You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Here we go. It's our number two. On a Monday
playoffs Baseball playoffs Dodgers tonight, Brewers Mariners take a one
zero lead in Toronto over the Jays. Bits surprising considering
the highly emotional series the Mariners just escaped from wild

(00:49):
weekend to college football is in the end of the
best team in college football. Penn State fires their coach.
J Mackett was a I said in from of a
TV for a lot of the weekend, it is it's
getting to be you know, it's crazy time. It's like,
you get to the point now people are going to
start getting fired with nil and the portal. There's so

(01:10):
much money in college football. It would have been you
would have never considered firing a coach a year after
he won thirteen games because he lost three close games
in a row. But that's the world we live in now.
It's like prage. College football feels more pro than ever.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
And he was in the semi final in overtime against
the Irish.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
By the way, how did you go an.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Hour without mentioning USC's romp over Michigan?

Speaker 1 (01:32):
What happened?

Speaker 4 (01:33):
Lincoln Riley's waiting.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
For the for the props, I will say they pushed
Michigan around. That was that is what you have to
now they have to go on the road. Leached Notre
Dame where they're like an eight point dog and should be.
I don't know if they're built to beat Notre Dame.
Weather's getting a little chili in the Midwest. But they pushed,
they pushed Michigan around. It wasn't that they won, it
was how they won. They won in the trenches with

(01:56):
a third string walk on running back King Miller was unblable.
Here we go, Colin Wright, Colin wrong on a Monday
where Colin was right. Well, when the Eagles started four
and oho, I said they got a coaching issue. You
can't tell me they're beat up and injured. A lot
of teams are beat up and injured. They had a
player's only meeting and aj Brown sort of denied it.

(02:17):
I just I don't I don't buy the Philadelphia Eagles.
They are They're in trouble right now. They're twenty eighth
in yards per rush, twenty fifth in the NFL in
total offense. Even when they were winning, I said, this
isn't going to last. This is the drip, drip drip.
And last week we saw the Fawcet burst where Colin

(02:40):
was wrong firing James Franklin. I don't know. I don't
get it. Apparently insiders at Penn State are saying it
was untenable. But I will tell you he'd won ten
plus games in three straight seasons. Are you telling if
if he beats you cla at the end of the game,

(03:01):
you'd keep him. It feels very reactionary to me. Again,
they're a playaway from beating Notre name last year. What
did they finish fifth in the country. But this is
the world we live in. Get rid of the coach
if there's any questions. And I just don't like the
way it looks I was wrong. I would have never

(03:22):
guessed this.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Where Colin was right.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
To Pittsburgh, Oh, MVP Baker Mayfield. Yeah, a couple of
weeks ago, I said, I think he's MVP. He's never
been this good. And again, players get better, players get worse,
they regress. Look what's happened to Justin Field. Baker is
better now. He was good early. He didn't play with
his confidence. He's got nothing to work with. Bucky Irby,

(03:48):
Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, Abuca got hurt. I said, two
or three weeks ago, let's not get ourselves here. This
is what an MVP looks like. And I said, Cleveland,
it was a poor fit. It's a bitter fan base
and an angry media poking them in the rips. Tampa's chill,
Todd Bowles high IQ high EQ opening all the doors

(04:09):
for him every weekend. More and more. Baker's the MVP
of this league.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Where Colin was wrong?

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers four and one? Are they
going to wrap this division up in four to five weeks?
Aaron right now, smartly is getting rid of the ball
from snap to getting rid of the ball faster than
he has in his entire career. And I got to
tell you, with the size of his targets in Pittsburgh,
I think it's smart. There's there's no wow plays. He's

(04:40):
not doing that. He's doing the back shoulder. He's accurate.
He's completing seventy three percent. This is an offense for
the last seven years, and this is not the best Aaron.
This is old Aaron. This is an offense in the
last three weeks. He's got a one to twelve passer rating.
Now I know he's he's got an advantage. That D
fence is gobbling up backup quarterbacks. But it looks good

(05:02):
to me. Where Colin was right, I said, New England,
watch out. They're gonna be the double the win total
team in the NFL. This will be my fourth year
in a row. If I hit this after the Raiders loss,
I said, slow down between free agents and draft picks.
They're they're starting like a dozen new guys. Don't freak out.

(05:24):
When they lost to Pittsburgh. Guy said, let it play out.
No team is starting more new bodies. Vrabel's brilliant. Guy,
Drake May's really good. And this is one of those
things where not all opening losses are the same. Detroit's
obviously a good team. They got housed in the first game.
New England lost to the Raiders. I kept saying don't worry.

(05:46):
They'll figure away. They're building a culture. And we were
right where Colin was wrong. I had Dante More as
the number one pick last week. He got out played
by Fernando Mendoza and it wasn't particularly close. Couple of
picks minus twenty seven yards rushing, didn't see the field
particularly well, sacked six times. Listen, Indiana's really good. Indiana's

(06:09):
a really good football team and really well coached. But
Dante More it did not look great. Let's just be
honest about this. It was a really, really bad game.
Considering the quality of the staff and the quality of
Oregon talent, this was a stinker.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Where Colin was right.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Well, I said the Dolphins, I don't trust the culture
and the head coach. Here was Tua after losing to
the LA Chargers. Listen to this.

