Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
I'm J Mack and J Mack. I'm all worked up.
So since the election, all these Hollywood types on their
ivory towers are leaving Twitter slash X. Would they have
left at their side one? It's just funny you sit
up there in your ivory tower. One of the reasons
I'll never leave X is because I have strong opinions.
You have a right to strong opinions against me. Well,
(00:46):
that's the game. If you can only play the game
when everything goes your way. Don't read your replies. I
don't read my replies. So take your shots, but you
have every right to do it. But all these you,
it's just so funny people leaving now, it's like, oh,
would you left if your side one? So you love judging,
you love being critical, sitting in your ivory tower, but
now the heat gets turned up and you don't like it.
(01:09):
A bunch of phonies take the heat.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
How much of this do you think is election versus Okay,
guy who now owns X.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Oh, but he owned X for two years, right.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
But now he was just instrumental in said elections. Well,
so what He's a very polarized guy. I mean, listen,
the rockets in space are awesome, you know who some
of the other stuff less less awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
By the way, George Soros, these are all rich. He's
held the other side. That's the game. It's America. That's
always been the case.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
He's less Carnival Barker because he's not front facing this
other guy wants to be, you know, in front of you.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
He's less brilliant. Did he did he create Tesla? Is
he sending rockets to the movie?
Speaker 3 (01:45):
He has done that. He's also done a lot of
not good stuff, which is the case.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
It is not a political commentary. It is if you're
gonna sit in your ivory tower on social media and
judge others, which Hollywood's prone to do, will then suck
it up. Buttercup, deal with it. When you're side loses.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
I'm in the ivory tower when it comes to the
Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
I was lobbing grenades all off season and now they're
seven and two and I'm taking all the arrows.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Bring them on.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
I was wrong. I don't know's wrong on Pittsburgh. I'm
not gonna leave. Steeler fans are mean to me. You
should be. You're a fan, and I was wrong. Take
your hacks. Yeah, now you're irrational on the Chiefs hate.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Oh here we go.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
At least my Steeler's criticism had some merit.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
You're just okay, fine, The Chiefs could miss the playoffs
after receiver Rice went down.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
That was a bit of a swing and a miss. Uh,
just a bit outside, as they say in Major League. Yeah,
I actually said that.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
I don't I don't care if you want to leave
any platform because people can be vile, especially anonymous people.
But a lot of the judgeest people are now leaving it,
a lot of the judgeest people. And I'm judge. I
am judging, but I'm not leaving it when I'm wrong. Five.
I don't you know, I'm not deleting a second hour
(02:57):
every Monday. Here's Rice screwed up. Take you're wax at man.
I don't mind people taking wax at me because I
take wax at people.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
And when you're right on like the Broncos, we hear
about it every day for six six months.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
I tried to get I try to get people on
the show Monday last hour. They don't want to be
on the show. I'm not going to give away who
it was.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Oh listen, we're not as close as we used to
because I'm only hearing this on Thursday.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Come on, man, what have you got some stuff going
on you want to talk about?
Speaker 1 (03:24):
No, it was just, you know, not everybody loves you.
That's ever right to ask you on the show, and
you have a right to say no. I have a
right to a tough question. You have a right not
to answer it. Jim Harbaugh didn't like me, Now he
adores me, So that's that's the game. I just don't
like people who preach and can't take it back.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Would Lincoln Riley come on the show if they lose
this weekend?
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Well, I wouldn't want him on the show.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
You could ask if the tough question somebody has to.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
at noon eastern am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio FS one.
And the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
Appack with the news.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
This is the headline news.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
All right, it's bo next time Colin listen. He's had
a really good season. The Rookies had a lot of
progress since the opener.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Uh. And they had the Chiefs on the rope.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Last week before that Lucky blocked field.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Goal, same case season.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
Sean Payton discussed a moment he saw between Nix and
Mahomes during the postgame handshake.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
It was funny after the games, Quitney, you know, you're
going across the field and I see Andy and a
few of the other guys, and I see Patrick and
known him, and he just turned to me said you
got one. And I think he told bow, hey, we're
going to have a lot of good games and uh.
