Speaker 2 (00:30):
Happy New Year's stinking genius, No baby, oh big boy,
Let's go Happy New Year.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
Let's do this touch up yet?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Stay touchdown? Nitny lyons lead back up to nine with
the extra point pending. Listen. I don't know how to
tell you this. Alex and Shay running the show tonight.
When you don't check in with Arnie the moment the
previous show wraps up, his anxiety level reaches what about
(00:57):
the eighty sixth level of concern? What did you hear that?
Because because they wouldn't answer me, because you started texting Shane, Shane,
you got me? Can you hear me?
Speaker 4 (01:10):
They don't answer me.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
They I don't know what they're doing. Seriously, have no idea.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
What do you think They're not in studio. I don't
know where they are. This is a national network, dude,
We'll get to you.
Speaker 5 (01:21):
Tight Shirt's having a cigarette, sun Shy's asleep.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Just put I'm here. I was here.
Speaker 5 (01:30):
Up.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
You know what he said to me blank, he goes,
I was just.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Your ass out is probably what he said.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
Here He's like, I was just giving you guys your space.
Man who talks like that? Who talks like that?
Speaker 2 (01:43):
I was? I knew right away whenever I didn't hear
the moment that the show ended from Alliott and by
the way, to pull back the curtain, Arni and I
dial into the LA studios because he's in uh, well
like New Hampshire something like that. So I'm like, yes, exactly,
I'm in God's country. And then the guys are out
in that heathenist world of not just kidding. Theyre out
(02:05):
in Los Angeles, so we all kind of make this
triangle work. And Arnie's very needy. I mean, it's just
and right away, if you don't let him know that
you've got him and let him.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Yell at you, very meticulous.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
I don't know if that's the word.
Speaker 5 (02:16):
I would use it is, I hook up at the
exact same moment to the second.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
To this every day, every time I.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
Fill in to the exact second, I go ahead and
hit the button when I connect every time.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Everything and by the way, just out of Curriot, that's
more of a creature of habit kind of a thing.
Whenever it comes to it. It's not about being meticulous.
How early before the show do you dial in?
Speaker 4 (02:39):
One hour and six minutes?
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Slang. This guy will literally text me on Friday, two
weeks before his shift, I'm connecting McFly. Are you ready?
Speaker 5 (02:47):
Yeah, let's go come on our five minutes seconds.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Wow, Well we're pumped to be filling in tonight. We
will take you right in to the new year twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Which means we would have thought that we get the.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Last word on twenty twenty four. Yes we do, yes,
and every time zone. I don't think we get to
ring in the new year on the West coast, so
Bernie will get to do that right after we're done.
But in the Eastern, in the Central, what in the
in Arizona in the Mountain time zone, we get to
(03:24):
tell you happy New Year in twenty twenty fives.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
If we don't have any more daylight savings. What does
that do to everything?
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Nothing?
Speaker 2 (03:32):
No, I don't think it really. The sun will stay
out a little bit longer, which means you when you
go dark at five o'clock.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
You'll still be like noon NFL games, right.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Yeah, of course, I mean it wouldn't change any times
or anything on that front.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
Oh does Arizona, Indiana in places like that?
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Yeah, I mean it would still kick off at the
same time and everything. I mean, I at least I
assume so. But yeah, you're worrying about things that are
very much in the future. We got program to get
to tonight as we come to your live to ti
rack dot com Studios, ti rack dot COMALELP. You get
there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard
protection in over ten thousand recommended installers tire i rack
(04:09):
dot com the way tire buying should be Now, Arnie, Tonight,
we are live during the Fiesta Bowl. We're watching the
first game of the quarterfinals, so we'll have live reaction,
instant reaction to that game. Tonight. A pretty good football game,
you know. Penn State jumped out to a fourteen zip
lead early, Boise battled back they cut it to a
three point game just to start the second half. But
(04:33):
Penn State respawns a couple of big plays during their
most recent scoring drive, and here we sit with seven
twenty two to go in the third quarter. Penn State
twenty four, Boise State fourteen. It was an eleven play,
seventy five yard drive that put Penn State's lead back
up to a two score game. And it was a
(04:54):
drive where they converted a third and fourteen and had
a couple of big plays, including kateron allen twenty three
yard run to really put him in business in Boise territory.
So all those nerdy notes and numbers aside, what have
you made so far this matter?
Speaker 5 (05:10):
When it was fourteen nothing, I'm like, okay, it's about
to be twenty one nothing, because I believe they just fumbled.
By the way that Penn State, if you slowed it down,
I'm not so sure he had any feed in in
uh in Fair territory. I think he might have caught
it after that. But that's beside the.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Boy which one on the on the touchdown, No on.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
The on the funnel recovery by gent Onti's fumble on
the yeah on the sideline where it was gonna be.
It was gonna be twenty one nothing. This would have
been over twenty one nothing. Next thing, you know, Penn
State gives it back because and I was saying this right,
and Chris I swear I was saying this right.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
It was going on.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
Penn State just had a huge gain. They're of fourteen
to nothing. They're inside like the twenty yard line and
they're about to score again.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
There's no doubt.
Speaker 5 (05:53):
They're about the tree making twenty one nothing, and they're rushing.
And I understand that you want to keep them back
off their heel and keep him back on their heels
and all that stuff, but slow down and take a
breath so you don't make a mistake. And that's exactly
what they did. They made a mistake, and it's turned
around this whole ball game from that point on where
it could have been twenty one nothing to where it
(06:14):
is right now twenty four to fourteen.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
But it was really seventeen fourteen at that point.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Yeah. Well, I I thought the key in this game
would be someone's going to force a couple of turnovers
and it would lead to either Penn State rolling or
Boise State making this thing a little bit tighter than
it should be, But so far it's been a push
on that front with turnovers right now, penalties have been interesting.
(06:41):
Boise's committed eight mistakes so far. And you know, we're
watching ashton Gent try to get going. He's only got
forty two yards so far tonight, and as a team,
Boise State just can't get the running game going yet.
And a big touchdown came the third court on that
it's not a trick play, but where they just had
a bust in coverage from Pen State?
Speaker 5 (07:00):
Do I dare say it? Ash and Jend welcome to
a team with a real defense?
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (07:05):
I Do I go ahead and say that? Or will
I get ripped all over the place for saying something
like that?
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Well, I mean, do you consider Oregon to haven't?
Speaker 4 (07:11):
Really?
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Not really?
Speaker 6 (07:12):
No, not really, You don't consider the organ Okay, they're
a good defense, They're okay early in the year though,
and yes he had a good game against Oregon, but
now it's the Penn State defense.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
A good game against Oregon?
Speaker 5 (07:24):
Yeah, well, one hundred and seventy five yards, one hundred
and ninety yards something like that.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
That's that's just a good game to you twenty five carries,
one hundred and ninety two yards and three scores.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
I said he had a good game.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
That's an amazing game, dude.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
Okay, so I'm not allowed to bring up then and
then he only has uh forty two yards and so
it's it's not a real defense that he's played against
right now.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
No, I'm not arguing with it. But you're just like
dumping all over him. He said, welcome to a real defense.
Speaker 5 (07:51):
I mean exactly what I said, welcome to a real defense.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
My gosh, I'm not fighting with you over there. So
you're telling me now he should drop on the draft
boards and he stink because Penn State has done a
good job of limiting him and they're still five forty
two to go in the third quarter. Yeah, I didn't
see its good. I'm glad they cut off his mic.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
I mean, this dude has been pretty damn consistent all
season long, and the key to try to be boys
he has been to stop him and no one can
stop him. They're not they haven't completely stopped him yet.
