Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Well, it's that.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Time of the year when you hear things some good
some bad fan bases get very mad at reporters when
they don't give you rainbows and birds chirping and a
pot of gold at the end of every little video clip.
Diana Russini knows that all too well, senior NFL insiders
for the athletic cover.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
In the NFL for a decade now.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
So I started my show today saying, listen to these
video clips. They all mean something, they all mean something,
but I'm gonna start with Micah Parsons. So he said,
I don't want to be a cowboy anymore. That's pretty
you know. It's funny because he was the twelfth pick.
He's actually still a top five or six cap hit
for defensive end. Like he's been well compensated. It's not
(01:09):
like Terry McLaurin, where he's wildly overproduced for his draft spot,
never made big money, and he's a Pro Bowl lever
level Hall of Fame level player. Were you surprised that
Micah said I'm done being a cowboy? Did it surprise you?
Speaker 4 (01:24):
No, Because it's one of those things you talk about
how you hear things. I'd heard early last week that
Micah had in his draft fold or this letter. So
I'd spoken to some people with other teams, and apparently
it was out there that come the second week or
third week of training camp, something was going to go down,
(01:47):
that they were going to make.
Speaker 5 (01:48):
A bold move.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
And Friday afternoon was that bold move Colin. Even even
Friday morning, I had reported that the relationship between Jerry
Jones and Micah Parsons was so damaged that a trade
could be on the table, And I mean everyone responded
wildly because you don't ask for Dallas Cowboy players don't
(02:10):
ask for.
Speaker 5 (02:11):
Trades, right, that doesn't happen. We see it almost in
every other organization. It's just you don't do that.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Everyone wants to be a Dallas Cowboy because of what
it provides you as a player, not just when you
are currently, you know, playing the game of football with
the star in your helmet, but life afterwards. So a
few hours later, Micah posts the note and look, I.
Speaker 5 (02:33):
Think it was stunning just because.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
It's unheard of there, but in terms of the negotiations
and where they're at, Michael laid it out pretty well.
And you know, most people know what happened here with
the conversation that he thought was just discussing numbers and
a contract between the owner and him, not some binding
deal that was going to be permanent, you know.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
So then of course when his agent finds out about.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
This, he's like, no, you're not negotiating with Jerry Jones.
Speaker 5 (03:02):
We're doing this now.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
A lot of people have been pushing back on well,
Micah had that conversation with Jerry right like, he chose
to discuss it. He sat there. He's a grown man.
He understands what's happening. And so I asked somebody in
the league about Dak, like, how did Dak handle that?
You know, because Jerry's known to do this, to go
(03:23):
to a star players and talk about a deal, whether
it's Zach mart and Tony Roman. We've heard tons of
stories of him doing this and Dak said, I'll talk
to you, but I'm not talking numbers. Call Todd France,
my agent, Call my agent, right. So Micah had an
opportunity to do that, but he didn't do it.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
And so I think that's the.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Cowboys perspective on this of it's not like we held
you to the fire and say your feet to the
fire and say you must do this, you want to
engage with us, whereas, of course the Michael Parsons side
to it. You know what that is in terms of
just my agent needs to be part of this. And
because of that, to me, this this says Jerry versus
Micah as extreme as extreme as it comes.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
So here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
It's not that I haven't been burned by a source
in my life, because sometimes people get bad information, but
by and large I trust people, and I've had many
of the same pro football sources for a long time.
And what I hear about JJ McCarthy isn't what I
hear like the sometimes reported there is this almost protective
(04:30):
bubble or sort of an elevation of what he's doing,
and it's not what I'm hearing that there are real
concerns from last year on and again I so my
stuff is running counter to mostly what I hear. I mean,
I'm not asking you to divulge everything, but I feel
(04:50):
like in this one, and I said this before the draft,
I wasn't hearing teams were rushing to get JJ McCarthy.
I knew two teams that wanted to move up from
Michael Pennox. I knew one that wanted to do move
up for Drake May and I didn't hear anybody moving
up for bon Nix. Sean Payton loved him, and that's
about he felt the way should But what I am
(05:11):
marrying on JJ McCarthy would not instill confidence. Do have
a bad source? I mean, what do you make of
the whole elevation of these stories that hey, he's be patient,
he's hitting it.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Where are we on that?
