Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
We have a Major League Baseball trading deadline, and you
know it's interesting. Jmax, so you're significantly younger than me,
what is your sports relationship with MJ. I can't remember
sitting on a couch watching the Suns and the Bulls
and telling somebody he is so much better than the

(00:44):
second best player in this league. And I did feel
that with Lebron for about ten years, and I felt
it with Jordan. Were you a huge You were a
Knicks fan, so you didn't like him?

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Right? Okay, thank a, thank you for asking me. I
heard this, rent, and I'm just like, what is he talking?
I totally disagree with it, Like I get nostalgia. Okay,
I like to think back, Oh man, remember that summer
Me and my buddies didn't have a job, and we
just it was the most epic summer. Ever, we text
about this sometimes, but that's not the reality. The reality
is now the present, and I feel like this nostalgia

(01:14):
for Jordan just keeps getting better. When the reality was Yeah,
I thought he was really really good, obviously the best
player in the league. But Colin like they were beating
weak teams. Larry was cooked, Magic was cooked, Isaiah Thomas
left early, all the best players had gone, and so
in the nineties I always thought, yeah, my Knicks have
a chance. I did not like Jordan, I respected him,

(01:37):
but I didn't like Larry Bird. I respected him. I
didn't like Tom Brady as a quarterback as a Jets fan,
but I respected him. I just think this love affair
with Jordan is just so strange. We don't see it
in the NFL Joe Montana. Nobody acts like this about
Joe Montana. When the Tom Brady said.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Jordan, we just don't hear it. Jordan was the best
player ever. He was the most dynamic player. He was
the best trest player.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
He was.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
A college star on Lebron didn't play, We didn't follow
at the show.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
And title, and what do you do the next couple
of years. It's a college star. I mean James Worthy
was the best guy on his team. What do you
want the champions hip?

Speaker 1 (02:14):
No, James Worthy acknowledges after four practices, and James was
an NBA prospect he acknowledged by like the fourth practice,
Michael was better than him. And James Worthy's a Hall
of Famer more upside.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
I mean Worthy was the guy on that team. But okay,
I digress, go ahead.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
So the point being is Michael was a collection of
many things. He was the best player. His game was
incredibly memorable. It was pre social media, so he was
a little bit of an enigma. He had some mystery.
He had the coolest shoes, he had the best advertising campaign.
He was six for six in the finals. And again,
when when you bounce around the league to multiple teams,

(02:52):
part of Derek Jeter and Kobe Bryant's appeal Yankees and Lakers,
and that is it part of the lack of appeal
for Kevin Durant.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
He's bounced around the league.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
So like that, there is something to be said about
dealing with the duress and the turbulence of getting beat
up and we all watch the story and then when
you win, we're part of your Jersey, there's a love
affair with Jordan.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
I don't think it's just tradition.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Michael was the coolest, the most clutched, the best, And
I mean, if you go ask Phil Jackson privately about
the two, he's like, guys, it's it's Michael. If you
go ask yourself, look at how many players are critical
of Lebron James' career.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
Michael is held in reverence.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Well, they were like twelve years old when Jordan was dominating.
But one other point, Kong mid nineties, the Dallas Cowboys
dominate the NFL. They become America's team. They were not
America's team in the eighties. What else happened in the
mid nineties Michael Jordan became the greatest ever and the
inner emerged. And I really do believe Colin the Internet,

(04:03):
tying fans everywhere together, in the ability to watch stuff online,
go on these all these websites. I think that contributed
to this nostalgia because essentially everything changed in the mid
nineties with the Internet. And we keep coming back to
the Cowboys. What have they won, by the way, in
the last twenty five years, What if the Bulls won
nothing at all? Yet there's this still this nostalgia for

