(00:52):
show that you know, Mike and I are best friends
and we're close.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
But I have to do my jobs as.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
A host sometimes and sometimes it gets difficult, and I
got to ask the very difficult questions. Yeah, I mean,
you know, sometimes I got you gotta ask, and sometimes
you gotta ask with people that you work with. So
I have to start tonight, and you have to be
honest with me, because you know, where's our friendship If
we're not honest. Where were your brothers earlier today? And
are they trying to sell any sort of lawn maintenance

(01:19):
merchandise out of the back of a truck somewhere in
the Chicago area allegedly?

Speaker 4 (01:25):
That No, that would take way too much effort for
something you don't know about. One thing my brothers and
I uh pride ourselves on is we're only getting involved
with something if we're really gonna immerse ourselves. Right, If
you're gonna bet the horses, you go and do a
lot of research, You talk to people around the stables,
you do your handicapping classes, all of that stuff. I

(01:47):
don't know anything about farm farm equipment, but they still right,
and tractors and lawnmowers or whatever.

Speaker 5 (01:53):
That's not that's not it, and that's not their thing either,
So how do It's not an easy fence?

Speaker 1 (01:59):
How do you know what to hear's thing? If you
knew it was their thing, that would make them easy
to catch. But it's but if you don't know what's
their thing, it makes them unaccusable. Well, I mean, then
they've really done a good job of hiding it for
nearly half a century. It's a whole other secret life
that my brothers have been leading. On the weekends, they

(02:19):
drive out and they go find their John Deere tractor.
This is the giant lawnmowers. Can I take a turn
on that? It's like, well, you know, hey.

Speaker 6 (02:28):
Mike, do they think their tractors are sexier?

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Well?

Speaker 5 (02:32):
You know what? It is a theme song around the house,
all right.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
I mean I just want to know, you know this
is this is you know, this has harmon. This has
the family harmon written all I'm sorry, it has a
family harmon written all over.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
I mean, look, we wear suits now, yeah, yeah, but
doesn't maybe you wore suits to take the tractors.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
I mean look, just in case people.

Speaker 5 (02:51):
Don't know, no, I was gonna say, you really probably
should explain what.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Yeah, yeah, Jason's accused of army failure as steels.

Speaker 5 (03:01):
It's right off the jump. It's like, wait, what does
it mean?

Speaker 1 (03:04):
The latest in an endless week for the Chicago Bears day.
We'll get to the Bears coming up in a few minutes.
There was a burglary at Soldier field that was discovered
a few hours ago that they found stolen were ride
along Mower's and John Deere Gator utility vehicles that belonged

(03:25):
to a contractor who works with the Chicago Bears. So
all this lawn equipment that was stolen, which is you know,
right along mower's and you tee and John Deer utility
vehicles were stolen in the in an early morning or
late night situation. The protective fence line was ripped off
its foundation to get the equipment. Estimated value of the

(03:48):
theft and damage is one hundred thousand dollars. No one's
been arrested. Police are investigating. Welcome back to my friends.
So the week that never ends for the Chicago Bears.
And maybe, I mean maybe if I can help point
you this and if something has to happen and uh,
you know your brothers have to come in for questioning,
they got to come in for questioning.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
I think that's how it goes well.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
I mean, look, whenever there's a big event, right, lots
of stuff, a lot of activity uh going on, the
other part of town is going to be uh open
for business, shall we say, Right, you see a bunch
of uh It's why people keep an eye out on
the scanners. Right, if all the police units are being
called to one area of town, what happens everybody else

(04:29):
has to watch just a little closer because now there's opportunity.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
Same thing here.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
The building is burning inside outside. Yeah, you might be
able to go get some of some free stuff.

Speaker 6 (04:40):
The Harmon family.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
I could just see harm and his brothers. You know,
don't turn the tractors on. People are gonna know. And
you're riding them very silently, like pushing them down the street.

Speaker 5 (04:51):
Be very very quiet.

Speaker 6 (04:53):
Silencers on the engines.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
Well, look, this is.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
No they they just push them to try and make
sure we don't have to turn the engines on to
take them.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
Without the engine on, harm creases because they're they're silent, right,
they creep up on you really fast. You just need
a little bit bigger, bigger engine in there. Uh, and
then we we can get in under cover of night.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
So we have justin Fields doesn't want to be coached,
then says, well wait a minute, don't twist my words.
Even though he said doesn't want to be coached. The
defensive coordinator is fired. There was a raid on Hallis Hall.
Then there wasn't a raid. Peter Tillman led the raid,
then he didn't lead the raid, and now lawn equipment
was stolen from soldier field.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
This is do you think this actually happened or are
they just throwing this out here? So it's just the
level of absurdity, absurdity that you stop asking questions about
why the defensive coordinator quote resigned and why you accepted
said resignation if it legitimately had a health issue, all
of those things, or the Justin Fields, I mean he hugged,

(05:57):
he hugged everybody yesterday.

