Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
All right, here we go, hour two and a Thursday.
Dude dead, It's the hurt wherever you may be and
however you may be listening, listening. Thanks for making us
part of your day. I got a bunch of good
stuff today, Albert Breer, bottom of the hour, some good stuff,
some very very good stuff. Jmac. Yeah, we were just

(00:46):
talking about this. There's so much negativity out there. I
don't even want to watch TV in October and November,
Oh my lord.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Watch sports.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Here's what you know. Everybody always talks about how the economy.
As you said something during the break, you went to
get your car, and they're like, sorry, three weeks places packed.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
Go to a restaurant any day of the week, and
anywhere's the line to get in.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
I don't know, maybe it's just California, but sixty one
percent of Americans are in the stock market, one hundred
and fifty eight million people. It's at forty one thousand.
Don't tell me the economy is terrible. It may not
be great. Don't tell me it's terrible. Inflation down on
it one.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
Oh, you fear monger, you say the world is ending.
Unless you ride with me. You got to back me,
listen to me.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
And you know that's kind of where we are. It's
not pretty, not so.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Jordan Love's going to sign a contract here for the
Packers very very quickly. I'm reading a couple of stories
here in the Bleacher Report. It looks like it's pretty close.
They're working on it, and I would love to see
about eight more starts. But you know, I trust the Packers.
They do quarterbacks well. But here's the thing about Jordan Love.
Green Bay maybe knows and maybe they don't, but we
don't know exactly exactly what he is yet. We know

(01:52):
he's talented. But what is really interesting is that the Packers,
according to PFF, have about the thirteenth best roster in
the league. So we didn't have the Philadelphia roster the
San Francisco roster where we question whether or not he's
winning the game or the roster's winning the game, right
like the Niners that roster, Detroit's roster stacked Kansas City.

(02:15):
That's not what Green Bay's roster is. And I looked
at the schedule this morning, and what is really cool
about Jordan Love and the Packers schedule take out Matt
Stafford week five. Outside of that, he basically faces the
entire schedule is one of his peers. I mean, Tua

(02:36):
is he great? Or is it the coach Purty? Is
he great? Is it? The roster in Shanahan, c J
Stroud one great rookie year, Trevor Lawrence one great year,
Jalen Hurts one great year. We don't know what Jalen
Hurts is yet. We don't know. I don't really know.
We know Stafford's great, But if you look at this,

(02:57):
we're gonna have a real sense of what Jordan Love is.
At the end of the year, he's facing all of
his peers. He gets to face Caleb Williams twice. You
know that's a game, Anthony Richardson, will Levice. They're all
super talented, but they're young, so we don't know what
they are. So this is not a schedule that's got

(03:17):
like Lamar Alan Mahomes, guys that are clearly better than him,
or rosters that are clearly better. He's facing a lot
of he's facing himself a lot of good rosters and
a lot of talented quarterbacks. But we're not really sure
if they're gonna be great. And that's where I am
with Jordan Love, really really talented for about an eight

(03:39):
to nine game stretch. I don't know if he's gonna
be great. I think there's a real opportunity. Again, the
kid says the right thing every time he's asked a
question the podium. He's got a Dak Prescott quality, you
know that Brady quality. Always good at the podium, but
really interesting if you look at Green Bay schedule, how
it fares all his peers one week after another. So

(04:03):
most of the time when it comes to a football coach,
there's like one opinion, Andy Reid is great. Any other
opinion than that, you're an idiot, Like we know he's
great right there. And there's guys I don't even need
to mention their names and be mean spirited. They just

(04:24):
they're over their skis. We saw one in the NFL
last year out West Over your skis, but generally you
can have one opinion. Works the same in college Nick Saban, great,
you know Texas the last twenty years had a lot
of coaches that weren't great. You usually have one opinion.
Steve Sarkeshan, the coach of Texas, is one of the

(04:45):
few coaches in proer college football. You can have a
strong opinion proer con and they're both right. I like Sark,
I know Sark, but you can have the opinion that
and Nick Saban said yesterday, what kind of tickles me?
All these people talking about Texas always ran the conference

(05:08):
they were in. They're not going to run the SEC, which,
by the way, I agree. I think Bama, Georgia and
Texas will run the SEC. But you can be either
side with Sark either side. I'll give you an example.
The critics, well, he was fired at USC and couldn't
get his act together personally, you're right, hey, one ten

(05:32):
win season, win the big games, pal all right, Ken
right on that one too. Or you can say he
was Pete Carroll's best offensive coordinator. Washington was oh and
twelve and he turned him around in a season and
a half. He is arguably the first second or third

(05:55):
best recruiter as a head coach in college football. And oh,
by the way, the Texas Longhorns program was a tire fire.
In the eleven years previous to start getting there, they
won ten games or more once and that's a huge brand.
Since he's arrived, they'd been better in every season he