(04:23):
the Cowboys and the Chicago Bulls because of Jordan and
what Balance did in the midnight.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
But the truth is, there's a bunch of people who
are big in the nineties that aren't big today. The
two that are Michael the greatest player ever and the
Cowboys one of the great dynasties of all time. There's
hundreds of things that were big in the nineties, the
sports teams that aren't big today.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Well, I remember my Yankees stunk in the eighties, and
of course, like you said, Derek Jeter pops up and
guess who starts absolutely dominating the Yankees midnight mid nineties
was Yankees, Bulls and Jordan and the Dallas Cowboys. They
absolutely dominated. And here we are, twenty five years later,
still talking about all three.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Well, maybe they're arguably three of the great teams of
her It's impossible possible.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 5 (05:20):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
But here's the thing.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
We never have enough time to get to everything we
want to get to.

Speaker 6 (05:29):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Yeah, you blubber lit lame and me.

Speaker 5 (05:43):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.

Speaker 6 (05:47):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.

Speaker 5 (06:01):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also Uncensored by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.

Speaker 6 (06:11):
There you go, over Promising. Remember you could see it
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen to over Promised
with Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app Apple podcasts
or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yankees picked up a third baseman, Ryan McMahon, who was
an All Star last year.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
He has ruggled this year.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
He was leading baseball on strikeouts, but the Yankees have
had all sorts of issues with their fielding and he's
considered an above average field or at third base. They
gave up some pitching prospects, Adam Wainwright. Around the corner,
and here's j Mack with the news.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
Turn on the news.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
This is the Herdline News.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
All right, Colin, you know, final hour of the week.
We gotta go to Aaron Rodgers. When in doubt, you
got to lean on ar Rogers. Obviously, his first pass
at camp was a pit intercepted in Pittsburgh. He's also
getting to know his new number one option, DK Metcalf.
Apparently there are sweet mates at trading camp. But Rogers'

(07:13):
latest prediction on Super Bowl contenders tells me he might
be back on ayahuasca. Take a listen.

Speaker 7 (07:20):
I think that you know, there's really only six to
eight they really have a legitimate chance. Sometimes it's ten
to twelve, and there's teams will surprise you. But I
would say on paper were probably one of those ten
to twelve. I think it's coming together, you know, times
like this with these seventeen the or soap practices that
we have here and finding the chemistry and hanging out

(07:40):
with each other in the lunch room and snack in
the different times that we have and you know, growing
together through our practice.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Super Bowl contender Pittsburgh Yes, no, maybe so no.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Again.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Remember quarterbacks over forty have won twelve playoff games, ten
by Brady.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Technically they're tied for fifteenth in Super Bowl odds. I
actually would bet, you know, you could go in Vegas.
You could bet yes, no, will they make the playoffs?
I would be at Pittsburgh, No, for sure.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
How does Yeah, maybe that's I don't know, I mean Denver, Yeah,
I mean I don't disagree with any of those odds.
Nothing there for our radio audience. The Super Bowl odds
are Bills, Ravens, Eagles, Chiefs, Lions. I think Lions aren't
as great, but they're still really good. Commanders, Niners, Packers

(08:39):
is a little high for me. Rams tied for ninth
a little low. Fingals, Bucks, Vikings aren't. I'd put the
Chargers ahead of the Vikings for sure, put the Broncos
ahead of the Vikings, for sure. I like, I talked
to somebody in regards to the Viking yesterday. Love the
offensive roster, but they don't they don't know. Yeah, they

(09:02):
don't know what they have with JJ McCarthy. It was
a lost rookie year. They made him travel with the team.
At one point he got down to one hundred and
seventy five pounds. Like, it was very choppy. They kept
most of it out of the news. The Vikings have
no idea what they had with JJ McCarthy until week one.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
Yeah, just to let the audience know how big of
a story this is. Cowhart actually called me yesterday with
some JJ McCarthy updates. Gave me pause. I'm not gonna lie.
So anyways, let's go to another team in the NFC.
How about this Colm, This is my sleeper in the NFC,
Michael Pennix in the Atlanta Falcons. Pennix will be the starter.
He sat for most of the season before playing at

(09:40):
the tail end with Kirk Cousins was cooked anyway, Penix
has high hopes for the Falcons offense, and so do I.
Here's take a listen.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
We should be the best in the league. You know what,
the guys who got around us. We should be unstoppable.

