Speaker 2 (00:50):
Well. I will say this, Mike Carmon.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
If the United States women's team goes on to lose
this game tonight against the Netherlands, yeah, we have to
change and alter and pivot to there's aliens now, apparently, I.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Mean, I mean, no, that's it.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
That's I mean, when you get an admission like that
and anything else that happens in the sporting world gets
uh gets pushed to the side place. I mean, let's
call it. Call it what it is. I mean, the
evidence has always been around. You look at shoe hey
o Tani out there dominating. He can't explain him.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
It's like it's Independence Day.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Oh if we have aliens and there we have evidence
of l we have spaceships and we have alien I
did not know this.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
I didn't know. I didn't know because I'll tell I.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Mean, we've always thought about it, and we've certainly had
fiction quote unquote written for so many years. Who knew
they were truly government moles giving you a nod in
a wing? I mean, the X Files. Who's to say
that all wasn't a reality show all these years later?
I mean, what the hell? The cigarette smoking man, he

(01:51):
had all the answers.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
You guys didn't think Brian Fenley was human, did you.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
I'll tell you this much.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
If the Aliens came down to Earth today, they would
sit here, they'd come out, Oh my goodness, what are
they going to say? What's the world going to say?
Alien would go Hey, I'm at Rosario is a pretty
solid player. The Dodgers only had to give up cinder
guard He stinks, what the hell is going on here?
And then the other Oh well, all right, the aliens
of sports fans, all right, let's let's figure this out.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Now.

Speaker 4 (02:18):
Yeah that that that that was one of those things.
I know, Frostburg maybe raised a cold one.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
What any good trade for the Dodger A guy the
Dodgers could have waved and said, hey, okay, you know what, Yeah,
he's never gonna play for us again. And the Guardian, Look,
the Guardians had a log John Tum the guys coming up,
and Rosario is is a but Rosario is a solid player, right,
a guy there who is okay defensively in and a
guy that will average fifteen home runs seventy rbi, can

(02:49):
play middle infield, can play center field. He's a solid
He's an upgrade for the Dodger. He's not he's not
a he's not going to change the fortunes of a team.
But he's a solid upgrade. And the Dodgers gave Boy
and Kai that that's it. You got Cindergarten. Hey, who's
your worst player, cinder Gart, Let's do that trade?

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Like what the hell man?

Speaker 4 (03:06):
Man? They got a mind jedi mind trick thing going
on with all other gms.

Speaker 6 (03:12):
Wow, do you want to trade with US?

Speaker 4 (03:14):
I mean, And people in Chicago were growing because they
thought they were gonna get rid of Tim Anderson. MN. Man,
it's like, all right, Dodgers are gonna take him off
your hands.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
No, they got key and they go out make another deal.
Oh man, so we'll have more baseball because not only
do the Dodgers make another pretty good trade, getting Ahmed
Rosari is gonna help solve a lot of their problems.
Shoeo Tani is now off the market according to sources,
and the Angels are gonna play it out and play
the rest of the season with But as we get

(03:45):
ready for the start of the second half, here the
US women's national team, as we mentioned, uh down one
nothing to Netherlands. The Netherlands goal early in the game,
right through the teeth of the United States defense. And yeah,
it's the first time they've trailed in the World Cup
game since two thousand eleven. It is a new different
kind of reality for the United States. But the first

(04:07):
thing I want to say is if I just sum
up the United States through the first three halves, they
have played the game against Vietnam the first half here, right,
you can say a lot of different things.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
What happened? What happened?

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Microanalyzes that the United States, Okay, at times they look good,
but they don't look like the Women's World Cup favorites.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
This does not.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Look like a team that is burning to win. This
looks like a team that is frustrated, got frustrated easily
in the first half. And if I'm given the second
the halftime speech for the women's national team, it's pretty easy.
Hey girls, Hey ladies, Hey women, it's time to fight.
I'm thinking how I would do it to the girls
that I would play. I would say, it's okay to
be pissed. It's okay to get pissed off a little bit,

(04:46):
and let's let's finish some stuff here. Let's finish some
stuff off. It's exact speech I've given to my team
and my younger you know, the thirteen fourteen, you know,
over the course of my life, I would say this
is this is okay to be pissed off. This is
okay to kind of raise our game a bit because
the team looks pretty out of sync. You know, again,
I've talked about trying to score. They're gonna have to
find somebody else to score. As the games get bigger,

(05:07):
it's going to get more and more difficult. And that's
exactly what's come home to roost right now with the
United States in this first half against the Netherlands, is
that you know, hey, look, this team is pretty good
and they're not afraid of the United States, and the
United States looks like a team that really is not
as they don't look as smooth and as clicky as
they could be, especially when they try to move the

(05:28):
ball up offensively. It's a lot of hey, one good play,
but you know, you need two or three good plays
to put the ball in the back of the net.
The United States doesn't have it right now.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Yeah, I mean, first ten minutes or so, it looked
a lot more in sync than we saw in their opener,
and then just like that, it went away. I mean,
you look at the stats for the half, sixty two
percent possession by Netherlands, a lot of wide open space
in the midfield, the United States with ten.

