Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
All sorts of stuff going on. Mario Christobal, coach of
the Miami Hurricanes, last hour, Former Bears and Dolphins coach
Dave wandstat in fifteen minutes, it is a Friday. It
is great to have you here. Cowboys get feat thirty
seven thirty late lost. Get to that in a second.
(00:49):
It's been a strange year for the Blazing Five. At
one point I was up to sixty two percent. Last
couple of weeks have been one under five hundred, so
at fifty eight percent, which I would keep, I would
sign off on today. If I to get fifty eight
and a half percent. This is the strangest Blazing Five ever.
I'm taking games I don't want to watch necessarily, and
I'm also taking underdogs. I've been heavy favorites this year
(01:12):
because the market called for it. The winter weather is
moving in. I like four underdogs this weekend. And here's
the blazing five.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Let's blaze it up, fired up, it's Collins Blazon fuck
Bengals and Bills.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
I like Cincinnati getting T Higgins back plus six coming
off extra rest nineteen and nine last five years December January.
That's Burrow. By the way, what's Burrow when his last
eight starts? Eight? And oh he is back. The Bills
have not been good. McDermott's won for his one for
(01:53):
four against the Bengals. The offense now for Buffalo multiple
giveaway is in four straight games. They can't stop the run,
and the Bengals three straight games rushing for over one
hundred yards. T Higgins is back, Joey Gosa out for Buffalo.
(02:14):
Joe Burrow more time to throw upset. Take Cincinnati plus
the six to beat Buffalo outright, Joe Burrow, T Higgins.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Here they go. Thirty twenty eight.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Colt said Jaguars.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
I'll take the Jaguars at home plus one and a half.
They've won ten straight games against the Colts in Jayville.
They own him in Jacksonville, and they're on a three
game winning streak and they have the number one rush
defense that will force force the Colts to throw. The
problem is Daniel Jones has a fibula fracture, not moving
(02:53):
particularly well, and over the last couple of games he's
completing fifty seven percent of his throws. The offense feel
was a little broken since Week nine. These are two
different teams. Jacksonville very good. The Colts average at about
twenty two a game.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
One in three.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Jaguars always good against the Colts in this spot, win
it thirty.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
To twenty four.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Dolphins and Jets. What am I doing? I'm taking the
Jets as a home dog plus two and a half.
Tyrod Taylor, I'm gonna go with him. Ad Mitchell, that
wide receiver that came over from the Colts. Do you
see what he did last week?
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Ah, got some good numbers, eight catches. You see that
top ten pass defense without Sauce Gardner.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Listen, the Jets are playing their butt off.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
They've won three of five, and they're scoring points, and
they're at home and they're a dog. And did you
watch Tua over the last month. I don't know what's wrong.
First of all, he's terrible in cold weather. No touchdowns
for two and three of his last four games, leaves
the NFL with fourteen in their TUA. Something's off, it's
getting cold. The Jets are playing hard for Aaron Glenn.
(04:07):
Not a great team playing hard. I take the Jets
to win and cover twenty seven twenty four, take them in.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
The point, Texans aid, Chiefs, I have to.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Take the hook.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
I'm taking the Texans plus the hook three and a
half four game winning streak. Five of their six road
games this season have been one score games, number one
scoring defense held opponents in five of their last six
games under twenty points. Hunter and Will Anderson against a
beat up Kansas City offensive line that three of their
five starters on the O line are injured, including left tackle, guard,
(04:43):
right tackle. I'm sorry it's a low scoring game. I've
got to take the hook here. Chiefs have been out
gained in three of their last four games. By the way,
in twelve games, they have twenty two sacks Kansas City's
twenty seventh, So CJ. Stroud gonna have a little extra time.
I don't know who wins. I don't know who wins,
but I'm taking the points in the Hawk twenty four
(05:04):
to twenty three. Kansas City in the last second field goal.
I am taking Houston though three and a half point.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
Eagles at Chargers, I'm.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Gonna take the Eagles minus two and a half is
my only favorite. They're four and two on the road.
They beat Kansas City at Bucks and Green Bay on
the road. Number one red zone offense, number five offensive line,
and Saquon Barkley may not be running, but Jalen Hurts,
for some reason, is often a better road quarterback. The
Chargers have faced two teams with a winning record over
(05:36):
the last ten weeks. They got hammered by both of them.
And the offensive line it's not good at all. So
Jalen Hurts last two years on the road, I'm telling
you he's better away from Philly, and I think I
think I have maybe the best O line and unquestionably
the worst O line. I think it's close. I think
(05:58):
the crowd is sixty five thirty vibe. Philadelphia feels a
little bit like a home game. I'm gonna swallow the
two and a half. I'm gonna take Philly twenty four
to twenty jmacho reaction. I don't take dogs. I don't
like to bet games like the Jags Colts, which I
find hard to watch. But I'm taking the underdog Bengals.
(06:21):
I get the Jaguars. I'm taking the Jets. I know,
but I love the Jets call.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
By the way, you know what they're calling Tyrod Taylor,
ty god Taylor is He's seven to one against the
spread in his last eight starts. All he does is
cover and it is cold in New York this week.
