Find your local station for The Herd at Fox Sports

Sports Radio. All right, here we go, stuff changing minute

(00:26):
by minute, live in La. It's the Herd wherever you
may be, however you may be listening iHeartRadio, Fox Sports Radio,
F one. A lot of things happening in joint I's live.
We were at a party last night. It was a
very big deal. We were beautiful, really were attracted. And
Joio is this sometimes depends on the lighting. So we
get a big deal today, Mike Evans, Emanuel Sanders coming up.

(00:47):
But the big trade. Yes, and this is a trade deadline,
as we've always said, NBA and NFL general managers and
wait for our show to go on to break news
to give it to you to America. We appreciate you.
We really appreciate that. GM, Gerald Morey and the Brooklyn
Guy listen. The NBA is not complicated. Whoever gets the
star wins the trade and a lot of yours I'm getting.
I just went to the interweb and I'm looking at

(01:08):
the angry bird here and a lot of you people
are saying this. You're saying, well, have you watched Harden
this year? Harden isn't even time out. Harden's unhappy. We
know who he is when he's unhappy. In Houston, he
just put on weight, he didn't even practice. You get,
you get two things with Harden. Engaged Harden, which is
about ninety percent of his career. He's an All Star,

(01:30):
he's a top ten player in the league. You get
I'm not happy. I'm gonna go a wall Harden. I've
seen that happen twice. And you get which you get.
But the idea that we're all just the same person
all the time. Have you ever been in a bad relationship,
you're cranky, start fights. You ever been in a good relationship,

(01:51):
you go the extra mile for your partner. Harden was unhappy,
he wanted out. Harden's gonna be engaged. Happy James Harden,
he's really good. Notice beuting he this whole year. Remember
there was a moment earlier in this year, Joy, it
was so Kyrie it was the world was talking back

(02:13):
says and everything, and there were some NFL quarterbacks not
getting back but didn't like that. And Kyrie didn't get vaxed,
and that was a bunch of nonsense to us. I'll
just speak for me. I didn't. I didn't think that
was cool to be a teammate and not get vaxed. Whatever,
be that as it may. Kevin Durant, so Kyrie wasn't
around right because it stayed in New York, wouldn't let
you in buildings and stuff. So they asked Kevin Durant

(02:35):
about Kyrie. It's a moment he goes, I don't know.
I haven't talked to him. Exquise me, you haven't talked
to him. That said it all. Katie was being a
good guy, but you know, world as flat, Kyrie was
out in his own world. Well, James Harden he comes

(02:55):
there and he's thinking, all right, now, what's going on here?
So Katie sometimes has hurt Kyrie's not available. Remember that
period where James Harden basically had to carry the basketball
team last year and he played so many minutes and
he really played good basketball, and he got hurt. He
broke down physically because he came into the year. Last year,
Harden did out of shape, so we kind of had

(03:16):
to play himself into shape. And then guys, Kyrie's not available,
and this guy's hurt not available, and he's basically Harden
got banged up at the end of last year. So
the whole thing has been rocky for James Harden. He
had to kind of play his way into shape and
the Kyrie situation, so I think very quickly. And then
a story broke two weeks ago that Harden didn't love Brooklyn,

(03:38):
didn't love the team. So we've got to be honest
with this. James Harden has checked out, and we've seen
him do it before. He checked out a couple weeks ago. Now,
that's about ten percent of his NBA career. Ninety percent
is guys. Gamer, guy scores, guy, play hard, guys on
the rafts. He wants the calls. He's great at the line.
There's a lot of good with James Harden. Little pouty

(04:00):
stuff I don't love. I said about Aaron Rodgers nine percent.
Aaron I love ten percent. Too much drama for me.
But he can play right like great is great. So
the Sixers got a great player. Who's gonna be totally
engaged in a much better relationship. They're gonna be great
now if Simmons is you know, gets his head right,
get his get his metals right. Simmons is actually a

(04:23):
lot of what Brooklyn needs. A long, good defender doesn't
have to you don't have to create shots for him.
He's gonna give you seventeen a night driving the basket,
scoring at the rim. He is more length. They needed that.
I mean, he's a really really good athlete. And they
don't need another ball centric guy. I mean, Kyrie is
good enough to play off the ball. Durant plays off

(04:45):
the ball. So there's there's some things. I never loved
the Brooklyn team because my takeaway is Kyrie and and
Harden or just ball heavy ball usage guys. They need
the ball. You're seeing what's happened with Lebron who like
the ball, and Westbrook. It doesn't work. Like Westbrook can't
play off the ball because he's not a shooter. Clay

(05:06):
Thompson's great off the ball. Steph Curry actually as a
point guard can play off the ball. He runs around
the floor. Westbrook can't. Kyrie and Harden they need it,
you know, they need it. So, um, Brooklyn could be interesting.
Jersey of Philadelphia is gonna be good, good fast. Now,
chemistry issues, learn the offense, you know, there's stuff to learn.