Speaker 5 (05:23):
Well, first, let's go with what I can tell you.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
Alec Lewis, the athletic Vikings reporter shares with me because
I talked to him pretty regularly, and it sounds like
it's just up and down right, So there's some good,
there's some bad.
Speaker 5 (05:34):
So you know, to that idea.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
That the bad clips don't need anything, I'm with you.
It means something, you know, At the same time, I've
had coaches tell me when I used to be more
of a beat reporter that sometimes you don't even know
what we're doing. There's a reason why we're doing the
certain things that we're doing it, and you guys are
just not informed. But that being said, I think what
you're pointing to it sounds like what you've noticed is
(05:56):
maybe something that I've noticed too, is there is a
lot of lifting up of JJ McCarthy, right, And some
of that's good because you want to give this young
quarterback coming off a very serious injury, who obviously struggled
with sitting out right.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
We saw the fact that he lost all that weight.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
And I know the Vikings don't want to make a
big thing of that because that's just a part of
the process of dealing with a significant injury.
Speaker 5 (06:23):
But it's also difficult to be.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
Sitting there when you're supposed to be the guy, and
Sam Donald's out there at one point looking like the
star of the show, right, And then you have an
organization who makes the decision to let Sam Donald walk.
Speaker 5 (06:36):
They want to keep.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
Daniel Jones, but they don't want to pay what Daniel
Jones wants because Daniel Jones wants to be the guy.
Speaker 5 (06:42):
Right.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
Those guys left Minnesota for a reason because it was
made very clear to them no matter what, JJ McCarthy
is the guy.
Speaker 5 (06:50):
So what is it?
Speaker 4 (06:51):
Is it because Kevin O'Connell truly believes that JJ is
this superb cue who's going to come in here and
turn this organ around him where they finally got their guy?
I mean possibly, is it just because of what they
did in the draft for him? Is it because they
need these moves to get JJ McCarthy? Is there an
ownership influence here? So there's always a lot of factors
(07:13):
to your point. But I think to just suc succinctly
answer your question, do I think JJ McCarthy is wowing
everyone at training camp?
Speaker 5 (07:22):
No, I don't. I think he's fine.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
I still think Justin Jefferson told me what I needed
to know when he spoke to the media before his
injury and was like, essentially everyone needs to slow down here,
like he is still learning and we have to be
able to give him some of this grace here. So
while yes, I get why the organization is going, oh
(07:46):
my gosh, JJ McCarty, And if you follow anything Vikings related,
you would.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
Think this guy is the next biggest.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Quarterback to play, and I think they're gonna be just
disappointed because there's going to be a natural period of
time time where he's just got to catch up and
feel comfortable in this offense.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
So I'm with you. I'm just I'm not bought in
all the way.
Speaker 4 (08:08):
I just think there's just gonna be some time here
before we can get to a point where we can
have a serious conversation here and go is he the
guy or not?
Speaker 5 (08:17):
Now it's different than when I was in Denver.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Right, there's no question mark who bonis is, what he is,
how they believe in them. They're doing the same stuff
of building him up, but there's more proof there. Right,
We've seen it, We've seen the talent, and even having
conversations with Bonicks, you hear it, you hear the confidence.
You can understand that he's taking a step forward here
in getting what he's being asked of from Champagne.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
By the way, it's interesting last year dan Quinn was
just overwhelmingly impressed with Jaden Daniels. Coaches kind of suppress
comments in camp, so you knew Jaden Daniels was something.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
It was the same thing with Andrew Luck.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
You know, when I forget the coach, was it Pegano
or Bruce arians whoever it was, they were just saying,
and oh, this Andrew Luck kid from Stanford. This is insane.
Sean Payton, from what I can tell, can't help himself
with this Denver roster. I mean you were there, I
mean he is. I think he loves this team, and
I don't think it's false optimism.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
You just spent time with him.
Speaker 4 (09:17):
Yeah, I think that's a good point to be made though, right,
Like some coaches are just gonna yell at you to
tell you how great their team is because there's actually
nothing there, right, and.
Speaker 5 (09:24):
It's almost like hope. I don't get that sense from Sean,
who's really smart with the media. He's got his.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
Finger on the pulse of all his locker rooms from
over the years, going back to his d's in New Orleans.
