there's an excitement about as you know, and just closing

never take that for granted because, as you know, every
series is hard, Like I don't care how good you are.
I don't care if you sweep a team. It wasn't easy,

you share different moments with different people, right, like the
moment that me and Steph share there and Steve this
different moment, you know what I'm saying. Because we've gone
in this place five times. I mean we've played against
this team five times in the playoffs and beat them
all five times. Like we won to now two get

like two completely different teams. Like they were really good
and got really really really really really really really bad. Yeah,
and then just got really good, really good.

celebration there. I would say there's more of an appreciation
than a celebration. That one felt good.

my sleeper teams for the year. I gotta give a
shout out. You know, I picked them. I have a
great season. I think for you guys, it felt like
like the monkey was off your back. Right as an underdog,
you jump out, you get the lead in the series.
But you know, this team had a lot a lot

of fight, right, And I love a quote. I think
your quote at the end when you found the camera
saying good night has been real? Like, that was a bar, right,
because y'all been going back and forth. You know, damn
they're fighting. It was a scrappy series. So the good
night it's been real that was a bar.

I appreciate that. Man. That felt good. You know, it's like, yeah,
it's been real, but good night it's a rock. We're
moving on to the next one. But hard fought series.

You know, one of the tougher series I've played in.
If I'm honest, them boys was tough. Your boy, buddy,

He was right on time. Buddy had like this serious

everything was just so matter of fact, like you think

that game. He was so dialed in. Well, when I
saw him walking in, I was disclose, and I wish
I would have done it. I was going to record
him walking in because he was walking so powerful. I'm

not surprised at all that he had that game, But
it was great to see him have that game. I
know the amount of work he put in, and I
know the amount of slander that he's caught all year
at different times, and so to see him have that
game on the biggest stage in Game seven, like you
see how tight guys can get. Look at Dylan Brooks,
you know what I'm saying, Like you see Houston was tight,

like out there playing on the floor against him, like
you could feel it. Fred van Bleet wasn't tight, you
know what I'm saying before, But they were tight and
we could feel out we consense it. The arena was tight,
like you consistent. They knew what was coming. They like
not these dudes again, and everybody in the gym knew
what was happening. It was the worst kept secret. And

Buddy was the opposite, but he was amongst a group
that was like, whatever it is, what you know, we're good.
Like Steve come in like, oh it's cool, we're good.
Straight you know, steph through the finger roll high up
in the layup line and when he make it, he'd
go jumping around everyby he made and everybody out there

dancing like we was loose and I think Buddy was
able to feed off of that as well, whereas opposed
to those guys they went the opposite way. It was
game seven. Yeah, you just taking game seven. Game seven.
You gotta tighten up, you know. Yeah.

Game seven is tough because all you're thinking about the
night before, if you've never been in one, is like, man,
I finally get to be in the game seven, What
am I gonna do? And you saw Houston in the beginning,
even Saygoon missing easy bunnies, Jalen Green missing shots, stealing
Brooks missing easy ones. Outside of Van Fleet and uh

and Thompson, those are the only real force they had
and they had to scrap. Y'all made him scrap for everything.
And that's what playoff Game seven, Championship basketball. It is
all about one thousand percent, you know.

Going into that game, we made some adjustments on how
to dice their zone up, which was genius by Steve Stots.
We diced that zone up, which then forced them to
have to take Steven Adams out. And that's the lineup
they were doing. That's the lineups doing the damage.

said it, like, yo, we gotta get fifty to fifty

So he said, this arena gonna be tight. They gonna

like you said, Thompson played with a lot of force. Uh,

is special. The way he defends, the way he get downhill. Yeah,
he's he's certain of himself. He athletic as hell is.
He relentless. A lot of respect for the young fella manpcial.

of guys and I always tell people, man, in a
playoff series, one of two things happened. You either completely
lose respect for someone or you gained a lot of
respect for someone because you see who really real and

see who really real. You also get to see how
people are after the game, which we'll talk about. But

lot come out and tell you a lot about a guy.
And I didn't see. I didn't see Jalen Green after
the game, but some of the guys told me that
he was out there. So respect. But Dylan Brooks ran

guys has made of he ran off the court like
ain't shaking nobody up. And you were like you you
you admitted that you were trying to hurt Steff Hand,
which again fine by me, Bro, Like I get it,

see him right there. I said to him, I like,
wave him now, and I went and adopted him up
and that was kind of a little safe. But don't
be that guy man like you don't like you, you
lose a series. But that's who Dylan Brooks is, you

