You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
But why don't we go back to the NFL and
let's go to Eric Mangini, former Jets head coach. He's
all over TV at f S Wood, always really looking sharp,
although I'm sure he's wearing shorts in this Eric, How was.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Your fourth of July excellent or awesome?
Speaker 5 (00:40):
Or how are we doing?
Speaker 6 (00:42):
It was fourth of July. It was fantastic, had a
bunch of family in town. I had all the boys
at home and great Weather where I was as well,
So couldn't couldn't have asked for more.
Speaker 5 (00:55):
A peak behind the curtain.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
So when I got to f S one, Eric man
Genie started coming on the shows, and I'm sure he
was annoyed, but I would pester him because I'm a
Jets fan.
Speaker 5 (01:03):
I would just pepper him with all these Jets questions.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
And he's really smart and thoughtful, and he would look
at me like, what is this guy's agenda?
Speaker 5 (01:10):
But all I want to know about is my jets.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
So you know you had Brian Schottenheimer as your offensive coordinator. Now,
my memories of him were probably not as great as yours.
I remember him being ultra conservative and boring, no creativity,
and that I thought held.
Speaker 5 (01:25):
You guys back a little.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
But he's now the coach of the Cowboys, and I'm
curious your thoughts on Brian Schottennhimer.
Speaker 5 (01:31):
Is he almost underrated?
Speaker 7 (01:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:35):
When the Cowboys hired him, it wasn't the typical Cowboys
higher right.
Speaker 7 (01:39):
They want to get the splashy name, and.
Speaker 6 (01:44):
Very different offseason for Dallas in general where they're not
over promising like they typically do. So there's a lot
of a lot of negativity around picking Brian. But what
people don't realize is Brian has as quality as any
other first year head coach. He's been in the league
a long time. He comes from a football family. When
(02:07):
I hired him, he was with the San Diego Chargers
at the time, and we had played the Charges of
the year before in New England and their offense was
really difficult to defend. There's shifting and motioning, multiple formations,
very creative and that's something that I wanted to bring
to the Jets, But there were other things that we
(02:28):
wanted to incorporate as well, And in sitting down with Brian,
he had strong beliefs as to what he wanted to do,
but he was open minded enough to incorporate a lot
of other things. Son, we were gonna take elements from
what we did in New England. We were gonna take
elements from what they did in New York prior to
us getting there and what they'd done with the Charges
(02:49):
as well, and build our offense. And that's what I
really like about Brian is that he is he has conviction,
but he's also willing to hear people out and to
incorporate new ideas and to try to innovate, And to me,
that's an undervalued asset for any head coach.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
A little question though is and you can't put a
number on this, but there's some strong personalities on that team.
Adding Pickens obviously to Ceedee Lamb and then Michael Parsons.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
And his podcast.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
There's just a lot going on in Dallas and I
wonder for a first time a head coach.
Speaker 5 (03:28):
I know his dad.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
You know he's been around the league for a long time.
His dad obviously coach forever. Is that a lot to handle?
This is a like it would be much easier. Schottenheimer's
first coaching job was in like Jacksonville, Out of the spotlight.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
Now you've got strong players, strong.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Owner, a lot of National TV games, America's team for
whoever still believes that it just feels like a little
too much for shoddy Well.
Speaker 6 (03:52):
Anytime you bring in challenging personalities, you're gonna have to
navigate through that. Brian's always done a good job relating
to the players that that he's coached, especially the quarterbacks.
He's built long term relationships with all the guys that
he's coached at the quarterback position, and now you have
to expand that out. He did it as well as
an offensive coordinator, but now it's the whole team. Another
(04:14):
thing that's going overlooked is the addition of Matt Eberflus.
And you can say what you want about him as
a head coach, but he's an excellent defensive coordinator and
when he took over, when he took back over in Chicago,
the defense made some significant strides. I think he's going
to be excellent there really as a defensive coordinator. I
think the other thing is he does bring head coaching experience.
(04:37):
He's fresh out of it, he's he's made mistakes, he's
he's gone through different challenges, and him and Brian have
a good relationship and that has significant value as well.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
All right, let's pivot to a team that really matters
this season, the Jets.
