Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome back to the Richard Sherman Podcast. And what a
win for the Seattle Seahawks. They just looked dominant on
both sides of the football and in special teams they
got a turnover. But the story of this game, Sam
darneld with it was sixteen to sixteen at the half.
Four touchdowns. Just looked effective, efficient, I mean like a

(00:25):
machine out there. And his connection with Jackson Smith and
Jigba continues to grow. They just look like they've played
together for ten years at this point, like their minds
are on a string. Sam Darnold dropped some dimes in
this game to Jackson Smith and Jigba, who made incredible catches,
and it didn't matter matter if Jackson was open, if

(00:47):
it was a small window, if it was a tight window.
They connected and there probably could have been one more connection,
but he went to Arroyo for the touchdown, but Jackson
Smith and Jagbo was wide open on the other side.
One beat Amos on a double move and could have
easily been another touchdown for him. He goes down. He
ties the franchise record with four straight one hundred yard games,

(01:11):
and he's making it look easy. He had one hundred
yards at the half. He ended with eight catches for
one to twenty nine. But Tory Horton, the rookie the
steal of the draft, four catches for forty eight yards
and two big touchdowns. Cody White also had a sixty
yard touchdown on his only reception of the game. Eric Royo,
like I said before half, the touchdown, AJ Barner got

(01:33):
in an end zone or with a touch pushty deal.
He's their touch push guys. This team just looks like
they're having a lot of fun offensively. When they were
top five in the league coming into this game. This
will do nothing but help their case. The defense, though,
I mean they're getting it. They're getting it from every side.

(01:54):
The secondary's playing good, and they're playing good because they're
getting healthier. Devin Withers bowing his bat. Tarik Wooland is
playing good football. The D line is getting contributions from everywhere.
DeMarcus Lawrence continues to be dominant. Leonard Williams continues to
earn his money. They're they're they're without uh big Jaron Reed,
but when he comes back, it's gonna continue to be

(02:15):
what it what it is. Byron Murphy, the the first
round pick is showing again in his second year why
they picked him so early in the draft. He gets
the sack in this game, and you love to see
if Derek Cole was dominated both in a run in
the past game. Ernest Jones went down in this game
and I haven't been I'm not sure what the injury was,

(02:35):
but hopefully he returns pretty quickly. But he just keeps
seeing this this team evolve and in regardless of the situation,
I think this is uh. Mike McDonald is now eleven
and one on the road, if I'm not mistaken, staking
in road games in his coaching career, and that's just
that's just incredible. He's eleven and one. They're they're finding

(02:58):
ways to win again. There were number two in my
power rankings. They're only gonna move up with the Indianapolis
coachs losing in the way they did in the fashion
they did with six turnovers, So I'm looking forward to
them moving up. But I'm happy the rest of the
world got to see what the Seattle Seahawks fans have
known majority of this season, that this team is special,

(03:21):
that they're getting it done and they can compete with
anyone in the National Football League. And I believe that.
And they can play any kind of game. They can
play a shootout type game, they can play a low
scoring game against the dominant defense like they did against
the Houston Texans. They can slug it out with anybody.
And I don't think any team in the NFC wants

(03:43):
to see Seattle on their schedule home arway in January.
And the reason is because right now, statistically they're better
on the road than at home. So if they end
up having to go on the road, I don't think
they mind. I don't think they mind being Warriors, and
you don't. You don't say that about many teams that,
hey man, they probably be okay if they had to

(04:05):
go on the road in the playoffs way, Mike me
Die Donald has these boys playing, send them on a road.
I mean, they take this five seed, they take the
sixth seed, Send us on the road, because they'd feel
good about it. They're on the road and potential could
potentially be going to Green Bay, Wisconsin. They'd feel pretty
good about it. If they had to go to Detroit,

(04:27):
they feel pretty good about it. I'm sorry Detroit that
I was a rough loss you guys had against the
Minnesota Vikings today. And this is this Seattle Seahawks team
is better than that Minnesota Vikings team, no question about that.
But if you said they had to go to any
of those teams, if they had to go to Tampa
to play the Buccaneers who have been playing really well
and the shootout type of game they had, they'd feel

(04:48):
good about it. And I'm sure Tampa would say they
feel good about it. If they have to go to
Philadelphia to play the Philadelphia Eagles, et cetera, et cetera,
it'd be a good game. So I feel really good
about the Seattle Seahawks team. Like I said, I had
to win in the NFC wes UH before the season started,
I feel even better about it. There were a lot
of people questioning this offensive line. They continue to jail

(05:10):
and and mold Gray Zabel has not allowed a sack
this season, has the sixth lowest QB pressure percentage allowed
among offensive linemen. That's per Next Gen Stats. I know
people don't like PFF, but that's next Gen stats and
he has been everything they hoped he would be. Charles

(05:32):
cross a blucas this offensive line now could could could
they get a little better? Will they be active during
the trade deadline. Probably, you know, the the right guard
spot is the spot that that is kind of the
question mark a lot of these games. And and that's
no offense, but that's just where it's been. And if

(05:52):
they if they feel good about it, they'll probably you know, say, hey,
these last couple of games, they feel good that the
offense has performed well, maybe they feel good and moving forward,
maybe they wanted to secure some depth moving forward. But
there aren't a lot of weaknesses to this Seattle Seahawks team,
especially defensively. They're amongst the league leaders and rush yards
uh and in points per game uh and and and

