Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Oh do we have a show today? It is Friday.
What a night of sports. God bless American and what
it grants us. Dodgers, Phillies, all time finish, Eagles, Giants.
I was saying to myself last night, I'm watching them.
Thank you. I'm gonna leave with the Dodgers. I'm watching
that game. Yeah, the Giants, Eagles will come back and win.
(00:47):
And then I'm like, oh oh, we got a story
in New York. Oh my, oh my, Jamact blazing five
and one hour off a winning week. We both had
good week. Not a good last night, good week week.
Last night I told you, I told you to beware
last night. These division games are crazy. I want to
start with this. Last night was not about the Eagles.
(01:10):
Saquon average five yards of carry, season high in yards.
AJ Brown got touches it was not about the Eagles.
That's not what last night. Well, I'm not gonna open
the show criticizing the Eagles. Last night was about the
New York Giants. They have found their franchise quarterback. It's
gonna be bumpy. You're gonna have weeks like last week
and you're gonna have last night if they can keep
(01:31):
him healthy, confident, athletic, slippery, big boy NFL throws. That
is an NFL franchise quarterback feet arm confidence. Once you
get that right, Giant fans, such like when you found Eli,
gets much easier to build the roster. I mean, the
Giants last night are missing their number one receiver and
the number two receiver and they scored thirty four points.
(01:52):
I know you all loved Obj and you love Malik
Neighbors Come Mbra though, that's icing the cake. It's Camp
Skataboo and Jackson Dart because of the way they play.
They're tough, they're young, they're physical in the Northeast because
of the weather. Tyreek Hill is not winning your titles.
(02:15):
Your left tackle is your star back January. Football is
not decided by the fastest guys. Jackson Dart's tough Camp's
Scataboo's tougher. If you can keep Andrew Thomas the left
tackle healthy, you got your three guys. That's going to
be your future. So the New York Giants have not
(02:36):
had an offensive identity in a decade. In a decade,
and they decided a couple of weeks ago, let's start
the rookies. Let's let Jackson and camp Scataboo. It's their offense.
Since then, the Giants lead the NFL in first downs,
believe it or not. So it's not just the win
last night. It's not just the production, it's how they're
(02:58):
doing it. Is a Northeast physical football team. Go to
the Patriots dynasty. They never won when they were at
their flashiest with Randy Moss. Those were the years they
didn't win. They won early when they were tough physically,
and they were winning late when they had Edelman and
Brady and Gronk and always great on third down. Giants
(03:19):
were amazing on third down last night. A lot of
those fast teams aren't amazing on third down. They're just
fun to watch. Again, I like Malik Neighbors. Obj was fun.
That is icing the cake in Northeast football. When the
Steelers were great. It was defense and Big Ben, the
best Peyton Manning Colts team ever, could run the ball
(03:39):
and play defense. Aaron Rodgers title with the Packers. They
actually ran the ball and had his best defense as
a Packer quarterback. That's Northeast football. So they decided to
start these guys week four. We're going to give the
kids the offense, and it looks different. There's an identity.
It's physical overflash. It is stakeover sizzle. There's nothing wrong
(04:02):
with a little sizzle. You can't build around it. So
that's last Night's not about the Eagles falling apart. I
can talked about that in thirty minutes. And once you
get the quarterback, once you find the quarterback, you can
then identify what you are. You can't do that without
the quarterback. Right right, Kansas City finds Mahomes. We're gonna
(04:23):
be clever, We're gonna be situational. We're because you have
a situational, brilliant quarterback who's really creative with a great
arm talent. So the Giants have just been swimming around
drafting guys, hitting on a lot of them on defense.
What are they last night? I'm like, oh, yeah, you
can build around that. That's an identity. If I told
(04:48):
you an hour before the game, one of these teams
is gonna score thirty four points, you would not have
picked the New York Giants, Giant fan wouldn't have picked
after that, Saints Debaucle and it's gonna be uneven, and
it's gonna be choppy, and you're gonna have bad weeks
because they're kids. But Brian dabol After saw what we
(05:08):
all saw.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
You go through some tough times. Sometimes you can get
stronger from it, or sometimes you can fold. I like
our guys, these young players. I have a lot of
confidence in these young players, the rookies. They got the
right mindset.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
They're tough. Northeast Football Championship Football. Find me, find me
the warm Weather dynasty in the NFL. Dolphins have never
had one, Carolina has never had one, Arizona's never had one.
Rams a big good, not a dynasty. Find me one.