Speaker 5 (05:58):
I mean, everything's good, right.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
I can't take any more questions about Justin Field's can
we go can we can we leak that to the
press that people stole all those lawns because Harmon's either
that or you're either see here's the thing is either
your brothers I strike you, they strike me as hey,
they can go get it, or it would be like
that plot and Goodfellas where one of them's on the inside,
like one of your brother's a security guard and he
gets a job there for like a couple of months,

(06:20):
and then sets it up where one night, you know,
your other brother comes in and and it's it seems
pretty easy. But they did have to break stuff down,
so I know it wasn't an inside job. I mean,
you made it look like an inside job, and that's
what happened.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
Yeah again, if they've been living double lives, I mean,
as far as I'm aware, their jobs are at a
bank and at a commercial real estate.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Far as you're aware, that's wow.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
I mean, look, as far as you're aware, Well, if
we're gonna throw allegedly's on a bunch of stuff, I
might as well throw that caveat out there. It's not
like I've just sat and watched them work like my.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Brother works them. But every time I call, they say
he's out of the office.

Speaker 5 (06:55):
But like for me, right, there's no hiding.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
I'm yelling on the radio four hours a night behind
a microphone, either from my home or sitting next to
and throwing things at you. Right, there's no hiding. I
am what I am everybody else. Hey, man, I don't
know what your jobs are. I've had people in my
life I couldn't tell you what they did under exciting

(07:18):
security measures and other things I don't know.

Speaker 6 (07:22):
For all, was never a cop.

Speaker 5 (07:26):
Wow, that would cut me to the quick.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Maybe you never know.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
Now I have to won. I mean maybe he was
security for the Bears.

Speaker 6 (07:33):
Maybe he just dressed up like a cop.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
He was security for the Bears. Oh he got feep,
kept stealing stuff all the time.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
He got fired.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
He remever, all those game game used jerseys we had
laying around.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
What the hell do you think those games?

Speaker 4 (07:47):
How do you think we outfitted the kids with all
those Bears helmets?

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Your dad was like, who was the who was the
guy that stole? What was he seen stealing at the
super Bowl a few years ago?

Speaker 4 (07:58):
They Yeah, remember they had to go get it in Mexico.
Glazier was a big part of like, Oh, that's right,
Glazier led the sting on that. That's what I forgot
about that.

Speaker 6 (08:08):
That's right, Officer Glazier.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
It's a man of many hats.

where his parents live, in Florida and every family portraits
is just in Dicka sweaters.

Speaker 4 (08:38):
May or may not be in a popular outfit in
the fall back when we were children.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Yeah, sure, sure I can see where that with the
mustache and the and the and the sunglasses, I'm ready
for Halloween might be the outfit.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
Uh, that might be the outfit for for the end
of October.

Speaker 5 (08:56):
Here.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
It just might become a regular thing because they need
Ditka back to get back, the fire to get back.
I mean people are asking this on Twitter. Where was
Swollen Dome and all the Chicago affiliates I got friends, We'll.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
Have more on this game and maybe more in this
story if we can. If I can, Hey, if I
can break this story wide open on the show, I
will do it.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
I mean, this will be a show getting stuff done.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Hey, look at that big, big caper solved by Radio
Hoats solves caper from two thousand miles away.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
I mean I always had people that said I could
get things done for you, or I can get your stuff.
I don't remember it ever involving talks of lawnmowers or
any of that.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
The subheadline is gonna say, turns out it was Radio
Partners family members.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
I gotta click on that, I gotta read that on
to you being with the guy in the place. They
thought it would help change the narrative of the team.
Instead it just got worse.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Oh boy.

tons of NFL to get to give you all our
big picks for the week and the weekend. Coming up
a very big baseball headline. Make it not one, not two,
but three home runs all rise.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
Swing on there. It goes to right, hit us high,
hit us far heard.

Speaker 5 (10:36):
Us time this third home run of the game. It's
only the seventh inning.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
I don't know if we'll get up again. So there
it is.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
Yankees Radio Network, John Sterling on the call, Aaron Judge
in a season where the Yankees are a couple of
days away from being eliminated from playoff contention. Judge with
three home runs in the game. For Yankee ever to
have multiple three home run games in the same season.
Yankees win it tonight easy over the Diamondbacks, seven to one.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
But this underscores just the future.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Of the Yankees, and if I'm not I want to
want to paint this as bleak, but I want to
paint this as a time of change, because I've told
her from the beginning, the Yankee team you're gonna see
next year is gonna be unrecognizable from the Yankee team
that's on the field right now. Right You're you're gonna
see a new new manager who knows if Brian Cashman
is going to be able to survive. If I can
convince everybody that it's not my fault and player wise,

(11:34):
you watch what the turnover can be. I'll tell you
right now. I'll tell you right now. I guarantee that
this is if you said to me, if you put
a gun to my head and said, or if your
brother's grabbed me and we're gonna beat me up and said, hey,
you got to tell me something. If you said to me,
what what Yankees are gonna be Yankees next year. Right now,
you say this for a bunch of teams, I can
say even for the Mets. Who's gonna be on the Mets? Okay,

(11:54):
well next year, well they're not gonna trade Alonzo. They'll
have Alonzo. They're gonna have Lindor, they're gonna have Alvarez.
There go, If you said to me what Yankees could
I guarantee you will be on the opening day lineup?

Speaker 3 (12:08):
All right?

