Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Back here on the Herd. Boy, what a guest do
we have right now?
Speaker 4 (00:29):
I mean, this guy was just electrifying with Do you
hear the list of quarterbacks he played with? DeShawn Jackson?
I don't know what team do you most associate with,
Deshaun Eagles?
Speaker 5 (00:39):
Yeah, man, you gotta say Eagles. When you say DeShawn Jackson,
you gotta say that, Philly green Man Eagles. Eagles Fly Fly,
Eagles Fly. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
I like them a lot this season. I'm bullish on it.
But let me start with the quarterback thing. So here's
the quarterbacks you played for, Stafford Lamar, Jalen Hurts, Kirk Cousins,
Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick, Foles, and Derek Carr.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
I would ask you to rank them, but I don't
want you forgot one.
Speaker 5 (01:01):
Maybe you forgot a few more, but Jameis Winston.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
I didn't forget him fits Pastrick. Sorry, no, thank you, Jeeves.
So who's the best quarterback? The best pure.
Speaker 4 (01:12):
Quarterback you played with and you don't have to cape
up for your buddy, just pure quarterback you played.
Speaker 5 (01:17):
Oh that's a great question, man, I play with a.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:21):
Nick Fos was in there too, I forgot.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Yeah, he won a Super Bowl. I gotta give him
a show.
Speaker 5 (01:25):
But the best quarterback, I don't know. My favorite? How
about it? Just say my favorite because I know you
said buddy, yeah, but my favorite was Michael Vick.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
We obviously growing up, you know, I looked up.
Speaker 5 (01:34):
To Michael Vick. Man. He's changed the game, He's changed
the era. You know, I had the most fun with
Michael Vick. I feel like, you know McNabb. When I
first came into the league, we made some great plays,
some deep touchdowns. But I don't know in twenty twenty eleven,
twenty twelve, and twenty thirteen, man, those those two three
years with Michael Vick, I think you know the deep plays,
you know, to start off the game in Washington eighty
(01:54):
r BONMD first played Dallas. I mean I could go
on and on the throws that Michael Vick threw to me.
So I think I have the mo was fun playing
with Michael Vick.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
I'll never forget.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
I walked into Fox one day and on the dressing room,
you know, downstairs, it said Michael Vick Jason mcintyren.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
I was like, what, Oh my god, it was so
I walk in. I was like a little nervous. I
was a huge vic fan growing up, you know. But
so let me ask.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
I also think your punt return against the Giants is
one of the one of the coolest plays I've ever
seen to win the game at the buzzer.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Where are you on the Giants? You hate them?
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Right?
Speaker 5 (02:26):
I don't. It's not necessarily me hating the Johnts. I
think the Giants hate me. I mean every everywhere I go, Like,
if you're a Giants fan, don't let me be in
New York. They like, man, they can't stand me for
me personally, man, I like, I definitely hated playing the
Cowboys more than the Giants. I mean in the NFC East.
I mean, obviously, you know we have rivals, the Commanders,
(02:47):
which they wasn't that name when I was playing. You
have them? Then you have, I mean, not Chicago, I'm
sorry you have the Giants, and then Dallas. I mean
I had more games, heated games with the Cowboys than anybody.
So I mean, I I think that when we played
the Washington team too, Laurn Landry, we got an heat.
I don't know if you remember that before before the game,
he said some I ain't gonna say on TV he says, no,
(03:09):
he said some crazy things to me, you know, before
that game, and it was like very personal. I was like, man,
you're really gonna say that. So we we didn't have
some heat and mamas versus the versus the commanders.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Did you even know him?
Speaker 5 (03:20):
Nah, We personally didn't know each other. And I played
against him a lot, but I never like personally had
a relationship with him. So when he said what he
said before that game, I almost was ready to take
off my uniform and throw them.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
So he was like, don't come across the middle. Because
he was a hard hitter, right, yeah, he was.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
He was definitely a hard hitter. But I mean, you
know one thing about Laurn, he you know, he played
you know, some great years in Washington. Obviously he played
the l s U, so he had he's coming from
that culture and that that nature that they're physical, hard hitting.