(05:29):
But I think we have a history in this league.
Get the Star. That's the league. It's not it just um.
I can remember years ago when Miami got Shack and
the Lakers got They got a bunch of stuff. Everybody's
all sided in the end, that stuff that won't any
good until they got Paal Gasol, who is another star
with Kobe Bryant. So all right, it's bringing Rick Bukerum,

(05:53):
Fox Sports NBA guy. All right. So my takeaway is
real simple, and the NBA get the Star. You're a
better team. Also think James Harden win engaged is money.
I like I think Philadelphia today, Well give him eight
games together, give him, give him, give them three weeks.
I wouldn't want to play Philadelphia in the playoffs in

(06:14):
a month and a half, two months. That's my takeaway
as Philadelphia is the winner today. Your thoughts, I disagree wholeheartedly.
I don't believe that anybody is a winner. Because we've
got James Harden forcing his way to a second team
in as many seasons. I'm all for player empowerment, but
this really changes the dynamic of when it comes to

(06:35):
every star player in terms of how they feel about
where they are and if they like what's going on
around them. There's no patience now, and that makes it
really difficult to build title contending teams. I have my
doubts about exactly how the James Harden, Joel and Beat
combination is going to work. Joel em Beat has been
an MVP candidate because everything has run through him. Now

(06:59):
you've Gotmes Hardened and you've got to feed two mouths here.
I simply I believe that the Nets ultimately wanted to
take enough pieces away from the Sixers that it would
impair their ability to play for a title that it
would essentially be m Beat and Hardened and not a
whole lot else. I don't know that they fully accomplished that,

(07:21):
But for the same reason that James Harden struggled playing
with Kevin Garnett excuse me, Kevin, Kevin Durant and Kyrie
Irving making all the pieces fit in Philadelphia, I don't
see a way in which it's going to be any better. Honestly,
I see a trade between these two teams, and I

(07:43):
think they took them both themselves, both out of title contention.
If I'm the Miami Heat or I'm the Milwaukee Bucks,
I'm a static at seeing this happen because you've got
two teams that are basically starting over with about a
month and a half to go before you're in the
before you start to play. Okay, So Brooklyn got Simmons,
Seth Curry draft picks, and Andre Drummond. Now that's news.

(08:06):
I hadn't known that. So Andre Drummonds a big, physical guy.
I think he made an All Star team or two.
What is I mean? The Hall? The hall is Brooklyn
got a hall. A lot of it comes down to this.
I have no idea what I get with Simmons, do
you Yeah? No? And again from what we're hearing as

(08:26):
of right now, it's going to take him some time
from a mental health standpoint, supposedly to get himself prepared
to play. We already know physically he hasn't been playing
the entire season. What's been one of the biggest issues
that the Nets have had their continuity and their ability
to get everybody together and on the same page. The
idea that they're going to bring in a Ben Simmons

(08:48):
who is going to play very different than at James
Harden and presumably is going to have the ball in
his hands. If he doesn't, I don't know how he
impacts this game, this team overall, all of that has
to be worked out, and the idea that you're going
to do that and somehow get past the Milwaukee Bucks,
who essentially brought the same team back and simple and

(09:11):
amplified it in the best ways possible, or the Miami Heat,
who have had their core together the entire seasons. It's
a recipe for not working right now. And as we've
seen with James Harden making this decision, there's no patience
to say, yeah, you know what, it's not working right now.

(09:32):
Let's give it a couple of years and see if
we can bake something out of it. So I again
I will say it. I feel as if these two
teams have taken themselves out of immediate title contention by
making this move. I want to ask you about this.
The three best teams in the league to me are Milwaukee,
Phoenix and Golden State. Golden State's a little beat up
right now, but I think once they get healthy They've

(09:53):
got a mix of young and old, some size. I
don't think they have to make a move. I think
they could beat Phoenix. It's who's health. I think they
could steal a game on the Phoenix home court. Do
you believe? Do you believe the Warriors or a championship
team without a move? I do not now making a
big move, simply that I believe, once again, much like

(10:17):
last year, the buyout market is potentially going to be
more important to the title contenders than the trade market.
And if they can pick up a big Robin Lopez
some other big man to amplify their front court, then
I believe that's an important ingredient to what they have.
I'm not buying that Kevon Looney and Draymond Green is

(10:40):
going to be enough size for them to get past
the Milwaukee Bucks to win a title. With the Milwaukee
Bucks or even with the Phoenix Suns and DeAndre Ayton,
I believe that they have to get they have to
improve on that front. But outside of that, yes, I
think they're capable of getting it done. But I said
at the beginning of the year, and I feel better
about it now more so than I did then, Which

(11:05):
is that we were going to see a replay of
last year's finals. We were going to see the Phoenix Suns. Yeah,
and the Milwaukee Bucks meet once again, and everything is
pointing in that direction. All right, good stuff, Rick Buker,
he doesn't like the deal. I am a believer in
hardened star power. Will make it work. Give me, give
me forty five days and I'm gonna go with it.
But you know, Bukes, you and I. You're a star guy.