Speaker 5 (06:39):
I think it.

Speaker 6 (06:40):
Starts with the leadership in helping articulate that for the guys,
and then what we're expecting out of the guys. Right,
we're expecting this? Are we getting that? Are we not
getting that? We have guys showing up to only player
only meetings late, guys not showing up to player only
meeting Like there's a lot that goes into that.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
It's a lot of it's a lot of things.

Speaker 6 (07:01):
Of that nature that we got to get cleaned up.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Yeah, till little late three picks had the game one
toa basically saying is yeah, we don't have a culture
here of accountability. Not good.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Where Colin was right.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Let's wrap it up with this. The Mariners to go
one on lead in the American League Championship Series. I
said two weeks ago. Despite having the number fifteen payroll,
they are a more balanced even team than the Yankees.
They can defend, they have good starting pitching. Right now,
opposing hitters in the playoffs are hitting a buck eighty
three on Mariners pitching. Mendoza is a great closer. They

(07:40):
can hit for power station to station baseball. They can
do whatever you want. It's a very complete team. You know,
cal Rawley's their star. There's no question they're not as
star studded as a team like the Yankees, but the
Yankees don't do a lot well outside of hit home runs. Mariners,
I believe will make the World Series and they'll face
the Brewers when they get there. Colin Wright Colin wrong

(08:03):
on a Monday, and let's go to Matt Hasselbeck, three
Pro Bowls, eighteen years in the NFL. Love him on
a Monday. I want to start with the Dolphins, which
is not the sexiest team, But when Tua calls out
as coach, it's like, Okay, what are we doing here?
Like this thing has gone sideways? What do you make
I mean, it's obviously they're gonna make big changes. They
could change the GM the coach just let's just wrap

(08:24):
a bow on what is wrong with Miami?

Speaker 7 (08:28):
Well, I thought he called out himself.

Speaker 8 (08:29):
Really, I mean, you're the franchise quarterback and you're saying
that players don't come to players only meetings, Like that's
an indictment on you, Like no offense. Sometimes when you're
not like an alpha personality as a quarterback, you kind
of need an alpha head coach. But if you're kind
of like a soft spoken, Hey, I'm not really that guy,
then I don't know if you can have a head

(08:49):
coach that really isn't that guy either. I'm just thinking
about it like that, That to me was as bad
as it gets at the podium. That's not the time.
It's not the place. Listen, no one likes the players
only meeting, but sometimes they need to happen, and it's
kind of a tell the truth Monday situation usually and
you air it all out and it's uncomfortable. But uh,

(09:10):
but that that was just a bad look all the
way around. I'm embarrassed for him. I'm sure he regrets it.
And uh, you know, that's a team that needs some
leadership to step up. And it doesn't have to be
the guy that gets to call the plays in the huddle.
If it's got to be somebody else, then it's got
to be somebody else. But that was that was a
bad look.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Yeah. So you know, I said them in the Kansas
City Chiefs or you know, a couple of weeks ago,
we looked at him and we said, you know, folks,
I don't want to hear about the Ravens injuries. It
looks different. Turn the sound on your TV. Down watch
the speed. They they're not letting people over the top.
And I watched last night and they no penalties, no
turnovers in one punt, like you know what it felt like. Man,

(09:51):
You probably played on a veteran team at one point.
That was one of those where the veterans are like, guys,
we have to play our cleanest game of the season.
I don't know. I mean, do you see and they
look different than four weeks ago? But I didn't play
in the sport. What do you see? Well?

Speaker 8 (10:06):
I think there's a confidence that comes with having a
good offensive line.

Speaker 7 (10:09):
I think they feel really great about this offensive line.

Speaker 8 (10:11):
There's also a confidence with the teams that are still
playing with their starting quarterback. And then if you're starting quarterbacks,
one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game ever,
and then you've got the best offensive play caller designer
in our era and Andy Reid like literally, how are
you gonna like? That gives me confidence as a player.
That gives me confidence as a locker room and as
a defense like you got Mahomes over here running like

(10:33):
speed option like.

Speaker 7 (10:34):
Like sixx young or something like, you got to defend
it all.

Speaker 8 (10:37):
And so listen, as they're getting healthy, they get worthy back,
they're getting rice back. You can tell that this is
a team. There's no panic, there's no players only meetings there.
You know, they're they're three and three. The sky's not falling.
You know, they're like, hey, we're going to we're gonna
go want to know this week? You know, we're probably
like a game out, we're good, Like we're absolutely good.
And I could promise you there last week was tough.

(10:58):
They might maybe they did have to have players speak up,
but I don't think this is the kind of team
that needs coaches to leave the room when players want
to air out some stuff that they got to say.
And so, like, I just think the culture is there,
the continuity's been there, and you have you have alpha's
at the head coach, at the quarterback, at the tight end,
at d line, all over, good team, good franchise, top

(11:18):
to bottom.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Yeah, so you know, it'd be one thing if Baker
Mayfield's reboot in his career was based on like one
coach or one coordinator. The fact is the last two
coordinators under him left to get head coaching jobs. Some
quarterbacks get coordinators fired. He's getting them hired, and so
I would like to give other people credit, but a

(11:41):
lot of this is just Baker's will. Did you ever
think Baker Mayfield would be this good in the NFL?