I like that call, Buddy.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
I will say this, whenever you get a standalone game,
last night was a standalone game.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Everybody's watching it.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Everybody tends to overreact, and I mean that's just the
way we do it. Standalone games get a lot of discussion,
much more discussion than the average game. Beating the Chiefs
on Thanksgiving did not mean the Cowboys were a super threat.
It meant they can go toe to toe now with
a lot of teams. We don't even think Kansas City's great.
They're five hundred. I don't think losing to the Lions
last night means they stink. It was thirty seven thirty
(07:10):
with about two and a half minutes left. It was
a shootout, and George Pickens was pouting on Prime not
a good headline. They also held Detroit under their average
running I honestly think Dallas going forward, maybe not this year,
has got a lot of things working in their favor.
They it's a great offensive tackle draft and a great
(07:33):
edge rusher draft, at least in the first round. That's
what I would do with their first two picks. So
I think that George Pickens performance late when Ceedie got
hurt that bothers me. That's the Pickens in Pittsburgh. That's
why they moved off him. Whenever there's a great player traded.
I mean, Pittsburgh moved off ab Antonio Brown. You saw why.
(08:00):
You can see why George Pickens. It's too good to
get rid of unless it's worse than you even see
on TV. Mike Tomlin has a high threshold for drama.
They moved off him. So I was hoping you wouldn't
see this. Here was dak on Pickens last night.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
I'm sure Georgia Tay went his best game.
Speaker 6 (08:21):
That's tough when you're.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Playing the way that he's played, when you're the type
of player that he is.
Speaker 7 (08:26):
I'll be the first to say it's hard.
Speaker 6 (08:27):
To do that weekend and week out.
Speaker 8 (08:29):
But I think George can I know George believes he can,
and I think he would just say that this game
wasn't up to a standard.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
And I'm sure he'll own it and I know he'll
be better. I believe.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
I believe words gotten to George Pickens, maybe through an
agent or a representative or a friend. They're going to
franchise tag him, and he's last couple of games not
giving it his best effort. Here was Brian Schottenheimer on Pickens, was.
Speaker 7 (08:53):
Anything you want to pick against?
Speaker 9 (08:54):
It didn't seem like he had to say in energy tone.
Speaker 7 (08:56):
No, I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
I'm want to look at it.
Speaker 7 (08:58):
I mean he was being doubled. You know, a minute CD.
Speaker 5 (09:01):
Went out, they just decided to play everything two man
over there and try to double them and take them away.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
But I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Yeah, that worries me a little, But I think Dallas
the two first round picks, Dak's playing well.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
The O line.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
They need to right tackle in the draft. There's three
of them they need to right tackle with one of
their draft picks. They don't have to draft an edge,
but it's a great edge draft, and if you look
at where they're picking, they'll probably have they'll probably be
able to draft the second or third or fourth best
edge rusher. But I don't think beating the Chiefs on
Thanksgiving meant they were a super Bowl team, and beating
(09:38):
Philadelphia didn't necessarily mean that. But these standalone games, they
just get talked about differently and with more vigor and
enthusiasm and excitement. I thought, you saw a shootout, and
I think the better overall roster today is Detroit. And
Detroit was at home and their running game was rolling.
And I mean we've said this. I mean, go look
at what Detroit's done now. Did it when they had
(10:00):
Ben Johnson? It felt like every Sunday? But Detroit's had
several games this year. Go look out what they did
to the Bears early in the season. Look what they
did to the Cowboys. Look what they did to the Commanders.
I mean, this is what they did to the Ravens.
Detroit right now is a better overall team than Dallas.
They were at home, they felt desperate, and they want
to track me, but it was thirty seven to thirty
(10:21):
two and a half to go.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
Here's something Dave launched at around the corner.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Last time the Chicago Bears won a road playoff game,
Dave Wonstat was the coach. He's now joining us live
here in the studio in Chicago, thirty nine years college
or pro coach. So you must love Ben Johnson because
last week they ran at what forty seven times? And
my argument is we always think of physicality with defense. Actually,
(11:31):
Kyle Shanahan his physicality is with defense and running the football.
So your thoughts on Ben Johnson's willingness even with Caleb
and all those receivers to run it.
Speaker 9 (11:40):
Well, I got fired for running the ball too much, Okay,
So I mean I was the extreme, but I didn't
have a quarterback right, So I love what he's doing.
And when you really think about it, you mentioned Kyle Shanahan.
When we were working together at Fox on the pregame show,
I was assigned once to do a study when the
Niners and Shanna We're going to the super Bowl, and the.
Speaker 7 (12:01):
Thing that jumped at me.
Speaker 9 (12:02):
They were shifting and motioning, calling more than anybody in
the NFL.
Speaker 7 (12:07):
And they had runs and.
