Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Yeah, the story broke.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
A year ago with our show, but then it broke
yesterday with Seth Wickersham at ESPN, who's very credible source
that basically, you know, Caleb Williams came out and just
he and his dad were ready to sort of. Seth
Wickersham said, you know, there was gas everywhere and Caleb
just wasn't willing to throw the match into it. So
he said, no, I want to go. But you know,
(00:49):
and I know, having kind of broke the story a
year ago that I know it was tough. I know
all the concerns I heard through somebody very close, somebody
at USC he, somebody very close to Caleb, somebody in
the legal representation world, is that there were concerns and
this was being discussed and they were and this is
(01:09):
why it offended him.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
At the time.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
I don't blame him there. I mean, look, we've looked
at this organization. Look at the Jets. How many coaches
and gms have the Jets and the Giants run through.
I mean before Demiko Ryans and.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Uh, you know c J.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Stroud, it was a laughingstock in Houston. Look a look
at Dan Snyder and Washington. They were a mess for
twenty years. Some of these organizations are just the organizations
are tools, uh, and toys for billionaires. I mean Cleveland,
Johnny Manziel, Deshaun Watson. You know, Chicago drafted Mitch Trubisky.
(01:46):
I can remember when Chicago drafted Mitch Trubisky. I remember
saying this on the show. I remember it very well.
Greg Cosell said, I want you to watch before the
draft Mitch Trubisky, and it was it was during the
college season. He said, Mitch Trubisky is getting a lot
of love about getting being first round pick. And I
(02:07):
watched it and I said, I just don't feel like
that's a first round quarterback. Like you can see it
really quickly, Like I said this, I just Quinn yours
to me, it's not a first round quarterback. I just
I don't see it Jackson Dart's good. I don't think
he's a first round quarterback. I said this about Daniel Jones.
I said it about Zach Wilson. You know, I always
said I thought Baker wasn't I wouldn't draft Baker, but
I thought he was a big time quarterback talent. Not
(02:28):
a number one pick, but really good. And so all
this stuff that I had reported last year, it's it's
it's not surprising. And Danny Parkins, who was a long time,
very popular, successful radio host in Chicago for years before
FS one hired him, he talked about the report that
came out yesterday from Seth Wickersham.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
The thing about it was was that all of the
concerns Colin ended up being justified. They fired Shane Waldron
nine games into the year, and Caleb Williams said he
was watching film alone and it never been taught how
to watch films. So it explains why it was such
a disaster last season. Caleb Williams is going to be
very high up on those lists of who's under the
(03:10):
most pressure to perform this year because you can look
at the Bears roster and say, okay, kid, time's yours, Like,
what do the Bears not have at this point. They've
done everything right after sabotaging his rookie year.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
So arch Manning is going to go through some of
this next year.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Is that you know, I was just reading a story
of this morning when I got up, or last night
as I was watching some nuggets, oksee, as I was
doing some reading, and you know, arch Manning has put
on weight, cleaned up some mechanics, not like they were
bad to begin with. You know, one of the criticizems
criticisms of arch Manning is, hey, slide, learned to slide.
You're taking hits, which is always a pretty good criticism
if you're.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Making yards on your own and ad living off script.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
But you know, I think Albert Breer a couple days ago,
yesterday actually, I asked him about this report that came
out by Seth wickershamon KYM.
Speaker 5 (04:01):
And his dad's a very smart and accomplished businessman and
you know, taught his son to think differently. And the
reality is like this is something that all teams were
looking into, and anybody that was going to be in
a position to draft him was concerned about this. You
can understand his concerns, certainly, you know, I think this
is something that more and more athletes think about, and
(04:24):
you know, it's something we heard about with Shadur a lot,
you know, going into his draft a lot of times.
You know, I think these guys were able to take
a bigger picture view of it, and the bigger picture
view of it would show that going to the right
place isn't more, is absolutely more important than the getting
drafted as high as he can.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Now, the pressure because of Ben Johnson and Joe Tooney
and Dj Moore and getting a second tight end Loveland
from Michigan, because Drew Dolman, Jonah Jackson, because of all
these moves, the pressure now is all on Caleb Williams.
And I said, this is once you get the right coach.
