Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy Wednesday, The Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon, live from the Tirak dot
Com Studios tirec dot com.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
I'll hope you get there.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection
at over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirac dot com is
the way tire buying should be. Well, we have a
lot of Olympics to get to. We have a lot
of football to get to. But Buddy, I did some
math today, and I know you don't like it when
(01:02):
I do math.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
I do math usually a dangerous position.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
The only person who does math worse than me is
carme on the bear.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Okay, I did math today.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Buddy, because I started saying to myself when you lost
your seventeenth straight today, I think this is what the
fourth seventeen loss game losing streak you guys have had
this year seems like it. Okay, So the White Sox
now with their seventeenth straight loss worst record in baseball
not even close. You guys are twenty seven and eighty four.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
I wanted to see what you had to do over
the last fifty one games to avoid being the worst
team of all time. I mean, obviously the Cleveland Spiders,
but they disbanded. They could have gone on a twenty
game win streak to end of the season. So we
can't count them to be able to pass the sixty
two Mets.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Okay, to pass the sixty two Mets. Goo boy? What
do they have to do?
Speaker 1 (01:53):
What do they have to do to them to really
in the last fifty one games, you have to go
fourteen and thirty seven. You are playing right now at
a two forty three winning percentage. That would be a
two seventy winning percentage. You have to kick it up
a big notch to get from a winning percentage of
(02:14):
two forty two seventy in the last two months of
the season. You have fifty one games left to not
be viewed as the worst baseball team.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Of all time.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
You know what the great thing is what you check
my math and it's right tomorrow. No, yeah, no, I'm
not doing the percentages because it's a waste of my
time and as a matter of fact, that entire minute
that you just spent in whatever time during the course
of your day doing the calculations.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
You should have.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Just let it, let it go, buddy, should Buddy, I
don't like chocolate, and but don with it because right
now the White Sox. As much as I love my
beleaguered teams, I do it so you don't have to. Right,
it's an extension of the Mets, like you know, you
like to have that dialogue. I'll just absorb it, you know,
like all of the energy that you could possibly foist
(03:07):
upon me. Uh, because nobody needs that kind of negativity
in their lives, nobody.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
I'm just saying, anything worth doing is worth doing, right.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
And if you go down and Griffall had said, it's like, hey,
you know, look look at what we have an opportunity
to do.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
But I'm saying, buddy, you are you are not only
on pace to be the worst team of all time
if you don't pick it up in the last two months. Now, granted,
there is the last month of the year when teams
who are out of it. You'll have some series against
teams that are done and they're playing young players and
well and then.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
A few of those because I mean us and like
four other teams. Uh yeah, well, but after Marlin's on
the schedule that late, See.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
How many times do we get to play the Marlins?
Speaker 4 (03:53):
Everybody plays everybody, so you know, and look their final roster.
I mean, I think they have a cumulative salary of
like fourteen point three million dollars.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Of what's he left done here? Let me ask you this.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
You're talking about September call ups and you're trying to
be mister Ray of Sunshine.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Let me ask you, this is the guy with the
broken leg that they traded for. Is he gonna be ready? No,
he's not gonna be ready.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
No, and hey and listen, hey Crochet, he's not gonna
have to worry about pitching in October. So we closed
that door yesterday.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
That door. That door is show. Oh yeah, I know,
absolutely got that got there. Yeah, no question.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
I mean look, that whole debacle also expose the ineptitude
of Gets and what they're working with. The absolute clown
show that Jerry Ryan's Dorf is running. And I know
there were a lot of memes about his age and
and father time and all that stuff.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
He's eighty eight. We've got medical marvels.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
We have no idea how this this franchise moves forward
in the case that something does transpire. So people looking
for some quick, easy fixes, you know, and.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
The help from the Good Lord Almighty. I mean, just
don't wait for it. Go figure out, you know, whether
you like this Bears team or not. Go find somebody
else to cheat. No, buddy, we got plenty of time
for that. This is we are watching what could be
an all time worst baseball team of all time.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
We're the only ones watching it, you and I. The
rest of the world is given up on base Oh no, listen, listen, hey,
oh no, no, No one's watching your team play. But
they're all looking at the games every night going on
a White Sox lost again, they lost again.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
They're checking it out.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
When the White Sox or anybody from the Al Central's
any good, I don't know, they might be okay, but
I guess we have to comment on them now. They
put it in the B block, so let's go. Oh man,
I'll tell you.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Know, it's a miserable experience of these games.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
And and look, I watch it on mute because Stone's
only going to go so far with his criticism.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
The you guy is just over his head.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
This is not a season to bring someone in as
a new guy who's all sunshine and rainbows because he
has no idea the history and the torment that people
have gone through. He can't relate, he can't empathize, he
can't possibly for nine innings make you feel like you're
having a beer with him and just watching it in unison. No,
(06:19):
he's still over a happy land because he's still happy
that he just got the job.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
So he doesn't count.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
So yeah, it's a lot of text messages with my brothers.
