Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Oh, here we go.
It is a Tuesday. Can we top yesterday show?

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Glad? We'll give it a try. The Herd, Hierarchy and
Nick Wright in one hour from now, another iconic World
Series moment at Dodger Stadium on Fox Sports. It is
great to have you in today. I know some of
you are bleary eyed. I know we are here in Chicago.

(00:57):
What a wild why night? J Mack, you're in Los Angeles.
It's a remarkable the people that stayed at the game
because they had an hour and a half drive home.
They're not going to be many all time that are
like that. So let's not waste any time. Any World
Series game that goes eighteen innings can be won and

(01:21):
lost several times, wasted and delivered moments. The Blue Jays
stranded nineteen runners, the Dodger stranded eighteen runners. Both of
these teams had opportunities much earlier in the game, and
it was not a Hollywood blockbuster movie. It was more
like an eight part Netflix special, six hours, six hundred

(01:44):
pitches plus. But it was a perfect representation of what
makes the Dodgers great. Yes, there is o Tawny mj
plus he's absolutely unbelievable and we know that. But you
have Tommy Edmond making great defense plays. That's what Tommy
Edmond does all the time. You had four scoreless innings

(02:06):
from Will Klein. He was pitching for the Tacoma Rainiers.
That's near where I grew up. He had a seven
er for them. Every iconic Dodger moment, especially at Dodger Stadium,
it's not just about the money. There's always a Will cline.
He threw sixty six pitches in September. He threw seventy

(02:30):
two last night against the Blue Jays, easily the best
American League team, and only surrendered a hit in four innings.
Will Klein, still a young guy, released three times this year.
They asked him to go four and he just kept

(02:50):
with that red beard going out there and getting people out.
They needed Clayton Kershaw for a batter YEP Clayton Kershaw
so and then of course, of course it's the Dodgers.
So it goes without saying that Freddie Freeman would have
a walk off. But there were so many different Dodgers

(03:11):
that mattered. I mean, how fitting is it that Kershaw
they need an out? He gets it. Yes, it centers
around O TWI listen to this. O Tani hasn't made
an out. He hasn't made an out at Dodger Stadium
in close to two weeks. Seven for seven with six

(03:31):
walks in roughly two weeks, all extra base hits. We
are lucky to be witness to show hey, he is
officially in the sports world the show first player to
have multiple walks and multiple home runs in the same
World Series game. You have to go back to Yogi

(03:52):
Barratt in the fifties with the Yankees. Oh did I mention?
Otani is starting tonight and we'll be throwing ninety nine
miles an hour, seventeen hours after he got on base
nine times. Wasn't it just last week that o'tawni had
the greatest baseball game ever played. I'm losing track. It

(04:15):
was show hey, O Tawny all night long, of course,
until the bottom of the eighteenth eighteenth inning, when who
else Freddie Freeman closed the door. Trueman says a five
out as center field bar.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Show's going back before the strikes Big played them has
ended up.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
It's a ray paid hero with the last.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Word had a game free classic. I mean that that
is goosebumps. I didn't see a lot lot of people
leaving tip of the cap to Dodger fans. Eighteen innings
ends at midnight, much later where I'm sitting this morning.

(05:09):
But I said before the series Dodgers and six. Two
best teams I believe are the Jays. Now they've got
an injury to overcome, and I don't know how much
gas they have. The Dodgers got very lucky with Yoshi's
complete game. Their bullpen was rested. Tonight it'll be show.
Heyo Tanni, think about this show, Hey o Tani seven

(05:34):
for seven, six walks and his last thirteen played appearances
will now pitch tonight. And he's doing that. Otani's doing
that in a sport where everybody throws ninety eight plus.
I mean, he's Patrick Mahomes and Miles Garrett in one person.
But it was more than Freeman, more than o Tawni.

