Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
And with that we bring in Albert Rare Monday Morning
quarterback lead strategist, lead content. All right, so you do
this every year. You ask GMS coordinators, quarterback coaches, all
the guys that would know, give me your best five
to ten quarterbacks. My takeaway was I didn't have any disagreement.

(00:47):
And then you get to ten and eleven. It's brought
pretty tendac eleven and I'll make this argument and throw
it at you and you just fire back. That brought purty.
We don't want to admit this. Brock and Dock of
the same thing on traditional college powers, mid to late drafts.
Inherit an offensive coach, a big brand, and a fairly
stacked offensive roster, not the best arm mobile, enough high

(01:11):
character guys. The difference is one is wealthy, one is not.
But the GMS that you talk to, they see Brock
and Dak as the same kind of guy, one with
more starts. Is that nuts?

Speaker 3 (01:26):
No, And I think it's sort of an example Colin
of how hard it is to get to the very
top category. If you look at the top three names there, Mahomes,
Burrow and Allen, those have essentially been the top three
over the.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
Last three years. It's a hard group to crack.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Even Lamar Jackson, who was the MVP of the league,
wasn't able to crack it coming off the twenty three season.
And just full context here, there are eighty five people voting.
All of them are in the business of evaluating quarterbacks,
whether it's on the scouting side or the coaching side,
and I'm asking him to project where those quarterbacks are
going to.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
Be at the end of the year.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
So like Lamar, based on what he did last year
and people see him going forward, couldn't even crack that
top three. You see CJ. Stroud there at number five.
That stuck out to me as well. It's hard to
get into that group, you know. And I really think
the difference is in the two groups. It's there was
the quarterbacks you can win with and the quarterbacks you
can win because of and I think those top three

(02:17):
are in that category where you win because of them.
I think Lamar's in there too now and it's really
hard to elevate to that upper echelon. And I, for
better or worse, think a lot of people in the
league say, Okay, like, if you put a really good
situation around Dak, you can win with them, no question
about it. But if you take things down a notch,
you tear some pieces away from him, is going to

(02:39):
be the same result.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
Maybe not now. I would argue that Dak.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Actually showed some of those traits being able to be
one of the win because of guys last year, and
that once you get past CD Lamb there wasn't a
ton around him. He lost his offensive coordinator ahead of
last year, so he did show some of those things.
But I think you're right to say that Dak would
be in that win with category rather than the one
because of category, which I think is also where bron

(03:03):
Party is right now for NFL folks.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Have we gotten over our skis on the Bears? They're
just a touchdown favorite at home over a bad Tennessee
team that has a whole new staff. I was talking
about this this morning. I mean, you're kind of guessing,
if you're the Bears, what Tennessee is going to do offensively.
They've upgraded their weapons, you know. I just think to myself,
there's gonna be this stuff builds to crescendos. There's gonna

(03:28):
be a big thud somewhere one of the NFL. And
I'm like, Chicago's had a lot of funds over the
last decade. Are we getting ahead of ourselves on the Bears?

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Well, I think we're always sort of prisoners of the
moment that we look at how last year ended, and
the Bears were pretty good at the end of last year,
better than they have been.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
In a few years.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
And then you start to look at the roster and
you see some ascending players and you plug Caleb in
and now it's like, Okay, Caleb is this generational talent
once in every few years type of quarterback. And you
give them Darnell right, who's the top ten pick a tackle.
You give him DJ Moore and Keenan Allen's veteran receivers.
You draft for Omadonze, You bring in DeAndre Swift to

(04:08):
be at the center of the running game, and then
have a defense that was playing good towards the end
of last year with a defensive head coach, and it's
easy to look at it and say this should be
a nine or ten win team.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
This is a.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Group in Matti Eberflus and Ryan Poles that's in their
third year of building. They've created a ready made situation
for their young quarterback. I think it's fair to have
expectations with them, and I don't really see the pothole
in week one. The way that you do that Tennessee
team is still rebuilding in a lot of spots and
digging out from underneath some of their older stars having

