Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
All sorts of stuff to talk about. Eric Mangini, former
coach of the Jets, Jets and the Steelers, is fascinating.
Aaron Rodgers actually in his last three healthy season openers
is not only zero for three, but he completes about
sixty one percent of his throws. He's lost all three
by ten plus points. Is that off field, you know,
lack of commitment.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
He has moved around to different teams, so some of
it's just probably going to be that. But Eric Mangini
is now joining us live.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
It is interesting.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
I mean, Pittsburgh's got a new quarterback, in new left tackle,
a new top running back, a new wide receiver, and
Eric Aaron's always been an interesting guy and where you know,
he's a smart guy, so you think, you know, he
doesn't mind learning new stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
But Aaron.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Also, you know, can't teach an old dog new tricks.
He likes what he likes. And I look at aaron
struggles in season openers and I think the Jets actually
have some very interesting personnel defensively. What do you think
Aaron Rodgers Steelers season opener looks like against his former.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Team, Well, it should be really good. He actually has
more experience at MetLife than he does playing in Pittsburgh,
so he should be very comfortable there. The last time
he played there against the Dolphins at the end of
last season, he threw four touchdowns and one pick and
had one of his best games as a Jet. The
other thing is he actually has a better understanding of

(01:48):
Jets defensive personnel than anybody on the Steelers. He spent
all that time with him, so he's got the understanding
of the personnel. He's comfortable playing in the stadium. His
last game there was pretty good. He's got the most
tenured head coach and an organization that has, you know,
absolute function as opposed to dysfunction. Against a rookie head coach,

(02:11):
it should, it should line up as well as it
could line up for him in an opener.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Now, I know, as a coach. You know, you could
say there's no good losses. But I came out of
the Dallas loss last night. I mean, Schottenheimer was buttoned up.
They had very few penalties, their clock management end of
the first half was strong, more yards per play, Dak moved.
I worried about Dak's movement. I thought he moved very well.

(02:37):
I came out of that game, and if you'd never
seen those two teams play, your takeaway was Dallas matches up.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Well, what did you make of it?

Speaker 4 (02:45):
Yeah, So remember when we talked when Brian got the job,
and I said, I felt that Brian Schottenheimer was as
deserving as any of these other guys who were getting
their first time opportunity. And you saw that last night.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
He was.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
He was very pois is very comfortable. You're playing the
defending Super Bowl champions the night that they open or
they dropped the banner, and the opening of the NFL
season on the road.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
It is a night game.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
You have the weather delay, you've got a quarterback that's
coming back from an injury. You've got to call the
game as well. They've just traded away arguably your best
defensive player, or you're one of your best players. So
you've got all that turmoil and then they come out
and you look at these two teams and you think
that Brian had been coaching for a long time. I thought,

(03:33):
I thought the operation at the end of the first
half was a really good indicator of how discipline this
team is. And then take a look at what they
did about saqua and Jerry talked about stopping them run.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Saquon Barkley averaged three point three yards of carry.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
That's his second lowest average in the last year. The
only time he was held to a lower average was
against Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Last year in October.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
I think it was like October fourteenth, where he averaged
two point four yards a carry. So they talked about
stopping the run. They held Sakuon Barkley to his second
lowest average. That's that's impressive in itself, and you got
to give Matt Eberflus a lot of credit for that
as well. And think of the opportunities they had to
win the game. So we talked about the CD lamb drops.
There's multiple there's three huge ones. What about Miles Sanders fumble, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
That's huge.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
What about George Pickens' penalty on the eleven yards.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
That's huge.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
So that you've got you've got these gigantic plays that
that change the nature of the game. But if I'm
a Dallas Cowboys fan, I'm really excited this this. If
they can play like this, they're gonna be in the
mix for the playoffs with without a doubt, they should
be in the mix. And you got to give Dak

(04:47):
a ton of credit. He looked he looked like a
guy that deserves sixty million dollars. He looked like a
legitimate franchise quarterback leader. And and you you have to
wake up in Dallas so much more excited about the
season than he did prior.