Speaker 6 (05:57):
Files, and I think if you did the old how.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
Many of those were retaliations because they were a step
slow and got frustrated Eight seven. I mean a lot
where it wasn't part of Hey, I'm playing the ball
and I get a piece of body. It was no, no, no,
I've already lost the ball in possession and I'm just pissed.

Speaker 6 (06:15):
So it's a little bit of that.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
And then Crystal Dunn had one of the worst sequences
you've seen from any member of this team for as
long as they've.

Speaker 6 (06:24):
Been running it.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
Yeah, you know, the slip and the touch and you
know Netherland gets away with it with a bad touch
and the one shot on goal finds the back of
the net. So frustrating. You know, a number of runs
can't get that connecting pass, you know, running one on three,
one on four, looking for help and nowhere to be found.

Speaker 6 (06:47):
So that one would have been must have been one
hell of a halftime speech, I would guess.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Oh man, I'll tell you it was. It was a
very difficult first half to watch. You could see the frustration. Yeah,
you know, even even in the simple, the simple plays
like there was a play in the forty fifth minute
where the United States was going to get a scoring
chance and Lindsey Horan gave a nice downfield pass and
it was one of those easy chest control and we

(07:12):
have the ball about twenty feet outside of the eighteen
and I think it was Sophia Smith, but I couldn't
tell because I was watching for far away and there's
not a defender near. It's a simple chest drop and
we have control of the ball and we're going in
for a shot.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
And it was an.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Easy pass and Chess dropped and she kicked it to
the defender and the Netherlands ran the ball up the field.
And I said, this is not a team that is
in sync. This is not a team that is operating
at the level it need to be right now. And
you know, we talked about it. We talked about the
warning signs of Yeah, the United States is going to
be the favorite because they won the last two World Cups.
They have a lot of talent. Other teams are good,

(07:47):
and is this gonna be? Is this a championship quality team?
You have a lot of new pieces and they got
to come together fast, and you gotta find somebody else
besides Alex Morgan, who's going to score a goal? And
so far that's not what's happened at all for the
United States. We had so many shots against Vietnam. Yeah,
we scored three goals. It was much more difficult than
it needed to be. And now down one nothing in

(08:07):
the second half. I mean, really, this is good house.
The United States is going to break through, right. I
know roose Level just came in the games halftime substitution.
Probably Repino will come in about twelve or fifteen minutes
or so. But this is not at all what you expected,
what the general fan expected seeing United States soccer.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
But I'll tell you what it was.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
You and I were both we were a little bit
nervous coming in and now it's time to get a
little bit more nervous.

Speaker 7 (08:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
I think one of the things and Netherlands being an
opponent that they don't have the desperation and the like
the mindset that you saw defensively, the way Vietnam packed
in the box. Right, there's still a lot of shots
on goal, but were they quality scoring chances? We can
fight about what those definitions are, but a lot of

(08:54):
it was we're just not going to get beat twelve.
Nothing like that's our goal coming out of this game.
Maybe we get one or two scoring chances, but then
you get to Netherlands and and they take a couple
of the early runs from the US, and fine, but
they're they're sound and patient. Right, hey, let's back it out.
We don't we don't have anything moving forward. All right,

(09:15):
let's let's stall it back out because I mean you're
now up one nothing. You'll see more of that in
the second half. There's no need to make, uh, try
to force something that isn't there. Right, You're gonna make plays,
You're gonna push the ball up the field. But when
you know that that breaks down, the defenders get set.

Speaker 6 (09:33):
Back it out.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
Here's another minute, you know, play it all the way
back to the goalies you need to. And they've been
patient connecting passes, and they're starting to get a little
bit of the overplay from the US potentially to set
up you know, the slow play kind of situation where
you get another scoring chance. Because even with all that possession,
one shot on goal in the first half and they

(09:55):
made a count.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Twitter and how about a Fresco x X and how
about a fresco Mike has swollen down The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon at the end of your first year,
discover credit cards automatically double all the cash back of
her And that's right. Everything you wearned is doubled seriously
see terms check it out for yourself at discover dot
com slash match, you know, and you can already see,
even in the last couple of minutes the frustration for

(10:17):
the United States continuing to boil over. Rose Levell, who's
been in the game now for about four minutes already
just gets a yellow card in the attacking zone when
Netherlands is trying to break out. As you mentioned the
fouls for the United States, I feel like they mentally,
they're frustrated, and I don't know, you know, you got
to find a way back from that, and I don't

(10:38):
know that they're playing right now in a way you
can find your way back, because look, the Netherlands is
dropping back defensively and are not going to allow the
United States to get through. And you know, we could
wind up seeing a game that's just like this, which
is what we talked about at the beginning of the
entire World Cup. Didn't know if it would come home
like it would right now. But look, you know, having
Netherlands in the group is a tough thing. And even

(10:59):
if the United States loses this game, they're still gonna
most likely wind up qualifying for the knockout round. But
you see the teams are good and and and the
nightmare scenario is exactly what happened. The United States gets
down early where play kind of sort of closes up
a little bit. And when play closes up, you got
a team that's not as strong offensively to be hard
for the United States to make through and and and

(11:20):
and dent the back of the net can be very
very difficult. That that one nothing is is you know, yeah,
you can say, okay, it's a goal, it's early, we'll
get it back. And now that's kind of a nightmare
start to the United States.