But it's like you just within the game. It's like,
don't get too disrespectful. I think the comment he said
to me before the game was a little too disrespect.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Okay, let me ask this.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
H I opened the show talking about Lamar Jackson and
how like, listen, man, I get it, small sample size
six playoff games. He's been kind of bad in the
playoffs and numbers say so for sure, but like nobody's
asking him the tough questions, and I gotta ask you this, like,
why isn't Lamar Jackson winning in the playoffs?
Speaker 5 (04:11):
That's the tough question. Dashaun Jackson got to answer him.
I would, honestly, I personally know Lamar, and uh, one
thing I can say about him. He's very personal. I
mean I think he he has the airs to win.
I mean, I think he wants to win. I know
how hard he works as far as putting it in
on the field, and a lot of people are he's misunderstood.
And I feel like throughout my crowd's misunderstood a lot
(04:32):
as well too. You know, people don't really understand you
because you know the way he was raised the way
he grew up. But at the end of day, he
plays backyard football. I mean he might not be all
the you know, read the right reason, make the right throws,
but when it comes down to it in the games
on the line, I feel like besides the playoffs, he's
you know, two and three in the playoffs. He hasn't
really quite you know, managed that in the playoffs yet.
But you know he's still you know, he's still he's
(04:52):
you know, he's still. Yeah, he's twenty seven. I mean
he's still. But he's going on the seventh eighth year
in the league. So I think, you know, give give
him a little more time. He don't got that much time,
but just give him a little more time. But I
just think, man, just go out there and play Fredy
the more. I mean, I got a great relationship with you, man.
I know how much you want to win. I know
how much you want to bring a championship to Baltimore.
It's deserving. So I just think at the end of
the day, the pressure, you know, pressure bust price, man.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
Like you say, play freely and like that Cam Newton,
my guy, who we are whatever, you know.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
He played freely and he was like injuries caught up
with him by like thirty two.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
He's out of the league, right, And like when you're
like Lamar twenty seventies turning twenty eight in January, it's like,
how many more years does he? Like Josh Allen's taking
a lot of hits, He's starting to pull it back.
It's just I wonder these running quarterbacks. You know, you
play with a bunch of them. You know, some of
these hits they take, they're not built.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
Like one thing I would say Lamar Jackson, I don't
really think he takes a lot of hits. And the
reason why I say that because you know, I played
with Michael Vick and we used to me, me and
Shady and Jerry mcklan. We used to always tell Mike, like, bro,
you got to learn how to slide, like Vick cannot slide.
We was at practice and we treated I played basketball
run up, so we used to try to teach him
how to slide. He couldn't slide. To say, it was
like one thing I would say about Lamar, Lamar knows
(06:02):
how to like not take a hit. And it was
it was mind bothering to me cause I'm like, wow,
like I was watching them play. I played the whole
year with him, and he just really wouldn't take a hit.
And the game he got hurt when he hurt his knee,
it was actually off of a sack and his knee
kind of got like caught in a weird way. But
as far as you know, I don't think he's injury prone.
Like I mean, he's suffered a few injuries, but at
the end of the day, I mean, he does know
(06:24):
how to not take a hit. So these other guys
you're talking about, Cam Newton and all these other guys,
I mean, they're bigger, and you know, they that was
their structure of play. But Lamar, that's he doesn't want
to get hit and like a lot of times he
doesn't get hit. So I think he has the edge
on not getting hit and you know, being able to
stay healthy. Uh you know.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Let me go to the Pittsburgh Steelers and I was
critical of Mike Tomlin and there's there's Steelers fans. They're
passionate and they're all spling, you know, showing this is
an offensive lead now. And the Steelers have spending a
ton of money on defense. They're the oldest defense.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
You said, the offense elite.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
I don't think it's elite.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
I mean I thought you said they were, well, the
defense has been good, but in the.
Speaker 5 (06:59):
Outside that the offense was elite.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Oh hell wow, Sorry that was that was harsh.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
By the way, Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, who you
got a quarterback for them?
