Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
All right, let's pivot to college basketball slash NBA and
bring in John Fanta, Fox Sports College Basketball expert reporter. Everything. John,
How you doing man, j Mack?
Speaker 4 (00:38):
It is great to be with you. Fun time of year,
final start tomorrow, my friend. NBA draft is three weeks
from tonight.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Yeah, very excited. We'll talk drafts shortly. I got to
ask your your big Knicks guy you live in the region.
I'll just start. Maybe we can either get his name
on the list or off it. But mister Hurley at Connecticut,
I cannot imagine going to the Knicks. But you know him, well,
have you checked in with him? What's the latest?
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Well, I haven't checked in with Dan Hurley or but
but just looking at this situation Jason and talking to
some of the folks that are around him, it is
the new York Knicks that we're talking about here. So
of course, if they're going to be interested or reach
out to a guy like Dan Hurley in his shoes,
(01:27):
of course you're going to engage in dialogue. I think
that that is a job that he would take, and
he's even said, you know, when I look at the
Northeast roots, when I look at being from Jersey City
and being close to my family, it's the Knicks. It
is that type of a job. I don't think that
these conversations are that this buzz is going to progress
(01:50):
to the degree that we saw the Lakers thing last
year and the reporting off of that, talking about you know,
him staying at Yukon and whatnot, that whole situation, the
layers to it. I think we're gonna get down that road.
I just don't see it in the here and now
in twenty twenty five, I think, you know, you fire
Tom Thibodeau, You're now gonna hire a guy in Dan Hurley,
(02:10):
where if you go to the NBA, if he goes,
if whenever he goes to the NBA, when that happens,
and I think someday it could very well happen, because
I think he can do it, and I think it'd
be a fascinating movement.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
I think somebody's gonna make it.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
I think, to me, the time right now for him,
coming off of last year's drama and hysteria. I don't
think that these situations align. I think one the Knicks
have their mindset on somebody different.
Speaker 5 (02:38):
You know.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
I think that they're looking at it from the standpoint
of if they go and hire Dan Hurley, is it
a splash, Yes, but are there guarantees it's gonna work? Like,
remember you're going for green or grass when your grass
was already really green? And hiring Dan Hurley. As much
as I think he's a tremendous college coach, and I
really do think that he could have.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
A future, I'm I'm contrary.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
I know there's some people are like, I don't know
if his style were to the NBA, he would adjust things.
I just don't think that it's here and now. I
think four or five years from now maybe, But I
think he's happy at Connecticut and now after last year's craziness,
he's gonna stay. I don't see it. I don't see
things progressing. I truly don't see the match there. But
(03:18):
I do think if they were to reach out. Of
course he's going to entertain the discussions. He's in New
York Metropolitan Jersey guy.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Yeah, let me just float this one. It seems like
a pipe dream. But Jay Wright, the former Villanova coach
who seems really comfortable in TV and what looks like
an amazing quasi retirement for him, why would he come
back and take a high pressure New York Knicks job
where you're on the road a ton away from your family,
which he's obviously very close with.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
So what would you rather do?
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Call basketball games and have some cocktails with Bill Raftery
or take on the job that's going to have the
most pressure in the world. Because whoever's taking that job,
what is the standard? The standard is to win a
world championship like that. That is the fact of the matter.
And that's why this job now is so intriguing because
when you have that type of.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
A bar who wants that job?
Speaker 4 (04:10):
You know, who do you want to be a rising
star now having to take that job and your star
could just as easily fall because only one team gets
to hoist a Larry O'Brien trophy. Look, could I see
Jalen Brunson Michale Bridges and Josh Hart trying to orchestrate
the FaceTime call with Jay Wright. If they haven't already
in the last twenty four hours. Of course, I can
see that. I think it's gonna happen. I think they're
(04:32):
all gonna try. Jay Wright is enjoying Red Wine basketball,
his family television. I think he could be the voice
of the college national championship game down the road if
he wanted to coach again, Jason, he'd be the Villanova
coach right now, because that job just totally this spring,
(04:52):
and he lives right down the street. And oh, by
the way, he's already on the payroll there stone an
advisory role. Jay Wright is not going anywhere.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
I agree. Now, if memory serves, you're a Cleveland Calves fan, correct,
is that accurate from Cleveland?
