Greetings and welcome in the Airhorns signal another big four
hour extravaganza ahead of you, UH and all of us
this evening, big slate of NBA games, bunch of guys

(00:43):
taken the night off, and load management, rest, injury management, confusion,
all of those things, UH come to bear. We're broadcasting
live for the tire Act dot Com studios tire act
dot com. We'll help you get there on n matt selection,
fast free shipping, free road has protection, and over ten
thousand recommended installers. Tire act dot com the way tire

(01:05):
buying should be. Put many a weary mile on my tires.
I'll be calling the Tire Act guys pretty fast here
because you know, heading to and from the fun and
exciting ti ract dot com studios in in southern California
and getting my daughter to and from all sorts of
soccer workouts, because well that's what you do. You do

(01:26):
your job. And now sitting down and watching plenty of
NBA action and reviewing the wagers from earlier at the
Breeders Cut. Plenty of that to come as the night
goes on. No Jason Smith to night out, enjoying himself
a Friday night of chaos and extra loads of cheese.
So in his stead, we can make the call and

(01:48):
he comes to us live from Vermont, where he is
currently finding a way to create his own line of
syrup and breakfast products. He is our man. He has
Arnie Spanier, the Stinking Genius at Stinking Genius one on Twitter. Arnie.
It is always an honor, a pleasure and a privilege
to welcome you. I didn't know if you were gonna
go at the show over the four hours up. That

(02:09):
was a quick show. Let's I'll see you next week.
Thank you. Are we gonna pick it up? I'm like,
are we gonna get them here? You? You're gonna go
ahead and wait another two and a half hours to
introduce me. You're You're on, You're in, You're in, fine
fiddle already trying to build out a nice little welcome.
I've got to do a read. You gotta pay, get
get paid, right. The company has to make its money.

(02:31):
We've got sponsors, We've got tie ins. That's the way
it works. Pal, you you lead in. Plank does fifteen
minute monologues on the Raiders. You sit there silently. Wow.
See if I don't aggravate you right off the bat
that I'm not doing my job. I want you to
know that it's not aggravated. It's all theater of the mind,
of course, buddy. Uh. And we know what to expect.

(02:52):
We got Don on the wheels of steel, as Plank
would say, as well, I gotta make you as comfortable
in your element as I can. Uh. And then Ricky O,
our executive producer, Steve di Seger on the updates with
us tonight as we follow the fun and exciting world
of the NBA. And I know you're thrilled our teams
collide on Sunday. Your Dolphins, my bears, and I mean

(03:17):
they'll be a friendly wager and no doubt friendly. That's
not gonna be anything friendly about it. I feel good
about my Dolphins. A couple of weeks ago, I was
all bummed out. I was going through like sports. Uh
you know, uh, just being a bummed out in my
sports world is crumbling, and all of a sudden, my
Dolphins come back, and um, you know my nicks are okay.

(03:39):
But you know things are starting to pick up with
me in my in my sports when I love, um,
the Dolphins. A matter of fact, I was an ask,
if you can work for me on the Super Bowl
so I can see the Dolphins play in the Super Bowl.
If we can do that, well, it is a Fox
super Bowl in Arizona, in your Arizona, see it all
times together. It's all coming up, Arnie Spaniard. In that way,
I may go do that. I may take the day off,

(04:00):
go out there and go out the Arizona watch my
Dolphins play. I feel good. I remember I picked the
Dolphins from the very beginning. I don't want to be
jumping as long as you've been doing radio though. Yeah,
but that's so what though You're like Morris, you've been
picking him so long. I was gonna get around one, right,
sooner or later. You know that. Well, but that's the thing, right,

(04:21):
we keep throwing darts and hope that we find the
targets somewhere along the way. Pleasantries in. You want to
get in and give us an idea of of what
you're looking forward to hearing. You know, a couple of
topics have dominated the last seventy two hours in sports
talk radio. Well, I'm just jumping in. You know what's
crazy is before the baseball gave me yesterday, I asked
everybody if you could just watch one game. Are you

(04:43):
watching Game five? Are you're watching the football game? Overwhelmingly
people were saying they were watching the football game. I
was shocked about that. I'm like, okay, here we are
the game five. If you maybe was one through four,
I can understand something. But you know, we're getting to
the good stuff. I can't believe people still would rather
watch football then Game five of the World Series. Now
it's look for the World Series. You've got two teams

(05:06):
like you might hate the Astros. So there's hate watching
is a very real thing. Uh. It's something Jason and
I discussed with some regularity. Right, there's that fine line
between hate watching and apathy. And where people start to
maybe back off a bit right Brady, towards the end
of the New England run, I think we're starting to
get to the oh, it's these guys again, dot dot

(05:28):
dot Lebron winning. Now we talk about the Lakers a
lot in the dysfunction in chaos in Laker Land, and
we'll do so a bit tonight as as they take
to the court, winners of two straight. The Russell Westbrook
story that remains playing great defense and playing some pretty
good basketball. But you know, never let the truth get

