You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
All right, we're getting all fired up. What time is
Brady Quinn? Is he going to be around the corner
for us?
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Is he ready here?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Eleven thirty? Okay, I'm all fired up. I still can't
get over. If you're an NBA GM you're taking Wemby
who's had some there have been some lot come on,
well no, I mean, but he's had some physical concerns
over Yokich. Jokich got three percent of the future of
the NBA.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
Well, probably because he's, you know, a little older, and
we don't know how he's going to age into his
thirties with that body. I mean, that's like a.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
If you come chuck mahomes dad ud dude, if you
can shoot and hals yes, you're gonna age. Well, it's
when you're a hyper athletic, you don't age well, Jokic
could play till he was fifty.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
He's gonna score.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Points, He's gonna get buckets. And look at his body.
I don't think it's gonna break down. He's like a
refrigerator with a jumper, a jmac with a news that's good.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Turn on the news. This is the herdline news.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
I don't know how to discuss this, Colin. There's some
sort of cold war brewing perhaps between your guys Pete
Carroll and Chip Kelly. You may need to moderate. Yesterday,
Pete Carroll was taking some shots at the offense. Oh,
Chip Kelly's now responding, Colin, take a listen.
Speaker 5 (01:41):
I mean that's what our game plan is every game.
When you get into the second half. The excuse, but
you know we had twenty five attempts last week and
that in the game there was real balance in the
first half of the football game. When it was a
close game, I think it gets out of hands. So
when you look at some of the numbers, I think
we had twenty five rushing attempts and thirty six passing
attempts at the end of the day. But in the
first half, it was it was pretty it was really even.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
These guys are friends. I don't like this kind of
Pete Carroll. Not throwing him under the bus, but the
comments we need to run the football.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Well, Pete's got to get his defense right. It wasn't
good in Seattle at the end he left. It got
better immediately with a new guy, Antonio Pierce's defense statistically
was better last year than this year. Pete's got Pete's
gotta worry about his defense. That was the issue in Seattle.
I always my rule as always follow the coach's side
(02:30):
of the ball. When Mike McDonald got the Seahawks job,
that defense got better fast. The offense with Gino. Then
they got Sam Donald. Now the offense is good, so
don't worry the Raiders with Chip Kelly. They're going to
run the ball this week against Tennessee. But the issue
is that you should hold Tennessee to thirteen points or less.
(02:53):
They can't move the ball.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Well, he also you lose Colton Miller the left tackle.
That's a big blow to the offense. That hurts acting game.
But I do want to ask, I was thinking about this.
So Pete Carroll's struggling badly. He's in his seventies. Bill
Belichick went to college struggling badly, obviously for different reasons.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Well, nobody's in their prime at seventies.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
I know, I'm not saying the game's passed him by,
but I'm a little surprised at how bad the Raiders
have been. I'm really surprised how bad UNC's been. Is
there something to the agent coach?
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Maybe?
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Well, I think not at all of us are probably.
I mean, I do think people are in their prime
longer than they used to be. Yeah, but I do
think once you get into your mid sixties, it's more
of a challenge. You can't drink at night. You got
to get your sleep, take your Omega threes and your
NAD and your magnesium, and I think you have to
really watch yourself once six is the first number you
(03:43):
just gotta you know, you just got to watch your
diet matters more.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
I don't think.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
I mean, we have presidents in the first number seven,
so I think football coaches are fun.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Let's move on.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
To Dak Prescott. You know, I think the MVP discussion
is at it'll goofy this early in the season, but
it's undeniable that Dak would be in that discussion with
Baker Mayfield and company. Anyways, here's what Dak's got to
say about how much longer he has left.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
In the tank.
