Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
He's been covering the Dallas Cowboys for twenty seven years.
They hold their camp here in California. They moved it
out to like Wichita Falls in Austin, Texas and realized, well,
steamy too high, so they moved it here. Clarence Hill
Junior is joining us at Clarence Hill Junior on Twitter,
Senior writer fort Worth Star Telegram. Whenever we have an
opportunity to bring him in studio, we do. Let's start
(00:49):
with the obvious thing. Jerry does this thing. It's like
he's trying to squeeze the jew seet a more press
on CD Lamb and it's like, Jerry, you got a
thin running room, Your tight ends are okay, ceedee Lamb.
I could argue, is you take him out of that offense, Clarence,
that's a bottom six seven offense, isn't it. Don't have
(01:10):
to sign him now.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Of course, the City Lamb is the threat that people
worry about, that scares the other defense. You don't really
have anybody that scares any one on that offense other
than CD Lamb. Now, I would say that Jake Ferguson
is a rising tight end. Don't don't sleep on Jake Ferguson.
But yeah, they need cd c. CD is the guy
that that other defenses have to worry about, and so
they're going to get him in. It's just a matter
(01:33):
of when Jerry's never just go back and think about it.
Maybe one player Jerry wanted to keep one big time
story I wanted to keep that he didn't keep.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
My criticism of Jerry has been much like the Lakers.
It's very insular. It's friends of Kobe Bryant's agent runs
the team. I think sometimes a fresh set of eyes
is really valuable. And you know, Jerry and the Cowboys
generally lead the league in resigning their own players, which
validates their picks.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Is it a fair criticism?
Speaker 3 (02:07):
I mean, when you haven't won since nineteen ninety five,
everything can be scrutinized.
Speaker 5 (02:12):
Everything is on the table.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
How they do business, everything they do, coming to California,
making everything about the circus, making everything about money. You know,
everything is on the table to be criticized with Jerry,
Joe and solely, but.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
He's never changing the GM.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
He's going to be the gym as long as he
has a breath. He's not changing that format. And no
sleep on the fact that Will McClay, the scouting director,
has a lot of input and how they run things.
He's certainly done a great job with the draft picks.
You know, they've had a lot of successful draft picks.
He listened to Will McClay.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
But they're not changing the order of how they run.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
This franchise with Jerry's owner and Gim and Steven Jones's
the vice president.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
But yeah, when you have it won, everything is up
for scrutiny, for sure.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
There have been reports. I've seen some video where camp
was sparsely attended. Now it could have been the time
a day it gets darn hot, knock snart at noon.
Do you feel I saw a study Clarence recently. I
think it led my show about a month ago where
seventy eight percent of Cowboy fans do not think they'll
win a Super Bowl this decade. Now, you have no
(03:14):
idea what's gonna happen, but for a fan base as
large and as loyal as Dallas, that is something. Do
you feel like this has been sort of a buzzless
off season?
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Oh well, buzz Listen the fact that they haven't signed anybody,
which they don't generally they haven't done that. But yeah,
I think the fan base is as frustrated and as
disillusioned as I've ever seen, you know, And certainly that's
that bears out, and you know, the talk on social media.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
Jerry Jones will certainly point out that season.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Tickets have been sold and they resold and recommitted at
ninety nine percent commitment rate. If the stadium will be
full when they go home and when they open the
regular season, the Cowboy fans will be at the stadium.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
But generally most.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Of the fans, they're they're frustrated, their disillusion you know,
it is not just about this current teams.
Speaker 5 (04:01):
Again, we're talking about twenty eight years.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Since they last won a Super Bowl title, twenty eight
years since the last been to the NFC title game.
Speaker 5 (04:10):
That's what's on top.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Of what Dak and mc McCarthy and Zeke and City
and maca Partsons are facing not only their failures but
the failures of all the teams before them.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Because of the gambling revenue, which has increased twentyfold in
the last five years. Because of the television contracts, the
salary cap keeps going up, but there are I mean,
they're redoing Mahomes deal every eighteen months. Like you've got
to stay up on this thing. There's a pretty linear
line between highest paid quarterback out early in the playoffs.
(04:43):
You can't have the same. I mean, Kansas City can't
pay for receivers, you see. I mean, Mahomes overcomes it.