(05:46):
Find me the warm Weather NFL dynasty. Marino and Don
Shula won Super Bowl one, Peyton manning Indy one to
one and is great. You look at the history of
the NFL, the Green Bays, the Kansas City, Seattle's mini dynasty,
Baltimore's greatness, Pittsburgh, New England, the Giants when they beat
(06:08):
Brady twice. What was it about that defensive front? That's
an identity I watched the Giants last night. Oh you can, Oh, okay,
you could put your arms around that and build around
what I watched last night. That one handed catch years ago.
That's just a moment. Okay, so last night. I mean
(06:29):
it was amazing about last night is you had seven
or eight of the best hitters in baseball and it
was eventually the bottom of the Dodgers' lineup that got
it going. But it was palpable. And the Dodgers do this.
They put so much pressure on your manager and your
pitching staff. And last night Orian Kirkians, a young pitcher
(06:54):
for the Phillies, super talented. Here's the moment, the crowd
on its feet, and this really talented kid couldn't rise
to the moment. No balls in a strike has breaks
his bat.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
Kirkering gotta find it, throws to the point, oh my goodness,
it throws it away, and the Dodgers have won.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
The Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
When Kirkering right, there, plenty of time to go to first,
I mean, plenty.
Speaker 5 (07:27):
Of time to go to first even though we bobbled this,
they just kind of in the moment panic.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Should have gone to first base. Right bouncer, boom, first base.
You're out. But that's what the Dodgers do. They get
in your head. I mean, O Tawi was one for
seventeen in the series, O Tawni, and they walked him
to load the bases in the seventh O Tawni, Betts,
Munsey Freeman, Edmund Tioscar Hernandez. Constant pressure. Dodgers didn't even
(07:57):
hit in this series. They didn't really hit in the series,
but they won. And it was the bottom of the
lineup that did it. You know, it's Keith k it's Monsey,
it's Edmund. It wasn't even the top of the lineup.
It's constant pressure. Then rokis Asaki came on and the Dodgers'
bullpen has been a problem all year, so they've moved
(08:19):
him to the bullpen to be the closer. Three innings
last night, untouchable. So the Dodgers are now in the
NLCS and you got Freddy Freeman and Otani hitting a
buck eighty twelve strikeouts. That's what the Dodgers are. We
talked about this with the Yankees. Yankees are home run reliant.
The Dodgers are reliant on no single player. Otawani. The
(08:41):
last two years, he has struggled in the postseason. I
mean last year it was Freddy Freeman in the World Series.
I mean earlier this year, Mookie Bets got sick, couldn't
hit in September. He's now on fire. It was the
bottom of the Dodgers lineup last night. So when you
play the Dodgers, and this is really true about all sports,
(09:03):
they put it's almost like KD Steph Clan Draymond remember,
for about three years, like pick your poison, Who's hot tonight?
There were games Draymond took over. There were games Klaye
Thompson hit six of eight threes. Who do you guard?
Who is it tonight? That's what it is with the Dodgers.
It was their young pitcher throwing one oh one, a
(09:28):
nasty splitter. It was the bottom of their lineup, and
it was the crowd. It was the crowd. It wasn't
O Tawny, it wasn't Freeman. It was the crowd and
the pressure and it's never ending, and they keep putting
it on you Here was Dave Roberts on the play
that sent the Dodgers to the NLCS. It's brutal.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
Obviously, they played great defense tonight, and you know, it's
one of those things that it's a PfP, a pitchers
fielding practice, and he's done it a thousand times, and
you know, just right there, he was so focused, I'm sure,
on just getting the hitter, and you know, just sort
of forgot, you know, the outs in the situation.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Yeah, you're not doing that against most teams in Major
League Baseball, but in that spot, against that team and
they're in your head, you lose yourself. The Phillies did,
and in the process lost their series. By the way,
you know, Otani and Freddie Freeman aren't the only one struggling.
Trade Turner struggled, Bryce Harper struggled, Kyle Schwarber a couple
(10:31):
of bombs, he struggled. So the Philly you get into
the postseason, I mean, think about all the great hitters,
Otani and Freeman, Trade Turner, Schwarbert, Bryce Harper, nobody, nobody's
hitting in the series. So it comes down to moments.
It comes down to base running. We talked about this
with the Yankees they are so beholden to the home run.
(10:53):
It's so much of its pitching, so much of it's circumstantial,
so much of its timing, so much is the bottom
of the lineup and base running. Dodgers could not depend
on the big bats in this series and still found
another way because this is what they do. I've said
this before. I think the Dodgers are the best run
sports organization in North America. Drafting, developing, free agency. They
(11:18):
just don't miss very often. Jay Meg, great show to
a blazing five top of the hour, Camp Scataboo's doing
flips in the end zone. He is fun man. Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (11:30):
Basically, Jackson Darts turning into Jeremy Lynn in New York.
