(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Greetings and welcome inside.
Happy Tuesday, The Jason Smith Show with my bass friend
Mike Harmon. Right now, Game two of the Western Conference
Finals Sons and the Clippers. It is thirty eight thirty

(00:44):
four Sons with the lead. Scary moment for the Sons.
A few minutes ago, Devin Booker was on the bench
with a towel on his arm and it didn't look
like he was feeling great. But he's back in the
game hitting shots. Everything looks okay and the Sons are
pushing their lead out now to seven thanks to DeAndre
Ayton Cameron Payne having huge nights so far for the Clippers.

(01:06):
I look at this game, Mike, and I go if
this is another game where they lose and the Suns
don't have Chris Paul. I mean, they're my Clippers, right,
I picking to go to the finals. Clippers. Yeah, And
I know you. I know. The old saying is if
if you know, series doesn't begin until team loses on
their home floor. And I understand that, but if you're
the Clippers and you can't get out of this with

(01:26):
a split with Chris Paul, m v P. Chris Paul
is so great. If you can't get out of there
with a split, when Chris Paul doesn't play, how are
you gonna beat him when he does? I mean, I mean,
this is this is the series. I mean, honestly for me,
for the Clippers, they have to find a way tonight.
And it's gotta be Paul George. This has got to
be one of those games where Paul George goes for
like thirty eight, thirteen and twelve. I mean, if anything's

(01:48):
gonna do it, you need that. Hey, uh, we gotta
turn to our best player right now? What when when
the Chips are really down? Because like I feel, this
is the entire series for the Clippers. In this one,
I can tell you this. You know, Terrence Man is
really and joying his turn in the spotlight because he's
getting up every shot he can. Uh, and now he's
looking for superstar calls. We've already hit that point in
the Terrence Man journey as well, don't you looks I mean,

(02:11):
come on, the guy deserves it. That game he had
to close out the series. Of course he gets superstar calls,
and of course you always want to look for it.
Remember we we were on air the day that it
all changed for Devin Booker a while back, as soon
as he got a couple of fanom calls late in
the game against the Lakers, like, ah, his star is born.

(02:32):
But you're right, I think Paul George is gonna have
to set the pace seven points two boards to assist
thus far in fifteen minutes played. Uh, it's gonna be incumbent.
Upon the Patrick Beverley and ray Jon Rondo mix, and
I liked on the television broadcast they kind of echoed
what we've been saying for a long time about both
those guys offenses of bonus. Their job is to just harass, agitate,

(02:57):
annoy whatever else you want to pull out of your
thesaur ris. Uh, Devin Booker and whoever is running with
the ball at that point, So uh, yeah, it's it's
gonna be a crazy, crazy time here if they can't
get a victory. But look, they've come back from back
to back to oh holes. I mean at this point,
they got them right where they want them. You don't

(03:18):
they Well, this is it, right, This is why the
NBA playoff playoff CAUs just when you think, okay, this
team is done. No, no, no, this is now we
play our best basketball. I mean, this is it. We're
we're down, We're big. It's just a different animal now.
And the the bounce that the Clippers are going to
wind up getting going from Hey, this this euphoria of
making it to the conference finals, uh is gonna turn

(03:40):
into a really bad time really fast. Because the Sons
are playing with confidence, they're playing without their floor. General,
it doesn't matter. DeAndre Ayton has become a dominant player
in the past two and a half weeks. Not not
just hey, Jondre Ayton' is a nice player, man, and
he's a he's a really good three. Uh you know
number three for this. No, he has become a dominant player.
You watch what he did last series in helping to

(04:01):
slow down your kitchen. Still getting his points. There's a
reason why this guy is a number one overall pick
in the draft and suddenly he's gone from hey, he's
a really nice piece of whoa, whoa, whoa. DeAndre Ayton
is a monster, And he started out with a big
game tonight and and clearly everybody is having trouble stopping him.
It's like he's hit that next level of his game
over the past two and a half three weeks and
and and if there's any difference in the Suns, that's

(04:23):
what it is, because Devin Booker has been really good. Right,
Devin Booker has been Devin Booker, and Chris Paul has
been Chris Paul, like you know, like Mike D'Antoni says,
Chris Paul is Chris Paul when he's been in. But
DeAndre Ayton has been from whoa, whoa. Now suddenly he's
some that that you have to account for all the time,
and he's going to impact the game in so many ways.
He's been the big difference and why the Sons have
looked so unbeatable. Well, what's funny is his stats are