(05:05):
And I'm I'm thinking Ben Johnson's the right coach. Caleb
Williams should be really good, really quickly. I mean Jaden
Daniels had a week O line okay, and was really
good by late September. So now I do think the
Bears O line will take maybe to Thanksgiving to get
(05:26):
it right. And I think yesterday Ben Johnson said, you know,
he said, I the pass blocking will be fine. The
run blocking takes time. But pass blocking it'll be a
good O line very quickly. So I do think the
Bears offense will grow over the season cohesion O line.
But the pressure now is on Caleb and he has
been inaccurate now last year. He doesn't throw a ton
(05:48):
of picks he did in the USC. He's a playmaker.
We know that he's got a big arm. He only
had six picks last year, holds the ball a little long.
He completed sixty two and a half percent of his throws.
You probably want to get that closer to sixty four
sixty five percent. He's never gonna throw a ton of interceptions,
but you gotta be good early. It didn't take long
for us to look at Bowe Nicks and go, oh,
(06:08):
that's gonna work. Is it gonna be great? I don't
know that's gonna work. It didn't take long with a
bad roster for us to look at Drake Man and
go he's really good. It didn't take us long to
look at Jayden Daniels and go, oh, that's Lamar Jackson.
Better thrower, not quite the run, that's Lamar Jackson. So
if you go back justin Herbert Joe Burrow most of
(06:29):
the time once you get the right coach, Once Goff
got McVeigh. Go back to September of golf second year,
you were like, oh, yeah, yeah, he spins it six
four and a half, super accurate, tough, get he spins it.
Once you get the right coach three or four games,
we should see significant improvement by Cayleb Williams. I pushed
(06:52):
back on all the bear stuff last year. I had
him finishing fourth. In fact, I said going into last year,
I said, I think there'll be more promise, but don't
be shocked if they don't win any more games from
the previous year. I mean, their coaches on the hot seat.
Three game losing street, it's gonna blow up. It's gonna
be a mess. I think they're a nine to a
ten win team. I don't think there are a twelve
win team. I think the division is too good and
(07:13):
the schedule's too tough.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Be sure to catch live editions on The Herd weekdays
at noon Easter nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
Jmack with the News, No, no turn on the news.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
This is the Herd Line News.
Speaker 6 (07:31):
All right, Colin, Let's start with the Raiders their new
head coach Pete Carroll. Obviously he had a great tenure
in Seattle, and he was asked about how it ended.
Carol said that after running the Seahawks for thirteen years,
it was time for someone else to step in.
Speaker 7 (07:47):
Well, we were about to face one of the bigger
changes in his shifts in the time of the program.
And I had really been dedicated, as John had been
dedicated to John Snyder to doing this thing in great
fashion together and we had we had had done that,
I thought, and uh, it was it was really John's turn.
(08:10):
It was just turned to take over. And I know
I had been had the lead voice and all of
that all through that time, and I was really hoping
that John could become the general manager of the club
and run it.
Speaker 6 (08:23):
You seem to like his new team, the Raiders deep
you know guy again we talked about a guy who
were in their seventies coaching. Is there is there an
opportunity for Pete Carroll to do some damage here in
the A S.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
West Well, Bill, the Raiders were bad at quarterback and
they I thought Antonio Pearce was a really good motivator.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
I thought he was a really good motivator. He didn't
have much to work with.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
But they've made change as GM coach, quarterback, offensive coordinator,
They're gonna be a really good team. They gave last
year bad at quarterback, gave Kansas City real problems. So
I think, I mean, I'm honest. I think every team
in this division is winning minimum eight games. I think
it's the best division in football. It's easily the best
coach division in football. I think it's the best. I
(09:09):
think it's the best division in football by a margin,
because I don't think the Raiders O line is set.
Got a starback, OC head coach, they're probably. They have
a weapon, he's a tight end. I think they're probably,
And their defense wasn't terrible last year. It was all
banged up. I think they're probably a defensive tackle and
(09:31):
one more receiver away. I think they're a pretty decent roster,
I really do. I think the Raiders have players.
Speaker 6 (09:36):
Wait away from what like a wildcard contention, or like
way maybe away from a wild cards.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
You know, I don't think there as good as Denver,
the Chargers of the Chiefs. I don't think the personnel
is But if you told me they beat each one
of those teams once if they knocked off the Chargers,
the Chiefs and the Broncos, if they knocked them off,
they split the series.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Would In fact, I kind of think that's what's going
to happen.
Speaker 8 (09:57):
It's not bad.
