Well.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Big show tonight is a big NFL to get to. Yeah,
every day a big show.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Let's go. We are well on the cusp the eve
of week three of the NFL season. Come on and
get started with a big one.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
We have a game tomorrow night involving the Buffalo Bills,
who could be a super Bowl team this year.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Watch.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Watch, let's talk about things. Is Hailey Steinfeld gonna show up?
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Watch the game, doesn't matter who they're playing, doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Watch again. The Bills are a great team.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
And Josh Allen, especially now with the busted nose, He's
fun to watch.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
James Cook is fun to watch. It's fun to watch
Sean McDermott coach.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Watch that. Yeah, watch that game.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
More people getting thrown through tables on a second screen experience.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
I think that could be the first green experience. Tomorrow
night might be a little bit better.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Minus twelve Yeah, but still still a little time to
go before the kickoffs, still pushing team.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
They see another half half point tacked on before it's
all said none.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Uh so, yes, we are getting set for Week three
of the NFL and the story that Look, I wish
this story would go away, but apparently.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
It's not because people want to hold onto this. Man.
I'm like, just let it go. It's not a big deal.
But today.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Ben Johnson, head coach of the Bears for now, head
coach of the Bears. So too soon, too soon on that.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Hey, man, if they're extending Ryan Poles, this guy might
have a lifetime contractor kidding me. Tom Brady is broadcasting
Sunday's game between the Cowboys and the Bears. Oh take
the over. Next week the Raiders, who Tom Brady partly owns,
play the Bears. And you know, there's been this made
up controversy the last few days and A Brady, it's.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
A conflict of interest and I's gotta go. And it's
just the most ridiculous, stupid thing that because it's people
in the media and a lot of broadcasters and writers
who just are lazy or have nothing better to say,
or just want to say. Ah, Brady, this is absolutely
gonna be awful. You can't add what a conflict event.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
And I maintain no matter how bad a coach is,
no matter how bad a coach is, he's not walking
into a production meeting that happens before a game and
telling everybody.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Way, do you guys see the crap that we pull
this week? Man, there's a couple of plays we've been
waiting to run. We know we're gonna get. Well, we
get in third and long. Here's what we're gonna do.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
Right, Make sure you got a camera situated on the
defensive coordinator because we're gonna pants him with what we're
gonna run out here.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
That stuff just doesn't happen. But that's what people want,
want us to believe happens at Brady to come the
information he gets from broadcasting game. If they were playing
a game that day, I would understand, like, Hey, the
coach is gonna walk in talk about his game plan
a little bit, and you're playing that day.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
That I get. But this is where whatever the Bears
do Sunday, right where Bears are Sunday, the Raiders are
gonna see. Man, they're gonna put that stuff out there.
The Raiders are gonna see it.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
So all of unless maybe the Raiders don't look at
film and they rely on Brady to tell them stuff.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Fry, Hey, we don't do a film here in Vegas. No, No,
I get that. So Tom, you just told us what
you saw like But.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
If that was here was the same day stuff, or
Brady's doing a game where they're playing the Raiders, Okay,
then I can kind of understand.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
But this this rest of it, that's no coach is
saying a bunch of knights all completely. We talked about
this the last couple of nights and congratulations with the
people that picked it up today that said, hey, you
know what, I really don't think that's that big a deal.
You're welcome. You can send money to us here at
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
But with all of it, the words souid that everybody's
done with this, and the impropriety and conflict of influence
and all.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
That, just say the quiet part out loud. Just put
your name on it.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
You don't trust Tom Brady and you think anybody he
talks to is a dope. Because we've been having these
meetings with broadcast crews forever and you can pick your
favorite analysts, pick your favorite play by play guy.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
He's like, none of them would have done this.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
At any boy, dude, we've got worried about guys getting
an extra five hour bill. We're all over the place
and players and oh the horse, you're just broadcasters. Tom
Brady's the guy that's gonna be the first one that
suddenly he breaks that through that invisible wall.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
People just want to deflate his reputation at any two.
