(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Greetings and welcome inside
the Jason Smith Show with my bas friend Mike Harmon.
Hey buddy, and I'll tell you I can't wait. I'm
not gonna say when, because it's gonna be something you
just have to tune in for the entire night, But
I really I can't wait to do Berman announcing the

(00:45):
Lori Lightfoot story with the Bears from earlier today. I'm
not gonna say when, but I really I've been practicing
all day. As soon as I saw the story, I said,
this is perfect, this is absolutely perfect. How would Berman
announce the Lori Lightfoot story? And it was like it
was the entire world has been unlocked me like I
went in the Cave of Wonders, like I was a Laddin.
I came out with this is the answer, and I'm

(01:07):
on the other side where I've got at least an
eighteen minute monologue prepared of why she needs to beat it.
Be quiet and stop trying to play fully ball with
everybody about everything because you know what in Chicago and
and working baby, Welcome inside. It is the Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon getting on Twitter at how about

(01:28):
a fresca Mike at Swollen Dome. But clearly, look the
game going on right now getting all the attention. The
Bucks and Nets are at halftime, the Bucks with a
pretty solid fifty nine lead. They played very well in
both quarters. Remember beginning of the playoffs, I picked the
Bucks to go to the NBA Finals, just so we

(01:49):
understand that I picked the Bucks and tonight so far
they are playing well. Gone is the the indecision and
and lack of being able to have a defensive focus.
You got honest with nineteen and Middleton with nineteen. They're
getting everything they need and they haven't shut Kevin Durant down.
He's got thirteen and seven, but still Durant just six

(02:10):
out of fifteen from the floor, and he and Harton
have not been able to take over the game even
though Harton does look a lot better. He looks more
like he's back to being James Harden. They've not been
able to take over the game like you would have
expected them to. This is a big first half here
by the Bucks. Much more energy from the Bucks coming
out in this one. You mentioned Middleton five or eight,
four or five from three point range for his nineteen points.

(02:33):
That's the guy they need to be aggressive and to
keep putting the ball up. Holiday with eleven shots are
twelve shots in the first half as well, so he
was fairly passive. So it's good and the honest you
know what. The greatest number you can see a zero
in the three point attempts column, which is always good.
He's three of seven from the line. So those woes continue.
But you know with Brooklyn they got it down to

(02:54):
four and there was a good surge. You see James Harden,
the shot has come back to degree fourteen in the
first half. They need to find how to get Green
and Harris to make shots. Harris did make a three,
but alas it came too late after the red light
had come on for him. So those secondary players really

(03:15):
are gonna need to step up beyond Blake Griffin if
they're gonna keep this game rolling because Kevin Durant eventually
has to take a minute off, doesn't he Yeah, but buddy,
he missed. He missed two minutes in the first half.
Like right at the end, come on, you're tripping on
your tongue, man, get off. Yeah, but buddy, that's not
gonna happen because the defensive player of the Year is,

(03:36):
you know, the first team All Team NBA defensive player.
He's gonna shut down Bruce Brown and Green and Harris.
Those guys are trying to score. Durant once again, it's like,
what are we doing here? He wanted to challenge at
least in the press conference. Yeah, Landry Shammon, forget it,

(03:57):
He's not gonna score. None of those guys are gonna score.
At a Landry Shannon reference, he got two free throws
in the first half and nine minutes to play, So
you got that going for you? Uh so again right now,
I picked the Bucks to go to the NBA Finals
in the East with a ten point lead over the
Nets with ten minutes to go on the third quarter.

(04:17):
But I will from that could change. Yeah, well, look
in breaking this game down. Look, it's been great for
the Bucks. But this is one of those games where
you watch and you go, Okay, the Bucks are doing
everything they need to do, right, They've they've battened down everything. Look,
they're not shooting great from three point range, but neither
of the nets. So okay, But the Bucks feel like
they are playing exactly how they want to play, and

(04:38):
the Nets feel like they haven't really started yet. Like
we like, we're still kind of feeling our way here,
staying close, and it's and it's still a game that
is in doubt. It's a ten point game, and it's
early in the third and you know they're gonna make
a run. I'm just watching this and I just feel like, Hey,
the Bucks are on top of everything, but the Nets
really haven't quite started yet, and and and they're kind
of just hanging out now. And and that's why I'm

