Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Christmas Rider around the Corner live in Chicago. It's The
Herd wherever you may be, however you may be listening
the playoff picture. We've got clarity, Denvers for real, the
Bears are for real, Packers probably trending the other way.
New England's still fine, but we all knew with New

(00:49):
England kind of still in a rebuild. Second half yesterday
banged up whole line sort of proved it. But we
do it every Monday at this time. We take swings.
I'm wrong often, and here we go where Colin was right.
I said all off season and I've said for the
last month. I think the Chiefs are in a rebuild,

(01:11):
not just a red tool next year. They're forty four
million over the cap. They got shut out in the
second half. Isaiah Pacheco was their leading rusher, at twenty
one yards. I don't think they're talented enough. I think
they need to address the O line, the D line,
the running back room, the tight end room. I had
them as a wild card team, and yeah they've had

(01:34):
some close losses, but there was no question watching yesterday,
this is not a team that's just you know, a
player or two away.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Where Colin was wrong.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
You know, I've always said Dan Campbell builds a great culture.
I don't consider him a scheme guy. But since he's
taken over the play calling, he's been great. Detroit's number
two in total offense, number one in yards per play.
He is unlocked Jamison Williams. He's done a great job.
Dan Campbell is a much better coach calling plays than

(02:06):
I would have imagined. That offense is not the problem
Brian Branch. Losing him in the back end at really
hurts because you got to win some shootouts in the
NFC the way the quarterbacks are developing. But I've been
a little hard on Dan Campbell. I think he's done
a great job taking over play come.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Where Colin was right.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
All my concerns with Brian Schottenheimer have surfaced. With extra
time to prepare that offensive performance two for twelve on
third down just not good enough. Six seven and one.
They're now a bad red zone team, eighteenth in the league.
And again, that's with Dak, that's with a run game,
that's with elite wide receivers. They're just not a consistent team.

(02:52):
I do think the future is brighter than many believe.
But all the things we worried about getting out coached
in big spot situationally being mid they've all surfaced.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Where Colin was wrong.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
I was okay with Pete Carroll being hired with the Raiders.
I thought he would steady the ship. It's been a disaster.
He's lost his fastball seventy five total yards against Philadelphia.
Come on, that's that's brutal. So his last couple of
years in Seattle, it didn't feel like he was current.
I don't know what the Raiders do well.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
They are.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
They are the worst team in the NFL, and there's
nothing you can point to outside of Max Crosby and
Brock Powers that you like. Where Colin was right, my
guy bo Nicks out played Jordan Love for tuddies four
different receivers, four for four in the red zone. Listen,
I said it when he was at Oregon. I watched

(03:50):
them live twice. Super athletic. Got a Steve Young quality,
hard to get your arms around, never get sacked, very creative,
very deceptive. Not a great deep ball thrower, though he
was eight for twelve yesterday. Downfield.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Where Colin was wrong.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Well, the Jags are a franchise I never trust, but
they've won five straight. You can't run on him. Number
one run defense. Trevor Lawrence in the last several weeks
ten touchdowns, no picks in three games. And they're doing
that without Travis Hunter, their star rookie. So I got
I mean, Trevor Lawrence has always had talent. The Jags
have always had talent. But Liam Cohen they got him,

(04:31):
an offensive guy who had some great moments with Baker Mayfield.
Jacksonville has drafted at the top of rounds for a
long time. There's no question they've got talent, and now
it's all coming together.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Where Colin was right.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
I said Friday, is it possible Philip Rivers will be fine?
He was never athletic anyway. I mean I watched Kirk
Cousins last Thursday. He was money. My prediction was he
never relied on athleticism. Seattle's gonna have a conservative game plan.
It's very possible he's okay. I'll be honest. His arm
didn't have a ton of juice. But I thought Steichen,

(05:07):
with the screens underneath stuff, did a great job calling
the game. And overall, when you don't rely on athleticism,
it makes it easier as you age.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Where Colin was right.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
CJ. Stroud, I keep hearing, wow sophomore slump. Listen, dude
throws one of the prettiest balls in the league. If
you give him a little time, he's money. I will
defend CJ. Stroud. He wants to throw from the pocket.
He's good enough moving Nko Collison. He's got his number
one receiver in the last since Week four, thirteen touchdowns,

(05:44):
three picks, with a very inconsistent run game. They've been
you know, hit and miss. They've had injuries around him. CJ. Stroud,
I'll defend him. That's a franchise quarterback. He'll run if
he has to. But he's developed a really keen sense
of the pocket. Where Colin was right, where Colin was wrong,
and with that. Albert Breer covering the NFL since two

(06:07):
thousand and five, you know, it's funny. Sean Payton text
me the last two years. He said, you guys can
pay attention to the other quarterbacks. They're fine, He goes,
I've got a really, really good quarterback. I thought last
yesterday was a moment where you could no longer deny
he's a special player. He's a special player, and you

(06:30):
can't deny it is that fair?