(06:17):
took them to the playoff. They are stacked at multiple positions,
and they are completely relevant as a recruiting machine. All
of those are true. He is a great recruiter, a
great offensive mind, with tremendous energy, and he's got to
win more big games. And his teams at times outplay

(06:39):
other teams and lose. Sometimes they're a little situationally iffy.
For the record, Kyle Shanahan has been a little situationally iffy.
And Andy Reid got clobbered for years in Philadelphia in
late games. He couldn't manage the clock. I think coach
is overtime networks itself out. It's like fumbles in the

(06:59):
NFL's some years you have a lot, some years you don't.
I don't think there's any science to fumbles or recovering them,
So I think you can go both ways on Sark
and he's one of the few coaches you can have
a strong opinion pro or con. They're both kind of right.
He's at the SEC media days. I think Alabama Georgia
are the best teams along with Texas and that conference.
And here's sark in this conference.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
You got to have depth.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
If you don't have depth, then everybody wants to talk
about the O and D line. Yes, that's vitally important,
and I think we've got great depth there. You got
to have depth at quarterback. You got to have depth
at running back. You have to have depth that safety.
You have to have depth across the board. And for
us to be able to sit here and say this
is the deepest team we've had, probably the most talented
team we've had in my four years here, I can

(07:44):
unequivocally say that.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
Now, I will tell you that I tend to root
for certain stories, like and I'll tell you what I'm
rooting for. I don't necessarily think it's gonna happen, but
in both cases it could be true. I kind of
want Oregon to win the ten because it'll freak everybody
out here. Comes the interloper. They're coming from out West.

(08:07):
They can't handle the physicality the Big Ten and then
Oregon beats Ohio State and Eugene runs the table and
Oregon could do it. Don't think they will win the
Big Ten. I think they'll finished second. But that would
be good for my business, the interesting business. And I
want to see Texas win the SEC because the SEC
is very tribal, very insular. Here comes here comes Texas
from the old, soft, squishy Big twelve. And if they

(08:30):
go into the SEC and win it, so I am
this year I try not to root. I would love
to see Oregon in Texas go into these new conferences.
They both are stacked at the nil stack with NFL talent.
Be honest, if a West Coast team goes into the
Big Ten and finishes a bubb Ohio State, Michigan and
Penn State, that's a great college football story. And if

(08:52):
Texas goes into Georgia Bama territory and wins it, that's
incredible for the sport. And I've said this for a year.
I love college foot I root for interesting Texas going
to the SEC and kicking arse is awesome. The last
time a college football game got a massive NFL rating
USC against Texas. Texas is a massive brand in college football.

(09:20):
Smack dab right in the middle of the country. Got
a kind of a Pac twelve cool feel, an SEC feel,
but all Texas as well. J Mack. Eric Musselman is
going to be joining us in the last hour of
the show today. Albert Breer is right around the corner.
What do you got planned for the big weekend?

Speaker 3 (09:37):
How is this a big weekend?

Speaker 2 (09:38):
Well, I have a you have.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
A big weekend. I'm not going to get into I've
got I've got a party that I will Actually it's
on the beach out east. I'll wear sunglasses.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
Are you out pressed that I didn't ask you about it?
I'm waiting for a good moment of weakness.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
Will you just tell me about it?

Speaker 1 (09:53):
I've been told the party I'm going to is catered.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
Is this one of those parties are like young hot
people or like an old.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Person party young hot people. It's a party with attractive
people and lobster. It's very beachy and very Northeast.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
It's in like Boston.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
I'm not going to get into that. But you're not
doing anything this weekend, you know.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
I'm schedule is.

Speaker 3 (10:21):
Kind of wide open. We got our last regular season
game for the Great Foxes. We're undefeated. We'll win.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
You know.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
My family gets back in town, which is nice. Probably
go to the beach. It's gonna be like eighty degrees,
nothing too spicy. Well both, thanks for asking.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
Us, well I did. There's not room for you at
this party. It's very private. Need a pass code to
get in.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
One more Herd. The Herd streams twenty four hours a day,
seven days a week within the iHeartRadio app. Search Herd
to listen live or on demand whenever you like.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
Now all social stuff going on today. A lot of
shows think this is the slow time of the year.
But when you wear these optimistic shirts, these dynamic shirts,
brings out the best in you. A lot of stuff
coming out of this apparel today. We're really an apparel show,
is what we are. People don't understand that that's what
we are.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
You know.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
I always said McDonald's is really a real estate company.
They just do burgers on the side. We are we
are an apparel show. These shows are shirts. Drive the
content nearest Jmack with the.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
News, No no turns. This is the Herdline news.

Speaker 4 (11:27):
I thought we talk a lot of chiefs this summer,
you know, because they're not gonna win the Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
It's gonna be a letdown. Someboll Just get out of
the way now.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
The Chiefs obviously on the hunt for the NFL's first.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Three feet in the Super Bowl era.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
You know they've got Hollywood Browns. They you're worthy and
although the first.