(05:56):
It was the out by Kershaw, the great defensive plays
by Tommy Edmund. It was Will Klin. There's always a
will climb for the Dodgers. Tria, a pitcher in Tacoma,
couldn't get people out there, four scoreless innings, biggest moment
of his life, still in his mid twenties. It was
a game these two teams played uniquely, the best two teams,

(06:21):
and here's Dave Roberts after.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
You know, that could go down as one of the
greatest games of all time, or you know, it was
ugly there for a while there, you know, but you know,
it's one of those things that I do believe that
the two best teams in baseball are playing in this
series and the two toughest teams. There's a lot of
character right there. And you know, you saw what Laward did.
You saw Will klined it. We had you know, Henriquez,

(06:44):
who was in a ball last year, he's pitching, you
was it Inningsrol Bleski and obviously Freddie being Freddie. It
took everybody on the active roster to win one baseball game,
and it's something special.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
What's really remarkable about the Dodgers, and I think about
this all the time, is that you know how they say,
if you like playing basketball, you don't have to be
an NBA player a college player. But if you like
playing basketball and you go to the YMCA and you
play against a bunch of guys that are better than you,
it will raise your game. You like play better than
you normally do. Right, There's something about the way we

(07:20):
are wired. That's what it is. With the Dodgers. You
put these single A guys, you put Will Kleine in.
You put these guys around Freeman and Bets and Otani
and Glass now and everybody rises to the moment. It's
not just the money. The Yankees and Mets have a
lot of money. It's not just that. And the other

(07:41):
thing that really struck me last night watching this. Otani
was doing this with the Angels, he just wasn't doing
it in October, is that if you are a great player,
and sometimes fans are like, well, I mean they all
go to the Yankees or they all go to the Dogs.

(08:01):
Otani deserved to be a Dodger. I said it when
he signed, and I'll say it again. He's simply too
great not to be on the stage in October. He
is not only the best baseball player ever, I'm not
sure who's second. Honestly, I think Mookie Betts is the
second most talented baseball player on the earth. Can do outfield,

(08:25):
can do shortstof, could lead off, could hit third, could
hit fourth. I mean getting on base nine times. You know,
in basketball you say six for six, everybody knows what
you're talking about. MJ six for six. That's MJ. Lebron's
great all time leading score. He doesn't have a number.

(08:46):
I mean, Gretzky doesn't have a number. Otani got on
base nine times. That's his number. Nobody else could do that.
All right, There was kind of a boring football game
last night. I won't spend too much time on it,
but it is the best team right now in the
world of Kansas City Chiefs, who had kind of a

(09:08):
B minus C plus performance first two possessions, two interceptions.
They're still finding their way. Here's the scary thing, though,
six five weeks ago, we were saying, what does Kansas
City do well? I'm watching last night against the Commanders
in a blowout win, and I'm thinking, what don't they
do well? They have more thirty point games and double

(09:30):
digit wins right now than all of last year. And
we're at the halfway point. So they haven't been this
deep offensively since twenty twenty two. Four hundred yards three
times in the last month. Rashi Rice is clearly clearly
a number one, Xavier Worthy clever number two, Juju Smith

(09:50):
Schuster a perfect number three, and Travis Kelce's not done.
They have not punted in the first half of their
last three games. Their defense is number two in the league.
So and the scary thing is they're missing two offensive linemen,
so they're not quite right yet. They're just not quite
buttoned up on the front. But I said this two

(10:13):
weeks ago, I said it last week, and I'll say
it again. I think Kansas City is a touchdown better
than the second best team in the league. And I
still think this morning they're finding their way. But they
haven't had this kind of offense, these kind of weapons,
this kind of depth since like twenty twenty two. And

(10:33):
I'm not even getting to the defense. I don't even
have to worry. Six weeks ago, we're like their special
teams aren't as good, they don't get a consistent pass rush.
This is what great coaching does. Over the course of one, two, three, four,
five weeks, you just close up the weaknesses, build slowly

(10:54):
on the straints. Everything seems to work. Here's Patrick Mahomes
after another win.

Speaker 5 (11:01):
I mean, I know the records is good, but it's
a lot more fun just when everybody's kind of going
out there and making stuff happen. But I think we're
getting better and better. You know, we lost some tough
games early that we had won in previous years. But
it's not like anyone he hung their head. They just
they just continue to get better and better. And that's
all we have to do is is push forward. And
whenever the offense, the defense, and the special team's rowing it,
it's fun to play football.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
Travis Kelsey eight catches, Isaiah Pacheco got significant carries twelve
averaged about four yards of Carrie Mahomes is moving well.
O line still missing pieces. But this is what I said.
When they beat Baltimore. Everybody said, oh, the Ravens are
beat up. It's say now, it's more than that. It's
more than that. They've got a lot of depth and

(11:43):
they are humming. And I thought it was a B
minus C plus performance for most of it, and they
still crush the Commanders. So j Mac. Before we started
the show, Toy, you and I were saying, I don't
know if I could have stayed for eighteen innings at
Dodger Stadium, but I think you were getting so many
I mean that game could have ended several I mean
number warning track fly balls multiple times. It took some

(12:06):
great defensive plays. My question today is if you are
a road team. So the Dodgers' bullpen was rested. You
know they spent three hundred and thirty five million for Yoshi.
He's been worth every penny because that complete game in
Game two, you had a bullpen that was rested.