(06:17):
rush yards per game top ten, and total defense and
a lot of the rushing stats that this d line
takes Friday in there amongst the league leaders. You're not
coming in here and running the football on the Seattle
Seahawks a little bit of a question mark. An issue
is the Seahawks running game between K nine and Sharbernay

(06:39):
uh they weren't even able to muster one hundred yards
in a game that they were dominant, and they were
up early in this game and up throughout the game.
So you would think, hey, at that time, you lean
on the run game, you you get some some some
some some easy yards, but they weren't able to do that.
They had to continue to pass the ball, and that's

(07:00):
the one thing that I think they're gonna have to
find some answers to. They're gonna have to work on
because they they averaged under four yards to carry, didn't
have one hundred yards rushing total in this game, and
that's that's been the issue the entire season. So that's
one of the only things that you if you're gonna nitpick,
that's something you can nitpick about. Sharbonne had eight carries

(07:23):
for twenty four twenty five yards. Kenneth Walker had eleven
carries for forty two yards. So you just need more
out of the running game from those two explosive backs.
But that's just nitpicking. This is a really good Seattle
Seahawks team that's that's been playing well. Next week they

(07:56):
have the Arizona Cardinals, uh and a game that I
know they'll feel good about. Division games are always tough,
but the way the Seattle Seahawks are playing, I think
they can play with anybody in this league and they
should feel good about just about every other game they
have during this season. Then they got the Rams, the Titans,

(08:18):
the Vikings. We talked about the Rams again late in
the season. But a lot of these are winnable games,
and a lot of these games they should be favored in.
So I had him at it eleven and six, but
it might be better than that the way they're playing.
The Commanders struggled in this game both sides of the football,
and Jade and Daniel, the superstar quarterback the Young Sensation,

(08:42):
went down with an apparent elbow injury. Looked pretty serious
on the field. They braced them up and he walked
off the field. A lot of people questioned him why
he was still in the game up thirty one, I
mean down thirty one. Some people are competitors, and he
was still in there, and I'm sure he didn't want

(09:03):
to come out. It's unfortunate. I know there's always room
to criticize coaches, but you know at that point you're
letting a guy compete and show what he can do.
They were in position to score. I'm sure you came
out after that drive. You can't predict when injuries happen.
It's just an unfortunate situation. So you wish nothing but
the best for him and quick healing and be for

(09:26):
him and his commander's team that are three and six
and struggling this season. They got the Lions next in
a game that the Lions have to win. They'll be
It looks like they'll be with Marcus Mariota for the
foreseeable future, and we'll see how that goes for him.
But what a win for the Seattle Seahawks. H I
love it when they win. It's just a great day

(09:48):
and it's great to celebrate it with you guys on
a Richard Sherman podcast. And another one of my teams
that won, the San Francisco forty nine Ers, And I
know Seahawks fans don't like when I was switching. Don't
like when I switched, Well, I'm sorry. If you don't
like it, you can turn it off now. And Niner fans,
what a game. The San Francisco forty nine Ers go

(10:08):
to MetLife Stadium and get a dub against the New
York Giants, And what a game for mac Jones started
the game off fourteen and fourteen. His first incompletion didn't
come until the second half. He did have a fumble
in the game, but it was one of those plays
that I feel like is on the offensive line that's
on Colton mckivitz gets beat clean by Brian Burns and

(10:30):
he hits Mac Jones as he's releasing the football as
a fumble. Great play by him, great play byb dual
Carter to catch the football ended up being a fumble.
But outside of that, he played a really efficient game.
Nineteen to twenty four, two thirty five, two touchdowns. Christian
McCaffrey goes over one hundred yards on the ground, gets

(10:50):
a touchdown, and also has a touchdown through the air
with five catches for sixty seven yards sixteen games down
with the rushing and receiving touchdown, that's the most all time.
Congrats to Christian, what a game from him. But the
thing I want to talk about from this game was
the defense. And I know, I know, in the end

(11:12):
it looks like they gave up a little bit of points.
They give up twenty four points. But in one of
those plays I got I gotta look and see what
happened with Demo because I couldn't tell if it was quarters,
but you know, Stout up and Stout went to the flat,
so could it have been three? It just looked like
it might have just been a brain part of sorts.
But but I mean, Brian Robinson looked really good in

(11:35):
this game. He carried he only carried the ball five times,
but at fifty three yards in a touchdown. He was
running with with with passion, and he was running with intent.
It looked like he was trying to prove a point
and say speak to his value and just speak to
him getting more opportunities. It's tough, you know, when you've
when you've been a starter and you got to be
a backup and and you got to keep trying to

(11:57):
trying to battle and fight for for a chance. When
you're behind potential Hall of Fame running back, it's it's
not a place many running backs want to be. But
great game for him. Jeorge Kittle returns four catches for
thirty two yards. Juwan h third and Juwan had a
great touchdown catch on what we used to call a
Colorado route but a pivot route. Great route, great touchdown
from him. On the defensive side, Sam Okuanu has a sack.

(12:21):
Colin Farrell has a sack in his first game back
with the Niners. That was that was a could have
been a sack force fumble, but a great play from him.
The forty nine Ers defense did did a did a
great job, especially early on. They they gave up a
first drive touchdown, but after that they gave up one, two, three, four,
uh five straight three or four or five and out?