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Yeah, I mean, he wasn't perfect.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
There were a couple of I think, opportunities for the
Packers to create turnovers.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
But I think part of that is the Bronco is.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Becoming more comfortable in taking the leash off of Bonnicks
and letting him go out there and be a little
bit more of a playmaker. And to me, it was
the downfield throws over and over and over again yesterday
where they were able to get a really good Packers defense,
And there was one in particular Colin that I think
reflected Sean Payton's level of trust.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
In his quarterback.

Speaker 3 (07:03):
Fourth and two, nine minutes left and the Broncos are
up by a point. If they don't pick that up,
the complexion of the entire game changes. And you would
think with a second year quarterback in that spot, maybe
you run the ball, maybe you run a little flat router,
you roll them out and give them the option to
run or throw instead. Sean Payton drops bone Nicks back

(07:26):
and takes a shot.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Down field to Courtland.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Sudden boon Nick hits that the Broncos wind up scoring
a touchdown that gives them the separation they need to
me and that spot on fourth and two. Sean Payton's
confidence to put the ball in bo Nix's hands, but
potentially home field advantage throughout the playoffs on the line,
I think.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Tells you a lot about where they are right now.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Just as far as the progression of Bonnix's growth and
they're trust in him, and the Broncos now look like
I mean again, two more wins and the AFC road
goes through Denver. That's a very difficult place to play, Yeah,
I mean, the Broncos have a lot of things going
right now, and the quarterback is very clearly a big

(08:06):
part of it.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Yeah, even Belichick and Brady didn't want to go to Denver.
It's just a tough place to play with the altitude.
So I'm watching, you know, I said, it's hard to
develop a quarterback and win games simultaneously. That's what Ben
Johnson's done. There was a time in week three or
four I sat on the air you could watch Ben
Johnson's body language. I think he's the best first time

(08:28):
hire since Sean McVay. Let's go back to like week
three and four in you're sourcing where it was a
little choppy early Ben was getting frustrated at press conferences.
We forget that, right they I'm gonna put this delicately.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
They didnt teach him how to play quarterback, Like that's
really what it was, you know, And like they felt
like we had to figure out, like how much we
can throw onto this kid, how much this kid can handle,
because they felt like he was smart and he had
the aptitude to do it. But they got a player
who they felt like was really raw. And one thing
I really respect about the way Ben handled this colin

(09:04):
was going back to the summer, and I think you
and I talked about it a bunch, right like where
they were feeding him through a fire hose, and Ben
didn't really care if it didn't look good in the summer.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
It was we're going to overload.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
Him with information now and then we'll scale it back
as we build the offense, and we'll lean into what
he's good at, and then we'll build him back up
from there. And there are a lot of coaches, I think,
in their first training camp in a new place, that
would be afraid to do something like that, right, especially
in a market like Chicago where a player's performance and

(09:35):
practice is going to be digested in a different way
on a day to day basis.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Ben didn't care. Ben though, Caleb could handle it.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
And I think what you're seeing now, and then I
just went back and looked at a bunch of that
game against the Browns yesterday. He's calm in the pocket.
There was a play in the first quarter he made
where he sat back there, looked at his first raad,
looked at his second rd, let Luther.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
Burden come open over the middle, and just delivered a dart.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
It was just one of those plays where you see
how calm and cool he was in the pocket where
he wouldn't have made that throw two months ago. And again,
it's like a little thing that you don't notice if
you're not looking for it, but it's happening over and
over and over again. And so I think through playing
good defensive football, through building a really really difficult to

(10:21):
deal with run game. They've bought Caleb Williams time to develop,
and now you're seeing the approach that they took with
Caleb Williams over the summer starting to pay off, and
that Caleb has seen a lot now both in practicing
in games and is benefiting from it, and how calm
he looks back there.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
So I will stand by this and die on this hill.
I love Brett Veach, but I said it earlier. It's
Kansas City is like Marvel Comics. They're trying to develop
new characters and they're struggling. They're like Jones and Mahomes
and Travis Kelsey and it's like tru.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
I'm going back to Iron Man, right.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
Yeah, It's like they're trying to develop new guys and
they can't trust. For SHEI Rice and we're these more
of agantic guy and I kind of look at him.
I think it's a bit more of a rebuild and
a retool. I'm looking at the Rams' eighth ninth best player.
It could be Nate Lanman. I look at their fourth
best and it's Travis Kelsey. You may retire. I watched yesterday.