And that's that's something coming from him.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Sure is you got one.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
He's in a much better headspace this year. Is I
remember last year of the press conferences with Russell. Wilson
was like, well, I think Sean and Russell are different people.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Forget the football. Certain one is very curt and direct.
One is more optimistic. That is okay, not everything's a
perfect fit.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
That's but also Russ is a veteran. He's been not
his first Roudio bo Nix is like, Hey, I'm happy
to be here.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
You know what's great? You have Russell's flourishing, Sean's crushing.
Both win it.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
That's a good point.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
They're both winning.
Speaker 6 (05:16):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
I don't think it's a good habit to root against people.
I've never once rooted against Baker Mayfield never. One time
I tried to hire him on my company, The Volume.
I made an offer to hire him to do college
football podcasting Emily Baker. Baker's a wonderful guy. I know
a story about Baker behind the scenes that like three
people in the world know. Wonderful guy. He's done amazing
(05:39):
things for people. I didn't like the cockiness early. But
the whole point is rooting against people is bad for
your heart. It's bad for it's bad for everything.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Should I start stop rooting against the New York Giants, Yes,
you should.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
What about the Patriots? I don't need to they steak anyway. No,
but there are some teams I rooted against Miami Dolphins.
I just because there were all division with the Jets
back in there. I get that you're more fan than
that fan.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Yeah, but like individuals, I mean even Johnny Manziel, who
I crushed for years. I met Johnny Manziel. I've heard
Johnny's a great time. I didn't think he's a great quarterback.
I'm not building my franchise, right, I don't root against
Johnny Mann. Why would I root against people?
Speaker 6 (06:16):
Weird?
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Do you think people do that a lot? Just root
against someone on principle.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
I think people, Yeah, there's a lot.
Speaker 6 (06:22):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
I don't. Oh well, I mean politics divide people.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
Lebron says some stuff that people just automatically don't like
him and dismiss him.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
What whatever, Like I I.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Mean, I'm gonna listen. I'm I can be judge. So
who am I? But I just I don't think. And
you're a fan, but I I think it's a bad
practice to root against people. A society's better. Angry people
are not good for society. Everybody winning, you know, it's
everybody winning a little.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
People aren't a part of society. They're sitting at home
keyboard warriors getting all angry.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
They're not in society. Like like, people don't come up
to you and say, man, I take with terrible cowhard.
How could you say that? They're not like angry at you.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Nobody does that, right, not really? Oh well, I mean
they don't agree with me all the time, but of
course not. Come on, and I'm like, hey, it's no
big deal. Everybody's wrong once in a while.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
NBD.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Now here's a big story, right that's emerging right now, Colin.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
Second story is the Falcons are headed to Denver this
weekend and Kirk Cousins is dinged up limited at practice
yesterday with a shoulder and elbow injury.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
You're his throwing arm.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Love Denver.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
So that's probably why the line went up from I
think it was one and a half to two and
a half.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
And the big story is Michael Pennix could be in
line for his.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
First career start. Now it's still early on, it's only Thursday.
Drake London is fully back at practice, but this line
has crept up to two and a half for Denver.
This would not be a great spot for Michael Pennock's
outdoors in the cold against a pretty damn good deal.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Well we played Indiana and Washington, yeah, but still like
this is Denver altitude and this is the biggest Denver defense.
Bottle up, Patrick Mahomes, come on, he's a good defense.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
No, it's I don't like betting games where I don't
know what the quarterback is going to give me. I
like certainty. So don't you take a Denver I am,
but I'd rather have Kirk Cousins. I know what I'm getting,
little win cold Weather Dome quarterback. Now, he played Domon Minnesota,
Doman Atlanta. He knows his ball doesn't cut through wins.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
So yeah, Falcons defense is just not great.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
They haven't had a pass rush in years and they
got Jude On. Remember, well he's a smaller defense. No, No,
he's a very good plea. He's not Miles Garrett or TJ.
Wat He's not a dominating but he's very effective.