Speaker 5 (07:07):
A man? Honestly, I like I like Russell Wilson. I
think the past few years has been a struggle. He's
kind of on a decline a little bit. But I mean,
just with the the that deep I mean that offense,
I think you gotta go young. I mean, if I'm
Mike Tomlan, I know he's a defensive guy, but you
have to go with the morale of the team, and
the morale of the team is young, and I just
think I'm Ana Bill Young because at the end of
(07:27):
the day, if I start Russell Wilson, and don't get
me wrong, I like Russell Wilson, but if you start
him and then now you have the locker room, it's
like you can't go back to like going back to Russell.
If you put Fields in, it's like, now I could
build my team around the youth and the young and
we can add pieces to the puzzle. So I feel
like just coming out the gates. I mean, if you're
(07:48):
gonna go with Russell, you can't bring it back in
if if you go to Fields and then what you're
gonna put Russell back in? So start youth. I like
the youth man, let's build around Field. What is he
twenty six?
Speaker 3 (07:59):
He's young?
Speaker 4 (08:00):
But so why it's weird they went after Russ early.
I get it, yeah, and then Fields was out there like, oh,
we'll take him too.
Speaker 6 (08:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (08:07):
See it's almost like, you know, it's that old saying,
like you always want that girl, right, and then you
get that girl and then dang. The girl that I
already wanted was in a relationship, but now she's single,
So I already I really didn't want her. I just
got her because that was what was out there. So
the one I already wanted is is single now, so
I'm a really, you know what, things ain't working, I'm
gonna go get the other one. So I think it
(08:28):
was just like a marriage that almost just wasn't quite
ready at the time.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one. And the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
Yeah, I know you obviously have a budding media career.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Have you ever thought about going and coaching or front
office or scouting any of that? Does that appeal to
you at all?
Speaker 5 (08:47):
Man, I'm just living life. I'm blessed. Man, I'm you know,
having some great opportunities to you know, put my face
out here and just kind of just, you know, give
a critique about the game. I feel like I know
the game pretty well and played at a high level.
So I just from my perspective, man, I love ball
and you know, I just want to give my insight
on it. But coaching is a is definitely a vision
of mine. I just the time right now, fresh two years,
(09:09):
you know, I'm that's my second year out, So to
go coach in college or the NFL right now is
not what I want to do. I want my time.
But I'm actually coaching high school football and lombaest right
now too, So it's just kind of fun. Offensive coordinator.
So first game is tomorrow, Man, I'm gonna go out
there and.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
What I gotta ask, what's like the offensive philosophy you guys,
Air Raid?
Speaker 5 (09:27):
Great question, Great question. So I kind of implemented like
the old Andy Reid with a Marty morning Wig to
a little bit of McVeigh. You know, I got it's
a pro style, you know, open spread. But you know
one thing about me, I'm a passing you know, I'm
a receiver, right, so I'm big on passing, But I'm
implementing the run. Man. A lot of guys wouldn't know
that I'm implementing the run. Dshana. That's to implement the run.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
So pass first, That's where the NFL is, That's where
right it is. Okay, So what do you make of
like the Ravens going after Derrick Henry?
Speaker 5 (09:57):
I love it? Oh come on, I mean, honestly, you
gotta think the raven style of football is run first.
I looked at it last year, right in twenty twenty three.
It was thirteen and three. Right, they did amazing during
the regular season. What did they do when they got
to the AFC title against They went away from everything.
They was averaging I think thirty two to thirty five
Russias per game. And then you get to the playoff
(10:17):
game versus a guy like Patrick Mahons and you want
Lamar Jackson the outthrow. Patrick Mahomes. That just doesn't make sense.
So for me, I love the addition of Derrick Henry.
You know, when they had Greg Roman all these years,
they was a run first offense, and now you have
you know, Exavier Flowers. You have guys like that. I mean,
Bateman is my boy.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
I love what's going on with him and want to
say hot seat, but like this is a proven.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
Year Injuri's haunted him a little bit in his career.