Speaker 6 (12:25):
You know.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
The Blue Jays, I don't know what they have left.
They're gonna need seven and a half, seven and two
third starting pitching in in tonight. They I don't know
what they're gonna do. They lose a star player, their
bullpens depleted. The Dodgers would love o Tani to go
six to seven tonight, but I think they could survive
if he didn't. So you know, if you win, if

(12:48):
you win Game three of the World Series, the numbers
tell you about a seventy percent chance of winning the series.
But that's just not a Game three that was incredibly taxing,
especially on the team. I don't know if the Blue Jays,
I don't know what's left in the tank will find out.

Speaker 7 (13:04):
Yeah, I think we got a baseball guest coming on later.
I would look just mentally, what does a game.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Like that do you know? Like, I mean, you clearly don't.

Speaker 7 (13:11):
Get home until two in the morning out here, right
you're on a high or you're super low if you're
the Blue Jays. I don't know mentally what that does
for these guys because now you gotta face Otani on
the mound, and we know how good he is, Like
feels like a big, big edge to the Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Yeah, a couple hours, Derek Jeter will stop by our show.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
You ever see that guy that pulls into the driveway
after work, Maybe it's the wife and they stay in
the car for like fifteen minutes. They're not on their phone,
They're just sitting there. They don't really want to go inside.
I feel like that's Steeler fans. According to multiple stories
I've read over the last day, Packers Steelers game felt

(14:33):
like a neutral site that many of the best seats
were Packer fans. Those are season ticket holders for the
Steelers bailing taking the money. Steeler fans every right to
be frustrated as the league is pivoted to an offensive league.
Seven straight seasons of a second to third tier offense

(14:54):
and they just don't take the quarterback position seriously. It's
a responsibility to go to a Steelers game, but do
you really love it? Green Bay Packer fans had many
of the best seats in this game, and fans want
to feel optimistic, not only about Sunday but the future.
The New York Giants aren't very good, but between Skataboo

(15:15):
and Jackson Dart, I mean, they're gonna renew their season
tickets the minute they can. I mean the Steelers, you
can't fool die hard fans, and you can't fool Vegas
Right now. The Baltimore Ravens at two and five are
favored to win the division and should be so. Again.
I've been saying this for years and years. You will

(15:35):
show me what matters to you in life. Where are
you actionable? Since Big Ben Torah Ligament at thirty seven
years old, their answer at quarterback has been Kenny Pickett,
who I was told by a general manager with multiple
Super Bowl trophies was a bottom third round prospect. And

(15:57):
their other answer was Aaron Rodgers. And I'm not blaming Aaron.
He's been about as good as you can be walking
into a defensive culture that didn't do anything right for
the last seven years offensively, So on Sunday night, I
said this, yesterday, they got outclassed. The Packers progressive, smart
offensive coach, draft and develop spend their money wisely. Pittsburgh

(16:20):
once again most expensive defense and now they can't tackle.
So here's Mike Tomlin trying to fix again this year
the offensive issues.

Speaker 6 (16:34):
You know, we all have to own it. Certainly you
start with the schematics, man, because you know it as
the leadership component of it. And certainly we'll be looking
at everything that we're doing, man, because some of these
problems are somewhat repetitive and we're not getting better fast enough.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
Said this, the Rams had a quarterback that got him
to a Super Bowl and they upgraded. The Niners had
Garoppolo got him to a super Bowl, upgraded, Chiefs had
Alex Smith getting you to the playoffs, upgraded. Those quarterbacks
were all good, and the offensive coaches are like not
good enough. I mean, Russell Wilson Denver, you could win

(17:14):
games with Sean Payton, Like not good enough. Mike Tomlin,
I mean, remember this offseason, we're like, is Aaron playing
Who's he playing for? There was just no urgency. That's
not how offensive coaches act. So I feel like Steeler
fans a little like the guy in the driveway that's
not coming into the house. It's not special. There's a

(17:35):
responsibility to get in there eventually help with the kids.
But it's it didn't feel like love anymore. It feels
like a responsibility. And to give away great seats to
the Packers because the Packers are optimistic, because they draft
their quarterback three years before he's gonna play. Packer fans
are always optimistic. Here's j Mack with the news.

