good when carry Roads, Yes we will. Did you go
to an anti championship game two years in a row?

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Right?

Speaker 5 (00:47):
Well, I went one and I got trad at Arizona.

Speaker 6 (00:49):
Then I would stayed with the jests that we would
have want a Super Bowl though, just to make it
even more sick.

Speaker 5 (00:54):
Right now, there you go.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
But I remember, giggle little gig, Yes, Jets actually good.

Speaker 5 (01:00):
I grew up in New York and you're just growing up.
I was. Don't say just growing up. You're done. No,
I'm done.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
I haven't been a fan for like forty years of teams.
I'm just not you know, I'm a reporter right right
right now, I'm not would you stop Jeff fan under
underneath it all.

Speaker 5 (01:17):
No, I'm not a fan at all.

Speaker 7 (01:19):
No, But you know, if the Yankees on Rocky, let's
get that on TV one, two and three, just in case.
I just want to want and then and then if
Aaron Judges up turned down the monitors, I don't need
to hear Kelvin. Let's get the sound. I want to
hear them call the play by player.

Speaker 6 (01:32):
He's trying to hard, he's trying to hide his partial
partiality exactly.

Speaker 7 (01:37):
And then you know, Lamar was his guy. We're getting
to Mark Jackson in a few minutes. Lamar was his
guy forever, I know. But when Aaron Rodgers is there, Oh,
of the Aaron Rodgers got some beautiful balls, right Rob.

Speaker 6 (01:48):
That's that's where it's from. Yeah, I can't believe. Is
that what it is?

Speaker 5 (01:53):
Ain't it? It's not.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
I just don't feel good about them. But anyway, it
is a herd. Happy New Year's Day. Great to be
with you, that's right.

Speaker 5 (02:50):
So be there. Yes, I'm double dipping on the holiday.

Speaker 6 (02:54):
Then the first day of the year when people are
putting out there, you know, I'm gonna I'm gonna be
more balanced in my life. I'm not gonna do all
these things. I'm gonna pay attention to my health and myself.
You're just like, I'm going.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
All in that. That's whoy I carry you. You know
me for a few years, I'm a worker and I
enjoy what I do. And you know, when I take
off and spend time if I'm not if I'm not
doing anything with the family and I mean my extended family,
then I'm gonna work. If I have family or I gotta,

(03:26):
you know, gonna go visit or do something, then I
take off. But if I'm gonna lay on the couch
on New Year's Day, I might as well do the way.

Speaker 5 (03:32):
I admire you for that.

Speaker 6 (03:33):
I've kind of looked at you from Afar and even
getting to know you these past couple of years, and
you know me, I'm if I can come in and
be here as well, I'm gonna.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
I just can't.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Done.

Speaker 6 (03:44):
Yeah, but I'll tell you what. After we get done here,
I'm going back to my bed.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
You and Rob G because of course Rob g ain't
doing double dip and Rob G hell no, I know
Rob done Like He's like, okay, nice, Sorry we did
to hurt. I'm driving back home. We'll see you on Fridays. Today, Thursday,
how Wonday?

Speaker 5 (04:04):
Will you at least listen to the show? Are you kidding?

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Now?

Speaker 5 (04:09):
He can't stand the show? What he's doing? Nah? All right?

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Rob?

Speaker 5 (04:12):
Do you gotta update on this Oregon Texas?

Speaker 7 (04:14):
Yeah, big game in the Orange Bowl College Football playoff
quarter finals. We've been talking about it throughout the show.
Very tight game, six to nothing. Even though Oregon has
dominated in every major category.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
This is an upstated as far as like domination, you
could lose this.

Speaker 7 (04:29):
They had a third and two at the thirty three
yard line or so they call a deep shot incomplete
a right field goal. Right, they bypassed the field goal
once again. They go forward on fourth down. Dante Moore scrambles,
gets tackled, short ball back to So.

Speaker 5 (04:43):
That's two field goals.

Speaker 7 (04:44):
That's doing twelve points six nothing. Texas Tech has the ball,
crazy and.

Speaker 5 (04:49):
Rob if this score holes.

Speaker 8 (04:50):
This keeps going back to what you were talking our
one about, you know, first round byszho and to five
in these playoffs so far Texas Tech had a first
round by it'll be six.

Speaker 7 (05:00):
And look they're still rusty, they're they're off. Wow, well
what's in their favors? They're often and learned down by
six pens exactly, So hopefully by now they're warmed up
and they should be good here in the second half.
The Plumbers sticks sticks to being true. Yell right.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
One of the biggest games, of course is Sunday night football,
right the Ravens.

Speaker 5 (05:19):
That's in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Correct, That game is in Pittsburgh against the Steelers and
the winner wins the division and gets the playoff and
and a home game and gets a host of game,
I mean host a game. So somebody's coming to Pittsburgh
or Baltimore, yes, for that game and Rob guh lay
it out here.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
Because there's a lot of stuff talking.