Speaker 5 (04:55):
Well, not really, it don't matter. I just for my purposes,
Justin feels.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Aquarterback, new offensive coordinator, new head coach, first time head coach,
and Aaron Glenn. There's so much newness across the board. However,
last year Washington had a ton of newness owner coach, coordinators,
but they had experienced guys like you know, obviously Quinn
had had been to a Super Bowl. Like I just
(05:19):
don't see the Jets being great this year. But is
there a case for Justin Fields to dominate and crush it?
Speaker 7 (05:26):
Well? I'm a big Aaron Glenn fan.
Speaker 6 (05:28):
I coached Aaron Glenn when I was in New York
with Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick, so I know what
type of guy he is. And Aaron has gone through
the process. He started as a scout and then he
worked in personnel and he was an assistant coach coordinator,
so I think that that has a huge value. Plus
(05:49):
he was an exceptional player, so he brings that cache.
He's been with the organization, so that that higher I
thought was great. But he is inexperienced as a head coach,
and there's a lot of guys on a staff that
are in experienced as well. And then then that could
work both ways. That some bit is you're going to
(06:10):
make mistakes that maybe you wouldn't if you had had
gone through it, but there's also some freshness of ideas
that you you're not set in your way, so that
can be valuable as well. In terms of justin fields.
I like the signing in the sense that they've paid
what forty million dollars for two years, which is under
(06:32):
what most significantly under what most quarterbacks are getting for
one and he's improved every year that he's played. And
it hasn't been these gigantic jumps, but he's made he's
made jumps and completion percentage and interception of touchdown ratio
into the amount of sex that he's taken.
Speaker 7 (06:52):
That you've seen, You've seen real progress.
Speaker 6 (06:55):
And this is kind of the anti Jets experience, right,
So Jets quarterbacks go other places and hit, and now
the Jets are trying to take someone's quarterback that didn't
hit and turn him into a star. So maybe the
reverse engineering it will work great for New York.
Speaker 5 (07:10):
I love the optimism.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
All right, Let's quickly pivot here to Brett Zeitch, the
big boss at the Chiefs, you know, talking about Travis
Kelcey and essentially.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
Was like, this might be it, like this could be
a Swan song. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
We're not taking it out of context. It's part of
a larger quote, but like it's an actual quote about
his fading if you will, thirty five soon to be
thirty six year old tight end. But we had Albert
Brewer come on earlier coach and essentially say, hey, the
Chief's offense could be better with the wide receivers healthy.
They might not need Kelsey to do that much.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
Your thoughts on the Chiefs and.
Speaker 6 (07:43):
Kelsey, Well, we dinged Kelsey for his season last year,
but he still had a great season where you have
ninety six catches that the touchdownds were down more than
who you would have liked. But what I didn't love
about Kelsey's off season last year was he was in
the new relationship with the most famous singer performer world.
Speaker 7 (08:05):
So there's that component of it.
Speaker 6 (08:07):
And I don't begrudge anybody from experiencing all the can experience.
But he was traveling a lot, he was doing things.
A lot of things collected are associated with that. And
then he had the TV show, he had the game show,
he had the podcast.
Speaker 7 (08:22):
He was extremely active.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
And this is after back to back shortened off seasons
because they had gone so deep with the Super Bowl appearances.
It's a lot, It's a lot, and I love that
this offseason he's been very low key. It seems like
he's taken a step back. He's gotten some time for
himself to recalibrate, and it does get harder as you
(08:44):
get older. But his approach this offseason I think has
been very different and will help him significantly. And you
could kill him for his production last year, but his
production last year was pretty good, you know, compared to
his peer group.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
Compared to his peer group, yes, but like a couple
of years prior to that, he was.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
Like totally dominant unstoppable.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
I like, you must have been hanging around your kids
a lot, because you just used low key and that
was like the buzzword for us.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
You know, I was gonna say.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Travis Kelcey is low key washed, but that might be
a little bit harsh, but.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
It sounds like you. You you know, that's a good point.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
About his off seasons have been kind of sort of busy.
I forgot he hosted a game show.
Speaker 7 (09:26):
He did everything last year.
Speaker 6 (09:28):
It was commercials, there was travel, it was the high
profile relationship, it was the game show was remember the
I thought it was great, and the TV show it
was a grotesquery. I thought he did a great job
with that as well. Like you can, he was setting
himself for life after football, setting himself up after football,
and then I imagine as he went through last season
(09:50):
and the season ended the way that it did, now
he's not ready for life after football and he wants
to go run it back. And I'm sure it's year
to year now, but I dialed in focused. Travis Kelsey
is a dangerous study defense.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
That's a great take because it reminds me of what
Baker Mayfield was with the Browns and led the NFL
and commercials and he just didn't really produce.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
You you may be familiar with that era.
