Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Welcome back to The Herd. I'm Danny Parkins in for Colin.
We'll talk some gambling with the Bear coming up in
about twenty minutes. Very excited to be joining what I
would say is the best show in sports television. First
things first for this football season and going forward as
FtF expands to three hours, which means I will be
(00:48):
joining focus with our forces with our next guest, Chris
Brusard Brew, Thank you for joining the Herd.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
We have football this week.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
There's a Hall of Fame game, there's Top ten lists,
there's football. But then because it's Lebron and basketball, it.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Finds a way. He's just it. It finds away into
the headlines.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
What do you make of.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Nikola Jokicic's agent being on a yacht in France with
Lebron and Maverick Carter saying summer of twenty twenty five
perfect time to come up with big plans for fall
of twenty twenty six. Like the picture is nothing, the
caption is something.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
What is it to you?
Speaker 5 (01:30):
Right?
Speaker 6 (01:31):
Well, first of all, let me say I can't wait
to have you on the show in a few weeks
where we expand the three hours on First things first,
So thanks. What's already great is going to be even
greater when you join this, So I'm.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
Excited about that.
Speaker 6 (01:43):
But as far as the Jokic Lebron Maverick Carter photo,
a lot of people are talking about Lebron joining.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
Forces with Jokic. I don't see that at all.
Speaker 6 (01:53):
Now, what is possible he mentions, you know, fall the
twenty twenty six that is when Lebron will be a
free agent. If he wanted to go play with Jokic
on the veteran's minimum or maybe.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
The mid level exception, whatever they could offer.
Speaker 6 (02:11):
Him, then I guess that's possible. Lebron does like playing
with high IQ players. He obviously has tons of respect
for Jokic's game, so he could go have fun with that.
I don't see that happening, But I think this was
more about Remember, Lebron's best friend and business partner, Maverick Carter,
(02:31):
is starting this international league that.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Presumably is going to try to compete with.
Speaker 6 (02:37):
The NBA, and Jokicic's agent has a ton of European players,
as you might imagine. So I think it was more
so about how they can work together and join forces
for that league, and what players might be able to
play for it, and so on and so forth, then
about Lebron teaming up with Yogics, As delicious as that
(03:00):
would be, I don't see it happening.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
So they're trolling a little bit because no one, Yeah,
they're trolling. No one is thinking about it.
Speaker 6 (03:08):
Lebron may have even given him that, like this is
how you're worried, because that's typical Lebron putting it out there,
making us wonder and oh my god, can this happen?
Speaker 4 (03:19):
But I know I'll be.
Speaker 6 (03:22):
Floored if Lebron and Jokic ever played together, as would I.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
You are a journalist, so you know the difference between
journalism and pr And Luka Doncic graces us on the
cover of Men's Health, and Luka Doncic looks shredded, and Luka.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Doncic to me, is doing some pr to.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Get people like, oh yeah, he cares and he's a
professional and he's working out. And I don't know if
those images are doctored or whatever, but good for Luca
forgetting in shape. But beyond the pictures, I read the
article and there are two men of Lebron James brew
in the article, both by the writer, like normally athleticism is,
(04:06):
you know, with Lebron James level biceps and you know
things like that, right, And then there is a quote
from Luka Doncic after he apparently credited witnessing Dirk Novitsky
early in his early in Luca's career, Dirk late in
his career about how he worked out. I want to
put the quote up here for the FS one audience.
He said, you know MJ and Kobe, you know, they
(04:28):
really did a lot in their careers.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
They sacrificed a lot.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
And I'm thinking I thought the narrative was that Luca
was going to learn from Lebron how to take care
of his body. But he doesn't credit Lebron in the article.
What do you make of it?
Speaker 4 (04:45):
Nothing?
Speaker 6 (04:46):
Nothing, First of all, it might be pr the way
Luca looks. But he had me at hello, coach, I mean,
my goodness, he looks.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
I'm sold. Dude looks awesome. Man.
Speaker 6 (04:58):
I think he's gonna be better than ever to get
to the Lebron MJ Kobe thing.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
We all know. Luca has talked about.
Speaker 6 (05:05):
His love for Lebron, watching him growing up and you know,
modeling some of his play affter Lebron and I look,
you're right, he said him Jay and Kobe and who
can fall through for that too?
