You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
All right, hour two and a Friday, live in Los Angeles.
It's The Herd. Wherever you may be and however you
may be listening. Thanks for making us part of your day.
Went out last night. I had a couple of pops
with j Mac. We were talking about football, breaking down schematics.
It was good to seeing you, my man. Yes, it was,
well what a pops? Is it? That's what I literally
(00:48):
started laughing yesterday driving home. You said something yesterday two
days ago and the word just made me laugh and
you said you had some bad take and you're like,
youse got last It's like, no, I don't do that.
I had a beer with a friends, so it's a beer,
not a pop. And by the way, you're not drinking beer,
(01:09):
you know that. Whatever. The point, the point being, we
had fun last night and we watched either way. Basketball
school Arizona thirty eight place. Lincoln Riley used to coach
twenty four.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Oh yeah, you said you do a couple take a
couple jabs at Oklahoma today.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Go, I will say Arizona is sneaky good. Yeah, it
proves once again. The Pac twelve was loaded this year
and it didn't mean much to Oklahoma's got a new quarterback,
so I wouldn't take much from that. But it makes
me really happy because I know Jed Fish, he's a
great guy. And Arizona's it's a basketball school. They were
a handful this year. Like Arizona has no fun to
(01:47):
play because you know what, they'll drop seventeen twenty points
in the fourth quarter like Oklahoma, who outplayed them, and
you look up and you got run.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
So Arizona next year moves to the.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Big twelve, right, and they recruit Texas like crazy fit
for there. Yeah, good way to go, Jed Fish, what
do you go to Arizona?
Speaker 4 (02:03):
All right?
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Here we go. I don't know if I like my picks.
It's a weird week. The backups everywhere. Here's a blazing fivet.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Let's blaze it up, fired up, It's Collins blazing fuck.
Titan said Texans.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
I like the Texans minus four and a half. C J.
Stroud comes back. They're five and two in their last
seven games at home. I like the coach, I like
the quarterback, and CJ. Stroud at home has one hundred
and nine passer rating this year. He's been like a
Pro Bowl quarterback at home. There's no question his impact.
He returns after a concussion, they're a different football team.
(02:37):
Ninety nine passer rating with him, sixty eight passer rating
without him, and the Titans are two and six over
their last eight. The o lines bad six of their
last eight games, they've been held under twenty and they're
a bad road team. I like Texas to win by ten.
Maybe I'm nuts. I know people love Rabels, so do I.
Twenty seven to seventeen Texans Raiders said colt I don't
(03:02):
understand this line. I think the Colts should be favored
by more. I'm going to take the Colts at home
minus three and a half again, four and two over
their last six games, and Minshew's been a very good
home quarterback at home this year. Ten touchdowns, three picks
in a ninety two passer rating. Michael Pittman, good receivers
coming back. He's returning to play. The Raiders are off
(03:24):
a wildly emotional win over the Chiefs. They'll regress. Josh Jacobs,
Colton Miller banged up and Aid and O'Connell on the
road this year has been the league's worst quarterback. I
think the Colts should be favored by way more than
three and a half. How I see it, I'm taking
the Colts to win twenty six twenty over the.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Raiders, Rams Aid Giant.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
This is going to be closer than people think. I'm
going to take the Giants plus five and a half.
Rams I think will win late, although their field goal
kicking suspect. The Giants are three and one in their
last four home games. Have always like Tyrod Taylor, smart guy,
doesn't make any mistakes this year in his three starts,
ninety two point eight passer rating, no picks. Rams defense.
(04:13):
Over the last three weeks, they've gotten into shootouts. It
has regressed. It's a bunch of kids, it's a little
banged up. I think it's a really close game. The
Giants are gonna cover. I wouldn't be shocked if they won.
Rams are gonna win twenty four to twenty. But I
think five and a half is just way too many points.
West Coast team indoor team going outdoors to a feisty
(04:33):
New York Giants team that I think is well coached.
Cardinalsit egos. I'm taking the eleven and a half. Give
me a break. Kyler Murray moves the chains. Jalen Hurts
has been struggling Kyler Murray this year, ninety seven and
a half passer rating last week's lost to the Bears.
He's been a good player. He moves the sticks. Jonathan
(04:54):
Gannon's the coach.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
You know.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
He wants to impress his former employee the Eagles, and
let's be honest about Philly. I like him, but they're
a rough sled right now. For their last five games,
they've allowed twenty five plus points. The offense can't put
good quarters together. Jalen Hurts has eighteen giveaways. Philadelphia is
the better team, but this defense. Since Week eight, the
coordinators have figured it out. You can move the ball,
(05:18):
and Kyler Murray, his instincts are tough. Eleven and a
half points. Give me a break. Arizona's gonna cover and
they're not gonna win. But they're gonna cover thirty twenty
four Philly Steelers at Seahawks. Steelers are over valued. Mason
Rudolph on the road, aggressive defense that's getting better. I
(05:40):
like Seattle minus three and a half. By the way,
Gino Smith returned last week. I don't think he's a
hoist the trophy guy, but Gino's more than capable. He
completed sixty nine percent of his throws last week in
one hundred and five passer rating against the Titans defense
and the Seahawks defense. Give Pete Carroll credit last couple
of weeks. It has played better, and the Steeler team me.