Speaker 8 (11:49):
I thought he was a risky first overall pick, but no,
he hasn't it factor. And everyone said that from the
get go. You know, they were a little concerned it
was too brash, too Brett Favre. But no, he has
exceeded I think everybody's expectations this. I mean, his response
to the MVP thing was great. We don't need to
crown an MVP after week six. But listen, he'd be

(12:10):
the guy. Like, he'd absolutely be the guy. The best
thing you can say about a quarterback is he makes
the guys around him better. He's got you know, all
his you know, exciting weapons are out, he's throwing. He
threw two touchdowns yesterday to guys that it was their
first touchdown ever. Like he has put literally put this
team on his back. The personality that he has is
shown up on his team, and I believe that's contagious.

(12:31):
I really think it's contagious. And this is a team
that you don't want to face. Tampa is the is
the real deal, and it's because of Baker.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Yeah, And there is value in winning these close games
time and time again. There, you can't tell me there's not.
Some It's like a baseball team that keeps coming back
and winning. I think that stuff always has a redeemable quality.

Speaker 8 (12:49):
Yeah, And if I could just add one other thing
he is, he has become such a great deep ball thrower.
You know a lot of times quarterbacks that he's kind
of played safe. His eyes are way down field, the
third level of the defense, and he's like, you know what,
I don't care if it's a little bit late. I'm
throwing it deep down in the middle of my guys.

Speaker 7 (13:06):
I'm giving you a chance.

Speaker 8 (13:08):
And I think that's been one of the most dangerous
parts about his game.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
So let's talk about his draft class in Sam Donald. So,
I think what's impressive about Sam Donald. The Minnesota team
he was on had a veteran left tackle and a
veteran running back and a veteran wide receiver, and Justin Jefferson.
He goes to Seattle and its kids. It's the second
youngest offense, and we were all like, boy, JSN, is
that a Number one guy? Explain to me, now, maybe

(13:34):
JSN super mature. Explain to me how JSN and Donald
are this good together this quickly? You only have so
much practice time. How does it look like they've been
together for eight years?

Speaker 7 (13:46):
Well, I think they're bought into the system.

Speaker 8 (13:48):
I mean, this is the same system that he threw
thirty five touchdowns in last year. And I think there's
like with the experience, now there's a lot of wisdom.

Speaker 7 (13:55):
He says.

Speaker 8 (13:56):
You know, he can come into JSN and be like, hey, listen,
this is how you know.

Speaker 7 (13:59):
Justin Jefferson did it? You know what do you think?

Speaker 8 (14:01):
And Klint Kubiak is you know, really coming from that
same Kyle Shanahan tree. But I think you also empower
a guy when you give him the contract that they
gave Sam Donald and you say, hey, you're the guy.
And I think he's taken ownership of that. He's playing
great football. I think on both sides of the ball.
Listen Seattle's defense, this is a team that they've got length,
they've got speed, they're.

Speaker 7 (14:21):
Very young, they've got a young head coach.

Speaker 8 (14:23):
You know, when you're given when your defense is creating
seven sacks, that's going to help your offense as well.
So I don't think this is a finished product team.
I mean there's there's actually areas where this offense can
really improve. Third down would be a great example they
got to improve. But I think what Donald has done
such an amazing job of is under center play action,
turn your back to the defense, which marries up with

(14:45):
the run game that they're trying to establish and JSN. Literally,
I think I've been saying this for a long time.
I think he's the most underrated wide receiver in the
entire NFL.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
So a lot of people didn't watch the Saints or pageots,
but I remember during camp Mike Rabel coming out and
it was one of those quotes that's kind of memorable.
He's like, you know, Drake's got to understand leadership is
seven days a week. It's not a great practice. You
got to be a leader seven days a week. And
it was kind of like, I really like this kid,

(15:17):
but he's he's young, and I always said, I think
it's so weird. You're twenty four years old. You walk
into a locker room with rich dudes that are thirty one,
and it's like, all right, you're the parent. It's like
that is hard. But the last three or four weeks,
you tell me, it looks like Drake May is as
good as any quarterback in his class. He's not Jaden

(15:37):
Daniels yet, but I don't know it feels special to me.

Speaker 8 (15:42):
No, he's not Jaden Daniels, but he outplayed Jaden Daniels
in those joint practices. When Frabel said that, and everyone
was trying to crown him as better than Jaden Daniels,
and Frabel was like, hey, in a Bill Parcell's kind
of way was like, hey, pump the brakes, but no,
Drake May has everyone in New England excited, mostly because
of the huge win at Buffalo against Josh Allen. But
what I love what he's doing and what Josh McDaniels

(16:04):
is doing, is they run so many different option routes.
You know, think about Josh Daniels and all the different
guys that ran option routes through you know when he
was successful. Drake has has an experience doing that at UNC.
He's got a great feel for Diggs and Pop Douglas
and all the different guys. So I believe that's one
of the harder things for quarterbacks is to really get
on the same page quick with the guys on option routes.