Oh sorry, you can't. But look, we've been doing this
long enough. Like the other one I'll give you.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Let's talk about shades of gray, and let's talk about spygate,
the flight gate might be the dumbest thing in the
history of football.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
And we've had a lot.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Of dumb controversies across sports, things where people get selectively outraged.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Major League Baseball. No, no, no.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
This has now risen to the level where it's even
worse because I was gonna go waive to all my
friends that covered Major League Baseball and claim they didn't
see anything. For years we were duped in the performance
enhancing era.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Lazy broadcasters who want to push this story because they
can't think of something else better to talk about that's
more compelling. Right, Here's Ben Johnson from earlier today addressing, Hey,
you know, way we're not giving away state secrets to
Tom Brady in production meetings.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
I've been careful everything I've said since the season started.
I've been in pure coach speak mode.
Speaker 6 (06:10):
Started.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
So for me, it's just business as usual. I'm just fine.
I like Tom and we have a really good relationship.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
So yeah, well that was better than anything he's done
coaching wise. I've done great at coach speaking.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
That let laughter, that was like you know when when
when like like a big comedian like Shane gillis the
laughs he gets when when he's doing a big set
on broadcast on HBO.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Well, those are people are afraid of him. Yeah, but
I mean because he can get stern looking and and
I think they're they're fearful that suddenly they're gonna get
their credentials pulled.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
It almost sounded like that was like fake laughter that
oh yeah, canned. Hey, make it make it sound like
no one's lasting.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Landing was saying was the crowd noise pumped in at
Northwestern Life.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
So it's okay to hey, if Ben Johnson said something funny,
just put the laugh track in so it makes him
sound good, you know, maybe.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
Make it a little bit of a better environment, come
out like yuck it up right. So for a while,
I'm on Ben Jonson's side. I'm looking the Bears have
been such a big story the first two weeks of
the season and their lack of competitiveness and ridiculously bad
decisions by Johnson and getting pasted by the Lions who
ran up the score on them. A at least if
they're losing, they're losing interesting. And I had Ben Johnson's back.
(07:18):
You're telling Ben Johnson, this is a stupid story that
doesn't mean anything and then he went on to talk
about what's wrong with the Bears, and he kind of
talk about saying the quiet part out loud. This is
Ben Johnson throwing the entire team and himself under the
(07:39):
bus for what really might be an issue with the
Bears in their slow start so far.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
I think our practice habits are are yet to reflect
a championship caliber team.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Okay, practice habits yet to reflect a championship caliber team.
All Right, Now, I'm gonna ask you, Mike Carvin, question,
who is the head coach of the Chicago Bears?
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Ben Johnson?
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Yes, Ben Johnson? Who is in charge of practices every day?
Who's in charge of Ben Johnson? Ben Johnson? Okay, Who's
the one that probably has the most say over how
a team practices in getting guys to buy.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
In in twenty twenty five? It's Ben Johnson.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Ben. Here we go.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
Ben Johnson's the answer for all of those quess Here's
here's where you're.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Gonna love thee where I'm gonna take this. Who's their
opponent this week? We looked on on the we we
actually had this game later in the schedule. Petitioned the
NFL wanted to play him now so what we'll move
this game up to now so we could get to
two and one. Who's their defensive coordinator over in Dallas? Listen,
we don't Uh, we don't. We don't plan on defense. Uh.
(08:45):
I don't know that we have one because it really
it's overrated.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Well, have Steven check because they you paid Matt Eberflus
to come.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
No, I don't know. I don't. I don't think we
got the guy from the Bears, that really bad head coach.
They couldn't wait to get out of there. That the
smith got go eber Flutes. I had a funny bit
he does on the.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
Radio, the Pearl Jam with the Vetter kid McCready on
the guitar.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
I kind of like that. But oh that's a guy
we hired. Oh well, we're gonna go out and get
Rex Ryan. Oh boy, good luck with that.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
All of it to say, that was the reputation of
what you'd a had for several years under Eberflus, pretty loose
fluid practice.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Hey who built this roster? Oh that's the guy that
got the extension.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Hi, Ryan Poles, We're gonna sit swipe you while we're
here again. And they built a squad and they built
an environment, and again, you're trying to get rid of
a bunch of bad habits and a bunch of guys
that had gotten used to a different style, and you're
still trying to build it in your image and the
way we work in the off season. Anymore, do you
(09:50):
get enough practices to really beat the bad habits of yesteryear,
especially when that roster is constructed with most of those
same component parts.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
No, so he was calling out.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
All of the veteran players who dogged it last year
under Eberflus and brought some of that and having bought
in fully, which means he's already warning you that they're
gonna be about eight of these guys left on this
roster come twenty twenty six if he has his choice.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
I'll tell you, man, here's where I can be incredibly
positive about the Bears. Okay, this is how much fun
they've been so far. The first two weeks. They've been
a stories the first two weeks of the season.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
They made two Offensive Player of the weeks. Yeah, yeah, Look,
I want to get a third with Dak Prescott.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
This is the Bears, Yes, and I really I want
to say this the right way.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
They are such a beautiful mess. It is.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
It is really fantastic that it's such a beautiful mess.
