Here we go at our two shows just starting live

Speaker 3 (00:30):
It's The Herd.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Wherever you may be and however you may be listening.
Thanks for making us part of your day. By the
way we put it up. Do we put it up
on my social media? Anthony Davis, Jason Tatum, who do
you want? I have said this, You've got to be
fair in our business For years I said about Anthony Davis,
dad bod doesn't train enough. He had a reputation of soft,
wouldn't play through injuries. Two years ago something happened, whether
(00:52):
it was diet, physical training, Barkley banging on and calling
him street clothes. The dude has given us two great
year as a top five player. I think he's the
best defensive player in the NBA. He's one of the
few guys that makes Jokic work for it, and so
we'll get updates on the poll. You have been telling
me for years. Jason Tatum is the man in my takeaway?
(01:14):
Has then why in the Eastern Conference finals? In the
finals is Jalen Brown getting MVP?
Speaker 4 (01:20):
He got the MVP, but who led them in points,
rebounds and assists in the playoffs. Jason Tatum, my guy.
He's a top five player in the league.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Fox Show.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
I don't think there's any doubt about that, except from
the guy I'm sitting across from.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
Okay, I like, Jayson Tatum, Sure you do, Sure sound
like you do. Okay, so I said, I thought this
was so crazy. The Friday newsed up by the Cowboys,
and then they had the press conference yesterday. Our radio
audience won't be able to see the air quotes by
Steven Jones, but just watch this again.
Speaker 5 (01:52):
Obviously, we're also evaluating where it didn't go right, you know,
in terms of you know this drout that people say
we're in terms of a championship game or a super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
It's twenty nine years. There's no reason for air quotes.
What they say is a drought. I'll put the last
NFC championship appearance on the screen just in the NFC
twenty nine years. And then Jerry had another SoundBite, and
I'm not sure the point he was trying to make.
Speaker 6 (02:27):
If you don't think I can operate out of my
comfort zone, you're so wrong.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
It's unbelieve.
Speaker 7 (02:34):
This is as big a risk as you can take,
no head coaching experience.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Yes, that's what the critics are saying, this is a
huge risk, no coaching experience. I think Jerry is validating
his critics. And with that, Nick Wright, first thing, first,
let's talk about more positive things. Let's talk about winners.
So yesterday I didn't buy into the official thing one
(03:03):
of the things and I talked about because I know
you're a great poker player, and I said, Spags and
Andy Reid once again in a matchup against Buffalo are
better poker players. They save, they go all in on
one or two hands. They always known to do it.
And I said, what drove me crazy about Buffalo is
(03:26):
when you go into one of these final tables, you
gotta save your best. You gotta bluff and save your best.
The Josh Allen tush pushes drove me crazy. Now, right,
they tell it. They told you basically early in the game,
this is what we're gonna do every single play on
(03:47):
fourth and one. Did you feel the same?
Speaker 8 (03:51):
Oh? I felt a lot of things. First of all,
credit to you, Colin. You called this one early. The
Buffalo Bills still the Chiefs without the trophies, maybe always
will be the Chiefs without the trophies, and we can
get to your analysis of the game. I would be
remiss to not acknowledge you and Jmax's analysis before the game.
(04:13):
Why don't you just pick the team that always wins
to win? It would be easy. I understand Jmax. Jmack
has dug the hole too deep. He's just like, can't
say he's gonna hate me forever anyway. So I'll just
triple down on it every year. Eventually I'll be right
and I'll be able to declare victory. You, Colin, could
just be right, just be like Mahomes and Reed. I'll
(04:36):
just go with them. But so maybe next year, maybe
when they're going for the four peet, we'll see. Now,
your point about the QB sneaks was a great one.
I thought your point. I hadn't thought about it from
the perspective of Jalen Hurts a little undersized, Josh Allen
a little not oversized, but real big that it makes
it almost harder for Jalen to get a bad spot.
(05:00):
Josh like, so all of that's good, but I think
there is a bigger point that you're kind of making.
But it's the one I was hammering all year, and
it's why I found the chief skepticism so absurd all year.
How many times do they have to show you that
(05:23):
they are saving their best stuff for the biggest moment.