I can't possibly even read those on air. Math's how
salty they get and doing math, that's what it's been.
That's still larger point. Yeah, that's what I'm been reduced to.
You're on the final day of July, this the forty
fourth birthday of Potter, that you have been reduced to
doing math.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Yeah, that's where you're at. That's how bad. This is
your biggest look in the mirror moment. You made Jason
do math. I hate to do math.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
Either would have would make them worse than than your
nineteen sixty two Yeah, entree into the league Mets.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Yeah, you'd wipe the Mets right off the face of
the air. Not the worst team anymore. And maybe we're
a team that had no players going into the Martilus
Mark you actually had players.
Speaker 4 (07:10):
Yeah, you've been trading on that for what sixty two years? Man?
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Yeah, but you guys have been playing baseball for one
hundred sum Man, that's really bad.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Oh, it's an absolute disaster. I mean, I don't know
how many said a word. I can't stay on radio.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
I don't know how many more Matt Holliday's kids are
gonna come up that could maybe help you.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
I mean there's not a lot of them. Man, I
went more of you that home run today.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
Yeah, and then the father and son that they met
with him, and you know, he couldn't contain himself.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
He had to say, hey, thanks for making this easy.
I don't know, I think I might have been a
little more.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
I would have held out for more than just a
bat because I don't know sure what the bat he
hit it with. But that's okay, but it's yeah, I
don't I don't know if we're gonna be saved by
a holiday holiday holiday. I think that's really the only
thing that will is that maybe they can get something
from Sannah under the old tree that that rectifies stuff.
(08:08):
A lot of wishing and hoping, hopefully you weren't on
the naughty list.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
Meanwhile, while Mike Harbon's White Sox are now officially becoming
front page news.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
We're in August. I talk.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
I was in a really good mood. I'm sitting I'm
having a nice cup of coffee. I had a good
day with the kids. We had a few laughs. We
planned a couple of things for later on in the fall,
looking at the calendar. And then I come in and
you start doing math.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
That's how it goes, man, That's how it goes when
I do maths.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
You know you're right, best friend, and listen. Oh wait, wait,
wait now, let me let me just say this first.
I'm not actually doing the math. I'm on the computer
going to a website where I plug in the numbers
and it does the math for me.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
I'm not doing long division. Would I do that? No,
at no point that I have not to leet that
was the case.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
Let's let's make sure we stipulate to that that you're
actually doing the if nothing else, maybe you have you
had offloaded that to your daughter and forced her to
do it. You know, Hey, you've taken most of the
summer off. I need you to practice a little math
for me.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
There you go, I need something right here, Go ahead,
get sharp, figure out.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Yeah, tell mister Harmon how terrible his team truly is.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Let's go Meanwhile, I may be and I heard that.
I may wind up. Man, you may hear me. Take away?
I heard you last night? Are you the real coach
of Team USA men's basketball? Because I told you last
night Jason Tatum was going to play today and the
guy with the DNP was going to be Joel Embiid.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
Well, we talked about the having played South Sudan and
that up and down style of play not exactly what
Joel Embiid does at this.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
Point, And I told you what was going to happen.
I told you going to be Joel Embiid. It was
trending that way. He only had eleven minutes. He has
not been good. He doesn't look healthy, he doesn't look
like his style fits a all of the things. You
have heard many people say he was going to be
the DNP, and you know what, he's going to wind
up being another DNP because you watch how Bam out
of Bio and Anthony Davis played today. Is the Bigs
(10:10):
against South Sudan. They wind up winning in somewhat of
a blowout. They didn't cover the twenty nine points spread.
But this is the team going forward, and I think
Steve Kerr has figured out. Okay, it took me a
couple of games in and then beats the DNPC and
he already.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
Promised him he's going to play against Puerto Rico. Okay,
let's see, let's see.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Let's hey, hey, hey.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
Steve Kerr, you promised, you said it in front of
a microphone. By the way, Jason Tatum was not good. No,
but we told you he was going to play. Tatum
played and that's terrible too.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
Yeah, that's at all.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
It's a very ugly, sloppy United States like even with
the margin of victory, right, like you said, nowhere close
to covering that twenty nine or twenty nine and a
half points, but actually started at thirty one and a half,
so perhaps you at least got a couple of points,
so you felt even worse about things.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
But yeah, it was not a clean game by any means.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
No, this was a game where it looked like they
were going to blow them out. Right, we said this
is what we said last night, Kase you missed it,
They're gonna blow South Sudan out. This is one of
those rare cases where a team can say, you know what,
we're mad, right, we took South Sudan lightly. We're still
getting used to the international way things are done. Other
teams are better all this blah blah blah. We're gonna
(11:25):
blow them out. Ad is going to start because he
deserves it. Joel Embiid's gonna get the DNPCD because you can.