Speaker 5 (05:05):
Yeah, you're from the boy raised.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
So it's weird. The Calves won more games in the
Knicks underachieved in the postseason, and what are they gonna
do this offseason? John? They're not making any big moves,
are they. I haven't seen anything, to the best of
my knowledge. Like they're kind of gonna run it back.
And that's what it sounds like, is that accurate.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
Well, they don't have the flexibility because of the second
Apron situation that they're in. They have a conundrum with
with what they can do from a roster flexibility standpoint.
They have committed to this core for and Kobe Altman
and Mike Yansey and their leadership have kind of doubled
and tripled down, at least publicly now. Jason, I think
(05:50):
there's a difference. Like you, we talk about this all
the time, and you're such a hoops guy yourself. I
love talking hoops with you. Everybody's like, Okay, blow it all.
It's either it's all or nothing. In our world, it's like, okay,
blow it all up or you stam pat. I actually
think Cleveland's in a position where they don't have to
blow it all up. You're not You're not going to
(06:11):
You're still relatively young. I mean, Evan Mobley's twenty three
years of age, and I still think he's gonna continue
to soar. I think Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland they
just haven't fit Jason health or not. Darius Garland has
now had three postseasons to really show something. I understand
he was hurt, but I think that that's the best
(06:33):
chance for Cleveland to potentially make a move is to
potentially move Garland and try to recalibrate some of the pieces.
I like what they did in the deadline, Like I
like that DeAndre Hunter move. Yeah, And I think I
think Jared Allen. Jared Allen's been an easy target because
he has gotten out toughed in the playoffs. But I
don't think simply changing Jared Allen for another big man's
gonna solve the Cavs issues. To me, Donovan Mitchell's fighting
(06:56):
this demon in his career. He can't get to the
conference file. You can't get there. I'm in the class.
I don't know what class you're in. You can't just
go status quo tho. Okay, well run it back. And
there's enough signs for us to say that this is
gonna end up working.
Speaker 5 (07:14):
There are enough signs in Cleveland, they've had a couple
of years to do it.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
Whereas I think there were more signs with the Knicks
after this postseason, which is.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
Why this news came.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
No matter what side you're on, and I thought when
the Pistons Knicks series was even at a game apiece,
we all know what the smoke was.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
The smoke was the Knicks could move on from Tibbs J.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Matt.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
Where there's smoke, there's fire.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
And when executives, when the scuttle starts to break that
maybe a coach could be on the hot seat. That
tells me one, if they're thinking about it, yeah, and
if they're starting to commit to it, it's gonna take
a whole hell of a lot for them to go
back on that.
Speaker 5 (07:55):
Yeah, they were thinking.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
They were clearly thinking about this for a while. The
Knicks were underwhelming in the regular season heading into the playoffs.
People did not see this run coming. That's why it
was pretty refreshing. That's why it rated as well as
it did the Knicks always do, but as well as
it did on TV and as we were so compelled
by it. But if you're starting to think about something
and then you start to commit to something, you're gonna
(08:19):
do it, whether it's the right move or not. Emotion
plays a part in this, and James Dolan and his
team felt that it was the right time to do this.
But in the NBA, like organically building second eight roster
construction super important. But to me, it's still not a
status quo league. Even if you go out and get
a third or fourth guy. Right now, the third or
(08:40):
fourth guy in your rotation is as important as it's
ever been. You could have a one in two. You
can't just have a one in two and win a championship.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
So I brought up the kaz because they're not doing
anything despite a postseason failure. The Indiana Pacers last year
swept in the Eastern Conference finals. Did nothing, didn't fire,
the coach kept their top seven. They're now in the
NBA Finals, and I just wonder if the Knicks made
a bit of a mistake. But I digress. Let me
quickly ask you your latest mock draft. Obviously, Cooper Flag
(09:09):
go to the MAVs. It's at Fox sports dot com.
Dylan Harper, not a huge surprise to the Spurs. I
think it's three is a bit of a minor curve ball.
So Edgecomb is bouncy dude, reminds me of Russell Westbrook.
But Ace Bailey is one of these potential unicorn types
you have in sliding to four. Care to explain that one.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
John, So for me, if I were Philadelphia, I do
everything I could to trade that pick. And I think
they already are trying to Philadelphia is also in a
window where their assets are a little bit restricted themselves.