Speaker 7 (16:25):
The other thing that Drake has done.

Speaker 8 (16:27):
A great job is before he uses his legs to scramble,
he's using the running back checkdown game again, a Josh
McDaniels staple. So you know, is he ready to be
crowned like, you know the best quarterback in the AFC East,
or is the next Tom Brady, like no, but the
excitement is super real. And I think Rabel understands, having
been teammates with Tom Brady, having been around great quarterbacks.

(16:48):
I think Vrabels in Josh McDaniels, it's like a nice
little tag team for this quarterback. And don't be surprised, literally,
do not be surprised if the Patriots are a playoff
team this year.

Speaker 7 (16:59):
Great call by you, Colin was right.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
Well, you know, get a couple of them. And by
the way, I remind everybody when I hit two times
a year on being right, I make sure.

Speaker 7 (17:09):
You're like a broken clock. You're like a broken clock,
you're right twice a day.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
Garrett Dait Absolutely. So there are some guys and I'm
always kind of amazed by this quality there are. And
I saw it last year with Jayden Daniels. Some guys
just see the field and some quarterbacks don't. And Herbert
Yesterday is under duress and he's running around, he's switching
hands with the ball, he throws it out to maconk

(17:32):
and I'm like, some of this is innate. I don't
think you can coach some of this quarterback stuff. Herbert
Yesterday three backup, all linemen, no number one receiver, number
three running back. How do you view I mean, he's
obviously physically impressive, but I just sometimes he makes throws
and I it's just I don't know. Is it coaching,
is it scheme? What do you make of Herbert?

Speaker 7 (17:55):
Well, yeah, you can't coach that stuff.

Speaker 8 (17:57):
I mean, you know, literally those are ball control, ball
in the pocket.

Speaker 7 (18:01):
Drills, escapability drills. But you need the tangibles. Listen.

Speaker 8 (18:04):
I feel like I talk about intangibles a lot with
the quarterback, but you also need the tangibles you get
around justin Herbert. He's every bit a franchise quarterback. I
mean he looks like Drew Drew Bledsoe. He moves like
Brett Farv like he's really incredible, and he does it
at the moment, at the clutch moments. Now here's another
guy you mentioned. He's on his third string left tackle.

(18:25):
H Will they make a trade? Until they make a trade,
he's gonna have to throw with great anticipation, anticipitation or
he's going to have to really be superman like you
saw in this game. Put the team on his back.
But you're not gonna be playing the Miami Dolphins every week,
and so this is a this is a situation where
I think he's gonna need a little bit of help.
I mean, you look at Lamar Jackson, he needed help.

(18:47):
He's one of the game's great quarterbacks. Justin Herbert's gonna
need help as well.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
Finally, Aaron Rodgers and his whole career has never let
go of the ball this quickly. And I'd make the
argument Pittsford strange. They have three tight ends that are giants.
One of them is the biggest tight end of the league,
was Gon left tackle. Then they have DK Metcalf And
this is not necessarily a throw the ball over the
top team. It is a We've got really large, six

(19:14):
foot six men who are strong, get the ball to
women matchups, let them break some tackles. And he's getting
crushed in all these analytic grading systems that he's having
a bad year. And I'm like, no, I kind of
get it. They don't have a Xavier Worthy. That's not
that they don't have these lad mcconkeys. They have six
seven receivers and tight ends. What do you make of

(19:34):
Aaron just get spitting that thing out? Is he worried
about getting sacked. Is it just eat that simple?

Speaker 7 (19:40):
He's smart.

Speaker 8 (19:41):
Listen when I was starting, I think I started eighty.

Speaker 7 (19:43):
Or nine games in my forties.

Speaker 8 (19:46):
I got the ball out quick too. I wasn't like
consciously trying to do it. But I think maybe there
is something to like, Man, I'm good.

Speaker 7 (19:51):
I don't need to be.

Speaker 8 (19:52):
I don't need to show I'm John Wayne. I don't
need to take these hits. No, here's what they're doing.
He's getting the ball out really quick. But Arthur Smith,
then Aaron. They're moving the launch point. So the quarterback
is almost always like seven and a half or nine
and a half yards right behind the center, but not
Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 7 (20:09):
Not this year.

Speaker 8 (20:09):
A lot of their big plays are coming where the
launch point is moving, doesn't have to move too far.

Speaker 7 (20:14):
Could be in the B gap, it could be in
the sea gap.

Speaker 8 (20:16):
Maybe it's all the way outside the hash but that's
buying time within the design of the play, and even
if the defense covers it. That's where Aaron Rodgers has
his back shoulder throws, double moves, all the different stuff.

Speaker 7 (20:28):
So I think this is.

Speaker 8 (20:29):
A really really intentional game plan by Arthur Smith, and
it might be an unintentional thing with Aaron Rodgers, like,
it's all good, man, I can play point guard.

Speaker 7 (20:39):
I don't need to be the shooting forward. And that's great.
That's what he really probably should have been doing with
the Jets. He's doing it great. This is a nice fit.
I think everyone was wondering how the fit would be.