(04:45):
actually down or were in the regular season from the
nineteens twenty season. Um, But what we're looking at what
a center can do and and how how many guys
can really keep up with an active big man. You
saw the alley oop, which was a really good looking
shot fake as the Clippers got caught flat footed, and

(05:08):
Zubach had no effort except to just kind of get
in the way of eating Uh. Really didn't defend it
and went up and over. And I think folks forget
how young he is. That wasen he was drafted right,
And sometimes we lose track of guys and it's like, wow,
he's been in the league a long time. It's like no, no, no,
he's a kid, and he's just figuring things out. So

(05:29):
between Devin Booker and him and Chris Paul if he
stays I know, obviously Laker fans uh the summer wanting
that reunion for that you know trade that never happened,
uh and didn't get to go through. Sorry Frostberg. But
you're you know, you're looking at a nucleus that's allowing
these guys to grow into the space. And let's face it,

(05:50):
especially when you got a guy like Eaton, there aren't
exactly a lot of big centers uh that are taking
care of business in the traditional big man's role, so, uh,
refreshing in that regard as well. So we'll keep you
updated on this again. Forty six forty three is the
score two minutes to go in the second quarter. Uh,
Clippers trying to hang tough and get a split. Going

(06:12):
back to l A. Meanwhile, we saw, speaking of the draft,
we had the draft lottery tonight, and you know, I'm
very happy, you know me, because you know, I vacation
in Detroit, so our trip to Detroit hopefully will be
a really good one coming up in three weeks. People
were in Pistons gear as the Pistons win the number
one overall pick in the draft lottery. Most likely they're

(06:33):
gonna take Kate Cunningham out of Oklahoma State. And this
is a huge get for the Pistons. This is a
guy who can really do it all. He's big, he's
he's kind of like a almost like a Luka don
Sech type in which he's big and can do everything. Uh,
he's gonna have the ball in his hands the entire time.
The Pistons. This was a great time to win the
draft lottery, not one of those years where well we're

(06:54):
gonna get a guy. He's gonna go number one, because
somebody's got to go number one. Now, this was a
huge prize and on him, he's gonna be the number
one pick and he's gonna be a superstar in the NBA.
This is a great, great day because now the Pistons
are gonna get back on the NBA map sometime the
next year or so. Do you think so just that fast,
just that fast? Man telling you how fast was it
for Trey Young in the and the Hawks? How fast?

(07:18):
A little bit of a base there that you could say,
all right there on the comp that Detroit's back of
the pack. Man, Do you realize how easy it is
to to lure free agent to Detroit? Seriously? I mean
you should you say, listen, there's casinos everywhere you want
to go downtown Detroit there cause you no longer have
to go to Canada everywhere. Yeah, but yeah, but Detroit

(07:40):
has But Detroit has a great I mean it's they
have us, well they do, no, but I mean the
casino area in Detroit is like one stop shop. It's
like a campus. And if you like Canada, yeah, I get,
I mean, you're you're right there right, there's white castles
every street, corner man every street, corner has got a
white castle. I mean, this Detroit's easy. That's what I
would do if if I was bringing Kate Cunningham in

(08:02):
or getting free age. Go listen, look see these casinos here.
We're gonna pay you a lot of money. Hey, you
can go here if you want to. Man, and look
at that. See there's a white castle. Here, there's a
white castle. Here, there's a white castle. It doesn't matter.
You can. It's fantastic. And like I hear that guy,
crazy guy in the radio say all the time, Jason Smith,
uh Muskrat Dinners, you can still get some to some
places downriver. I mean, if you really have that kind

(08:24):
of palette, you can have that. Detroit has everything. Man,
Detroit is like New York, except it's um, it's it's uh,
it's it's it's it's a little bit west. That's what
it is. That's what I would say. We're like New York,
but west. That's what it is. We're doing the Harvard
of the Midwest or Harvard of the West thing here.
Now related to cities, I like this, no, I mean

(08:46):
it looks some young talent, a curiosity at Point Killing
and Hayes. We'll go into his second year, and yeah,
there there's some young guys that are that are curious. Uh,
Sadique Bay and a young nucleus. But do do you
grow fast? I don't know that you grow quite that fast,
especially now you've got to jump over the Knicks. Listen, listen,

(09:08):
the Knicks are gonna have Damian Millard. So that's gonna
be fine. Uh that that that's all, that's all we need. Look,
look the Pistons. It's gonna be that when you have
the player that you can say, this is who we
are our franchise. Look how fast it happens, man, I
mean the Mavericks were terrible, right they were done. What
are we gonna do post Dirk Day draft? Lukadantach? Hey,
look where we are, it's gonna be easy to be
relevant and it's a it's a short step from relevant