(05:48):
in the way of a good story, Arnie. As we
know in sports talk radio, Dan Woiki l a times
our friend will join us halftime of that game with
some insights of what's going on to night. Don't just
go overall you know what's crazy to just have to
break up the Lakers real quick. I was thinking about this.
I mean, I was looking at that and I know
it's early, but I was looking at the bottom feeder

(06:08):
NBA teams out there, and I saw how the Clippers, um,
we we're I mean, you know, even though they're four
and four, um, the Lakers ward in the playoffs. Golden
State wasn't in the playoffs. And I started thinking about
you know, people like Rogers and Brady and you know,
Matthew Stafford. I mean, we're gonna be going out with
a whole bunch of stars. I mean, there's gonna be

(06:31):
a lot of retirements coming up, um with the way
things look at out there, because there's a lot of
people certainly aging, and they're they're all over the place.
And can you believe that Golden State, Well, well did
you ever figure the day that Golden State and the
Lakers would be on the bottom feeders in the NBA? Um,
it's just insane. I mean, it really just turns the

(06:53):
whole tables, you know. Well, I mean that that's a
larger conversation. We'll get into the Warriors in full coming
up about ten minutes from now here, Fox Sports Trade.
I want to talk about your guys, Steve Kerr, some
comments he made yesterday and obviously the lineup that they
fielded uh tonight and are currently playing and the battling
against Zion and the Pelicans, And we talked about changing

(07:14):
in the guard all the time, and look, you're gonna
go through cycles the thing with the Warriors, and I
think it's a nice long conversation is oh, in five
to start the season on the road, her make some
comments post game, you realize when that last happened, because
I'm a nerd and I like these little data points
that ending champions started on the road. And five the

(07:36):
next season the Philadelphia Warriors ninety seven, which is great
because it ties into the last and only no hitter
we ever had in a World Series game of Don
Larson back in nineteen fifty six. See how it's all
world All worlds collide here in our sporting universe, arenaty
but you know to to stay with your football or

(07:57):
baseball proposition, like any of time to talk about Kyrie Irving,
plenty of time to get into some of those other
big stories that are traversing the web. We got Todd
Ferman with us later on, as I mentioned Dan Woiki
a bit, Jerry Jones commenting on what's going on with
the Commanders Brian Cashman story, which I think is a

(08:18):
nice interesting thought piece. Along the way, Troy Vincent saying,
atta boy, stay the course. Uh, we'll tell you what
that's all about. And then obviously plenty of Week nine
of the National Football League and the Big One versus
Three matchup we have tomorrow. But for baseball, we talk
hate watching, so maybe you got sucked into that. Fine
the Phillies. Do you have a big national thirst for

(08:43):
the Phillies And just saying it's the World Series even
though it's on Fox. I don't know that that resonates
with a lot of folks in terms of sitting down
for a three hour period because it's not a deciding game, right,
you had no hit or the prior game, and you
have an isolated game with an undefeated Philadelphia Eagles squad
where no doubt there are a lot of bets, a

(09:04):
lot of live betting, and a lot of fantasy implications
going on. So even though it's the Texans in those
snazzy red uniforms, my guess is people decided to go
that route instead. Yeah, you know, I look, I always
thought I agree with you. They hate watching is a
real thing. You know. When we were on a plank
on Sunday night when this first started, we found out
the matchups are like, what do you guys want to watch?

(09:25):
Are you gonna watch the you know? Or who you're
rooting for? You gotta root for the Astros? Are you
gonna root for the Phillies. Um, because you know what,
the Astrols cheated. People want to hate them. People hate Philadelphia,
So which is the one you're gonna put your hatred
aside and you're gonna root for. I think people kind
of just shrug this World Series off and said, we
just hate them both. So you know, we can't get

(09:46):
a tie. I don't know what we're gonna do. I
want Philadelphia to win, but um, it looks like it's
a little bit of an uphill battle right now. It's
been a good series. There's been some comebacks, We've had
some good pitching. I mean, people have missed out. But
I don't know if this World Series is getting the
attention that it really should right now. Yeah, in the moment,
the difficulty, you know, you try to do the cell

(10:07):
cell cell, and obviously Houston's a hard thing. Because I
think I can hold both thoughts can currently, I can
celebrate and as a baseball fan and appreciating, you know,
because I'm watching the White Sox usher in a new manager.
Right Tony Larusa's out, uh, and so next man in
how he's going to want to operate a clubhouse and
build a squad and parce out at bats, playing favorites

(10:31):
and not or you know what, whatever the case may be. Right,
different analytics playing a different role. We see all that,
but we we look for our own teams. Uh. And
the Phillies are are a bit of a fun story
with the eighties seven wins and rolling in. But for
the Astros, you appreciate what the organization has done now anybody,
and our buddy John Paul Morossi joined us this morning

(10:53):
and overall, uh, he and I will just disagree on
this and we we agree to disagree. You know, just
saying hey, it was five years ago doesn't do it right.
So many people still have, uh, their vitriol and anger
over four guys who are are the faces of the PD.
It's that it's not the guys really, it's the name
on the front. It's it's the Houston Astros. No, no,

