You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Here we go, Friday hour two, Fired up Lies in
Los Angeles. It's The Herd. Whatever platform you're on, thanks
for making us part of your day. I have a
very interesting topic in about five minutes I'm gonna get
to before I get to my picks. Now, I will
admit I'm gonna stay away from Chiefs Lions. I want
(00:49):
to watch the game. I think it's a field goal
game either way. I think Kansas City is better than
people think, but I think Detroit's run game is demoralizing
and clock controlling and difficult, so I'm gonna stay away
from that. I'm taking some ugly teams this week.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
I have no fears, so I'll be discussing Ceast Lions later.
Some numbers for you not great for your number one
team in the heart hierarch.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
So let me just say this you feast on ugly teams.
You bet Carolina more than like Carolina guy at but
I I got my picks this week and I like him.
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Let's blaze it up up.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
It's Collins blazing fuck Seahawks at check.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Ah Seattle plus one and a half go money line.
They're gonna win this puppy out right. One of five
teams to hold a fourth quarter lead in every game.
Even the games they lost, they could have won. Number
two scoring offense. Since Week two. They've been a great
road team with Mike McDonald eight game road winning streak,
and donald is on an absolute eater in his last
(01:53):
three weeks of passer rating over one thirty. The Jags
on short rest off a highly emotion no win, probably
the biggest Jags win in several years. Offensively, they are
terrible on third down. The Seahawks played their worst defensive
game of the season. They'll be in a bad mood.
(02:14):
Watch Seattle's defense come back. Revert to what we know.
They are the turnover regression for Jacksonville. They're not going
to keep getting three and four turnovers a game. Seattle
wins outright in a bad mood. Cross Country thirty twenty seven.
Hawks rebound from that loss last week.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Patriots six seat.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Take the under Patriots Saints under forty five and a
half points. Neither team runs the ball right. Patriots and
Saints are scoring under twenty points in half their games
this year. New England's again coming off an emotional, dramatic,
tough road win. I think they come back down to earth.
I think they win, but it's going to be ugly
(02:57):
and low scoring. They're a top ten scoring defense. Christian
Gonzalez now he's back. It's hard to throw on them.
The Saints Spencer Rattler's interesting nine touchdown passes an eleven
career starts. These are two teams still finding their way.
Can't run the ball. Patriots win, but take the under.
(03:18):
Let's say at twenty one to twenty ugly choppie game.
Take the under.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Chargers at DOLFHI.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Can't believe it, but I'm gonna take Miami plus the
four and a half. Listen two at home has been
good his last seven home games. He's not the problem.
One twelve passer rating. Chargers could be on their third
running back and their third left tackle. They are a
mess and what that does they settle for field goals.
(03:47):
They are struggling in the red zone, so even if
they dominate time of possession, they're not gonna dominate in
the red zone. Justin Herbert, three straight games with at
least one interception. So I get a team traveling cross
country on backups to backups, a Miami coach fighting for
his career, and they're getting four and a half at home.
(04:11):
I think I'm gonna take the Dolphins. Chargers probably win
this game twenty four to twenty three. I'm absolutely taking
the points with the Dolphins. Titan said Raiders again, I'm
betting ugly this week. I like the Raiders minus three
and a half. They're coming off a humiliating road loss.
(04:32):
What the teams do when they're humiliated. The Giants got
humiliated last week they beat the Eagles. They have found
a rushing game with Ashton genty. Look at the last
two weeks for the Raiders one hundred and seventy three
yards rushing yards per game. So they're gonna lean on that.
And folks, Tennessee's awful forget to win last week. They're awful. Hell,
(04:56):
the twenty points are fewer and four to five games
allowing six yards of play, so again, I don't love Gino.
I think they're gonna run the ball. It's gonna be ugly.
The Raiders were humiliated. Maybe it's one of their few
wins on the year, but I'm gonna take it. Swallow
the points. Twenty six seventeen over. What I think in
(05:18):
Tennessee right now is easily the worst team in the league.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Bears at Commanders.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
My favorite bet of the week is the Commander's minus
four and a half. They're two and zero at home,
both blowout wins last three weeks, averaging twenty seven plus
points in three games. Okay, so they're getting points on
the board. Jayden Daniels last week looked excellent according to PFF.
They also have the best special teams and their defense
is getting after it upfront. So I think you're gonna
(05:46):
see the Washington of last year. Terry mcclaurin could play
the Bears. They've lost four straight in prime time. They're
not a rise to the moment franchise. They've been a
bad road team forever. Their defense is allowing the most yards.
Do you know that lost in all this Caleb Williams discussion.
Their defense is allowing six points, seven yards of play.
(06:06):
It's atrocious. The Commanders win thirty three twenty six. J
Mack doesn't love my picks. I'm taking some ugly I'm
taking the points in Miami. At home, I'm taking the Raiders.