(04:58):
kind of afraid for the Buck. You know, the second
half here, Well, there there is that that side of it, right,
because we have seen the offense go cold, not quite
to the well, almost to the level of Philadelphia. Uh.
At least here you've got several guys that want a shot,
probably ill advised shots oftentimes. I'm looking at you again, honest,

(05:19):
but you've at least guys that will put the ball up,
So I'm with you. I think if they get to
hang around, the danger is that suddenly the surge and
the slim reaper takes over, and it'll be curious to
see what kind of adjustments you at least see in
a few defensive possessions. While Janice is not necessarily on
under rant there there's a little bit of stalking now

(05:41):
and again, um, but some standing around trying to buy
some seconds. Remember when we talk with Rick Buker a
while back about the minutes played by by Lebron James,
and he goes, yeah, but watch him. He's cag and
he'll steal thirty seconds here on a couple of possessions
in a minute where he's kind of standing around and
letting something else developed, and then he gets the ball

(06:03):
with like four seconds left. It's like he's being smart
like that. I actually watched Madeline play soccer now and
she she's getting learning to do some of that just inherently.
All right. I can catch catch a little bit of
a breather before I have to do a dead sprint
to go cover for a defender or whatever else. So, um,
you know, only the great ones now wait and wait.
And so after the games went, when when they asked

(06:25):
Madeline how she did? Does she always give her stats
to everybody like Lebron does? They said, listen thoughts on
goal today and and and to assist. But I'm not
saying I had the perfect game? Is she doing that
or no? Not nuts. You know what's funny though, is
car rides home. The only stats that she'll, uh, she'll
give me are the passes that she thought she could
have put on someone's foot a little bit better. She's

(06:47):
so critical, it's it's it's it's bad at times. So
it's like, yeah, you had a couple of goals, you
set up another one, and you had a couple of
great corners. But Dad, you know there were a couple
of that if I if I got knit there a
second earlier, or I had made this move and gotten
a little bit of free It's like, all right, I
love the perfectionist GNA, but sometimes you gotta wratchet it

(07:10):
down a little bit, and your your teammates have to
make plays to not to say, you know, she's dominant,
and Lebron makes the plays and nobody else on the
team does. No, that's what you're telling me. Madeline makes
the place and nobody else on the team. No. What
what I'm what I'm saying is she hates herself if
she doesn't put people in the best position. That unlike

(07:31):
the Lebron speeches. But but yeah, I'm watching Kevin Durant
here and there's possessions where he's just walking to the corner.
He's just standing there. Here's this is my possession. Off Harden.
You're on the court for a reason, Go take care
of it. Uh So, it's a nine point lead right
now for Milwaukee, six eight minutes to go in the

(07:53):
third quarter. Meanwhile, we had absolute history today in Major
League Baseball, and well it it's history. It's not quite
history the team that made this achievement wants, but still
it is history because the Diamondbacks played a day game
today and well, today went for the Diamondbacks just about
is how most of the games recently have gone for

(08:15):
the Diamondbacks. Take a listen, first pitch for Alto on
the ground is short backheaded by Dubon throws the first
in time and the game is over and the misery
continues for the diamond Backs. They lose to San Francisco
ten to three, their fourteenth and second of lost time
the franchise records, and their twenty three straight on the road,

(08:37):
a new major League record, league all League records. Diamondbacks
Radio Network on the call, twenty three straight losses on
the road. They are now two and twenty eight overall
in their last thirty games. Tory Lavello, manager said after
the game today, I'm up at like three and four
in the morning trying to figure something out if I

(08:58):
could have done this, what we need to do. Uh,
this is some kind of futility for the diamond Backs. Again,
the likes which we had never seen in Major League
Baseball history, breaking the old record that had been held
by one of the teams, the nineteen sixty three New
York Mets. Not the sixty two Mets, who were the
worst team ever, No, but the sixty three Mets, who
were just about as bad. Three straight losses in a

(09:21):
row on the road for the diamond Backs, and I
mean they are two and in their last thirty games.
They're only two wins in the last thirty games. They
have a nine to win over the Cardinals and they
had a six five ten inning win over the Mets.
That's been it. They've won twice since May. That has

