Speaker 3 (00:26):
Fucky you, Friday, Cavino and rich In for Colin on
The Herd. A true pleasure, as I know Cavino's doing.
You're watching the Yankees scratching your ascilator because you've got
your road colors on your gray and navy blue. Look
at you. I can't wait, dude. I'm so pumped. Baseball's
back the weekend this year. Soto hit a bomb tonight
(00:47):
in his first game at City Field, doesn't meit? I hope, Matt,
but yeah, this is a good chance. That'll be sweet. Now, sweet,
I haven't forgiven him. We'll talk about that later on.
For people and players you just can't forgive. That doesn't
mean I hate. I mean I kind of hate them,
but not really. Again. We're at Covino and rich on
social media at Steve Covino at rich Davis. Remember to
(01:08):
catch our podcast search Covino and Rich whe every stream
your podcast and guess what herd Nation. We're having a
big party, doing a live broadcast and everybody's invited. This
is your invite. Don't expect an evy or a personal text.
This is it. We're gonna be in Vegas June twentieth,
twenty first, and twenty second, so book your flights now.
(01:29):
Details to come. We're gonna have a party. We're gonna
have events, three days of fun. We've done it in
the past, but this is a huge party. Hundreds thousands
of people showing up to meet some Fox Sports Radio listeners,
friends of ours. We've been doing this for a long time,
so come and hang with us. We're celebrating. And if
you can only make it one day in Vegas, make
it twenty first, because that'll be the big party night.
(01:50):
Now you know, twentieth, twenty first, twenty second. I know
a lot of the Fox Sports Radio crew will be there.
So again, like you said, June twentieth to the twenty second,
what not to look at the stock market? What to
look at the highlight of that Lakers Warriors game last
night we talked about that man, that was an electric atmosphere.
The game was so fun, so much back and forth.
(02:10):
If you missed our one of the Herd today, we
talked about what do we really want out of the
Western Conference in the playoffs? Because Okase is just so
damn good? But is that what we really want? Do
we do? We lean towards the nostalgia of one more time?
Like a Brady Manning. How many times there was a
(02:30):
point where you're like, come on, one more time? Do
you want Stephen Lebron to battle one more time? Is
that who you want to emerge on the West side?
Speaker 4 (02:38):
Oh yeah, And don't forget we have affiliates listening in
Colorado screaming at their radios.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
What about the Nuggets? What about the Joker?
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Best nuggets Chick fil A by far. But I'll be
honest with the Joker, you can't count him out. And
to be honest, I don't know if anyone has a
big man that could play against you'll get you in
those big situations. And in fact, some argue. I heard
Adam Shine for our old Palette series believable, Hey, who's
(03:08):
better than you? Adam? I heard that Adam Shine, Adam
Shine talking about how perhaps the Lakers with Anthony Davis
before the trade matched up better if they were to
bump into the Denver Nuggets.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Well you could say that for the Lakers against the
Warriors as well. The one thing that I felt one
mistake I feel like the Lakers made. We talked about
it in hour one where they didn't lock down on
defense until towards the end of the game, which you
know is just an effort thing. What about driving to
the hoop? The Warriors are a much smaller team than
the Lakers. On their starting front line, the tallest player
(03:46):
was Jimmy Playoffs at six seven. The Lakers went into
a shooting contest against the Warriors. You're not going to
beat the Warriors like that usually.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
There was a moment in the fourth quarter where they
were going three for three for three, and in my mind,
I'm like, this is sweeten all. But the war win
this battle.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Drive to the hoop, Lakers, That's what they should have done,
and I think in an extended series against the Warriors
they would make that adjustment.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
You know what's interesting, am I you backed me on
this thought or you think I'm incorrect. In all the
major sports football, we've accepted over eight years. Are we
including hot dog eating? You know what ad that? Yeah?
The four majors Football, baseball, basketball, and hot dog eating? Okay,
just making sure though I did go to a Kings
(04:28):
game the other night. Always fun to go to hockey live.
Then I get back to reality. I'm like, man, I'm
not going to watch on TV, but I love going
to a hockey game. I digress. We've accepted over the
years because it's been proven defense wins championships in football.
We've seen it with the Steelers before a lot of
us were born, Steele Curtain. We saw it with teams
(04:49):
about the eighties, the nineties, the Ravens, the you know,
the Seahawks. There have been teams where defenses Denver Denver
defensive have carried teams. So we acknowledg defense wins other sports.
We still don't accept the fact that defense is such
a big part of the game. You watch baseball, team
(05:11):
makes one error that could be the difference in the
ball game. A great outfielder tracks down a fly ball
that a badfielder would have let bounce like Aaron Judge
has a torpedo glove now, so he's not dropping anything.