Speaker 7 (10:15):
I look, I loved his commercials. I thought they were fantastic.
Speaker 6 (10:18):
He actually really funny, but it didn't you know, it
didn't help him on the field.
Speaker 7 (10:24):
At that point.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Yeah, yeah, all right, Eric Mangini breakfast Ball every show
at FS.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
One very thoughtful former head coach.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
You know, maybe maybe Glenn will bring you into training
camp to talk to the guys.
Speaker 5 (10:35):
Sounds like you guys are friendly still.
Speaker 6 (10:37):
I talked to Aaron not too long ago, and you know,
I haven't been back to Jets World and quite some time,
but I'm definitely sharing sharing for him. There's a lot
of former players now with Rabel at New England. I'm
excited for both those guys and I'm excited to see
what how they impact their programs and knowing their personality
(11:00):
and watching their stories.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
Yeah, I would say Glenn's handled to New York media
well so far. So that's another one of your guys.
You got people everywhere. All right, Eric, thanks a lot,
enjoy the summer. We'll talk to you soon, all right, awesome,
talk to you soon. Yeah, Eric Manjee, that's a good take, Alex.
It's about Travis. I totally forgot. He's pulled a million
different ways of the podcast and the TV show and
all this stuff.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
Taylor Swift. All right.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
So coming up next, The Herd is moving to the
Fox Sports App. We'll have Adam Chernoff on gambling Guru
made everybody including myself money last year. He's calling for
a Bills Rams Super Bowl. We'll talk a lot of
other prop.
Speaker 5 (11:38):
Bets and stuff. Coming up next on.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
FS one the Women's Euro twenty twenty five Norway versus Iceland.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
We'll see you on the app.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd Weekdays
and newone Easter non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the Radio app.
Speaker 8 (12:01):
Hey what's up everybody? It's me three time pro bowler
LeVar Arrington and I couldn't be more excited to announce
a podcast called Up on Game?
Speaker 9 (12:09):
What is Up on Game?
Speaker 8 (12:10):
You ass along with my fellow pro bowler TJ. Huschman
Zada and Super Bowl champion Yup. That's right, Plexico Birds.
You can only name a show with that type of
talent on it. Up on Game We're going to be
sharing our real life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen
to Up on Game with me LeVar Arrington, TJ. Huschman
(12:32):
Zada and Plexico.
Speaker 10 (12:34):
Birds on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you
get your podcast from.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Good stuff from the Eric Mangini. Let's go to Alex
Curry with the news.
Speaker 9 (12:52):
No, no, no, this is the headline news.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
Well j mac NBA tipped off their summer late. Oh
yes in Vegas, but all eyes will be on tonight's
matchup between the Mouns and Lakers, the Cooper Flag making
his debut against Ronnie James. Ticket prices are nearing record
prices for tonight, with the average ticket going for two
hundred and twenty three dollars, which is just shy of
Wendy's Summer League debut at two hundred and ninety seven dollars.
(13:19):
But Cooper Flag is a real deal. He's a new
face of the franchise. I was extremely impressed when I
got to interview him when he was out here after
his college football season accepting his Wooden Award. I mean,
this kid eat, sleeps, breathes basketball. It's in his DNA.
Both of his parents played basketball. Is when brother plays
basketball He's older sibling plays basketball, and he told me
(13:45):
because I asked, like, are you going to take a
little break? What are you doing before the draft? So
this was pre draft.
Speaker 5 (13:49):
He's like, well, I want to.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
Keep practicing, and he's like, but my agent and my
family are forcing me to take a break. So this
is a kid that all he wants to do is
be the best that he can be get better every
single day. We heard it in his draft press conference
when he said, I just want to be a sponge
and soak everything up and be better. But this is
going to be an interesting and obviously it's going to
(14:13):
be a lot of eyeballs on this matchup tonight. Brownie
should be better because he has an NBA season under
his belt and he's played in NBA games. But what
are you expecting?
Speaker 3 (14:24):
But I'm expecting us to leave the show tomorrow and
coo are I think? Giovann Bouha was on earlier and said, yeah,
twenty points seems realistic.