Raiders had the Bears beat last week if not for
that field goal. You don't like my picks. You know
what happened.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
If you lie down with dogs, you get fleas colin
and there there's some gross this year, so I respect that.
By the way, did you look at the Seahawks' injury report.
Three of the four starters in the secondary maybe down
this week? Not great at all against Trevor Lawrence who's
slinging it.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
So you're gonna take a team to take it. That
is literally kind of bipolarish at home after the most
important win for the franchise national TV game in years.
I mean, let's be honest about Jacksonville. When's the last
time they played back to back great games against good teams.
Here's what I'm surprised that you're taking close spreads. There's
some big ones out there.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Big.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
It looks like Lamar's not going to go inter sults
are big. Looks like Kyler's on this show what did
I do a week ago?
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Bills are going to crush the same Packers are going
to crush the Cowboys. Chargers are going to crush the
Giants last what was last night? Eagle is going to
crush I stayed away from all of them, all right,
But you know what game I actually like. I could
be out of my mind here, don't tell me. Dolphins. Raiders. Yeah,
(07:27):
that you're out of your mind for.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
So when you when you they're running the ball now right,
good run defense to I mean, I can just think
at everything else and you're not good.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
So I want you to think about this. I'm not
saying it's true, but I just want you to think
about it. When Russell Wilson was dominating the league, we
were absolutely sure Hall of Famer, magical. The future of
the sport is Jalen Hurts. Think about this the next
(08:01):
Russell Wilson. Oh, let me throw some things at you.
Both are undersized, but thick and athletic. Both had to
transfer in college. Their coaches were like, yeah, I'm going
to start somebody else in college. Both throw a nice
(08:22):
deep ball, but neither was a first round pick. Both
are playmakers from the pocket, but they're not pocket quarterbacks.
Russell Wilson and Jalen very successful with stacked rosters when
they have a run game and a great defense. Both
two super Bowls, win one, lose one. We like their personalities,
(08:43):
but neither is beloved by teammates. I've been told that
about Jalen Hurts. We've seen it with Russell and in
their Super Bowl winning season. In Russ's and in Jalen,
they threw under two hundred year yards Russell seven times,
Hurts eight. There's a lot of similarities to the thick, mature, elusive,
(09:14):
not great from the pocket. How many times has Greg
co Cell come on this show? He did it for
years with Russell Wilson, he said, Russell Wilson has planned
ad libs. He's not great from the pocket. That's why,
said Greg Cosell, he often throws the deep ball because
he's not good in the middle of the field. What
did Greg Cosell say this week about Jalen Hurts. He
(09:38):
doesn't throw the ball well over the middle of the field.
Go listen to Greg co Cell with Russell in his
prime and Jalen. It's the same thing. It's the same thing.
Consistently under two hundred yards when you've got the players
so and I loved Russell and I'm the defender at
(09:59):
all costs, which hurts, But I mean now you got
players only meetings A J Brown. Jalen Hurts drama. Russell
had teammate drama. Here was Jalen on his struggles last night.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
I want to go out there and play the type
of ball we know we're capable of playing, and a
lot of that, you know, for the Brandon both kind
of established ourselves to play. It's been playing with good detail,
being smarter situations, and being able to capitalize on some
of these big point swings in the game. And so
we got to be a better We got to do
a better job at that. And I have to leave
(10:35):
better in terms of executing in those situations because it
starts with me in the red zone in two minutes.
Speaker 6 (10:42):
Operationally.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
Oh, he's great at the podium. Russell Wilson always been
great at the podium. Mature, start, start, You don't like
the comms. But by the way, last week, when I
suggested Russell Wilson wouldn't be a Hall of Famer, push back.
Would you vote in Jalen Hurts to the Hall of fame.
(11:04):
I mean, neither's a first round pick, neither great from
the pocket, neither beloved by teammates. Both get to a
couple Super Bowls, but even in their super Bowl winning seasons,
half the games they are under two hundred yards. Both
had drama with some teammates. I'm not saying it's out there,
(11:25):
but it's interesting.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Is it not?
Speaker 1 (11:28):
Kind of interesting? Just you know, I'm not saying it
with great conviction. I'm saying it with great curiosity, but
it's it's kind of interesting. Our quarterback whisper is around
the corner, Brady Quinn shows up. We got I'm telling you, Oregon, Indiana, USC, Michigan,
(11:51):
just a couple of them. You didn't think last weekend?
Remember last weekend? College football? Oh, Penn State, Ucla. There
was about a four hour stretch last Saturday. Is crazy Florida, Texas,
Penn State, Ucla, Washington coming from behind on the East
coast to beat Maryland Tomorrow is going to be really interesting.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
For Jordan Palmer, former NFL quarterback, the founder of Quarterback Summit.
It's a program that helps quarterbacks reach their potential. He
is joining us on a day in which we think
the New York Giants have found their franchis quarterback. And Jordan,
it could be bon Nix, it could be Josh Allen.