That it's not just the team is bad, it's the
team is bad with Flair. And it's not that just
the team is bad with Flair, it's the.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Team is bad.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
And boy, we make headlines outside of just being bad,
and we do that with Flair. This is this is
three big stories with the Bears. First, the smoke bomb
and leaving style.
Speaker 6 (11:18):
You had.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
You had the you know, blowing the lead opening night
Monday night game against the Vikings and the horrible decision
to kick off uh and kick it deep, which was stupid.
You had the pacing at the hands of the Lions
last week who ran up the score on you, and
you say I don't care.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
I don't care.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
And now you have this where you're saying, hey, yeah,
we're not practicing up to the championship level, which really,
you are the person that's responsible for it. I get
that every look, every guy is, every player is his
own person, and you you know you want to weed
those people out. But when you say that so early,
it's you feel like, hey, I am I am just
trying to find a way to stay afloat from week
(11:56):
to week and it's such an absolutely, it is a
beautiful mess.
Speaker 6 (11:59):
Man.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
I'm like, this is it's one of those the bears
or that food that comes out of the oven and
it looks terrible, right, but it tastes so good because
the flavor is great. But presentation, I mean, if you're
on a food cooking show, you're gonna get it. Yeah,
this presentation is not good, right. The colors of the
food are not good off, but it tastes good. And
(12:20):
that's a The bears are such a beautiful mess it.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Man, They're they're not good and they have so many problems,
but boy, they're so much fun. Like these are fun
problems man, Like I I dig that every week that
every few days the Bears can give us this.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
I didn't know that they were. This is great stuff.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
I mean, obviously, look, give me flavor over presentation any
day for the food. I mean, I know you'll you
eat with your eyes first.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
I don't care. I don't need it to be pretty.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
I just want to win, Okay, whether it's whatever's going
down my gullet or whatever I'm watching on a Sunday afternoon,
or the occasional evening game.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
That's all I care about. Do I get the W?
And that's where Ben Johnson is right at this point,
he's saying it you're not that you haven't got any no, no, no, no, no,
no no.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
But I'm saying he's drawing a line in the sand,
like because he could just be well, you know what,
we're not there yet, Like no, he's been going straight
to brass tax bold statements and and now he's got
to cash some pretty big checks that you know that
that he's writing here with his mouth and the expectations
that he's tried to put on this squad. Excuse me,
(13:30):
I seed growth And I'm holding two thoughts, you know,
running in parallel. I think you've got a flawed roster
and a flawed back history as related to polls, et cetera.
But I did see improvement with Caleb Williams week two.
I think there are going to be strides and it's
not built in the day. Again, You're you're changing entirely
(13:51):
the quarterback he is, but you're also trying to change
what has been a disastrously losing culture. What did they
celebrate again with that home game the other Bears. Yeah,
you're forty years of wandering in the desert. Have there
been more celebrations? Have there been more Dodger O Tani
Bobblehead Days or eighty five Bears celebrations. I gotta say
(14:14):
that that might take team that celebrates something more more frequently.
We'll find a way that you got them talking, Joe
Davis Bobblehead.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
We're going to keep celebrating the Bears. Man, Hey, there's
celebrate that.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
There's a multi story Barnes and Noble downtown by water
Tower Place and everything. If you go in there at
any point any year, there is a shelf. It is
a front facing end cap of new books about the
eighty five Bears. Oh, here's the stories you haven't heard.
Did I tell you about me three when I stubbed
my toe?