Speaker 6 (09:58):
You know a lot of people like when we go
back and forth on stuff, you can't say an AFC
West is the best division.
Speaker 8 (10:03):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (10:04):
NFC North, we need to do a tail of the
tape coaches quarterbacks because I think it NFC.
Speaker 8 (10:09):
North has a slight edge.
Speaker 6 (10:10):
By the way, we talked yesterday NFL scheduling. Folks love
the NFC North. They got a lot of primetime games.
Obviously some of that is location in the country and
market side.
Speaker 8 (10:21):
But yeah, we'll see. On the Raiders, I seven wins,
is that reasonable? Seven?
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Eight? Oh?
Speaker 3 (10:26):
I would bet that.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
What's their overrunner? If it's seven and a half, I
would probably Yeah. I probably wouldn't bet it either way
because I think it's going to be eight or seven.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
But they'll be a again.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
I said this last year when Minnesota was predicted to
be in fourth place. I said, if Minnesota finishes fourth,
I said this last year, it'll be the best fourth
place team easily in the league. If the Raiders finished fourth,
it will easily be the best fourth place team in
the NFL by a long shot.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
All right.
Speaker 6 (10:53):
Next up is Forbes released its list of highest paid
athletes in twenty twenty five. All in this list is
a little surprising. I mean, obviously not at the top
Christiano Ronaldo number one, two and seventy five mil. But
oh my gosh, can you believe Dak Prescott is number
four on the list?
Speaker 8 (11:12):
That I was blown away by that high?
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Does Darry make one hundred and thirty seven million? I mean,
I know he's making sixty from the Cowboys, but off
the field, signing bonus, signing.
Speaker 6 (11:22):
Bonus, but also off the field, man, you're the quarterback
of the Cowboys.
Speaker 8 (11:25):
You are raking in the marketing Gough.
Speaker 6 (11:27):
I just am shocked that he's making more than like
you know, Lebron and MESSI. But that's the power of
the Dallas Cowboys, who you say, I believe is no
longer the America's team.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
They are tied for the third most watched team. I
think they will fill They'll fall to fourth or fifth
most watched team this year.
Speaker 8 (11:46):
Yeah, how about a lot of soccer on the list.
Speaker 6 (11:49):
Surprising boxer on there obviously, Kevin Durant, anything else jump
out to.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
You, No, I mean Dak Prescott, the signing bonus, everybody else.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
You know.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Again, Otani all his money's deferred. Yeah, O Tani's going
to be making. Yeah, he's going to be making one
hundred million dollars four years to come.
Speaker 8 (12:09):
Smart man. Final story Colin is one. Soto was a
Yankee star last season. Now he's with the Mets.
Speaker 6 (12:15):
He's getting ready for the first Subway Series of its
Mets career. Soto says he's excited for what the Yankee
crowd does upon his arrival, adding it's going to be
fifty thousand against one when he gets to the Bronx. Now,
Soto has had a good career against the Yankees. Nine games,
five homers, one point two, seven to four ops. Subway
series should be a good one this weekend in Major
(12:37):
League Baseball, it's.
Speaker 8 (12:38):
A great sports weekend.
Speaker 6 (12:39):
Well, we got a game six tonight, an NBA game
seven Sunday WNBA starts, and the Subway Series.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Yeah, I mean, the football is in the tank in
New York, so why not. I think generally baseball is
like golf. You don't want your sport to get into
your head, like in in hockey, you know, the game
is so fast. In the NFL, you got an utter pass.
If you have, you don't go on a lot. You
don't see a lot of quarterbacks going to slumps. You know,
you don't see a lot of hockey players going to slumps.
(13:07):
You don't see a lot of basketball players go into
prolonged slumps. You see golfers and you see baseball players.
Because there's so much time in between shots or at bats,
stuff gets in your head. I'm interested to watch as
a villain Soto going back to the Bronx, seeing how
(13:29):
well he performed baseball and golfer. Tricky, you can you
can get, you can start overthinking stuff and plummet.
Speaker 9 (13:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (13:36):
I know you were QB one and a basketball star
in high school. I am curious did you ever play baseball?