I mean, I think he's definitely a guy that when
he's healthy heat, he'll do great. And uh, you know,
I just think that this year is the make or
break year for him. But you know, man, my boy Nelly,
I actually heard it was an article that I read
that Nelly Lamar Jackson like went off on him like
like twice in one day because he like dropped some
(11:03):
long passes. I'm like, man, you know, Nelly hans Is,
it's my dog. But you know, sometimes his hands ain't
as sure they should be. But uh, I think, man,
I think the Ravens obviously, after last year, I think
they got to come back this year. They gotta go
to the super Bowl this year. Man, they have to.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
Bro they lost three offensive Linemen.
Speaker 5 (11:18):
I mean I understand that, but you bring Derrick Henry
in there, I mean you have you have come on
Derek Henry, the rust of the.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
Yeam fel and Dereck Henry he had last year.
Speaker 5 (11:29):
In Tennessee. You see A J. Brown wanted to get
out of here. Yes, I mean that's that's taking down.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
Feel like you're plugged in with a lot of the players.
Speaker 5 (11:37):
They stuff that you might not know, they might not
This is.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
Why we got you on here. Let me let me
take a shot here. What's going on with the Raiders
and Peers and Adams. We're gonna see Devanta Adams as
for a trader anytime soon.
Speaker 5 (11:49):
Man, I think he'll sit put this year. I think
this year is a huge year. I mean, you know,
you got guarder man shoot that's actually been named the
starter quarterback. This year is going to be tough. I
think you know, they don't they don't have the quarterback
that they want. I know they wanted to get a
quarterback in that in that draft, and they couldn't get
their guys, so obviously they it kind of defaulted to
who they have. This one's tough because you know, me
(12:11):
and Davantae we've talked and and you know, man, I
don't I hate to do it because I don't want
to be the guy that's like, oh d Jack said
this and said that. But at the end of the
day he is unhappy. I mean, you go from Aaron Rodgers,
then you come to the Las Vegas Raiders. Now not
only Jimmy g you had you had your boy car
this right car. It didn't really work out that you thought,
(12:31):
you know, from the from the Fresno the Fresno State days.
You think they would come back and work everything out.
And it's just like it just quite didn't work out.
So now I just don't think he's really that happy there.
So this year, I mean, where you gonna get your
production from? Are you? Are you believing? And Gardner like that?
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Not really. But let's say they're two and six. Do
you think he said, guy, come on, we're going.
Speaker 5 (12:50):
To do I'm gonna throw the deuces. Man, I gotta
get out of here. And you know one thing about him,
and he's see, Davante is really a nice guy. And
when I say a nice guy, he doesn't want to
be all in the media going crazy and stuff like that.
But you can see sometimes in the games. He's getting
very frustrated. Yeah, it's hard for a top receiver and
a guy that's proven like that to sit there and
just not express yourself. So I think this year, like
(13:10):
you said, if they go to on six, it's gonna
it's gonna be something coming out over here.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
Ruffle any more, Feathers. Well, what's going on with the
ladys with CD Lamb are you texting him?
Speaker 5 (13:18):
Yeah? CD man. One thing I'll say about CD. He
working his butt off right now. He's working his tail off,
and uh, it's deserving, Like, why not pay CD man?
Come on, Jerry, I don't understand. I think Jerry's just
trying to play hard right now because you know it's
Jerry's real So at the end of the day, without
without your boy CD, there, without eighty eight there, Dak, Dak.
I'm sorry, man. I know you want the contract and
I know it's deserving, but I mean, like, Dak, if
(13:40):
you go get paid right now, if i'm Dak, I'm like,
you know what, take care of my boy first. We'll
figure out me after that. Because if that go get
paid right now, CD is not in the building, who
are we Brandon Cooks, You've been a baller. You've done
some great things. You got turping, you got a few
other Who are we do Zeke Elliott? Are we just
gonna hand it to Zeke Elliott? I mean, come on, Ferguson,
I mean, you got the tight end. But I mean,
I'm just what are we gonna do here?
Speaker 4 (14:01):
It doesn't it doesn't look good for Dallas, I guess,
so stick with the Detroit Lions. So I mean, I'm
not I'm just gonna put this out there. They're great
at the number one receiver. I'm around Saint bron after that.
You know, I like Josh Reynolds, who Josh Renolds pretty good.