not you know what I'm saying. And like I said,
his mom was talking, and so I love I don't
get that. I got a lot of love for young
fella because the way you go about his business, the
way you play the game, I got a lot of
love for Don't be like that because you lose respect.
When when guys lose respect for you in this league,

couldn't come through in this series in large part because
nobody on the court respects you. So anything you do
the way's gonna be looked at the way it's gonna
be received. It ain't beneficial to your team when you

you're trying to compete at the highest level and you

and they catch you in the end, so they front
office trying to run off and not say what's up,

a lot of guys over there. Not that I ever

the series. It was right after we lost to UH

before you know, at three games and you're like, yo,

we're actually going total opposite of that, like we wanted.
And so that's just the way the playoffs are. So
we'll fill that out, you know, over the course of
the next you know, two three games. But playing hard
is what gets you win to start the series. And
then you have to play with IQ and with the
you know, with the understanding of what they're trying to do.

So that's where we are with.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
It's almost beneficial to come in right after game seven
into a new series because you already used to the
contact playing against a team that is polar opposite. I
feel one Minnesota is a better matchup for you guys
on paper, like y'all match and mesh well, coming out
(29:13):
the Houston series that was that was not the best
matchup because of their youth, the athleticism, the length right,
the way that they attack. You got two big seven footers.
I like this Minnesota matchup. I like to talk about
real quick preparation because you've been on it, like you've
been on both of ends, coming out of Game seven,
(29:35):
going into a game one, sitting back for a game one,
watching the game seven, and scouting a team defensively in preparation.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Which one do you favor? I think for me, I'd
always favorite the rest, being able to scout a team,
have longer's time to prepare. They didn't get too much
time to prepare because in a sense, they had to
prepare for both as well, but you know they got
a little more time to just sit back and watch.
You know, anytime you can get rest throughout the playoffs
(30:06):
and rejuvenate. It's a long season, man. I think that's
been official. On the flip side, sometimes you can get
too much rest and you can kind of need that
game conditioning back and shake a little russ off little
or as opposed to we played it a day ago.
You know, sometimes it you know, you just saw it,
like how you feel, yeah, like you know you saw
the Knicks Celtics. Celtics have been waiting for the game,

you know, so like it can go both ways. I
personally would prefer the rest, though, that's just I've been
through like you said seven. I've been through sweeps and
had to wait for a series that went seven. Regardless,
I think anytime you can get rest during the playoffs
where high level athletes, you can figure the other part out.

How you think how you see the series going?
Speaker 1 (30:52):
Like I said, it's turnovers, threebounds and who list three
point shots, neutralizing, go bear neutralized, and Julius random. Make
Julius Randall a jump shooter. Make Anthony Edwards a jump shooter.
This is gonna be a tough series. I think you
go to distance six or seven games. I don't like

making predictions because they'd be kicking my ass on Twitter
every time I say something, but I definitely think this
series is gonna go go seven. I think if y'all
can steal one of these first two games, Minnesota.

Is different. It's different than the Lakers.

They were up and they have so they have so
many motives and motivations for that Lakers series that if
y'all can get game one or game two, I think
it turned the series in you favor. But I definitely
feel the game seven the West gonna be tough. I
don't think anybody is in these two rounds. I don't

see no sweeps. I don't see no four ones. If
I do, I'll be They're very surprised. This is the
matchup I've been waiting to see. I think this is
a fair, a fair, fair matchup. They'll match up well.
They match up well against y'all. I have to give
you all the advantage because of experience. And then on
the other side, coaching Minnesota, I watched the Laker game
(32:19):
and they close the Lakers out. They played well, but
I saw them they take mental dives, they take like
mental breaks, and the Lakers they don't shoot the three
like y'all. That could bite them to because they play
like this. They never like take you all the way out.

But they're a tough team. They're tough, te resilient, and
they're super talented. And I think that they have because
of the talent, they got a larger margin for air
because they can cover defensively and on offense.

That's a fact. Definitely a great rail around the team.
Let's move around this league real quick. We got a
Knicks versus Celtics Game one, Knicks go into TV guard
and it's still won. What are your expectations? How long

does this series go? Og had twenty nine. Jalen had
twenty nine, mike L Bridges fifty one minutes iron Man.
The Celtics miss forty five three pointers. J t and
Jylen Brown combined for fourteen for forty three and five
for twenty five from three.