It's always turbulent. This is not a summer flight to Arizona.
(13:07):
It's bumpy, hits rough. So I watched Jackson Dart last week,
and then I watch him this week, and I look
at quarterbacks and I go, can he make throws or
make plays that I'm like, Wow, that's special. I think
I've seen special with Jackson Dart. Not consistent, what do
(13:28):
you see you're the master at this what do you see?
Speaker 9 (13:31):
Well, I just like to keep it simple, and he's
two in one, and I'm not concerned with who they
lost to and who they beat, because you could make
the argument, man, how do you lose to the Saints?
And then you can also make the same argument and
go how they beat the Eagles? I think he's two
and one, And he's two and one with three big obstacles,
which makes it more impressive.
Speaker 6 (13:51):
One is personnel.
Speaker 9 (13:52):
We saw last night on the broadcast all the players
that aren't playing at receiver for them, right, I mean,
I'm like googling these guys' names.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Right.
Speaker 9 (14:01):
So the one is, you know he's playing with with
you know, a short deck, an empty cabinet, whatever cliche
you want to use. Where you got Wandell Robinson's his
go to guy? Okay, So that's one.
Speaker 6 (14:10):
Two, he's playing on a team that's lost more than
they've won.
Speaker 9 (14:13):
I'm not calling them losers, but they've lost more than
they've won this franchise the last few years. And so
you're not entering into a well oiled machine where everyone
is accustomed to winning the close game, right.
Speaker 6 (14:27):
And then three, he's a rookie. And I've said this on.
Speaker 9 (14:31):
Your show before, and we've talked about this off camera,
is I think quarterbacks are survivalists and they got to
do what they got to do to survive, and early
in guys careers, and there's a connection here to Josh
Allen on this too, sometimes you got to run around
and make plays. I don't think his career he's going
to average fifty yards rushing a game, but he has
through his first three starts because he's had to. These
(14:51):
aren't designed quarterback runs. These are plays that he's making,
and so you know he's he's doing all three. He's
handling all three of those obstacles well to the tune
of two and one. And the other thing that's overarching
on this is that, like the elephant in the room, like,
he's also doing it in New York where everything's overscrutinized,
and a lot of young quarterbacks have a hard time
(15:12):
doing that.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
So I want to ask you about Listen, there's a
lot of smart offensive guys out there in the league
and out of it, like yourself, Kyle Shanahan. I thought
Mac Jones it was done. I thought his temperament was off.
I had heard things inside the building at New England
that were not winning kind of quarterback traits from people
I trust, And all of a sudden he goes and
(15:34):
he's humble and he's always thrown a nice ball. What
is I mean? Kyle obviously is just better than most
at this? Is it the talking? The dialogue?
Speaker 6 (15:46):
Is?
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Is it mechanics?
Speaker 6 (15:47):
Like?
Speaker 1 (15:48):
What is it about Kyle and quarterbacks that almost always
elevates them?
Speaker 9 (15:53):
Well, Colin, you're a world class communicator, right, and so
at some point you learned a lot of how to communicate.
Speaker 6 (16:00):
Right.
Speaker 9 (16:01):
So for me, when I was doing more public speaking
and get in front, I used to watch this guy,
Simon Sinek, and he has this famous video where it's
all about the why. Whether you're in sales, whether you're
trying to have a take on TV where you're trying
to lead a room full of people, you got to
have a take. His thing was about the why, and
I really took that as a coach, and the more
I can connect why somebody needs to do something as
(16:23):
opposed to what to do, the more helpful I've been
as a coach, and now as I have clients college
and pro and even high school where the coaches. I've
just come to the conclusion coaches tell you what to do,
but not necessarily why to do it, and maybe they
know why, but they have a hard time explaining it.
Speaker 6 (16:38):
I didn't really.
Speaker 9 (16:39):
Learn this about Kyle Shanahan, though I've known him a
long time. I have a I interviewed with him when
he was the quarterback coach at the Houston Texans when
I was at the Combine. I mean, I've known this
guy forever, but until Sam Darnold went there to back
up Brock, who.
Speaker 6 (16:51):
I've spent a lot of time with Sam and really understood.
Speaker 5 (16:54):
Oh.
Speaker 6 (16:55):
I think that's what it is about Kyle Shanahan.
Speaker 9 (16:57):
He gets all this love for his play design and
how he used his personnel.
Speaker 6 (17:01):
I don't know, it's subjective.
Speaker 9 (17:02):
I don't know if he does that better than everyone,
but I think and been learning how Sam's experience and
how much he grew in one year of not starting was.
I think Kyle helps quarterbacks understand why they are doing
this footwork, Why we are going to have this guy
outside release and then cross his face, Why we are
going to set run.
Speaker 6 (17:23):
This to set that up?