Speaker 7 (09:51):
So that's our goal.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
We want to be number one in audit categories.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
On the office side of the Boston Well, I will
say a majority of their twent ellen is on the
offensive side of the ball, so they should be good.
I mean, they've got real players. I like both their
backs obviously be Jean Robinson special, Drake London's great. I mean,
Kyle Pitts has never looked up to it, but it
is a more than capable offense, no question.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
It's interesting you mentioned Pitts so again. Once I start
doing these previews, I'm reading everything. I'm trying to watch
actual clips of these guys at the podium. Colin a
little thing I've picked up on Pennix. He keeps hyping
Kyle Pitts, and I'm like, what's going on there? Does
he really like him? I know what it is. Kyle
Pitts was so bad the last couple of years. Everybody's
down on him that Michael Pennix is trying to pump

(10:38):
him up. I think he's trying to elevate Pitts, get
his confident. In fact, they're gonna need him. But Pitts man,
remember he was like going in for a touchdown and
held the football out and it got knocked out of
his hand and it was almost like a touchback. He's
just had so many mental mistakes.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
Yeah, mental mistakes.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
And there are people that say, and I don't know him,
but there are people that say he does and have
a hunger. He doesn't love the game. Tony Gonzalez years
ago was sitting on the couch and I remember asking Tony.
I said, how what percentage of guys loved the game?
And Tony Gonzalez said three percent? Oh, I mean he
was in the locker rooms. He's like, love the game,

(11:15):
think about the game, can't wait for the season as
start us. It's really low And the knock on Kyle
Pitts his doesn't love the game. By the way, there's
no football's hard. Football practice is hard, you know. I
remember as a kid, basketball practice is the best. Baseball's great.
You're taking grab balls, you're in the cage. Football practice

(11:38):
and I was the quarterback. It's no fun then.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
Well I wasn't good.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
But it's like so I like, like you can weed
out players pretty quickly on their desire, and they're and
they're really they're obsessed. The great ones are upset. Jay
Glazer Alwa says that the great football players, there's no
there's no outliers on it. The great ones are all obsessed.
They're Aaron Donald was obsessed with working out. That's why

(12:03):
it was Aaron Donald final story.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Colin is your boy Baker Mayfield. He's had a career
resurgence since landing in Tampa, I mean two years where
he's been fantastic well Tampa GM Jason Light sounds like
he wants Baker around for the long haul, saying I
love Baker, I love everything he's done for us. The
goal for us for Baker is to continue to be
the player that he is. At some point we reach

(12:25):
an extension when the time is right and he continues
to be our QB for a long time. That's the goal, listen,
There's no denying it. Baker in two years in Tampa
has been one of the seven best quarterbacks in the league.
I know Chiefs fans don't want to hear this. In
the last two seasons, Baker has at times largely outplayed
Patrick Mahomes. I saw your boy. Coseell was even saying

(12:48):
Mahomes was one of the worst deep Bowl throwers last
year in the league, Baker one of the better ones.

Speaker 4 (12:52):
So it's just too full forget this.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
They forget how young Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold. Baker's
thirty years old for an NFL quarterback. Your prime is
like twenty because you come into the league at twenty three.
Your prime is like twenty five to thirty two at quarterback.