(06:00):
You know, George Pickens was great, but they beat Jake Browning. Okay,
this offense is a water pistol. Mason Rudolph passer rating
career low eighties. I think Seattle's gonna win this game,
and I don't think it's gonna be as close. I'm
gonna take Seattle twenty seven to twenty one, and I
don't think it'll feel that close. I think you'll know
(06:21):
watching this game Seattle is the better team. So it's
a weird, weird week for lines. I don't love them,
but I'm gonna take some favorites the Texans, the Colts,
and the Seahawks, and I'm gonna take a couple of
dogs because I do like the coach and the quarterbacks,
consistent with the Giants and the car plus eleven and
(06:42):
a half. Again, I know Philly's gonna win. That's a
lot of points you can move the ball against Philadelphia.
Eleven and a half. Who are they blown out this year?
I just I just looked it up.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Kyler Murray back at practice today. He had an illness
and been out all week. And Hollywood Brown though, is
going on the IR so one lesson weapon for your boy,
Kyler going.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Give me your summation, your opinion on my picks.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
I like Seattle. I like the Seattle pick the best.
I do not like Houston Stroud off the concussion. Really, Dicey,
you picked some ugly games.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Where's Dallas Detroit.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Was gonna take for Miami? Come on, man, now, Baltimore
Miami is? I tell you I try to stay away
from the big TV games. There's too much emotion. Also,
Baltimore's off a huge dramatic win. I think I think
they're the better team, and they're at home, but I
could see them pulling back. You know, you beat the Niners.
Even if you lose or beat the Niners, they tend
(07:36):
to beat you up physically a little bit. So I
think Baltimore situationally, is gonna regress and not play that well.
Miami played okay and beat Dallas, but they got something
to prove because nobody believes in them. Still, so I was.
And by the way, Detroit Dallas I strongly considered. I
strongly considered. I think Dallas is going to win. They're
good at home. But I will say this, Detroit can
(07:58):
run the ball, and you run on Dallas. So I
just I would have taken I think initially in the
week I would have taken the Cowboys. The more I
looked at it, I would have taken Detroit. But we'll see.
Let's bring him on twelve years in the NFL, A wine,
Samalier and a great broadcaster super Bowl Champ Well Black
but is joining us driving up from the OC. He'll
(08:20):
be on Speak today as well. But you know we
always showcase him on this show. How are you? First
of all, let's.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
Start with that great broadcaster. I'm glad you think that
I do. Think no one else does.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
No, no, no, I do no, by the way.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
No one else does. This is a hard business.
Speaker 6 (08:32):
You know that.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
I've been trying to get a situation for years.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
So you're not sucking up to the right people.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
I'm glad I'm not.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
By the way, I asked you out for dinner. He's like, no,
it's my daughter's birthday. And I'm like, oh, great, family guys.
Speaker 5 (08:44):
He said, family man and quotations, Happy birthday, Jade, love you,
we love you.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Let's start with this, the whole Lamar Jackson thing. San
Francisco man, everybody cats and dogs together and fighting about it.
I said this week, I don't care about stats influence.
When I watched the Niners play against Lamar, they weren't
nearly as aggressive. I mean Fred Warner, who's an ald timer,
(09:13):
he made him miss a couple of times, and Fred
fred te's off. Fred was like, oh yeah, looked like
he was playing in you know, sticky shoes. And I'm
so your takeaway, having faced great athletes your whole life
as a great athlete, what do you see when you
watch Lamar?
Speaker 5 (09:28):
Oh there was one play in particular I saw it.
Lamar is when he had that long scramble for a
first down, and it was kind of a reminder, like
just just letting y'all know, like, I can run if
I want to, anytime I want, anytime I want, I
can just take off. And I think going into the
game that's what Santa Franz was really trying to avoid.
(09:49):
It's like, yes, he obviously can make plays with his arm,
he's throwing the ball well, he has weapons across the
board finally, you know, at every position, and but he
is still probably the best ball carrier in the NFL.
Like if he decided to just take off and go
get yards, he can, and Christian McCaffrey, yeah, whenever Lamar wants.
(10:11):
So I just love where he is, just his comfort
and it's his maturity, just how he is, just his
state of mind, and he just looks so calm every
single time. He never looks bothered, never looks round. Even
after a mistake he makes a great play, he just
goes right to the sideline.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
He's back to business.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
There was a point in the game where they were
up and you saw him get into a little argument
with somebody.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
He is competitive, That's what I mean.
Speaker 5 (10:38):
And so for me, it's like, man, they're up there
winning things are going great, and he's still it still
matters in terms of getting the details right.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
So people, you know, people have always sort of rolled
their eyes at the personality of Russ Russell Wilson, but
now over the last twenty four hours, everybody's coming to
his defense and this is no way to treat him.