(09:43):
been it for the diamond Backs. And now for the
diamond Backs. Figure, okay, well, does the the does the
schedule help them out a bit? Nope? They play the Dodgers,
they play the Brewers, they play the Potraits. You're playing
some of the best teams in the National League. Still
moving on here, there really is no break for the
hours on the Diamonbacks. But I can turn this into
a positive Mike car because I think this might work

(10:04):
right here, that could I could now I actually got
this idea. I heard about this. There was a when
I was younger, when I was like, I think it
was like ten or eleven years old, the Devil's were
the worst team in hockey, right The New Jersey Devils
were just terrible. And they got pretty good in the
mid eighties, and of course they went on one Stanley
Cups in the nineties, but there was they had a
really long losing streak and I remember that there there

(10:26):
was a guy on the radio that said, Hey, listen,
we're gonna start some today. Everybody's gonna get healthy, We're
gonna do the Devil's diet. You only get to eat
if they win, and if they tie, you can have
a snack. And I said, hey, that's pretty good. So
the diamond Back Now listen, this would be a dangerous
diet because you're talking about eating twice in the last
thirty days. But there's gotta be something that's fasting on

(10:46):
a whole other level. Yeah, I mean yeah, but still, dude,
you can't go like ten days or twelve days in
a row without eating. It's gonna be very difficult. A
lot of supplements, vitamins, vitamin supplements, and a lot a
lot of water, a lot of just eat drinking. But
there's gotta be something where you could, like if we
can do like some kind of Diamondbacks diet, right, Like,

(11:08):
when they take the lead, you can eat, right, but
when they're losing, you can't. So if they're leading, that's
when you can eat, and then when they stop leading,
you can't eat anymore until the next time they lead.
And then maybe you're you know, you know, they're leading
in games here and there. I mean not a lot,
but at least then you're getting where you're eating every
I don't know, every three days. That's not healthy either.

(11:28):
But none of this is something you should do, by
the way, just let me throw that out there. None
of this this is entertainment purposes only. But at least
if you do it something like that, if hey, lead
off home run, boom, you're just you're just that, you're
just killing food out of the refrigerator. Man, let's eat now.
Let's eating now, the bottom of the first that's coming
up up, gotta stop to run home or not leading anymore.
And maybe that could work. It turned into a pie.

(11:49):
And then look and see you've got a lot of
skinny minies, a lot of people going, hey, I feel good.
I took off all that COVID weight and I'm feeling
pretty great right now. It's a Diamondbacks diet. It's working.
I have not heard the term skinny minis some time.
I did see this from from Bob Nightingale, our buddy
earlier USA today on Twitter. You recognize since the would

(12:10):
be no hitter of Madison Bumgarner and the actual no
hitter of John means you have the Diamondbacks and the
Orioles haven't won a road game. You want to talk
about foster and deals and and going down to the crossroads.
Are you kidding me? My god, think about that? Hey
we got no hitter. Yeah, you're never gonna win another

(12:33):
road game? What the hell happened here? Uh? Yeah? So
it is next level stuff. But I like your idea.
Try to be creative. You know, you don't have to
sit on a billboard whatever the level they would call
that on a billboard, like the little standing there until
they win a game. No, that's good. The food thing,

(12:53):
because you could probably find plenty of folks that want
to sponsor along along ride, right because the beginnings that
they do get to eat, they're gonna eat mass quantities.
So all your family style Italian restaurants and other things
are going to get on board lasagn Yeah, because we

(13:14):
have a two nothing lead. I like that. And not
only that, so I give you a solution for this.
I also know how this started and how you're never
gonna do this again, right, because I also know what
to blame, right, I also I certainly know what to blame. Right.
What was the last Diamondbacks win on the road? I
ask you this because I know you know the answer.
The last Yes, So how about you stop bleeping complaining

(13:40):
about this? Should be a no hitter. I can't believe
it's not a no hitter. It should be. We want
seven and nine. No, no, now, you know no, don't
complain diamond Backs. And now look what happened. Now you
haven't won in the road since that bum Gardner game,
since you've talked about all this should be a no
hitter and this should be nine. I don't understand. Now
the baseball god said out listen, you know what. I
have no time for you. So how about you do
you lose like the next twenties and mud games on

