Speaker 1 (00:37):
You know when I get big night's sleep, I come
in here firing. The only good thing about two Monday
night football games, because I prefer one, is if one stinks,
which one did last night, you get another one. Because
it had just been Buffalo last night, I'd been like, okay,
I watched it half and I'm out.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Wait wait, So you didn't like the two games.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
I would prefer one great game. I would prefer Philadelphia Atlanta.
That's my game. Well, next week we have two games
as well, and I don't like the NFL's got me.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Don't you love Sunday when there's seven games going on?
Speaker 1 (01:12):
I don't even love Thursday if you're Thursday's one game.
But that's what that's Usually a great quarterback plays Thursday
Aaron Rodgers, and then a great quarterback play Two great
quarterbacks played on Monday, Burrow and Josh, So three great
quarterbacks didn't play Sunday. But I understand the NFL wants
their paycheck from Amazon. I would too. I totally get it.
(01:33):
I'm not anti Thursday games, and this year the games
have been better. So but I you know, you take
If you take Aaron Rodgers, Joe Burrow, and Josh Allen
out of a Sunday, my Sunday's not better.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
The Sunday was amazing. What are you talking?
Speaker 1 (01:45):
It was amazing, but a lot of the stories were
bone Nicks winning. I like it, but that's not Josh Allen.
Josh Allen jumps through the television.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
So this Thursday Dak versus Daniel Jones? Is that right?
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Well, I'm saying is you're taking a good quarter back
in a good story, the Cowboys and Dak out of Sunday.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
I forgot there's two games next Monday lost.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
I think they're stinkers. What are the games now?
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Oh gosh, you're.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
Right, Tennessee Miami. That could be Will Levis versus Tim Boyle.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
You could cancel that game and I hurt my feeling.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
And then Seattle Detroit, which is a really good game.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
You're taking off.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
That's a really good game Sunday.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yeah, I mean, the world changes, I get it, but
I do like I mean, just think this week you
took Josh Allen Burrow and Aaron Rodgers out of Sunday. Now.
I do like some standalone games, but two Mondays. What
if we had two Thursdays? Can you just give me
a game? That's why I watched the Fox game, the
Sunday game the month. I like big standalone games where
(02:40):
I can take my notepad and write notes and be
a dork. That's what I like to do. All right,
gotta I gotta get to my hert hierarchy listen, very controversial.
These are not standings. Okay, that's the other place I
don't do standings. These are the best ten games, best
ten teams in the league. And some are ugly, some
are in artest, but I tend to find a stat
(03:02):
that means something, even if you had a couple of losses.
And here we go.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Heard hierarchy time now, no go the top ten NFL
teams according to College number ten.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Okay, listen, it worries me that it's the fifth loss
when leading by ten plus points in the fourth under
Kyle Shanahan. But I said this, Finally, I look at
Brock Purty and see a franchise quarterback. No Kittle, no Debot,
no McCaffrey. Offensive protection at the line was okay, and
he he was delan and so to me, it's like, yeah,
(03:37):
I know, they keep losing, but the kid threw for
three hundred and thirty three yards without his weapons. He
had his number three receiver. Even Brandon Aiyuk's not working,
and they're gonna get some of these guys back. But
I'm sorry, I'm gonna trust Kyle Shanahan and Brock Purty
at number ten over Dennis Allen and Derek Carr Niners
at ten, number nine, the New York Jets. Here's the stat.
(03:58):
Here's the stat that I come to. Aaron Rodgers on
third down this year has one hundred and eighteen passer rating.
They have the best third down offense fifty seven percent
in the league. I have been a huge believer in
this stat forever. If you're doing things on third down.
Defense rests builds confidence. It usually means you have a
(04:20):
smart quarterback, you're good pre snap, you're getting better than
average protection. The Jets third down stat is a real thing,
and they lead the league in it, and I do
think they have a chance to grow because Garrett Wilson
and Aaron are going to get better over time. They
found that rookie running back out of Wisconsin. He's gonna
get better over time. So that stat alone puts them
at nine for me. Number eight. The Ravens. Listen, here's
(04:43):
another stat. This is a flawed team. They lead the
NFL in yards per play. Go ask the guys in
Vegas who make a living gambling. That is a huge
stat in the league. This forget the score in the
Dallas game. That was an arse kicking. That game wasn't
even competitive. They roll Dallas and Lamar Jackson just look
(05:04):
at his numbers this year, three hundred and eighteen yards
a game. It's why I took him Sunday. And while
I'll always believe in this team, I believe in Lamar Jackson.
He's not perfect. We have one quarterback in the league
that's perfect. Everybody else has a hole. Lamar's my guy.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Number seven.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
None of you like Philadelphia. I do now Jalen Hurts
without Shane Steikin. Too many turnovers. They got one plus
turnover eighteen to the last twenty two games. And I
don't love Sirianni, but good god, they outgained the Saints
four hundred and sixty yards to two nineteen. And we
love the Saints. There are just dudes everywhere. I love
the owner, I love the GM. I'm not a huge
fan of the coach, but I like their players. Now
(05:42):
their AJ Brown comes back, that's a difference maker here.
