You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Here we go. It's our number two on a Monday,
live in Los Angeles.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
It's The Herd.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Wherever you may be and however you may be listening.
Thanks for making us part of your day. A long
time color analysts for the Chicago Bulls, very colorful, funny.
Stacy King, seventeen years of broadcaster, three rings a decade
with the Bulls, will be joining us. He had pretty
good coaches, pat Riley, Phil Jackson. Stacy had pretty good,
(00:56):
pretty good coaches. Jamac Your jet got a couple of
offensive linemen. They got Elijah vera tucker back obviously. Yeah,
so they don't feel like they didn't go get a receiver.
They got a tight end in the seventh round. But
they were drafting. They got an edge and a couple alignment.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
They drafted need. They got talent.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
This is.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
And I was.
Speaker 5 (01:18):
I was mocking it up, and I'm on a text
team with some Jets buddies. I think this is the
best Jets roster they've had this century. If you just
look at all the positions, Okay, you go into the
season feeling good about everything except maybe left tackle, a
big position, and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
Otherwise, Jets are in really good shape.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Con I think you should be positive. I think you should.
I think they're good.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
Are you agreeing with me?
Speaker 1 (01:41):
I think they would be easier in the other conference,
But I think they're a good team. I think their
division is tougher than we think.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Ten win floor. That sound fair?
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Oh god, why do you slow down a little? You're
just you're you're basically building up disappointment. That's all you're doing.
How about it? How about an eight win floor, an
eleven win ceiling and behalf.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
But you got thirteen or ten.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
Eight wins and everybody's fired, GM's gone, coaches.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
Gone, the first round pick has gone for come on,
forget it.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
It's over all right. Every Monday at this time, Colin right,
Colin wrong, plenty of both.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Where Colin was right?
Speaker 1 (02:14):
I thought the Warriors experience would be the different and
why they would beat Sacramento.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
They would eventually win a road game.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Sure enough, Sacramento second half of Game seven folded sixty
four to forty two. They just shrunk. There's no way
around it. They were outplayed at home in the fourth
quarter of the last two games in Sacramento. I really
like the Kings. I think they're about a wing player away.
There's so many elements I like. They remind me of
(02:42):
the Young Warriors, the Baby Warriors a little bit, with
a low key Harrison Barnes and the defender in Sabonis,
the tough guy Davy and Mitchell, then the star and
d Aaron Fox.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
But the series went the way I thought it.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Would where Colin was rough.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
I've always been a little bit of a pushback guy
on Anthony d. I think he's soft, doesn't play through pain, inconsistent,
but he was a monster against Memphis. He gave you
thirty six minutes four blocks per game. Unbelievable rim protector.
He had a really great last twenty games for the Lakers.
He has been what everybody thought he would be. On
the floor a lot of minutes rim protector go to
(03:20):
offensive guy, and I suspect he has a very good series.
We got to be fair on this show. I've banged
on him several times. Not available, not consistent. I think
he's been in top five player in the league in
his last twenty games.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Where Colin was right.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Never a fan of Memphis, thought they were deep, but immature,
bit of a fraud. And I thought the Lakers would
win in six or seven games, and they did. The
bottom line is after Jahn Morant, and including Jahn Morant,
sometimes their offense goes a little dark. I think Jaw's explosive,
a firework show, but I think they need another star.
I'd be happier if Jaw was their number two. He's
(03:57):
wildly entertaining, but their net rating goes up significant, significantly
when he's off the floor. But where as I bought
young Sacramento, I don't really buy young Memphis. I think
they have a lot of moves to make to be
a title contender. Where Colin was wrong, Milwaukee getting rolled
shocked me. Jannis looked terrified at the free throw line. Listen,
(04:20):
Shaq went through this the hack a shack period and
Eric spolsterra was remarkable. I just didn't think Miami had
enough buckets against Milwaukee's defense, and we kept saying we
thought the Bucks were old and needed to reboot after
the season. Who knew they needed to reboot during the
first round.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Where Colin was right.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
I said two months ago, Bryce Young's the number one pick.
I don't care what the betting market's saying on CJ.
Stroud or Anthony Richards. And he's the most refined quarterback.
I actually think Carolina could win the division. Smart, moves, agile, accurate.
I think he sees the field like Mahomes. It's just
hard to explain he sees both sidelines. I think he's
(05:01):
a remarkable player. I also had Atlanta at eight getting
Bjon Robinson. I know everybody bangs on running backs, but
great is great. B John Robinson, as one GM told me,
was the cleanest player in the draft. There's nothing not
to like about him. I think he's Ladanian Tomlinson. I
think he'll be a fifteen hundred yard back potentially as
a rookie. And I think Atlantas said, you know what,
(05:22):
we're gonna see if Desmond Rider can play, let's get
him a star.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Where Colin was raw, I would not have.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Picked Anthony Richardson over Will Levis, and Will Levis concerned me.
Anthony Richardson going forward to the colts Man, he is raw,
and I'm talking fifty three percent completion percentage in college.
That is beyond raw. I know Josh Allen did it,
but he always feels like a bit of an outlier.
The kid is a big, strong athlete. I can't wait
to watch him play. I mean they say he's was
(05:50):
a significantly better athlete than Josh Allen or Cam Newton.
So he's got the whole bag. But he struggles on
the easy stuff. I mean, the swing passes he can
struggle with.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
So I was wrong there where Colin was right.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens figured it out. I had
said before, you say what you want about Lamar Jackson.