They had a tough drop against the Niners. They don't
really have a two. Is there a world where they
are looking good? Let's go all in, Let's trade for
(14:21):
Devonte Adams, Let's give up a future one like they're close.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
Man, your prediction right there, I mean, if it's possible.
I don't I don't know what what their draft picks
look like or what their financially situation looks like. But
I mean, if if you could pull that off, I
mean that that makes them because I mean they was
in the NFC championship game last year. I think that
makes them I mean, they're still a Super Bowl contender.
I would think I think that will put them over
the edge if they were to pull off that move
right there. So, I mean, that's that's bold. I like it.
(14:47):
I didn't think of that when I was both.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
Here's another one. So again, this is you are inside
the lock you know all this thing. So I watched
I bet on the Niners a lot last year. They
want me a lot of money. Yeah, when they come
out of the tunnel before games, it's Trent Williams and
Deebo Samuel leading the way, dancing, getting everybody hype. Chase
Young was in there now he's gone, Yeah, I see
all this talk to Sean. Oh, well, just Deebo Samuel's expendable.
(15:09):
I don't know, man, if he's the alpha in that
locker room with Trent Williams, how can you part with
him and tell me, like your experiences in Philly, who's
leading out of the tunnel and is there something to
that that that's like the alpha in the locker room.
Speaker 5 (15:20):
Yeah, I definitely like that point on that. I mean,
as far as the alpha in the locker room, I
would definitely say it's it's Debo and it's Trent Williams.
I think they're Their relationship is is definitely. You know,
they hang out in the off season, they're they're they're
chilling there, taking trips, They're on a private jet together.
You know, they spend a lot of time together. So
I think without Trent being there right now, Deebo's like, man,
(15:42):
my boy's not here. So you know, some insights on
Trim Williams. I've been talking to him a little bit too.
I think they're gonna figure it out and get him
in that building, man, because you know, without your left tackle, man,
it's gonna be hard for us.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
He taking a little extended break here.
Speaker 5 (15:53):
See one thing, you gotta think, Trent Williams been here before.
He held out a whole season.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
Is he working out or is he sitting on the couch?
Speaker 5 (15:59):
Trust Trent Williams. He's a freaking nature And I think
at the end of the day, man, he just wants
another two or three years. Man, he wants to lock
it up. He wants to just go be the best
he can be.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
Man.
Speaker 5 (16:07):
He's played a lot. You know, he's been through a
lot in his career. You know, with the surgery and
things like that. So I definitely think it'll work out.
But going back to the question, I think Deebo, I mean,
he's your guy. Even though people say brand now Ayuka
is the true number one wide receiver. I just think
the gadgets and just you know, everything Debo brings to
that team, he just makes that team. He makes that
team special without Debo in that locker room. Like if
(16:29):
you don't have Debo and you just have Brandon Nowyk.
I'm not saying they're not as good, but it just
it's a difference, you know what I'm saying. So at
the end of the day, I think they all stay together. Man,
just Brandwyk. I don't know, Man, just go play out
that eleven million they gave you and just figure it
out after that. I mean, bet on yourself. Almost you
know what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
They're telling me we got to wrap up. But because
you went to cal and I'm a Jets fan, I
was born in New York. I got to ask about
Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
What you're gonna ask he playing the last preseason game.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
No, no, no, no, I'm not.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
I was about to say, first of all, do you
know him at all, and I don't know this whole
Like he's into conspiracy theories and he's like, looks keep
everything football and then goes on all these podcasts and
talk politics.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
I'm just curious.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Were you ever in a locker room where there was
some leader and he was just talking about a lot
of non football stuff and you were just like, I
can't vibe with this guy.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
How does that work. I'm just trying to.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
Get in the Jets' locker room and understand what's happening there.
Speaker 5 (17:22):
Yeah, I mean, I think their relationship with the head
coach Salaz that that relationship is a little shaky. Honestly.
I just I don't really see them really merging together.
I know Sata's having a lot of pressure from you know,
the owners and the general measures to get their starting
quarterback out there playing. But at the end of the day,
I mean, this is Aaron Rodgers we're talking about here,
you know what I'm saying. And I think the Aaron
(17:43):
Rodgers that we've known to see, I think he'll be
that this year for that team. And I know the pressures.