Speaker 7 (05:39):
There's some consternation in Baltimore. That's a big word that
is learned that from Southern Connecticut Tech State University whatever,
home of the fighting Rob Parkers in the fest box.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
That's right.

Speaker 7 (05:52):
OK, so big game of course. Now the Ravens have
had must win games each of the last two weeks.
That had win last week to set up this week.
Lamar hurts his back in week sixteen, Snoop Huntley starts
in Green Bay, must win, God to have a game,
plays great sixteen of twenty two oh seven and a
touchdown he ran for others sixty yards. The big story,
of course, Derreck Henry on his back run thirty six carries,

(06:17):
shoutut nineteen nineties football rights, then thirty six cards.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
In the week before that, when they didn't even give
him the ball in the second half.

Speaker 7 (06:23):
They didn't give the ball the last drive yet yeah right,
and then he didn't touch the ball if they got
up by I think eleven points yep, thirty six carries
to sixteen four touchdowns. So flash forward to this week.
Lamar Jackson gets his first Wednesday practice in about two months,
comes back from his back injury. We don't know exactly
how much he did. They haven't said that yet. We
do know he's wearing a big flat jacket to prevent

(06:45):
protect his back in his mid section.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
I thought that was a fashion statement. Okay, I'm wrong. Nope.

Speaker 7 (06:50):
So and even as of today Thursday at two pm Eastern,
John Harbass still has not said who is going to
start on Sunday, Lamar jack or Snoop Huntley. But if
you ask mutual friend of ours, friend of the show,
Shining Sharp, he hasn't answer what he thinks should happen.
Take a listen.

Speaker 5 (07:09):
I'm starting Huntly.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
What what you're playing Madden about?

Speaker 5 (07:12):
Real life?

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Yep?

Speaker 5 (07:13):
Man, please just run the same from me. There's no
need to start Huntley because I know who he's back there,
So I'm gonna ask him to do more.

Speaker 6 (07:21):
Is Lamar gonna be able to get out of arms
weight like Huntley did last night when Green Bay has
he looked like Lamar Jackson since he's gotten back.

Speaker 5 (07:28):
No, not the one, not because he's coming off injury.
So therefore start huntly thank you?

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Oh my goodness, all right, and there you go. My
thing is it's cutting dry? Is that another turnover?

Speaker 5 (07:42):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (07:42):
My Texas tax trip sack yep, unbelievable. Where were they?

Speaker 8 (07:48):
Morgan's gonna have the ball in the red zone?

Speaker 5 (07:50):
Wow? Wow at the five, I think.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Yeah, it's gonna be ball game here. Yeah, let's go
a touchdown here game but here here, I am if
Lamar's hurt, carry, I don't want him to play if
he's not. If he's hurt, yeah, what does hurt mean
to you? I mean he can't perform like he's out there,
like you're trying to like, is a touchdown?

Speaker 5 (08:13):
Is a touchdown? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (08:13):
It looks like a touchdown. Okay, so it's finally they
broke through. And what I mean is he really shouldn't
be out there playing. And I'll give you an example
ken Kevin Durant in the NBA Finals. Yes, okay, we
all knew he shouldn't have been out there. Would you
agree with that? I agree with that, I don't think

(08:34):
like they claim all the doctors cleared him and all that.
I'm like, well, who are the doctors take their degrees?
Because everybody was like, what is he doing out there?
And of course it happens he wound up getting hurt.
If he's seventy percent, sixty five, seventy percent, I'm going
to play him over Hunt, I am yes, I'm sorry,

(08:54):
I'm going to play him, and I'll try to protect him,
try to make sure, you know, get the running game
in there as much as we can establish it. And
then you know what I mean where I'm not asking
him to be Superman, but i want my two time
MVP quarterback to play him.

Speaker 5 (09:12):
At seventy percent, is still better than Hotley? Yes, yes, right, and.

Speaker 6 (09:17):
Specifically going into this game where if Baltimore doesn't know
the blueprint for them to win right now, this isn't
last year. This isn't the year before where they were
an unst unstoppable offense and they had an unstoppable player
in Lamar Jackson where he could do things that other
guys can do.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
He had a.

Speaker 6 (09:35):
Ridigulous, unreal year. This isn't that year. So you played
last week and the must got to have a game.
You ran Derrick Henry thirty six thirty seven times and
you won the game. You're telling me a seventy percent
Lamar Jackson can turn around to hand the ball off
and and still more fear and give more fear to
the defense with him being back there, even if he's not.

(09:57):
Like this stuff coming out about playing Tyler Hunley over
Lamar Jackson, eed, if he's seventy percent doesn't make any
sense coming from players coming from Shannon s Man, Please
be quiet.

Speaker 5 (10:08):
I agree.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
I can't get over because if you don't win that game,
you can't live with yourself, Rob if you don't.

Speaker 6 (10:19):
If they don't win this game, wholesale changes are coming,
and I think they're coming anyway.