He may be a bit unorthodox having his mom as
an agent. But the last ten starts he won seven.
He wins seventy to seventy five percent of it starts,
and in the AFC, you got to be special at quarterback.
The kids special, and he's one of the most dynamic
players I've ever seen. He's a better passer than people
(06:23):
giving credit for that part is just unfair. He is fine,
and they also now they got him Obj, They went
out and got.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Him another receiver.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
So Baltimore over the weekend, you come out on Monday
and you're like, yeah, Baltimore is going to be really good.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
And the reason is they got Lamar back.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Where Colin was wrong.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Listen, the Denver Nuggets are not a national brand. Their
star is dull and efficient and physically limited. But god,
did they look at make it look easy against Phoenix
forty three percent on threes. They're just so efficient. Phoenix
had twice as many turnovers. Now, we always know they're
good at home of the altitude, but God, even Gordon
was shooting well. They just they didn't they make it
(07:04):
look easy. They don't do anything to get in the
way of wins. They just they don't turn it over
a lot. They shoot it well, they move it well.
Maybe I'm just wrong on Denver. Maybe I'm wrong where
Colin was right. My mock draft had Will Levis going
number four. But I had said before the draft, I
(07:24):
had two gms and a head coach say they didn't
like the gun show at the combine, they didn't like
the selfie in the bathroom. I think it turned people off.
He's got a great arm and moves well. He's a
first round talent but ended up in the second round. Now,
I do think Tennessee could be great for him. A
Southern kid gets to stay close to home. I think
Mike Vrabel's a terrific coach. You'll have a good defense
in a run game with Derrick Henry. Though I had
(07:47):
him going number four in my mock draft, I had
said the last six weeks to eight weeks before the draft,
I thought he did himself no favors. I thought he
came off as a little arrogant and lacking self awareness.
And I thought Anthony Richards said and came off as
humble and.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Grateful where Colin was raw.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Why doesn't anybody like Max Duggan, the quarterback at TCU.
I thought he would go like third, fourth, fifth.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Round Stetson Bennett. I like Max Duggan better than steps
and Bennett.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Why isn't anybody I know he's a little small, but
he's a winner, He's a competitor. He can move with
TCUs town.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
He got him to the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Both J McK and I are beside ourselves on Stetson Bennett,
who has no chance to be a starter. I think
you're looking at a more talented version of brock Purty.
But maybe I'm out of my mind. You and I
both didn't get that one. Didn't get it way off
on that.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Yeah, I don't get it. What am I missing? Did
he do poorly on the S two? Do we not know?
Speaker 1 (08:45):
He's not a big kid, but a lot of these
guys that went aren't big kids.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
Stets In Bennett, he's shorter than I am.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
That slow down, all right.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Stacy King has been one of the great broadcasters seventeen
years as a Bulls TV analyst, three rings a decade
in the NBA. We've been trying to get Stacy King
on for a while, and we get him in today. Stacy,
thank you so much for joining us. So listen. Steph
and Michael are two different players. Michael's the best player
probably I've ever seen. Michael was great defensively, great score,
relentless clutch. I'm not comparing the two, but when I
(09:15):
watched Steph turn Sacramento's building into a morgue, I saw
Michael do that a lot in places like Portland and Seattle,
where the building is like your fans are literally watching
like historic performance. What do you make of Steph You've
seen him in countless games against your Bulls? What do
you make of him as a star.
Speaker 6 (09:37):
He's a killer. You know.
Speaker 7 (09:39):
He doesn't do any self promotion, didn't beat on his
chest and I'm the number one guy. He just goes
out there and handles his business. He knows what he
means to his franchise. He knows what he means of
his team. And you know he gave that text, you
know after Game six, after getting blown out at home
and not playing well.
Speaker 6 (09:56):
He put it on his shoulders.
Speaker 7 (09:57):
And that's what superstar players, That's what the elite players do.
That's what Michael Jordan's, the Kobe's, you know Lebron's. You
know they know when they didn't play well. They know
when it's on them. You know a lot of people, Colin,
you know, want to be the man. But do you
want to be the man when the chips are down?
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Right?
Speaker 6 (10:13):
Do you want to be the man with everything great?
Speaker 1 (10:15):
You know, I always thought the secret sauce to the
Bulls teams was toughness. Like if they had turned the
lights out in the arena and said last team survives,
I mean it was Rodman, Michael, it was tough guys,
Ron Harper guys. And I think the secret sauce to
the Warriors is their intelligence.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
They're away.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
When I watched them play, there's a lot of chess
matches going on, and I, by the way, all great
teams are smart. All the Bulls players the Pistons were
the bad boys. How many gms and coaches came out
of that team? Raw intelligence is underrated in this league.
But when I watched the Warriors play, and I would
have loved to have seen them play your Bulls because
(10:58):
it would have been such an intellectual chess match between
Kerr and Phil Jackson. But they don't. They don't play
like your bulls. Do you like watching this dynasty having
played for one, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (11:10):
I like the way they play. I like the way
they move to basketball.