I would try to collect more of them, and in
that case, maybe Jason, we see the Jazz or the Wizards,
(09:53):
somebody in that four or five sixty seven zone say
you know what, I gotta have Bailey, because look, I
talked to college coaches all the time, and there was
a ringing thing about Ace Bailey and that was and
the consensus was he's one of the most unique athletes
that we've seen the draft, that he's got guard skills
at six foot ten, really unique player, can make difficult shots.
(10:17):
Here's the problem, Jason, Okay, the problem is he needs
the ball to function. Philadelphia doesn't have that luxury. If
Philadelphia is trying to win. Now, I'm not gonna draw
stuff up for a kid who, frankly I like his game.
He needs time. He needs time. He is very raw still,
(10:37):
in my humble opinion, like he can make tough shots,
but he's undisciplined in his shots.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
Selection at times.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
So I have him gone to the Hornets because I
still think they've got their fair share of shots to
go around. And I think if I'm Charlotte I take
that shot, and I go for him. I'm just a
little bit uncertain about Bailey. I don't like the FID
in Philadelphia just you know, maybe the same degree as others.
I just am not I'm not a fan there as Edgecom.
To me, I think Philly could continue to use different
(11:03):
perimeter assets. I think Edgecomb's a willing defender. He's alltra athletic,
he can move the basketball, he makes the right place.
That's why I went in that direction. Bailey to me
in Philly, I don't like the thing all right.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
One more so I like Igor. I see you have
him rising BYU John Off the top of my head.
Are your top nine guys all freshmen? I think the
Washington State kid who is a big riser, he's not
a freshman, right, My top.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Nine are all freshmen and in the lottery, so the
top fourteen, all but two are freshman. This to me
is the best draft night since pre COVID year. Who
Cooper flag at one?
Speaker 5 (11:47):
Jason?
Speaker 4 (11:48):
To me, it's the American story small town Maine. I
covered this kid at Peach Jam. I remember, here's my
Cooper flag story for you'll love this. I remember walking
into the gym down of Peacham, which, for those who
don't know, Peach Gym is the premier grassroots recruiting event
down in South Carolina every July. I walk in and
(12:09):
Lebron James is coaching that day, he was coaching Bryce,
and he's around and he's hanging out, and a bunch
of people are noticing that.
Speaker 5 (12:20):
But the gym was full.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
And all I hear from behind me is someone say, oh, wow,
Lebron's coaching, And two people turned and said, yeah, but
I'm here to see Cooper.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
Everybody was there.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
Everybody was there to see Cooper flying. This kid doesn't
care what people think about him in an era of
social media. He just goes man. He plays. He is relentless.
From a competitive standpoint. I think he is the best
defensive prospect I've seen in my ten steady years of
covering college basketball. The kid is relentless on that end
of the floor. Then you've got Harper going to you know,
(12:52):
the son of an NBA great. You've got a ton
of really unique freshman talent in this draft. To your point,
concoct Nipple on a Duke Tree Johnson, I think on
a breakfast skill. I love this class and I do
think Draft Knight is gonna deliver some curve balls as well?
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Yeah, I totally agree with that. John Fanta you can
check out his mock draft at Fox sports dot com. Obviously,
he is one of the best in college basketball. Great stuff, John,
and we'll talk to you soon, buddy.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
Thank you, j Max, appreciate you right.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
Good stuff from John Fanta. I'm not as high on Cnipple,
but that's getting granular, all right. The Herd for the
final thirty minutes is moving to the Fox Sports App.
Next on FS one is the UEFA Nations League. You
see that gentleman right there, Christiano Ronaldo. Listen, it doesn't
get much better than Christiano Ronaldo playing soccer. I believe
(13:43):
he's forty. I mean, this guy is just an unbelievable athlete.
After this, she'll be on a yacht with his beautiful
wife and family. Enjoy the soccer. Run the Fox Sports app.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and newon Easter not a Pacific.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
All right, we are back here on the Herd. Let's
go to Alex with the news on the news.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
This is the Herd Line news.
Speaker 6 (14:13):
Well, j Mack, we're starting in the NFL and Shadoor
Sanders may not have been a first round pick, but
he's first in something else for all rookies Jersey sales,
the Browns fifth round pick led rookies in Jersey sales
for all of May. His former teammate Travis Hunter, a
second and number one overall pick. Cam Ward has the
third most popular jersey. But this shouldn't surprise anybody. He
(14:36):
is the biggest name in the biggest brand to come
out of the draft. And I said this yesterday. I
hope Schador goes out there and proves everybody wrong and
just shows up on the field. He's had a great
attitude since getting drafted by the Browns. He has a
great mentor in Tom Brady, not his dad. Tom Brady
has been public about saying that he's called and talked
(14:59):
to Chadors after the draft and he told him, doesn't
matter where you're drafted, all that matters is day one
at camp.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Because that's where you earn your spot.