He knows what his team needs, and he knows that
there's some young players here and Bo is young in
developing and Grenned. I know he's twenty five and he's
got five years of college experience, but this next step
is big for him, and so I do think there's
a little bit of Sean pumping them up to let
(09:54):
bou know, like, I love you, and you're right, he's
in love with this team. But for a guy that
loves offense, and we'll talk your ear off about his quarterback,
if he loves the guy, it's his defense that he
knows is the strength of this team. Even I was
there for the first day of pads and he's like, oh,
did you see green Law out there?
Speaker 6 (10:12):
Do you see him?
Speaker 5 (10:13):
I'm like, hey, I saw him, you know.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
Because this is really the first time we've seen Denver
have a really good, you know, middle part of that
defense that from five is obviously ferocious Patrick Sartan, the
reigning defensive player of the Year.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
They've got something special and I know that.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
And you know, Colin, I asked Patrick Sirtan to rank
quarterbacks for me to just, you know, just give me
the obvious ones that we all know, and I just
want to.
Speaker 5 (10:37):
Hear where you go. And so, you know, it always
gets icy five and six, Right, we all go.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
We all start with Patrick and Lamar and Josh and
Joe and Justin right and then it's like, okay, now
we're away.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Is it?
Speaker 5 (10:49):
Jalen is it? And and Patrick stop me because I
was ready to go.
Speaker 6 (10:54):
Hurt said.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
He was the one who was like bon Nicks. I'm like,
what what like? Are you like not?
Speaker 4 (11:00):
Yeah, he's like Bonix. You will see I practice against
them every day. I'm telling you, you got to watch
Bonix this year. And most of it is just this
understanding that that Nicks has in the offense. It's just
he's really taking that step forward of getting the why
behind it, why everything they're doing.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 7 (11:26):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day

never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to.
Speaker 8 (11:35):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Yeah, you blubber list lame and me.
Speaker 7 (11:49):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 8 (11:54):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also going to
talk life and relationships. And if Rich and I are
arguing about something or we didn't have enough time, it
will continue on our after show called over Promised.
Speaker 7 (12:07):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promise and also Uncensored by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.
Speaker 8 (12:18):
There you go, over Promising. Remember you could see on YouTube,
but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with Cavino and
Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you
get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Diana Russini, Senior NFL insider, I can tell you've been
a camp. You got the nice summer can you're out
there working journalists. Journalism doesn't have to be in a
cold dark room where we all get pale.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
You can get out there and get get some vitamin D.
It's okay.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
This is actually this is a fun time of the
in a way, it's a fun time of the year
for all you guys, right you.
Speaker 5 (12:50):
Camp love it.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
I love everyone is op domistic.
Speaker 5 (12:55):
Players all want to do your show. They want to
talk to you. They want to discuss their their regiment
with their eating, with their plannet. Just and there's also
a lot of boredom, right, Like, guys are in camp.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Every day is the same, so just new faces is
exciting to them.
Speaker 5 (13:11):
But yeah, this is the highlight.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
And so I'm gonna lose like three shades, as you know,
by November. And you know, maybe we can get some
fake tan deal here on the show and we'll get
a sponsored segment just you know, Hollywood tans or something,
just to keep the glow.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
You know, Diane, great seniors always. I appreciate you, all right,
Diana Verssini. Camps are fun. The videos are crazy.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
By the way, did you see j mcau chador was
held out of camp Shadeur Sanders because of shoulder soreness.
That's what happens when you carry the franchise. You think
shoulders get a little sore. So there's another story out
today where they may move off a couple of their
young quarterbacks. I know they're bad. I am fascinated. It's
(13:56):
just like mystery. I don't know what they're doing in
clear the quarterback. I thought it was going to be
Flacco trade Kenny Pickett for a sixth.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Rounder and keep the young guys. Anyway, I think.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
That's your first story.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
This is the headline news.
Speaker 6 (14:17):
Yes, boy, you're getting good at this teas thing in
the business. Colin to tease. Let's start with Shador Sanders.
Obviously all eyes on the Browns. What five six, seven quarterbacks? Well,
Shadure has been held out of team drills due to
arm soreness. Now they have their first preseason game this Friday.
Shador also addressed why his dad told him not He
(14:39):
told his dad not to come to camp. Take a listen.
