(00:24):
Power Hour Live and about to be wet Los Angeles
again by Monday or today. It's The Herd. Wherever you
may be and however you may be listening. Thanks for
making us part of your day. Yea, it never stops
ranting here. It's I don't know what it is, the
Pineapple Express. These jet streams that are usually north of
us are now down here. And so the California La
Times has a drought map. Every Thursday of the La
(00:45):
Times releases a drought map. So I get up every
Thursday morning and I go to the La Times drought map.
We're out of it. I mean it's literally we're in
the white in Los Angeles. It's white meaning there's not
it's not even outnormally dry. It's been bright red crimson
blood red for like ten years. You just said pineapple
expresses that like a weather term or yeah, because that's
(01:05):
a good movie, a comedy from the last fifteen years.
So I think it's called a pineapple express El Nino,
La Nino, whatever that stuff is. So I'm just gonna
start calling you outroker over there, a weather man. Huh.
So it's like, listen to California is the only place
I've ever lived. I root for rain. So I moved
out of the Northwest because it rained too much. But
in California, you're like, we need rain, and you cannot
(01:26):
believe what it's been like here. Like, I know none
of you have sympathy, but if all of a sudden
you were in New York and you had no winner
and it was eighty degrees every single day in the winter,
you'd be like, what it rains every day? Now, under
be careful what you wish for. So here's a story
Albert Breer. We had him on earlier. A stroke of
(01:47):
genius by the Packers in the Aaron Rodgers contract. His
fifty eight million dollar option bonus. It's kind of confusing,
can be exercised at any time of the Packers up
of September first, translation, green Bay has all the time
in the world to trade rogers. They can really put
(02:08):
the screws to the jets and Aaron, we're in no hurry.
You know what green Bay should announce. The organization's going
on a darkness retreat. We're gonna go on a darkness right,
We're gonna take We're gonna take the staff for a
couple of weeks. You put people through stuff, they want
to put you through stuff. You tease people, you'll get teased.
(02:30):
You bully people, you'll get bullied. That's a life lesson.
Be careful how you treat people. They may have leverage.
Green Bay now has all the leverage. Aaron Rodgers admitted
yesterday on YouTube that Green Bay, this is his words,
green Bay is holding this up. Green Bay is digging
their feed in because they can so. Again, when you
(02:52):
have power, be careful. I was warned about this years ago.
You're gonna have leverage at some time in your life.
Is an individual Generally companies have it, But at some
point you may have leverage. You know what I mean.
Your wife gets a great job or your husband gets
a great job, and you're like, God, I don't have
to work anymore. Be careful how you use that leverage,
because they can come back and they won't forget it.
(03:14):
So green Bay has not forgotten all the times that
they've just been sitting waiting for air and to make
a decision. And green Bay has a quarterback and the
Jets don't, so they can be incredibly patient. Mike Florio
printed this today. Packers want a first round pick, and
more so, the packers want a lot for Rogers. According
(03:36):
to Mike Florio, the packers want more than a first
round pick. Okay, now, now I'll tell you this, and
Mike wrote this, it feels personal at this point. Yeah,
of course it does. And stringing them along for years.
When you have power, be careful how you use it.
So now now the question is the question is what
(04:00):
is fair with Aaron Rodgers? So what I think is
fair if let me be the GM of the Green
Bay Packers, I get your first round pick. If you
don't think Aaron Rodgers is worth a first round pick.
According to the odds, the Jets are now over under
his ten. So he's five more wins the minute or
how many wins they get last year, seven, he's three
(04:21):
more wins. He walks in the door minimum. According to
the wise guys, I'd say that's worth a first round pick.
And the Jets don't have a top five pick. They
have a middle of the first round pick. So is
Aaron Rodgers, a first ballot Hall of Famer who two
years ago is the MVP. Is Aaron Rodgers worth a
middle of the first round pick? Hell? Yes he is.
(04:43):
Jalen Ramsey got a third, and he's coming off a
bad year and he's a corner. You tell me Aaron's
not worth a first round pick. And if I'm green Bay,
I absolutely demand that non starter that's what we're getting now.
I also believe they deserve a first round pick just
(05:03):
for this year. And since Green Bay doesn't know how
long he's gonna play, I think it's fair for green
Bay to ask for a conditional second pick in the
following draft. If Aaron comes back for a second year,
then we get another pick. Now, that one I don't think.