If you're Steve Kerr, you can say, well, Joel, you
didn't look healthy and you've also had not been very
good and he doesn't let and Joel Embiid has not
been a guy carrying himself with a hey, we just
want to win the gold medal.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
I don't care.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
He seems to be a little bit distracted and indifferent
press conference, so this was the time for Steve Kurr
to say, Okay, you're gonna get the DNP today because
I can say this and it's not something you completely
lose face on because hey, look you have him playing well.
But also maybe this motive two to really pick it up,
because maybe we need you.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Over the course of the rest of this tournament.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
Right, you saw Ad had the injury scare, but then
he was able to come back into the game. But
we told you, look, Joel Embiid, he just hasn't worked.
Right from the very beginning. He hasn't worked, and Steve
Kerr gave him every opportunity to get back into this
and to say, hey, be our guy.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
But with all of this being said, my big point
I want to.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Make on this is that I really think we are
creating drama that really doesn't exist anywhere else. But the
fact that we're creating it well does end the media maybe,
but not to be usually there's teeth in a lot
of things. Jason Tatum and Tyre's Halliburton didn't play in
Game one. I don't think that was that big a deal.
(12:44):
Was it a big deal for Jason Tatum?
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Did he like not playing? No, Steve Kerr talked to him.
He started, well, there's no contentus quoted.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
Yeah, yeah, you know it was humbling, Yeah, because he
listed off his uh run of.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Accomplishments in doing that too. But let me do the
humble breag first.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Know what, I'm a champion, I got a big contract,
I got all this, So I gotta say it was
a bit humbling coming off winning the title and not
the correct NBA finals MVP.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Let me tell you is that there's no controversy. No
one is upset, no one is grumbling, and Beat is
the one guy who just seems a little bit I'm
done with all of this, right, that's but that's nothing
for Team USA, none of it. There's no controversy. All
this is going because all it is for Team USA
and basketball is that just every year we come to
(13:29):
the Olympics, it gets a little bit harder to win
the gold medal because all the things you've heard the
last few years have been true. Yes, the other countries
are getting better, and what we focused on a lot
on the show here the last couple weeks is that
the FOBA rules are so different and players are either
unwilling or unable to change enough you still see them
getting lost on defense, right, you still see them making
(13:50):
too many mistakes.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
The best players in the world make many times.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
They have a couple of possessions where it looks like
it's an All Star game, just gonna come down and
shoot it from thirty five feet?
Speaker 3 (13:58):
Why why not? Because I do that an All Star game. Cornery,
he's there, he's not.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
And in the All Star Game, it doesn't matter because
there's a million possessions.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
It's it's just every four years it's going to be
a little bit harder. But there's nothing from this team
that tells me we're going to lose, right, I mean,
there's nothing from this team to tell we're gonna wind
up losing. When it's all said and done, Lebron is
playing at a high level. KD is playing at a
high level. Bam Otabaiyo maybe the best big in the
entire tournament right now. I mean, it's just gets a
(14:27):
little bit more difficult. So let's create. So it's it's
let's create drama where this Jason Tatum thing was blown up, like,
oh my god, Jason Tatum didn't play like I don't
think this is that big of a deal, and Steve
Kerr overcorrected today by starting him. Okay, you didn't really
need to do that. But I think Steve Kerr is, Okay,
I want this to go away and let's play basketball.
I think that's why he started him, just to say
(14:48):
I don't want this to be hanging over us the team.