You know, here's the thing, and I'm a big believer
in this reassess new data. So when they let Russ
Cook and Seattle at the end Russ central defense, it
(11:06):
wasn't as good. He goes to Denver to mess and
three different coaches a college coach, Pete Carroll and Peyton
have just said I'm gonna move off you and not
for stars, for like Mike Glennon, Geno Smith, Drew Locke,
Jarrett Stidham. There is something to reassess with the Russ
that maybe it was the defense and Pete Carroll and
(11:27):
Marshawn Lynch. He was the icing, but he wasn't the cake.
Is that fair? Do you reassess him now after the
Denver mess?
Speaker 4 (11:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (11:34):
When I look at Russ in in Seattle, it was
it's Pete Carroll's culture.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
No question, he's going fast, aggresses.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
Yeah, he's the guy. He's a star. It's his culture.
You know, he's big on defense. The defense was stout,
they were able to run the football. He had, you
know on every sign it's always compete, you know, like
always battle, and it was competition through and through, and
he and Russ did a great job of quarterbacking that
team and making the place. And when he went over
(12:06):
to Denver, I just looked at from outside and I
know Rus's personally. I knew if I looked from the outside,
I was like, this is a different situation because now
you come into here where there's no always compete. You know,
there's no win forever program with Pete Carroll, there's you know,
the defense is talented. But still you don't know these guys.
You know, it's a different city. You have a new
(12:28):
head coach. You're the guy, yeah, and you have a
new head coach and Hackey who's never been a coach before,
and so he's learning how to be a CEO to
begin with, and so this whole thing is different. And
I remember I was actually in London and I got
to hang out with Russ for a little bit and
I said, how you doing.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
He said, I'm doing great.
Speaker 5 (12:43):
Just weather in the storm, and I was like, but
this is a different storm, you know. And it's already
noted that he lost his best friend and Trevor Moad,
the performance guy who that was a that's a big
deal for him because he was able to keep Russ
in the neutral mindset. So now Russ is is learning
how to handle this side on his own and just
(13:06):
from a just from an emotional, just a mental standpoint,
like it's a beast and he can still go out
there and play football, but I just know overall, this
is a different storm. So to when he came out
and he was like, hey, you know, I want to
bring Super Bowls, I want to do this, and I'm like, man,
that's tough. You can't come to a new place and
just say things like that, you know. It's it's it's
(13:26):
really hard because now the contract alone, in the trade
alone is already high expectations. So as a as a
quarterback and as a head coach, you have to you
have to be able to gain control of the locker
room first before you can do anything, you know. And
it reminds me of like, you know, you don't hear
(13:47):
much now it's a little different, but golf was playing
at an MVP level.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
But you don't hear much about golf.
Speaker 5 (13:52):
In Detroit because he's he's there and he's just he's
just playing football.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
No commercial.
Speaker 5 (13:58):
Yeah, And so when you go to a new place,
like I was talking to my wife the other day
because I had my middle school sweatshirt on it, and
I remember after every carry over year I went to
a new school. My dad was send me to a
new school to make new friends. And so when I
go to this new school, I'm like, I'm just gonna
like put my head down, do my work, and organically
(14:21):
gain friends if that's the place. And for me it
was easy just go play sports, you know, or if
I went to a new team, you know, maybe I
was known in the area. Again, let me try to
like earn it down, get head down, let me try
to earn these guys. And I think, just coming in
with the setting the expectations, I'm going to get these
super Bowls. You want to the wife, you're the star,
(14:43):
not even that, because I mean players, you know, they
have homes and wives will have you. It's just more
they knew that was coming to Denver with all that,
But just I guess saying all these things makes it
super hard and in the situation and now I think,
just it just it seems like Shawn's over.
Speaker 4 (15:01):
Sean Pan's is over.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
He's just over it.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
Yeah, he's just over it, is what it seems like.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Yeah, the you know, I was watching the Jets last
night and this idea that Aaron's going to solve it
next year, and I'm sitting there thinking, Flaco's the fourth
quarterback Cleveland has had, and all through the league offensive
(15:27):
coach one with Tommy Devido Gardner Minshew's in the playoffs.
I'm watching offensive coaches have major disruption at quarterback. Kevin
O'Connell is still in the playoff race fourth quarterback, and
yet the defensive coaches when there's a disruption, it is
a circus. And I've been a Robert Sola fan, but
I'm watching that last night and I'm like, they're getting
blown out more. The defense is regressed, he's unemotional on
(15:50):
the sidelines. They still haven't figured out what to do
with Zach Wilson. This idea that Aaron's going to solve it,
and I'm like, man, this goes way deeper than Aaron.
It's very easy for Aaron on the sidelines to go, hey,
I support this mess. What happens if it becomes your mess.
I watched that last night and I'm like, they're a
mile away. This isn't a Aaron's healthy. It's a Buffalo's
(16:12):
going not going backwards. Buffalo's on fire, Miami's coach brilliant,
They're not going anywhere. New England probably gets a quarterback
on an offensive coach. What's a realistic expectation on this
Jets team with Aaron a year from now? What's realistic
in your eyes?