Speaker 2 (17:57):
No No is the herd line News.

Speaker 7 (18:02):
All right, gond, let's start with the San Francisco forty
nine ers. Your guy Mac Jones was not very good
against Houston. Listen, we knew the wheels were gonna come off.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
Enter Rock Purty.

Speaker 7 (18:12):
He missed his fourth straight game against Houston with that
toe injury. But Kyle Shanahan met with the media yesterday,
and interestingly, he's like tiptoeing around whether or not perty's
gonna play. I don't get it. Let me know what
you think about Kyle Shanahan his chances. I'm pretty playing
this week.

Speaker 8 (18:28):
It's too early to say.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
I don't think it's a long shot.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
But I know he's doing better, and we'll see how
he's doing Wednesday.

Speaker 10 (18:36):
Hopefully, if he's doing good, he'll get in some reps.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Well. I think he's got a really good backup. I
thought Mac Jones actually made some great throws, one for
a touchdown, one down about the one yard line. But
the truth was that offensive line's not very good and Houston.
Houston's one of those teams that on any Sunday can
outplay you and make your life miserable. I did not
think I thought Houston was one of my picks. I
thought Houston was in a really good spot. So I think, listen,

(19:04):
here's the good news. Mac Jones is probably the best
backup quarterback in the league right now. He's up there,
he's up there, and so why risk why risk Perdy?
What's the point get one hundred percent?

Speaker 7 (19:14):
Well, it is interesting because the Giants have a good
pass rush this week.

Speaker 3 (19:17):
That's the opponent.

Speaker 7 (19:18):
It hasn't been as great as we thought it would be.
That being said, you got to win this game. If
you're the Niners, right Seattle's moving. They may not face
Jayden and Daniels this week. You can't keep falling behind.
The Rams are two touchdown favorites against the Saints, and
by the way, hold on Niners next week. Colin the
rematch with the Rams, remember that win on Thursday night.

(19:38):
They play again next week, so maybe they save.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
Perdy for that.

Speaker 1 (19:44):
Jmc you always say that when I'm on a heater.
I don't give you any clues. I like the Niners
minus two and a half.

Speaker 7 (19:51):
I don't know why, why is it still two and
a half. Why isn't this three? I think there's alla
be three and a half well, and the Giants are bad.

Speaker 3 (19:57):
Scataboo's done.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
If you look at Sean mcdermotoff, why did the Buffalo
Panthers line, Why wasn't it different? I mean there's some
times you're trying to get, you know, a sports book.
They're trying to get equal play on both sides. Everything
told you the Bills would win, but the line was
kind of relatively competitive. This is one of my picks
so far. I like the Niners in this spot interesting.

Speaker 7 (20:20):
I'm largely with you. I don't know what the Giants
are at this point. Like with Skataboo out, did you
see how down Jackson Dart was after he left?

Speaker 3 (20:29):
Of course hidden is like head butt, that's his boy.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
Also, if you look at Jackson Dark's completion percentage, he's
had great plays and great moments. He's not consistent. I mean,
we can all you know, talk about the quarterbacks that
are young but Jackson is a rookie and Robert sala
is one of the best defensive coordinators in football. This
is not going to be a great week for Jackson.
Dark hold on time Ount CJ. Stroud.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
I watch that closely because I was loaded up.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
On the Texans.

Speaker 7 (20:54):
Stroud beat them with his legs. The Niners have trouble
with these quarterbacks. Who could scramble Baker Maye field member
in Tampa. I don't know, man, I'm a little nervous.
I'm with you on the Niners largely, but there are
some lingering issues for San France.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
Next up Detroit Lions.

Speaker 7 (21:10):
They are coming out of their bye week at five
and two. They are big favorites against the Vikings this week,
and also Dan Campbell says they haven't even played up
to their potential.

Speaker 10 (21:22):
I really believe we hadn't played our best ball yet collectively,
you know, in all three phases, and that's really what
we're you know, what we're trying to get to here,
man is man, how can we sharpen ourselves? We know
it's going to take every phase. Every game is different
and one unit may have to pick up the slack
of ma'am. We need to start playing complete ball across
the board and just keep improving.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
Yeah, well it takes time for everybody. They're good. They're
a top ten team. I mean, they've spent their money
on the right spots, pass rushers, weapons, They're good. I
think you know there was a fear and I was
way into this that like they're the window closed without
Ben Johnson. Offense is fine. O line's fine, running, game's great,
golf is leading the league in a couple of categories.