I don't know if you've talked much about it.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Yeah, but I know at the small level.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
But I mean, we have history of great players struggling,
great all time baseball players struggling, and we've got a
lot of golfers. I mean, I can remember, like it
was David Duvall was the number golfer, one number one
golfer in the world. Like then he wasn't around. So
and you just have you I mean you saw it
with Rory McElroy. Got great players have bad holes. There's
(14:05):
a certain inertia to struggling in certain sports, and it's
almost always the sport where you have a long time
to think about your activity before your activity. Jmck with
the news, Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping
back the heard Line News.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
I was looking at this.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
So Ryan Clark, who works at the other place, said
Mike Tomlin should be able to call his own shot,
which the Steelers don't fire coaches, So that's what's going
to happen. And I've said Mike Tomlin would get a
TV job at Fox or CBS in fifteen minutes. He'd
be great on TV. I think he's a good coach.
I just I think he needs an organization. That is,
(14:44):
I'm not saying hold him accountable, but kind of force
the issue offensively because clearly he's such a defensive guy.
They take way too many red flag guys on the
offensive side and they never work long term. And again
not saying it bad coach, but I think they're just
they have no urgency at quarterback.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
This is and I said this criticism of.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
I forget the coach in Washington a few years ago
to a defensive coach was Ron Rivera. I said, coach,
you got to care more about quarterback, like like the
Andy Reid's moving off Alex Smith, you know, mcveigh's moving
off golf, who was in a Super Bowl. Shanahan's moving
off like Jimmy Garoppolo, who's in a super Bowl. These
defensive coaches, it's kind of a casual approach to the
(15:29):
quarterback position and they're crossing their fingers on Aaron Rodgers.
But I I will say this the one thing that
plays into a strength for the Steelers. If you're going
to be bad, next year is the year to be
bad because you're going to have arch Manning Drew Aller
at Penn State. I just looked at a mock draft
a couple of days ago. There kit at Clemson. There
(15:49):
looks like four or maybe five potential first round quarterbacks,
and there is a saturation point in the league. The
Rams want a quarterback in the first round, but they're
not going to give up the farm to get it
because they want Stafford to play minimum two years, and
he's got a fairly team friendly contract. So they would
love to get a quarterback, but they're not going to
give up multiple first to get a quarterback next year.
(16:10):
It's not an urgency Cleveland needs a quarterback, although I'll
argue that Shador Sanders is better than maybe. You know,
you're gonna have to deal with some noise with Shadur Sanders,
but I actually think he'll be eventually by the end
of the year, the best quarterback they have. I really
believe that over Joe Flacco. So there's a saturation point.
There aren't many teams that need a quarterback now. I
(16:34):
mean the Jets may if Bryce Young continues to improve, Well,
Carolina go get another quarterback. There's not a lot of
them out there. I mean Atlanta got check, New England, check, Washington, check, Chicago, check,
Green Bay, Jordan Love check again. Rams would like one.
They could draft one in the third and just be fine,
(16:54):
all right. Tomorrow's headlines today with Jaymack around the corner
On a Friday in Chicago, It's the Hurt.
Speaker 2 (17:05):

Speaker 6 (18:06):
Tomorrow, it's Baseball Night in America as Matt Olsen and
the Braves take on Alex Brigman in the Red Sox
or the Twins Battle of the Brewers. Check local listings
for the game in your area Tomorrow, sevent eastern on Fox. Well.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
There are a few things Jay Mack and I love
more than future bets in the NFL and college football.
But in the NFL where you for those the uninitiated
here basically Draft Kings, for instance, gives you every NFL team,
and they give you a half six and a half,
seven and a half, eight and a half, nine and
a half, and you have to bet over under. Now,
(18:41):
fans tend to be optimistic and bet the overs where
I think the unders hit at like fifty five or
sixty percent. I've told you I think New England is
one of my overs this year. I think New England's
my safest over. I think they're going to double their
win total. I think Drake may and Vrabel I think
he found his coach. And I thought it was really
(19:02):
one of the more poorly coached teams in the league
last year, combined with a early week roster, but they
spent a ton of money. So as just a celebration
of the NFL schedule release and all things future bets.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Which I love. We should do a.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
Future bet show here coming up, like, spend some real
time on it. It's time for tomorrow's headlines today.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
Takes your time.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Release the headline for the Chiefs and that brutal schedule
next season.
Speaker 6 (19:26):
Well, you know, listen, Che's fans have not been a
fan of my work since I've been on the show. Obviously,
we've taken some shots.
Speaker 8 (19:32):
They've been great. However, the downfall has begun.