Speaker 7 (11:13):
We know Steph and Clay are the number one and
number two scores of that team, but they don't really
care who scores. I mean, they do a great job
of passing. You've got guys that understand their roles or
not out there trying to you know, I need more
shots or I need to get more minutes. You look
at a guy like Kevon Looney, who if it wasn't
for him, they probably would not even advance because the
way he did, you know, the way he dominated on
the backboard looked like Dennis Rodman. I mean ten offensive
(11:36):
rebounds against that Sacramento team. I just thought Golden State
really imposed their will after those first two games. I
thought they realized, like listen, when you won the championship,
and you won as many championships as those that core
group has, you know what it takes.
Speaker 6 (11:52):
To get back to that level.
Speaker 7 (11:53):
And once you've tasted that success, that's the only thing
you want to taste. It's like, you know, trying to
say I'm gonna switch for Eaton State, you know, to
just even you know, salads all the time.
Speaker 6 (12:02):
I'd rather have states. They want to have states, so
they know what it takes. Colin. That's the reason why
they're in this position.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
How do you I think I think the Warriors have
a lot of advantages over the Lakers, although I think
a d could have a really nice series. How do
you see the matchup you watched, Actually the Lakers played
a couple of good games against the Bulls this year.
Do you think the Lakers have a shot? What would
they have to do.
Speaker 6 (12:27):
Yeah, the Lakers definitely have a shot.
Speaker 7 (12:28):
They've been probably one of the hottest teams since the
trade deadline, So you know, give Rob Plink a lot
of credit for basically restructioning that team. They're two different teams.
I think Lebron Lebron is gonna do Lebron things. I
think he's got to take advantage of mismatches. If Steph
Curry gets switched off on him, not just rely on
the jump shots, take him into the paint. Make Steph
(12:50):
have to guard on any switches where there is an
advantage the Laker way, I think they're gonna have to
They're gonna have to come out and play hard, and
they're gonna have to get out the shooters. If they're
core group of guys. You know, AD's gonna got to
play well. Lebron's gonna play well. But it's the others,
as Jack always says, the others. You know, how will
austerin Reeves in this moment play against Steph and and
(13:10):
play against this Golden State Warrior team, these young kidsd
lo is he gonna make shots because you're gonna have
to make shot for ship against the Warriors.
Speaker 6 (13:17):
Kid, if you don't. It's gonna be a long, long series.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
How shocked are you in the East that Miami didn't
just beat Milwaukee, they rolled them. Now we knew, we
said all year on this show, Milwaukee's old. They got
to reboot. They got some guys, ingles, crowded, they're old,
but Miami rolled them. Then Miami goes into New York.
There's no Tyler hero, so you know three pointers are
gonna be You're thinking a bit about of a premium
(13:41):
Jimmy Butler's limping. In the end, they shoot forty two
percent and they went pretty comfortably. Are you shocked by
Miami or have you seen this so much from Spolstra
and Riley culture through the years.
Speaker 6 (13:53):
Yeah, I was.
Speaker 7 (13:54):
I was really surprised that they beat Milwaukee because I
had Milwaukee and Boston and Eastern Conference finals.
Speaker 6 (13:59):
I think probably ninety five percent of the people did
the way.
Speaker 7 (14:02):
Especially the way Milwaukee kind of rolled through, you know,
everybody in the Eastern Conference.
Speaker 6 (14:07):
And they were the deepest team.
Speaker 7 (14:08):
I mean, he went out and got players, Ingles, they
got Jay Crowder, you know, they went out and got
some bigs just in case they ran into EMBIID.
Speaker 6 (14:15):
I think they overlooked Miami.
Speaker 7 (14:17):
I think, you know, with Gianni smissing those two games,
I thought it hurt him and took them out of momentum.
And Jimmy always used to call Jimmy Jimmy Jordan in Chicago.
I gave the nickname Jimmy G. Buckets in Chicago. He's
a rookie only Planet Game. He used to get mad
at me because he'd always say, stay, you give everybody nicknames.
How come you don't give me a nickname. I said,
we Jimmy only playing eight minutes, so you got to
(14:37):
do something. So so tim give him some minutes. Coliny
ends up going for like twenty in garbage times, so
I gave him the Jimmy G. Buckets Moniker. But he's
been like Jimmy. He's been like Jimmy Jordan in the playoffs.
You look at his playoff record. I mean, he's a
different Jimmy in the playoffs compared to the regular season.
And I think when you look at him, like he
really wants this, he wants to wield this team because
(14:59):
Jimmy's about le Jimmy knows that, you know, in order
to be put up there in that upper echelon of players,
great players in this league. When he's done, it's going
to be what did you do in the playoffs? And
he's already been to a finals, that was the Bubble Finals,
and he's got a chance now to really shock a
lot of people. He can take that Miami team who's
missing a starter in Hero and Oladipo who's playing well
(15:20):
for them. Those are two quality guys they've lost, and
now he's got an ankle sprain.
Speaker 6 (15:25):
So when he pulled to Willis reed and come out
in game two and go for thirty.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Okay. So we got into this argument today where we said,
listen from about ten years ago for the rest of time,
it's a shooters sport. And I love Magic Johnson. I
love him, but he was a six to eight point guard,
which seemed so historically unique. But now centers bring the
ball up the floor, so that hasn't aged to the level.
(15:50):
I think Steph will be viewed as the greatest shooter
ever forever, whereas Magic bringing the ball up at six eight.
Magic wasn't a great defender. He was more of an
a sis guy and a leader guy and the best
point I ever saw. But the way the sport has
evolved like, I just think Steph punishes you so quickly
(16:10):
and so often. He's a nightmare to face. Now, if
he played with a Jordan, he'd takes some shots from Michael.