(11:23):
Herbert was better than Mahomes. I think the Chargers have
more elite players. What are you on their future in
Kansas City?

Speaker 3 (11:31):
You know, we always make the parallel to Brady, right
because of the heights that Mahomes has reached early in
his career. And I sort of think that you can
learn some stuff from what happened when Brady tours acl which,
by the way, like interestingly enough, was almost at the
same juncture of Brady's careers has happened with Mahomes now

(11:53):
look back, right, So two thousand and eight, Brady goes
down Matt Castle wins eleven games. That causes the Patriots
to say, Okay, we're going to lean in and try
to win with this aging roster one more time. It
doesn't work in two thousand and nine. Then the beginning
of twenty ten, Belichick goes in and literally tears all
sorts of evidence of any championship football off the walls

(12:13):
and says, we're starting over again. And then they really
got on a heater from a draft perspective, right that
draft in twenty ten, Devin mccordy, Rob Gronkowski Aaron Hernandez
to get Nate Solder of the left tackle the year
after that, the year after that.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
Chandler Jones, Dante High Tower, and they're often running.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
And so I think that's sort of the juncture the
Chiefs are at now where this is going to give
them an organic opportunity to look big picture at where
they're at. Right, we'll see the extent of the ligament
damage beyond just the acl and what that means for
pat in twenty twenty six. But I think it's incumbent
on the Chiefs now to look at it and say,
this isn't just about twenty six, this is about twenty

(12:49):
seven and moving forward and the next iteration of the Chiefs,
And so where does George Carloftis fit into that?

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Where does Nick Bolton fit into that? Where does Trent
McDuffie fit into that?

Speaker 3 (13:00):
Those guys are going to be kind of the veteran
players on the next iteration, Right, how do we put
ourselves in position to draft really well over the next
few years, And when do we separate from Travis Kelcey
and Chris Jones, Because at this point you're looking at
it and saying, well, if Mahomes is only out there
for half the twenty six sies and or three quarters

(13:20):
of the twenty six season, do we want to have
the older guys around? So there are all of these
big picture questions. I think that the Chiefs probably had
to answer anyway that now they're organically going to be
faced with because of the injury their quarterback has. And
so again I think this actually provides an opportunity for
them the same way maybe Brady's acl injury gave the

(13:44):
Patriots some clarity and really I think served as the
first step towards them building the second second version of
their dynasty.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
So listen, Josh Allen is four and oh this year
when he has to score thirty points, thirty there four
zho because he has to. And yesterday another example, he
goes into the phone booth, comes out with a cape,
saves the citizens of Buffalo. Like I've seen this, I
want to see it in the playoffs. I just look
at him and I think to myself, this is not

(14:15):
a conference championship team. They don't have the defense of Houston.
I don't know. I don't think they have the coaching
of New England. I thought it was a great win
for them, but New England still, let's be honest, they're
kind of s a little bit of a rebuild, and
they don't have the depth on the O line right
now that if they're missing a starter, their backups just
aren't aren't gonna be great in those spots. So I

(14:38):
looked at it yesterday and everybody's like, oh, big win
for Buffalo. That doesn't look like a defense that can
end up in a conference championship. And I listen, it's
not Cincinnati where I felt Joe Burrow almost feels like
nobody's here to help me. But you can only ask
Josh Allen to be John Elway plus plus plus many

(15:00):
times before the star quarterback says I need a new guy, right.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
I think there's a psychological element though to what Josh
Allen has done to that Buffalo team.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
He's the best player in the league right now.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
Right so I think he provides you at a certain
level of belief that allows you to fix things as
the game goes on.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Does that make sense?

Speaker 3 (15:22):
So, like, like, I look at it, and I have.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
Some of the numbers written down here.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
The Patriots rushed for one hundred and seventy seven yards
in the first half.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
In the second half, they rush for just.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Sixty nine and sixty five of those yards were on
one play. Drake May only three for forty seven yards
in the in the second half. The Bills were able
to run the ball more effectively in the second half.
Why does that happen, Well, it's because they aren't panicking
when they're down twenty one to nothing, because they have
the best player in the planet, and it gives the
coaches and the players the leeway to fix things on

(15:51):
the fly, which I think has really empowered them and
almost become the identity of the team. And like, look
like you look at the last five weeks, right, four
wins in the last five weeks. They played against the
Bucks that came from behind, finished on a twenty three
to six run. Steelers they fell behind, finished on a
twenty three to nothing run. Against the Bengals. Last week
they fell behind, they finished on twenty one to six run.