Speaker 9 (12:10):
Passes as you were watching that tape, and if the
play first started with the line stepping in the back,
you couldn't tell if it was a runner pass. And
that's what he Ben's doing. I mean, Ben is mirroring
the run with the pass and motion and shifting. The
guys doing a phenomenal job. And let's give this offensive
line some credit. Four of the five starters on the
(12:32):
Bears offensive line.
Speaker 7 (12:33):
Are new, started from a year ago.
Speaker 9 (12:36):
And I'll tell you what, Ryan Poles, the general manager,
you know, the people have been on them, but they
signed the center and two guards. No one's been hurt
and these guys have just gotten better every week and
every week. So combination of Ben with what he's doing
on offense, and I'm going to give the offensive line
credit for how they've come along and stayed healthy.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
This rivalry has been one side. Did Packer games feel different?
Speaker 7 (13:03):
They do now, I mean, you know, I mean they
two now.
Speaker 9 (13:05):
I mean the Bears beat them in the last game
of the season last year, you know, and it was
just a mess here with everything going on. But I
think the biggest difference has been a quarterback. I mean,
the six years that I was with the Bears, I
had six starting different quarterbacks. Six good good luck, Okay,
I'm care how much you're.
Speaker 7 (13:22):
Running the ball. And that's when Brett fav was starting,
and then it was Rogers.
Speaker 9 (13:26):
So you know, I got to believe that the consistency
at quarterback has been the difference with the Packers over
the years. And you know, I don't see it changing
right now. And this is talking about Bears quarterbacks now.
Mitch Trubisky first round pick, Justin Fields first round pick.
So it wasn't a bunch of free agent that they
signed off off the field. It just hasn't worked for
(13:49):
Bears at the quarterback position.
Speaker 7 (13:51):
So I think this year with.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Calem So, Mike Tomlin, former player Big Ben saying things
this week the fan channing fire. Tomlin, My take has
always been with Pittsburgh. I mean, they haven't won a
playoff game in eight years. You can be a really
good coach, but the league is pivoted offense. I mean,
(14:12):
if you start looking now, who ends up in Super
Bowls and conference championships. It's overwhelmingly offensive coaches. I mean,
Chicago turned it around offensive coach. Denver's got a young quarterback.
Offensive coach you look at. I mean Jacksonville's good again,
offensive coach. Is it possible that, Tomlin, the message gets lost.
It's an old team. They've heard the stories and the
(14:33):
motivational tactics. Is it possible it's time to just good coach,
get a different environment.
Speaker 9 (14:39):
Yeah, because there's not as much turnover in collwee. You're
turning guys over two or three years. So you can
have college coaches that last a long time.
Speaker 7 (14:47):
Al Davis.
Speaker 9 (14:48):
Al Davis used to always say, I remember when we
were working against the Raiders. I was at the Cowboys
and he was talking to Jimmy or Jerry or someone,
and he was always talking about ten years would be
the max that he felt that goat coach could be
in one position and one just for what you're saying,
I mean, and and yeah, players move around a little
bit more now than they did back then, but uh,
(15:11):
you know, you got to have a special group of
guys before it gets told. And you know you talk
about the Steelers and the standard. I mean, you know
it's uh, I think now that the fans have turned,
ex players have turned. And I was back there in
June for the US Open and I had lunch with
Dart Rooney and Mike Palman came in and we were
sitting there talking. Those guys are connected at the hip.
(15:33):
I mean, there's not going to be a problem there.
But I just wonder how long Mike really wants to
put up with that type of approach because I don't
see it getting any better. I mean, I don't you know.
I mean, Aaron is what he is. The defense is
getting old. So I mean it's a tough situation. I mean,
looking back on it, and I was curious when when
(15:55):
it was going back it was June and they had.
Speaker 7 (15:57):
Signed Aaron Rodgers. You remember it was late who's the quarterback.
Speaker 9 (16:00):
I was waiting for them to trade TJ. Watt for
a couple ones and go with Mason Rudolph the backup
quarterback for this year, because where are they going next year?
You tell me where they going to be picking, They're
going to be in the middle of the pack, and
they're right back to the quarterback scenario.
Speaker 7 (16:17):
It's tough to get out of that cycle unless you
do something drastic, you know.
Speaker 9 (16:21):
And I know that's all hindsight, but I'm sure they're
thinking about that now.
Speaker 7 (16:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
I suggested it a couple of years ago. Is that
with TJ.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
Watt, the defense hasn't been very good for the last
three years, not nearly as good as what they're paying
for it, So go get a quarterback. So you know, listen,
the Cowboys lost the track meet last night. They need
a right tackle. They have two first round picks. It's
a good tackle draft to replace my Kid's a good
edge draft. I like where Dallas is going. The George
Pickens thing is interesting. Yeah, So Jerry has shown if
(16:52):
you're not committed or focused, des Bryant, he'll move off you.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Zeke.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
He got tired of him. Micah the podcast, It's the celebrity.
Dak is always football first. Yeah, you gotta love Dak, right,
he always football first. Those offensive Linemen, Tyron Smith, Zach Martin.
Football first, the Pickens thing would bother me.