I'm gonna start Tatum right away and then we can
move on. But that's really what it is. I don't
think this is that biggest I don't think there's that
biggest story with Team USA. I don't think it's that
big story other than oh my goodness, look at Jason
Tatum not playing.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
Yeah, and now it's Joel Embiid. Oh, look at Joel
Embiid not play.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
Yeah, it's gonna happen, and the United States is gonna
win the gold medal in basketball. Like I think we're
just this was something where hey, I can't come up
with anything compelling, So let's go absolutely crazy with the
Jason Tatum angle this because they're gonna wind up winning
and well, they're not gonna be teams by fifty, So
what do I say? Let's blow this up? This, this
(15:27):
Tatum and bead stuff is really overblown.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
I'm telling you, well, it's still a comfortable ish win, right,
it's not the blowout and complete obliteration. So anybody that
wants to, you know, fight back on the best this
is the best team ever assembled narrative, right, because they
kept trying to diminish the ninety two squad and pull
up like, look at these guys, look at the who
they're playing against and all that stuff. Then you know
(15:52):
you gave them some ammunition. So I mean, it's good
for sports talk radio and sports television, don't get me wrong,
as well as all the little micro decisions and the
sloppiness because in the end it's still a fairly comfortable
double digit win. Does it have the same style points,
not at all. And so all the little things you
(16:13):
get to blow up because I got to imagine to
a man, yeah, the egos or bruise the embiid thing
if nothing else. Everybody takes a victory laugh of the
media to say, see, I told you it wasn't working.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
He had to sit out.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
No, I don't know that anybody was so bold as to,
you know, do the d NP as we got to yesterday.
I didn't think he'd be a full DNP, but certainly
the Davis in for him makes Berth sense. And really,
you know, the cacophony of voices would have been able
to say, hey, we.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
All get to take a victory lap.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
Let's go ring around here, let's go as if we're
playing some of the old childhood games. But for Team
USA in the end, if they win it all, I mean,
how much criticism can you the levy against everybody?
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Right again, if they hope it's opens yes, if they lose,
its open season. But if they win, it's well, what
which should have been better? What is this sudden Alabama football?
I know we were twelve and oh but you know
a couple of guys you only one fight exactly.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
I mean, that's exactly what it what it is right now?
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Yeah right, I mean we're making were making only watch
like two or three minutes, looked at the final score,
looked at a couple of things in the box score
and just went wow, what a terrible effort.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
It's like, all right, it's it's not going to be
a clean sheet again. They haven't played together a ton.
You're doing hockey line changes rules. I mean, unsportsmanlike is
the four letter word of this tournament. Because we saw
that rear its head again, which is why Joe l
embiid better be ready because you never know when one
(17:49):
of those calls are coming from the referees that have
been assembled in France exit.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
How about a Fresca exit?
Speaker 1 (17:56):

Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon, live from the Tyraq dot com studios.
We're the big Olympic highlight of the day of the
United States. Not as much trouble this time with South Sudan.
They wind up winning, don't cover the twenty nine and
a half points spread. What as we see, once again,
(19:38):
the story is going to be about who does and
doesn't play. We got Jason Tatum, we got Joelle Embiid.
How big a deal is this? Joining us now on
the hot line to break it all down?
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Nobody better?
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Longtime NBA inside or friend of the show, Mark Stein.
You can follow on Twitter at the Steinline that is
at the Steinline, Mark, happy summer man, How you doing?
Speaker 6 (20:00):
Jim all Good? All good?
Speaker 7 (20:05):
Who's playing and not playing? Is not the story of
the day for me, you know, I think it's that
is completely the wrong direction to go. But hey, you
guys are my friends. I'm a friend of the show.
If that's what you want to ask me about fire Away.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
Oh well, here's the thing is, we talked about it
earlier that this seems to be something that is more
made up in a and a story because it's it's
it's just weird to try to find the drama, Like,
I don't see this being something that the team is
affected by. I think Steve Kurr is doing a really
good job tamping this down. And hey, they're they're gonna
win the gold medal. It just gets to be a
(20:41):
little bit tougher. Uh, you know, every every year, every Olympics.
But when that happens, it's okay, let let's blow up
the fact that Jason Tatum doesn't play. Okay, I mean
that's it, but I can't control a people feel when
they see guys like Tatum and MB not playing.
Speaker 6 (20:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (20:55):
No, look, there's obviously some people are going to gravitate
to that.
Speaker 6 (20:59):
I get it.
Speaker 7 (20:59):
It's an easy headline. It can get people riled up whatever.
But you know, I I think you guys know I
love my international basketball. I've gone to the Olympics three times.
I did three World Cups as well, and I love
of bringing the international game.
Speaker 6 (21:17):
And I have to say the team is gelling compared.
Speaker 7 (21:23):
To what how things look in the five exhibition games
with no Durant, And just how much more this looks
like a team get two games into the Olympics. It's
a staggering difference, and it's you know, look, Kevin Durant's
return is obviously a huge part of that, because you're
bringing Durant off the bench now, and that second unit
(21:43):
has just been lethal.
Speaker 6 (21:45):
I mean they scored in the.
Speaker 7 (21:46):
Sixties today off the bench. South Sudan getting fourteen off
their bench. Obviously South Sudan as a good thing going
with its starters, but it's not being able to come
anywhere close to matching the US depths.