I'd say has to be a first round pick, maybe
(05:24):
a second or a third. But if Aaron played for
four years and all I gets a second round pick, hey, right,
that's not fair. And again, Aaron had leverage for years
and used it. Green Bay finally briefly has leverage. They
are gonna use it. I totally support the Packers here
(05:48):
is not anti Aaron, but he strung him along. I'm
gonna take a retreat. I may retire. If you have
power and use it, people when they get it are
gonna use it. And so I think it's completely fair
to ask for the Jets first round pick this year
with a conditional second pick somewhere next year. Now, whatever
(06:11):
that is, I'd want a one, but if I got
a two, I'd be okay with it. But if the
Jets are like, now, we'll give you a two, it's
Aaron Rodgers. He's literally changing the line. You're also desperate
and the Packers aren't. So there's a reason Cleveland paid
that deal to Deshaun Watson. They were desperate. Albert Breer
earlier on why Aaron really wants to keep playing. If
(06:35):
you were ninety percent out and then all of a
sudden you're back all in, well, it's the only reason
you're coming back now for revenge And like, look like
some of the questions with great with the Packers over
the last year, questions of how engaged Aaron Rodgers was right,
Like they really would have liked to have had him
there in April and May and June last year, and
(06:56):
they felt like part of the reason why Christian Watson
and Romeo Dobbs came along later in the year rather
than earlier in the year was because they hadn't had
those reps with Aaron Rodgers during OTA's and mini camps
and all that other stuff. So, like, my question is
going to be going forward, what level of engagement or
the Jets getting from Aaron Rodgers And if revenge is
(07:16):
a motivator, does that level of engagement maintain over time?
I want to talk about a college football player, Jalen Carter. Now,
one of the things the media does and I don't
like it, is the media is great at taking a
comment and criticizing a politician, a CEO, a media person.
(07:40):
They're great at that. That's easy. But what happens if
that person is right? Do you retract the opinion? Do
you come back and acknowledge that controversial opinion was right?
Now the media doesn't. The media does a lousy job
at that. All of us are great at ripping people,
but when they're right and we're wrong, we should address that.
(08:03):
That's fair. So Todd mcshaye got a lot of crap
at ESPN, a lot of crap, and I didn't know
if he was right or not, But I didn't criticize
him for it because I figured he had a source
or two or three when he said defensive tackle. Jalen
Carter at Georgia's got some character issues. The media avalanche started,
(08:24):
how dare you he's a young man? Todd was right,
Jalen Carter just came in out of shape to his
pro day. Bro, you had one job being shape, he'd
make millions. Last three weeks, he's been very right. In
three weeks, Jalen Carter got caught in a drag racing
(08:45):
incident that killed two people. He left the scene. Two
people died, he knew. I'd say that's a character red flag.
He also refused to work out at the combine. That's concerning.
He also recently, I just read this morning, got pulled
over and find a thousand dollars for another speeding incident.
Oh and yesterday at pro day he came in noticeably
(09:08):
out of shape and couldn't finish his drills. It's not
the end of the world coming in nine pounds heavy,
but that's not one red flag. That's a multitude four
or five red flags. Character issues. If you get caught
drag racing and two people die, yeah, that's a problem.
(09:28):
And if I said this earlier this week, go look
at the Pro Bowl team in the NFL this year.
Do it right now, Google it. Not a lot of
character issue, guys, Nah, it's not a lot of character issues.
So this should drop Jalen Carter in the draft. I
think he's the best player in college football, but it
now worries me. But we do this all the time
(09:50):
and I try not to do it. But I've done
it before too, so I'm to blame. We are great
at criticizing, but when we are wrong on this. I
created a segment calling right Collin wrong every Monday. Takes
about seven eight minutes. It's the most popular segment I
do every week. We got to be able to say, hey,
I whipped on this, I made a mistake. I'm wrong,
(10:11):
We're all wrong, you're wrong, I'm wrong, but we have
to admit it. We don't do that a lot. We
are great at levying criticism, are we great at looking
ourselves in the mirror? Todd McShay took a lot of
heat Todd mcshaye was right. There's been a lot of
stuff going on last three weeks. When I'm talking to
people in the NFL, which I do every night now
until the draft, this comes up. It's like, yeah, that's
(10:33):
that's probably that's probably somebody I'm not going to draft.
There you go, and he's a great player. He's a great,
great college football player. Yeah, sad story with Carter. Can
I go back to your Packers Jets theory because something
you triggered an idea? So you said that they should
ask for a conditional one next year. No, I don't know.