But you saw a lot of Magic Johnson and you've
watched Steph. Is it fair and reasonable to say they're
different players. But Steph's ability to literally have a nine
point swing in three trips down to the floor to
(16:32):
just silence buildings. You tell me, Magic, Steph, how do
you see at all time?
Speaker 6 (16:38):
Steph definitely will go down as the greatest shooter in
my mind.
Speaker 7 (16:41):
I mean what he's done and what he's done for
the position and showing people that you don't have to
be six foot six, six foot seven to play in
this league has done a remarkable job. He's gonna go
down as one of the greatest shooters. But I will
say this about the comparison between him and Magic. You've
got to remember, you know Magic was Lebron before Lebron.
You know this is the guy. If Magic, you need Magic,
(17:02):
go forty, you go for forty. Magic wasn't a player
that was trying to get points for himself. He was
trying to get his teammates. He was all about the winning.
If you need him to get ten, ten and ten,
he'd do that. If you need him to get forty two,
he'd get you forty two. Six foot nine, that's a
tough matchup, yeah, I mean you look at Lebron. Look
how hard it is to match up with Lebron at
six foot you know, eight, six foot nine that can
(17:24):
handle the ball and has guard skills. So you can
only imagine what Magic would do in this league, especially
with the way.
Speaker 6 (17:30):
Defenses is now.
Speaker 7 (17:31):
You know, during the nineties, you couldn't this, you know,
I mean you you flavoring thousand today's game or ejections
for a week.
Speaker 6 (17:39):
Like so you know it's let's be real.
Speaker 7 (17:42):
I mean, you know you couldn't touch You can't touch
guys in this league right now. So you know you
put you put a Magic in here at six foot nine, who's.
Speaker 6 (17:51):
Going to guard him? Even at the point guard position.
I mean he'd have to.
Speaker 7 (17:54):
Lebron would have to take him almost every single time
down the floor. Because the one thing Magic would do
to Colin is if he had a matchup, he went
right into the post and he threw up that sky
hook and there wasn't nothing you could do about it.
So depending on what pat Riley or West he had
needed for Magic, he would give it to you. So
I'm not I'm not gonna put him above Magic, but
I would put him. He's gonna go down as one
(18:15):
of the greatest shooters. And that's a hell of a
complaint because there's been a lot of really good shooters.
I know the game has changed, but there's been a
lot of good shooters. I mean, look at Pistol Pete.
I mean, what if what if the three point line
was you know around, you know, for him in the beginning,
don't tell him what he could do, you know. So
the game has changed. But I love Steph Kerr. I'm
a big fan of him. I love the way he plays.
He doesn't go out there talking trash. He just goes
(18:36):
out there and plays. And you know, his teammates followed.
The one guy that I saw a little incident with
him and Pool with the situation where Draymond Green in
this series and Jerymond was trying to talk to Pool
and Pool just kind of get off me, and then
Steph came over there. And the one thing about Steph, Steph,
you know, he demands respect. He doesn't He doesn't, you know,
do a lot of talking, but he leads by example,
(18:58):
and that's what that's what a true leader does.
Speaker 6 (19:00):
And he went over there and he said something to Pool,
and then Pool got back on board to what they
were trying to do.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
Yeah, Pool wasn't bad yesterday. Stacey King, what a pleasure.
Seventeen years one of the Bulls voices and a ten
year run, a seventeen year run as an analyst, ten
year run as a player in three rings. Stacey here
you often continued success man.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
Thank you very much, Colin, thanks for having me, Bud.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
You bet, three time NBA champ. Great player at Oklahoma,
remember him? Dominant college player, great player at Oklahoma.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
I can't believe you remember that?
Speaker 5 (19:28):
He just called up to watch during the commercial Oklahoma
and Kansas nineteen eighty eight championship game, Danny Manning against
Stacy King.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Wyman Tisdale and Stacy King, two of the great college
bigs could run the floor score that's right of my wheel,
Scott Wayman Tisdale played a lot in Sacramento.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
He did.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Yeah, Stacey King was a great college player. It was
all sorts of fun. I can't wait for this series
so I think it goes. Is it go Tuesday Friday
for the Lakers Warrior Tuesday Thursday.
Speaker 5 (19:57):
Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, So Saturday night there's the big South
Bay Music Festival.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
I know we have tickets. I had to break it
to the.
Speaker 5 (20:05):
Wife this morning, like, if I could secure Lakers Warriors tickets,
I'm sorry, I've got I gotta go to that.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
You know you have?
Speaker 5 (20:11):
And then Game four Monday, should we try to make
an appearance there?
Speaker 4 (20:15):
You and I like each other?
Speaker 6 (20:17):
No?
Speaker 4 (20:17):
No, like, I got a guy who may be able
to deliver.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
Right, let's talk about it, Okay, all right, next Monday.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
Yeah, I can't wait for it. Got These playoffs have
been so much fun. Listen all the series ugly, Nick's
heat was ugly and it was fun.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
Well, Jimmy Butler's hurt.
Speaker 5 (20:32):
And also, I don't know if you've seen Joel Embiid,
looks like he's not gonna play games one or two out.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
Far game now Boston matches up well with them.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
Yeah, but keep an eye on that Sun's Nugget series.
Jamal Murray, But Jamal Murray, he was taking your words
to heart.