Speaker 6 (04:11):
So if I can get to forty plan and the
standard that I want, yeah, that'd be awesome. But to
answer your question, yeah, it's definitely it's definitely changed. I
can see it more realistic, more realistically now, and I think,
as much as anything, just the fun and the piece
that this game still gives me ten years in is
going to be hard, and I don't think, I mean,
you can't supplement it. So as long as I can
(04:32):
do this at a level that I'm proud.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
And happy with, I'll keep truying best he's ever played.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
And he's having to carry this team because I don't
have a number one wide receiver. I think the offensive
lines missstarters. I think Dak's plan as well as he's
ever played.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
One of the best spoken quarterbacks in the league. He's
just always been really smart. Well, he's always been intelligent. Well,
he's always been smart. His issue has always been does
he's throw a great ball? Not really, but I mean
day one in the lead, Kyler Murray throws a great
ball his first.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Year in the league.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
My takeaway was that's the best quarterback at the podium,
including Tom Brady I've ever heard. I've always thought Dak's
e q iq.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
I mean it's not.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
I mean Dan Mullen was as college coach and acknowledged
on our show. We didn't love bow was the way
he threw. We just loved the human. So no, Dak's
the definition of what leadership looks like.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
And that's with all the nonsense going on in that organation,
the owner flicking off fans with the middle finger and
I was bruised. He's just nonsense everywhere, and he seems
very cool and calm. Yes, I don't know, maybe I
just need to try that, just to chill out a
little bit. I like Dak Prescott. Final story, Colin Boy,
this Eagles offense last night was a struggle bus and
then they did this and what felt like a middle finger. Seriously,
(05:46):
they ran the tush push four times in a row.
So they basically said, screw it, we're doing this. We'll
see what you gotta do. Mike up Parsons waiting online
with a tweet.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
This is not football.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
And then you see some let's just see flks who
follow the NFL with large social media accounts also saying
Church Push four plays in a row. It's clear, Colin,
a lot of people want this play out of the league.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
It's very clear. I think it's going to lose the
next vote.
Speaker 4 (06:11):
Sirianni doesn't seem to care. Maybe he knows. Hey, the
windows closing, screw it. Let's just put a lot of
it's momentum. You know, if somebody got hurt here, somebody. Yeah,
I mean they were jumping off sides. I think one
of the guards did. I'll say this. They're run blocking
on the Church Push. Great, but they're run blocking regularly.
It's not say one has no room to operate.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
We had one big first half run and one I
think big third quarter.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Run as it.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Otherwise it's three yards and a cloud of dust. The
interior line has not been that great now. The pass
blocking is good, the run blocking just isn't there.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Jmack with the news.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the

Speaker 1 (07:19):
We've played in the NFL for seven years. A Heisman
Trophy finalist, he's one of the voices of college football
at Fox. It's great to have mom on. Brady Quinn
is joining us. He'll be at that Ohio State Illinois
game where USC didn't exactly didn't exactly light the world up,
so that was pretty disappointing. We'll get to USC Michigan
in a bit. Listen Ohio State. I've always felt, Brady,
(07:41):
it's the SEC program up north, but that's when I
felt the SEC.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Was better than the Big Ten.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
I don't I think Indiana is the equal of Old
miss I think, I mean you live in them in West.
I think times have changed. I was watching Dave Portnoy
this morning on social and he did all these matchups
and I did disagree with them. It does look different, Brady.
When I watched Big ten games five years ago, it
looked different. I think Ohio State's the best team in
(08:08):
the country, and I'm not sure Oregon's not second.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
How's that land for you? That's about right?
Speaker 7 (08:14):
I mean, I think you got to throw into Miami
into the conversation right now. I know that doesn't play
into the Big ten SEC debate when it's all said
and done. But the reality is the last two national
champions were Big ten teams. You go back and look
at the teams that are playing for it, even the
semi finals last year, Penn State Notre Dame that is
not obviously the Big ten, but still a Midwest team.
You're seeing really a lot of these Big ten teams.
(08:36):
Midwest teams have caught up. And it's important for Big
ten specifically because they're getting more money in for NIL.
You know, they're just schools with a little bit more
money to be able to pass around. And when you
think about the transfer port, when thinking about how you
construct a roster, that plays a huge role. And so
before NIL really became legalized for a lot of these players,
I think the SEC was able to dominate, and now
(08:58):
players are willing to go wherever they can to get
an opportunity to play win a national championship, but also,
you know, maximize their market ability and maximize their ability
to make as much as they can. So they're willing
to leave the warm confines of the South to be
able to go up to the north and be able
to take over on some of those teams and go
win national championships. So again, I think we're seeing that
passing of the torch right now. Still a lot of
(09:19):
football left be played. We'll see how it all plays out,
but I don't think there's any doubt about it. Hot
State Oregon looked to be two of the best, if
not the two best teams in the country.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
So when the West Coast teams joined the Big Ten,
you know, my take was Oregon and Washington already playing
cruddy weather all the time. It won't matter. The flights
are three and four hours, they're not eight. You're not
playing in Beijing.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
It's fine.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
But USC has been different, Brady. They haven't looked physical.