Speaker 5 (05:07):
To the game.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
I'm glad you mentioned the Pickens penalty because that forced
him back. They could have scored on the next play
if if that doesn't happen, they had momentum. It was
a really bad penalty. AJ Brown one target. And I
you know, I've you and I have joked about this before,
probably off air. I think certain things in life are luxuries,

(05:28):
like a watch, A great watch.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
I got my phone.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
A nice watch is a luxury you can afford it
by I tend to think wide receivers, you know, are
a little bit more of a luxury than a necessity
with a team of the great run game. When you
target him one time, Eric, that's something, isn't it something?

Speaker 4 (05:47):
Well, here's here's where I give the Philadelphia Eagles a
lot of credit. And now here's why I give Jalen
Hurts a lot of credit. He's noisy, and he's gonna
make noisy this season. He was noisy last season with
the book on thee and everybody dressed that up as oh,
this is something that he doesn't know was And it
was a very clear message last season that he was

(06:07):
unhappy with the amount of targets he was getting and
that's going to happen again this season. But I give
them credit for staying true to what they said. We're
not going to change our identity to accommodate any one individual.
And I can tell you it is so much better
to win boring than to lose an exciting game.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
It is so much better.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
And this is a formula that made Philadelphia so successful
last season and will continue to make him successful. Will
that make AJ Brown happy?

Speaker 6 (06:35):
No?

Speaker 4 (06:36):
But this isn't a one man band and it's not
the AJ Brown Show, and there's going to be a
lot of opportunities for him to be the hero now,
whether or not he can be patient enough for those opportunities,
I don't know. What would you want to get him
more in the mix? Yes, and I think you can
do a good job at the beginning of the game

(06:56):
to script a few plays to get the ball in
his hands, to maybe take some of the age off
the rest of the game. If this is the way
you're gonna play.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
It, be sure to catch live editions of The Herd
weekdays and noon Eastern non a em Pacific.

Speaker 6 (07:08):
Hey, it's Ben, host of The Fifth Hour with Ben
Maller with me and a lot to have you join

God's name is the Fifth Hour. I'll tell you it's
a spin off of it Ben Mathers Show, a cult
hit overnights on FSR.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Why should you listen?

Speaker 6 (07:24):
Picture if you will a world will? We chat with
captains of industry in media, sports, and more every week

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Listen to the Fifth Hour with.

Speaker 6 (07:34):
Ben Maller on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast or wherever
you get your podcasts.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
All right, I want to talk about two coaches.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
You know, first, Jim Harbaugh has been very good in
season openers. They've got Rashaan Slater out for the year.
Becton has some sort of flu bug. He may not play.
They move Joe all Right tackle to left tackle. I'm like, oh,
my lord, your take on playing in Brazil as a
coaching staff, Your thoughts on Harbaugh now trying to not

(08:00):
golf Kansas City in that division? Where are you with
the Chargers and Harball?

Speaker 4 (08:05):
Well, I actually looked it up. So Jim as the
second best opening day record of any coach in NFL history.
I think the other guy, I can't remember if it's
Potsi Clark, it was from like nineteen thirty one, the
Portsmouth Spartans and also the Detroit Lions. He's second to him.
So he's very good in these games. I think the

(08:26):
fact that they're playing in Brazil that won't bother Jim
at all. He's great at embracing those things. So if
you're going to the East coach, he's greated embracing that.
If you're going to Brazil, he's graded embracing that. Where
sometimes that can be a distraction. Guys can be frustrated
by it, where he'll celebrate that and look at this
incredible opportunity we have, and it gets to be very contagious.

(08:51):
The first game of the season is so hard to
predict because all the things that have gone on in
training camp that nobody's seen. But I would say I
expect this could easily be an upset if you consider
an upset by the Chargers in this game. And I'm
excited to see the way that they run the football

(09:12):
because I really like the young back Marion Hampton.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
I think he's going to be excellent.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Finally, Bill Belichick's story that he will not let Patriot
scouts into UNC practice, I don't know what do you
make of that?

Speaker 3 (09:26):
Why? Like, why do it?

Speaker 2 (09:28):
So?