So now they're receiving cars banged up. But I think
winning in New Orleans the way they did, the resiliency,
the toughness just screams Philadelphia. And I'm a Hurtz guy.
He's flawed. I don't think he sees the field that
has height that great. But I'm a Jalen Hurts guy.
I got the Eagles at seven, number six. The Detroit Lions,
they finally figured out, oh, we have the best offensive
(06:04):
line in football and two above average running backs. Maybe
we should run the ball more. And they just punched Arizona.
Pretty scrappy team. In the face Jamir Gibbs and David Montgomery.
That's the best running back tandem in the league, the
best offensive line in the league. Just run the ball.
Just run the ball. Sam Laporta's injury worries me. This
(06:25):
is a very solid franchise. Do I trust them situationally
like I would trust Kansas City in the big spot. No, No, No,
wouldn't at all. But I think they're a really good team.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Number five.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Okay, the Seahawks with the same players have the highest
gridded defense. Now, they haven't played anybody, but I'm gonna
tell you something right now. When I watch Seattle, you
know what I see a little like Kansas City. I
see a fast defense with the elite guys at linebacker
in the back end. Now, again, they haven't played much
and we can bang on Gino. I'm as critical of
Gino Smith as everybody. Dude is a completion machine. He
(06:59):
completed seventy five or sent of his throws. He's not
going to give you anything off script often, but he
is a I mean, they got a number one receiver,
they got an edge rush, they've got a you know,
it's like Kirk Consins. They move the chains I think
they've got weapons. I think their back end is outstanding.
This new coach, Mike McDonald. Baltimore's defense isn't the same.
(07:19):
Why the coach. They are really really well coached on
that defensive side, with playmakers on offense. I think Seattle's
a bit underrated right now. I have him at five.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
Number four.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Is Matt Lafleur the second best coach in the league
after Andy Reid. What he is doing with Malik Willis
is insane. I feel I picked them to beat Detroit
in their division. I just think this story with Malik
Willis is fascinating. They also lead the NFL with seven picks.
We have been saying this for a decade. The only
time Green Bay's defense has ever been great Aaron Rodgers
won a Super Bowl. I always feel like they underachieved defensively.
(07:53):
But they bring the head coach from Boston College over.
They're young, they're fast, They're making plays. This has not
been a play making defense for a long time. And
what Lafleur is doing without Jordan Love is notable. This
guy is he didn't promote himself. It's little market green Bay,
but I still think they're probably they're young, in a
(08:14):
lot of places, even at quarterback, but I like Green
Bay a lot. I have him at four, number three.
I keep waiting for the bubble to burst. And Minnesota's good.
Here's the other thing. They lead the NFL with sixteen sacks,
So forget the offense. Every week, it's a different player defensively,
and they're not even healthy. I keep saying Kevin O'Connell
has coached the reckless out of Sam Darnald. I have
(08:34):
three different general managers who have always told me you
can win a lot of games with Sam Darnold. There's
a lot of people in this league. Bill Belichick talked
about it yesterday. Outside of the Jets, everybody likes Darnald,
and it's the offensive coachesn't like Sam Darnald. Back to
back home wins. They have hammered the Niners and hammered
the Texans. And by the way, I know Brian Floor
(08:54):
has hurt some feelings in Miami. Is he the best
defensive coordinator in the league. I mean Brod Purty in CJ.
Strouder good quarterbacks, they both said after they lost to Minnesota. Yeah,
I saw stuff I've never seen in my life. It's
like they saw UFOs. So I think Brian Flores, I
know he hurt feelings in Miami. You got to give
that guy head coaching job. You got to consider him.
That dude can coach number two. I know, I know,
(09:17):
I know, Buffalo Kansas City's gonna break their heart in
mid January. But Joe Brady is different. And here's the
utter thing. They're not as Josh Allen centric. They're not.
They've got a running game. They I mean, they're even
Josh Allen said it, nobody's keeping track of stats. I
like him. Are they gonna beat Kansas City in mid January?
Probably not, But I do think this is the best
(09:39):
version I have seen of them. I get a little
older Josh. They're not as Josh reliant, but you still
get the details of Sean McDermott.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
Number one.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
The thing that really is scary about Kansas City so
they become New England now, is that they have a
star quarterback and the best coach. But they're winning with defense.
They're so confident situationtionally. I don't think people are given
this defense credit because outside of Chris Jones, you know,
they don't have a lot of big stars. Their defense
is the fastest in the league, and Rashi Rice has
(10:11):
become a number one ride receiver. I'm not saying he's
Ceedee Lamb yet. I'm not saying he's Jamar Chase yet,
but he's somewhere in that galaxy. Now here's the thing.