How many times do the Chiefs have to show you
that they will use games during the year. How many
during the season. You know, we saw a lot of
men Mahomes and Xavier are Worthy not quite on the
same page. He can't get his feet down, he can't
(05:44):
track the ball. They practiced it in games again and
again and again, and then they hit it in a
huge spot during the first matchup with the Bills. Mahomes
zero rushes during the playoff game against the Bills a
career high in rushes. Contrast that common and this we're
all bringing to the to the tush push stuff to
the Bills approach the Bill. The Bills tush push this
(06:08):
season was from a statistical perspective more effective than even
the Eagles tush push. Yes, Yes, the Bills found something
that worked, Colin, and just like, okay, this is what
we do. Are we gonna work on something new, Nopeird's
gonna go the thing that works. Are we gonna have
an alternative? Nopeerd's gonna go to the things that works.
(06:28):
Are we going to No, We're just gonna put it
on tape two dozen times, doing it the exact same way.
Because it's so effective in the regular season. And then
in the playoffs, two things have happened. One you have
given the chiefs an hour's worth of film on exactly
how you run your critical play, and two you don't
(06:51):
have an alternative because you've just been doing the thing
that works. And so it is. I just really hope
people learn from this season that on certain teams, yeah,
they can't be evaluated by point differential or by explosive
performances because they are actually planning for Game twenty during
(07:14):
Game seven, and certain other teams are treating every game
like the super Bowl, which is great until and of course,
you are playing a game to get to the super
Bowl and you don't have another gear.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
So I defended Josh Allen. He had a bad first drive.
I don't think he had the better coach or the
better coordinator. I thought the best head coach and best
coordinator were on the other team. Kincaid should have caught
the ball. They didn't call a single play for James
Cook in the final drive. Inexplicable to me. So I
did feel like, I mean, even on the toush push,
(07:48):
Josh did everything he could. I mean, the truth is
the fact that he got the ball off on that
final play to Kincaid. It's a remarkably athletic play that
he even got it off, even if he threw it
to the wrong guy. But I didn't put a lot
of the onus on Josh, do you.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
So?
Speaker 8 (08:06):
I think I think we might find a common ground here, Colin.
I think Josh did everything he could have on the
final play, while also coming up very short on the
final drive. The fourth and five was dead on arrival
(08:26):
when they misidentified the blitz. Now, maybe that's on Josh,
maybe not. It seems like the former offensive lineman, quarterback
and you know football, all twenty two folks are in
an internet war about that play, and I'm staying out
of it. I'm like, I don't know, guys, I probably
would have missed the blitzer too. You guys figure that out.
Once that free runner was in Josh's face on fourth
(08:48):
and five, he made as good of a play as
you can make. I don't think it's fair to say
kink Aig should have caught it. I would say he
could have caught it. So that part I agree with.
But the flip side to that coin is this colin
three point thirty three, left all three timeouts down three points,
biggest drive your life, six play seventeen yards. That's not great,
(09:13):
Which is not great We can talk about. This is
about Mahomes's greatness. Josh was in a position that I
am a Chiefs fan. It's the worst feeling there is,
which it's like, oh my god, Patrick might not get
the ball back. They have the like you're in a
spot where Patrick might not get last licks and for
(09:38):
Josh to go into that and they get the first
down on his scramble, and then first and ten, he
has the worst throw he's had all games since the
opening two throws over Shakir's head. Second and ten he
dirts one essentially to Curtis Samuel Now you're in third
and ten, which set the table for fourth and five.
(10:00):
And now again, I think he's the second best quarterback
in football. I also think, if we are being fair,
two years in a row he has had the ball
in his hands down three points in a game he
was either favored in at home or it was basically
a pick them in a spot that he can go win.
(10:22):
And last year, first in ten or second and nine,
he misses the guy third and nine, he gets rushed
fourth down. They missed the field goal, but still it
would have been the Homes all of a minute forty left
and yesterday three point thirty three left three timeouts, down
three points on the thirty yard line. To get seventeen
yards out of that drive is a miss, and the
(10:45):
flip side to it is Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs
had a more successful, far more successful drive trying to
run the clock out than the Bills had trying to
save their season. So I'm not killing him for it.
But if you want to beat a legend, you have
to have a legendary moment, and he didn't.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
So it's interesting. Let's say Mahomes wins this third in
a row. So Bill Russell had eleven titles, but the
time Michael got to three forget six, there was an
understanding we're looking at the greatest player of all time.
There was a sense that they put it on his statue.
Speaker 8 (11:21):
Yeah it's engraved.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (11:23):
After three titles he retired said the greatest ever was
the greatest there ever will be. Nobody was like, but
Magic's got five Yeah, exactly, go right. And so Otani,
even with the Angels, he didn't have to have Babe
Ruth's entire career. We're like, yeah, that's better than Babe
Ruth because we have eyes and were reasonable.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Right, Let's say it's like, yeah.