Speaker 6 (08:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
Final story, Colin is to the NBA. Now, just got
to preach a little caution here, folks. Okay, this is
an interesting story. Stephan Clay met the other night for
the first time since Clay left the Warriors. For the match,
Curry went off for thirty seven or nine assist Curry
was unbelievable at the end of the game.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
I think he had twelve straight.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
However, Draymond Green has now gone on a podcast and
attributed just Curry's performance to something of a pregame snub
from Klay Thompson that was supposed to.
Speaker 6 (09:05):
Speak before the game before. Yeah, I called Raymond and
told him I'm not speaking. I just need to lock
it on the game. So I ain't speaking. And I
talked to Clay about it before before and Clay goes
to me, so he got this, and.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
There we go, there we go.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
That's why it was on tick.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Yeah, that well, you know, it's weird. Listen. Is it
tough for Klay Thompson probably thinks, hey, why didn't you
have my back when they when they were getting rid
of me? But that's not Steph Curry's job, not really.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
It's just if Steph Curry said I want Clay back,
it's they're keeping Clay.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
He did say that, but it's a salary cap sport.
I don't listen. It's been this, it's been this. You can't,
you can't. I want this guy back. That's like Aaron
Rodgers saying I want Alan Lazard and he got him. Yeah,
how's it working.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
He got Randall Cobb, he got the OC. Yeah, here's
the only issue. So apparently Curry, and again this is
from the podcast, Curry had agreed to make a speech
after the Clay tribute video, and then Draymond was like, dude,
you got to lock in.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
We need you. There's a big game national TV.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
We can't lose, and Curry's like, you're right, Allegedly, I'm
not going to speak, So then he let Clay know
that he wasn't going to speak, and Clay just never responded.
So I don't know if it's a ghosting. I'm sure
Clay will chime in. Have you seen the tribute video,
by the.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Way, yes, I thought that was awesome.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
Yeah, and I'm not one of those sentimental love I.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
Loved that Clay Thompson. There were pictures of Klay Thompson
playing and everybody in the stands how that Clay had
on pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
They did a damn good job on that.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
The Warriors, well, yeah, I mean then they should. He
was a he's a remark. He's one of the top,
I mean, Rick Berry, Steph Curry, Clay Thompson, Draymond Green.
Of the great Warriors of all time, there's like five
or six guys, and outside of Rick Berry, a lot
of them are this iteration of the Warriors. So it's amazing,
by the way, go to the Fox Sports app. The
(11:08):
Herd will continue now it's UWAIFA Nations League Greece versus
England on f S one. As we continue. Yeah, I
think what's fascinating we talked about regular season and playoff basketball.
What I think is interesting with the Warriors, They're really
going to be a very good regular season team because
(11:29):
they're playing twelve guys, so they're so I mean, when
you play twelve guys, everybody's fresh. Steph curries don't happen
to play forty minutes, and so Steph and Draymond are
still elite at what they do. Wiggans is a bad
contract they're stuck with. It is he's just not the
same player he aged very quickly. But they're playing so
many guys, so they're the classic really strong regular season
team won't work.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
We'll see what happens in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
By the way, now that we're on the app, I've
just got to ask, are we allowed to say obscenities
or no?
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Or I would say no, Okay.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
I just wanted to check because you know, like Cosmo Kramer,
I want to let the explitters fly.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
Yeah, I think you can do that on like exam
or so I'm serious. I think you're allowed to do that.
I don't. I still don't code it.
Speaker 6 (12:10):
We are.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
We are on national broadcast radio. FCC regulates that. On podcast,
Howard Stern.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Blew up the FCC. He could just say whatever you want.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Yeah, this isn't straight fire with Jay McIntyre that you
just get a swear like a sailor. I we have
advertisers and companies and we're governed by the FCC right
now this very moment.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Maybe Elon could take care of that for us. He's
blown up.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Every now the Twitter. You know, that's a if you
do whatever you want on that app. It's I do think.