Speaker 4 (11:29):
Well, I mean we've watched it through the first three
halves of actions. The set pieces have been sloppy. I
haven't gotten any really clean looks, and and trying to
trying to work the the Netherlands squad has been difficult,
trying to find any angle and space as you.

Speaker 6 (11:49):
Go through, and you're doing a.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
Lot of diving and and a lot of heavy touches
right anticipating contact because let's face it, it's been physical.
That's a thing you could say from this World Cup overall.
And certainly I want, you know, you coaching your daughter's squad,
me watching what my daughter's you know, the in the
next level up and how much more aggressive gets I mean,
this has been more aggressive.

Speaker 6 (12:13):
This is like the Wrexham.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
Game yesterday because you know where we got bodies flying everywhere.
Good good, good thoughts out to our our guy Mullin
as well. Yeah, I know, punctured long good lord. Yeah,
I mean we we've just seen so much physicality in
this tournament and the number of cards. We've had a
couple of instances here where what's curious to me is

(12:37):
when officials will or won't call a handball, because we've
seen it a couple of times in this game. I
think one on either side where it's like very clearly
knocked it down with their hands, like are we calling
this or are we not? Because everybody stops around it
because they all see it handball?

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Oh no, apparently not keep playing, all right, play all right,
all right? Because they did that happen.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
I want to say it was maybe two minutes before
the goal set up hat and so you know, not
that one leads directly to the other, but you know,
as you're going through the game, you're trying to find
moments of just all right, what.

Speaker 6 (13:14):
Are we doing.

Speaker 4 (13:15):
And we've watched certainly some curious referring to this point,
and I say nothing to say that that's anything on
the US here, they've played terrible soccer, bad spacing, no connections,
and a lot of finger pointing.

Speaker 6 (13:31):
Trina, are you on that?

Speaker 4 (13:32):
Are you that that's your space? So it's it's a
curious sort as we get into this fifty fourth minute.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Here, all let's let's take a listen. Let's hear the
goal of the game, scored by Netherlands early in the
first half.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Yeah, that's not happening live. Why not? Did you bet
on the game? Have you bet on it? Do you
bet on that on Netherlands? Any where?

Speaker 5 (13:55):
Do I live live in America? You think I'm giving
you the Netherlands goal? It happened in the game.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
I don't. It happened in the game.

Speaker 7 (14:02):
I do give up.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
You shouldn't be happy.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
You got Ahmed Rosario for nothing, You got for absolutely nothing.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
You should be Guardian's God. Got yeah.

Speaker 5 (14:11):
Rob them Okivela getting that Netherlands good?

Speaker 2 (14:17):
All right? I guess apparently we're not getting the Netherlands gone.

Speaker 5 (14:19):
We might not get a highlight at all the night
If the USA doesn't step it.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Up all right, Well, trust me, it happened, and the
United States is losing one nothing as we get close,
allegedly to the fifty sixth minute of the game, which.

Speaker 6 (14:31):
Is just the play of the day now going to
be the final out of the Mets Yankees.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Listen, No, I think it might be the sound of
money flying away with Aaron Rodgers giving away thirty three
million dollars.

Speaker 6 (14:44):
Well, have some thoughts on that.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Jets Jets, Jets, Jets, Jet Yeah, you know.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
A big trade has just gone down in Major League Baseball.
Just moments after we brought you the story hey earlier today,
the Angels, through many sources, let everybody know that show, Hey,
Otani is off the market. They are not going to
trade their star. And I wouldn't be surprised if it
was as simple as a conversation where Otani said, Hey, yeah,

(15:16):
I don't want to go somewhere for a couple of months.
I don't know what's going you know what it's it
sounds very hectic, it's a little it's a lot involved,
and let's just play out this season and see what happens.
And the Angel said, okay, fine, I wouldn't be surprised
if that's how it it.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
It actually shook down, And so I spoke part two,
you did, and we said, hey, and now that you have.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
To see if the Angels are going to wind up
actually being buyers at the deadline, and they are absolutely buyers.
And way do we tell you this trade they just
pulled off with Mike Harmon Chicago White Sox. The Angels,
according to Jeff Passing, finalizing a deal to a choir
right handed Lucas Gilito and relieve a Ronaldo Lopez in
exchange for catcher edgar Quero and left hander Kay Busch.

(15:59):
The number there are two and three prospects in the
Angels organization that who is headed for Giolito and Lopez.
That's what the Ages are doing. They're finalizing that trade.
They are absolutely buying. And why I like the guts boy,
I feel like the White Sox just pull it over

(16:20):
on him, because you know, Lopez is a reliever and
he and he's been pretty serviceable.

Speaker 6 (16:25):
He's serviceable, he's solid.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
The walk rate is a little higher than you'd like,
especially you know you're looking at some of the lineups
you're facing down the stretch run, you get a little
bit nervous. But his strikeout for nine is certainly pretty dominant,
So you're hoping to corral the best out of him.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
Yeah, and Lucas Giolito has been solid mainly for his career, right,
but you've always looked for that breaked through.

