You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Here we go on a Friday. It's gonna be a
good one. We are ready to roll blazing five and
one hour. It's The Herd. Wherever you may be, however
you may be listening, We always thank you for making
us whatever platform, it is part of your day. I am,
(00:46):
you know, j Mac. Sometimes you're watching history and you
understand it. I remember being a kid and watching Hank
Aaron break Babe Bruce record with a home run Fulton
County Stadium in Atlanta. And other times you're watching history
and you're not necessarily aware of it because it's not
just statistics. You are watching something that really we've maybe
(01:10):
never seen. And I felt that watching Josh Allen last night,
and that's where I'm going to start the show today.
So if you didn't watch last night's game, the easiest
way I would describe, it is the team with the
less talented quarterback that makes more mistakes lost to the
(01:30):
team that has the much more talented quarterback that makes
no mistakes. The Bills last night scored thirty one points
and had no turnovers, second team in league history to
start the season with three straight games thirty plus points
zero turnovers. Josh Allen, through hard work and coaching, has
eliminated his only flaw, reckless. And what's remarkable is my
(01:55):
entire life. I said this on the air many times.
It's the one thing I didn't think coaches could mostly
coach you out of because anybody I ever met in
high school that was reckless at seventeen, if I saw
him again thirty years later, they were reckless at forty seven.
I always thought it was a DNA thing. I always
thought it was just kind of a personality thing. Reckless
guy early is reckless guy at fifty five years old.
(02:18):
And it shows you how humble and also how self
aware Josh Allen is. Since the start of last season,
forty eight touchdowns with Josh Allen eight giveaways, the Bills
have not lost the turnover battle in a season and
a half twenty five games. I mean, and he doesn't
(02:39):
play favorites. Everybody eats nine different guys caught passes. I
mean I loved Andrew luck and we all love Brett Farr.
You couldn't get the reckless out of them. I mean
Matt Stafford the year he won the Super Bowl with
the Rams, did you know he led the NFL in interceptions?
Eli Manning twice, beat Tom Brady three times. He led
(02:59):
the NFL in picks. So I've always loved guys like
Elway who's aggressive, and Peyton Manning that's aggressive. But you
can't you can't eliminate the interceptions. To have this much
talent and horsepower, and Josh is the biggest, strongest, best arm.
To have all this horse power and yet be willing
(03:22):
to put on restricter plates is insane. You are watching history.
This makes absolutely no sense. I mean the quarterbacks that
we all love, we love the gunslinger part. And then
Josh Allen came into the league, and he was a
bit of a gunslinger, but smart enough, humble enough, self
aware enough realizing that's not the sport. Brady and Mahomes
(03:44):
didn't throw picks, and so Josh Allen with all that horsepower,
with that V twelve engine. It's like, now I'm gonna
go electric. I'm not gonna do that. So he's like
similar to a prodigious home run hitter that changed his swing,
doesn't hit the ball quite as far, but now doesn't
(04:05):
strike out. Twenty twenty five. Josh Allen shouldn't exist. You
should not be that gifted, that fast, that talented jump
over linebackers. Yeah, he never throws interceptions because usually I mean,
you know, if you have a great voice, you're singing
in the car, you're singing in the shower, you may
be singing professionally, you want to show it off. Usually
six six guys with that engine and that ability, I mean,
(04:30):
they are letting it rip. Josh get You get all
the upside and you get none of the downside. I mean,
listen to this. His last twelve games, including the playoffs,
thirty total touchdowns, one pick that makes no sense. His
ability to control, you know, have the discipline to not
(04:51):
just I'm gonna let it rip and throw it through
that coverage is unbelievable. And last night it may not
be its visually impressive, but he is so much sure now,
he is so thoughtful, he is so paced but you
still get the big engine. And he talked about like
last night, you're like, oh, why why isn't Buffalo putting
(05:13):
them away? It's a different Buffalo team. The previous iteration
of Buffalo was scoring thirty five points. They couldn't beat
the Chiefs like it was winning a lot. It wasn't
winning the games that mattered. To win the games that matter,
you can't turn it over. Gott to pull back the
horsepower a little bit. Here's Josh after.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
I think there's obviously times throw games where the situation
dictates you to maybe put the get the pedal down
a little bit more, and there's sometimes where it's like, hey,
just take it easy, relax. I wouldn't say played the
long game, but just understanding where you're at, you know,
within the situation of the game, and not trying to
force anything. You know, we saw that tonight, just kind
(05:58):
of staying same as calm as possible, you know, and
just being prepared for any situation that we were going
to be in.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
They look a little bit more like Philadelphia, don't they.