Speaker 6 (19:35):
The headline for the Chiefs will be black tie Chopshittal.
Chiefs make formal introduction to five one hundred club.
Speaker 8 (19:44):
Sorry, guys, listen, call it.
Speaker 6 (19:46):
And there's a lot of evidence out here that this
is going to be a tough season for Casey. Yeah,
I know, let's get this out of the way early. Yes,
they have Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.
Speaker 8 (19:54):
Great, they're back. Awesome.
Speaker 6 (19:56):
What about the rest of the team, what about the schedule?
Collin offensive line was embarrassed in the Super Bowl. Okay,
I don't know that it improved just because they got
a backup left tackle from the San Francisco forty nine
ers like, I just don't see the offensive line improvement.
I have questions about the skill position players. Wide receiver
was an issue last year.
Speaker 8 (20:16):
No Rera she Rice? Is he back? What's his situation?
And listen, we all love Travis kelcey.
Speaker 6 (20:21):
He's dating Taylor Swift, He's got a podcast, Ra ra Rah.
The reality is he was not good last year, had
his worst season as a pro since his rookie year.
Speaker 8 (20:30):
And in the playoffs, Colin, he vanished.
Speaker 6 (20:33):
I didn't even get to the schedule yet. They have
a brutal schedule littered with primetime games. Everybody in the
AFC got better. I mean the Buffalo Bills are stacked,
they got an easy schedule. I'm just a lot adds
up here to the potential for an eight or nine
win team. And I know, because that hasn't happened, Colin,
people can't envision it.
Speaker 8 (20:52):
You know, nothing lasts forever. We know that.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Yeah, I mean McVeigh had a bad season a couple
of years ago, right after a couple of years after.
Like it things, This league is pretty cruel. You get
old fast Tomorrow's headlines today at teams. I think got
took the Bills to win the Super Bowl last year?
What do you think of the Bills this year?
Speaker 6 (21:11):
Close on that one. A couple refs got in the
way in the UH in the playoffs. Just kidding, Yes,
obviously I like the Bills a lot. My problem is
I'm a Jets fan, so I'm conditioned to not like Buffalo.
Speaker 8 (21:22):
However, this is the year bet the over the headline.
Speaker 6 (21:25):
Well, b Alan Wrenched just screws with odds Titan's grip
on AFC. Colin, I believe the Buffalo Bills are the
best team in the NFL right now.
Speaker 8 (21:35):
Their schedule is extremely favorable.
Speaker 6 (21:37):
All their tough games are at home, Colin, and I
got some numbers that are gonna make some people blush
here at home.
Speaker 8 (21:42):
Buffalo kind of.
Speaker 6 (21:43):
Decent twenty six and five, including playoff games the last
three years, including ten and oh last year at home
and everybody that tough that they play this year comes
to Orchard Park. Things are lined up for Buffalo to
not only win the AFC East, but get home field
advantage in the playoffs. And if it has to go
through Buffalo, I don't like anyone's chances of going there
(22:04):
and getting the win.
Speaker 8 (22:05):
Josh Allen is set up Colin, find me.
Speaker 6 (22:08):
The weakness on the Buffalo Bills, because that's what I
was trying to do last night.
Speaker 8 (22:11):
I'm like, where are they deficient?
Speaker 6 (22:13):
I don't see it. They're strong in the trenches, they're
left tackle. Dion Dawkins comes on this show often.
Speaker 8 (22:19):
I'm trying to find a kryptonite, and there really isn't one.
Speaker 6 (22:22):
Josh Allen is at the height of his powers, borderline unstoppable.
I like Buffalo to go over their win total and
actually win the Super Bowl next year.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
Tomorrow's headlines today, I love the Lions as their division
continues to improve.
Speaker 6 (22:38):
Yeah, you hit the nail on the head there. The
division continues to improve, is Detroit. I think that's a
big question. As such, the headline will be bite sized
kneecaps now just being nibbled.
Speaker 8 (22:51):
Sorry, Dan Campbell, I do not love the Lions.
Speaker 6 (22:54):
This year schedule is somewhat daunting a lot of outdoor games.
Speaker 8 (22:57):
They are early, so they could possibly weather.