(04:38):
aged out over the last few years. Taylor Luwan, Kevin
Byern Derrick Henry, those guys obviously not there anymore. I
think one thing that's interesting about Tennessee is that they
really have invested in trying to get.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
An answer on Will Levis.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
You know, they add Calvin Ridley, they bring in Lloyd
Cushionberry to be the pivot man on their offensive line,
they bring in Tony Pop. They want answers on Will Levis,
which might give you the idea that they're closer than
they are. But if you look at the rest of
the roster. I think they have a ways to go.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Okay, that Jets San Francisco game, we call it the
Baggage Bowl. They've got all this, you know, all these
holdouts I gotta I don't know. I know San Francisco
is gonna be fine. I trust the coach, I trust
the defense. I'm fine, They'll be fine. Weaker conference. I

(05:29):
don't know what to do with the Jets. I don't
trust the leadership in the building. There are stories out
there they wanted to hire an offensive coordinator to help
their offensive coordinator. Where are you feeling you're connected here?
What are we to make of the Jets? I don't
have a strong opinion. I have Miami and Buffalo getting
to the playoffs in that division, not the Jets. Where

(05:50):
are you on them this morning?

Speaker 4 (05:52):
Do you have you have Brady on every week? Now right?

Speaker 1 (05:55):
I'll have them on regularly? Yeah, regularly?

Speaker 4 (05:58):
Okay, okay.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
I would just be interested to hear how he would
compare what the Jets are giving Aaron Rodgers right now
with what he had when he got to Tampa Bay
in twenty two and tour in twenty twenty.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
I think there's a lot of similarities.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Like I think if you look at the infrastructure of
the team, the amount of veteran players that they have
on the team that really know what they're doing, I
think there are similarities, And look like where they are
along the lines of scrimmage is a much different place
than where they were a year ago. The defensive line
was great last year, and they have seven former first
round picks on the defensive line.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Then go to the.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Offensive line and how aggressively they addressed the problem from
last year. They bring in Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses,
two guys who have a ton of experience, high level
left tackle, high level right tackle. You might say, Okay,
they're both thirty three years old. Could that be problematic
from an injury standpoint? Absolutely could be. The third tackle,
the swing tackle is the eleventh pick in the draft

(06:51):
in Olufashanu. Then you look at the skill position right
like you look at Garrett Wilson at receiver and bres
Hall at tailback. At I just I'm looking across the
roster Colin and the two biggest problems last year were
the offensive tackle position and quarterback. Those two positions, if
they can stay healthy, have been emphatically fixed. So I

(07:14):
don't know if they're going to be able to get
past Kansas City and Baltimore and Cincinnati and the and
the and and and and the.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
Strength of the AFC.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
But I have a hard time seeing where they that
they shouldn't be the favorite in the AFC, based on
where Buffalo has sort of shifted some of their roster
and gotten younger, younger in a lot of key spots,
based on where Miami is defensively and having moved some
guys like Christian Wilkins and Jerome Baker and Xavian Howard
now off the roster. I have a hard time looking
at and saying they stay healthy. Why wouldn't the Jets

(07:45):
be the favorite?

Speaker 1 (07:46):
I think they should be Kansas City, Baltimore tonight, Kansas
City slight favorite. They're all distractions, aren't the same. I look,
I look at Travis Kelsey, Taylor Swift. It's not a distraction,
that is it's fun. I look at Rashid Rice. Silly
mistake by a young guy, it happens. The organization immediately

(08:08):
supported him. Harrison, Buttkert, that's not a controversy. The players don't.
I mean, they're gonna support their guy. Many of them
probably agree with him. I don't look at Kansas City
as having a turbulent offseason. I think when you're a
champion and the Patriots knew this, I mean, the Patriots
had to flight Gate, Spygate, Aaron Hernandez. When you have
good leadership, that stuff just melts away. I think it's

(08:32):
almost Albert, It's almost one of those things the downside
to a dynasty. The upside you have great leadership to
handle turbulence. The downside is you're gonna have more turbulence,
got more stars on your team. I think Kansas City
should be the favorite to win it all. I think
they're receiving calls better. Where are you on them and
they're off season?