I mean, that's what's funny about Here's one of the
things I hate that people are so partisan now. It's
so ridiculous that a comedian will crush But if it's
like a right wing comedian, everybody's like, he's not funny
(12:53):
or vice versa. Funny is funny. Dave Chappelle's funny. I
don't care where his politics are. He's funny. I just
saw Sebastian Manikowsko in Chicago. He had a thirty minute
set in the middle of his hour. It's one of
the funniest things I've ever seen him. I'd laugh so
hard my wife and I would just in tears. So
you know that that that drives me nuts, Like we've
gotten so partis in everybody. Elon Musk, isn't that smart?
(13:17):
He created PayPal by thirty one. Ben Tesla, Now it's
Mars rocket ships. I'm gonna say it's fairly bright in
a starlink is his star. Yeah, I'm gonna say he's smart,
smarter than like newspaper columnist at the Des Moines Register
that rips him like I mean, it's gave me.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
It's entrepreneur columnist in Des Moines.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
I mean, I don't like when people marginalize somebody's intellect, talent,
musical ability, comedy because you know, this guy's not funny.
Dave Chappelle is funny all the time. I don't even
know what his politics are, but that that's where tribalism
goes off the rails for me, like I I think
(13:57):
Sebastian Manikowsko, John.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
Mulaney, Dave Kevin the way. Have you ever seen Joe
Rogan life.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
I've seen him at the comedy store. This is before you.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
I'm sure it's funny.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
He's really good. I thought it was hilarious. Well, you
like he's in that. I think Rogan's good at stand up.
Speaker 6 (14:12):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Rogan's good to a lot of stuff. Yeah, he's like
a judo guy. He's a podcast star. He's great on
the UFC. He's fantastic on the UFC. He's a talented guy.
He's and again, there's a certain segment in our country now,
Joe Rogan is is very dangerous. He's a podcaster. I
don't even know where he lines up politically. All the time.
(14:33):
I have no idea what Joe Rogan is.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Surely you saw that. But like even you and I
I don't agree with everything you say. But I'm not
gonna like dislike you or discount you because.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
You know, that's how normal people function.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Yeah, we're kind of normal.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Yeah, I think my sister and I always talking about
my sister is very very normal. I'm probably less normal.
But it's just like, it's okay, you don't have to
agree with everything I agree with. It's it's it's a
vacation with people. There's a couple of couples I vacation with.
They're probably more conservative than me. What do I care.
We have a great time. They're philanthropic, they're wonderful people.
They own companies, they treat their employees great. They're good,
(15:06):
just good dads.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Like what do I care?
Speaker 1 (15:08):
I don't care if you and I have a border
disagreement or.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
It's not like they're rolling up to dinner wearing a
red hat, you know, or anything like that.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
No, I had to, I'm sorry, make cocktails with Colin
great again. That's the hat.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Everybody should make Big ten picks great again. Exactly, They've
been great all season.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
But you know j Mac with the news, Well that's
the news, and thanks for stopping by. You know, we
bring I've been bringing Greg ho Sel on Thursdays forever.
I mean back of the old place here. He today
did something he'd never done. He wanted to get so
exact on Caleb williams criticism that he got his glasses
(15:47):
out because he writes notes. Greg sends me notes all
the time. He writes notes on players. That's what he does.
He watched his film all day and he plays no favorites,
pulls no punches. Here was his earlier breakdown on the
struggles of Kayleb Williams.
Speaker 7 (16:00):
Two years at USC he got sacked over eighty times,
and there are a lot of people that were concerned
that that was not just an O line issue with USC,
that that was a Caleb Williams issue. And right now
it's coming to fruition a bit in the league, So
this was not a Shane Waldron problem at all. Right now,
everything is happening too fast for Williams. He's not been
(16:22):
able to slow down the game mentally, so he gets
stuck in the pocket waiting, and you can't do that
at this point. He too often lacks an effective internal
pocket clock, which also forces him to stay in the
pocket too long holding the ball. And the last point
is he's a slow recognizer and processor. He's not making
(16:43):
the needed connection between route concepts and coverage. So all
this leads to an increased number of sacks.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
No, I think that's I think that was Zach Wilson's issue.
He did not recognize defenses. I think that was justin
Field's issue. Some guys they see it. I mean Mahomes.
I've never seen anybody as fast as Mahomes see it.