Speaker 5 (16:29):
Yeah, I mean they went all in this year with
Aaron Rodgers, you know, even coaches, players, Yeah, it's they
went all in. And in fairness was it was kind
of the right move if you look at it from
the grand scheming, like the defense was a top defense
in the NFL, and the glaring issue last year was
(16:50):
the quarterback situation. And so when that happened, when Aaron
went down, it literally took the air out of the
entire organization.
Speaker 1 (16:58):
They've never recovered.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
They never they never.
Speaker 5 (17:01):
Recovered, and and you can see it just trickling down
to the point where now now it almost seems like
they're playing with no kind of emotion or hope for
this year, you know, And it was it was similar
to so I took our daughter to the Chargers Broncos game,
and I just remember watching the Chargers. I was like, man,
(17:22):
there there's there's no no Jews, you know, and it's
almost like everyone can see the writing on the wall.
Like this season is just like we don't know where
to go. And right now for the Jets, just how
they're playing it, it's like, okay, you know now we're
not in a situation to play in the postseason. Hopefully
we do get our guy back for next year. In
(17:44):
terms of Aaron, and again it's just does he come
in and fix it?
Speaker 1 (17:49):
No?
Speaker 5 (17:50):
But I mean I think he comes in and fills
a huge void. But you know, I've been through. I
had nine surgeries when I played, and you come back
and what if something happens again.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
That's what I said this morning. You think Aaron's gonna
last with this on line seventeen games? I don't, right,
not with not with the pass rush in Buffalo. By
the way, Miami's pass rush has been on fire for
two months, right, Like that's a real defensive front. Belichick's
teams always create pressure. That's not a great place for
a forty year old and a bad old line.
Speaker 5 (18:20):
So unless unless something happens in terms of like make adjustments,
you bele to find people to protect him. Like it's
going to be interesting because again, if something does happen
again next year, like now, where is this organization.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
The Baker Mayfield? I said this love Baker.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
Yeah you know this. We already have this discussion years ago,
years ago. What well is this about, Baker? Yeah, yeah,
you had your little.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
I didn't have anything. I guess definitely did said it
was a little.
Speaker 5 (18:49):
You spent a lot of time on social for the
past five years about mister Mayfield.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
Ok, hey, what's your question? Please?
Speaker 1 (18:55):
I don't even go to social. So my take was, though,
this year is really validating him a second different conference
playoff team, And the truth is they're going to be
too good to get a top five quarterback, top four
quarterback unless they just give up draft capital. And I'm like,
I'm looking around the league. The quarterbacks that we like,
(19:19):
Trevor Lawrence, Jalen Hirts regressed, Dak can't win on the
road against good teams, Joe Burrow's hurt again, Mahomes down year.
These are the guys we love, and Herbert doesn't win enough.
We love those guys, and I'm like, Baker could win
that division three years in a row. I'd pay. I
would have no problem riding a fat check for Baker
(19:39):
in a four year deal. And it's funny. In Cleveland
they had the team and the coach eventually, and I
thought he was too immature. He's got a defensive coach
with a losing record. There's no pressure for him at
all in Tampa other than replacing Brady, and I look.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
At Bakers already this year expectations of replace.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
So my takeaway is this is Baker's team.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
Yeah, you're going to Carolina.
Speaker 1 (20:01):
Would you have a problem with it?
Speaker 5 (20:03):
I will have no problem with it because it'll be
It'll be extremely team friendly, extremely team yeah, in terms
of what you're trying to do.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
I think the one thing I will credit Baker.
Speaker 5 (20:17):
And I do love the most is just his resilience,
you know, even even coming into the NFL, Like he
has such an effect as a leader at Oklahoma, and
I just feel like when he came to Cleveland, they
just gave him the keys to the car, like way
too early. And I think that's that's what happened in
terms of everything backfiring. Because if he came in and
(20:39):
they just said, hey again, just come in, do your work,
earn it, earn, earn it, I think it wouldn't be
big of a problem. But I think the fact that
they was like Lebron left, like we we need a
new star in Cleveland, like go be who you were.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
By the way, I don't know his agent, but if
I would have represented him, I would have said, Bro,
you're gonna make a lot of money. I don't want
you on thirty commercials. Win some games, and I, by
the way, I would and I know you think, oh,
it's easy for an agent to say.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
I thought, this is not the commercials aren't the big deal.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
It's up an expectation that he's a starmark.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
No, but he was.
Speaker 5 (21:14):
He was the Heisman Trophy winner in first was that's
a big deal. That's a big deal, first pick, that's
a big deal. That's commercial Where it's not that. It
was more so like when he got to the podium
and he'll speak about injuries, he'll speak about contracts like
he felt comfortable to do that. And I think the
organization allowed that and so now he spent you know,
(21:35):
he was on low journey with the Carolina went to
the Rams, and.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
Now he's here in this situation.
Speaker 5 (21:40):
Head down, let me earn it, let me a nerving's respect,
because he's done it before. He's walked on the two
teams and has earned it. So one thing with Baker,
he knows how to go ahead and earn it where
he can gain respect to the team. Because now you
hear nothing but great things from top down.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
I love it.