(10:53):
I said additional two next year, right. I said a
one this year for a Hall of Famer score. Next year,
they should ask for a conditional pick. They're probably asking
for a one that maybe a little much. I think
a two or a three is very fair. You know
what's more fair. We'll give you a two this year
and a conditional one next year. You're desperate, I'm not
(11:18):
mind what's wrong with the conditional one next year and
a two this year for sure, because that two next
year could fall and be a three, four, five if
he doesn't play a lot. If you weren't desperate, I'd listen,
you are. I'm not desperate. We see Lamar Jackson, Matt
Ryan's on the table. You gotta deal with the Rogers
fall out. It's like a nuclear bomb going off in
your town, in your front office. Good luck with that.
(11:41):
You're gonna have to clean house if you got to
pay Rodgers if he retires. I already got my replacement,
and everybody likes him. He's nice. If they like him
and he's nice, why didn't he play last year? Oh,
that's right, because Rogers was really good. Oh okay, listen,
the second round pick this year is very good. You
got a great second round pick and a conditional one,
meaning Rogers has to actually play and say healthy and
Rogers has to actually, you know, come back for year two.
(12:03):
That's not too much to ask. It's not too much
to ask, And if you had power and leverage, I
would be forced to take it. I ask for things
all the time from my bosses. Yeah, it wouldn't be
outrageous for me to ask certain things. So I agree
with you a two an app but I'm not gonna
do it. That's why it's being held up because I
(12:25):
got my guy in the building, and you got Zach Wilson.
We don't have Zach Wilson. He's not in a discussion.
There's plenty of you, by the way, marginal quarterbacks on
the market, and you got star players. Well listen can
painting for Aaron publicly and hate Zach Wilson publicly. So
I am an ownership group of a soccer teava in Mexico, Okay,
And this happens in the offseason. We've got to have
(12:45):
discussions over players. And obviously you know certain guys want
certain players and the coach's philosophy, and it is a
difficult decision. But if I am Woody Johnson and I
give up two number ones, just just forget about the franchise,
it's gonna be over. You're not two number ones for
a guy who maybe commits for a year. Colin, come on, well,
thirty nine, by the way, what was his injury last
(13:07):
year that caused him to not play so great? Didn't
you have it some thumb? Or was that last year?
Oh right, thirty nine getting up there in age. Jets
don't have a great offensive line, and then you if
you imagine worst case scenario, Rogers gets hurt. Isn't good
blah blah, blah, and the Jets are like a five
six win team. So now your next year's pick top
ten going to the Packers. Hell out of you're not
(13:30):
giving up for Aaron Rodgers is a first round pick.
I'm only asking for a conditional if he plays. If
he doesn't, I don't get anything. I lost Aaron experimented
with Jordan Love and got one pick, which, by the way,
the first round thirty percent picks. Whiff. You get a guarantee.
I get a potentially good hire. You get a guarantee. Listen, Jets,
(13:53):
better hold firm. I think my offer a second this year?
How about this? How about this, I'll raise the stakes
a second and a fourth and a conditional one next year.
Say no to that. A second and a third and
a conditional number one guy second and Zach Wilson And
(14:16):
that's interesting. A second and a third this year? Come on,
pick in the first hundred. No, we got holes on
this team. Good luck was Zachi. Be sure to catch
live editions of The Herd Weekdays and Noon Easter nine
a Empacific Leroy Butler twelve years with a Packers Pro
Football Hall of Famer. He's a favorite on this show
(14:39):
because he's really got a sense of what people are
talking about packer fans. So I love to bring him
on a half dozen times a year. He's also got
a vodka, Number one vodka in Wisconsin, Leap Vodka, Leap
into Lambeau. That's amazing, So good for you. Okay, I
want to start with this. On your afternoon radio show yesterday,
it's announced want to be a Jet? What is the
(15:01):
reaction by the average fan to Aaron moving on? What
are they saying? Colin? This is what they're saying in
the barbershop as well, because you know what, that's where
you get defects and there's no filter out of everything
that Aaron said. The one thing they picked up on
was ninety retirement ten percent jets. What percentage is packers? Right?
(15:31):
What you were here for eighteen years, longer than anybody
and you went into the darkness was zero point zero
percent packers. I applaud the packers for standing up saying
they want to make a change, so the people are
just tired of it. But that's what they picked up on,
was that percentage. Yeah, the thing that bothered me, as
(15:54):
he said, he was surprised when he came out of
the Darkness Retreat that Green Bay had said, Hey, we're
moving on, And I said, if I strung somebody along
Fox Sports for eight nine weeks on my plans, and
then I said, I'm gonna go in a retreat and
I'll come back and maybe give you an answer, I
wouldn't be shocked if I came out of the retreat
(16:14):
and Fox said hit the road bal like. It's almost
like nobody in Aaron's personal life is an honesty meter,
like I mean to me, Aaron acted like he was
surprised they moved off him. Were you surprised? Not at all?