They just kind of squeeze you, squeeze you and squeeze
you and eventually win the turnover battle. And make two
or three big plays late. That doesn't mean Josh can't
be a superhero. He can't went on the Cape, but
he is right now. This is a super Bowl team.
I don't love their defense, but not every Brady team
(06:26):
had a great defense. You remember that Nick Foles super Bowl.
I mean not every team that gets to that game
has a great defense. We all have to give a
little once you pay the quarterback a lot of money.
But what you're seeing now feels like a super Bowl
winning team. So smart horsepower without the mistakes. So I
was I was reading a tweet this morning from Mike Renner.
(06:50):
He said, the tragic thing going forward for the Dolphins
is that Tua's cap number is higher than Josh Allen's
the next four years. I think you could there's ways
to lower that. You could, you know, you restructure it,
you could cut him whatever. But it is interesting watching
two A last night, is that NFL general managers got
(07:12):
into this weird space for about ten years where they
convinced themselves size doesn't matter for quarterbacks. From twenty seventeen
or twenty twelve to twenty twenty three, Russell Wilson, Johnny
Manziel to a Bryce Young, Kyler Murray. Yeah, how are
they all doing well? What about Jalen Hurts? The Eagles
(07:32):
throw the ball less than every team in the league
since the by last year they throw even less. The
organization is telling you, yeah, we don't want our smaller
quarterback having to look over six to seven offensive a
lineman and throw. We're gonna throw about twenty three times
a game. We're gonna roll a mountain throw. Even when
we throw it's not downfield now, it's a slant here,
a slant there. So don't give me Jalen Hurts. The
(07:54):
Eagles have moved off him, becoming a traditional pocket quarterback.
You want to know who is winning a lot of
games right now? Big tall Justin Herbert and Mahomes and
Allen and Jordan Love and Lamar Jackson and Golf and
Matt Stafford and Joe Burrow. Yes, offensive lineman now are
six seven and a half. Regularly, size is always mattered.
Drew Brees is the exception. He is the outlier. He
(08:17):
is the only small quarterback who had sustained greatness for
fifteenth great years. And Sean Payton was some of that,
but mostly he was the most obsessed with accuracy quarterback
of my life, Drew Brees is the outlier. Size didn't
matter that much. But when I watched two in Josh Allen,
every single time I watched them, I always think the
(08:38):
same thing. And when they play each other on the
same field, Y'ah'm gonna take the bigger, stronger guy to
a smaller doesn't have a big arm. Don't want him
in windy weather. You got to protect him. So I mean,
I guess again the thing that size matters in all sports.
I mean, you could probably have a six eleven and
a half jockey, but it would look weird and doesn't
(09:00):
feel right on that horse. I think your quarterbacks have
to be about six to one up. I'm sorry, I'll
take the bigger, stronger guy. And by the way, Tua's
record against winning teams in his career as ten and twenty.
Those winning teams overwhelmingly have bigger, stronger quarterbacks with better arms.
So there's a reason boxing in UFC have weight categories.
(09:24):
So it's nothing against to it. But I think that
interception he threw he's been playing football for too long
in Hawaii, at Alabama and Miami. I think that interception
he throw to that linebacker. Honestly, I don't think he
saw him. Here's Tua on that game ceiling interception by
the Bills.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
I thought I was in rhythm and timing of the play,
seeing the flat defender go over the top of Jalen.
Jalen's turning around. I think that was really good play
by the defender. And you know, had had some color
in my face trying to maneuver the the throw as well.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
But I.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
Ten out of ten times if we're looking at that
same thing, you know, I think I'd still try to
work that timing of hitting that that spot. And I
think the linebacker made a great play on that.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
I don't I think he threw it right to him
because he didn't see him. That was not a great play.