(12:48):
Uh And now that was phenomenal for this team. Even
after the force fumble and their own territory were able
to get a stop and force a missfield goal from
the Giants. You got to give him credit. Young guys
playing Obviously, they gave up some points at the end,
got some things they want to clean up, but they're
still working in Colin Ferrell, who you know, didn't spend

(13:08):
a lot of time away so so picked up this
game pretty fast. I'm they're excited about Keon White and
what he can bring to this to this depleted San
Francisco forty nine Ers pass rushing defensive line. They may
have lost Milkao Williams for for a little while. I'm
not sure about the severity of that injury, but it
is still a big win. San Francisco forty nine Ers,

(13:30):
for all the turmoil, all the ups and downs of
the season, are still six and three, still learning with
this young defense still figuring things out, Still are are
are active during before the trade deadline, which it ends Tuesday.
There's a ton of rumors out there. We'll see which
ones are true and which ones aren't. With the Cincinnati

(13:51):
Bangals losing again, are they more opt to deal Trey Hendrickson? Maybe?
Are there other names out there that that may be
available potentially? We we will see. Uh that you can
never go wrong trusting trusting Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch
and what they've done. Their track record is what it is.

(14:12):
The way they've battled h throughout this season, the way
the team has fallen throughout this season, you got to
give them a ton of credit, uh, for what they've
been able to accomplish. You look online, you wouldn't think
the San Francisco forty nine ers are six and three
and and really battling for the division lead and in
a really, really tough NFC West. But that's where they are,

(14:33):
and that's that's the truth of the situation. They're competitive,
they're they're doing a great job. They got a tough
division game next week against the Rams at home. That
the mc veay Shanahan game is always a tough game. Obviously,
the Niners were able to pull it off in Levi's
South with with a very banged up receiving corps, banged

(14:55):
up quarterback, et cetera, et cetera. It looks like brock
Perty will be making a return that game. At least
that's what the the t leaves say, and you would
believe if he has a full week of practice under
his belt and they feel great about the soreness that
he experiences after he'll get his first start and quite
a while and what a month and a half. So

(15:16):
we'll see how that goes. You know, I'm sure there
will be a little bit of rust there, but they'll
be excited to have their their their their starter back.
I think there may be a chance for them to
get Bryce Huff back. We'll we'll see. Uh, there's no
guarantees in this game. They put gross matos on I R.
So I'm sure they'll be looking to fill his spot.
But overall this has been This was a good game

(15:39):
for the forty nine ers, and I expect him to
continue to continue to battle, to continue to play well
if they if they can pull off this this Rams game,
they can pull off a win against the Rams and
move to seven and three. I would I would assume
they're in a driver's seat of the NFC West. But
that's a big if that the Rams are playing well.
They're playing well today, They're they're playing against the Saints

(16:00):
team that's been struggling today and you know you expect
them to win that game. So, uh, it's gonna be
a tough matchup. That's gonna be maybe the game of
the week next week. I got to see the full schedule,
but it's gonna be up there. That's gonna be a
tough game for both teams, and I look forward to
seeing it. Who. Today's show is brought to you by

move on to Indianapolis, who have been the darlings of

(17:47):
the league, who have been the greatest story of the
league about you know, perseverance and you know comeback player
of the Year and the way Daniel Jones has been
playing and Jonathan Taylor has been toting the rock and
scoring touchdowns in abundance. But this was a comeback to

(18:08):
Earth moment a pumpkin game, as as Ryan Fitzpatrick will
put it for the Colts and for Daniel Jones. They
turned the ball over six times against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Pittsburgh Steelers defense that's been, I mean to put
it lightly struggling. I think they were thirty second in
pass defense, thirtieth and total defense, et cetera. Exce but

(18:31):
basically near the bottom of the league in a lot
of categories, but still a very talented defense, especially in
the back end up front, and in a defense that
takes a lot of pride, and you saw that this week. TJ.
Watt had a heck of a game, forcing the fumble
and recovering it. Joey Porter got him an interception. The

(18:52):
back end played well. They intercepted Daniel Jones three times,
forced two fumbles. He turned the ball over five times
by hisself. Josh Down also had a fumble. So you
got to give Pittsburgh a lot of credit. They battled
and they dominated this game from start to finish. Daniel
Jones through for three forty two, but he in a touchdown,
but he threw the three interceptions. The Steelers did a

(19:17):
great job of keeping Jonathan Taylor in check, he only
had fourteen carries for forty five yards. That's that's a
lot of their offense. So people wonder why Daniel Jones
is able to have this kind of success. It's because
a great, impotent run game opens up the passing game
because linebackers and safeties and everybody have to commit to

(19:39):
stopping that and if they do, it gives you more
space and opportunity in the back end. And I think
that's what's been helping like Booie Daniel Jones, which is
which is great because it happens to a lot of
great quarterbacks you don't really know, you notice their weaknesses
because they're there. They have a great run game that
that masks them. But this game, they stopped Jonathan Taylor

(20:04):
and they said, hey, we're gonna make Daniel Jones beat us,
and he wasn't able to. They take advantage of that
in a big way, beating the coach twenty to twenty seven,
and the game wasn't as close as the ending score looks.
Aaron Rodgers played an efficient game, or a really solid
game by his standards, twenty five and thirty five, two

(20:26):
to three in a touchdown. Jalen Warren gets two touchdowns
but only has thirty one yards in the game. But
the story of the game was the Steelers defense. Five sacks,
three forced fumbles, three interceptions. They were plus five and
a turnover differential in this game alone against the coach

(20:47):
team that was plus eight leading the league coming into
this game. And turnover differential that obviously changed tremendously, but
that's a one in formula. Obviously that's not sustainable. But
getting that many turnovers, getting that kind of confidence, uh
in this team, five sacks, TJ. Watt playing the way
he did. This is the Steelers defense. They were expecting