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Stories you haven't heard from the end.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
That's what it's really swollen, like the eighty guffected. Can
we get ten pages out of that.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Eighty five Bears miracle mets? Yeah? No, No, we need
more books on that, more more books, more books.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Here's a guy that we're pitch two weight in early September,
was never seen or heard from again.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
I got a booking me. I was there I can
tell you all about Cleon Jones.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
Let's go exit out about a Fresca, Exit swollen down.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
The Jason Smith Show is my best Friends. I really
just an appreciation moment for the Bears, who are just
such a beautiful hey man.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
We're up to fifty and a half for that over
under this week. Take Chicago taken. I'll tell you what
the lots point.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Think about it.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
If the defense makes a play and they go out
of their way to carry Eberflus off the field like
a conquering hero, and that'll end badly in the streets
of Chicago. Exit out about Afrasca, Exit swollen dub Jason Smith,
Mike Harmon, We got more NFL in the way and
coming up next, evidence that a team is listening to
(15:48):
me because a bold prediction. I rather advice I've been
giving this team for the last big advice, cuge, big
advice last year and a half. Looks like it's gonna
happen in the playoffs. Cool, It's next right here to

Tire rack dot Com is the way tire buying should be.
Speaker 6 (18:39):
Well.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
When you clinch a playoff berth, your first one since
twenty twenty, and you're the only team that's going to
do it today, you get to be the play of
the day.
Speaker 6 (18:46):
To two, pitch to walker and strike three. Call god,
I'm looking with a fastball down the middle. Red's win
a final score six to two, Reds over the Cardinals
today here at Push Stadium.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Okay, I did not need to be trolled with the Reds.
Call I get the red, I get the w even
though Elia Cruz is hitting a buck eighty.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
Since I got there back in a shirt, you don't
need to be trolling me with the Reds. Okay, I
get that. He didn't he didn't even mean, dude, I
didn't mean to. Yeah, that was shit. Welcome.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
That was just an extra trolling, nicely done, ty shirt,
because when I'm subconsciously he knew it when I'm first
here going.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Strike three, I'm going, boy, that's not how you would
expect the team to react when they, you know, the
play by play crew to react when they clinch a playoff. No,
you gotta act like you've been there. Okay. Oh, I
mean that's all that is, okay.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Uh So here it is the call for the team
clinching the playoffs for the first time since twenty twenty.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Flat ball and laft, this is gonna do it. Ian
Half is there and the Cubs are in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
The Cubs are going to be a postseason team.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Here in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
CBS right A network on the call. Yes, the Cubs
have made it back to the postseason.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Had here's Ron Coomer, one of the greats, uh getting
after it.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
It's weird because you would say, if you said to me, hey,
you know, just out of nowhere, when's the last time
the Cubs made the playoffs, I would say, well, a
couple of years ago. But it's been five years. Like
I'm like, wow, I can't believe the last time they
made it was in that shortened season of twenty twenty.
Like that's real.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
I mean.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
I really would have said yeah, a couple of years ago,
they were probably there twenty twenty three and twenty twenty
But going back five years, last time the Cubs in
the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
Yeah, I mean watch a lot of roster overhaul.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
These spending changes with the Rickets and everything that's gone on.
A bunch of would be promising starts and late season failures.
That sounds familiar, doesn't it so because I really thought
we were going to get a different play at the
play of the day and that you were going to
get trolled doubly.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
But yeah, big.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Run obviously the first half of the season, great heroics
Kyle Tucker and Pete crow Armstrong, two of the big
names we were talking about the first half of the season.
Second half, they've struggled, but you're still looking at greatness
in their rotation leading them to their eighty eighth win
today with that victory over Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Yeah, I look big celebration right like it's a It's
could become accepted that when teams do things like clinch
the playoffs and and and it used to be a
very mute at Hey, we're here, you know, we knew
we're getting here.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Let's let's take.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
Her business but now it's become acceptable the last few years, Like, yeah, no,
I celebrate that thing like that. You would look at
that celebration a go they just win the World Series.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
It's no, it's like a pennant. No, it's like people
have been listening to the show.
Speaker 6 (21:29):
Here.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
We'll get there that other story in a minute. But
you know, find your wins on a daily basis. Man
to the point here, you haven't been there in half
a decade, and you had so many years of futility.
Damn it, you make a playoff birth. I don't care
if you're the last wild Guard team. You celebrate the
hell out of it. Uh so, congratulates to the Cubs.