Speaker 5 (10:24):
But the Ravens that we know or have known the
last few years.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Winning seventy seventy three percent of Lamar's game, this is
gonna all change. Yes, okay, this is this is so
I want to go down with my two time MVP
quarterback now like again if he really can't play, and
it's oh, of course, Andrew, I'm not putting the guy
out if I really know, but he's at practice, like

(10:50):
if he didn't practice all week and you're trying to
play him on Sunday.

Speaker 5 (10:54):
Nah, yes you know this. Yes, you're not practicing all week.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
You can't play on Sunday. I'm sorry. You gotta practice,
you gotta practice. So he practiced on Wednesday. Rob Jieven
said it first time in a couple of months he's
had a Wednesday practice.

Speaker 6 (11:08):
I gotta feel like he's going to play. He's gonna play, right.
The fact that Hardball hasn't said it yet, that's just
And if that's for them, and.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
If they lose, it's okay. It's okay from the standpoint.
You put your best people in and it wasn't your
night and you lose. And now maybe this was the
ending of what we had here.

Speaker 5 (11:27):
We failed.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
We didn't get to the super Bowl. We didn't you know,
it didn't even give our chance. So it's a chance.
I told you I picked him the last three years.
I know you've been picking them because on paper, on paper,
they should win. When I when I remember Week one
and they go to Buffalo and put up forty points
and lose that game, do you remember, like, like course,
I remember looking at the school going, oh my god,

(11:49):
like you know, like this This is the second year
of Derrick Henry and Lamar together and they went up
to Buffalo and the opener and put up a forty
piece and lost and.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
Then wind up losing that game. Yeah. No, this team,
we know it.

Speaker 6 (12:04):
We both watched them very very intently, and we know
the makings and the inner workings of that team and
the organization those players, and this would be this would
be an abysmal loss and abysmal season.

Speaker 5 (12:18):
If they don't win this game, Robin make the playoffs.

Speaker 6 (12:20):
And so I'm going out with my with my top
guns too. If there's no way, if he's seventy percent,
I'm not playing them if they don't win the game,
regardless to who's the quarterback. John Harbard has to be fired.

Speaker 5 (12:34):
I agree. I just think it's time. And he won
a Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
They've won a lot of games, but every year has
been disappointing. And Mike Tomlin too. Mike Tomlin is another
guy who enough with the finishing above five hundred record whatever.
They haven't won a playoff game since twenty eighteen. Dude,
that's a long time. You can't keep living off of
the one Super Bowl, which I'm not taking away from him.

Speaker 5 (13:00):
Or whatever.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
And it doesn't mean you can't go somewhere else and
and and be a new voice. And and when Tony
Dungee got fired in Tampa Bay and won an Indianapolis,
And it doesn't make you a bad coach, No, it doesn't.
It just means that the time here, everything has an
expiration date.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
Yeah, right, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
I was drinking the milk and then I realized it
was a little lumpy, and then I looked on the
date and I realized it had expired.

Speaker 5 (13:25):
If you, if it took you that long to realize,
then that's that's the real problem. I couldn't have I
couldn't imagine drinking lumpy milk.

Speaker 6 (13:36):
Am, I right, No, And that's the thing, Rob, You
just need a breath refresh as a new voice, a
new voice.

Speaker 5 (13:42):
Man.

Speaker 6 (13:43):
They're tired of hearing the same message. And how many
times can you change it with you still being authentic
to who you are?

Speaker 5 (13:48):
Right? And and that's where it is.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
And and John Harbaugh said they've had way too many
disappointments for you to feel good about.

Speaker 5 (13:56):
Every way you can be disappointed, Rob, I agree, it's crazy,
all right?

Speaker 3 (14:02):
Should the Ravens start Lamar Jackson over Snoop Huntley on
Sunday Night against Pittsburgh eight seven seven for a four
thirty four thirty seven. That's eight seven seven for the Herd.
We'll continue this conversation next with you.

Speaker 5 (14:20):
It is New Year's Day.

(15:05):

joining us in about ten minutes.

Speaker 5 (15:10):
Will do that.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
A lot still to get to in this final hour
of The Herd on New Year's Day. Hope you had
a great New Year's Eve, a safe one, And here
we are for you working hard for your entertainment dollar.
And also to wrap up the show, we're also Kerry
going to talk about the biggest sports highlight of twenty

(15:32):
twenty five.

Speaker 5 (15:32):
I think there's one that's head and shoulders above.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
You think there's only one. Yep, I think there's only one.
And it's not even close. I'm dead serious. And there
are a lot of things that happened is showed right
sports wise, what I really believe it's just one.

Speaker 5 (15:54):
Miami.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
Of course we could go back to that. It's thirteen.
Nothing to update you on the Oregon Texas Tech.

Speaker 6 (16:01):
Well, the game just started. For the team that had buyers,
they like to fall fall behind by two touchdowns and
then come back, so we'll see what happens. It's right
because Ohio State was down fourteen. Oh, exactly right, and
now here we go Texas Tech. Uh, down thirteen nothing,
down down thirteen, nothing on the move and it's fourth

(16:22):
and one here. It's a big, big play here.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
Uh, we're of the Miami. Let's just go back there.
Miami beating Ohio State good bad for college football. Just
you're okay with it? Yeah, you know, I'm okay with it.
I think oh that's a terrible, terrible call. What's that?