(09:30):
to being contending, especially because where are you. You're in
the East. You're in the East. It's gonna be kind
of easy. And Kate Cunningham is gonna be too rial.
But what if a bunch of guys moved back from
the West to the East because they see the easier path,
especially because the Nets can't stay healthy. Take that. Well,
if they all go to the Knicks, it's gonna be fine.
I mean, they can all go to the net. That's fine. Look,

(09:51):
there's room for more than one team to be really
good in the East. It's okay, it's there's more than
for one team. It's it's all good. It's all. I mean,
they were so bad that Blake Griffin didn't want to
play basketball and quit on him. Well, listen, getting thirty
one minute tonight, he was lolly gagging it like nobody
we'd ever seen. I mean, that was Randy Moss end
of his run with the Raiders. Lolly gag. It is

(10:13):
what we saw for Blake Griffin. Yeah, but there's there's
getting Blake Griffin when he's clearly on the down side
of the mountain, and getting Kaid Cunningham early on. Who's
a guard that's gonna have the ball all the time.
I mean it really, it's gonna be a very fast ascension.
It's gonna be really really fast. I mean it's it's
that's how it's going. That's how fast it is now.
Because just take take for instance, some of the teams

(10:34):
that didn't really have a direction two years ago, Right,
the Hawks didn't have a direction to they drafted Trey
Young and now suddenly, well, hey, in one off season,
they brought in a lot of firepower. Look where they are.
Remember I picked the Hawks to go to the Eastern
Conference finals before the season began. I saw this happening,
and look, look, look how easy it was looking. I
saw it all happening. I saw him become an absolute

(10:54):
train wreck to where they fired their coach and then
it all words. See what happened? This important coaching is Mike,
I didn't talk about the coach, and I talked about
the firepower and talked about that coaching is. It doesn't matter,
no difference. Someone had to unleash the firepower. Doesn't matter.
Someone had to make it work. No, no, and I'm
not talking Tim gunn make it more. No. I was

(11:17):
going project runway. Coaching is completely irrelevant, doesn't doesn't doesn't matter,
doesn't lie. I knew that was happening. I think I
even predicted they would fire their coach in the middle
of the season, and Nate McMillan was gonna be the guy.
I told you, Hey, Nate McMillan, member, when your player,
he succeeded a lot of different. You think Indiana fields
right now though you fired Nate Dude, get fired? Yeah, yeah, yeah,

(11:39):
that's Indiana's hoping. Well, we we're gonna get Brad Stevens.
Let's cross that offs bred Stevens. Who Now, let's cross
to coaching draft laundry? Is that what they were hoping for? Oh,
now that's something. Now that's a TV show. Here's all
the people that draft currently submitting resumes for a head
coaching job. We get to watch some snippets of their

(12:00):
their video and presentation. No no, no, no, no, I
god it no no, no, no, no, no, this is
this is great. No, this is a great idea. Oh
my god. I was just thinking about politics. Right. You
remember when the Republican National Convention, when when back in
twos sixteen, when when Trump was running he was and
he was the front runner, but everybody else was on

(12:20):
stage with him, and it was everybody else you've heard about, right,
It was like it was like the Avengers. Right, well,
you're seeing all these people you heard about on the
stage together. It was it was shades of the Schwarzenegger
gubernatorial recall election. Look at you, there's Marco Rubio, there's Alca.
Look at there, there's there's uh, it was great. What
you do is you make it just like that. You

(12:42):
put all the people on stage, you know, like six
ft apart from each other. You put Mike D'Antoni and
Becky Hammond and Chauncey Billips and Jason Kidd and everybody else,
and you have a moderator asking questions about the different
teams and saying, all right, well, how would you help
this team? This question is for miss Hammond, how would
you how would you help the Portland trail Blazes? Well,
I would trade Damian Lillard. Whoa whoa, whoa whoa? How

(13:03):
could just say that, I'll think about the television show
that would be instead of doing it for the for
the draft lottery, we do. We interview all those people
and then they all go back and forth to each other,
and Mike D'Antoni could say, how dare you say trade
Damian Lillard? Damian Lillard is the franchise cornerstone of that organization,
And now suddenly Damian Lillard wants to get Mike D'Antoni hired,
And oh my god, that would be an incredible television show.