Speaker 8 (11:41):
I don't know that Otani being better than Babe Ruth
is a universally held opinion. But I like that you
are trying to move the Overton window to Hey.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
I said it.
Speaker 8 (11:51):
Now everyone agrees. I love the take, but I don't
know that that is you know, the consensus. But go ahead,
I'm with you on this.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
So Tom's the most hardware, but there is and and
by the way, for years and years Montana had more
than Tom. But there was a feeling the minute Tom
won his fourth we were like, yeah, it's it's but
in football's weird, because in football it really comes down to, like,
(12:19):
you know, we're just gonna look at Tom's Hardware's insane,
and nobody's saying Tom's less. But there is something about
Jordan's game against Russell and you're just like, yeah, I've
never seen anything like that, and I've been watching basketball
fifty years. Mahomes is doing stuff where I mean, whether
he's manipulating officials, throwing with his left hand, it just
(12:39):
looks crazy. If he wins a third straight, do you
think the discussions will begin? Okay, forget numbers. That's the
best quarterback ever.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
So.
Speaker 8 (12:53):
Definitively the discussions will begin. Now, let me say something
in just the see Mahomes guy. Let me say what
Patrick I know for a fact, would say about this
exact topic right now. Now if he wins another one,
maybe it's changes. He would say. The hard part is
(13:13):
going to be that Tom beat me in a super Bowl,
and that in the where the Russell Jordan thing falls
a little flat is they did in fairness play twice
in the postseason and Tom won both. Now one of them,
you know, Patrick drove him down the field, tied the game,
never got the ball in overtime, but the you know,
the league who rigs everything for the Chiefs, didn't change
(13:36):
the rules based on that overtime. They only changed the
rules when the Chiefs did that to the Bills. Of course,
just remember so that that's a fair point, and folks
be like they played and he won. It also is
crazy that if you just change one result, say if
you like, change the Tampa Chiefs Super Bowl, change one
(13:57):
football game, and all of a sudden, instead of right
now it's seven to three, it's six to four with
Patrick going for five, and it's like, well, this thing's
over already. But those results didn't change. He won those games.
The flip side is the guy has been the best
player in the league since the first game he played,
(14:18):
and we've never seen that before. He's never had a
down year. He's never had a down season. The worst
year of his career, they win twelve thirteen games. They
lose an overtime of the conference championship game. The idea
that if we want to treat his first season like
(14:40):
his learning year, he five thousand yards, fifty touchdowns overtime
against the goat in the AFC title game. He has
played six years since then, they have been to five
Super Bowls. Yeah, five super Bowls in six years, and
they've won three. We'll see if they win four. So
and if you pull off the three peat, then you
(15:02):
do have something not only that Tom doesn't have that
no one else ever has. So here's what I would say.
I think he's the best player ever. I think Tom
is the greatest of all time. I look at those
two different things. One is more about talent and nobility,
and one is more about accomplishment. If Patrick were to
pull off a three peat, I not only do I
(15:25):
no longer think he has to get to eight. I
don't think he has to get to seven for it
to be a consensus opinion. I think if Patrick pulls
off a three peat and gets six rings, and then
it's like, Okay, he's just the greatest we've ever seen.
And I will say this. Here is the other stunning
piece of it. Colin Patrick just played in his seventh
(15:47):
conference championship game. He's twenty nine years old. Tom Brady
did not play in his seventh until he was thirty five.
So when people are talking about will Patrick play long
enough to catch Tom on the ring stuff, he might
not have to because there was that drought for Tom
(16:07):
as great as he was in the middle, and I
don't see that drought ever coming for Patrick. A ten
year zero super Bowl drought seems unfathomable given what we've
seen from this player. Now.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
In defense of Brady, Whereas Mahomes got Andy Reid, Montana
got Bill Walsh, Tom had to deal with you know, Belichick,
who thinks Matt Patricia's and oc I won't go I.
Speaker 8 (16:34):
Mean, okay again, I'm not going to again. You're putting
me in. It's like, hey, Nick, want to come on
the network's best show, and you know, try to tear
down a bit the network's biggest employee. Not what I'm
trying to do. However, if you're going to go after Belichick,
I am going to remind everyone that first Super Bowl,
(16:56):
I think they scored the whole playoff run three offensive
touchdowns and the defense was pretty good. And so if
we can say he didn't have an offensive mastermind, but
that all one season, you know, they did win some
playoff games without getting to twenty points. The defense that
Belichick I think had some hand in was probably a
(17:18):
little helpful. Okay, maybe a little.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Okay, We're gonna have a final question, So we posed
this earlier. I have never I think Jason Tatum's an
excellent player, but I never bought into the top five
guy in the league stuff. I said their game. I
said this three years ago, their games. I think Jalen
Brown wants the ball more. In fact, I think they
moved Marcus Smart out of town because he was taking
the ball to Jason Tatum's hands. Jordan wouldn't allow that.