Speaker 2 (20:47):

Denver Phoenix Game two tonight. I'm sure you watched game
one on Saturday evening.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
I watched a little bit of the middle of it,
second third quarter in Denver. Just you know, I felt
like Phoenix hung around, but they didn't. They didn't shoot
the ball particularly they I guess the bottom line is
Denver is what they are good at home, very efficient.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
Yeah, three pointers were the difference.
Speaker 5 (21:44):
Denver made sixteen of them, Jamal Murray had thirty four,
Jokic had twenty four to nineteen boards. This is what's
troubling if you're a Sun's fan. They shot fifty one
percent from the field and they lost by eighteen.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Yeah, well, they had a lot of turnovers.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
They were a little sloppy.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
The Nuggets are running them off the three point line.
Speaker 5 (21:59):
They're just saying, hey, deviner, take all the eighteen footers
you want, KD.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
You can have these twelve footers they're yours. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
Well, Phoenix is a pull up jump shooting team.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
That plays right into the hands of Denver.
Speaker 5 (22:08):
By the way, Jokic put h DeAndre in a body
bag in Game one, just bullied him all.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
Over the court.
Speaker 5 (22:15):
Ayton did not want to smoke. I'm sure you've seen
the highlights. Like he's just kind of backing off Jokic.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
Look, he looked like a bot.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
I mean, Ayton's not a great offensive player, nor is
he a great defensive player.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
He's a great video game player.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
That's well, he's an athlete. He gives you some size,
but he's not an elite player on either end of
the floor. And Jokic offensively is an elite player. Passing screen,
He'll say, yeah, I mean he'll give you twenty two
and a half points, that's it. He'll give you twenty
two a game and feel like he dominated it.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
Yeah, this will be a series I ultimately think.
Speaker 5 (22:43):
Where Jamal Murray you love him well, listen, he's incredible
and Devin Booker gets all the love as well he should.
He's very good, he's cool. You know he dated one
of the Kendall Jenner Yeah, he drives all these old cars.
He's like a huge deal on Instagram. Everybody loves definitely
also at player. He's hell of a player. But Jamal
Murray ain't far behind him. And I'm just telling you
(23:04):
right now, Jamal Murray is going toe to toe with
him in the series, and when Denver wins the series,
we will be talking about Murray in the same category
as d book I'm just telling you Murray, people are
sleeping on him.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
Who do you like, mar Zach Levin or Jamal Murray?
Speaker 4 (23:16):
Jamal Murray he is he's an awesome blacker.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
Well, he's an all star level player, Zach sna Yeah.
Speaker 5 (23:21):
By the way, Chris Paul was complaining before the series
to his teammates, man, I got to chase Jamal Murray
around Monty Williams Game one.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
No, you're not, You're not doing that. You know We're
gonna put.
Speaker 5 (23:29):
Josha Kogi go on him and they had no chance this. Ultimately,
Booker may have to defend him next up Miami Heat. Yeah,
this game won against the Knicks. Knicks were awesome in
the first half. Yeah, were And then this Himmy Butler.
That's his new nickname, Jimmy Butler twenty five and eleven.
Speaker 4 (23:44):
He did get help from Kevin.
Speaker 5 (23:45):
Love, who had a couple of really nice fasts. Yeah,
and Kyle Lowry was a big block, big block.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
And then next time down Bam got a fucking inside
and it felt like it was a four point swing
and it was like it was it was like sixth
game block, Bam, game old.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
Now, the big story here is ankle injury for Butler.
Speaker 5 (24:06):
I read in the New York Daily News that it
was swollen in the locker room in the side of
a baseball And I don't think Butler's gonna be back
for game two. Well, let's just rule him out. But
there is like a break in the schedule, and there's
like a three day gate break before game three.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
Okay, so really, just don't play him in game two.
Just don't play him.
Speaker 4 (24:24):
And hope he comes back.
Speaker 5 (24:25):
Yeah, but there's a chance he miss his Game three too. Now,
Julius Randalls did not play in game one. They probably
could have used him because they couldn't make outside shots.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
It was they kind of it was weird.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
They you know, when you get into these close games,
just get the ball to Jalen Brunson, get the ball
to Jimmy Butler, get the ball to your star.
Speaker 5 (24:40):
Like.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
They went into a heavy RJ. Barrett rotation.
Speaker 5 (24:42):
Do you remember a couple years ago Miami shut down
Giannis by building a wall at the foul line and
Giannis like could not get through it. And they did
that to Jalen Brunston anytime he came into the lane.
Second half, there was three guys like walling him off,
kicking it out to Barrett, Barrett spraying it all over
the court, Obi top in his jacketing like eleven three.
Speaker 4 (25:00):
Yeah, hit a lot of them. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (25:02):
I think the Knicks will be fine. I just didn't
love that second half at home. You wanted to get
Game one snatched, you know, get the series.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Nick's history is that they lose Game one at home,
they lose the series.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
Let's not talk about that, all right.
Speaker 5 (25:15):
Game three, I'm sorry, not Game three, Game one Sixers
and Celtics their second round series.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Boston's gonna fly through against.
Speaker 5 (25:21):
Tonight, Boston. I saw favored by ten. Joel Embiid is
doubtful for Game one with the knee injury. I know
everybody's gonna want to go bet Boston, but just just
know that Boston's gonna see, oh my god, we got
home court advantage with the Bucks gone.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
No, Joel Embiid, we got this. They let their guard
down a little. This could be close.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
Max he has a twenty eight to thirty two point game.