(13:24):
Oh I got one that we could do. We Compare
it with a version of the Newlywed Game where the
moderator gets to decide what is actually the answer. So
they'll ask questions about theory and and roster moves or
whatever else, and they flipped their little white board around
and they can tell them they're wrong. But the dirt right,
which guy we can trade? C J. McCollum. Oh, look

(13:47):
that you did. I'm sorry. The correct answer is yusef Nurkics.
I'm sorry that was the right answer. Has been upset
with the organization for a while. I'm sorry. That's correct.
No points for this round, all right. Next, let's talk
about the Indiana Bay. That's a great show, right there, buddy,
that's it. That's it just works. That's a show. Oh
my goodness, we just figured it out. Twitter at how

(14:08):
about a Frescott Mike gets swollen? Don the Jason Smith's
with Mike coming. But I mean, watch how fast Detroit
rises with Kate Cunningham halftime right now, Phoenix with a
one point lead over the Lakers forty eight to forty seven.
Reggie Jackson leading the way for the Clippers. He's got eleven. Meanwhile,
Pain with sixteen six out of twelve from the floor.

(14:29):
He has also blossomed over the past three weeks, playing
a lot in the absence of Chris Paul. So the
Sons of getting two huge players that have just really
amped things up for them. We'll have more on this game,
keep you updated on it. But coming up next, we'll
ask the big question about the NBA Draft lottery that
Mike and I ask every single year because we kind
of have to. Plus, what team is now going to

(14:51):
make a huge splash and a big trade because of
what happened in the lottery tonight. That's it's not gonna
be Cleveland. It's coming up now. I don't know they're
in the three slot. They are, but it's not gonna
be Cleveland. You think, ty Shirt, Ty Shirt, did you
even know that the Cleveland Cavaliers were in the lottery.
I didn't even know they had a sports team. Okay,
very nice. Who's gonna make that big trade? We'll tell

(15:13):
you coming up next. Keep it right here. Fox Sports
Radio Radio Radio Radio Radio Radio Chris Paul is Chris Paul.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart
Radio app Fox Sports Radio that Jason Smith Show with

(15:34):
my bass friend Mike Harmon halftime in the Desert seven
Sons with the lead over the Clippers. Entertaining games so far. Uh,
it looked like the Sons were gonna run away a
little bit in the second quarter, but the Clippers kept
it close. So we have a one point game going
into the third quarter. Meanwhile, tonight also the NBA Draft

(15:57):
lottery and the Pistons one we told you a few
minutes ago. Listen, I'm a big believer in Kate Cunning
him he's gonna transform the Pistons immediately. I know that.
The general consensus, well can he really don't know. Yeah,
guys like that can do it. You can. You can
transform a team like that if you're that good, especially
if you're a guy that has the ball in his

(16:17):
hands all the time. Why isn't Zion transformed the Pelicans
zigoned another ball? You know, when you're a guard and
you have the ball in your hands, that's gonna that's
a much bigger deal when you're can When when you're
someone who's gonna have the ball, you know, seventeen seconds
of every shot clock. That's a big deal. That's why
Luca has gotten the Mavericks into the playoffs and they've
become a force. It's why Trey Young has gotten the
Hawks to where they are there in the Eastern Conference Finals. Now,

(16:40):
remember I picked the Hawks for the East Finals before
the season started. When you have a guard that can
do it, it's that big a deal. So when you say, well,
but Zion, Zion's gotta get the ball. Zion's gotta be
someone that needs point, why not when? But when Lonzo
Ball was hurt towards the end of the year, before
he had the hand injuries, Ion was running point most

(17:03):
of the time. And he's that that same Lebron James,
I'm gonna put my head down. You want to stand
in it's not It's not gonna be a pleasant day
for you. So you also cringe every time he hits
the floor. But to your point, yes, the ball in
their hands doesn't bring them right back to relevancy. I
don't know, but we're gonna get to see a lot
of Vinny the Microwave, Johnson highlights and James Buddha Edwards

(17:25):
and everybody else. So I in the highlight reels as
they try that ascent, I'm all good for it. Let's go.
And you know what else we're gonna hear. We're gonna
hear Detroit basketball. Like I missed that. I miss hearing
that a lot de rocks. Uh So, the one thing

(17:47):
about the draft lottery that Mike and I ask it
every year and I've not gotten a good answer, and
it doesn't make sense. The NBA Draft Lottery is a
big deal, right, It is a very big deal in sports.
The average NBA fan loves it. The average fan watch that.
We watched the team send their their representatives with rabbit's foot,
with all kinds of different things. You know, we're gonna

(18:09):
send them the owner's daughter and look, MARYL. Mallory Eden's
becomes a huge deal the last few years when she's
there for the Bucks. It's a very big thing. And
yet the NBA is bent on let's squeeze it in
an a half hour show before we have a game
or between games. And I don't understand why. Look at
last night there was no NBA games. How do you

(18:31):
not carve out a night for the NBA Draft Lottery.
You can make it a two hour show. You have
a half hour pre show, you can meet the people
who are showing up, and then you start revealing the picks.
All the way through, you get some analysis. Then once
you get the draft lottery, okay, then there's interviews. We're
interviewing the people picking up top. We're interviewing the GM
or the vice president for the Pistons, were interviewing Kate Cunningham.