They look like a warm weather team. They got pushed
around last week by Illinois, and I said yesterday this
Michigan game you got Notre Dame coming up. You're not
beating Notre Dame there with that quarterback play and that coach,
you're not beating Oregon. In Oatson, this is a defining
moment that you have pivoted the big ten fold. I
(10:04):
think it's that big of a game for USC. I
don't think it's that big for Michigan. I mean, how
is your feeling going into this game?
Speaker 7 (10:12):
In La more curiosity than anything else. I mean, very
similar to Illinois, who you talked about a little bit.
Ago disappointed you when they knocked off your you know,
Southern Cayl Trojans, but they responded after a really tough
lost Indiana. I mean, you watch that tape, going how
can this be the same team? The way Brett Billen
was able to get Illinois to rally and respond to that,
(10:33):
It's going to be very similar to Lincoln Riley. He's
got to find a way to get his team to rally,
stay in this thing, realize that you know, it's just
one loss. It doesn't define your season, or you can't
let it define your season. So their physicality will be
challenged once again by Michigan, because yes, the passing attack
has improved. Bryce Underwood probably had his best passing game
this past week versus Wisconsin, but different challenge and the
(10:54):
past defense for Michigan's going to be challenged big time
with makay Lemon, Jacoby Lana, all all the playmakers that
USC has on the outside, as talented quarterback as Jade
mav Is, So we know that they can match up
in that respect. The question is if Michigan starts to
play Bolli ball very similar the way Illinois was able
to run against them, are they going to be able
to get off the field.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Are they going to be able to get stops?
Speaker 7 (11:16):
Because the Illinois USC game was not as close as
the score predictive we got. There's two fumbles that were
going into the end zone, one of which never should
have been overturned or I never should call in the
first place.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
He was already down.
Speaker 7 (11:26):
So when you look at this matchup, it's really a
challenge to USC to see how they can respond physically
more than anything else. And it's going to speak volumes
about where this program's at it. And the tough thing
for them is they got to play Michigan. Then you
go on the road to play Notre Dame another physical team.
They're going through a gauntlet this season of physicality. They
got to play Nebraska at some point two. All those matchups,
(11:48):
it's going to be whether or not they can not
only survive and then meet that physicality, but sustain it
throughout the rest of the season.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
So before I get to your Ohio State game, Notre
Dame plays NC State. Then they play sc So it's
one of those weird games where your big rivals the
following week.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
A trap game. Trap game.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Is probably strying to say, yeah, yeah, CJ. Carr is
playing out of his mind. He is he a freshman?
I think he's a freshman?
Speaker 3 (12:13):
His 't he is? He's sure freshman.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Yeah, it's about I mean, the kid can play. So
I look at Dante Moore and CJ Carr and we
came into the year with all these big name quarterbacks
and I'm like, no, those are the two best quarterbacks.
Talk a little bit about CJ, and talk a little
bit about Dante, because I don't think it's close from
what I've watched this season, those guys that's Sunday football,
(12:37):
I mean, and it's way too early for CJ.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
But those guys look special. What do you see well.
Speaker 7 (12:44):
Let me first say this, I'd throw Fernanda Mendoz at
Indiana into that conversation. So he's been phenomenal this year.
And also Carson back he's responded well so far. So
I would say those four are playing the best quarterback
and joined sant as well as as number five of
anyone in the country right now. But specifically CJ. I
mean his grandfather was Lloyd Carr. We we all know
that as Pops played as well. You can just tell
(13:05):
the way he plays the game. He's been brought up
to be able to read defense, is understand what offensive
coordinators are trying to execute on any given play. He's
able to manipulate the defense with his eyes. He does
things that are just so far beyond where he's at
in his playing career at Notre Dame. It gives you
the sense that you feel like he's almost NFL ready
because of how he plays the game. He's ridiculously accurate
(13:28):
with the football at all three levels in the field,
and he can move around, he can create, he can
make something out of nothing. So this young man, to me,
and I've said this before, I said it when he signed,
I think is going to be the greatest quarterback in.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
Notre Dame history. Like, that's how special he is.
Speaker 7 (13:42):
When you watch him play the game, it feels like
everything's playing so slow for him. And very similar to that.