(17:42):
The late Kobe wouldn't allow that. So I said this.
I didn't love Anthony Davis early career. I thought he
was soft. I didn't think he played through injuries. I
didn't think he was in the greatest shape. The last
two to two and a half years, he's been the
best defensive player. He's a dominating force. You really can't
defend him. When he plays the way he wants to play,
(18:03):
which is a Big four, it's virtually impossible, maybe not
Jokic levels to defend. So I said today he had
another monster Knight. Unbelievable. And I said, if you're asking
me today who the better player is, especially now, for
the next three to four or five years, I'm like, oh,
I think it's Anthony Davis. Jay Mack is a Jason Tatum, guy,
So I think he is much more intimidating defensively from rebounding.
(18:25):
I think he is a dominant twelve feet and in player.
And the other thing is I never when I turn
a game on, I always said this about Lebron. You
just your eyes go to Anthony Davis immediately he is
on the floor. There are offensive possessions in the playoffs
for Jason Tatum, I'm not sure he's playing. Who's a
better player today?
Speaker 8 (18:45):
Well, oh gosh, darn, I didn't. This is.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
What a question?
Speaker 8 (18:52):
Because it is here's the thing, top five or not?
What is definitively true and you were right about is
in the Jokichiannis Luca tier Tatum is not. Now Is
Shay in that tier? Now? Maybe? And so call that
four guys. I know Luca's hurt, and then there's a
real debate who would be next. I I would rather
(19:19):
have Anthony Davis boom because I now, listen, I want
to be fair here. I think that I well, no,
I'm trying to just be totally honest about it. They listen.
They both have performed excellent on deep playoff runs. You
know what I mean? They I understand Tatum wasn't great
(19:42):
in last year's finals, but he was fine like they
and they won easily. I think that let me put
it like this, I think that Anthony Davis at his
best is better. If you told me, I know, I'm
himming and hang, but I want to give you a
real answer. The the best of Anthony Davis is better
than the best of Jason Tatums. I do think Jason
(20:04):
Tatum over the course of a season probably adds a
little more impact than Ad has shown over the course
of the breath and width of his career. But Ad
when he is locked in. Because I agree with your
first point, I think Anthony Davis is the best defensive
player in the league, and it's a crime he's never
(20:25):
won Defensive Player of the Year. So when you're you
get that from him basically every night. When you add
to it, he can do this type of stuff offensively,
he hasn't really fully unlocked it the way you would
have hoped. I get it. It's probably a little disrespectful
to Tatum, but you don't mind, you know, flirting with
a little Tatum disrespect and I respect that from you.
(20:46):
And so yeah, I mean, let me put it like this,
do I think last year, if you switch them, put
Tatum on the Lakers and Anthony Davis on the Celtics,
Do I think the Lakers go further in the playoffs?
Obviously not. Do I think the Celtic all of a
sudden don't win a championship? Obviously not. And this year,
when the Celtics have I think, real competition, do I
(21:10):
think they might be better because of how they're built
with Anthony Davis and said of Jason Tatum, I think
there's an argument there. I think that you're also gonna
get man. People in Boston already like they'd kind of
given me a break for a bit. Now you've got
me back on this DATU stuff with you. I don't
need to drown on this ship with you. I don't
know why you're pulling me into it.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
One of them just feels so if you told me
I have a series seven game series, I'm taking Anthony Davis.
I don't know about five years, ten years. I got
a seven game series. And you know who's going to
be in that seven game series is going to be
a Yo Kicch is a Yiannis And it's like, oh.
Speaker 8 (21:47):
Well, that's a whole other thing if we're talking about, like,
if we're trying to get through the people you have
to get through. I understand that you're swaying me more
and more. But again, I haven't. I got to tell
you something, Colin, I'm on such a Chief's sugar high.
I couldn't. I mean, you might as well just ask
me about Badminton. I haven't thought about the Lakers in
(22:07):
a week, Like, I mean, I'll tell you what I
have done. Rewatch that game three times? Oh my god,
all the calls, the calls, how about the phantom DPI
on the Chiefs that nobody cares about. Hey, I mean,
give me everybody, can I I gotta say one thing
to you. Yeah, but just because it's a big platform,
(22:27):
your show. Fellow members of the media, please stop letting
the tail wag the dog. It is not supposed to
be that we in members of mainstream media, scroll the
algorithm bastardized for you tab and be like, well, this
is what people are talking about, and therefore we talk
(22:50):
about it. It's supposed to be the other way around.