(14:00):
the road. Don't do it. That's what it was. It
goes all the way back to that you stopped. Really,
so really it's it's partially my fault. Okay. I I
thought that ruling sucked too, right, you did? You did you?
You said right after you thought it would still do right,
and now we did it live live on the radio.
I said, I said it, Then I say it now

(14:20):
you change the rules. No, you didn't change the rules.
Look what you've done to the Diamondbacks. Man, Look what
you did. You came on side, you put it out
in the universe, and Diamondbacks are all complained. You were
complaining a bad Look what happened. Look, this is your fault.
This really is your fault. Had you just said I'm
the leader of the band. Had you just said, hey,
you know what, Hey bum gardner, Oh you know that's

(14:41):
too bad. Really, the rules are nine innings because baseball
games are nine innings. So that they changed the rules.
They made it a seven they made it a seven
inning rules official game. If they were dope, which is
stupid anyway, that that's a whole other problem. But but
if a guy could, look, I'll take the player for
the rain. He doesn't get to know, hitter. Your rains rain,

(15:01):
rain is rain happened. You go but you but you
changed the rule. It's different. It doesn't look what you did.
You opened up the portal. You're like Loki man, You're
like coming in, You're like the guy. And if I
could go through what you've done, that's great. I need
to grow my hair long and just have that snarky
look with my hands outstretched like he does in every scene, like, hey,

(15:22):
what do you want from me? That's that's gonna be
my uh beat my post. That might actually be my
first tattoo. Loki with his arms extended, like what do
you want from me, I do like that. I got
a Dan Fogelberg reference in in the first segment of
the show as well. I'm just a living legacy and
the leader of the band Twitter and out about a Fresca.

four the buck fifty seven over the nets, five and
a half to go in the third quarter. More on

that's discovered dot com slash yes. Nilson report limitations they
do apply well right now. In the NBA third quarter
Milwaukee in Brooklyn, it is still a nine point lead

(17:09):
for the Bucks, seventy two sixty three, two and a
half to go on the third. It's kind of been
a back and forth game here. Uh, no team really
getting a big advantage so far here since the break.
But still I just can't escape that feeling that the
Bucks feel like we're playing really, really well right now.
It's all just gotta keep doing what we're doing. In
the nets say don't worry, we got something for you coming. Uh,

(17:29):
maybe maybe in the fourth quarter we got something coming
for you. Don't you worry about it. I just I
just feel it through the television set in my car,
and I feel it. Janice and Middleton both at twenty
one holiday adding seventeen and then you look for the nets. Well,
it's who you would expect. Dran's up to twenty one
shot attempts, thirty one minutes played, so they did find

(17:51):
him a couple of minutes in each of these in
the second and third quarters. So that's good. So in
theory of full run here in the fourth order to
come and James Harden right behind him in minutes played,
looking as you said, a little more spry. So yeah,
maybe a barrage is there. Maybe one of these secondary
players find some confidence because it seems to be lacking

(18:14):
and only three shot attempts from the bench right now
for the nets, it is all on the backs of
the five starters. So we'll keep you updated on this throughout.
It's what we do here. Uh, sixty three to twelve
to go in the third quarter. Now before we get
to a big story out of the NBA. Uh, maybe
the best possible news in the world came in today.

(18:34):
And I mean really, I mean, you know, Pat, you
know past the fact that everybody's gonna be immortal. I mean,
this is the best news you could possibly have. Jacob
de Gram is okay. De Gram is okay. They gave
him a barrage of tests and he's gonna be all right.
They haven't put him on the injured list. They're going
to monitor him. He can get his next start. There's
no damage, no nothing. These injuries have all been unrelated

(18:56):
to each other, which I go. He's been heard four times,
man Mona, take care of the guy. But right now
everything is okay and de Gram could make his next start.
They can hold him out for a bit, hold him,
it doesn't matter. But to Gram is okay, my harm.
And that is outstanding news that a really is well.
It is from Major League Baseball because we like records.