Speaker 5 (14:32):
I just want to see that he's dominant right out
of the game. Should be able to be dominant.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
You never can read too much into summer league, right, No,
you don't want to overreact, but you do want to
see your number one overall pick who I said is
going to move more than one MVP, who I've compared
to Kevin Garnett.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
I want to see him from the paint.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Well, listen, Kevin Garnett didn't wasn't blowing away people in
Summer League. Yeah, but I think he can.
Speaker 5 (14:58):
So I would go for anything short of twenty and
ten would be a little bit of a disappointment.
Speaker 4 (15:03):
Okay, I mean, but Cooper Flag has been blowing people
away since high school. He's breaking records in high school
is one year at dude, like it? But anything he's
going to do it, I don't think it.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
I mean he's worked the last Okay, so when he's
like eleven years old, he's probably like, I'm going to
the NBA. Yeah that's what I was saying. Yeah, okay,
I had no chance. Yeah, Cooper Flag had a chance.
So for like seven years he's worked up to this moment.
Speaker 5 (15:25):
Huh now he's here. Yeah, probably some butterflies.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
He is so calm, cool and collected, Like when you
talk to this kid, like it's just this is what
I'm supposed to be doing, and this is what I'm doing,
and here I am and I'm gonna do the best
that I can.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Ask for the brawny angle. I just want to see
improvement all around game. You know again, I said, can
he be TJ McConnell ish next year for the Lakers?
Speaker 5 (15:50):
Maybe a stretch, but I think that's what he should
aim for. Like, look at this guy.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
He's looked okay at moments he's in the Summer League.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Better, he's looked better. And I think people like all
need to remember before his rookie season he had cardiac
yeah in college, Like he was also fighting back from
a huge adversity. And he is another great athlete who
is obviously his dad is one of the greatest of
all time. So you're training with the best of the best.
(16:18):
But for Brownie this should be a big improvement. He
has NBA games under his belt, so he should be better.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
Five o'clock, five o'clock pacifics eight Eastern.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Yes, feel arms all right to the NFL.
Speaker 7 (16:33):
Well.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Pete Carroll will take over the Raiders this offseason and
as looking to create a new culture in Las Vegas.
Face of the Raiders, Brosby says that it's not fake
energy from his new coach, adding things just feel different
in the building, which they should. Pete Carroll is a
culture creator and that's exactly what the Raiders need. That's
while they that's why they hired him. They have a
(16:54):
lot of new obviously this year with Pete Carroll. They
hired Chip Kelly as their offensive coordinator. Trader for Gina
Smith drafted Ashton gent. Now do I think the the
Raiders are going to win the division? No, like they
have Chiefs, Chargers and Broncos in that division. But I
do think that they're going to be better this year.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
You I'm focusing on that not fake energy line? What
do you think this is a dig at the last
coach the line Piers. Piers came on and was like
very raw raw.
Speaker 5 (17:28):
You know he's a former player. No, I wonder if No.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
I think just because with heat there there comes a
lot with it. Obviously, like when he was at SC
you would have celebrities right this Like he's won at
every level and he knows what it takes to win.
Speaker 5 (17:41):
So we're saying it's not fake. He is.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
He is the real deal, is how I'm reading it
to that.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Oh, one of the producers not, I can't take credit
for this. That smart Josh McDaniels was a coach before Piers.
Speaker 5 (17:54):
Okay, is the fake.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
Energy of jem Now mcdannel's have been a guest on here.
He seems like a nice I I.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
Would love to drill down.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Max Crosby not a fan of my work because I
didn't have it, like a top five defensive end and
all these fans.
Speaker 5 (18:09):
I made a comment on the show. I was like, Max,
come on, dog, jeez, I can't blame them, though.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
You got to believe in yourself, so you got to
call out people who also don't.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
I didn't think he was a top five pass rush
in the league. Like, it's not bad if you're number six.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
It's like what I call Michael Jordan the second greatest
player of all time?
Speaker 5 (18:25):
Oh my god, Jason, you're crazy.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
I'm like, he's the second greatest player ever in the
history of basketball.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
Yeah, let'st freakout.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
Okay, let's move to baseball. We're Despite having the best
record in the National League, the Dodgers have been struggling
as of late, getting swept in back to back series
to the Astros and the Brewers dropping their sixth straight
game over the span. LA has struggled on all cylinders.
With a minus thirty four run differential, which is their
worst over a six game set since nineteen fifty eight.
Speaker 5 (18:55):
And what I have to.