They've slowed him down, but at any moment, dude, this
guy can explode and make a game of it.
Speaker 5 (08:23):
Yeah, Yeah, but you're not playing San Jose Community College.
Now you're playing Penn State TA.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
You continue to ignore the fact that I bring up
what he did against Oregon, who is playing tomorrow in
the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
Yeah, no, I and he had a fantastic game. Okay,
is that better?
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Is out?
Speaker 4 (08:36):
A better?
Speaker 2 (08:36):
There you get? I think in one ninety two that's
a that's an amazing game in the world of college
football that doesn't really have individual rushing performances like that.
Speaker 5 (08:46):
By the way, if you and I were living in
Arizona and you said let's go to a sports bar
to watch the game, I'd say, you know what, Chris,
is cheaper if we just go buy tickets and we
go to the game.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
Did you see the viage tickets were for the game?
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Stewartman Dell tweeted that, right, who writes for the athletic
I mean, first of all, where are those seats.
Speaker 5 (09:06):
Forty dollars a piece, sixteen dollars for the Peach Bowl
and at thirteen bucks for.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
The in the Peach Bowl And said, now, I don't know,
they haven't really given a full view of the upper
deck here at the Fiesta Bowl. I was asking the
guys about it, but it's it's almost as if, you know,
you look at the Boise State fans showed out Boise
State fans. They have They've brought it right. It looks great,
(09:32):
but I haven't seen like the upper deck. They haven't
really pulled away, like is that where is there eight
people sitting up there or what? Because probably I don't know,
and they're being kind of smart about the shots they've
shown so far. In fact, every single time he kind
of pulls back, you try to get a look at
the upper deck, You're like, what's a crowd? Look like?
They don't. You can't really tell. Because I feel like
(09:53):
the great mistake that was made was not putting these
quarterfinal games on campus sites. As bad as the first
round of the playoffs were was however you would whatever
the proper nomenclature would be. I felt like what saved
them was just the craziness in Columbus, how wild it
(10:14):
was in Happy Valley, the moo, the energy, the juice
that was permeating through Austin. Pains me to say, who
am I leaving out? That had an awesome home environment
last week? An here it's just like, ugh, it's in
a bull situation it's in a bull setting. So I
don't And you know what, like we brought this up before.
Speaker 5 (10:35):
I mean, people just don't have the money to fly
to a quarter finals game, take a flight at a hotel,
you know, and get tickets to the game, which I
guess is really cheap. They're gonna wait till the finals,
or they're just gonna sit at Oman watch it on
TV and not spend anybody at all there, Chris, I.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Don't college football as somebody who loves it, follows it,
eats it, breathes it, lives it a guy living in
college football worlds. That's my twenty four seven three sixty five.
I don't know if there is any sport that constantly
gets in its fans pocket more than college sports slash
college football, because not only do you have exorbitant ticket prices,
(11:15):
even though that get in price was like sixteen bucks,
if you try to go through the school, I'd be
willing to better be like what probably one sixty ticket.
I'm just I'm just guessing you got to pay nil now, right,
You got to pay for the players. It's got to
beet fan funded. And I just I feel like that
you could do and then you're traveling, right, you're going
from Boisey to Arizona. You're going from Penn State to Arizona.
(11:39):
You're going from Land. You can yeah, but they're not free.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
No, no, you could, but you where you are, you
could drive to a lot of games, right, that's right. Yeah,
you could do that, which is.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
But gas isn't free either, Arnie.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
No, no, no, that's true.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
So I mean you're like, oh, yeah, you can just
drive there. Yeah, well they're freaking expensive as hell with
turnpikes and gas. My point is the thing you can
do is put it on. Put it on the campuses,
do something to help your friends out a little bit
where they could be there now the opposing fans would
still have to travel. Hey be better, right if your
team win to where they could host a playoff game.
But I don't. I don't like this now. We don't
(12:15):
have the volume up, we're not kind of engaged in
what that feeling in that atmosphere is right now. But
I'm willing to bet you any amount of dollars that
I have right now that it would be infinitely more
juiced if this was taking place right now Penn State.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
All right, I'm one hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
I agree with you.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
There, it'd be a better atmosphere, the game would feel better,
it would feel bigger.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
And you know what it is, the students aren't here.
They're not at this game.
Speaker 5 (12:42):
They're they're on their campus, they're they're at a home
and it's really it should be partly for the students also,
And we're not getting any of the students in this part.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
I don't know, dude. Some of those shots they show
the Boise section seems like there's a lot of students there.
But to your point, you're right, you don't get that
true college atmosphere of feel. Let's see that they still
have done an incredible job. I can't tell if there's
a single soul in that upper deck, can you know?
Speaker 5 (13:08):
I'm looking hard to It's like they dull the whites
or something.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
I'm like, just make it a little brighter. I can't tell.
Is that the Is that the top of the stadium.
I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
I can't tell Boise State. It's paydirt. But there's a flag.
It's twenty four to twenty. You're probably a little bit
ahead of me, Arnie. What's the flag?
Speaker 4 (13:27):
I don't know. Actually I'm a little behind your right.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
Oh yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Oh and it's
on Boise State. So a touchdown will be wiped off
the board for an illegal hands in the face. What
a shot? What is shot by the ESPN camera crew?
They cut away to the Boise State fans that are
going crazy, and literally the moment they find out that
it's a it's a foul on their right guard for
(13:50):
illegal hands in the face, everyone just kind of drops.
You can see their energy. But boys, he's got to
cut out the mistakes. I think what's at their tenth
penalty right with that?
Speaker 5 (14:00):
To me, I think that's going to be the next
major rule change in football where if they call a
flag and it ends up being a big play and
there's a flag on it, the officials could get together
if they want and go, you know what, and that
wasn't so egregious that it affected the play.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
It was a big play. We're gonna let it go.
Speaker 5 (14:17):
We're picking up the flag. Let's do something like that.
I can see that the next major rule change in football.
I can't not with gambling. No, you kidding me.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
You realize what you're setting up. Look back to the
Texas Georgia GA you know, I.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
Gotta tell you there's been more picked up flags.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
And let's see the last five years than my entire
time watching the NFL. I never would see a picked
up flag when I was younger. Never they would say, oh,
we're picking up the flag, No big deal. I've seen
it at least ten times in the last five years.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
My favorite thing about this is there's no way, I
mean no way anyone can go back, can fact check
you on this. We just have to sit back on here. Yes,
you're right.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
I guess you're right.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
I got you're right.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
I mean, but I don't Yeah, Einstein.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
I assure don't think man, that you could ever get
in the world where they can wait and see what
kind of played is. You know that hands in the
face wherever they often that was incidental breaking back. Oh
my goodness, that'd be fantastic. So we're heading to the
fourth quarter so far, just your thoughts on this game
(15:28):
in general thought before we move on. Penn States. Penn
States got the lead twenty four to four.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Ten States got the lead. Boise.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
The first thing that comes to my mind is, yes,
they deserve to be here. I agree, they deserve to,
you know, be playing in this game. I'm still, you know,
not crazy about the whole by thing, but that's that's
something else we can get into later on the way
the whole thing played out. But the one thing for
sure is they deserve to be in this team in
this twelve team playoff. And they may or may not
(15:59):
go totally told any team out there, but they're doing
a damn good job against Penn State, and they did
a good job as you mentioned earlier this year against Oregon.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Well, if you're stuck with us tonight, welcome. We're gonna
have some fun over the next four hours. We're gonna
react to this and have instant reaction to the win.