I like the Knicks rolling with the Knicks, It's next

But I matchups the next matchup well against Boston. If
Jalen Brunson can Jalen Brunson in the fourth quarter, Boston
got problems jew Holiday he was playing. He played some
good def but Jalen Brow and is unguardable in the

fourth quarter. Then you look at Og hitting the three.

McHale bridges. He can defend.

So when I look at Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown, what
I was saying with the Knicks Boston is a penetrate drive. Kid,
create open spaces, open shots. Because they really got five
shooters out there on the floor. The Knicks with the matchup,
they was actually closing the pack down. And so every
shot that Boston took, whether it was three, it was

three feet behind the line. Rarely did they get a
lot of open looks, and I think that kind of
disrupted their flow. When they did get open looks, they
rushed it or they just shot bad shots. So if
the Nates can keep Boston as a perimeter oriented team,
which they are, they shoot a lot of threes, but
if they can defend that three. I like the Knicks
(34:52):
in this series because I don't feel like Boston has
anybody that can really guard Jalen Bruns and then Kat
that is a mismatch in the series. Kat can be
an ultimate mismatch in this series, and I didn't think
that he had the best game, So I'll be looking
out for Kat to be explosive. And then it's a
(35:15):
matter if heart mcal bridges og with all the minutes
they playing, if they can if they can sustain, But
it's always next for me. I like the players, but
I'm not a Boston I'm not a Boston Celtics fan
at all.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
Anybody understand that it's me all day. But no, I
think the Knicks, like you said, I think they do
match up well. I think where the matchup kind of
can to in the Knicks favors. I don't know the
severity of Porzinger's injury. But Porzingis. Porzingis is a big
key for that team because he punishes switches really well.

And so Porzingis, like I said, if he don't come back,
then this series getting really hard. He comes back, I
think the Celtics will be just fine. They can still
be fine if he doesn't come back, but Porzingis makes
that team really go, like really take off. And so

he's a miss mess Brabo. Yeah, and when it shoots
four space and the way he shooting, like all can
shoot three, but the way Porzingi shoots the three different,
it's completely different, you know what I'm saying. So I
think Boston will be fine. But if Porzingis can't come back,
he can get tough. But in saying that, they missed
forty five point three pointers and lost by three, so

I don't think they going home work. They was up

so you know, I think Boston will be just fine.

the Pacers walked into Cleveland and snuck out Game one,

he's coming back or will he when he will return.

I do think they are a good matchup for the
Calves because the Cavs got those bigs and Pascal and

you know, Pascal aal to do his thing, go down.
But they play from the outside and that pulls them
bigs away from the rim, you know. And they were
getting switches on Mobley, and they were getting the switches
on Jared Allen, and that's what they was going for.

even hooping. Ty Reeves had a big game. Obi Topping
been incredible off the bench, I think for the second
half of the season, at least incredible. TJ McConnell doing
what he does. So you know, they got a series
on their hand for sure, and they better get healthy.
If they don't get healthy, they can get upset. They
can get upset, that's for sure. Nothing's promised. Regular season

only means something for the regular season. And then you know,
so I like the Calves, but they must get healthy.
They ain't just gonna beat this team not healthy. Now,
the patience took a page out of Calves book.

a celebration as it's gonna get. I think, you know,

you share different moments with different people, right, like the

this team five times in the playoffs and beat them

like two completely different teams. Like they were really good

And he just kept like he was so vocal and
everything was just so matter of fact, like you think
he'd been in this situation a million times, like he

was so dialed in. I'm actually not surprised he had
that game. He was so dialed in. Well, when I
saw him walking in, I was disclose, and I wish
I would have done it. I was going to record
him walking in because he was walking so powerful. I'm

not surprised at all that he had that game, But
it was great to see him have that game. I
know the amount of work he put in, and I
know the amount of slander that he's caught all year
at different times, and so to see him have that
game on the biggest stage in Game seven, like you
see how tight guys can get. Look at Dylan Brooks,
you know what I'm saying, Like you see Houston was tight,

like out there playing on the floor against him, like
you could feel it. Fred van Bleet wasn't tight, you
know what I'm saying before, But they were tight and
we could feel out we consense it. The arena was tight,
like you consistent. They knew what was coming. They like
not these dudes again, and everybody in the gym knew
what was happening. It was the worst kept secret. And

Buddy was the opposite, but he was amongst a group
that was like, whatever it is, what you know, we're good.
Like Steve come in like, oh it's cool, we're good.
Straight you know, steph through the finger roll high up
in the layup line and when he make it, he'd
go jumping around everyby he made and everybody out there

dancing like we was loose and I think Buddy was
able to feed off of that as well, whereas opposed
to those guys they went the opposite way. It was
game seven. Yeah, you just taking game seven. Game seven.
You gotta tighten up, you know. Yeah.