Speaker 4 (08:50):
I agree?

Speaker 3 (08:50):
I mean I think you know, like, what you're talking
about is your ability to absorb risk, right like, and
look over the years at all the risks the Patriots took,
you know, in drafting Aaron Hernandez. There was the year
that they acquired both chad Ochusinco and Albert Hainsworth with
within weeks of each other. They brought in Corey Dillon
early in the dynasty when it looked like he was
a total now content in Cincinnati, they were able to

(09:11):
absorb risk over the years because of what you're talking about,
which is the leadership in the building. And Kansas City
has been able to do that too. I mean, you know,
don't forget, like you know, even before Mahomes got there,
they were able to absorb the risk of drafting Tyreek
Hill and they really made that work, right, So a
lot of that was already in place before Mahomes got there.
It's only been strengthened since Mahomes has been there. You know,

(09:32):
guys know that. You know, you come in there, you're
chasing a ring.

Speaker 4 (09:37):
You have to.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
Play by the Chiefs rules, and they're going to be
able to take Morris than other teams because they've got
the leadership to handle it. So I like, I think
you're right on with that. I don't think any of
the stuff from the offseason is going to affect much
competitively for the team.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
And then I think the offense has a chance to
be a lot better than it was.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Yeah, same s.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
And I think the reason.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Why they're reintroducing the deep ball into the passing game.
You know, a couple of years ago, they offload Tyreek
Hill and they really invested in the run after catch guys,
because so many teams are playing them with two high safeties.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
They've sort of rolled that back this year.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Now you're not gonna be able to see it tonight
because Hollywood Brown's out, because Zave You're Worthy as.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
A rookie playing his first game.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
But I think when you get to week eight, Week ten,
week twelve, you're gonna start to see the vision for
the offense and what they see the offense being when
they get to the.

Speaker 4 (10:26):
Playoffs, which is sort of similar.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
I'm gonna make the Patriot analogy again to when the
Patriots had Randy Moss going deep and Bus Welker running underneath.
You're gonna have Hollywood Brown and Save you're Worthy on
the outside taking the top off the defense, and then
Rashie Rice and Travis Kelcey running underneath that, which I
think is going to bring out the best in Patrick Mahomes.
And then on the defensive side of the ball, you
still have a bunch of ascending young stars. They got

(10:49):
to replace Lajerius Snead, But you talk about guys who
should keep getting better, George carloft Is, Trent McDuffie, Nick Bolton.
I think the Chiefs have to be the favorite going
into the season. I mean, I ticked them to win
the Super Bowl, but I think they have to be
the prohibitive favorite going into twenty twenty four.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Okay, finally they Okay, I know I'm catching you off guard.
I'm taking Washington every year we have a team. Last
year was Houston. Yeah, they get the quarterback and the coach. Right,
I'm gonna go with Washington to sneak in. Now, they're
probably a one and done, but I think they got
the quarterback and the coach right, and the coordinator and
the owner in the GM. Yep, Washington's gonna be my Oh,

(11:27):
Washington won ten games team. Now that sounds ridiculous, but
it's no more ridiculous than saying that about Houston, which
was a disaster two years ago. Do you have a
team that we're gonna go Breer saw something we did not.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
Can I give you one an each conference? Sure, and
one's a little more under the right oar than the
other one. In the AFC, I give you Indianapolis. They
were nine to eight last year with Gardner minshuw as
their quarterback. They looked dynamic when Anthony Richardson was in there.
I think Leatulas is gonna be the defensive rookie of
the year coming from UCLA if he can stay healthy.
He's dynamic as a pass rusher. Now, a lot of