I look down here and I saw Roman Numeral two
was looking ahead to the three quarterfinal games tomorrow. What
a weird New Year's Day though college football hasn't necessarily
I don't want to say embraced in New Year's Day,
(16:29):
but it's not as big of a deal and for
some reason as it has been. Remember you'd have like
ten bowl games and now you've only got the three tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (16:35):
I was taken the same thing that like after it
was back when I was younger. January first, and that's
pretty much it. There was no college football after that day.
Then slowly we got you know, the playoffs on the
sixth to the seventh. Now we're stretching it out, but
really January first, when we wrapped it up and that
was it, you were bummed out and you had to
(16:56):
be all into the NFL at that point.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
I dig that they have decided to put these playoff
games on the first I miss. Now have you been
into the other bowl games? Have you found yourself watching?
I mean today I was all about it.
Speaker 5 (17:09):
Yeah, today I was into the Michigan Alabama game like
everybody else. And no, I mean I watched the other
games a little bit, but I really wasn't into it
like I was in the Michigan Alabama game. But I
was just ready for the Penn State Boysey game and
the three tomorrow. So no, not really, I just didn't
get into it all that much.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
You think, in your opinion that if Arizona would have
been in a bowl game, that would have probably drawn
you in a little bit more.
Speaker 5 (17:38):
I mean, it still would have been nothing, but I
would have watched it, you know, I would have.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
I would have been.
Speaker 5 (17:44):
Nothing, So it would have been would have been the
meaning those Bowl Games is like everybody else.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Well, okay, well then let me post this to you.
You say it's meaningless. So that means Michigan beats Alabama
today nineteen to thirteen. Right, Illinois beat South Carolina twenty
one to seventeen. That doesn't mean anything for the debates
that we've had about whether or not those two teams
belonged in the playoff.
Speaker 5 (18:07):
What like whether Illinois deserves to be in the playoffs
or or whether, like you know, whether Michigan or Alabama deserves.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
To be in it. I mean Alabama, I mean Alabama.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
South Carolina and Alabama were considered two of the four
teams that were the last teams out. South Carolina got
beat today by Illinois twenty one. Alabama got beat by
hold on, let me make sure you know this. Alabama
got beat by Michigan nineteen to thirteen. Miami lost Iowa State.
I kind of feel like, if you wanted to make
(18:38):
a statement that you belong in the playoffs, regardless of
what the roster looks like, especially if you're starting quarterback
and star receivers playing, you got to go out and
win the damn football game. Now, some would argue and
say no, like you just did, it's a meaningless game.
But you're not factoring what happens in these games into
that argument.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
No, Because I mean we would take to Miami game.
Speaker 5 (19:00):
They played their quarterback for half the game, So there's
a built in excuse right there. Sure Alabama could have
been so disappointed about not making the twelve team playoff
that they just didn't give a damn. There was just
no motivation. And you could tell there was no motivation.
They were town sixty nothing in the first they had
nothing coming out of you know, from jumpstarts. So I
(19:22):
mean they even could tell it was a meaningless game,
otherwise they would have been more motivated for it.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
I just feel like, if you want, if you want
to be able to back up your argument meaningless or not,
you go win that football game. Because Wayne chrus So,
you force people, you force people aren'tie to basically say, oh, yeah,
(19:48):
they ended up winning their bowl game and they looked
better while SMU and Indiana and we'll see what happened
to the boy gets smoked. Yeah, maybe they did belong
in there. I don't know, Maybe I'm crazy about this.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
Well, I saw something the three games at Alabama lost
this year and I'm not exactly sure the exact point spread.
I think one was sixteen, one was fourteen, another one
was sixteen. Sure, Nick Saban did that three times in
his career at Alabama. It happened three times this year
for Alabama. And I don't think it's the biggest bowl
(20:23):
loss in all of like bowl history or the second
biggest bowl loss when it comes to point spread for
a team to lose.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Yeh six, that's pretty impressive. Their six point loss is
their second biggest bowl loss.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
They've had six No, they're sixteen.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Was Oh oh, I thought you said in a bowl game. Yeah, no,
they don't. Get me wrong. I'm not trying to defend
them and say that they belong. I think my point
is you want to say these are meaningless bowl games,
you won't get too much pushback from me, But you
got to go out and win your game if you're
going to cry about not getting in the playoffs. That's
my point, right.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
I understand your point.
Speaker 5 (21:00):
And you know, maybe they were thinking too little, too late,
and maybe you do have a point there, but it
still was a meaningless game and that you could tell
there was no motivation.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
But they were saying no motivation.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
They crap in the first well.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
It was pouring their first twenty two play and I
wrote this down earlier. The first twenty two plays for
Alabama netted negative three yards. There were two fumbles and
interception and a turnover on downs and then they If
you want to say they didn't have any motivation, then
why do they come back and end up like in
the game late? I mean there was motivation. They just
(21:34):
got punched in the face.
Speaker 5 (21:35):
I would have loved what they said to them at halftime.
I can only imagine what the coaches said doing at
half time. I mean, no, ro what fumbled two interceptions
in a fumble in the first is that what it was?
Speaker 2 (21:46):
He was miserable, Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. He had the
one that slipped out of his hand. It was wild. Okay,
oh my gosh, we got a break. We'll fight about
college football if you want tonight. I will sit back
and enjoy watching this Fiesta Bowl that's headed to the
fourth quarter. I guess I should say in the middle
of the fourth quarter. Somewhat in doubt. We mentioned though
the big turnover and how that could hurt Boise State.
They just had a big interception as they were driving.
(22:09):
Then Penn State got a stupid personal foul afterwards where
one of their guys took a cheap shot on Ashton genty,
so Penn State gets the football back. They're up twenty
four to fourteen with fourteen forty eight to go in
the game, deep in their own territory. Arnie and I
will keep you covered all night long right here on
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Were you sitting in last night too, Arnie? When was
the last time you were in this seat? Was it
last week? Christmas week for Smith and Harmon?
Speaker 4 (22:47):
Yes, I did.
Speaker 5 (22:51):
Christmas, the day after Christmas and a little bit before Christmas.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Was confusing question, Yes.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
It was a very confusing question.
Speaker 2 (22:59):
I thought it was pretty straight up all right back.
Speaker 5 (23:01):
By the way, well, the only reason you got me
but I was texting a friend of mine who works
at Fox Sports Radio, and he is at the Fiesta Bowl, okay,
and he's about to get in his car and drive
over to the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles.
Speaker 4 (23:18):
How great is that? By the way, who's good. How
many people.
Speaker 5 (23:21):
Get to go to two of the you know, four
playoff games. So, because I was asking him how full
was he says it was about eighty five to ninety
percent fall, So there was a good crowd out there
because I thought I saw that it was empty and
they blocked off the upper tier.
Speaker 4 (23:34):
But I was completely wrong. So well, I'm about, hey, yeah,
I'm shock.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
I'm with you. They haven't shown it at all. I
figured that would be kind of a big deal, right.
Speaker 5 (23:42):
Right, right, He said, there's people up there. There's no
doubt there's people up there. So he said, matter of
fact exactly, he said eighty five percent.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
I think maybe a little bit more.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (23:53):
And he's actually leaving the game now to get a start.