(11:28):
You're a star guy. Colin, You're a star and you're
a believer in star So I understand that mindset. Yes, yes,
you like those grinders. I'm all about points and buckets.
All right, Bukes. Good seeing your Rick Buker. Fox Sports.
It's fun, like trades are fun. NBA trade deadline. There's
always a lot of talk and nothing ever gets done.
It's all smoke and no real fire. And now I

(11:49):
feel like I got something. Lakers still in the clock.
Lakers have thirty eight minutes. Let's make it happen. I
would not trade westbrook for John wall I would not.
My opinion, no way, I'll take Westbrooks energy. I think
Lakers fans this one. Any kind of movement at this
point well, that's a bad strategy. That's just selling a stock.

(12:10):
To sell a stock, you gotta have a better stock
to buy. Be sure to catch live editions of The
Herd weekdays in noon Easter nine am Pacific on Fox
Sports Radio FS one and the iHeart Radio app. Terry
Bradshaw still has plenty of money to give away, so
Fox Bet Super six is running Stack the Cash one
more time this football season. Scanned the QR code, download
the Super six app and enter your picks in the

(12:32):
Super Bowl contest for your chance to win, and about
your friends too, because the more people who enter, the
bigger the Jackpott gets. Mike Evans eight years in the NFL,
a four time pro bowler on his way to a
Hall of Fame career. You say had a thousand yards
in every season. That's a lot of bank right there.
You got you put you put a lot of deposits

(12:52):
in the bank so far. You know what's interesting, Mike,
You got a lot of free agents on this team,
Ryan jen Bronk, Chris Godwin. I think Lenny Furnatt, you
got a lot of guys, And I think to myself,
do you just start over? Do you get some draft picks, like,
how do you feel if you're not saying that you'd
run the club, but if you did kind of you know,

(13:14):
it's a weird time, Chris, Like, you got a super Bowl,
two great years, but there's a lot of you can
only pay so much in this league. Do you feel
like it's maybe gonna be a little bit of a
transition year post Tommy? I'm not sure. I'm not sure.
Obviously we're gonna miss Tom. That's a huge blow. One
of the best teammates ever, obviously the best player of

(13:35):
all time, most accomplished player in sports history. But I
mean he definitely helped instill a lot of things in
this program. We got a lot of core guys and
young guys on this team that will be back. Hopefully
we can get most of our free agents back, but
we definitely trust the front office and the coaching staff.
Brady's a fascinating guy. If I said, give me two

(13:57):
things Mike that you took away from Tom that either
you didn't know or that surprised you, or just two
things about Tom that you will always remember. I always
remember how he attacked the game and how he prepared.
I mean, I've heard about it. I mean, obviously you
have to be prepared if you're that accomplished, But the

(14:18):
way he prepares, it's probably nobody prepares like him. He
made sure everybody knew what they were doing weekend, week out.
He put in the work, win or lose. He's gonna
prepare the same way. And the way he took care
of his body. He brought the TB twelve facility to Tampa,
and man, it wasn't helpful. You know, I missed one
game in the last two years, had a lot of injuries,

(14:38):
but the injury process went faster. I recovered faster, but
you know, having TB twelve there. So I mean those
two things where I always remember that. How about Gronk
is a teammate. I worked with him at Fox for
a year. I thought he was a riot. I loved him.
There's something about it. He's crazy, but he's you know,
he's he always plays like the silly guy, but he's

(15:00):
a little smarter than people think. Like the dude knows
he knows how to get open. Man. He say, what
you want, you put a zone up. That dude finds
the creases. What do you make a Gronk I was
I was just telling somebody the same thing about Gronk.
I mean, he tricks you, he's super smart. He is
always goofy all the time, but that's just his personality.
He's a really smart guy, best tight end ever play,

(15:22):
great teammate. Man. I love Gronk. I hope you get
him back, but you know, we'll see. But man, having
him as a teammate was definitely a pleasure. So you
had you lost to the Rams twice, you ate him up.
You ate the Rams up. In fact, I'm looking at
you had sixteen catches, two hundred and twenty five yards,
a couple of touchdowns, but they got the best of you, guys.

(15:43):
So when you face them, what's the part about the
Rams defense that is really difficult? Talk about how they're coached,
their personnel, are they a physical defense? What did you
make because you had a lot of success, Mike, Well,
the first game, I didn't have what's this? You know
we were losing the whole game, and uh, I got
those yards at the end of the game. But you

(16:05):
know this, this next game, I did a little bit better,
but started slow. But their defense, their front seven obviously
gets it started. The D line's nasty and on the
back end. They got veterans and they're smart. Ramsey one
of the best corners in the game, very versatile. He
coul play at the nickel spot, or he can follow
the number one receiver. Schematically, they don't really do anything.