They haven't been to the playoffs since twenty ten. We
get it. He has a lot of pressure. Robert Saler
has a lot of pressure from the head of the organization.
But at the end of the day, Aaron Rodgers will
be the guy we know him to be this year.
And I feel like I'm a bit if I got
any money, I'm a bet on Aaron Rodgers this year.
When he's forty forty one, I'm betting on Aaron Rodgers.
(18:05):
So the Jets, y'all, stay calm, y'all, stay patient. It's
gonna work out. We don't need to see Aaron Rodgers
in the last preseason game. Hold on up. Robert just
focused on defense that a rod focused on office.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
So I know you're a new TV guy obviously, right,
he played in the league recently.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
But these insights, this is something the top level stuf.
Speaker 5 (18:22):
Yeah. See, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
I'm said the word shaky quarterback and head coach, shaky
coach on my hot se.
Speaker 5 (18:27):
Quarter Why do you call out your quarterback? You find
him already, you did everything. I mean at the end
of the day, do you really think Aaron Rodgers didn't
tell him he was gonna miss the mandatory camp like
you just think he blew it off and said, you
know what, Robert I don't respect you enough. I'm not
even gonna tell you that I'm about to miss mandatory camps.
So I feel like you gotta protect your guy. Why
not going to media and protect him? You know, we
(18:47):
talked about it. Aaron said he couldn't be here, he
had personal whatever the case may be. But I just
it's mind bothering because I know Indy Reid, I know
seanman Bay, I know a lot of great coaches. If
I go tell my coach, I got something going on,
regardless if you like it or you're okay with her
or not, you have to give me some respect.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
So why didn't he do that?
Speaker 5 (19:05):
That's my point is shake.
Speaker 4 (19:09):
Man?
Speaker 5 (19:09):
My boy? Hey ro he gonna bought this year though, man.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
DeShawn Jackson, Oh my gosh, that was tremendous. All right,
we have to go to break, I'm told now.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
No, no, no, turn on the news. This is the
Herdline News.
Speaker 7 (20:49):
All right, Well, let's start in the NFC South, because
Baker Mayfield got a deal this year after playing for
four teams over the last three seasons, but surprised everyone
when you let the Bucks to a division title in
his first season with the team. Now this week is
running back with Sean White said that Baker has slimmed
down since last year and looks like an action figure. Now,
(21:12):
obviously we've seen we've seen the progression of Baker Mayfield
and he's definitely matured a lot since his Cleveland days.
I always find it funny when it becomes a new
story that an athlete is in shape, when it is
your job to be in shape. But I am. I'm
happy for Baker. Like I said, it's four teams, like
(21:35):
over three seasons. Crazy, he finally found his home. He
got paid three years, one hundred million dollars. Like he
went nine to eight with the Bucks and won the
NFC South. Like it's I think he's gonna be good
again this year.
Speaker 4 (21:53):
The offensive coordinator Dave Canalis left to go to Carolina
that obviously her put.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Yeah, Baker has been tremendous. What does act figure?
Speaker 2 (22:00):
Is that about?
Speaker 7 (22:01):
Like a shapeless chis like you're in a in great shape?
Speaker 3 (22:04):
How do I get to be an action figure?
Speaker 5 (22:06):
Looking?
Speaker 7 (22:07):
Haven't you watched like I remember, like Chris Pratt was
posting stuff like you were on an insane diet, Like
you have to cut a lot of out, cut all
that stuff out, strict protein, working out a ton like
I just.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Crushed a gyro or like twenty minutes ago.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
That's not going to work toward action figure body Gyro,
euro Hero Cairo.
Speaker 7 (22:24):
I don't know, I say, I think it's so comical
that you like crush your lunch like midshell.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Oh, I don't do breakfast. I'm trying to what do
they call it the interpass fasting?
Speaker 8 (22:34):
Right?
Speaker 3 (22:34):
So I didn't eat since like seven o'clock left, you know,
like trying to act off anyways during nerves?
Speaker 5 (22:39):
Good for you?