(11:15):
but but my point is that you still have some
remnants of those guys Loster right, and and none of
them really paid a price other than getting booed. We
Rob Manford more or less just kind of shrugged. You
lost a manager, you lost front office, Okay, shrug, move on.
I can appreciate the institutional greatness of finding prospects developing

(11:39):
prospects while still feeling uneasy about them continuing to win.
And then you know, you have the fram deer Valdez
with whatever was on his arm, wiping it before seeing it,
the seeing the umpire, and then the whole thing of
the Albert pool Holes bat are and he just bothers me. Right,
not not only for this series that it makes an appearance,

(11:59):
but at Albert Pools was allowed to use it right
that that doesn't seem right either. So there's still a
bit of angst there in terms of you know, you
can commemorate and celebrate what they're doing in some of
the heroics while still feeling uneasy about it because it
is such recent history and there there are still so
many links to that alive in that organization. It doesn't

(12:21):
make a difference how many guys are still on the
astros um that cheetd We can do ten years from now,
we're gonna say those those those cheat and astros and
there'll be nobody who left on the team. It makes
no difference. We still talk about how they you know,
bood through snowballs at Santa Claus. Nobody left from that team.
They celebrated Santa Claus the other night though he was

(12:41):
on the jumboat when they were winning. But the year
nobody's around. But we we bring that up like it
like it was yesterday. Yeah, but we're not talking about
any of the players that were really on the on
the on the field. We just say, oh, those damn
Philadelphia fans, right right, but the battery shucking and all
that stuff. Yeah. I mean, look, I I don't want

(13:01):
the Astrals to win on pulling from Philadelphia, just you know,
because it's the less of two evils for me. I
I really didn't have a dog in the fight in
this one, but I'd like to see Philadelphia do it.
We'll see how this turns out. But I think it's
been a pretty good series. If you haven't been watching,
you kind of missed out, you know. No, I agree
with a lot of fun pieces, even in in yesterday's game, right,
we had to combine no hitter and and people wanted

(13:23):
to wag their fingers about combined no hitters? Please why
because aren't he it's a new world. I don't care
what it is that Johnny Jordy nuts. It's got to
be done by one picture. It guld me the done
by a combination of the pictures. You know, yes, that exactly.
It's already rules, unwritten rules, but I'll put them in

(13:46):
a book someday. You can't have more than you're a
guy of a certain age that still hits the court
wearing a tank top. So don't tell me about unwritten rules.
Don't forget the head band too, Maneah know the headband
you gotta yeah, you gott you gotta have that because
the long flowing locks need to be contained. But yes, uh,

(14:06):
you know. But we had the second inning, and that's
the one I want to come back to you, Like
we had some great flashing of leather, couple of huge
uh components, and I was looking up some data uh
the the Astros for the season, we're tied for fourth
in terms of runs saved based on defense, fourteen of
which were attributed to right field. So that big catch uh,

(14:27):
and the reaction from the Eagles locker room was fun.
That was such a fun video piece. But in the
second inning, Verlander gets two outs and then the bases
are loaded and he gets the huge strikeout of Hoskins,
Like there was the moment right Verlander for his World
Series History legacy all those things we love to talk
about in sports talk radio. But also there was your

(14:50):
opportunity for the Phillies to do some damage, to get
right back into the bullpen right there, because the pitch
was getting up and the confidence looks shaken. But he
makes a couple of big pitches, Hoskin gets starts chasing
a bit, and he gets out of the jam and
cruises through the rest of his five innings. Did you
bring up the numbers thing if you're a numbers guy,
I'm sure you guys brought it up for um? What

(15:11):
was the numbers there? That the Texans scored on their
first drive, the Eagles scored on their first drive, the
Philly scored to run in the top of the first
and then the Astal score to run in their first
I wonder what the prop bet on that would have been,
But you know that was That was the other thing
for the football game, right, just to talk about the
beaty of things. And obviously Davis Mills threw up on

(15:32):
himself a bit with a couple of really bad interceptions
in the second half, but that first quarter was poetry. Right.
You want to watch offenses clicking, You want to celebrate
how great Damian Pierce looks like he could be well, well,
you know what, after the game, we had the opportunity,
uh as you know, you you love when you can

(15:52):
get a stringer, find you one of the stars of
the game, and we were able to get Javon Hargrave on.
Now he had three sax in this game. He had
two sacks against Pittsburgh on Sunday. So you're talking one
of the best weeks ever, uh in terms of football play.
And I asked him about trying to tackle him and
he just started gigg when he goes bowling ball, man,
Like we knew it was gonna be tough, but man,

(16:15):
that is something else, especially what he's getting up to
his you know, rush of the night. He finished with
twenty seven rushes. That's twenty seven opportunities to give punishment.
But one of the stats they threw out there is
the ineffectiveness of the Houston line is such that he's
generally having contact point seven yards from the line of scrimmage. Wow, wow,

(16:37):
how do you like that? For some craziness? Is you see,
you knew he runs hard. I mean, I just love
everything about him. I even tried to pick him up
in my Fantasy Week team. Remember he should have been drafted,
so yeah, and if he wasn't, you're in a really bad, terrible, terrible,
really really really bad. He's already spanned your in for