But yeah, defense in the NBA again because scoring in
threes and you know, back in the day dunks, everyone
loves offense. Defense will play the biggest factor in the
(05:33):
Western Conference. Who could lock up some of these high
power teams And it's any edge you can get. But
you're talking about the elite athletes in every sport. So yeah,
if you could prevent anything from happening or them scoring
in any way, you're getting any advantage you can. Defense,
of course matters, I'm saying when you hear analysis, though,
(05:53):
it's shocking how the NFL is the only sport we
really talk a lot about defense, because you got a
whole conversation about the defense in the NBA, but it's
not really that exciting a conversation. But that will be
the factor if the Lakers are going to go anywhere.
If the Lakers are going to go anywhere, Luca can't
have the traditional you know you saw it last night
or there dreamond Green. If he didn't get that ball
(06:17):
last night, the Lakers could have turned it around Jimmy
Butler with some great defense. You saw defense win in
the fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Usually Luca has a much better performance playing the Warriors.
He usually shoots well against Golden State, and so he
had you know, he had a bad night shooting the ball.
He contributed in other ways. You saw those nice passes
towards the end of the game that got the Lakers
back into it. When they got cut it to what
was at one oh five, one hundred, I think all
of us were like, Okay, here we go. They're gonna
(06:44):
lock that defense down. Maybe Luca is gonna find his shot.
So now Steph scored thirty seven against the Warriors. Lucas
a deficit on the defensive side of the ball. He
needs to score thirty seven points for the Lakers, no doubt.
So again we're Cavino and your thoughts at Covino and Rich.
We talked about that first hour. Now next hour, we're
(07:05):
gonna play some games, like I said, for prizes. Right now,
we're gonna talk about Ashton Genty, Ashton Genty and wait,
is that the guy with the morning routine, Ashton Hall.
I joking that guy's bat some ice water on my face. Yeah,
he's all the rage. He has his nighttime routine. I
gotta rub bananas on my on my skin. I've been
(07:26):
rubbing bananas all over my body. What do you do
with the okay, no, no, no.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
But Ashton Hall is the viral video guy who's all
about his morning and nighttime routine. Ashton genty is a
junior for Boise State. This guy's a beast. Yeah, and
you know a bit more about him because your girlfriend's
family is from Boise they have Yeah. True, And that's
the first I heard of him. I'm like, yeah, you know,
they're always talking about it. It's huge there, right, season
(07:51):
ticket holders, and there's a lot of pride for the team.
So I've heard about this dude for a long time.
I'm running back five foot nine, two fifteen, so we're
talking a tiny brick. How But they compare this guy
to the the speed and agility of a McCaffrey, with
(08:13):
the muscle tone and strength of like a DK metcalf.
Like they're saying that he's like he's a special kid.
And can you just show the stats for last year
again five nine, two fifteen from Jacksonville playing for Boise State,
three hundred and seventy four carries over two thousand yards
two six hundred and one yards, twenty nine tuties and
(08:35):
he averages seven yards of carries so again over twenty
six hundred yards for Boise State. That's pretty wild. Now,
that's the stats, that's the backstory, that's what you did
at Boise State.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
He's by far going to be the first running back
selected in the draft.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
And here's the update, Raiders GM John Spytech says, and
I quote, my son has made it no secret that
if we don't pick Ashton Genty at number six, that
he's walking out of the family and he's gonna find
someone else. So that's from again Raiders GM John Spytech
(09:13):
on series ex NFL Radio. It reminds me of when
the Giants Joe Shane his son was like, Dad, you
gotta go with Jaden Daniels. And we saw that courtesy
of Hard Knocks. Those clips were released, and you gotta
think to yourself, is having your kid who really is invested? Like,
(09:35):
think about when you were a teenager, right, I'll be honest,
I feel like I was as locked in as ever
when I was a teenage boy watching sports because other
than girls, when I was a teenager, you'd have a job,
you'd have a responsibilities and a mortgage and a house
and all that. Sure you were in it. When I
was a kid, all I cared about was girls and sports.
So I feel like maybe I was even more into
(09:57):
sports as a teenager. I say I was the most
locked in it, probablybably twelve baseball cards. Yeah, that's it,
Like you knew everything. I knew everything that was going on,
no other responsibility, not the business side of being a
GM and making moves like that. But when I'm talking
about watching highlights, really locking in. Is it crazy when
(10:19):
gms and owners take into consideration what their kids and
family members say. I'm always a fan of fresh set
of eyes, fresh set of ears. I'm never the person
that's like I'm in charge when Mars say is final.
I love the idea of like in the past we've
been like with interns or young producers, Yo, if you
(10:39):
got something cool to contribute, let us know. I want
that new perspective. And I wonder if you think that's
it sounds ridiculous. I don't think it is when you
really break it down. I think it's ridiculous. When you
pay a guy to be the GM and he's getting
his tips from his ten year old kids, I think
it's ridiculous. I think Jos when Whatdy Johnson was not
(11:02):
wanting to do a Jerry Judy deal because his kid
didn't like the Madden rating. That's that's ridiculous. But if
you have a kid and think about it, if you're a
family that's so locked in, think about if your dad's
a vending machine rub machine repairman. My dad worked for
the Department of Environmental Protection. He was like an office guy.