It was thrown right to him. And there's things I
like about to h but don't tell me. Size doesn't
matter jockey's quarterbacks. I want one small, one big, just
the way it is, Jamact. I think one of the
more interesting games this weekend Blazing five to fifty minutes
(10:41):
from now. I like mine pigs Well, I liked him
last week. I think one of the more interesting games,
and I think it's going to be a shootout is
the Cowboys and the Bears. It's going to be really,
really entertaining because neither one of these defenses has their
act together. Jalen Johnson, I think is still out for
the Bears, their best corner. And when you let go
of Micah, I mean, we've seen Micah has added to
the Packers. You eliminate him from the Cowboys and you
(11:04):
don't get as consistent the playmaking off the edge. So
I am fascinated by the Cowboys and the Bears, and
I've got I've got The Bears don't have to win,
but I will have a definitive opinion Sunday night if
(11:24):
something doesn't happen. Yeah, I'm sure.
Speaker 5 (11:27):
Hey to go back to that Tua interception real quick.
I don't know if they can roll the footage, but
Colin something you didn't discuss. If you watch the right
guard on that play, he gets destroyed at the line
of scrimmage by ninety six. Tua has zero time at
all to analyze anything. He's got under a second if
you watch that swim move, and so he's got to
make his first read and of course the linebacker read it.
(11:48):
I actually, if you watch it, I don't think that
plays totally on Tua. I know it's tough to defend
him and you want to go to the height, but
his offensive line has been terrible. Every year he's been awful.
Go look at their rankings according Pro Football Focus. Yeah,
and you really can't win without one.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
Well, he can't win without one. Josh Allen did not
have a great offensive line. He had a great left tackle,
but Josh Allen's early OH lines were not great. And
by the way, Patrick Mahomes has gotten the Super Bowls
with average offensive lines. Joe Burrow's gotten super bowls with
bad offensive lines. He can't. He has to have I
(12:26):
don't know that he can.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
You're saying you would consider dumping to a like the
Russell Wilson thing in Denver, just take the dead.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Cap hit and move on. Well, I think if you
cut him the first of all, I think he'd have
a market. Absolutely would have a market. I would put
him in a Dome team. I think he would have
a market. I think again, I don't think two is
a bad quarterback, but you have to have certain things
for him to be a playoff quarterback. Joe Burrow went
on the road with an atrocious offensive line and was
(12:54):
a play away from winning a Super Bowl Joe Burrow
six three and a half. So there are things with
a small quarterback you have to have work Shallen Burrow.
I mean, look at Mahomes. Mahomes gets to Super Bowls
with bad receiving course, shaky offensive lines, bad left tackles,
and no running game. Right, Yeah, he's not Mahomes of Burrough.
And I think one of the truer elements is that
(13:16):
Burrough's different than Mahomes, is different than Alan, that's different
than Herbert. They're all big, strong men. They're all big,
strong men of size.
Speaker 5 (13:23):
The only guys I can find who have been under
six to two to win Super Bowls Jalen Hurts, Russell Wilson,
Drew Brees, now Joe Montana, depending where he's listed, sixty one,
sixty two.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
But you're right, not a lot of them in the
last forty years. But I mean, just it's just it's
the I'm not anti smaller quarterback. Baker Mayfield's not big.
What I'm saying is this idea for a decade that
it didn't matter. Yeah, it does. Bryce Young feels small
and Kyler Murray from the pocket consistently you don't get it,
(13:54):
and the Eagles are acknowledging with Jalen Hurts prefer we
be a run team. They're running sixty two percent of
the time. He has more tush push attempts than balls
thrown downfield this year, and that's by design. Coming up next,
what Caleb Williams does have to do against the Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
I was telling guys this morning, if you go on
academic probation in your first college semester, you don't necessarily
barely need all a's in your second semester. But you
better improve your focus. You gotta get b's and B pluses.
So this weekend, Caleb Williams does not have to beat
the Cowboys. It's not a must win game. It is, however,
a must perform game. We can't have another great first
(15:19):
drive followed by garbage the rest of the game. And
right now the Bears are six and twenty four on
third and fourth down after the first drive. That's terrible.
So Dallas's defense gave up four hundred and fifty passing
yards to thirty seven year old Russell Wilson behind a
shaky Bear Giants ole line. Okay, I said this, I've
(15:40):
been consistent. I said this all August. I said, nine
and eight is generous. Look at their schedule. Packers are great, Lions,
Vikings could be better. Nine and eight was generous, I said,
I don't get caught up on that. Eight and nine
could end up being great because he improves one of
the things I wanted to see improvement. What did I
(16:02):
talk about in August? One thing? It wasn't about wins
or passing yards or touchdowns. Reduction of sacks, reduction of hits.