(12:05):
this is going to be based on health, right, Like
can they keep Anthony Richardson healthy? How do you balance
want to use him as a runner versus you know,
like the injury risk that you're going to take on
when you do that. All that needs to be worked out.
But I think there's plenty of high end potential there.
Remember Jalen Hurts took a step back when Shane Stike
and left Philadelphia. I think you saw a lot of

(12:27):
the reason for that, and how the Colts played on
offense last year even after Anthony Richardson wound up getting hurt.
I think there's a good high end potential on both
sides of the ball there. I like the Colts really
challenging the Texans in the AFC South and then the NFC.
I'll go further under the radar, keep an eye on
the Cardinals. I think after that whole video game thing
with Kyler Murray, the light went on for him. He's

(12:48):
a kid who won in college one in high school.
He hadn't been through losing like he went through in
the pros. I think finally the light came on for
him a couple off seasons ago when he was coming
back from the ACL played pretty well last year in
the first year in a new offense.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
It's the first time he's been in a new offense
since high school.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
He run an air raid offense all the way from
high school to college to the pros. He had to
learn a new offense for the first time, and without
being on the field for OTA's mini camp, training camp,
any of that, he wound up playing pretty well. And
if you want to look at their two draft class,
the last two draft classes there, they're big in volume,
and they're big and high in talent. They got Paris

(13:26):
Johnson at left tackle, a Marvin Harrison at receiver, and
then you look down the line, Michael Wilson at receiver.
They think he can be another Adam Field, Max Melton mccorner.
I just like, look at the depth now in Arizona
and the job that coaching staff did last year is
gonna be tough in the NFC West with the two
behemoths there at the top of the division. But I
think Arizona could be a team that we're talking about,

(13:49):
has maybe eight or nine wins going into January, and
maybe they're trying to sneak in with the seventh seed.

Speaker 4 (13:54):
In the NFC.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
Albert Breer as, oh, was my friend, great seeing you
all right?

Speaker 4 (13:59):
Thanks?

Speaker 2 (13:59):
Going?

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Yeah, good stuff. I thought he was going to say, Seattle,
who you like Arizona? So we both like Arizona and
the points in the opener. I think Kyler's a handful.
I think the defense for them has lost the last
couple of years some really good players. I think Buffalo
is gonna win a lot of games, but I think
they're vulnerable. They're not. I think that defense Kyler can

(14:23):
make things very difficult for a young defense, and they've
had to make some moves defensively.

Speaker 5 (14:28):
Cardinals should be able to hang around there in Buffalo.

Speaker 6 (14:30):
It's not like this is an old Buffalo offense with
digs and gave Davis explosive. They're gonna be a lot
of two tight end sets, a lot of James Cook handoffs.

Speaker 5 (14:39):
Yeah. I see them playing more close games this year.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
I'm with you.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd Weekdays
and Neon Easter. They're not a im Pacific.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Show is flying by today, Albert Breer, Greg Cosel. We
will of course put Greg on the podcast for those
who are interested. Later. Here is j Mack with the news.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
The Herd Line News.

Speaker 5 (15:02):
It was a tough on Collins.

Speaker 6 (15:03):
So Deshaun Watson, who you know, he's had a rough
go here.

Speaker 5 (15:07):
Traded from the Texans.

Speaker 6 (15:09):
He was one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL
right in no, of course, dealt with.

Speaker 5 (15:13):
A lot off the field.

Speaker 6 (15:15):
On the field, he's had some injuries, he's it's been
a rough two years in Cleveland. Despite the poor performance
with the Browns, Deshaun believes he's still among the NFL's elite.

Speaker 7 (15:26):
Do you feel like you still are among the early
quarterbacks this link, of course, no doubt. But I challenged
myself to get back to this moment right now, and
I want to make every throw in the spring, and
I did that. I was able to make every throw
that doctor Oltrash you know, put out there on the
table for me. And I was able to do that
before spring broke, and so going into the summer and

(15:46):
training camp, you know, everything else was just kind of
just building the strength and just building an endurance with
with the shoulder.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Yeah, I'm gonna put him in third place. I just
don't I like to coach a lot love Miles Garrett
pretty good, just not a lot of trust for me ownership,
not a lot of trust to Sean Watson. So much
of this league is can you for twenty weeks keep
your act together? And I just I don't I love
the coach GM sharp. I don't know.