Speaker 1 (12:08):
The starting lineup of opening Day? The only position players
I can give you are Aaron Judging, Labor Torus.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
That's it. That's it.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
All the other guys are older, they are they could
wind up getting dealt they might wind up getting brought back.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
Gen Carlos Stanton. They're gonna try some way.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
I'm sure to try to get out of his contract
because he's been diminishing returns since he came to the Yankees,
and he's injured all the time. And so the only
guy I can guarantee, the only two guys guarantee you
in the Yankee lineup for opening day Labor Taurus, Aaron Judge.
That's it. Those are the only guys I can tell
you say, yes, they're gonna be there. Garritt Cole, I'm
pretty sure is gonna be there. Look, the guy's gonna

(12:44):
be Saw Young finalists this year and he's got a
big contract. So yeah, Garrick Cole, But you tell position players,
those are the only guys I can guarantee. That's how
much change the Yankees are gonna have next year.

Speaker 5 (12:53):
Well, Lemayhew's still gonna be there.

Speaker 4 (12:56):
He's still got several years on his contract and he's
making a million.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Maye anymore?

Speaker 5 (13:01):
Man, No, no, no, But what are you gonna do.

Speaker 4 (13:03):
You're just gonna say we're gonna eat sixty million dollars.
Nobody traded him to anybody. Nobody's taking that salary on you.
I'm not saying he's in the lineup every day.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
But hey, listen, Yankees, Yanke Yankees are able to trade.

Speaker 7 (13:17):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
The Mets were able to trade Verlander and and sures
Her and eat a lot of money. I'm not saying
the Yankees aren't gonna eat money in this situation, but
there's gonna be a lot of new players and I
can see them. Can you eat money to trade Lemehe yes,
you absolutely can. You can eat some of that.

Speaker 4 (13:31):
I have no doubt that there's great turnover. There has
to be right. It's the old do something even if
it's wrong. I mean, the first thing you have to
do is bring in a shaman, h a medicine man,
somebody to try to keep the stars that you're paying
a lot of money healthy, right, Aaron Judge thirty five
home runs, seventy RBI. Great, he played in a hundred games.

Speaker 5 (13:52):
Right.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
So now it's John Carlos Stanton. If he's there and
he's part of your squad, can he play every day?
You played a lot of money to bring in from
the pitching side of things, Carlos Rodin, Can he stay healthy?
Or is that just money that you're burning in a
dumpster that's floating down the river. I mean, you know,
from the position side, one of the guys you thought

(14:15):
was gonna take a slot and Dominga's had to have surgery.
When's he gonna be ready in theory pretty early in
the year in theory. But yeah, it's it's complete overhaul.
And that's how you justify keeping your job.

Speaker 5 (14:28):
If you're cash.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
Man, Hey, I need to make a lot of change
because because I mean, this is how I keep my job.
I mean, you can keep continuity, and I mean it
gonna be a lot of change around here. Something's got
to stay the same. I mean Boone's not walking through
that door again.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
I mean walking out of the door and not coming back.

Speaker 4 (14:45):
He thought it was a revolving door. No, no, no,
it locked behind him and turned into a solid wall.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Wait wait, let me back in. I forgot some stuff.
Now Otani left stuff. He's not coming back to get oil.
Just send us your phone address. We'll send it to you.
Don't worry about it.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
We have Pete feutex stop and buying about twenty minutes
all the big news in college football. And before we
get to picking a couple of NFL games, let me
just say this. You know who is the most desperate
person in college football? Mic and it oozes out of
his pores.

Speaker 4 (15:26):
Okay, Ooz is out of his pores?

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Nick Saban? How desperate?

Speaker 1 (15:34):
How desperate is Nick Saban for attention and relevancy surrounding
Alabama's program? Okay, he's watched Deon sanders Hey for the
for the last few years. The last decade, it's been
Nick Saban and Alabama. Nick Saban and Alabama.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
What happened?

Speaker 1 (15:50):
Saban's been able to be crusty with the media, say
whatever he wants, you know, be kind of a college
football version of Bill Belichick, and everybody had to bite
the bullet because he had the squads every year he
was in the College Football Playoff and the national championships
he wanted. May have peaked in twenty twenty with what
looked like it was his best team ever, even though
it was the pandemic season. But he's he's carried the

(16:11):
mail for college football for a long time, and he's
been the biggest star. And now what's happened the last
couple of years, Well, Jim Harbaugh started to get a
ton of attention because Michigan is winning, and his the
star power of him as a head coach. He makes
a lot of headlines. And now here's Deon Sanders taking
everything else away. Now there's no room for anything else
in college football because of the Colorado freight train that

(16:31):
continues to go.

Speaker 5 (16:33):
Yeah, and because people are sheep yes right, yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
So what have we seen now from Nick Saban the
last few weeks? A much more engaging Nick Saban.