A matter of fact, Colin, I was wondering when the
team was gonna push back a little bit. But you
(16:37):
gotta understand they paid Aaron the three year, one hundred
and fifty guarantee so you don't have to go through this.
So you're sitting there waiting, And then he went to
play golf in congratulations. He actually won the pro am
and he's having fun with fans want me to go
to the Raiders, not minting it the pack sooner or later.
(17:02):
The fans are like, we need to hear from Guda Cuts,
which Guda Cuts said, everything is on the table. Then
the fans are like, no, we need to hear from Murphy.
Then they hear it from Murphy the president. Now the
next day they're waiting for it, Colin, They're waiting for
Matt la Florid to step up to a podium, iPhone
or wherever, and said, Jordan's Love is my starting quarterback
(17:24):
betweenty twenty three. At that point, we don't care what
Aaron does. He go to the Jets or come back,
but joy Love is the starter. So it's being held up.
Aaron Rodgers said yesterday on YouTube that it's being held
up by the packers. They're digging their feed in So
I'm sure, and I'm not taking him. I'm not in
(17:45):
any way insinuating he's lying. Okay, So the Packers, according
to Aaron, are digging their feed Hi. I'm gonna take
him at his word. So that probably means compensation. So
I think it's very fair Leroy to ask for a
first round pick this year. Aaron's a great player and
he's gonna come out. He's not gonna be injured as much,
so he probably play it very well. I would ask
(18:07):
for if Aaron plays a second year, I would ask
for another really good pick doesn't have to be a first,
but it has to be a really good pick. Is
that in your opinion? Is it fair to ask for
a first this year and then compensation one more pick
if Aaron plays a second. Do you think it's as
simple as that? Absolutely? Absolutely. When you find a team
(18:30):
this desperate to get the owners to fly three thousand
mile but reach people go ever they want, I get
that to go with a convince him and he stillesn't
give you an answer. And he's done this to the
Packers a couple of years, okay, and they says, history
repeats itself. Of course I'm gonna ask. I'm ask for
the moon because you're so desperate. But Colin, I have
(18:54):
a suggest they can flip flop picks. The Packers will
win the thirteenth. The Debts would get fifteen. But I
must have Elijah more or Dens their mims. And I
want to tight end CJ as well as for player
then picks, because that's the day you gotta pay him.
Sick to me, and any ways, on the books, I'm
(19:14):
glad they're digging the heels in. Somebody had in that
building had to do some pushback. So I think for
the most part it's about Jordan Love. Anyway you can
help him out of this trade will help the team. Yeah,
if you could give me Elijah More on the tight
end and I just get that those are two starters,
those guys are both, that'd be great that I don't
(19:35):
need draft picks. Um, let me ask you this. We
don't get footage of Jordan's Love. How if I said
to you, I don't. Here's my theory, Leroy, that he's
not mahomes borrow Josh Allen. If he was, they wouldn't
have right. They wouldn't They wouldn't have signed Aaron to
an extension if they thought he was that. But he's
(19:55):
not Zach Wilson, or they wouldn't be moving off Aaron.
So he's somewhere, you know, somewhere C plus to a minus.
With how much certainty do you believe with your sources
that he is going to be at least a Kirk
Cousins level guy, Great question, calling look at the system.
(20:19):
The system is Sean McVeigh with Jared Golf, Super Bowl,
Kyle Shanahan, Brock Purty, and anybody else that wants to
be a quarterback super Bowl. He can be that. He
could be Daniel Jones, he could be Taylor Heineke. I mean,
(20:41):
I'm naming all the quarterbacks that beat the Packers. By
the way, any of those guys to run the system now,
Matt la Floor can sleep at night calling with no anxiety.
He can run his stuff without somebody changing it. So
I think, not only will he be a good because
he got two running backs and a good offensive line,
David restructing him, he'll be back, yeah, and love will
(21:03):
be better than people think. Finally, so when you go
on your calls today for our radio audience, Leroy Butler
sitting in a nice Packer room, he's a Hall of Famer.
When you go on today, or at least fifty percent
of your callers glad he's leaving. What's what's the what's
the divide line? What's the percentage is on? I'm done
(21:24):
with Aaron And I think we're making a big mistake
on your show because you're talking to real Packer fans
and they don't have a filter. They're gonna tell you, Leroy,
they like you're gonna tell exactly how they feel. Most anonymously,
we don't know who's calling shows, what percentage are see later, pal,
and what percentage are we're making a big mistake. I
(21:46):
think two things can be true. You can love Aaron
Rodgers because you could be sick and tired. You could
be either sick or tired of something. You're fine with it.