(16:57):
Jason Smith on Mike rm in here five Exports Radio.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harman weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

(18:04):
Arnie Spanier in his stead. Uh. Guy, always look forward
to working with, chopping it up and yelling at and
being yelled at by Arnie. So welcome in it's hour two.
We've got college football, we got the NBA. Maybe you
got a little NHL action going on. Maybe you're keeping
an eye on high school playoffs. My daughter's school. Uh
here in Redondo Beach, there c I F playoffs. So

(18:27):
excited for that. Yeah, no good stuff. They changed their
coach in the off season. Well, you know what, That's
what we try to do here. We try to wrap
our big arms around this and give everybody a big
hug and celebrate that we have all these sports going
on right I. I try to try to find those
wins a big thing and a big phrase, Arnie. Because

(18:48):
we can get caught up in the Minus show, we
can get caught up in the things that are bringing
us down. But sports brings us together, live music, live here,
those things we celebrate, we come together. We could be
on different sides of things in terms of fan them.
You can get pelted with stuff because you wear the
wrong jersey and didn't read the fine print. On your
taking about rules of engagement with other fan bases. But

(19:09):
in the end, you're there to celebrate at the pageantry
of those games and sports, and that's what we hope
to do here on Fox Sports. Trade. Imagine you could
win the one point five powerball, one point five billion
dollar power ball, and still not have enough money to
buy the Washington Tea not even closed. No, no, no,
I still need a lot of parts because after taxes,
after after everything goes down, and you know, this is

(19:30):
always the funny thing, you only get four hundred million.
I think I'll be okay, it's more than that. It's
only fo's something like that. By time you parse out
all of the well, depending what state you're into, totally
it's totally worth playing. Well, I do know a lot
of folks that will only play once it gets to
say a hundred million or seven, like it picks some

(19:54):
random number and it's just like, okay, because that million
dollars wouldn't change what you're doing right now. In most
cases guys like you, I mean big swingers, Oh yeah,
I mean you need a little bit more of course,
of course. Yeah, Well, I wait till it's to two
billion before I'll started playing the lottery. I can play
the local Vermont lottery, but there's nobody in this state,

(20:14):
so I think it gives me a better chance of winning. See,
there you go, playing the odds. What you do, and
that's what you do with your picks. Each and every week.
I see the scrawled out legal pad notes. We'll get
into some nflship. No, it's it's beautiful. I mean back
when penmanship was a thing. Though. You know, I once
had my arm tied behind my back as a kindergarten

(20:36):
because I left my left hand. Yeah, I knew that's
what they used to do they. Yeah, I had a
I hadn't. Yeah, I took many a ruler, both in
public kindergarten and then certainly from the nuns back in
the day. Uh. Fortunately I bypassed the era of my
like my dad, kids can't even right cursive. Is that
crazy or what they can't do? You know? My daughters

(20:59):
can do it fairly well, but it's it's limited right
even like well, but like they could write a short
note to Grandma. Grandma loves handwritten notes. Like that's a
big deal. So they can do the paragraph for two
to deal with Grandma and make sure that that's satisfied.
That's a good point for all of you out there, right, Grandma, Grandpa, auntie,

(21:21):
uncle's whoever's helping a little bit, you know, yeah, uncle Arni,
you know all those things. You want to make sure
you get the handwritten note. It's it's a lost art,
but one that I certainly appreciate. I know my mom does.
So my kids can do that, and they can take
notes for school. I can't read them, but you know,
they work their whole thing out and that's fine. But

(21:42):
if they try to write something a bit longer, you know,
they have a bunch of things they forget it, forget it.
By the end of that time, you've not done a
paper unless you've had to use a ten gallon drum
of liquid paper, uh and trying to blood out all
your miss I've tried to explain that, you know, part
of me wants to go old school and become a
mini Tom Hanks. Get a couple of old school typewriters,

(22:03):
because you know he collects vintage typewriter. Yeah, it's one
of his big things because he loves to write letters,
and he loves the different impressions and the font that
comes with each brand. Of of typewriter and stuff. So yeah,
it's a big deal. I think he wrote a book
to that effect as well. And if you ever get
correspondence from him, it's on one of his It's like
Jay Leno driving around southern California and some of his

(22:25):
cars that are a hundred years old. But like you know,
he he does some some gigs and I don't know
that he does them as regularly, but he used to
be there every Sunday night. So I'm in Redondo Beach
here in southern California. Just up the road is hermos
and you see it whenever there's a RAMS game, right,
there's photos or whatever. They may not identify it by name,

(22:48):
but you'll you'll see some clips. And there's a famous
comedy and magic club. So they've got a bunch of
comedians and they'll always have a magician to start the
show and then off he goes. Well, Jay Leno, when
he would I'm in for the Sunday shows, particularly when
he was still doing the Tonight Show, he'd come in
with bits they wanted to try out, Like a lot
of his act was stuff that he knew would work