Speaker 9 (17:24):
And I just think Kyle's why as it pertains to
helping quarterbacks understand the nuances of the offense is why
guys go there and play their best football. And it's
also why and credit to my business partner Mike White,
who's a Niner fan and works with all the guys
with go back to that draft of Mac Jones, because
we had Trevor Lawrence in our group, Mac Jones and
Trey Lance and all that, which is why Mike from
(17:46):
day one has been saying Max Jones is a perfect
fit in Kyle shanahan offense. Don't worry about what he
can't do, and so he's he's getting some you know,
some love for that right now, because as we've seen
through three games with Max Jones, it doesn't matter what
Mac Jones can't do.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
He can do all the things that Kyle requires. So
you never gave up on Sam Donald. He and Baker
put on a clinic last week. It was one of
the most entertaining games I've seen. It was I mean,
it was Canadian Football League. It was just up and
down the field, and you never gave up on Donald.
I wondered if he could ever get the reckless I've
(18:23):
always said this, you can coach a lot can you
get the reckless out of Carson Wentz or Sam Donald?
I didn't know if you could. Why didn't you give
up on Donald when everybody else did? Well?
Speaker 9 (18:36):
If you go back to Sam in high school, in college,
she was a playmaker, right and there was some incredible
memories from college, you know, Rosebull, MVP and all that stuff,
some high highs. But I remember going through the draft
process with Sam and every GM and owner wanted to
talk about the fact that he was a fumbler.
Speaker 6 (18:51):
And I think he had like eleven his last year
at I see, and then you go.
Speaker 9 (18:54):
Through this first couple of years in the NFL, and
I don't have the stats in front of me, but
he was a fumbler. And it's not the coaches didn't
tell him keep two hands on the ball. But even
that clip right there, as he's transitioning from right to left,
going through his front side, you know he's bought into
this idea that movement and being under control can allow
you to not take your hand off the ball to
(19:16):
get going and running.
Speaker 6 (19:17):
And so we're.
Speaker 9 (19:19):
Coming up on twenty something games where he hasn't taken
his left hand off the ball in a situation where
he hasn't or where he shouldn't, And so it's that
sounds really in the weeds and detailed. The reason I never
give up on him is because he's been focused on
a bunch of things like that, He's willing to get
drugged through the m out of New York, be a bust,
hear all the things that everybody says about him, and
(19:39):
just every off season reset.
Speaker 6 (19:42):
And so I think I've said this to you, Colin.
Speaker 9 (19:44):
There's certain quarterbacks like Sam, like my brother where because
they have the ability to reset every year, regardless if
it was terrible or awesome, because the way they don't
cut corners ever, and they do all the little things right,
and their ability to block out all the noise. Players
like that, and obviously with a lot of talent. I've
been telling them, and I've been telling Sam for about
(20:04):
five years now, the same line over and over and
over again. There will be a time and a place
for All you have to do is play to the
best of your abilities, and you'll be in every game
with a chance to make a run at the end, verbatim.
And that's what we're seeing here out of Sam and Baker, right.
And I know you've had your issues with Baker over
the years. I didn't necessarily disagree with you. But it's
when you're winning and it works and it's in the
(20:25):
right environment, it's.
Speaker 6 (20:27):
Not a problem.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
Yeah, no, I said this. Cleveland is a rough environment,
a pulsive owner, kind of a bitter press. Everybody in
Cleveland poke Baker in the ribs, and everybody in Tampa
opens doors for him. It's more chill. He's got a
very supportive GM and owner. An environment for people with
fiery personalities is key. So there's two questions I want
to ask you. Fifteen quarterbacks now have one hundred plus
(20:49):
passer rating fifteen and it was six two years ago.
Some of this is there's a lot of good offensive
coaches out there. Some of it maybe we've had very nice,
warm fall weather. Even in Buffalo it's eighty degrees. Maybe
it's that. Maybe it's because everybody plays zone so it's
a kind of throw to a spot, and these guys
from seven on seven to coaching, you know, yourself included,
(21:11):
they're just these guys are good beating up zones. I
don't know what it is, but it's like the Golden Age.
Is it the quarterback? Is it the coaching. Is it
the zone defense? Half the league is one hundred passer wady?
Speaker 9 (21:23):
Why, Well, I don't think it's the defense because as
I watch tape every week, there's a bunch of stuff
people are running on third down that didn't exist three
years ago, and it continually evolves.
Speaker 6 (21:35):
So I don't think it's the defense.
Speaker 9 (21:36):
Right These these pass rushers aren't getting a little skinnier
and a little slower. But I think what it is
is the quarterback and the offensive coordinators ability to manufacture
more hypercentage throws.
Speaker 6 (21:48):
And it sounds simple, right, like, let's just.
Speaker 9 (21:49):
Get the ball out of your hands and let your
playmakers make plays, says every coach ever. We got a
big you know, the little bill's third and fourth grade flag.