Speaker 5 (16:39):
Oh my god?

Speaker 3 (16:40):
I decided to do a little read option. But they
had like a wildcat situation with the but you knew,
you knew he wasn't getting there. I could see when
I saw it, right, he was not getting there.

Speaker 5 (16:49):
It's terrible. What are you doing? Sorry? Yeah? Did he
take it to the quarter? Was that the quarterback? Just anyway? Yeah,
that's that's not good.

Speaker 6 (16:59):
But talked about Miami and beating Ohio State yesterday and
is it good for football or bad for college football?

Speaker 5 (17:06):
And for me, I think we talked about it in
the first hour.

Speaker 6 (17:10):
I think for you know, Miami, you know there are
ten seed and there you know, it's an underdog situation.
They beat Ohio State and people look at that number
and say, oh, you know, Miami, Miami beating Ohio State's
bad because Ohio State's the brand and obviously had a
chance to repeat.

Speaker 5 (17:25):
But for me, I think it's great.

Speaker 6 (17:27):
I mean, you sell to teams that are lower rank
that they can go in and win these things and
beat the top teams, and so I'm okay with it.

Speaker 5 (17:35):
I know you got a little problem with it, though, Rob.

Speaker 8 (17:38):
I just.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
I think My problem is the way it's set up
and what are we doing with the regular season. Does
it matter in the old days, if you lost two
football games in college or done, your season was over.

Speaker 5 (17:50):
And now we're rewarding them.

Speaker 3 (17:51):
By making the playoffs bigger, right and expanding it to
let teams that didn't And I'm two losses, You say,
what's the difference between two and one? But in college
football was big right? Your season was over when you
lost your next game. In college football, that's what you're done. Yeah, yeah,
And now you're being rewarded because you've opened up the
field and you're gonna put in these situations. And the

(18:14):
other part is when you start looking and keep going like, okay,
the teams, the better teams who get the buys.

Speaker 5 (18:22):
Since in this new format the last two years are
now oh and five, something is there.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
It's not like somebody had to buy and they rolled
and nothing happened or nothing changed. Why are these teams
off to Texas Tech by It could be Owen six.
It looks like it's going to be Owen six. They
don't have.

Speaker 5 (18:40):
Any points here.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
We are on the third quarter right like that, Like
we can't ignore what harpered Lucy the Texas Tech all Right,
all right, Dezy, I can't find that anywhere.

Speaker 5 (18:55):
You can't find that show.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
No, I can't find that clip. Oh that clip of
him saying what Hopper Lucy?

Speaker 5 (19:03):
On on the on the internet.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
I don't I cannot understand why there's not one clip
of him saying that. He's just say it all the time.

Speaker 5 (19:11):
I don't know. I don't know. Rob.

Speaker 6 (19:13):
That's that's that's up for you to find the USC Chris,
you gotta find that for me, Okay, all right, I
need you to find Jesse from I Love Lucy saying yes,
what Hopper Lucy?

Speaker 5 (19:25):
Because I can't find it.

Speaker 8 (19:26):
But archival stuff is my fortee here I've been probably
finding somewhere, Thank you, buddy.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
But yeah, I just that you don't want the best
team to be knocked out, like if you're a league
or like.

Speaker 5 (19:40):
Do you Rob?

Speaker 6 (19:41):
You keep saying that Miami isn't a slouch of a team.
I mean Miami was considered at this point, they were
number two.

Speaker 5 (19:50):
Is the raining champ? Sure?

Speaker 3 (19:52):
They their biggest payroll, the biggest payroll. Uh, they travel
extremely well, a house people everywhere, Like those are the
schools you want to be involved going forward.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
And I'm just saying I'm not saying that.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
They can't be an upset occasionally or whatever, but oh
to five going to be owen six is worrisome.

Speaker 5 (20:14):
That's the problem. That's because nobody's Yeah, that's the problem,
I think.

Speaker 6 (20:17):
And we talked about it earlier again, you guys, if
you guys are just tuning in in the first in
the first hour, we talked about maybe the issue is
the receding of it and how they seed it because
Miami obviously if you look at them, they're not a
ten seed, right, so I think reseeding can be the
biggest issue here.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
But if you lose two games though, I mean, like,
like this is because expanding sometimes what.

Speaker 6 (20:42):
If you lost two games, what if you lost one
throughout the season, then you lose your conference championship. That's
the game, I know, But that those two games aren't
created equal, like you major your league championship and then
you I'm not saying that's that's not the case.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
But even in Ohio, Ohio State, they won all their
games and then they lost their league champions but that
was only one.

Speaker 5 (21:01):
That was only you know what I'm saying, So they
lost and in Ohio State. I don't want to.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
We could do revisionist history and now say they really
shouldn't have been the number one, I mean number two,
because they didn't play anybody in Indiana beat them in
the in the Big Ten championship or whatever.