So what's the number with DAK That is good, it's
great money for DAK, but it doesn't hamstring the team.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Well, I mean I think that people look at what
Tom Brady did, and with Mahome, they're one of one.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
Okay, they're one of one that okay, but that's a
that's a different era, you know, But yeah, they're one
of one.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
I mean, you know, Joey b is getting paid top
money and then the receiver ones get paid. The quarterbacks
that owe it to themselves over to their families to
get as much as they can when they can because
his careers are short and Mahomes'.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
Deal is gonna get fixed and fixed again.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
I just think he signed a bad deal, you know,
if you look at the real numbers. But the baseline
for Dak is fifty five million. You know, there's talk
that he could get sixty or more on the free
agent market.
Speaker 5 (05:35):
So what's the happy medium? What is the miniable of
both sides?
Speaker 3 (05:38):
The Cowboys want to sign Dak, Dak wants to stay
in Dallas. But Dak's not gonna take a bad deal.
He's not gonna take a lesser deal. He owes it
to his family, he owes it to other quarterbacks to
have a good deal.
Speaker 5 (05:49):
Now, how do you marry it to before the start
of the season. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
I know Dak told us yesterday he was very encouraged
if he had good talks. He feels good. He feel
confident they will will get a deal done. But until
they get a dead done, is this talk that's gonna
be to speculation again. You have to do right by
Dak because he has fraid to see in the back pocket.
You know, he unrestrict your phraidency is staring him in
the face with untold millions coming from the Raiders or
(06:15):
whoever else that will make him the highest paid quarterback
in NFL history, So it has to be a good deal.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
Mike McCarthy, I've said this, I think Nick Sirianni's hot
seat is greater than Dallas's because I don't think Jalen
Hurts loves his coach. I think Dak and McCarthy are
respectful of each other, and it works when they win
twelve games a year. So I think Mike's hot seat
is not Matt Eberflus. That's a hot seat, Nick Sirianni
a Dennis Allen. I think there's real hot seats, and
(06:43):
there's only a handful of Andy Reid's and mcveigh's that
have no hot seat right like the whole league's on
a hot seat usually. It's my view from outside that
Jerry's actually historically gives a coach longer than I would,
that he is reasonable and fit. When I say hot
seat to Mike McCarthy, do you notice you've been around
(07:04):
it more than anybody?
Speaker 4 (07:05):
Do you sense the pressure? Do you feel that hot seat?
Speaker 3 (07:09):
You know that you know I've talked to Mike about
it in the camp this year. He does not look
like dead Minwaukee. You know, he does not look like
a guy he's not coaching. He doesn't interact with us
like a guy that's facing the guilty, you know, and
that's this. You know, the facts are he does not
have a contract past this season. The entire coaching staff
are on one year deals. More than thirty players are
on one year deal. So we understand what's at stake here.
(07:32):
You know, there is no tomorrow for Mike McCarthy pass
the season, but mentally, how he's handling everything, how he
approaches everything, He's not approaching it like a guy that's
facing the firing squad.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
You know.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
He has really been a guy that's been joevial with us.
You know, has pro approached practice the White way. And
I say, and that is the same way for guys
who were You look at Dak and Mike and the
pressure they've had on each other or they have on
themselves and the person that's on them to win. We
got Dak with got Mike McCarthy was in the last
year of his contract. H Dave set the right tone
(08:05):
for this team in training camp. You know, Dak is
you know, is not quarterback and not you know, doesn't
look like a guy that has, you know, the way
of the word on his head. And the same thing
with Mick McCarthy's really at a great attitude.
Speaker 5 (08:16):
Tory Caffy's confident that they can get this done.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
They like what Mike Zimmer's brought to that defense as
a defensive coordinator. Again, Mike McCarthy's not getting enough credit
for what he's done.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
Three straight tow up and five seasons.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
They've won as many games as any coaching NFL outside
of Andy Reid. The only difference is Andy Reid is
won two Super Bowls and the Cowboys have not gotten
it done in the playoffs. And Mike McCarthy needs to
find a way to have the Cowboys play their best
football when it matters most.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
In January, Yeah, Mike Tomlin and Mike McCarthy have both
hoisted trophies. They're obviously very good.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
But I would argue the biggest brands in the league
are Dallas, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, and San Francisco, and so
their games are on TV. So when Mike or Tomlin
or McCarthy have a bad situational moment, everybody's watching the game.