They're the only team to start three to zero and
they've been out gained total yards. To me, is something
it's not. I think yards per plays bigger. I think
third down efficiency is better. I don't care. I mean
(10:33):
some teams, you know, the one of the reasons is
they get turnovers so they don't have to play the
long field game very often. So sometimes the outgained thing
is just our defense is good. I mean New England
got out gained a few times in their career. There
you go. It's my top ten again. I don't have
the Saints in it. I thought they came back to Earth.
It's not a knock on them. But if you're giving
me Aaron Rodgers, if you're giving me San Francisco Shanahan,
(10:57):
Brock Purdy, or you're giving me Derek Carran, Dennis Allen,
I'm i gotta make choices here.
Speaker 5 (11:02):
J Matt quickly since I joined the show, the Jets
have never made the I'm so thrilled right now, dude,
this is exciting.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
It's third down they are really this is Aaron Rodgers
deserves all the credit for this, because we don't think
he has a great OC or a great O line.
Aaron Rodgers on third down pre snap, right after post snap.
They don't have personnel that should tell you they're the
best third down offense in the league. They have Aaron.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
I also like that they lost to the Niners by
a million, and they're ahead of.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Them so well. The Niners are now much more injury plagued.
They are on the side of the ball that matters
more in the NFL. Nick Right is joining us now.
I even said nice things. I know, I know, I like.
I said this to start my show. You have to
even if you get dumped in your life, you have
to be willing to fall in love again. I've been
burned so many times by the Bills. I won't go
(11:53):
near the kitchen, but I'm gonna fall in love with him.
They're gonna lose in mid January. Great, they look great.
Speaker 6 (11:59):
They look great, and I thought, you know, I was
higher on the Bills than most people going into the year.
I thought it was insulting to them that the Jets
were the favorites to win the division. There were a
lot of there are a lot of similarities between this
year's Bills team and the Chiefs team two years ago
the summer when the Chiefs traded Tyreek Hill and everyone's like, Oh,
(12:23):
what are they gonna look like offensively?
Speaker 1 (12:25):
Is this a bit of.
Speaker 6 (12:26):
A retool not a rebuild? And it's like, Oh, I
don't know. They still have Patrick Mahomes, the Bills still
have Josh Allen. They are leaning into the run game.
The Bills are really really good and they deserve credit that.
I thought your hierarchy was excellent with I'm not as
high on the Eagles as you. I would have probably
had the Jets on the outside looking in.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
But that's not the problem.
Speaker 6 (12:48):
The problem is Colin, and I tried to tell you
about this last week, but I now have graphical statistical
evidence you have a blind spot in your hierarchy and
it goes to the three seed single week. Can we
go to the data please? And I think this is
costing you in the blazing five three seed going into
the season. Rams lose three seed after Week one, Eagles
(13:11):
lose three seed last week. I told you Chargers get rocked.
Now your long term love affair with Sam Darnold is
coming to her hierarchy. And I'm telling you right now,
I haven't made my picks for the week, but based
on this alone, I'm gonna roll with Green Bay all
lay the points. I think you're doing well in Blazing
five this year. I think we've got three of your
(13:33):
losses right there on the side of the screen. You
probably had the Rams plus the points. I know you
had the Chargers last week. So I'm just saying, be
careful about this three spot in the hierarchy. It seems
to me the one place where you're missing the rest
of it.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
I like, Okay, that's funny. I'm gonna stay away from
that game. You're probably right, yeah, you know, you can
be dysfunctional. I always feel like there's dysfunctional like the
Bears or the Lions. For years, Washington, and then there's
highly functional. You know, Kansas City, Baltimore, San Francisco, Dallas
(14:08):
has always straddled the line. It's like they're functional. But
now we have an eighty one year old owner. Oh
my bad, he's a general manager. It's basically run by family.
And I watched them play Buffalo last year, in Green
Bay and the Saints and Baltimore, and my take is
they don't have enough good players. They talk about money,
(14:29):
they can't defend their run. One of the softer team.
They have no chin. If you punch them and land
a punch in the first or second round, it's over.
They just quit. And I think they're veering. And I
said this before the season, Nick, I thought they would
start a slow gradual regression. They feel a bit dysfunctional
to me now, and I've always felt they straddled the
(14:50):
they were on the they were on the side of functional.
But quirky, Am I wrong?
Speaker 6 (14:55):
So listen, I think that's fair. I think slow gradual
regression could be right. They say, you know, they won
twelve games three years.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
In a row.
Speaker 6 (15:04):
It's one of the and I so I still think
they are right now. If I had to bet money,
I would say they will make the playoffs. I don't
think that they are a serious playoff contender. But I'm
gonna throw a comp at you. That's gonna sound a
little counterintuitive, but I think you might agree with me.