We play tomorrow with my fourth grader. We're going to
operate under the same pretense of let's get the ball
out of our hands and let our guys eat. But
I think it's being on the same page and the evolution,
like we've talked about in how high school and college
what quarterbacks are asked to do, and I think there's
(22:11):
more ways to in with motions and with shifts and
with formations to be able to create more high percentage throws.
So if I can just have a quarterback get five
more completions a game and they average four to eight
yards of completion, you start doing simple math. That might
move your pastor rating up five, six, ten points right there.
Speaker 6 (22:35):
And that's if you're not throwing the playmakers.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
Yeah, okay, one more pro and then college. Jalen Hurts.
Greg Cosell's been saying this. He said it years ago
about Russell. He said, Colin, he throws a deep ball,
some of it out of necessity, doesn't You can see
there's times there's stuff open in the middle of the field.
He doesn't see it. And Jalen Hurts similarly, Greg co
(22:58):
Sell has said to me times he just doesn't see
stuff in the middle. He's very good up the sidelines,
great kid, accurate. I watch Jalen Hurts and there it
does appear that he is better throwing outside than the
interior where Brady lived or Manning lived. It kind of
makes sense, Jordan, because offensive lineman, how are six seven
(23:22):
like that's what the world has produced. When you watch
Jalen Hurts and the struggles, what do you see?
Speaker 9 (23:29):
Well, I just think I'm not going to say it
has nothing to do with him and his personal like
his game.
Speaker 6 (23:35):
But you keep replacing coordinators every year, and.
Speaker 9 (23:40):
Because whether excuse me, whether you're doing that because your
team is struggling or because your team's in the Super
Bowl every year, either way you start shifting coordinators.
Speaker 6 (23:48):
The media and the fans want to make it about scheme.
Speaker 9 (23:51):
This guy's a good coordinator, that guy's a bad coordinator.
But the reality is you don't get that continuity, and
you can't continue to get to like level four, level
five levels in protections, in routes, in reads and combinations.
I think one of the most underrated thing in sports
that I don't see owners do is say, we've got
a great offensive coordinator, let's just pay.
Speaker 6 (24:13):
Him like a head coach.
Speaker 9 (24:14):
If it's going to cost us a chance to win
a Super Bowl and make a run, let's just drastically
overpay him so we don't lose him and do what
we got to do to keep him. And unfortunately, he
had Shane Stiking and then he had Killen Moore, and
I honestly don't know the guy's name right now, who's
the coordinator in Philly? And I think that's a big
portion of it. And then the second part and we
(24:34):
saw it on that clip right there, the out route
that got picked is. I still think with Jalen there's
a part of his game that needs to evolved in
the simple, the uncontested throats, the simple movements getting yourself
to the same spot. That's the place where I actually
see accuracy fall off. And those are like unforced airs,
and that's something that can be built over time. All
of his momentum still going left, he never gets into
(24:55):
his front side, that ball goes inside, and that's just
what happens. But this is also a super Bowl and
VP and a winner and a guy with a unique
skill set. But what you got to do when when
you're down, what you got to do when you have
a team like this it's not living up to standard
on offense, is you can't miss those balls down the field,
and particularly when you got guys who are frustrated with
their production.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
One last question, I love Dante more at Oregon. Cleveland's
got two first round picks. Rams have two first round picks,
Giants have their quarterback. There's about four or five teams,
I don't know. I watched them at Penn State game
and I went wow, stoic, calm, accurate better as the
game went. This is what you do for a living.
(25:37):
You told me years before people talked about many quarterbacks
they would work. What do you see with that kid?
Speaker 6 (25:44):
This kid's a star.
Speaker 9 (25:45):
I think the national media is going to start to
I'm here, you are talking about them, right.
Speaker 6 (25:50):
I think you're going to start to learn more about
this guy.
Speaker 9 (25:52):
So I actually want to use this minute to just
help you better understand who he is, and your listeners
understand who is because they're going to watch him play
and come up with their opinions. Honestly, he's set up
for a Heisman National championship type year. But I've known
him since he was in high school, went through Leader
Lemon process and all that, And he was at UCLA
and I was up there throwing with Burrow and a
couple of guys at UCLA when Chip Kelly was there,
(26:15):
and I just got done hanging out with Dante throwing
a little bit, and I was asking Chip about him,
and I said, Hey, how's Dante doing and all that,
and he goes, Dante is one of the most appreciative
football players I've ever coached, And I'm like, what do
you mean?
Speaker 6 (26:30):
Appreciative.
Speaker 9 (26:31):
Well, you grew up in a really tough part of Detroit,
and so his teammates and a lot of guys knew that.
A lot of times at UCLA he would just in
the middle of the night, just walk around campus late
at night because where he grew up, he couldn't do that.
Speaker 6 (26:42):
And he was just he was always talking about how
grateful he is.