Speaker 4 (11:42):
Round pick has missed sometime this spring with the hamstring injury,
that's worthy.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Mahomes said he won't be treated with kid gloves.

Speaker 6 (11:50):
There's no He's right. He's gonna have to good, be
ready to go. We got a lot of competition on
this offense. Bred Vech and Coachy did a great job
bringing a lot of competition in Axavier. I mean, he
got a lot of mental work in these last few
weeks that he had. They're in OTA's in MINIKV. But
it's time to go now. And I mean you all
saw with the RACEII last year and some of the
throwing up days he had. I mean, we're gonna We're

(12:11):
gonna push you to the limit and prepare yourself to
be ready to go for the season. And that's not
just him, that's everybody in the air Bass that have
that mentality when they come into camp.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
Listen, if the kid hits and Rashi Rice after some
suspension comes back. They do have two viable receivers, and
last year, most of the year they did it without one.
So if Rashee Rice, who got better? It felt like
throughout the course of the season, Travis Kelcey, Rashi Rice
and but check Co's always been good. We like him.
And if this kid hits and again, I'm talking sixty

(12:42):
five catches, three touchdowns, he didn't have to be five.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
That's I mean, a damn good season.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Well, sixty five is four catches a game in this
offense for a rookie. Yeah, but I mean receiver and
corner and running back. I mean Breese Hall first carry.

Speaker 7 (12:57):
Can make guess.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Raci Rice may be in a work release program for
the first month of the season. I don't know where
he is. Is he in jail, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
I don't know where he's brutal off season. I've got
he had bad But I think I think it's a suspension,
but he'd be back probably. I think didn't the team
handle the suspension on that, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
Chiefs love to just well, I mean there's things under
the rug, so well.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
That's that's kind of unfair. But I think everybody in
the league pushes stuff under the rug.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Well, I sort of, but the Chiefs, you know, they
get kind of a pretty fast at the stuff.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
Could they have Patrick behol Super Bowl certainly an argument
why I respect them, But it's it's pro sports. I'm
not looking for a locker room of perfect everybody's just
you know, on the straight and arrow. Sometimes people do
those when you're twenty one and rich kids do crazy stuff.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
I wouldn't know. I was never twenty one and rich.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
So but if you had you had hoop ear rings, yeah,
and you were at night. You were at night clubs,
so you you didn't have any You didn't have any lettuce.
But if you'd had lettuce, you had done well.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
I acted like I had lettuce. Yeah, I had a
credit card which ran up some debt. But anyways, I
am just curious.

Speaker 4 (13:59):
What do you think I would be like if the
Jets took down the Chiefs in a playoff.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
Game, I would take the day off.

Speaker 4 (14:05):
I mean it would be historic. All right, let's get
to the next story. Speaking of teams, I like, how
about the forty nine ers?

Speaker 3 (14:11):
Forget this?

Speaker 4 (14:12):
Brandon Ayuknn said, I'm not worried about it. They still
got Debo Samuel. I mean he had eight hundred and
ninety two receiving yards, two hundred and twenty five rushing yards,
eight touchdowns. An anonymous axc AFC executive said that although
durability has been a bit of a concern, Deebo is
the ultimate weapon.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Gotta love it like it's crossing route.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
Over he is.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
He's just awesome.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
Man. He's a different kind of player. But the late
Aaron Hernandez for New England, it was like you could
put him in like backfield slot. He's Debo is just
there's just not a lot of guys like him. Cordrell
Patterson's got a little bit of that. I think Debo's
much better. But there are these players that are just
big and talented and you just kind of offensive. Coach
can just kind of figure out where.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
To put him. No, Kyle Shanahan is I think who
was it that had him? Guy Middleclough had him as
the number one coach.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
I would have had him to number one.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
A Andy's one, oh Andy, Andy Reid obviously number one.

Speaker 4 (15:06):
But Shannon's scheming up the best stuff for Debo and
the ultimate Weapon. It's on a team with Christian McCaffrey,
who is catching like a hundred passes in rushing for
a thousand yards.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
T Is deebo a better weapon than than McCaffrey. I
think he might.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
No, no, no, Well, this acaffrey take out Walter Payton,
and there's an argument. McCaffrey is neck conect with Barry Sanders.
Is the best running back in the history of the sport.
He's totally well.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
Damian Tomlinson was unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
I mean he's third. McCaffrey is could start at wide
receiver in the league, could be the best kicking punt returner.

Speaker 4 (15:47):
In the league.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Is the best back you can do? All that debo
is not McCaffrey the running back, know what?

Speaker 4 (15:55):
All right?