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Now I'm a parent and I sent my son to UNC,
and there is a talk about how this is the
thirty third team, you know, the thirty third NFL team,
and it's going to be run like an NFL program
and that'll help your son get to the NFL. Well,
part of that is getting your son seen by scouts.
So to have this level of pettiness, what you're frustrated

(09:50):
that you got fired by the Patriots, Guess what everybody
gets fired at some point, you know, except for a
few guys here and there, and then you could have
retired if you wanted to, you decided not to, you
got fired. That's we all sign up for that when
you take the job. So you're gonna be mad about that.
I think that there's so many more problems there from

(10:11):
a playing perspective based off of how they played in
their opener, to focus on then to focus on whether
or not you allow scouts and and I don't think
people are going to suffer that type of pettiness very well,
especially if you're losing.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Yeah, he'll be on first things first, after us, he'll
try to corral nixt site who's not I'm sure today
is the Chiefs open up.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
He'll need some coaching. I'll just leave it at that.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
Good luck with that, all right, I think, thank you, Colin,
have a great weekend.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
All right.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Eric Mangini Jmack with the news.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
This is the herd Line News.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
All right, Colin, let's start with Rock Birdy.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
You.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
We love a good Brock Purdy discussion, specifically his place
among the.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
NFL's top quarterbacks.

Speaker 5 (11:05):
Purdy obviously got paid this offseason, and John Lynch believes
that the doubt in the media. No, he didn't mention you,
but he believes the doubt in the media fuels brock Perty.

Speaker 7 (11:16):
We've got a ton of belief in him, and he's
earned that belief. You know, everyone knows his story, last
player chosen in the draft, and he's just chipped away
and kind of taken down every barrier in his way.
And you know, he continues to do that on the field,
and I think brock kind of gets a thrill out
of when people doubt him.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
Yeah, see, he can handle it. I appreciate that I've
come around. He's a good B plus quarterback. Is excuse me,
Dak Prescott's good B plus quarterback. Brock Perty's a good
B plus quarterback. Kirk Cousins is a good B plus quarterback.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
It's lonesome clarity there, Okay, listen.

Speaker 5 (11:52):
Probably the most interesting practice support today will be Christian McCaffrey,
because if he's not there, brock Purty has a very
tall order going in to see and keeping his perfect
record in tech What is it three and oh at
lumin Fields, not eight to o, not eleven and all.
He's only played there three times, but they have yet.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
To beat there, Geno Smith. Now we're gonna be.

Speaker 5 (12:14):
We're gonna be talking about this game shortly. Uh in
my picks, I got some interesting numbers for you, But
I'm just telling you I'm refreshing.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
Forty nine ers.

Speaker 5 (12:23):
Beat reporters because today is where guys are practicing. Like
the Saints just ruled somebody out. We'll talk about that shortly.
Did you notice I stayed away from that game. I
wanted to take Arizona. I think you're onto somethings. You
love to miss layups. You're like me, I don't I
pass on layups because I.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Want to shoot threes. You missed a layup with Arizona
and the Saints. We'll talk about it later, all right.
Next up here is the uh oh. The New York
Giants call it.

Speaker 5 (12:47):
Jackson dart had a hell of a good preseason, so
good that there is some chatter that maybe you'll get
to play sooner than later.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Well.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
According to Ian Rappaport, New York.

Speaker 5 (12:58):
Believes that even though dart Is isn't the starter, he's
prepared to take over and Bill be ready whenever necessary.
Adding everything they wanted to see from him in the
preseason they saw now Dart. It shocked the world. Remember
draft night, he was taking ahead of Chador and it
was like, what.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
I didn't love to pick.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
I thought they reached a little well everything from dayble.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
They loved this guy.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
You know, I lost a steak dinner to a GM
on that you bet the CHADU No, no, no, I said,
I said, Jackson Dart is is is. Kyle McCord is
the name. He's already been cut almccord. He's gonna he's whatever.
Laying your card tonight, listen. I don't know about Dart.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
We'll see.