If your dad was the GM or owner of a franchise,
(11:25):
you don't think you'd be a little more locked in.
You don't think your family eats breeds and what do
you think the dinner conversation is. It's probably football. Oh,
there's no question about it. And I get it. You're
making sense of something that sounds ridiculous. It's a matter
of you know, who has their ear and I'm sure
everyone in his circle, his wife, his girlfriend, we've heard
(11:47):
those stories too. Oh yeah, my wife was a big fan.
So you know, this is why we did it. And
also the kid, you know, he's a ten year old kid.
He's not that far off the mark because he knows
the hype. He knows what his little friends are talking
about all the time. You know, these kids are playing
video games all the time, they're watching it. They're glued
in they're locked in. I understand where you're coming from. Rich.
I don't think you just I don't think you want
(12:08):
to hear that that's a high profile position. You want
to think that there's some sort of analytics or real
thinking involved in the decisions they're making for the future
of the franchise. You don't want to know that it
comes over your kid's lunch discussion with his nose picking
buddies while he's eating a sandwich out of his lunchbox.
It's it's crazy to think there's tech people that are
million millionaires and millionaires creating apps and all that. You
(12:31):
don't think they check with their little nose picking kids
and their friends.
Speaker 5 (12:34):
Do.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
You got to you're keeping your ear an eye to
the playground, to what they no longer to the streets,
to the place. We'll keep your ear to the playground.
You got to know what kids are interested in if
you're trying to appeal to that next generation. So, if
you don't think tech people are constantly saying what does
the younger generations doing by tech people are definitely saying that,
because again that's the word that he's he's getting this
this tip and he's making this move hoping to make
(12:56):
this move based on his son's choice and his son pressure.
He's actually saying the pressure that his son is putting
on him is too much to ignore. So you remember
when you would beg your dad to take you to
Toys r US and he'd be like, yeah, get away
from me, and he'd slap you in a head eat it.
Remember when you would beg your dad for a dollar
(13:17):
because the ice cream man was down the street. He'd like, yeah,
I don't have any You have a dollar, dad, And
you'd beg this nose picking kids like, Dad, you gotta
get Ashton Genty, you got. He's putting so much pressure
on him, and he's actually listening. That's the difference too,
though our parents wouldn't listen to anything we said.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
I sure, as a Raiders fan, I sure hope spy
Tech's listening to his son, because this is Brady's boy
from Tampa Bay and he's known to be fond of
big offensive linemen. Okay, and so I think a lot
of the mock drafts out there have the Jets at
number seven, taking Membu of Missouri. Can you imagine Bi
(14:00):
Tech's kid going nuts if his dad selects armand Membu
offensive offensive tackle from Missouri instead of Ashton Genty.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
You know, I mean we've heard, we've heard ridiculous stories
doing our look at the and sometimes it pans out.
Look what happened with the Dodgers and Piazza, right, I
mean that was a favor man, so it could work out.
Either trust your kid or not, That's really the question.
I My mind changed on this, and this is by
no means disrespect, but when we worked with Steve Phillips
(14:33):
years ago at Serious XM, man, what a head of
hair on that guy, great head of hair. Inspiring. In fact,
I remember him and I would always chat it up
in the kitchen about baseball and sports in general, and
I realized, this guy ran my team, the Mets for years.
He's just a guy. He's just another man. He's just
another human being that might have a little more insight
(14:55):
here there. And it's great quality and great hair. But
he had like a Leslie Nielsen, like impeccable cloth. And
from that moment on, I'm like, you know, what, did
they really know much more than we do? Every year?
There swings and misses in every draft. You to what's
the whole joke? You know why? Are they getting paid
to do this job? What's the whole joke? Though? Look
at the draft board. Every year there's misses, right, Like
(15:16):
someone missed on Aaron Rodgers. You know the forty nine
ers picked Alex Smith. People miss Lamar Jackson and people
that like that were taken after who like Josh Rosen, Like,
there's there's misses every year. So a teenage kid who's like, dad,
I really liked this. There's a silly reasons that pan out, didn't.
Jeanie Buss also admit recently that she really pulled that
(15:39):
trigger on the look of trade because of how fond
Kobe was of Luca. I mean, it's an easy choice,
I get it, but that also played into her decision,
like to honor Kobe. He was a big fan of Luca.
There's always like some weird decision. It's just a matter
of who has that influence on that powerful person. I'm sure,
you know, we give a lot of credit to move
(16:00):
that managers and gms make. I'm sure their wives are
also in their ear all the time. I mean, because
that's who you're bouncing things off of. You just said,
Genie Buss, what if j Moore, who used to work
here at the network. What if j Moore is like, yeah, Babe, yes, Luca, Yes,
I think I think you'd be silly to downplay his influence.
