You're listening to Fox Sports Radio all right.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Jordan Schultz, Fox Sports NFL Insider broke the story on
a Marii Cooper from Cleveland. He's a freebie, veteran productive
quiet to the Buffalo Bills. Where you shocked they grabbed him?
Had they been targeting him for some time?
Speaker 3 (00:40):
They had been targeting him really over the last couple
of weeks. It was more Buffalo being ultra aggressive than
Cleveland's saying we want to unload a Marik Cooper. So
what happened was, I think on Monday they had a
pretty good idea that that could happen, and then Tuesday
morning they were going to touch base. The parameters were
in place and they were able to get a deal done.
But with Amrik Cooper, not only is he a great player,
(01:02):
but in many ways he's the perfect player for Buffalo.
He's got five Pro Bowls. He's in a thousand yard guy.
We know all that, but his personality. I was talking
to some people in Cleveland's building and they said one
of the great things about Coop, and he's told me
this as well over the years, is you know what
you're getting every day. He's not going to complain about
not getting the football. He's going to run the right route.
He's going to be where he's supposed to be. And
(01:23):
as great as Stefan Diggs was, that relationship, Colin had
really run its course. Cooper's going to come in be
a professional. Plus, he's going to be motivated. He's going
to be a free agent after this year, and oh,
by the way, he's only making eight hundred grand. This
was a very sensible move by Buffalo, and should he
play really well and leaving free agency, the Bills could
get back as much as a comp five to fifth
(01:44):
round pick. So a lot of really good value in
general for the Bills, and I don't think they're necessarily
done yet. I think linebacker and safety for them could
be another mover too. Andre Cisco is a guy A
lot of teams really like that. Arrack Q Bill kid,
really good player, Devin Lloyd. So there's two Playersjacksonville that
people are targeting. I don't know if they're going to
move those guys, but those are two names that I've
(02:04):
heard as teams coveting. We'll see how Jacksonville does the
next couple of weeks. And then also, you know, if
you're the Bills, you don't have Matt mclonald, your pro bowler,
back till December. You've had Terrell Bernard injured. He's back.
Now you're linebacker, so that position is a need. And
then it's safety. You know you're playing Deamar Hamlin. I
think they would really love to use him more as
a third guy and then bring in someone with more experience.
(02:26):
So I don't believe the Bills by any means are
done at this point.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
All right, November fifth is the trade deadline. We saw
Devonte Adams move Amari Cooper. I mean it's the wide
receiver market. I mean, they get you, they can get
your cheap, free quick points. Very few teams are Green
Bay where they've got a bunch of good ones and
they're not getting paid yet.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
You're all young, Watson Dubbs like all of them. Yeah,
and the tight ends you know Craft and mus Grave,
they got all those young guys on rookie deals.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
You think the wide receiver market's going.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
To be explosive, explosive, so I mentioned Buffalo right, one
more note on them, twenty fourth and third down. When
you to your point, col, when you get a great
receiver come in, that changes what you can do on
third down absolutely, And look what's happened with them. So
and then also a veteran can come in and change
the perception of the locker room. There's so many things
that a receiver can do that's that can really not
(03:18):
just move the sticks, but change the perception of your offense.
That is going to be an explosive market. And if
you told me over under on receiver trades from this
point forward, over the next few weeks, I would say
over five. I believe that is going to be the
most coveted position, most active, most volatile position in the
trade market. And remember, too, colin the trade market or
(03:38):
the trade deadline was pushed back a week after it
was Halloween last year. Now it's a week into Thanksgiving,
so teams have more time to evaluate where there are
or maybe more importantly, where they're not. Cleveland and make
a move. I think that's going to be the most
volatile position.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Okay, Aiden Hutchison did the best you could do to
protect what has been a so so Lion. Second, they're
in a division with high powered offenses. They can't just
sit still. To me, Detroit, it's a Super Bowl window.
You're seeing Buffalo go all in. I think they got
to go all in. Is there anybody on the market
not name Max Crosby because.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
The Raiders do not want to move.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
He's like the foundational piece, So anybody else out there
for the Lions?
Speaker 3 (04:20):
There are some really good pass rushers out there. I
think what's going to come down to is for a
team like Detroit, who knows they need to not even
replace Hutchinson because you can't replace him. He's one of
the three or four best defensive players in the league.