Speaker 7 (22:40):
Do you think you'll have the same kind of success
though this year? Can you build off of that?
Speaker 3 (22:43):
Back to the playoffs?
Speaker 7 (22:44):
Baker? Baker in the Bucks.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
No, oh sorry, I mean they'll be serviceable but not playoffs.
Speaker 7 (22:50):
That's okay, Yeah, I kind of a six team. No, no, no, no.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
You think you're a playoff team. What about the Falcons
and Falcons? I don't know.
Speaker 7 (22:59):
I don't think the same. They are going to do great.
I think it's going to between the Bucks and the Falcons.
And again, Falcons is going to be like, what's the
quarterback situation going to be? Can they can they do
something with that? They're rich at quarterback, So yeah, I
think it's going to be between the Bucks and the
Falcons for the NFC South, Okay, fair enough, but uh,
(23:21):
let's move to another team that didn't have a great
last season a little shakey coming in this year. The
Patriots quarterback competition won't be decided until next week, but
head coach Dronmeo said this week that rookie Drake May
is one hundred ready to run an NFL huddle now. Yesterday,
on The Herd NFL FIM's Legend, Greg Cosell had high
praise for Drake.
Speaker 8 (23:43):
I'm not sure he's at quite as raw as people think.
He had a few things he has to clean up.
He tended to drift to his left in the pocket,
and that you have to clean up in the National
Football League because otherwise you create your own pressure. I
got a chance to speak to some coaches at North
Carolina where he played, and you know, they told me,
in their mind, there is no bust factor at all
(24:04):
with Drake May. That you have to know the kid,
know the way he works, know how he sees the game,
know how his teammates respawn. So I like Drake May.
I thought he was the toolsiest quarterback in this draft
column because I got a chance to stand next to him.
I don't know if you've ever seen him in person,
but he's a big dude, and that is a trait.
Speaker 7 (24:24):
The Patriots still need a lot of help and a
lot of other places on their team. And if May
is your future, would you throw him out there and
start him in Week one without a strong protection?
Speaker 3 (24:36):
This is tough.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
I like Drake May a lot, but he can thrive
in this league. I don't like him in New England.
I mean the stuff that's coming out where Jacoby Brissetts like,
I view myself as the number one guy, even though
they haven't said it, like what are we doing? It's
like this team stinks, but of line is a joke, Alex.
Speaker 7 (24:54):
Yeah, they went what four and thirteen last season? Like
they haven't that was with Belichick. They haven't been good
since Brady left.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
But they got they got to the playoffs once. But yeah,
that's accurate. It's tough to stay on top forever.
Speaker 7 (25:06):
Twenty nine and thirty eight in four seasons since Brady left,
oh and wand playoffs, right, Yeah, it's just they haven't
really moved on from it. Right, even like this last
season offseason they had his retirement of his jersey, it
was still like all about Brady this last year and
there hasn't fully been this like new wave now it is.
(25:27):
This is the first season without Brady or Belichick and
the dynasty that was the Patriots when they were there.
So this is it's again they have a lot of
holes to fill. There was a lot of questions if
they were going to take a Drake may or trade
down to get more picks and build up the rest
of the team that they need. They still need protection.
They have a lot of holes on this team. So
(25:50):
it's it's going to be interesting. Who are you taking
Week one.
Speaker 3 (25:54):
A Bengals favored by nine. I think you got to
hammer that numb.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
Yeah, but assuming Jamar Chase is back, Yeah, you don't
love to lay the lumber with big favorites. But I
just I don't view the Patriots, I mean, defensively, no
bar more trade Judon, Like, come on, that's two of
your best four defenders.
Speaker 3 (26:09):
What do we do?
Speaker 4 (26:10):
You're gonna get pressure with Burrow and Burrow without them,
And the offensive line is so banged up, sounds like
it might start a rookie or two on the offensive line,
Like what, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
I just I don't step.
Speaker 7 (26:21):
And they're in a tough division.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
Yeah, they got to deal with the Jets twice. Jets
are sweeping. I was almost gonna say a bad word,
but you Yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
And the Buffalo Bills are good in Miami's house.