(18:53):
You could go number one, how do you feel about this?
It's a two hour show. It owns its own news cycle,
and instead it becomes part of what the NBA has
going on. And I never understand this. I never do.
You could easily say, you know what, this day is
gonna be our day. Right at the end of the
Conference Finals, We're gonna have one day with no games,
and that's our NBA Draft Lottery day, and we own

(19:14):
that night and that becomes its own new cycle for
twenty four hours. I never understand how the NBA failed
to take advantage of this the NFL. The NFL would
do this and say, you know what we have the
we have the NFL Draft Lottery where instead of being
the worst team, you get to just be in the
mix for a pick. You think they would try to
jam the draft lottery, especially with someone like Trevor Lawrence
being out there. Hey, let's jam it between the the

(19:36):
National uh doubleheader. Right, we have Colts, we we have Giants,
Cowboys in the early game, and then we have Dolphins
Patriots at at four o'clock. Let's get like a twenty
minutes in there where we can you know, pull the
ping pong balls out and see who gets the number
one pick with Trevor Lawrence. I mean, can you imagine
the NFL doing it that way? I mean that, but
that's what the does. Let's just let's just do it
like this. Let's just throw this out there. Let's let's

(19:58):
just get it done and move on. I don't understand, really,
I don't understand in a day and age where one
you're you're feeling so much time. Right, you have multiple networks,
multiple television partners, and you're in that part of the
calendar where we've gone to game show season depending on
what network it is, right, because they're pretty cheap to produce,

(20:19):
do them in a couple of weeks time bing bang, boom,
We've got programming for six weeks, right, and get and
just go change your suit or dress or pants, suit
or whatever you're wearing and just come back out and
do the next show. Uh, Holy moly, is getting two
hour blocks for crying out a lot? I love, but
I got to use that as an example. You're right,

(20:40):
you're you're into programming and trying to find where you've
got some juice. When you're trying to build your lead
to the next level, why are you not with open
arms celebrating the arrival of the says, yeah, you're gonna
have draft night. That's fine, But here's the Hey, who
are going to be Some of these players have a

(21:01):
little profile, have a couple of snippets of interviews they've done.
Maybe they asked them, you know, whether they've ever eaten
muskrat before they're gonna go to the dry I don't know,
but get to know, there's so many guys. Nobody has
any idea who the hell they are that are gonna
be drafted in the top fifteen. Here's an opportunity for
two hours, two and a half. Whatever the block is,

(21:22):
make it the length of a normal game right where
you get carve out uh two hours and then the
to be determined on the back end for the end
of that third you know, before you get into in
insert drama that you're shoving down my throat here. You
can do that. Let it breathe. Let the administrators whoever
has been set up there, they have to perform like

(21:44):
it's a game show, just like we were talking about before.
Answer a couple of questions about the team, the year
that just passed. Try to see if you can get
them perhaps a little unscripted, to give a little bit
of a critique. Why are why am I sitting here?
What the hell went wrong? Boom, you've got drama, and
you've got talking points for us and for our brethren

(22:05):
here on Fox Sports Radio and certainly over on FS one,
and and it lives and it grows, and these guys,
these little narratives, these five minute vignettes, get their secondary
run across social media after the show has been aired,
and we get to know some of these guys what
we're talking about one and duns or guys that skipped

(22:25):
the college process for all the new avenues or went
and played overseas or coming from overseas. There's so many
wins to be had, and it's so cheap to produce,
Like what are we doing? If the NBA would ever
do it? Once they would never do it again. Another
way they'd say, Oh, this really works. I really, I
really would like to get I would now if I

(22:47):
could ask Adam Silver one question. Well, my first question
would be how does Mark Cuban run the Mavericks when
he kept the domestic serially abuser on? So I would
ask him that first. Then I would say, how do
you not do this? How do you not take advantage
of this and have the draft lottery on its own night?
Those the two questions I would ask. I would ask
Adam Silver if I could, I've had really but the
draft one just I mean, I I at least understand
a little bit of of of certain things with philosophy