In Jacksonville, it barely makes the Jacksonville News Philadelphia. By
the way, Andy Reid, the Eagles are a high profile program.
(09:09):
Andy had a clock issue. The whole world talks about it. Yes,
is it fair to say McCarthy's a good coach? Some
of it like a Tomlin or Andy Reid and Philly
is every Cowboy game is there's a microscope on it.
Speaker 5 (09:21):
There's no doubt. And Jerry pushing the envelope. I mean,
Jerry's part of it. I mean he's the one who
brought up I can't even think of that.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
The coach in Denver now Sean Payton. You know, he
invoked Sean Payton. He's openly talked about I love Bill Belichick.
Have a great release with Bill Belichick. So people are expectulating, well,
Bill Belichick's gonna be the next coach. You know, he
talked about Dan quinn being a future head coach while
he was Mike McCarthy defensive coordinator.
Speaker 5 (09:47):
So he likes the controversies.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
He likes you guys talking about the Cowboys putting his
players and his coaches under the microscopes because it gets
people talking. I remember twenty sixteen Dak's rookie year. Dak
is thirteen and three great winning streak. Okay, Jason Garrett
is already named Dak the starting quarterback. Jerry Jones would
come after games late in the season.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
I dream of a day at.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Tony Rumbles was gonna lead us to the super Bowl.
Is that the right environment you want for your rookie quarterback?
But it made Sports Center all the time. Yeah, but
that's not what you want your rookie quarterback. Looking over
shoulder hearing this from his owner, Jerry doesn't care you're
talking about him. We're talking they're talking about on you
know Fox. If you're talking about him, if Swartzenter's talk
about everybody's talking about him.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
And that's why the cop that's ten billion dollars. Cop
was just were valued at ten billion.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Dollars, have not won the Super Bowl, have not have
won four playoff games since I showed up in ninety seven.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
They're valued at ten billion dollars.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and Noon Easter not a m Pacific.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
What's it like?
Speaker 1 (10:51):
When's the last time Jerry Jones was really mad? Not disappointed?
Speaker 4 (10:56):
Man? What's it like to cover him? Does he get angry?
Speaker 6 (10:59):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (10:59):
He gets angry for sure, there's no doubt, you know.
And he got angry at me, you know, during the
anthem protests and some things I wrote. But you know,
he can get mad about things, but unlike other owners, and.
Speaker 5 (11:12):
He gets over it, you know.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
He he you know people of some people have written
some of the nationalist things about him. He'll still do
stories with him and still you have a drink with
him and talking to him. He doesn't shut people down
to a certain thing.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
But yeah, he's mad. I mean the Green Bay game,
he was mad. That was embarrassing.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
You know, they were blindsided by what happened in Green
mad They really thought this team was set up to
get to the at least the NFC Championship game. But
the first time Troy Aikman said he counseled his vacation
because he was going to San Francisco, because he knew
the cow was going to get to San Francisco. That's
what the confidence within the building, without the building outside
the building, among people that they really had a chance.
Speaker 5 (11:51):
Second seed.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
You got the seventh seed coming in there with a
quarterback starting his first playoff game, and they get the
doors blown off at home.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Oh no, it was over in about nine minutes.
Speaker 5 (12:01):
It was.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
I don't believe Dak is at his best when he
plays with a lead, when he has weapons. You can
go pri A Mari Cooper post Amari. I don't think
that running back room is close to good enough. Don't
they have to make a move with the deadline or something.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
Clarence, Well, that's just said losing Tony Polam. There's not
a lot of juice in the bank. No, there's not
a lot of juice in the back. But the thing
that the Cowboys are bank, you know, they're running game
could be better because of the change they made an
offensive line.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
You know, Tyler got in first round pick. He's replacing
Tyro Smith. He's been great. He's so far so good.
He's gonna be a better run blocker than Tyro Smith.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
Most of those young guys are when they first get there.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
And so you got Cooper Bby, you know, was the
offensive linement of the year at Kansas State, his third
round pick.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
They moving the guard to center.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
You know they're gonna be stronger of from Cooper Baby
is certainly the biggest strongest center of the Cowboys have
had since Andre Gerard. You know, he's a big. They
call him dirt. You know, he likes to pancake people.