Speaker 9 (14:43):
I don't want him coming to see me right now
because I want to I want to get to where
I want to go in for him to see me.
I don't want him to come and see me. You know,
get a couple of reps and you know he's cheering,
like a good dad, Like, nah, you can't be proud
of me right now. I gotta get where I'm going,
and I know it's a lot I got to do
to get there. So it's kind of like I just
(15:04):
want everything that I'm doing is just like focus on
this time, and I don't want to know distraction because
we know out of media, we know how everybody would
take it and take away from the team.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
At least saying the right stuff. Yeah, sounds good.
Speaker 6 (15:19):
I am hearing a lot about a fifth round draft pick.
I think this is the most discussed fifth round quarterback
in the history of NFL football history.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
Is that fair?
Speaker 6 (15:31):
Yeah, I think you're right before he's taking a stat
in the preseason.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Well, it's also Cleveland has such a dysfunctional history at
quarterback that I think, I mean, if he was doing,
if he was with the Jags, we wouldn't Cleveland's you know,
it's one of the top ten brands. They've had so
many quarterback missteps. I think part of it's just the
environment makes it even more entering. I mean, obviously, if
your last name is Sanders and football, Yeah, I just
(15:57):
I don't know why I care so much, but I'm
into it.
Speaker 10 (15:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (16:00):
Besides Shador's shoulder soreness, Kenny Pickett, Hammy Dylan Gabriel has
been limited today due to a hamstring injury, they're just
falling apart in Cleveland. Everybody's all stressed out, they're tight,
they're trying to win the job, and now everybody's kind
of banged up. Colin. I mean, listen, you and I
are playing banged up coming off vacation, right, Yeah, I'm.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Not at one hundred percent run. I could tell, trust me,
I could tell. Let's go to college.
Speaker 6 (16:24):
Football Collin, where the preseason coaches poll was released. And
this is something of a shocker, but our first big
noon game of the week features the top two teams
in the country. Texas won, Ohio State two. Here is
the rest of the top twenty five.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Penn State.
Speaker 6 (16:41):
Who you love to go to the national championship is three,
Notre Dame five, Clemson six. Your thoughts.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
I don't know how good George is at quarterback, and
I don't know how good Ohio State is at quarterback.
I know I've seen the kid play the high school stuff.
I think Texas Penn State. I would put one in two,
probably probably Texas one, Penn State two. I'd probably put
Ohio State three. I'll tell you, Marcus Freeman has done
(17:12):
a great job at Notre Dame. He's just got great energy.
The Notre Dame has done. I didn't know what they
were going to get when Brian Kelly left. Their recruiting's better.
He's done a great job. This is a really good
Clemson team. Really, it's the best Clemson team in a
long time. They return a ton of starters. Oregon's always good,
(17:36):
Bama is always good. I like neuss Meyer, the quarterback
at LSU.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
We'll see on Miami. I don't know.
Speaker 6 (17:43):
And can we zoom out and get more than the
top ten because Colin. One team I do not see
on here is North Carolina. They did not crack the
preseason coaches Top twenty five, even though the schedule is
a joke. And my team of destiny the Texas Tech
Red Raiders checking in at twenty four. I'm just telling you,
if you are in one of these vegas or a
gambling city and you want to put some couple bucks
(18:05):
on a team, keep an eye on Texas Tech.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
I will add.
Speaker 6 (18:10):
South Carolina is thirteen. We were vacationing. We ran into
a couple for They go to every South Carolina game.
Their whole fall revolves around South Carolina. They are terrified
of the Clemson game. I guess in the Deep South
right now, everybody's hyping your Clemson Tigers They're good as
a stack team because the quarterback is back and the
defensive line is loaded. I need to see it Colinas.
(18:33):
I've heard about Clemson last few years. They've been disappointing.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
I've got added three transfer portal guys this year, which
is more than they'd added in the previous like five years.
Like they don't do the transfer portal, and I think
Daboll looked at it and thought, we got a chance
to win a Natty, we better clean some stuff up.
But it's a I mean, Clemson's a great brand. I
think I've said this before. I think Penn State's backfield
(18:58):
is insane, and I think Texas's roster is insane. I
may think Ohio State's the best team in the country.