(16:28):
They play one high cover three man. That's they're gonna
give you and let those pass rishes get after you. Interesting, Mike,
you have certainly earned the right. Eight years in the NFL,
you're on your way a couple more years. You're gonna
be a Hall of Fame player. You've earned the right
to having that. Yeah, there's no question, and you've earned
the right to me, you've been a consummate pro that

(16:51):
your consistency, your work ethic, you're a big player receiver.
You have earned the right to have an opinion on
the back Sitting down with Jason Light and say, hey, man, Jason,
you know this guy's out there. That guy's out there
if they came to you. I got nothing against the
guys you got in house. I got nothing against him,

(17:12):
but this roster, I saw it win a Super Bowl
two years ago. Like, this is not a rebuild roster.
Would you go to Jason and say, hey, let's let's
go get a veteran quarterback. Here, let's run this. Let's
run this puppy back. Would you be cool with that?
I wouldn't do that, Yeah, I mean, if he asked
me who I preferred, obviously I'd give my you know, input.
But you know, I'll just come to work. Like you said,

(17:35):
I'm a pro man. I'm just blessed at being his position.
I'm just all about my craft and you know, making
myself the best player I can beat whoever the quarterback is.
You know, Tom will tell, but you know, I just
gotta make sure I'm doing my best to get open
for whoever it is. Yeah. Um, I gotta ask you
about Antonio Brown bummed me out heating. To be honest

(17:55):
with you, I mean, it's literally, his personality is the
opposite of yours. I got nothing to get him. But
in that moment you tried to talk him out of it.
I think I think the videos you trying to talk
him out of it in the next five minutes after
that moment, what in God's name was going through your mind? Well, well,
obviously we didn't. I didn't see what happened because we
were on offense and we were trying to get him

(18:17):
to go back in the game. Um, he's an all
time great player. Like you know, we we definitely could
have used him, you know in the playoffs. Um. I
was just telling them. I was like, big bro, don't
go out like this, like you know, we need you. Um,
you know, don't don't go out this way. And uh,
you know I had to go back in the game, yeah,
because it was about to be third down. I think

(18:37):
it was second down, and then they needed me to
go in, so you know, I had to go in.
And you know, we saw this after like a TV timeout.
It was a TV timeout and then we saw it
kept replaying it, and that's just it was an unfortunate situation.
I'm surprised he did that, but you know, he's an entertainer.
I guess just somebody. Uh, Mike Evans for Planters. By

(18:59):
the way, I already knocked down two bags today. Joy
will tell you I live on Planters peanuts constantly. At
the Super Bowl Planters Peanuts, Deluxe MC nuts altogether. One
of a time. You see it behind him, you are
looking at one of the great players in the NFL.
Mike Evan, what do you do in the offseason? You
stay in Tampa, hang out at Ebor City, drink cocktails

(19:20):
and hang out in a boat. What do you do? No,
I'll go back to Texas, man. I live in Houston
from Galveston, Texas, live in Houston. I'll go back and chill.
My family. Were all a lot of basketball games, UFC,
boxing matches, things like that. All right, buddy, Hey, thanks
for coming on the show man before I go, yeah, yeah,

(19:40):
how do you eat your mixed nuts? I don't do.
I do salted only, dude. I'm very you can tell
from me. I'm in very good shape. I do only
the best pure peanuts, little planters oil, a lot of salt.
I'm addicted to salt. And look at you. Don't look
like me at fifty eight, Mike, seeing these traps, See
what's going on here? That's protein, baby, I go. You'll

(20:04):
plant at Calvin all right, Mike Evans Planters great seeing him,
unbelievable talent. I remember watching him at Texas A and
m like, all right, nobody wants to guard that dude.
All right, we got NBA trades. James Harden's a sixert
Rick Puger didn't like the He didn't like to move
at all for anybody, anybody he was just mister buzzkill.

(20:26):
I'm over here set in the world. Rick is very
you know, he's coming from a very rational, you know,
analytic place. You know he's not He's not us hyperbolic
opinion people who are you know, reacting, But we know
what happens. The idea that people don't change the reality
is especially let's be honest, stars tend to be in

(20:47):
all walks of life, Hollywood and NFL, little pampered, little pampered,
and so when they don't get their way, it can
be a little pouty. Okayone does that. It's not just stars.
Everyone does that. So James Harden a couple of times
in his careers, don't a little flips swipt, you know,
he gets to the Sweatchee flips a little bit poudy James,

(21:09):
and then engage James. Right, So, am I supposed to
believe in a month and a half, you got Maxie,
you got Ambat, you got Tobias Harris, you got a
good coach, got all. They won't be able to figure
it out. I always, I always believe in a trade,
get me the most talented player, and stars figure it out.
It didn't take Kobe and Gasol long. It just does
a mid season. I mean it's literally they also break