Speaker 4 (16:52):
Right, there's one of those starts that or he'll go
on a little run where you think it's now he's
pushing into that next level, kind of like we had
with Dylan Cees. Uh, you know, for a hot minute,
you know the year he had a year ago. But
now you're trying again to see if you can't get
one of those stretches down down the home stretch and

(17:14):
help propel you into a wildcard situation to where you
can capture the best of him. Look, he's going through
a divorce. He went public with that a little while ago.
Has talked openly that he wanted to stay with the
White Sox, but clearly understood the business side of it
and what the team needed to do going forward. So
a little little bit of a refreshing thing for him.

(17:35):
I think he's also a SoCal kid, if I'm remembering correctly.

Speaker 2 (17:39):
You sound depressed, buddy. I'm sorry you sound depressed. You
should be. You got you got the.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
Number two in the Angels nowhere but for the Angels,
what does that mean? But it's well, no, listen, listen.
But but look, my team's not goingywhere. I mean, we're
twenty games back.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Terrible.

Speaker 5 (17:53):
No.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
I mean, look, they do everything they can to try
to sell me. Hey, here's the here's a home from
Eloya Medagine. Okay, you know the only thing that showed
me was that he was actually in the lineup.

Speaker 7 (18:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
No, look, I like that.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
The Angels were gutsy. I like them went out and
they got a starting pitcher and reliever that's going to
help them. But wow, the number two and three prospect
in the organization.

Speaker 6 (18:18):
But you're showing, Yeah, but you're showing did you need to.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Give that up?

Speaker 1 (18:21):
I mean, I don't know that you needed to give
that up. I don't know if you need to give
up for Lucas g Alita, Ronaldo Lopez. I don't know
you needed to give up such high prospects.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Two and three.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
That's like, hey, we're getting Jan Soda, we're getting the
top three prospects in the organization. We're getting money, we're
gonna applay. You got two and three for g Ja Lopez.

Speaker 5 (18:38):
Just remember it's the Angels organizations. So just because it's
their top prospects doesn't mean they're top pro I see
what you're saying.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
No, but well it's he's you know, and putting the
emphasis on the syllables of what I had just done.

Speaker 6 (18:53):
But the idea that you know, going team to team.

Speaker 4 (18:57):
Right when we talk about the Dodgers, and you know
all these years Frostbury, you know this well, you know
where they rank. You know sometimes it's going to be
part of where they're playing in the organization. And when
the guys get traded away, guess what. The Dodgers knew
what they had, Hence they were okay with trading those
assets away as opposed to other guys who might not
have ranked the same by some of the national prospect

(19:20):
ranking services.

Speaker 6 (19:21):
So you know what you have, what you've seen. And
for the Angels, look.

Speaker 4 (19:25):
You've had o'tani and Trout and a couple of years
of Albert Poohles at that start of that contract, I'd
like to say rendon't, but he's never on the field.
I hope he's well and a little scary update off
is the current injury. But the reality is that that
hasn't gotten you much. So you know what if it's
going to cost you a bunch of prospects to go
and bolster things, even if they're not a list superstars

(19:49):
that come with a thirty five million dollar contract that
you know, you go and you make those deals.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
It's look, it's a it's a good deal because it
makes them better right now. But I just I just
don't know that they had to give up what they
gave up. I think they kind of got got a
little bit in this trade.

Speaker 4 (20:08):
And look, they're gonna be aggressive right now, right I mean,
that's the thing you're gonna be. You might be overly
aggressive because you want to show that you're doing a
make good and everything you can. You're pushing all the
chips to the center of the table to impress show hey,
o Tani that you're going to to go for it.
So that might be U you know, like the guy

(20:29):
in You Hate the Draft Day analogy, But everybody's seen
the movie where suddenly you get into their their psyche
and their desperation.

Speaker 6 (20:37):
And that's kind of where we're at with the Angels.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
They've got to put their best foot forward if they
have any hope of keeping him around this offseason.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
Like you know, and I get that.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
I'm glad they are showing that because now Atani has
to say, Okay, they're serious. They want to build a
winner here, and maybe this helps me stay well. In
addition well, in addition to we want to be better,
we want to also show show hey that, hey, we
are dedicated to getting better and making the playoffs. And
maybe the next two months you'll get the taste of
what a Pennant race is like, whether we make the

(21:07):
playoffs or not, you'll want to stay. And so, you know,
part of that is what's at stake as well with
making this trade. But it's you have to understand what
you don't need to give up certain things to get
it right. Like if you wanted to get Blake Snell,
let's just say, who's been lights out the last couple months.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
He's been a great pitcher, pitching World Series. That I get.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
Okay, we're giving up the second and third prospects in
our organization, but Gi Alito has been a solid guy,
and Ronaldo Lopez has been a kind of a solid reliever.
And I don't know that for solid guys you give
up prospects that are at the very top of your
farm system.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
I just don't think you had to do that.