I have to watch the opener. They're quarterbacks. A five
star quarterback. He could be unbelievable. I just haven't seen
him play in a big spot, so we'll see. I
may by halftime of game one to Gohio because Ohio
(19:19):
State has the two best players and I don't think
it's close in college football. Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs
are easily the two best players in college.
Speaker 6 (19:28):
Coming into the season. Yet by the end of the season.
Arts Mannon could be up there.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
We'll see.
Speaker 6 (19:32):
I don't think at the beginning he's going to be
there for a new offensive lineman. Anyways, final story, Colin
to the w NBA where we're actually talking about the sport.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
With Caitlin Clark not playing.
Speaker 6 (19:42):
Oh but it's a Caitlin Clark topic. Anyway. She missed
her seventh straight game due to a groin injury, and
they've won five in a row without her. Here is
head coach Stephanie White talking about why Caitlyn's absence can
be viewed positively.
Speaker 10 (19:57):
I said it early when c was out the very
first time. You know, while we don't like it at
some times, it can be a blessing in disguise because
everybody else finds themselves right and no one is afraid
to make the big play offensively or defensively.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
Well, Sophie Cunningham, she got a new podcast. You guys
should check it out. So uh interest.
Speaker 6 (20:19):
By the way, the Fever Colin are here this week
against the La Sparks, who got Cameron brink back, and
my family was all stoked to go to the game
and now Kaitlin Clark's not gonna play. You know, and
it's like, I don't go. I would go without Kaylen
Clark there.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
Well, she's going to be in the arena.
Speaker 6 (20:37):
Okay, so we're getting autographs now, I mean, like, you know,
putting out a lot of money to go to these games.
You want the stars there. You know. If you tell
me that Patrick Mahomes is coming to so Fi to
play the Rams and then all of a sudden Mahomes
is out, Am I going to the game?
Speaker 1 (20:53):
Well they would they would be no good without Mahomes
and the Fever on Fire without Kaylen Clark. Maybe you
could just support the wnby I do I do?
Speaker 9 (21:01):
You know with.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Daughters, maybe you could just support the whole league there
via good dad all way. Sophie Cunning ams on fire.
She's shooting like forty two on threes and has a
new podcast.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
Did I mention that?
Speaker 6 (21:12):
Yeah? Yeah, that twice. You've now mentioned that twice. What's
the what's the why did you grab her as a
podcaster because of her pregame outfits?
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Is that?
Speaker 6 (21:18):
Is that what's going on?
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Because she's smart and then no bs and cuts to
the chase.
Speaker 6 (21:23):
That's why you hired me too, right, no.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Different reasons, you know, somebody had to carry the Sam
snide around here.
Speaker 6 (21:31):
We have SAMs okay nineteen eighties references.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Oh JM, well that's the news and thanks for stopping
by the Herd Line news man.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
The camps to everybody say, oh this camp video, you
can't make my you listen. Fans want Fans want positive,
especially on young quarterbacks. People get very defensive one quarterback.
So Jayden Daniels is an a bow Nix is a
good b. I think Dre Drake mays a be so far.
I think Panix is going to work that the people
(22:05):
that are concerned about Panics, it's mostly an Atlanta Falcons thing.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
It's not a Michael Pennocks thing. I don't know. I
will say this in total honesty.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Before he was drafted, I was very confident in Kayleb Williams.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
After year one.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
I'm confident in Caleb Williams. After this camp, I'm kind
of confident in Caleb Williams. So it's come down a
little bit. We'll see, we'll see.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
It's the hurt.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
in noon. Easter not a Empacific.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
Another reason not to love the Cowboys.
Speaker 6 (22:45):
This year.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
I just got a picture with this Jack Brian Shott,
and I'm of the coach. You know, I don't like
backward hats. What's worse as a backward visor. That's a
two win team, I'm taking away four wins. That's awful.
That's so bad.
Speaker 6 (23:03):
If you see a guy wearing a backwards visor, you
think one word, it's inappropriate for TV. But like, could
you hang with Like if I rolled up to play
golf with you and I had a backward visor on,
would you just pretend like you don't know me?
Speaker 1 (23:17):
Coin I would just say, And I know everybody gets
mad at this, I only really care. Like, for instance,
Bank of America is behind him. It's a big sponsor.
And so I do think if you're the head coach
or the quarterback of an organization and you do press conferences,
you're not only representing yourself. That's very selfish and narcissistic.