(21:31):
is next weekend, So I don't know. I kind of
tend to agree with Brick as far as that goes, Like,
do I think I think they're better because they're getting
a player like Ben Simmons wasn't playing. If Ben Simmons
was playing and he wasn't playing, well, then that is
a different situation. But they didn't have Ben Simmons on
the floor at all. So you're getting the scoring of
James Harden. You're getting an engaged James Harden. Is it

(21:54):
going to work as far as to find work? Like?
Are they going to win a couple of series in
the playoffs? I think so? Sure? Are they gonna win
an NBA championship because of this, right? And I don't
think so. I don't think this year now, Next year, yes,
But I don't think you could just plug and play
in today's NBA in this way and whenever time Kevin
Durant and I'm looking around, I got Kyrie can play
every other game. Andre Drummond, I don't want him near

(22:16):
the free throw line. Yeah, I think everybody is just
saying that the nets one because they don't like what
they've seen from Harden this year, which I think is
it's not that it's unfair. We know that Harden does this,
that's his personality. I just I have no idea, Like
I know I've seen hard and be able to turn
it on. I have no idea what Ben Simmons is
going to do. And you still only have Kyrie four

(22:37):
away games. Joey Taylor with the news, Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news to sticking with the
trade deadline. It's less than an hour away. Will end
at the end of our show. Stay here for all
the updates. We've already seen the nuts and six years
trade and obviously everyone is keeping their eye on the Lakers.

(22:58):
They have been in the conversations of wanting to move
Russell Westbrook. I don't think that will happen. They can
only move him for John Wall because of Westbrook's salary.
It's not like they can just this idea. They have
a bunch of lollary. Is the salary? I mean, well,
the salary is one thing. And also what's happened with
Westbrook in LA is not doing him or the Lakers
any favors in this spot. It's been incredibly toxic. So

(23:18):
if you're a team that's a contender, you don't want that,
even if you could afford him. And if you're not
a contender, why are you in the conversation for Westbrook anyway?
Like how what's he going to do make you somewhat
relevant for the rest of the second half of the season,
So it's not really. They were also interested in making
a deal for Josh Richardson with the Celtics, but they
traded him to the Spurs. The Bucks sent Sergeibaka to

(23:40):
the Clippers and a four team deal. The Pacers sent
him onto Sabonis, Jeremy Lamb and Justin Holiday and a
twenty twenty three second round pick for Tyrese Haliburt and
Buddy Heald and Tristan Thompson. That happened a few days ago, obviously,
the Blazer's trade with CJ McCullum. The Celtics are moving PJ.
Dozier and Bobol to the Magic in a cost cutting deal.
The Wizards are sending Aaron Holliday to Phoenix, and the

(24:01):
Hornets are acquiring Manchez Harold for Vernon Carey and Ish Smith.
And yeah, so there's there's some things happen Gon Drag
to the Spurs for sad young Raptors in San Antonio.
So there's a there's a lot going on. There's a
couple more one trades. It will probably come down before
the next half an hour, but the big one is
obviously watching to see what the Lakers do. So the

(24:23):
Jacks hired Doug Peterson as our next head coach. He's
an offensive coach and he will be inheriting Trevor Lawrence
at his second year in the league, and he is
excited to get to work with this new coach. I
really like him. I'm really excited. I'm really excited for
the future. You know, I've talked to him, spoken, I've
spoken with him a couple of times and really just
impressed by who he is. I think personality wise, we're

(24:46):
gonna jail really well. I think we're pretty similar and
just knowing you know, he played the position. He's an
offensive guy and really did a great job in Philly,
especially early on. Like, I was just really impressed by that.
And you know, we talked ball a little bit and think,
well on the same page. So I'm excited to get back,
get back to work, learn this new system and get
with the guys and really start clicking and getting ready

(25:08):
for the season. It's still Jacksonville. But of all of
the hires I do, I think I feel the most
optimistic about this one and the Raiders, mostly because of
the quarterback situation. I think Trevor Lawrence was dealt a
terrible disservice in his first year in Jacksonville. We never
even really talked about him. It was really bad for

(25:29):
the league. Like Trevor Lawrence was, he was, Andrew luck
like he was. We were talking about him being in
the league in his in his freshman year of college,
and for him to get to the NFL and deal
with that his first year, it was bad. It's just bad,
like it's just it's just negative. Like he has the
potential to be a superstar. We saw what he did
in college. So I like this hiring of Doug Peterson.

(25:50):
I would have liked Byron left Which as well, but
not if they weren't going to get rid of Bulky,
because you don't want to match a coach and GM
that aren't getting along. I would have taken left Which
over Balky. But I think they're in a good situation,
and clearly they're getting along, which is, you know, obviously
an important thing in today's society. Everybody's got to get along.
So Kyler Murray raised some eyebrows this week he deleted
all the Cardinals mentions off of his social media, which

(26:11):
brought up some questions about whether he's happy in Arizona.
His teammate wide receiver Christian Kirk, who is entering free agency,
admitted that his future is tied to Kyler Murray's. He said,
anytime you get to play with a quarterback like Kyler,
you want to be part of it. My thing is
always whenever I'm out there, I want to be with
the I want to be the best that I can
to help him along. He's one of the best quarterbacks
in the league, and that's the facts. It'll definitely have
a deciding factor. Here's the thing about the Kyler Murray situation.

