An unmaxed selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended in stallers. Tirac dot com
is the way tire buying should be. Well, we are
still in a weather delay the Pro Football Hall of
Fame game between the Texans and the Bears, that the
Bears are actually winning twenty one seventeen, still three minutes

(01:02):
ago on the third quarter. At some point they're going
to say this game is over, but they're sticking with
it for now. We're waiting to see if the weather
is going to move and they can continue to play
this game. I would be okay if they came back
and said, you know what, listen, the game is kind
of a we don't really care anymore. Let's just have
fifteen minutes worth of kickoff plays. Let's just really see

(01:25):
what we can do on here. Let's just have fifteen
minutes worth of kickoff plays. Well, that would be cool.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
And they can do it in the rain like it's
a slip and slide like the Bears have been using
for their quarterbacks in practice.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
But it's a final. Oh it just came through. Oh,
you're right, I just see it on I think it
just came through. It is a final. It is now
over twenty one. So now we can't have the kickoffs.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
On called all time because of weather.

Speaker 4 (01:50):
And now we'll just await all of the headlines about
the different sports books and whether they pay out. Remember
they did hit the over the twenty one seventeen kilt
Yours were plus one and a half for that. So yeah,
it's it's all good things. It's uh, you know, safety

(02:11):
man safety, I'm I'm mister safety lightning in the I've
got the radar up. You gotta take care of them.
You gotta get him home safely. Man, you let's go out.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
In the rain.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Let's go out in the rain. I'm against the elements.
I'm king lear right, my garmin. I'm against players, man.
I am not the golfer in Caddy Shack. I'm having
the greatest.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Round of my life.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Oh, the Good Lord would never disturb the greatest round
of byle. Okay, I'd keep playing, bishop uh So. Yes,
So that's it for football over. We got got Jason
Cole coming up in about twenty minutes. We'll talk about
the new kickoff rule with him. All the other big
news in the NFL today the injury to Justin Herbert Gino.
Smith is now banged up, and that's a thing. But

(02:55):
earlier today, big Olympic headlines. Tay, Yes, we watched some
own biles win the individual medal, and we watched team
USA defeat Belgium eighty seven seventy four women's hoops. So
now the US team goes to two and zero on
their way towards the gold medal. Now there was good
and there was bad in this. We'll do the bad

(03:16):
first and get to the good. That get to the bad, Yeah,
says the bad is the other thing is the bad
is a great hot take. The bad is it We
should do the good first. Let's do the good.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Let's do the good first and the build up.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
That way we could get the fire sound effect that
I tried to emulate yesterday. Yeah, that was terrible, man,
I was you hurt my throat? I was on log
Loses the rest of the night. I was up late.
I had to, you know, suck down some tea and
try to try to calm down my throat. And after
what was one of the worst sound effects. Look, Michael Winslow,
I'm not coming for your job.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Let's just make that one a game that was a
lot closer than the final score indicates, right, sore hind
Esk you made a three that didn't mean anything in
the final seconds to give it make an thirteen point win.
But this was a game where the United States struggled.
And we'll get to that because that's the hot take.
But of all going on, of all the ills of

(04:11):
what we've seen from Team USA so far, international basketball
women's is in the is in the place where the
men's were for a long time, where our players are
just so much better than the rest that we normally
roll over them. Right, the women haven't lost a game
since the semi finals in nineteen ninety two.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
What is it fifty seven in a row? Yeah, it's it's.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
It's a crazy number. Now this year, much like the men,
it looks like it's going to be a little bit
more difficult. Maybe not a ton more difficult, but a
little bit. Not as more difficult it's going to be
for the men, but it's going to be a little
bit more difficult. That being said, I'll go back to
what I said at the very beginning of the Olympics,
and right, let's I feel like I can be an

(04:54):
NBA analyst here in the Olympics? Is that?

Speaker 3 (04:57):
What did I say? Opening night?

Speaker 1 (04:58):
No matter what happens with the United States, I can't
see Asia Wilson and Brianna Stewart not bringing home the
gold medal. The bigs we have and Brittany Grinder as well.
But Grinder's minutes are down a little bit. You gotta
wonder what her stamina is going to be like. Obviously
she had a you know, look, her attention was spent
today a little bit. We had the big prisoner exchange,
and she weighed in on that obviously going back to

(05:20):
you know, thinking about Russia on a day like this,
she had some quotes on it. But Brianna Stuart and
Asia Wilson are far and away the best players in
the world right now. And I'm watching Brianna Stewart make
a steal in the open court in the fourth quarter
when Belgium's cut the lead to six and going in
and setting up a layup, and it's how can you
stop these bigs? Well, she was the best guard on