He's a brush fire that everybody's excited about. If you
think he's your franchise quarterback, you got another thing coming.
Speaker 5 (11:39):
All right.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
He's a nice story, Colin, let's be real. Come on,
I think he's a little better than that. Oh okay.
Speaker 6 (11:46):
I love Jeremy Lynn during his time. It's awesome, But
I mean Dart is way too reckless on the script. Well,
he's gonna get murdered out there. He's got a Yeah,
I mean that's part of it. I think it's I mean,
remember Baker Mayfield in his second or third year in Cleveland,
he threw an interception. He tried to square up a
safety and it banged up his shoulder. Young players, they're raw.
(12:07):
I said this before though, before the season started. I said,
Jackson Dart was in college with Lane Kiffen for three years.
Lane Kiffin's coach in the pros. Lane's an elite offensive coach.
If you're with Lane Kiffen for three years in the SEC,
against those NFL level defenses, NFL players everywhere, you don't
need to sit for a year. This is not like
BYU football, you're a year starter. This is Jackson Dart
(12:32):
started in the SEC with Lane Kiffen for three years.
The Russell Wilson thing was nice. I think you saw
Brian Dable rushing to the tenth. He wanted Jackson Dart
on the field, and we said this start Jackson Dart.
When you play in the Big Ten, or you playing
the SEC and you're playing three years with a really
smart offensive coach, you don't need to sit. This is
(12:53):
not somebody from you know, a Mountain West Conference, a
one year with a defensive head coach Jackson darts ready
to play. And the great thing about that is you're
gonna find out by the way. Last weekend the Giants
had five straight possessions with a turnover, so it can
get really bad.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
They were fumbles some of them. And then last night
he was magic. So it's not like bow Nicks last
week in the first half awful, second half outstanding. So
it's not going to be linear. It's going to be
all over the map. But what you look for in
these moments with bo Nixon Denver, he'll make throws and
you're like, okay, that is a franchise quarterback throw. I
(13:29):
can remember watching Matt Ryan as a rookie and he
was facing the Bears and he threw a ball off
the left sideline one throw and I was like, yeah,
that's an He threw it between the corner and the safety.
And it was the first time I had watched Matt
Ryan out of Boston College and I said, oh, yeah,
that's a starting quarterback. I remember Cam Newton. I think
he played Arizona. Could be wrong. He went on the
road in Arizona. I didn't know if he'd work. He
(13:50):
was a great athlete. He made a throw against Arizona.
It was down the left sideline and you're like, yep,
that is a franchise quarterback. So you see, I absolutely
see a franchise quarterback. But it's not gonna be artistic.
Andrew Thomas doesn't play. The on line gets bad, like
so it's this idea. Brock, perty got a sit for
a year and learn this. Jackson Dart's like, bro the
(14:12):
old line's not much. Top two receivers are out. It's
the Eagles. Yeah, that was impressive. That's an impressive deniabley
that's Cake that's not icing, don't be Jay's one handed
catch is icing.
Speaker 6 (14:22):
How about the Amy can't wait for you to talk
about the Eagles. I mean out gained in every game
this season. Well, they had three hundred and fifty yards
that I didn't think. Zero points in the second half. World,
Now that's terrible defense.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
That's something else to talk about, and we will coming up.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
He's Mike Karmen, I'm Dan Bayern. We have a fantasy
football podcast called I Want Your Flex.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
That's right, Dan.
Speaker 7 (14:53):
Every week we're gonna scour the waiver wire to find
the pickups to turbo boost your fantasy lineup, sit starts,
fantasy football players rankings to get you ready to dominate
the competition.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Listen to I Want Your Flex with Mike Carmon and
meet Dan Byer on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts and
wherever you beat your podcasts. Five days ago, the Philadelphia
Eagles were four and oh. They had beaten the Cowboys,
the Chiefs, the Rams, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Five
(15:26):
days ago, the Philadelphia Eagles were undefeated and on top
of the world. As of last night, A J. Brown
can't remember if they just had a player's only meeting.
Speaker 8 (15:40):
What was behind that.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
I don't call them meeting the meeting them. I don't
know what you're talking about those guys. Did you ain't
talk to him, you were in a meeting on no
recall or.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
You just want oh boy, drip drip. The Philly Fawcett
has officially burst the Eagles offense in the second half
this season. We told you it was a problem. It's
like last or thirtieth in everything, yards yards of play,
three and out they lead the NFL three and outs.