(19:17):
It's good. It's good for you because psychologically you need
every little advantage. With the Mets Jets Nick's triumvirate that
you run with every every little victory is it's not
a small one. It is celebrated with the amounts of
cheese and um caffeinated sparkly beverages. But it's all all good,

(19:40):
uh for for your mets, And I'm still just nervous
that while they didn't find anything yet, that that he
just is hurt. I mean, he's like an NBA player
or maybe uh like Madeline always laughs at men's soccer team.
Why's that guy on the ground again, I don't know. Well,
a lot of instrateam so that's okay. I don't think

(20:01):
the Grama is coming out of the game for strategic reasons.
Keep going, keep rolling, keep rolling. You're not selling it,
yelled Louder. Yeah, I mean for the Graham, it's just
to that point of and I think you encapsulated it
well last night. It's every start you're holding your breath, going,

(20:25):
are we going to get through five, six, seven, whatever,
unscathed to where it's not he's leaving because of discomfort
in any number of body parts at this point, and
that's the scary part. I would still have him skip
a starter or two, but I am not a doctor
if were trying to play one here on the radio.

(20:45):
And also I'm not a guy trying to make history,
which is really going to mess with this whole thing.
As as much as you'd like to say, hey, I'm
going to take care of my body and do what's
best for the second half of the season, right, because
we should be competitive and my starts are gonna mean
that much more if we get into a playoff scenario.

(21:07):
But you're also looking at history when you keep getting
getting compared to all these all time grades and you're
dusting them in these comparisons. There's the Grom and look
at the gap between him and Bob Gibson and facts
or whatever else. It feeds the ego, right, I mean,
come on, you got when when most of the stuff

(21:27):
you read, if you're a professional athlete, what do you
pay more attention to the guy that slights you, the
guy that didn't like the pitch selection on a two
two count as opposed to yeah, you eventually got the strikeout.
But you know, nit picking is all around. See, he
wasn't as efficient with that at bad It might have
been better and gotten a kind of stuff you Mode

(21:48):
and Kershaw and players of that ILK all that. How
we know it's true in the NBA and all. Now
it's funny you mentioned because I'm gonna throw that you
and I got thinking about this. Someone brought up the
big shock quote about when he was playing how would
you describe your game? And he said, I'm the m
d most dominant ever, right Like, he couldn't say I'm
better than Wilt, I'm better than but I'm dominating games.

(22:09):
I'm the most dominant NBA player ever. Uh. Jacob deGrom
right now is the most dominant player in all of sports,
in all of sports, he is the most dominant player.
What he is doing in baseball is better than what
anybody else is doing in the NFL, dominating games, better
what anybody else is doing in the NBA, better than

(22:30):
k D, better than Yokich, better than Brady, better than Mahomes.
What he is doing is more dominant than what any
other player is doing in their respective sport. That's how
well he is playing. I mean, when you say, oh boy, Dean,
no that you look at, there's nobody as dominant, is it?
When you talk is someone playing as well another sports
Jaob deGrom, They're not. They simply are not. He is
the most dominant player in sports right now? That you

(22:55):
like that? Right? Yeah? Well, it's normally normally there's very
very easy ways to pick apart set arguments. I would
I would look at Kevin Durant and what we've seen
from him as perhaps the other guy you'd you'd be
looking at in these terms. But the NFL, there's Yeah,

(23:18):
here's the thing with with pictures. They get to the
run to show, right. We do it with quarterbacks to
a degree. But you're still gonna be beset by holding penalties,
miss blocks and drop balls, which is not completely on you.
As a picture you have control. So yeah, I think
it's a fail proof argument for you right now that

(23:42):
that's really well done, unassailable. Now you can't you can't
even question that, will ever be able to say that
he is the big He is the most dominant player
in all of sports. I mean, I guess Simone Biles
is better. Oh but is she better real you? I
don't know. And now she's running around with the good

(24:03):
on her, that's yeah. But de Graham's hitting four three two,
So I think that gives it to him over Simone Biles.
That's what I think. De gram number one, Simone Biles
number two. That's fine, all right? Who's that? Who else
is on the Metal Stare seven seven on Fox? Who's Third? America?