Speaker 5 (21:55):
Oh yeah, about how he is there. So no, I
definitely would resign Baker and just continue to build the
team around.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
I'm trying to get him back on that couch. He
won't come.
Speaker 4 (22:05):
That's okay, you will bet.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
I'm not guilty for anything I said, but it's I
do think this Baker is really fun. He's, by the way,
speaking of fun, Flacco's got nothing to lose zero. I mean,
he's like, honestly, I watch him play. He's having the
time of his life. Oh man, I think Cleveland's a
nightmare to face.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
They are.
Speaker 5 (22:28):
They're doing everything you need in terms of like the
defense to run.
Speaker 4 (22:33):
The Coach of the.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
Year Stefanski's been unbelievable.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
Yeah, I'll stand especially you go back to you know,
how well he was with you know, Kurt Minnesota, how
well he was with Baker, how well he was you
know right now with all four quarterbacks. I mean they
were seven and four before Flacco showed up, you know, And.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
I'm telling you last night they got all sorts of
guys banged up. If you just list top ten players
on every team in the league, Sandranch just goes number one.
Cleveland's in that next group of about five teams of
like dudes, like really good dudes.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
No.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
This energy reminds me of when, excuse me, when Baltimore
went on that run, you know, to go win the
super Bowl and he was just playing so free, so looise,
and when they won the postgame interview when he was like,
oh yeah, what was it when he said I'm a
bang on the door and get that check.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
He said, so now you're gonna pay me.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
I just brought a super Bowl And it was just
it was a magical postseason for Baltimore that year and
just what's going on, Just how relaxes.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
They show the video of him like falling asleep.
Speaker 5 (23:45):
On the sideline, and I was like, look, he saw
that Ravens defense every day in practice, and he had
to go get a Troy Palamolo.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
Twice a year. Like, he's not worried about these guys.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
They're not worried at all.
Speaker 4 (23:56):
That's why they call him Joe cool Man.
Speaker 5 (23:58):
What they say flack around and find out is that
that the new thing going around. I think it's awesome,
and I love the fact that I love when when
quarterbacks like him like have find like a new purpose.
Because he was trying to I think he did call
the we call it Jets, I think to come back.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
We were really concerned about that, so the Jets. The
Jets didn't have the vision to see it. Cleveland, with
an offensive coach, said damn right, get over here. Doesn't
that concern you a little about the Jets? Or or
let me throw this at you. Here's a curveball. A
couple of days ago, the Jets activated Aaron. Aaron was
(24:40):
quoted as saying I didn't want him to do it.
They did it because the organization gave Aaron the franchise
and they didn't bring Flacko in. Perhaps wanted to but
didn't want to tick off Airman. Cleveland's like, what do
we care we need a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
Now.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
I don't know this to be true, but when Aaron
said the other day, I didn't ask to be activated,
and I believe Erin. I don't think Aaron would.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
Lie about that.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
I may disagree with him on some stuff, but Aaron
said I didn't ask to be do it. So I
trust Aaron. I think he's telling the truth. And so
they activate him and he's like, I didn't want you
didn't need to do that. Why did they do it?
They did it because with Aaron they didn't want to
tick him off. Sometimes you just do things to keep
the temperature in the room. And I do wonder if
(25:26):
the Jets knew Flacco was better than what they had.
But that's a component to the Jets that is interesting.
When you give the franchise to Russ or Aaron, Oh,
the temperature changes.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:38):
No, And this is interesting because as you all know,
like my next step is to be you know, in
the front office somewhere.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:47):
And sometimes when you have a team with strong personalities
on there already and they may be a player on
the market, that's like, hey, like he could help us
right now. Yes, but you also have to understand who
you have on your team, Yes, and it will that Well,
(26:07):
that happened, you know, like I'm obviously I'm good friends
with JPP. Could we played together, Jason Pierre Paul and
you know, he and I we used to converse and
when he wanted to go, so you know, he was
ready to come back, and I was like, well, what
are you trying to do? And so I'm I talked
to some people and it was kind of like, yeah,
he's a he would be great, but now we're in
(26:30):
a situation where we have a lot of strong personalities.
Now would that work where we are?
Speaker 1 (26:35):
No question? That happens all over the league. Because Flacco
was sitting out there the Jets passed. Did they know
he was the better fit, but they were worried about
how it would land. I think that's a real.
Speaker 5 (26:47):
Thing, right, and two alpha's in a quarterback room. That's
not good oxygen.
Speaker 4 (26:51):
It's only so much.
Speaker 5 (26:52):
Where you could have many, many, many alphas in a
room and it can still.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Yeah, let me, trust me, I have to who you.
I have to go back with all this stuff. Sometimes
I have to let you breathe.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
Well you and Jason going on?
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Is that what it is battling for? Airtime and sentences.
Will Blackman, what a pleasure to see you. Yeah, always Man,
reservation still stands. I'll be open tonight by.
Speaker 5 (27:14):
Are you gonna cast last minute on a Friday? Tuesday? Yeah, Wednesday,
not Friday.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
Will Blackman and me have an opening answers always Yes.