So they're hoping that their blocking will be better for
these running backs to have more success. Zeke is going
to be a better goal line back, and we had
(13:09):
twelve versing touchdowns in twenty twenty two. They struggled near
the goal line running the ball. The issue is between
the twenties, there's no big play threat in the backfield.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Seventeen games, I think they're around ten. Where do you
land ten eleven?
Speaker 5 (13:24):
That's where they are.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
I mean, it's hard to win twelve twelve games three
years in a row, seventy four years in a row.
Speaker 5 (13:29):
They have a tougher schedule.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
You'll find out a lot about this Cowboys team before October.
They played open the season in Cleveland, they played at Pittsburgh,
good deeps. They played San Francisco here, they played Detroit.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
There's a lot of good defensive front clarion the teams.
Speaker 5 (13:43):
You know, you know, so Baltimore's coming to Dallas.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
So you got all these teams all before October thirteen,
including the forty nine ers.
Speaker 5 (13:49):
Which they have not been able to solve the last
three years.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
So we'll find out a lot about this team early
and hopefully, as Jerry says, he wants to be able
to finish, but they have in the past.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Congratulations to you, your beautiful family. Thanks your successes. Uh,
Senior writer, fort Worth Star Telegram. Fort Where's a fun town.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
By the way, it's a great town.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
They tried to fucking town.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
It's a fun thing you work, cowboy hat. I fit
right in there. Oh as a city slugger.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Come on, I liked it. We were sent to a
super Bowl and stayed there. We loved it. Good seeing you.
I appreciate right, Jmack with the news, Turn on the news.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
This is the Herdline News.
Speaker 6 (14:28):
Well, based off everything Clarence said, let's stay with the Cowboys, right,
Let's go to Ceedee Lamb.
Speaker 7 (14:34):
Listen, Ceedee Lamb.
Speaker 6 (14:35):
Dak Prescott, Colin. We could talk about these guys all
day every day. Yesterday, the Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott tried
to downplay the contract issue, but did mention that conversations
are taking place.
Speaker 8 (14:47):
I'm thankful to be where I am right now, and
that's here that as I said, I have somebody that
takes care of that, so I can't I just ask
your question. I'm not putting that much stalled in hoping
it gets done now, hoping it gets done in a
couple of weeks during the season, or whenever it happens.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
I just know conversations are on the right way.
Speaker 8 (15:01):
I enjoy being a cowboy one thousand percent, Joy eleven
in Dallas, joy everything about it. But this is a business.
So conversations are going well. But I'm thankful to be
where I am right now, and that's here.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
He's going to have a market. You know that's true.
Speaker 7 (15:18):
Oh well, really Clarence mentioned the Raiders.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Yeah, Raiders.
Speaker 6 (15:22):
Yeah, can I say broke ass on the air on
our Raiders are poor. They are one of the poorest ownership.
Speaker 4 (15:27):
Building It'll be fine.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
And I don't envision a scenario where they're paying Dak
Prescott sixty million a year.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
Cowboys are in Vegas tomorrow, Maybe they show off Dak
dangle dack in front of the Raiders.
Speaker 6 (15:40):
But the one hack that everybody knows now in the NFL,
you win and build while the quarterback is on the
rookie deal.
Speaker 7 (15:49):
Agreed, So what are the Raiders doing?
Speaker 9 (15:52):
What?
Speaker 6 (15:52):
Why would you pay fifty five sixty million a deck
when that's like the backwards.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
Mark Mark Davis may want to win.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Now you don't have money.
Speaker 6 (16:00):
They can't pay anybody.
Speaker 7 (16:01):
All their money's invested in defense.
Speaker 6 (16:04):
DeVante Adams, nobody to throw them the ball they just
crossed and after the Raiders, That's where it gets bleak
for Dak. Like I'm rooting for the guy. I like him,
But Jerry's playing a dangerous game of poker here, and
I think he might win. Like, I don't think Dak's
gonna have like you really have good giants. Having seen
Dak for no, I figure gonna back up the break.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
I think Dak's gonna have a much bigger market than
you do. I think Seattle, the Raiders. I think the
New York Giants are all offering.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
What what what if? Russell Wilson and Field Sputter.