Speaker 6 (15:06):
If anybody can attest to that, it's Tom Brady, who
went in the sixth round, one hundred and ninety nine pick.
He's to go more rings than any franchise. But yeah,
it's he's he's got good people surrounding him besides just
his dad, that we're slowly finding out was probably a
big factor in a lot of the negativity and.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
Attitude to shoot the whole jersey sales. I'll never understand,
like they gotta take it on the fifth round to
get his visits.
Speaker 7 (15:34):
Why Like brand matters, You're branding your name recognition, Like
you're talking about super teams and superstar teams. If he's playing,
fans are going to tune into that game to watch
the Browns.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
I'll be acus of Shoodoor Sanders. You know what. I'll
take a picture when I'm home and of the jerseys
I own. I know Matt and Liner will get so upset.
He's like, you can't wear jerseys what I only have?
Speaker 6 (15:57):
There's there's certain people who are jerseys. You're a jersey guy.
And Johnson you were tank top jerseys. Don't you only
tank tap jerseys?
Speaker 3 (16:04):
Come on bad, very magic Johnson, Patrick Ewing messy, which
isn't a tank top. I got for christs and it
was Oh. The Dwayne Wade jersey is the best one
from the heat because of the color and it looks great.
It's given like my skin tone, the color is.
Speaker 6 (16:19):
I'm not a jersey person, but like you are a
jersey person.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
You should see.
Speaker 6 (16:24):
Oh, I can see him out the corner of my eye.
I can feel it, I can feel the energy.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Jerseys are cool.
Speaker 6 (16:32):
Let's move to Seattle the Seahawks game. Sam Donald a
three year, one hundred million dollar contract is off season
with the expectation that he'd be the starter.
Speaker 8 (16:40):
Now.
Speaker 6 (16:40):
Seattle drafted you and Nola in the third round, and
Donald reportedly had a few bad practices. Despite that, head
coach like Donald said, any questions about his starter are
a waste of time.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
Is there anything that could happen other than an injury
between now and the beginning of the season that would
lead to a free quarterback? You guys are crazy.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
There's no way to ask the question with that sound
like an like I respect you got to ask you
for like, there's you guys.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
It's just a crazy question.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
There's just not gonna like Sam's are starting quarterback.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
We love him, He's doing a tremendous job.
Speaker 6 (17:15):
Yeah, this is gonna be a real big test year
for Sam Donald. He's not with the quarterback whisper in Vikings,
head coach Kevin O'Connell. Can he be that same quarterback
not in Kevin O'Connell's system. Now he is going to
have another like top tier weapon if he can stay
healthy because Seahawks obviously also signed Cooper Cup and he's
(17:37):
kind of I thinking approve it year as well, like
proof to the rams, like I'm not done, I'm not
watched up.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
I can still be great.
Speaker 6 (17:44):
So again, this is a lot of news, a lot
of new in this situation. And with Sam Donald, like
the question was before last season, like is he really
a starting quarterback?
Speaker 8 (17:55):
But then.
Speaker 6 (17:57):
He was with Kevin O'Connor, who everyone wants to be with,
who makes every quarterback great? Can he still be great
without Kevin O'Connell.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
So our next guest, I just checked. He sent me
off the bets that he's made for the upcoming season. Yea,
nothing on Seattle, but oh my gosh, what well he's
coming on in like seven minutes. But nothing on Teattle.
By the way, the backup is Jaylen Milroe. He's not
he's a rookie. He's not taking the job. No oh no,
And I see Drew Locke is listed on the depth jar,
(18:25):
but we know he ain't.
Speaker 6 (18:26):
Think No, No, he said it's gonna be Sam Dorman,
like they paid him one hundred million dollars.
Speaker 5 (18:32):
He's the guy.
Speaker 6 (18:33):
It's just again like this is my biggest question, like
the moment he left the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Can he be the same guy?
Speaker 6 (18:40):
Not in Kevin O'Connell system.
Speaker 3 (18:42):
I'm not gonna have him.
