play the Laker.
He's been an integral part of the team. Obviously helped
win the championship, even though a lot of people discount

(13:06):
it because it was the COVID season.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
But watching Ad be a monster.

Speaker 4 (13:11):
On both ends of the court, and then you get
a guy now who's an offensive weapon, then obviously the
hole in the lineup, the hole in the roster right
now is defense in size the thing. So if the
Lakers can pull a move to get the big guy
out of Utah or get a Miles Turner or somebody
like that, there's a small list of big guys available

(13:32):
right now. I'm really curious to see the move they
make before the trade Deadline on Thursday.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Danny was in the pizza line confused about is this
good for his Lakers?

Speaker 3 (13:42):
I was confused because Danny goes, do you have Hawaiian pizza?

Speaker 1 (13:47):
I learned that Danny, she's a Hawaiian pizza guy. He's
a pineapples and her. And if you guys are confused,
how do you think Lebron felt when he was at
dinner and he.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Realized his boy got traded.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
Talk about conflicting feelings, right, It's like, my boy's gone,
but now I get a superstar to join my team,
a guy that he admires, and of course Luca idolizes Lebron,
So there has to be a lot of conflict there,
to the point where it's still a news story that
Lebron has stated he wishes to stay with the Lakers,

(14:19):
as if there was going to be a doubt there,
because you have to wonder how he felt in that moment.
I imagine extremely conflicted. Well, I think Lebron.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
Played it well from a younger perspective. If you're talking
to millennials and younger, your response on social media to
a breakup, to a new job, to something happening with
your friends or family, people put way too much stock
in the social media response, and I think Lebron posting
a couple heartfelt photos with him in a d saying
you'll go to Dallas and slay it like my friend,

(14:48):
go do it, And I think that to me is
a good look all at the same time embracing like
you're getting Luke.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Oh yeah yeah, And he put out all fires of
he knew about it immediately, So immediately it was on
social that he knew nothing about this, and anyone that
insinuated differently, he.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
Was calling him out as a clown.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Yeah, love you, my dog go crazy over there, and
a picture of them hugging and a picture of them
embracing with the NBA trophy and Champagne.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
I'm with Danny g.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
I even posted like a montage of Ad as a Laker.
So he's letting it be known like ad, AD's.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
My boys, you my boy. That is part of the business.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
And as a true professional, Lebron has played with so
many great players, and he noticed, he knows that's part
of the deal, even though I'm sure he's unhappy about it. Yeah,
that's the right move to make. But I look back
at a D's run as a Laker, he had so
many injuries, but I'll always look at him as a
guy that helped them win.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
A championship and he's been my favorite Laker.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
Yeah, I think I'm not alone as a Lakers fan
saying if it had been Lebron traded instead of Ad
for Luca, I would have been even more excited because
if it was Luca and Anthony Davis together, then that
would have been the dream.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Really Yeah, And then after all that love for a day,
Lebron posted a really delicious looking meal.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
I didn't know Lebron's in the food game. Oh yeah,
what is that? Short ribbon grits? Some red wine.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
There's so many questions like is this the greatest duo
that Lebron has been a part of.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
He's played with so many big names throughout his career.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
That's very hard to say, Rightyane Wade in his prime,
you know, with Bosh also and then Kevin.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
He's played with so many superstars.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
But then when Rich finally, when Rich and Danny came
back from their Munchi pizza session, he joined us at
the bar and we're like, whoa, can you believe this?

Speaker 3 (16:34):
Again? We were in Vegas when this trade happened for
the fight.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
The question was because we were all in such shock,
Hold on a second, is this the biggest trade.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
Of our lifetime?

Speaker 1 (16:46):
That really was where we were when we found out,
Like have we ever witnessed any trade this big in
our lifetime? Because even if you're a casual basketball fan,
you're like, man, this is crazy, dude, how did nobody
know about this? And how is this going to unfurl? Like?

Speaker 3 (17:02):
And is this the biggest one?