Speaker 5 (25:41):
Game might need forty him or Harden. Somebody's gonna have
to go off. I like the Celtics in the series
where he think five or six and what.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Are we gonna make in the Philadelphia seventy six.
Speaker 5 (25:51):
I think when they say that Joel Embiid tried his
butt off to get the MVP, got it and then
it gets.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
Hurt in first round, well, I also think you got
to move off hard and I try to move TOAs Harris,
it's Mbid, Maxie and get different pieces.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
That's what it feels like to me.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
I mean, how long can you not be able to
get win a second playoff series?
Speaker 5 (26:07):
You got to Joel Embid's never been to the conference.
I know we talk about him like he's one of
the greatest players in the history of this sport.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
They have a championship winning coach, an MVP level player,
and ascending Star Azure two.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
You can move all the other pieces.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
I would just I would go Maxie and be Doc
and just move as many pieces as I could. You
like docer got a title. I watched him. I watched
him when a title?
Speaker 5 (26:30):
How many blowed three one seriously to the most in
NBA history.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
I wonder what the complaints are going to be.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Brown was Coach of the Year and I thought he
got worked a little yesterday.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
Well, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
I wish I could ask him, why did you pull
davey on Mitchell from the series?
Speaker 4 (26:44):
But like eight minutes in game seven?
Speaker 1 (26:46):
I know just I think when you Tibbs is a
great coach, and I thought he got worked late.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
That didn't pick on Jimmy Butler go after him a gay.
Speaker 5 (26:55):
Hear they had like ten straight possessions. Butler's hobbling around
and they don't attack him.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
What lebron Jimmy Butler?
Speaker 1 (27:02):
Some of it? Some of that to me is on
players like Jimmy awareness h Like, okay, guys, Jimmy's limping,
go right at it can always be the coach. Sometimes
you have to figure out how to play basketball.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
Yeah, and you know a lot about oops. You were
a high school star.
Speaker 3 (27:16):
Right, No, I wasn't eleven a game.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
That's good.
Speaker 5 (27:21):
You couldn't maybe cut it in our men nine not anymore?
Speaker 6 (27:25):
All right?
Speaker 3 (27:26):
Is that it? J Mack with the news.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
herd Line News.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
Albert Brer joins us last hour. How much I watched
the draft all the way to the last pick?
Speaker 3 (27:38):
Did you? Did you watch a lot of it?
Speaker 5 (27:39):
I was fortunate enough I didn't have a lot going
on Saturdays, so I thought.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
The Rams had my favorite late round pick, Zach Evans,
running back Old Miss. I think he could start at
some point in the next two years. That was my
favorite six or seven round pick. And they had my
least favorite pick in the fourth round, which is Stetson Bennett.
I don't understand if you have holes as a franchise,
why you take an absolute no higher than backup player.
(28:03):
I think McVeigh wanted. He wanted the kid from Fresno
State who went one pick in front of him, And
I think what McVeigh said is I don't want Stafford.
I want him having off days in camp because I
don't want him to get arm fatigue. So I think
they had to get a quarterback in to take a
majority of the snaps in OTAs in preseason. They just
(28:26):
don't they want They know they can get Stafford through
seventeen games, but they don't want the arm fatigue of
last year. So I think they wanted the Fresno State kid,
and when he got picked, they went to stets In Bennett,
who to me is a no chance to be an
NFL starter.
Speaker 5 (28:39):
Yeah, it's weird. Can I give you a team that
I loved what they did this weekend? All right, nobody's
talking about him. Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
Oh no, they did a good job.
Speaker 5 (28:46):
So they get a left tackle the kid brought her,
just steal him from the Jets. And then they get
Darnell Washington, the great blocking tight end from Georgia who
had like a first round grade from Daniel Jeremiah.
Speaker 4 (28:55):
Some guys goes third round. Then they get another.
Speaker 5 (28:57):
Interior alignment, and then they kept it with Wisconsin kid
Nick herbig three year starter, relentless getting to the pass rusher.
I'm just telling you there is a case where the
Steelers steal this division from Baltimore. Everybody's talking about Lamar
and your producer's Bengals. I know everybody loves Joe Burrow.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
I get it. Schedules tough next year. I just keep
an eye on the Pittsbill steel.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
Got Joey Porter.
Speaker 6 (29:22):
No.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
I thought the three teams that are good teams. That
added three, three to four starters, Seahawks, Packers, Steelers, Seahawks.
But I said the Texans, the Tankers, Oh, those two
tight ends and their edge rusher, those are three starters.
I thought they those are good tight ends. And those guys.
Musgrave at Oregon State was banged up. He is sensational.
(29:44):
I don't cave got all the love at Utah. Musk
Grave's great.
Speaker 5 (29:47):
I don't focus on last place team. So I didn't
really look into what the Packers are doing. But yeah,
Pittsburgh Steelers, I really like they did.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
Steelers had a great draft.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
Detroit Lions. They rebounded. You know the trade of swift.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
I know, by the way, what do you swift?
Speaker 4 (30:00):
And Philly like? How might how many Georgia Bulldogs do
the Philadelphi Eagles have?
Speaker 3 (30:05):
What's wrong with that?
Speaker 4 (30:06):
Nothing? How did they get all of them.
Speaker 5 (30:08):
Where nobody's on this like Eagles have to be Can
I say overwhelming favorites in the NFC, like who's even second?