(16:13):
And then yesterday against the Patriots in a raucous environment,
Patriots are ready to take the AFC East from go
up twenty one to nothing, they finished that game on
a thirty five to seven run. It's sort of become
who the Bills are and they are going to get
some pieces back.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
And that's what's interesting about this At Oliver could come
back in the playoffs best defensive player. They haven't had
him for most of the year. Jerrel Bernard going to
be back at linebacker on offense.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Does Brandon Cooks get a little bit more comfortable Dalton
Kincaid's healthy. Now, I'm with you, like I'm not sure
they're good enough right now to run the table in
the playoffs and win it all. But I think this
is a team that's getting better, and I think Allen's
allowed them and bought them time to get better. And
so this may look like a different team five or

(16:59):
six weeks from now than it does now, because I
think it looks like a different team now than it
did a month ago.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
By the way, nine field goals, it's the most entertaining
nine field goal game, I would say in league history.
I could not take my eyes off of Philip Rivers.
I know, I said last week I watched.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
He was carrying the flag for all of us out there.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
Colin, Yeah, I mean, listen, you plan for the rest
of the year. They're not, you know, they're obviously Houston
and Jacksonville are in a different space right now. This
is the final Philip Rivers run right there, This is
just really fun. It's eye candy. It's a great time.
But in a few weeks it'll be over, right.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Yeah, I would think so.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
I mean, like what I like about this story more
than anything else. I think it's happening for really pure reasons.
There's no ulterior motive here. This is you know, Philip
actually retired five years ago because he wanted to coach
his son, and his dad coached him, and he wanted
to coach his son, and his son was getting close
to high school agents, so he wanted to go and coach.

(18:03):
And the reason that this opportunity made sense for him
is actually because his high school season was over, you know,
And so he had always over the last couple of years,
kept it in his head that if this ever happened,
like and I remember, if you go back years and
years and years ago, you remember this happened with Josh
McCown and the Bears, I think in like twenty thirteen
or something. And he always had in his head like,

(18:25):
if one of two teams calls, I've got to listen,
the Chargers and the Colts, right, Like, if one of
two teams calls, like I want to at least be
in shape where I can think about this sort of thing.
And so he kept him he kept throwing, you know,
he kept himself young by being around the high school
kids and working with some of the young kids getting
ready for the draft. Riley Leonard was one of the

(18:46):
kids he worked with last year, actually bo Nicks and
Drake May the year before that. And I just think
it's a really good story from that for that reason.
And man, like, you know, you think about the long
field goals in this one, right, a sixty yarder and
a fifty six yard would to another topic for another day,
and how a game has won that way, but if
that sixty yarder stands up as the game winner, we're

(19:09):
all talking about the back shoulder throw that he made
to Alec Pierce at the end of that game put
them in field goal range, which to me, like, that's
a rhythm throw, that's a timing throw. How crazy is it,
Colin that this guy, after a five year layoff layoff,
is able to make that throw in a high leverage
situation against one of like what I think is one
of the three or four best teams in the league.

(19:30):
It's a really remarkable story and I hope everybody can
just take it for that, you know what I mean, Like,
I hope everybody can just take this as a good
story about a guy who loves football that much, who
is coaching his kid, who seasoned ended and now you know,
one of his best friends in all of football calls
him because they have a catastrophic quarterback injury situation. He
steps in and he's able to play another month of football.

(19:53):
I think it's a really good story no matter how
it turns out. But yeah, I'd say this is probably
hit for him. I'd be surprised if he were back
in any capacity next year.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Finally, Dolphins tonight, so they got from their GM And
I think I've always said, Albert I don't like interim coaches.
They go on a winning streak and suddenly everybody's like,
let's give him the job. It's like, no, keep Mike
McDaniel in. He's a good guy, he's a clever offensive guy.
They've gone on a winning streak, they've played well in
cold football. If they beat Pittsburgh tonight and win all

(20:23):
but maybe one of the remaining games, is there a
chance is that because now they're physical that was always
the knock. They're running the ball. Yeah, can Mike can
he say the job?

Speaker 3 (20:34):
Yes, yes, And like you know, it's actually interesting when
you go back to Halloween when they fired their longtime
general manager, Chris Career. The question I asked was what's
the barometer now for Mike McDaniel, And I think what
the front office wanted to see was like, is this
team locked in? Does he still have control of the
locker room, because that was the biggest question right like
earlier in the season, was is his coaching style still working?

Speaker 2 (20:57):
Does he still have command of the law bucker room?