Speaker 1 (17:03):
And we came to the conclusion that there's only one other,
let's say, player swap in this way that compares, and
it still doesn't even compare.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
Listen, this is such a big deal.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
One of the people we were having drinks with at
the bar is one of our friends and god that
listens every day Wes and Vegas m hm, and he
couldn't care less about the NBA, and he was like,
this is really exciting. Oh yeah, I mean, it was
just an exciting story for just a sports fan and
the one and we didn't want to look it up
because that's cheating when you're at the bar.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
We went on to school. We went with let's use
our brains. I found one in my producer brain oh
really in the.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
Brain of producing and just I don't know, without looking
and googling everything. Sometimes it's fun to just say, let
me try to think, and if you're roughly forty ish
thirty forty fifty, let's take it back to like nineteen
eighty till now the last forty five years. Is there
a trade of two stars even close to this? And

(18:00):
only one came to mind?

Speaker 4 (18:02):
Yeah, the first thing that came to mind for me
was Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
Oh you said that one?

Speaker 1 (18:08):
Yeah, yeah, because when that was brought up, like, oh yeah,
that was a really good one. But at that moment,
GoF wasn't this standout superstar that he.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
Became in Detroit helped the Rams get to the pope,
of course, but remember they still thought he was a
liability and wasn't going to get them the championship.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
But again, a quarterback swap that benefited both cities, and
you're right, two big stars. So when Danny g brought
that up, and I forgot who brought it up, I
was like, yeah, that's probably the only thing even remotely
close and it's not even close to what we're experiencing
right now, which makes it so exciting, and it makes
it really ironic that we're talking NBA on the first

(18:48):
day of radio row at Super Bowl Week in New Orleans.
Never thought that's how significant this move was.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
It was so big because think about when Lebron said, Yo,
we own Christmas Day and the numbers come out and
there's like ten times many people watching football and basketball.
But when you talk about what's a trade of this magnitude,
keep in mind, I agree with you that GoF wasn't
a star that Stafford was, but Goff had taken that
Rams team to a Super Bowl, and if you remember,

(19:14):
that was a team that lost thirteen to three to
the Patriots and what arguably was one of the more
boring defensive Super Bowls where they can only put up
three against the Patriots. So that's why the Rams started saying,
we got a great squad here, but we only put
up three exactly in the Super Bowl. So that's when
they said let's make the move for Stafford. Stafford ends

(19:35):
up winning a Super Bowl, so then it's like, all right,
advantage Rams.

Speaker 3 (19:37):
They got Stafford in one.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
But then the last two years you're like, wow, Goff
really settled into Detroit. Oh yeah, and up until they
floundered in the divisional round, people thought, oh, now Detroit's
got their guy and he's an MVP candidate.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
So Golf and Stafford, if you can think of another,
I can't not this big, you know, significant, yes, but
player for player, two.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
Superstars just you know with stats, Yeah, that matches this. No,
it's it's wild.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
I mean you have to go back to nineteen eighteen
when the Yankees got Babe Ruth. Honestly, and I don't
even know who they traded for him. I have no
idea how that works out.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
Someone said, maybe put Paul George Sga in that conversation,
but Sga was just not an unknown but not a
proven superstar the.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
Way he is. Yeah, he was an upcoming, a rising star,
a rising star. So I don't know if he could
even put that one in there.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
So if you have any other answers at COVID on
rich Or eight seven, seven, nine to nine on Fox.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
Now, let me post this question too. Again. There's lots
of questions that we post from this trade. Who wins?

Speaker 1 (20:38):
Did Lebron know? Biggest trade ever? Is anyone safe? Are
the owners flex? And here's one more question to think
about and then we'll get your feedback.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
Apparently, the story today is Luca just bought a house
apparently not like a little beach cabana.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
He bought a fifteen million dollar man that he closed
on last week in Dallas.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
So it's a big deal.