Speaker 6 (21:41):
Now.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
That's why, Hey, for the White Sox, I think those
Angels got got in that trade.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
I don't know that that's what you have to give
up to get those guys. But the better pitchers.

Speaker 1 (21:51):
Now, if you're gonna go get Marcus Stroman, who's having
a really good year, you know, as era for the
Cubs is right around three and he's been pitching great, Yeah,
that's a guy to go get where maybe you're giving
up a little bit more. But this, as soon as
I saw it, hit me like, wow, they really gave
up a lot to go get these two guys.

Speaker 6 (22:06):
No, there's there's certainly that, there's no question about it.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
I mean, the biggest question going forward is between arms,
because that's what we've got here in terms of the
participants of this trade. And you know, when you look
at Gilido and Lopez, is how many of these guys
are truly available? Is Stroman really available? Is he a
guy that they're looking to trade because there have been

(22:29):
conflicting reports out of Chicago, you know, to go to
the hitting side of things. With Bellinger right having a
great season, he's been tied to the Yankees, photoshopped in
Yankees uniform. No, but I've literally seen him tied die
I think maybe six or seven teams.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
But there's a lot of.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
Reports in Chicago going, well, we were just finding the
best of this guy. We got the right field fence, Like,
there's a lot of opportunity here and that they expect
that with the money that the Rickets have and will spend,
that they don't necessarily want to purge their top talent,
including Strowman, so that you know, you may have a
marketplace that doesn't have those top names. I mean the

(23:09):
Mets even do they really want to trade Verlander Insureser?

Speaker 6 (23:14):
Maybe maybe not.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
Oh, I'd love to be able to trade them. No, No,
but you're not in charge of this.

Speaker 7 (23:20):
I know. I know you may.

Speaker 1 (23:23):
Be Dodgers. Let's just make that, but they're gonna be Dodgers.
The Dodger are gonna get both those guys. Both those guys.
Just thinking of both those guys, it'll be James Autman
for Verlander and Suzer. That's the trade. There you go,
that's all we need.

Speaker 6 (23:37):
You want to you want to chime in on that
they're prospered. We don't.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
We don't have enough guys that are alread even hitting
two sixty in the lineup. We didn't gotta get it
two forty five.

Speaker 4 (23:46):
Yeah, but when he gets a hold on boys and
it's thrilling, just like last night.

Speaker 5 (23:52):
We don't have enough dumb buttons, Mike for me to
chime in.

Speaker 4 (23:54):
Well, that's what I figured. You were being judicious and
cautious with any kind of energet.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
There now for Otani and meaning that he's gonna go
through the Angels, going for it. Right there are four
games out of the Wildcard. Now they have a bunch
of teams to leap frog. But you don't need to
look at that right now. You don't really look at
the teams you have to jump ahead of until you
get to September. Just keep playing baseball and a cut.
You know one team will keep playing, well, a couple
of teams won't. You don't know how it's gonna be you.

(24:21):
You can't keep looking all this team that say, wait
till the last month, and that's when you see, Okay,
who's who we gotta leap frog. So they're sitting right
now and they played pretty well right there, won seven
of their last time so and this decision that was
made to go for it. If you're looking to blame
somebody to not have Otani be traded, blame the Yankees,
because I guarantee you that changed everything for them when

(24:41):
they try to look, are we gonna be sellers?

Speaker 2 (24:43):
Are we not? Do we keep Otani?

Speaker 7 (24:45):
Do we not?

Speaker 1 (24:46):
Personally, I like I said, I'm sure Otani walked up
and said, no, I don't want to go anywhere. It's
a little bit of a weird thing. But for the
team to believe in themselves sweeping the Yankees, I guarantee
you that was it.

Speaker 6 (24:56):
I guess one of the teams you're looking directly at.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
Absolutely, we're better than they are.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
We don't have Mike Trout and we got issues right now.
We just swept the Yankees. That was what convinced them. No,
let's look to see if we can be buyers at
the deadline and try to extend O Tawny and his
time with us, whether it's for two months or another
ten years.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
Whatever, it's going to.

Speaker 4 (25:14):
Be well, because that's the other part of it. You
just mentioned his name. It's you know, like getting that
big off season acquisition, right. That guy got hurt. You
know in training camp we talked NFL. It's like, well,
you get him back and now he's ready to go.

Speaker 6 (25:27):
Same thing here.

Speaker 4 (25:28):
Trout hasn't played, and they've been playing good baseball and
staying in the mix. I don't know what he'll be
coming back.

Speaker 6 (25:35):
I don't know how quickly he comes to the rescue.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
But if he's there in September and can give you
some meaningful played appearances, who's to say you don't have
a little bit of juice left as you get to
the end of the regular season and get.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
In Mike, My war in October is higher than Trout's.

Speaker 4 (25:51):
No, he doesn't have a lot of October at bats.
Does he have enough for a legitimate sample size? And
Trout I don't think he's got more than thirty at
bat So that's including regular season games dripped into October
first and second.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Hey, we got a makeup game from the rain out
in July. We're gonna play in October first? All right, fine, Fine,
we'll do it.