Speaker 1 (30:15):
No, I think they have to be overwhelming favorites. Then
I would say I think Seattle had a hell of
a draft, went and got three starters.
Speaker 4 (30:25):
Yeah, you gotta wonder about san Fran taking the kicker.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
By the way, can I defend Seattle on taking Zach Sharbonnhaught?
So the running back from Ucla, so as Bucky Brooks
talked about on this show, I think it was Thursday
or Friday. If you have a good quarterback, running back
becomes more essential, like Dak Prescott, Zeke and Tony Pollard.
Do you have Justin Herbert Austin Eckler's fine, he's a
(30:51):
good player.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
You don't need another.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
So to have Kenneth Walker last year out of Michigan
State rookie and then go get Zach from UCLA. Those
are really good backs, so it's less reliance on Gino.
Then they go get Jackson Smith and Jig but the
receiver from Ohio State and go with DK Metcalf and Lockett.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
They have no offent.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
You look up and You're like, they just took more
off of Gino Smith's plate. Great, the best slot receiver
in the draft, and to me an argument, second or
third best running back.
Speaker 5 (31:25):
And they got Witherspoon to start opposite wooland they're gonna
be going back from last year Joel Adams's back.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
They got Bobby Wagner back.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
So we thought Gino Smith would have a pullback, But
when you look at what they added to him, it's like, no,
they said, no, we don't want just one back because
Walker got hurt. We're gonna have two Starbucks. That's Pete
Carroll football.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
You need you kind of need to.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
I think you do it again. You don't if you're
the Chiefs. You don't if you're the That's why the
Bengals can move off Joe Mixon and be like, we're fine.
But when you have Gino or Dak or Kirk Cousins,
having two running backs just takes more off the plate.
So it's like I thought, Seattle and Pittsburgh and Green
Bay they went and got starters to really help out
(32:07):
their quarterbacks. Gino, Jordan Love, and Kenny Pickett.
Speaker 2 (32:10):

Speaker 8 (32:28):
We all know you sick and tired of these stupid
sports shows where the hosts say stupid things like Tom Brady's.
Speaker 5 (32:33):
The goats or Lebron James is good at basketball, which
he is clearly not.
Speaker 6 (32:38):
See.

We give you smart takes, and we also bring on
so called famous guests from across the sports world.

iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
Oh, it's great to be here. I don't know if
you noticed the New York Jets paraded Aaron Rodgers around
New York. He was at the Knicks game, and he
was at the Rangers game. Only thing missing was a
Broadway play. He'll probably be ringing the bell on Wall
Street here this afternoon. A lot of Aaron Rodgers very
(33:20):
much a honeymoon period, nice to the media, positive vibes,
smiles all weekend. People tend to revert back to who
they are whatever. In Green Bay, Aaron struggled with young
offensive pieces, and the Jets have a lot of young
offensive pieces. So I'm very interested to watch how it
plays out. But I think the thing that's most captivating
(33:41):
to me with Aaron with the Jets is in Green Bay,
Aaron had control the organization. He had so much embedded
in the organization. He had such great history. There was
such an investment with Aaron Rodgers. It's really a one
year lease with the Jets. If he's great the city,
you'll love him, they'll get rid of him. They have
(34:01):
nothing invested. It's a one year deal. It is not marriage.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
It's dating.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
You can move off dating. It's very complicated with marriage.
That's why moving off Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay was very,
very complicated.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
The exit was bad.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
The previous two off seasons were bumpy because they had
so much invested in him. It is like a divorce.
But it's just dating in New York, and dating is
fun and flashy, and we go to the big game
and everybody's smiling and it's always a good time. What
happens when he doesn't connect with young players. Maybe he does,
(34:37):
But the Jets culture is defense. It's a defensive head coach.
Their best players are on defense. They stayed and won
seven games last year with a lousy offense because of
their defense and their defensive culture. So I think it's
going to be one. I said this before. If you
look at the history of New York, when guys come
in with some flash, even young guys like Sanchez or
(34:57):
Jeremy Shockey out of college, John Carlow, Stanton Brett Farr,
Carmelo Anthony, when you come into New York a rod
as a star, you're treated differently. The expectations are different.
Most of the people that become New York legends, Derek Jeter,
Aaron Judge, you know, I mean look around the giants.
(35:22):
Eli Manning, low key, not flashy, don't know a ton
about it. Jalen Brunson, second round villanova guy, MAVs didn't
give him the money comes in. Most of New York
stars don't come in with huge expectations because the city
is so big and overwhelming and fast and frenetic, and
(35:44):
talk radio matters and the media columnists. It's like the
seventies media, seventies eighties media. The media has huge influence.
If you come in as a star, they're gonna ask
a lot of questions. There's gonna be overwhelming expectations. So
to me, he's a one year lease. If it's you know,
Brett Farv started great, ended bumpy, and then it got
really ugly. I can't wait to watch it. I think
(36:06):
the Jets are officially the most interesting team. I don't
know if they're the best team. I think if Tua
is healthy, they're gonna be battling for a playoff spot.
If Tua gets banged up, they'll be fine. The New
England Patriots once again had the world's strangest draft. They
drafted kickers and guards through the slowest offense in the league.
I'll I can't figure out the New England Patriots. I
don't get their drafting. I thought the Rams had my
(36:28):
favorite late pick and my least favorite middle pick, Stetson Bennett.