Speaker 8 (20:50):
But just notice the next time you watch the Steelers
where that launch point is, where he's letting the ball
go from. It makes it difficult on the defense and
it protects a guy in his forties.

Speaker 7 (21:01):
I'm a fan. I think they're doing great.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
Yeah, it's more Chris Paul than Steph Curry. I can
hit the jumper, but I'm gonna get this ball out
because they have some unique body types. I mean, Washington
is he's six seven and a half. I mean, they've
got massive By the way, you were staff just said this,
you were five and three as a starter in your forties.

Speaker 7 (21:24):
That's probably like banged out all two and banged up.

Speaker 8 (21:27):
You know, that was a you know, I do think
like as a quarterback sometimes you know, sometimes when you're younger,
you don't know enough.

Speaker 7 (21:35):
But I'm sure Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 8 (21:36):
He knows it all and he's like, man, I don't
trust this situation. You know, we got a tight end
blocking backside on a defensive end like this, ball's coming
out quick like he's been through the fire, He's learned
the mistakes.

Speaker 7 (21:47):
I know that was true for me.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
Great Sanior, Matt as always, Thanks Sikon all right, I
love that twenty minutes with Matt Hasselbeck and right and
Wrong one of my favorite twenty minutes of the week.
Bruce s Feldman's going to join us next hour, Albert Rereer.
The trade deadline is creeping up. The Rams could use
a corner. The Chargers could use another tackle, swing guy

(22:10):
that can play either way. Joe alt It will come back.
Philadelphia may need a new offensive coordinator. I'm not sure
the trade deadline helps for that. And Kansas City doesn't
need anything but Rashi Rice. Sorry. J mckinne's right around
the corner. Hey, just kind of call it as I
see it last night. That looks like a good football team.

Speaker 4 (22:31):
Just stop it. What about the Niners?

Speaker 1 (22:32):
Now?

Speaker 3 (22:32):
The Niners are interesting? Right, Bosa out, Warner out. Do
you make a play to add a linebacker? Do you
make a play to add a Quinn Williams from the
Jets who Sala knows, well, do you do something?

Speaker 4 (22:44):
Because the Niner schedule.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
Still leaves the door open for them to make a
deep playoff runner. Remember the offense, we'll have Ayuk, presumably Jennings,
Piersoll Rock party like they're gonna have pieces.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
I think the Niners are a week to week team.
If two of their receivers came back next week, I'd
say no. I mean with the Niners, we just watched
their practice reports every week. I mean, so I think.
I mean, they do have some offensive firepower coming back,
but I mean listens, and they had moments in that game.
That loss was not on mac Jones. I mean, they
had their moments. But Tampa's really good right now, and

(23:18):
they're there punishing you over the top if you have
if you try to you bring too much heat on Baker,
he'll burn you. They'll go right at you over the top.
And as Matt said, Baker's throwing the best feet ball
of his life.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
He has eight touchdown passes of twenty or more are yard.
That's double the second most quarterback in the league.

Speaker 4 (23:36):
Who's your guy? Bo Nicks?

Speaker 2 (23:38):

Speaker 2 (24:14):
He's still moving.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
There is so much going on. Let's not waste any time.
It's j Mac with the news. Turn on the news.

Speaker 2 (24:27):
This is the Herd Line news.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
All right, Colin, Let's start with college football. Indiana taking
down Oregon was a major upset. Your boy Dante Moore.
He just his offensive line let him down. I think
that was the big story. I didn't think he was terrible.
I thought the offensive line was total trash. But the
real story here is Kurt Signetti. This guy has hit
the big ted like a comet, and he talked about

(24:51):
the difference between last year's Hoosiers and this year's Hoosiers
after the big win.

Speaker 10 (24:57):
Last year, I was the way I was because I
thought I needed to be taken over this program, kind
of lead the charge the way I was out there
a little bit. I knew that early on in December. Okay,
I thought we established credibility last season. Our team was
in a good place. The most important thing to me
was our mindset going into this game that we believed, expected,

(25:19):
prepared to make it happen, and could handle the ups
and downs of the game without flinching, showing frustration and anxiety.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
Yeah. I mean, there's an argument Ohio State's the best
team in the country in Indiana's second Texas A and
M's pretty good, but I don't know that that's I mean,
last year Ohio State won the Natty. They went to
Oregon and they couldn't pull this off. Dante War was
on fire. They I mean, they got after Dante More
got sacked six times. And I don't think you'll leave

(25:52):
this job to go to Penn State. Penn State right
now is a bit of a hot mess. Bloomington's a
great place to live. It's one of the best college towns.

Speaker 4 (26:00):
Bloomington. Have you been. I've never been there.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
Oh yeah, great top ten college town. It's a great
place middle of the country. You know, whether it's not ideal,
it's not ideal in Penn State. Serve if you've got
the nil money. His staff is being well compensated. And
by the way, Indiana again, now that they're winning, well,
watch what this Oregon win does for recruiting. Watch what
it does. You may find another couple million bucks in

(26:24):
the nil off a win like this.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
Well, first of all, sorry to back up a little.
Miami Hurricanes, you forgot about that. They're certainly one.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
Of the time.

Speaker 1 (26:31):
They're very good.