We set the conversation. So this whole idea of we
have no choice but to talk about the officiation after
the AFC Championship game. Why because Doug Kleiman and mL Football,
who aren't real people, populated your Twitter feed with it.
Grow up, everybody. I agree, not you, Colin, You've done
(23:12):
a good job.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
Yeah, I agree. I don't. I don't believe in luck.
I think Kansas City, situationally, circumstantially is the best football team,
which New England was for twenty years, and Kansas City
grabbed the baton and now they're doing it for the
foreseeable future. Nick right, First things first is always buddy
great seeing you see you. Buddy through the fort got
him off balance on that eighty Jason Tatum, what's our poll? Say?
Speaker 4 (23:34):
So wes our social media maven just posted it. There's
not many votes, you know, a little under thirteen hundred votes,
Anthony Davis pulling at twenty percent, Jason Tatum at seventy
nine point eight percent. So the audience overwhelmingly siding with.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
J Mack on the Jason Tatum. You know what that is?
East Coast people drinking early in the morning. West Coast
people aren't up. Yes, they're having of a toast. If
you've been thinking about home security, now's the time to
join the millions of Americans who trust simply say fifty
percent off a new system with professional monitoring plans. There's
no safe like simply safe.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
One more heard. The Herd streams twenty four hours a day,
seven days a week within the iHeartRadio app. Search Herd

Speaker 1 (24:21):
Kyle Van Noy, Greg Olsen. Today, first jamac with a news.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
No no, turn on the news. This is the Herd
Line News.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
All Right, Cohen, Who's start Colin with Liam Cohen, who
became the first NFL coordinator in at least the past
twenty five years to average more than twenty eight points
per game, average more than six yards per play. I mean, basically,
the Tampa offense was incredible. Now he's in Jacksonville with
Trevor Lawrence. Now, I will say Cohen had a bit
(24:52):
of an awkward press conference. I know you're big on these.
Here is Cohen excitedly talking about his new.
Speaker 6 (24:58):
Kobis do we make Trevor Lawrence in this offense as
dynamic and explosive as.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
We can be?
Speaker 6 (25:06):
Right, we've got to build it around him as well. Right,
We've got to make every part of this about improvement.
And he will be a part of that process. He's
earned that right. I cannot respect his toughness and mentality
and work ethic more than I do already from afar
and this will all, this will all be about.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
Trevor right now.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
And people don't like that.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
Well, no, we were saving the best for this moment.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
So we have this clip.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
There's this saying in Jacksonville Duvall, Duval County, and here's
Liam Cullen for some reason, just shouting Duvall.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Oh boy, what duve All.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
People didn't like that. I don't know, man, I'm gonna
give all these First time I saw Nick Sirianni wear
a jersey Sunday.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
Well, wait a minute, wait, he's going to the super Bowl.
This is hello, I'm your new coach, Dove. Well, it's
just goofy. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
Sirianni is not good at the podium.
Speaker 8 (26:05):
He's not. I think here's the thing.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
I think Cohen will be successful in Jacksonville. He's got
Trevor Lawrence. I'm surprised that how many people have bailed
on Trevor Lawrence already.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
It's like, well, I think I don't know if people
are bailing, but people are watching the games and they
don't see him elevated. Greg co Sell has never been
a big fan. I've been on Greg and I rarely
disagree on quarterbacks. He and I are on opposite sides
or close to it. On Trevor Lawrence, I like him,
He's not as big a fan all right, over under.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
One half super Bowl trip for Trevor Lawrence in his career,
So he'll never make the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
No, doesn't mean he can't win playoff games. And if
his next six years he wins five playoff games for
this franchise and this thing with Liam Cohen works, I
think you have to say it's a successful career.
Speaker 8 (26:56):
So you don't think Trevor Lawrence and make a Super
w No.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
I think what's happened is since he got into the league,
the quarterback play is getting better and better and better.
I mean, God, look at this league this year. Caleb Jayden, Boonicks,
Pennix McCarthy, Drake May. We could have six guys that
all worked. There's the Burrough Herbert Tua class with hers.
We're getting these classes now on a regular basis every
(27:18):
three years where like four or five guys can play.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
You know, you know, the Warren Buffett saying, when everybody's
running away, you should run in like running back jumping.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
You and I, You and nine running backs. Everybody ran
away running backs. You and I were like no, no, no, no,
no no. Remember when everybody was selling running back and
we're like no, running backs are more valuable big picture,
long term to a quarterback than a receiver that goes
against what you You think. Receiver's a best friend. No,
dog's a man's best friend. Running backs to quarterback's best friend.