Let it rip accurate. He just he sees stuff before
he sees it as it's developing. He's throwing the places.
(17:13):
By the way, Matt Stafford against Miami had a couple throws.
He's throwing the ball, the receiver isn't even into the
break yet, so he's seeing stuff before the receiver's into
the break. Sam Darnald struggled with the Jets. I think
he still still struggles recognizing the concepts. I remember when
Sam Darnald was in San Francisco, he told a friend
(17:34):
of mine that he said he thought brock Purty recognized
cognitively coverages faster than any quarterback he'd ever seen or
played with. So part of brock Perty's strength he sees
it really fast. He identifies it really fast. Darnald struggled
with it. Zach Wilson struggled with it. Mahomes is unbelievable
at it. Everybody's different live an Ali, It's the Herd.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
One more heard. The Herd streams twenty four four hours
a day, seven days a week within the iHeartRadio app.
Search her to listen live or on demand whenever you like.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Dan Woike covers the Lakers for the La Times and
Lebron put on a clinic last night. He is joining
us now live, so let's start with JJ Reddick. It
seemed pretty obvious in the first game or two that
he was identifying Anthony Davis is the best player. A
lot of usage is anything. If I said to you,
(18:27):
give me two things you've noticed with JJ Reddick you
didn't see with Darvin Ham. What's his identity as a
coach right now?
Speaker 8 (18:33):
Dan, I mean, I think he's been able to get
really good buying from his players when it comes to
executing the offensive schemes that they want and getting them
away from sort of the hero ball iso ball stuff that,
by the way, Lebron and Anthony Davis are called excellent
at The way they're playing right now is more connected offensively,
more guys are eating, as they say, And I think,
(18:56):
like the biggest thing Collin obviously is that they get
easy baskets. They create, you know, six to eight points
a game on just sort of like layups that they
draw up and stuff like that. And I think that's
been the biggest change that I've seen, you know, And
beyond that, I just think, like you know, like with
any new boss, right you have a little bit of
(19:16):
a built in head start when when you get a job,
and the fact that they've had success, particularly on the
offensive side of the ball so far this season. I
think it's it's only lengthened kind of the leash that
JJ Reddick has as the first time head coach.
Speaker 6 (19:32):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (19:33):
Over the last two to two and a half years,
Anthony Davis had a reputation and it was earned. He
you know, there were dad bod doesn't really love training.
I covered a player like that, Rashid Wallace, who just
didn't he was he was allergic to the weight room.
He didn't like it. Great player, great guy. Yeah, last
couple of years, this dude is amazing. I thought he
was the best defensive player in the league last year,
(19:54):
regardless of not winning the What is it though, Like
he's just more durable, His game shifted, you know, I.
Speaker 8 (20:01):
Think him and I have talked about this. I mean,
he would tell you that some of the stuff that's happened,
you know, since he's been in LA, that that kind
of earned him. Like the street clothes nickname was just
bad luck. Right like you step on Ruby Gobert's foot.
Whose fault is that? That's not about being lazy. I
think he's owned the fact that coming out of the
bubble he wasn't in good shape because he wasn't you know,
(20:24):
I think that the short the short layoff really affected him.
And and you know, he didn't get off to a
great start and had a couple of injuries that year.
But like since then, the stuff that that that has
kept him out of acting has mostly been pretty freakish stuff,
you know. I mean he played last night. You saw
like his eye was still pretty swallen. You could see
the bloodshot around like the the center of the eye
(20:46):
from where he got poked by yakam pertl on Sunday.
But yeah, no, he's he's been out there and and
he's been really empowered in this offense. You know, I
think Colin, when people talk about spacing and shooting, obviously,
see you want to create three pointers and you want
to get shots for your shooters, but you're also trying
to do is you're just trying to unclog the middle
(21:07):
too for the players that play around the rim. And
that's for Anthony Davis feasts. And I think you know,
as you see there as he hits the three, he's
been more confident on the perimeter to it. And this,
you know, this is the best offensive version I think
I've seen of him since he's been in a Laker uniform,
and you know, he's been the guy.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Okay, I heard his story yesterday, Brownie's not going to
travel G League, and my first take was he didn't
want to fly commercial. That was my first take. But
I also I don't think that he.