Speaker 3 (21:00):
And you know, I think if you look at what
Mike did, is he he leaned even further into who
he is as a coach. They're running the ball really
really well, Like you said, they're more physical now, they've
taken the ball out of to his hands to some degree.
And I think it's just Mike saying screw it, like
I'm going to do what I believe is best for
this football team to win games on a week two

(21:21):
week basis based on how we're built right now with
no Tyreek Hill, with a quarterback who's somewhat limited.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
And I think what you've seen now is like.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
A a real look at how Mike was able to
reel all this in, even with a different personality, and
put the team in position to win. And it's actually
interesting if you go back to when this first happened again,
like one of the things that that thing I heard
about him having control a locker room, well, one of
the things that kept Steve Ross from pulling the plug

(21:52):
on McDaniel back then was he kept hearing from people
this guy's going to be a great head coach in
his second when he gets his second chance. And I
think Ross sort of thought to himself, well, why would
we fire him then? Why don't we give him a
second chance now and see how he does? And so
I think giving him that opportunity has given him some
new life.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
And my guess would be, this is just a guess.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
My guess would be they hire a new general manager,
they pair him with their cap guy, who now is
in a.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
Little bit of an elevated role in Brandon Shore.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
And then Mike McDaniel goes into twenty twenty six under
evaluation and.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
Let's see what you got, TUA.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
That's the twenty six is the last year of guaranteed
money in his contract, so they aren't married to TUA
beyond twenty twenty six, and it kind of gives them
a new general manager, a chance to come in work
with brendon Shore again, a guy who's very close to
ownership there, work under the president, Tom Garfinkel, and with
Ross and his son in law, and you get to
see now what that new setup looks.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
Like and how Mike McDaniel fits into it. You go
forward from there, and I.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
Think you got to give Ross some credit here, having
patients with McDaniel when he got rid of the general
manager certainly.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
Seems so paid off.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
Albert Breer on a Monday Monday morning quarterback, Thanks Albert Azolas.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
All right, thanks Colin.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Yeah, a lot of these coaches, Brandon Staley got a
little stubborn. You certain coaches like this is who I am,
this is what I am. I'm going to be right.
You got to give the Miami guy credit. He takes
a step back and says, you know what, we gotta
be a little bit more physical. We can't rely on TUA.
The weather's now lousy, and they look like a different team.
They have been running the football. I actually think it's

(23:28):
going to be a really competitive game. They got into
Pittsburgh I think it was like Saturday and they had
a late night practice. They're all playing in the snow,
and it's like, exactly, that's what you gotta do.

Speaker 1 (24:17):
Away welcome back. I'll say you New York football is
an absolute hazmats bill. It's awful. The coordinators for the
LA teams, I mean, Jesse Mintter and Chris Shula are
better than the head coaches in New York. They're just
I mean, New York can't get football right. I mean

(24:41):
Aaron Glenn, he fied Steve Wilkes. Well, Steve Wilkes was
a bounce around the NFL guy, Like this is the
New York Jets. Like Steve Wilkes was the best candidate.
He'd been bounced out of San Francisco. Like they just
don't know what they're doing. It's bad. Ownership's not very good.
Good front offices aren't great. The coaches are over there.

(25:03):
Skis New York football. Chicago's got it going now. I
mean there's just a lot of the big cities in
the NFL, like finally got it all going. New York
has two gigantic tire fires. They can't keep Jackson Dart
out of the blue tent. Aaron Glenn, I mean the defense.

(25:24):
I thought he was a defensive coach. They just awful.
Jmack with the News, No, no.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
This is the.

Speaker 6 (25:36):
I'm such an egomaniac that would anytime you take shots
at the Jets, I feel personally aggrieved, like you're just
dogging me out. It's it is bad. We are down bad.
You know who's not right now is the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Speaker 5 (25:47):
They are on.

Speaker 6 (25:47):
Top of the world, leading the division. And I had
to triple check this stat.

Speaker 5 (25:52):
Are you ready for this?

Speaker 6 (25:53):
Mike Tomlin hosts the Dolphins tonight Monday Night Football. He
is twenty two and zero at home on Monday Night football.

Speaker 5 (25:59):
That is unbelievable.

Speaker 6 (26:01):
Uh, there's a lot of noise about Tomlin's future in Pittsburgh,
Aaron Rodgers. All he's doing is raising Mike Tomlin.

Speaker 7 (26:08):
Every team is looking for that special sauce of a
coach who can lead and be consistent and and you know,
be involved, understand how to delegate, lead when it needs
to be done, and uh, you know, I have a
unique perspective, and guys who played elsewhere have a nique
perspective coming in here. But the guys that are here
should understand how special, uh it is to have a

(26:29):
guy like that lead the team.

Speaker 1 (26:33):
Yeah. I kind of feel like all Steeter seasons look
the same. I I love what's happening with Miami right now.
I'd probably take I think it's a great story. Usually
what I don't like as interim coaches, I like when
you're like, no, we're gonna just stay with this coach
and and very rarely do they turn it around Pittsburgh.