Speaker 6 (18:43):
No, it's gonna be hard. I mean, you do have
Cooper Cup again, but can't he stay healthy? You got
a good weapon, all right, let's end in Texas. CJ
Stroud had a bit of a down here last year
after taking the league by storm as a rookie. Now
at Ota, CJ has been on the sidelines participating.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Due to shoulder swords.
Speaker 6 (19:02):
Now head coach Jimika Ryan says it's nothing to worry about.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Hey, there's no concerns with CJ. He's just general soreness.
We're taking antion for casting with him. But he'll be
good to go.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
No concerns on my end there.
Speaker 5 (19:14):
When he's ready to go, he'll be ready to go.
Speaker 6 (19:17):
Hell, he obviously had a bit of a sophomore slump
after his Rookie of the Year season.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
But he took a beating in the pocket last year.
Speaker 6 (19:23):
He was sucked fifty two times, the second most in
the NFL, and then their playoff loss to the Chief
he sucked eight times, pressured fifty six percent of his dropbacks.
But he also like he lost a lot of his
weapons during the season. He lost fun Diggs, pinked out
Ingle Collins, their offensive coordinator got fired at the end
of the year. So now he's gonna have a new
offensive coordinator. So again, it's a lot of a lot
(19:45):
of change. But when you look at his rookie season
to year two, I think the two biggest things that stand.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Out his touchdown to interception.
Speaker 6 (19:51):
He was twenty six and five his rookie year and
then twenty one and thirteen in his second year, and
then sacked and his rookie Rookie of the Year season
thirty eight times and then.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
His year two sixty three times. Not great. So let
me just have rudos Alex. He hasn't thrown a football
pass in six months? Yeah? Six months?
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (20:12):
How does he have shoulder sores?
Speaker 6 (20:14):
That maybe he was doing some like other off season
training before OTAs.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
I mean, it's possible that he did absolutely nothing and
then he overworked it at the beginning or leading up
to Yeah, but I'm.
Speaker 6 (20:26):
Here to me working out to build up to OTAs
in the off season. Right, you have your own personal
training and in your own workout schedule, your own program.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
So okay, hold on, So the staff is now saying that.
The media later pressed Damico Ryans, did CJ. Stroud have
any procedures done?
Speaker 7 (20:44):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (20:44):
And he refused to answer it. So it's possible that
Stroud is coming.
Speaker 6 (20:48):
Rome probably got some Yeah, he probably got like a
little little clean.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Up, clean up. Yeah, not in the majors. That interesting,
not great, Alex with the news.
Speaker 8 (20:57):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
Herd Line news.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
All right, coming up next, all these dopes betting Shador
Sanders to win Rookie of the Year. Let's see what
an actual gambler, a serious gambler, says about that next
year on the Herd.
Speaker 2 (21:14):

free Eastern on ABAC, then at sixth eastern on Fox
DC takes on Saint Louis the UFL Conference Championships this
Sunday on ABC and Fox.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
All right, welcome back our next guest. I'm you know,
I try to push to get new guys on here,
and this guy is just so good. Last year he
came on the show and said, you know, I like
Eagles to beat the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. So
I went and Bettett in Vegas. Oh, it was a
great hit. Adam Chernoff, professional gambler. Let's welcome in into
(22:53):
the herd. Adam. How you doing, my man? We do
have a little bit of breaking news. It's not real news,
but it's like Ota news. So the Cleveland Browns had
a passing drills today and Shadeur Sanders is the lone
quarterback of their four Deshaun Watson still hurt to not
get reps with the first team. Now, Adam, we saw
(23:16):
that Shador is the most bet rookie of the year
by all these dopes out there. Can you talk some
sense into these people? And Shadur's not gonna be the
guy like they don't get it.
Speaker 8 (23:28):
I have no rationale to talk sense into any of
them if they're going out and betting that it's twenty
five to one that's a ridiculous price to even consider
first fourth string quarterback.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Let's call it what it is.
Speaker 8 (23:39):
It's not a speculation on what he might be in
the future, but this year, like you said, there's a
good chance he doesn't see the field. I was reading
articles two days ago that we're talking about how great
Joe Flacco has looked and how much command he's had
of the practices and the huddle and the players around him.
So no, there's no rationale for betting him Rookie of
the Year. And if someone wants to do it, I
can't talk any sense into them.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Yeah, Cleveland's going to be fascinating. Dylan Gabriel, just before
we get to gambling, what do you make of the
Every analyst and according to leading up to the draft,
had him late round if at all. The Browns grab
him in the third. Albert Burer came on here was like, listen,
Stefanski loves his character, his ballplace release, getting the ball
(24:20):
quick release. Does that surprise you? It's Dylan Gabriel.