(27:48):
I'm buying Trevor Lawrence stock.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
Next story, Colin is the Vegas Raiders. You know they
were one of the big winners yesterday because their coach
Pete Carroll that a normal press conference.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
He was not weird.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
This guy's been around the block seventy three years old.
Talked about his relationship with new Raiders GM John Spytech.
Speaker 7 (28:07):
I think it's a perfect mess opportunity for us to
show you how important it is for this relationship to
be at the tip of the spear for our programs.
His background, his mentality, his devotion to character in football
(28:27):
and the game, and then have a respect for what
it takes to make this thing strong and right.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Has just hit me right in my heart.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
Yeah, I think spy Tech comes from Jason Light. You know,
I'm a huge fan of the Buccaneers GM's he has
been his right hand man for many years, and he
was part of I mean, Tampa's had a ton of
good drafts. I think spy Tech and Pete are that's
about I kind of felt like the Raiders have been
kind of just Ham and Egg in it for years.
(28:56):
They don't quite have it right. This is to me,
he's a GM coach. This is the best job Mark
Davis has done. Like I like Telesco, but Antonio Pierce,
I'm like interim coach. I'm not sure this is winning coach.
Excellent GM prospect out of a very good drafting team,
(29:17):
worked under one of the shrewdest best drafters in the
league the last ten years. I like it a lot.
Who is their quarterback?
Speaker 8 (29:23):
Week one?
Speaker 1 (29:24):
Well, I told you I would go Kirk Cousins for
a year. I would. I would if I would draft
Shador Sanders if available, probably won't be. I would go
get the Raiders have ten picks on a lot of
cap space. I would get Kirk Cousins for a year,
and then I would draft, if I could either a
Jackson Dart or a Kyle McCord, give it a run
for a year behind Kirk Cousins, see what it looks like,
(29:47):
and then next year's draft quarterback draft class is much better.
And if a year in the backup doesn't look the part,
then you go draft the position again.
Speaker 8 (29:56):
Justin Fields.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
If he hits, no, I'm not interested Sam Darnold, I
would Donald.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
Or a Cousins.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Well, no, Donold's better than Cousins, but I don't want
to get locked in four years with Sam. So I'm
telling my take is go draft with your second pick.
First pick, go get a weapons second pick. If you're
the Raiders, go get again. There's a I don't think
Riley Leonard is a second round pick. He's more fourth.
Will Howard I talked, is his more fifth. I think
(30:27):
Jackson dark.
Speaker 8 (30:28):
Daylen Milroe do anything.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
He won't be available. He could be if he's available
in the Raiders second pick. Maybe that's the guy.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
Okay, Now I mentioned Justin Fields because our final story
is about the Steelers and you know, disappointing end of
the season despite.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
An awesome start.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
Owner Art Rooney the Second said yesterday he'd like to
resign either either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields. When asked
about head coach Mike Tomlin, Rooney said, when you look
at how many games Mike is won in this league,
you don't win that many games if you're not a
good coach.
Speaker 1 (30:59):
And I know he's frustrat like we all are in
terms of.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
Not being able to take that next step, but we
still feel good about him being the leader and still
think he has the strengths that he always had in
terms of being able to lead a team. One of
our producers here had a good take that you know,
the Cowboys are starting to kind of fail to the bottom.
They're headed down, down, down, and are the Pittsburgh Steelers
(31:21):
going to be the new Cowboys? Just headed down because
they can't figure out quarterback and they're investing in defense.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
Again, if if Cleveland land Shader Sanders, who is a
pocket quarterback, with Kevin Stefanski, who is a pocket coach
quarterback more than he is a mbile quarterback, then I
think I think that's trouble.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
Steel ER's have the worst quarterback in the division.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
Again, I don't want to make it sound like Russell
and Justin can't play. I told you we're renaming this
franchise the Pittsburgh Stailers. They are stale. They continue to
lead the NFL year after year. Next year will be
year number four in a row in succession. Most money
paid to defensive players. That is not winning playoff games.
Speaker 8 (32:07):
Okay, how's this?
Speaker 4 (32:08):
I had floated the idea of trading TJ. Watt last offseason.
I think that's a smart move, and they're outraged by that. Well,
it looked bad for like ten weeks, and then it
starts to look smart at the end of the season.