You don't think your wife or my wife has influence
on my decisions, That's what I'm saying. Like, so it's
(16:21):
just things we don't want to factor in, and you
don't want to necessarily believe that a ten year old
is pulling the string here. But that's really the story
because guess what his dad is the GM of the Raiders.
Your dad isn't. Yeah, And it all goes back to
again Shane on the Giants, Joe Shane, where you saw
his kid laying on the couch doing what every kid does.
(16:43):
Remember when you would land the couch and throw the
football up and the ball up and catch it and
you're just dohorsing around. Dude, I couldn't get my dad
to play video games with me. Imagine getting your dad
to draft genty. Just dad, Dad play play Mario Brothers.
You remember how hard it was to get your parents
to do stuff like that with you when you were
a kid.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
Dude, Imagine all the trades and movement and how exciting
the NFL draft would be if all the general managers'
kids made the team selection in each slot.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Oh, that'd be hilarious, dude, imagine if kids were in
charge of everything. You know, there's something to be said, rich. Honestly, Oh,
we have four day work weeks. I gotta say that's true. Sure,
if I was in charge of everything, we'd have four
day work weeks. I thought you would have better snacks
in the vending machine here if kids were in charge. Oh,
without a doubt, Without a doubt. I think the coolest
point you made was how locked in a kid really
(17:35):
is between like ten and thirteen, because after thirteen you
turn into a little pervert, right, so now you're distracted,
But from ten to thirteen you're so locked in on
video games sports, and most of the video games you're
playing are sports related, So you're so locked in, probably
(17:55):
more locked in than any adult because adults have more
distractions and responsibilities that take them away from their focus
of making those right moves. So you know, honestly, I
was gonna come here and dump on this. That really
swayed my thinking out on where we are good. I
did because I thought about that mindset and I said,
you know, what we do this for a living. I
know that sounds crazy. We don't have the knowledge in
(18:18):
IQ of a colin. That's not our vibe. We're more
of a fun light show. But we're locked into sports
and what's going on in the world of movies, TV,
pop culture. We're locked in because it's our job. But
if you would ask me, is there any other time
in your life when you may have been even more
locked in? And I'm thinking twelve thirteen year old macause
your whole life or vibe. If you asked me any
place you could have been like Rich Brett Saberhagen, I
(18:40):
probably knew is era. If you ask me, hey, Rich,
how many home runs as Andre Dawson have right now nineteen?
I would I would have known every stat, mid season,
after season, everything because you are locked in. So when
management actually hears and listens to their kids, I don't
think it's as crazy as you think. Crazy part is
(19:01):
him making this a public announcement and a story out
of it. I think that's the crazy part. I think
it's happened forever and all the time. But the fact
that it's a story is what's surprising here, no doubt.
And the other interesting question too, Yeah, if kids were
in charge the world we live in and the other
moves that would be made. It's hilarious think about that.
(19:23):
And coming up, we're going to talk about forgiveness. Who
are those athletes that either said or did something a
blunder on or off the field where you really can't
get over it for some reason you don't respect or
like that athlete anymore? Can you forgive them? A story
Kavino has, we'll get to forgiveness. We'll talk a little
more NFL, some NBA, We got music with the herdline news.
(19:45):
That's all coming up right here, Covin and rich In
for Colin on the Hurt.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
One More Heard. The Herd streams twenty four hours a day,
seven days a week within the iHeartRadio app. Search Herd
to listen live or on demand whenever you like. All right,
good day, I said, good day. Gonna make it a
good day. Great day with Covino and rich You know
the ceeing our show in for Colin on the Herd,
(20:09):
giving away prizes next hour and again you're invited to
our party live broadcast party June twentieth through to twenty
second in Vegas. So just book your flights details to come,
but we're gonna be out there celebrating and we're happy
to be here on the Herd.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
I'm Steve Covino, that is Rich. We got Dan eg
producing on the phones eight seven seven for the Herd.
That's eight seven seven four eight four thirty four thirty seven.
We got Big sixy Ryan, we got Ryan Music. We
have a spot on the videos at Covino and Rich
before we get to the herdline news. Yeah, and forgiveness
and the NBA in the NFL. I got three Rando
(20:47):
questions for you. You cool with that, I guess, And
they're all over the place because add it is at
its finest with me. Can I say one last thing though? Sure?
When it comes to Spytech and his son making the
decis decisions for the Raiders, yes, ten year old nose
pick and son. I was having an epiphany. It was
(21:08):
in the hallway thinking and I was like, you know what,
it sounds ridiculous, but it's not that ridiculous because we
all do that sort of thing on a lower and
lesser level. Like how many people listening bought a car
because their kid liked it, or got an apartment or
bought a house because their kid was like, yeah, this
is the one. It's great. I really like it. And
(21:29):
at the end of the day, it helped you make
the decision, but you had the final decision. So with Spytech, yeah,
his kid is pointing him in a direction. With Ashton Genty,
but he's still making the final decision. So it sounds silly,
but it's not that it doesn't sound that silly because
when my wife and I were looking for a house,
this is a true story, our kids were very little
(21:53):
and when we walked in the house, we looked at
the kids to be like, y'all like yeah, and they're like, yeah,
we love it, Michael, they love it. If you haven't
made the decision, if your kid's eyes light up, that's
that's the story right there. That's your answer. It's the
same thing on a much bigger level with the Raiders.