Speaker 5 (13:41):
I didn't see the competition. He was playing in the
lane kidding.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
I will say this, he looks very comfort comfortable, and
that's that's worth. I know what's preseason, Well, he's going
againstvanilla defense. Is well, he's throwing the fourth stringers. It
works both ways. He looked very, very comfortable.

Speaker 5 (13:57):
So the big difference between him and Shador that I
saw he's sitting in the pocket processing and reacting.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
He's not running for his life trying to make plays.

Speaker 5 (14:04):
That ain't the way to go Dart. He did deliver
in the preseason. These highlights make him look like a
starter man.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
We'll see you. I think he plays a lot this season.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
They were bad at quarterback last year, so at Abdull Carter, the.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Schedule is just impossible, or they would be talking about wins.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
I'm looking, are they competitive because I still think they
have the right coach.

Speaker 5 (14:24):
Well, if they're not competitive, Dable is going to get fired. Yeah,
if they're competitive, he sticks around. Final story, Colins contrast
Jackson Dart with this Anthony Richardson. Now this is just
a report, Okay. Anthony richardson agent recently met with GM
Chris Ballard and broached the idea of a possible trade. Aka,

(14:46):
hey man, you all like Daniel Jones, get my guy
out of here. I don't know what Anthony Richardson's value
would be on the open market, Like you're taking a
flyer on him.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
What are you giving up?

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Friends? And I don't think he's a franchise quarterback. I
think he should give up a fifth round pick for him.
He's a backup. If I had two fifths, i'd give
up one. Otherwise I'd give up a six.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
This guy went top five, I think top five in
the draft.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
I don't recently I would give up I would give
up a six round pick.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
And Chris Ballard wants to again. If I have multiple.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Six and sevens, would I give up a six and
a seven as a backup. He's a nice kid. He's
got a great, big body, big frame. He's worth something.

Speaker 5 (15:24):
You don't think it's still tbd on Anthony. But we
haven't seen enough. How can we know that he's a backup?
He's so young.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
I'll just say this, Jerry Jones made a bad deal
for Trey Lance. Remember that trade?

Speaker 1 (15:35):
Yep?

Speaker 5 (15:36):
Why wouldn't you if you're the coach, called Jerry and
be like, hey, Jerry, well, we got big, strapping Anthony
Richardson here for you.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
He could throw the ball out of the stadium where
I watched DAK last night. I may sign him to
an extension.

Speaker 5 (15:47):
Oh wait, who's got Joe Milton? Do the Cowboys have
Joe Milton?

Speaker 3 (15:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (15:50):
Oh never mind, they already would guy with a cat
in arm. But I don't know. I think if if
I'm a smart coach, I would just take a flyer
on Anthony rich.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
Picks or you know, I don't even know what the
odds are, thirty percent they make the league.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
I would if I didn't have if like like Miami
for the last several years, to a battle line, no backup.
I mean he's certainly capable. I mean, if nothing else,
if you had like Jared Goff and you have kind
of a pocket quarterback, you can bring him in.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
For red zone plays. That's interesting.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
I think he's an interesting I mean, that's what the
Seahawks did when they drafted the kid that'll back up
a Dalton uh Darnold out of Alabama.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
Oh, Jalen Milrow.

Speaker 6 (16:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Yeah, Like they're gonna use Jalen Milrow in some series
if you get into situations where.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
Maybe at short yardage.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
I don't know if they'll use him a lot, but
he is an insane athlete.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
I forgot this one.

Speaker 5 (16:47):
How about this, Pittsburgh Steelers have a fossilid quarterback.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Why wouldn't you kick the tires on him?

Speaker 1 (16:52):
I don't think that's a bad idea. I don't think
that's a bad idea at all. You're gonna learn from somebody.
Aaron's always been pretty good about that, helping young quarterbacks
in the room.

Speaker 5 (17:00):
A lot of good ideas coming off this side of
the section.

Speaker 3 (17:04):
J Mack with the well, that's.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
The news and thanks for stopping by the Herd line News.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
I'm going to the USC game tomorrow. How about afterwards
we drop over at the nine hundred Saturday night. It's
a little rowdy there, and I can't believe you're announcing
it a live television.