Speaker 4 (26:32):
But Indiana is right there. Knock it on the door.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
I do need to ask you if you're the Hoosiers
and you see all these coaches getting run around the country,
the Oregon State fired their coach. I mean we're in
early October coming. I wonder do you go to Signetti
and say, hey, bro, we know the big boys are.

Speaker 4 (26:48):
Coming after you.

Speaker 3 (26:48):
We want to lock you up. We want to go
from eight million a year to I don't what did
they boost him to twelve. I mean Colin in two years,
he's made Indiana football relevant. I couldn't tell you one
Indiana player you know, five ten years ago, could you.
I mean, I don't remember when they were good at.

Speaker 1 (27:04):
I you know. I again, Indiana's in the big ten.
Penn State's in the big ten. Penn State has more history,
probably has a little bit more money. They got a
huge Adidas deal. Yeah, but I I don't know. I think.
I mean, he's in his fifties. He may not want
to bounce around anymore.

Speaker 4 (27:21):
You know, he's sixty four. He's getting up.

Speaker 1 (27:24):
There in an he's sixty four years old.

Speaker 4 (27:26):
He was you know, I graduated from JMU.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
He was at JMU and then left for Indiana and
brought a ton of his players. So it's like Belichick's
just grabbing guys in the portal. Signetti got specific guys
his own that fit his system, so it was a
seamless transition. I think he's gonna listen, we got a
Michigan guy on staff who's like, listen, I would take
him in a heartbeat over Sharon Moore, who is he

(27:51):
was the interim guy. Remember you with your whole interim thing.
You know, Hardball kind of hand picked him.

Speaker 4 (27:56):
I don't know if.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
Sharon Moore is long from Michigan. Does Signetti get a
bite from the Vereens? The dude is killing it right now.
We'd agree on that, right.

Speaker 1 (28:04):
Oh yeah, I mean you're winning at Austin just doesn't happen.
People don't go there and win. Ohio State couldn't go
there and win it. It's one of the loudest places.
I don't know. I don't know if I would. I
don't think i'd move. I don't want to go into
that Penn State mess.

Speaker 4 (28:21):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
By the way, you remember last week I told you
the biggest college football better I know was on Indiana
plus seven, and I was reluctant.

Speaker 4 (28:28):
I did pull the trigger, but some.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
People out there I did not think that game was
going to be close. Colling, that was one of the
biggest surprises of the season, because you know Oregon's good.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
Well, because USC throttling Michigan was not a surprise. It
should be known.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
All right, let's move on Colin to your boy Baker
mayfield Man Tampa Bay. I even won looking like a
legit contender.

Speaker 4 (28:50):
In the NFC.

Speaker 3 (28:50):
One of my favorite plays was after this Baker scramble,
just elusive stuff, almost like that page out of Justin
Herbert's book. He throws a bomb touchdown to Tes Johnson,
young fella who catches it like a fingertip touchdown catch.

Speaker 4 (29:03):
It's just spectacular.

Speaker 1 (29:04):
He was an Oregon kid.

Speaker 4 (29:05):
Yeah, then it has flipped.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
And after the game he was like, I heard m
VP chance And then a teammate woke him up and
was like, bro, it's not about.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
You, Baker.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
This the city has rallied around you. His fan base
loves you when you had to have a run and
the chance MVP to start reading and make you feel.

Speaker 6 (29:26):
It's week six, so got a big one next week,
so it's it's awesome to have the support.

Speaker 7 (29:31):
Don't get me wrong, but we're we're just getting started.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
I'm mature. Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 4 (29:38):
He's a different dude. Now, remember what he.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
Needs to do Like that. He doesn't like when you
say that.

Speaker 4 (29:43):
No, No, he's different, you Colin.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
He used to favorite my tweets when he was coming
out of Oklahoma, where I was like, I don't know
if this guy's going to make it as a pro.

Speaker 4 (29:50):
He would.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
It wasn't like his team either that was him, he
would he would look on social media and exact revenge
on those people. He's grown up a lot now. I
will just point out, you know, when you I have
a good weekend, you start looking at the card Buck
set Lions.

Speaker 4 (30:03):
This week Tampa Bay Ride and high. They might be
number one in the herd hierarchy. Detroit. You filling the lion.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
Troit's not going to have their safety branch. And Baker
lives on the deep ball.

Speaker 4 (30:16):
Yes, you taking Tampa.

Speaker 5 (30:18):
Huh?

Speaker 4 (30:19):
Just a heads up.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
I'm not betting against Baker right now. He is on
a col Rawley streak. I'm not betting against him.

Speaker 4 (30:26):
Smart.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
I've lost some money betting against Baker this season.

Speaker 4 (30:28):
Final story, Colin, Let's.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
Move to your other favorite quarterbacks. Sammy d will slinging
Sammy Darnald, I think I texted you yesterday on the
JSN touchdown. I mean, look at this strike in stride.
I mean, Donald is clicking on all cylinders. Here's Sam
Darnald after dispatching the Jags twenty to twelve.