Speaker 7 (26:35):
They paid all their guys. They're ready to go. They're
feeling confident.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
Patriots fans had a twenty year run of success. Can
we let someone else get a chance. Can we just
let someone else have a shot.
Speaker 7 (26:45):
It's never easy after a dynasty. Again, as we were
talking earlier, as we're kind of slowly seeing with Golden State,
the end of a die dynasty is never easy Chicago Bulls.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Michael Jordan's done since Yeah, it's tough, not a damn.
Speaker 7 (26:59):
Thing, It's tough, all right. Well, let's wrap things up
with some fantastic news. College football is back this weekend.
Tenth rank Florida State will take on accfoe Georgia Tech
in Ireland. Now, college football is going to look very
different this season with all of the changes. You have USC, UCLA, Oregon,
Washington joining the Big Ten, Texas and Oklahoma joined the SEC.
(27:21):
First season of the twelve team playoff, we got big
new kicking off on Fox next weekend. What are you
most looking forward to with all of the changes this
college football?
Speaker 4 (27:32):
Obviously the playoff, but most I want to win my
bet on FSCU well, assuming God to lay it with FSU.
So the number was thirteen and a half and for
whatever reason, Georgia Tech is taking on money.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
The line's down to ten. If it dips under ten.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
Alex, Yeah, we're putting a paycheck, probably on FSU at
nine and a half. I'm not doing ten, I know. Listen,
you gotta go. You gotta start the season.
Speaker 7 (27:54):
I mean, nineteen of their last twenty games dating back
to the awesome last.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Year if you take out the bowl game, they were well.
Speaker 7 (28:02):
And then the polks did like, we didn't make we
were defeated. Why didn't we make it into the college playoffs?
And then they get what blown out sixty three to three?
Speaker 3 (28:09):
Yeah in that game.
Speaker 4 (28:11):
Well, FSU fans hated me for saying for a while
they do not belong in the playoffs without Jordan Travis. Yeah,
and now I'm trying to congender goodwill by saying FSU
beats out beats Georgia Tech.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
I like Dju the kid. This is third school. I
thought he was going to be awesome after he started Clemson,
but it hasn't quite panned out.
Speaker 7 (28:28):
Yeah, this is gonna be a fun college.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
It's a good season. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (28:31):
Different, different for LA fans, especially with UCLA and USC
now in the Big Ten.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
Yeah, strange you're going to a Big ten country. I
am Alex Curry with the News.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
Herd Line News, solid show. I guess Alex.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
By the way, I should just ask you do you
like what I say Alex Curry with the News or
just Alex.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
You can say Alex Curry, I like them.
Speaker 7 (28:59):
Whatever you I love you start to show Hey it's
me Jason McIntire. I think I'm like, hey, it's me
you Mario every time.
Speaker 4 (29:05):
Wait, wait, do you think I don't know that everybody
automatically knows me? I mean I like to think I'm
a big deal, you know, but I don't.
Speaker 3 (29:11):
Know that everybody knows who I am.
Speaker 7 (29:13):
Yeah, that's okay, it's great.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
I want to be I want to be rich and anonymous,
not rich and famous. Oh don't you.
Speaker 7 (29:20):
Joy and I have had this conversation. Oh yeah, wait,
how was this a conversation?
Speaker 3 (29:24):
Do you want to be famous?
Speaker 2 (29:25):
No?
Speaker 7 (29:25):
No, no, no, no, Like what would you prefer, like
be known and like be well off or well off
and like not be known.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
I want to be well off and not be known.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
Yeah, I mean, like I think most people. I don't
mind going to Dick's Sporting Goods and go hey j Mack.
You know my kids laugh.
Speaker 7 (29:40):
But like I keep introducing yourself, I'm friendly to anybody
I know, and I don't get a lot of hecklers.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
Do you get I'll bring this up to you off air.
Something funny. Someone said, you have some big fans out there.
Let's just say, yeah, yeah, I know that all right,
I'm back tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
Alex is gallivanting in the Midwest, so I'm roller Ryan Music. Oh,
we're gonna we're gonna get in some trouble tomorrow. Ladies
and gentlemen, it's a great show. We'll see you Manyana