Speaker 4 (21:06):
Ad just got a new property in southern California as well.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
So both of these guys, both of these guys in
use on an awkward situation. You know, this move from
Texas to La affects Luca with that Max deal. He
loses one hundred and seventeen million dollars in the process.
He bought this house. Right their their lives get turned
upside down. But when you realize that Ad bought a

(21:30):
house in La and Luca bought a house in Dallas,
if somebody knew ahead of time, if put it this way,
the owners knew right they were talking about for about
a month, Dallas only went to La. That was the
other part of the story. They only went to La
to negotiate nowhere else, nobody else. But if somebody were

(21:53):
to find out, do they owe that information to the
player before they were to purchase something? Because I know
Rich and I have a story. I know you have
a personal story about a radio friend of yours. So
think about that, Like, if you found out your buddy
was gonna get fired and he was about to buy
a house, would you feel it to be the right

(22:13):
thing to do in your heart to be like, yo, dude,
before you bought that house, before you invest your money.

Speaker 3 (22:20):
I just want to let you know I heard a little.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
I heard some rumblings about your future here, like what
would you do in that situation? Plus we got things
that made you go hmm. Super Bowl week edition here

big game for the Super Bowl.

Covino and Rich to follow our New Orleans adventures, our

(24:12):
Super Bowl adventures we'll be posting throughout the week at
Covino and Rich and of course at Fox Sports Radio. Now,
before we get into things that make you go hmm,
what would it take to get Steve Covino to do
karaoke on Bourbon Street?

Speaker 3 (24:25):
Is it possible? Why won't you do it? I would
do it. I would easily do it.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
But why karaoke is like a big thing on Bourbon Street?
You go to cats me out, We've been We've been
there before. I don't know, man, I don't know if
they're ready for this. You think we're coming off to
gram easy?

Speaker 3 (24:40):
You know? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (24:41):
And what song do I choose? That's a good Let
me think about that. But I'm here to have a
great time and do lots of big interviews. We're filling
in for Colin on Wednesday and our show on Wednesday,
So double doozy. Thank you guys for hanging out with us.
We appreciate that. Now, before we get into things that
make you go hmm, do you want to talk about
Luca and his house purchase? Yeah, a d and his

(25:05):
house purchase.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
We like these moves.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
We get excited about him, but people's lives are flipped
upside down. And the casual fans like, whoop, but he do? Man,
I feel real bad for these multi millionaires. That is
kind of tough when you think about it. But there
is a part of me that I even say, whoop,
he do? These guys you know part of me too.
But hold on, Let's look at Anthony Davis.

Speaker 3 (25:27):
Oh, his spread is amazing.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
I'm I mean, the guy makes almost fifty million dollars
a year and he's been in the NBA and his
total earnings in the NBA is in the hundreds of
millions of dollars. So when you're like, guy's got to
move what there is a part of me that feels
that there's a.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
Lot of emotions going on.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
I think I think we're gonna see that translate on
the court. We're supposed to see Luca on Saturday, right
on the eighth. He's supposed to return and play for
the Lakers. Let's hope that'd be cool. I think both
of you guys got to feel a little disrespected. I
think you're going to see a fire lit for both dudes.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
I think you can Luca, but more so because he
basically has been called fat.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Exactly, they're calling him out of shape. He's a fat
so they don't believe it.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
The memes are the memes are Luca, Luca as a
laker and it's a picture of James Corden, like they are.

Speaker 3 (26:15):
They're fat, sating the hell out of the story.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
But Librono, keep them in shape, keep them honest, just
living in La in the lifestyle and you know, looking
good in at oh and that yellow and gold, purple
and gold.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
The fat cham He doesn't stop with James Corden.

Speaker 1 (26:28):
Do you see it's said Luca's first triple double and
it was a it was an in and out burger there.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
The memes are going on him. That's not right.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
I want to show you a number when you talk
about feeling bad for people. Yea, now listen, it's I'm
not trying to make a comparison to something terribly sad,
but you know there's that section of people that didn't
feel compassion for rich people who lost their homes in
the fire.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
Yeah trash bags, Yeah, trash bags are like they're rich.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
It's like, are you kidding? I get it, tragedy, this
is and that, but moving isn't losing your house. It's
just a pain in the ass.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
I want you to look at the career earnings of
Anthony Davis in the NBA and then tell me if
you feel a little bad. Okay, yeah, but when you
just bought a number to everyone, three hundred and thirty
five million, nine hundred eleven thousand, seven hundred and fifty
five dollars, you feel bad? Still not really, but there's
still there's still humans.