But bulk up that defensive line, that pass rush I
would look at. There's probably three guys out there that
teams are calling on. Zadaria Smith is one of them
(04:42):
in Cleveland, really good player, three time Pro Bowler. The
issue for Detroit's going to be how much do we
want to give up? How much do we want to
go all in? This year, give up draft capital because
Brad Holmes the GM is drafted so well, and that's
going to have to be the push and pull.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
I would make this argument, though, there are very few
rosters in the league that could give up a first
round pick. They've got an edge rusher, their quarterback, productive
wide receiver, great running right line, it's a very good
defensive end draft. Ye, they've got Hutch and so my
take is there are very few teams that could withstand. Hey,
(05:17):
we can give the first round pickup. Rams did that
a few times.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
It works. It kind of worked. We got a Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
So so give me a name out there on the edge.
What about the kid from Jacksonville. There's a h.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
So you have Jacksonville has. They're not going to try
Trayvon Walker.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
They're not.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
They just I don't believe so for a number one pick.
He's starting to come into his own. They just they
just signed a Greek Armstead. If you're looking at Jacksonville'll
go back to Lloyd and Cisco. I think the name
that's come up the most for teams wanting a pass
rusher is a Darius Smith. Go back to him. There's
still there's a couple other guys out there. I'm not
willing to say sure are going to be moved necessarily,
(05:56):
but it really comes down to where you're at and
where're not at.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Again with the playoffs, Okay, so I think Dallas is trapped.
I think once you paid Dak what you paid him,
then you have to invest pieces to help him. I mean,
you can't if you're going to spend sixty million on
a B plus ish quarterback who is more of a
guy that can He's not going to pull an average roster,
but he can certainly be pulled and win a lot
(06:20):
of games, so might take it. I don't care if
you're a tech company or a football team. If you
make a massive investment on something, you have to make
it work. I think they have to find multiple first round,
second round picks. Go get the Boise State running back.
Help him out. Derrick Henry, I thought last year was
the pick. So what is the problem to you? What
are you hearing about the problem in Dallas.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
You're absolutely spot on with Derrick Henry. He trains in Dallas,
he lives in Dallas in the offseason.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
He wanted to go there.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
He would have absolutely loved to have been a cowboy
Jerry Jones did not want to pay for whatever reason.
Derrick Henry not even crazy money, and now he's leading
the league in rushing. He's over seven hundred yards rushing
six games. He's unbelievable. The problem for Dallas is they
have a lot of issues. Dan Quinn. Over the last
three years, they were top ten in defense across the board,
(07:07):
in every category. They bring in Mike Zimmer, I'm going
to give you the problem. It's the two mics, Mike
Zimmer and Mike McCarthy. I'm not going to say that
Mike Zimmer the game has passed him by, but his
philosophy is not working, and Jerry Jones takes no accountability
whatsoever goes after. The local radio host is constantly saying,
anybody that could be a GM, I dare you to
(07:28):
be better than me, Jerry, wake up and smell the coffee. Man.
You guys have not won a Super Bowl in thirty years.
You're not a relevant franchise.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
They're not close to a Super Bowl team now, not
close now.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
And I know they've had injuries with Digs and Bland
and Parsons and Lawrence, but they are over the last
four games. Calling at home one hundred and sixty seven
points allowed. That's the third most in NFL history. They
are dead last and run defense dead last in points allowed.
Even if dak is playing at the MVP caliber level
he was last year, they're not a super Bowl caliber team.
(07:58):
So McCarthy and Zimmer to me huge issues, and then
Jerry Jones really sitting on his perch. The biggest issue.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
By the way, you can close the gap with the
Belichick or Vrabel. Are those two guys even in the
running for Dallas.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
I would have loved to have seen Belichick be in Dallas,
but then you have to have Jerry Jones see some
of that control. To Bill, I thought, Mike Rabel's another guy,
great coach, but big ego. You know, it's my way
or the highway, and that can be really successful. He
took Tennessee to two AFC championship games. But Jerry is
gonna have to let go of some of that control.
(08:31):
Mike McCarthy's not that kind of personality, and until that happened,
until I believe Jerry's willing to do that, I'm not
gonna go there.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
You know, we've been on this. Green Bay and Pittsburgh
are big brands. Green Bay over the last twenty years
has said we're just gonna get offense right. You're often
disappointed in the defense, but they always get the offense right.