(26:53):
I don't know what I'm getting because week to week,
I mean, Aaron will be fine, but week to week
kind of you get a differ different teams.

Speaker 6 (27:00):
So I'm surprised to hear hear you saying nice things
about Mike McDaniel.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
Boy.

Speaker 6 (27:06):
When they were down bad at like one in five,
they look you were hammering that guy.

Speaker 5 (27:11):
You like him now? Huh?

Speaker 1 (27:12):
Well, I like that. Somebody said, looked in the mirror,
own their stuff, and course corrected. I'm not into rigid people.
He obviously said, let's stop this charade. Leaning on to them.
We're going to be physical and run the football they have.
They look different.

Speaker 6 (27:28):
A Chan looks like he's a go and the young kid,
Jalen Wright has some pop. This was three and a
half last week. You and I got three and a half.
It's a three now. I don't love it as much.

Speaker 2 (27:38):
TJ.

Speaker 6 (27:38):
Watt officially out and it will be under twenty degrees tonight.

Speaker 5 (27:42):
But I'm sure you saw over the weekend.

Speaker 6 (27:44):
Miami went early to Pittsburgh and I think Friday night
or Saturday night they were in the stadium with the
snow on the ground practicing. Yep, Mike McDaniel, he's all
grown up, right. We like that all right, let's move
on to let's stay in the AFC North and go
to Joe. Listen, I think this is going to be
the topic DuJour of the offseason. Forget fixing the Chiefs.

(28:05):
What do we do with Joe Burrow? And I know
Bengals fans say there's no way we're losing him. Colin,
you texted me yesterday. They look like they quit and
I'm one thousand percent behind you. It's interesting that the team,
I mean, Jamar Chase had a bad early drop. The
team would quit a few days after Burrow made some
I'm not having fun react comments.

Speaker 5 (28:24):
This is this is.

Speaker 6 (28:25):
Like you think the Chiefs are a big rebuild. One
of the lanes have nothing.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
One of the linebackers for the Ravens was quoted after
the game saying they weren't ready to play first series.
I mean classic Bengals. It snowed in Cincinnati and the
NFL owner wouldn't clear the seats, which goes against NFL policy.
They're just I mean, it's I feel I was thinking

(28:49):
about this yesterday. I mean, I always say, Chase great management,
not money. You can make money if you're talented in
any field. Joe Burrow was essentially trapped. Trap with a coach,
trap with a bad old line, trap with this ownership.
He's trapped. There's nothing he can do. I mean, what
are you gonna do? Demand a trade?

Speaker 5 (29:11):
Well, we'll speculate a second.

Speaker 6 (29:12):
But here is Burrow officially after the Bengals were eliminated.

Speaker 5 (29:15):
From playoff contention. Here he is talking to the media.

Speaker 6 (29:18):
They haven't been a.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
Good football team. You know, bad football. Bad football teams.

Speaker 8 (29:23):
Do losing things. And you know, if you're if you're
wanting to compete for championships and game in the playoffs,
then number one, your quarterback has to play better than
than I did today.

Speaker 6 (29:40):
Okay, yeah, so over the weekend, and I don't usually
take a lot of social media stuff at all.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
Somebody said to me.

Speaker 5 (29:46):
J Mac asked Colin this, what if the Bears?

Speaker 6 (29:49):
And Ben Johnson said, Hey, can we get Joe Burrow
for Caleb Williams and a couple of draft balls? No,
I know that sounds crazy, but hold on, hold on.

Speaker 5 (29:56):
The Bengals are cheap.

Speaker 6 (29:57):
Caleb Williams is on his rookie deal and he ain't
getting no Patrick Mahomes jock challenge.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
I'd in the world the Bears are on fire. Burrow
can't stay healthy.

Speaker 6 (30:06):
Well, he fits that offense, read and react, release quickly,
none of his backyard football stuff.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
No, you're you're you're not gonna do that. I mean,
people are into Caleb Williams. Turn on the talk ready
on this town. People. You want a guy that's had
three surgeries and is super expensive or a guy in
the cheap for the next four years. Look, it's here.
You're not getting out of that game.

Speaker 5 (30:26):
Okay. I thought you would take that in the heart.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
No, God, no, Caleb Williams right now is more dynamic,
not as accurate, but he's That throw to DJ Moore
yesterday was one of the throws of the year.

Speaker 5 (30:39):
That was a luckbox. Come on.

Speaker 6 (30:40):
That should have been picked off by two different guys. God, wait, anute,
Really you don't think Ben Johnson would be like, yes,
I'll take that instantly.