Speaker 4 (13:12):
Yeah, quarterback, you're.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Not You're not a defensive day seems well, Yeah, you.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
Come into the sport at twenty three, so too like
bow knicks sixty one college starts, He'll probably be in
his prime next year, year three, because bo comes in
with all that work. So your rookie year, then your
second year, and then Patrick Mahomes said, the light goes
on year three, everything slows down.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
So you know, my take is I think he's right
in the middle of his prime.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
It feels like he's older because he's bounced around the
league and he's been such a noteworthy player since he
was a Heisman winner at college. But the truth is
Baker's right in the middle of his prime. So I
would keep it. I had no brothers, A list that
came out two weeks ago, and people, the execs in
the league had him like ten or something. I probably

(14:02):
have him eleven, but I don't have a problem.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
I think it. Sometimes he can.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Get when you hurry him up, like Darnold, like Gino Smith.
Baker can get a little reckless, but he's got when
he has time to throw, he's and they have good
running backs.

Speaker 8 (14:15):
J mc.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
They they have a good run game. He can let
it rip with the best of them.

Speaker 4 (14:19):
Jmack.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
The news, Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping
by the Heard Line News.

Speaker 4 (14:26):
By the way, Nick Saban.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
Was on Fox News, and yes, I know Steve Sarkeshan
was kind of poking fun at me yesterday saying I
asked him if Saban would go to the NFL, and
he said, well, you've already got him there. You've already
got him with arch Manning. But Saban was asked about
coaching in the NFL, and here was his response.

Speaker 8 (14:51):
There's no opportunity that I know of right now that
I would enhance me to go back to coaching.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
Right now.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
That's not definitive, Yes, no, never, absolutely not our definitive.
That is sort of the classic parsing of words. Not
right now, I said before. I'm not hungry right now.
I will eat at some point later. Today Right now
is not then or later. It's well right now. I

(15:23):
think a lot of things right now. Here was Dave
Wantsta earlier, if Nick Saban could possibly return to the NFL.

Speaker 8 (15:35):
He would take the phone call, just because you know,
everybody wants to be wanted. Everybody wants to you know,
And I can speak from Jimmy. I mean, I'm not
getting to the teams. But even when Jimmy was into
Fox several years, okay, when he was done with it
all that, he called me one time in particular and
was offered so much money to run the whole thing,

(15:56):
coach GM everything with the team, and he took the call,
you know, but obviously he didn't have any interest in
doing it. So I think that's where Nick's are at
right now.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
I mean, right now is circumstantial. I mean, Sean McVay
loved coaching, thought about leading for Amazon Prime to do games,
and now he recently said he's committed to coaching for
years to come. So there there is a burnout factor
with the NFL. But Jim Harball it didn't end the
way Jim Harball wanted it to end, and he could

(16:27):
have stayed at Michigan for a long time. He won
that Natty boom. Justin Herbert's available. I'm just saying, if
Arch Manning is available and the Saints draft him, Nick
coach at LSU, you're taking the call. And you know,
I think Gayle Benson still owns a franchise. You know
they would, they would pay top dollar. I'm gonna tell

(16:48):
you something, A Manning. I'm almost rooting for that. I
want to see Arch Manning play for the Saints. Would
that be greater or what? That would be unbelievable? Full circle?
Arch plays there, Peyton to the Colts and Broncos Eli
to the Giants, Arts goes to that. That would be
an unbelievable story. Let's all collectively root for that. Can

(17:12):
That'd be crazy? How good would that be? Think about this?
Just think about this, j Mac. I mean, part of
it's the NFL. It's crazy, but almost all the good
teams are small markets. Philadelphia is not, obviously, but it's
a lot of Green Bay, It's a lot of Kansas City, Baltimore, Buffalo,

(17:33):
it's a lot of that can you imagine if arch
Manning went to the Saints and they have a fifteen
year run like New Orleans had Breeze and Peyton another
small market like in a weird Way's that's why whenever
I hear about the NFL reg the are you kidding me?
It's dominated the big markets until last year. DC was

(17:56):
bad for fifteen years, Atlanta's never wins consistently. The New
York teams are a mess, Chicago's a mess. I mean
the big markets. Houston forever was a joke, Dallas now
is not what they used to be. Philadelphia is one
of the only consistently in La Rams consistently big markets
that are good Philly in the Rams, it is a
league dominated by small markets. Can you imagine the Saints