Speaker 9 (17:16):
Yeah, you know, And I remember when we first went
to Dallas. We were going to be we were trying.
We had no players. We were turning everything over, I
mean from the ground floor, you know that.
Speaker 7 (17:26):
And we signed a couple.
Speaker 9 (17:28):
Of free agents that were out there and people were
and they have talented guys, uh like Pickens. And after
it didn't work out, I remember us all sitting around
and Jimmy making the comment, you know, there's a lesson
to be learned here. Those guys are out there for
(17:48):
a reason, right, and the team that they're coming from,
there's a lot more about. Look at the Steelers, Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
And to tolerant drama coach, I.
Speaker 9 (17:56):
Mean Colin, I mean it's you know, I used to
call call and coach all the time.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
You know, I'm the coach of FS one, Yes.
Speaker 7 (18:03):
You are, you are, you are the head coach.
Speaker 9 (18:05):
But when you look at Antonio bron the Bears made
a trade for Chase Claypole, remember to receive him not
long ago.
Speaker 7 (18:12):
Gave up a second round.
Speaker 9 (18:13):
Paty got to Chicago and they got rid of him.
Well in five weeks or a half a year or something.
So my point is, Mike Tomlin, if he's going to
be as.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
Patient with a player as anybody.
Speaker 9 (18:25):
As anybody in the league, and you jump up there
and you.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Grab them, free agency can be a little bit of
a used car lot.
Speaker 7 (18:33):
Oh, one hundred percent.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Owner knows what the odometer is. You got to buy on.
There's risk involved, one hundred percent.
Speaker 9 (18:40):
And you know they were And it's not about talent
and it's you know, but it's just the long season.
You want guys that during the ups and downs of
a game are going to be able to stay at
that high level. And uh, obviously Pickings and I'm not
putting the game last night on him.
Speaker 7 (18:57):
I mean they turned the ball over.
Speaker 9 (18:59):
And that defil Matt Ebraflus is really Matt Ebraflus is
a good defensive coach, trust me.
Speaker 7 (19:04):
I mean I know Matt when he was here at
the Bears, I sat with him, we talked football. He
knows what he's doing. They got some players, they're improving.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Yeah, big doesn't.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
Detroit's got explosive players. You've seen in the last four years.
They have games like this at home, especially, But when
you're an.
Speaker 7 (19:19):
Average when you're a defense. It's coming along.
Speaker 9 (19:21):
You can't turn the ball over on the other side,
you know what I mean?
Speaker 7 (19:25):
And three turnovers to none last night.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
You got that one had won a lot of the stats,
time of possession, first down, Dallas was fine, turnovers and
they couldn't make one big stop late.
Speaker 9 (19:37):
If I said to you one team had three turnovers
and the other one had zero, there it is. It's
a fourteen to twenty one point lot.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Look at the Rams in Carolina last week.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
If you turn the ball over, especially on the road,
good luck Philadelphia plays on Monday night. We're gonna get
to a couple of college topics. Philadelphia is interesting. Jalen Hurts, strangely,
is actually better on the road sometimes than at home.
He gets away from the press. Sure it is strange
that Sakuon Barkley there's no juice? Is it fatigue? Is
(20:07):
it the OC? Is it the offensive line? Sat Quon
Barkley looked like next to Barry Sanders and Walter Payton,
the best running back I've ever seen, and this year nothing?
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Did he just lose his fastball?
Speaker 7 (20:20):
I don't may.
Speaker 9 (20:21):
I think it's a little bit a combination of a
couple of things. One little bit of Super Bowl hangover. Okay,
what's the team that's real? That's real? And I think
the other thing too is I think the Dallas Cowboys
tore their heart out the week before they were up
twenty one to nothing against Dallas, and Dallas beats him
twenty three to twenty one.
Speaker 7 (20:40):
I think that because the look on that sideline was bad.
Speaker 9 (20:44):
Look, why isn't Barkley running it more? Jalen Hurts is
running the ball now about seven times a game on
an average. When they had that Super Bowl run a
couple of years ago, he was ten eleven runs a game.
And anytime you're threatened by the quarterback running it, from
a defensive standpoint, you have to take somebody off the
running back and be accountable for the quarterback.
Speaker 7 (21:07):
And right now they're not doing that.
Speaker 9 (21:08):
They're putting everything on Berkley, and they're saying, Jalen Hurts,
if you want to run it, prove it that you're
going to run the ball. But I don't take Kevin Patolo.
I worked with him at Buffalo.
Speaker 7 (21:19):
I know him. He's a good coach.
Speaker 9 (21:20):
This Nick Sirianni is an offensive guy.
Speaker 5 (21:24):
You know.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
I'm not talking to him to solve the problem.
Speaker 7 (21:27):
Coach tell I know, I mean.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
It's floor's offense was broken a month ago. He solved it.
Thank you, I mean, dude, to take take it over.
You're the head coach, You're an offensive guy. You and
Kevin have been together forever. Don't let the guy's house
get egged. Yeah, you get that right.