Speaker 4 (18:55):
Say here to fans, baseball fans, Dodger fans, we're in
the dog days of summer. This is what happens in
a baseball season. When you play one hundred and sixty
two games, you are going to have ups and downs.
This is the time if you are going to have
a down, to do it because you're about to head
on the All Star breaks. So guys are about to
get a nice little reset and refresh. They do have
(19:16):
some good news. The good news is Tyler glassnow returned
yesterday he looked good. Blake Snell and Blake Triton are
nearing a return started their rehab assignments. Kershaw is overperforming.
He made history joining the three thousand strikeout club. And
then you have Otani who is ahead of schedule. There
is some bad news with the Dodgers. The bullpen is
(19:38):
getting taxed. Max Munsey is out until about August. But
also it's a bone brus on his knee, which was
best case scenario compared to possible. Everyone thought it might
have been an acl or something like that so MRI
showed no structural damage, so best case scenario there, and
then rope piece ofsaki also has no official return date.
(20:00):
The Dodgers have a lot of moving pieces. I wouldn't
look too much into this. This is a completely normal
baseball slump and actually happening at a good time, right
when guys can go take a break and reset.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
So I'm looking at the run differential that on the screen.
It says outscore by thirty four runs significant. So before that,
the Dodgers were almost a one hundred run differential. Right,
the Cubs are number one by a mile.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
But all of a sudden, are they still the best
record of baseball?
Speaker 7 (20:25):
They do?
Speaker 5 (20:26):
They do? That's the thing. The record is top.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
It's just a little little six games start. Six games
is the equivalent of what like maybe a half a
bad NFL half a football like one game one half
of one game week.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
So if you play one hundred and sixty two games.
Speaker 5 (20:40):
I'm divided by self. Do the math. It's early, don't
basically play. The Chiefs are down twenty one nothing.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
At a half time, maybe a quarter I.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
Think it's close to maybe a quarterback either way. Yeah,
like you said, this is nothing that big Alex with
the news.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by The Herd.
Speaker 7 (21:00):
I knew. All right.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
We'll tell you which NFL bets you need to make
next on the show with an insider, and which bets
to avoid as well. That's next year on the Herd.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and neon Easter nin am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 5 (21:22):
Back here on The Herd.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
Jason McIntyre in for Colin Cowhert. So several years ago,
I forget where I was and I heard this guy
speak about gambling, and I was like, dude, he's next level,
Like I mean, this is his laser focus.
Speaker 5 (21:36):
So let's bring on Adam.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Turnoff NFL gambling analyst. He's taking the leap. He hosts
a simple handicapped podcast. He's also taking the leap. He's
trying to go about this by himself or a men
among boys in the gambling space. All Right, Adam, last
time you were on the show, you killed me from
my Minnesota Vikings take. So I don't know if I
could bounce back from that one. You do not love
(21:58):
the vikings like I do, but I do want to
do some NFL win totals. Have you really circled anything
on the board here? A lot of folks are going
to be heading to Vegas in the summer months, and I
want to put some season long bets on the board.
Speaker 5 (22:11):
What do you got?
Speaker 11 (22:13):
Yeah, so you didn't really give me any easy layups
to go with this week because you didn't really have
any crazy hot takes like your JJ McCarthy one. So
we'll try give some some other directions here for folks
to go and maybe throw some criticism at me instead
of you. So let's go some season long futures. I'll
give you three, Let's start with one, and I'll judge
your outrage as we go here. Trevor Lawrence to lead
(22:35):
the league in touchdowns, you can bet that at twenty
eight to one. And there's a few things here that
lead me to believe this is going to be Trevor
Lawrence's best career season.
Speaker 9 (22:46):
In his career.
Speaker 11 (22:46):
So, he's been dealing with Doug Peterson giving up play
calling duties. He's been dealing with an offense that's been
very disjointed. He's had the highest drop rate of any
quarterback the last three seasons combined, so it's not like
he hasn't been moving the football efficiently, and this year
to me, is just a big reset for him. He
gets Liam Cohen coming in, and the big thing Cohen's
going to do is introduce a very creative run game
(23:08):
that's going to take a lot of pressure off of him.
It's got a bona fide superstar wide receiver and Robinson
if he can find the number two and some help,
I think it's a very big year for Trevor Lawrence.