(23:38):
You are representing the Dallas Cowboys and you're representing Bank
of America. That's probably a huge team sponsor. They probably
paid eight million bucks or something like that, seven million
bucks to the Cowboys or you know, some big money deal.
So I tend to think here's what men do very poorly.
Men often don't think of others in social situations.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
It's how do I look can have?
Speaker 1 (24:00):
I think women tend to be a little more self aware,
a little less narcissism. So when you sit in front
of a podium, you're representing the Cowboys, you're representing Bank
of America, you're representing a twelve billion dollar corporation. I
think you got to do better as a head coach
than an advisor.
Speaker 6 (24:19):
Backwards, he looks, like my take, he looks like a
dad trying way too hard at like the neighborhood cookout
to impress like his teenage son's friends.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Yo, what's up fellas?
Speaker 6 (24:29):
You know he's got the backward hat.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
And by the way, I don't mind players do like
a practice is over and listen. I in the summer,
where I go, where's that in Rhode Island. There's a
lot of people with their hats on backwards. But you
don't do it at the really nice restaurant in town
because it just it's just like it's like it's a
(24:52):
really classy restaurant, so you just wouldn't do it there.
The like there there are an area in this hotel
I go to occasionally that has a membership. Are you
have to wear a jacket or you're not allowed in
like there are there are dress codes. There isn't a
dress code in the NFL. But I do think when
you are in front of the team logo and the
big bank sponsor which everybody has on Wednesday, and your quarterback,
(25:15):
I don't really care about any other position.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
I really don't, but.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
There is something there are certain to say that it
never matters if you're walking the red carpet. You're a
director of a You're you're the lead actor in a
Disney film with Steven Spielberg. You're representing Steven Spielberg and Disney,
not just you. You want to look the part you
want to you know, you're you're representing a staff, a corporation,
(25:41):
a legendary director.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
That stuff.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
I don't want to look like a guy that's here
to move my couch like. I want you to do
better than that.
Speaker 6 (25:47):
Let me ask you some and I'll never forget this.
You know, we got married way back in the day
and this dude who came with a girl who was
friends with my wife. He wore a short sleeve white shirt,
no tie. I was irate When I saw this guy,
I'm like, look, you're at a wedding, you don't even
know me or any and you showed up without a
tie and a white shirt that was short sleeves. And
(26:09):
I to this day haven't forgotten this clown. And I'm
just curious, Like it's similar to this, Like you're in
front of the Bank of America sign representing the Cowboys
and you ring a backwards visor.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
It just screams like what.
Speaker 6 (26:21):
Are you doing?
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Listen again.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
I know I'm in the minority, but I'm also I
also know, based on what people talk about in the summer,
that I don't care about a lot of things people
care about, Like I don't care. I've never bought People magazine.
A lot of Americans care about that stuff.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
I don't watch certain movies, I don't watch certain things.
So I'm not saying I'm aligned with the country. I'm
just saying, in my opinion is I'll give you an example.
When I go out and people take a picture with me,
because I work at Fox, I put.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
The drink down. It doesn't hurt me at all.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
I know people, but if I if I'm doing a picture,
I've always put the drink down or I put it
out of the picture because I'm representing the Murdoch family
and I don't need to. I wouldn't be fined, I
wouldn't get in trouble. Nobody would. But that's just my default,
and I think a lot of it's my I can
hear my dad talking about certain things, like you know,
like like I remember when I was going to college,
(27:19):
or I'm going to dress up, or I meet somebody,
and my dad, would you wear a collared shirt? And
so again, this is how I guess I was raised.
But there's a reason that country clubs and private clubs
you have to wear collared shirts and jackets. So there's
a reason for that, like there's a standard. So I
and I don't think it matters. I mean, if you
go if you want to clean your garage, or you're
(27:40):
out with buddies in a public golf court and not
you're in a sports bar.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
I'm not talking about that.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
I just I do think head coaches feel different than
you know, quarterbacks and head coaches.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
For that's just my opinion.