Speaker 5 (30:47):
No, wow, okay, okay, I'm shocked. All right, let's move
to the final story. Colin and it's Shiner Sanders.

Speaker 6 (30:54):
You got an up close look at him in Chicago yesterday.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
Not good.

Speaker 5 (30:57):
Duh, that's a perfect summation.

Speaker 6 (31:01):
Here Here is the past to Jerry, Judy boy, Jerry
Judy can't catch a cold. Oh my gosh, Jalen Johnson
with a great pick there. The other two picks were
not as good for Shador. He threw three in the game.
Here he is talking about afterward the interception to Judy.

Speaker 9 (31:18):
It is what it is. I'm and I wonder, you know,
ever kick somebody down when you're down, you know, like
he understands that's a big play, and I'm sure he's
hard on hisself, so it's no need for me to
be extra and do that.

Speaker 1 (31:36):
Yeah, listen, that was a bad spot. They're out manned.
Green Bay and Chicago are vying for the division lead
in Detroit, so you had a very motivated Chicago Bears
team with a lot more quality players. But it is
interesting when you see Schadur and Caleb on the field
at the same time. There's the A plus pro prospect

(31:59):
and to be possbacks and I love the.

Speaker 6 (32:02):
Same you know, our colleague Chris Brussard, obviously we love him.

Speaker 5 (32:05):
Yeah, he thought.

Speaker 6 (32:06):
Shadur would be better than Caleb, Like come on, like,
Schadur marginal starter at this stage, and this idea that
he could open campus their number one quarterback stop it folks,
that's definitely not happening under any circumstances. And for people saying,
can you believe they're still bagging on Kevin Stefanski Colin
Browns fans, I think they're what my kids say, de Lulu,

(32:28):
they're just they're losing their mind here. They think Shadour's
the answer, and we just got to get rid of
Stefanski and everything will be fine.

Speaker 5 (32:35):
You watch that game like I don't see it. Man,
Now go.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
Ahead, fire Stefanski. He'll get hired in Cincinnati and beat
you for the next ten Yearsbody wants that job.

Speaker 5 (32:44):
By the way, is that even attractive job?

Speaker 1 (32:46):
Well, I mean, if you're a coordinator and you get
seven times the salary, it's and you get Joe Burrow and.

Speaker 6 (32:52):
You'll be back on the street in eighteen months with
a lot more money in your pocket.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
No, because the Bengals do not fire coaches.

Speaker 5 (32:57):
No, this is the Browns. Though the Browns are t's you.
They're moving off guys instant.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
That's true. J mckle.

Speaker 2 (33:04):
Well, that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
Heard Line News.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
Did you for the record. Okc's big winning Street got
snapped last night by Wendy who came off the bench.
Wendy was unbelievable. The Spurs won that game. So Okac
is uh I said this last week the NBA paralyzed
by dynasties and tanking. Well, they've got one in ok
Se potentially by the end of this year, at least
Baseball's version. The Dodgers are interesting. I mean, I've never

(33:33):
seen a team in the NBA in my life as
great and dominant as Okac. And unless you're a die hard,
none of the casuals care, none care, So you can be.
You can be like anti dynasty. They happen in skiing, soccer, tennis, golf,
college football, pro football, women's basketball. Get over this fear

(33:54):
of dynasties. The NBA probably has another. What would you
rather have a Shach and Kobe dynasty, a big trade
with Orlando, or a kd dynasty, a big you know,
a big move by the worst. For this one, dynasties
are gonna happen. You just hope they're more interesting than
the Tim Duncan dynasty, which which felt kind of sleepy,

(34:17):
but are going to happen in sports because people are
not even By the.

Speaker 6 (34:21):
Way, did you watch the end of that game that
was a hell of a basketball game.

Speaker 1 (34:25):
Are winning, They're good by seventeen a game.

Speaker 5 (34:29):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 6 (34:30):
I think the Spurs match up great with them and
San Antonio wembin Yama late in that game. Who hey,
speaking of dynasties, doesn't Wembin Yama have the potential to
have one. They're not trading Castle, They're not trading Harper.
They look really good man. I nick Spurs tomorrow night,
NBA Cup Final lock in Cowherd.

Speaker 2 (34:50):

Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio.

Speaker 6 (34:58):
App Big East, Big Ten Battle on Fox. College Troops

Friday night, eight.