Speaker 3 (26:09):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
Joining Mike and I now on the hot line to
break it all down. He is a longtime NFL insider.
You can see him on Twitter at Jason Cole sixty two.
He is a Hall of very good voter, Jay, Call
what's happening, buddy?

Speaker 2 (26:31):
How are you?

Speaker 7 (26:34):
Here's the question. If Rogers wins the super Bowl, all right,
God on Jet, go on, go on, go on, please
goes and goes into the Hall of what would you
call him that?

Speaker 2 (26:53):
No, there's a new one just for him. When you
win the super Bowl with the Jets.

Speaker 7 (26:58):
It's the Dion Banders rule.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
If you yeah, you're in with the Jets, you got
they create a whole new one just for you.

Speaker 7 (27:07):
When you're a Jet, you have your own hall of fame.
Oh my story show sound my God is gonna You're
just gonna You're just gonna be ridiculous, aren't you? Because
because Whatdy Johnson needed needed the help.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
I just I'm stunned. Yeah, I've been a Jet fan
for my entirely. You were going on like fifty years
of being a jet fan, and we don't have a problem,
not mine. We don't know this kind of luck. Nobody
says we want to be a jet like this. Nobody
gives back thirty three million to be a jet for
longer this doesn't happen. I'm like, eventually something's I'm gonna
feel like I'm gonna I'm gonna find it. I'm in
an alternate reality. I'm getting punked. Something's gonna happen. I'm

(27:48):
gonna go, oh no, you don't really have Aaron Rodgers.
This is this is a whole joke. He's actually gonna
be back with the Packers. You're getting Jordan love.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
I mean, I really I feel the other.

Speaker 4 (27:56):
No, no, no, No.

Speaker 7 (27:57):
What's gonna happen is on the opening day, Zach Wilson
will come out in an eighth jersey and he'll actually
be playing starting It'll say Rogers, but it'll be Zach
Wilson in there. He'll take his helmet off and go surprise,
I'm back.

Speaker 6 (28:15):
No No, in a tongue planted firmly in cheek.

Speaker 4 (28:20):
Did did Darkness retreat like reprogram him where he needed
to be a tourist.

Speaker 6 (28:24):
To be included?

Speaker 4 (28:26):
And this includes changing up the numbers on this contract
to make it really seem friendly and helpful.

Speaker 7 (28:32):
I mean, I don't know, I don't know, like there's
something going on here where I mean that money. This
is not just a give back. Okay, there's there's something
else that goes with this, and we just haven't seen
the fine print or know what the agreement is or
any of that kind of stuff to know what's going

(28:54):
on to understand, Okay, how is this going to work
for Rogers benefit? Now, he does get a large amount
of leverage for next year because his cap number is
so big, right, so next year they're going to have
this their ominous number. And so the question is, at

(29:16):
that point does he come back to him and say, okay,
now I get the five year deal, whereas you give
me all that money back and you know, plus you know,
plus more. You know, like that could be what works
out in this where he gets the big payment that
you know back ended then and they spread all the
money out. But you know, who knows. I'm just really

(29:39):
curious what is the game here? What there has to
be something for Rogers to be willing to I'm not
saying that he's going to get the entire thirty three
million dollars. He may be doing this for a you know,
for a specific reason, but he's going to get something
out of it. I mean, you just don't. You don't
give away money like that without having some you know,

(30:00):
motive on the backside of us.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
Well, he's going to get the Super Bowl. He's going
to be a Super Bowl champion once or twice. He's
gonna that's going to be the trade off.

Speaker 7 (30:09):
It's almost as bad as when I used to cover
Dolphins games, didn't have to go cover Jets, you know,
cover games in New York. Just the lunacy, like you're
in the parking lot, just like so, yeah, so we're
making a super and you see everybody, you see fireman
ed and all, you know, and then parcels come. It's just,

(30:30):
you know, it was just it was so dumb.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
I want you to I want you to see it
because I know how you feel. You tell me the
Jets are a Super Bowl team.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
I know you agree with me. I know you agree
with me.

Speaker 7 (30:42):
I I might agree with you on the weekend of
the AFC Championship now and then look with coach Rogers
and coach coach Rogers, Coach Rogers running the show for

(31:06):
Robert Sola. I think they they have a really good
chance that you know, they have the fourth best quarterback,
you know, one of the top four quarterbacks. I should
say that they have one of the top four quarterbacks
in the league. Right, So if you have one of
the top four quarterbacks in the league and you have
a good defense that they did, and assuming their running
back comes back, and again, Garrett Wilson's a stud, you know,

(31:30):
assuming all that lines up, yeah, they should. They should
make the playoffs and be there. Now, the division is
it's tough just won in the league from top to bottom.
It's going to be balanced. And so do they make
do they win ten games to get themselves into the
playoffs and then have to make a run? Who knows?

Speaker 2 (31:50):
Fourteen, three, fourteen and three.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
We win the first fourteen, we clinch home field, and
we lose the last three because we sent Rogers for
the three.

Speaker 4 (31:58):
Games, Like, oh god, this is my life for the
next six months here, Cole, oh yours and mine?