(23:09):
and strategy, but this I don't get. This is an
easy Hey, we can own a day on the calendar. Uh,
let's do it. Okay, this is we can own a day.
And well, now we're gonna own a little bit of
the day. And by the time we get to the
end of the game tonight, what are more people gonna
be interested in? How? How the how the Sons and
the Clippers ended up? Or the draft lottery? Why would
you do that? You could have a whole extra day
and this is why the NBA, This is why I'd

(23:30):
be I'd be a great idea guy. I want to
be a consultant. That's the gig I really want, man.
I mean then I wouldn't have to work at all.
I could just you know, use my brain power for
like ten minutes a day and go, here's my idea.
When you need my next great idea, Well, you know,
we'll need a couple of months to do this. Great,
I'll talk to me again in two months. Have another
great idea for you. Awesome. I mean I could do that, Mike.
I could be that kind of guy. I could change
the world. Now is the time to you know, create

(23:53):
that resume. To do so, you would have to abdicate
your thrown here on Fox Sports Radio, thereby making seven
pm to eleven pm Pacific time. Yea, yeah, that's right. Yeah,
I don't know. I think I could do both if
I wanted to, I would not have to. You made
it sound like you didn't want to tax your brain anytime.

(24:15):
Why would I have to have? No, I'm just saying
it's extra brain power. It's it's extra brain power. That's
that's what I would do. Still be easy, extra to
make sure you've got enough synapses firing and I don't
know what we're talking here now. I mean I could
do or I could leave and then it'd be you
and Kenny Maine doing the show together. I mean that
that could work out that way. Dry sarcasm firing back

(24:38):
both ways. That could that could be uh, either the
most popular show of all time or people were like, wow,
these guys are so hateful. Twitter it out about a fresca.
Mike gets swollen dome coming up in ninety seconds. It's
not a bold prediction. It's gonna be a certainty of
one big trade that's gonna happen in the NBA after
what we saw in the draft lottery tonight. But first,

(25:00):
be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific. Hey, it's Ben, host of The Fifth Hour

Podcast or wherever you get your podcast right now. NBA
Clippers lead the Sons still early in the third quarter

(25:44):
ten and a half to go. Uh, Clippers came out
pretty quick here in the second half to take the lead.
But uh, looking at the lottery, this is not really
a bold prediction as much as it's a certainty. The
Golden State Warriors are going to make a huge trade
to try to keep things going and to try to
keep Steph Curry happy for another year. Right. I told you,

(26:06):
if Steph wants to win championships, he's got to realize
he's got to go someplace else. Right. They're not They're
not the pied piper like they used to be. People
aren't Hey, I'm gonna come to Golden State to win.
It's not happening. Clay Thompson has has broken down. We
don't know what we're gonna get. Clearly, Steph Curry is
a guy he's gonna score thirty a game. But look
at where the Warriors are. They didn't get the ping

(26:27):
pong balls to go their way in the draft lottery.
They're picking seventh and fourteen. That's not enough to transform
the team. They are going to make a huge deal
to bring in another star player, and it's gonna involve
the draft picks. It's gonna involve James Wiseman, it's gonna
involve Andrew Wiggins. It's gonna involve money going places to
be able to bring stars in. They absolutely have to

(26:47):
do it because another year of getting thumped and Steph
Curry scoring thirty and the Warriors finishing ninth or tenth,
STEP's gonna go. You know what, I'm gonna go home
to Charlotte to go play the last few years of
my career. You know what, I'm gonna go to the
Lakers to go to him up with with somebody else
to try to go and I'm gonna go to the
Club'm gonna go here, I'm gonna go. That's what's going
to happen. The Warriors have to keep this going. That
gott to find a way to get better, and you're

(27:08):
not gonna do it by saying, hey, our draft picks
are gonna come do it for us. No, they're not.
They need to go take what they have right now
because they have they have value, they have assets, and
they have a contract they can do. Okay, everything is great,
and you have to make a move and you have
to make a big deal to bring somebody in because
that's the only way there because you can't count on
well when Clay comes back. Who knows that Clay Thompson's

(27:29):
gonna be when he gets back. Draymond Green isn't the
player he was. You need another star. You need to
collect stars. That's how you're winning in the NBA. And
you need another big star to come in to play
alongside Steph Curry. Then that's the only way you're gonna
get the Warriors back in some kind of contention, because
you saw it was like this year they barely contended.
They didn't miss the they didn't even make the playoffs. Right,
they got in the playing game, they lost too. They