Speaker 8 (24:25):
Everything that the Browns did in the draft passed the
first round surprised me quite frankly. The direction they went
with the running backs with multiple quarterbacks. I don't understand it,
given where they are. I don't understand the fit with Gabriel,
And if this season goes as terribly wrong as it
looks like it might, is defanski going to be there
long enough to realize any of those traits to begin with.
I don't know. So I don't understand that fit. I
(24:47):
don't understand what the Browns did in the draft, and
I don't understand it quite frankly, So it's it's ugly
for the Browns.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
Yeah. So Adam, you know, basically does as much extensive
offseason work as any I know into the NFL. And
he's sent me a couple of bets he made. Now.
The first one's obvious. He likes the Bills a lot
this year. Who doesn't. But I guess I'll say this,
The AFC is kind of sort of loaded, and the
Kansas City Chiefs still exist. So why do you like
(25:16):
the Bills to come out of the AFC at them?
Speaker 8 (25:19):
Well, it is loaded, you're right, But the Bills have
the clear path to the one seed. I think about
the chief schedule, the Bengals schedule, the Ravens schedule. They
all have really tough paths to get through the season,
to get through their division. Even while the Bills stand
alone on their own. They've got the easiest division that
any of these teams are going to be competing in.
(25:40):
They've got the easiest schedule. The way that it broke
for them is really beneficial, and all of their tough
games are going to be at home, and a lot
of them are backloaded in the second half of the season.
So while all these other teams are going through their
own gauntlets in the division and battling each other, here
you have the Bills on this easy track where they
can stack wins, figure things out, and be prepared in
(26:01):
the second half of the season. So I bet their
win total over eleven and a half. I've bet them
to win the AFC. I've bet them in a Super
Bowl EXACTA against the Rams at forty four to one.
Bet them to win the Super Bowl as well. I
think the path is very clear. I think McDermott now
has enough weapons to be more aggressive and key downs defensively.
I like everything about the Bills, and as competitive as
(26:23):
the AFC might be, the Bills just have that easy
path compared to the other teams.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
So a team, you're a little down on is the
Detroit Lions. I said earlier this week, I think they
could miss the playoffs. The Frank Ragnow retirement is much
bigger than I think the general public realizes. New offensive coordinator,
new defensive coordinator, divisions improved. Where are you on the
Lions at them?
Speaker 8 (26:47):
I bet under ten and a half wins for Detroit,
And like you said, the new coordinators on both sides
of the football, I think is a big question mark.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
Now.
Speaker 8 (26:54):
The pushback I get is, well, the Eagles had new
coordinators last year and won the Super Bowl plays both sides.
I look at that Eagles scenario is completely different from
the Lions. You think about Ben Johnson and just the
amount of brain power and offensive command that was lost
that's really hard to replace. The defense might not fall
off as much as it might be perceived to be,
(27:15):
but I think trying to replace both those coordinators as significant.
This is the first time since twenty sixteen Jared GOB's
rookie year that he hasn't had a top five play caller,
even top three play caller in his ear guiding him
through things pre snap, setting things up. So that's going
to be a big question mark for how that looks
(27:35):
you mentioned Frank Craig. Now that's a massive blow to
the offensive line. There's also a very brutal division in
the NFC North that they have to get through. So
I think there's more negatives here than positives for Detroit,
I bet under ten and a half win.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
Right, We'll go one more win total real quick. And
that's the Arizona Cardinals. I actually wrote about them for
Fox sports dot Com this week. I think there is
a bit of a sleeper in the NFC. Again, I'm
not a Hugeler Murray guy, but continuity. It looks like
they're gonna have ten of eleven starters back on offense,
both coordinators, back, head coaches back. Is there a world
(28:10):
where the Cardinals kind of surprise some people? Or is
the division you love the Rams Niners have the easiest
scheduled league. Is the division just too tough for Arizona?
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Division is going to be tough.
Speaker 8 (28:19):
But I think the Cardinals find a way to get
into the playoffs, and I think they go over their
win total of eight and a half. You mentioned the
offense and the continuity. The identity stays together for another
year as well. If they fix some things on the
right side of the old line. It's such a physical
offense and heavier personnel that's so good running the ball.