Speaker 5 (16:44):
From the blind Side now, who has made.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
Bold decisions with his roster, crazy decisions with his roster,
who is now much more apt to weigh in on
big topics. Right, he's weighing in on Deon Sanders talking
about what great coaching thinks. Deon Sanders is quarterbacks. Now
he's played three quarterbacks so far. Oh, because of a
promise that he made. Hey, I told the other two
guys they would get playing time this year. So wait,

(17:08):
so you bench Milrow. Yeah, they lost a game, But
for two guys that you only because you promised them
they'd play, you bench them for a game and then
and now now you're going back.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
To Milroe again.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
I feel like he's he's one of those coaches who
now is like, huh, they're not talking about us anymore.
I need to start doing some stuff and getting out there.
I need to start doing doing and talking about some
stuff and doing some crazy things. Because this is not Bill.
This is this not Bill Belichick, this is not Nick
Saban to say, yeah, I'm gonna have a knee jerk
reaction for our court. I'm gonna take one guy out

(17:40):
after he has a bad game. Even though he did
move the team pretty well and move them pretty well
in the first game.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
I'm gonna make this change.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
I'm gonna play two, not one other guy, but two
other guys because I made a promise they would play really.
Nick Saban's that guy. I promised them they'd play really.
Nick Saban in twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen was like, Hey,
I promise these guys they play, so I get him
in the lineup.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
That's not Saban.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
Nick Saban has seeing college football moving on without him,
and he's seeing every conversation about Saban instead of being boy,
can Alabama get to the National Championship? What kind of team?
It's how long will Nick Saban go till he retires?
Will Nick Saban retire after this year? We retire after
next year? When will Nick Saban call it quits? Will
Nick Saban go back to the NFL? Will NX Saban
take a sabbatical, we retire from Alabama? That's all Saban

(18:22):
is seeing because I don't think there's any question that
or any coincidence that the only attention he's getting now
is when's he gonna retire or not talking about him?
So now you get all these Saban headlines and craziness
going on with with his team. I don't think that's
any coincidence.

Speaker 4 (18:38):
Yeah, we talk about the lack of explosiveness. We're talking
about the three card money at the quarterback position. And
I would counter only to say this in terms of
how you're you're talking about maybe desperation and following in
the path of what some see in the Belichickian part
of things, is that you're also knowing that the rules

(19:01):
of engagement have changed of trying to keep guys contented
and ready to next man up, of course as always,
but also not to be with one eye on the
transfer portal. So if you're in a game and you think, hey,
we can get guys a little bit of playing time
and get them feeling good about their space here, maybe

(19:22):
ad buys you time that you're not looking at them
exiting the system, exiting the program.

Speaker 5 (19:30):
I'm just reaching a little bit here.

Speaker 4 (19:31):
Trying to figure out exactly where you know coach's sensibilities
are because we saw so much of the older guard
the last couple of years, Jason just walk away all
together because of the rules of engagement we see, We've
seen so many others complain about it openly. You got
Harbaugh on one side, he's all for the kids getting
whatever the kids can get, very at least outwardly. You know,

(19:53):
always wonder what goes on behind the scenes with some stuff.
But you know, on Dabo Sweeney, yeah, if they start
getting paid, I'm gonna quit it. Still collected a check
every Saturday and showing up on the sideline. So somewhere
in between there, I think you've got Nick Saban trying
to recognize, all right, all the good will I got
when I was doing TV shows and movies, and I
get a little bit of love from the commercials. But

(20:15):
it's a different environment. And certainly Dion Sanders, look, he's
a unicorn. We've talked about this, right, A lot of
column inches, a lot of stuff dedicated to where can
you find your own and maybe on a on a local,
regional and conference network you might be able to find
your version of that locally. So many teams have tried, right,

(20:37):
Scott Frost, wasn't that the idea at Nebraska? He was
gonna be that guy, wasn't he? Then he couldn't coach
his way out of a paper bag, so that that
didn't get to last.

Speaker 5 (20:45):
Very long, so you know, be careful what you wish for.

Speaker 4 (20:49):
But for Nick Saban and company as they get into
this stretch, what are they touchdown favorite against Mississippi tomorrow?
Is you know you're trying to find the idea of
this squad and this shakes it up a bit. And
maybe he was just being a smartass too to a degree. Yeah,
I made the promise to these guys. What do you
want me to set attention? What do you want me

(21:10):
to say? You want me to give you a bunch
of our you know, stuff that we have in the
playbook two while I'm at it?

Speaker 1 (21:15):
I mean, really, I mean, do you think about Nick Saban?
Actually I promised the guys they would play. I made
a promise to two guys that they would get to
play quarterback this year.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
Really that strikes you as genuine?

Speaker 4 (21:26):
I mean, come on, man, Well but he kept the
promise to him, and now maybe that gets you some
good will and the recruiting wars.

Speaker 5 (21:32):
It's all about how recruiting wars going forward? Smith?

So we'll let more on Nick Saban and Colorado with
Pete Futech coming up in a few minutes. But time

(21:57):
to start taking a look at the games in the
NFL this weekend. And let's take a look at two
of the biggest ones. And this game is big because
obviously it involves the defending Super Bowl champions and a
team that owned the news cycle this week for many reasons.
It started with Justin Field saying I don't want to
be coached, and it ended with people stealing tractors from
Soldier Field earlier. Today the Bears and the Chiefs have

(22:22):
I got good news for you, Mike, and I got
bad news for you, got badness. The good news is
this is gonna be Justin Field's best game. Chicago's got
no choice but to let him go and let him
do his thing. After this week, they can't sit here
and sit back, okay, sit back in the pocket No,
they're gonna let him go. He's gonna do his thing.
It will be very freeing for him. He will put
points on the board. However, Chiefs are gonna score more.