(18:20):
getting arch Manning? That is unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
I mean, listen, it would be good to get another
good quarterback in the NFC, obviously, but no, I want
them on my jets. I don't want them on the Saints.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
By the way, Before we go to tomorrow's headlines, today,
I do want to play a byte for those that
missed it. Caleb Williams struggled today again at practice. Two
red zone picks Dave Wanstat made a really good point.
Watched that Coast of Bears years ago. He knows the organization. Well,
here is Dave Wanstat on why Caleb could be struggling.

Speaker 8 (18:50):
We would go through training camp and let's say we
were struggling running the football.

Speaker 4 (18:55):
We would say, well, it's just.

Speaker 8 (18:56):
Preseason, it's just a training camp. Those things usually do
show up once you start playing for real. And I
would just say this, Caleb's keep in mind last year
a training camp, he was a guy that had a
tough time getting a snap because he was never up
under center. I mean, this is how primitive the whole

(19:17):
pro passing game under center play action pass was.

Speaker 4 (19:21):
To this kid.

Speaker 8 (19:22):
By that, I mean it's one, two three and the
ball's coming out. Now you've got to get it obviously
to the right person. Or it might be five steps
one two, three, four, five, and everything is tied together,
from the line protection to the receiver routes and a quarterback.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
This is a great point. Everything in Ben Johnson's offense.
This is like Kyle Shanahan is timing, and those coaches
liked their quarterbacks to be under center. Caleb Williams would
prefer to be in the shotgun, So that is part
of the timing issues. A great point by Dave Wanstadt

(20:01):
Tomorrow's headlines today to wrap up a Friday.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
Next be sure to catch live editions of The Herd
weekdays at noon eastern nine am Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (20:24):
Lock Up an Indie Series Championship or will the Pack
hold him off? At Laguna Seca. It all starts Sunday
at three Eastern only on Fox.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
Good stuff for Dave Wanstat today on Caleb Williams.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
So we had a fun week.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
It was big ten media week, so we brought Sark
on and Ryan Day of the Buckeyes on, James Franklin
and Penn State came on, Lincoln Riley came on. So
we went out and took a big swing on the
coaches and a lot of fun. And I've said this before,
the SEC is always going to be powerful because they
have such great passion of great high school football programs

(21:01):
in the South. There's just a lot of good coaches
and there's a lot of money. But it does feel
like between Phil Knight's money coming in from Oregon, Huskies
have money, not Ohio State money, but the Huskies in Seattle.
It's a big market, a lot of tech, Microsoft, Starbucks.
They got money and USC's nil. I can tell you
this is up to eighteen million a year. They also

(21:24):
paid three hundred million for new facilities. So la is
I mean, they're the nil money. Lincoln told me off
the air yesterday. It's it's it's coming porn in now.
So there's just And you got to remember you got
Seattle market in Chicago and New York in LA and Seattle,
those are just bigger markets. The SEC has got much
smaller markets. They've got Atlanta, but it's a lot of

(21:46):
Starksville and Oxford's and Knoxville's. And I've said this before.
You know, in the South, a car dealer, a big
car dealer, that's a lot of money. And by the way,
it's a lot of money relative to the rest of
the country. But the big ten right now, those nil.
And they're going to get Notre Dame eventually to come
to that conference. Those big ten schools are massive. They
got thirty forty fifty thousand students, and that means you

(22:07):
flush a lot of graduates out into the workforce and
a lot of them come back and still go to
the games and give money. So there was always an
understanding that through the churches, the SEC was grease ins
and palms. But once everybody could pay, there's a lot
of money in the Big Ten, especially now that the
big money programs Oregon, Washington and USC those are the