Speaker 5 (16:14):
Yay, look at those numbers. I mean he's falling off
a cliff.

Speaker 8 (16:17):
Now.

Speaker 6 (16:17):
I obviously had to sit out a year, and he
had the off field stuff with the massage.

Speaker 4 (16:22):
Lady.

Speaker 6 (16:23):
Look at the numbers he had in his final year
in Houston. He led the NFL in passing yards with
forty eight hundred, and he had thirty three touchdowns. Do
you remember a Chiefs playoff game where I believe he
had them up like.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
Twenty four to three or something.

Speaker 6 (16:37):
Remember that, and then of course the Chiefs storing back
and take him down. But you're like, man, Watson's really good.
This guy was like a top seven eight quarterback in
the league. Colin and now it's like, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
Desperate organizations do desperate things. They gave him a guaranteed contract.
You can say all you want about the Russell Wilson deal,
but they're out from under that by next year. If
bo Knicks can play, they're fine in Denver. They are
locked into the He has to, by the way, he
has to be great for the next three years. Did
your way out of it?

Speaker 6 (17:05):
How good he was in those two playoff games against
Alabama in college?

Speaker 5 (17:09):
He was oh my, he was cittilating. Was like, Oh,
this guy's incredible.

Speaker 6 (17:13):
I hope he can get back to where he was
and NFL needs more quarterbacks that are great. Next up,
Jaden Daniels making the regular season debut on Sunday on
Fox against Tampa second overall pick, under a lot of
pressure to turn things around for the Commanders, but the
rookie is facing those expectations head on, saying pressure is

(17:33):
a privileged The grind never stops. It's a spicy matchup
against Tampa, very winnable game.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Well they're getting and again it's it's three and a
half points. If you're Tampa. What is Washington? You have
to go back and look at Kingsbury video from Arizona.
You have to watch college tape on Jaden Daniels. Tampa's
just guessing in this game. They don't know anything new GM,
new coach, new coordinators, new roster, new quarterback. New I mean,

(18:02):
if I'm Tampa, I'm like terrified. I have no idea
what film to watch.

Speaker 5 (18:06):
That's a great point.

Speaker 6 (18:07):
So the Eagles are going against the Packers. Their defensive
coordinator came from like Boston College. Remember, it's like, what's
he running? I mean, we can look at his college stuff,
but this is totally different. Seattle's new offensive coordinator, the
kid from Washington to grub It's like, what do we
expect from Seattle. That's why I'm kind of buying on
the before we know what happens. We know Kingsbury Quinn
is interesting on the defensive side, Like how much leniency

(18:29):
will he give?

Speaker 5 (18:30):
Cliff to just.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
Say, do you? I told you this this week. I
knew this. I had this sourced very well. I remember
I told people they're taking number two, They're taking Jayden Daniels.
They said it about a month before I was told
Kingsbury bang the table. He was like, I know, there's
a bunch of our guy we're not getting Kleb. This
is the guy and his take was I've coached this guy.
I've coached guy who's accurate, who moves well. I think

(18:55):
I think Washington's gonna be interesting. I think Washington's the
side here. It's a Tampa is just guessing what's gonna
what it's gonna.

Speaker 6 (19:01):
Much like Caleb going against the Tennessee defense that's probably
below league average. Right, this Tampa defense is not great.
Jaden's gonna have an opportunity. Now there is some weather
questions about you know, Florida September weekends.

Speaker 1 (19:14):
Blah blah blah.

Speaker 6 (19:15):
But yeah, I'm with you. I rarely get sold on stuff,
but you really have been hard selling the Commanders all
off season.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
Is it a salesmanship when I'm right, call some right games.
If it's just being good, it's not really salesmanship. It's
just laser focused.