Speaker 9 (26:45):
You say, by the way, he's not even playing at
this time, He's just so grateful to be there and
be around this and the environment and what they had,
and that was at UCLA. And so if that's your
foundation of like gratitude and humility, and then we see
what we're and he's I think just warming up, you
have a very sustainable athlete. Because if that's their foundation
(27:08):
and their talented and their clutch, I mean, his face
didn't change once in that game, then you're set up
for success. And we've seen how productive these and efficient
these quarterbacks coming out of Oregon have been, from Dylan
to Bot even before that, and so I actually think
this s guy's the limit. I won't be surprised if
everybody has them number one on their marks coming out
here soon.
Speaker 6 (27:27):
Whether or not he Leaves. I don't know.
Speaker 9 (27:28):
I think he's a big picture guy, but he's definitely
set up for success. I don't see a repeat of
what happened last year where they win the big one
in the season and then they come up short at
the end.
Speaker 6 (27:39):
I think it's going to be Oregon here in the
mix at the end.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
Okay. Jordan founded Thread Performance. I think I talked about
it last time. Go look it up online. Thread Performance
nutrition company helping young players and athletes physical mental potential.
How's it going, by the way, with the company, it's been.
Speaker 6 (27:56):
A rocket ship.
Speaker 9 (27:57):
We just had a year one almost doubled our sales
project since getting amazing emails from moms. There was nothing
on the market for athletes, young athletes that are going
through puberty, that have developing bodies, and we build some
really clean products and we're getting ready to launch our
fourth product, Tidration, here in the next two weeks.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Jordan Palmer one of the smartest people I bring on
the show and thank me, and whenever I'm wrong, He'll
text me and go, you're wrong, coward, You're wrong, and
then I'll stop saying what I was saying. It's great
to seeing you, buddy, all right, you too, thanks man. Yeah,
and his brother, of course, Carson Palmer. Big Game Friday Night,
Big Game, Santa Margarita, j Mac. Do you hear what
(28:36):
he said about Jackson Dart winner. I think he said
that loud and clear. He's a winner, no.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
Doubt about it. Is he a franchise quarterback? That's a
different question.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
My friend J Mark with the news.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Turned on the news. This is the headline news.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
All right, you love a good survey. Well, the annual
NBA GM survey is out calling and Eric Spolster got
fifty two percent of the votes for best head coach. Right. Uh.
Then they had one about the most impactful acquisition, No surprise,
Kevin Durant seventy three percent. Interesting one. If you were
starting a franchise today and could sign.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
Any player in the NBA, Yo, Kitch, who would it be?
Your number?
Speaker 3 (29:16):
One?
Speaker 1 (29:16):
Is Yokich the best player easily in the league? Can
you do you have me to read off the top three?
Speaker 6 (29:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (29:21):
Yeah, yeah, wehm.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
Min Yama eighty three percent. Okay, Sga thirteen percent and
then Jo Kich three percent.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Oh, apparently gms don't watch their own sport.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
Yeah, I mean this this SGA stuff is nonsense, like
you're picking SGA over Yo Kitch over Luka Wemby is
that's insane.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Is not only the best NBA player, there's a gap. Wait, Yokich,
you say this here, Jo Kitch, excuse me. Wemby, by
the way, grew another two inches. He's seven five.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
Now.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
I love Webby, and I know I think. I think
he's an unbelievable defensive player. I do worry about his
body type. Yo Kitch is not going to be hurt.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
You surprised Cooper Flag did not crack the top three.
I would take Cooper Flag over SGA.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
I'm sorry. If I'm starting a franchise, well, I'd like
to see him play a single NBA game. I've seen
enough in college. I I like Cooper Flag alone. I've
seen enoughing season and Cooper Flag end up doing something
that I bet he's the Rookie of the Year choice easy.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
Yeah, he's an overwhelming favorite. Do not bet him because
it's you know.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
How it's amazing people get so caught up in the future. Yeah,
I gotta get those driving cars. How about we just
figure out waimo?
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Okay, before those lies, don't don't you bask Wayman and
Waimo doesn't fly. Can you imagine our mothers in flying cars?
What do you do is it's a Jetson's episode. Come on, yeah, how.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
About we worry about the tires that are actually hitting pavement.
Everybody's about the future, Yo kitchen for the next four years,
will be the best player in the world. You cross
your fingers with Wemby's health. I can't disagree with you there.
That's a stuff egg. That's not a bad take, Colard. Alright,
let's move on to your la Rams.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
Now listen, defensive end Jared Versus guy's been an animal, right,
he is a total beast. He's set to face Lamar
Jackson this week. Oops, Lamar Jackson is still not one
hundred percent and he may not play well. When Verse
was asked about it, here's what he said about not
facing Lamar.
Speaker 6 (31:18):
Curious about it. I want to play Lamar just because, like,
you know.