Speaker 11 (30:49):
Last year. They never played us in single high safety,
which I'm not sure I've ever seen in the game before.
And you know, they kind of took advantage of me
being a little greedy out there, and I told myself,
I was gonna, you know, take what they give me,
and if they give me a check down, I'm going
to take it. Today a great team and you know,
we're really excited about, you know, kind of where we're

(31:10):
at as a team. And you know the result of this.

Speaker 1 (31:14):
One, Yeah, Seattle is they got some dudes, and they're
they're a young team, green Bay kind of young team
sometimes or no, I mean they should have they should
have closed this game down about an hour before they did, right,
But it was my second favorite bet of the week.
My first is tonight Washington. But I see Jacksonville ten penalties, turnovers.

(31:34):
I mean, Jacksonville coming off that Kansas City win, you
knew they were going to step back. You knew they
wouldn't be able to handle sick. It's not about how
do you handle losing it? How do you handle success?
And Jacksonville did not play particularly well well.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
So you love Seattle.

Speaker 3 (31:48):
You tried to talk me into it, and I said,
three guys in the secondary are down.

Speaker 4 (31:52):
I can't do it. I'm an idiot for that.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
Let me just point out one of the craziest stats
I saw from Sunday.

Speaker 5 (31:57):
The Seattle Seahawks had seventeen quarterback hits seventeen Colin that's
more than Justin Fields got hit and he was sack
nine times. So I don't know what happened with the
Jags offensive line, but if Seattle's d line plays like
that and they get their guys in the secondary back,
you know we got three.

Speaker 4 (32:13):
Teams that are four and two in the NFC West.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
I mean, we would agree San fran is a little
behind due to the injuries.

Speaker 4 (32:20):
Yes, we think the Rams now Puka.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
It sounds like he's gonna miss this week in London,
so I think the Rams take maybe a step. Is
Seattle gonna win the division and Coward's gonna have.

Speaker 4 (32:31):
Called another one in the offseason?

Speaker 1 (32:33):
Rights, it's Seattle is young, and the good news about
being young is when you get banged up, players get
healthy faster. So it's all I know. I always use
to turn the audio down when you watch a game.
Kansas City looks fast. Kansas City just looks and Seattle
looks too good not to be a playoff team. They

(32:55):
look fast, they get after it, like him jmck of
the News, Well, that's.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
The news, and thanks for stopping by The Herdline news.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
Well, it's official. We have a worst coach team in
the league. There is nothing nothing the Jets do well,
and we'll talk about that. The Herd live in Chicago.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
Sunday, a Fox NFL doubleheaders starts with Saint Quon and
the Eagles taking on the Vikings or other regional action.

Speaker 4 (33:39):
Then in America's Game of the Week, Jaden.

Speaker 3 (33:41):
Danuels and the Commanders battle Dak and the Cowboys for
Packers Cardinals. Check local listings for the games in your area.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
Mentally on Fox mend there's some interesting ones. Let me
tell you Eagles, Vikings. Keep your eye on there's a
couple interesting lines this weekend.

Speaker 3 (34:00):
And if there's Jets, does that get you excited yet?

Speaker 1 (34:02):
But keep your eye on the Colts and the Chargers. Yes,
I'm not even gonna giveaway. I mean what it was
I this week I forgot four to zho. Keep your
eye on that Colts line. Very interesting. So a couple
of years ago, I said this. NBA players, especially stars,
have often spoken out against their coaches, like you don't

(34:23):
do that in the NFL. But I got two, two
or three times kind of calling out Mike McDaniel and
I'll get to it in a second. But a member
of the Jets called out Aaron Blenn, the coach. So
what I saw yesterday was bewildering how bad it was
before half the Jets tried a fake punt risky given

(34:44):
the situation. They converted, and the next play they run like,
what are you doing? If you're going to risk that,
then go into the two minute offense? What are you doing?
And then you know, justin fields. I just doesn't make
any sense. They have him justin fields. In the second half,

(35:05):
something happened. He would not let go of the ball,
and there were times he had there were times he
had ample time to throw. So Garrett Wilson confronts the
coach on the sideline on going for it on the
fake punt, and then the first play is a running
play like, dude, two minute offense, let's go. Kurt Warner
couldn't figure it out. You know, the announcers are bewildered,

(35:29):
and Garrett Wilson after the game, was upfront about it.

Speaker 12 (35:33):
I just didn't know exactly what the plan was, and
once I figured it out, you know, I was disappointed.
I'll just say that once we, you know, converted the
fourth down, I just thought we were going for the
you know, trying to make the play, and then obviously
we get to another fourth down and it's a tough
spot to be in. So, you know, in High said,
I get why they did that, but in a moment,
I was just like, man, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (35:56):
Yeah, no, it's so organationally think about this. So you
pay forty million dollars thirty million guaranteed to Justin Fields,
who's athletic, but he's regressed badly. That's on the Jets.
I mean, Aaron Rodgers leaves the Jets, look of the
year he's having. Justin Field's had a pretty good six
game stretch, goes to the Jets. Look what's happened to him?

(36:17):
This is the Sam Donald thing. We can keep blaming
the players, but Sam Darnold is a top ten quarterback
in the league. Now. He looked like he was a
bust in New York. Aaron Rodgers looked old in New York.
He actually looks good. Justin Fields, I said four and
two in Pittsburgh, he looked pretty good. They moved into
the bench. Jets were like, okay, we'll pay for it.