I'm just saying, drop the hammer on the reservation.
Speaker 4 (27:28):
Guy.
Speaker 1 (27:29):
I have a great parlay for you this weekend thanks
to draftking Sportsbook. New users use the code herd hr
D that's me when you download the app takes about
a minute. Now for my parlay. Pick of the week
via Draft Kings Sportsbook. Cowboys at home minus six against Detroit.
I like Detroit, but they're hot and cold, never as
good on the road. Cowboys have to get good and
(27:50):
get right. I'll take them to win by a touchdown.
Steelers plus three and a half at Seattle. Let's be
honest about the Seahawks. They've been out played and won
the last two weeks. All take the hook at three
and a half. Pittsburgh Broncos minus five hosting the Chargers. Listen,
it's the season. Russell Wilson may get moved out of
town if he plays poorly again. I get a coaching
(28:12):
and a quarterback edge at Home Broncos minus five. If
you want to take the Herd parlay, check out DraftKings Sportsbook.
New users code is heard when you download the app.

Speaker 4 (28:49):
No, no, turn on the news.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
This is the Herd Line News.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
Start with the Miami Dolphins and your favorite hipster coach,
Mike McDaniel. Come on off a big win over Dallas.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
I nailed you.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
Were wrong on that one.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
Yeah, Well, after this win.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
Feels like they're not getting enough credit for their physicality.
Here's McDaniel addressing the stereotypes to his teeth.
Speaker 8 (29:12):
To spend your time worried about narratives, I would be
a stressed out individual because I know there's a lot
of narratives around even myself personally.
Speaker 9 (29:23):
It is kind of odd though it's.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
It's a I.
Speaker 9 (29:28):
Feel like I haven't checked lately, but I feel like
we're pretty good at stopping and running and running the football.
It's generally not associated with cuteness whatever. I mean, there's
always going to be something.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
Just call me out personally, just use my name, call
me out. It's all good. I do like that.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
Bye.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
For the record, I like him a lot. I think
he's you know, I make fun of the hipster media
because they love hipster coaches, but I think he's a really,
really super bright guy. And I love their offense, and
I love Tyreek Hill. We love Fangio. I really like
a lot about I think I think they can get
a little cute, and I have a history where they
don't deliver. They're like the Cowboys without the star and
(30:07):
the helmet. I don't see a lot in January. But
this is a team full of good players. They got
good players. Bradley Chubb, Jalen Ramsey got good players.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
So I know we have a lot of Dolphins fans
that watch. Trust me, they light me up on social media.
It pains me how much. I like McDaniel as a
Jets fan.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
And oh, by the.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Way, when Robert Salah came to the Jets, he brought
Lafleur's brother as the offensive coordinator. He didn't bring McDaniel.
Can you imagine if he brought McDaniel. This guy's really good.
He's excellent coaches. I like Miami this Week.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
I like the fact that he addresses that stuff well.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
He's funny.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
He's like a guy you could go have a beer
with and laugh and learn a lot about football. He's
a likable guy.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
I liked that he, you know, has the double hoop
earrings as a young guy, because I did.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
Too, and he had double hoop earrings.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
You didn't know.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
That when they for how long?
Speaker 3 (30:58):
So I graduated high school, my parents were like, you
can't have ear rings. And then so we go to
beach week, you know, like after high school, and I
instantly get them and come home and my dad was
just so angry.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
And then I wore them in college.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
For like a couple of years, and then I had
the holes when I met the wife and she's like,
you're not doing that.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
No, your wife's totally mature. So your wife called you
out yeah, and what did she say, Just this doesn't happen.
That's not happening. I was like, all right, and by
the way, you caved, Yeah, anyways, mcdid you all caved
like the Jets defense last night? You just gave up?
Speaker 4 (31:30):
Wow, harsh, all right, let's move on.
Speaker 7 (31:32):
Justin Fields and.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
The Bears looked at you laughing over there.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
Listen, Bears have won three or four. They're in a
good spot this weekend against Atlanta. I mean, they're maybe
finishing on a high note.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
Some of the wise guys, like the Falcons, I just
stayed away from this thing. I think Chicago's gonna win.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
So listen, Field is growing and a lot of his
coaches and teammates have noticed the improvement.
Speaker 6 (31:53):
All right, and there's been a tremendous amount of growth.
I mean where he's just in this season alone, how
far along he's come, you know, taking care of the football,
being in control of the game. I think that's been
the coolest part since he's come back.
Speaker 9 (32:06):
His decision making, you know, from just running a lot
to running and scrambling it though.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
So that.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
He's process things quicker from the time that I got
here too.
Speaker 4 (32:18):
I have to do now and yes and so forth,
so hopefully he continued to grow with him. My two
centses and I still don't see why he's not the
quarterback for the last next year.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
What's the fund? It's been a fun project to watch.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
Yeah, I mean, you never want to bail on a
guy and see him thrive elsewhere, right, But I think
you kind of it's less about him. It's more about
well the money and starting over the clock.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
At if the Bears only had their where are they
at seventh? You know, they have a first pick and
they also have like the six or seventh or whatever
it is. If that was their only pick, the six
or seven one, then you would stay with him. But
it's just a weird circumstance where he's talented and growing
slightly and you get the number one pick a record.