Speaker 9 (21:46):
It might be better for Philly to get on the.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
Road to get out of Philly.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
I think getting out of town actually helps them. Plus
the Sulfi crowd will be by sixty five thirty five Philadelphia.
Speaker 10 (21:55):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
Absolutely, let's do some college Big ten championship. I worry
a little little bit about Ohio State off the Michigan
win and looking at the playoff being you know, dipping
a little bit. But I was told this by a
coach who has been on the sidelines for Ohio State
in Indiana. Ohio State looks like bigger. They look like
(22:16):
they got fifteen NFL guys. Ohio State's got better players,
Their coaching staff's excellent. Julian saying is great.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Oh my, he is.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
I like Ohio State here. I think it just comes
down to they've got Indiana beat Oregon at Oregon. But
Oregon doesn't have, as we saw at the end of
last year, Ohio State guys.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
Yet I like the buck guys.
Speaker 7 (22:40):
You yeah, two things here that Ohio State.
Speaker 9 (22:43):
Ohio State has not been behind in a pressure situation
at the end of the game. And you've got Julia saying,
who's playing leading the country seventy How do you complete
seventy almost seventy nine percent of your.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
Pass incredibly good and accurate for a kid.
Speaker 7 (22:58):
Oh, it's unbelievable.
Speaker 9 (23:00):
And he's got two receivers he's leading. You know, both
Tate and Jeremiah Smith are leading the nation in plays
over forty yards. So he's got weapons with him. Yes,
But here's what I think this game comes down to.
You got saying, who's a freshman, okay, and you've got Mendoza,
who's a five year senior. Okay, he's been around, So
(23:20):
you've got a little bit more experience, obviously, a lot
more experience with Indiana, and Indiana has been battle tested
by that.
Speaker 7 (23:27):
I mean, they have been behind.
Speaker 9 (23:30):
It's final drive against Iowa, it's an end of the
game against Penn State, it's Oregon at the end of
the game, I mean, and they have found ways when
they look up at that scoreboard and there's six seven
minutes left or less. Against a talented team, they have
found ways to win the game.
Speaker 7 (23:48):
Ohio State hasn't yet. You know, so I don't know.
Speaker 9 (23:52):
I'm not selling Indiana short by any means. I think
you know, think about this, you said, Ohio State offensive line,
they look the part.
Speaker 7 (24:01):
They've given up the fourth.
Speaker 9 (24:04):
Top ten in the least amount of tackles for losses.
That's who's number two in the nation, Indiana. As far
as making tackles for a loss, there's your battle. It's
going to be a battle up front here. And then
if it comes down to a close game at the end,
what quarterback can make a play? I mean this and
saying this could be the first game.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
That he's going to have to win the game in
sane yep. For Ohio State, we've already seen Mendoz that
do it at Penn State.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
That was one for the ages.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Finally, you know the Miami Hurricanes, Well, they beat Notre
Dame head to head. They had four common opponents, they
were better against them. Miami's got the better defense, Miami's
got the better passing game. And again, once the records
are the same head to head. We know this in
the NFL, that's the first thing they use.
Speaker 7 (24:49):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
I have Mario Christabaul on last hour. I and I'm
a Notre Dame. I love Notre Dame, and I think
they'd be favored if they played. But that's not what
this is about. I think Miam he's getting host here,
don't you? Oh?
Speaker 7 (25:01):
One hundred percent? One hundred percent? I mean I uh yeah.
Speaker 9 (25:07):
If you look at both teams, everybody keeps saying, well,
Notre Dame would be favored.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
I would say, why, Well they were favored the first time?
Speaker 8 (25:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (25:13):
Why why? I mean, you know, what defense would you like?
Speaker 3 (25:16):
Miami?
Speaker 7 (25:17):
Thank you? What quarterback would you like? Miami?
Speaker 3 (25:21):
Probably? No, Miami.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
No.
Speaker 7 (25:22):
Absolutely.
Speaker 9 (25:23):
Did you see in the pick game? I guess myol
mawater last game in the season. Those receivers made some catches,
you know, NFL catches for Miami.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
No, Miami's Miami looks the part. We by the way,
they have the best edge rusher in the sport right now,
Bain that kid could be on the second third pick.
So Miami's got the great edge rusher. Miami's got great receivers.
What Notre Dame has is a terrific coach, so does Miami.
And I love the running back. Yeah, he is a
great player. But again, I this can't be about the
(25:54):
spread and it can't be about what I think four
common opponents head the head matchup. Now people have said, well,
I mean it was the first and I said this,
I said, you got to contextualize that first game. Well,
when I watched the Pit game, it did make me
think differently, and it made me get a microscope out
and go look at their standings the NCAA, the head
(26:14):
to head I'm sorry, let me.
Speaker 7 (26:17):
Ask you this.
Speaker 9 (26:17):
What about if Texas didn't go play Ohio State the
first game and lose by it once they did? Yeah,
they did. We're talking about you know what I mean.
I mean, if so, I don't know, you shouldn't get penalized.
Miami shouldn't get penalized for playing Notre Dame.