(36:39):
Everybody stinks in New York. They can't get they can't
get the GM right, they can't get the trades right,
they can't get the players right. So I can keep
blaming the quarterback. But I mean I would have gone
to Tyrod Taylor in the second half. I would have
kicked a field goal to win it. But Justin Fields
last year did not look like that. Sam Ernold watch

(37:00):
him now, it didn't look like that. This is an
organizational has Matt spill This is the worst team Tennessee.
I think has a worst roster. The Jets are the
worst team, And so what do you do? Do you
fire the coach? Well, it's got a very Freddie Kitchens
feel to it, where it just doesn't feel like some
guys are great position coaches. Some guys are great coordinators.

(37:23):
Not all vice presidents can run the country. A lot
of people are vps. Not all vps can run the company.
That's okay, VP is a great gig, But nothing works
for me. The explanations don't work Garrett Wilson calling him out.
The good news is there's a couple interesting quarterbacks we're
going to be available. Dante Moore had a bad weekend.

(37:47):
I still think he's really special, but you know it's funny.
Bruce Feldman is going to stop by next hour, and
Albert Breer the trading deadline is coming up. If I'm
the Jet, the Jets need a quarterback. But my question is,
after watching Justin Fields, what if they get one with
this staff, with this organization, will it matter. I mean, honestly,

(38:09):
you're watching Donald, I'm watching him. Look what Carolina did
the Baker Mayfield and Donald, so some of these organizations
in this sport, they're just not equipped to handle a quarterback.
They don't know what they're doing. I mean, it's funny.
Baker Mayfield can go to the Rams and Sean mcvahon
have one practice and then engineer a game winning drive.

(38:30):
Josh Dobbs goes I think from Arizona to the Vikings
and Kevin O'Connell no practices throws for three hundred yards.
I mean, the Jets are just not equipped. Regardless of
who the coach is, could be Adam gaseitz Aaron let
They are not equipped to bring along a young quarterback
that needs somebody to put their arms around him. They

(38:51):
can't do it. The organization's not equipped to do it.
So here's the NFL schedule coming up this weekend. Tonight,
I'm gonna take walks Washington over Chicago. I'll take Buffalo
off of lost to New England over Atlanta. That's an
easy one. I would say this when you look at
this schedule yesterday, everybody thought Denver was going to blow

(39:13):
out the Jets. Be very wary of the games that
looked like blowouts. We all thought Harball was going to
flex against Miami. He was furious. This is the time
of the year when teams start getting banged up. The
weather's going to cool down, quarterback play is going to
be different. I live in a part of the country
now it's getting cold and the Jackets are out. So

(39:34):
all this seven on seven summer football is over. Can
I spend a second on the Bears tonight? J Mack?
Because I think that's a fascinating game. Sure, Bears Washington tonight.
So I like Washington for two reasons. Number One, the
Bears have not shown an ability to win on the road.
Over the last several years. Here's the second thing to

(39:54):
win on the road. One of the things that's essential
in winning on the road is what the sh your defense? Dude,
as they say, defense travels. Well, the Bears give up
the most yards per play in the NFL. Now think
about that. So if you if you give up the
most yards per play, what happens? Caleb Williams on the

(40:17):
bench watching getting out of rhythm? What have the Bears
struggled with getting rhythm offensively? It's why? Like Washington, Well, okay,
breaking news. The Titans just announced that Brian Callahan has
been fired.

Speaker 3 (40:29):
Wow, oh my go ahead of the Verbel revenge game
this week Patriots at Titans Verbel.

Speaker 4 (40:36):
Revenge spot that lines up to seven.

Speaker 3 (40:39):
Wow, Callahan toast, So you gotta find somebody to thick
cam Ward strength.

Speaker 7 (40:43):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (40:45):
Well, the game yesterday, we know the Raiders aren't great,
was not competitive, so obviously the players. So James Franklin
fired yesterday. Yeah, Brian Callahan, He's.

Speaker 3 (40:57):
Well, if you're the Titans, Colin, you're getting ahead of
the Jets and whoever else may fire the coach, you
can hit the ground running with who you want.

Speaker 4 (41:04):
To go after I'll just say this.

Speaker 3 (41:06):
You're gonna want an offensive coach, obviously, now Callahan was,
but you've got a young quarterback. You don't want to
go hire a defensive guy, do you. I can't imagine that.

Speaker 1 (41:15):
I mean I watched it yesterday. Their lasting total offense
last on third down, and he's an offensive coach.

Speaker 4 (41:21):
I mean they were down Ridley, but I don't think
it mattered.

Speaker 3 (41:23):
You're right, it just doesn't look esthetically pleasing or you know,
remotely good.

Speaker 1 (41:30):
How about Kurt Signetti.

Speaker 4 (41:31):
He's not going to the NFL. Come on, I.

Speaker 1 (41:35):
Wouldn't upgrade in the Big ten. I'd take a call
from the NFL. I'd go Saturday to Sunday. I'm not
going Indiana to Penn State. I'd go Saturday to Sunday.
I'd take the call.