(24:23):

So we got a brand new coach killer out here

(25:06):
and his name is Luca don Sage. Rick Carlyle parting
ways with the Mavericks after thirteen years including an NBA title.
This on the heels of Donnie Nelson leaving after spending
the last forty five years helping to run the Mavericks
and now it's Luca don Sich coach killer. Hey, make
no mistake, he is exerting his influence and he knows

(25:29):
how powerful he is. He knows this is the most
powerful he's ever been and likely his power is going
to grow. Remember when he talked about not liking the
playing games, it was all filled with because we're seventh,
and this is the kind of year we're having and
we're seventh, and we're seventh, basically saying I need more
help because Porzingis ain't it. We don't hang out off
the court and none of this happens. They just have

(25:49):
a very professional relationship. Porzingis is not very good and
not as good as they thought he was going to be.
The Mavericks go out, Donnie Nelson goes here, goes Rick Carlyle.
Coach killer. Okay, he knows his influences this big and
and and that's this is such an incredible moment right
now because while you can now put him in that
category of coach killer, because now these guys are just

(26:11):
gone now right after this is over, Hey, we're parting ways.
We're parting ways, We're parting ways. Whoaa what's happening? I
get this incredible sense now with what's going on that
Mark Cuban is so ill equipped to handle something like this.
The Mavericks are going to explode and be a disaster.
Right They've gone from it. Last week it was where
else would you go to team up besides Dallas. Because

(26:33):
Luca Donte just someone who is young enough to be
a star. You can certainly share the spotlight with him.
Uh everybody, all his teammates get along with him. You
see the the the image that he has. It's a
big city. Mark Cuban spends money, it's a great place
to go. And now in a week it's been while
look at the mess Dallas is is what's Luca Donte doing?

(26:53):
All of these things? All the front office people that
Luca Donte supposedly does not like that are that are
ruining basketball and ruining the team. And the front office
guy that Mark Cuban hired who was a former professional gambler,
Luka Done doesn't like this is all happening now. This
is like the end of The Godfather when suddenly, boy,
look at all the enemies. They're all just going look
at me, I'm Mo Green. Maybe Rick car Lyle is

(27:14):
Mo Green. I'm Mo Green. Oh sorry, Rick Carlyle. They
have gone to be such a mess. And Mark Cuban
has no idea how to deal with something like this
because he's never had to worry about the superstar calling
the shots. Right when he took over it was Mark
Cubans Mavericks, right, it was it. He was the star.
He wanted to be the story. And then Dirk became
the guy, still the guy, and they rode Dirk Novitski

(27:37):
all the way through. And what was the big thing
about Dirk? Very selfless, right, always a good guy. Everybody
wanted to come play with him. He never had to
worry about handling any star in the entire time. He
ran the Mavericks because it was Dirk Knovitski's team. But
now things are different, and here comes Luca in a
couple of years saying, Okay, I don't like this guy.
To like this guy, don't like this guy. They were
all reports out of ESPN had it a couple of

(27:59):
Dallas More news that there was tension between Luca and
Rick Carlyle. So now boom, Rick Carlyle is gone. This
has the potential to blow up so much, and the
Mavericks go from, boy, wouldn't you love to be there too? Man,
I don't know that I can go there. I don't
know what the hell is going on here, and I
don't know that Mark Cuban can handle it because he's
never had to do it before. And now suddenly it's

(28:20):
been thrown in his face. You've already seen a couple
of guys go, and there's probably gonna be another one.
Another two guys were gonna get fired at some point.
This has the potential to be such a disaster. Well,
the hard part to it is also the NBA, as
we know, is just different when it comes to how
you handle and coordinate with star players, and in this case,

(28:41):
a guy that's still on the come and he's still
so young, right. We see it in the way he's
on the court because he is in the officials face
after every bit of contact for forty eight minutes, which
has gained him a nice reputation and a lot of
derisive commentary in the sports media world and fandom directed

(29:03):
at him just for that, right, cry baby Luca, fantastic
to watch. You love him, Just shut up and play
basketball right when you're trying to get the next call
and everything else. But what what came out in some
of the Dallas reporting today is that they didn't let
him know they were making the move on don Nelson, right,

(29:23):
So making that who is the guy that was with
him since he joined the organization, and that was the
guy with your relationship. You should at least get a
heads up when you're because we know NBA superstars move
the needle and NFL is still a different thing. Right.
We can talk about Rogers, we can talk about all
these guys, and they can have their list of wants

(29:44):
and whatever, but in the end, virtually every time, the
organization is going to win out right, whatever the ownership wants.
And if you've got a stable organization, it's gonna gonna win.
Out here in Dallas. You you've now thrown you gotta
fire or that started because you have the guy and
now it was gonna be about, hey, let's try to

(30:05):
build around this guy when you're looking at a roster
that had Tim Hardaway Jr. And And overpaid for what
he is. At this point, Chris stops porzingis as you're
in two and two A that you're not winning with that.
We know that, uh, And it's only as far as
Lucas gonna gonna take you. But now if he's unhappy
with the organization, mobility is there. You can make your money.