Speaker 5 (19:34):
Yeah, yeah, less bank, more reading, yes, yes.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
Final story.

Speaker 6 (19:38):
Oh, so while you were out, Colin DeShawn Jackson stopped
by the show and discussed with me about how DeVante
Adams was unhappy in Vegas.

Speaker 5 (19:46):
DeShawn Jackson was just lobbing grenades.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
It was incredible.

Speaker 6 (19:49):
So that kind of goes viral, and then DeVante was
now asked about Deshaun's comments this week, and here's what
he had to say the.

Speaker 8 (19:56):
End of the day. The facts are the facts, and
that is not a fact. I've probably spoken as Deshaun
Jackson maybe three or four times in my life, and
I never had a conversation with him ever, and I
put that on my kids. I've never spoken to him
about anything. The only person I really talked to about
my feelings in general is my wife probably, and she
ain't out there leaking anything and dropping stuff like that

(20:17):
in the media. So once again, whatever you see, if
it ain't from the horse's mouth.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
It's probably booked.

Speaker 3 (20:24):
My man.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
Davonte, he's he's last year.

Speaker 5 (20:27):
He was pretty vocal.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
About a bad he's been. He's been a very you know.
It's funny though, he's really unique. There's a lot of
vocal receivers. He's never disrupted. It never disrupts the team.
He's always Stefan Diggs. You and you could tell he
and Josh Allen that had something yeah, or Randy Moss
great players t o there's.

Speaker 5 (20:47):
Differently Beckham into Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
Yet Davante just keeps producing. He is outspoken, but no disruption,
So I got no problem I mean, it's not like
he's not a curate on the dysfunction of the organization.
He's part of. Tell me where DeVante Adams has been wrong.
I don't care if you're outspoken. A lot of players
are out I like veterans to have an opinion. I

(21:10):
got no problem with that. But it's funny we lump
receivers into a diva. Not a diva. He's just outspoken.

Speaker 5 (21:17):
Yeah, I don't think he is.

Speaker 6 (21:18):
Well, it's interesting he went from Aaron Rodgers and that
was when Rogers was like MVPs to what he thought
was his guy, Derek Carr, and then they run car
out of town.

Speaker 5 (21:27):
Now it's like Jimmy.

Speaker 6 (21:29):
Garoppolo, Aiden O'Connell Gardner Minshew like he cannot be excited
about this as he heads into his thirties. And that's
why we've speculated he could be trade bait at the
deadline for a contender a Detroit, a New York Jets,
somebody who needs that extra piece to.

Speaker 5 (21:45):
Go for a Super Bowl push. And DeVante Adams says, listen,
Kansas City chiefs, if.

Speaker 6 (21:51):
That wide receiver room is not what we think it's
gonna be with worthy of company and there's injuries. Deavante
Adams is gonna be very coveted come to the deadline.
I think I don't know if Raiders will move often,
but it's a big name out there.

Rinaldi for a can't miss season opener as Dak Prescott
and the Cowboys take on Deshaun Watson and the Browns Sunday.

Speaker 5 (22:58):
At four Eastern only on fucking that is a good
looking crew.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
I like Dallas in that game, how about you?

Speaker 5 (23:04):
Well, I mean to Dallas.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
Yeah, I know what I get with Dallas. I get
a lot of answers. I know what DAK is, I
know what CD is, I know what Mike McCarthy is.
I think their defense is excellent. I think their own
lines okay, not bad, it'll be okay. I kind of
feel like I kind of know what they are. They
have a bad running back room. So it's gonna be
on Dak to throw thirty eight times, which I don't love.
But if they can block Miles Garrett, I think I

(23:28):
think Dallas wins.

Speaker 6 (23:29):
I don't like the idea of a backup left tackle
facing Miles Garrett.

Speaker 5 (23:33):
I don't either, Sorry, Micah Parsons of the Cowboys.