Speaker 8 (21:36):
Does colin to be totally clear when it's available, when
it's not available. I just thought I've tried the same
with my bosses that they pushed back a little harder
against me.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
I get it. I don't think there's I don't think
Brownie is an NBA player. He's a six to one
off guard. He's not a true point I don't think
it exists, and and and in the G League. If
if you're not averaging eighteen points in the G League,
you're probably not an NBA player. How is this?
Speaker 6 (21:59):
I mean, is J J.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
Reddick gonna be forced to play him? I mean, what
what's real and what's not with the brawny story?
Speaker 8 (22:06):
So I think, Okay, So it's a couple of things
I think are happening here that make this all sort
of complicated and have the Lakers proceeding in the way
that they're proceeding.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
I think.
Speaker 8 (22:17):
One like I think you're right, Like, he has a
tremendous amount of work and growth in front of him
to get to usable NBA player on a night to
night basis graight. He's a six to one to two guard.
Athletically though and physically like he's there. He does possess
those traits, it's harnessing him and using them. The ball
handling and the playmaking is a real problem. I went
(22:38):
to his first G League game and yeah, you know,
in the first half, played pretty well. Second half, turnovers
were up, fatigue was up, didn't shoot it well, struggled
in the second half. Didn't look though, like on the court,
like he didn't belong by any stretch like he looked
like he should be out there and getting as many
g LE reps as possible. So that is one pathway
to development. And I think you know, when you hear
(23:00):
that they're gonna willingly choose to not let him play
in some of these games, you know, you have to
ask yourself it's a logical question, like are the Lakers
doing right by Bronnie James and by Bronnie James' development?
Speaker 2 (23:12):
Yeah, I do think it is.
Speaker 8 (23:13):
Worth noting that there is some of this stuff that
is even regardless of Roddy James. It's just holistic about
how they operate with the G League. Like they do
think it is valuable organizationally for a player's development to
not just spend all their time in the G League,
to be around on trips and to do things like
go to your hometown, to be around for things like
the Ncason Tournament, different stuff like that. They do find
(23:34):
value in that, particularly for rookie players, and they've done
so in the past. I just think though, when you
watch him, you just see a player that needs more,
Like if you want to believe in him, you know,
and there's a lot of reasons to want to believe
in him. He's a tremendous kid, for one, right, like
he like, he's about the right stuff. He's a great worker,
(23:55):
doesn't treat people poorly, all of these things that you
would want high character the if you want to believe
in him, you know that he needs to be on
the court.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
Yeah, And that's the that's.
Speaker 8 (24:06):
The rub on this, and that's the disconnect. But I
will say, Colin, look, if this makes Lebron James happier,
if it makes him more comfortable. If it helps energize
him through an eighty two game season, that quite frankly,
you know, as he turns forty year in December, is
like it's a long year. There's probably value to the
Lakers to have that happen too, So you know they're
going to take a little bit of a pr hit
(24:28):
in the short term, I think on this, but you know,
he's on the roster. They like having him around, players
believe in him, that the organization likes him, and you know,
if there's other benefits obviously that exists by creating you know,
occasional cool moments with you know, him and Lebron like
so be.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
It finally any I mean it's early, we're in November,
but you you sniff around the league. Is there a
trade in the offing? You know there's the Karl Anthony
Towns as the first move to get you honest, I
had said before the season, I've watched Milwaukee get really old,
really fast. Now that Middleton's you know, chronically hurt. They
(25:05):
can't defend the wing. You're not beating Boston. You're not
gonna beat New York Boston and okay, sees and if
you can't defend the perimeter. Lakers, by the way, Warriors
now are playing very good ball because they have so
much depth in their twitchy and they move. You got
to defend the wing. The honest stuff, you buy it.
I kind of you can talk yourself into him getting
(25:27):
moved if this thing gets ugly.