Just get rid of the ball more quickly. Yeah, the
problem is that hasn't happened. Because if you look at
Caleb this year, take away the opening drives where he's
(16:23):
on script quick release, the other twenty drives, this is horrible.
Fifty four percent completion percentage and a seventy seven passer rating.
Why because he's holding on the ball for three point
two eight seconds, longest by a long shot over most
(16:44):
of the league. Most of the league got things out.
Two seven three point three is a law at to
half a beat. So you look at those twenty drives,
that's not I don't want to hear about. It got better.
I mean, I know ro Madonze wasn't built in a day,
but they were getting better. They were making progress. They
were laying bricks every day. I got to see something
(17:05):
because all Ben Johnson talked about in the offseason, what
did he talk about. He wanted to give Caleb more structure,
more timing, make it easier, and he wanted harder, more
intense practices. Three weeks in he's complaining about both. So
I'm going to have a definitive judgment and opinion Sunday night,
(17:28):
six thirty pm Central Time. If the drives after the
first drive, if he's not getting rid of the ball sooner.
I said this about the Steelers. I don't care that
you're beating Joe Flacco. There's five games for the Steelers
this year. I care about you were ten and three
last year, then down the stretch owing five against the
(17:49):
good quarterbacks. I don't care about the first drive. You
can do that. I don't even necessarily care about the
w But I don't want to hear about this. Well.
I mean, very good on the first drive. I've seen
that you passed that test. I mean that's starting the
(18:10):
car and pulling out your driving test when you're seventeen
years old. I want to see parallel parking. I want
to see in rush hour. I gotta see something here. Yeah,
you can start the car, back it up, and go
on your way. Congrats. I need more than that. I mean,
almost every quarterback first drive is semi successful. You pick
up a couple of first downs. So this, Dallas Stephens
(18:32):
is not good. You're at home. Dallas is coming off
an overtime game, which is always an advantage statistically to
the team playing the team that played the overtime game.
Chiefs against the Giants, edge Chiefs Bears against the Cowboys,
Edge Bears fewer snaps last week. So here's Ben Johnson
(18:54):
on his quarterback heading in two week three against Dallas.
Speaker 7 (19:00):
He's got total control of the field. The fact of
the matter is, we're not going to go week one,
week two, week three, all the way through seventeen just
like that. We're going to have some hiccups along the way,
and we're I'm aware of that. But he's approached. His
approach to the game right now is what it needs
to be. He's he's coming in, he's doing the work. Eventually,
(19:21):
these results will start speaking for themselves.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
Okay, six thirty Central Sunday night. I gotta see something now, Okay,
because through two weeks you're on academic probation. I gotta
see a little focus. I gotta see a little more
than tapping the keg with all the boys at Senior's froggies. Okay,
I got you. Gotta give me some positives here. I
(19:45):
need to see his studying a little bit because you
take those first two drives out. The thing we talked
about all off season was get rid of the ball
three point two eight seconds worst in the league with
a timing rhythm coach with upgrades to the old line
with a very solid receiving core J Mickle the news,
(20:11):
No no turns.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
This is the herd line news.
Speaker 5 (20:16):
Love a good keg tap reference on a Friday, you know,
and it's perfect for the first story, Colin because the
Kansas City Chiefs fans they will turn to drinking if
the If the Chiefs lose to the Giants this weekend.
In Week three, the good news is the Giants defense
just gave up forty to Dallas last week. Here's Mahomes
on whether Chiefs mentality is entering week three just.
Speaker 8 (20:38):
Being O and two, There's there's more urgency than even
last week. I mean, and I felt like we were
a very urgent last week. So definitely new territory as
far as being O and two, but knowing that we'll
get the guys for it, you know, we have the
mindset of going out there and being even better. And
so in my eyes, it looks like it's like, what
an opportunity, What an opportunity to prove who we are
as the Kansas City Chiefs is coming back from O
(20:59):
and two and trying to build up to win a
big football game on Sunday Night football and try to
get our season going in the right direction from there.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
That number to me feels large. That's why I stayed
away from it. Like once in a while the Bears
Dallas game, like, how is that a pick him? That's weird?
And this game, Kansas City doesn't blow anybody out. They
can't score big points, they have no run game, and
the Giants have a great defense at front. I don't
get the number, So it tells me Vegas sees something
because I don't get this, don't. I don't take Kansas
(21:27):
City minus six against anybody, especially on the road. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
Yeah, there's just not a good football team right now.