Speaker 6 (23:00):
Yes, you like the pun on weather, but I looked
around this division, Colin, and nobody had the brain drain
that Detroit did. They lose their offensive coordinator who's now
with you in Chicago, and they lose Aaron Glenn, who's
now in New York. Those were two of the most
highly thought of coordinators around the league. Last year they
were excellent and now they're both gone, and you've talked
a lot about replacing guys.
Speaker 8 (23:21):
Do you get someone from in the building? Do you
go outside.
Speaker 6 (23:24):
We've seen Philadelphia go outside to bring in offensive coordinators
and it's been a little bit clunky. Obviously, Goff is excellent.
The offensive line is superb, maybe the best unit in
the league. But I look at the division. Chicago undeniably
got better, Green Bay I think got a little better
on the offensive side of the football. And you know,
I'm all in on Minnesota and JJ McCarthy. So unfortunately
(23:48):
I have the Lions going under their win total in Colin.
The more we get into August, I think you got
to really look at this team possibly missing the playoffs
as the NFC got very tough in the offseason.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
Well still like their o line in their front office,
so I'll take them as a playoff team. Tomorrow's headlines
today the Niners and their bakery, their cupcake conveyor belt
of a schedule.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
What say you?
Speaker 8 (24:13):
You know you're the one who always told me, never
take calls.
Speaker 6 (24:16):
When I had a radio show many years ago, don't
ever take calls. Listen, man, the audience is speaking. They
love how you hate the Niners. So I'm going all in.
The headline for the forty nine Ers will be revenge
of the Birds. The Niners praise pocket protectors. Colin, this
schedule is so easy. You look at the top six
(24:37):
quarterbacks in the league. I said five yesterday. I added,
if you want to go Herbert six. They don't face
a top six quarterback in the league this season. It
is absolutely a cakewalk.
Speaker 8 (24:47):
Colin.
Speaker 6 (24:47):
I know you're not gonna like this, but things are
lining up for the Niners to be the number one
seed in the NFC, just based on the schedule, you know,
and home field advantage again, the pretty thing we could
talk at nauseum. It's still not signed. But there's no
drama around rock Perty, right. There's been more drama around
Caleb Williams here in the last forty eight hours than
(25:08):
there has been around rock Perty at all.
Speaker 8 (25:10):
I know he wasn't great last year.
Speaker 6 (25:11):
Cimac back and healthy, okay, Ricky Piersoll looks like he's
gonna be healthy this season. The defense had a lot
of changes, but Robert Sala back as defensive coordinator.
Speaker 8 (25:20):
I like that a lot. And Kyle Shanahan has talked.
Speaker 6 (25:23):
If you read some of his quotes, Colin get get
really granular. It sounds like he's gonna change the offense
because they've become a little predictable. And I think they're
gonna go more two tight end sets and they're gonna
look a little different.
Speaker 8 (25:35):
Colin, this is a thirteen win team. Start to come
to grips with it. Brock Purdy is gonna be an
MVP candidate.
Speaker 6 (25:42):
The Niners are gonna hit their win total and keep
an eye on them. Going back to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
Tomorrows headlines today finally the last future beat the Patriots
and Mike Frable.
Speaker 6 (25:56):
I say this all the time as the Jets guy.
I do not like the Patriots. I I could not
stand the dynasty. But man, they've got something cooking in
New England. The headline will be when Drake May hits
his guy like kay Z or the why pat somebody. Yeah,
they're gonna be good this year. Seven and a half
is the win totals we talked about earlier.
Speaker 8 (26:16):
Yeah, Colin, based.
Speaker 6 (26:18):
On the schedule, I mean you want some good news
if you're a Patriots fan. They open with Vegas at
Miami versus Pittsburgh, Carolina, New Orleans throwing a little Tennessee
and Cleveland.
Speaker 8 (26:31):
Colin.
Speaker 6 (26:31):
All those teams have win totals that are that are
below five hundred. It looks good for New England. Could
start of their first eight games, seven of them are winnable.
There's a world where New England comes out of the
gate six and two, five and threes in play Listen,
I don't like to give you credit all the time.
Speaker 8 (26:48):
Obviously it's a Colin Coward show. He's the man.
Speaker 7 (26:50):
Yo.
Speaker 6 (26:51):
You nailed this with the New England Patriots. This is
a playoff team in the in the loaded AFC. I
mean the roster they spent a lot. I thought the
draft was solid.
Speaker 8 (27:01):
Colin. You match up their roster with the Bengals roster. Okay,
you tell me who's got a better roster. I don't
think the Patriots.