Speaker 5 (17:19):
Goodness gracious, Okay, I gotta.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
Go see my buddy across the street too. All right.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Jason's picks, Tomorrow's headlines, Today and next.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
One more heard. The Herd streams twenty four hours a day,
seven days a week within the iHeartRadio app. Search Herd
to listen live or on demand whenever you like.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
Well, the spitting contest is out of the way, and
the Chargers take on the Kansas City Chiefs tonight in Brazil.
So off a very strong last season. And I don't
know which way you're going on these, but I have
a fee on.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
A couple of them.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
But the former newspaper guy, he kicked that dead end
job to the career and he's now at digital and
TV star. Let's do Jmax Tomorrow's headlines today, his NFL picks.
You know, I thought you liked the Bucks. You're never
a Falcons guy. Bucks are at Tampa. I thought you
liked Baker. What side you on here?

Speaker 5 (18:22):
So last year I watched you plant your flag with
the Broncos, and there was one other team.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
You called Washington Washington.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
Well, that team for me this year is going to
be the Atlanta Falcons. The headline for Falcons Bucks will
be Kyle me crazy. But Pitts might be good. This
is finally the year for Coppits. By the way, his
best two games last year for Coppits came against Tampa.
He had in the two games thirteen catches, bucks seventy nine,
two touchdowns. He was outstanding. But Colin, I don't know

(18:52):
how close you paid attention to this. Tristan Wurf's the
great left tackle.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
He's not playing. He's hurt.

Speaker 5 (18:58):
He's going to miss some time. And I looked into
backup gentlemen by the name of Charlie Heck. He's in
some trouble. He struggled throughout training camp. And what did
Atlanta do this offseason? They upgraded big time on the edge.
They drafted the kid Walker from Georgia, who's awesome. They
drafted Pierce from Tennessee, and then they went and got
Leonard Floyd. They realized they couldn't get to the quarterback.
They're all in. They were going to be coming heavy

(19:20):
after Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
Colin.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
There are some numbers that I've talked about with you
that show Atlanta. You know, they were unlucky. Last year
Kirk Cousins led the NFL with four interceptions in the
final two minutes of games. That's unlucky. He's the backup.
Now enter Michael Pennox, who I like a lot. And oh,
by the way, last year the Bucks won ten games.
Would you believe four of them came against backup quarterbacks.

(19:43):
They beat Rattler twice. That Drew Locke, Aidan O'Connell, like,
come on, man, I think the Bucks are a little overvalued.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
I like the Falcons here, I mean getting points at home?

Speaker 5 (19:52):
How could you pass that up?

Speaker 3 (19:54):
And that leads us into the Jets.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
Tomorrow's headlines today Steelers at the Jets, New York getting
points at home.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Oh, dog's gonna be barking this weekend. The headline for.

Speaker 5 (20:06):
My New York Football Jets will be steel curtains drawn
tight Jets straight past old man Aaron's window. So listen,
this is just a bet against Aaron Rodgers. I'm out
on him. Now, I know some of it is sour
grapes because he kind of got injured with the Jets

(20:26):
and then was quite awful last year. But Colin, if
you look at the tendencies of Aaron Glenn, who's taken
over as head coach as defensive coordinator in Detroit, they
blitzed at the second highest rate in the league last.

Speaker 3 (20:36):
Year, and then, by the way, Steelers have a new
left tackle.

Speaker 5 (20:38):
Yes, the Lions last year were fourth in the league
in pressure rate. Aaron Glenn's DNA. We got to get
after the quarterback. That's what they're gonna do. Rogers is
a statue he's working with new receivers. I don't love
the Pittsburgh blocking scheme. Jalen Warren doesn't really scare me
as a running back, and I don't think the receivers

(20:58):
are top end. Colin, how does this game? Who scores
points in this? I would go over under one and
a half touchdowns in Steelers Jets.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
This is gonna be played. It's gonna be all.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
My take has always been, when you have like the
lowest total on the board and you get a field goal,
I think you got it. And you if you have
a competent quarterback. Justin Fields is more than competent. I'll
take the point.