(22:14):
But he's a superstar player. You're probably gonna get superstar
results again. Five nine, two fifteen Ashton Genty of Boise State.
Now that was my thought. You have rando question three
randoes and then we're gonna talk forgiveness. All right. The
Yankees are currently what four and two? Yeah, Mets are
currently what three and three. So right now, you have
(22:35):
a one game lead over me, meaning I'm a Mets fan,
Covino's a Yankees fan. In the beginning of the season,
we made a bet thousand dollars who's ever team had
a better record? Do you want to up the ante
at all? Oh, that's a good one, meaning I don't
want to. I'm not gonna say like another couple of thousand.
How about this bet before Garrett Cole went down, I'm
(22:58):
giving you a use heel. You have a one game
lead right now, five games into the season, six games in,
I'm still confident in the Yankees. So if I were
to say, yeah, thousand dollars bet and then an additional
hundred for each game that they're better. So if the
Mets are, If the Mets are five games better and
they win, there that's fifteen. If you're looking for the
radio effect of like, let's go, I'm looking for you
(23:20):
back down saying the Yankees are so great, I'm not
backing down. But what I do want is like, let
me think about it for a minute, Like you're not
going to get to yeah, all right? All the music
during the break? How much was Comino talking this fact?
About how great the Yankees are and some Sodo made
a mistake in the Mets stink. That's sure.
Speaker 5 (23:37):
There was yes, some very heated discussions about the superiority
of the Yankees over the mass.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
Take the least sip of your cob broke ahead, let's
hear it, less sip your cobrew one hundred bucks for
each additional game. I gotta think about it.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
You're not going to get that handshake right now about
this when the Dodgers repeat, you both give me a thousand?
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Do you know what?
Speaker 3 (23:57):
That's easy money for you. But the goal is the
Dodgers win one hundred and twenty games, and, much like
every other team in every other major sport, the best record.
This is a fun fact music. I'm sure Colin has
pointed this out. The Bruins, the Patriots, the Mariners, and
who'd I miss? Oh the Warriors. Warriors, Yeah, yeah, all
(24:18):
four best records. Those teams all went on to lose
in the playoffs. So bost records doesn't mean best team.
Now I just have the best record. I'm hoping the
Dodgers go one hundred and twenty and forty two and
then losing the NLDS anyway. That's question one. So can
you no backs down? No, no, no, no, but hold on,
let me get this right before we move on and
have to drag it out. You said, let's up the ante.
(24:40):
Do you want to make it two thousand dollars a
hand or just another one hundred dollars for every game
thousand dollars bet and then one hundred dollars for each
game in the best. So if the Yankees have an
eight game better record than the Mets, right, that's eighteen hundred. Okay,
So all right, let me think about it. Okay. Question
number two. If you coach kids sports like I do,
I'm coaching my daughter's eight you softball and my son's
(25:02):
pony ball t ball? Are you really coaching?
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Now?
Speaker 3 (25:04):
I heard your daughter's pulling all the strings here she
made the lineup. No, here's the question. Is this because
remember when you were a kid playing sports? Because we
all did. Your daughter said the draft, little Becky McMillan.
So when you were a kid, was there any better
time than playing sports?
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Right?
Speaker 3 (25:21):
Not? Not? Nothing else compares to Pop Warner, football, pal basketball,
little league, pony ball? Is it fair as a coach
for me to bat kids? Later? In the lineup that
show up late because it's on their parents. But if
I'm saying, all right, kids show up a half hour
an hour before the game for warm ups. If you
know a little Johnny's good, but he's showing up right
(25:43):
before the game and his dad's all klutsy, like all
s over he's here, and I'm like, yeah, I put
him at the bottom of the lineup. Do you make
your lineup based on the kids that are there, or
if the kids parents are flaky, like the kid misses
practices but they're good. I wouldn't take out the kid
just because his parents suck. I just take them out.
(26:04):
But I'm saying, if I'm making the lineup and it's
fifteen minutes before game time, and you know, little Becky
Johnson's not there because her mom's like flustered, and I'm
making the lineup, she might if she's one of our
best players. Do I say, here, ten minutes before the game,
you're batting last. I'd make the adjustment. Well, at this
stage of the game, your your goal isn't necessarily to
win because there's so little so just to teach lessons,
(26:27):
maybe I don't know, teach a lesson and yeah, I
would say that you're teaching fundamentals, you're teaching lessons. That's
really the stage you're at right now, So do it
while you can, because next year, I think you're playing
to win. Yeah, and the last question, we lost Val
Kilmer this week. If you would recommend Let's Go Around
the Room music, Big Sexy, Ryan, Danny J. Spotty even
(26:49):
chime in if you want, If you would recommend one
Val Kilmer movie for everyone to watch this weekend to
honor the late great actor sixty five fast away, what's
your go to Val Kilmer movie music?