(22:46):
The Chiefs looked like they they looked like they needed
a week to get Travis Kelce back involved. This should
be one of those get well games and they should
have no problem putting a ton of points on the
board against this Bears defense, which, wow, are you kidding me?
The first couple of weeks, if you get carved by
Baker Mayfield, you' gonna get carved by Patrick Mahomes. So
it'll be a big week for Fields and he'll get

(23:06):
you know, maybe close to one hundred yards rushing.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
He'll throw a couple of touchdowns, run for a touchdown.
But this is going to be the Chiefs thirty eight
to twenty four.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
Look at that, you are taking the over over under
sitting at forty eight. I think I can agree with
you there that we're looking for them to sail well
past this. For Fields, I have to expect it's the
all right, go back to what worked last year, and
remember that doesn't translate to wins and losses, but at
least allowed him to function at a higher rate. Now

(23:37):
trying to figure out what's real in terms of the
relationship and how do you make the best of the
acquisition of DJ Moore. That's a whole other thing, right
because you got videotape of Hey, they're not using you,
right man. It's like, yeah, I no, tell me about it. Okay, great,
that's fantastic because you needed to add that to the
mix along the way. They need to find some semblance

(23:59):
of a running game, and that comes back Johnson, I
think is the best of what they've got. But that's
more fields, just getting to the edge, let him make
plays with his leg, pick up the first down, and
then he's been efficient in the red zone problems. They
haven't gotten there very often. And he's been efficient in
throwing the ball downfield. They're not calling for many downfield routes,

(24:21):
and we've seen him hold on to the ball on
a number of occasions. And so when I look at
this one, Kansas City generally doesn't cover those large point
spreads double digit plus. This has always been one of
the things to the detriment of the Patrick Mahomes resume.
But coming up here, I think you do see fields

(24:41):
force a thrower.

Speaker 3 (24:42):
Two.

Speaker 5 (24:43):
I do think his sharks to get out of the way.

Speaker 7 (24:45):
Yeah, asking for a friend. When's the last time the
Bear scored twenty four points?

Speaker 5 (24:49):
I don't know. They give up twenty five a game
for the last I don't know year plus.

Speaker 6 (24:54):
I know that part.

Speaker 5 (24:55):
That's a good question.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (24:58):
It's been a while, it's been a minute.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
This will be a very freeing week.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
It'll be a good week for them to Hey, let
let's just let feel he wants to do it. Let
him do his thing, and it'll be the worst thing
for the parents because he'll actually, Boy, this is the
best game he's had all season.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
Eberflus, you're fired.

Speaker 6 (25:14):
But he goes back to scoring twenty four when they
can't score.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
Now, they'll score against the Chiefs defense. They'll score well.

Speaker 4 (25:20):
The last time they scored thirty in a game was
against the Lions on November thirteenth.

Speaker 3 (25:26):
That's the day Felix Hunger was forced to remove himself
from his place of residence.

Speaker 5 (25:30):
There actually done.

Speaker 6 (25:33):
Sweetness that day.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
He's still running. Maybe he's still running the man. That's
that's Gail Sayers. That's Gail Sayers.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
Scored a couple of times.

Speaker 4 (25:44):
Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna go with the thirty four
to twenty couple of long field goals, but they do
cover the twelve and a half is where it is
sitting there right now. It's gonna be ugly, right, but
you go back to some of the playground style. Just look,
let the man make plays, don't try to contain it,

(26:04):
don't over coach it can't stand in the pocket.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
By the way.

Speaker 4 (26:08):
The other story that we've mentioned a bunch I don't
think many others have is the left tackle went to
ir for the season.

Speaker 5 (26:14):
By the way, So good luck Chris Jones should feast.

Speaker 2 (26:19):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
Mike and I do it every week. We give your
upset special picks for this week in the NFL College football.
Go in NFL this week and putting my three and
one record on the line, feeling pretty good to start out,
and I'll give you my first pick, Mike Harmon, Sam
Howell is the real thing. Give me the Commanders getting
seven over the Bills when seven. When Howell gets hot,

(26:54):
sex and a half seven, six and a half seven,
and I've seen seven, so I'm gonna take seven, just
like being O Cook. Whatever the point spread is in
the USA today on Thursday. When Sam Howell gets hot,
he is dominant. You watched him last week. It happened
in the second half in an instant against the Denver Broncos.
He kind of reminds me of Carson Wentz when he

(27:16):
was good. Right, that's kind of what he's like Carson
Wentz seven years ago. Right, that's what Sam Howell looks like.
We're not talking about him enough. We will after this game.
There's gonna be a lot of big plays in this game.
There's gonna be a lot of sacks, There'll be a
lot of turnovers. You're gonna see big chunk yardage plays.
This is gonna be a big deal. But we're gonna

(27:38):
question Buffalo after this. Give me Washington.

Speaker 3 (27:41):
I don't think.

Speaker 1 (27:41):
Buffalo solved their problems with their win last week. That
was supposed to be a big win for them, and
they did. Washington's better than people think they are. Sam
Howell's a better quarterback than they think he is. There's
not enough tape on him yet to say, Okay, we
know what all of his tendencies are. Give me the commanders,
give me the seven, and I will take Sam Howells,
Am Sam Sam, Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam Sam.