Speaker 6 (16:36):
They're paying all their money sunk into defense. The Steelers
cannot afford a quarterback at fifty five million years.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
They're gonna move off of safety for Dak.
Speaker 6 (16:44):
You move it off, Meka, Fitzpatrick, t J. Move off
everybody for Dak.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
Safety for Dak.
Speaker 6 (16:49):
Yeah, it's a defensive coach.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
He does.
Speaker 7 (16:51):
He does not break like that.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
You know the owner steps in the GM steps in
and says, Mike, we love you. Get the quarterback right,
I'm gonna move off a great safety for Dak.
Speaker 6 (17:00):
Yes, I think it'll take a little more than moving off,
like make a Fitzpatrick to a Ford Dak in sixty million.
Speaker 7 (17:05):
I mean, listen, it's just insane.
Speaker 6 (17:07):
Anyways, here, let's go to a contract issue that has
not gotten that much attention. That's the Trent Williams holdout.
The NFL's best left tackle, has three years left on
his deal Colin, but none of it's guaranteed. Here's the
latest update from his head coach, Kyle Shanahan.
Speaker 10 (17:25):
We're having a lot of discussions with his agent. You know,
Trent's out here right now, obviously not at camp. I
believe he's in Houston, but I'm not sure. But we're
talking with his agent a lot, and hopefully we can
figure it out. You know, As I've said the whole time,
I am optimistic we will, you know, but of course
the sooner the better.
Speaker 6 (17:43):
I know a lot of people like to take vacation
in August. By the way, hoy Nus can't do that.
They got they got deals to negotiate.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
My staff finally has my back.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
The Steelers are currently projected to have the second most
cap space in the offseason at seventy eight million, which
would give.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
DAK sixty twenty eight eighteen more.
Speaker 7 (18:03):
I love that.
Speaker 6 (18:03):
Let's just put all over your safety. This is like
the kid who saves up all his money, all his money,
and then goes out.
Speaker 7 (18:11):
And buys a car the second he turns eighteen years old,
and you're like, what are you doing? Could have invested
that money? Car depreciating asset.
Speaker 6 (18:16):
You're driving off the line, You're losing money.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
I don't any se quarterbacks is depreciating assets. I have
to see them as accelerating assets.
Speaker 6 (18:28):
Okay, Arthur Smith is the OC that inspires so much confidence.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
If I'm DAK, I can't wait, can't.
Speaker 6 (18:34):
Wait to work with Arthur Smith when they get in
the room with that genius. Anyways, I'm being a little
harsh on that guy. I'm just curious Trent Williams. This
is just him getting extra rests.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
They're They're not a playoff team without Trent Williams. I'll
put it right out there that, come on, not a
playoff team. Brock Perty is not a large guy that
this offensive line is not good.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
It's not great. Without Trent Williams, it's bad.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
So McCaffrey isn't as effective, brought pretty isn't as effective
Trent Williams is I mean McCaffrey Trent Bosa? Is there
a sign him a game where we played.
Speaker 6 (19:15):
If you take one non quarterback off the team, everything
falls apart because Trent Williams. That's actually, you know, that's
a good point.
Speaker 7 (19:21):
They shou probably go from eleven twelve to like, I
don't know where they.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
Mine went Trent Williams is.
Speaker 7 (19:27):
Everything changes with that. But who's that player for the
Chiefs if.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
You can't can't count the quarterback?
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Chris Jones? Chris Jones.
Speaker 6 (19:33):
Yeah, they look sus in the opener last year without
him and then quickly signed him.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (19:39):
Anyways, final story Colin Sunday on Fox, those forty nine
ers will face the Saints. They're head coach Dennis Allen
a bit of a punching bag in these parts.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (19:49):
He had a forgettable moment at a press conference earlier
this week.
Speaker 5 (19:53):
I'm leaving metaphors to you guys.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
Thanks all right, but.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
Uh, there is metaph was that What is a metaphor?
Speaker 5 (20:02):
Like, what's the official definition of metaphor.
Speaker 4 (20:05):
A metaphor is uh, it's just like using using.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
Something as comparison.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
It's like an exappery. Okay, all right, I got it.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
Yeah that's not great.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
But you know, he's not paid to know what metaphor names.