But if you're both, you're done with it. I actually
live here as well, so it's a different community. When
you go places, people come up to you ask. I
would say eighty percent of the people that I see,
(22:07):
and I'm in a community more than anybody any Hall
of Famer locally, they're done. They're ready to see number ten.
His jersey sales is going up. I mean they want
to see Jodan lovecause. Really, the thing about it, real
quick calling, it's the ninety percent. I'm retired, the tempacent,
I'm going to the Jets. And then when he said
(22:30):
I intend to play for the Jets, they were out.
We're done. We're done with it. By his vodka, it's
called leap vodka. I've never had it. You can send
a bottle to me. Whyn't you send a ball to me.
I'll partake in your business venture. I'm gonna hook you up.
You know you're my guy. I got you. I know
you already sent me an autographed jersey, So good, senior man,
(22:51):
and you didn't say it. Yeah, so that's good. So
in that thanks, Isn't it interesting how it landed for
Green Bay? They heard ninety percent retire ten percent jets,
That's what they heard from McAfee. What I heard was,
I'm surprised they moved off me, which I'm just incredulous about.
How in God's name could you be surprised? You've left
them hanging for years? So it's funny. This is why
(23:14):
boxing has three judges, same fight, three judges, different angle.
In Green Bay, they heard ninety percent retirement, ten percent jets.
You don't love us. I've never doubted Aaron loved green Bay,
he said to McAfee. He loved Green Bay. What I
heard was, I was kind of surprised they moved off me.
The hell, you're the one that keeps telling us the
(23:34):
Jordan loves fantastic and you watched him every day in practice.
Don't the packers deserve some scorn for not realize Aaron
Rodgers has been telling you who he is the last
couple off seasons. So now he pulls this stunt and
you're shocked and surprised. I think my packers deserve a
little bit of Hey, guys, what do you expect to
happen with this guy? It's funny when people are surprised.
People have different opinions on a moment. So Packer fans
(23:58):
heard ninety percent ten percent I heard. I'm surprised. What
was if? I said in a sentence, what was your
takeaway on all of his talk yesterday? Yeah? All of
it was on brand for Aaron Rodgers. You know this
is not going to be a decision day. My intention
is to play for the Jets, you know, smearing reporters.
This is exactly who he is. You know, I personally
did I love when aj Hawk pushed back a little bit.
(24:18):
I saw a clip online a j Hawk pushed back
a little bit on Rodgers, and then the host, the
former punter, kind of swung it like I've got to
protect Rodgers. Did say, Yeah, I know, I don't really
want to get into it because then I'm not trying
to make anyone look bad. But basically, you know, Rogers
selects who he talks to because they're gonna give him
free range to be Aaron, and I gotta push back
and challenge him. Um, I think one of the reasons
(24:38):
our dynamic works is I pushed back and challenge you. Well,
Aaron said yesterday, I just want total transparency. Time out,
time out, time out. Aaron, I know two packer teammates
of yours, offensive guys who have no idea what you're
doing because there's no transparency. You keep everything private. Don't
demand something when you don't give something. That'd be like asking, hey, honey,
(24:59):
you got to be loyal to me and I'm out
flirting around. Don't ask for something in life if you
don't expect to deliver that something. Don't tell me you
want transparency. You're like this mythical lockness monster in the
NFL that nobody knows ever what you're thinking. So don't
give me that nonsense. That's the stuff that bothers me.
And we all know we're all hypocrites to some degree.
But that would be like you know, I have always said,
(25:23):
even in my negotiations with ESPN, if you don't like me,
tell me, because if I don't like you, I'll tell you.
So I'm very confrontational as a person. If I'm pissed
off at a boss, I'll go right to them and
confront them in a hallway blah blah blah. Then do
the same for me, because I'm going to do that
to you. So don't be wishy washy. If you're mad
at me, come to me and yell at me. I
can take it. But don't you think Sometimes people will
(25:44):
say what they want and provide lip service, but their
actions say completely as otherwise. That's what That's what we're
talking about here, and you know we've all bumped into that.
That's not fun, all right. J Mack with the news, No, no,
turn on the news is the herd line news. Let's
pivot off. Aaron Rodgers go to DJ Moore, one of
(26:04):
the Bears, after that big trade for the number one
pick U. DJ Moore very excited about the move. Uh,
you know, and without question, Justin Fields is finally getting
a number one receiver. You like Mooney, we like Playpool. No, no, no,
he more clearly better. He is a big vertical player.