Speaker 8 (25:31):
Sure, you know, I mean I think like you can
talk yourself into that Colin with virtually any player, right,
Like I do think that you know, Jannis is the
type of player you build around right now, the type
of player you send out to rebuild if you can,
if you can, if you can avoid it, right And
you know, when we tell the story of the Milwaukee Bucks,
(25:51):
I mean, like you watch that team now and you're
just like, you know, who they could use is they
could really use a Druliday type who they at they
won a championship with and and obviously they want to
get more offense in the half court, and they traded
for Dame Lillard and you know, Chris Middleton gets hurt
and they get old real quick, right, But the good
news is that the Eastern Conference, though Colin is like
(26:12):
they're a good week away from being like totally right
back in this Yeah, like that's really all it's going
to take in the East right now to like start
building and you know, if they do get Milton back,
but their pathways for getting better are really tricky, you know.
I think when it comes to trades at this side
of the season, like you know, seeds are being planted,
(26:33):
you know, teams are trying to still figure out who
they are or what they can become. And when buyers
and sellers then become a little clearer, it's easier to know.
Right now, costs are really inflated. You know, there are
teams like the Lakers that are calling around on big
men right but it's a really it's a real uh
seller's market. There aren't that many, you know, and there's
(26:53):
a bunch of teams that are looking for it. So
you know, there isn't a ton of movement on this
right now because the prices are high for you relatively
low returns. If Giannis does hit the market, he's one
of those like you do you know, you move hell
an eye water to get that guy. Obviously, he's had
an MVP glory season so far, fifty nine points last night.
(27:15):
Despite the fact that this team is really struggling. That's
The biggest to me if I was gonna be nervous
about the Bucks, is like, this guy is doing everything
and they're not winning.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
Yeah, Dan Woiki la times good seeing him, man, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
It's good.
Speaker 8 (27:29):
Scendy too, Colin. Let's let's just against.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
Him, all right. So j Mac, Yeah, I forget you're
a Sixer fan or an, you're a Knick fan, you're
Nick fan. Yeah, Nick, give me your five favorite teams
in all sports, all sports, not the one you. We'll
go Jets one, Jets one.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
I guess I'll go nixt to Lakers, three, Yankee Dodgers
four or five?
Speaker 1 (28:00):
All right?
Speaker 4 (28:00):
I would now Now remember I'm a Warriors guy because
of Curry, but the second he bailed on Golden State,
I'm out.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
Same way I felt about the Patriots. I was a
brady guy he left.
Speaker 8 (28:08):
I didn't care.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
You know, I'm looking forward to talking to Tom chopping
up some Jets Patriots talk.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Can't wait for that.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Yeah, I'm sure he's excited as well.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
I don't think he worries much. I will say there
are teams in this league that don't have a winning record,
but I like where they're going. New England's one of them.
I think they found their quarterback. I think they're getting
better every week. It's like, oh, that's a team.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
Well wait, you just said New England found their quarterback.
Please rank for me right now the rookie quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
How you wish? Jayden won bow Knicks two, Caleb had
a really good three game stretch. Three, Drake May four.
But Drake may came into this. I thought with Needing
the most work was his feet were all messed up
and his mechanics weren't perfect. And I think McCarthy's going
(28:55):
to be really good.
Speaker 4 (28:57):
It's interesting that the two top guys both have really
sharp offensive mind in Kingsbury, and.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
That's why I think when you're a defensive coach, you
gotta get the OC right. You gotta get that right
if you and a lot of these defensive coordinator guys
that become head coaches, you know, like Demiko Ryan's works,
He's got the OC right.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
Butffalo slowish slowk is under some fire from Texans fans
right now. They have not liked what they've seen, but
a lot of that is no Nico Collins. Stefan Diggs
is out for the season. Tank Della is fully recovered
from UH whatever injuries he's had.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
Interesting Colin Week eleven, Pick the upset. We do it
every week. Pick the upset.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
I'll let you go first. You're on the t box.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
That is a tough one. Nothing Cincinnati at the Chargers,
be very one spread, get out of here. I think
Cincinnati is a tough matchup, that it's an upset. Patriots one.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
Are taking them behind the woodshed.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
Oh it's almost You gave a little hint on where
you're betting. I love those Thursday hints.