(22:07):
They're fine, are they?

Speaker 3 (22:09):
I mean, Colin again, I get it.

Speaker 7 (22:12):
You look on the surface five and two, Oh my gosh,
leaving the division, everybody, you start to drill down a
little bit.

Speaker 3 (22:18):
Oh, let's see the good teams they've played.

Speaker 7 (22:20):
So they get smashed in the opener by the Packers,
they go to Kansas City and get worked by the Chiefs.
Like I just again this same deal with the Chiefs. Man,
you were you were all excited to have it puned
in the first half last three games. I mean, they're
playing bad teams. So like, if you really want to
drill down, that win over Baltimore, remember at the time

(22:41):
looked amazing. Baltimore was beat up. I mean, like they
started you could start to see the weaknesses for the Ravens.
I look at that, Oh, you beat you know, the
Cleveland Browns, and you beat Jake Browning. I just even
that win over Tampa before the by Tampa was exhausted
injured was a layup for us.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
Sounds like a lot of excuses. Detroit's pretty good. If
if you and I look at Detroit right now, take
the Green Bay game out. It's week one. Week one
now is pre season. Nobody plays any starters. Go week go,
Week two on. It's good.

Speaker 7 (23:14):
Okay, So let me ask you who are the best
three teams in the NFC?

Speaker 3 (23:17):
Not I'm sorry, not best. Who would you trust the
most to get to the Super Bowl in the NFC?
Right now?

Speaker 1 (23:22):
Philadelphia? Are you forgetting Green Bay?

Speaker 3 (23:28):
Seattle?

Speaker 1 (23:29):
No, Seattle makes way too many mistakes. They're too young,
and they're not they're just not buttoned up yet.

Speaker 6 (23:36):
You know.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
It's Rams Lions. Depends on where the game's played in Detroit.
I take Detroit.

Speaker 11 (23:43):
Troy.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
It could be three or four or five in the NFC.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
Well, that's good enough. If you're in the top three,
you're in a good space.

Speaker 7 (23:50):
By the way, this week, we're gonna Smoke them.

Speaker 11 (23:54):
J J.

Speaker 7 (23:54):
McCarthy, smoke them. He's a Viking season. By the way,
it's three and four. They have Lamar on deck. Okay,
final story, con let's go to ooh the NBA. You know,
I forgot to do a Cooper Flag story yesterday and
the staff got on my case. Unfortunately, we got a
Cooper Flag one today.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
And it's not good.

Speaker 7 (24:10):
He appeared to hurt his shoulder last night early in
the game, proceeded to shoot one of nine, had no
assist in thirty one minutes, came out of the game
early in the fourth, did not return. Now, this was
his first back to back as a pro. Here's Flag
talking about the injury. And I'm not gonna call it
a benching, but he was kind of on the bench

(24:31):
the end.

Speaker 12 (24:33):
Probably get some stands or whatever, make sure everything's all clean.
But I thought he was just a little sore. Just
wanted to keep eye on it, you know. I said,
do some rehab and shore we could a go.

Speaker 10 (24:43):
I wasn't myself.

Speaker 12 (24:44):
I wasn't, you know, impacting the game at a high level.

Speaker 7 (24:47):
Wasn't doing the right stuff.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
So obviously I's a easy decision for coach and he's just.

Speaker 12 (24:51):
Out there try and win the game. So, I mean,
you know, those guys did a great job, no battle
the back down to take twenty more than that one point.
So they did a incredible job just to out of
bag and put us in a position where we could
have won a game.

Speaker 7 (25:04):
So Cooper Flag is eighteen years old for another seven
weeks eighteen.

Speaker 3 (25:09):
That is insane.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
Mavericks.

Speaker 7 (25:11):
By the way, your NBA Finals pick, I'll give you
a mulligan. You know, I don't even know if they're
a playoff team coming.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
I'm sorry. It's October. Austin Reeves looks like the best
player in the year. It's October. He looks like the
best player in the association. It's October. Okay, all right?