(26:36):
Though he's in the fourth year of his rookie contract,
the Cardinals still have to decide whether they're going to
pick up his fifth year option. The deadline is May second,
but then he can be franchise tag three times. So
what's he gonna do Is he gonna force his way
he's gonna ask for a way out. Like they completely
control where he is for the next for the next
three years. They could they theoretically could have him through

(26:58):
the twenty twenty six season. Yeah, like they have control
over Kyler Murray. Yeah, now they should pay him. And
I don't even know why this would be this would
ever become a contentious situation. I think the one The
only thing I worry about is I've watched this smaller
athlete back to back years get hurt and be a
different player late than early. That's the only thing I
worry about. You know what, I if I could ideally
do it, frantise him for one year with a promise

(27:22):
it goes. But what if he gets hurt a third
straight year and it's not the same player. What else
are you gonna do? Well? I mean again, I I
don't know. I'll figure it out. I want him, I
want him. Kyler Murray is that good? I mean he's
he obviously has still you know, he's got to stay healthy.
But you're not. You're not doing better than Kyler Murray
on the market. That's just that's not even a question.
And he's a he's a star, he's he's He's not

(27:44):
quite the leadership of a Dak Prescott or you know,
a Joe Burrow, but he's a guy like that. That
is a guy that's what you look for. Yeah, so
the idea that yeah, I mean, it's just it's just
a weird situation. I do still have questions about how
that happened with the social media and why. I don't
necessarily know that it's about the contract. But either way,

(28:06):
don't have us talking about it. If you're gonna pay
Kylie Murray, he's the guy join with the news. Well
that's the news, and thanks for stopping by The Herd

(29:10):
Hustler Turf. Okay. Emmanuel Sanders twelve years in the NFL,
two time Pro bowler. Of course he was drafted by
the Steelers. Steelers know their wide receivers. You have been
in three Super Bowls, one win, two losses, right, yeah, Okay,
So first of all, you get two weeks off, so
the only time you get that kind of rest is
before the season starts. Did you it was it hard

(29:33):
to stay focused? Did you like the two weeks or
would you run or played the following week? I enjoyed
the two weeks. Obviously the first week you're practicing at
the city or the state you in. But once you
get out to the Super Bowl. I remember in twenty
ten when I got made it to the Super Boy
as a rookie, like I didn't know what to expect,
and I felt like I didn't have my phone out enough.

(29:55):
I didn't record, like I don't have any videos, any
pictures of it, right, and we ended up little And
so I remember I told myself, if I ever make
it back to the super Bowl, that second week, when
I go out there, I'm videoing everything fun, right, I'm
having fun, Like I'm video and everything. And so when
we went in twenty and fifteen with the Broncos, the
one that we want, I was, I have my phone
out everywhere. I was recording everything everything. So, uh, you

(30:18):
know that's what That's why I tell the guys too,
if you make it to the super Bowl, make sure
you record everything, have fun and recording and remember because
when you're out there, you feel like, oh, we're gonna
do this again next year and the next year and
the next year. But the chances are very slim. So
uh definitely enjoyed that second week when when the game starts. Um,
it's really interesting how many times in Super Bowls the

(30:39):
first quarter, like Brady never threw a touchdown pass in
the first quarter. It's the feeling out thing. Yeah, did
you feel Manuel, did you feel a little nerves like
it was? It was? It different. It's the biggest game
in the world. But at the same time, I was
telling myself, um, because everybody's nervous, right they are, so,
but in your head, you thinking you're the only one nervous, right,

(30:59):
you know, only one. But I'm looking around the locker
room and I'm looking at the other team and I'm saying,
everybody feels the exact same way that I feel. So
I found comfort in that that everybody is nervous. And
then you know, Gary Kubiak was my coach in Super
Bowl fifty. I mean, the first play went to me,
so I was able to get my hands on the ball,
catch the field and ended up having a really good Gameanteae.
I had like five or six catches for like eighty

(31:20):
some yards and wind it up winning. So I got
those jitters out really really fast. But the entire game though,
like you're just watching, you're scoring, You're riding an emotional
roller coaster. And then like that, when the fourth quarter hits,
you know like I am, you know, fifteen minutes away
from getting a Super Bowl ring God Lord, please let me, Lord,

(31:40):
Please let it be us, Lord, please let it be us.
And I've been on both spectrums twice. I lost one
in one one so but still blessing no matter what. Though.
Now I want to talk about you. You've played with
Josh Allen big Ben. You know the quarterback relationship Stafford
and Cooper Cup. It's unbelievable. Yeah, first year together. Yeah,
one hundred and seventy catches. Why does it work? What