This team is built a lot like just a worse
(15:25):
version of the two thousands cults, which is we have
superstar wide receiver, a quarterback that we're gonna lean into,
and if we get a lead, we're gonna unleash these
edge rushers and be able to play on a fast track.
By our terms, they are built to play from ahead
and only play from ahead. Now, I don't know that
(15:48):
that's the best way to build a team, because when
that team had Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison and
Edgar and James, they still only won one Super Bowl.
So when you have a worse version across the board
essentially of that offensively, I don't know if that's the
right strategy, but that's what they've built.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
And while I thought it was, I thought I.
Speaker 6 (16:13):
Understood the Cowboys not splurging on running backs when you
saw Josh Jacobs get so much money, Saquan gets so
much money, Derek Henry get a decent contract, not so
much money. What I don't think is defensible from the
Cowboys from a running back perspective is how are you
the only team in the league that either didn't have
(16:35):
someone in house that is plug and played Jordan Mason,
Carson Steele, Kieran Williams just.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
A guy nobody knew.
Speaker 6 (16:42):
It's like, oh, okay, he's fine, he's good, Or go
spend money on it, like the Cowboys operated this offseason,
and I trusted them on it, Like, Okay, they must
think Rico Dudel or Doucebawn or somebody is better than
the rest of us think. Or they'll draft a kid,
well they didn't, or they'll sign someone in free agency.
Your guy, Harbaugh gave JK. Dobbins a million bucks league minimum.
(17:06):
He's doing awesome. The Cowboys stood pat there, which to
me said they thought they had the solution in house.
They clearly didn't, so that has hurt them. The run
defense continues to be a problem. I still think they'll
win ten games, but I agree with you. I think
they are trending in the wrong direction.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
Listen, if the two somebody told me before the season.
It was a former NFL quarterback, smart guy. He said,
don't be shocked if bo Nicks has the best season,
because he's got all young quarterbacks need, like a guiding light,
a north star. And he goes, Peyton's great, he'll be choppy,
He's not this this this he said, But don't be surprised.
By week seventeen, if you look up, he's completing sixty
(17:46):
six percent of his throws. The team wins six games.
But he looks like the guy, and he certainly did Sunday.
So and then the other quarterback that feels like he's
got his legs under him, Miss Jaden Daniels with Cliff Kingsbury, who,
by the way, has had mahomes And so here's Caleb
and it's like, who's his guy? You know, Drake May,
(18:09):
who's his guy? Now Drake's not playing, But I look
at the Caleb situation and I'm like, this has been
a dysfunctional franchise forever. I think Jaden and Bo's success
is largely when you're young, be it a young broadcaster
or a young may or a young quarterback, you really
need a guiding person in your life, could be an
acting coach, whatever it is. Get older, it's different, I think.
(18:32):
I mean, I don't know if you'll have to blow
it up in Chicago. But Caleb looks a little lost. Nick,
he looks lost, well.
Speaker 6 (18:39):
So so I'm gonna I think this is the first
thing you've said where we're gonna disagree almost across the board.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
On first of all, I.
Speaker 6 (18:47):
Don't have any bo Nick stock, but if I did,
I'd sell it right to you right now.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
I am not.
Speaker 6 (18:52):
I understand Sean Payton is very good at his job.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
I think he is.
Speaker 6 (18:57):
Working with a very limited, low ceiling player there, so
that Bo Nicks, I'm almost gonna dismiss Jaden quite simply.
Twelve hours ago, fourteen hours ago had one of the
greatest games a rookie quarterback has ever played. So I
am not going to dismiss that. What I will say
is you mentioned Cliff Kingsbury. Cliff Kingsbury teams, whether it
(19:19):
was with Patrick Mahomes at Tech, with Kyler in Arizona,
they do seem to play their best ball and have
their most productive offenses the first quarter of a season
and then slow a bit late. But I like Jayden
coming out of college. My concern with Jaden was he
is my build, and I don't think I could survive
in NFL season, so I worry about his ability to
(19:43):
take the punishment. Caleb, in my opinion, has clearly gotten
better each week. Week one was a disaster that they
wanted to spite him. Week two he was a d
and week three, It's like, oh, those were some really
good moments mixed with some moments. You have three hundred
and fifty yards, and I know people might want to say, well,
(20:03):
fifty one, hail Mary. Fine, So he had three hundred yards,
some nice throws and a couple bad mistakes, so that
I think that is encouraging for him individually. Where I
do agree with you, however, is thus far, the the
offensive coaching seems to be inept and the offensive line
(20:25):
play seems to be really really struggling. There's the clip,
obviously of the running a speed option of the goal line.
Four of the offensive linemen instantly fall down. So none
of that is encouraging. And I thought this was a
Bears team that would be really really good because I
thought while Caleb was going through his growing pains, they
(20:46):
could run the ball and play great defense. They're playing
a Colts team that's given up literally going into the
game two hundred and forty yards a game on the ground.
They can't run the ball at all. DeAndre Swift thirteen
carries twenty yards. So I like the trajectory of Caleb Williams.