(05:42):
the court, though, I know right she's making she makes
guard like plays, like for someone who plays big down load.
She she is so athletic that she makes those guard
like plays.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
She was the best guard.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Yeah, I mean, I don't know if she might need
some time at guard because because obviously the guards to struggling. Again,
that's part of the hot take coming up. But between
her and Asia Wilson, they're unstoppable. They're absolutely unstoppable, and
I can't see the two of them not leading the
United States to a gold medal. And I said it
night one, and now it's being said now because they

(06:16):
each combine for forty nine to the eighty seven points
for Team USA. There are only three players or two
players overall in double figures and it was the two
of them. So quite honestly, yeah, this is how it's
gonna go. It's gonna be Stuart and Wilson because when
all else fails, they are just dominating the competition. I mean,
whether it's their height, their talent, there is no way

(06:37):
to stop them. And the best part is they can
both play on the floor together and if someone needs
a break, Britney Grinder comes out, it's impossible to stop her.
That's gonna be the formula the United States uses to
get to the gold medal as many issues as they have,
and they do. I can't see Brianna Stewart and Asia
Wilson not holding the American flag up at the end
after winning the gold medal game. And it's look at

(06:59):
the two of them. Take your pick as to who
the MVP is. Asian Wilson was this and Brianna Stewart
was this. We're going to win on their backs, and
that's how it's gonna end.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
I mean, you work down low and you see obviously
Stewart in the open court as well, adding that element
of the game. But just as much as Belgium did
to try to slow them down, and all credit in
the world, right, and they said it on the telecast,
and it's something you and I've been talking about in
these games, trying to figure out and you do this

(07:30):
at all sporting events, but certainly in these Olympics, trying
to figure out where the line is for the referees,
right in terms of files they're gonna call, how much
contact's gonna be allowed in the low post or up
at the three point arc, all of those things. And
for Belgium they did, I think a pretty good job
or as much as you could to try to contain

(07:51):
things down low, being physical and adding to a degree
of difficulty to the just shot making of the bigs.
For the US, so with the guards struggling out front
and not really being able to hit much in the
way of long distance, and that continues to be an issue,
dumping down low is really the order of the day

(08:14):
because they're going to be unstoppable. And I'll just play
the math there that I'll take my two point shots
with them against everybody else in the world shooting threes,
especially if you get a little more active on the
defensive end. But yeah, they were just fun to watch.
I mean, Stewart was unbelievable, Like she had a run
that you know, you just had a highlight reel of hers.

(08:37):
I went en route to a twenty six point performance.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
Now we get to the hot take. Oh again, let's go.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
If Caitlin Clark was on the Olympic team, she would
be starting the next game. That's how much the guards
have struggled so far in the Olympics, right, for different reasons,
and let's say it's becoming more and more apparent how
ridiculously bad choice it was to not bring her to
the Olympics, right, because you could have brought her as
a curiosity. You could have brought her as hey, we

(09:05):
take the number one overall pick to the Olympics like
they've always done, but they decided not to this year
because they're petty and they're jealous.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Right, you could have brought Caitlin Clarks.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
She could have had some mop up minutes or small
minutes the first couple of games, and then after today
you realize, hey, the WNBA assist leader needs to play
and needs to start because the guards have struggled so much.
The United States played five guards today okay, and there
was a little bit of good from a couple of them.
But you're talking about five players who combined to go

(09:35):
six of twenty from the floor, fourteen assists, and nine turnovers.
This was five guard. This is not one player. These
are five guards. This is Chelsea graand Diana Tarassi and
Sabrina Ionescu and Kelsey Plumb and Lloyd. They were not good.
They have trouble affecting the game. They have trouble affecting
the game offensively because they can't score whatever it is,

(09:57):
they can't find their way to the hoop, and they
can't hit their shots. Right, States has not been good.
They've got nothing out of there. You've got zero points
out of your starting backcourt. Today's zero.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Right, You've got sixteen points five right, yeah, he assists.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
You've got sixteen points out of your guards total, right,
sixteen fourteen and nine turnovers. No one's affecting the game
and playing well. No one is. And they're having trouble
getting the ball to the bigs. And this is why
maybe Brianna Stewart playing a little bit of guard. Hey,
I can get the ball up over everybody. I can
get the ball to Asian Wilson, don't worry about it.
I could do that absolutely. Like the best thing I

(10:29):
saw today, quite honestly, out of any of their guards
was Kelsey Plumb defensively being able in the fourth quarter
to harass Belgium's guards where they couldn't affect the game
right because they had to shoot some threes. And Van
lu who is one of their best players one out
of eleven from three point range, well, she.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
Was off balance and adjusting and trying to do quick
release because of the length the US And yeah, you know,
Plum defensively had a good hand in that.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Yeah, defensively, that's the best thing I saw for any
of the guards was that Plumb Defensively, Yes, she was
pretty good, But you need something else offensively because these
games have just been too close and it's kind of
stop and go. It's kind of just hey, let's get
the ball to Stuart and Wilson and they'll figure it out.
And you gotta have more than that because eventually, in
this tournament you're gonna play better teams, teams that have