Speaker 6 (21:19):
Man Oregon's trying to keep check the teching this game, Well,
I just gotta pick right.

Speaker 5 (21:23):
They keep going foot on fourth down? The ball? Was
that a fourth town?

Speaker 7 (21:26):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (21:28):
My goodness, what is going on? I don't know these coaches?

Speaker 3 (21:33):
Everything is mad now they play field position, trust your
defense the right?

Speaker 5 (21:39):
What are you doing?

Speaker 6 (21:43):
I mean it's not even like they're at the in
like that friend's thirty five yard there were nowhere Nowhereville?
Why right, rob g what's going on with this?

Speaker 7 (21:55):
Why if you're not gonna punt, then it aren't punted.
Tom Brady's I was throwing fifty yards and they're gonna
be a touchdown interception be one of the others, yes, right,
And he's like, I'm gonna throw a seven yard crossing
route that gets picked off.

Speaker 5 (22:07):
They get the ball back in midfield.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
You know what, I gotta admit, Brandon Staley did more
damage to football than I ever thought.

Speaker 5 (22:15):
You think he has that much credit that it's him.
I'm gonna blame Brandon Staley because he was the one
doing those crazy like I used to watch and go,
are you kidding me? Just out of touch? I remember
one what.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
They playing Kansas City. They could have beat Kansas City
here in LA. And he had like two or three
calls that were just and one was like fourth down
you know on their nine.

Speaker 5 (22:40):
Yeah, like weird, yeah, weird. And I'm like, you're gonna
give Patrick Mahomes and them the ball out to nine.
But they don't view it like that. Rob.

Speaker 7 (22:49):
They're like, no, we're gonna go for it and we're
gonna have first down at the thirteen is what.

Speaker 5 (22:52):
We're gonna do. We don't view it as we're gonna
give them the ball back. That's what they go for it.

Speaker 7 (22:56):
The analytics say yes, yeah, no. And now you see
that graph thick on the screen. It says, God, when
is it ever said punt. I've never seen on that graphic.
Fourth and three from this spot says punt. You know what,
It always says go for it. It's just like baseball.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
They don't want to bun anymore to move the runner
over and then guys hitting the double plays all the time,
am I right?

Speaker 5 (23:17):
It drives you.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
It's like first and second, nobody out and they don't
want to bunt the runner over and a guy hit
into a double and you're hitting into the shift, dudu.
I mean, I know that's changed, but but you know
what I mean, you're hitting into the shift like.

Speaker 5 (23:28):
They're playing you for that. I'm like, they didn't score.
How do you know what I mean? Like, what are
you doing here? Like man at first and second?

Speaker 3 (23:38):
No outs and then and then swing away ground ball
and shortstops gonna be a double play.

Speaker 5 (23:43):
I'm like, oh my god, Okay, crazy.

Speaker 3 (23:46):
All right, we are gonna talk with our man, Spencer
Tillman from Fox Sports. Uh, the college football analysts. We're
gonna do that again.

Speaker 5 (23:58):
We have them. Are we ready? Okay, We're gonna do that.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
Carrie talked to Spencer just about some of the stuff
we're talking about with college football and what is cool
maybe needs to be cleaned up and some of these ideas. Uh.
But but let's say this. Okay, So the big game
is today is Saturday, Niner Seahawks.

Speaker 5 (24:18):
Right, a huge game. Who do you like in that game? Man?

Speaker 6 (24:21):
It's for the number one seed, and obviously, I mean
it can be for the number one seed in the
NFC and winning the NFC West as well, which has
been a gauntlet this year. But both of those teams
have played out of their mind, I think for different reasons.
Seattle obviously defensively.

Speaker 5 (24:38):
Here's another Sam Donald game. I'm just it is it is.
I'm not even kidding you, and people think I'm too
hard on him. But the Mines.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
What happened in Minnesota last year the weason, He's not there.
You people could say, oh, well they had JJ McCarthy.
You got a quarterback who did what he did last year? Carrie,
how many times has he changed teams? After you take
it team and go fourteen into and put up the
numbers and that team was rolling. Do you remember they
carried that guy into the locker room after I can

(25:08):
remember with game it was late in the season. This
video of the Sam Darnold celebration where they carry him
into the locker room and then they don't sign a
back week sixteen that I think that do you remember
that Week sixteen?

Speaker 5 (25:22):
He think?

Speaker 3 (25:23):
Then he watched the bed against the Lions for the
division on the line, right they're in the red zone
four or five times in the first half, I remember, can't.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
Get it in.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
Then he has a terrible playoff game and because of
the fires. Remember the game was played uh in Arizona,
remember that the whole thing. But anyway, neutral site, he's
terrible in that game against the Rams, and that's where
people go, I can't trust him. Now here's another game.

(25:54):
Another year is the second year where he has a
chance to win the division.

Speaker 6 (25:59):
And put your team and I mean and very similar
situations in similar teams as well, Am I right?

Speaker 5 (26:06):
I mean the Vikings team last year.