The Steelers have mostly been about defense, struggled to get
the offense right. So now we're seeing a potential Pacific Northwest.
Russell Wilson supplant just Fields, and I just wonder how
(09:02):
it plays in the locker room for a four and
two team, because Justin is so imminently likable.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
And what he said yesterday said everything he said, I
don't think I played well enough to be the starter
or to lock it in, and that's huge. He was
love in Chicago. Arthur Smith has talked about this no drama.
He gets it. I think one of the things that
Mike Tomlin has always said is I am not going
to have a starter, regardless of position, lose their job
(09:29):
because of an injury. So Russell Wilson has the calf problem,
Justin Fields comes in, he plays pretty well. They're four
and two, but I think Tomlin always believed that at
some point, with the healthy Russ, he would go back
to Wilson. So now he's going to give Uss that opportunity.
I believe most likely Sunday night against the Jets. I
want to get in Hassan Reddick too, because I know
we haven't talked about him, but one of the things
(09:50):
that you're going to see is a different offense. With
Justin Fields, they averaged about five yards per per throw,
five yards per attempt on play action. Russell Wilson last
year was over seven. They're gonna throw the ball more
down the field. That can mean more success for Friarmouth
as well as George Pickens, but also you lose that
X factor because Russell Wilson the year fourteen is not
(10:11):
the mover that Justin Fields is. So even if Russell
Wilson is starting, I still believe at some point you'll
see Justin Fields have a package. And I wouldn't shock
me at all even with a healthy Russ if they
went back to field at some point this season. And
then in terms of Asana Reddick.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Let's talk about that. So Hassan Reddick in Philly Jets
make a deal. They can't get him on the field,
hires Drew Rosenhouse, who's a deal maker. I do think
between Davante and Hassan Reddick, they are big third down
players respectfully on their side of the ball. Course, Davante
is a big third down target. Hassan just kind of
a pass rusher, that's what he does. But they need
(10:48):
that because they lost Huff to the Eagles. So what
is the latest on him? But I mean, mudy Johnson
keeps saying, come in, we'll get we'll drive you here.
You're a Jet. Where are we on that?
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Well, to your point about Drew Rosenhause, he's a deal maker,
get stuff done. There's a reason why guys go to
Drew Rosenhouse because he's gonna get a deal done. It's
not always going to be necessarily the best deal. He
gets deals done, he gets guys paid. Okay, that's the truth.
The reality with the Sono Reddick is that he has
from day one felt completely disrespected, disregarded and has lost
(11:18):
total trust in the Jets. I told you what happened.
He was traded. He turned down the below market offer
before the deal. The Eagles gave the Jets permission to
try and find that long term solution. They did it,
and they still make the trade. He has not been
in the building really in seven months. A Sonoreddick. There's
really three there's three things that could happen. One, they
could get a long term deal done. I think that's
the least likely. Two, they can restructure it because he's
(11:40):
already accrued about ten million dollars in fines and Drew
Rosenhows can tell him, if you do that, I will
get you a three to four year, multimillion, massive extension
in the offseason. And then three, Hassan can say I
don't want to play football this season for anyone. I
guess there's a fourth, which is the trade. A ton
of teams, including Detroit, have called Hassan Reddick. Joe Douglass
(12:02):
at some point. We talked earlier in the week about
I mentioned Salah when he got fired in DeVante. We
talked about self preservation. Okay, what I've been told and
I have not talked about this, I think it's important
to say. What I've been told by players and even
a couple of coaches, is that there is a sense
of fear operating within fear inside that jets building self preservation.
(12:24):
In fear, you don't necessarily know what you're gonna get
day in, week in and week out. I believe that
Joe Douglas, if they don't win is absolutely out. And
I also believe that Joe Douglas knows if he doesn't
get Hassan Reddick on the field this year, or if
he doesn't get a player or a pick back, it's
an incredibly bad look for him. He's going to have
(12:46):
to bite the bullet at some point on a money
situation or on a trade and get a pickback or
a player, but probably a pick because to your point,
he left, He let Bryce Huff leave the building. They
have gotten zero zero production from a Son Reddick. They
lost their Johnson, their pass Russ has seriously struggled. They
need more there, They absolutely need more there. So Joe
(13:06):
Douglas at some point is going to have to make
a decision, and I think a lot of it's going
to be based on self preservation.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Jordan Schultz. Finally, Caleb sort of righted the ship. Greg
Cosell told us earlier they've sort of defined his passes
for him. They've done a good job to not necessarily
simplify but define stuff. What are you hearing in Chicago?