(11:19):
seen you play and go, hey, your guards have trouble,
they got trouble with the ball. They have trouble defensively,
they still lose players, they're still able to you know,
Belgium was still able to free up players on screens
and they were able to get some threes. They just
shot horribly from three point range. So you're at this
point now, if you were Cheryl Reeve and you brought Caitlin,
you would have to bite the bullet and go, my goodness,

(11:41):
I can't stand her.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
I don't want her on the team.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
I'm petty and I'm jealous, but you would have to
start her because at least she's someone that's going to
get to the hoop or be able to get there
and dish and find the open player. It's been a
struggle with And you can sit here and say, oh,
it's Feeb, but it's this. But these are five guards
I'm watching playing and they gave the most run to
eye escue.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
Coming off the bench.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
I could say, okay, yeah, she did have five assists,
six points, but again three of those points were on
that last second, three when the game was up, when
they were.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
Up ten clock, so it didn't just here, you know,
it don't counts just the same.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
But yeah, I'm not seeing anything from them that tells me, Hey,
they're gonna be okay, you know, first game, Jitters. All right,
let's let's leave it out there. First game, Jitters, they'll
figure things out. Going to the second game, No, it
was still trouble. They still had way too much trouble.
And the guards whatever it is, they're just not here. Now.
Wouldn't you like to have, uh, Caitlin Clark that you
could go to to say, all right, let's see if

(12:36):
she can open up the offense a little bit or
maybe hit a three, because nobody's really hitting threes, right,
that's the whole thing. They had five threes all game today.
And this is a this is a feb A tournament
where hitting threes is like, this is how you win medals,
you know, so someone that can hit from the outside.
At some point, you can't just you can't just concentrate
all your defense on Caitlin Clark like you ken in

(12:56):
the w NBA, where hey, you only have a couple
of players to worry about. You get five on the
court to worry about. She'd be able to be open
up for threes. If Caitlyn Clark was off the team,
and she should have been, she'd be starting the next game.
They would all have to roll their rise and go Okay,
maybe this is what we need, but you gotta go
to something, because boy, they struggled in the backcourt the
last two games, and you can't just wait and let

(13:17):
them play it out and go, Okay, we're peaking, We're
this the men are starting to figure it out. Okay, hey,
they're getting to the point where all right now, now
we're seeing they're getting used to phoeba, They're gotting used
to the rotations.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
Who's playing, who's not.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
I'm seeing I saw the same thing in the second
game of the United States that I saw in the
first game. We struggled too much, but Stuart and Asa
Wilson build us out.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:37):
How fun would it be to see Caitlin Clark with
the no look passes down low right, cutting big and
you know stuff that as you got towards the back
end of the first half of the season, that communication
she had with A. Leah Boston and some of the
bigs there for Indiana, that you translate that into the
Olympic Olympic mark and look, we don't to re litigate

(14:00):
the beginning of failure UH to to get on board
UH and make sure you established your place, uh in
the Olympics, because you're being dwarfed by Ladeki Biles and
everything else just like just like normal. Right now, you've
got the rugby team that's trumped you with Caitlin Clark.
There there's still front page news or I mean real

(14:24):
black page of the fish wrap. Right now, you and
I are highlighting the issues and the problems. I don't
think they're getting that same level of attention elsewhere, So
we'll be the ones with the megaphones going you have issues.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
I mean, you created yourself and and look, and I'm
watching and look, and I want to I'm not like
hate watcher.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
And no, of course I want us to win. I
want us to dominate, want us to do well.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
I love the fact that that that we have this
kind of attention, that the ratings for the first women's
game were the highest ratings of anything until someone Biles
got involved. Now suddenly everybody we got Hey, I'll tell
you about star power. I'm some oone Biles, but uh,
but it was it's great to see. But look at
call like I see it. We talked about what's been
great for the United States. The guards haven't been good

(15:07):
and if you know, and I don't know what kind
of meetings they have toppen. They got to look at
each other and go, you know, I want to stop this.
They need Caitlin Clark stuff. Let's get out and get
this done. Let's motivate, right. We have not been good
against subpar competition. We have to find a way. And
they all kind of look lost. They all look like
they're pressing, like they want to make plays in the
back court. You know, Kelsey Plumb looks like she's pressing,

(15:28):
and ay and Esque looks like she's pressing. They all
look like, hey, we really want to make plays and
find a way to open up this game right away.
And it's just not happening for them. You can see
their sense of of I don't want to say erzy,
but it's more like panic where there's a couple of
times down the court and suddenly everything's gonna be great. No,
it's not been the case, and it's been two games
of it now. Yeah, Kayln Clark should have been there,
sho'd be starting. Just think about that, think about that

(15:49):
storyline to the limit. Kaitlin Clark's gonna start game three.
We get ready for the Metal round. Kayln Clark's in
the starting lineup for dm USA. People would say, oh,
it's nice someone Biles got twelve million viewers. Now it's
like thirty million view It's like watching the finale of
American Idol. Hey, so many people are now watching Team
USA women.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
It's awesome.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
They can still fly her in right. Um, yeah, someone's
got to go on with a mystery injury. They're getting somewhere,
a mystery injury.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
I'd not feeling good. Well, I mean, just just from
a roster standpoint, how does it work?