Speaker 6 (21:59):
But I really see a team that.
Speaker 7 (22:01):
Is buying in right now and when they function like that,
when everyone is putting teams first, and also when they defend,
when the United States defends like this, and just with
the kind of defenders they're bringing in the games. When
they come at you with an out of bio, a
(22:22):
Drew Holiday, a Derek White, I mean they when they
defend and turn it up at that end, nobody's going
to compete with them. And the reality is the United
States just has had a roster like this in a
long long time. Twenty nineteen, at the World Cup in China,
(22:43):
I was there. They finished seventh nowhere, not even in
the same zip code roster wise compared to what they
have now. And even the last Olympics in Tokyo, the
roster wasn't as strong as this one is. And this
roster is just star Layden, and I do agree with
what you said. I think Steve Kerr has everyone buying
in putting the team first, and when they play with
(23:07):
this kind of attitude, there's.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
Nobody in the field.
Speaker 7 (23:10):
Even with all the advances that we've seen in the
international game. I promise you the other strong teams in
this tournament, your Canada's, your Serbia's, your Francis, your Germany.
They did not want to see this.
Speaker 6 (23:23):
This early from the United States.
Speaker 7 (23:26):
But I think that South Sudan, that first South Sudan
game was a wake up call. They did bring it
at all defensively in that game and that exhibition in
London they almost got beat. They probably should have taken
an l South Sudan had multiple chances of the buzzer
to win that game, and they've responded really, really.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
Well to that mark.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
How do you feel about the officiating related to unsportsmanlike
plays owing to Anthony Davis today and then the ejection
of Ruy Hachimura that had both Smith and I scratch
in our heads.
Speaker 7 (24:00):
Yeah, the stuff in that France Japan game that belongs
in its own category. And really you have to feel
for Japan, which has all of one NBA player in
Hatcha Muraw who played great in that game, and first
he gets ejected onto two of those unsportsmanlike fouls that
(24:22):
you know both were debatable, and then the contact on
the four point play that for overtime also we will
politely say very just debatable. And look, France has not
been right for weeks. They are the hosts. They were
last seen in the gold medal game in Tokyo. Remember
(24:46):
in Tokyo they beat the United States in the Olympic opener.
They lost the gold medal game narrowly. At that twenty
nineteen World Cup. I've already mentioned, France knocks the United
States on the metal round in that competition. In the
quarter finals, the French are playing at home and have
victor we mignam. You know, they are expected to at
least medals and they have just looked. They lost four
(25:09):
straight exhibition games before the Olympics got started. They very
easily could have lost to Japan, which is one of
the weakest teams in the twelve team field. So they
are a mess. And you know, I you know, it's
you know, for our purposes. Obviously, we are laser focused
on the United States first, second, third, fourth, and fifth.
(25:31):
But if you are an international hoop head to see
brands in this state still I am grasping for an explanation,
I don't have one.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
Well, here's the thing, Marc, is I'm the other way
because I'm not worried because seeing how these games are
being officiated, right, seeing Hatchamura get thrown out, seeing a
d get that ridiculous flagrant. Today, by the time we
get to the gold medal game, France is going to
be the only players with anybody eligible, So they're just
going to walk right up to the podium and get
get the gold medals.
Speaker 6 (26:03):
I wouldn't go that far. Nothing, nothing, nothing, I'm going
to take.
Speaker 7 (26:08):
I'm going to make the not so bold prediction that
nothing is going to stop the United States as long
as they continue to defend the way they are and
move the ball the way they are, and when you
have so many guys putting team first. I mean, I
don't know that Embiid was super thrilled about not playing tonight.
Earlier today obviously our time. I'm sure Tatum is still
(26:31):
kind of processing and getting passed not playing in the
first game. But you know, look, I know what it's
like for these coaches. You know, like you think Steve
Kerr face pressure coaching the Warriors who.
Speaker 6 (26:44):
Made five s great trips to the finals.
Speaker 7 (26:46):
If you think expectations were I then I mean there
is no I mean, you are not allowed to lose ever.
Speaker 6 (26:54):
No, I mean you go inter that everyone who's going
to that team knows what you are signing up for.
You are not ever allowed to lose.
Speaker 7 (27:02):
If you do, it's an absolute international incident. And so
when you're the coach, you just want to get to
win any way you can. And you know, Steve curR
will deal with us talking about who's not playing all day.
Speaker 6 (27:16):
Long if they keep winning.
Speaker 7 (27:18):
His job is to just get this team to the
finish line by any means necessary.