Speaker 1 (15:55):
Final? Presciently, I didn't get invited to McCaffrey's wedding, and
I was there in town. You feel slighted a little bit.
His dad saw me though, came over and said I
apologized and came over. It was you know, it felt
terrible that I wasn't best man. The whole thing didn't
sit well with me. But I'm not going to get
into it.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
That's not not a big deal. Final story, you know,
let's get back to talking about dumpster fires. The New
York Giants.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
Gosh, I love when you take shots at this team. Obviously,
they they tried to move Daniel Jones this offseason, specifically
trading up for a franchise quarterback, although they didn't get one.
On Hard Knocks, GM, Joe Shane asked the room if
the group had seen enough of them to trade up
for Jaydon Daniels, to which Brian Dabele responds, I would yep.

(16:44):
And on hard Knocks they explored the possibility of trading
up for Drake May.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
So they were quarterback hunting.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Oh, there's absolutely no dispute. The Giants were quarterback hunting.
But here's here's where I'm gonna defend. I think Dable's
actually oh no, I'm not going to defend Joe Shane.
I'll defend Dave Bold because I don't know where I
land on Joe Shane. But we suggested, and this is
what somebody I trust in the NFL, and there's been
a source for me. Mara really wanted them to sign

(17:13):
Daniel Jones because they think he's sort of I mean,
he's much more athletic than Eli, but he almost looks
like Eli Southern kid, you know, both the David Cutcliffe connection.
So there's this sort of he's kind of like Eli's
little brother, and he's not. Eli is one of the
best ever road late game two minute quarterbacks. Never got hurt. Ever,

(17:34):
So if the owner says sign this quarterback to a
contract above his skill set, I'm gonna mostly defend the
coach and the gm who have to deal with all
the shrapnel because he is just And again I don't
want to pick on the kid because he is athletic.
He reminds me of a more athletic Alex Smith.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
You know, his nickname is Vanilla Vick.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
Right, he can run.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
That's a good nickname for Dana Fils. He can run.

Speaker 4 (17:59):
So what you can't throw, well, he.

Speaker 3 (18:04):
Typothetic for the Giants, right, they go five.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
And twelve, Well they're not going to go five and twelve.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Why not?

Speaker 1 (18:10):
Because they I think they've upgraded at receiver. They have
a good coach and a good defense.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
You know, they have one of the lowest win totals
in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
This let's just go quickly. Let's just go to the schedule. Okay,
they get the Vikings at home. They can win that game.
I think they'll win that game, probably be on the
vikings in all these games are winnable?

Speaker 3 (18:29):
Good God, Really the Browns game in Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Deshaun Watson is he gonna play?

Speaker 3 (18:35):
Get Watson? The defense of the Browns is super as loaded.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
There's how many unwinnable? How many unwinnable games here for
the Giants.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
Well, they're not being the Browns. They're not being the count.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
No, they're not beating the raven.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
I don't think they're going to Seattle and well you
Daniel Jones is saving you.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
Don't McDonald. But they could win that game. They can
win every game on this They're not beating the.

Speaker 4 (18:55):
Rocking yourself into these clowns again. They play Carolina bangles
are beating him by third. The Eagles tisna be available?
Huh is Burro gonna be available?

Speaker 2 (19:05):
Is there an injury?

Speaker 1 (19:06):
I don't know about you understand, but look at the schedule.
They'll probably split with Philadelphia.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
They'll probably spend as the Week eighteen game the Eagles.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
Listen. I don't think the Giants are but if I
have a good coach and a good defense, I can
win seven games in a league.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
They go five and twelve. They're not gonna be blowing
out the GM and Dable.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
They both they shouldn't. I don't know what. I don't
love the GM, but I think the coach is too good.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
They're kind of a I don't know if they're a
package deal, but they they can't.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
They'll start looking at this schedule and you know they're
not gonna fit. They can't beat the Saints and the
Panthers and the Bucks and the Falcons and the Colts
getting most of those games at home.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
I know they got to face the Panthers in Munich.

Speaker 4 (19:44):
You can't just go to Munich and show up and
expect to beat Bryce Young.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
Yes, you can. You can beat Bryce Young.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Anyone to tell you this is a five or six
win team. They're gonna be a fun offseason story.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
Are you done?

Speaker 3 (19:59):
Just crap on the for another bite?

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Do you have one more?

Speaker 7 (20:01):
No?

Speaker 3 (20:02):
I mean I've got some more material on the Giants.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
No, I don't want to have crapping on the Giants. Okay,
all right?

Speaker 2 (20:07):
J Mack of the news, Well that's the news, and
thanks for stopping by the herd Line News.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
Let's bring an Albert Breer Monday morning, quarterback sor NFL Report.
I will say I said this yesterday. These Hard Knock shows,
you know, I think a lot of it's playing to
the television, but there about every episode there'll be a moment.
And I've said this before, if you put a camera
in my house with my wife and I knew I

(20:34):
was being taped, at some point, I'd forget about it.
And so you do get these moments in Hard Knocks
where it's like, I think they forgot the camera was
on that whole Mara, Saquon Barkley, Joe Shane. I mean,
I I don't think it's been a great look for
the Giants. Am I being hyper critical? What have you

(20:55):
made of the Hard Knock stuff with them?