I mean, how do you feel. I mean, it's got
(21:50):
to be okay for you. You've seen the Cubs win
going to the playoffs. I mean being like we have
to broadcast during the World Series. Hey, come on, I
was nice and professional during I wasn't hateful spiteful.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Oh. I don't know. I think I celebrate greatness no
wherever it comes. I think I think you.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
Were outwardly right. Just like week one when we were
there with the Bears and the and the Vikings. I
would say kept being too mad. But what are the
three words you just said to describe you weren't hateful spiteful?
And what were their hateful? Spiteful? And what was the
other one?
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Jaded?
Speaker 1 (22:22):
Jab uh hateful? No, I'd say you're probably low. On
a scale of one to ten, I'd say you're low jaded. No,
you're you're liking a nine and a half.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
Yeah, but that's generally my spiteful.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
Spiteful is kind of a sliding rule for you were
anywhere spiteful. You go from a six to like a nineteen,
Like it's a real sliding span for your way.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
Oh no, harmon seems fine.
Speaker 8 (22:44):
There's like oh.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
No, no, no, he is complete.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Well, I'm a master of the English language, so I
mean I can hide it with some big five out words.
It's like, wait, what was he saying?
Speaker 2 (22:54):
There? Was he really mad? It's like, I don't know
he used that word? What does that mean?
Speaker 3 (22:58):
So yeah, look in the end, I cheer for my
friends and long suffering family members. You know, Mom has
adopted the Rays to a large degree. She's more a
hockey fan. At this point. My dad and she are
already counting days down to lightning hockey, which is pretty cool,
I think, and the.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
Stage of things.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
But you know, my mom was always a Cup fan
growing up in a house full of white Sox fans,
and my dad who just as long as we weren't
fighting and attacking each other, he didn't care. So for them, yeah,
I'm happy to a point. Now, if they're in a
deep playoff run into the World Series, we'll have another
discussion and we'll have to weather that one day to day.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
Now, let's get to something I've talked about for the
better part of the last eighteen months, about a very
specific thing for a big superstar player in basement that Wan.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
Soto can't deliver with runners on base in the ninth
inning and the Mets fall to Owen sixty five when
losing and trailing after eight inn I think he.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
Broke Suarez's ribs the line drive up the middle, and
Suarez just put his body in front of it and
made the play.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Okay, that's not what I'm talking.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
I want to tops now card to his facial expression though,
as that.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Ball is coming back.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
So what have I been saying for show Heyotani the
last year and a half? Guilty back pitch it? Wow?
Speaker 8 (24:18):
Whoa?
Speaker 2 (24:18):
Whoa? That jaded. That's good.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
That's spite foot that slid up to nineteen. You hav
an eighteen and a half nineteen.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Now uh Otani coming back should close. That should be
what it is. You want to preserve Otani's arm and
have him pitchley. Look, you gave him all that money
for the next few years, and when you're gonna have
to start giving him forty million dollars a year in
a few years ago, you're gonna want to say, hey,
we want everything we can get back from this five
innings of no hit ball last night. He comes out
(24:46):
of the game and the bullpen gives it up right away,
right the bullpen, who has been awful. I believe most
home runs in the National League this year, second most
home runs in baseball seventy eight. Now they are the
big X factor of the playoffs. If the Dodgers' bullpen
is this, Dodgers ain't winning the World Series. They're going
to go out in the first round they play. That's
how bad this bullpen has been. So Otani, talking to
(25:09):
the Japanese media, said today, hey, quote, as a player,
if I'm told to go somewhere, I want to be
prepared to do so that's on the mound and perhaps
even in the outfield. Now, why would Otani want to
go out and play the outfield, Because if he plays
the outfield, he can come in to pitch in relief
(25:33):
and they don't lose his position on the field. He
can pitch, then go back to playing outfield, start in
right field, can come into pitch an inning in the
ninth inning, and if he's got to go back out
there in the tenth inning, he can do it.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
Right.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
This is what what if I said eighteen months he
should close? And what do the Dodgers have a bigger
problem than anything else right now? Problems in the bullpen,
big issues in the bullpen. Otani, Yes, would he be
terrific to start, Yes, to go four innings in a
playoff game, But that's really what he's gonna go. You're
not gonna go any more than that. You know he's
gonna throw a lot of pitches. So and then you
got to move your lineup around to have him start.