He's paid to win football names.
Speaker 6 (20:22):
The Saints are going to make an appearance in uh headlines,
so I'm gonna save.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
Some of my ammunition.
Speaker 6 (20:28):
But uh, I did see an interesting stat Dennis Allen
as a head coach is one of the worst against
the spread bets you could make. I didn't know that
going in the last season and lost a lot of
money on the Saints.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
Yeah, it's a quarterback coach league. Yeah, they finished fourth.
Speaker 6 (20:42):
Have you looked at the first coach fired odds? I'm
gonna take a flyer if you're in Vagas, mister metaphor,
Dennis Allen.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
Jmack with the news.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by The Herd. Lie.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
I've never used an analogy or metaphor, so you know,
I don't know much about them.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Tomorrow's headlines today next.

talent on it.

Speaker 4 (21:54):
Well, it's my favorite time of the week.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Former newspaper legend Jmack now does television. He knows how
to create headlines. He peers into the future with stunning accuracy.
Let's begin our final segment of the week tomorrows headlines today.
First one, what will be the headline in the NFL
(22:19):
for the team making the biggest leap?
Speaker 4 (22:22):
Jmax? Well, the biggest leap?
Speaker 6 (22:23):
This is not an easy one, like because what quantify leap? Like,
no playoff to playoffs, nobody's picking the Panthers.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
No the wins? Maybe okay, fair enough.
Speaker 6 (22:32):
I went with what I think is a safe pick here.
You don't have the answer, but you're gonna love this one.
The headline will be give Brisee a chance. Jets get hippier,
not hippier. Yeah, maybe Jets are making the leap. I've
got them going from seven wins to about eleven. They
will win the AFC East and end the bills stranglehold
on the division. Colin, I got a lot of notes here.
(22:53):
I'm not gonna go through every single one of them.
They went seven to ten last year with arguably the
worst quarterback room in the league has seen in ye
I mean Tim Boyle Like, they got dudes, no name
guys starting out there. Now you get Aaron Rodgers, even
if he's not the old Aaron Rodgers. He has three
new offensive linemen, very good players. Tyron Smith. I know
you love beating hum as old as you get. This
(23:14):
is a Jets offensive line that is great. Rogers is in.
You got Mike Williams opposite Garrett Wilson, Breest Hall. The
schedules favorable colin the Jets. No team I think will
improve as much as the Jets. Seven wins to eleven,
that's plus four. Lock it up, New York Jets.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
I've already bet the Jets plus the points against the Niners.
Speaker 6 (23:33):
Oh wait, you like the Jets take getting.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
Good, don't? I like the spot and the number.
Speaker 7 (23:39):
And the noise in San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
Also, ooh, tomorrow's headlines today? What's the team that's gonna
take the biggest plunge?
Speaker 7 (23:49):
Now, this is tough.
Speaker 6 (23:50):
A lot of people like to just go with the
Super Bowl loser, who usually falls off a cliff historically.
I'm not doing that.
Speaker 7 (23:56):
But I did find a team I think will struggle.
Speaker 6 (23:59):
The headline will be never Baltimore Ravens playoff hopes Poe
at that pick?
Speaker 7 (24:07):
Yeah, little Edgar Allan Poe.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
There.
Speaker 6 (24:09):
I do see the Ravens pulling back. I made a
statement earlier this week that this is the worst offensive
line Lamar Jackson's ever had in Baltimore, and I got
some Ravens fans angry with me. The problem is then
they go, look look at the offensive line. Guy, it's
not great.
Speaker 7 (24:22):
I know, Derek Henry gets all people are worked up
Derrick Henry.
Speaker 6 (24:25):
Okay, I get that. On the defensive side of the ball.
This Mike McDonald loss is enormous. Colin, I cannot overestimate
how good he was.
Speaker 7 (24:34):
Number they were beaten up on good teams last year.
Speaker 6 (24:38):
Baltimore was excellent. They lose their defensive coordinator Lamar behind
a mid offensive line. I got a producer selling me
on a is John Harbaugh se one false step away
from being on the hot seat. I don't think the
Ravens are awful. Obviously They're not gonna go be terrible
as long as Lamar's healthy, but they will be dropping
off no sniffing the number one seed this year. I
(24:58):
got them as a wildcard team.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
Tomorrow's headlines today first NFL coach to be fired.