Speaker 7 (32:07):
God? Yeah, well I can't. Can't you have had me
come on a Friday when you take one of your
days off, you know, every Friday. No, I agree, I'm
like moving on up, you know, play the theme song.
I'm feeling better about myself and now I gotta deal
with best like it's it's just bad karma. It's such.

(32:29):
I mean, this happens to me all the time.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
Let me ask you this. You have other offers.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
You have other offers of people wh would have put
you on the air and let your takes loose on
the nation.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
Come on, man, we help you out, are we?

Speaker 7 (32:40):
There are people around the country who are starved for
cowboy dudes. They want more cowboys. Okay, I gotta have it.

Speaker 6 (32:50):
I do the description.

Speaker 7 (32:52):
He's down there right now, he's down there. He's bringing
the haves. They imparted, the haves that brow him from
all their pay from Texas, es as. We'll have the
only built in San Antone because you know San anton
is a big cowboy town too, cowboy bee town, right,
and they'll get some special honey down that riverwalk thing
that they got there going. It's almost it's like Venice

(33:13):
met Texas. I know, that's what it is. That's what
it's like. We just put those little gondola or gondoli
or whatever those things are, we'll put those on the
riverwalk it'd beautiful. That's my thought right there. And then
you have the bees. They just chased the gondolos around.
It's just fantastic. What a ride.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
I want to see this pitch made in ox Ard.
Can we meet up there, I'll bring you, Hey, quarterback
a big hit the homes and Kirk Cousins. Everybody suddenly
loves Kirk Cousins. And then we have Marcus Mariota and
I have multiple quarterbacks including Justin Field saying yeah, no,
I'm good.

Speaker 6 (33:51):
I don't need that around. Are they gonna have Trump?

Speaker 4 (33:54):
I mean they've already got the season two casks including
Aaron Rodgers. But why would guys teams turned this away?

Speaker 7 (34:03):
I mean, look, I mean this wasn't all good, Like,
weren't there moments where you looked at Kirk Cousins when
he's putting that thing on his brain and going, yeah,
you're kind of a lunatic, Like we're showing you're really
out there, Like I'm not sure guys really want that necessarily.

(34:24):
It is a lot of work, Like you knew that
there was a problem casting this and getting guys encouraged.
When Peyton Manning has to say right off the bat,
I don't want to hear anything about how this is
a distraction, right, Like that meant that he was already
hearing from plenty of guys. Yeah that's not really for me,
like talking about I don't want to be my personal

(34:45):
life invaded that much. I can see where a lot
of guys would sit there and go, now, yeah, I
pass on this one. Now, Mahomes did it because Mahomes is,
you know, is a really good dude, and want you know,
and why to prop up his brand a little bit more.
And it worked out perfectly. But again, the kirk Cousins
stuff doesn't looks so great, and then Mark's Mariota stuff

(35:07):
to me doesn't really. I don't think he came off
looking all that great in this life.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
I just felt bad for the guy.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
Like I watched Kirk Cousins and I go, boy, he's
he's he's he's weird, he's a little awkward, he's much
more regular than you think he is. And Mariota, I
kept going, dude, I just feel so bad because I
know how it's gonna end. I know this is awful,
and I just felt so bad the entire time. I
I like the window we got for all three guys right,
like Mahomes I thought was exactly. He's exactly during the

(35:36):
game how I thought he would. Well, he curses at
thought he does. He does curse a lot more, but
during the game, it's how I thought he would be. Yeah,
But like I kind of like the window for Kirk
Cousins having the hit, the hidden room in his house
with all the with all the member of Bilia from
all his games.

Speaker 5 (35:56):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (35:56):
It's like in this hidden room behind the staircase where
I keep all my memorabilia.

Speaker 7 (36:04):
Yeah, he's just a little like like you know that
his dad has probably had a lot of effect on him.
And for anybody who doesn't know anything about Kirk Cousin's dad,
you're going to have to research that one a little
bit myself, but or yourself not I'm not going to

(36:25):
tell the whole story. But yeah, there's something about Kirk
Cousins where you go, he's a little touched, just a
little touched. Although you know, look, I I the whole
thing with it, with the chains I could. I'll give
Kirk Cousins credit like that was one of the greatest
things from last season when he was when he was

(36:47):
you knowing Barchester with the change on the plane. That
was what that was awesome I got. I gotta give
him credit on that.

Speaker 6 (36:53):
You got to get his value there, go ahead?

Speaker 2 (36:55):
What if they what if they did? You know what
if Peyton Manny wanted to do Insider? Would you be you?

Speaker 7 (37:00):
Like?

Speaker 1 (37:00):
Would they follow you around? Would you be one of
the insiders? Like you know, you and a couple other
guys for a whole season? And don't tell me a distraction.
Don't tell me be a distraction.

Speaker 7 (37:07):
It wouldn't be a distraction, right, don't tell me. Don't
don't give me that phrase. If Peyton was one of
the guys who was supposed to be followed around, is
that what you're trying to say?

Speaker 2 (37:18):
No, No, I know you were being followed.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
Around around Glazer and Schefter and you for a whole
year call it insider, and they call it insider.

Speaker 7 (37:31):
Would they watch me when I'm in like shorts and
a T shirt doing this show?