He's going to drive halfway and then stop a little
bit like in Blythe, California. It's expensive for you know,
hotels around the Rose Bowl.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
Yeah, and then make the trick to the Rose Bowl
and get ready to watch that game right off.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
That is Colorado River Reservation there in Blythe. It's a
five hour and forty one minute drive from Phoenix to Pasadena.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
Yes, that's not too bad. That's a piece of kid
bad At.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
All glad whomever this unknown Fox Sports Radio cohert is
that he is stopping to get some rest. Did I
mention that we're coming to you live from the tire
rack dot Com studios. Tire rack dot com will help
you get there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free
road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tire
rack dot com the way tire banks should be. I
(24:42):
asked just about being here in this slot, because I
think you were right back in hour one. There are
some juice tonight on on the X. There are some
juice tonight yea from the from the Fox Sports Radio army.
I mean, there's good stuff from top to bottom. Maybe
there is more people that are sitting in this year,
like Matt who writes, yes, Arnie you throw up during
(25:04):
every show it's called your picks. Well, that seems wow
of a cheap shot.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
I didn't even see that one. I didn't even know
we'd just see that one.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
I just came in at stinking to your wanted plank
show em Ryan, Yes, Arnie throws up during every show.
It's called Arnie's picks. My man, I don't know why
it's you know, technology, we're up there to go a
bit challenging. I'm not creative enough to make up a tweet.
Paul writes, I turned forty last night, the last month.
(25:33):
I'm too old to crash on a buddy's couch or
waiting hours for a new ber. You guys are stuck
with me in my fifty tweets tonight, Happy New Year. Okay, okay, it's.
Speaker 4 (25:44):
Funny put that out. I'm usually like that.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
You're usually what like the person that would just crash
on the couch?
Speaker 4 (25:50):
No, you know, just stay at home and do nothing.
Speaker 5 (25:52):
But I turned on the TV earlier today and by
the way, are they gonna why are they going to
continue calling it Dick Clark's rock in New Year's Eve?
Can we no disrespect to Dick Clark? But you know
a lot of the young people don't even know who
the hell he is. He's he's been dead for what
a decade or so?
Speaker 2 (26:10):
What would be your guest on when Dick Clark passed away?
Speaker 4 (26:13):
I'd say fifteen years ago twelve?
Speaker 2 (26:16):
And remember there was there was some uncomfortable moments whenever
he still hosted the dick Y New Year's Rocket Eve.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
Right exactly exactly.
Speaker 5 (26:25):
But I was thinking, I'm like, you know, it'd be
nice to go down the Times Square and hang out for.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
New Year's Eve. I would do that. I would have
some fun with that. No, he would maybe next year.
Maybe next year.
Speaker 5 (26:36):
Can I call you from the if we were, if
you were doing a show and go, Chris, I'm out
here in Times Square.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
I think we'd be able to hear with the craziness
that's going on. It's kind of cool though, because you
mentioned not really having big plants and at our age,
not you know, necessarily partying like we once did. But
every every so often my studios are at my home
and I got like a detached word doing this life
from a garage. And every time I go in, there's
(27:02):
my two daughters sitting there with my wife and the dogs, like,
oh look at this. You losers don't have anywhere to
go but New Year's Eve. It's always nice whenever you
know where everyone is right, and it's always nice for
us to remind you that some of you are listening
right now. Maybe on the West coast you've started your pregame.
On the East coast, you're getting ready for that midnight
(27:23):
kiss Central time zone, maybe you're going from one party
to another, but allow one statement to ring true throughout
the next two hours, the next twenty four hours, or
however long you plan to celebrate twenty twenty five and beyond.
Don't drink and drive, man, No, do no. There's so
many options that you have out there right now. Lift uber,
a taxi, cab, calling a friend, sleeping in your car, whatever.
(27:47):
Don't make a decision tonight, on a night that's supposed
to be about new beginnings and a fresh start that's
going to ruin your entire life or potentially ended. So
be smart, party, enjoy it. However you celebrate the new year,
do not drink and drive. Give me a little mister PSA.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
Man, I love it. I can't say it better than that.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Jason B. Diamond said the Dodgers winning the twenty twenty
four World Series was the best moment of my entire life.
Listening to Arnie and Plank is a close second. That's
a good life you're living, Jason. That's a good life.
And Sean has accepted his award. My man at Shady
Sean Ford twenty apparently his birthday might be April twentieth
(28:27):
has accepted his award. I think maybe self proclaimed, but
you know who's here to blame him as listener and
tweeter slash exer of the Year. Congratulations, sh well deserved
you won the award in my book. Oh, Boise State
gets a big play here, it's gonna be too little,
too late. They convert on a third and thirteen. They'll
(28:48):
push the ball in a Penn State territory.
Speaker 5 (28:50):
Loose State fans look too get like they are right,
you're gonna win the game, you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (28:55):
They're like, yeah, man, we're gonna win the chair. And
they just look so bummed out.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
ThReD he won to fourteen in this football game tonight.
Penn State cut it to a one score game. They
forced a three and out on the first drive for
Penn State in the third quarter. On the next drive,
five plays eighty three yards in two minutes and twenty
(29:21):
eight seconds. Penn State seventeen, Boise State fourteen. From that
moment forward, here's the offensive drive chart for Boise State. Interception,
missed field goal, interception, and Penn State went out tacked
on a touchdown, another touchdown, and it's where we are today.
(29:43):
Just too many mistakes, man, That's going to be the
story of the game tonight. Yeah, Boise fans might feel
like they had a chance to win it, but I
felt like this was going to be a game that
would be about trying to slow down Ashton Gent. He
just now got over one hundred yards. I've had to
give him the ball thirty times to do it, and
Penn State's done a good job of slowing him down.
So number one, I think Penn State's won that battle.
(30:06):
And the number two is turnovers. And right now Penn
State is plus two against a Boise State team that
had protected the ball well all season long and not
turn it over. But you cannot give a Penn State
team like this one more opportunities when you're a double
digit underdog, and Penn State is going to advance in
the semi final. So let me pay off my teams.
Speaker 5 (30:26):
And by the way, I think I'm gonna stick with
it what I said now we're number one, because it's
looking more and more true now, mister Gent, welcome to
a real defense in Penn State.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
I thought they did a pretty good job against him.
Speaker 5 (30:38):
I know he had over one hundred yards, but thirty
carries three point five average. They did about as great
of a job as you could do against a great
running back like him.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Did you do you ever? You don't. I literally just
said that.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
No, I have to reemphasize.
Speaker 5 (30:52):
I have to reemphasize things that sometimes you don't make
a good point on right.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
You're right, You've got to clear up my point to
me because you just literally said the exact same thing
that I said about.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
From left to right.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
Again, that works, that's fine. Yes, he never listens to me.
This is what's going and teach I might as well
just be speaking into an empty room. With that in mind,
Penn State now advances to the semi finals. They'll await
the winner of Notre Dame George in the Orange Bowl
on January ninth. Do you base now their path wasn't
the most brutal, Right, They get SMU, they get Boise State.
(31:26):
Two teams that both deserve the shot in the playoffs,
but two teams that they were double digits favorites against. Right,
that's not you don't usually get into a playoff setting
where you're a double digit favored over a team in
any sport. With that in mind, you consider them a
championship contender. In other words, you look at him and say, hey,
I could see Penn State winning the national time.
Speaker 5 (31:47):
Oh of course, actually brought this up when the rankings
came out, and we said, let's look at the path
that Penn State has.
Speaker 4 (31:55):
Sure they get an easy.
Speaker 5 (31:57):
SMU team, and I'm saying easy for the most part,
playing Boise not world beaters, and then of course after
that they could either get a team that has a
brand new quarterback or Notre Dame, so eventually you have
to play somebody good. I thought they had the easiest
path to the finals out of just about anybody out there.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
Really, out of anybody out there.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
Do you think that their path was easier than Texas's.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
Well, Texas did have Clemson in the first round, so
that's that was a little bit of a pushback. I
remember that was a one possession game in the fourth.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Well see that that was a four loss Clemson team.