But the folks out there that said, you know what,
moving on from Everfluse and getting either Bobby Slowick or
(21:09):
Ben Johnson or an offensive minded guy to come in
and pair with Caleb was the right play. Those people
through three weeks look correct. I think the Bears will
be fine. But up to this point, there's no question
Jayden Daniels has vastly outperformed any of the other rookie quarterbacks.
And he's also, with respect to Malik Neighbors, vastly outperformed
(21:32):
any of the other rookies of any position.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
So I you know, one of the fascinating things about
Patrick Mahomes Bill Belichick was saying he loved he had
the attitude of a champion. Even when he wins, he's
self critical. And I do think that's not a small
thing is that Patrick Mahomes does not get credit for this.
His family is there's a lot of personality with his family.
(21:57):
And you got your star tight ends dating Taylor, Andy Reads,
joining you in commercials, and yet he compartmentalizes all the
Harrison Buckner and there's a lot of moving parts here.
Brady didn't have those because even Gronk was afraid to
talk under Belichick. So it was a very covert You
know what, I mean, there wasn't a lot of personality
(22:18):
in New England, Candace. He's got personality everywhere, and here
is Mahomes. He's never seduced by it, he's never distracted
by it. And I think it's the underrated part is
maybe Dad, even when I watched the Netflix stuff got it.
There's a lot of bells and whistles around Patrick. But
I think what Belichick pointed to with something we kind
(22:40):
of make fun of but it matters, is that self
criticism focus, kind of a workaholic. I think Belichick nailed
that he's seeing with more talent, he's seeing a lot
of Brady and Mahomes. And we wouldn't naturally say that,
but I see it too.
Speaker 6 (23:00):
It's exactly right, and the listen. This is cliche or anecdotal,
but it did happen. It is something that Patrick Mahomes
at the podium awaiting the trophy has not yet gotten
the Super Bowl, the Lombardi Trophy is caught on a
Mike saying we gotta get a third one. It is something, yes,
(23:25):
that when he is right now as close to unanimously accepted,
you know, one of the five greatest quarterbacks ever already
going to be in the goat conversation, if not already
and clearly the best quarterback in the world. That was
unanimous up until about you know, ten BM last night
(23:46):
when people started being intoxicated by Josh Allen once again.
But it's still close to unanimous. He is still his
own biggest critic. So the other thing I think the
Chiefs have going for them, and you see this week
in week out, is even if the media and folks
watching and Chiefs fans can be like man, something with
(24:09):
the offense isn't just right. It's not quite as scary
as it used to be. Patrick, Isn't you know? The
Bengals game is one of the worst games I've ever
seen him play. All those things are true. You know
who acts like they are every single week playing vintage
Mahomes and vintage Chiefs the opponent. You see the opposing
coach go for it on fourth down more often than
(24:30):
they want to. You see the opposing team press. You
see everyone that is competing with the Chiefs treats them
during the game with the respect of this guy is
going to rip our throat out, which to me leads
to self inflicted wounds and mistakes That allows the Chiefs
even when they're not playing great. They played really well
(24:53):
for three quarters against Baltimore. Since then, they have played
c minus football, and yet they're undefeated, and yet they
are in a position where they're already through the hardest
part of their schedule. Some of that is coaching and
the defense and Mahomes making plays in big moments, and
some of that is kind of the aura of the
dynasty hanging over the opposition, which makes them tighten up
(25:17):
a bit or play outside of themselves just a bit,
which benefits the Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
Grape, Yeah, it's Mahomes. John Elway had this quality and
to some degree Brady, but Elway was the first. It's
like they're great power hitters, and whoever's batting in front
of the power hitter gets more fastballs because you don't
want the guy before the power hitter. On is that
Elway literally changed how you coach the other team. And
I don't think there's any question people are terrified far
(25:44):
I've had a little bit of this but didn't win
at the end of the season. As much is that
Mahomes changes other teams, headsets, play calls, sensibility. He is
Nick Wright, He is my friend, looks dapper as al
as your show is crushing. She's crushing, buddy. By the way,
I like Kansas City. They've been out gained. Not great,
but not punt.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
I Oh, I know.
Speaker 6 (26:05):
Listen, here's the thing. I'll say this, because the Chiefs
do a lot of things, don't do a lot of
things great right now, right, But there's one thing every
other team in the league does that the Chiefs don't do,
and that's lose games. It's the weird thing about the
Chiefs just don't lose games. Like everyone else will lose games.
(26:26):
The Chiefs don't lose games. So because that they're pretty good,
they just don't lose.
Speaker 5 (26:30):
So I like that.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Good point, very observant, Nick, Right, good see anybody all right?
Jaylab has the best audio products in the game, and
they're ready to take care of you this football season.
It's in the blue box at the local airport, Walmart, Target,
best Buy, and more. I love them jaylab dot com.