Game seven is tough because all you're thinking about the
night before, if you've never been in one, is like, man,
I finally get to be in the game seven, What
am I gonna do? And you saw Houston in the beginning,
even Saygoon missing easy bunnies, Jalen Green missing shots, stealing
Brooks missing easy ones. Outside of Van Fleet and uh

and Thompson, those are the only real force they had
and they had to scrap. Y'all made him scrap for everything.
And that's what playoff Game seven, Championship basketball. It is
all about one thousand percent, you know.

Going into that game, we made some adjustments on how
to dice their zone up, which was genius by Steve Stots.
We diced that zone up, which then forced them to
have to take Steven Adams out. And that's the lineup
they were doing. That's the lineups doing the damage.

We diced that zone up right, so, and Steve just
said it, like, yo, we gotta get fifty to fifty
balls and not turn the ball up like, ain't no

So he said, this arena gonna be tight. They gonna

like you said, Thompson played with a lot of force. Uh,
he he got a change. It's tough. He live in
the moment. A lot of respect for young fella. He

is special. The way he defends, the way he get downhill. Yeah,
he's he's certain of himself. He athletic as hell is.
He relentless. A lot of respect for the young fella manpcial.

of guys and I always tell people, man, in a
playoff series, one of two things happened. You either completely
lose respect for someone or you gained a lot of
respect for someone because you see who really real and
when when these playoffs happen, you know what I'm saying,

you see a lot of people fade. You get to
see who really real. You also get to see how
people are after the game, which we'll talk about. But
sing gooon, real man, he back down at all? What
I would say to him if I was his og,
he can take it right from here. Flop a little less, embellish,
a little less because with a defender like me, he

doing that my feet off that, you know what I'm saying?
He real, He ain't he physical, He ain't backing down.

But Jabari Smith, he was huge in this series for

those guys, may on how they acted after the game.
You know, you see a lot about you see a
lot come out and tell you a lot about a guy.
And I didn't see. I didn't see Jalen Green after
the game, but some of the guys told me that
he was out there. So respect. But Dylan Brooks ran
off the court. So when I say, you see what

guys has made of he ran off the court like
ain't shaking nobody up. And you were like you you
you admitted that you were trying to hurt Steff Hand,
which again fine by me, Bro, Like I get it,
We all get it when you hoop. You know what
I'm saying. So if you're gonna be on that type

was walking this way so he ain't have to come

see him right there. I said to him, I like,
wave him now, and I went and adopted him up
and that was kind of a little safe. But don't
be that guy man like you don't like you, you
lose a series. But that's who Dylan Brooks is, you

sucker man you like. But but Tari East said, he
not you know what I'm saying. And like I said,
his mom was talking, and so I love I don't
get that. I got a lot of love for young
fella because the way you go about his business, the
way you play the game, I got a lot of
love for Don't be like that because you lose respect.
When when guys lose respect for you in this league,

like it don't matter and it's gonna catch you in
the end. You know what I'm saying, Like Dylan Brooks
couldn't come through in this series in large part because
nobody on the court respects you. So anything you do
the way's gonna be looked at the way it's gonna
be received. It ain't beneficial to your team when you

you feel the series like that skyle of report gets
more and more in depth. That's the series goal when

before you know, at three games and you're like, yo,

And so that's just the way the playoffs are. So

then you have to play with IQ and with the

It's almost beneficial to come in right after game seven
into a new series because you already used to the
contact playing against a team that is polar opposite. I
feel one Minnesota is a better matchup for you guys

matchup because of their youth, the athleticism, the length right,
the way that they attack. You got two big seven footers.
I like this Minnesota matchup. I like to talk about
real quick preparation because you've been on it, like you've
been on both of ends, coming out of Game seven,

going into a game one, sitting back for a game one,
watching the game seven, and scouting a team defensively in preparation.