Speaker 5 (32:34):
I understand that, but it was still one position game
in the fourth And Arizona State's actually a lot of
people saying underrated, so they could put up a good
fight against Texas, But Texas is still gonna have to
play the winner of the Ohio State Oregon game, so
that that's a major, major game.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
You would rather see the Ohio State, or or you
would rather see the Notre Dame Georgia winner than the
Ohio State.
Speaker 4 (32:54):
Or absolutely one hundred percent of are you wrong on that?
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Oh No, Notre Dame looks pretty damn good man. I
Notre Dame is gonna be Georgia tomorrow, and I'll probably
change my mind two more times over the next three
hours that were on the air. But I really like
Notre Dame a bit a lot. But here here's the
other thing, though, You say, Oh, Texas's path is more challenging.
Where does Texas play in the semi finals if they
get there?
Speaker 4 (33:16):
They played in the Cotton Bowl, That's right.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Where's cotton ball?
Speaker 4 (33:19):
Right, Dallas?
Speaker 2 (33:20):
So Arlington? Yeah, I mean, so you're in a really
good spot if they get there. But Penn State just
gets another interception, So that'll be ballgame. Thirty one to
fourteen is going to be your final score, and Penn
State will advance to the semi finals of the College
Football Playoff. And I wonder, I wonder if this gets
people off James Franklin's I was just.
Speaker 5 (33:41):
About to ask you that they know they're gonna say no,
it doesn't now, because all they did was beating that
sem you team and the Boise State team. You have
to beat a blue blood that's a top five or
top ten team for us to get off your backs,
and they're one hundred percent right.
Speaker 4 (33:56):
No, this shouldn't get them off his backs at all.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
James Franklin in big games, right, that that's always kind
of been the knock on him, right, James Franklin in
big games against top ten teams or something? Oh yeah, yeah,
I mean I was. I had the number written down
here and I'm not gonna. I'm gonna I'm not gonna
rifle through at all. But he's just been in terrible.
(34:21):
He's been terrible. But the good news is whenever you're
squaring off against teams that aren't on a green, they're unstoppable.
Three and seventeen against top ten teams, Wow, his career?
Who three and seventeen? So and in fact, I think
you you add in that that might even be old.
(34:42):
I think he's three and eighteen because the loss in
the Big Ten championship game.
Speaker 5 (34:46):
So he said one in eighteen for some reason, but
probably three in eighteen.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
How dare you short him those two wins?
Speaker 4 (34:53):
That he don't want to do that that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
Which which, by the way, one of them came against
Utah in the in the Rose Bowl, and right exactly,
he just he's never really had the success against Michigan
and Ohio State that you need to have. But here
they are, one went away from playing for a national championship, Like,
(35:17):
how do you how do you compartmentalize that? I get
it they had a smoother path, but they still got
to go win the games, right. I get it that
they lost to Ohio State in their biggest game this year,
but they didn't lose again the rest of the season
outside the championship, the Big Ten championship game. So I
don't I don't know what to make of this. I
(35:37):
don't think they're one of the best foard teams in
college football, but they're gonna be one of the final
four teams. And it's hard to dispute what they've accomplished
against the competition that they faced.
Speaker 4 (35:48):
Do they lose both their quarterbacks next year? Is that
what's going on?
Speaker 2 (35:51):
I was coming back, Okay, that's why the other dude
entered the portal.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
Yeah, but then I was here in rumors that hour
may go.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
Also, I don't know he came out and said he
was coming back. So, I mean, I know you have
the best sources on the interweb because you've got all
the NFL, r mrs, Twitter Feed and mL football, these
very accurate sites that already turns to for all of
his football means. So you might be onto something. I'll
tell you what. If I was a quarterback and I
(36:18):
was a fringe first second round pick, I'd be turning
pro this year.
Speaker 5 (36:21):
Well, I just thought that Penn State was the one
that maybe was giving yours sixty million dollars to transfer
up the Penn State or something.
Speaker 4 (36:29):
Sixty I mean six sixty six. I'm not mean. I
didn't mean sixty six. I don't know where I got
sixty six million. I'm sorry, six million.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
I thought Colin Coward told us that it was a
Notre Dame.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
It could have been Notre Dame very well could be.
It probably is Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
I have a wild take for you. I don't think
anyone's offering that kind of money. I think he's going
to turn pro because I think he's smart enough to
realize that. If you look at the NFL Draft right now, Yeah,
who's the slam dunk first round picks shad Or Sanders
and Campbell.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
Were right right.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
You think only two quarterbacks and he get drafted in
the first round whenever you're probably looking at like nine
to ten teams that might want a quarterback. Heck no,
and they'll overspend. Like if I was yours man, I'd
be jumping at the draft if I was you know
who I think should jump. Jalen Milroe needs another year
of development. I think we learned that watching him, right,
But Jalen Milroe is gonna go to the combine and
(37:23):
drop jaws. He's gonna wow it because he's an athletic
freak and I think he could shoot up draft boys
like Anthony Richardson did. Now that hopefully you'll be a
little bit better than Anthony Richardson. So I hear what
you're saying. You know, Alrais said he's coming back to
Penn State next year, but maybe someone gets in his
ear and is like, bro, you could be a first
round pick this year.
Speaker 5 (37:41):
That story I was giving you that hour was thinking
about leaving, that they were taking a good look at
him in this game, and that the Penn State could
be without both quarterbacks. That's the reason I asked you
that I was. I can't find the story, That's why
I I was hoping you saw it.
Speaker 4 (37:56):
So they'd be without any quarterback for next year.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
Yeah, yeah, And the report was from SI. Drew Aller
has announced he's coming back, but the rumor is that
many NFL gms think that he may still enter the.
Speaker 5 (38:09):
Draft, right, Okay, so there you go. So but they're
not I think it's Notre Dame. That's if it's true.
Is the one that's giving yours six million dollars to
go up there? And I do think that's true. I,
by the way, you could make more money today for
one years. I do, and you could make more money for.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
The one you're hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on,
hold on, hold on, hold, hold on home.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Why why can you make more money?
Speaker 5 (38:32):
No?
Speaker 2 (38:32):
No, no, Why do you think that's true? What would
leave tom that the Notre Dame is sniffing around Quinn
yours at all?
Speaker 4 (38:41):
Well you say they don't need a quarterback or they
don't want to give that type of money.
Speaker 2 (38:44):
Well they'd come out and they've said that they're not
going in the portal to get a quarterback, and they're
going with their young guys that they brought in.
Speaker 5 (38:53):
Well, I always thought it was Notre Dame that would
come up with that type of money to get that
type of quarterback. I don't know who else is offering
six million dollars.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
Yeah, yeah, I agree. But the other thing is, how
do we know that number is even real? Right? College
football is such a mind bleep right now because you
hear all these rumors about the amounts of moneys that
are being offered, and you see, uh like, for instance,
I sent you that thing, but vod has got a
list on quinn Ewers next team that he's going to
play for if it's not Texas, and it's ten to
(39:23):
eleven that it's Notre Dame, Right, I think that whatever odds, who.
Speaker 5 (39:26):
Would have leaked that rumor? It would have been yours camp.
That's the way you think, So well, who else would
like that?
Speaker 2 (39:33):
I have no idea someone wanting clicks? I have no
Because the rumor was that it was Michigan State. It
started that it was Michigan State.
Speaker 5 (39:40):
Sniffing around rights.