Speaker 4 (27:20):
I know you could keep those purchases and buy another
hole in your news.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Luckily, that's that's, you know, the luxury they have of
being super rich. But I'll give you one personal example
and something that Rich dealt with one time. Yeah, in
twenty twenty, Rich and I said, you know what, we're
doing pretty good here. Twenty twenty we're on ESPN TV.
We had a daily show every night on ESPN, and
we had a nice little gig at Sirius XM COVID hits.

(27:50):
And we lost one gig, Like yeah, we're still okay.
We lost another gig.

Speaker 3 (27:55):
And guess what. We had just bought two new homes.
I bought a new home and Rich.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
We don't live together, we don't live together, but we
had separately, we had just purchased new homes in Los
Angeles because we were like, oh, we're doing good. And
I remember thinking like there was a level of panic, like, oh, man,
we just lost two gigs and we just bought two houses.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
Why do you guys share hotel rooms?

Speaker 1 (28:20):
Yeah, so look, my confidence put that to rest a
little bit, like we're gonna be okay.

Speaker 3 (28:26):
I got it.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
It worked out, but it worked out great, But there
was a minute of panic where you're like, man, how
do we get by? And then there's another story of
Rich when he worked at Z one hundred in New
York City, he thought he was the nighttime hottie that
was going to be there forever nights on Z one hundred,
which was such a great gig for him as a
young man in his come up in radio. And you

(28:49):
have a friend that tipped you off real important, my
buddy Nico. And I was not that confident, by the way.
I love that you think I was, But I was
getting in my mind, I'm like, I don't know if
they're to keep mer on forever. Because you known radio,
like especially like music top forty or hip hop or
rock radio, they make moves more often, right, I was like.

Speaker 3 (29:09):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (29:10):
Our buddy Nico got a heads up like, yeah, I
don't think they're going to extend your contract. And he
heard rumblings and was probably told don't tell Rich, and
he's like, that's my boy, I'm telling them, and he
pulled me aside.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
He's like, yeo, they're not going to renew your contract.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
So before Rich made any moves, yeah, any permanent moves,
life changing moves, investments, or anything, our buddy, Rich's buddy
at the time, did a solid and told him something
that he really didn't want.

Speaker 3 (29:36):
To tell him, and that was, hey, you're probably getting
fired soon.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
Well, I remember I always heard a story might come up,
and this is not just radio, but it's any industry.
I heard that the morning guy, and usually the morning
radio people in that old school radio world were paid
the most. I heard that the morning guy was about
to buy a beautiful new home and put his kids

(29:59):
in a private school in that area, and like he
had this whole plan, and everyone behind the scenes like,
oh yeah, they're firing him, and the bosses let him
go through with all that, and I remember thinking that
was the weakest move ever, Like at that point you
gotta be like, hey man.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
We may need to fight you.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
Earlier because I don't want to see a grown man
or woman go through all that. And unfortunately, you hear
stories like this all the time. Yeah, and you know,
was Luca and Ad tipped off? No? Hell no, because
that's just business and I get it, but it's still
unfortunately it does post a question if you knew this stuff,
would you tell that person before they made those moves?

(30:38):
Hit us up if you ate seven seven ninety nine
m Fox, or just hit us up at Covino and Rich. Now,
next we get into things that made you go hmm,
super Bowl edition, any story in the world of sports
or entertainment that made you scratch your noggin this weekend.

Speaker 3 (30:52):
But first let's go to our boy, Damn Bayer. What's
up dB, guys?