Speaker 4 (05:16):
All time greats. Obviously Kobe a Laker great, But I
and remember who he works for.
Speaker 6 (05:23):
To some degree, he's a Jordan athlete, right, Yeah, he's
a Jordan bred athlete.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
So he mentions Jordan, his shoe company.
Speaker 6 (05:31):
He mentions Kobe the legend of the team that he
plays for.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
But I'm gonna be honest, Danny.
Speaker 6 (05:38):
When I saw this article, saw how Luca looked, read
it about you know how he's changed and this summer
is different for him. I gave a big shout out
to Lebron James like this, this is a testament to
Lebron James's example and the impact it had on Luka
Doncics like lead, he's been in the League six seven years.
(06:02):
And I know we've always seen pictures of slim Luca
in the summers, but this.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Is clearly different.
Speaker 6 (06:08):
And he said as much that this is different this summer,
I think he played with Lebron and saw wow, as
much physical ability as Lebron has, as much natural ability,
as much size and strength and athleticism as Lebron has naturally,
he goes above and beyond to become the player he.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Is, Like, he's not just playing off.
Speaker 6 (06:34):
His natural ability and giving you the basic doing the basic.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
Workout that all the other NBA players do.
Speaker 6 (06:40):
We know he goes above and beyond. And I think
that really clicked with Luca. And I think he said,
you know what, if I want to be as good
as him, then I need.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
To do something different.
Speaker 6 (06:52):
And he's going through two A days right now according
to that article. So but I shout out Lebron, Shout
out Lebron.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
Why this team? Because this is current teammate.
Speaker 6 (07:06):
You don't want to be all falling over your current teammate.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
You got love for me, You follow my.
Speaker 6 (07:12):
Example, Nick writes, follow my example, y'all.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
Don't fall over me. Yeah, come at me.
Speaker 6 (07:18):
For some reason, you're trying to come at me, But
you grew up watching me, you know.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
I mean, I get it.
Speaker 6 (07:23):
You know, I say, you'd rather talk about you know,
somebody else that's not on the show with you, So.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
I get it.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and Noone Eastern nin am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 7 (07:37):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing, we
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to.
Speaker 8 (07:46):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Yeah, you blubber list me.
Speaker 7 (08:00):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 8 (08:04):
Well, it's a Covino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships and if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.
Speaker 7 (08:18):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promise and also uncensored by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.
Speaker 8 (08:28):
There you go, over Promising, and remember you could see
it on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen over Promised
with Covino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts
or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Okay, I'll think about Colin Cowhard, who isn't here, who
lets me sit in his seat?
Speaker 2 (08:45):
All right, we'll speaking of coming at each other. I
know you have a lot of practice.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Going at Knicks lists, but I feel like you really dislike.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
My quarterback rankings. Brew.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
I feel.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
We called parkins peak on FtF. They asked me to
do my.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Top ten here. I was like, I'll just bring it
on over. It was an easy transfer.
Speaker 9 (09:04):
Here.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
I look at that and I see a perfect indisputable
top ten.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
You see something different?
Speaker 6 (09:12):
Yeah, Well, first of all, look, you you got the.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
Number one, right, That's I'll start positive.
Speaker 6 (09:18):
All right, you got the number one guy, and you
can I would put Lamar too, but Josh Allen's fine.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
He's been better in the playoffs.
Speaker 6 (09:26):
So I'll give you that. But I have to put
Lamar a head of Joe Burrow. Joe Burrow some of
his injuries, but hasn't been in the playoffs since twenty
twenty two. And I love Burrow, but I've never seen
a player ride so much off of one playoff victory
over Patrick Mahomes. You know he's riding off of that.
So I would have to switch Lamar and Burrow and
(09:47):
have Burrow at four. And then this is where it
gets crazy. Is that the justin Herbert that through the
four interceptions the last time we saw him in the
playoff game to him is.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
That hands in fairness?
Speaker 4 (10:05):
That's okay?
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Okay?
Speaker 6 (10:08):
When still when I look at Broke Football Reference, it's
still says more interceptions.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
And so look, I am with you, and.
Speaker 6 (10:17):
Like everybody loves Herbert's talent, I assume and he was
great as early in his career, his first few years.