Speaker 5 (27:03):
Man, I'm torn between two, but I'm gonna do you.
The first one that came to mind was Tombstone, but
he is also very very close. I'll go with Tombstone
if I gotta choose one.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
It's wild. Everybody has a favorite. That's what we've learned
and noticed as we honor him this week. Everyone has
a different go to. When you say Tombstone, I think
of pizza and the movie. So yeah, yeah, it sounds
like a good plan for the weekend because I haven't
had enough pizza this week. No, Tombstone is the one
I would like to see because it's been a minute,
(27:36):
and it's the most classic, even though there's so many
great options, Like I've seen Doors. I always say he's
more Jim Morrison than Jim Morrison in that movie. But
I've seen it so many times. Tombstone will be my
go to this weekend, Danny g Big Sexy Ryan, what
you guys got.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
I'll go first chair. Since Tombstone was already taken. How
about one from the late eighties? Burn this VHS tape out?
It was in our collection, will oh. I think of
Val Kilmer as an action star in that movie.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
Sexy Rhyme two actually Top Secret and real Genius. Good one. There,
these are good ones. I'm gonna go way recent just
because the guy to the to the right of me
that think says Yankees are going to win one hundred
games this year, Steve Cavino has never seen Top Gun Maverick,
(28:27):
And that's true. Yes, and I'm yeah to it.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
And on our show yesterday afternoon into the evening, Rich
you were pestering him to do that, which is a mistake.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
Well, yeah, can you the topic that if you tell
him to do something, he won't do it. I don't
know if it's like a trait that I inherited from
my dad, or like a Mexican thing my mom's Mexican,
because they often say that racist. The more you pressure
Canelo Alvarez to do something, not comparing myself to the
great Canelo, but I am. The more you pressure him
to fight like a David Benavidez, the more he's like.
Speaker 6 (28:58):
Now, I won't, I won't do it. You tell me
to do it, I won't do it. I don't need
to do anything. I'm Canello. The more people pressure me
to do things, the less I'm inclined to watch. I
have to feel like it's my own choice. And the
more he pushes this movie on me even more, I'm
like no, because I don't say, here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
It's not. I'm gonna I'm gonna watch Tombstone and the
White Lotus finale. It's not. It's not a big role
for Val Kilmer, but I was. I was telling him
that I wasn't even a big Top Gun fan as
a kid. I want to put Top Gun as one
of my favorite eighties movies, and I watched the original recently.
I used to. I watched it when I was a kid.
I used to play the video game for Nintendo Top Gun.
(29:38):
I watched it recently. I was never that neat for
speed Kid. I did not like the original. I hated
it in fact, so like for me, I want to
watch the new one.
Speaker 4 (29:48):
The sequels an actually is actually a better agreed, wouldn't
you agree?
Speaker 1 (29:52):
Great?
Speaker 3 (29:53):
I told him, and I go, dude, we're talking the
same language. Back to the future, Goonies, Indiana Jones, Karate Kid.
We all love the same things. Top gunn was not
in my top list, but the second one. You got
a nice big TV, the sono surround sound. It's well,
if there was an Hony weekend and honor, it's this weekend,
all right. Well, with that said, it is time for
the herd Line News. Let's go no no news. This
(30:18):
is the herd Line News. All right, let's check in
on some NFL news. Jamis Winston now a member of
the New York Giants after playing one season with the
Cleveland Browns. Well, apparently it was an impactful season for
Jamis because he's posted a thank you to Cleveland on
his Instagram. He said, I'm so happy and grateful for
(30:38):
everything we experienced together this past year. Now, that was
just a small part of what was a much longer
caption for the post, and look, I hate to be
this guy and do this because his intentions are clearly
in the right place. Just trying to show some gratitude
to the city of Cleveland and to the organization. Feels
(30:58):
like we've gone a little far with these thank you
posts and tribute videos, Lifer. It's not like Jeter leaving
the Yankees or Poppy leaving the Red Sox. It's not
like Tom Brady. It's not Tom Brady's farewell toy, or
it's like the pressure to do it. It's like when
that random person leaves the office and they have to
send the mass email to everybody. It's like, I rarely
knew the guy. It's all good. Ohohn's leaving accounting. I
(31:21):
have Lord here at ihard for twelve years. Who's the
hat shod.
Speaker 6 (31:24):
I just wanted to say it was a great run,
and you know, God's beat everybody.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
It's like he beat it, dude, I barely knew you.
And you know, I really feel like it's just become
the thing to do as well. Absolutely, and like we
see this a lot in the NBA, with like the
tribute videos. You know, Luca's going to make his return
to the Mavericks uh in the next few games, and
I'm sure they'll give him a video, And like, I
get it. Obviously, Luca is a great player and they
(31:49):
went to the NBA Finals and everything, but like, you
traded him and he's gonna have a much longer career.