(21:10):
this offseason when they signed all these guys, when they
paid TJ. Watt, when they when they paid Cam Hayward
a little bit more. These are the kind of performances
they were expecting and this is what they got. The
Coats have a game next week against Atlanta Falcons that
looks like a winnaball games. The Falcons just lost to
the New England Patriots. Who who may be the class

(21:30):
at AFC right now? You really just don't know who
the who the best team in the AFC is right
now because it changes every week and every just about
every top AFC team can make an argument. The Patriots
can make an argument, the Coats can make an argument.
Buffalo can make an argument. The Chiefs can make an argument.
But the Colts next game is the Falcons. That's a
winnable game for them. Uh. The Steelers go go and

(21:52):
play the Chargers next week. A Chargers team that potentially
just lost Joe All. They're they're, you know, all world
left tackle for a substantial amount of time. We'll see
if they can, if they can overcome that injury. They're
already losing Rashaun Slater for the season during training camp.
So you hope that they continue to battle, but you

(22:15):
hope it's not too serious for Joe All in all reality,
another game in the NFC West. The LA Rams take
on the New Orleans Saints and Matthew Stafford has his way.
He's having an MVP type season. He's got twenty one
touchdowns on the season now only two interceptions. Kyron Williams
ran the ball twenty five times for one hundred and
fourteen yards and a touchdown. Coop in the Coula continues

(22:40):
his dominant season seven catches for ninety five yards and
a touchdown. Davonte gets involved with two touchdowns on five
receptions for sixty yards. They had thirty first downs in
this game, and the Rams held the ball for forty
three minutes of a sixty minute ball game. Three minutes.

(23:01):
That's insane, but kudos to them. Obviously. The Saints are
struggling team. Tyler Shaw had was fifteen to twenty four
for one hundred and seventy six yards touchdown interception, his
first career start. Solid numbers versus a really really good
La Rams team. They're now six and two in a

(23:21):
stacked NFC West. The Rams are six and two, the
Niners are six and three. The Seahawks are six and
two with a huge win on Sunday night. I really
can't call who's gonna win this, and anybody who says
they can't, you can't. The Rams have already lost to
the to the Niners and have to play them again,
and obviously they got to play the Seahals at some point.

(23:43):
But it's gonna be a fun division to watch. I
expect all three of these teams to make the playoffs
and make some noise. But give a lot of credit
to Matthew Stafford in the way he's playing elevating this team.
They held the Saints to ten points, which again isn't
saying enough to say are one win team that are
likely gonna be picking at the top of the draft.

(24:04):
But still, Matthew Stafford has been effective and efficient and
continues to elevate at what is he now, thirty nine
thirty nine years of age. And I think that's something
to be to be really applauded and appreciated because there's

(24:24):
a reason these older quarterbacks Stafford, Flacco, Aaron Rodgers can
play as long as they have because they were built
at it. They were built and their foundational understanding of
the game was built at a time you had to
have the answers as a quarterback. You had to have

(24:45):
the answers. No, you didn't have to worry about you
didn't have to worry about a coordinator script and a
play or scheming a play open for you. You have
to read it, and we read it and execute the play.
You have to read it and go through your progression.
Bang bang bank. Now, I think a lot of these

(25:07):
kids are handicapped, and by kids, I mean quarterbacks coming
out of college. I think they're handicapped. They never learn
how to read a defense. They never learn how to
how to foundationally like create a play and create a
progression and go through it and read it. They they
are depending on the coordinator to say, hey, it's mans side,
is his zone side, These are your training wheels. We'll
send your motion so that you get an indicator, and

(25:30):
then you go to the side that your indicator. You
see it, man, you go to the mand side. If
you see his zone, you go to the zone side.
And a lot of these guys are are are are
leaning on their their legs and broken plays and backyard football.
But I think there will always be a place for
quarterbacks who understand how to read defenses and go through

(25:52):
progressions at a fundamental level. That's why these guys can
still play quarterback. That's why you could probably call some
of the other older guys to come back and they
would still be executing at a high level because that's
the way they were built. So congratulations of Matthew Safford.
It seems like if he continues this, his name will
be in an MVP conversation. And rightfully so, this RAMS
team is playing well. He's playing well. Of course, we

(26:14):
got to see out the season progresses, but It's looking
really good for the Rams. They're playing great defensively, They're
strong team. The NFC West looks like the strongest division
in football and can't say much more than that. Next week,
the La Rams have another division battle against the San
Francisco forty nine Ers. The Shanahan McVeigh matchup goes to

(26:37):
San Francisco to Levi's the real Levi. This tome not
Levi South. A tough battle and it looks like brock
Party again is gonna return for that game. So it's
gonna be a hugest. That's gonna be a huge moment
for both of these things because if the Niners win,
they hold the tiebreaker over the Rams. If the Rams win,
they create a barrier of separation between them and the

(26:58):
San Francisco forty nine Ers. So huge divisional matchup that
has some real, real big implications. Another big time game
that happened today was the Kansas City Chiefs versus the
Buffalo Bills, and this game happened as many of the
regular season games have happened between these two teams. The
Buffalo Bills controlled the game from start to finish. They

(27:20):
held Patrick Mahomes to his worst completion percentage of his career.
He was fifteen of thirty four two hundred and fifty
yards in an interception, no touchdowns in the game through
the year, Rushi Rice had four receptions for eighty yards
in a rushing touchdown. The Chiefs defense had three sacks,