Speaker 4 (27:23):
I chuckle watching watching the play, though, I don't think
other than fighting with Twitter trolls, I've seen Kevin Durant
is happy in his entire NBA career.
Speaker 7 (27:33):
He's a fantastic international player. I mean, he just there's
no one, you know, he's shooting over everybody. I mean,
he's is his fourth Olympics. He's done it so many times,
and it truly is remarkable to his ability to just
shake off Russ and I mean the guy hadn't played
for three months, and just how he looks in these
(27:56):
first two games. Don't think he missed a three yet.
It's just the guy is he is as close to
automatic as it gets. I mean, and watching him and
just watching him shoot a basketball, it's a you know,
I tweeted it during the opener, there are not many
things prettier than just watching Kevin Durant shoot a basketball.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
Mark nine with us here Fox Sports Radio. All right,
so going forward.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
Uh, you know, we're going to obviously see this team
as you said, continue to gel. There's going to be
a couple of players who log the d npcds. How
do you see it going as as far as you know,
playing time, some players that might lose some time going forward,
because I have a hard time believe in even if
Steph shoots one for nine, he's gonna sit Steph.
Speaker 6 (28:37):
But you never know, No, yeah, what you think so either.
Speaker 7 (28:42):
But look, I mean the international game, it is an adjustment.
It's a lot more physical, and you know, the United
States is trying to move the ball around a lot,
and it's not The offense is not going to be
designed like it is for Stephen Curry in Golden State,
where everything revolved around planet step It's just not going
to be like that. But it's like, you know, you
(29:02):
know that's another but you know, I've heard that conversation
day two, Oh my god, got one for nine crisis,
Like people are just grasping for anything that we concern
into a crisis here. I mean, is anybody going to
be surprised if Steph makes six threes in the next game?
Speaker 6 (29:16):
It's Puerto Rico. No, You're not going to be surprised.
Speaker 7 (29:19):
I mean, this team just has a lot of weapons,
and it's going to be I think, different guys emerging
in every game. And look, Canada is excellent. Canada also
has ten NBA players. Australia has a quality team. And
look that group with Canada, Australia, Spain, and Greece.
Speaker 6 (29:40):
You know, the teams that come out of that are going.
Speaker 7 (29:42):
To be so well prepared for the Metal Round because
that group is so tough. You know, Germany won the
World Cup last summer and we've already seen them play
the United States tough in an exhibition game. You know,
Serbia they've seen the United States have seen them twice.
You know they're due to play much better games. I mean,
there are better teams in the field down the road.
(30:06):
But again with this assemblage of talent, you know, it's
again I've been covering I've been covering this program since
the two thousand Worlds in Indianapolis, and I can't remember.
I mean, this is one of those rare times it happened. Okay,
maybe it happened in two thousand and eight, twenty twelve
of those Olympics, but it's a very rare occurrence that
(30:28):
the United States can say we have a full strength squad.
They have a full strength squad right now. They are
so insanely deep that the only American on the All
NBA team and the guy who was MVP two years
ago have gotten dnpcbs. I mean, they are just ridiculously deep,
and if they just keep the right approach, they are
(30:50):
not going to lose.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
You can fall on Twitter at the steinline, that is
at the steinline. Check them out on substack as well.
Mark as always appreciate your time. We'll talk to you
as the Olympics keep going.
Speaker 6 (31:03):
Sound good, guys, take care.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
I appreciate you, Maks. I really do you see I
I disagree with Mark.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
I really do think the more there's still a lot
of basketball to go, how many more guys that are
really good can the officials throw out that don't play
for France and give them, give them all kinds of
flagrant fouls and suddenly at the end, Hey, the United
States has to take on France with the gold medal.
They have three players left. It's Drew Holliday, Derek White
and Joel Embiid. Good luck, everybody.
Speaker 4 (31:29):
Here's the problem with it where we're at with the
unsportsmanlike files. None of them have been legit right, it's
one thing if you could just say okay, that's borderline
or okay, like all three that we've really been able
to highlight, we're ludicrous, absolutely insane. Unless you're just looking
(31:50):
for an agenda and you know where where there's you know,
the tinfoil hats come out, right, then that's the that's
the thing you fear as you're getting in these rounds,
like when's the next one. We watched it in the
women's soccer game today, right, they give yelling get these
girls out of the game before they get thrown out? Right,
Trinity Rodman got the yellow card. It's like, no, get
(32:11):
her off the pitch.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
Yeah, how many times did you see them sit there
and go or Julie Fatty like like she hit it
right on the head, Like how many times was she
sitting there saying, hey, you know what, I don't care
what you do. You really have to get Sam Coffee
out of this game. Don't want her to get another yellow.