Speaker 8 (25:28):
J Mack of the news, Well, that's the news, and
thanks for stopping by. It's the herd Line News.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
So it's very interesting when you live in Chicago and
everybody is so uptied about Caleb Williams. I saw another
story today. Here's the headline. Caleb Williams is fine. Everybody relax,
well fine, not the standard. When a you hired the
hottest offensive coach on the market, you upgraded your offensive

(25:57):
line by one hundred million dollars. You've had the third
easiest schedule in the NFL, and the Packers now are surching.
Fine is when you take your family out to dinner
and the bill is like forty eight bucks and dinner's fine.
It's not fine. If it's the wedding anniversary and you
spend four hundred dollars and the food is fine, that's

(26:18):
not good enough. Listen, the numbers are really interesting. Through
seven games from last year to this year. One thing
has improved dramatically. He is getting sacked half as much,
and that's really important. Everything else is the same Eber Blues,
Ben Johnson. Maybe this is just what Caleb is. He

(26:42):
holds the ball too long right now, longer than any
quarterback in the league, and outside of the scripted opening drive,
he's not very accurate. Maybe that's what he is. Two staffs,
multiple coaches, outside of the sacks coming down, which is important,
the same guy. So if you take out the Dallas

(27:04):
Cowboys game, which everybody scores on the Dallas Cowboys got
an eighty one passer rating five TVs. Four picks, and
you say Colin an eighty one passer rating, that is fine.
Will Levis had an eighty one passer rating last year. Okay,

(27:24):
so that is not fine. So again he's a number
one overall pick. They hired the hottest, most coveted offensive coach.
They spent one hundred million plus to upgrade the interior line,
wide receiver, tight end, excellent talent, running back, two schedule easy,
only getting harder. So the numbers are what they say.

(27:45):
They are so kind of middle of the pack. And
by the way, I don't think I'm being harsh. I
tend to be a guy that's data driven. Look at
the numbers. So if you go to seven games last
year with a mess of a coaching staff and the
first seven games this year, the numbers are all the same.
He completes about sixty one percent of his throws. I mean,
it's not fifty two percent. And the opening drive has

(28:08):
been very impressive. But I'm not the only one saying this.
Carson Palmer. I came on yesterday and I said, I
don't think he is a timing and rhythm quarterback, and
I think it's a timing and rhythm offense and head coach.
And here's what Carson Palmer said.

Speaker 13 (28:25):
I just have yet to watch a game where I've
seen him excel in the pocket and you know, drop back, take,
you know, go through his footwork, whether it's five steps,
one hitch, two hitch, three hitch, and then extend to play.
You're just seeing him get to the pocket, look around,
look around.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
And then escape.

Speaker 13 (28:40):
Just don't see the development there for the last couple
of years. And I don't see a comfort level with
Caleb's game within the pocket.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
So the quarterback class he came out of, Jayden Daniels,
Boom Day one star, Drake May, year two, start of
the season star bo Nicks last year made the playoffs
in the Mahomes Herbert Division. I don't think it takes
that long. It's just my opinion. I do think by

(29:09):
Thanksgiving of the second year, you're going to kind of
see what people are. So we got a month ago,
but if you look at the numbers last year and
this year, Mike, one of the things I've always said
is that what was your primary liability in college, consistent accuracy.

(29:29):
If that becomes your primary issue in the NFL, consistent accuracy,
then that's what you are now. There are times Jordan
Love was kind of reckless in college. He's not reckless.
Now why he's getting better coaching, Like, sometimes you don't
get the college coaching, sometimes you get much better coaching
in the Pro. So you can have an issue in

(29:49):
college that disappears, right, Like Johnny Manzel looked small in college.
I watched this first NFL game. He was even smaller
in the pros. That's a problem, right, So does your
issue carry over? If it does, that's who you are.
So I do think you can win games. I do

(30:09):
think he's exciting. I've said the word horsepower one hundred times.
But the numbers are the numbers. And you know, timing
in rhythm coach, not a timing and rhythm quarterback. Doesn't
mean you can't win games. But remember the Lions and
the Packers are in this division. The Lions have the
best offensive line arguably in the sport, a super Bowl quarterback,

(30:30):
weapons everywhere, and the Packers are the youngest offense, and
over the last three or four weeks they're getting better fast.
So that to me is not fine. In relax, those
are not the two words I would use. Fine and relax, Right, Like,
if you spend let's say you spend one hundred thousand
dollars to upgrade your kitchen and you come in and