Speaker 3 (13:26):
So the first two weeks they did not script plays
for Kayleb Williams, So they brought in Shane Waldron from
Seattle new offensive coordinator, and I think that was a mistake.
They didn't script plays, they didn't let him necessarily get
in the flow right away. What have they done since
week two? They've been scripting ten to fifteen plays to
start the game. And though not only have they been
doing it, but I asked the defensive coordinator what's the
(13:48):
difference in Kayleb Williams. He said, the number one difference
is that with the scripted plays, it's very specific to
his skill set and getting him in a rhythm. A
lot of quick throws, quick hitters, funch formations, prea motion.
It's the perfect balance for Caleb to get into a rhythm.
And then I asked Cliff Kingsbury. Throughout his tenure at USC,
we've talked about how he was there for a year
(14:10):
with him, and I said, Cliff, what's the biggest misconception
about Caleb? And what I thought he was going to
say was the attitude that he's a great kid, and
he said that as well. But what he told me,
and I'll never forget this, is Caleb Williams plays a
lot better on structure in the pocket that he's given
credit for. He makes these amazing Houdini like plays outside
the pocket, but he's great on time. Chicago now with
(14:31):
Shane Waldron, has adjusted their philosophy. Seattle with Gino Smith
like the three to four wide receiver, spread out, go vertical.
Caleb can do some of that, but at this stage
in his career, let's tighten the field, make it the
short and intermediate throws. Let him get in a rhythm.
And that's exactly what's happened. I think that's why you've
seen Keenan Allen, DJ Morrow Doonese start to hit. Comet
(14:53):
had two touchdowns last week, and they've also gotten the
running game. DeAndre Swift the last two weeks has been
the most productive running back in football. So Chicago is
certainly finding a rhythm. But I think Caleb Williams, you know,
we talk so much about all the plays he can
make in the pocket. He's pretty special as well.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
Jordan Schultz, Yeah, they last week was pretty impressive.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
Four touchdowns, one pick for.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
A young team that goes overseas unbelievable against the team
I mean, let's be honest, the team they face been
over there a few times.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Jacksonville. Yeah, yeah, jackson that's a the fact of home game. Yeah,
I think those are two franchises going.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
In very By the way, the Jacksonville gig quickly. Doug
Peterson's lost the locker room. According to you and others,
it's it's listening to Trevor Lawrence has regressed. He's still
better than average. Is there a name I should.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
Watch for potential trades?
Speaker 1 (15:42):
No? No, Jacksonville coach coaching.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Okay, so if they lose and they go one and six,
then they've lost back to back in London.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
And also to the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
To the Patriots and eleven out of twelve, that's what
that would be. The Only way that they blow this
thing up is if it reaches that urban Meyer level.
I was talking with j Mack before the segment. That's
the one time Shad Con the owner, has fired a
coach in season. I don't think Doug Peterson's at that
level yet because, as you know urban Meyer, it was
really rough in Jacksonville. But I do believe that he
(16:14):
needs to figure out some cohesion with Trevor Lawrence, Press Taylor.
He's he's the offensive coordinator. They paid him fifty five
million dollars. I'm not ready to say Doug Peterson's gonna
get fired if they lose. But I can tell you
that he's feeling the pressure. The organization's feeling the pressure.
And we talked about Caleb helping your quarterback. They need
to help Trevor Lawrence. They have all these good players there.
(16:36):
They you know, Brian Thomas, etn Bigsby Ingram, they have
Christian Kirk. They tried to upgrade the offensive line for
whatever reason, they have not figured out the quarterback and
that's the biggest I think, I would say biggest issue
for Doug Peterson. He's supposed to be a quarterback guru.
He has Trevor Lawrence and they have not gotten it done.
So to me, that's probably the most interesting job in
(16:56):
the next few weeks. But I'm still not ready to
say they're ready to blow it up. Thanks calling.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
at noon Easter nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app Jmac with the News, No,
No turn on the news. This is the Herd Line News.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
I feel like we've barely talked to Seahawks Falcons this week.