Speaker 6 (23:37):
And also, by the way, rookie left tackle for Dallas
against Miles Garrett.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
So yeah, but the rookie left tackle for Dallas has
been great, and say, well, yeah, yeah, he was great
in college. Okay, So breaking news, hopefully not a broken calf.
Russell Wilson calf tightness limited at practice today, good boy,
But hey, they spend the most in the league on defense,

(24:01):
they just don't know what's going on at quarterback. So
I flip them from third in the division to last
in the division, and my predictions today, I don't think
they know what they're doing offensively. I don't think they
have necessarily kind of I don't know direction. I don't
know what they are offensive I think by if you

(24:21):
tell me the top eight or nine teams in the league,
I know what they are offensively. I think we're gonna
learn play to play half to half week to week
with Pittsburgh, And you and I talked about this. If
you go look at the Steelers schedule, it is burdensome.
So here's the thing is. I mean, let's just say

(24:42):
they go into Atlanta and I think Atlanta is gonna
win their division going away. What if Atlanta just lays
one on them? Because the way to beat Pittsburgh is
an offensive line. If you can keep TJ. Watt and
the pressure off your quarterback, Pittsburgh doesn't win shootouts much.
So if Kirk Cousins has time, b Jon Robinson has

(25:03):
some running lanes, they can play a little keep away
or at least keep the defenders off. Kirk Cousins it's
in Atlanta. This is a very good old line advantage
Falcons think, I honestly believe this. If you go into
week one and Atlanta lays the lumber on Pittsburgh, I
think there. I think this thing could unravel so fast.

(25:26):
I think it could be really ugly good. Put that
Pittsburgh schedule up. I mean, this is one of the
games you look at and if you're a Steeler fan,
it's a w This thing gets tough fat. You can
say what you want about Denver, Denver High altitude. Week
two has always been tough. Thenne's Herbert Anthony Richardson, Dallas,

(25:47):
Aaron Rodgers. You've got a couple dou w's in there.
But look at the back end of that schedule. Lamar
Cleveland twice, Burrow twice, Mahomes Eagles. So if you're Pittsburgh,
you gotta win early. There are not a lot of
double's with Russell Wilson or Justin Fields in that last
seven eight weeks, and even early. I mean again, you

(26:10):
look at it Landa and Denver and you think, oh,
those are doubles. I don't know, I don't know that.
I think this thing could unravel really fast. Speaking of
the AFC. So Josh McDaniels, you know, head coach, but

(26:30):
really made his mark in the NFL with Tom Brady
as his coordinator. Was on Julian Edelman's Games with Names podcast,
and I remember when I lived in Connecticut and I
always felt the Ravens when they would play the Patriots.
I always felt the Ravens were the one team that
was more physical than New England and could push New

(26:52):
England around a little bit. I didn't think anybody else
could because I thought there was Dante Scarnecki of the
old line player, but I always felt like Baltimore was
like Tyson in the prime. You just had to stay
away from the left hook. You don't want to get
into a street brawl with Baltimore. And it's interesting Josh
McDaniels talking about the dynasty of New England and when

(27:16):
they would have to play the.

Speaker 11 (27:17):
Ravens, you knew it was going to be a challenge
to beat him. It's a great organization. They're really well coached,
you know, and they were stable, you know, like it
wasn't like things were fluctuating all the time, like who's
the coach? You know, we played against the Jets and
the Bills, and it was like, you know, every every

(27:37):
few years, it felt like you're getting you know, used
to like, all right, this is the new coach. He
hired these two new coordinators, so the system's going from
this to something else. And it was like for these guys,
there was a lot of consistency and stability.

Speaker 1 (27:52):
And as he pointed out, it was that Ravens defense,
which was bizarrely big, that presented challenges.

Speaker 11 (28:04):
They had all those big guys like Dumerville who played
mostly in sub and Suggs who played all the time.
But then it was like they.