(33:01):
You could get a fortune for that number one pick.
You do need a meeting, what do you You could
get two ones and two two's easily, Okay, easily.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
I mean, what's your quarterback situation next year?
Speaker 1 (33:14):
Well, then you'd have justin field and you have to
pay him. Well, you could do. It's the fifth year
extension that Jordan Love deal.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
We're like, I'd like you, but we don't love you.
Speaker 1 (33:23):
You'd pay him more than that.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
But but then you're just back at this into a
year or two.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
Then that's why you That's why I would move off.
But I think I also think you can move him
and get a second round pick for him, a second
and a fourth. Absolutely, I think Atlanta is the place,
and I think Atlanta would give up. And Atlanta's a
mess at court the Atlanta plays. That's what's interesting about
this game is that what if he goes out there
and Arthur Smith sitting there thinking.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
I wish I had that guy. I like that guy.
We'll see, all right.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
Final story listen. C J.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
Stroud has missed the last.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Two games with the concussion that's coming back.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
He's out of concussion protocol and will start Sunday against
the Titans.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
Different team when he plays. What's that Houston's a different team?
Speaker 2 (34:04):
Well, no Tank Dell.
Speaker 4 (34:05):
We'll see. We'll see. Houston's in a three.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
Way tie atop the NA the AFC South with the
Jags and Colts. Stroud was having an amazing season, looked
like he would be a lock for the offensive Rookie
of the Year. I don't know, Puka Nikoua's making a
major push.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
Pukah's insane.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
He's so good.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
One of the most shocking draft picks I've ever seen
in my life. I watched him at college, I watched
him at b YU and Washington. I just didn't I
just didn't see this, Like, I don't think the Rams
saw this. Well.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
The only person I think I've told you the yeah
you July, my buddy who is close with the Rams,
said Stafford loved Puka Nikoula. I never really heard of
the guy, Like, oh really, fifth thrompicks and Puka has
been amazing. Stroud's been very, very good. But do you
I know you don't care about awards, but who you
I mean, if Stroud gets him to the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
Well, if Stroud got to the playoffs, he had to
overcome chaos, Puka niku uh Has, Cooper Cup, Matt Stafford,
Sean McVay, he didn't have to overcome anything. He had
to be good. C J. Strout had to overcome that franchise.
I'd give it to c J. Strout.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
Yeah he took.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
I mean, I'm gonna tell you something. I want him
in the playoffs. I don't think he'd win rookie quarterbacks playoffs.
But he's I mean, Texans have been in some playoff games.
It's the one you don't watch, this one with C J. Stroud,
I'd watch.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
I'll just say against the Jets, I know it was
raining without tanked out, they looked awful and that was
a game he ended up getting hurt.
Speaker 1 (35:28):
Remember, they couldn't move the football.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
So, like I know, Nico Collins is fun and Noah
Brown or all this a Dulton Schultz, They're just not
the same without that stretch the field guy. And it's true,
I'd be careful with your Texans, but it sounds like
you are already late it.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
So I did. I already bought two jet skis J
Mack for the news.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
I cannot get over the fact that you had two earrings.
I can't even get over it. God, you were you were?
You were?
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Thought you want me to show you a picture?
Speaker 1 (36:00):
Yes, I do. You're gonna I want to see it.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
It's gonna be endless mockery.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
So what, I just sit here every day and get
killed for being opinionated. It's part of the game. It
is part of the game.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
You're right.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
I want to see it so badly. Let's get to
a commercial.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
The audience needs more more McIntyre on the show Earrings,
Men's Basketball, No that I'm over ear Rings.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
Bring it on.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd Weekdays

Speaker 1 (36:27):
Hi, this is Jay Glazer.
Speaker 10 (36:29):
And you may know me for the world of football
or fighting or even shows like HBO's Ballers. Well you
don't know is for my entire life. I have lived
in something I refer to as the gray depression anxiety.
So now I'm coming out with a new podcast, Unbreakable,
a mental health podcast with Jay Glazer, where each week,
while we talk about mental health, I hope to describe it,
(36:50):
give it words. Listen to Unbreakable with Jay Glazer on
the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
So I just got to look at the Jmax photover
the earrings in the history of the world, Mona Lisa
number one. That picture number two, I've never I cannot
get over it. I'll buy that off you. Oh okay,
I want to show you some numbers from a quarterback.
(37:33):
Random guy, maybe you've heard of him. Just some numbers
from a quarterback and where they currently rank in the
National Football League. Please present this if you will, graphic
people points per game? Who is this quarterback? The NFL
rank for points a game for this team is fifth?
Top five points a game? Well, maybe it's not him.
(37:55):
What about the yards per game? He has a lot
of say with that third completion percentage for this quarterback?