whenever you like. Oh, we got stuff going on today,
Jerry Jones is talking in Dallat's get to that in
a second before j Mack with the news.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
This is the herd Line News.
Speaker 5 (27:07):
All right, Let's get to the Cowboys big Thursday night
game against the Giants this week, must win for Dallas.
Back to back losses, some infighting on the sideline.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
I love that phrase, infighting.
Speaker 5 (27:19):
Over the last two losses, Dak and the offense have
been anemic. They have no run game to speak of. Uh,
Dak knows a lot has to change this week.
Speaker 7 (27:27):
Very frustrating, especially when you're playing, uh, a quarterback like
that on that side, an offense that powerful, explosive, you
just can't do it. Honestly, just haling some of the
defensive guys. We gotta we gotta look in the mirror
of us offense first. We just got to be more focused.
And that's what to me on offense where we haven't
been as focused as we should have. Had a lot
(27:48):
of or a few mental airs that were that were crucial.
I guess you could say just the timing wise, and
to me, it just goes into being professional and understanding
what you gotta do.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
I think we're in lockstep here right now.
Speaker 5 (28:04):
We are in this handily. They dominated twelve straight wins
over the Giants.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
Well for Dack, Yeah, I just this is one of
these weird weeks. Underdogs have done very well this year
in the NFL, They've done very very well. This is
one of these weeks where I think the Jets and
the Cowboys are favorites that I really really like. I
really like them. I think I think this is a
good spot. You know, we always talk about it, take
out your top teams. Is it a good spot for
(28:31):
a team? Dallas humiliated faces a team that probably is
feeling themselves, neighbors. They went on the road and won
a big game New York, feeling themselves a little bit there,
young players, And I look at it and I think, also,
the Cowboys are incredibly vulnerable to a powerful run game,
and the Giants don't have it. What the Cowboys have
(28:52):
is if they get a lead, which they may in
this game, may probably get a lead, then they have
a pass rush against Aniel Jones. So the vulnerability of
the Dallas Cowboys will not be exposed. There is no
Alvin Kamara here, There's no Saquon Barkley in the This
is a Giants team that's their offense right now, we're
(29:13):
all jacked up about neighbors, not their run game.
Speaker 5 (29:17):
Interesting angle that I saw last night watching the Bengals
are the Bengals similar to the Cowboys in that they're
starting to become very top heavy. Quarterback getting a lot
of money, chirpy wide receiver demanding a lot of money,
and then basically one star defender Trey Hendrickson and Michael Parsons.
And it feels like they're just so top heavy that
(29:39):
there's like nothing else Dallas's defense outside of Micah very
suspect and the Bengals have no defense.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
Yes, and I'll go back to Dallas, which is so
weird to me. We didn't have money for Dereck Henry. Well,
why not look at the Philadelphia and San Francisco's roster.
They're paying everybody. Philadelphia pays everybody receive verse quarterback edge, right,
I mean they went and got huffed. They pay everybody.
Speaker 4 (30:04):
Huff hasn't done anom thing yet to year.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
By the way, maybe that's why the Jeffs got right. Yes,
But I would say is that some of these teams,
I mean, there's just always money for certain teams in Dallas.
For the last year, has been up against it.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
No, no, no, next up? Oh this is spicy. So Bengals
quarnerback Cam Taylor Britt.
Speaker 5 (30:21):
Remember a week ago he had that sick pick off
of Mahomes with the one hand. Well, he took a
shot at Cliff Kingsbury and the Commanders this past week
calling him a nice college offense ahead of the game.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
Well, everybody take note of it.
Speaker 5 (30:34):
The college offense put up thirty eight points on Camp
Taylor Britt and the Bengals and Camp Taylor Britt listen.
He was forced to eat pro after the game.
Speaker 8 (30:43):
And I didn't mean anything malicious out of the coming.
It was just made bigger than what it was from. Yes,
I can eat my word more definitely. We did take
ale today. It as a team, it was sort of
car was offer very quick, quick throws and very athleticating
his name plays man, that's how the game win. And
then they started their planet.
Speaker 5 (31:05):
Zach Taylor piled on after the game the coach can
we call it embattled?
Speaker 4 (31:09):
Coach Zach Taylor is that okay word? He's in trouble.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
I would say this.
Speaker 4 (31:17):
Like, how many slow starts can you have every year?
Speaker 1 (31:19):
No?
Speaker 4 (31:19):
No, it's like, dude, you're the problem.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
It was the first time last night that I looked
at Zach Taylor differently because I've defended it.
Speaker 4 (31:27):
Yeah, you have, but.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
It can't just be Joe Burrow scoring thirty like the franchise.
By the way, like the Cowboys, you have a son
of the owner heavily involved in football operations. I'm not
a huge.
Speaker 5 (31:41):
Fan, so Zach Taylor said, we don't need to take
shots like that.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
This team hasn't punted in two weeks. Again.