Dante Moore, who was a big Notre Dame recruiter, ended
up going to UCLA obviously found his way to Oregon.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
Same thing.
Speaker 7 (13:53):
I mean, these young men calling they nowadays come in
so prepared mechanically, there's no flaws in there throwing.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
They're accurate as all get out.
Speaker 7 (14:02):
They understand what offensive cordators are asking from them, and
these different concepts how they're trying to attack a defense.
And you just saw in a big stage versus Penn
State how he handled in that clutch moment. So Dante
Moore is draft elis well. He is the guy that
if I was a team looking at this quarterback class,
would have up there as one of my top quarterbacks
that I'm evaluated, potentially taking number one overall. So big
(14:24):
game for him this week obviously versus IU. He's got
a lot more to display, I think, But I think
the world of Dante mort too. He's very poised, another
wise young man. When you talk to him, he just
feels ready for the moment. Nothing's ever too big for him.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
So you have Ohio State Illinois. I got to give
Ryan Day credit. When people beat up on Ryan Day.
My take as well, he's losing the Hardballs Wolverines in Georgia.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Let's slow down.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
But I think it takes some security to go. I'm
gonna go to the NFL and get Chip Kelly. Now
they're friends, I know that, But then he does it
again with Matt Patricia. And last year the Buckeyes were
kind of about their offense. This year they kind of
about their defense. And I got to tell you when
I when I watch that defense, how much of it, Brady?
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Is the scheme Patricia?
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Because I think Chip Kelly by the end of that year,
they had good players. I mean, Abuka is obviously ridiculous. Yeah,
but when you watch Ohio State's defense they shut Washington down.
Is it the talent? Is it the players? Is that
Matt Patricia? What does the film tell Brady Quinn.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
I think it's the combination of all of it. I mean,
I think, first off, where you.
Speaker 7 (15:31):
Give Randy a lot of credits, the fact that he
lost Jim Kelly. You know, he lost Jim Knowles, and
so you're you're finding you're you know, finding new people
to come into those spots, and for Matt Patricia to
come down to the college level, there's a bit of
a learning curve there, but also eight new starters on defense.
So when you take that into account, this group is
playing as good, if not better than last year's defense.
And that's really saying something for a lot of guys
(15:52):
who are jumping into roles like Kayden Curry, who's starting
this year is one of the best edge rushers in
the country right now, are Ville Reeese Sunny Styles, these
guys are really you know.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Kind of popped up.
Speaker 7 (16:01):
Versta on the scene is two of the best defenders
at the linebacker position you're going to see in all
of college football. So it's part of obviously the players
and the skill they have, it's part of the development.
I also think it's part of the scheme because it's
a very different scheme than what we saw, you know,
last year from Jim Knowles, who typically had kind of
come from over that three three five, and Matt Patricia
is so multiple with that NFL approach where you're getting
(16:23):
a variety of fronts, a variety of coverages, a variety
of looks that you have to deal with, and throughout
the course of the game, he's not allowing you to
get a beat on things. So defensively speaking, they have
been absolutely lights out. And it's impart because that talent
and obviously their coaching staff, but also on the flip side,
looking at their offense, it's because of how scary they
are on that side.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
I mean, teams are.
Speaker 7 (16:43):
So afraid to give this offense opportunities with the football.
Go back to the Washington game, only had seven drives
in the entire game.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
You're averaging usually twelve.
Speaker 7 (16:53):
So people are almost running four minute offenses to start
games just to keep Julian sand and Jeremiah Smith and
Carnell Tate off of the field. Now, I know Ohio
State doesn't run at a breakneck pace either on offense,
but still it goes to show you the respect that
I think a lot of teams have and what they
think of this team as a whole.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
But a lot of credit.
Speaker 7 (17:10):
Goes to Ryan Day and you know, giving Brian Harlan
that opportunity, who's done a tremendous job with the offense,
bringing joy and saying along and really you know, finding
a freshman and Bo Jackson, who's really emerged is probably
their best running back at this point too. For a
team that I think it's going to be in the national
championship hunt once again. You know, that's that's a lot
of credit you're giving a young man to be able
to take over at that specific position, to be able
(17:32):
to carry the rock for you. But that's how this
Ohio State is kind of Ohio State team has emerged
this year after all the talent that's gone on.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
The NFL Big noon kickoff ten Eastern Ohio State in Champagne.