(27:41):
but Josh Allen was in total command this game. He
was really efficient. I think he set the franchise record
in Buffalo today for completion percentage. He was twenty three
of twenty six for two to seventy three and a touchdown.
He also ran for two on the touch push type deal.
Dalton Kincaid had a really great game six catches for
one oh one in a touchdown. Their defense was aggressive,

(28:04):
they were swarming. Joey Bosa had a big game. He
was he was in the quarterbacks face a lot of
these games. On the turnover Patrick Maholes had, Joey Bosa
was putting the pressure on. Along with the sack that
he had in the game, it led to an interception.
Their rookie corner is looking like he's developing into it

(28:25):
a really great player and a playmaker. And again, like
I said the other night, this game is gonna have
playoff implications later on down the line. Sure, we know
the Kansas City Chiefs are gonna go on the run.
They're gonna make the playoffs. I have no doubt about that.
But they're really close to five hundred right now, and
the seating is gonna matter. So it's looking like they
will have to go to Buffalo. So things can change.

(28:48):
Buffalo can lose. They lost to the New England Patriots
in Buffalo. Things can change throughout the season. But the Chiefs,
this is a game that really could have put the
Chiefs in that elite conversation again where they know they
deserve to be where they've been every single year and
where they'll likely be in January. But you know, and

(29:10):
I know what everybody's gonna say. They always beat him
in the regular season, wait till playoffs. We understand that
that's that's that's fair, a fair point and a point
that I'm happy to listen to. But you also have
to give credit to a team that don won. So
we're gonna give the Buffalo Bills credit. They won this game.
They look dominant. Cook had twenty seven carries for one

(29:35):
hundred and fourteen yards. He looked, he looked really good
in this game. He continues to look good and dominant.
This team looks they look like they have a great
weapons and the secondary guys that are gonna be big
time playmakers down the road. And I think this Buffalo
Bills team again as always, is going to be former
to when when January comes. But this game being in

(29:56):
January and in Buffalo in January, will matter, will matter.
It doesn't always matter to Patrick Mahomes and Kansas to
the Chiefs, but I think it matters to Buffalo fans
and Josh Allen. I think they'll feel good about that,
especially coming off this win. But we say that every
single year. So we'll see what happens in the playoffs
as they are going to put it. But the time

(30:18):
of possession was in Buffalo's favor. They controlled the game.
Josh Allen has now won five straight regular season matches
versus Mahole, who has won all four of the playoff matchups.
Even though Josh Allen has played outstanding in the playoffs,
he's gone home a loser every single time. The Chiefs
have the Broncos next, another tough game in this really

(30:40):
tough AFC West. The Bills have the Dolphins, who are
kind of a dumpster fire right now, and it looks
like another good win for them, so they could be
potentially be seven and two going forward. I can't imagine.
I can't say that, you know, I don't want to
jinx anybody, but there aren't many worlds where I can

(31:00):
see the Buffalo Bills losing to the Miami Dolphins. In
the state that they're in and the issues that they're
dealing with. We're not even sure who's gonna be on
the Dolphins after Tuesday. I'm sure they're gonna lose some
players to trade. With the way their record and their
season's going, They're gonna try to get some value for
some of these guys. I would I would just assume

(31:21):
Chubb and Wadle uh, you know, Phillips maybe, who knows,
But guys are gonna be available and and people are
gonna be buyers. You know, a lot of these teams
need a pass rusher. If they can plan some offensive
line help that that are that are available, I'm sure

(31:41):
teams will last. But I'm looking forward to to seeing
how this trade trade deadline pass goes. Uh, what teams
are really in all in on action? I'm sure phones
are ringing right now, and if I'm the San Francisco
forty nine ers, I'm calling for d line help. There's
there's rumors that that they may lose Mikail Williams for

(32:01):
the season with an ACL, So you're gonna need even
more help after losing Nicholas john Bosa to an ACL.
I mean, these are these are really tough injuries. And
we talked about the MetLife Stadium, but it looks like
it's claimed another victim. Unfortunately, I don't understand it and
I don't really have a great explanation for it. But again,
it puts the San Francisco forty nine ers even more

(32:22):
in the market to get help, to get veteran help.
Even though they just got got Cleveland Farrell and Keon White,
They're gonna need more. They're gonna need more guys and
if they're gonna be competitive. The Vikings upset the Detroit
Lions in Detroit twenty seven to twenty four. JJ McCarthy

(32:46):
gets it done fourteen to twenty five for one hundred
and forty three yards to touchdown in the interception, also
ran for a score. I think that was the game
winning score that he ran for. Their defense was Harasz.
Jared Goff the entire game, had five sacks in the game.
Justin Jefferson six catches forty seven yards in that touchdown.

(33:09):
This was a game I'm sure the Lions felt good
about coming in a loss. That really is a head scratcher.
You know that the Vikings can play good defense, that
they can bring exotic looks, put a lot of pressure
on the quarterback, but there were too many uncharacteristic issues

(33:31):
for the Detroit Lions. They got a field goal block
in the game and Isaiah Rodgers returns it back to
Detroit territory for his team late in the game. Jared
Golf twenty five to thirty seven for two eighty four
and two touchdowns. He was solid, but again he was

(33:52):
harassed the entire game. There's some issues that popped up
along that offensive line. David Montgomery with a with a
quickal fumble in this game. And again I talked about
the block field goal with a chance to make it
a four point game in the fourth quarter. That was
a huge play in the game. Tyry On Arnold with it.
Finally Scratches gets them an interception. My guy, congratulations on