Speaker 7 (20:57):
I think this is a good sign of how reaching
in all excess tipping point when it comes to these
sorts of shows, just because they've been everywhere forever now
and so much as being asked to these teams, whether
it's they're in house people, is the NFL films people,
and there's a totally different dynamic than enters. When you're
talking about doing this in the off season, whether it's

(21:18):
this series or the Roku series that you had the
draft for the Rams and the Commanders and the Cardinals
and the Bears. It introduces a whole bunch of new dynamics.
You know, when you're doing it during training camp, Colin,
it's very self contained for the most part. The prominent
players who are on that show are going to be
on your team. You're not really involving other teams quite

(21:40):
as much. The game footage is pretty vanilla. When you're
doing the off season, it's totally different. And so there
are all these people involved in it that maybe didn't
sign up to be a part of it, and so
you see some things that are a little bit different.
And so I think as the NFL has continued to
ask more and more and more of these teams, it's just,
you know, because tougher and tougher and tougher for films

(22:04):
to play between the lines, which I think has affected
the relationship between films and the teams. And so it's
gonna be interesting to see where it goes from here
because I can just I can tell you for a fact,
there are a lot of teams that are watching this
right now and saying, yeah, we'll never sign up for that.

Speaker 1 (22:21):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I saw a story not to go
to New York centric. But I did see a story
the other day where the Aaron Rodgers was given a
heads up that they were considering bringing in Arthur Smith
to help Nathaniel Hackett call plays, and I thought that

(22:41):
that's not good, that's not great. Yeah, if you look
at the Jets season, I think two things will become
very very important. We know they have a good defense,
but defenses don't win the Super Bowl. You got to
score points. The growth of their offensive line left tack,
specifically the health of less tackle a rookie. That'll be key.

(23:03):
And the other thing will be if Aaron loses some
games they should win. Matt Hackett's getting the heat. It's
not gonna be Aaron. I you know, a year ago
I thought Hackett sala Aaron Kumbai Yah. I don't feel
like that now. Is that me or what is the
relationship going there now?

Speaker 7 (23:26):
I think there's a good amount of trust still and
I think they're in a fine place now. Is it
more volatile than it was a year ago? Probably just
because now a year is gone, you know, and there's
always a sense of urgency that they need to win
now because of Aaron Rodgers' age, here's the makeup of
the roster. But that's ratcheted up even another level, and

(23:48):
certainly Nathaniel Hackett is a part of that. Now. You know,
what I would tell you is part of the reason
they were looking at other assistants is because Robert Sala
has always wanted to have a certain number of people
in that quarterback room and he was looking to add
a coach to the quarterback room because they were one
short at the start of the off season, and the

(24:09):
question was were we going to do it with a
high level assistant or a low level assistant, And they
did look at the idea of putting a high level
assistant in there in the quarterback room with Aaron Rodgers,
which would have you know, obviously, I think not only
added to the play calling dynamic, but also you know,
created a situation where if Nathaniel Hackett has a couple

(24:29):
tough games, well then everybody's going to be saying, like,
let's just go with the other guy. Yeah, but the
relationship between Rogers and Hackett is still strong. I think
the relationship between Rogers and Sala is still where it
needs to be. They work through the whole Egypt thing.
Now that it's out there where he is and we
don't have to dance around it anymore. And I do
think the other thing you mentioned is a big part
of this too, Like they really believe the offensive line

(24:51):
is going to be a lot better and one reason
why and not a lot of people have talked about this.
They're over the moon with what they've seen from Olafushana
their first round picks. So yeah, so even if they
do have injuries and they have two older guys there
tackle Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses, they believe they've got
a future Pro Bowl player in Olafshana and the roster
coming in as the eleventh overall pick from Penn State.

(25:13):
So you feel a lot better about their offensive line.
And again, like you know, I think the attitude there
is and this is going to be kind of a
crass way of saying it, Colin, right, like, but if
we win, the whole thing is going to take care
of itself. Yeah, and if we lose, we're probably all
gone anyway. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
Yeah, So I'm getting a little Brandon Nayuk fatigue. But
where they're snoop, there is often fire. I do think
you could get a first round pick for him. I
think if one of their two young receivers they drafted hit.
You've got McCaffrey, Kittle, Jennings, Deebo a young rookie, they
could move him if it got noisy. I think he's

(25:51):
really really good, but I think it to Kyle Shanahan,
Christian McCaffrey, dee bow let offense. That's what I think,
that it's the engine to this offense. I yuk is
some icing on the cake, but I do think they
could move him again if one of the rookies hits,
and I saw both of them playing college. The kid
the fourth round pick maybe better than the first round,

(26:12):
but they can both play. What would if you don't
think he's gonna get moved, what would be the impetus.
Do you think there's a possibility they just get tired
of this it's distracting and they do move him.