Speaker 2 (39:43):
Right, and then all of a sudden, you know, Colin goes,
I hear Notre Dame is sniffing around a big time
portal quarterback, but he didn't say yours, and everyone thought
it was Milroe. So I kind of think Quinn you
is just gonna turn PROK. He's gonna be a bet.
I think he's going to be a pretty good NFL quarterback.
I think he's better than arch Manning. I think he's
significantly better.
Speaker 5 (40:00):
Can you make more money making six million in college
than you can be in a what second or third
round pick?
Speaker 2 (40:08):
You can in your second contract, and you definitely can
if you're a first round pick? Right right? How about this?
Is there a chance in the draft by a final
score Penn State wins it thirty one to fourteen? Instant
reaction coming up here with the Jason Smith Show. That's
Arnie Spanier. I'm Chris Plank sitting in. Are you a believer?
(40:29):
Then maybe Dylan Gabriel could be the number three quarterback
heading into the draft.
Speaker 5 (40:33):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
I like him a lot also too.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
The only reason he's in Oregon right now is because
he got a bad draft grade last year. So how
hilarious would it be if he goes to Oregon they
played for and win a national championship and he's a
first draft pick after going back to school because he
got a bad draft grade the first time.
Speaker 5 (40:50):
Around, right right, Well, look at the year that he's
had too, and look at the ranking that Oregon has.
Speaker 4 (40:57):
That's a big part of it too, all right.
Speaker 2 (40:59):

Yes, Happy New Year, my friend Maddy.
Speaker 2 (42:41):
New Year, which is always very weird for me. And
like you're living in the future right now. What's the future? Like, dude,
I'm waiting.
Speaker 4 (42:49):
It's incredible, is it? Sports talk radio so much better

You know it's the way tire buying should be.
Speaker 5 (43:11):
I got more pictures of football players weighing five hundred
pounds saying, hey, Ashton genty when the games aren't against
San Jose and Wyoming.
Speaker 2 (43:21):
Did they include the Oregon game in there? We're nearly
retched for two hundred yards. Yeah, no, that's not in it,
of course not of course, So in your mind now
it went when the Dolphins draft Ashton did gent here?
Are you gonna be mad about it?
Speaker 6 (43:32):
No?
Speaker 5 (43:33):
But you know you brought up a point where you said,
do you think now that Alabama didn't deserve because of
the loss that they had today? Well, why can't you
say the same thing to gent now that he played
a really good defensive team. Yes, he played against Oregon,
had a good game on the road, on the road.
Speaker 2 (43:53):
A great game. He ran for one hundred and ninety
four yards.
Speaker 5 (43:55):
But this is in San Jose Community College now, whom
they didn't play. He's still had over one hundred yards, right,
but significantly is worst game all year long?
Speaker 2 (44:07):
Up to you. I'm not here to fight you over it.
If you want to say that he stinks, that's fine.
Speaker 5 (44:12):
But if you're gonna say that Alabama doesn't deserve to
be in the twelve team playoff because of their loss today,
can't we look at the same thing for.
Speaker 2 (44:20):
No, no, let me sure, if you want to, that's fine.
But if you're going to be held accountable like that
for all of your takes, my man, you're never going
to be on the radio. I mean, it's just gonna
be rough for you. I will say this much. I
didn't necessarily say losing today shows that Alabama didn't belong
in the twelve team playoff. My point is, if you're
(44:40):
going to talk as much gas about how you belonged
in how you deserve to be in the playoffs, you
better go win that bowl game because whether you feel
like it matters or not, it's an indicator of the
kind of team you are. And Alabama, well, they had
some opt out. Was your starting quarterback after going? Was
(45:02):
their best wide receiver going? You bet he was? What
they go up against Arnie, a Michigan team that had
opt outs of all of its major players, and they
still lost. So to me, I look at that and say,
you want to show that you belonged in the playoffs
and at least make a statement you kick the snot
out of the team that you play in your bowl game.
(45:24):
Agree with me or disagree, that's fine.
Speaker 4 (45:26):
It's that icy. That's the first thing you thought of.
Speaker 5 (45:28):
The first thing I thought of was WHOA, how bad
do they not want to be here today?
Speaker 4 (45:33):
How bad do they not want?
Speaker 2 (45:34):
Don't then opt out of the game. I mean, every
single one of those guys that play could have opted
out if they don't want to be there.
Speaker 4 (45:41):
You're right, Jeff. I don't know if it was Jeff Schwartz.
Speaker 2 (45:44):
It sure wasn't Jeff Schwartz that talked about not want
to be there, No, no.
Speaker 5 (45:47):
No, or Rich Hordenberger or one of the guys saying
I think it might have been Rich Hoordenberger saying he
was one of those guys that filled in when everybody
else said out a game.
Speaker 2 (45:56):
Good No, no, no, no, you were right it was Jeff.
But he was talking about the NFL.
Speaker 4 (46:00):
Okay, okay bad.
Speaker 2 (46:01):
Yeah, you know because that was on the the Dan
Campbell comment about I don't want to put anyone in
a position when they're not prepared for and Jeff Short said, yeah,
I was that guy, and I wanted to play, right,
even if I hadn't practiced. I was one of those
dudes when they rested the starters, I got to play,
and I wanted to play exactly. But in this instance,
So if you want to tell me, hey, Planke, you
(46:21):
think that Alabama needed to win to prove they belonged
in the playoffs, that's fine.
Speaker 5 (46:26):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (46:26):
And you want to counter and say, well, Ashton Genty
obviously isn't very good. If he didn't run for X
amount of yards against.
Speaker 4 (46:32):
Them, maybe he should just not very good.
Speaker 5 (46:33):
How about we should just pump the brakes on him
about how great he is.
Speaker 2 (46:37):
Well, okay, are you pumping the brakes on Travis Hunter
based on the dumping against Colorado or you pump the
brakes on shud or Sanders.
Speaker 5 (46:44):
I am pumping the breaks and shoulder Sanders a Hunter
because they've not what were they oenate or O nine
against teams above five hundred or something to that effect.
Speaker 4 (46:53):
I don't even know what they were. They were. They
were not very good, to be honest with you, Chris,
they were there.
Speaker 5 (46:57):
And that does make me put them to step outs,
that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
So you're gonna you're al Davis I've finally decided that's
who you are.
Speaker 5 (47:06):
It's what it's well, and it's not a knock which
has money that I owned a team like that.
Speaker 2 (47:11):
But right and all his money was was the Vegas
Raiders at that time, the Oakland Raiders. So I gotta
tell you, I just I'm not gonna get I'm not
gonna get in the two knocking or too praising in
a bowl game. I'm just saying, if you come in
it complaining about you deserve this, you gotta win your
(47:31):
bowl game. And Alabama didn't today, and they look like
craft their first twenty two plays. Did I already give
you that stat first twenty two plays like negative four yards,
very turnovers and a turnover on down.
Speaker 5 (47:44):
I've ever seen so many turnovers had started a game
like that.
Speaker 2 (47:47):
Hey, what did you since we're on the bowl games
here quickly, what you make of the little back and
forth between Brett Beelima and Shane Beemer? Did you catch that?
Speaker 5 (47:57):
I saw a little bit of it, and I saw
people were tweeting at you about that also, Chris.
Speaker 2 (48:02):
Yeah, I was on the air while it was happening.
We were watching it take place live. I was hanging
out with EJ. Manuel today, And first of all, you
know this better than anyone because we've done a show
together for a minute. It's hard to really tell what's
going on. You don't have the audio up right, you're
counting on Twitter, and Twitter had no answers because everyone
(48:25):
was making the same joke, right, Everyone had the same
joke showing you know, someone getting held back or oh,
Shane Biemer going to.