Speaker 8 (32:20):
I'm just curious, do you revisit that?
Speaker 4 (32:21):
You say, hey, yes, if you're drafting second whoever you are, TJ.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Watt and I.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Interviewed Wat and some think about this. You're in a
division with Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson, and you don't
think it's viable to trade a couple of first round
picks a TJ. Watt. Maybe throwing George Pickens if he
drives you nuts to go get Shador Sanders. What's crazy
is not taking a swing or running it back with us.
(32:46):
Pittsburgh's too good to get a top ten pick, so
you're gonna have to at some point, Pittsburgh is gonna
be too good to win eight to nine games, ten games,
You're too good to get a top eight pick. So
what does that mean? You're gonna have to at some
point give stuff up. And so to me, it's crazy
not to consider moving TJ. Watt a couple of first
and again, if I had to throw in George Pickens,
(33:08):
the Steelers draft wide receivers and pass rushers as well
as anybody in the sport.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
And remember Baltimore got Lamar At I believe, thirty second
in the first round.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
So maybe you don't have to go up.
Speaker 4 (33:18):
If the Steelers think that they can build something with
Jalen Milroe.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
Yeah, I mean, maybe next year's draft is so good,
I mean, maybe the Steelers go up Jalen Millrow. Maybe
the answer, but the idea that it's ludicrous to consider
moving off a great defensive player and first round picks
to get quarterback salt if you let the Browns. If
the Browns get either cam Ward or should or Sanders
(33:42):
and they're both capable of they're both franchise quarterbacks, I
think then you're the only franchise Lamar Chauduur Joe Burrow.
Speaker 9 (33:53):
Not to mention Herbert Mahomes Allen like that, J Stroud,
Trevor Lawrence, and I will tell you this, Sam Darnold
to the Colts, to me, is a perfect fit.
Speaker 4 (34:06):
But yeah, if you don't have a quarterback right now,
it's just like what do we do? And it's tough
to find him. It's you just have no chance for really,
Isn't it.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Funny that it's met with outrage when you consider saying, listen,
you guys will find pass rushers. You can't pay a
fortune for a sake.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
He's going to the Hall of Fame obviously, and nobody's
questioning that. But you know, Aaron Donald leaves right, Hall
of Famer, All time great. Jared First comes in and
is like, oh my god, what do we have here?
Speaker 8 (34:32):
You know?

Speaker 1 (35:49):
You know what's interesting is I watch the Chiefs, I
feel like when I watched the Patriots or or it
was the Michael Jordan Bulls. The part of me is
in awe of the spectacle of greatness, and you don't
get a lot of dynasties. Kyle van Noy eleven years,
two super Bowl championships, has now a raven had an
excellent year. So let me ask you, Kyle, when you
(36:09):
watch Kansas City, I know their arrival. Does it drive
you crazy or is part of you saying, listen, man,
I've been in that chair, I've won those close games
with Tom. How do you view it?
Speaker 11 (36:23):
You know, I get really excited, honestly, just because you
know to beat the best, you got to be the best.
You gotta beat them like he's playing and simple. If
you're trying to end something, you need to beat them.
Part of me hates them, part of me respects them.
You gotta respect what they're doing. Andy Reid at the
(36:44):
Helm with Patrick Mahomes, they've been a great team. I
think it's been the three headed monster with Kelsey, Mahomes
and Chris Jones, those three sticking together and then you
can put anybody around them and they seem to figure
it out. Either defend with spags and Chris Jones, or
offensively doesn't even matter who the offensive coordinator as long
(37:06):
as any reads there with Patrick Mahomes. And you know
what's impressive to me is just the amount of games
they've won that are just one score games. It's gone
on all season, and that's what championship teams do. I've
been a part of that where it seems like in
the fourth quarter teams start to shrink and shrivel away,
(37:28):
and they've done a good job of sticking to the plan.
Nobody gets nervous because they know fifteen's going to bail
them out if it comes to that. And then it
seems like on defense they're always going to get that stop.
So they got an awesome thing going and hopefully the
Eagles take advantage in the super Bowl somehow and win.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
You tell me again, you've been on a dynasty. Now
you're watching the Chiefs. How do the Eagles match up? Now,
it's a greenwall of talent, Kyle, they got nothing but
dudes everywhere. How do they match up?
Speaker 11 (38:00):
I look at it, this matchup, and I think they
match up really well.
Speaker 3 (38:04):
Both teams can go strength on strength.