I assume you're saying, look, he's got a very good coach.
Even though he kind of took the ball out of
his hands, He's gonna start winning. He's gonna be you know,
you throw a fewer picks and things like that with hardball,
so you're projecting, and he does have top five talent,
(10:40):
but right now I can't put him there. I would
put Jaydon Daniels. You know, my my m O five
to twelve ish is fluid, but right now the tide
is pushing Jaydon Daniels to number five. We'll seev Holds
on Jalen Hurts. I gotta have above Justin Herbert Matthew Stafford.
(11:01):
I think, look, he's thirty seven. We know now the
back is bothering him. He's not gonna practice this week.
That's really been his problem since the Super Bowl win
a few years ago. Injuries have lessened his impact, even
kept him out of some game. So I think Stafford
just might be he feels like an old thirty seven,
and that's old enough as it is just by itself.
(11:23):
So I think Stafford is probably on the decline. I
think he got Jared Golfer tad Bit high.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
But you know the list.
Speaker 6 (11:32):
The main thing is Justin Herbert is too high, and
I don't understand it for the life of me.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
Let's just say the trade was offered Herbert for Hertz
who says.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
No, Philly, No, they would not.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
Now.
Speaker 6 (11:49):
AJ Brown might not say no or divide day Smith,
but I really I think.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
Philly says no. How you doing the Toush push with Justin.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Herbert handed it to Saquon Barkley and you're throwing the
ball to A J.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
Brown.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
We could get rid of the Toush push.
Speaker 6 (12:08):
Look, Herbert, I love Herbert, not as much as you,
thank you, but I do like Herbert.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
Two things can be true. All the talent in the world.
Speaker 6 (12:17):
And it's tough right physically tough's played through injury. But
you have to be a bit taken aback and have
to give pause because of the way he's played in
these playoffs. He wasn't horrible in the first game when
they let you know, Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville come back.
He didn't like throw a bunch of picks, but he
just didn't.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
Do anything in the second half.
Speaker 6 (12:39):
But he really hasn't been great in the biggest games
in the playoffs at least, so you do have.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
To admit that. No.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
I mean, yeah, ohldn't you with a terrible collapse in
one and four interceptions with the other?
Speaker 2 (12:51):
I cannot hard. I cannot argue that point.
Speaker 6 (12:55):
Those two sentences you just said, and number fifth best
quarter in the world.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
Don't jive.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
It's a team game, don't. I'm sorry, it's a team game.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
That's right. It was Will Disley that through those.
Speaker 6 (13:11):
Four interceptions just there, that's what Jim Harball's saying. Right
the other team, the other players got to pick it up.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
They gotta catch up.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
They got to catch up to get on.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
Just now you're seeing me and Harbaugh as that next
level football thinking. I said it earlier in the show
Brew thirty one NFL Teams and a Television Producer. I
think Jerry Jones gave away the plot in the Netflix
documentary when he said it's a soap opera three hundred
and sixty five days a year. And when we are
(13:41):
trying to be like, why would they handle Ceedee Lamb
this way? Why would they handle Micah Parsons this way?
I feel like that four second clip in the trailer
explained everything.
Speaker 6 (13:52):
What about you, You're right on the money, look it.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
Remember you know thinking your favor sports movies.
Speaker 6 (14:01):
I like loving basketball, Bulldoorham that's maybe before your time,
but these are movies.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
They're sports movies. Right, Yeah, but.
Speaker 6 (14:10):
They're not really about sports. They're just in a sports setting.
That's the Dallas Cowboys under Jerry Jones, at least since
they won their last Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
They are a drama.
Speaker 6 (14:22):
They are I've used that term to describe them soap
opera that's in a football setting.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
They're not really a football franchise.
Speaker 6 (14:31):
The New England Patriots, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Los Angeles Chargers, those.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Are football franchises.
Speaker 6 (14:38):
The Dallas Cowboys are a soap opera, a drama, an
entertainment factory like that just happens to be in a
football setting.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
And what I would say to Jerry, because you put
it out. I thought you spelled it out.
Speaker 6 (14:52):
Well in your last segment. That's what this thing.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
Is with Micah.