They get anything from Harrison and Murray this year. I
(28:40):
think there's an arrow ticking up on offense, but defensively,
that's where the leap is coming. This defense, even last
year when it struggled, just plays so hard for Jonathan
Gannon and now they have pieces. That defensive line was
significantly rebuilt this offseason. They had a great draft in
both up front and in the set andary. I think
(29:01):
this defense can play into the top twelve. Honestly, I
think this team has a chance to be top twelve
on both sides of the football. I think the Cardinals
take a big lead from four wins to eight wins
season one to two. I think they can sort of
test ten wins here as a team this year. So
I'm very high on the Cardinals. I bet they're over
I think they're going to be really good on both sides.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
So now you're leaving me perplexed. You like the Rams, Niners,
and Cardinals. So that's three playoff teams. So what is
Washington not getting back? What's going on in the NFC
North or the Eagles falling tumbling down the lot.
Speaker 8 (29:35):
Well, Washington has a brutal path and a brutal schedule
this year. Like I get that the rosters improved quite
a bit, but that's a tough road for them to navigate,
being put in so many standalone games, being put in
a tougher division. The Eagles their favored to win fifteen
games right now on the look aheadline, so they're going
(29:56):
to be again very very good, but that's again a
big leap and schedule. A lot of projections that I
have for them have them going under their win total,
so I don't think it's going to be as easy
for them this year as it was last year to
run through teams. And you have another competitive team in
Dallas that's going to make that division a lot tougher
with Prescott coming back and a new coach and a
(30:17):
new identity on that team as well. So that NFC
East is going to be very very difficult. The North
is going to be very difficult. You look at these
teams in the West with pretty easy paths. That's why
I tend to have a few more wins on that
side than I do out easy.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Okay, one team in the North Woo can hit, and
that's a Minnesota Vikings. I kind of went on a
rank yesterday about how great JJ McCarthy's going to be,
and then I got a DM from a former NFL
quarterback who said, whoa J mack pump the Rakes call me?
What do you think about McCarthy and the Vikings.
Speaker 8 (30:49):
It kind of went on a rant that's probably under
selling as much as anything you've done in the last
few weeks. My phone's been going crazy with your clips.
I thought I was calling into a JJ McCarthy fo
today quite honestly. I mean you're talking last segment about
ordering jerseys. You probably have one on the way for him.
The way you were talking about I look ceiling from Minnesota.
(31:11):
Everything goes right like it did last year. You have
an elite head coach, an offensive play caller, you have
a brilliant defensive coordinator, and you put a quarterback into
a top five roster in the NFL. It may turn
out like last year where the quarterback does enough, a
lot is going to be there to support JJ McCarthy
and you get a really great season again. But the
(31:32):
counterpoint to that would be, you look at how this
could kind of play out if JJ McCarthy is a
little bit slow starting and some of the issues in
the secondary that they didn't quite fix kind of come
to a bit of a head and this is a
bit of a slow start unlike last year. And this team,
who has a very big home field advantage, one of
(31:53):
the biggest in the NFL, has all of these tough
games stacked at home, and they're going on the road
with AUP International games and some tough opponents on the road.
I could see this floor being seven wins from Minnesota.
So I say all that to say, I think eight
and a half wins is a good number for Minnesota.
(32:13):
I don't share the same optimism that you do for McCarthy,
but I will say there's a lot of pieces around
him coaching and personnel wise to support him and kind
of negate some of the issues. But I think eight
and a half is a good number.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
So I'm assuming you have Packers winning the division.
Speaker 8 (32:29):
I have the Packers winning the division.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
Yes, interesting, all right? Adam turn Off Gambling Machine. Follow
him on social media. He has a simple handicap betting podcast.
It's terrific. Adam, thanks a lot, And that was funny
about Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Good stuff, Thanks very much, Jet you as soon.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
I've known Adam for I don't five five six years.
I've had him on my podcast a ton. He's honestly like, listen,
you guys know me, Okay, I play a lot of basketball.
I think I'm the best shooter I know. Then you
start playing games with other dudes, and there's some guys
who are really good. I've had a pretty good run
in gambling. Adam Turnoff is freaking really really good at gambling,
(33:07):
especially on the NFL. All right, hey, listen, really good show,
Alexi Lallis, Adam Chernoff. We had Mitch Lawrence firing some bombs. Listen.
Who knows what's gonna happen tomorrow?
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Yeah, I think we'll be back.