Speaker 6 (27:08):
Are far off from being like a legit. Oh my gosh,
could this team come out of the eighth.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
We did something yesterday and I said, we called it
our math, right Like, if you look at the difference
between Nathaniel Hackett and Sean Payton. It was probably a touchdown,
like from a coach who's at best as a coordinator,
probably a position coach to a great head coach at
Geradmeyo was a bit over his skis right, never been
a head coach to Vrabel, who's a top ten coach.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
I think minimum that's a field goal.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
If you add a point to a point and a
half for eleven draft picks, three hundred and seventy million
dollars in free agency, and Drake May year one to
year two, I could add another half point for the
weakest schedule outside of the Niners in the league. It's
very realistic to think they're six and a half to
seven points better this year. That I mean, Denver was
(27:58):
just that on the coaching between Hackett and Peyton. If
they're six and a half to seven points better, if
they were last year, they would have won ten games.
And they have a much better roster this year. And
I also think the Jets will be weaker because they
won't have Aaron Rodgers. And I think Miami will be
weaker because I think they're trending backwards. So I don't know,
I just think New England's kind of an easy play
(28:18):
for me. You know, I was thinking about this. I
was thinking about this. So New York sports has had
a really dry run, and tonight the Knicks obviously are
hosting with Celtics with a chance to wrap it up.
And Juan Soto is going back to play against as
a met going back metro good team right now, going
back to play the Yankees where he was formerly a star.
(28:40):
And one of the things about the NFL, the NBA
is a bit of a glamour league. New York's a
glamour city. Finally got it to NBA act together. New
York Baseball is a money sport. I mean, you got
more money, you can buy better players. Well, New York's
be one of our richest cities. So in New York
and in basketball, new York's in a really good space.
(29:02):
Football market size is irrelevant, glamour's irrelevant. I mean Baltimore,
Green Bay, Kansas City, Buffalo, it's can you draft the
right quarterback and can you find the right coach?
Speaker 3 (29:14):
So New York's in the.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
Toilet for football, but money they're fine, and basketball finally
a glamour sport. They've assembled a really good roster. Here's
Jalen Brunson on Game six tonight and the Celtics not
having their best player, inarguably Jason Tatum.
Speaker 9 (29:33):
Yes, they're missing a big piece, but like I said before,
I mean they're a team, a well orened machine that
has been in situations where they play without them and
so and they've played well, and we need to understand
that and we need to i mean, trust a game
plan and play accordingly.
Speaker 3 (29:50):
It's that simple. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Well, the good news you usually get a slightly friendlier
whistle at home, and the NBA is allowing much more physicality,
so that bodes well. Celtics, however, are a weird team,
a much better all year long, a much better road
team than a home team. And I've said this is
(30:17):
a weird NBA champion, Like their star player isn't the
MVP of the conference finals or the finals last year.
Their star player is like overly collaborative at times, their
net rating is better, they're seventeen and three when their
best player doesn't play, and they're also better on the road.
(30:38):
So they're a funky, a weird championship team. Jalen Brown
on having to carry more of the load without Jason Tatum.
Speaker 11 (30:49):
Just be you know, be whuaya, And I think that's it,
you know, just be myself, comel aggressive, and you know,
get it done in multiple ways. You know, it's a
team where we've always been a team. I've always preached team,
I've done whatever, you know to kind of push this
(31:11):
team for us. So whatever is needed on me, you know,
I'm excited to be able to, you know, facilitate in
whatever role.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
So it's interesting.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
You would think a defending NBA champion with a huge brand,
the Boston Celtics, would be better for the league to win,
But I find Jalen Brunson so incredibly easy to root
for the next crowd, which is you know, it's like
the old Laker crowds with Jack Nicholson. Like there's stars
(31:42):
everywhere that I think, And I know New York's a
bigger city, but New York doesn't really matter necessarily in
the NFL. I don't think that is the be all,
end all rating market size in the NBA. But I
do think this is the rare moment when the underdog
in the series without like a I mean, Jalen Brunson's
huge in New York, but he's not a top four
(32:03):
or five marquee star. I think the Knicks are an
easier watch. I think they're more fun. I think they're grittier,
they're tougher. I think the New York crowd matters. I
think the league's better off. It's Knicks win tonight.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
I really do. And I like New York to win close,
but win