Speaker 7 (26:32):
That's That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
Siley, Penn State a little bit of a circus, you
know it well, reportedly finalizing a deal for Matt Campbell.
According to Yahoo give Yahoo credit. That's a pretty good get.
Is it not for late in the process?
Speaker 7 (26:46):
It is for what what you're working with.
Speaker 9 (26:48):
At Iowa State. I've been there, I've coached up against them.
That's a tough job, and he has done a very
good job. He's uh, you know, he's a smart guy,
good to good staff. Yeah, I don't know, you know
where it fits, but recruiting and stuff. He's kind of
a East Coast guy, so he'll tie in there. I
(27:09):
think it's a good hire for him, I really do.
I know everybody's up in arms and stuff, but uh, yeah,
he's a good hire for him. And how do you
know call it? You know, everybody wants to hire the
name guy that.
Speaker 7 (27:21):
Wasn't gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Kelly didn't work at LSU.
Speaker 9 (27:24):
No, So I mean, you know, hire the guy that
that you feel good about, that you can communicate with.
Speaker 7 (27:30):
And I think that's what they've done.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
Yeah, Dave wanstat last time the Bears won a road
playoff game.
Speaker 3 (27:36):
Wow, those are hard to hoo.
Speaker 7 (27:38):
Did you beat We beat Minnesota in Minnesota?
Speaker 3 (27:41):
Yeah, there was a quarterback for them for them.
Speaker 9 (27:43):
It was Warren Moon, I believe, Yeah, Warren Moon, Chris Carter,
Robert Smith. That was a good offense coach.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Remember the game?
Speaker 7 (27:51):
Do I remember the game?
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Third?
Speaker 9 (27:53):
Yeah? I remember the game we blocked the punt. We
blocked the punt. We had Steve Walsh was our quarterback
and we were you know, were bon coach. We ran
the ball as you can imagine, and we had the
little boots and waggles, the movement passes at Chicago uses
and uh and then we forced them to kick field
goals rather than touchdowns in the red zone.
Speaker 7 (28:12):
That was the difference in the game. That's field goals.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
Yeah, nobody wants to kick those anymore.
Speaker 7 (28:17):
Go Ford, go for it?
Speaker 3 (28:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (28:19):
Did Detroit go for it last night?
Speaker 3 (28:21):
The Detroit scale back a little bit and the go
for it stuff?
Speaker 7 (28:23):
Thank god?
Speaker 3 (28:24):
Yeah, thank god?
Speaker 7 (28:25):
Damn cam oh for seven.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
That would make you think twice about it, right, good
seeing the coach.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
Thanks all right.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Herd Line on the other end, be sure to catch
live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon eastern nine
am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio FS one and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 5 (28:42):
Tomorrow, for the first time in conference history, Number one
and number two collide.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
In the Big Ten title game.
Speaker 5 (28:49):
Ticeman front Runners collide as Julian sand leads Number one
Ohio State against Fernando Mendoza and number two Indiana. Coverage
begins tomorrow at six thirty eastern on Fox.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
Let me tell you something.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
If Miami Mario Cristobal next hour, If Miami doesn't make
the college football playoff, I would not want to face
them in a bowl game. And with the Pulan Weed
Eater bowl game, They're gonna be in a bad mood.
I'm telling you right now that that freshman receiver, they
are edge rushers.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
They got this.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
I mean, Miami is more impressive if you take Love
out for Notre Dame, the great running back. Miami is
more impressive on television to look at because I think,
now defense, no question, Miami defense, no passing game, Miami
head to head, Miami common opponents Miami. If I've watched
(29:41):
Miami play five times, Notre Dame five times, Love is unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
For Notre Dame.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
I mean you could make an argument he's the fourth
or fifth best player in college football. The running back
Jeremiah Love, He's unbelievable. Their run game is really good.
They got two running backs.
Speaker 5 (29:53):
Price is awesome. What is this Miami lobbying? I mean,
you're Malachai Tony. That receiver good good, He's really good.
But the Notre Dame quarterback is a better prospect than
the prospect.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
Yeah, Miami quarter I care about prospect. I care about today.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
Oh yeah, well you care about today. How did Beck
do against Louisville as a double digit favorite? He vomited
all over.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
Himself, had like six interceptions, fine, not six, but like three.
He was terrible.
Speaker 5 (30:21):
Come on, stop the Miami lobbying common notre name team.
Marcus Freeman could take them to the national championship this year.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
That's how good this team is.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
Have you seen him many second half points they've given
up in like the last eight games.
Speaker 3 (30:34):
Nor Marcus Freeman's great. Yeah, their resume says, what's their
big quality win? They don't have any bad losses? Okay,
all right, I.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
Mean you can say Indiana schedules week they went to
Oregon and Hammer win the Ducks.
Speaker 5 (30:52):
Well okay, we I mean listen, you want to do
that now or get their headline heard line.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
I'm just saying I need some time to operate on stuff,
all right, Jmack with a.
Speaker 7 (31:01):
News No, no, turn on the news.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
This is the herd line news.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Let's get to the NFL.