Speaker 7 (26:26):
Well, I think we have to look at their history, too, right, Colin,
So go back two years what happened with Deebo Samuel
at this point in the calendar. That thing was probably
worse than this is right now. And if you remember,
the narrative at the time was Deebo Samuel does not
want to play running back, right, they don't. This is
not about money. It's about the wear and Tearn's body.
He doesn't want to carry the ball that way anymore. Period,

(26:48):
end of story. Well what winds up happening. He signs
a contract and this is amazing. This is the amazing thing.
Two years later, the last two years, he's carried the
ball more times on average per game than he did
in twenty two, twenty two when he was looking to
earn twenty twenty one, when he was upset about his role. Right,
So they worked their way through that one. The Nick
Bosa thing lasted all summer last year. I'm bringing these

(27:11):
things up because they've weathered the storm before and this
is a really important year for them. They're going to
have to pay brock perty after this year. The dynamic
from a cap standpoint is going to change. They got
this bottleneck of big contracts in a lot of ways
for this iteration of the Niners.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
This could be it.

Speaker 7 (27:31):
They may have to retool a little bit after this year.
And so they really want to make a run at
winning a championship this year and Brandon and Ayuk's a
huge part of that. On top of that, I think
if it were up to them, and you ask anybody
there who they would rather trade, Brandon Ayuk or Deebo Samuel.
I think ten people out of ten there would say
to you, we trade Samuel and we sign Ayuk. And

(27:53):
the reason why is because Ayuk. They view Ayuk as
a number one receiver for the long term for Brandon
Ayk for for broad party. So they believe that a
you can be the guy there long term, Kittle's older,
McCaffrey's older, Deebo's beat up. Ayuk is a guy you
can look at and say, this is a guy that
the next iteration of the Niners can be built around. So,

(28:15):
both for today and for tomorrow, doing everything he can
to keep Brandon and I makes sense. And their history
shows us again that they've been willing to weather the
storm with these things. They did it both of the
last summers. I think they'll do it again this summer.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
I know this is looking way out through the windshield,
but somebody I trust and I've seen it reported, said,
you know, Belichick's going to do this media thing and
he can. You know, he can trot out on these
shows and be fine. He wants to coach. This is
a coach to the variant parcels tried TV he's a
coach and that this is a one year media thing.

(28:49):
I'm sure Bill will be fine, But is there an argument?
I saw the documentary on Belichick and the Giants, and
I saw Bill publicly get emotional. Never seen that, like
the Giants touch his heart, not just his head, right,
And I think to myself, is it possible that Dallas,
Philadelphia and the Giants are the three upper too if

(29:10):
he came back, those are the three teams? Yeah?

Speaker 7 (29:14):
And you know what sort of a zero game too?
Isn't it like somebody has to finish third in that division?
Somebody has to finish fourth in that division?

Speaker 1 (29:20):
That's right.

Speaker 7 (29:20):
So I think a lot of our attention is going
to be pointed right there, you know, at the NFC
East when it comes to Bill. And I think as
Bill goes through this, he's going to become more likable
and people are going to remember his record over twenty
four years and not just what happened in twenty twenty three. So,
you know, I think as he becomes more likable and

(29:41):
people start to look at the big picture, he's going
to become more appealing. I think this happens in a
lot of cases like this. And then you look at
those teams in the NFC East right well, Philadelphia. My
belief is if that Nick Siria, My belief is that
if Nick Sirianni had been gone after last year, that
either Mike Rabel or Bill Belichick would be the coach
of the Eagles right now. The Giants, obviously there's a

(30:02):
lot of pressure on those guys to win, and there's
the natural connection connections that you mentioned with the Mara family.
Bill still got a very close relationship with John Mahra,
And then there's the Cowboys, which would have the parcels dynamic,
right like the idea of one upping his old boss
and being able to win in Dallas, and the relationship
that he's got with the Joneses, which has gotten closer

(30:22):
and closer over the years. So I think Bill's desire
right now is still the coach, and I think there'll
be opportunity for him after the year. I think you're
right to look at the nfcas I think that's what
we'll be looking at over the course of this year,
because again, somebody has to finish in third, somebody has
to finish in fourth in that division, and I think
what's going to be interesting. It's just kind of to

(30:43):
follow how Bill feels about it, you know, and how
that evolves over the course of the year, because we
have seen it before where you know, Bill cow or
John Gruden, where guys have gotten into media and they
get comfortable with a little bit of an easier life,
and it's like, I don't know if I want to
jump back in so fast. So you know, that's the
part of it that's unpredictable. But I think as of

(31:03):
right now, his intention is to coach, and I think
there's a decent chance he winds up in the NFCS
next year.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
That's just crazy. We root for good stories. That would
be a good Those would be great stories. Albert Breer,
it is great as always, my friend, seeing you.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
Thanks man, all right, thanks calling.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
What would be more interesting? You say, Belichick? I think Belichick,
God Belichick coaching the Eagles, the intensity of that city,
I'd be so crazy.