So twenty eight to one, it's probably pretty high in
the outrage of ameter, but maybe we can go a
little bit more with these other two.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
Well I'm curious, so is the defense that bad that
they're going to be playing catch up a lot, because
you know, it seems like Cohen's a run first guy, run.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
To set up the pass.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
In Tampa, he had the three running backs who absolutely
crushed it.
Speaker 9 (23:37):
Yeah it was.
Speaker 11 (23:38):
And you look at Baker Mayfield's numbers and they absolutely
exploded last year for over forty five hundred yards. And
I think it's going to be a case of the
Jags being in a lot of competitive games because the
defense still has a long way to go. It's tough
to be worse than last year, but it'll be a
step forward. And if that run game is alleviating some
of the pressure and opening up some space, I think
not only is that going to help Lawrence find some
(23:59):
more open receivers, but it's also going to allow the
offense to take a big step forward too. So it's
a combo of both very friendly schedule, a lot of
indoor road games as well. There's four of them, So
just a lot of positive signs here and a big
price for Trevor Lawrence to have a big breakout year.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Well I like that because everybody crushed him for that contract.
Oh he's not worth it, Like, let's settle down. Your
next one involves Roma Dunza. Really the Chicago Bears. Oh
my gosh, it's crazy.
Speaker 11 (24:26):
He's going to be the best wide receiver for the
Bears from a stats perspective, from a performance perspective. Personnel
guy within the league who I trust a ton when
it comes to player evaluation. I was talking with him
and I said, like, who's the breakout guy who's going
to stand out this year? And really, without hesitation, he said,
Roma Dunes is going to take a big leap last year.
(24:47):
You think about what the Bears went through, three different
play callers, a rookie QB coming in to try to
find this rookie wide receiver. It was just there was
so many moving parts, so much throwing at Williams and
this offense that's all entirely reset. Ben Johnson, one of
the best player callers in the NFL, is already holding
both Williams and a Dunza, as well as the entire
(25:08):
offense to a really high standard. There's a rebuilt offensive line.
I think it's a massive year for a Duneza. So
one thousand plus receiving yards for Rome is available at
plus one seventy five.
Speaker 9 (25:20):
I think that's a great bet to make. I think
he goes over that.
Speaker 11 (25:23):
If you're a fantasy player, he's definitely a guy you
want to circle as well.
Speaker 9 (25:27):
This is a big year upcoming for Rome.
Speaker 11 (25:28):
A Dunza maybe starts a little bit slow as that
offense finds its footing, but lots of opportunity for him
to catch a ton of passes.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
Did I hear you correctly? He's the best receiver. You
think he's better than DJ Moore right now? I think
he will be the Bears wide receiver number one this year. Yes, spicy,
all right, your final one involves a guy we talked
about earlier, Jared Goff. Listen, we're not bullish on the
Lions in these waters. Sounds like you're not either.
Speaker 11 (25:52):
Yeah, I have win totals under on the Lions were
one of the first bets I made this spring when
all those numbers were posted. And I think about Jared
Goff and the support that he's received really the last
decade after his first year with Jeff Fisher leading that
Rams team, He's had Sean McVay in his ear for
several seasons, and then he had Ben Johnson in his
(26:13):
ear for several seasons in the transition to Detroit. You're
talking about a quarterback who has a very storied history
of needing help pre snap, lots of documented analysis commentary
about how much help he receives pre snap before that
communication cuts off with fifteen seconds to go, and he's
had two of the best in the business guiding him
(26:35):
through not only play calling, but reading it the line
of scrimmage, setting up plays. I know the Lions still
have a ton of pieces, but this is really a
big departure from having an elite play caller alongside of him,
a lot of brain power to replace for this Lion's
coaching staff. I think when you're looking at his passing
yards total, it's three eight hundred and seventy five and
(26:57):
a half yards.
Speaker 9 (26:58):
I would happily go under that.
Speaker 11 (27:00):
If you're still seeing that price again, have Lions win
totals under at ten and a half as well.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
We must were contractually obligated to talk Kansas City Chiefs
because of Taylor Swift.
Speaker 5 (27:09):
Patrick Mahomes blah blah blah always.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
I don't know, is it crazy to do one of
these missed the bet playoffs on the Chiefs. You could
say yes, I don't mind, because Albert Breer came on
earlier and said, listen, this offense, if the wide receivers
are healthy, could be better than last year, and they
had Pacheco kind of banged up last year. I don't
personally see it, but there's a I mean, hell, anything's possible.