Speaker 6 (14:57):
He might pay Mike, he's gonna make him the highest
paid non quarterback ever, but he might go well above TJ.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
Watts forty one million dollars.
Speaker 6 (15:05):
Per because he likes having that reputation. It will help
him among other players right on other teams. And say, man,
Jerry went way above, you know, making Mike of the
highest paid non qb. And but I would say this
to Jerry making another dollar on the Cowboys is not
going to change anything for him, but winning another Super
(15:30):
Bowl would. And I really think the entertainment value, the
value of the franchise, keeping the Cowboys on talk shows
like this and ours and the other networks is most
important to Jerry. But they already have a sky high
value as the Cowboys. What would change his world would
(15:54):
be winning another Super Bowl. And I don't think he
sees it that way unfortunately, because you know, make how
much more money does he need and how much more
valuable do they need to get? They're gonna keep rising
in value no matter what. So I just think he's
approaching it the wrong way.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
Chris Brossard, First things first, we'll be watching later, Thank you, sir.
All right, man later, all right, talk to you soon.
That's Chris Brossard from First Things First, coming up.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
It's a shame I don't have a bet yet for
the Heisman Trophy.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
I got a lot of futures bets already placed for football.
I need a little bit more on my college football card.
The Bear helps me fill that void. Plus, never too
early to bet Texas and Ohio State the Bear.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
Next, I'm Danny Parkins. This is the Hurt.
Speaker 5 (16:42):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon Eastern nin a Empacific.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
Welcome back to the Herd. I'm Danny Parkins in for Colin.
It is football season because we have the Hall of
Fame game this week, but it's always football season if
you gamble on football, which means it's time to bring
on my.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Next guest, Chris Flika.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
You know him as the Bear Box Big Neon Kickoff
host of Bear Bets with Jeff Schwartz. I've been a
guest on that show and bear listen. I don't want
you to have to bring it up, so I'll do it.
I went sixty five percent against the spread in the
NFL last year, documented on TV.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
It's not it's not a big deal.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
I beat Colin, I beat Nick, I beat you. It's
not a big deal. I don't want you to have
to bring it up, so I'm going to say it.
But you're the gambling expert, and college football is right
around the corner. I know you will be at Texas
and Ohio State. Do we have an early bear bet
for that game?
Speaker 9 (17:45):
Sixty five orci? But who's counting, right?
Speaker 2 (17:47):
I mean, it's not a big deal.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
It's not a big deal.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Did I also have a winning record in the postseason?
Speaker 4 (17:53):
I did?
Speaker 2 (17:54):
Did I also have a winning Super Bowl?
Speaker 4 (17:55):
I did?
Speaker 2 (17:56):
But stop bringing it up. Bear stop.
Speaker 9 (17:58):
I'm sorry. I'll let you move on. I don't want
to have you live in the past. I'll stop bringing
you all of gak ex accolades from life from last season.
If that way we could focus twenty twenty five. You
had an unbelievable year and that was kudos to you
for that. But looking ahead to twenty twenty five and
notably Ohio State Texas to open the year, I know
(18:20):
everybody's looking for a side in this game, Texas or
Ohio State, But the thing that attracts me the most
is the total in this game. Fifteen and a half
seems like a very high number for a couple of
teams where you've got new coordinators, you've got new starting quarterbacks,
you've got new offensive linemen, you've got new running backs.
(18:41):
On the Ohio State side of the ball, I think
you look at the best union on the field will
probably be the Texas defense. So I don't think Steve
Sarkishan is going to put together a game plan that's
going to dictate arch Manning goes on the road at
Ohio State in Game one to win this game. Look
at the semi five game from a year ago. It
(19:01):
was twenty eight to fourteen, and that included a defensive
touchdown by Ohio State late in the game. So the
Texas defense held that unbelievable Ohio State offense to twenty
one points. So I was twenty at fourteen forty two
points including an that offensive score. I could see a
very similar tight twenty three seventeen type game where where
it doesn't even come close to going over fifty and
(19:23):
a half. So yeah, under fifty and a half is
what I like right now, and that big one that
I can't wait to get to with big un at
the end of August.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
And people say unders are boring, not if they win,
exactly right, I'll take it back the same, Yeah, they're.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Not boring if they win.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
At this point, I normally have a Heisman future and
I don't right now.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Can you help me out? It doesn't matter. I'll tell you.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
I'll bet a favorite if it wins. But what's your
best Heisman bet?