Speaker 5 (31:49):
I like the Bengals this week against the Panthers. I
remember in July I was like, I like Bengals going
in the Super Bowl. This team's just not They don't
have a lot of talent.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
Now they moved off Baits and Belly moved back and
well do you have let me ask you this, do
you have to Well, yeah, if you want to pay,
they haven't. They haven't even paid Jamar Chase yet and
they've already moved off. Gud, you're getting ready. You know what,
who doesn't get ready? Philadelphia? They wait until the last second.
They pay everybody they can. I'm sorry, but I watched
(32:18):
the Niners and the Rams and the Eagles and the
Ravens and everybody has to move off people. I get it,
but they I look at Cincinnati and it's like their
history is they're cheap. Take Burrow out of this operation.
Have one great pass rusher, one great receiver, and a
great quarterback. It feels very Dallas to me, and a
family with a son in the football operation, and they're
(32:41):
probably great guys, but it's like I just see that.
I don't know. I don't love what I see upstairs.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
So you do have to move off guys. You're right
because some guys get just get it and it happens.
But you got a draft.
Speaker 5 (32:51):
Well, and I don't know that the Bengals have nailed
a ton of drafting. Remember that they had Baits in
the secondary. He was awesome like their secondary now, like
nobody's afraid of them. Javen Daniels last night twenty one
or twenty three, like the best performance.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
He averaged the eleven yards of completion. That's just getting
no pushback, stunning at home and Cincinnati has a bit
of a pass rush, and then at Washington didn't have
a great old line, so it's.
Speaker 5 (33:15):
Like, I mean, look, he was just undaunted in enemy tary,
like nobody's afraid to go into Cincinnati. Jakobe Brissett went
in there and went up and down the field against
him like a Bengals man.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
Woof.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
Final story, Let's go to Patrick Mahomes Collins. He's off
to one of the worst statistical starts of his career,
but the Chiefs are three and zero.
Speaker 5 (33:35):
Mahome's admitted he has not played well and then he
needs to get back to fundamentals.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
Andy Reid, for some reason, is taking on some of
the responsibility.
Speaker 9 (33:44):
I thought he just kind of saw kind of got
into a rhythm the second the second half, and a
lot of that's my responsibility to get him into that
rhythm earlier and sou well, we'll go back and I'll
discuss all that and get that taken care of.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
He came off a game where he had to get
the ball.
Speaker 9 (34:05):
Out quickly last week with the pressure that was was on.
But I thought the offensive line dite a nice job here,
and I think Pat will see that and that also
helps situation.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
I think here's the good news for Kansas City. Xavier
Worthy is only going to get better. Hollywood Brown's gonna
come back.
Speaker 5 (34:27):
No, no, no, no, wait a minute, we don't know
the Browns coming back, he could be done for the year.
Speaker 4 (34:31):
Pacheco also could be done.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
For the year.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Well that's those are big cookies my takeaway as they're
doing it now banged up. But for the record, wait, surviving,
Well they're not surviving. But like, like, here's the thing.
Rashie Rice is a one.
Speaker 4 (34:44):
He's very good.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
The last two years they haven't had a one. They
got a one. And I do think Worthy will never
be a volume receiver. But I think at the end
of the first round, if you can get a gadget
guy that can make plays in big games, and that's
what Worthy is. He's not. And they also have now
a second tiight end they like, and a bunch of
like Jujus Smiths Schuster is a good three.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
Look at the screen column. The numbers don't lie.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
Well. They're also playing good teams.
Speaker 5 (35:07):
Baltimore's defense, I don't think they're good, but Bengals defense
is pathetic as we know in the Falcons defense, nobody's
afraid of those guys. So I know, good teams maybe,
but Mahomes is putting up crap numbers against mediocre to
bad defenses. That's a fair statement, it's factual. I'm not
a hater of the Chiefs. These are just I mean,
the numbers are true. Patrick Mahomes doesn't have a three
(35:27):
hundred yard game this season. His numbers every week almost
have declined. Cal he's making some bad passes. I don't
know what's going Maybe it's boredom apathy.
Speaker 4 (35:37):
He's like, ah, we gotta go to Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (35:38):
Play week three.
Speaker 5 (35:39):
Can we just fast forward to January and go for
our third straight Super Bowl?
Speaker 4 (35:42):
That could be a thing, right, Tell my men's league
basketball team treats the season. You just can't wait for
the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
J Mack with the news.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
Herd Line. Be sure to catch live editions of The
Herd dayson noon eastern nine am Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 5 (36:06):
Sunday, we got a huge day of football on Fox.
At one the Eastern Jalen Hurts leads the Eagles against
Baker Mayfield and the Bucks. At four, the Patriots take
on Brockberdy and the Niners. Check for the game in
your area only on Fox and the Fox Sports App.
Speaker 1 (36:22):
So Jay Mack is gonna take Matt Eberflus and Caleb
Williams over Sean McVay and Matt Stafford.