(30:50):
you look at it. It shouldn't be fine. If I
spent one hundred thousand dollars from my kitchen, I should
be like, sweet, this is awesome. So I mean the coach,
the schedule, the old lineup grades, and I've been saying this.
I think the Bears offensive talent's good. DJ Moore's good.
You just had cast that one hundred this weekend. Coleston Lovelin,

(31:10):
Cole come Ot, DeAndre Swift. Roma Dunze is a good player.
I will say Caleb is not getting sacked as much,
and he has developed a real relationship with Roma Dunze.
Those are the two things I really like. He and
Roma Dunze are on the same page. That's important. And
he's not getting sacked as much, really important. There are
some positives they're not all putting drive on script is good,

(31:31):
but I'm not fine and relaxed. It's not what I
want to hear heard Hierarchy Nick Wright top of our
number two.

Speaker 8 (31:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon Eastern not a em Pacific.

Speaker 7 (31:44):
Last night, the Dodgers took a two games to one
World Series lead, after an epic eighteen inning marathon. Now
the Blue Jays looked to tie it up in Game four.
Coverage begins tonight at seven pm Eastern, four pm Pacific
on You know.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
I was thinking about this this morning. Between Freddie Freeman's
walk off in the eighteen and Trump's tariffs on Canada,
We're not being very nice to our neighbors to the north.
We're just not being very nice. I don't know if
the Blue Jays have anything left. They you know, march
through the Yankees, march through the American League. They're a

(32:21):
great team, but they lost their clutch hitting George Springer,
who was great with the Astros, great with the Blue Jays.
He's probably gone in the series or certainly limited. You
lose on the road in eighteen and exhaust your bullpen.
I just it felt backbreaking to me when Freddy Freeman
hit that thing out, it felt backbreaking. So again, the

(32:42):
Dodgers bullpen was more rested because they went and spent
three hundred and thirty five million on Yoshi and all
he does now is throw complete games, which helps the Dodgers' bullpen.
So last night, after the game, blue Jays manager he's
got a new solution for Ojay Tawny. He's not going
to pitch to him anymore.

Speaker 14 (33:03):
We're trying to pitch around him, you know what I mean.
And you trust Sir Anthony to make pitches to do that,
and sometimes for pitchers it's hard to do that, you know,
when you're you're kind of trying to throw a ball
and didn't put it where you want to put it.
But you know, he had a great game. He's a
great player. But I think, you know, after that, you

(33:24):
just kind of take the bet out of his hands.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
And not to give away secrets, but this is pretty
much what we should expect going forward. Yeah, listen, when
you come for the King, you best not miss. And
I felt like last night they missed barely. I mean,
it was a game that could have gone either way.
Warning track balls all night, but they had their shots

(33:48):
last night. I mean, the Dodgers stranded eighteen runners. The
Dodgers relied on a guy from the Tacoma Rainiers that
had been cut three times Will Climb and they got
to hit off him. So I just think, you know,
it feels like it is meant to be. To me,
the three four best players in the series are Otani, Bets,

(34:09):
Vlad Guerrero, Freddie Freeman and the Dodgers. I mean, Yoshi
now is Yammoto? Is is he four or five? I mean,
when you're going complete games in the postseason and dominating
lineups like the Brewers and the Blue Jays, it just
feels like I thought the Dodgers were gonna win this

(34:31):
thing anyway. But man, I'm not sure how you overcome
last night. I'm not sure. It just kind of felt
like the oxygen got pulled out after Freddie hit it out.
Here's Dave Roberts on the Blue Jays trying to pitch
to Otani.

Speaker 4 (34:47):
Playing with you, there's no bigger clutch player in the postseason.
You know, I played with Barry, but you know, to
see you know, Schneider walk he with nobody on base
to make sure he doesn't beat him. You know, I've
never seen anything like it, certainly in the postseason. And
this guy's gonna be pitching later today, and that's what's crazy.

(35:08):
But you know, just good at bats, and you knew
that he was going to do something special tonight, and
John was going to make sure he didn't kind of
finish the game, and thank goodness, we got Freddy Freeman
in our lineup too.