(16:15):
How this is a coaching crisis, it's not a player crisis.
The defense now also a mess. Last year it was
number one in the NFL. Right now it's twentieth. So
what's happened? I mean, this is like what you saw
happen with the Chargers pre hardball. You're like, they got
good players. Why are we offul at everything? That's what's
happening here. And when and when the Chiefs are in crisis,
(16:39):
what do they do? Will they turn to Andy Reid
when the Eagles are in crisis? H ring ring, Howie Roseman,
can you help us? He can't. The roster stacked. So
after four ugly tush pushes they got outscored twenty one nothing.
And again it is they are fractured, they are fragmented.
(17:02):
It's not that they're I mean, they have talent. Last
night was their best offensive game in turny yards, turned
some yards. Saquan got almost five yards of carry. Goddard
and aj Brown between the two of them had like,
you know, like fifteen touches. Devonte Smith got looks. But
third down they're atrocious. Third down is the decision making down.
(17:24):
Third down the Giants were amazing. Brian dabol Jackson, Dart scataboo.
Third down giants were great. Philadelphia's got more talent. They
were atrocious. So they had five second half drives. You
had three punts, two turnovers. It's not a talent issue.
It is a coaching issue. The New York Giants with
a rookie quarterback beat you soundly, missing their top two
(17:48):
perimeter threats and Lane Johnson afterwards talked about, you know,
maybe possibly we shouldn't be this predictable. You know, there's flashes,
no score points.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
You know, it's about consistency, It's about you know, what's
the big play hits.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Let's keep going until we finish. But like I said,
we here we have spurts. But I think it's just
last year. Nick Sirianni, the coach of Philadelphia, when they
got into crisis, shaved his head. I don't know what
the next trick is, maybe a face tattoo, who knows.
I have no idea, But this is not about the
(18:30):
players they've got. Yes, I mean, yeah, why not let's
try something new. But it to me this is a
coordinator that maybe isn't quite ready to be a coordinator.
It's not working. Jmack with the news. No, no, this
is the Herdline News.
Speaker 6 (18:50):
Let's get started with the San Francisco forty nine ers.
Colin that listen, there's three and oh amazing, it's backup quarterback.
Amazing Jones starting while black pretty covers.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Now. I just checked the practice reports.
Speaker 6 (19:02):
Obviously today's a big one, but yesterday, no Purty at practice,
No Juwan Jennings, no Piersoll.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
It is insane.
Speaker 6 (19:08):
However, GM John Lynch says there's no quarterback controversy in
San Francisco.
Speaker 9 (19:15):
I do wholeheartedly believe that Brock is nothing but happy
for our team. He's working his tail off to try
to get back, and I think we all feel blessed
and fortunate that we found a guy to be our
backup this year who can go in and play like
a starter and earnest, tough, hard thought wins and Max's
doing a tremendous job.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
It's been fun. I think Kyle Shanahan is coach of
the year. You know, when fans, Eagle fans will be like, hey,
we got some injuries. Everybody the Niners said, hold my beer.
The whole offense is beat up. It's Fred Warner, rookies,
Robert Sala putting Bondo on that car. They are that
(19:55):
coaching staff is having an all time season because they are.
The other day I went down and looked at their
injury report online. It's not that they're just missing like
a slot corner. They're missing stars.
Speaker 6 (20:07):
Well, without Bosa, they had no pressure pressure against Stafford,
and he had an awesome game. You know, Kyvin Williams
doesn't fumble, that probably rams win. So I have some
concern about this game against the Bucks. But Chris Godwin
just popped up. He may not play this weekend. Remember
he returned, so that'd be no Godwin, no Evans.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
I don't know. I like the Niners. You're getting getting
a field. Guy. That's a stay away game. I said,
last great game. Well, it's a great game. I said
last night it was a stay away game. When the
Chargers play the Giants, I said, stay away game, Niners, Bucks.
I wouldn't be surprised with any outcome that those are
the games I'm staying away from.
Speaker 6 (20:43):
I'll say I know some some radio guys, TV guys
out there trying to make this a quarterback controversy.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Maybe one of them enjoying a purple shirt today. I
don't know. I don't think there's anything there. I think
they know. Brock is there. God, Brock is to God,
they're paying him. He's a gout. And Mac is solidly
the backup Mack right, Mac Jones right now today this
moment is the best backup quarterback easily in the league.
Speaker 6 (21:03):
But last year at this time, like Jake Browning was
the best backup court. And after a few games, I
know Mac has the pedigree.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
I hang on, all right, let's move on.