Speaker 5 (36:29):
Well, I got them at two and two and a
half Monday when we talked about on the show, it's
three across the board.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
You can't find that game at two and a half.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
So I get McVay, Stafford and a field goal.
Speaker 5 (36:39):
Well, I don't like the Bears as much at a
field goal under a field. Listen, this is just you
know how the league works, Colin. Yeah, it's a week
to weekly. It's also a coach quarterback.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
League, is it really?
Speaker 1 (36:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (36:51):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (36:51):
Sam Darnold just beat up on CJ. Stroud last week.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
You know, Well, like Kevin O'Connell could be the best
young offensive coach in the sport.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
He's damn good.
Speaker 5 (36:59):
Brian flore needs a shout out as the best defensive
coordinator so far in the league this year.
Speaker 1 (37:04):
I know, we heard everybody's feelings in Miami. It's football.
Speaker 5 (37:08):
By the way, did you see who he shut down
the last two weeks? Yes, Shanahan offenses Texan Slowick runs Shanahan,
so they kind of got lucky to face Shanahan back
to back weeks. Well, Shanahan ish right, Slowick runs similar
stuff that he learned from Shanahan, and I think he
did a phenomenal job.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
Minnesota is they're plucky.
Speaker 5 (37:28):
I don't think you want to see them in the
playoffs if they keep this up with Hawkinson when he
gets healthy, Jordan Addison, Justin Jefferson, Aaron Jones.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
They got weapons. Also, Donald moves well, Donald's mobile.
Speaker 4 (37:41):
So you got NFC does it feel wide open?
Speaker 1 (37:43):
Well, the NFC North is easily the best offensive division. Okay,
you just if you did a Pro Bowl offense just
out of that division, it could compete with anybody.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
But who's the best team right now in the NFC?
Speaker 3 (37:55):
For you?
Speaker 4 (37:55):
Who's the team to be?
Speaker 1 (37:56):
I think I'll still hang my hat on Green Bay.
I think they're young. God, they've got a lot of dudes,
and now they're making plays on defense. I didn't do
that before.
Speaker 4 (38:08):
I think they had eight sacks of will love this
last week.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
By the way, Jerry Jones on Dallas Radio, listen to this, folks,
Jerry Jones owning it on Dallas radio this morning. WFAA
TV this morning had a pull, you know, say, who
was to blame for the one and two start?
Speaker 4 (38:26):
The players in the field, everything.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
Said that you were the one to blame.
Speaker 4 (38:31):
Is that fair?
Speaker 3 (38:32):
That's very fair. That's very fair. Bitch well known that
no decision is ultimately made there for what I either
have acquiesced or improve it. That's very fair. How could
you think otherwise?
Speaker 1 (38:46):
Let me ask you, functionality. Are the Cowboys now closer
closer to a Carolina than in Kansas City? So the NFL,
it does feel a little bit like the tech industry.
No nostalgia. Nobody cares about yesterday in tech? What's the
(39:06):
new thing? NFL? We don't talk about Mickey Mantle. Nobody cares.
Nobody cares about nostalgia in tech. And the Cowboys feel
a little like Intel, a titan from a bygone era.
And the top teams like Kansas City feel like Nvidia.
That's where you want to put your money, only getting better,
bumpy sometimes, But that's where the future's at ai Like
(39:29):
I'm just saying from a functionality standpoint, eighty one year
old owner who sees himself as a GM holding postgame
press conferences for his vanity not a great roster, have
largely overpaid for players they draft. Now, we can keep
blaming Dak, but maybe it's the guy signing his checks.
(39:49):
That's all I'm saying. So and I you know, I've
gone back and forth. There are things I like about Dak,
and a part of what I like about him is
his maturity to be a able to compartmentalize this circus.
It's a bit of a circus. So it's very much
a family business. The family members play. They have all
the leverage in the organization, a little bit like the
Lakers now big profile, but you know it's friends of
(40:12):
the bus family, which does not sit well with everybody
in Los Angeles. So just you know, Kobe's pagent is
now running the organization. They were always close. I'm not
saying it's necessarily wrong, but sometimes I feel like the
Lakers and the Cowboys are these big brands that meet
outside eyes a little bit.
Speaker 5 (40:30):
Let me ask you one and I hope this is
not too out of left field. Based on three games
this season, ranked the quarterbacks in the NFC East just
on the three games.
Speaker 4 (40:41):
I don't care about the previous years. Well, let's hear it.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
Come on, Oh, I like Jalen Hurts.
Speaker 4 (40:46):
Okay, he's one who's two Dak, so through three games
he has not been better than Jade Daniels. He has not.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
Teams defense is awful. Dak's been okay, Dak's been fine.
Speaker 4 (41:01):
Show me a Dak throw that rivals. What James Daniels
did last night to win the Game Boy, he was amazing.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
He's not Dak. He's all right.