Speaker 5 (17:21):
I love this game.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
I think there's a lot of angles to take well.
Kirk Cousins uh is in a bit of a groove.
Speaker 5 (17:26):
They've won three straight.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
Or tied with Tampa, a top the division. The NFL
just announced Atlanta will host Super Bowl sixty two in
twenty twenty eight, which would be the final year of
Kirk Cousins zeal And.
Speaker 5 (17:39):
He was asked on whether the Falcons will be there.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Yeah, sotain'd be awesome, be awesome sooner.
Speaker 6 (17:46):
But I've always felt that, you know, going back to
making a decision in March to come here, you feel
like it's an organization that's going to give you every
chance to be able to do that. And so now
it's about, you know, stacking performances to give yourself that chance.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
Oha says, the right thing grown up twenty eight.
Speaker 5 (18:05):
Michael Pennock should be starting.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
You know five of the eighth divisions I've got right
right now is the leader, and one of them Philadelphia
if they win this weekend.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
Oh what's up with Michael Penix? Has he doing riding bond?
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Tell what he's doing. He's learning the game. He's learning
the game from a real pro.
Speaker 5 (18:21):
Can can you learn the game sort.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
Of like an understudy? Jordan love did just fine with that.
The understudy role is undervalued.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Okay, all right, I would say Penix is probably looking
around as he both never doing well.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
You ever notice I love Atlanta, but I don't like
betting him.
Speaker 5 (18:38):
Yeah, that's smart.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
They're frustrating. You can bet the Braves, you can bet
a sec football, you bet baseball. I don't yeah smart, No,
I mean, I know, I bet what I know. And yeah,
I mean, who can explain the Dodgers shutting out the
Podres shutting out the Mets. They don't have I mean
they have, I mean, I just don't. It's it's amazing
what they're doing. I don't know how anybody but he
(19:01):
bets baseball. I don't get it.
Speaker 5 (19:03):
Difficult. Let's go to the next story, and that's uh. Oh,
this gentleman by.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
The name of Brockberdy one of the best quarterbacks in
the NFL.
Speaker 5 (19:11):
Undeniably you refuse to give him credit. But that's fine,
No big deal, no big deal. Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnolo.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
Oh my gosh, listen to him gush about your guy, Brockberdy.
Speaker 7 (19:23):
Oh Jesus, I think the quarterbacks really good against zone
and finding those pockets and spaces. Hopefully we can get
the quarterback not to be in timing like he is,
because I can't find a weakness in this quarterback. Every
time I put the film on, I'm more and more impressed.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
If anybody didn't hear that, Steve Spagnolo are really best
DC in the league. He said, I can't find a
weakness when I throw on the brock Purty film.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
Now you know how coordinators are they?
Speaker 4 (19:50):
Everybody up, Oh Jesus pumping him up to tear him
down on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
First of all, I like brock Purty Ryan as a witness.
I like brock Purdy. Oh really, You've elevated him to
Lamar Jackson and it's like no, But I like him.
He's a smart, hard working kid from the Midwest. I
like him. Grew up in a small town in Arizona,
easy to kid to rule. I like him.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
So the great producers we've got here just put this together.
So in his career as a starter, Okay, you look
at these numbers, brock perty is so far and this
is not hyper hyperbole, this is stats. He is one
of the best quarterbacks all time minimum three hundred pass attempts,
all time Colin lookree riggs nobody better than him ever
(20:35):
in passer rating in his minimum three hundred pas attemps.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
So he's been free. So when you pay him and
he doesn't get this incredible toy department and he actually
makes more than a local weekend DJ in youma Arizona,
I mean, the kid's basically playing for free. Once you
have to pay him, the game change.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
I just I do love what you do with Lamar's
best running quarterback ever. All these first round quarterback picks.
Strong throws a big ball with Rock Party. It's like
he's a great story, a small town kid, last pick,
and we refuse to just admit what Spagnola said, Like
you can't play zone defense against Rock Party, he will
shred you.
Speaker 5 (21:16):
There's some quarterbacks who aren't good.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Again, for the record, everybody is shredding zone defense and
everybody plays it Will Levice has completed almost sixty seven
percent of his throws this year. Everybody in this league
now plays zone in. All the capable quarterbacks shred the zone.