(30:28):
And that's where it always gets into with the NBA
as well. Guys make as much money with their shoe
deals oftentimes and their apparel deals and whatever else they've
negotiated off the court as they do their contracts, which
are sizeable. It is not to dismiss that by any
way waste in any way, stretch or form. But the

(30:48):
reality is you can make up that cash elsewhere. And
a lot of the stars are Lucas not even at
that point yet, and he's got to be thinking about
It's like, this is where I want to be, So
to sit down has to happen. You're in a great
place at advantages. We always talk about taxes and everything else.
The money you get to keep, it's all there. The
Dallas market. You can leverage into Jerry Bucks and create

(31:11):
your own currency. I mean there there's a lot that
can be done there. But not having the back of
your franchise guy is going to cause a ripple that
Cubans never really seen before because it was always just hey,
we're on the come and we're we're trying hard to build.
It's kind of like Steve ballmer Is. As much as

(31:32):
we talk about the Clippers before you know, playoff Pe
became playoff Pa again. You know that kind of thing. Uh,
Balmber got off right because he's spending money. He did
what he what he could to bring in talent, so
he nobody looks at him. It's like, even even if
it's an absolute disaster, he's also got Jerry West looking
over shoulder, which also helps. But he doesn't get any

(31:56):
of the derision. It's, oh, it's just the Clippers and
no matter what Baumber does, he can't and out of it.
With Mark Cuban, he's enjoyed some some love off Shark
Tank and being outspoken. Yeah, he's got his detractors, but
now you know the chickens come home to rus Bobby
Boucher and you've got to see how you can navigate
this next piece because you gotta get your superstar happy.

(32:18):
I'm telling you, they are so ill equipped to deal
with this. Cuban has no idea. It's it's almost like
the Seahawks trying to deal with Russell Wilson. Whow we
don't know what to do. I don't know, keep him trade,
I I don't know. He's always called the shots. It's
always been his team. He's never had to deal with this,
and now it's, oh, wow, what am I doing? His
Cubans ego is so huge that it's always been he

(32:39):
would have changed the team to Mark Cubans Mavericks. If
he could the Dallas Mark Cuban Mavericks, why can't I
do that? I own the team, right, I got can
do this? Right? I don't. I don't know necessarily that,
but but I think with Luca can't come expectations coach.
Even as great as Dirk was, we're never there. The
other thing is Rick Carlyle Bayalin today with his little
notepad thing that he sent out, Um, where's he hired

(33:03):
in the other jobs that are open? Because I guarantee
he's already had conversations. It's already job. Is he gonna
be Damian LILLARDE guy? Let's say, oh that would be great?
Right now? That would work out? Right? He's he's he's
worked with superstars, he's won a title. This guy's got
a great resume. Right suddenly, Damian Lillard could work out.
Jason Kidd sliding back into Dallas. Look Out, look Out,

Luka do coach killer? Now watch the Mavericks just melt.

(33:51):
We got more NBA on the way. It's a five
point lead from Milwaukee over Brooklyn. But there was huge
news today and it's gonna be incredib double news in
two years. But we'll tell you what it's gonna be
right now because the face of the NBA is gonna change.
What happened today, that's next. Fox. Be sure to catch

Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harman.
I'm an ass man. Seven a half to go in
the fourth quarter. The Bucks on top of the nets
eighties seven to seventy seven k D now has thirty

(34:34):
He is really heating up. Thing is so is Chris Middleton.
He's got thirty two to lead the way for the Bucks.
As the Bucks maintain that ten point lead they've basically
had since the middle of the second quarter. Uh. So
we'll see how the final seven and a half shake
down in Milwaukee. But you want some big seismic NBA