Speaker 6 (21:11):
Oh boy, this Bill Belichick stuff. It's snowballing in North Carolina, Colin.
So remember a bunch of stories popped up this week
about Belichick maybe the end one and done.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Well.
Speaker 6 (21:22):
Now there's a report that Belichick is trying to find
the leak. He is hunting down people looking for the leak.
Pat Welter a reporter from Raleigh who wrote a deep
dive on the status.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
So he's validating that the leak is largely true. Which
they're dysfunctional and there's angst in the program. I found
the league, by the way, it's called the Defense.
Speaker 6 (21:43):
Now.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
I found it. I watched the games on television. I
saw it.
Speaker 6 (21:46):
Yeah, so it seems like it's more than just one leak.
This is like, you know, a tsunami of How about.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Worry about the connectivity with your players and the game
plans and not worry about the leak.
Speaker 6 (21:57):
I wonder if people are getting worried about their jobs
in their future and that's why they're leaking stuff so
they can get out ahead of this and get their
next job.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
That's a good point. That's always why people leak stuff.
If you have it could be the White House, it
could be your house. If stuff's getting out, it's usually
concerns about job security and just security, financial security. So
when stuff gets splintered, people are leaked. You know, well
run businesses where people are happy, don't leak a law.
Speaker 7 (22:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (22:28):
Final story, Colin is the Cubs last night interesting game.
Remember we talked yesterday about their first inning strengths. Well
it happened again. Ian happ three run first inning home work,
got things started. Chicago never looked back. Six nothing win
over the Brewers. You were calling the Brewers the best
team in baseball like forty.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
Eight hours and now they're in trouble because I don't
know who they're starting.
Speaker 6 (22:50):
Yeah, so Chicago has turned it around last two games
plus seven run differential. Obviously two to zero batting averages
up ERA is down. Isn't an amazing what pressure does?
Speaker 1 (23:01):
Well? You watch Philadelphia and I hate to use the
word fold or choke, but like Philadelphia last night, bouncher
to the mound, throw the ball to first little league play,
you're watching Milwaukee shrink. Milwaukee swept the Dodgers this year,
led the National League in hits. They were a dominant
team and you're watching them shrink in real time.
Speaker 6 (23:23):
So you know who asked a little time who would
the Dodgers rather face for a better chance to get
to the World Series.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Probably the Cubs. Right, Well, here's the thing, the Brewers
are they Since the Dodgers have taken their phenom, the
young phenom, and put them in the bullpen, the Dodgers
should be the overwhelming favorite. I mean the only question
with the Dodgers. I mean their stars aren't hitting, and
they just beat a great Philadelphia team.
Speaker 6 (23:47):
I think every offseason I'm gonna bet the Dodgers to
win the World Series. They spend the most money, right,
and they had the best players and by the way,
well run organization. They had a major dilemma, and they
so mixed it. They take their young starter, twenty three
year old kid that throws a splitter that's unhittable. They
move him to the end, the back end the bullpen,
and what do you know, They've solved their issue. Now
(24:09):
they're gonna need somebody else. You can't you can't have
them go three innings night after night. But when you
watch the Dodgers last night, it's not that they want,
it's how they won. It's like the Giants won last night.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
That's not it. It's how the Giants won. Physicality quarterback Skataboo.
That's an identity. The Dodgers winning this series and none
of their stars hit like that's that is. And Philadelphia
is really good. This Philly lineup had the National League
hitting champ, one of the best ra starting staffs, Bryce Harper,
the home run champ. I thought Philadelphia was gonna win
(24:41):
the series. I thought they were gonna win games late
to the Dodgers' bullpen. So your Brewers, Mariners, it's in jeopardy. Tigers,
by the way, have the better pitcher going in there
deciding game. I'll tell you the Brewers and the Mariners
World Series call is in jeopardy. It just everything just
flipped in like the last forty eight hours. It's chaos. Yeah, God,
sports is great fun. I mean we could be in
(25:02):
the political business and be every all the time and
have grievance every day. No J Mack with the news,
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
herd Line News. God, it's just crazy. Last night, what
a night. I would pay good money to listen to
Philadelphia's sports talk radio this morning. That's a Barnyard musical,
(25:26):
so there's a lot of talk. Uh a Cam Scataboo
had three touchdowns, nineteen carries, almost one hundred yards, and
you know people are saying I was looking this morning online. Hey, hey, hey,
how did this guy fall to the fourth round? How
was he the eighth running back taken? Well, ask yourself this,
what is his comp A backflipping five to nine running
(25:48):
back that came from a conference that doesn't tackle. What
was his comp I mean out of high school, he
had to go to Sacramento State. I mean I watched
them at Arizona State. I thought he was kind of
a novelty. I thought he'd make the NFL. I didn't
think he'd be this. I mean Brock Purty seventh round.