Speaker 5 (21:22):
I mean Fields is not well, let's be real, he's
not gonna be throwing thirty passes in.

Speaker 3 (21:26):
No way, throws twenty two and moves. I'm good. Yeah,
that's probably the game play.

Speaker 5 (21:30):
So I like the Jets either winning a close one
or winning like you know, twelve six.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
I mean, I think the Jets can pull it off.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
Tomorrow's headlines today this game, Oh, I knew it.

Speaker 3 (21:42):
Cardinals at the Saints.

Speaker 5 (21:44):
So I'm in a wins pool with some guys from
here at Fox, and I drafted not only the Falcons,
but this next team, the Arizona Cardinals. The headline for
Cardinals Saints will be Kyler of duty.

Speaker 3 (21:58):
QB puts up video game numbers.

Speaker 5 (22:01):
Honestly, would not be shocked if Arizona stun folks are
a forty burger here.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
Remember last year in the opener they went in a
Buffalo led for much of that game. I say, oh,
what's going on here?

Speaker 5 (22:10):
Did cover the spread? I know you care deeply about that.
A couple things to note.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
The New Orleans.

Speaker 5 (22:15):
Saints just announced Trevor Penning, who was a bit of
a bus at tackle that kicked him inside the guard.
He's out, so that Saints are now starting a backup
left guard and a rookie left tackle, the kid Banks.
I think this could be a game where Sweat, who
just came over from Philly. He's their new edg rusher.
He could eat and Colin. If you ranked all thirty
two starting quarterbacks this week, who do you think is

(22:37):
dead last?

Speaker 3 (22:40):
Rattler?

Speaker 5 (22:41):
I don't want to be harsh, but he was bad
last year. We saw nothing from him, and he beats
out their rookie quarterback. So I think Kyler Murray eats.
I don't think the Saints could keep up. It could
be a beatdown. So I'm on the Cardinals here every
which way.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
When you look at the Cardinals offensive personnel, do they
have dudes?

Speaker 2 (22:58):
They got?

Speaker 3 (22:58):
How about this? Look? Their scope is players are better
than the Niners. I'm sorry, and the Niners im McCaffrey
and Kittle.

Speaker 5 (23:03):
I mean you look at a Harrison McBride, James Connor.
Those are really top Endler and Kyler is making plays.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Yeah. I like Arizona lot. Now it gets ugly.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
Tomorrow's headlines today, the banged up old brittle Niners at
the young and vibrant Seahawks.

Speaker 5 (23:22):
So by the way, you're on the you know, I
remember when I bashed your Seattle take because you had
them winning the division like a month ago, and I
was like, that's crazy. But you start to dig into
their defense. They're really good and McDonald knows his stuff.
He's excellent, so I think they're gonna be frisky. However,
in week one I got arrived with my guy.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
The headline for.

Speaker 5 (23:39):
Niner Seahawks will be I love it when a Shanna
plan comes together. Niners still the A team. I know
you watched the A team back in the Yeah, mister
t well done, brock Pertty. As I said earlier, three
and oh at lumen Field, Shanna has won six of

(24:01):
seven from the Seahawks kind of owns them. Colin Listen,
I'm not a huge darnold guy. Remember, like he was
really good last year they won fourteen games. Yeah, he
had Kevin O'Connell, who you believe is an elite coach,
and Justin Jefferson, who's the best or second best receiver
in the league.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
He goes to Seattle, he's got like Jackson Smith jig.
But I like him.

Speaker 5 (24:21):
But that's a big drop off from Justin Jefferson, Robert Sala.
He knows defense. He's going to be motivated after that
disaster with my Jets. I'm just praying McCaffrey place. I'll
just leave it at that. And I think the Niners
get I think the nine.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
I have said this.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
I like a lot about the Niners, but I feel
like Bosa gets dinged up, Christian gets dinged up. Yeah,
Trent gets dinged up. That's my thing. I can two
things are true.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
I like the Niners.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
They got some old guys and they are very dependent
on like left tackle star back Kittle.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
You know, Fred Warner gets stinged up. So whoa whoa whoa?

Speaker 5 (24:53):
Like?