Speaker 11 (35:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
I mean, listen, Los Angeles knows how to handle stars.
They always have Matt Stafford, Aaron Donald, Justin Herbert, Jim Harbaugh,
Sean McVay o, Tawny Bets, Freddie Freeman. Their proximity to
the Pacific Rim is certainly valuable. But Otani was doing
a lot of this stuff in Anaheim, and we said

(35:41):
for years, Mike Trout, go to the Yankees, get on
the stage. You've earned it. I'm watching last night and
I'm thinking, and this is not a shot at the Angels,
but the Dodgers are so well run. And the advantage
to playing for a big market team or a team
with a lot of money is better people hit behind you,

(36:02):
better people hit in front of you. They don't absolutely
rely on you. I said this about the late Kobe
Bryant when Shack left. Kobe wanted to be the man.
He didn't want to be the only man. That's why
five star players go to Ohio State and not Purdue.
They want to be surrounded and elevated by the best players.
So I think Toronto's a great team. I think they're

(36:24):
a fantastic team. I don't know what you could. Sometimes
the answer is we don't have one. It's like Michael
Jordan the Phoenix Suns. What are we gonna do? I
don't think there's an answer to Otawani, Freeman, Betts and
the Dodger starting pitching. So I saw this quote this morning.
This would terrify me. If I'm a Dallas Cowboy fan.

(36:46):
I've been very pro Jerry pro dak this year. Jerry
Jones is not happy with the Cowboys record. He will
consider trades to make the team better. Stephen Jones, Charlotte
step in, get in front of Jerry. So the Cowboys

(37:07):
are actually in a really good spot. Four first round
picks the next two years, highly entertaining this season, but
not good. So one of those picks is going to
be a top ten and next year's draft is loaded
with what you need in the first round, great edge

(37:28):
rushers and a few corners. So the teams that should
be really really working on trade deadline deals rams they
did yesterday and went and got a corner from the
Titans Colts New England. Could they get another pass rusher Buffalo?
I mean, Buffalo's pass defense is pretty good, the offense

(37:49):
is fine. Could they use another receiver, Could they use
a defensive stopper on the interior. So the trade deadline
is for specific teams. It's not the New York Giants
unless you want to move somebody. New York Giants are
not gonna be a playoff team. Move somebody, get a pick.
If somebody needs an interior defensive lineman, Dexter Lawrence had

(38:11):
better days, maybe that's the guy. So but somebody has
to step in front of Jerry. I've said this sometimes
when you make a trade and you make a deal,
you don't look good for six months to a year.
That's Dallas moving off Micah. That's the Lakers moving off Shack.
The Lakers knew first year and a half it's not

(38:32):
going to look good. We got to get Kobe a partner.
They did. But you're right now, the Cowboys are the
tenth best team in the NFC. So just don't get
in your way. It's painful, it's ugly. Couldn't be going better.
What you need in the first round. The draft has
a lot of corners and edge rushers. You don't need
a quarterback. Seven teams do. They'll move up. You can

(38:53):
move down and turn two first round picks into additional three,
four and five round picks. So it's it's really you know,
I gotta see it till April. Dallas is in a
really good spot, just not today. And here's Jerry on
a potential deal before the trade deadline.

Speaker 11 (39:12):
If I saw a proposition for us to help this team, well,
no matter what this score was today, then I would
look at it on the merits of helping the state.
And I'm not trying to be cute, but that's why
you'd go get him, is that you'd think it could
help you defense. One player we one player away on defense.

Speaker 1 (39:32):
I think we're not. Yeah they're not. But you could
be a first round edge rusher and a first round corner.
And because you moved off Micah, maybe you can find
another interior backer, slot corner too, or a safety. So
Cowboys now have the quarterback and flexibility and draft picks.

(39:53):
That's a great place to be. The Rams yesterday went
and got a corner. That's what the Rams should do.
The Rams don't have a whole except corner. That's what
That's what the trade deadline's for, all right. Game four,
Derek Jeter will be joining us third hour. He was
up late. Nick Wright is joining us with her hierarchy

(40:14):
top of Next Hour. I don't think. I don't know
if you can top last night. The team that wins
Game three of the World Series wins about seventy percent
of the time. I think it's the same thing. In
the NBA Finals. Game three is kind of a deciding
game Game three or Game five, don't Yeah, I just
I think that's a lot to overcome.

Speaker 3 (40:34):
Hey, real quick calling. You want a little breaking news
in the NFL?

Speaker 1 (40:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (40:38):
Tyler Shook has been named the starter for the Saints
against the Rams this week, according to Ian Rappaport, and
the line has gone up from thirteen and a half
to fifteen in some spots.

Speaker 3 (40:48):
Does that do anything for you?

Speaker 1 (40:51):
I'll take the Rams. Yeah. I don't like big favorites.
I will take the Rams.

Speaker 11 (40:57):
Like it.