Speaker 6 (25:06):
People who have been watching the show this last hour
know where I'm going here.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
The headline will be, oh, when the.
Speaker 6 (25:13):
Saint goes marching out the door, Dennis Allen say goodbye, Colin.
Speaker 7 (25:18):
By the way, have you looked at the schedule early?
Speaker 6 (25:20):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (25:21):
No, it's brutal, So Carolina.
Speaker 6 (25:22):
Their favorite in the opener. After that, they're underdogs in
the next four games, and if they happen to mess
around with Carolina. There's a world where they start zero
to five. Dennis Allen may not make it to Thanksgiving.
This is not a great team. Offensive line. I don't
know if you look like we've been trying. It's like
a theme today the offensive line. There's probably gonna be starting.
The rookie left tackle Carr has been struggling against pressure
(25:44):
his entire career.
Speaker 7 (25:46):
I just don't like what I'm seeing with the Saints.
Speaker 6 (25:48):
I know the defense could be good, but some of
the numbers on Dennis Allen, he's been a head coach.
I think in his five seasons as a head coach,
he's gone under the season win total every single year.
So like Vegas keeps overrest being the Saints because of
the schedule. They got something, they got a lave Kamara,
but this is this is a bad coach.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Tomorrow's headlines today. The headline for receiver Brandon Iyuka the
Niners currently.
Speaker 6 (26:16):
So I feel like the first three days this week
it was like is he.
Speaker 7 (26:19):
Going to Pittsburgh?
Speaker 6 (26:20):
Last week it's been very quiet for for the last
forty eight hours. Wonder what that means. The headline for
brand and Ayuk will be Shanaham and cheese. A Yuk
stays where his bread is buttered. He can't leave.
Speaker 7 (26:33):
That's a great picture. Can't leave San Francisco if this is.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
A great spot for him, I mean a really productive
spot for him.
Speaker 6 (26:39):
He was an All Pro last year and had way
fewer targets than the other receivers who eclipsed him in
some of the stats. And I just think it makes
all the sense in the world. Take a little less money.
It's not the end of the world if you're making
twenty eight.
Speaker 7 (26:52):
Mil per year instead of thirty two.
Speaker 6 (26:54):
Like, just have some perspective. You're on a winner. You're
gonna be playing meaningful January football. You know, there's not
a ton of pressure on him. I wouldn't say in
sanfrian right.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
No, he never.
Speaker 1 (27:03):
You can't double cover him, so they you know, he
gets You have a coach that can scheme him up
and enough stars around him that you can't roll coverage over.
So it's a wonderful place to be. He by the way,
you could have bonus incentives. He could hit all of them.
With the Niners, there's another way to structure it. You know, again,
you don't get double coverage, you hit your bonuses.
Speaker 6 (27:22):
It's basically pick your poison in sanfred Do you want
to slow McCaffrey. Do you want to slow Debo?
Speaker 4 (27:26):
Kittle?
Speaker 6 (27:27):
Getting up there in age but still very dangerous and
of course I use is probably their best weapon. I
think he stays in San Francisco.
Speaker 4 (27:34):
I think so too. Finally, Tomorrow's headlines today.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
The player that thrives the most with their new team.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
I've got my fingers crossed on the ends.
Speaker 6 (27:47):
Oh listen, you've been selling these guys hard. It's almost
like you have stock in this team for the last
five months. The headline will be living beyond your means
Falcons Kirtland passes on. See they know I'm a costco
guy here, b Jehan Robinson. Listen, this is set up,
Colin for Kirk Cousins to do well.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
Oh yeah, this is a really interesting team now with
Simmons and Judah unfold.
Speaker 5 (28:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (28:13):
No, the defense got better this week, clearly, but the
offense it's not like the receiver room's amazing. We like
Drake London, but he we don't even know if he's
a one yet. Kyle Pitts is great and promising, but
he hasn't really delivered. It's the offensive line and the
Bejon Robinson factor that I love.
Speaker 4 (28:26):
They underused him last year. I couldn't figure it out.
Speaker 7 (28:30):
You know, maybe he was the head coach.