I mean, we hope obviously, Yeah, but he.
Speaker 5 (31:58):
Should have a much longer career else where outside of
the Mavericks.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
So it's just I find these things to be kind
of weird.
Speaker 5 (32:04):
Like, like you guys said, look, if it's if it's
like if someone like Dirk.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
Yeah, if Dirk had played.
Speaker 5 (32:12):
And then he's like, hey, guys, I want to go
take like a one year deal to go play with
the Knicks or something, and then Dirk comes back. You're
giving Dirk a video, You're getting you're giving him a
sendoff to some of these others.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
Like the Mets gave someone a video recently. I'm a
big Mess fan, and it was it was honestly, like
an irrelevant player. Yeah, you know you know where I
was getting this vibe too, like farewell seasons and wait,
is that becoming a thing where everybody gets that, Like
you know, you have to earn that sort of thing.
I was getting that vibe that everyone was just getting
some sort of farewell toward every game for a while.
Speaker 5 (32:45):
Yeah, it's definitely we've gone a little too far, but hey,
look jamis a gracious guy.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
I think the Mets gave Michael Conforto like a video,
like someone that was like, you know, a key player
for a couple of years. It's like everyone gets a video.
Speaker 5 (32:58):
I don't know this a little lot. All right, we'll
stick with the NFL here. We continue to wait on
Aaron Rodgers and if he's going to sign with the
Pittsburgh Steelers inevitable or what it seems to feel that way.
But look, the Steelers they're not waiting around. They're gonna
start making some moves while they wait on Rodgers' decisions.
Today we have multiple reports Steelers hosting Old Miss quarterback
(33:22):
Jackson Dart for an official pre draft visit.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
That also doesn't make terribly bad sense because it's alling
Aaron Rodgers would play more than a year or so anyway,
so totally, and nobody's buying Mason Rudolph.
Speaker 5 (33:35):
Yeah, you can keep trying to sell us Mason Rudoff
for nobody buy that but I mean, like, what in
Pittsburgh love a situation?
Speaker 3 (33:40):
Will you have Aaron Rodgers for a year or so
with some young stud waiting in the wings. That's that
seems to be the template right absolutely. By the ways
Colin sold on Aaron Rodgers and Pittsburgh, He's sold on
it's either retirement or that.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
And he doesn't really buy that even if the Steelers
signed an Aaron Rodgers that it's going to make much
of a difference. Colin did his some of his pre
draft over unders, and I think right now they have
the Steelers at eight and a half win total, and
he looks at it and goes, if they sign Rogers,
(34:14):
maybe they're like a nine win team. If they don't
sign Rogers, they're like a seven.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Or and eight wins where Aaron Rodgers needs to start
working on his goodbye letter. Real what a guy like
him you want to play to win. I don't think
you're winning anything with the Steelers. I don't think he's
the difference. Maybe maybe I don't know. Crazier things have happened,
But how do you feel about theatrics of the you know,
a little workout with DK Metcalf. To me, it's like,
(34:40):
come on, pull the trigger.
Speaker 5 (34:41):
In exactly exactly, like like we're supposed to believe that
you've had all this time to look at what the
Steelers are and you're like, oh no, I went and
through some passes with DK. Now I'm in Like you've
seen DK play, you know what he can do. It's
all good here, all right. We'll wrap up with this
odd and unfortunate sort of injury in the NBA last night,
(35:01):
t Wolves taking on the nets. They're the superstar for
Minnesota and Edwards shooting like a fallaway three in the
corner and he actually ended up stepping on nets coach
Jody for Jordi excuse me, Jordi Fernandez's foot. So yeah,
he sort of rolled his ankle, needed help off the court. Now,
he did return to action, ended up scoring twenty eight.
Timber Wolves got the win, so thankfully, everything seems to
(35:23):
be fine. Fernandez apologized for not moving out of the
way and sort of causing sort of the injury there.
Speaker 3 (35:29):
But I've always wondered about that.
Speaker 5 (35:30):
You know, basketball coaches at times they go way out
onto the court, and obviously we know in all levels
of football you have to get back coach for the
guy who needs to pull them back off the sideway.
Speaker 3 (35:39):
Who had to get it? Was it was it McVay.
Speaker 5 (35:41):
Someone had to get mcmay's for sure got one because
he's way out there. But yeah, obviously everything's all good.
But I always find that kind of interesting that these
coaches sometimes get a little aggressive and you're like, yeah,
I hope this doesn't create any issues.
Speaker 3 (35:54):
No, No, it's got to stop there, because then at
least like mister Fuji with his cane like dipping into
the range and people the mouth of the South out
of the way and don't wear extra long cockroach killer
boots just to trip up the other players, Like, yeah,
sounds like an illegal move. Well, thank you, Ryan, that's
your herd Line news.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
herd Line News.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
All right, So we have games to play next hour,
so stick around for that. Can we're gonna play. We're
gonna play Operation What are on the knee? Like the
thousand dollars feet? Did anyone actually play Operation?