Don't want to guess what she got another yellow. Now
she's out of the next game. Don't want her to
get yell when she stepped on.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
When she stepped on the woman's foot, right, the challenge
and miss oh, absolutely insane.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Thanks to Mark Stein for stopping by and talking Team
USA hoops. Right now, let's talk what's trending with Isaac Lohencross.
Speaker 3 (32:47):
What do you got? I love Hey, Jason and Mike.
Speaker 8 (32:49):
It is all over in San Diego, Padres over the
Dodgers eight to one. San Diego's won nine of ten.
Dylan Ceaese has eleventh victory of the season. Dodger pitcher
Clayton Kershaw, making a second start of this season, lasted
three and two thirds innings, did not record a strikeout.
That ended his major league record streak of appearances with
at least one strikeout at four hundred and four. Last
(33:12):
time he appeared in a major league game without a
strikeout all the way back on September twenty eighth, two
thousand and eight. Right now, the Colorado Rockies have a
two to one lead over the Angels in Anaheim at
the bottom of the eighth inning. In San Francisco, Giants
have won nothing over the Oakland A's with two outs
in the top of the ninth inning and an Oakland runner.
(33:33):
At First Olympics Wednesday, US men's basketball team clinch to
spot of the quarters with a one to three eighty
six win over South su dan Us women's soccer team
over Australia two to one, winning its group, improving to
three and oh. They will face Japan in the quarterfinals
On Saturday. Swimming, Katie Ledecki won the fifteen hundred meter
freestyle for her eighth career gold medal. Finally, the most
(33:57):
unique Olympic athlete athlete endorsement deal of the Summer Games
has been determined. Georgia, via, a member of Italy's silver
mining silver medal winning team in the all around gymnastics competition,
has an endorsement deal with Parmergon Cheese.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
Let's go, how do why not have that?
Speaker 1 (34:19):
I get parmajon cheese probably five days a week. How
do I do that have that deal?
Speaker 8 (34:23):
It's not a particular brand of Parmesan cheese, it's just
Parmesan cheese itself. So there's advertisements that show her posing
with these enormous, humongous wheels of Parmesan cheese that are
almost as big as she is. Remember she's a gymnast.
Back to you guys, But how the hell does she
(34:43):
get paid?
Speaker 3 (34:44):
Like just parmesan cheese? How do I get paid for that?
Speaker 4 (34:46):
It's like the avocado factory right that that you know, hey,
buy California avocado.
Speaker 8 (34:52):
I mean it's like a syndicate. Yeah, it's like I
guess it's like when you go to Olive Garden and
they say, okay, tell me when to stop. I mean
she never has to stop. I guess it's like lifetime
free whatever.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
How about do they sell those machines too?
Speaker 4 (35:03):
Right, blakes grinder? You can get it at the table.
Whoa twenty five bucks? So it's one of those sign Fox.
So it's one of those Seinfeld things. So lifetime supplier
parmesan cheese and a million dollars. Okay, we're prepared to
offer you a lifetime supply of parmesan cheese.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
I'll take it, thank you.
Speaker 4 (35:20):
Ilo.
Speaker 3 (35:21):
The Jason Smith Show with the Mike Harmon Livethetirack dot
Com Studios.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
Coming up next, The biggest and craziest Olympic controversy the
last twenty four hours. I think the Olympics should lean
into it. Lean into this kind. It's an embarrassing story.
They should lean into it.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
What is it? We'll tell you next Fox.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iheartradiop Well TJ.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
Clearly Jason and Mike are going to talk about some
sort of scandal now at three Olympics DJ The Jason
Smith Show with my Carmen Lifrom Thetirec dot Com Studios.
A story that we have talked about and and been
on the last couple of days has gotten its resolution.
Today the triathlon started and the swimmers swam in the sin.
(36:13):
Try to say, yeah, things fast after a postponement because
some of the sin wasn't deemed clean enough because there
was a big rainstorm and there were some some portions.
Speaker 3 (36:25):
Of the river that had two high levels of E. Coli.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
We didn't know what was going to happen. But they
were able to have the triathlon go off today. And
as you saw many swimmers swimming into the sin watching
them go, none of them came up gasping yelling it burns,
it burns. So I think everybody turned out to be
okay today. We did see that guy throwing up though, Yeah,
but was that because he swallowed bad water or was
(36:51):
that because you know he was it's you know, the
the the trut a shape.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
He had some bad boy I mean, some bad s
cargo before he went to the pastries were not off
to snuff.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
I mean, what are we talking here?