(32:03):
does it take to work? You know? I was I
was just talking to someone and I was telling them
about Cooper Cup. Cooper Cup is transition again. I remember
in twenty ten when I came into the NFL, they
didn't have the ipass to be able to study film
and break down film at your house and study your opponent.
But what I'm hearing about Cooper Cup and Matthew Staffords,
they meet every morning, just them to breaking down film

(32:26):
and doing a lot of stuff to understand coverages and
what teams are doing. And you know, Cooper Cup's that
as a former quarterback as well, so he understands coverages.
He understands this. And I remember it was one play
I was watching at home and I told my wife
I was like, that's a Cooper Cup and Matthew Stafford connection.
It was he had ran like a corner route, but
the split that he had it was like inside leverage

(32:49):
of the inside edge of the numbers, which was like
rare right. And I was like, that's them studying together
because he literally knew that Jakarski Tart the safety was inside.
I ran the corner route and Stafford hit him in
the back of the end zone four textdown, and I
was like, that's that connection of them meeting seven o'clock
in the morning. They're watching film, right, and it's showing

(33:10):
like on you know, at the game. So that's that's
that connection that they have. I remember there's a late
great baseball player, Tony Gwen and he was one of
the first guys I heard of that literally just studied
the picture he was facing. When the game would end,
he wouldn't go home, he'd sit there and watch the
next picture. He could go to sleep, he could think
about it, visualize that picture, and so that stuff works.

(33:31):
So Jamar chasing Joe Burrow. Now they played collegiately together.
Do you think that helps? Uh? Chemistry off the field
um is sometimes more important than on the field. But
how how how how they how they come about? Is
Joe Joe Burrow. First of all, I've become a fan,
and I became a fan probably about six or seven

(33:53):
weeks ago. I was just on his Instagram and just
watching He'll go out and throw the five hundred five
hundred yards in the game, post on Instagram. Fun fun, right,
and then after you know, the AFC Championship game he'd
beat the Chief, he goes and post cardier glasses. I
won't even peak it right like here here it is
a second year guy, you know what I mean, like

(34:14):
going to the super Bowl and just cool, calm and
collective and then uh, you know Jamar Chase, Like think
about this, like this guy is a rookie receiver doing
what he's doing. Like this is special what we're seeing
right now. And it's the reason why this game should
be even hyped up even more because it's a second
year quarterback and and a rookie receiver going at it.
And what a dynamic you know, uh dual they are,

(34:38):
you know, and you know some people say it's Joe Burrow,
some people say Jamar Chase, but you know, I recall
the play versus the Chiefs when they threw him the
curl round and he called the cur round and split
the defenders and had like two twenty two yards. That's
a special talent right there. And he's one of those
guys you gotta watch because he's coming in the league
and doing stuff that I feel like no rookie has
ever done, you know, in terms of what he's doing.

(34:58):
So Brian Dabon now leaves the Bells offensive guy and
goes to the Giants. What separates Brian Dable? I mean,
what what did he bring? Because you've been in this
league now twelve years? Man, what did Brian Dable do?
And you're like, oh, that's that's next level. No, what
Brian da What Brian Davile is is what separate He's
Brian Dable. Like Dable will call me and FaceTime me

(35:21):
more than I've talked to day Ball on the phone
more than any coach that I have in my twelve years,
and he will call me. He just be in a
pool with a cigguard like hey man, I'm doing my life,
Like hey man, like how you doing? Man? I'm drawing
up some plays. I got this play in that play
And he's just so innovative and dynamic, like the way
that he had our offense. You gotta think like that
game that we have versus the Patriots with zero punts

(35:43):
zero you know, you know, like the perfect game as
an offense. It was just he just he's just an innovator.
And the way that he had Josh like scrambling and
the run plays and how he was using Isaiah McKenzie.
I mean, he's just he's one of the realist coaches
and he is who he is. I think his press
conference was the first press conference I watched from a

(36:04):
head coach because I wanted to see if he was
going to continue to be Brian Day. But one of
the realist like people were coaches I've ever been around,
and hearing this press conference, I said, oh, yeah, the
Giants are in good hands because he kept it really
he kept it being himself. And man, I'm rooting for
him and I know that he's gonna do big things
with the Giants. So you had Tomlin defensive coach and
Sean McDermott defensive coaches, and they're both winners and increasingly

(36:27):
Emmanuel a lot the league's going offense like twenty offensive.
I didn't I think twenty or twenty one offensive coaches.
As an offensive player, did you feel a connection to
Tomlin and McDermott's defensive coaches or was it more with
your offensive coordinator. Uh? Well, I felt a connection with
both of them because you know, they would always walk