Speaker 11 (38:07):
You have the Kansas City Chiefs, who methodically have driven
the ball down down the field and have come away
with touchdowns. I think they're one of the top teams
with the longest play drives for touchdown ratio. I believe
the Eagles are the best team defending that. So then
you know, not getting beat over the top, not getting
(38:29):
beat with big plays. You're gonna have to drive this
length of the field against the Eagles defensively, and they
match up really well because they tighten up in the
in the red area. Now offensively, the Chiefs, to me,
they struggle a little bit against the run. They perform,
you know well when it matters, but Sakwan's a different beast.
(38:51):
I don't think they faced it o line like they
have with the Eagles. And then what's gonna come down
as the X factor to me is Jalen Hurts. Is
he going to be able to make the throws when
he needs to? And I believe he can. I think
him and Aj Brown got into a little rhythm last week.
You saw that fourth down conversion with the go ball.
(39:14):
It's not my favorite thing to do, but when you
have AJ Brown a true number one, it's a good decision.
He came down with it and then he had a
touchdown in the game. I felt that chemistry really helped
them and hopefully it'll gain traction going into.
Speaker 3 (39:26):
This last game.
Speaker 1 (39:28):
Final question. One of my favorite guys, Kyle Van No,
he got a couple of minutes here. Listen, Lamar is great.
I'm as big as fan. The reality is, when Tiger
was in his prime, nobody was beaten them. That's just
the reality of it. What do the Ravens do to
get to that next level? You're close? I love Lamar.
It was a bad day for Mark Andrews. It happens.
(39:48):
What is the vibe in Baltimore today after another gutting
playoff lost? Kyle, Yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
Love Lamar too, and I'm sure he appreciates.
Speaker 11 (39:59):
You being one of his biggest fans, especially with the
amount of people that aren't for whatever reason. If you
just watch the tape and you watch them, it's greatness.
You know something I'll bring up. You saw the other
night Josh Allen had two throws really weren't very good throws,
and then he had another couple later on that didn't
(40:20):
happen to be turnovers, right, and then everyone says he's
he played a solid game, you know, which he ended
up doing. Lamar Jackson had two mistakes against the Buffalo
Bills which happened to be turnovers. In one game, you
have Kansas City and you know, Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen,
you know, throwballs that should have been caught for interceptions
(40:44):
they didn't.
Speaker 3 (40:44):
In our game, you know, you have the.
Speaker 11 (40:46):
Fumble and then the one misthrow that happened to be turnovers,
and then he plays lights out before after that during
the second half played unbelievable. It's just getting rid of
those costly mistakes where or the ball bounces where the
team doesn't catch them, where you know, we take advantage
of that, where we don't have turnovers in our games.
(41:10):
And I think he'll clean it up. I think it's
a learning situation. There's many quarterbacks that didn't win until
they were in their thirties of their first Super Bowl.
Lamar is still young, he's still getting better. I think
he's gonna take it up another level. I know he
has another gear. I know he has.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
Another level of play.
Speaker 11 (41:30):
I've seen it in practice and I'm excited to see
it again this year up close, you know, personal being
on the bench watching him and cheering him on.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
Kyle, you just keep playing, You just keep making plays.
You're about midsold and now a minute left. How old
are you right now? Come on, tell me, how do you.
Speaker 11 (41:50):
I'm thirty three. I'll be thirty four this next year.
I'm grateful to keep playing. Yeah, the first Pro Bowl.
A lot of people you know, are pumped about it
with me. I'm excited for all the fans that I
that voted for me. And then you know my play,
it speaks for itself. I'm It's a mic comes down
to a mindset.
Speaker 3 (42:08):
Just like you.
Speaker 11 (42:09):
You're you feel like you're the best at you're detly
like I'm the best at mine.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
Hey, next time you're in LA, come sit on our
said I'd love to see again, buddy.
Speaker 11 (42:18):
Yeah, you already know. It's all love and I'll hope
I hope to see you soon.
Speaker 1 (42:22):
All right. One of the really great guys in this league,
Kyle van Ney, he didn't know what his future was
a couple of years ago and he ends up with
a great organization. Did a nice playoff run. So Kyle
van Noy, good dude, Greg Olsen. Next hour, that guy
loves football. That guy was sitting on this couch that
we turned into a chair. We just saw it right
in half that's what we do. And he's like, I
(42:44):
don't know, man, I miss football. I want to go
play football. I'm available to play football. Boom Ravens worked
out just fine, all right, Jason Tatum, Anthony Davis, come
to your senses on that poll that's available on my
social media platform forms shake yourself people.
Speaker 4 (43:03):
A D.
Speaker 1 (43:05):
Live in Los Angeles. It's the Herd.