I don't get he's a backup in the fourth round.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
You got needs.
Speaker 1 (36:35):
Zach Evans is a running back in the sixth round
out of Ole Miss. Is fantastic. That dude could come in.
He could start next year and you wouldn't be shocked.
He is a bull. He is hard to bring down,
even in the SEC, which has NFL bodies everywhere. Zach
Evans is a great player. So there you go. That's
my that's my summation of the weekend. J Mack, be honest,
little honeymoon love with Aaron Rodgers. What was your take
(36:57):
on it?
Speaker 4 (36:58):
I was excited. I think I sent you a text.
Speaker 5 (36:59):
I was like, look at Rogers really embracing the young
guys going to a hockey game, going to an NBA game.
Speaker 4 (37:05):
We could pull up the Romeo.
Speaker 5 (37:07):
Dobbs video from earlier this season or offseason where he
was asked about did you hang out with Aaron Rodgers?
Speaker 4 (37:14):
He's like, I never saw him.
Speaker 5 (37:15):
Once outside of the practice facility football field, Like, never once.
Speaker 4 (37:18):
Rogers already hanging out with the dudes. Colin, This is a.
Speaker 5 (37:21):
Great sign if you're a Jets fan. Has to be amazing.
And oh, by the way, you want a better sign.
I looked at the Patriots just now after you took
a shot. Did you see he dt lowist wind total
in the division. They were projected to be in the
cellar in the AFC East seven and a half. I mean,
they don't have skill position players and they draft, they
wait till the sixth round to get Kayshawn Butte, the
kid from LSU.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
Who's got a lot of stuff that's in.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
A baggage, and like that's your pickup. That's it.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
And by the way, they brought in Juju Smith Schuster
who doesn't separate, and he gets injured a lot and
he cost a lot of money. I keep saying this,
this sounds outrageous. If you were tying trying to sabotage
an organization, you'd run off Tom Brady. You'd draft a
quarterback in mac Jones and you'd make his life a
living hell and give him a defensive coordinator. You'd spend
a ton on free agency, nobody's really great outside of
(38:09):
the one judon, and then you'd draft slow players and
interior alignment. So if you leave and then you put
your kids on the staff. I watch what New England's doing,
and I just they have no feel for I mean, again,
we all need guards, three kickers two.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
I did like the Christian Gonzales. I don't like it.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
I mean I thought they had a couple of defensive
picks I liked. I mean, they do a very good
job on the defensive side. I'm not Belichick knows his defense,
but the league is pivoted. You got to get yourself weapons.
I mean Kansas City's adding weapons. The Chargers have two
great receivers. Their first pick another weapon.
Speaker 4 (38:45):
I didn't love that one.
Speaker 5 (38:46):
But just to drill down on the Patriots for second, Colin,
this is a team that's, you know, going backwards, yes,
and they're putting all their eggs in. Oh, you got
a new offensive coordinator who knows football, Like that's that's
all you got going for the paper.
Speaker 1 (38:58):
I thought that, Hey, I thought the Bill give them credit.
The Bills went and got Damian Harris are running back.
They drafted another tight end. I thought the Bills at
least tried to pretend like they like offense. I mean
they went and I think they got an offensive lineman
as well.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
That offensive line is a bit of a question mark.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
I like their center and that's about it.
Speaker 5 (39:19):
They did not have. They didn't really bolster the offensive
line much. And kin Kid, obviously he's very good. I
see some regression here, but that's just me. Maybe there'll
be year two and I know I'm a Jets fan,
but that I just can't get over scoring ten points
against the Bengals.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
Well, that's just one.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
I know, Cincinnati.
Speaker 4 (39:37):
Bengals missing three offensive linemen or something in that game.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
Cincinnati is a good team. So I want to come
out tomorrow with my post free agent and draft NFL prediction.
Speaker 4 (39:47):
Wait, when is the schedule coming out?
Speaker 3 (39:49):
May eleventh? Right?
Speaker 4 (39:50):
So we got like ten days on.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
May eleventh is one of my favorite days of the year.
Speaker 5 (39:54):
That's a week to start going buck wild with predictions
on the season.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
I'm so excited.
Speaker 1 (39:59):
I honest feel like after the draft and free agency, Pittsburgh,
what do I do with Pittsburgh? Now? What do I
do with Seattle?
Speaker 3 (40:06):
Now?
Speaker 5 (40:06):
Give me a sexy division winner not named Seattle or Detroit.
What do you mean a division winner that's not one
of those two.
Speaker 4 (40:13):
We both like.
Speaker 1 (40:14):
I think Carolina is going to surprise people.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
I know.
Speaker 1 (40:17):
I think Carolina and Houston are the two bad teams
that may double their wind.
Speaker 4 (40:23):
To Oh goodness, Scott, listen, you gotta pump the break.
Speaker 1 (40:26):
Who called the DeAndre Swift trade?
Speaker 6 (40:28):
That was you?
Speaker 1 (40:29):
Yes, called it like Wednesday.
Speaker 4 (40:32):
You're serious about CJ strouding the Texans.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
I think he's a capable start.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
We'll do we'll do it. I think Gardner Minshew starts
for the Colts.
Speaker 5 (40:40):
Richardson comes in midway through the season, and Stichen and
Richardson have some magic.
Speaker 4 (40:45):
Keep an eye on the Colts
Speaker 3 (40:46):
Hour three next