And Patrick Mahomes is you know, last year was the
worst season of his career. He's below that to start
this season, colin fifty eight percent completions, six point five
yards per ten. They have no downfield action, you know,
over the weekend, you know, and the Chiefs are struggling.
I posted Patrick Mahomes' stats, and I'm sure you remember
(21:51):
the movie Black Panther. There here the Mahome stats on
the screen. Wow, the team's stats. But in the movie
Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan takes down Black Paance Anther
and he's like, is this your king?
Speaker 1 (22:02):
Is this your king? And I wrote that on social media?
Is this your king?
Speaker 5 (22:05):
For Patrick Mahomes and all these Chiefs fans got angry
colin the reality right now, Patrick Mahomes is not playing
at a top ten quarterback level.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
And if you go back to the super Bowl, I
know it's just three games. He just hasn't been good.
I suggested this morning to the staff. There was almost
a mutiny. I said, if I was going to build
a small pyramid of quarterbacks, Josh Allen over the last
year to year and a half is the best quarterback
in this league. Why would there be a mutiny over there?
That's just when reality we're like oh, And I was like,
(22:33):
I mean, it wasn't outrage, they didn't there wasn't a strike,
it was it wasn't a union activity, but it was.
It's kind of like with Mahomes, like no, no, no, no,
the last year and a half, Josh is the best
quarterback in this league. But that's not even close better.
I don't think it is close. The difference is and
this knock is Josh has beaten the chief several times.
(22:55):
It's just in the regular season, whereas Lamar that's been
he can't get past that. And Josh has also been
good in the postseason. Don't kid yourself. Josh hasn't been
the issue in the postseason. Their defense has. So my
takeaway right now is Mahomes is not the best quarterback
in the league. He may end up having the best career,
but he's not the best quarterback in the league right now.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
Yeah, there were years where Tom Brady was excellent and good,
and they want to see he wasn't the best quarterback
in the league.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
Brady was by far and away the best quarterback in
the league the two primary years with Randy Moss. It
wasn't close, right the year he won the Atlanta Super Bowl, Edelman,
I mean, again, Tom was very, very good, But that's
when you started to see the emergence of a lot
of young quarterbacks in the last couple of years of
his career. Over like, Tom's the most profound, but the
best quarterback. I mean, when Mahomes came in, we were like, Okay,
(23:40):
that's the best quarterback. So if we're so easy to
do that with Mahomes and Brady at the end of
Tom's career, then in the prime of Mahomes' career, why
can't we say right now, Josh is better. You get
more upside, fewer mistakes.
Speaker 5 (23:52):
Yeah, the numbers. Trust the numbers over your emotions. We
know you love Patrick Mahomes and he's a great guy,
and he's a great family man, and he's won a
lot of Super Bowls, but right now he's not playing
good football. Look at this, most consecutive games with fewer
than thirty points. Kansas City Chiefs are in the same
categories the Raiders, the Saints, the Jags make The Jets
(24:13):
aren't even on that list. They score thirty in Week one. Okay,
so yeah, anyways, let's move on to that big game
Sunday on Fox Rams at Philadelphia, battle of two and
zero teams. I know that the playoff game was close
last year, but we keep forgetting how Saquon had three
hundred and two yards in the regular season meeting. I
(24:34):
think he had three carries over seventy yards in that game.
Jared Verse talked about how the Rams defense has to
flip the script.
Speaker 9 (24:42):
In the face. Two weeks we've limited the explosive plays
by a huge amount. Obviously, Philly's a Devin team and
a eight team we faced so far. You know, everybody's
just got to do their job. They're one of eleven
every now and then, you know, it might be ten
of eleven, and that's when we become dangerous. Saquan's are
very good back. If you don't, if everyone's on the
same page, he can damage you.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
Yeah, that guy is about starting this year, is about
to go on a run for about a decade to
be the best defensive player in the year.
Speaker 5 (25:07):
Oh, very good, little hyperbole this week. Jim Harbaugh the
best coach ever, Jared versus best defender, perfect quarterback versus
really really good. Okay, let's Michael Parsons is still breathing
right now? Right have we checked on him in Green Bay?
Come on, Michael Parsons is totally dominant right now. Coward,
(25:29):
by the way, still three and a half for this game.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
I don't get it. I don't get it. And you
know that we're not scoring and the Rams defense is
arguably the best in the league. I don't get the number.