Speaker 4 (28:03):
No, we liked him coming into the year. The enemy
has a lot of guys at his disposal with that offense,
and defensively, you finally got Chase young back. I'm on
the other side of that game, but we'll move that
for another time. Titans three and a half point road
dogs to the Browns. I just said the Browns. That's
all I need to say. Favorite squad Deshaun Watson Tennessee.

(28:27):
We watched him last week with the win over the Chargers,
looking for the run game to keep going, and Ryan
Tannehill played some clean football last week. Now he's got
to contend with Miles Garrett. But the Browns dealing with
some injuries in the secondary, opportunity knocks. Titans go on
the road and steal this one.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Look at you, Oh my goodness, the Titans winning that game.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
Do you know that.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
Thirty eight and a half is your over under the
only reason I hope that doesn't happen is because you know,
if it doesn't work out for Kirk Cousins.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
Ryan Tannehill's the fallback guy for the Jets.

Speaker 1 (28:59):
The games they win, the less likely we are to
get Ryan Tannell at the deadline.

Speaker 5 (29:03):
Well, that is true. You one more guy off the
chess board.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
Yeah, I mean it's one.

Speaker 1 (29:08):
Let's gout might need that guy, right, I mean to
come on, the Titans have like five quarterbacks that they
don't know if they're already good.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
You know you eventually got.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
To make that move, right, You gotta move off of
Tannehill at some point and throw those guys out there.
Let them alternate plays like they're playing for Steve Spurry
or why not nice? Uh? The other game, I will
give you not quite an upset, but they are the
dogs coming into the game.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
So it's legit.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Give me the Saints getting one and a half to
get to three and zero against the Packers. This is
not gonna be a happy home opener for Jordan Love.
By and large, Jordan Love has looked pretty good the
first couple weeks, right highest rated passer in the NFL.
Kind of a bit of a fuzzy end of a
lollipop on Sunday when the last three drives. He couldn't

(29:53):
get his team in the end zone and they wound
up losing a bit of a shocker, but this is
gonna be a different animal entirely.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
The Saints deve is really really good.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
We also on National TV how good the Saints defense is.
They're gonna end up winning this game for them. New
Orleans is now gonna be the clear favorite to win
the NFC South because of their defense. Derek Carr winning
games is gonna be really annoying, so we have to
listen to him saying, oh I just got out. Things
are so great. But the Saints are better. They will

(30:21):
win this game. Their defense will shut them down. The
Packers gonna have a tough time running the football and
they're gonna tough time throwing it.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
Give me the Saints to go to three and zero.

Speaker 4 (30:29):
Look at you, I think that'll be one of the
more fun games of the week. I'm gonna go all
the way since we won't be on air until this
one's rolling the Rams at Cincinnati. Look you got the
owner riding in golf carts with Joe Burrow. It could
be Jake Browning. It could be Jake Browning.

Speaker 5 (30:47):
Give me the.

Speaker 4 (30:47):
Rams getting two and a half on the road on
Monday night football. Right now, everybody in Ohio hates me
and that's okay, or actually, I mean that's just another
Friday night.

Speaker 6 (30:59):
Yeah, that was a long line, Mike.

Speaker 3 (31:02):
There's a big line, you see.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
It's that line of people trying to wait for one
Gonzalez's autograph today.

Speaker 3 (31:06):
Like that was pretty good line. That line that went viral.

Speaker 5 (31:09):
Thing.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
That's the line, Mike, that's the line right there.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
We have a big weekend in college football coming up.
We got top twenty five games. We have Colorado and Oregon.
Which is high noon of college football this week? Could
I say it's high noon more in sports? Nobody better
to break it all down with then college football inside
are extraordinary. Pete Futech You can fomb on Twitter at
Pete Futech. His website is college Footballnews dot com. All

(31:43):
the breakdown, analysis, picks, whatever you need, He's got it.
The owner, editor, proprietor of Collegeablenews dot com himself, Pete.
What's happening, buddy?

Speaker 8 (31:52):
How are you what's going on? How are you guys tonight.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
Buddy, We're like you, we're just counting down. We're counting
down to Colorado Oregon. Man, We're just counting this game
because the entire world is going to watch it tomorrow night.

Speaker 8 (32:04):
And and not just that, but you know, if you,
if you were to happen to by some chance, and
why would you forget that it's happening. Just give it
four seconds and you're going to get an alert on
your phone that Deon just made a sandwich or something,
you know, like not sure, I mean seriously, like every
little move because I guess this is cash cow for

(32:26):
everyone right now because.

Speaker 9 (32:27):
Everyone's into this, everyone's into.

Speaker 8 (32:29):
Colorado, and I, as a pure fan, I don't think
it's happening. But just to see the national and worldwide meltdown.
If next week four and oh Colorado is hosting USC
and Caleb Williams and that bunch, that would be a thing.
But let's see, I am not a believer. Coach Fran

(32:50):
can help me.

Speaker 9 (32:51):
I do not believe this week.

Speaker 3 (32:53):
You know. Yeah, here's here's.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
What I believe a lot to tell you because I
want to get your thought on this, because here's what
I believe. I believe they'll cover all right, I'm twenty one.
Is a lot of points in this game, especially seeing
Colorado's offense, but mainly it's because I know what Dion's
been doing all week. Do you see nobody's believers we're
three touchdown underdogs of this team. Nobody believes we can win.
Do you see people saying that the balloon's gonna burst.