(22:31):
big money programs. They've all moved into the Big Ten.
And they didn't take Oregon State in Washington State, they
didn't take Arizona. They took Seattle in the Huskies, USC UCLA.
That's where the money is in the program and Phil
Knight's money. So all of a sudden, the Big Ten
has been infused with major markets, major finance, and major

(22:52):
nil players. And I think the conferences, I think they're
better now than the SEC at the top Michigan, Natty,
Ohio State and Natty. And I think Penn State's playing
for it and possibly winning it. I just want to
see how good arch Manning is, all right, the former
newspaper guy. We call it Tomorrow's headlines today, And because

(23:12):
of all the Big ten media in the college football talk,
that's going to be our theme today from JAMAX. So
let's start it off Tomorrow's Headlines Today. How about the
headline for No Tre Dame the Fighting Irish j Mack.

Speaker 4 (23:28):
This season we have.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
Sec media, a big ten media. We got we got
to get Freeman on the show. I mean there's a
guy we thought was ticketed for Chicago. I like Notre
Dame the headline for the Fighting Irish. This season will
be all washed up no Irish spring back and scrub
the past. Yes, I like Notre Dame. Back to the playoff, Colin.

(23:50):
There's a lot to like about this team. I mean,
starting with Jeremiah Love. Me. I like stuff Jeremiah Love.
They're talking about him being in the same category for
the draft next year. Is Bijon Robinson and Ashton Gent
like a top fifteen guy. Jeremiah Love is a superstar
waiting to happen. I mean the Irish return, I think
six starters on offense. Obviously your boy, as you see
on the screen there, Riley Leonard has gone. But they're

(24:13):
going to be very, very good. Obviously the schedule, you know,
it's front loaded, Colin, I wrote it down here. They
got to travel to Miami and face Carson Beck. That's
not a layup.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
Got to win you sure, yeah's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
They got they host Texas A and M. Hopefully he'll
win there. At Arkansas is a tricky one going to
the SEC country and then of course the game you
tried to squash, Notre Dame plays USC. So I like
this team a lot, six starters back on defense. I
have Notre Dame back in the playoff. I don't know
if you agree with me or not.

Speaker 1 (24:44):
Well, I think Marcus Freeman is the best recruiter they
have had there since Lou Holtz in his prime. I
think he is a I think Marcus Freeman Brian Kelly.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
I think he's a better recruiter.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
I think he's got more energy, more youth, He's very relatable.
I think he's the best recruiter they've had since Lou
Holtz was a great recruiter. I mean he was a
great motivational speaker. Marcus Freeman can flat out recruit and
I've been told that my coaches on the trail, dude
can flat out connect with kids. So Notre Dame's in
a good space. Tomorrow's headlines today, I love the buck Eyes.

Speaker 4 (25:17):
What's the headline?

Speaker 3 (25:18):
Yeah, it is a tough one because obviously, coming off
the National championship, they have this huge season opener against
Texas here on Fox. I like Ohio State, but the
headline for the buck Eyes this season will be the
Franklin minted gritty nitny investment lowers value of the buck
as in Buckeyes. I think Ohio State is just a

(25:40):
smidge worse than Penn State in the Big Ten column.
And listen, there's a lot to like obviously about the
buck Eyes. I think they do take care of Archbanding
and Texas and the opener at home. They have, I
think the best player in the country in Smith. I
like Downs a lot. I just it's really difficult to
repeat everybody's gunning for you. Penn State's just a little
better than Ohio State. So I have the Buckeyes losing

(26:02):
in the National Championship to Penn State in an all
Big Ten natty. Now that's a little bit out there.
I'm sure you'll disagree. I do like the Buckeyes a lot.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
By the way, that will cement my take that the
Big ten's better than the SEC if you get Penn
State and Ohio State in the Natty.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
Yeah, I mean, I just don't see the SEC team
that really terrifies me. I like Georgia's schedule, but a
lot of questions about Stockton the quarterback, and I don't
see it with Alabama this year. So I've got Ohio's
Tate going to the National champions.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
Tomorrow's headlines today, Okay, we will be the season's college
football playoff. I'm interested dark horse like last year was
the Indiana Hoo's yours?