Speaker 9 (19:50):
I have bet two players in the Heisman trophy market.
I have bet Carson Beck, the Miami quarterback at thirty
three to one, and I bet Jeremiah Love, the Notre
Dame running back, at forty to one. So those are
the two I have in pocket. I think people forget
how good Carson Beck was a couple of years ago,
have like twenty five touchdowns, six picks, hit over seventy
(20:12):
percent of his passes. He's going to have one of
the best offensive lines in the country in Miami. He's
going to have a deep group of running backs. At Miami,
They're going to be a one first type of team.
They're not going to put too much pressure on it.
But I think with Elijah Laughton and Jojo Trader, they
have a wide receiver. They got a couple of guys
who they think very highly of. So if Miami were
(20:33):
to beat Notre Dame in Week one, that price is
going to get slashed in half. So grab that number
and now one Carson Beck. And then I also took
at Jeremiah Love, the Notre Dame running back. We saw
what he can do all year. He catches the ball
out of the backfield. Obviously a great runner. Notre Dame
can win that game. Maybe they go undefeated, even if
Notre Dame were to lose that game, they potentially went
(20:53):
out go to the playoff. He's the best player on
one of the biggest brands in college football. I think
maybe after last year with Travis Hunter winning the Heisman
is kind of a defensive hybrid wide receiver guy. I
can see a lot of voters maybe taking a step
back and getting a little bit more traditional this year
with the quarterback running back type.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
Winner talking football, gambling with the bear. All right, let's
move to the NFL. Last year, Washington shattered their win total,
and I'm trying to figure it out, like, not just
the team that ekes it over, but who's the team
with a low total that could shatter thereover and give
you a comfortable win?
Speaker 4 (21:32):
All Right?
Speaker 9 (21:32):
I know I'm kind of taking my life in my
own hands here a little bit with the Raheem Morris
school of game and clock management. But I think the
Falcons win total of seven and a half. It's a
very weak division. I am high on Michael Pennix. They
look great now for drafting him given what happened to
Kirk Cousins late last year. And if you look at
the Falcons last year, remember this was a team that
(21:55):
was six and three before Cousins got hurt and absolutely
fell off the cliff. You've got Drake Lundon, You've got
b John Robinson. You've got a schedule, like I said,
of a very poor division, maybe one cold weather game
late in the year against the Jets, who aren't very good.
Not a ton of Super Bowl playoff contenders on that schedule.
(22:15):
The Falcons are a team this year that I can
see very easily getting to that ten win mark, just
like the Commanders did last year.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
All right, so the Falcons are at seven and a
half wins, so yeah, if they get to double digit
that would certainly qualify. So let's do the inverse of
the question. Give me a team with a win.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Total, let's say of nine to nine and a half
or higher.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Right, so, expected to be a double digit win team
that doesn't just win eight or nine games and eke under,
but has a chance to be way worse than projections suggest.
Speaker 9 (22:43):
Kevin O'Connell was Coach of the Year last year. Brian
flora Is very easily could have been the assistant coach
of the Year last year. I can't quite get there yet.
With all of this love for the Minnesota Vikings. I
think Sam Darnold obviously had a magical year, and they
have a great receiving corp. Remember you went nine in
one in one score games. You're turning it over to
JJ McCarthy, who hasn't really played a competitive down of
(23:06):
football in a couple of years. Be very interested to
see how the Vikings do this year in that difficult division,
difficult schedule. Now, one thing that I like to do
with some of these teams that I don't necessarily have
a great feeling about in terms of them being super good.
The Vikings are a team that if you look at
the early part of the schedule, before they have that
(23:28):
London game and the idle week, they could start off
four in one, maybe five and zero, three and two.
You might be able to get an additional winneror two
on the win total, because when they come back from
the overseas trick, you've got Detroit, you've got Baltimore, you've
got Philly, you've got the Chargers, you got the Packers,
like you might be able to wait and potentially get
(23:49):
maybe under ten and a half or so on the Vikings.