Here's what he had to say. It's gonna be real special.
(26:25):
I'm glad to be part of the groundwork that's being
laid and to just build that foundation of winning. It's
gonna be something special. Now, we said you and I
said last year we thought the Niners not the best team,
but the most interesting team. Can we say now this morning,
Chicago is going to be one of the more interesting
teams in the league, one of them that not the
But I had a buddy in Vegas text me, what
do you think I'm going to Vegas for the Should
(26:48):
I put what's money on fields? No? Justin fields to
win the MVZY settled. Now, listen, Jalen Hurts though nearly
one of the v last year going from no got whatsoever.
But that roster was stacked, and he had an offensive coach.
That matters. The offensive coach thing matters. Nick Sirianni deserves.
I didn't think it worked. Nick Sirianni has been great. Yeah,
(27:11):
so we got a defensive coach in Chicago. What's the
overrun the bear? Unfortunately, do not have it yet. Get
not done. Let's see what happens in the drafty seven
it's high six and a half. Oh, I'm betting the
over they're gonna win. I think you're right. I'm tired.
I'm sorry. Let me see if Aaron Rodgers leads the
division and Jordan Love is the quarterback, I would say
(27:32):
seven I honestly think that's a bigger swing than many
people think, like, yea, yeah, it's a big downs. Seven
wins for the Bears over under. They're they're putting some
money on these players. They got real players now, but
they're they're still they missed out on McGlinchey at right tackles.
How's this? There's no value there for me, so I
would pass. But I think that's I think that's a
fair line. Okay from the book, right seven, has Duke
(27:56):
won the tournament yet? Just checking out they have not started?
Um Okay, next episode, Cincinnati Bengals had a lot of
offensive line issues with Joe Burrow. But I don't know
if you saw this Orlando Brown big steal from the Chiefs.
Essentially they were coming rivals, the Bengals and Chiefs in
the AFC. Orlando Brown four years, sixty four million dollars,
(28:17):
including a thirty one million dollars signing bonus. Steelers and
Jets were allegedly in the mix for Brown. Jets. Obviously
he's a left tack player. I don't know if he's
a great player. He's a good player. He's a good player.
There's been issues with his weight fluctuating, and you know
he was in a contract year and had a great year.
You know sometimes that could be fools gold. The Bengals
offered the most guaranteed money and he took it. Remember
(28:37):
they fixed the offensive line and since last year it helped.
Now you're upgrading it even more. I feel like nobody's
really talking about the Bengals. You're gonna overpay as the
Cincinnati Bengals. I'm okay, you overpaying for your old line Well,
Burrows on the rookie co pay for linebacker? They let
Jesse Bates? Are they let Von Bell go and Jesse
(28:57):
baits somebody? They they saved money on safety. I wouldn't.
I don't Seahawks pay their safeties too. Muche So Cincinnati said,
we're moving off safety contracts. Backup running back, gone, we're
gonna pay. We're gonna pay a price to protect our
number one asset. I totally defend that mode. If you
really think about what happened to the Bengals in that
(29:19):
loss to the Chiefs, what do you pin that loss on?
I would say the offensive ineptitude. They could not move
the football in Kansas City, They couldn't get it done
in the fourth quarter, right, Chris Jones, good pass rush
Chris Chris Jones annihilated them. Actually, that's a great call
because on one of the seminal plays there late in
the game, they moved Chris Jones outside, the Bengals weren't
ready and he bull rushed and got it Burrow. So yeah,
(29:40):
I mean Orlando Brown, that's a big addition there. They
had an injury right late in the season. I mean,
they're places you do not want to overspend safety, linebacker,
tight end, and there are certain places quarterback, oh, line weapons.
Sometimes you have to own spend And I'm in twenty
twenty three, that's what the league is. Edge rusher like
(30:02):
when the basically the charger said Khalil Mackinbosa, you can
mock it, but if you're gonna overspend on defense, overspend
on edge rusher like, it's the right position to overspend on.
Final stories is not a good one. So the World
Baseball Classic last night, Michael Trout led Team USA big
night in the win over Columbia. With the win, the
US finishes the runner up to Mexico and Group C. However,
(30:24):
there was a big injury to a Mets closer. He
just signed for about one hundred million dollars. They're celebrating
the win on the mound. He steps wrong in the celebration.