Speaker 5 (25:38):
So you know some of these public Hey, the public
is eighty two percent on the Texans all that stuff.
I saw one where the public is eighty percent on
the Rams. A public dog is usually one of these
be careful as a public.
Speaker 1 (25:50):
They don't know anything. The public last year and as
you know this last year, the fans, the public beat
the wise guys, right, but that was last year.
Speaker 5 (25:59):
These first two weeks are get eviscerated, Colin, They're getting destroyed.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
I'm on the Rams. I'm pot committed. Go Rams. Final story.
We've got some breaking news.
Speaker 5 (26:08):
The Washington commanders just announced Marcus Mariota will be starting
this weekend Sunday, one pm against the Raiders. Marcus Mariota,
former Raider Raider, former Chip Kelly quarterback at Oregon.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
So Chip Kelly obviously.
Speaker 5 (26:26):
The new OC with the Raiders, Jayden Daniels, Like we predicted.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
This what Tuesday? No, I think this is a I
think this is a very good game. I think obviously
you could take a touchdown away. You know, it's Washington's
not going to score in the thirties, so they're not
going to be as lethal offensively. But I do think
for short periods of time, defenses rise when the star
quarterback is out. Now, I don't think you can do
it for a month, but the Washington defense, knowing they
(26:53):
don't have Jayden Daniels, will probably play a very spirited
football game, and I still like Washington very close. I
think for a week Washington will be fine. I don't
think you can go a month without Jayden. You can
go a Sunday without him again for a team that's
trying to find their way offensively, Genti Gino protection. I
still like Washington.
Speaker 5 (27:13):
Yeah, and remember Marcus Mariota has had a bunch of
first team reps this week because the injury was last
Thursday to day.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
By the way, if you take out the injuries, he
was physically reckless, not necessarily throwing the ball, he was
sometimes physically reckless. Marcus can play. I think he got
to the playoffs with the Titans. Wan like Marcus couldn't play.
It's like Joe Flacco. There's a reason he's still hanging
around Carson Wentz. People think he can play.
Speaker 5 (27:36):
So let me ask, remember how Winston and Mariota went
one two in the draft.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Who would you say had the better career out of
those twom Well, Winston had a lot of touchdown passes
and come on a lot of mistakes, take sixes. He's
like the career leader or whatever. It's almost a wash.
I would maybe lean Mariota because I think he won
a playoff game. Maybe Marcus Mariota has a very good reputation.
(28:01):
He's a really nice guy. People like him. It's just
one of those things, you know, we talk about this.
Odd was talking about Ryan Fitzpatrick this morning on X.
Ryan Fitzpatrick wasn't good enough to be a build the
franchise around him. Ryan Fitzpatrick's the only quarterback in league
history that had three straight games of over four hundred
passing yards. Like Ryan Fitzpatrick. Yeah, could play. He didn't
(28:22):
have a huge arm, but he was tough, resilient. He
could throw a we could and he'd do fitz magic.
Like Marcus Mariota, had a lot of good performances. He
was a very talented guy. I'm leaning Washington, but I
got nothing on this game. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (28:36):
Raiders are Remember Raiders are coming off Monday night football
and travel against arrested Washington team.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
So there's a world where Washington beats them. That makes
their brains in. But we'll see that. Jay Mack with
the news.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
Herd Line News.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
We've got good stuff today, Top of the Hour, Blazing
five Even now. Jamack usually doesn't see my picks before
I make him, but DUT's not get two into the details.
But Jamack inadvertently accidentally saw my picks today. And I
don't like to give out my secrets early. I know
when I'm stealing any of my picks. But he even
(29:17):
even Jmax said, yeah, I like your pixes. We're in
a lot of agreement.
Speaker 5 (29:22):
Usually, I think we're like ninety four percent when we
both agree on it.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
No, we're pretty high now. But it's pretty good though. Yeah,
we agree, it's pretty good. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon Easter not a em Pacific.
Speaker 5 (29:34):
Tomorrow, another huge day of college football is on Fox,
and it all kicks off with Big Noon Saturday as
Texas Tech takes on Utah.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
Then at three.
Speaker 5 (29:44):
Thirty Eastern North Carolina takes on UCF, followed by Arizona
State versus Baylor. Finally, at eleven, Michigan State battles USC.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
It all begins with Big Noon Saturday on Fox. So
Saturday Night, Jmack ten o'clock Michigan State USC at the College.