(26:07):
But if you put him out there in the outfield
and he comes in to close, hey, guess what, man,
You've solved a really big problem, right because he's throwing
the ball really well. He's doing everything you need. All
of a sudden, I'm the shadow GM of the Dodgers.
Or Otani listens to the show, and he listens and
and and and and you know, then says, Hey, this
(26:29):
is what I want to say through an interpreter. So
he tell says he listens to the show and then
gets it out there. Hey, I'll go out play the
outfield because he's open to coming in to pitch in relief.
What have I said for Oti?
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Again? He should be closing.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
And now here's the possibility if this happens and the
Dodgers get a ring, I get a ring because I've
been talking about this for a year and a half.
Speaker 2 (26:50):
Can he bring some of his friends with him from
the starting rotation into the bullpen with him? I thought,
you've been into the outfield?
Speaker 3 (26:56):
Uh. I think as we talked about it a bit yesterday,
that was where we were leading the conversation. And obviously
O Toaddi being the first chip there. And I heard
David Vassey on five point seventy a little as I
was driving and he referenced just kind of obliquely the
struggles Clayton Kershaw's had in his first inning, and he
kind of estimated what his era was and I'm like,
that can't be right, Is that right? Seven six' five
(27:19):
first inning era this?
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Year? Yeah pretty. Amazing that's how that so Much soto got? Paid,
yeah seven sixty see it all and all the.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
Greats but the idea that with The dodgers for so
long in the regular, season we've been charting how many
of those starting pitchers have been. Available now it becomes
the all, right how many of these guys can save
you from having to go to the pen that has
been so. Awful right before last night's, game we were
looking at a four to two oh er and then
(27:48):
they gave up three home runs batting, around and we're
now talking about just absolute implosion time after time for
a couple of guys that you went and spent a
lot of, money of, course a lot of. Money and
Then blake trying and has has. Struggled you, know a
guy that's had great success with The dodgers in the,
past but for Show, Haotani, yeah you're trying to figure, Out,
(28:09):
look the money's in, consequence so you're you're printing money
related to him in terms of his overall, marketing and
if at worst you just have another bobblehead, day which
means a bunch of dope stand in. Line you go sell,
them even though they're all going to get a. Bobblehead
you sell them some merch and food stuffs and beverages
while they're standing in, line and just rake rake in
cash or when they get into the. Ballpark but For, otani,
(28:33):
yeah you've got to be creative as to how to
utilize him as frequently as you. Can if you're gonna
limit the innings that he can, pitch keep him on
the restricted pitch. Count this does open things up For
Dave roberts quite a bit, because especially after those first
couple of, starts he's had a pretty good run.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Here.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
Now Dave roberts was asked about this and he. Didn't
first he didn't kind of rule it, out and then he, said,
ah maybe maybe, not BUT i gotta say, this why?
Not The dodgers defense is terrible. Already you're not gonna win, defensively.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Right you.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
Caught something from The, yes they still haven't gotten over
Losing Trey, turner which was the succession plan For. Corey,
seeger they Get Trey, turner he's gonna. Stay, no they
didn't do.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
That so now we're Moving Mooki, betts and Now Mookie
bets doesn't, hit and we make them play the.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
Infield he's not quite. There the guy's a gold glove right.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Fielder but, no, no, No Toaskar hernandez awful in the, outfield,
Right so is it gonna be any worse With otani
in the outfield even though he hasn't played it in
about four?
Speaker 3 (29:35):
Years take a look at some video Of otani playing
the right field In. Japan not, bad but it doesn't
matter because you're not built to be a great defensive team, anyway,
Right you're not doing, that and it's really no, Worse
so why not do? That you, take you have two.
Weaknesses they have two. Weakness you have the, bullpen you
have your team. Defense, okay you're helping your bullpen with this.
(29:57):
Move your defense is about the, same, right because Again
otani hasn't played there in a, while he doesn't know the.