Speaker 7 (30:57):
A lot going on in the National Football League Commissioner
Roger Goodell having his yearly press conference prior to the
Super Bowl. It's changed dates from years ago. It used
to be on a Friday, then it was a Wednesday.
Now it's happening on a Monday, where reporters can ask
him all sorts of questions about things going on in
the league. And somebody asked him today about the theory

(31:19):
that the Kansas city chiefs, the AFC representative in the
Super Bowl, we're getting an officiating bias. Here's the Commission's response.

Speaker 8 (31:27):
It's ridiculous theory for anyone who might take it seriously.
But the end of the day, you know, it's something
we always have to continue to work on. How do
we make our officiating better.

Speaker 7 (31:37):
Also talked about the possibility of replay assists.

Speaker 8 (31:39):
Replay assists this year I think was a big step
forward for us. I see us in the future adding
more place and we'll look at that with the Competition Committee.
I think there are areas like face mask and some
of the air other areas that I think we could
add to that and assist the officials. And what's a
very fast game was always my thing. I always wanted

(32:01):
face masks to be reviewed. It could be coming in
the near future, you know.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
dB It's interesting that it's such a narrative that the
Commissioner had to respond Like usually like a story like that,
it would garner no response from someone of importance, But
the fact that Roger Goodell had to come out and
say that just shows that the narrative has caught some steam.

Speaker 7 (32:17):
Yes, absolutely, people are talking about it and talking about
it a lot people talking about the trade request of
Miles Garrett, the Browns defensive end once out of Cleveland.
Browns have responded by saying they have no plans on
trading Garrett, who's under contract through twenty twenty six. Commander's
owner Josh Harris says the team will not be changing
their nickname.

Speaker 6 (32:36):
Well.

Speaker 7 (32:37):
Major League Baseball fired umpire Pat Holberg after he shared
a legal sports betting account with a friend who bet
on baseball. He also allegedly intentionally deleted messages. As part
of the investigation, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said today that
there was no evidence that Holberg directly bet on games
or manipulated the outcome of games in any way. Florida

(32:59):
State Men's ask about coach Leonard Hamilton, we'll retire at
the end of the season, Bucks without Giannis and Detakopo,
Damian Lillard and Chris Middleton Tonight in Oklahoma City, Guys,
back to.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
You, Thank you dB again. Is Cavino and Rich live
from the tyrack dot Com studio and media row at
Super Bowl fifty nine. So next we get into things
that made you go. We get you involved. Fox Sports

Fox Sports Radio. And consider this the Monday com before
the storm because the rest of the week. Throughout the week,
it gets crazy at one build one big build up,
I should say, one big crescendo to the Super Bowl
because you never know who's gonna stop by. We have
tons of guests lined up throughout the week. Wednesday is

Sort of like Doug Gottlie will be halftime, Yeah, yeah, exactly.
We do a show for Colin, then Doug for a
couple hours.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
No one's caring about halftime this year, you said it's
not gonna be a dope halftime.

Speaker 2 (35:36):
I think Kendrick Lamar deserved his Grammys. I think that
song's great. I think it's a cultural anthem. I think
it's the best distract of all time. My theory on
Ketrick Lamar is, does your mom know Kendrick Lamar?

Speaker 3 (35:50):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (35:50):
Because of us again, but I'm saying most parents, like
if you ask the average mom or dad.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
It's the mom test. It's the mom test. Like your
mom knows who Beyonce is or Lady Gaga or you
know Bruno Mars. But I'll tell you who.

Speaker 1 (36:02):
I don't like Steven, that Bianca Sensory Kanye's wife.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
Yeah, and I don't like that Chapel Roone. She looks
like a damn clown. Exactly. I'm Covino, That is Rich.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
We're at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio and
social Media again.

Let's get into it. Things that made you go hmmm,
things that make you go, things that make you go.
Super Bowl Week edition. Of course, there's some NBA questions
as well. The Luca a d trade made all of

(36:54):
us go hmmm, But I got one to kick it off.
All throughout the week, you're gonna hear about the Super Bowl,
lots of interviews, lots of fun. On our show, we'll
be talking about all the parties, all the events. Tonight,
we're going to Opening Night, they call it, so we'll

(37:15):
be going to Opening Night at Caesar Super Dome.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
We'll come back with tons of stories.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
But all throughout the week, you're gonna hear everybody saying, man,
I'll tell you what, you can't bet against mahomes. You
can't bet against mahomes. So the first thing that makes
me say hmm to that is, well, how do you
stop Saquon Barkley, and we're gonna ask everybody that brings
that up, anybody that picks the Chiefs to win.