That's like saying watching an NBA tape and saying Aunt
(21:37):
Edwards never misses a layup. Zone defense is just the
really good quarterbacks and Rock Party. He's a good quarterbacks.
Speaker 5 (21:47):
Okay, really good.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
So we agree the top four no order, Mahomes, Alan, Lamar,
and Burrow.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
Those are the top four. Is Purty in the next group?
Speaker 1 (21:58):
No, but you know it's fun. I like this.
Speaker 4 (22:05):
This has become my favorite, like back and forth on
the show between your bougie Gum.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
After I've already won the Luca and Jason Tatum arguments,
so you got to move to another one.
Speaker 5 (22:15):
How did you win that?
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Jason Tatum? For years it was like right top five player,
not even the best closer on his team of NBA
gms would not put him in the top but I
did get a single vote.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Wait a minute.
Speaker 4 (22:28):
This is the same Tatum who got like the highest
paid contract ever this summer, won an Olympic gold and
won an NBA title, and he's chopped Liver.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
Who's not getting a bag in the NBA. You got
Zach Levine's the next MJ.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
I love Zach Levine's final story calin Thursday Night Football
where the Saints, Oh man, this is just a this
is mass unit. No Derek Carr d do to the
oblique injury.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
They're down.
Speaker 4 (22:52):
Chris o'lave do the concussion and Rashid Shaheed, who is
gonna have meniscus surgery and likely out for the season.
Speaker 5 (22:58):
You can drop him in fantasy.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
I think this is a Bob Means that's like a
human being, that's a real guy. This is I don't
know who Spencer Rattler is throwing to tonight, but they
do not have a lot of auditions.
Speaker 1 (23:12):
Well, Denver has a very surprisingly good pass rush and
they don't have a lave or their deep threat, so
it's gonna be on Spencer Rattler. This is a tough ask.
I would imagine it'd be heavy Alvin Kamara probably, whatever
the props are, take touches for Alvin Kamara.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
Yeah, yeah, this is And Dennis Allen. There's no we
got We got a Saint Sky on the staff, and
even he's out on Dennis Allen. I know he's like
your least favorite coach in the league.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
That's nothing against him, but it's like he's been head
coach twice and his defenses football are not good. You
gotta get your side of the field, right.
Speaker 5 (23:47):
There's the numbers, some numbers out there.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
I know sometimes you're allergic to the numbers, but they
say that Dennis Allen's one of the worst coaches in
NFL history.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
Well that's we don't need to be a personal.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
I don't need to pile on gob Broncos.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
Just cover this thread. I like Denver twenty four to
twenty tonight, twenty four, twenty four to twenty.
Speaker 5 (24:03):
Okay, I think he said twenty four twenty two that.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
Four to twenty Broncos win and cover and the over huh.
I don't know what the over under it.
Speaker 5 (24:11):
I think it's thirty seven and a half. That's a
light total.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
But there's just not a lot of star power up
Courtland Sutton's like the best scale position player on the field.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
To no Courtland Soun's good. I think. I think Denver's
roster Mims, Courtland, Suckman, and Franklin. I like the running back.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
They have Javonte Williams and fumbles every week.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
Well, he's a nice player. He has a fumble issue.
So did the great Tiki Barber for a few years.
That happens. The great team Adrian Peterson was a fumbler.
Speaker 4 (24:38):
Okay, I'll give you that.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Jmack with the News.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
Herd line news.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
All right, best quarterback won every game last weekend? Will
it happen again?
Speaker 2 (24:52):
Next one? More heard. The Herd streams twenty four hours
a day, seven days a week within the iHeartRadio app
Search Herd listen live or on demand whenever you like.
Speaker 4 (25:03):

can see on NFL Network Sunday at nine thirty a
at Eastern.
Speaker 5 (25:14):
Go to the Fox Sports app and enterport a free
chance to win cast prizes.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
It isn't it really is interesting that if you look
at the baseball playoffs, is that everybody was complaining about
Aaron Boone. I mean they've been barking about Brian Cashman
and Aaron Boone forever, and the Yankees clearly looked like
the class of the American League. They were just patent.
And everybody's been barking about Dave Roberts forever, and he's
(25:42):
got a completely depleted pitching staff. I mean, he has
a rotation and a bullpen on the shelf right now,
and a good one, like a good starting rotation. O
Tani didn't pitch this year. Glassne from Tampa's the real deal.