Speaker 6 (28:31):
I've been bagging on him for a while, so I'm
gonna not say his name here. But he didn't do
a good job with be There would be games where
he's like not.
Speaker 4 (28:37):
Touching the ball at I didn't get it.
Speaker 6 (28:40):
She doesn't make sense you draft him in the top
ten and under use him. So kirk Cousins I think
fits perfectly in Atlanta. I know he's kind of a
goofy personality. I think the town will embrace him as
long as they do well. Now we've gone over the
schedule a lot. That Pittsburgh opener, you got to win
that because after that it's Eagles Chiefs, and those are
two teams that are Super Bowl Colin. If kirk Cousins
(29:02):
starts zero to three.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
They're not They're they're You're sure.
Speaker 7 (29:05):
They're beating Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
I think the Jets are going to be a tough
out for the Niners. The only noisier team than the
Jets has been San Francisco. I think that game is
going to be low scoring and really tough and it
will start what's a disappointing year.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
For the Niners.
Speaker 6 (29:26):
So you think Falcons and I think.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
Atlanta wins and it starts on ascending. Surprisingly good year
for Atlanta if they start too. I have Atlanta twelve
and five. I have Atlanta vying for the number two
seed with who Detroit Detroit set up the way they're
and the Packers are number one or Rams, Rams and
Packers both make the playoffs. I think Atlanta in that
(29:49):
division has got like guaranteed w's they're just gonna there's offense.
Carolina's offense in New Orleans offense just can't keep up
with it.
Speaker 7 (29:56):
Said this about the Saints last year, and it's not
like the same time.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
I mean you said this about I say.
Speaker 7 (30:01):
Okay, I did not not we but it's how do I.
Speaker 4 (30:03):
Got lured into your web? And I bought into the
Saints was.
Speaker 6 (30:07):
A terrible Rockeen Morris.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Do we know I A lot of coaches get a
second chance and it works. I think it'll work.
Speaker 5 (30:14):
He didn't.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
He took over a Tampa team that just didn't have
enough stuff. It's Atlanta team's got dudes most on offense.
But now they've went and Judaw and Simmons are highly productive,
smart veterans. They will be impact players.
Speaker 6 (30:29):
You don't coming off the injury.
Speaker 7 (30:30):
A little older, but he's I mean, he's a splash guy.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
He's a productive, smart veteran. Dude knows the game. Don't
have to teach him football. He gets it.
Speaker 7 (30:38):
Kirk Cousins in the postseason, I could dig that.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
Yeah, I like when Atlanta wins. You know why Atlanta? Well,
what's funny about Atlanta? There's so much. I think their
ownership's good. I think the personnel's good. Arthur Blank, well,
he is a solid owner.
Speaker 7 (30:53):
He was in love with Belichick and ultimately got.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
Open the rule.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
Well, a lot of people buy into history and legacy.
It's okay to be in love with the guy with
six seven trophies.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
I get that.
Speaker 7 (31:04):
I'm a bit I would have fired Belichick.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
You, on the other hand, No, no, I just not
for that situation.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
I'm not anti Bill next year there are places, but
my take is we have to be fair about the
Belichick worship. New England's roster's awful and Bill ran that
shot for seven years. And I mean, now that Judon's out,
who's their best player?
Speaker 6 (31:25):
Do you think Judon like watch what was going on
in camp and was like, Holy hell, this is a
dumpster fire. I gotta get out of here.
Speaker 5 (31:31):
I don't.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
I mean, I think Judon was saying, if I'm staying
with this mess, I'm getting paid.
Speaker 6 (31:37):
Right.
Speaker 7 (31:37):
So he's going to Atlanta.
Speaker 6 (31:38):
It doesn't look like he's going to get a new deal.
He's just going to play on the deal that he had.
So he just wanted out of the Patriots. I'm telling
you that team is going down hard, and I know
you're blaming Bill Well.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
The way to solve it is get a quarterback or
a bunch of picks for a quarterback. Do what Chicago
did with Carolina and then you got multiple picks. I
think New England's the number one pick. I don't even
think it's arguable. Yeah, I don't even I mean, the
Giants in Carolina are gonna win a half dozen games.
Speaker 4 (32:03):
I think, all.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
Right, we're done. First things, first around the corner. Good week,
We'll see him Monday.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
Be safe.