I was there last week that the outcome was not
my favorite outcome of all time.
Speaker 7 (17:48):
A lot of us loved it, actually, Carlin, a lot
of us here in the Midwest, we're not surprised by
I loved it.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
I bet no tears. Great seeing you man. You just
such a nice job.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
Thanks Brady, Thanks yeah, great stuff from him. You know,
Ohio State, you can just see on the highlights we
show that that defense is I mean, you know, it's
different in the NFL. I was telling the president of
Indiana University was here today a football fan, and we
(18:18):
were talking and it's like in the NFL, the worst
team in the first you still have great players. Like
it's a lot of it's just like who's your quarterback.
But in college there's a gap between Okay, that's Georgia
and that's you know, Georgia Tech or something, and Georgia
Tech's fine. But when you watch Ohio State play the
last couple of years, just turn the sound down. The
(18:40):
offense last year, the defense this year. It doesn't look
like ninety nine point nine percent of.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
The rest of college football.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
That offense at the end of last year was just
the running backs, the wide receivers. It was just like
everybody was a Sunday player. That defense right now is
stacked and fast. Oyo State's deepense is fast.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd weekdays
and noon Easter not a em Pacific.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
All right, welcome back. J Mack had a good weekend.
We he and I do not. We just look at
different games. I took some dogs who often have fleas.
I took like the Raiders. I'm betting on it.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Miami.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
I think Miami at home and I'm surprised getting four
and a half.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
You even know if brock Bowers is playing, by the way,
for the Raiders, like, I mean, they're running the ball.
Miami's Miami's crazy. I mean, going against Jim Harbaugh and Justin.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Herbert, I'm not. It's not who's gonna win, it's picking
the winner. I picked the Chargers to win. It's who's
going to cover.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
I mean, you know some of these guys off a loss.
You think Jim Harball, he's tearing off the paint in
that locker room after that lost name.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Let's do it tomorrow's headlines. Today we predict the outcome
the headlines. Let's start Week six. Let's start with second
year quarterback Drake Well, this is your guy. You called
the Patriots your team of destiny this summer. I was
a little dubious.
Speaker 4 (20:05):
However, they look good. The headline for Patriots Saints will
be Boston t party animal paint. Swap bourbon for brew
for bourbon. I like the Patriots here big time.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Colin.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
This is one of these Like, I know everybody wants
to fade New England. Right Hey, they just beat Buffalo
on Sunday and football, they're not that good. They're gonna
fade against the Saints. I think this Christian Gonzales addition
to the defense. He's so good. I looked up the numbers, Colin.
He's played since in the last two weeks, they've had
seven targets at Gonzales, he's allowed three catches. That's it.
He's a lockdown corner. So you put him on Olave
(20:41):
right and he follows him around. Where's Spencer Ratler going
the tight end issues Murky. I think Rabel locks up
Spencer Ratler and that Saints offense. And if the Saints
don't get five turnovers last week, they lose to the Giants.
Remember they were down fourteen to six early, Colin. I
think the Patriots win here covered three, three and a half.
I like the kind of big all.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Right Tomorrow's headlines today, So this one I stayed away
from because I think Stefanski's good. I think the Steelers
are a little over valued. I don't love the number
browned at the Steelers. I know what you're cooking on
this one.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Well, you know you're supposed to take Mike Tomlin when
he's an underdog. That's right, raw ra guy gets everybody
fired up. They're big favorites here. But for a reason,
the headline for Steelers Browns will be small price to
pay Gabriel can't reach first win. I know you like
bagging on small quarterbacks. This is a tough spot, Colin,
unbelievable stat for you. Mike Tomlin at home against first
(21:40):
year quarterbacks sixteen and one. He dominates these young guys,
throws all these wrinkles at him. And oh, by the way,
Tomlin's off a bye. Any idea how he's done off
of by Colin? Mike Tomlin last five years off of
by five and oh, straight up against the spread, you
go back eight years eight and oh, essentially he's Andy
Reid off of bye. The guy uses his week to
game plan. He's not like Belichick vacationing in the cod
(22:02):
with his young girlfriend. Tom one's locked in. I think
Dylan Gabriel is in a real tough spot here. And
I mentioned the spot because they played in London, had
to travel back to the US, then have to travel
It's not a big trip though, to Pittsburgh. Steelers are
rested off a by sleeping in their own beds. There's
a reason this number is creeping up. I like Pittsburgh here,
and if Aaron Rodgers doesn't deliver, I'll be very shocked.