Where does he rank in the National always? Fifth passing
yards per game? Maybe it's the receivers. Maybe it's not,
but oh he's third passing touchdowns in the NFL. Who
(38:18):
third passer raiding in the NFL? Sixth? I thought Brady retired.
Those are goat numbers. I wonder, I wonder who this is.
Let's see who's the quarterback Jared Goff. So let me
get this straight. Brock Purdy has a fan club, Dak
has a support group. So does Kirk Cousins. Baker Mayfield
(38:42):
in Detroit. It's I love Ben Johnson, you know Jamiir Gibbs,
Sam Laporta is the best rookie tight end I've ever seen.
Amaran Saint Brown is underrated. The culture Dan Campbell's created
is second to none. Or maybe it's Jared Goff. You know,
maybe it's Jared Goff. Number one pick. Brock perty is
(39:02):
the last pick and he's got support groups. You criticize
brock Purdy, you question maybe at Shanahan and the weapons,
you got nothing but heat. Jared Goff, Well, Ben Johnson
is established as a great Really, I mean, I'm not
denying that Jamir Gibbs and Sam Laporta have been terrific.
(39:23):
And I have said I think the front office for
Detroit is money. But once again, Jared Goff is winning
a lot of games and just won the division for
the first time in thirty years. They did in Detroit.
Matt Stafford couldn't in twelve years and had some good
coaches like Jim Caldwell. Just saying I said this week
(39:45):
the arguments about Lamar Jackson, watched the games. Look at
his influence. Jared Goff, I've said this for years, throws
one of the prettiest balls in the league. If I
told you Matt Ryan with a bigger, better arm. Matt
Ryan won an MVP. So Goff won with McVeigh. He's
winning with Dan Campbell. He has had some good left tackles.
(40:05):
I won't deny that, but I mean, i'mer on Saint
Brown good. I like the rookies, but their rookies Rams
did have a good O line. For the record, Brady
had one for twenty years in New England. Aaron Rodgers
never had a bad O line in Green Bay. Dak
has never had a bad O line in Dallas. This
(40:26):
one's better than I thought they would be. So O line.
I'm not going to discredit you because you have reasonable protection.
I'm not going to discredit you. Well, he's had, you know,
he's got these offensive coaches. So is Aaron Rodgers. Before
he got to New York, he had Mike Holmgren, Matt Lafleur.
I'm just saying, we line up to support Baker and
(40:47):
that's fine, and Dak and that's fine, and Cousins and
Perty and now Russ. He's got everybody in Denver. It's
not his fault. Blamed Peyton, Jared gos pretty good. He's
like top five, top three in everything. Now I will
not in any way argue that it's all him. I
really love Detroit front office, back to back to back drafts,
(41:09):
really good. But Jared can spin it. He's pretty good.
Detroit doesn't win the division. It's just not what they do.
Pistons are a mess, Tigers are a mess. Lions historically
or a mess. Jared Goff arrives good. GM's funny. What
happens all right? J Mack Blazing Five's done one hour
(41:29):
from now. A little before that, J Max got his picks.
Speaker 3 (41:34):
By the way, did you touch the Washington San Francisco
game in blastools?
Speaker 1 (41:38):
I thought strongly about San Francisco. I hate big favorites.
But if you go and listen to Greg Cosel yesterday,
he said they moved the ball up and down the
field in the first half against Baltimore. They just had
a bad pick. Washington's defense is anemic.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
Well, report out of Washington is Jacoby Brissett, who was
slated to start hamstring injury today.
Speaker 1 (41:58):
They may have to go back to how well sam
Hel's not. He's not what. He's fine. They're not gonna
he's not the future. He's a back.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
He's fine.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
They just benched him. I think again, as n't percent
come in like twice a month.
Speaker 1 (42:12):
I said earlier this year on Sam how I said
there's something there, and then I watched more of them
and I said there's not enough there. There was something,
but it was not enough.
Speaker 3 (42:19):
There's nothing wrong with Sam Howell being a career long backup.
He could easily be chased Daniel at He'd be a
great career. Really, he's not a starter. I after watching
this year, I would agree.
Speaker 1 (42:30):
I mean we saw Desmond Ritter's not a starter in
this He's not a starter. Taylor Heineke is okay, No,
Conne is not a starter.
Speaker 3 (42:37):
Everybody gets their chance, you know, And I'm sure Howell's
ticked off, like what I mean, you got Eric b
Enemy who knows a little bit about offense, right, yeah, yeah,
you got some weapons. Offensive line is not great. I mean,
how many years do you want to give this guy
a chance in Washington?
Speaker 1 (42:51):
Well again, defensive coaches and it's it's my thing. I
think Pete Carroll's a legend, But how many years you're
going to convince yourself Gino's going to host a trophy?
You're not in this thing to win games. Pete wins
National Championships and Super Bowls, Like I just think offensive
coaches have moved off Alex Smith golf and Garoppolo, Sean
Payton's moving off Russ. Defensive coaches have this philosophy, just
(43:14):
cut down on the turnovers. We can win with defense
and was Ron Rivera and you can't. You can't do
that anymore. Gotta score a lot of points. Gotta score
a lot of point