Corner But i'm pretty Sure otani would be okay in
the outfield if you wanted to do. That SO i
get The dodgers don't want to make that commitment, now
but this is not something WHERE i Think Dave roberts is, no, no,
no not gonna. Happen this is gonna Be, hey if
we need it in the, playoffs we absolutely will do
(30:18):
this because we Need otani to come in and we
need to make sure that the end of games our
team is full of confidence and not just, great here
comes somebody to give it, up, Right, like that's the
big you can you can really help get rid of
a really bad situation right now by doing that with
the specter Of otani coming into the ninth inning of
games or in a big, spot, right he can come
(30:39):
in the eighth, right somebody else come in right, field he,
goes that goes back to right, field picture comes.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
In you can do, that, right you can absolutely do.
That and, again if The dodgers, WIN i want A
World series ring because it was my.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
Idea.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
Yeah the other part to, this and you Know i've
celebrated we have on the show going back to last
year's playoff run and the bullpen. Management he's the figurehead
and knees the face of what goes. On But Dave
roberts more or less said the quiet part out. Loud
it's it's not his decision. Rights it goes up the food.
(31:11):
Chain for DISCUSSION uh and deployment based on the, metrics the,
analytics and and where they're feeling at a at a given,
time right with DIFFERENT uh struggles or the positives that
you've got from different members of that. Bullpen so, yeah
unfortunately he can't give you a straight. Answer but what's
(31:31):
he going to look over and go hol, hell you
want to answer the squad.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
The answer the?
Speaker 3 (31:37):
Question, yes, YES i listened to the. SHOW i mean,
REALLY I I i get a. RING i don't think that's,
it AND i don't think that's. Now The rams still last.
One The rams always a, ring, Right rams always a.
Ring and The lakers if they win With, luca, right
they owe us a ring BECAUSE Jj reddick hates me
and MAYBE i smelled The lakers. ON i didn't Think
i'd get in the position WHERE i could say The
(31:59):
dodgers they probably last. YEAR i, MEAN i really think,
that and happy. BELATED i think it was either yesterday
or maybe it's today Oral herscheiser and his. BIRTHDAY i,
mean because he hates, you SO i think he calls
the games even.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Better BUT i. DID i.
Speaker 1 (32:12):
DIDN'T i didn't think That i'd get to a point, where,
hey The dodgers could owe me a ring for, it
but now really we did.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
That you know they have like fourteen ring championship. Days
we'll just get you. Out which guy do you want
the replica of do you want The Freddie? FREEMAN i,
mean The otani is going to be the most valuable
after you're dead and, gone they picked through your.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
Stuff someone will be able to get a couple of
bucks for that. One, WELL i get my own, bobblehead
then a ring or my own bobblehead and our eighty first.
Bubblehead me with a microphone pointing to the bullpen And
otani warming up behind, me like in a small figurine
behind me like they did In chicago.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Yesterday guys that we know that they're the section one
away like they're the rapid White sox. Fans they do
the blogs and the, podcasts and they they welcome people
in and THEY'RE i mean they're they're a much nicer
version Of pantone before they got the thrown bobblehead night last,
night it's pretty clean And Ozzie gean And Chuck garfine
from the broadcast squad went and said a nice hearty
(33:10):
hello to the.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
Crew so you could be that next. Guy, okay all,
right all, Right i'm there. Again Bobble, Okay i'm. Good i'm.
Good rings. Bobbleheads, yeah every team IN. La i'm helping
every team IN la win win.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
Titles help you clo it. Is let's worry about this first. Skip,
yeah let's worry about this time out to find out
what's trending in the wide world of. Sports From Martin,
White sam up what you got for?

Speaker 2 (36:39):
Edu So thursday night football, tomorrow The bills, Play yeah they.
Do bills are really. Good doesn't matter who they're. Playing
well it does, Here oh it does.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Well miami Visiting buffalo in a game that would probably
be the biggest upset of the twenty.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Twenties but.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
The big stakes for tomorrow's game stakes, steak operative, word.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
Maybe a love.
Speaker 1 (37:02):
Steak you, know there's not enough we think about ordering,
food you, know nights in a. Week there's not enough
place to deliver. Steak you, know like is there like
there's just like a steak fast food? Place, yeah what
do you got a steak and POTATO A we'll deliver
that to. You that's like a fast food steak. PLACE i,
mean not a burger, either just FAST i mean because
you could you can dial. Up you, know this is
The chili's or.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
Whatever tomahawk's steak.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
SIRLOIN i should go bring my Little thermo fast row
pain grill and we should just fire it up in the.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
Courtyard let's get fast.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
Food that's kind of what you're, saying fast food. Steaks,
uh there are big steaks for. Tomorrow because, look we've
told you that you know. This anything that happens On
monday And thursday night in THE nfl is multiplied by
five because it's the only. Game it gains all the, attention.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
And mainly.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
Teams know that during the course of the season they're
gonna be embarrassed in certain. Games, well the bad teams.