Speaker 1 (36:32):
No?
Speaker 3 (36:32):
Did anyone play mouse Trap? No? You just set it up.
I never had no one ever played it. No, we're
gonna play a game called quote me your job, Fox,
Sports Radio Nation. The Herd is to guess who said it?
Multiple choice for some prizes here on the show. We
do that next hour. But coming up forgiveness, is it
(36:52):
just like saying sorry forgiveness? People and players you'll never
forgive for whatever reason. I have a story. If it's
a dumbest reach, it involves Will Smith, the actor, not
the baseball player. All right, so it involves him and
we'll talk about it next to CNR in for Colin
on the Herd.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
at noon eastern non am Pacific.
Speaker 3 (37:15):

four Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and of course the

about the stories behind the stories in the world of
(37:37):
sports and pop culture, stories that well, other shows don't
seem to have the time to discuss. And the fact
that we've been friends for the last twenty years and
still work together. I mean that says something right, So
check us out. We like to get you involved too,

maybe the most interactive show on planetar. Be sure to
(37:58):

and the iHeartRadio app from five to seven pm Eastern
two to four Pacific, And if you miss any of

so we do over Promised on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page.
And since I got your attention, remember having a party
June twentieth through to twenty second in Vegas Live broadcast.
(39:03):
A lot of our friends are gonna be there. Listeners,
come meet some people June twentieth through the twenty second. Again,
I'm Steve Cavino. We got Danny g on the phones,
and this is where we chop it up and get
you involved. So write it down eight seven seven four
eight four thirty four thirty seven eighty seven seven for
the Herd or at Covino and Rich, because the question
(39:26):
is this, who is somebody you're never gonna forgive? It
could be in entertainment, it could be in life, it
could be in sports. Because if a bonehead play they made,
or a bonehead decision they made, the story goes like this. Rich,
I don't know if you heard about this or if
you realized, but Will Smith came out with a new
(39:49):
record based on a true story, and I'm not here
to promote it, and I'm not here to make fun
of it either. I'm really not. But it's got that
old school hit pop Will Smith sort of vibe to it.
It's exactly what you'd expect, right, based on a true story.
And the first track is called Barbershop, and it's based
(40:12):
about based on people talking about Will Smith in the barbershop.
There's a video to go along with it. Jazzy Jeff's
on the track. I'll tell you what. I watched the
video of the song. It's entertaining. Yeah, No, it's a
bunch of it's Will Smith dresses a bunch of characters Allah,
Eddie Murphy and coming to America where he's everyone in
the barbershop. Yeah, And I liked, I liked, liked, I liked.
(40:36):
Parents just don't understand Will Smith. I like that Will
And that's kind of what you're getting here. Something do
you like summertime? Will Smith? Drums? Please? But then again,
you're a guy that didn't love Fresh Prince of bel Air,
So let me start off. I didn't, so I'm trying
to be positive. I liked his early stuff Independent sec One.
Speaker 4 (40:56):
I kind of liked it, but I didn't love it.
Now his classic al he's the DJ, I'm the rapper.
If you've never listened to that album, go back. It's
where there's a song called brand New Funk that still hits. Dude,
Like I said, I want to start with props. Okay,
he's the first ever to win I'm Karta. I got
lots of props to get props, so bring out the
(41:17):
golf gulp he put He helped put rap on the
map as far as mainstream. Right, he's the first to
ever win a Rap Grammy if I'm not mistaken. And
for fifty six he looks fantastic, So there's my positive spin.
Speaker 3 (41:31):
And he portrayed the late great Muhammad Ali and you
know what on social media for a guy that's that age,
he's relevant working with all these young influencers. Will Smith
is a great follow on like TikTok and Instagram. So
there's the props. There's the props. However, in the song Barbershop,
it's sort of based on what people say about him,
(41:54):
and the premise of the song is I'm never going
to forgive him for that as he did for that
she did. That's the hook and that's the chorus of
the song, and he's singing to you because you're one
of those people. They never gonna forgive him for that
s he did, meaning what he did to Chris Rock.
I've never been a big Will Smith fan. I never
(42:15):
hated him either, but I've always been a Chris Rock fan,
and I sort of hated what he did to Chris Rock.
I don't know anybody that thought that was appropriate flot
that was the weakest and in a really weak moment.
And until Chris Rock forgives him, I'm not forgiving Will Smith.
(42:36):
I hate what he did to him and how he
humiliated him. So based on me, never forgiven Will Smith
until Chris Rock does. Who else are we not forgiven?
I have? I have a few. I have the number
one answer on the board, really and there's no way
this better answer. People, never forgiving this guy, Sports, entertainment,
you name it. Who will you not forgive? More? Next?
(42:57):
C and R in for Colin