Which one do you favor? I think for me, I'd
always favorite the rest, being able to scout a team,
have longer's time to prepare. They didn't get too much
time to prepare because in a sense, they had to
prepare for both as well, but you know they got
a little more time to just sit back and watch.
You know, anytime you can get rest throughout the playoffs

and rejuvenate. It's a long season, man. I think that's
been official. On the flip side, sometimes you can get
too much rest and you can kind of need that
game conditioning back and shake a little russ off little
or as opposed to we played it a day ago.
You know, sometimes it you know, you just saw it,

the Knicks Celtics. Celtics have been waiting for the game,

personally would prefer the rest, though, that's just I've been

had to wait for a series that went seven. Regardless,
I think anytime you can get rest during the playoffs
where high level athletes, you can figure the other part out.

can steal one of these first two games, Minnesota.

I do, I'll be They're very surprised. This is the
matchup I've been waiting to see. I think this is
a fair, a fair, fair matchup. They'll match up well.

the other side, coaching Minnesota, I watched the Laker game

and they close the Lakers out. They played well, but
I saw them they take mental dives, they take like
mental breaks, and the Lakers they don't shoot the three
like y'all. That could bite them to because they play
like this. They never like take you all the way out.

But they're a tough team. They're tough, te resilient, and
they're super talented. And I think that they have because
of the talent, they got a larger margin for air
because they can cover defensively and on offense.

shot that Boston took, whether it was three, it was

three feet behind the line. Rarely did they get a
lot of open looks, and I think that kind of
disrupted their flow. When they did get open looks, they
rushed it or they just shot bad shots. So if
the Nates can keep Boston as a perimeter oriented team,
which they are, they shoot a lot of threes, but
if they can defend that three. I like the Knicks

in this series because I don't feel like Boston has
anybody that can really guard Jalen Bruns and then Kat
that is a mismatch in the series. Kat can be
an ultimate mismatch in this series, and I didn't think
that he had the best game, So I'll be looking
out for Kat to be explosive. And then it's a

matter if heart mcal bridges og with all the minutes
they playing, if they can if they can sustain, But
it's always next for me. I like the players, but
I'm not a Boston I'm not a Boston Celtics fan
at all.

think the Knicks, like you said, I think they do
match up well. I think where the matchup kind of
can to in the Knicks favors. I don't know the

think the Celtics will be just fine. They can still

see it and you never really want to see it.
And man, he's such a great person, a great human being.
The fact that I got the opportunity to share and

win in a gold medal with him just such a
special guy. Man. I spoke. I spoke about him in
a press conference the day that they announced it, and
I almost started crying. And I'm speaking about him again
and I'm about to start crying again, Like that's that's
his impact, and that's how amazing he is. So I
(43:02):
look forward to getting out to San Antonio and seeing
him this summer. But job well done, Coach Pop. You changed,
You changed the game as we know it. And you
you built the dynasty, You built the powerhouse. You built
one of the better organizations in in our league. And
it's you know, the way you credit your guys and
(43:26):
doing that with you is like the selflessness wonderful come man,
So salute the coach Pop. Thank you for what you
brought to the game. Thank you for allowing me to
be coached by you and do something special with you.
I hold that close to my heart. I love you,

I at all that we didn't want to go medal,
but I was on the Olympic team and I got
a chance to be able to sit next to Coach
Pop when he was an assistant coach. George Carr was
the hand coach. So yeah, that was one of the
turmoil teams. But Pop kept me in it. Pob kept
(44:06):
my mind in it. He was somebody you can talk like.
He looked like a tough dude. Yeah, well he liked
the funny, charismatic love the game and you know, to
be on the team and to see who he is
as a person. Then to play against him and to
know like he got respect for you is a big
(44:29):
thing playing against the San Antonio Spurs. The way he
coached everything. When I'm coaching the kids or when I'm coaching,
I always think like Pop if I were to coach,
and now that I'm coaching, I think like Pop calling
early timeouts, sitting my style like man. One time he
called us time out. We playing man. He set the
(44:50):
whole starting fall, start fire, get up out of here.
Speaker 2 (44:53):
And they still beat us, and they still beat us.
Speaker 1 (44:58):
And I realized that as a visionary, he was always
coaching for the future.
Speaker 2 (45:05):
He was always prepping you for the future.
Speaker 1 (45:07):
He was always prepping his teams for the future, for
the playoffs, for situations, different players that he used, and man,
just just what an incredible basketball mind, but what an
incredible leader, right, what an incredible basketball godfather.
Speaker 2 (45:23):
To everybody.

And then I mean as far as his spirit and
his energy and and his vision for bringing international players
and putting them on one team.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