Speaker 6 (26:07):
Obviously the Vikings scored a lot of points, but that
defense was one of the top defenses in the in
the in the NFL, and the same could be said
about the Seattle Seahaws next year. I mean, one of
the most feared defenses in the league this year. And
so for Sam donald Man, it's just and it's always
been about him not being not turning the ball over
because he plays well in spots, even in games when
he has turnovers, he plays well, and then all of

(26:29):
a sudden he just snaps back to throwing these weird turnovers.
The interception. So if he can take care of the ball.
I think Seattle has the team to to get it
done and win it and win that division.

Speaker 9 (26:39):
But if if, if he doesn't, if he doesn't, if
he if he just say those couple of picks you
saw the first half because because I go back to
the first half of the Rams game, that narrative was
buzzing because they were like, while am I right, Like,
oh my god, here we go again?

Speaker 3 (26:57):
Uh Sam Donald. That was a big spot for him,
And that's why I think this is another big spot
for him. They has to respond. And if you're Seattle again,
they didn't give them like some monster contrary.

Speaker 5 (27:08):
And that's the difference.

Speaker 6 (27:09):
And I think what you're saying, Rob, with Minnesota, I'm
sure they could have matched that number. And the fact
that they didn't match the number they had got in Seattle,
thank you. It wasn't like army.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
It wasn't like, oh my god, they gave them two
hundred million dollars. We're not doing that. Okay, right, we're
not doing that right. But it was like, Rob, g
was it a one year plus one? It was like
a one plus one. It wasn't even a full two.
And this one for Seattle and Seattle. I'm not sure Rob,
you got that. I think I got it right here

(27:39):
right now. It was marketed as a three years, one
hundred right, but yeah, when you pull the onion back,
you pull it back, you look at it, and it's
one year.

Speaker 5 (27:50):
Of course, this season big number.

Speaker 7 (27:52):
And then if they really wanted to get out of it,
because there's no other like guaranteed salary beyond twenty twenty five,
how about that, Hey, you got to take some cap
hit obviously, No, no, buddy, you don't got to pay
a lot of money.

Speaker 5 (28:07):
Ry they got they gotta fail safe setting place. Yes,
we're just a one year like coming off for a year.
And his numbers were crazy last year it.

Speaker 6 (28:17):
Was and obviously you just said that you hit them.
Why those two games that mattered were bad and now
he's got another chance. And we saw you referenced it.
You talked about the Ram game on X it was loud.

Speaker 5 (28:31):
Riot.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
And then you know, I hear people like after they
came back and win, and then they go, well, I
guess you could stop that narrative on No, no, we're
not stopping the narrative on Sam Donald. Okay, and they
did win the game. You give him credit. You give
him credit. He won the game. I'm not taking away
from but really like the whole idea that if he

(28:53):
has a stinker in this one, that people are going
to be like, well, he won the Rams game, so
he's good. No, no, no, he's he's got that with him.
And I think he needs to win a couple not
I'm not saying he has to win the game super
Bowl for people to start believing or trust.

Speaker 5 (29:10):
What do you think it is? Then? What do you
think he needs for this playoff run in particular?

Speaker 3 (29:14):
Or I just think if they if they beat San
Francisco and win a division, win a division, and then
win a couple of games, you know, like like like
get to the NFC Championship game. I think people I
think that we're looking people go Sam Donald, I mean
he turned his career around, was a bus with the Jets. Yeah,
and now he's in the NFC Championship. I think that's real.

Speaker 5 (29:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (29:36):
No, I think that because there is a progression when
it comes to NFL quarterbacks and actually get into that
big game. I mean we can talk about the forty
nine ers, other team, right, they had a quarterback that
got a chance after a legend got hurt. He stepped
in and was having remarkable, you know, regular seasons and
would have playing outs in the playoffs. And you know
what that quarterback is, right, that's Steve Young. But I

(29:59):
mean the question, I mean, the narrative around him early
was he couldn't win the big game and a lot
of people forget about that. It took him years and
especially replacing such a game that point. Come on, Yeah,
and so you have that situation happened, and the progression
of that you have to take some lumps and losses,
and he's already taken his and now it's time for
him to, of.

Speaker 5 (30:20):
Course correct take that next step absolutely, Rob g.

Speaker 7 (30:24):
I just got a question for you, Rob, because I
want to make sense of this whole situation, and you
just went for what thirteen minutes talking about Sam Donald
and he's got to get it done. I've never been
a believer in Sam Ronald McDonald and he's gonna turn
into a pumpkin. But Day one listeners of the Odd
Couple Week Nights forty seven is in VIM Eastern Carrie,

(30:44):
you were here on Monday. Yeah, did he not say
I don't care about Kyle Shanahan holding this team together
in s that Francisco, if he doesn't win in the playoffs,
get to.

Speaker 5 (30:53):
A super Bowl. I don't care.

Speaker 6 (30:55):
Well.

Speaker 5 (30:55):
These two teams in order for one of these things.

Speaker 7 (30:58):
To happen, are gonna play each other on Saturday and
could conceivably play each other in the playoffs. So you
can't have both of them. It's got to be Super
Bowl or bust.