(34:54):
news that we've already told you about that's gonna happen,
that isn't gonna happen for two years. Just put a
pin in this for a Uh. Today reports came out
that supposedly Zion Williamson's family, very unhappy with how things
are going in New Orleans. New Orleans fired stand Van
Gundy yesterday after a year. Zion is gonna now have
his third head coach in three years. Uh. They are

(35:15):
very upset and would like him to be able to
get out of New Orleans and get away from the team. Now,
I told you this a month and a half ago, Okay.
I know that when you get the max, everybody signs
for that kind of money and winds up staying with
their team. Trust me, Zion is going to be the
first guy to say I'm not taking the Max. I'm

(35:35):
going free agency, just like Shack did when he decided,
you know what, I'm gonna go, and I gotta go
someplace else. I gotta go someplace big. I want to
be the star in the league and Zion wants to
be the star in the league. He's gonna be the
guy to go because he knows it's not working and
not gonna work in New Orleans. I mean, like, you've
already on your third coach, you have a couple of
all star players, and you couldn't even make the playoffs, right,

(35:57):
So that the number one you're looking at that number
two he already has a seventy five million dollar endorsement deal,
is gonna make forty million dollars in salary. So I'm
okay with losing a couple of pennies here. If I'm
gonna go sign the Max someplace else, I'm all right
with that. He will be the guy to go. He'll
want a bigger stage because he can own the league
like Shack did. And you know he's not gonna be
able to do with the Pelicans and in a in

(36:19):
a in a league where at some point everybody leaves
their teams. He's gonna be the guy to do it
when he's in the beginning of his prime because he
can own the NBA. He'll be It'll be l A,
it'll be New York, it'll be Miami, it'll be someplace
huge where he goes for the next act in his
basketball career in a couple of years. Pretty crazy. Just
when we look at that team, right and we watched

(36:40):
him a lot, they gave us the gift of Zion
and the squad over the course of the year quite
a bit. When you look at the base and a
Lonzo ball missed a bit of time. But you have
Zion ingram Alonzo, a couple of role players that that
had their moments, and then you're gonna play roulette with

(37:02):
bringing in another coach, so Zion. It's the unfortunate circumstance
that one fifth of the league or one sixth I
should say one no, the six coaches now, so one
fifth of the league decided to change out coaches this year.
So a lot of competition for the the guy or
a woman you may want. But if I'm Gayle Benson
and anybody on that executive staff, um flying there do

(37:25):
I do? I necessarily caro what mom, dad and everybody
else are in his ear? No, but it's noise that
you've got to figure out how to stomp out a
little bit, or you know, just tell them, look, in
two years you're gonna be in Seattle and Seattle's cool.
Look at Russell Wilson is a household max Sell Sell Sell.
It's just gotta frightening for a guy that hasn't played

(37:46):
a ton that this card is being played now. It's
just awful. And stan Van Gundy was a bad fit.
We talked about that all year long, that that wasn't
gonna work, that was a short term experiment, um and
that out and Gentry probably should have stayed there. We
we said it at the time, we say it now. Uh.
Not that he was world beating there, but there was stability.

(38:09):
There was a teacher there and a guy ready to
bring these young guys along. You saw Brandon Ingram become
a completely different player during during his time learning under Gentry.
And now, uh we we've got chaos. Is it? Is
it good business perhaps that he ends up in one
of these other major markets? Sure, because once the Lakers

(38:31):
give up on Anthony Davis, maybe they bring in Zion.
I'm telling you it could. It's gonna be somewhere big.
He's gonna be the guy to do it. Not everybody does.
Look at isn't gonna isn't gonna blink and say I'm leaving.
He'll wind up staying with the Mavericks. Says he's gonna
be the other guy that we're gonna watch. But Zion
is gonna be that guy because you've already seen so
much instability with the Pelicans. It's gonna be Can I

(38:52):
really trust this? You know? Look, had stayed and signed
that extra contract with Oklahoma City. It didn't work, and
he's like he probably wishes he had left earlier. Zion
will be the guy to say, I'm sorry, I'm going
free agency. I'm going to a bigger place. It'll change
the end. You could be a ball. It's gonna change
the NBA. He will change the NBA. Trust me, Zion
is going to be that guy. Twitter and how about

(39:13):
a Fresca Mike gets swollen dome coming up next. More
from this game that's starting to get out of hand,
and a story I've been waiting all night to do.