Speaker 10 (31:22):
He's one of the best quarterbacks you know, like currently,
and then also you know, you put him in that
conversation of not just running quarterbacks for quarterbacks every like
he's up in that conversation Pat Mahomes, Lamar is definitely
on there. I want to get Josh Allen. He owed
me a couple. But uh, I thought Tom Brady was
gonna come back, so I thought I was gonna get
my shot of him. But now there's a couple of
(31:43):
dudes in the league. I definitely got my eye on
that I want to get at least one time.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
I'm not touching this game. I'm not touching it. Ravens
have too much pride. Maybe a few of those guys
are coming back to play. I'm not touching Rams will win,
but I'm not touching with him. A little chicken over there.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
Huh, you're afraid to touch the Rams last night you
were throwing Levice. I was not.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
I did not.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
I warry you about the bill, but I wasn't. Like
that's one of my picks. It definitely would not have
made my picks here headlines. Let me ask you, though,
he said, Lamar Jackson's one of the best quarterbacks ever.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
Us see, he's already like a top ten quarterback all time.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Is that what we're talking ever? Well, in the history
of the league. Yes, how many people have played quarterback?
A thousand, let's say a thousand. If you're top fifteen,
you are absolutely elite. Is Lamar. Now, Lamar might be close.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
Can you be top fifteen without getting to a super Bowl?
Speaker 1 (32:38):
How is that possible? San Marino got to one and
he's top five. He got to a super Bowl period.
I mean, I get it. Lamar's got the MVP. I'm
talking you're talking resume, I'm talking talent.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
Well, talent is extremely subjective. Jared Versus might see talent
here you see and you watch Lamar, do you think
a bunch of people go, you know, he's actually slow?
Not that subjective. Anybody watched Jaws Allan and go kind
of a weak arm. It's not that subjective. It's it's talented.
People saw Cam Newton as talented.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
You know, how did that end up? Well, well again,
he's not Lamar Jackson not consistent. He was super talented.
Speaker 3 (33:16):
Yeah, I like these discussions.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
I know you don't.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Final story, Colin is the Bengals traded for Joe Flacco
and uh he was basically announced as the starter after
walking into the building. Jamar Chase, Jamar, are you ready
for this? Jamar Chase was asked about his new quarterback.
Speaker 1 (33:35):
Here we go.
Speaker 11 (33:37):
Everybody know who he is, you know, one of the
greatest quarterbacks I ever played, but it's good get him
out there, and we had some good reps in the day,
getting a good filler of the offense. He calls, he
plays a little fast, so that was something NW just hearing.
Butter and he's pretty smooth, you know, I mean he
knows the inswered ouse. No, I appreciate organizations trying to
(33:59):
trying to make this work.
Speaker 1 (34:00):
So gotta make it work. No, I'm not a perfect
I like that.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
You like that at the end.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
Appreciate the organization which you bang on more than anybody
trying to make this well.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
I appreciate when an employee is supportive of the guys upstairs.
Bengals drive me nuts, But I like that's a that's
a smart supportive or is this man?
Speaker 2 (34:20):
These guys stink the organization?
Speaker 1 (34:22):
How I feel about the Bengals.
Speaker 3 (34:25):
I want you to pile on more because there's a
certain producer here fifteen feet away from me.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
He complains about the Bengals more than anybody. I'm trying
to fire Zach Taylor for two years, like you and
the Jets. He's not delusion.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
I'm a realistic Jet stink. Jack Taylor should have been
fired two years ago.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Boy, you love to fire people.
Speaker 11 (34:42):
I do.
Speaker 3 (34:43):
Yeah, you're fired. Maybe I'll host a reality show I'll
fire people, and then I'll be the president and like
fifteen years later, I feel sorry for that soccer team
you own.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
You're having a rough season. Well maybe if you were
nicer to your employees should have a better season. Back
with the.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
News, Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by
the herd Line News.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Bring the hook on everybody. Brady Quinn's going to be
joining us. Haven't uh saw Brady at the Illinois USC game? Yeah? Yeah,
USC Illinois game. I'm telling you that USC Michigan game.
That is a program definer. That is a big one
for the Trojans. Michigan can lose that game. They're on
the road, they got a freshman quarterback Michigan. They can
(35:26):
lose that game. That's fine us. He can't lose that game.
Pressure is on the Indiana could go to Oregon and
they can lose that game.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
I called about tickets to this because it's a hot,
hot ticket, and they said, you've got a box there.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
I could probably squeeze in.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
You can go.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
I'm not I have I'm watching the game with Actually
the other.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Side you're hanging out with Michigan people who cowherd. A
lot of you people fly over the Midwest. I committed
to it. Linked Riley is not a happy man hearing that.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
Oh boy, it's the Herd.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
You want to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays

your share of ten thousand dollars. One of the questions
is which quarterback will have the most passing yards this week? Stafford,
Dak Daniel Jones or Sammy Darnold Colin.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
Who you got should be a layup? Well. I think
Stafford against the Ravens is a good spot. I think
Darnold against the Jags will be interesting. Jacksonville has lived
off turnover creation and that will come back down to earth.