Patel attendant torn Um, a reporter is claiming he's gonna
be out for this season. That is a devastating loss
rating victory. Okay, but let me ask you this. It
(30:47):
could have happened at spring training. Yes, so I just
I don't want to blame. Let me. Let me defend
the World Baseball Classics because I did this at the ESPN.
I defended it there. So little league Baseball's fun, College
Baseball's fun, World Baseball Classics fun. I grew up with
Reggie Jackson, Pete Rose, Mark Fendrich, Al Roboski, Mickey Rivers. Fun, fun,
(31:09):
big personality guys, where where baseball sometimes isn't fun. When
you have these stoic there's a way to play the game.
So I like baseball that celebrates litterally, college, World Baseball,
and baseball. In the seventies and eighties, baseball's moved into this.
There's a way to play the game. And by the way,
the commissioner has over the last several years, they've had
(31:32):
a marketing campaign, let's enjoy this stuff, so I'm going
to defend this. I don't think the World Baseball Classic
is necessary, but I think it's absolutely fun and baseball
needs more fun. And this could have happened at spring
training or anytime during the year, so I just let's
not in the end injuries happen. I mean, the NBA's
(31:52):
got an eight I mean the NBA's got eighty two games,
then they have eight preseason games. I think the NFL
preseason I would never play a star teams didn't four
times a year. So it is what it is. Yeah,
J Mack with the news. Well that's the news, and
thanks for stopping by The Herdline News. And by the way,
are the maps cursed? Of course they are because they're
(32:14):
the Mets. Be sure to catch live editions of The

your appropriate old go it again. Rogers and the Jets
(33:20):
will reach the AFC Championship. Cell they have the worst
record in the AFC over the last five seasons. They're
not getting to the AFC Championship twenty five and forty eight.
All right, we briefly touched on this yesterday. Rogers and
the Jets will make the playoffs. I'm gonna go sell um.
(33:45):
The Jets are five and twenty five in their division
over the last five seasons, so they don't have the
roster of Miami or Buffalo, nor do they have the
coach of New England. So they have struggled mightily. They
have as bad an indivision record is anybody in football
over the last half decade. Five and twenty five. Rogers
will play more than one year with the Jets whole.
(34:09):
He did say he was ninety percent retiring before the retreat,
so I think if he has one year, it's okay,
even if it's a good year. He was already he
was through the doorway. He just hadn't locked the door yet.
And I should remind Jets fans five came back, was good,
got hurt left for the Vikings, and they made the
(34:31):
NFC Championship games. So there's a chance there's a two
year window next up. Rogers has a better chance to
win the MVP with the Jets than the Packers. Well
that's a cell because the AFC's got so many great quarterbacks.
I mean, Peyton Manning is the only player to do
with the two different franchises, Mahomes, Burrow, Alan if Lamar
signs Trevor Lawrence. So that's that's not it's not a
(34:55):
knock on him. I mean, Russell Wilson with Peyton's going
to have better numbers now justin Herbert has Alan more.
I mean just they're just too many great players. I
think even if he had a really good year, there's
just too many great quarterbacks right the Jet will be
Aaron Rodgers' final team he plays with before retiring. I'm
gonna say bye because he said he was ninety percent
into retiring, and I don't think he's a bounce around guy.
(35:16):
I could see it being a one and done. I'd
probably say greater than fifty percent chance being a one
and done, but I don't see Aaron. Maybe if a
West Coast team handed in like the Rams, a really
good situation, but this feels like Jets and then back
to golfing and hanging out all right. Alan Lazard will
lead the Jets in receiving touchdown six foot five red
zone target. I'm gonna say whole because last year he
(35:40):
had an abnormally good year. He'd never had more than
eight receiving touchdowns in a single season, so Lazard had
his best year because why because the Packers had rookie
wide receivers and Davante Adams left, so they really needed
and targeted him a lot. I don't think he's gonna
get targeted. They got a good tight end and too
good young receivers and they probably draft another receiver, so
(36:04):
I think last year he got a lot of looks
he won't get in New York. Right, take your time
on this one. The Jets will have a better record
than the Packers. Jordan Love at quarterback for the Packers, obviously,
Aaron Rodgers with the Jets. I told Ryan during the break,
I think both are going to end up nine and eight,
So hold their schedules. Tough Jet schedules. Tough. AFC East
(36:30):
is arguably a tougher division. AFC Conference is tougher. So
if you're asking me, will the Jets be better than
the Packers, my answer is yes, But will they have
a better record than the Packers? I would say no.
All right, this feels a little This is a little much.