Speaker 11 (27:29):
Right Well, this is the first year in what three
or four that the Chiefs have gone into a season
with returning wide receivers. And I was just reading something
that came out of training sessions that the Chiefs had
a couple of days ago, and Patrick Mahomes was talking
about how this is not learning the playbook, This is
not relying on rookies this season to come in and
(27:51):
learn formations and learn snapcounts and learn cadence and learn
where to line up. They're talking about guys in the
huddle between the three wide receivers angry at each other
because they want to be the one that's featured catching
these passes in practice because everybody knows where to go
and knows where to line up, and everything is familiar.
So this season, in this offseason so far, has been
(28:12):
about expanding the playbook and expanding roles, which is very
different than the last It seems like a very long time.
We've talked about the Chiefs every season, who's going to
be the number one? How are they going to get
these young guys involved. That's not the case this year.
So I don't know how anybody can comfortably have lower
expectations on the Chiefs this year, especially the offense. I
(28:35):
think there's a very high ceiling with Mahomes and all
these guys returning to again, like Mahomes said the other day,
expand on the playbook and improve, so I wouldn't be
betting on them to miss the playoffs. I think that's
just offseason hyperbole that we see a ton every single year.
I think the Chiefs offense can be pretty scary.
Speaker 5 (28:54):
This interesting Chiefs fans will love to hear that. I
mean more Kansas City Chiefs, Adam. That's what we did.
Are we got a minute left?
Speaker 3 (28:59):
I will wrap up with a Jets question because you
are somehow a Jets fan, mister Canada Jets fan. I'm
not bullish on this year. I'm actually thinking if they
bought them out, it's a good quarterback class. Supposedly next year,
I don't know. I get five six wins is not
the end of the world. We have made the playoffs
in forever. What's the rush now? Your thought on the
Jets macro big picture this year.
Speaker 11 (29:22):
I think it's a great reset year. I'm happy that
we've seen Glenn take the approach that everything just needs
to be quiet this offseason. I think the roster still
has a lot of very good pieces that could make
them a very sneaky bet week to week, especially early
in the season. But yeah, like you said, I think
if they get out of this with six wins a
high draft pick next year, they're able to stabilize this
(29:43):
new coaching staff. It's a step in the right direction.
Anything more than that would be a very pleasant surprise
for me personally. But I think they're probably a sneaky
week to week underdog to be backing early on in
the season.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
And so wait a minute, I'm sorry, you will be
betting the Jets week to week?
Speaker 5 (29:58):
Or is that.
Speaker 11 (29:58):
Maybe they're gonna They're going to have inflated point spreads
and there's still again a lot of talent on this team.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
Huh.
Speaker 11 (30:04):
You're giving me some bigger numbers against some some hyped
up competition.
Speaker 9 (30:07):
I think they're going to be a pretty good bet early.
Speaker 5 (30:09):
No, I think they will pull the Steelers.
Speaker 11 (30:11):
Now I'm saying they're going to go and win and
shock the world, but they're going to be more competitive
than I think people think.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
The opener against the Steelers at two and a half
or three, are you looking the Jets there?
Speaker 9 (30:20):
I am ill.
Speaker 11 (30:23):
We'll see what that number gets to you with some
Steelers hype, but absolutely.
Speaker 5 (30:26):
Oh okay, all right, Adam turnoff.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
You got to listen to his podcast, The Simple Handicap
it's great on gambling, Adam, good stuff. We'll talk to
you probably in August, right before the season when your
thoughts are crystallized and the and the bets are all
over the board.
Speaker 11 (30:39):
Thanks man, awesome, looking forward to it and joy the
rest of the summer.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
All right too, Adam turn Off, really good stuff. Boy,
I just got a little excited there. Alan to mean
he's gonna be betting jets.
Speaker 5 (30:49):
Week to week.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
They Yeah, you've tempered your expectations on them out. I
will give you that you've done a great job of
not getting over excited. I think as you did with Rogers,
got let down. But he's right, like there is a
lot of good news.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
It's like when you get hyped for like a date.
You're like, oh.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
Yeah, little excitations, and then you get excited under.
Speaker 5 (31:08):
Promise over to look.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
Yes, that's distract really people, I'm just going out your teaching,
all right, good show, thanks to Mangenie churn Off, Albert Rereer, Boha.
Can the Lakers go out and get Bradley Beal please
just do it.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
Come on,