Speaker 4 (26:40):
Who's that's right?

Speaker 3 (26:41):
So last maybe last month or two months ago. Remember
we went on a prediction and you went with Illinois.
I believe in the Big ten. I am going deep
into the Big twelve. The headline for my sleeper in
college football call Tech Support. Brit Raiders packed their way
into the college football Playoff. I've got Texas Tech getting

(27:03):
to the playoff. They're gonna be plucky Colin. If you
follow this story, they are like low key, as the
kids say, one of the crazier stories in college football.
This offseason. They hit the portal harder than anybody. I
just looked at their depth. Start eleven new starters, mostly
thanks to the portal, that are gonna come to Texas Tech.
And if you look at the schedule, it ain't that hard.

(27:24):
They do have to go to Utah and they do
have to play at Arizona State. Arizona State's gonna be
very good again. But I think this Texas Tech team,
you spend, you gotta spend money to make money. I
think they're going to the playoff because they've got such
good support coming from the transfer portal. It's gonna It's
an interesting situation that's brewing because we've seen in the
last couple of years, if you hit the portal hard

(27:45):
in the right way, you can make that leap. Remember
Washington a couple of years ago, Indiana last year. Like,
you can make moves. And I think Texas Tech is
on the up and up.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
Yeah, you gotta be careful though. It's got a fine line.
You don't want thirty new players. Tomorrow's headlines today, Ah,
the headline for the Heisman Trophy winner, you're gonna you're
gonna beat everybody to the punch on that.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Yeah, well, you know, you look at the odds and
you know, like, Okay, I don't know about this guy.
A lot of questions. You seem bullish on a certain
arch manning at Texas. I say, no, no way. The
headline for the Heisman Trophy will be the Handsman Trophy.
Buckeye doesn't bobble the bronze. It's obviously got to be
Jeremiah Smith. I mean, Colin that kid is as a
true freshman last year.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Oh, he was unstoppable.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
In that playoff run they just throw up and he
was dominant. I mean, go watch that Oregon Tate game
in the Rose Bowl. He was unguardable. The guy is
super special.

Speaker 2 (28:40):
Now.

Speaker 3 (28:40):
I know we've seen this with Marvin Harrison Junior and
other wide receivers. He's different. He's got the speed, the power,
the work ethic. I think Jeremismith best player in the country.
I've got Ohio State's star receiver winning. Look at that speed,
I've got him winning the Heisman. I don't know who
else you could go with. I don't think Arch is
a good bed by.

Speaker 4 (28:58):
The way, Yeah I would.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
I think that's a pretty good If I had to guess,
I'd put him one.

Speaker 4 (29:06):
Drew Aller and that's Penn State backfield.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
Drew Aller' is gonna put up big numbers at Penn
State and he's gonna have big, high profile games too.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
Their running backs are are very good and they probably
will be blowing people out. So I don't know if
Aler's going to be throwing a lot in the fourth
quarter and have the numbers, Jeremiah Smith's gonna be you
first quarter. Second there they're just feeding him. So Aler's
probably not the worst bet as second, but I like
Smith to win it.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
Yeah, they have two and like Ohio State last year,
the Nittany Lions have two NFL running backs, Singleton and
the other kid. All right, let's a little pivot to
pro football tomorrow's headlines. Today we got to give j
mack one what is your headline for the beliegueer New
York jest.