I watched them at Iowa State. Bucky Irving, a great
running back for Tampa. Fifth round. Puka Nakoula fifth rount.
(26:10):
I watched Puka Nakua out of high school in Utah.
I watched them at Washington, I watched them at VYU.
I never thought Puka Nakulah was arguably the second or
third best receiver in the league. So I don't know.
An AFC's executive told Lance Zurline before the draft, quote,
you hear guys say I'm built different. Usually it's all talk.
(26:31):
This guy is built differently. He sees and plays the
game like a linebacker. So NFL general managers always ask
their scouting departments find me the comp. I used to
talk to Rich McKay about this, who now is the
president of the Falcons, when he was a GM, and
he said, I always asked, my guy, give me three comps.
Who is he in our sport? Because college football there's
(26:51):
a lot of guys like t Bow that aren't really
NFL players, the great college players. What's his camp? His
comp is in nineteen seventy four NFL fullback with speed,
so he didn't have one. It's it's jelly roll in music.
Did you see him the first time and think superstar?
Not everybody has a comp And the one thing I'll
(27:12):
say about him, the kid is really athletic. He had
a thirty nine and a half inch vertical case. That's
an NBA vertical, a thirty nine and a half inch vertical,
So at the combine, the kid is athletic. But I
watch a lot of college football. I watched him play
I don't know six ten times. I didn't think it
(27:34):
would be this. I mean, did Arizona State think he
would be that dominant when they got him out of
Sacramento State. He is one hundred percent raw energy and
it just works for an organization that was looking for
exactly that. And here is a cam after the win
(27:54):
being him.
Speaker 8 (27:55):
Do a lot of things on the side together, talk
a lot together about, you know, kind of getting this
turned around, not doing it on our own, but getting
everyone to buy in and continue to stay positive and
work to be better.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
You know that the franchise has been a losing franchise
the last couple of years, but that's not who we
are right now. We need to continue to build and
build and build each.
Speaker 8 (28:15):
And every day and have these guys with positive mindsets
and you know, get away from that losing mindset.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
Yeah, and I mean the truth is he is really
a unique physical player. He's five to nine backflipping, can
turn the corner thirty nine and a half inch vertical.
I watched him, I thought, you know, if he had
become t Bow, which is wildly popular because the nickname
(28:44):
and the style, but you're like, yeah, I just can't
quite turn the corner. In the NFL, I would have
been like, yeah, when they scored touchdowns last night, the
Eagles needed the push push they needed. Cam is that
he was scoring on the when he was getting hit
at the line. If he's not a member of the Giants,
they're having to have kickfield goals. I mean, he is
literally burrowing over three hundred and thirty pound guys. So
(29:06):
and I again, it's not just that he's good, it's
his style that matters. The Northeast is about toughness. The
weather gets I mean it's getting cold today in Chicago,
it's getting cold out East. You can't do it with
flashy wide receivers who get hurt all the time. You
gotta play I mean this play right there. I mean,
I mean, this kid, this is a Northeast football player,
(29:29):
and so like people say, I can't believe he was
the eighth quarter of the eighth running back drafted. Sometimes
you just don't know. George Kittle Hall of Famer, fifth round.
I watched Kittle at Iowa. I never saw that.
Speaker 6 (29:43):
Don't you think sometimes the whole who is the comp
Don't you think that can hurt players because then you're
forced to put him in a box. This is what
he is or what he looks like, or what he
can be. And I just I remember watching Scataboo in
the playoff. He was one of the best players on
the sty He rolled over text. Yeah, they couldn't stop him,
and you at that point, I don't need to come.
Kim's gotta Boo's my guy. That looks like a second
(30:03):
round pick to me. At worst, I thought he was awesome.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
Yeah. No, I'm not disagreeing with that, but I mean,
every there's a lot of smart gms, and I think
it's not only that he's working, but his value with
the Giants again Arizona State football last year, if I'd
have said, what is it, You've been like, I like
(30:27):
the quarterback, but it's a running back driven team. Right
now with the Giants, what do you say, I like
the quarterback, but it's a running back driven team. He's
one of those rare players. Adrian Peterson had some of this.
Derrick Henry took him a while. First two years. Dereck
Henry was like a borderline bust in the NFL. He's
a backup, so I think, like DeMarco Murray, it takes
some guy's time. Scataboo's not one of those guys. Scatabuu
(30:49):
walks in the door. His energy and his style and
his toughness and his athletic ability like popped in camp.