(34:13):
your first pick. The Detroit Lions got five sacks in
this game to go along with the five sacks the
Minnesota Vikings got, so you can't really blame the pass rush,
but they weren't able to stop the run. At the
end of the day, Aaron Jones average eight point seven
per carrying this game, they ran for one hundred and

(34:34):
forty two yards in a touchdown. That's the difference in
the game. But division games are always tough, and I'm
sure the Detroit Lions are gonna come back. They're gonna
lick their wounds, try to figure it out. Dan Campbell
is gonna keep this team motivated, but that's a loss
that that's gonna haunt them late in the season against
the Minnesota Vikings team playing a young quarterback in his

(34:55):
first game back from injury, you would hope they could
win this game at home, but they were unable to
do it. And I just know we're gonna be talking
about this late in the season when when it's gonna
come down to a game or two the standings, whether
you're home or away, whether you get the buy, or
whether you're you're you're battling and you're traveling on the

(35:16):
road against the top seed. So Yeah, congratulations to the
Minnesota Vikings and Lions got to figure it out. They
got the Commanders next week, a rematch of the divisional
game in which they lost. I'm sure there's a bit
of a revenge there where they looking forward to that.
I highly doubt it. The Vikings play the Baltimore Ravens,

(35:36):
who have Lamar Jackson back who threw for four touchdowns
on Thursday night and looked like they're re energized. So
I'm looking forward to seeing how that game goes next week.
But the game that may have been the biggest upset
of the day so far was the Carolina Panthers beating

(35:57):
the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau. This game was the
defensive battle. Bryce Young only threw for one hundred and
two yards on eleven pass I mean eleven for twenty
four one hundred and two yards in an interception to
Xavier and McKinney who finally got him an op and
he took full advantage of him. Xavier and McKenny played
an incredible game, also had a second game was working

(36:20):
on a Player of the Week. You got to give
Green Bay's defense a lot of credit. They were battling
this was back and forth game. Jordan Love twenty six
of thirty seven for two seventy three, but in the interception,
he could have had two interceptions. There was a fourth
and eight deep in the in Carolina territory. He looked back,

(36:41):
he threw it up. Michael Jackson was unable to catch
the football even though he was by hisself. I didn't
see a Green Bay Packer in the screen. This is
the kind of stuff I'm talking about Green Bay fans.
When y'all are sitting there telling me that he's the answer,
and I look up at y'all. The dolph with the
Carolina Panthers who have been battling this year. They're five

(37:03):
and four, they're finding ways to win. But yeah, Green Bay,
you can't go one for five in the red zone
in any game and expect to win. That was the
issue in this game. They were one for five and
they were unable to generate points. They were just unable
to generate points. They were able to push the ball
down the field get to the red zone, and the

(37:25):
Carolina Panthers kept standing up each and every time in
the red zone, and the Green Bay Packers had no answer.
Josh Jacobs, we played a good game seventeen or eighty
seven and a touchdown late in the game that was
the one red zone score they had. But again, this
is one of those inexcusable losses where where you're scratching

(37:47):
your head because you want to say, hey, this Green
Bay Packers team is the best team in NFC. You
want to be able to say that unequivocally, but you
can't because you just don't know what you're gonna get
from the quarterback. And I keep saying it and people
keep calling me, Oh, I'm hating on the guy. No,
I'm not. I'm really not. It's just you can't jeckle

(38:07):
In hide in this league. You can't and expect to
be called great consistently. If you do, that's what you
will be. The fringe great. You'll be good sometimes. But
in order for the Green Bay Packers to go where
they want to go this season and to really be
Super Bowl contenders, he's going to have to be better.

(38:28):
We know what Laflour can do drawing up in offense,
we know what Josh Jacobs can do. We know what
that defense could do, and sure they can. They could
have got more pressure today, they could have They could
have put more pressure on on Bryce Young, no question
about it. You always expect. Hey, you're paying a guy
forty something million dollars, forty five million dollars, forty six

(38:49):
million dollars, you expected him to have a sack every game.
I know that's what Green Bay Packers fans are saying.
That's not realistic. You guys got a great defensive line.
They're gonna get home. There's a reason that Bryce Young
only threw the ball twenty times, but Rico Dowble twenty
five carries for one thirty and two two tds. That's
the issue. They couldn't stop the run. They they did

(39:12):
get us. They got the sack on defense, they got
the turnover on defense. But again, you have to be
able to generate points in the red zone. You can't
just get to the red zone and say, hey, we're
gonna take three and then mc madnus missed one of them.
You missed the field goal. That's gonna hurt you. Every
single time you have a turnover on downs in the
red zone, that's gonna hurt you. That counts as a turnover,

(39:35):
and and and most coaches books, so that's where it is.
You know, are the Green Bay Packers a good team.
They're five to on one and and they're two losses.
They've been similar to this, and they've been against teams
that you weren't expecting them to lose to the Cleveland
Browns and the Carolina Panthers. And the Carolina Panthers scored

(39:55):
sixteen points a last second walk off field goal, and
I want to say Cleveland scored thirteen points. So you
need your fifty five million dollar quarterback to generate more
than twenty points, and you win both of them, you're
you're likely you're likely what seven zero and one because

(40:16):
the game he played his butt off and played really well,
the defense gives up forty points and it's a tie
against the Dallas Cowboys. But give Dak Pretzcott a lot
of credit. That is one of those ones, and he
played like at that game. But he's been up and
down this season as well. But in order for the
Green Bay Packers to be who they want to be
and who everybody expects him to be, including myself, it's