(33:17):
I went to ESPN today and I saw on ESPN
dot com it's gonna end for us. He's been able
to He's gonna have another week of being able to
take nobody believes in us.

Speaker 3 (33:26):
Circle the wagons.

Speaker 1 (33:27):
Let's go out and let's and let's lay waste to everybody,
which is exactly what he wanted to do, and he
gets to do it again this week.

Speaker 8 (33:34):
I usually hate that kind of stuff because look, that's
all cute and all, but come out and block and
tackle and you know, just execute better and know what
you're doing. That that works better. But in this case, yeah, look,
I mean, obviously they play at a different level when
they feel agreed. And for all the manufactured as as

(33:54):
Dean say, bull junk that came with the stuff with
the sunglasses and the hat. They knew they were supposed
to beat Colorado State. It's Colorado State's bad at football,
and they just didn't seem like they had the same edge.
We have game days in town, the rocks there, it's
a show. Now they're the party this time around. You're right,

(34:16):
they can do the No one believes in us because
everyone's got the exact same thought, like this is fun
and they might cover the offense will be cute and off,
but nah, it's not gonna happen. But the more interesting
one is the seventy point total there because it's hard
to get there, and that's going to be a I
always advise everyone, if you're giving seventy, go under it

(34:38):
because it's really hard. But in this case, we're all
hoping against the seventy.

Speaker 4 (34:44):
Yeah, I mean all that requires us is, you know,
we start playing in the thirties.

Speaker 5 (34:48):
Yeah, I think we can get there.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
But I got to ask you this question, just in
the hypothetical world that Colorado does pull off the stunner,
where do the Sikaphans line up, because I mean at
USC on the other side, man.

Speaker 8 (35:01):
Oh wow, I mean it is. You can't say anything
bad about this program.

Speaker 9 (35:06):
It is that.

Speaker 8 (35:08):
It is impressive just how much sucking up there has
been to Dion Sanders and this whole thing. Everyone realizes
what this is. It's a it's a different storyline. It
goes against everything college football usually is about. And it's fun.
But what's gonna be interesting is what happens if this

(35:29):
ghost out. What happens if it's fifty eight to ten
the other way? What happens when you know, look, this
defense is bad. It's all of a sudden. Colorado State,
who got lit up by Washington State, that team looked
like it could have gone out and hung thirty five
on the San Francisco forty nine ers last week. Oregon
is just going to come out and just do what

(35:51):
it does. It's just a question whether or not that
defense can keep a shoot or in company under.

Speaker 9 (35:57):
You know, they're gonna have to.

Speaker 8 (35:58):
They have to get off that but for the least
forty five to have a shot in this So it's
it's gonna have to be an offensive show for this
thing to work.

Speaker 1 (36:07):
You know, we talked about it earlier this week. Pete,
I kind of see Colorado. They're very similar to Ronda
Rowsey when she first came out she hit it so big,
so fast, and became the topic of conversation across the world,
and she had to keep winning because once she lost,
it was okay. The balloon burst and she's not with it.
And look at Ronda Rowsey's career, like she moved on

(36:28):
and she was never the same In UFC, I kind
of feel that to deal with Colorado, they're gonna be
like this until they lose, and especially because it's college football,
once you lose a game, we lose a lot of
interest because hey, you're you're one step away from not
being a playoff team.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
So I kind of feel like Colorado they have.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
To keep winning because the minute they lose, that's when
the bubble burst. It's okay, And now we're kind of
back to the college football season already in progress.

Speaker 8 (36:51):
Oh well, yeah, it'll just it'll calm down.

Speaker 1 (36:54):
A little bit.

Speaker 9 (36:54):
There's gonna be a moment a few weeks from now
when we're like, hey, remember when we had all that
Colorado stuff, So that'll be uh, that'll be one side
of this whole thing.

Speaker 8 (37:04):
But still, if they lose and they're entertaining about it,
they'll still be a factor because the pack cup every
single week, It's still going to be a show. They're
still going to put on a big numbers. Dean's still
going to be entertaining. It's still going to be a blast.
So I do think that this will settle down a
little bit, the fever will break, but it's still going
to be a fun ride for a little while.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
Get in as low as fifty bucks plus fees if
you want to go to that one. By way of contrast,
you on a head to South Bend, your ticket's costing
you at least six hundred and eighty three dollars plus
all requisite fees. As Ohio State comes in as a
three or three and a half point favorite against Sam
Sam Sam Hartman and Notre Dame.

Speaker 1 (37:44):
My Heisman Trump, You're got Sam Hartman, my pick, Sam Hartman,
my preseason pick.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
Sam Hartman.