Speaker 4 (31:30):
So you know, I do this gambling stuff in the NFL,
and I got some buddies who were in deep.

Speaker 3 (31:36):
I had one on my podcast this week. He's picking the.

Speaker 4 (31:38):
Eagles to win the Super Bowl. Win the super Bowl
thinks they run away with the division. Apparently there's some
advanced metrics from last year that are looking good for
the Eagles and injuries.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
Well, I I'm picking them to win the division, don't
you have? I have Philly winning the division. Washington is
a playoff team wild card.

Speaker 4 (31:56):
I'll go Eagles winning the division, but I don't think
I'm ready to Washington to do that.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
But here's the thing. What does Sirianni have to do
to keep his job?

Speaker 1 (32:04):
Because if Bell in the division, he'll keep his job.

Speaker 3 (32:07):
Win the division and lose in the first round.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
Well, I don't know about that. If they win their division,
it means the coordinators that they brought in have hit.
They don't have to be Shane Steichen to be successful.

Speaker 4 (32:17):
You go ten and seven win the division, you didn't
You weren't that impressive.

Speaker 1 (32:21):
If you go ten and seven and win a playoff game,
Sirianni's keeping his job. And that also means that Jalen
Hurts rebounded and was at least effective.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
I'm not I'm not that worried about Hurtz, but I'm
worried about Sirianni. Like if if you've got the names.

Speaker 4 (32:34):
Brear just said Looming, I think you got to do
more than ten wins in a playoff win Like, I
don't care if you beat Atlanta in the playoffs twenty
seven to ten, like that doesn't mean anything. They went
to the Super Bowl and nearly beat the Chiefs. I
think they're real expectations. They've got to make a run.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
Yeah, it's going to get It's harder in the NFC
to make a run this year because I think Detroit,
Green Bay, and the Rams are all going to be
noticeably better.

Speaker 4 (32:58):
Well, we'll see what the Saquon Barkley think. Does there's
an article out there I think I referenced it where
people are saying could have an impact on the Eagles
that McCaffrey had on the Niners.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
Well, Macaffrey's better, but it's possible.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
Maybe we're sleeping a little low on the Eagles. I
don't know. Have you looked at the schedule?

Speaker 1 (33:16):
Maybe we have the schedule. I don't I'm never sleeping
I don't think there are teams I've slept on. I
don't sleep on the Eagles. I pay attention to them.

Speaker 4 (33:24):
It's favorable, like there's a world where there are twelve
win teams there are schedules.

Speaker 1 (33:30):
I still think it's funny that everybody was outraged by
what the Falcons did in the draft and with Cousins,
Atlanta is a guaranteed ten win team. That schedule is
one of the weakest I've ever seen in the league.
Philadelphia's schedule, they still have to go to Dallas. Those
division games are always intense.

Speaker 3 (33:46):
We don't know what Dallas. Dallas is another mystery.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
And I don't think they're making the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (33:50):
I'm starting to warm up to your they could miss
the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (33:54):
Yeah, I was thinking about this this morning. A lot
of the great ideas that come out of this head
in the shower. I'm sitting there putting the head and
shoulders on and just things percolating. If Ceedee Lamb twisted
an ankle for a month, what's the number one weapon
for the Cowboys? They are a twisted ankle to Ceedee

(34:14):
Lamb from being bad. What are their weapons they gave
Dalton Schultz he's in Houston. I mean, they don't the
probably the weakest running back room in the league. Tyron
Smith left at left packle, Michael Gallup's gone. They don't
have I mean, they are really Spartan at weapons.

Speaker 4 (34:35):
Jerry hasn't done McCarthy any favors, Like you win twelve
games the last three years and he's like, hey, here
you go.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
Good Look how about this argument. I'm not a conspiracy theorist,
but if Jerry wanted to get out of the Dak
and McCarthy business, this is how you do it. What
business make it aid to well, you get into a
Belichick business and draft another quarterback. But if you wanted
to get out of the Dak and McCarthy business, bring

(35:03):
in a limited group of weapons, don't make any moves,
put more pressure on Dak Jerry for one year instead
of paying sixty million, this team is going to be
Dak centric. Forty two passes a game that tells you
he's going to struggle and put more pressure, less offense
on McCarthy to win games. Situationally, if you're trying to

(35:26):
get out of the Dak and McCarthy business, the off
season looks like it did for the Cowboys. You take
a step back for a year, get Belichick and draft
a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
It's a little sinister for my liking, but it's not
your worst work. I think there's probably.

Speaker 1 (35:40):
Considering what's been on the internet in the last week.
That's a pretty light conspiracy.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
Tough though ton An eight. How old is Jerry eighty something?
He just punting on the season a we're we're not
winning anything.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
He's not president. You're punting on a football ownership season.
And they'll be okay. But Dak won't be good enough
to give sixty million to and mcarthy he won't be
quite good enough to bring back. They'll still go like
nine and seven.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
But is that a good job if you don't have
a quarterback or and no weapons, and then you got
to pay Michael Parsons.