Speaker 6 (27:51):
So you're saying, if somebody comes up to me, they
take a photo and I'm double fisting alcoholic beverages. Maybe
put those down. It's not a good.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
I'm not saying you have to I And I'm sure
there's probably a picture where I'm not. But I just
always if I'm out at a place and somebody wants a selfie,
which happens four times a day, it happened ten times
yesterday because I was at a place that was public,
that's fine. But I'm gonna make sure I'm not holding
a big can of schlitz. Just you know it, just
I'm and it's not an elitist thing. It's a I'm
(28:22):
representing more than myself.
Speaker 6 (28:24):
Boy boy, well, just a flex and a half there
people want to take my photo.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
I'm going to club.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
It's not a flex. It's at the bottom line. You
could be a politician, you could be a local news anchor.
Everybody wants a selfie these days. That's just the reality
of the country we live in. This doesn't matter, it
doesn't That's just the way the world we live in.
I mean, people are taking pictures of their food all day. Yes,
occasionally public figures have people wanting. Seriously, if you go
(28:50):
to a restaurant, anybody under thirty is taking pictures of
their food. I don't get it, but whatever I do
that okay, Well, I am right. So earlier today Matt
Hasselbeck showed up, and you know, the Mica Partson situation.
(29:11):
One of the things I've always felt Diana Russini touched
on this. If you're a Dallas Cowboy like Dak Prescott,
if you take out Patrick Mahomes in the entire league
right now, I bet you, not just on salary, but
on endorsements. I would guess Dak Prescott has made more
money than everybody but Patrick Mahomes in this league, including
(29:33):
Joe Burrow, including Josh Allen. And why do I believe that,
Because if you're the Dallas Cowboys, if you're a quarterback
or a star player for the Dallas Cowboys, you're just
discussed more. You're going to get podcast offers, production company offers,
You're going to get commercials. So I do think about that.
I always said this with Dwayne Wade. You got pat
(29:54):
Riley spoils from Mickey Harrison, no state tax, aqua water
in a winter league like there are be it's to
playing for the Miami Heat. If you have to play,
if you have to play on the Eastern Seaboard, you
can do a lot worse than the Miami Heat. Great organization,
great fans, unbelievable support. And my take on the holdout is,
(30:16):
you know you've been fairly compensated. You're gonna get paid.
I wouldn't make it pissy. I wouldn't make it public.
I just wouldn't do that. Terry McLaurin, it's a totally
different situation. I totally have his back. Here's hasselback earlier
on the Michael Micah Parson situation.
Speaker 11 (30:33):
Jerry Jones seems to like be fine with this kind
of conflict, fine with this kind of drama, but he
also doesn't seem like the kind of owner that wants
to get like pushed around publicly. So you know, there's
a part of me that says, hey, this is Michael Parsons.
Figure it out, closed the door, include the agent. Then
there's another part of me that says, hey, why don't
you just punt on this year anyway, Go out and
get like the most amazing draft package for next year
(30:57):
and really start focusing this team on next year because
I've really don't know that you can compete with Philly
and that you can compete really with Washington. And then
the rest of the NFC.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
Yeah, it's a further record. The only quarterback that made
more money off the field last year than Dak was
Patrick Mahomes. So that's why I always say with Dak,
I'm not telling guys to take pay cuts. But it's like, dude,
you've made like three hundred million bucks off the field
or some astronomical number. You need more good players around you. Now,
maybe Dak could argue, well, I don't trust what the
(31:29):
Cowboys would do with the money, but I mean, Breeze,
Brady Mahomes have taken team friendly deals and they got
a lot of rings. I'm just looking for Dak to
win back to back playoff games.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
So I don't know.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
I do think there are advantages playing with the Dallas
Cowboys that you don't get other places. And by the way,
Texas has no state tax. Dallas a beautiful place to
live for a young single athlete, young married athletes. Dallas
a wonderful place to live. It's just there are advantages,
and I'm not going to mess with the guys money.
But I don't like the way Mike is handling his business.
I don't love it. Terry McLaurin is a totally different situation.
(32:05):
He's wildly outperformed his contract. He has been the shining
light until last year of a messy franchise. He's been
a quality human being, a great adult, a great leader,
a great player, an unbelievable playoff performer. Terry McLaurin I
would pay today, I'd overpay Terry McLaurin. And he's on
the offensive side of the ball. That matters a lot
(32:25):
to me too.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
Not all holdouts are the same. Yes, Ryan, I'll give
you a selfie later.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
Yeah, and even my own staff's reality.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
We'll see tomorrows.