(22:23):
I think Steelers would miss by double digits.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
Tomorrow's headlines today Cardinals at the Colts. Well, Colts are
better than going to win the game by how much? Yeah,
we have some breaking news. Kyler Marie is at practice today.
He missed the last two days with a foot injury.
I personally don't think it matters. The headline for Cardinals
Colts well be the hoof, the hoof, the hoof is
on fire.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
Give me the Colts here colin big time.
Speaker 4 (22:48):
I mean, listen, I'm done doubting Daniel Jones' psyching, right,
I mean, we've seen enough data. They're good. They went
toe to toe with the Rams, I mean in a
spot last week against the Raiders where you're like, oh,
maybe it's a win. They beat them forty to six.
And some of the numbers for Arizona Colon they've lost
three straight by three or fewer points. At some point,
how much does that creep into your head? Damn? We
(23:10):
keep losing these close games. They led by fourteen in
the fourth quarter against Tennessee and.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
The San Francisco beat in the Bay.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
You know who else led by fourteen last week and blew?
It was the Philadelphia Eagles. What happened to them the
following week. They didn't look from the jump. They just
looked kind of defeated and slow. I worry this could
be another blowout. The line currently is seven. This Colt
team for real. Jonathan Taylor, by the way, leads the
NFL in rushing. Cardinals have not given up one hundred
yard rusher. If Taylor breaks a couple off, what do
(23:40):
we got here? I think Gannon's in some trouble. I
know it's a big favorite, and then I'm going three
favorites to start here, But give me the Colts.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Now, these big favorites have not done well.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
That's also true.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
Rams over the Niners Bills crushing the Saints. Tomorrow's headlines today,
Bucks said the Bucks hosting the Niners half a San
Francisco's not planned. I'm not touching this thing. You you're
gonna go all in on.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
So sometimes you know, you end up fading a team
week after week thinking, oh, they're not good at smoking mirrors.
That's me with Tampa Bay. The headline for San Francisco
Tampa Bay will be counting. Kyleeres Shanahan closes down bakery.
I got the Niners here beating Baker Maybe Wow, I
know it's risky, it's dumb, it's probably gonna be mac Jones.
(24:30):
My big concern for San fran is this defense without
Bosa Colin two weeks toothless, not getting to the quarterback
can't do anything. I mean, they openly were talking this week. Yeah,
we're probably gonna look at adding a defensive edge rusher.
They need one, and if Baker's got time in the pocket,
it could be a problem for the Niners. But why
would you doubt Shanahan at this point?
Speaker 1 (24:51):
Right?
Speaker 4 (24:51):
We both did last week we got kicked in the teeth.
I mean, this feels to me like a big Christian
McCaffrey game. The back end of the Tampa defense not great.
Sam Darnold. Didn't you say he was like perfect last week?
He was like it missed like four incompletions or something. Listen,
mac Jones can deliver. I'll take the three with the Niners.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
Lions at the Chiefs. Finally, let's wrap it up Week six.
Tomorrow's headlines today. Listen, I thought Kansas City played great
against Jacksonville. Patrick Mahomes did not see Devin Lloyd and
paid a price. But I think Kansas City's I stayed
away from this game because I think Kansas City, even
though I have Detroit as the number one team in
(25:32):
the league, it's at arrowhead. I think Kansas City's gonna win.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
So we talked about it earlier in the weekend. I
was like, I think Lions, right. I don't know, Colin.
You start drilling down on that Detroit resume. They hit
number one in the herd hierarchy. The headline for Chiefs
Lions will be Boxers or Chiefs. Casey stops the Lions streak,
I'm going with the Chiefs. I don't like them this season,
(25:55):
but I like them here, Colin. I looked at all
these results since that loss to the Packers in the opener.
They crushed the Bears at home. Detroit did as nothing special,
fifty points whatever. They also crushed Jake Browning, who's now
been bench for Joe Flacco. They also crushed Cleveland in Detroit.