Speaker 5 (31:08):
Which one?

Speaker 3 (31:09):
Is it?

Speaker 5 (31:09):
Rob j in the world according to Party?

Speaker 3 (31:15):
But no, Senahan's story is different from he keeps getting
to these big and Rober, you had the stats. I
know you don't have a handy, but the stats in
the fourth quarter of those games, and people try not
to give them credit for uh the loss that the

(31:35):
Falcons had to the Patriots. I'm sorry you do, Rober.
You give us those numbers. How you know that we
use it a lot because I took one search in
my email and I had edit care handy real numbers.

Speaker 5 (31:46):
All right.

Speaker 7 (31:47):
So Kyle Shannan has been in the Super Bowl three
times once is an OC in Atlanta, twice as a
head coach with the Niners. He has blown a twenty
eight to three lead as in OC, the largest in
Super Bowl history, and he has blown two separate ten
point fourth quarter leads. Those would be tied for the
second largest blown lead in Super Bowl history. That's what

(32:08):
he has on his resum. And that's not even your favorite.
That this is Rob's favorites stat right here. Between the
three Super Bowl once as the OC, twice as the
head coach, Kyle Shanahan's teams have been outscored a combined
fifty eight to twelve.

Speaker 5 (32:23):
In the fourth quarter every eight to twelve? Hello, is
this on? And here's my thing? When he was OC.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
Yeah, the reason he got that job was the job
that he had done right right when he got the
head coaching job. I would have rescinded that after they
lost that Super I would have pulled it back. Here
was the problem. Julio Jones makes an unbelievable catch on
third down right to set him up first and ten
at to twenty two.

Speaker 5 (32:52):
Twenty two.

Speaker 3 (32:54):
Kerry, cut the ball, Kerry, you run the ball three times,
don't fumble it, don't three just go forward a you
have a shot for a chip shot as a field
goal right and you might have picked up in three runs.
You might have picked up five or six yards. You're
at the twenty one or I mean at the sixteen

(33:17):
or the fifteen or whatever. Okay, Also you eat the clock.
Go back and watch. I'm telling you of you're a
football fan, go back and watch the end of that
game on the play clock. They're starting plays with twenty
five seconds still left.

Speaker 5 (33:33):
On the play clock. Just no awareness.

Speaker 3 (33:37):
Make it run all the way down before I start
my play. That gives me, That gives less time for
Tom Brady if they were to get the ball back.
You always have to be thinking in those terms. You
don't pass the ball in that spot. I don't care
what you did all year. There's winning football, and there's football.

(33:58):
It's winning time.

Speaker 5 (33:59):
And we talked.

Speaker 6 (34:00):
I told you those guys like Shanahan and McVeigh sometimes
they're too smart for their own good.

Speaker 3 (34:05):
Yes, instead of going hey, all we need to do
is we need to run the football. And instead there's
a holding, there's a sack. You're out of field goal range.
Howe I know, I know said the blank should have
had a heart attack right on the sideline. Remember he

(34:27):
came down ready for it was his fault.

Speaker 5 (34:29):
I blame him. I don't blame going down there. I
know I remember that too. That's funny.

Speaker 7 (34:36):
Jumped on the phone called Robert Crafted on the other box,
I heard, we're going to Miami tonight.

Speaker 5 (34:42):
Tell me where the Strip Mall is. No, he didn't
say that. I hope he didn't say that.

Speaker 6 (34:46):
He said till he said, he said, he told he
said till Wayne to be a live waiting for him.

Speaker 5 (34:50):
So wait what it was? Exactly through another interception, Texas
Tech Indian Zone.

Speaker 7 (34:54):
Oh my goodness, gracious, really, yes, Carrie, who'd you pick
to make the nation the champiship game?

Speaker 6 (35:01):
Uh to a recent national championship game? I had Miami,
and I still haven't looked at the other member.

Speaker 5 (35:08):
It wasn't, Yes it was. It wasn't Texas, Texas, No way,
no way, it wasn't.

Speaker 6 (35:13):
It was.

Speaker 5 (35:16):
No Carry's like see that's why he couldn't remember. I
couldn't remember the other one. I knew it was Miami though, right, Miami? Okay?
All right, wow, I was going to say the one
that I had that advance that made it through so far.

or robb G If you guys want to join in too,
it's cool, robb G.

Speaker 5 (38:17):
You you have what we need.

Speaker 3 (38:18):
Okay, here's mine with I'm just gonna go to mine first,
do that without question. I don't care what anybody says.
He said, there's nothing else that competes. There's nothing else
that competes with this.

Speaker 5 (38:29):
Here we go.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
They y'all.

Speaker 5 (38:32):
Drill, don't I field? Indeed?

Speaker 3 (38:35):
Good?

Speaker 6 (38:37):
No way go Rojas.