Speaker 8 (37:51):
You can win it here. You know, like Shador, if
Shador goes off and they beat Oregon, and if Shador
goes off and they beat USC, he probably here's the
problem Shodo or Sanders, even if he's awesome, there is
such this I hate to use this kind of term,
but silent backlash out there that that just that just

(38:12):
the whole thing rubs certain people the wrong way. So
I'm not gonna say the Heisman's his. But outside of that, yeah,
Sam Hartman goes off and rips up Ohio State with
everyone watching. He's gonna have one more game and that's
against Caleb and USC and that becomes the Heisman Steeler
for him because those are the two big ones. Those

(38:34):
are the games everyone's gonna watch, and that's the big
chance for him. It's just a question of whether or
not Ohio State's defense can get a little bit of
pressure on him. I'm every time this year I've thought that,
oh well, talent's gonna win out, Like, you know, LSU
is gonna be Florida State, of course, you know South Carolina.
You know North Carolina does have a defense. South Carolina's
gonna roll for them. Nope, you know Clemson Duke. Even so,

(38:58):
I'm not gonna just say oh State's just gonna win
because they're Ohio State. But they shouldn't be better on
all on both sides of the ball. They've got just
that much more talent offensively. The defense is all right,
it is actually all right great so far it hasn't
faced anybody like this yet, though I think Ohio State

(39:19):
goes in there and makes a little bit of a statement.

Speaker 1 (39:22):
Pete Futech, college football Insider, our guest here The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Harman, Live from the tiraq dot
Com studios. All right, so Nick Saban, I guess he's
been a little bit upset that no one's paying attention
to him. So I'm changing quarterbacks. I'm talking a lot
to the media. They have a tough one tomorrow against
all Miss. Does does Alabama get eliminated from playoff contention

(39:43):
tomorrow or do they stay alive another week and beat
the fifteenth rankle Miss.

Speaker 8 (39:47):
Oh wow, you want to talk about the flips the
opposite side of Colorado if they lose it, If Alen
loses this already, I've been on shows across this great
country of ours. Well, Nick sab legacy going to be like,
what are you talking about? Everyone Like, like, all that's
happening is is now. Alabama's starting to realize what life

(40:11):
is like for everyone else where in the SEC under
Alabama's authoritarian rule. They if you're attendant too, you might
as well be six and six. It just doesn't matter.
It's because you can be great, and it makes no
difference if Alabama's being Alabama and now Alabama's figure out
what life is like when they're really awesome. It's ten
and two, which will change next year when they have

(40:32):
the expand football playoffs, But for now, I think that
that's the game that I don't want anything to do with.
Spread Wise, I think Bama wins just because, but I
think they figure out that, you know what, let's not
make this a complicated We don't quit trying to make
Jalen Milroe into Bryce Young and Mac Jones already. Just

(40:53):
realize that he's not quite there as a passer yet
if you can get there at all, because that's an
elite level of passing skill. But he's a really talented
quarterback and playmaker who can get you know, creative. He
can do a whole lot of things for you if
you use him, and that's the right way, and not
assume that he's just gonna be able to wing it
around like Bryce did. But Bryce couldn't run like Noro did,

(41:16):
so you can do more things with him in that way.
So if they don't get too funky and just look,
just keep running the ball, get physical, I think they
can pull this off.

Speaker 4 (41:25):
How excited are you for Jim Harbaught return to the sidelines?

Speaker 9 (41:28):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (41:29):
Who is it?

Speaker 8 (41:30):
You know, how has that not been?

Speaker 9 (41:32):
We'll see, you know what, though, I will be curious.

Speaker 8 (41:35):
To see if there is a difference, because this they
had a true preseason where they just sort of stretch
their legs, you know, they check to make sure the
lights worked and the faucets were running and everything was good,
and they just go, Okay, let's go on. We're gonna
win thirty eight to three, and we'll move on. Let's
see if now they start to kind of open it

(41:55):
up a little bit more and start to show, Okay,
now it's big ten times, it's Rutgers actually pretty good.
We all forget that they're three and zho right in
the thick of the college football playoff tase. And now
let's see if Michigan just starts to say, let's just
everyone else is kind of stunk it up so far.
Let's show what we can do that we aren't just

(42:15):
a college football playoff contender, that we have the firepower
with all the talent and experience that they have to
absolutely come out and just obliterated team that's actually played
pretty well.

Speaker 3 (42:26):
All right, Pete complete the sentence for me.

Speaker 5 (42:29):
Here.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
We have a lot of other games in the top
twenty five involving top twenty five teams.

Speaker 3 (42:33):
UCLA playing Utah as well.

Speaker 1 (42:34):
That's going to be a big one. Oregon State Washington
State for the pride of the pack too. The upsets
that you wouldn't be surprised to see tomorrow the top
twenty five are what woo.

Speaker 8 (42:47):
In the top twenty five, I guess this is kind
of it's not really counts, but Washington State. I mean
it's only like, what a three point underdog, but it's
at home. I mean, it's not really going out on
a giant limb here. But I think Oregon State's you know,
it's solid, it's good. Everyone kind of lost sight that
Washington State beat Wisconsin. They blew up that Colorado State team.

(43:11):
This is a rock solid, sound team that I think
is going to start to get more and more attention
as we go on. Excuse me, I would not be
entirely shocked if u CLA went in and took out
Utahmmy Utah is amazing at home. There's some crazy set
that I think. It's like the USC game of last
year was the only time. Since twenty eighteen, they haven't

(43:34):
won a home game by more than five points spread. People,
but USC is physical. UCLA is physical. They've got just
enough where they might be able to give the youths
a little bit of a problem tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (43:47):
All right, Pete, Last one, since you're there in Illinois.
As you walk in the streets, have you seen any
flaming dumpsters roll by with either a Northwestern or a
Chicago Bears logo on them?

Speaker 8 (43:58):
Wow? I'm not joking everybody who all my friends, my