So I have to take a nap, A huge hour
and a half nap in the afternoon, so I can
stay up till one thirty in the morning to watch
the fourth quarter. Now the game will be over early
third quarter. But the point being is.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
Now, hold on, let me reach for my violin here.
It feels so bad you have to take a nap
on a Saturday.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
Geez. So the Bears Cowboys game is interesting. I will
nobody wants to be called an elitist, but I am
a quarterback elitist. First of all, we're all elitists at
some level. I don't care if it's golf. Some guys
don't like the golf on public courses. Some guys won't
drive certain trucks. Everybody's got something. I don't confuse elitists
(30:45):
with standards. But I am a quarterback elitist. I like
certain traits, size, durability, big arms. I am a quarterback elitist.
There are traits I like. And Dak I had a
couple surgeries. He doesn't throw the most aesthetically pleasing ball.
His size normal. It's fine, it's normal. He's not exceptional
(31:08):
in terms of size athletic ability. But where Dak is
great is that the Cowboys beyond the avalanche of media
coverage and scrutiny it takes to be a cowboy quarterback
star in the helmet, des Zeke, Jerry Micah Now, George Pickens,
lot of higher maintenance people around him. And all Dak
(31:30):
does with three different coaches, none of which you loved
any of them, Jason Garrett, Mike McCarthy, Brian Schottenneimer. And
Dak comes out every year and he's on pace to
do it again, to get a passer rating at about
ninety eight ninety nine complete sixty seven percent of his throws,
give you about thirty touchdowns, ten picks, and win double
(31:52):
digit games. That's what it looks like to me. And
I was thinking about this this morning, and Dak is
the kid in the family that sort of gets ignored
because he's never needy, he's never doing the wrong thing,
and parents pay attention to the toxic kid. They always
in trouble kid, the kid that's irresponsible. Dak is the
(32:17):
kid you make executor of the will. Dak is the
responsible kid. And everybody listening to my show on radio
that is that kid in their family. You're the responsible one.
There's always a reality when you're the responsible kid, and
it's almost never acknowledged. By the other kids or even
(32:38):
your parents, everybody else. You accept all the burdens of
people around you, and Dak accepts all of them. And
once again, I watch him through two weeks and I'm like,
he'll never get credit for it. He doesn't have the
arm couple surgeries. He's not the most athletic guy. Dak
(32:58):
has become one of the mental least strongest players in
this league. You can throw injuries at him, the pandemic
at him. I remember during the BLM stuff in America,
there's a lot of controversy. You can throw dez Adam
Zeke at him, Micah at him, ugly losses, the Eagle
semi dynasty. He pops up every year with a different
(33:20):
coach and gives you the same numbers passer rating ninety eight,
ninety nine complete, sixty seven percent, gonna win ten plus games,
thirty TV's ten picks. So I am. I am a
quarterback trait elitist, and I admit that. And because of that,
I've never been wowed by Dak Prescott. But I'll tell
(33:41):
you this, as he's aged, not only do I totally
respect him, I'm starting to appreciate him. I mean, I
came into the season, I'm like, that is not the
head coach I would have hired. And Dak looks great again,
and he's had to endure and deal with all this
toxicity around him, and he's the kid that just gets
(34:03):
good grades. Now mows Delawn does the stuff the parents
want and gets ignored mostly because he's not toxic and
he's not high maintenance. I just think he looks unbelievable
through the first two weeks. I couldn't believe what I'm
watching a Troykman this week on Dallas Radio on DAK.
Speaker 10 (34:24):
I love Dak. There's nothing I'd rather see than see
him go on and win a Super Bowl and win
multiple Super Bowls and you know, win more than me
and Roger and all of us combined if possible, because
he's that type of guy, and he represents himself and
the organization and really our city so well.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
He really does. I was thinking about this, So the
Bill's Josh Allen broke Patrick Mahomes record is the fastest
guy to get three hundred career touchdowns and stay with
me on this four or five minute story, but he's
becoming a little Josh Allen. The Leonardo DiCaprio of twenty sixteen.
(35:04):
So we all knew DiCaprio was great. He was an
all timer, and we all know Josh is an all timer.
But it wasn't until you know, like The Revenant, until
Hollywood said, okay, you get the Oscar, and that's Josh
allen Is. He now has a running game, He now
has three legitimate tight ends. He no longer jumps over linebackers.