Speaker 4 (48:31):
Do finger pointing. I saw the finger pointing.
Speaker 2 (48:33):
Yeah, so if you missed it, Brett Bilama had an
injured player and it happened on a play where South
Carolina's punt returner, our kick returner, punt returner had made
the signal like hey, let the ball go, let the
ball go, and as soon as he did, another guy
grabbed it and ran with it. So the guy got
(48:54):
hurt on the play for Illinois. I think he was okay. Well.
As Brett Beilama was walking over to check hunt his player,
he's walking over doing that sign, the waving it off
sign while he's walking towards and this guy's hurt on
the South Carolina sidelines and I don't know what he said,
but he kept doing it, the little kind of waving
his arms out, and I guess Shane Beemer thought, I
(49:14):
love you, Shane, but kind of tried to go like
a little Barney Badass or something like Shane Biemer was
gonna go take out Brett Bilama. But I had to
laugh because Beamer's over there all fired up, and he's pointing,
and they cut to the Illinois sideline and what's Beilama doing?
He just laughing. He didn't care. He's like, this is
like a cheese at Bowl. What do we getting fired
(49:34):
up for? In the Citrus Bowl? But Illinois won that game.
So again, it's just it's hard whenever you're trying to
defend a team that earned that you feel like earned
or deserved a spot in the playoffs. South Carolina, Alabama,
it's hard for me to defend them when they don't
go out and win their bowl game. That's just kind
of my point about Alabama.
Speaker 5 (49:52):
Right, And I see your point, right, But I do
take when you said about a Hunter and Sanders. I
do take a little bit away from them also, just
like I take a little bit away from gent two.
Speaker 4 (50:04):
Hey, can I just pass one more note? I just
a little bit of a left turn here.
Speaker 5 (50:08):
Did you see that story about Antonio Gates junior, the
football player.
Speaker 2 (50:13):
Did you know what happened?
Speaker 4 (50:14):
He went to Michigan State. He's transferring to You want
to take.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
A guess California?
Speaker 4 (50:21):
Delaware State? Right, Delaware deglaware right? Is that the new
hires that.
Speaker 2 (50:26):
Were Oh, Michael Vick's at Delaware State.
Speaker 4 (50:29):
Yeah, Delaware State. That's where he's gonna go.
Speaker 2 (50:31):
With Mike Vick. So he's gonna go from Michigan State
to Delaware State.
Speaker 4 (50:36):
Yes, okay, that kudos to Michael Vick.
Speaker 2 (50:40):
Hey remember Travis Hunter. Travis Hunter was originally committed to
Florida State, right, and then he went with Dion Was
it Jackson State where he was at for a while?
Speaker 4 (50:49):
That's true, so it's not.
Speaker 2 (50:51):
An unprecedented move. But all right, well, college football playoffs
three games tomorrow. We hit it only had about thirty
seconds before the top of the hour. But as far
as spreads are concerned, Oregon's an underdog tomorrow. I haven't
seen if that mine has moved at all. Last I
had it was at two and a half for Ohio State.
But George is a one point favorite over Notre Dame.
(51:11):
Texas is a thirteen point favorite over Arizona State. As
far as just like true upsets are concern I guess
the only true upset would be Arizona State beating Texas, right.
Speaker 4 (51:20):
Right right?
Speaker 2 (51:20):
I agree.
Speaker 5 (51:21):
I still think, you know, part of you wants to
say Arizona State perhaps can keep it close.
Speaker 4 (51:24):
But the way that Texas offense.
Speaker 5 (51:27):
Is, and the way the running game is and defensively,
I think they could do a better job against Arizona
State than they did against Clemson.
Speaker 4 (51:36):
This could be another blowout.
Speaker 2 (51:37):
Also, I wonder what Kenny Dillingham is gonna have dialed up.
I saw you sent the note and disager had it
at the top of the hour about the new contract
for Kenny.
Speaker 4 (51:46):
Llam five year deal.
Speaker 2 (51:48):
That's pretty impressive.
Speaker 5 (51:49):
Well, five year deal of what probably says, oh, but
I can get out if somebody's gonna offer me more
money or something to that effect.
Speaker 2 (51:55):
It offers a pathway through performance incentives for the deal
to extend to ten years. A couple of other notes
here on this from Pete Tamil. The new deal for
Kenny Dillingham comes amid what is described as a wide
ranging commitment to football at Arizona State, as ASU is
(52:16):
expected to add twenty scholarships for football, for roster expansion,
additional staff resources, and a full revenue share. Participant quote,
we are in the national conversation in Arizona State, source said,
we want to be committed to give our program the
resources to stay in the national conversation and compete nationally
(52:38):
for the best coaching talent and recruit the talent to
compete at the highest level.
Speaker 5 (52:42):
Do you mean twenty more scholarship? What were they given
like sixty five?
Speaker 2 (52:46):
Well, you now have that. There's some schools it's been
a reduction, but eighty five. You have an eighty five
and I think it's one oh five scholarship limit now
in college football. There's been a change in the number
of scholarships you can give. And they're saying, hey, instead
of doing eighty five, we'll fully fund one hundred and five.
Speaker 4 (53:06):
Scyars and they probably should.
Speaker 5 (53:08):
By the way, the fact that he got a new deal,
we could also put the rest at Alabama will ever
think about firing their coach the Boors?
Speaker 2 (53:16):
Right? Yes? By by the did you.
Speaker 4 (53:19):
Did you see the buyout in his contract on the
Bors contract?
Speaker 2 (53:22):
Yeah? Yeah, it's ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (53:24):
Seventy million.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
Where do some of these people come from where they
say seven, because you lost a game, you should be
fired seventy million.
Speaker 5 (53:33):
Well, they did bring up the stat where he lost
the three teams as a double digit.
Speaker 4 (53:37):
Favorite, and Nick Sab never did that.
Speaker 5 (53:39):
He wants a double digit favorite three times in his
whole career at Alabama.
Speaker 4 (53:43):
This happened in one year.
Speaker 5 (53:44):
But seventy million dollars, you never get to get fired,
he can go, oh and whatever, They'll never get fired.
Speaker 2 (53:51):
Can I miss point out one thing?
Speaker 4 (53:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (53:54):
Do you remember? And obviously Alabama is in a much
different situation in twenty twenty four than they were in
twenty seven, two thousand and seven when Saban took over.
But do you do you remember Alabama losing to Louisiana
Monroe And yes, seven, Yes, though just wanted to make
(54:14):
sure they had a four game losing streak where they
lost LSU in Mississippi State, Louisiana Monroe, in Auburn. So
everybody was in Shula.
Speaker 4 (54:21):
Was it Shula? What coach went through? A real tough
time there?
Speaker 2 (54:28):
Oh? Prior to Nick Saban? Yeah, you had Shula, you
had the bows. It was bad man.
Speaker 4 (54:35):
She was the one that lost to Louisiana Monroad was
it not?
Speaker 2 (54:37):
No, Nick Saban was.
Speaker 4 (54:39):
Oh get audio. So that was his first year.
Speaker 2 (54:41):
That was his first year. Yeah, Mike Shula actually got
fired and uh that's when Joe Kines took over as
head coach and gave that great May he rest in peace,
gave that great interview whenever they were playing in the
Liberty but the Independence Ball against Oklahoma State, they're going
halftime like that. Yeah, the vote, but yeah, no, that
(55:01):
was Nick Saban that lost to Louisana.
Speaker 4 (55:03):
Goodness the program falling.