So I mean it's it's we put this up earlier.
What the Dodgers don't have available in the postseason would
(26:05):
be a top what ten pitching staff, Tyler Glass, now,
Dustin May, Gavin Stone. I mean, that's what's not available.
And by the way, Yamamoto was hurt earlier this year.
Walker Buehler went four innings last night, So what's that. Yeah,
(26:27):
show Hayes not pitching, Yamamoto got hurt. Hees back Walker
Buler last two years. I mean, that's been a real struggle. So,
I mean, they are it's remarkable they've made it this far.
They shouldn't be here. And the fact that they're not
only here, but it's shut out after shutout against the
Podrays that were on fire and the Mets that were
on Remember about a week ago we're talking about how
(26:48):
great the Mets are seven eight, nine innings, hottest team
in baseball. Totally shut him down, Walker Buehler, second inning,
bases jammed gets Francisco Lindoor. That is the moment of
the postseason for the Dodgers. That was absolutely gigantic. And
then they brought on you know, five innings from their bullpen,
one guy at the very end of it. You know,
(27:10):
not a lot of not a lot of opportunities this year.
It's just all working. And both the Yankees and the Dodgers,
I mean the Dodgers GM Andrew Friedman nine years, Dave
Roberts nine years, the Lon Rosen's, you know, the ownership.
They've just kept everybody around for nine years. They don't
make a lot of moves there.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
R and D.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
The minority guys they call up work most of their
trades with one or two exceptions have hit and they
just you know, they just they cancel out the outside noise.
And Brian Cashman is the longest run tenured GM, and
I think Yankee history. They just cancel out the noise.
They don't overreact. But you watch the Jets, you know,
historically the Mets. You'll watch teams in these sports, Baseball
(27:55):
so different. You have one hundred and sixty two games,
so it's like a lot of opportunities to complain. I mean,
it's it's like you are literally with guys for seven
months every day. I mean, you're NFL. You got eight
road trips. I mean, really, you got eight road trips.
You start getting to these hockey and NBA and baseball
Baseball's double a hockey schedule. You're with a guy spring
(28:17):
training for a month and a half, then the season,
now the postseason you're living with You're on a plane constantly.
And the key to Joe Tory or a key to
a Dave Roberts or an Aaron Boone. It's the long play.
You know, you can't. You gotta be very careful. Nothing
against Larry Bull, but the fire starters in this sport,
it is. It is hard to last. Remember Billy Martin,
(28:40):
the old Yankee manager getting in, you know, these verbal
confrontations with Red G. Jackson. I know you hate that
Jay Max seventies baseball talk, but I think one of
the one of the keys here to a like a
Dusty Baker's history or Aaron Boone or Dave Roberts, Joe Tory,
they just wear well over time. They just bring the
(29:01):
heat down and the noise down and the fire down.
And that's incredibly valuable when you have one hundred and
sixty two regular season games and you're in New York
or LA as a market, just bring the heat down,
cancel the noise out, don't listen. Everybody's gonna be okay,
all right? Have we made it official on our upset
(29:22):
pick of the week. I demand this from you which Thursday.
I'm not asking for your bets. We're both I love
my blazing five tomorrow. Well, we need to define upset
Colin over a field goal. So three and a half
is like the line of demarcation over a field goal.
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
I hate to do this to Ryan back here, but
what's going on with the Browns Bengals.
Speaker 5 (29:43):
What's happening over there? Is that six and a half.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
Now Amari Cooper's gone, Mario's.
Speaker 5 (29:47):
Cooper gone, and the line ballooned up by two points.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
It's like, why he's not so so?
Speaker 4 (29:51):
I think nobody wants to touch the Browns. They did
cover against the Eagles last week. I just was digging
into some numbers on Burrow during the commercial break. One
in five against the Browns in his career, and it
just hasn't.
Speaker 5 (30:01):
Gone well for him.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
I don't know if they have his number or personnel wisely,
you know they can match up.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
You know, it's funny we always say offense wins on
this league, but you have to be able to play
a little defense because their offense is spectacular.
Speaker 5 (30:13):
By the way, that's not an official pick. For the record,
I was just looking.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
At the Browns. We you and I observe all day long.
We're lookers, we look for a living. See you tomorrow.