(23:09):
that people resonated with people. For me, it was old
because it was hey, he's still doing some Bill Clinton
jokes fifteen years later, but hey, the crowd there was
eaten it up. I was not exactly the target age
at the time, but it's Jay Leno. He's right down
the street, and I celebrate the man's career and and

(23:29):
you have dinner, right and while he goes on stage
and he comes out with those note cards. But it
was always the big thing to be outside when he
arrived because he had no idea what car he was
driving up and he had to well, he's got he's
got an airport hangar of him. Yeah, no, it's well chronicle.
He does a show for one of the cable networks

(23:51):
about cars, classic cars, but a lot of those are
are his, like these vintage cars that you'll see him,
you know, sitting in like he owns these things. Like
because he's a guy that he's like Rob Gronkowski and
Marshawn Lynch and some of these other guys never actually
touched the money from the main gig with all the
money from the endorsements and and and private appearances and

(24:14):
whatever else. And what he would do is he'd go
into the marketplace to make sure that those cars didn't
end up on some random lot and rust out right,
they didn't end up on some farmland in the middle
of the Midwest and suddenly become extinct. So he would
get them, repair them as best he could restore them.
And so they are these pristine cars from you know,

(24:35):
a hundred years ago, eighty years ago, all these things
that are rolling around and you'll see him on the streets,
make sure they're street legal, and the way he goes.
I always wanted a canary yellow Camaro. So you know,
my my birthday is coming up. You know what to
get me? Okay, I will if I win the one point.
I'm just saying I win the one point five billion.

(24:56):
Everybody's gonna get something on their wish list sub to availability,
and and you're responsible for the taxes, because that's the
kind of guy I ad. AT's AT's a contenious one
on Twitter where you find Arny find me over at
Swollen Dome. Oh, he watched the end of that experiment

(25:16):
load management injuries for the Warriors. They go down and
defeat another loss, uh for them, and they keep mounting.
Now three and seven, you heard it, and Steve de
Sager's update brandon Ingram your leader, making hay as he
does h for the Pelicans getting it done. And it's
another road that bothers you that he was resting everybody.

(25:38):
Who would have bothered you more if he was resting
everybody at home. Oh I don't care. Well, I mean
it's a it's a Western Conference team. So anybody that
wants to get into the buddy only comes here one time.
And the kids, I want to see Steph Curry here.
You had plenty of time once that was announced. Now
would the secondary market be is and as ripe to

(25:59):
get you back your dollar? No? Right, So if you
bought tickets on the secondary market, then yeah, you're a
little you may be a little salty because you got
left hold in the bag. On the plus side, you
watched the Pelicans win and you got to see Zion play,
which was the other thing everybody complained, Right, So you
got you find those wins, aren't I'm telling you get
the glass half full. The Pelicans one of those teams

(26:19):
that we've had on the radar on the show, Jason
and I and and part of it being all right,
they had a fantastic run last year and there was
the consideration of do you bring Zion back if he's
ready to go, and there were reports that maybe they
were considering it, but all of a sudden would change
up the chemistry the minutes and you've got to try
to ramp him up to get back in, you know,

(26:41):
to get into the playoffs. In that final stretch they
played a lot of great basketball. They opted not to
bring him back, and so you add him back into
the equation and you raise your eyebrow going if this works,
dot dot dot. They're one of those teams, right Memphis
with a big blowout win John Morant. We've sell the
brandon him. We did that last year. Now it's the

(27:02):
if he's healthy, Zion Williamson, what does he do for
a New Orleans squad led by Ingram and McCollum, uh
and and getting some good balance and scoring. Larry NaN's
had twenty and eight off the bench. But as we know,
what's gonna be lampooned, what's going to be uh target
is another loss for the Warriors. We talked about it

(27:25):
a little bit last hour. It's not to me, it's
not time to raise concerns because you've got to try
to build rotations, etcetera. But eventually the target does move
onto this squad. Like I bring it up for the
fact that we've talked a lot about the Nets who
have gotten a lot less, even with all of the
drama and everything going on up until the last forty

(27:47):
eight hours, a lot less than the Lakers. Well when
do you go, when do you worry about it? Then?
Then what are you gonna complain? When do you say, hey,
you know this isn't right. We've got to do something.
I know you kind of laughing. People were picking on
the Lakers that over five, But even here's Steve Kerson.
We gotta do something on the road, and well he's
seeing something he doesn't like in the in the rotations

(28:09):
and the young guys maybe an effort thing defensively come out.
Look who bench? Oh I mean, but those guys took
off and they decided to punt so on this one.
And you know you can excoriate them for that. I'm
sure plenty of folks will take to their social media,
whether they're verified or not, and they paid their eight

(28:29):
bucks in their accounts current or not that and they'll
be mad, going, oh, you think of the children, like
I'm thinking of eighty two games and a postseason. Sorry,
I understand that. I understand that I can't, but but
ten games into an eight two game regular season, if
these guys are legitimately banged up a little bit, and
let's face it, coming off a long season and a

(28:52):
long postseason, and then you're right back to work, right
because they played back rarely they played back to back game.
They all priv been flying private jets out there. Yeah,
I'm not comparing him to miners, aren'ty. I'm just saying
from a you know, as you get a bit older
in the game, because none of these guys, as much
as they're they're young on a grand scale, and they're