Speaker 5 (38:43):
Yeah, that was a big one, Cherry.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
What if he doesn't bail out the Dodgers? Remember that's
a two billion dollar bust. Yes, that was one out
nobody on in the ninth inning in Toronto, right Toronto,
winning by one run. Miguel Rojas of all people to
hit a home run in that spot with Otani on deck,

(39:08):
like seriously, and the pitcher got in trouble because you
don't want to pitch from behind. You gotta know you
gotta go after Rojas have to three and two. He
knows you gotta carry you. No, baseball, dude, you walking
me with Otani on deck? No, no, you gotta throw
the ball over the plate. I'm gonna be ready. He's
a Major League play baseball player. He's old, but he's

(39:30):
exactly throw the ball over the plate, and I know
it's coming. Yeah, dude, Yeah, save the bacon of Otani
who didn't play well, Mookie Betts, didn't didn't hit well,
Freddie Free like like that was going to be a
big bus. Oh my god, how did the Dodgers lose
that World Series? With all his firepower, all these great

(39:50):
you know, rotation and pitching, all these guys they got
they got was a two billion dollar and Miguel Rojas hit.

Speaker 5 (39:57):
That big home That's That's a good one for me. God,
I mean for me.

Speaker 6 (40:00):
The biggest sports highlight from twenty twenty five. I don't
know if it's a highlight or a low light, but
they fit in the same space that Luca Doncas trade
to the La Lakers was one of the biggest stories
obviously twenty twenty five, and it.

Speaker 5 (40:13):
Was a low light now because you don't play defense.

Speaker 6 (40:16):
See, but look, I've I've watched him players my team
for years and I told I told people, I said, yeah,
he's gonna score, he's gonna it's gonna be flash, he's
gonna have fun.

Speaker 5 (40:24):
But can he play enough defense and help that team win.

Speaker 3 (40:27):
It's still tough to see. Yeah, it's bad. I don't
think it's gonna happen.

Speaker 7 (40:33):
Rob g Usc, Chris, y'all got any which I was
torn between two and Carrie took the one I was
thinking of, but the other one that immediately came to mind.
This is another negative. But it okay, But the sports
world should your Sanders falling in the NFL draft?

Speaker 5 (40:47):
Okay?

Speaker 7 (40:48):
That is that entire defined sports media coverage and NFL coverage.

Speaker 8 (40:54):
Yep, for ever, it was still draft night. It's mel
Kiper losing his cool, losing everything.

Speaker 3 (41:00):
That was like Mel Kuiper for a guy who's gotten
so many wrong, like gotten me wrong.

Speaker 5 (41:06):
I don't like mail Kiper. Oh, but you're the beef
male Kuiper. I know I'm joking, but you know what
I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (41:12):
Like he was like, like they don't know what they're
like like everybody in football, he knows what nobody else
does like you didn't get you haven't gotten every pick, right,
So let's not act like it's exact science, and it's not.

Speaker 7 (41:24):
And there were people don't even watch football who knew
about that story that they're like, oh, man, there's this
kid from Colorado and he's supposed to be drafted. He's
on day three and he hasn't been drafted yet and
they're breaking through on ABC local television, right, or watch
him in the NFL draft he has not been taken
yet and where I picked one twenty seven, Right, that's true?

Speaker 5 (41:42):
What you all right?

Speaker 8 (41:43):
I mean, it's it's just so hard to beat that
world series. It's probably the best world series had a
long time.

Speaker 1 (41:48):
It was.

Speaker 8 (41:50):
This might be another low light for me, but just
everything around that day of what happened in the NBA
against the arrest of Chauncey Billups, Terry Rogier, the FBI indictments,
like because I feel like once that moment hit our
entire relationship between what we do and what we watch
on TV and sports gambling, which had slowly but surely

(42:10):
been encroaching more and more into the space that that
we had to question everything about that that relationship.

Speaker 5 (42:17):
After that moment. Yeah, Chris, that's a great point, BROB.
Weren't you tired with Chauncy?

Speaker 7 (42:20):
You know what you said?

Speaker 5 (42:21):
Yeah? Yeah, you and you hang out together.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
About I worked in Detroit when Chauncey won a championship
in two thousand four.

Speaker 5 (42:32):
Way that tight like that at the house. No, never
at that, you know what I mean. Like it's like
suddenly after that everything started to get questioned.

Speaker 2 (42:42):
I mean, and and and.

Speaker 5 (42:43):
That's the scale of it. And then the other thing
with you know, this is not like just on basketball.

Speaker 3 (42:48):
You're talking about fake tables and mirrors, like really really
set sitting you know what I mean.

Speaker 8 (42:54):
That's a sitting NBA coach in the pocket of the mafia.
What else are you they asking him to do? And
then and then we know, uh, every week in the NFL,
all we see trending. Every Sunday is rigged.

Speaker 3 (43:07):
And the NFL script you see it every time there's
some play or something and people lose money.

Speaker 5 (43:12):
Uh, people go crazy over it. I don't know if
you saw it last night? Who was it? The Knicks
and uh Jalen hit a meaningless three and and it messed.

Speaker 3 (43:22):
Up to spread all right? It is a herd, right,
here on Fox Sports Radio. Check out the odd couple
later on tonight