Speaker 3 (29:48):
So yesterday they come to me, Hey, Justin Fields tow
broken toe, This is bad news. What if he's out
seven weeks? And then we see video of him today
kind of jogging, not doing all the drills, but it
sounds like he gonna be okay. That being said, the
headline for my Jets this season will be toe jammed.
Jets limp into season needing arch support that listen, I'm

(30:14):
gonna try to speak it into existence because I still
remember I'm such a loser when it comes to like
football and watching Colin. I will never forget that Jets
Rams game a few years back that cost the Jets
Trevor Lawrence a meaningless win. I was all excited. I mean,
can you imagine Trevor Lawrence in the Big Apple. It
should have happened and they won that stupid meaningless game

(30:35):
had to settle for Zach Wilson. The rest is history.
You can't let that happen with arch Manning. Okay, if
Justin Fields is not feeling great, sit out, my friend.
We got Tyrod Taylor, and I know nobody wants to tank,
but Aaron Glenn. Hey, you want a quick rise to
the top of coaching, get arch Manning next year as
your quarterback. And I know there's a lot of questions
about him, Jay, he's had two starts. How can you

(30:57):
feel so good? Well, I don't know. He's six four
two fifteen, run like the wind, and he's related to
Peyton and Eli.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
Yeah, he didn't run like arch or Peyton. He runs
like Archie Manning who played for the Saints. Archie Manning
was a great athlete. You know, Peyton and Eli were
classic pocket quarterbacks because you know, their dad probably said,
don't run around and get hurt like me, sitt in
the pocket and throw. And they also had better teams
that Archie Manning. The Saints were horrible. But arch Manning

(31:24):
is very modern. He is a modern quarterback. He can
tuck it and run. He's ripped. There's been follow his Instagram.
I've seen many a shot. Dude, he's ripped. Sark told
us this week, I said, what's his best trait? He said,
unbelievable work ethic. You know, he's smart, and it goes
back to he's not going to get two speeding tickets

(31:44):
his first week with his team. Like he's just he's
got self awareness. He's just a smart guy.

Speaker 3 (31:49):
And you know, listen, I liked Carson Beck at Georgia,
but he got so much nil money. There were reports
that this guy had like two Liamborghinis, right, and he's
pictured with them. He's got the celebrity girlfriend and all this,
and you just felt like he was really enjoying being famous.
I don't get that vibe at all from march Manning.
I mean he feels kind of grounded. I don't know
him personally, never met him, but when you see him

(32:11):
in interviews, he just looks very humble, like he's gotten
the media training. He kind of gets it.

Speaker 4 (32:16):
Colin, Oh, he didn't kind of get it. He gets it.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
I mean, I know the Manning family well enough, classy, smart, thoughtful,
understand I mean they could be they have so much power.
But I've got to tell you something. Arch Manning to
the Saints. Would that be unbelievable. The more I think
about that, I'm like, oh, that's perfect for the NFL.
That is literally come full circle and have Archie and

(32:43):
arch play for the Saint and that would be another
small market flourishing in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
At that point, do you fire the coach they just
hired or do you just you know, what do you?
What do you do? Like? I mean, arch Manning to
the State, like that team is not very good. They're
like a five wood there's not a lot of skill
position guys out of.

Speaker 1 (33:00):
My own Yeah, I don't know if you fire the
coach Dennis Allen didn't work more of a coordinator.

Speaker 4 (33:05):
I don't know if you do that.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
Ye right, work is putting it mildly, but okay, it's
it's we are you know, we're we're. I will say
that the the right teams in college football right now
are good Texas. If you told me what teams need
to be good for the sport to be popular. I
would pick literally Texas, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan in

(33:28):
the northeast Penn State. I think USC and Oregon out
west carry a number.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
Georgia.

Speaker 1 (33:33):
Georgia helps absolutely, but I'm telling you Notre Dame in
Texas are bigger overall brands. They carry a rating. Notre
Dame in Texas are probably one too. Then Ohio State, Michigan.
Next up NASCAR Craft and Truck Series qualifying from Lucas
Oil Indianapolis A Raceway. Thank you so much for watching us.

(33:55):
Good baseball. This weekend camps are open in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (33:58):
We'll see it.