Once that win total gets adjusted in season, so you
can play it now, or you could potentially wait and
hope that the Vikings get off to a good start
and you can be a better number at some point
during the year.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
So the Steelers, it's like contractually obligated. You mentioned the Steelers,
they've never had They've never had a losing record right
under Mike Tomlin. Yep, but the win total actually expects
them to and that's not the first year that that
has happened. Do you believe that they actually will have
their first losing season under Mike Tomlin and cash and under.
Speaker 9 (24:25):
Well, I'm glad you did the payoff on the contractual
obligation because anytime you mentioned the Steelers, you are contractually
obligated that they've never had a losing record uder Mike Tomlin, don't.
I don't see it. I think they're always going to
be so well coached, they have such a great home
field advantage. They feel like a nine and eight type
of team. So I play how I played the Steelers
(24:49):
this year was to lose in the wild card round
at plus three twenty, because what that means is you
figure they're probably a playoff team, fringe wildcard team, and
that means they're going to I have to go on
the road and play either Buffalo or Baltimore or Kansas City,
and they're not going to win that game. So at
plus three twenty to make the playoffs and have that
(25:10):
first round loss, I thought that was a little bit
of an interesting way to kind of capitalize on what
you think might be a playoff team, but you don't
really think they're going to go very far in them.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
I gotta say, I've been gambling on sports since I
was like fifteen years old.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
I don't think i've ever made that bet.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
The preseason wild card loser like That's a long time
to tie up your money for plus three twenty for
a very specific outcome like that, But precedent would suggest
that that's probably a very smart wager.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
So congratulations on showing me a new way to bet
the NFL.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
The Bears, by the way, you didn't send me a
tax congratulating that they are coming off of the three
peat of three straight offseason championships. It's okay, don't worry
about it. Does the off season ever convert? Are they
an over or an under team this year?
Speaker 9 (26:05):
I think they're an under team, unfortunately, my man. Yeah,
I think they have a little too much hype in
thinking Ben Johnson's gonna turn come in right away and
completely turn them around. I remember you still as much
as it was high as not high as I am
on the Vikings, you still got the Packers, still got
the lines. It's a tough schedule, and uh it's I'm
(26:26):
still kind of taking a wait and see approach with
the with Caleb as well. So sorry to to burst
your bubble there to end the segment, but yeah, i'd
go under eight and a half there on the Bears.
I'm sorry, that's fine.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
I mean, do you have any other NFL bet you
want to give out real quick thirty seconds?
Speaker 9 (26:40):
I think the divide the reports of the demise of
the Kansas City Chiefs are a little exaggerated, and this
is not my co host Jeff Schwartz, mister Chieka being
in my ear. I think they solved a lot of
problems on the offensive line with Simmons. I think you
have a healthy year of wide receivers, a healthy year
at running back. Defensively, I think they'll be better. Obviously, Again,
(27:01):
like you can bet the Chiefs to win the division
at minus one twenty, you could potentially bet Patrick Mahomes
to win the MVP at a nice number. I think
this Chiefs team is still really good, and the fact
the way they lost the Super Bowl, I think you
can see them a little bit more motivated than usually.
It's a chance to get a really good team and
a really good quarterback and a really good head coach
(27:22):
going into the year a little bit extra motivated with
a little bit of a added chip on their shoulder.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
Chris Filika, the Bear, We'll be seeing you on Big
Noon Kickoff. We'll be listening to the podcast. Thank you
for the time, my friend.
Speaker 9 (27:32):
Thanks Danny anytime.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
That's the Bear, one of the best in the business.
But I did go sixty five percent in the NFL
as you stop mentioning it.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
Oh wait, I guess I really have no one else
to blame for that.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
To myself, And it's true. The Bears are the all
hype team.
Speaker 3 (27:45):
That's what happens when you're coming off a three p
when you've won three straight off seasons, there's going to
be a tremendous.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
Amount of hype. It's an inevitability.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
I just don't know if it'll be this year, so
we'll wait and see. But there's no part to me
that has any interest in betting the under. I'm Caleb
Williams and Ben Johnson this year, it's been a very
fun show. I'll be back each of the next two
days in for Colin. Can't wait to join the cast
of First Things First regularly for this football season, which
means my longtime best friend Nick Wright will be.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
My new teammate at FtF and he'll join us tomorrow
on the herd. Danny Parkinson for Colin