Speaker 2 (37:34):
Sure they wouldn't.

Speaker 6 (37:36):
Why not?

Speaker 2 (37:37):
This is a life one outside right here?

Speaker 7 (37:40):
This is yeah, this is the life we've chosen.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
Hall of Fame voter, Hall of very Good voter.

Speaker 7 (37:45):
Sorry, oh no, I know how all these very good
players watching Schefter text on two different phones. You know. Look,
I like Adam a lot, but all he does is
work on two phones. That's all he does. He he
doesn't really he does go anywhere. That's the funny part
about Chefter, other than the travel for you know, TV.

(38:06):
You know, for when he has to go on location
for TV shows. Like, there's nothing really going on in
Schefter's life because he doesn't want to spend any time
on a plane that he doesn't have to. Like, people
don't really understand that. Now Glazier's life. Glazier's life could
be kind of interesting that that one. I'd see mine

(38:28):
totally bloant because I'm just sitting here thinking about cowboy
bees all the time. I mean, that's really all I do.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
But we need somebody to be.

Speaker 7 (38:35):
And I watched Jeffer. I watched Jefferson's re runs, you know,
like that's what I'm doing. You know, that's my the
entirety of my life.

Speaker 1 (38:45):
It would be the time lapse of you and to
show you the same from morning till night, And would
the time life of all Jefferson's that was thrown a beard?

Speaker 7 (38:53):
Yeah, I think did Sherman Hemsley die in Texas I'm
going to guess that Sherman Hemsley might have been killed
by cowboy beats.

Speaker 6 (39:01):
Oh wow, escalated he did die in El Paso, Texas.

Speaker 7 (39:07):
Wow, he died. Yeah, Jerry was after him. This is
this is the kind of conspiracy theory. I'm fixing those.

Speaker 4 (39:17):
What do you think of the revelation about UFOs and
aliens from earlier today with the government admitting all this stuff.

Speaker 2 (39:28):
We got aliens now, j Colt, Yeah.

Speaker 7 (39:32):
Well could you met Jerry's rob Like, how do I
sell them season tickets.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
The out of town or discount? Let's go.

Speaker 1 (39:42):
We have we have we have a special place for
aliens to watch. It's actually above the stadium. I will
I will sell you the air above the stadium that
you can watch the games from.

Speaker 4 (39:52):
Right.

Speaker 7 (39:53):
That's a perfect seat for you. It's it's like the
overhead camera's on the all twenty two films. It's perfect.
It's it's absolutely perfect. And I will only charge you
in whatever bazillions of dollars you are. And like Jerry
would probably dress up like the Great Kazoo from the
Jetsams or something.

Speaker 6 (40:13):
He is just like Aaron Rodgers already did he is right, Yeah.

Speaker 7 (40:18):
That's not bad. That's the best impersonation you do by far,
actually is probably the only real one that you do.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
Oh no, no, my Brad Childress is really good. Yeah,
I do eat my Brad Childress one day.

Speaker 7 (40:30):
He's done Brad Schilders for me before. And here is
the thing, Brad Children's hasn't been a coach in the
league for a decade right now, and you're and you're
holding off holding on to Brad children just.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
Like you're holding over the Hall of Fame voter. You're
barely holding up.

Speaker 7 (40:47):
I'm well, yeah, but I'm still there. And oh, big
news coming out tomorrow. They're going to announce the twelve,
the twelve senior candidates and the twelve all contributor candidates
for that yeah, the next round.

Speaker 2 (41:05):
But you can't tell us any of them, right, So
I mean wow, So I mean.

Speaker 7 (41:08):
I'm sworn to secrecy. No you're not.

Speaker 2 (41:11):
No, you're not imported us.

Speaker 7 (41:13):
No, let me, I will read you the statement.

Speaker 2 (41:17):
This is this is in Dirty Miserable rats at this part.
If you go on that show and you get up
the part, why.

Speaker 1 (41:26):
Do we get warned because of Jason Cole don't even
know aplication of any of.

Speaker 7 (41:30):
The names is strictly embargoed until one oh five Eastern
time Thursday for entheses, Tuly twenty seven, when the Hall
makes it the announcement. That's straight from the release that
I received today. So I would never ever reveal any
of those names, or you know, even even give clues,

(41:55):
you know, like whether somebody's name rhyme with mc shane
McClanahan er something like that.

Speaker 2 (42:00):
Yeah, Shane mcclett is actually a player.

Speaker 7 (42:03):
I think, yes he is. He's a pitcher.

Speaker 2 (42:06):
Okay, Mike Shanahan going into the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 7 (42:10):
God, never it. I didn't say. I did not say
that Mike Shannon was going into the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 3 (42:15):
I did not say that.

Speaker 7 (42:17):
They're not announcing. They're not announcing who's going up. So
there we go. Maybe we're going they're announcing the twelve
people who are the semi finalists as contributors.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
Maybe for the last time as a Pro Football Hall
of Fame voter. It's Jason Cole. He's on Twitter at
Jason Call sixty two. Thanks a lot, buddy, We'll talk
to you next week later.

Speaker 6 (42:38):
Bye bye, buddy.