(35:28):
And my hunch is, despite all the stats, early Super
Bowl sixty this year will be his Revenant. It will
be his moment. Leonardo DiCaprio, by the way, he didn't
win an Oscar, but he was carrying the Titanic. He
was caring Wolf of wall Street. He was jumping over linebackers.
He catched me if you can, very Leonardo DiCaprio centric.
(35:53):
But it wasn't ironically, until he talked Less that Hollywood
finally said he's the best actor in the world. It
wasn't until Revenant, and we were all in awe of
Leonardo DiCaprio jumping over linebackers, wolfel wall Street, titank. We
(36:16):
were in all of him at the end, Where's the trophy?
And we were similarly in awe of Josh Allen four
hundred yard games literally out running safeties, running over people,
jumping over people. He didn't do that as much anymore.
So my Super Bowl prediction on February eighth, Josh Allen
(36:40):
j Mack will officially become Leonardo DiCaprio in Revenant. Here
is Josh Allen on improving to three and zero.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
Were obviously doing our job going want to know each week,
still a lot to learn from, a lot to grow,
a lot of room for growth in this in this group,
a lot of young guys, but guys are stepping up.
There's been some guys down with injuries, and guys are
stepping up and making some big time plays for us,
especially on the defensive side of the ball. Yeah, I
mean it's a it's a close unit, that's you know,
(37:18):
jeeling together really well right now. And I got to
keep find ways to win football games.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
You know, I was thinking about this, how lucky is
the NFL And the NFL doesn't get credit for this.
Dads get credit for this, parents get credit for this,
and the players do. Think of the best quarterbacks in
the league right now, like Lamar Jackson, Mahomes, Josh Allen
Justin Herbert, Jalen Hurtz, Joe Burrow. Just think think of
(37:45):
the top quarterbacks in the league. They're all great guys,
like they're humble. I mean, these guys are worth three
and four hundred million dollars. They're in their twenties. I mean,
guys on bitcoin that are still renting are unlikable. Yeah
on the internet follow x for five minutes after a
good Bitcoin day. I mean, these guys are worth hundreds
(38:07):
of millions. They're stars. Could Josh Allen be more likable
or Jalen Hurts or Dak Prescott. It's unbelievable. The NFL
superstar players are such likable, relatable, cool guys. Congrats to
the kids, Congrats to the parents. Mom or dad are both.
But when I watched Josh Allen, I'm like, can you
(38:28):
imagine being this rich? You seen his wife having this
much talent and like being coachable, reflective, smart, and as
I just said, the Revenant as of February eighth. So
I watch them, and I watch one of the things
about Josh Allen he doesn't jump over linebackers like he
(38:50):
used to. But when you play this way and you
don't turn the ball over, that was always a little
bit of Aaron Rodgers in Mahome secret sauce. I get
all the upside, I don't get any of the downside.
I mean Manning threw picks elways through picks. Montana threw
him name it threw them. Frady threw some, not many.
But it was like Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers. It's like, man,
(39:10):
you don't you get thirty five touchdowns, you get like
six picks. I mean for Josh Allen to not I
mean in his what was that thing? The last twelve
games thirty touchdowns, one pick. I mean, I mean he
only and here's the air thing. They've got nice weapons
everybody eight they got nine guys touched the ball. They
have three good tight ends. James Cook I read only
(39:32):
one time all night did they attempt to pass over
ten yards? Remember we we thought Stefan Diggs was the answer. Oh,
we're gonna throw downtown. We're gonna be a big playoffense.
And with Josh Allen, they were like, no, no, no, no, no, no,
we're not gonna do that. We're not gonna throw downtown
as much. We're gonna have tight ends. A good run game.
You know, guys, in the slot we can get the
(39:53):
ball to and then Josh has to peel off a
great run about three to four times a game. Yeah,
last twelve games including the playoffs, three thousand ys thirty
touchdowns on a pick. I just hope everybody gets what
a good guy, what a story. You're watching history. Sometimes
it's obvious, like sometimes, oh, you broke the all time
blank record. This is history, Like what you're watching here
(40:15):
doesn't happen. You may never see thirty touchdowns one pick
in a twelve game stretch. Ever, in what's considered the
better conference, the AFC. All right around the corner, J
Matt got a sneak peek. You may be changing his picks.
Little envy. I sense the blazon five, top of Hour
(40:37):
two and a Friday. I can't wait