Speaker 3 (24:53):
I mean that defense is Warner and Bosa.

Speaker 5 (24:56):
So Seattle has a new offensive coordinator Clint Kubiak. They
got a new quarterback in Sam Darnold. Lot of newness
on that team, new wide receiving group. I don't know
that it gels immediately, give me the Niners.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
Finally, Tomorrow's headlines today Lambo you know I live by Lambeau.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
Now, Lions at the Packers, Stone Troy from Dells in.

Speaker 5 (25:18):
You and Michael Parts are gonna be hanging out soon.
So Packers lines. We've talked about it all week. We
both like the same side. Here the headline four Packers
Lions will be Love Island, green Bay enters Golden years.
I'm bullish on the Packers. Look at that a heart football,
Love Island. Our graphics team is strong. I'm on the
Packers here. I'm just down a little bit on the

(25:41):
Detroit Lions, and everything about the Packers looks great. It
sounds like MICA's gonna play, probably on a pitch count.
Maybe he gets thirty snaps, but I don't know how
much they need him. Because this is an offense for
Green Bay that should click. Remember Love and Company in
the opener last year in Brazil they almost beat green
They love gets hurt at the end to kind of
derail things, but a healthy love.

Speaker 3 (26:04):
Matthew Golden. Keep an eye on him. Like the ground game.

Speaker 5 (26:07):
I think Lafleur has a coaching edge over your boy,
Dan Campbell. So I will go Packers here somewhat comfortably
in a revenge spot because.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
They got swept.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
You know what I noticed when a Texas and Ohio
State played, how much they missed Matthew Golden. Oh yeah,
those Texas receivers did not separate. And last year all
I kept thinking was, man, Texas receivers are always over
because you had to double him. So that kid you take,
I mean, think how good Texas recruits. You take one
receiver out of the receiving corps and they looked totally pedestrian.

(26:36):
So I mean green Bay didn't need another weapon running
back tight ends.

Speaker 3 (26:42):
Why did they draft him?

Speaker 1 (26:43):
That's I think green Bay looked and said, this guy
is the seventh or eighth best player in the draft.

Speaker 5 (26:48):
So when we look back at the Packers, if they
get to the Super Bowl, Colin just remember two things.
They don't draft wide receivers in the first round. Remember
Aaron Rodgers complained about that. They went and got Golden.
Change their tendency. They don't make big, splashy trades up.
They did it for Michael Parsons. And I just wonder
if maybe the new regime is like, we're not going
to do things the old way.

Speaker 3 (27:06):
We're gonna change tendency a little. Let's go all in.

Speaker 5 (27:09):
And I feel like, if you ask me today, are
the Packers in the Super Bowl, I'd say, yeah, I
think they've got a legit shot in the NFC.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
You know, the NFC executives. Mike Sando does a great
job at the other place. Did an anonymous poll among
NFC execs and they ranked the teams, and you and
I were both surprised it was Philly one in Green
Bay two, because I think we both look at Green
Bay as still young. But you know, they draft so
well that they have two tight ends.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
I love they have.

Speaker 1 (27:37):
Tucker craft is yeah, and the other guys from Oregon
stays at Musgrave, nice player, they have really really and
and their back Josh Jacobs a stud. So in a sport,
they're kind of the opposite of the Steelers. They just
do offense right sometimes. That's why I defended the Mica move,

(27:58):
like they can't quite get a consistent, great path. Pittsburgh
does defense right, they draft well on offense, and they
still can't get the offense right. So you know, there
is a culture within Green Bay between coaching, drafting, and developing.
They get offense right.

Speaker 5 (28:13):
You know, I was listening to one of their beat
writers on some podcast, really nerding out, and Halfley, the
defensive coordinator, likes to run a lot of stunts, so
it's not just gonna need Micah coming off the edge.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
He's going to be coming interior.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
I mean there is a world where the Packers fans
are like, guys, we're going to be like a twelve
thirteen win team this year with a healthy.

Speaker 3 (28:33):
Unit, good Friday show. We stand on business, that thing
hum today.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
First Things First has their hands full today trying to
follow that