Speaker 3 (37:39):
Okay, how do you stop saquon? Because it can't be both.
I told you I'm not betting on this game. It
can't be both. Like someone here is gonna win.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
So that right there, just when we think about the
game coming up, makes me say hmm. And I don't
think enough people are talking about that.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
All right?

Speaker 2 (37:56):
Things that made you go yeah? Of course I got
NFL on, of course, I got Luca Ones, NBA ones,
I got a couple of Grammy ones.

Speaker 3 (38:05):
Have you watched last night? Have we officially forgiven Will Smith?

Speaker 6 (38:08):
No?

Speaker 3 (38:09):
Not me. He came on stage, had a pretty sweet
looking suit on.

Speaker 1 (38:12):
He was probably actually blame him for his son's stupid
outfit last night, but I like him even less now.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
I thought Will look good and he uh, he sort
of led the whole Quincy Jones tribute.

Speaker 3 (38:22):
I'll tell you what.

Speaker 2 (38:23):
Maybe go Stevie Wonder singing We Are the World. I
don't think it was Lionel Richie got better plans tonight?
Where was Lionel Richie? You're tell me, Cindy Lapper Willie
Nelson couldn't have come out and done some type of
cool tribute to Quincy Jones together.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
You think Willie Nelson wants to hang around with champull roon,
there comes a time.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
He's got no It's as God is shahnahs bytone to brand.

Speaker 4 (38:52):
Be honest, really quick, Covino, if you were there in
the same room with Jaden Smith wearing that ridiculous outfit.

Speaker 3 (38:57):
I'd be with youtory figure.

Speaker 4 (38:59):
Would you pushed him by his castle head? Yeah, because
you know that would have got him a balance for
my he.

Speaker 3 (39:05):
Man action figures.

Speaker 1 (39:06):
You had castle gray skull if you didn't see it,
because I get it you have better things to do.

Speaker 3 (39:10):
He wore a castle on his head and the dumbest
thing of every p please please look up the picture. Yeah,
imagine figure out where your switched him.

Speaker 1 (39:18):
But I in my mind, I would imagine if imagine
if you found your way to the Grammys and sit
behind them.

Speaker 3 (39:23):
Yeah, it's ridiculous that that made me say, hey, guy
with the with the house on your head. You know
what else makes you say? We touched on it already.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
Again, there's so many Super Bowl storylines, but again, you
can't avoid that trade that happened over the weekend. It's like,
how does Luca deal with one hundred and seventeen million
lost because of that Max deal. He's no longer a
part of I get it. It's a win for the
Mavericks to escape it, but also a win for the
Lakers to avoid any of that. Get a discount, to

(39:53):
get a discounted rate of one hundred million or whatever.

Speaker 3 (39:56):
When they give them a big deal.

Speaker 1 (39:57):
Yeah, so how do you swallow the let's spear the
taxes in La There's.

Speaker 3 (40:02):
Something gross about it.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
You can only imagine his slight's more of a fire
for Luca because there's got to be a sense of
bitterness here, Like man and I get it, it's business.

Speaker 3 (40:10):
But that hurts.

Speaker 2 (40:11):
Speaking of contracts, can you give you one more and
then we'll take your feedback when we come back five
days till spring training. Is Pete Alonzo going to get
this done with the Mets through that five days?

Speaker 3 (40:21):
What is going on? Our story? It is Lonzo fatigue? Yep, no,
but it's a big story. I have it, and I'm
a Mets fan. Hey, we got more covin on Rich
We are live from Media Row, New Orleans. Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
Can't wait, Chiefs, Eagles, let's go. We got more next