Everybody was like, whoa. It'll give the Giants credit. You know,
they wanted to get Wilson some starts. This team didn't
need a quarterback, they needed an identity. And it's like
Scataboo is that he did it to Arizona State and
(31:11):
he did it in the NFL. Like, if he's on
your team, he's going to drive the bus. I got
to ask about Dart because he's playing well. I got
to be I didn't see this coming from him because
I put him in a box. I said Alway's a
Lane Kiffin quarterback. He's Matt Carrall. Remember the Matt Corral
put up huge numbers, came to the NFL, hasn't really
done anything. I didn't see this from Dart.
Speaker 6 (31:30):
I mean, Colin, if you put Dart's highlight reel this
season and cam Ward, I mean, it's early.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
But Jackson Dart looks better so far. Would you agree? Well?
And I think all I think the Giants have more
good players. I have been on this. The guy little
Jordan Humphrey off a practice squad, which is the worst
nickname ever because there's nothing little about it. I think
six for you. But I think one of the things
I've said over and over about the Giants, and I
know they're not that interesting a team, but I've been
(31:56):
saying for years left tackle, offensive coach, elite defensive line,
they check a lot of boxes. They need to get
the offensive line upgraded, and they need another corner. But
the Giants have had players, and they've actually you know,
it's like when you watch the Giants, they've had moments
(32:16):
in the last couple of years. They just can't get
the quarterback right. So and once you get the quarterback right,
the game gets much easier for a GM. Everything kind
of falls into place.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon Eastern not a EM Pacific.
Speaker 6 (32:30):
Tonight on SOOX, Tarik Skooble takes the mound to lead
Riley Green and the Tigers against Cal Raley and the
Mariners in a winner take all Game five of the Alds.
Coverage begins at seven pm Eastern, four pm Pacific on Fox.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
Okay, for the record, very interesting college football weekend out west.
We've talked a lot of East coast this morning out
West Michigan at USC, Indiana at Oregon. Really interesting games.
I'm gonna tell you a lot about college football. The
playoff going forward very interesting. I like USC close and
(33:09):
Oregon will win. Indiana's got a really good quarterback, a
clever offense. They look deeper and better than last year
eye test, so I think the game is pretty close.
So we all know that Shoheo Tani is not only
our Babe Ruth, He's much better than Babe Ruth. Babe
(33:30):
Ruth wasn't pitching and hitting simultaneously at this level. Babe
Ruth didn't run like this, But as great as o
Tawny has been in the regular season as a Dodger.
He has struggled in the playoffs last year. In this year,
he's hitting two zho five this year he's four for
twenty seven with a ton of strikeouts. And so my
take is it's the Peyton Manning syndrome. He's too great
(33:55):
not to eventually be great, but he's putting a lot
of pressure on himself. Rory mcelroyd didn't win the Masters,
you know, until his seventeenth try. When a decade without
winning a major, Rory McElroy's too good not to eventually
break through. It is really really hard to hit in
the postseason. I mean Trede Turner, former Dodger, by the way,
(34:17):
won the National League Batting Crown. Trey Turner struggled in
this series. Clayton Kershaw best curve ball of this generation
is our Sandy Kofax. He's scuffed it in the postseason
in his prime scuffed it a little bit. So I
just think what happens is and you know a lot
of the old athletes didn't grow up with TikTok and
(34:37):
Instagram and this. You know, back in the seventies, you
didn't have relentless talk radio. It was newspapers, you know
what I mean. Our media now is loud and its
multi platform, and these players make a lot of money,
and fans tend to be more outspoken and verbal and
caustic and obnoxious, and there's just a lot to deal with.
(34:58):
I think Otani is putting too much pressure on himself.
Here was Dave Roberts talking about what he's going through.
Speaker 5 (35:06):
His decision making hasn't been good. You know, you can see,
you know, it's balls in off and he's really not
given himself a chance to, you know, hit a mistake.
I just think that he's in between a little bit.
But the swing decisions are just not where they need
(35:28):
to be right now.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
Needless to say, the Dodgers got through it despite that
because they have the ability to win several ways. So
through the years, this is where J McK and I
have often disagreed. I there are certain people in the
NFL I will defend even when they're not winning. Kevin
Stefanski has lost a lot of games, but I always
(35:54):
defend him. Zach Taylor in Cincinnati, there's a lot of l's.
I always defend him. Shane Steiken last year it was bad.