(29:15):
not Lebron in terms of how we target him in
terms of I mean, he's got ads against father time,
so it's fair game. He decided to monetize it against
Jason Momoa, so we'll run with it there. Jason Momoa,
who I ran into buying meat several times during covidet here. Yeah,
he was, you know that he and his family they
you know, and they've they've since had you know, family

(29:36):
family did stuff go on. But he was at the
market down the street from me, and I ran into
him like two weeks in a row. Uh, proteins. No,
like literally I'm standing there and also like, all right,
evidently this is our shopping time to him, I did.
I just said hello, like the the kids that were
in the in the aisles and stuff. No, no, no,

(29:59):
I something coming. I bothering the dude. Come on, I
would totally bother the dude. That was when we still
had the masks on too. But he's walking around. He's
got the tattoos and the hair and whatever else and
the eyebrows. No, not at all, not as tall as
I would have pictured. But but that's all of Hollywood.
A lot of guys are as tall as me, Arnie.

(30:22):
Not quite the fire plug that I know exactly. Hey,
later on this hour or the beginning of next, will
we will we will get an update, uh from the
Laker game. We'll talk a little Lakers basketball and Matt
Ryan with our guy Dan Woiky. But you know, just
but also getting an idea want to pass right, No,

(30:45):
that was fantastic. There was a two handed over the
head pass. No, and that's just it. Of course, she
also know they're going for a three. So the fact
that that guy got caught where he did. Uh, and
and like many cornerbacks, I argued Arnie, at some point,
you gotta look for the ball. Now you do, You
did right, and if nothing else, see you see the
trajectory of the ball and try to make a play

(31:06):
on the ball instead of getting back on the man.

Thanks for our buddy Dan Wake forgiving us a few
minutes of his time before he needed to get back
to his place to watch the second half of the
upstart Jazz against the Lakers five seventy four. As we

(32:10):
come up midway, uh in the third quarter. Now, I
worked seven to eleven Pacific time Monday through Friday. They
don't play on weekends. I didn't know. I have kids, Arenie.
It still like my time every now and again. And
then if it's a during the football season, if you

(32:31):
got a nice little Sunday afternoon til sometimes you'll have
that over at at what it what is at the crypt?
Uh that we call it now instead of Staples. Uh No,
I'm I'm out and about um watching the NFL, analyzing
the NFL. We're getting ready to listen to Chris Plank
and Arnie span your wax poetically on Fox Sports Radio.

(32:52):
As I go to and from my daughter's soccer events
and the other daughter's theater events. Man, yeah, yeah, Now
that's part of the next phase, right as as you
get to and whether I win the one point six
billion dollars or not. Uh, there is there is an
endgame for me and in the horizon, and it's a
plot of land on a body of water with a

(33:14):
porch swing and the ability to go to a game
whenever the hell I want. That's not for another couple
of years, sticking around Fox Sports Radio a while longer.
But when we look at it and on the whole
that I mean that that's the goal for me. I
still have a lot of college stadiums that I need
to check off my list. I did a lot when
I was a student in the years after as a

(33:36):
Northwestern student, we went to all the stadiums in the
Big Ten and and we're treated really well. And so
had Golden year. You had that Golden year for Northwestern. No,
but here's the thing. When they went to the Rose Bowl.
That was the year after I graduated. So I graduated
in June of nine, and then they have the Rose

(33:56):
Bowl year. So I knew all the guys on the
point shaving scandal team, and those guys were the guys
I got tickets from. Arnie. You want to talk about
breaking your heart and also sweating that suddenly you become
the fall guy because you've signed off for tickets on
a bunch of forums and cities all over this all
over the United States, both for football and basketball. In Tennessee,

(34:21):
beat Georgia for tomorrow. I want you to know that
you've decided you're already in there. You're Tennessee. First of all,
I thought the line was eleven and a half. I
guess it was eight and a half. Eight and a
half or eight, depending where you want the points. Don't
need the points, take the points, of course. Well let's start.
Let's start there. We'll get into the NFL as the
hour goes on. We'll make some picks later on this hour,

(34:43):
Todd Ferman is gonna join us for an extended segment
next hour. So get the pad and pencil, UH together
so you can get some picks and some goodness to
bet the Board podcast that Todd's part of. He's been
kind and generous so both you and I for many
a year here on OX Sports Radio. Arnie one of
my favorite guys, UH, and I always appreciate a few

(35:05):
minutes of insight because I can pretty much ask him
anything and it's like a rain Man effect. And I
say that with all the love because we throw random stuff,
like we don't send scripts to him. I don't know
if you guys send them questions. We don't. We just
gotta ask him to and he's always right out in
the money which is, um, I gotta figure out how
to make that work for me. If he'd write a
book as to how I can do that, I'm on

(35:26):
board and I would buy that. I have a TV
twelve uh copy of Brady's book. It still has the
rapping on it, so we'll leave that there for now.
It is a signed copy. But that's a whole other
conversation for another time. Good old Simon and Schuster given
me a little bit, a little bit of love. But
there you go. First, first playoff rankings come out this week.