Speaker 2 (55:08):
Calm down, Bama fans. All right, college football, Penn State's
moving on. We'll have more on the playoff games tomorrow
coming up here.
Speaker 4 (55:15):
And just one final thing.
Speaker 5 (55:17):
You don't think you think the ratings are going to
be pretty low like all the other times it was
for New Year's Eve, Right.
Speaker 2 (55:23):
Yeah, I don't think there's I think I think tomorrow's
Oregon Ohio State game is going to be the most
watched college I think, in fact, it might be the
most watched rose ball. I don't want to get too
carried away here.
Speaker 4 (55:36):
Texas Arizona State would be good too.
Speaker 2 (55:38):
I don't think so. I don't think anyone cares about
Arizona State, but especially you, I don't know why you're
trying to build up your art trival here. This has
just gotta chap your backside right. Look at Arizona State
spending all this money playing in the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (55:52):
It does bother me because we were that I see
two years ago, and now we're not.
Speaker 2 (55:56):
When did you guys make the playoffs?
Speaker 4 (56:00):
We haven't.
Speaker 2 (56:01):
Oh sorry about that? And what happened to your coach
after the great season? They had? He signed a long
term extension. They stick around at Arizona.
Speaker 4 (56:08):
He's dead to me? Who I don't even know.
Speaker 2 (56:12):
That guy, Jedfish moved on to Washington.
Speaker 5 (56:16):
I don't think you should be listed as one of
the coaches on our you know, at University of Arizona.
Speaker 2 (56:21):
You don't think you should be included, even though he
gave you one of your best seasons. But miscellaneous, miscellaneous
in a non.
Speaker 4 (56:27):
Avira misc that's all you put down.
Speaker 2 (56:30):
That's on he Spaniel and Chris Plank. We're sitting in
for Jason and Mike. You can traditionally and consistently find
us Sunday nights from ten p to one a Central time,
eleven to two way Eastern Time right here on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 5 (56:40):
But Arizona State won't let you remember that we went
ten years without losing to them in a row in football. Yes,
what years was that? Nine to ozho to one?
Speaker 4 (56:50):
Were not? We tied one game by a miracle for
some reason.
Speaker 2 (56:54):
Well, then you've got that. But as I've been taught
by a very famous person, the show tonight, so is tonight? Yes,
so we got to talk about now. Happy New Year everybody.
If you're out and about, don't drink and drive. So
many options, ride shairs, uber lyft, hack, call a friend,
get a taxi. Don't make the worst mistake you can
(57:15):
make for your life to kick off what's supposed to
be a rebirth and a start for twenty twenty five.
Do the thing that Alex ty Shirt and Shay and
Ernie and I would do, uber lyft. Whatever you take,
don't drink and drive. And I was talking to my
daughter during the break. Do you have any New Year's traditions?
Like some people feel like you need to eat black
eyed peas as your first food for the new year
(57:38):
on your idea.
Speaker 5 (57:39):
I usually pop the Martinelli's, but my wife goes to
bed at like right after we got home from dinner,
today we went out there for dinner.
Speaker 4 (57:47):
So she goes right to sleep, and.
Speaker 2 (57:49):
Uh, what's that like five o'clock.
Speaker 4 (57:51):
Yeah, she she.
Speaker 5 (57:52):
Goes to bed at like three in the afternoon. So no, seriously,
she it's always she just goes right. There's so fall
asleep in a movie, the TV show, so good. She'll
go to bed before she goes to bed, just the
little nap.
Speaker 2 (58:06):
I don't blame bed. I think we're kindred spirits, Beth
and our kindred spirits. Well, apparently it's here's something that
my daughter asked me about. The twelve grapes. Yeh, ty shirt, Shay,
aren'ty I of you guys? Ever heard of the twelve grapes?
Speaker 4 (58:18):
No, I don't know what the hell you're talking about.
Speaker 2 (58:20):
Have you heard about this, Alex? Twelve grapes is a
tradition that you're supposed to eat on New Year's Eve,
twelve grapes on New Year's Eve. The tradition originated in Spain,
but its spread widely. Each grape represents the twelve strikes
of the clock at midnight, as well as the twelve
(58:40):
months ahead.
Speaker 5 (58:42):
Wow, really it's interesting you set up is after dinner,
I went to the market to buy myself some cupcakes.
Speaker 4 (58:48):
Huh, And there was two girls ahead of me that.
Speaker 5 (58:51):
Were buying grapes. I was like, there you go, like
you look good, but I don't want to fruit.
Speaker 4 (58:55):
I didn't want anything.
Speaker 2 (58:56):
January first is National Bloody Man Day.
Speaker 4 (59:01):
I hate those things.
Speaker 2 (59:03):
I can have one, I can't have zero, zero depend
on how it's made.
Speaker 5 (59:09):
Are you like the time that Buddy Mary with like
a cheeseburger on it and shrimp and now sorry and
all the full course menu on it?
Speaker 4 (59:18):
That makes me sick?
Speaker 2 (59:19):
I love bloody Mary's. Are you remind me of like
a smearinoff guy? He doesn't even know what that is? Yeah, okay,
very good. Here's another one.
Speaker 4 (59:31):
Apparently a great alcohol guy.
Speaker 2 (59:33):
Stop. Yeah, he just straight up ever clear man. In Columbia,
there is the New Year's tradition of walking around with
an empty suitcase. Apparently locals walk around their neighborhood carrying
an empty suitcase. The ritual, embraced, especially by those desiring
to travel board, signifies a year filled with globe trotting ahead.
Speaker 4 (59:58):
I've thought that here, I'm going to start that tradition here.
Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
Why not? The Filipino tradition of wearing polka dots is
apparently used to promote good luck and prosperity in the
new year, and another Filipino tradition that is to eat
round fruits. Round fruit looks like a coin, and the
(01:00:24):
sweetness of a fruit symbolizes sweet things in store in
your life.
Speaker 4 (01:00:29):
I had a grape fruit for dessert yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:00:31):
In Greece, people hang onions on their door on New
Year's Eve or day to promote health and longevity in
the new year.
Speaker 4 (01:00:40):
Now I want money.
Speaker 2 (01:00:43):
Let's see what was another? They say, a light of candle.
In Ecuador, there's a beloved tradition called los agnos viejos,
in which people burn giant dolls in order to get
rid of bad energy, symbolic an usher in new beginning.
Speaker 4 (01:01:02):
What is this? The squid game?
Speaker 2 (01:01:04):
I think? And one more here I got tons of
And you've never seen squid game.
Speaker 5 (01:01:09):
I just watched the whole second season. I've been watched it.
It was horrible.
Speaker 4 (01:01:13):
You didn't like it, No, did not like it at all?
Speaker 2 (01:01:15):
Did you like the first season?
Speaker 4 (01:01:17):
Loved the first season?
Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
One more Brazilian tradition, you must wear white on New
Year's Eve.
Speaker 4 (01:01:24):
Oh, I thought you have to get a Brazilian butt lift.
Speaker 2 (01:01:26):
No no no. Individuals may wear white on New Year's
Eve to represent peace and purification. At midnight, people also
jump over seven waves at the beach to offer their
respects to le Manga, the goddess of the sea and rivers.
I got more of these, all sprinkling.
Speaker 4 (01:01:47):
We're doing it all wrong here in the US.
Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
Yeah, apparently so our singing of all laid sign giving
a little kiss and then going to bed. That's not
out supposed to be, folks, not how it's supposed to be.
All right, when we come back. The controversy brewing over
decisions leading into the final week of the NFL season
to play or not to play. That's coming up next.
(01:02:10):