Speaker 5 (31:08):
Justin Herbert Colin he will play likely likely not a
lock likely to play on Monday. He only missed ten
snaps after busting up his hand against the Raiders, and
he did operate exclusively out of the shotgun in that matchup.
Here's the bad news for the Chargers. If they decide, hey, Herbert,
(31:29):
sit this one out. Let's we want you as close
to one hundred percent next week against the Chiefs. That's
a huge game, Colin, much bigger than this non conference
That's that's right.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
That's one of the reasons in the Blazing five that
I lean Philadelphia. Jalen Carter may be out, No, he's out,
he's out, Yeah, but they have other I mean, their
defense is not a concern Herbert. I mean, ask yourself this,
with the Chiefs coming up, what if Herbert in the
first quarter gets hit a couple times and you're like,
you could see the Chargers going time out, get him
(32:00):
out of there, that we'll get I mean, if Philadelphia
in the first quarter starts winning the line of scrimmage
and Herbert gets whacked, which, by the way, this year
he and cam Mood have been hit more than any
other quarterback, you could see the Chargers saying enough, let's
keep him for next week.
Speaker 5 (32:17):
The season's over if Herbert goes down and can't play
for the mat game. So that's why I would sit him. Now,
I know that Harball is a tough guy. Herbert's a
tough guy. He's gonna want to play. But just remember
the Chargers don't have their starting tackles okay, and.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
Their interior line is the lowest rate in the league.
Speaker 5 (32:33):
This is not a smart decision. Again, maybe it's just me.
Trey Lance would give them no chance. This line probably
balloons to seven and a half. If it's Lance, maybe more.
I mean Trey Lances. He's not an NFL quarterback. So
a tough one for the Chargers, and that's more bad
news for the Cowboys, who will be very upset if
the Eagles win. All right, let's move on to more
quarterback issues. And that's my guy, JJ McCarthy in Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
I don't want to take credit for him, is my guy.
Speaker 5 (32:59):
He only has six starts, but he's been terrible and
it's really impacted Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Colin, I don't know if you saw this.
Speaker 5 (33:05):
Justin Jefferson did like nothing last week two catches for
four yards from Brosmer, but he hasn't done well on
the McCarthy starts. Here's one of the best receivers in
the league. This is not diva behavior, but he's just
a little upset, which is understandable.
Speaker 3 (33:19):
Here we go.
Speaker 10 (33:21):
Now, I wouldn't say wasted. Obviously, it's a difficult season.
You know, it's probably one of the most difficult seasons,
just off of the circumstances, having a young quarterback, having
a different team, having young players on the on the team.
So it's just, you know, one of those years. You know,
not every year is going to be, you know, our
(33:41):
top tier year. For me, you know, it's really a
part of the game. So it's just all on me
to to you know, expect a lot from these guys
and to improve on anything that we need to improve on.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Yeah, this was gonna be one of my picks until
I heard Jayden Daniels was gonna play.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
I backed out of it.
Speaker 5 (34:02):
I'm not a chicken like you are, So I will
be talking about this game in the headline's final hour.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Just a quick note on Jefferson.
Speaker 5 (34:11):
There was news today elsewhere in the league that could
impact Minnesota for next year.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
I'm sure you saw Kyler Murray done for the season.
Thank you for I did not see that.
Speaker 5 (34:20):
The Kyler put a cryptic thing on Instagram stories like
what a weird way is?
Speaker 3 (34:25):
It was just odd. Something's amiss. It sounds like Kyler's done.
Speaker 5 (34:28):
I think you got to give McCarthy another chance. But
I'm curious, do you think Kevin McCarthy and the brain
trust not Kevin McCarthy. Kevin O'Connell and the brain trust
in Minnesota says, do we kick.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
The tires on Kyler Murray? I think I think it.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
I think you can get mac Jones for a much
cheaper price, not a lot of drama. I think mac Jones. Remember,
Kevin O'Connell wants you to run his play. He didn't
want you to add lib out of it. Yeah, so
I think mac Jones is the play.
Speaker 3 (34:56):
I really do that. And by the way, bring.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Mac Jones in if you get a again, if you
get the Baker number, well, if you get the Sam number,
you can keep all your other great players.
Speaker 5 (35:06):
That sounds good. I need to check his contract. I
think he signed a two year deal with Lynch and Shanahan,
so I don't even know that he I mean, you
don't trade him if you're the Niners, right, Yeah, Kyler
Murray though his market, Colin, It's gonna be really interesting
because again, you cold weather division just forget about it, right,
(35:27):
You don't want him going outdoors twice a year and
thirty degree weather. So I think that removes like half
the league. And then you're like Pittsburgh. You're like, oh,
maybe Pittsburgh really you want him outdoors in Cleveland, in Baltimore.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
And Pittsburgh needs to solve their quarterback position for the
next fifteen years. They've been duck taping it for too
many years.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
Yeah, this Minnesota, we'll see MacArthur. O'll get another shot.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
Final story, Colin is the.