(36:48):
up to me and talk to me and keep it
real with me. Tomlin treated me like, you know, I
was one of his sons, you know what I mean,
you know, a father figure to me. And then McDermott,
you know, we always talked about you know, he always
wanted to pick my brain and we'll sit down and
lunch and pick my brain about just you know, the
previous Super Bowl teams that I've been on and and
try to you know, get my veteran you know, experience

(37:10):
from that. But as far as the game going offensively,
you know, I've I've been coached by offensive coaches as well,
like Gary Kubiak and guys like that, and for me,
like it don't really matter to me. Obviously, I don't
like when meetings. I'm not really in meetings with Mike
Tomlin and Sean McDermott, whereas even with Gary Kubiak, I
wasn't a meeting with Kubiak as well, you know what

(37:32):
I mean. I think a head coach is supposed to
do their job in terms of managing the team offensive coordinate.
It's supposed to, you know, call the plays and do
their job. And so I I you know, I'm not
a big believer in mixing it up, and I've haven't.
I haven't seen it them my twelve years of experience. Okay,
so twelve years, two time Pro bowler. This year you
had forty two catches, six fifty yards, four touchdowns. You're

(37:53):
a free agent, so it's interesting. So you've shown an
ability and it's uh, it's important you come to a team.
You figured the playbook out fast your day, Like when
you went to the Niners. Five days later you were
playing and producing. So is what will you look at
for free agency? What will matter? Because by the way,
it's just like high school, it's very rare in the NFL.

(38:15):
You get drafted. They can franchise tag. Yeah, so a
lot of these productive players you don't get to be
a free agent. You don't get to be recruited. What
is the number one thing you're looking for? I want
to win, I want to be happy. So you're not
going to a rebuilt. No, I'm not going to a rebuilt.
I want to win and I want to be happy.
But you know, as far as free acy, even right now,

(38:36):
like I'm taking some time and I don't I don't
know what I want to do, uh like even football
in general, Like I don't, I don't know. I'm taking
some time, probably like a month or two, two or
three months. You put some money away, You're fine, you
want Oh yeah, I'm set up. I'm set up really nice.
And you know, I got I got I got my son,
he's getting older. I got a daughter who's getting older.
And past three years, been traveling and moving from team

(38:57):
to team trying to win a Super Bowl. But uh,
you know, I got some reflecting I want to do
when possibly you know, possibly retire or something. I don't
know yet, bro, I'm just feeling it out. But as
far as like if I was too, I definitely have
to go to the team in which you know they're
winning and trying to trying to would you go back
to Buffalo? I go back to Buffalo, you like, pure
a matter of fact? After the game, um, um, you

(39:19):
know versus the Chiefs. You know, Josh Allen was like hey,
let's run it back. And I was like, man like,
let me give me some time to reflect, and uh,
you know see how I feel. But definitely, um, you know,
that game versus the Chiefs was crazy. It was crazy.
Was the craziest game you were ever in. Broke heart, man,
broke my heart thirteen seconds. You know, obviously you know
you think that. You know, we got an opportunity to

(39:41):
move on to the AFC Championship in Buffalo. I wanted
that so bad, not only for myself before the City
of Buffalo AFC Championship game in Buffalo, that would have
been insane, you know what I mean. But you know,
Josh looked at me and told me, hey, let's run
it back. But I told him, I like, let me,
let me, let me get some time to think. What
was the plane ride home from that game, like the

(40:01):
Buffalo what was about? So I didn't I didn't even
ride back on the plane. I stayed. I stayed in
Kansas City with my wife. Um, and you know, uh,
then after I called all the guys because for me,
like being a free agent and knowing where my mind was, like,
goodbyes are so hard for me, you know, Like it's
hard to be like goodbye. It's always you know, see
you later. And so I didn't. I didn't. I didn't
take that plane ride. But one thing that I do

(40:23):
remember is after that game, me, Josh Allen, Stephan Diggs,
and gave Davis, We're all sitting around and it was
just it was like nobody was talking. Everybody was just
trying to just looking out into like nowhere, and and
I could just feel that everybody was like, what am
I gonna wake up from this bad dream? It's no
way that this is just happened. And you know, I

(40:44):
looked around and I told him, I said, what has happened,
has happened. It's not a bad dream. We just lost,
you know, and we lost in that manner. But what
I what I do appreciate is that we just witnessed
two of the greatest quarterbacks of all time going at
it in that type of game, one of the great
games to everlast game of the year exactly, And you know,
it sucks that we were on a short end, but

(41:06):
at the end of the day, you know, it was
still a blessing, you know, to you know, perform like
that Bessie gave Davis, like his performance was insane, you
know what I mean. And I'm just proud of him
as well. All Right, we gotta run. Absolutely great to
seeing you, Emmanuel Sanders. You always take us places that
we wouldn't know otherwise. By the way, weather's bad, don't
change your plans, change your wipers. Michelin wiper blades available

(41:29):
on Amazon Prime. NFL Team Emmanuel Sanders sell him better
be a winner, not interested in mediocrity. We'll see you tomorrow,
live in La. It's the herd.