(35:49):
And because we like chaos, and we like the the
pageantry and and let's face it, it's a television show,
not only when those are revealed, but sport our television shows.
Sorry if you haven't, if you've heard this before, yeah,
I've been saying it forever. I know, Arnie, you've been
on board with this because in the end, you gotta
have a nice product. Steve de Sager was given us
some of the ratings updates because it's the last bastion

(36:12):
of I Must See, right. I used to have Must
See TV on Thursday nights on on NBC all those
years ago, with friends and cheers and all that other stuff. No, no, no,
Now it's now it's just live sporting events. So you
can bet them, you can watch him, you can mock
your friends. All of those things come into play. But
when we we get these rankings out, you know, there's
always gonna be one or two spots that maybe people

(36:34):
get a little bit up in arms. You know. I
bring in my my late eighties all right, early eighties too, uh,
and nineties wrestling love with with Rick Flair, the old
mantra to be the man, you gotta beat the man
and Georgia. Yes, the players have changed, and you can
go down the schedule and go uh. But to this
point they're still undefeated. So you wonder if there's you know,

(36:58):
the saltiness of hey, you know, we're still doing our thing.
Let's show us some respect. Meanwhile, Tennessee, last time anybody
was paying attention really was Peyton Manning was finishing his tenure.
I watched him in Peerless Price dominate Northwestern team the
year after that Rose Bowl down in the Citrus Bowl.
I was again a fun experience my first trip to

(37:18):
Disney World, but for a game day experience, one of
the most miserable things ever. Watching them beat the hell
out of us and throw the ball all over the yard.
But Peyton Manning's back on the sidelines. Now obviously they
had the Tea Martin Championship here, but now he's back
on the sideline and there eight. No. After many years
of handwringing and confusion, coaching changes and wondering if the

(37:40):
Vols would ever resurrect again, and here we are. You know,
it's amazing what Tennessee has done. UM. I never would
have expected to go in defeated. It wasn't like they
had a murderous schedule. But you know, when you're looking
at the Alabama game and even l s U in Kentucky,
not a bad team out there, but at least a
bunch of ranked teams, something Georgia has not played. You

(38:00):
know the fact that what they did to Alabama, the
points they put on the board. My questions is, though,
to you when you take a look at your top four, UM,
and certainly Tennessee, Ohio State, Georgia, I think is everybody's
one through three, no matter how you want to put it.
I don't want to put Clempson the number four, even
though they're undefeated. I'd rather put Michigan in Alabama, because
is it fair to penalize Alabama for one loss to

(38:23):
the perhaps number one team in a three point game
and a shootout and and say, no, no playoff for you,
but you lost to Tennessee. I'd rather see Alabama and
then Clemson. Clemson, I believe is a fraud. I really do.
I I looked. I know they're undefeated, but um, you know,
the Syracuse game was closed a little bit. They struggled
against what was it the Florida State game. They've had

(38:44):
trouble in a couple of the games. I think the
NC State game was semi clothes wake fourth. So I'm
waiting for the trip up. It just hasn't happened yet. Well,
and that's the question. They've got a big game here,
and I think that's one of the beauty, beautiful things
that came out of these first play off rankings is
that you do get Tennessee and Georgia on the field
the following Saturday, and you do get Clemson at Notre

(39:08):
I don't know what Notre Dame is, right, because they
played some big games and they've had a few where
you're just scratching your head, going, all right, that was
no effort whatsoever, right where where they've gone and they've
gotten blown out or they've get they lose outright to Stanford,
you are able to put up points all over the place,
but and at home against a bad Stanford team, you

(39:29):
can only put up four team. That was on my
birthday too, so they really ruined. Know what they Stanford
kind of helped because you know, growing up in Chicago,
you've got a lot of folks that just to fix
themselves to Notre Dame, even if they have no connection
to the school. And that's fine, I guess as I
get older, adopted and find joy wherever you can. But
six fourteen not exactly a thriller, but a game that

(39:52):
you're expecting Notre Dame to win. They dropped there. Uh
they beat up on Syracuse. Syracuse with a lot of
issues in that game. But now Clemson gets to defend
that ranking and defend that position against Notre Dame and
they're five and three on the year. Remember going all
the way back to that open against Ohio State. Now

(40:14):
you look at it, go, well, it was against the
number two teams and the and North Carolinas, the top
twenty team, and they beat them, and like you just
start doing this and you're trying to make your reasoning.
And I guess that's why I go back to what
I started with of it's a TV show and we
need to have more episodes than just one big one

(40:35):
to just say all right here it is, eat it right,
And I want to see if there's any teams. Um.
You know, I mentioned Michigan and Alabama, which is the
top six, and I still think I have Alabama inside
my top four, maybe even Michigan instead of Clemson. But
I'm whether for the team like a TCU or in
Oregon or even a USC. I know people love USC.