I mean, Jacksonville may may have a recovery somewhere. The
(36:51):
so J McK and I have always disagreed on brock Purty.
I think he's fine. I think it's a lot about
Shanahan and the system. He doesn't have winning record, you know,
when he doesn't have Christian McCaffrey and the team is
better offensively today or as good with Mac Jones. Jalen
Hurts similarly. I love Jalen Hurts, but I think his
(37:12):
intangibles are better than his tangibles is forever I've been
hearing about size doesn't matter for quarterbacks. Yet does Russell
Wilson doesn't throw the ball well over the middle of
the field. Either does Tua. Either does Jalen Hurts. Greg
Cosel looks at every snap. Here's what he said about
Jalen Hurts throwing down the middle of the field.
Speaker 12 (37:33):
One thing Jalen Hurts has never done particularly well. He's
not a window throw. He doesn't throw the ball between
the numbers and as I said we were talking earlier,
fifteen to twenty five yards. In fact, he's got the
fewest attempts of any quarterback in the league throwing the
ball between fifteen and twenty five yards between the numbers.
Speaker 6 (37:50):
He doesn't see the game that way.
Speaker 12 (37:52):
They have to be a running football team, and right
now they're not running the ball at all, and the
old line is hurt, it's banged up, and it's not
played anywhere near as well as it has the last
three four years, when it was arguably the best in
the league.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
Russell Wilson, similarly, like Jalen Hurts, had his best years
when he had a dominant run game. So last year
dominant Eagle run game, Jalen Hurts is very good. This
year running game struggling, Jalen Hurt's not as good. It's
the same with Russell Wilson. He's never had a great
run game. Didn't have it in Denver, didn't have it
(38:26):
in Pittsburgh, didn't have it first couple of games without
Skataboo in New York Sctataboo wasn't starting. So it's it's
it's not anti. But when Greg Cosel comes out and
tells you, yeah, he's just not he's he can't see
the field particularly well, Tua has at least been honest
about it. Tua tells you, yeah, there's some throws I
can't see, so they're there. You know, It's like you
can be an action star and not be a big, strong,
(38:50):
physical actor. But it does help, you know, James Bond,
you know it helps you know Schwarzenegger, big strong, physical guy.
Sliced a loan Vin Diesel. It helps. If you're kind
of physically imposing to be an action star, you probably
don't need to be. I mean, Matt Damon isn't. Jason
Bourne was pretty cool, but it can help. And it's
(39:12):
like quarterbacks six to two and a half. An up
kind of helps you can see the field better. So
it's not a knocking anybody. It's just the reality of
what we have. So the games this weekend. The one
game I did not put in the Blazing five that
I will probably regret it is Pittsburgh at home against
Cleveland starting I think Flaco or excuse me today he's
(39:34):
in Cincinnati starting Dylan Gabriel is I may end up
regretting it. But the reason I didn't bet it is
because of last night. Nobody would have guessed the Giant's
house the Eagles. I stay away from a lot of
these divisional games, and I know Pittsburgh should win this game.
But Mike Tomlin's been a great underdog coach, but Mike
(39:57):
Doomlin as a favorite has not been as good. Dylan
Gabriel is the kind of guy that could come out
because if TJ. Watt had a huge year, no he hasn't,
so I look at the Steelers and I'm like, should
the Steelers win? Absolutely? I think the Steelers will win.
But if Dylan Gabriel come out and was kind of
like eighteen to twenty six and it was just you know,
(40:21):
Cleveland's defense is absolutely legit. Go ask the Packers.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
Home road splits are significant. At home, they were great
against the Packers. Then they go to Detroit and it's like, oh,
they can't stop anybody. Big news, Shdor Sanders was just
named the backup quarterback according to seven Kevin Stefanski. So
Dylan Gabriel is a tweaked ankle on the opening drive
away from seeding quarterback to Shador Sanders.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
That game is now must CTV. Well it makes it interesting.
Speaker 3 (40:48):
Yeah, I thought it was gonna be Bailey Zappi. I
still think you had one of the funniest Zappie lines ever.
Remember Yep Zappie when you were doing like the campaign's love. Yeah,
I'll never forget that because it was hilarious.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
Don't be crappier. We'll see Bailey's happy. No. I, But
that that's the game. These Divisional Route two weeks ago
rams are going to crush the Niners. Niners had half
their starters. It was in La last night. Eagles roll.
I'm telling you Cleveland, Cleveland could make this thing ugly.
(41:23):
Dylan Gabriel in Stefanski system could go eighteen to twenty
four and you look up and the Steelers win by
a field goal late. That's why I say these divisional
games are weird.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
That I'll come in shirtless on Monday, because I'll be
without a shirt, I'll have lost it gambling on the
Pittsburgh Steelers.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
Brady Quinn around the corner, the hurd