Speaker 1 (36:10):
I'm sure they'll be able to fill it. By the way,
give me the eagle schedule you said was a cupcake schedule.
That's not a cupcake schedule.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
Is green bays at the tap?

Speaker 1 (36:20):
Look after that time out win win win by timeout
starting out the week, starting in week eight, let me
just name the quarterbacks you face. Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, Dak,
Matt Stafford, Lamar Jackson, Russell Wilson.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
Dassel Wilson.

Speaker 4 (36:35):
What is he the end of the season, even if
they're like, oh, nine and six, look at that Carolina
they're gonna.

Speaker 1 (36:42):
Be Shandon Daniels when he walks in and looks like
Lamar Jackson. L L. Let's go to the Cowboys schedule. Come,
let's go to the Cowboys schedule. Here, crank this up, graphic, guys, that.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
Eagle schedule the last six games or.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
A joke, it's kind of a it's it's it's it's
a there's a lot.

Speaker 3 (36:59):
The problem They've got the Browns on the road week one.

Speaker 1 (37:02):
And then they have that is that is a game.
That's a lot of close games, clear game Baltimore, Detroit,
San Francisco, Atlanta, Philly, Houston, Cincinnati. That is a it's tougher.
That is a close game schedule, the kind that Mike
McCarthy's situational blundering could lead to his.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
That's what happened to win the division.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
So they go before the buye against Detroit, which is
very good. Detroit had him beat in Dallas last do
you remember that game? And then they go to the
by and they come out in San Francisco.

Speaker 1 (37:35):
I'm telling you right now, this Cowboy schedule. And they
made no moves in free agency. The pressure is all
on deck to produce. They got like seven elite quarterbacks
in this schedule with better weapons than back has wrap
it up next.

Speaker 2 (37:51):

Saturday, it's Baseball Night and America on Fox as the
Red Sox take on Show Hey Otani and the Dodgers
for the Diamondbacks.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
Take on the Cubs. It all begins at seventiestern on Fox.

Speaker 4 (38:47):
Check local listings for the game in your area.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
By the way, baseball ratings are up. Women's basketball ratings
are up. F one ratings are up. Soccer the Euros
and the Kopa up. NFL last year up, College football up.
NBA down? Why is that?

Speaker 3 (39:08):
And then the NBA's the whatterfolt to get that billion dollars.

Speaker 1 (39:12):
They've always had money. But why If I said to you,
why is that? Now? The Internet will tell you there's
so many cultural factors. My argument is the league's gotten
very global and so we're segueing from the Lebron Kadi
Steph League to the Jannis Jokich Wemby League and we're
gonna have about a two year window here. You just

(39:32):
have to be you have. We're kind of rebooting with
new star. The league really weighed in heavy on Steph
and Lebron for fifteen years, did not develop a lot
of other stars. Some weren't guys that wanted to be stars.
But I do think the NBA is gonna be fine.
We know they're gonna be fine with money. But I
think it's easy to say what you want. But the
reason the WNBA ratings are up, we've introduced a new star,

(39:54):
and the NFL ratings are up. They continually introduce new
stars Brady Leaves. Now you got Josh Lamar, CJ. Stroud. Baseball,
by the way, is up. Some of it is the
shortening of the game. But Otani is a Dodger's like
introducing a new star.

Speaker 3 (40:08):
Do you remember the big star before Otani? It was Trout?

Speaker 1 (40:11):
Nobody cared.

Speaker 4 (40:11):
Nobody cares tell you that Otani is a big time
global superstar.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
But I you know, there's a lot of things about
the NBA. I think they could do a better job.
But I will say I think the quality of basketball
is better. But I do think it's gotten very international,
and many international players don't want to be the face
of the league. Wemby an Aunt to me will be
the faces of the league. I don't know if they
are as dynamic as an MJ or a Magic or whatever,

(40:38):
but I mean the hues and the cries of the NBA,
they are just banking money like never before. I think
the biggest mistake the NBA has made Adam Silver's made
in ten years. They've demonized college basketball, which is basically
a micro way, a marketing micro way for your league.
They've demonized it. The last star out of college was Zion.

(41:01):
You know, I know who he is Duke and Nike.
His shoe blew up. That's why I know him. I
think they've demonized it. They have elevated the G League.
Nobody watches it. The coaching's not great. The G League
is not your answer. Use college basketball, which you may
be able to do now because NIL is going to
pay some top players. Use college basketball as free marketing.

Speaker 3 (41:24):
Zach edy he's a rookie the year.

Speaker 1 (41:27):
I can't wait to watch Zach Edie play Why March's
Madness in perfect good point. So I think college basket.
I think you're going to get a little more college basketball.
Start him pivoting to the NBA. Kids are going to
stay in college or go to college that wouldn't have
previously because of the NIL