(27:50):
were done. They will make a huge move. They will
bring in another star. That is absolutely going to happen
for this year. I think there's with the seventh fourteenth,
it makes perfect sense now it's just a question of
do you have to part with all of those other assets,
because I think you'd like to keep Wiggins if you could,
who's developed it and found a nice niche there, right, Yeah,

(28:14):
but he but he makes but he makes thirty millions,
so he if you can upgrade, and he's got two
years left on his deal, if you can upgrade and
bring in a big star player, Wiggins makes the money work.
I mean you can't. Unfortunately, you always have to do
the nonsensical NBA let's make the money work, yes, process,
and Wiseman makes nothing, So yes, you'd have to to

(28:34):
pair up another high end guy to go with it. Um,
but you mentioned Draymond Green. He's on the books for
another couple of years unless he were to suddenly, uh
decide he wants to be a full time commentator. But
since he was still all defensive player, he's not going
anywhere anytime soon. And he's still a tremendous agitator. And

(28:56):
and while the points aren't there, rebounds they some playmaking
and again agitation, uh is certainly going to be there
for for him and Clay Thompson a question mark. I
would say that that's the most obvious of the if
a team is going to pull the trigger on something big,
being able to walk away with two of these lottery picks,

(29:17):
gonna do it. Um beyond that, you I think you
you start looking at what what is going on in
New Orleans? Right? How do they try to keep improving
on a nucleus there? Especially if Alonzo leaves right is
he are you gonna try to match whatever offer he gets?

(29:37):
Or are you drafting his replacement? Or are you getting
Zion on the recruiting mission to go find uh somebody
else so you get active uh in in the undraft
day to try to move up or or something of that. ILKs.
So I think there's a couple of big moves. But yes,
Steph Curry, you have to maximize whatever it is left
because even though he's the baby faced assassin, I mean

(30:00):
we're talking what you're thirteen in the league. Some injuries
piling up, and these guys aren't getting any younger that nucleus.
It's it's it's a case of they have no choice,
like this is this is it? I look, I told
you that the the the dynasty is dead, but you
have to at least with these players that you got
to a dynasty with let's let's try before everything we're

(30:23):
out completely out of gas, right, let's try before we
have to completely break things down and start over. And
this is you know, with no Clay and no Draymond,
and and and Steph. Who knows. I'm telling you, if
they don't have a big year this year, you don't
know what stuff is gonna go on with that contract extension.
It could be like, I want to go someplace else.
I want to go here. We told you he's got
to go someplace else to win championships. But they will
make this year, this one last chance. It could be

(30:46):
a rental for a year, just to get a guy
that hey, all right, he's gonna be a free agent.
There's no promises he's gonna stay with us. We have
to do whatever we can to bring him in because
nothing else is gonna happen, right, nothing else is going
to turn us back into where we were. And if
they were a team that never got there, like if
they had never got to the finals and they but
they had been really good for a while, Okay, I

(31:06):
can see where they would kind of back off and go, well,
we got a couple of picks, you know, Wiseman might
be really good, and you know Wiggins has been good.
Maybe this is gonna this is gonna gel after a bit.
But because you got to the top of the mountain
so many times and you were a dynasty as well,
that's what we have to try to get there. And
if we can't get there, then we got to start
over again. So this is why it's it's going to happen.
I mean they have to. They have no choice but

(31:27):
but to but to make this and it could be
all for the It could be seven fourteen Wiseman and Wiggins,
what do we got? And then so okay, let's see
where we got here we got and then the sixers
are gonna call, and they're gonna say, oh, Ben Simmons, Um,
Ben Simmons, let's see, you're gonna see some kind of
big deal. It's gonna be a huge, huge name that
winds up coming to Golden State to play with stuff.
I guarantee. Just remember that if you do make that

(31:49):
move and you bring in Ben Simmons, now you have
two guys that can't score. When I'm calling it what
it is, two guys that are a great defensive agitator
sets all finding good. What did that do for the Sixers?
Nothing right, because you had a first team all defensive
in Simmons, and you had two guys on the second

(32:10):
team and Embad and Batist Thible, and you're sitting at home.
Of course, you're also saddled with Doc Rivers as opposed
to Steve Kerr. Blame Ben Simmons. I threw him under
the bus. It was that easy. It's not my fault,
not my fault at all. Hey, and beat is great, right.
I talked to him. Hey, we're gonna blame Ben Simmons.
In the post game press conference. He said, oh yeah, absolutely,