I said, he knows what he's doing. So I tend
to be on the defend Brian Dable side, even though
Brian Dable hasn't won a lot of games. Last night,
there was a moment where he's freaking out going over
(36:16):
to the tent. He didn't want Russell Wilson out there.
He wanted to make sure his guy could play. And
I totally get it because he's twenty and thirty six
as a head coach and it's very likely he will
not get another head coaching job. He may. I would
certainly interviewed him. I thought the Chargers should have hired him,
not Brandon Staley, but you could see Brian Daboll his concern.
(36:37):
He wanted him out there, so and my takeaway is
the reason I side with offensive coaches because we're in
an offensive league. And if the Giants had a defensive
coach that was twenty and thirty six with Jackson Dart,
I'd be done. But bad quarterback play can make really
smart offensive coaches look bewildered and lost. And so I
(37:01):
am going to defend Brian Dabole like I've defended Kevin
Stefanski and last year Shane Steiken and Zach Taylor. Is
that it's an offensive league. I mean, if you go
back to Shane steikin last year, people around Indianapolis, some
national people, some local people, very critical of the culture.
(37:22):
It's a bad team. You got a good roster, you
got a good coach. Anthony Richardson was Tebow accurate. You
can't win in this league. So I think da Bol
is really good. I don't know if he's Kevin Stefanski good,
but I think he's good. I'm gonna defend him. And
here was Brian Dabele about going to the doctor for
(37:44):
an update.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
If you ever been on an NFL sideline, there's a
lot of emotions, and I certainly am an emotional guy.
I apologized directly to our team physician. I just wanted
disass out there if he was okay, but I wanted
to process like we were getting ready to go for it,
potential for down. I would have burned a time out
if you could have came out there. So I was asking,
how long is it gonna take? And you want your
guy out there, not at risk of anything else.
Speaker 5 (38:08):
But you know, he came out.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
I think he's gonna be good. I'm like is he
gonna be good or I'm gonna call time out on
fourth down.
Speaker 6 (38:13):
And go for this.
Speaker 1 (38:14):
Yeah. Again, I'm gonna defend the coach on this. One
of the things the media does that drives me crazy.
We're all on our couch and yet in the middle
of a game, we're eating these coaches alive because you
know they don't you know the clock management is. It's
really easy to say from your couch. These games are fluid,
and they're fast, and they're live. There's a lot of pressure,
(38:36):
and so I've seen Peyton Manning blow up at Jeff's
Saturday and Tom Brady scream at Josh McDaniel's. I always
defend him. I will always defend the pro athletes. I
went to a Miami Heat game years ago and it
was Lebron and Wade and Bosh. I was down in
Miami betterly totally committed to the show. But I was
down in Miami and Ann and I were down there
(38:59):
watching the game. I don't WATCHMI and Lebron. James in
a timeout is just Barkin at Mario Chalmers, and he's
just Barkin at his team, and it's like, well, don't
we all want our athletes to care and don't. We
want the best players to have leadership qualities. Sometimes volume works,
So I'm going to defend these coaches and these quarterbacks
(39:20):
and these players to get highly emotional like I. You know,
I don't. I don't want to hold your hand. When
des Bryant was in Dallas and it was like every
time they didn't look at it. I'm not babysitting you. Okay,
you got to be a grown up. That's different, but
dable on the sidelines, Hey what are we doing here?
Without saying it, he said it. I don't want the
(39:41):
I don't want the other quarterback. I want Jackson Dart
out there. We got a rhythm, let's go. Jobs are
on the line, there are seven figure jobs. I'm gonna
support emotion as long as it's not terribly disruptive emotion.
You and I talked about it the other day with
the Arizona coach. I wouldn't find him one hundred grand
I didn't love it, but I understand like this, these
(40:02):
games are live, and there's cameras everywhere, and we see
stuff now we didn't used to see.
Speaker 6 (40:07):
Well because the cameras are everywhere, the NFL is now,
according to some NFL reporters they're looking into the concussion
protocol situation last night because Davie made a scene on
the sideline. You know, he's mfing the team doctor, get
my guy back out there.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
Like he was very fired up.
Speaker 6 (40:21):
But he needs, like you said, he's coaching for his job.
I don't think he broke any rules. I think Dart
was fine. His head didn't bang off the turf or anything.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
He did.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
He took some shots though last night. No, no, he
has got to learn to slide. The baseball guys, Kyler
Murray's a great slide, so Wilson was a great slide.
A great slider. The non baseball guys, they think they're fullbacks.
He's diving with his headphone.
Speaker 8 (40:44):
I know, bro.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
Come on blaz and five of a winning week next