Jordan's Love will be a top five quarterback in the
NFC in his first year as a starter. Sell So,
(36:53):
I mean, come on, we don't even know he has
one career start, and he, by the way, he struggled
his last year at Utah State. So I think I
think I'm trusting the Packers brain trust. I think he's
gonna be fine. Okay, we know you and I know
he's not Mahomes or Borrow because they wouldn't have signed
Aaron to an extension if they saw that at practice.
(37:14):
We also know He's not Zac Wilson, or they wouldn't
move off him. So he is somewhere between pretty good
okay and not okay enough. I mean he's somewhere in
that mix. Jordan Love and the Packers. When the NFC north,
He's gonna be better next year we would have been,
I'd say hold on that. I think the Lions are
gonna be better. I think the Bears are absolutely gonna
(37:37):
be better. Minnesota's probably gonna be a little worse. Christian Watson,
for the record, should be better. Well, they're gonna be.
They're gonna have more web. Romeo Dobbs is going to
be more productive. Going from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love,
I don't know. I watched I watched Jordan Plaic this
(37:57):
year and that one start Christian wat and then to touchdown,
didn't he I don't I don't remember that. Aaron Rodgers
dropping guying balls in buckets forty yards down the field
for Watson, I don't know Loves doing that. Finally, Jordan's
Love will have a better year than Aaron Rodgers. Celle.
I think Aaron's gonna play with a chip on his shoulder,
be mad, And I think the Jets. Remember, the Jets
(38:19):
O line is not a catastrophe like the Giants. They
had three different players hurt. So the Jets O line
there's some players like Austin Barry Tucker, there's some I
really like him a lot, but they had guys banged up,
So the Jets O line is not in a total rebuild.
I think they should address it again. We just saw
they went after Orlando Brown. But the Jets old line,
(38:40):
if it's healthy, will be a middle of the pack
O line. The Giants old line last year was bottom
of the league. So and then in the Packers. By
the way, Jordan loves gonna have a better ole line
than Aaron Rodgers. But Aaron Rodgers a lot better than Jordan.
We've seen some of these tackles come out of the
draft and instantly have an impact. Rested works very very
good out of the gate. So maybe if the Jets
keep their first round pick, they get alignement Yeah, and
(39:02):
plug in play and the average. Yeah. If you look
at where the Jets are drafting, there's several guys. I
think the Georgia tackle I've targeted as an Ohio state
and Georgia have offensive tackles Northwestern does. So the Jets
do not want to give up that number one pick.
So let me ask you. So, they don't want to
give up the number one pick because they want an
offensive lineman. That's their number one thing, that's a pass rusher.
(39:24):
Like now, listen, hold on Jalen Carter. You talked about it.
They don't need a defensive lineman. That's not there is
Robert Sali's DNA. He wants defensive lineman. I wouldn't do it.
But if Jalen Carter falls down, he's not going to
not that far. You just said he's fallen earlier, but
he's not fallen to fifteen. I'm talking falling nine ten.
So my takeaway what the Jets. The reason the Jets
(39:46):
don't want to give up first round pick is they
want to tackle. And that's very reasonable. Uh, you know,
Green Bay would love another first They're going to get
the best tight end or the first or second best
wide receiver. So if I was the Jets and said,
we're not giving you the first round pick, that's off
the table because we need to tackle for Aaron Rodgers,
(40:07):
then let me ask you, is it fair for the
Packers to say I want two seconds guaranteed, and one
of your receivers get out of it, close the door,
hang up the phone, lose my nuse, lose my number,
and lose my number. Two's end a receiver. Okay, so
I get two two's guaranteed. Though, for Aaron Rodgers, I
(40:28):
think any any second pick after the first pick, after
the second pick, second round pick, that next pick has
to be conditional one one second round pick for Aaron
the conditional if Rogers plays all the snaps and uh
he comes back for another year. Yeah, you get it first.
I'll give that up. Okay, so you do a second
this year, in the first next year, a conditional first
next year, because listen, get any players. What's that? How
(40:51):
about your second best corner? You already have the lead.
Give up? No, you're not getting another starter. Seems greedy.
Did Duke win the tournament? Yeah? No, there was. There
is an update. Do you want it? Give me? This happened.
Virginia was leading Furman by five with like fifteen seconds
left and lost upset Furman. Yeah, I gave out Furman
(41:14):
for Fox sports dot Com a huge win h three
point like three seconds left. Furman gets the dub. Virginia listen.
I don't want to go on up college basketball rent,
but their their offense is just unwatchable, Like that's why
they can't get time. Furman was one of my three
upset picks. Then it's a great coach, but they're very limited.
Let's will open a cold one.