Speaker 5 (35:51):
Kansas City chief They have arguably the biggest game of
the weekend Sunday Night football against the Texans.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
This number had.
Speaker 5 (35:57):
Dropped to three, it's back up to three and a half. Listen,
the Chiefs are dominant in one score games. Last year
they have been less so this year. Here's Travis Kelsey
talking about these close games.
Speaker 6 (36:10):
I'm sure everyone's sick of us saying it, but we're
a few plays away from being a you know, a
one scene. In my mind, all the losses are within
one score, and there's a handful of plays within those
games that are determining the outcome. It's crazy that you
watch the film and you see what's real, and what's real.
Speaker 7 (36:32):
Is that we're this close, man, We're this close.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
I think there's two issues. One, the on line as
of this morning is a mess going up against Houston.
Speaker 4 (36:45):
That is mad.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
That is whatever the under is, go ball the under.
And the second problem is, and it's fair to say
Chris Jones, Jason has not had a great year, and
they just don't get people off the field on third down.
And as you know, I mean, there's never been talented receivers,
never been more talented quarterbacks. They're not getting people off
the field. And now in their division, Denver and the
Chargers have elite coaches and really talented quarterbacks. So I
(37:09):
think it just if you look at the history of dynasties,
the windows closed pretty quick. Even the Patriots closed. They
had two different dynasties, the early one in the late one.
For ten years they didn't win a Super Bowl. And
that's why you didn't like them to make the playoffs.
I did, but I didn't. I said, I think the
dynasty part is over and it's just age. Chris Jones
is older. Travis Kelcey older can't get people off the field.
(37:32):
This is what it looks. They haven't fallen off a
cliff in terms of performance. They were in close games
last year one of them. They're in close games this year.
They're losing them. So they haven't gone They're not getting
blown out, but you can tell they just they're just
the on line. They have got to attack it in
the offseason. It feels like the last three years, once
they moved off Joe Toney, you're like, uh oh, Joe Toney,
(37:55):
Chicago picked him up. Boom, and look what it's done
to there in Serio Olte.
Speaker 3 (37:59):
Now that's a good point.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
I just looked and it looks like a gentleman named
Jania Morris maybe starting at one of the tackles this week. Colin,
don't look at his pro football grades. You will go
blind from all the redness. It is very bad. This
guy's not good. Remember they went and addressed the offensive
line with I think Jalen Moore. Is that what they
got the kid from San fran it's not really working out.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
He was a backup with the Niners.
Speaker 5 (38:22):
So again, Kelsey could talk about being close by the way,
how about the pass off Kelsey's hands at the gold
line against the.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
Eagles that results in an interception goal the other way
that change a game.
Speaker 5 (38:31):
He's not wrong about that. I just don't see how
they turn it around this before.
Speaker 3 (38:35):
I agree. I totally agree Jmack with the news.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
Well that's the.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
News, and thanks for stopping by the herd Line News.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Yeah, today we can put the schedule up. It's a
very interesting weekend. I mean there are games that don't
feel high profile, like Colts at Jags.
Speaker 3 (38:52):
That's going to go a.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
Long way in a termining playoff seedings. Yeah, thank you
for the staff. They just put this up. Chris Jones
PFF rank this season's thirty seventh. Last year it was first,
and that's that's one of the reasons Chris Jones has
always been a big play guy in big moments. He's
like he's like like Aaron Donald was like this, like
if it was a big third down in a Super
Bowl or a playoff game, you had to triple Aaron Donald.
(39:15):
That was Chris Jones. You don't have to anymore. So
they can't get people off the field like they used to.
There's some interesting games and I think there's all sorts
of potential upsets. I already told you I think Cincinnati
upsets Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
I do.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
I think the Jets upset Miami. You know what you
talked me out of taking the Bears in Green Bay.
You singularly did it, and then I started. Once you
did it, I went and listen to people who I respect,
and a lot of people like the Packers.
Speaker 3 (39:48):
Oh interesting, real quick on that Browns Titans. I kind
of want to call the Titans outright dub and then
a Chadur loses to the Titans, and now.
Speaker 5 (39:58):
It's like, oh, we got to get we got we
gotta get who's he got from Oregon?
Speaker 3 (40:02):
What's his face? We gotta get Dylan gab No, Dylan Gabriel.
We got to get him back in starting next week.
Speaker 5 (40:07):
That would be a bad loss for Shador if they
lose to the Titans at home.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
It's it's gonna be a great Sunday.
Speaker 5 (40:12):
Saturday's phenomenal with the college football game, dude, you got
to be careful with the gambling this weekend.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
There's so many good games in the field. Cabell I
started the week with a loss. Last week. I got
Georgia Bama.
Speaker 5 (40:24):
Yeah, a lot of injuries popping up in that I
don't know if we'll get to it in the final hour.
Speaker 1 (40:28):
But I like Georgia. But Bama has absolutely had Kirby
Smart's number. Yes, that is a great coaching matchup Kaylin
de Borr and Kirby Smart. Those are good staff. Forget
the NFL guys. Great staff.