(40:55):
If it was it was up to Colin, USC would
be number one right now. But I of the if
any of those teams are you know, right outside inside
the top ten and be able to sneak out into
the into the playoff. See, that's why I'm learning to
adopt teams. I'm learning to accept that because you know,
it happens to the best of us. I think USC
might be able to do it, or you know, one

(41:16):
of them. Look at u c l A right there
loss to Oregon, but otherwise they've been dominant. You've got
a good story in and Dorian Thompson Robinson under center.
They put up a lot of points that are exciting.
You get the l A market, all of those things,
But they've got some tests ahead of them before they're
done here, including that head to head the team playoff

(41:42):
UM ratings would be through the roof. You want that
l A market, and that's like a national market when
you have USC well and and that's one of the
things as you watch this play out right of you're
trying to figure out and we'll do this in the
NFL at the beginning of next hour before we talk
to Todd. We're trying to figure out where that line
of demarcation is right, Where where's the back end of

(42:03):
teams that if the schedule falls the right way you
get an upset or two. How far is it for
you know, you have that cut off line of squads
that that could make it into I think it USC,
that's what because l s U has two losses, and
I think they were like right there at number ten.
You mentioned U C l A, but I think they
got too much to climate. I think it's TCU, Oregon

(42:25):
and USC and the other three teams that are possibly
can get up there into the top four otherwise, I
don't think anybody else could really do it. But if
you if you c l A runs the table. We
still gotta watch what Oregon does. Uh, and then old
mss there in between their sandwiched in between, and a
lot of it goes into numbers and and then impressing

(42:46):
the polsters as much as we tell people that doesn't
matter the same way that it once did. Remember when
guys were running up to score on teams and scoring
seventy and be like, why you gotta do that? Well,
because people that don't watch this that vote are going
to see that we put seven be on somebody. How
do we still have that that you could vote and
not watch the games? I still don't know if that's possible,
but wow, I mean you can do radio and TV

(43:07):
and never watch a game, well you watch most of it.
I mean, it would be kind of hard to come on.
It'd be not hard to come out and talk about
the Tennessee Georgia game without watching it. You know, you
can watch a highlight rate that you have to know
if you've been wasted my dive all these years, what'll
you and me, both my friends and I think about,
you know, for me for fantasy football purposes. I go

(43:29):
back and watch all the NFL games. That's a lot
of bad Bears football. That's a lot of Lions games
that I consume that I probably could have been doing
something else. You know. I was just looking at the
schedule tomorrow. There's only like I think, Ohio States doing
early game, and then all the good games are studying
like three thirty Eastern. So I like the fact that
you you did not make the Ohio State game a

(43:49):
good game. It was the only was doing what they're
playing Northwestern. That's why unfortunately my squad what what is
it thirty eight and a half right now? Yeah, I
was thinking about taking the points of that one TCU
in Texas Techa an important game, so I shouldn't say
that either. It's it's a home game and the spread
is thirty eight and a half. That's that's where we're

(44:12):
at in this world. Uh. And I can do a
long Pat Fitzgerald rant, but I'll do it another time,
maybe in the podcast, maybe the TikTok while I dance.
I don't know. We'll figure that out. But plenty of
Top twenty five action on the table tomorrow. We'll get
some thoughts from Todd ferman On on the college slate
as well. We'll do some NFL picks, upset picks, and

(44:36):
picks against the spread, and Arnie, you've got forty five
things written out in your notebook pads, so everybody always
I do. I do the full NFL slate from my
purposes every week. Yeah, I'm like two games above five hundred,
so it's nothing to write home about. I was listening
to Caveno and Rich before us. I'm doing their picks,

(44:56):
but they're doing teasers. They're like changing the line by
seven point t. It was like, you can't do that
because every everybody wants to fashion themselves a gambler. Now
exactly is that? Is that not true? Or what? Everybody's
a professional gambler now you know? I'm a look there.
They found a different angle to It's so good for them.
I wasn't aware they were doing teaser things. But once

(45:19):
upon a time I used to try to do betting
lines and stuff on the network. I was told not to. So, oh, yeah,
it's been it's it's been a that's how long it was.
It's either I've been here a really long time or
the world shifted pretty fast. Yeah, I think it's changed
really fast, because, yeah, there was a time that you
weren't allowed to talk gambling at all, or you know,

(45:39):
the only time you got lines was in the back
of the USA today where the Dandy Sheridan lines I
think is what they were, Dandy Sheridan. That was the
first radio, our first TV show I ever did. He
was part of. He was the guy. It was me
and Jerry Glanville, and I forget who the host was.
That's going way back. Yeah, Glanville always used to ask

(46:00):
me about my heritage because he would get all excited
about my cheekbones. It's really weird. We're on a plane
once and he kept bringing it up. It was really strange.
Good man, though, we had a great time doing that show. Uh, Younger, leaner, meaner,
and I had more hair on my head back then, Arnie,
long long time ago. Well that's it. Well, you and
I both wear a lot of bull caps. What are

(46:21):
you gonna do? He's already Spaniard. He's in for Jason
Smith to Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon here Fox
Sports Radio and coming up next, as we are from
the tire Rack dot Com. Fox Sports Radio Studios.