Do but when it happens at one o'clock on A, sunday.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
It's much it can be, okay, yeah than it is
on A thursday night when you're the only. Game things
are so bad From miami right. Now if you did
a power rankings of, hey who's the worst? Organizations like
who's team number thirty two because they have the least,
future it would be The Miami dolphins because not only
do they have the biggest, mess they have the biggest
(38:21):
cleanup because they're paying a lot of guys and a
head coach that's probably gonna go at some, point and
how do you clean this? Up like The, browns they're a, mess,
Right but, okay this Is, hey we're gonna draft a
quarterback and we're gonna. Build we're not spending all kinds
of money on different. Players we don't have to get
out from all these different contracts and build a team one.
Way and now we gotta tear it down to the
studs with a new head. Coach we're gonna keep our
(38:42):
head coach Because stefanski is a pretty good head coach
and you just have to bleed it out to that
bad quarterback contract that's just sitting off in the.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Weeds.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
Right the biggest mess is easily The dolphins because not
only where they're, at but what they have to do
to dig out of. This, right we've already Said Tyreek
hill is gonna be. Gone they're gonna trade him at
some point to a tongue OF i, looa this is
his last year with The, dolphins because he's gonna wind
up being somewhere else next. Year but if The dolphins
get embarrassed tomorrow, night AND i don't see there being
(39:09):
any other result other than The dolphins getting embarrassed by
The Buffalo bills because they didn't show up for week
one and you get boat raced by a team where
you just, say, wow, man how do you show up like?
That and then week two you lose it home at one.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
O'CLOCK i, mean like that's the whole big thing to, Say,
hey when when you're when the Remember Jason cole last,
week The dolphins have won at home at one o'clock
over In september eighty five percent of the, time you,
know like that, usually, yeah statistically it has worn, out,
Right so so that's a, thing right because.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
Even brady, Struggled, yeah going down there right? Times did
you see? This see how do The patriots lose this?
Speaker 3 (39:49):
Game come, on maybe we'll get The dolphins squadyre like,
god they don't match up at.
Speaker 1 (39:53):
All doesn't matter in that. Heat teams wilt and The
dolphins win these. Games but not only they sit at
zero and. Two their point differential is minus thirty one
if they get, embarrassed if they are embarrassed against The
bills against a division, opponent, right because now you're talking about, okay,
man we really we could be the worst team in
this division by. Far mike McDaniel's not going to make
(40:16):
it out Of september as the head, coach and it
may be after this. WEEK i know there's been a. Lot,
well McDaniel might not. Be you lose and get boat
raced by The, bills even though The bills are way,
better we, understand but you, boat you get lose like.
That it's as embarrassing a three week stretch you could
possibly have That tomorrow night might be the last game
For mike McDaniel as The dolphins head. Coach like, that
(40:38):
those are the stakes that The dolphins are playing for tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
Night, yeah they've been.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
Embarrassing and even going back into the off season after
you had the blow up In Tyreek hill SAYING i
want out of, here and that's never been. Bridged you
got to and some of these odd press. CONFERENCES i
appreciate honesty to a point in these, pressers, right coach
speak and and quarterback cliches at some point still have
(41:03):
their place where you've got to keep stuff in the locker,
room particularly two weeks into a. Season How Chris greer
still has a, JOB i have no. Idea as much
AS i talk about polls on the grand scheme OF.
Gms there's another one that's a head. Scratcher but he's
got the OPPORTUNITY i think coming out of this game
if it does go according to the script minus twelve
(41:26):
again the spread on this, one that you start looking
to Offload. Hill he still has some off field stuff
that needs to be cleaned, up but you're looking at
a Chan you're starting to look at every bit of
those component parts and you're selling them for scrap as
you get ready for whatever comes forward in twenty twenty.
Six but, yeah the potential for the abject failure is.
(41:47):
There tomorrow they get. Killed it may be his last
game as The jets. Higher more BIG nfl quarterback News