Cleveland not good on the road, and that went over Baltimore,
which looked amazing all of a sudden, Baltimore can't stop
(26:17):
anybody because of the injuries. So maybe the Lions resume
is not as great as we think it is. And oh,
by the way, two starting defensive backs Terry On Arnold
and Kirby Joseph both not practicing this week. Now you're
going up against worthy Taekwon Thornton. I think the Chiefs
are the side here, Colin, you are looking at me
like you don't like this pick.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
Well, I think the Chiefs are the side I think,
and I actually, I mean, listen, the Steelers are the
side with the Browns. I've just watched three or four
of these divisional games that look like locks go the
other way. I mean not just not covering losing rams
getting thrown around, Eagles losing badly. I think of all
(26:59):
your picks, I think rounds at the Steelers. I think
Patriots will beat the Saints. I don't think the Saints
are gonna score March. I just think it's very low scoring.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
Matchup to watch in Chiefs Lions is Hutchison, who's a superstar,
going up against the rookie Josh Simmons, who remember the
Ohio State kid we heard always.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
He got hurt and so he dropped to the bottom
of the first round.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
Right, So this will be the big test for him
against Hutchison. If he can show out, that's a great sign.
And oh By the way we're Shee Rice coming back soon.
If the Chiefs win this one, they're probably going to
the playoffs. If they lose, I think that's your show
opener on Monday, Kansas City two and four.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
I was surprised you didn't take Seattle. The the injuries
on defense.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
I can't. I mean, I can't do it. And I
love me some Jaguars this year. I have a futures
bet on them to win the division, some kind of
rooting for them every week.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
All right, So Philadelphia lost last night, obviously got blown out.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
I thought the offense was fine.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
Greg Cosel has been critical of Jalen hurt saying basically,
he didn't throw the ball at the middle field. He
didn't see it, and that's okay to us. Same thing
Russell Wilson. They're good deep ball throwers because they need
to be. But we had Jordan Palmer, who's always been
kind of the quarterback whisper of our show, talking about
why Jalen Hurts is struggling.
Speaker 9 (28:15):
You keep replacing coordinators every year and because whether excuse me,
whether you're doing that because your team is struggling or
because your team's in the Super Bowl. Every year either
way you start shifting coordinators. The media and the fans
want to make it about scheme. I think one of
the most underrated things in sports that I don't see
owners do is say, we've got a great offensive coordinator, Let's.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
Just pay him like a head coach.
Speaker 9 (28:39):
If it's going to cost us a chance to win
a Super Bowl and make a run, let's just drastically
overpay him so we don't lose him.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Yeah, and I listen, Jared Goff has been good with
seven different coordinators, so I think losing coordinators is a reality.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
I think. I don't think he's wrong at all. I
think there's.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
For a lot of quarterbacks in this league there's a
way they have to play, and I think Jalen's one
of those guys. I think Josh Allen and Joe Burrow
and you know Mahomes they can play anyway they want.
They just they I think hurts his kind of the
classic there's a way he has to play. Also, most
(29:23):
quarterbacks are noticeably better if you give them a strong
run game. I mean, you watch Jackson Dart last night
with Cam's Kataboo. It's amazing, isn't It looks like he's
been in the league for a while, you give you know,
Derek Henry, Lamar Jackson. The Ravens issues were mostly on defense, right,
I mean Patrick Mahomes. Their offense in Kansas City this
(29:43):
year doesn't have as much rhythm as usual. The reason
that doesn't they don't run the ball, even Mahomes. When
you run the ball, you have a certain kind of
a foundation of the house. We can run the ball,
we can get first downs. Eagles aren't running the ball
particularly well. Tush push is effective, but like two yards.
So I think when Jalen doesn't have a consistent run
(30:03):
game last year he did, he was great this year.
I mean, watch Camscataboo last night. With a really effective
run game changes everything. I mean, by the way Sam Darnold,
oh Seattle runs the ball really effectively. That's a lot
of guys. You know, Josh Allen was great without James Cook.
I think that's kind of rare. I mean, part of
(30:25):
the reason DAK is flourishing this year is Javonte Williams
has actually kind of emerged as the Denver guy pre injury.
You're like, oh, that's a B plus a minus running back.
So I think Jalen hurts is finding out what it's
like to quarterback without an effective run game. There's a
reason Philly went out and got Saquon Barkley. They had
a bunch of guys they wanted the guy, and last
(30:48):
year it delivered. This year it's not, and he's regressed.
He's pulled back all right. Great college football Saturday, amazing
baseball playoff action all weekend long. First things first, around
the corner. We'll see him Monday. Be safe, the hurt