(40:39):
gonna be on the arm of Jordan Love. That's what
they're where their season is gonna rest. And you guys
can argue with somebody else because you're not gonna argue
with me when he is an efficient and effective Even
when Josh Jacobs runs for eighty seven yards and in
a touchdown and and really has a good impact on
this game, you're still gonna need the quarterback to get

(41:01):
it done in the red zone. You're gonna need your
quarterback to be efficient and effective, and he was not
this game and the two losses. That's the story of
the game. We'll see Green Bay, We'll see because I
believe in this defense, I believe in his offense and
the play caller. I think they're gonna be a great team.
They have a really really tough matchup next week and

(41:24):
a playoff rematch against the Eagles that will tell us
a lot. That game will tell us a lot about
this team. Have they progressed? He threw three interceptions last
year against this Eagles team. Will he throw three touchdowns? Potentially?
He who could potentially have the answers in and correct
the mistakes. There's still a tough Eagles team. They just

(41:44):
traded for jyr Alexander. I'm sure he'll be playing in
this game. So we'll see. Next week. The Panthers have
the Saints a game that's a winnable game. The Saints
have been struggling. It looks like they may be picking
really early in the draft next year. So good for
the Carolina Panthers though, good game for the Carolina Panthers.
David Canalis, you know, starting to build something cool out

(42:07):
there in Carolina. It's good to see. And good for
Rico o'dowdell who continues to show up with his opportunities
and make the most of his opportunities. Always love a
guy to make makes the most of his opportunities, and
he's continued to do that. And it looks like in
this game he surpassed Chubber Hubbard on the depth chart. Finally,
we'll see if that's if that's the truth, or maybe

(42:30):
this is just a one game thing. But the Broncos
beat the Houston Texans in a defensive battle. C J.
Stroud gets knocked out early in the game and a
play on a play that it's gonna cause a lot

(42:50):
of controversy, I'm sure. Was it a legal hit? Was
it unnecessary roughness? Should he have slid earlier? Is he protected?
Et cetera. I'll give you my two cents on it.
I'll give you my two cents on it. You gotta slide,
and you gotta slide early enough to protect yourself. I

(43:13):
know I'm a defensive player and people are gonna call
me bias, but you can't be in between. The game
is happening too fast, and as a defensive player, all
you're worried about is limiting yards and limiting impact. And
when you're a quarterback and you're in the middle of
the defense, you're running, you're in the middle of making
a move or slide or sit down or whatever. Slid,
just slide, get to the ground and it plays over.

(43:35):
Guys will jump over you or whatever. But when you're
in between and I'm committed, it's not dirty for guys
to make the hit. This is football. It's a violent game.
And I'm not even sure that was a penalty in general,
if I'm being honest, because you didn't hit him in
the head. Now Shroud's head whip back and hit the turf,

(43:56):
so that ends up being what caused the concussion and opinion,
but I don't know what you guys expect defensive players
to do. This is an offensive game. They've tailored it
and made sure that everybody understands it's an offensive league,
but everything shouldn't ben a fifth offense. And you can't

(44:16):
keep punishing defensive players because quarterbacks won't protect themselves. And
it happened in the forty nine Ers Giants game as well.
When Jackson Dark runs becomes a runner, does it really
slide half slides and takes a hit from Bethune and
they say unnecessary roughness head or neck area? What are

(44:36):
we doing? When? How? How how does a runner who's
running the football and does not slide in time get
those kind of protections. That's gonna be troubling in this game.
And I'm sure illegal come back and say, oh, those
are the wrong calls, But in the mits in the
middle of the game, those could be costly called, especially

(44:57):
in a game like this where it's such a tough
game and the points are so valuable. Uh, you can't
have those things. And then that's where where I think
the rest are gonna have to figure it out. They're
gonna have to figure things out. But for for the
Denver Broncos, who we have this week on Thursday Night Football,

(45:18):
what a win. Another fourth quarter comeback for Bowl Knicks.
In the Denver Broncos, they always seem to have it
when they need it. This is six wins in a row.
They're seven and two. Again, back to the conversation about
who the best team in the AFC is, the comeback
kids could make a case. They could make a case
for being one of the best defenses in the National

(45:39):
Football League as well. And this is without their their
defensive player of the reigning defensive Player of the Year
at corner. So when it when they're able to play
like this. I know Houston Texans offensive struggle, but CJ.
Shroud looked really good last week against the San Francisco
forty nine ers. Davis Mills uh came in and played
a solid game and instead he was seventeen to thirty

(46:02):
for one to thirty seven. They held Nick Chubb in place.
The Texans were only able to get field goals in
this game. They had five field goals in this game.
That's the fifteen points they got. So the Broncos were
able to keep them out the end zone and bow
Knicks did enough. He threw two touchdowns. He did have
the interception, but his thirty six rushing yards are the

(46:24):
story of this game. He late in the game, the
last drive, the scoring drive, he was able to scramble
and find a hole in the defense and pretty much
get them in field goal range and give him a
chance to win this game. It's really really cool to
see what he's doing with Sean Payton and these guys
are doing out there. They built a really good team,

(46:46):
and again in a division that's been dominated by the
Kansas City Chiefs, the Denver Broncos are making the case.
They're making the case and it doesn't always have to
be pretty, doesn't always have to be the way you
want it. I mean, you don't want to have to
always come from behind scored thirty three points in the
fourth like they did against the Giants. But I think

(47:08):
games like this give you confidence that you can that
it's never over and that as long as you have
this guy under center and this play caller, you guys
have a chance to win the game. Their defense battled
throughout the game and they pulled it out. It's gonna
be a really, really fun finish to the season, no

(47:28):
question about it. The Denver Broncos play the Raiders, who've
been struggling this week, so they could They could be
eight and two by Friday, which would be saying a
lot about this team. Coming into the season. Obviously, they
made the playoffs last year. I don't know if the
expectations were for a team to potentially be eight and
two this point in the season, but they definitely are

(47:50):
and they're only getting better and when Patrick certain comes back,
they'll only get healthier. And they are a team that
I think should make a move for receiver and check
the availability of some of these receivers and maybe get
themselves in an even better position going into the to November.