Speaker 12 (28:12):
Had that multitude of guys like Upshaw, McClellan, McFee that
were bigger, like they didn't even belong in the category
of linebacker, you know.

Speaker 11 (28:23):
It was like a defensive end, you know, And so
they would put them all out there in passing situations
and then it was like if they didn't get an
edge quick, it was just power and they just brought
everybody to the quarterback and so we knew we couldn't
hold the ball along.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
And they admitted. Bill Belichick at one point looked at
the Ravens tape and said to Josh McDaniels leading up
to the game. I wouldn't worry much about running the
football this week because you couldn't run on the You
couldn't run on the Ravens, Ray Lewis, Tony, Sarah Gusa,
those linebackers. You couldn't run on them. Just throw the football.

(28:59):
By the way, that was no day at the park
with Ed Reid in the back end. So I really
enjoyed that games with names. On the Julian Edelman podcast,
he's brought in some former Patriots. The Josh McDaniel Stuff's
a really really good listen if you're a diehard Patriot fan.
Greg Cosell on earlier today as well. All right, tonight,
I think Greg co sell was right. I think Kansas

(29:21):
City's offense will have much more firepower worthy of the
first round pick. Rashi Rice was developing into a solid guy.
Juju Smith Schuster's back. I think the O lines questionable,
they'll be more productive. I think we forget last year,
from like Week eleven, elite Week fifteen, how bad the
Chiefs offense was. They could not win. They could win

(29:42):
one way, close, low scoring, and so my guess is
tonight you're going to see some more fire power out
of Kansas City. But we had talked about this with
Greg co cell earlier. Why does Lamar and the Ravens,
Why do they struggle so much against the Chiefs.

Speaker 13 (30:04):
A critical critical piece of the way the Chiefs have
played the last couple of years under Steve Spagnolo has
been Lagerius sneid because Steve Spagnolo believes in press coverage
as the way the NFL is trending, and he does
not have Sneed, who's a top two or three press
man corner in this league. And now it's going to
be interesting to see if he continues to play that

(30:26):
way because that goes along with his pressure concepts, and
Spags's pressure concepts can be a little different and a
little more difficult to kind of figure out. So what
happens is Lamar drops back and he has to figure
it out as he's dropping back.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
So we'll see.

Speaker 13 (30:41):
But pressure has been a major factor, and it's not
only Lamar, it's obviously the entire offense.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
But you and I talked about this, Kansas City, let
Sneed go. They kept McDuffie, the second round pick out
of Washington, who is really good. Sneed did not have
a good Super Bowl and they let him go. He's
a playmaker, so they're not going to be quite as
resilient at corner. But I will say this, there's a
handful of defensive coordinators in this league, and when they

(31:09):
get second, third, fourth, and fifth looks at you, they
make things really difficult. And Lamar to this point hasn't
shown us a consistent number two pitch. Brady and Mahomes.
You take away the deep ball from Mahomes, it doesn't
matter death by a thousand cuts. Tom Brady was attacking
you as much as you were attacking him. That's the

(31:29):
separator with Mahomes and Brady. With Lamar, you get the fastball.
Does he have a consistent second and third pitch?

Speaker 3 (31:36):
Now?

Speaker 1 (31:37):
In fairness, he has his best tight end receiving group
in Baltimore that he's had, so I do think they're
a bit more lethal. Lamar also lost weight. He wanted
to get thinner and faster, although I don't know how
much faster we can get. So I think I think
I wouldn't be shocked if Baltimore won tonight. But my
guess is there's some points and I'm gonna take Kansas

(31:59):
City to win and come We're close.

Speaker 6 (32:00):
So this is just another game for the Chiefs, right,
It is not a big game. It's just the first
game of the season. But for the Ravens, if Lamar
loses tonight, you open the show with he can never
beat the Chiefs.

Speaker 5 (32:11):
He's lost five or six. Sky is falling for Lamar
in Baltimore.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
I'll just probably break down college games to lead them off.

Speaker 4 (32:18):
It's the Herd.