Speaker 5 (35:08):
Eastern on Fox.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
So you know, yesterday, I really do think between Brabile
and Josh McDaniels, you have a really elite staff, you
know it just they out scheme the Bills staff so badly.
They jumped out to a twenty one nothing lead, and
they beat him earlier this year in Buffalo, and then
Josh Allen, I mean his December numbers. He steps into
a phone booth outcome Superman in December twenty sixty eight

(35:35):
percent completion percentage, sixty eight total touchdowns, nine interceptions. This
is in December, since twenty twenty. This is what he does.
And I mean it's it's we joke about Superman. But
if this keeps going, DC Comics will sue for infringement.
This guy is just absolutely the best football player on

(35:55):
the planet. And they're four and oh. When they've scored
thirty plus points, they have to regularly they get out schemed.
And you know, I just I watched this and I'm like,
I want to see it in the playoffs. I know
what they are now. Now here's Josh after another come
from behind shootout win.

Speaker 10 (36:15):
It's the love that each man in that locker room
has for each other, the willingness to put their body
on the line in order to not let their teammates down.
And I think that's that's the driving force. We're not
out of it. You know, We're going to continue to fight,
one play at a time, no matter what the score is.
If it's in the third quarter, it's in the fourth quarter,
whatever it is. You know, if we've got a chance

(36:36):
and we got the ball, you know, we feel like
we like our chances.

Speaker 1 (36:39):
They've only had two receivers yesterday catch a pass, very
Allen and tight end dependent. The AFC is not as
good at the top, but you have no Ma homes
in the playoffs. No Burrow. Herbert's got a horrible offensive line.
The Texans are not full of a lot of offensive firepower.
So I think all of us are looking at it thinking,

(37:02):
can one player and a couple of nice pieces around
him get to a super Bowl? This is the year
to do it. This is the year to get to
a super Bowl. Whoever comes out of the NFC I
think is the better team, but Denvery yesterday proving they belong.
So Buffalo is going to have to go somewhere. See

(37:24):
Jacksonville can run the ball. That's not good for Buffalo.
New England Traveon Henderson had a couple of huge runs yesterday.
Why I think a lot of it is Buffalo doesn't
defend the run particularly well. Now. Albert Breer took the
optimistic angle on this Bills team going forward.

Speaker 3 (37:44):
They aren't panicking when they're down twenty one to nothing
because they have the best player in the planet, and
it gives the coaches and the players the leeway to
fix things on the fly, which I think has really
empowered them and almost become the identity of the team.
I'm not sure they're good enough right now to to
run the table in the playoffs and win it all,
but I think this is a team that's getting better,

(38:05):
and I think Allen's allowed them and bought them time
to get better. And so this may look like a
different team five or six weeks from now than it
does now, because I think it looks like a different
team now than it did a month ago.

Speaker 1 (38:16):
And they do get ed Oliver Back, who on that
defensive front can be kind of a splash player, but
he's their best player. But just watching this thing yesterday
and I'm thinking to myself when they lead twenty one
to nothing in twenty four to seven, I'm like, New
England's still in a rebuild and they're missing two starters
in the left side of their offensive line. This can't

(38:36):
be happening, you know. It's funny. I was thinking about
this when this game went on. Who would you really
be disappointed in if they got knocked out first game
in the playoffs. And even though I think the Bears
have more good players than Denver certainly does. I think
it tells you where we are with Josh Allen. This
would be the team. I think with a limited roster

(38:58):
we would all go, Okay, you got replace the coach.
We wouldn't do that in Chicago. We wouldn't do that.
In Denver. We wouldn't do that. In Jacksonville. We wouldn't
do that. In New England. We wouldn't do that with Hardball.
We wouldn't do it with Demiko Ryans. But Buffalo despite
because that's they wasted earlier opportunities when they had a

(39:18):
better roster and they weren't paying Josh. So if you
look at those AFC teams, what is the one team
that if they lost their first game, you would say
time for a coaching change. And that's why, A you
got to strike when the iron's hot, and B you
have to take advantage of those tiny windows in the
NFL when you have a great quarterback and a really

(39:41):
good roster. I don't think Buffalo does so. I mean
Trevion Henderson a couple of huge runs they escaped yesterday.
If you go back to twenty twenty and look at
Josh Allen's numbers in December I mean, he's got so
much horsepower. I mean, look at those numbers. Sorry to
the radio audience, but this isn't the worst weather. This

(40:02):
is in Buffalo. You don't playing at Dome. That's a
lot of games at twenty one degrees and windy. He
can't wait for that new stadium that cuts down on that.
I'll say my feeling is Denver and the Houston Texans today.
I would take in the AFC Championship.

Speaker 6 (40:20):
Did you see that matchup hypothetically right now? Be Texans
at Patriots in the first round. Who you got in
that one?

Speaker 1 (40:27):
Let me sleep on it.

Speaker 6 (40:28):
Well, I remember first year quarterbacks in the playoffs or
first time quarterbacks in the playoffs often struggle. Drake May
Caleb Williams careful, yeah, Pour three