Speaker 4 (37:06):
No, I'm gonna say that he thought about what he
just did and it turned his stomach.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
Hey, maybe the smell. I don't know, you're really risking
it by jumping in the sin. You really want to
have snails before you go in there? Be my go ahead,
be my guest. You may as well go chase tornadoes
like Glenn Powell and twisters.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
You want to just go live like that. I don't
know what a little bit of rain and mist. I mean,
you can get that same effect with the T shirt on.
But I'm thinking, look at me, I look like Glenn
Powell in the movie. But I was thinking about this.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
What if instead of cleaning up the sin, you lean
into it and you just put stuff in there and say, hey,
you know what, triathlon is nice and they will be
the fastest swimmer, fastest biker, fastest runner. That's great. But
what if we started putting some obstacles in there. Maybe
that makes things a little more interesting. Maybe, hey, we'll
leave the e colon. Maybe throw a little bit of
mercury in there.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Why not? Hey that in there?
Speaker 1 (38:00):
Hey, well we'll throw you will have just have people
throwing garbage into the into the river as you swem,
why not lean into it. Hey, let let's make the
river an obstacle and it becomes something that's even more interesting. Hey,
hopefully they can avoid uh this area right here, you
can see you by the discolouration. There is something putt
in that water that is really not good. Look at
the Look at the fish just fly to the top
(38:21):
of the water, just flipping out. Yeah, you want to
avoid that area right there, says a very narrow area.
We're you gonna have to try to pass somebody if
you want to get ahead.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
Go into the.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Bicycle portion random archard stationed where there's oil slicks and
suddenly there's a little fire. Things like you're at the
water World thing at Universal Studios.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
I'm talking about putting stuff in the water. You're putting
archers on the ou.
Speaker 4 (38:44):
I'm just trying to give it some extra gravitas for
the television audience.
Speaker 3 (38:49):
Like this, it's like a full ong theme park ride.
Let's go boy, I'm talking.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
About I'm talking about watching a guy, you know, ceremonially
breaking thermometers and dripping mercury.
Speaker 3 (38:59):
Hey, let's let's see. I don't know you're doing with it.
You're dripping mercury.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
Okay, okay, you're not singing like you're dripping velvet like
Freddie Mercury. I am not advocating this. I am not
saying do it. We're just we're just talking about We're
talking about it as it made for TV event. We're
what's the bet television show has an exhibition?
Speaker 1 (39:21):
I mean, I just I really I wonder I watched,
Oh dude, come on, if they could go have gone
under Paris and added sharks sharks like it's Bruce or
those ones.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
They had the c G I ones from Deep Blue Seed.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
Yeah, cool, because that because that's part of Under Again,
if you haven't seen Under Paris, it's a great movie
to watch when you're watching the Olympic coverage, right to
think and see it. But but they actually had like
the you know, the sharks attacked at one point when
there was an event going on. It was Olympics, but
there was an event going on, and of course you
know it's political. They had to keep on the bag,
going you know, oh, I can't lose face. You have
(39:57):
to have this thing go off. I know we have
sharks in this, but we have to have this event
go off.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
See now we're taking it into a whole different world.
But I mean, I'm glad the event went on. I'd
still like some real answers from people other than we
had to do something because we spent one point five
billion dollars and the people were pissed.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
I mean, my daughter was joking.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
It was like, all right, it's another French Revolution on
the website because of the Olympics quality of the water
for the triathle Why are they talking about Robespierre on
the air?
Speaker 3 (40:30):
Well, we're going back to the French Revolution where they turn.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
No matter where the set is, people are singing songs
a miser rob.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
I don't know what's going on. Boy, Marquis de Lafayete's
getting a lot of run here. Why are we looking
at his storia? Marquis de Lafayette was born and eight.
But you know, I really sit back and I watch
this and I go, how did they all feel?
Speaker 3 (40:51):
Like? I know, every athlete was asking.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
Yeah, no, it's fine, it's fine, It's fine, but how
did they really feel when you're diving in that water
for the first time. You going, boy, I can see
some stuff. I said, yeah, you know what. No, but
you're saying I trained it.
Speaker 4 (41:05):
It's like the you were gonna drink the Fat episode
of Friends. It's just a milkshake, Vanilla milkshake, van Mila here,
it's I trained for four years.
Speaker 3 (41:14):
I'd stop it now.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
You spent one and a half billion dollars to clean
up the send. But yet one rainstorm. Hey, we got
to postpone it. We had postponed it, we had rain
we spent all I'm telling you that billion, that one
point five billion is somewhere no one can find it.
That is, no one can find it. Exit out by
the Fresco exit swollen dome. We have another big Olympic
story up next, Fox