(48:15):
But speaking of unherlded teams, the New England Patriots beat
the Atlanta Falcons twenty four to twenty three. Drake May
continues his stellar play. He's nineteen of twenty nine two
fifty nine, two touchdowns. He did have the interception. He's
he's playing good football, uh and he's playing like one
of the best quarterbacks in the National Football League right

(48:37):
now and he has been again. Just like the Denver Broncos,
the Patriots have won six games in a row. They've
won six games in a row. They're playing solid defense.
They're just gritty and grimy and they're gonna get it
done by any means necessary. They have a defense that
just gets it done by any means necessary. Michael Pennix

(48:59):
was battling throughout this game. Drake London three touchdown catches
in the game. Pennix was twenty two of thirty seven
two twenty one three touchdowns. But John Robinson had eight
catches for fifty yards and twelve rushers for forty six yards.
But they missed. They lost the game because of them
missed pat Drake London scores a touchdown that that brings

(49:24):
him within one and again all you have to do
is kick the pat make the pat and the game
goes to overtime. Unfortunately they were unable to do that.
But those are the things you gotta have. You gotta
have the details, you gotta have the fundamentals, and making
a pat counts as a fundamental in my book. They
weren't able to do it. So now the Patriots again,

(49:45):
another seven and two team in the AFC. You gotta
give credit where's due. You gotta give credit whe's due.
I know people are like they shouldn't be and it's
still gonna be the Chiefs and in beials late in
the season, no question about. These are great teams who
know how to win in the playoffs, but do not
discount these young whipper snappers, these young kids, these young

(50:07):
fire stars, because they're winning right now, just like I
wouldn't discount the Kansas City Chiefs, Kunta City Chiefs for
seven and two right now. We put them one in
power rankies, and we let the rest tell itself. If
the Buffalo Bills again are gonna be seven to two,
that's what we do. But Buffalo Bills lost to this
new England Patriots team, so there's something to be said

(50:30):
about that. I believe in this team. Good for Vrabel.
Rabel gets gets let go from the Tennessee Titans. The
Tennessee Titans fire his replacement a year and five games
into his tenure, which says a lot about Tennessee Titans.
And the Patriots get their coach of the future and
he has this team playing well and battling each and

(50:51):
every week. The Patriots have the Bucks next week. That's
a fun game. That's gonna be a fun game. I
can't wait to watch that game. And the Falcons again
have Indianapolis Coats, can't wait to watch that one. The
Bears in the Bengals in a shootout, in a shootout,
eighty nine total points in the game, Blackout throws for

(51:11):
four to seventy four touchdowns in an interception. T Higgins
has seven for one to twenty one and two touchdowns,
Jamar Chase six for one to eleven no touchdowns, Yosa
Yo Savage has five for sixty six in a touchdown,
and Chase Brown eight for seventy five. What a game
for Joe Flacco, but they were unable to get the

(51:32):
win because the Bears. The Bears Coaston Loveless. Loveland has
six catches for one to eighteen, including a fifty eight
yard game winning touchdown with I think twenty five seconds
to go in the game. Just inexcusable for the Cincinnati
Bengals in that defense. And again they've lost back to

(51:56):
back games where their offensive score thirty eight forty two points.
I don't understand how you do it. It's been bad defense.
And there was a stat when we had their game
that said Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase and T Higgins were
about ninety two million dollars and their entire defensive cap

(52:17):
hit was eighty two million. And I mean that tells
the story. That tells the story. You get what you
pay for. But to give up forty seven to the Bears.
It's tough. It's tough, give give, give Kellth Williams a
lot of credit. Twenty for thirty four to eighty three touchdowns,
ran for fifty three yards, and they run all over

(52:38):
the Bengals cow money guy twenty six carries for one
to seventy six and he didn't have a touchdown on
the day, but dominate the game on the ground. I'm
sure Ben Johnson is ecstatic about this performance. Obviously, defensively
they could do better than that, but to score forty
seven points, you're always excited. The Bears have the Giants

(53:00):
snacks and the Bengals have the Pittsburgh Steelers and another
AFC North battle. The Bengals defense has just been awful.
They're ranked last in almost every major major category in
KUL and total defense, rush defense, and points allowed per game.

(53:21):
You can't do it. Doesn't matter who you your quarterback is,
or who your offense or your receivers are. You can
pay them ninety two million and they're getting out the production.
They're getting the production out of this offense. They've scored
forty two points and they still lose. So that's where
you have a problem with this offense. The forty two
points and you still lose is very frustrating for those players.

(53:44):
I'm sure Te Higgins and Jamar Chase and Joe Flacco
incredibly frustrated. You can't have it. You score forty two,
they score forty seven. You score thirty eight, they score
thirty nine. Man, that'd be tough on me. As always,
I appreciate you guys join to me. You could be
anywhere in the world, but you're here with me, and
I surely, surely always appreciate it. Hit that sub button