(32:31):
coach out. That's what we did. We threw him onto
the that's it. We can get him gone, get him gone,
get him gone. It's okay. We just gonna go. We
get somebody else and not my fault. Can't find me
right now. We finished in first place. I'm a big
difference maker here, big difference make. Go. I was bad
in the playoffs because I don't know how to coach
when he gets the final two minutes of games. But
let's not talk about that. Let's make sure we know
what's Ben simmons fault. Raise my raise my hand uh, Doc,

(32:52):
let me let me ask a follow up question. Why
are the clippers excelling with the guy that was sitting
next to you on the bench. I'm sorry, I couldn't
hear the zoom is going out. You know what, I'll
just I'll just you know, just email me your questions
and I'll write an answer for you. Okay, thanks, This
is Doc signing off. How do I press up? But
is that Oh that's the mute? Hang on? That's no,
that's hang up. Okay, I'm sure I want to hang up. Yes,

(33:15):
and that's how we'll go. Okay. Twitter at how Powder

get to another big story, this one out of Major

(33:57):
League Baseball. Sticky stuff ain't going any where anytime soon.
We got big controversy next. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the I Heart Radio app Fox Sports Radio
The Jason Smith Show with My bas friend Mike Harman. Oh,

(34:18):
four minutes ago, in the third quarter, these Sons have
opened up a sixty nine sixty two lead over the Clippers. Uh.
The Clippers were playing pretty well to start the third quarter,
but the Sons have gone on a nice little mini
run here. Uh. Payne now up to twenty three points
for them. Uh. He's been a big beneficiary of minutes
with Chris Paul being out and Cameron Payne has been

(34:40):
a huge difference maker tonight eight and also controlling things underneath.
It's a game the Sons are winning and Devin Booker
isn't really affecting the box score. I mean, he's he's
playing okay, but this is not a Devin Booker game.
He's got eleven on four out of thirteen. This is
bad news for the Clippers, Mike Carman. It is awful
news with the Hipers. When the Suns can beat you

(35:01):
and their star player is just having an okay game. Right,
one is absent, the other is having a night five
assists with five turnovers, still a plus seven, but just
eleven points. It becomes the pain game, which is good.
Devin Booker just got bloodied on this latest possessions, so

(35:24):
we'll keep an eye on that status as they run
with is the biggest towel they can find off the bench. Uh,
so we'll keep you updated here. Yes again, Booker is
on the ground, just got hit, has got a towel
on his face, and we'll let you know exactly how
it looks like a little bit of blood at the
bridge of his nose after he ran into Patrick Beverley.

(35:46):
So right now they're working on him. Uh. Booker came
in and and try to drive, and Beverly stepped in
and they went head to head, and clearly Booker got
the worst end of it because Patrick Beverley look it around,
going what what happened? What you're calling a fall on me.
It's like, dude, you actually drew blood. How many times

(36:07):
do you have that when you used to play on
the playground. He's like, call your own falls. There's no
falls unless there's blood. Ha ha, Well you got blood. Yeah,
there's blood. No blood, no foult, No, there is bloody.
His nose looks like Rockies nose after the first fight
with Apollo. Uh. He is being taken off the floor
right now. When you're bloody, you gotta come out. Uh.
So Booker has blood down the bridge of his nose.

(36:29):
It looks like his cut is at the like where
the your nose meets your brain or meets your forehead.
It looks like that's where the cut is. And right
now he is sitting on the bench being examined, and
he's got his hand and a towel over his nose.
So we'll keep you updated on this because this is
something that could change the course of the game. That
was just a a head butt as Booker tried to
drive and Patrick Beverley stepped in. Beverley also is out

(36:52):
of the game right now. He's got a towel on
his forehead. Uh so that could be this is something
that's uh batars boy back to the to the tunnel here.
So yeah, well they got they're gonna have to do
a concussion test form most likely, and so that this
is probably gonna be it for Booker. I would say
through the end of the third quarter, there's about three

(37:13):
and a half minutes left to go, and no, you know,
Booker is walking under his own power. He's walking out.
Everything looks like, you know, he doesn't look like he's
struggling to walk at all. But I would say that
at the best case scenario, we don't see him until
the fourth quarter. Again, three and a half left to
go here, Patrick Beverley also being looked at on the
sideline again a sixty nine sixty two lead for the

(37:37):
Phoenix Suns over the Clippers. So obviously this is a
storyline we're gonna continue to follow here on the show.
But in addition, coming up next, Oh boy, have we
had controversy involving sticky stuff and Major League Baseball pictures.
Clayton Kershaw was just examined how did I go? A
manager got tossed wanting more examinations of an opposing picture. Yeah,

(37:59):
this a going anywhere. We get to all the fun
next right here. On Fox