Speaker 1 (16:18):
Oh, no, I got it, No, I got it. You
have embiid. Hey, EMBIID, you're injured, You're out. And they
just don't replace his spot, but they give the extra
roster spot to Caitlin Clark who comes and plays.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
On the women's tips. That's out creative. Yeah, that's got
to get creative in the Olympics.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
Man's that.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
I'm sure there's a How long would it take them
to figure out that rule? If that rule is wrong
and by that time the gold medal game is over
and they had they won already, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (16:40):
We can really figure out.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
He could grab one of the lawyers from the billboards
or Jim Harbaugh, and they'll be able to get us
to the promised Land.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
They would say, Hey, Jason, what about what? I don't
know that this rule is right?

Speaker 3 (16:50):
Yeah? No, I might. Oh wow is the sin still dirty?
Wait what? I'll see it later. I gotta go take
care of that.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
I may.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Yeah, you go, you go, and you rule. You're just
being a simple cave man that I am. Exit out
a bout of Frasca exit swalling down. The Jason Smith

Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. Due to inclement weather in the Canton,
Ohio area, the NFL Hall of Fame Game Pro Football
Hall of Fame Game has been suspended currently as Devin
Hester is in the middle of a nine minute interview
on the sideline right now, as we wait for resumption
of this game with three minutes and thirty seconds to

(18:50):
go in the third quarter.

Speaker 4 (18:51):
Let's go all the way back to his collegiate days
and really stretch this thing out.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
Devin, let me take it back. You came out of
the womb.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
At what point did you really did you grab your
first football? You know, tell me about tell me. Let's
go all the way back to the very beginning. What
did you eat when you were a kid?

Speaker 4 (19:07):
Like, well, what's the first time you broke through the
first line of defense and found pay dirt? Let's play
playground escaping mom, dad, aunties? Whoever in the grocery store?
I mean, when did you know you had that vision
to where you could find daylight?

Speaker 1 (19:23):
Stretch stretch? Okay, hey, Devin, Hey, will you play heads
up with me? All right, great things?

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Here we go.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
Okay, let's do let's say, hang on, Harry Potter Star Wars. Oh,
around the house, around the house? Ready, here we go,
let's go. Let's play heads up together. Oh, could you
see the screen? Okay, so you can.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
Play along and no, here we go. Here's my interview
with Devin Ester.

Speaker 4 (19:39):
So I think that's a new fixture that we need
to add for our show.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
Going forward playing heads up on our show, some.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
Kind of heads up, you know, and then the clues
just get completely absurd.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
I think the audience would love it.

Speaker 1 (19:53):
And this is the worst Chicago White Sox. Right, Okay, next,
how dare you? Did I say anything incorrect? Did I
say anything in direct?

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Come up with.

Speaker 4 (20:03):
Positive content for the show where we could all have
a laugh and see where the deep recesses of our
mind unlock pop culture references and maybe some childhood trauma
that you never knew was there. And instead you go
and torment me on the White Sox and their level
of an aptitude here in twenty twenty four, this from

(20:24):
a guy it's football season now, fuddy. This from a
guy ball season ten minutes ago who said I'm anti
player safety. I'll be that guy. This is just you
said that ten.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
Minutes ago, and now suddenly I'm the man of the
people ten minutes I'll be the guy that's anti player safety.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
Right.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
I said, what would be the scintillating headline that we
could put out while we're talking about kickoffs, saying no, sir,
I don't like it, kickoffs can go away, beat it.
I mean, those are all fine, fine headlines and find
one liners to discuss where we're at. And if you
break the second or third level that I think that's wrinkle.

(21:00):
We have to figure out how do you rotate to
make sure there's a second and third line of defense,
you know, once that guy does break through that initial
rush that we have in terms of the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
But that's all finding good.

Speaker 4 (21:13):
I was trying to cut through and create content for
the show because it's a headline. But if people actually
listen beyond five seconds, they realize it's a ruse.

Speaker 3 (21:23):
That's not what I'm saying at all.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
Yeah, because because if you put something like that out
on social media, people are gonna absolutely hold on. No,
let me go deeper into what he said. Now, good,
look at what he said. Look you see what was
on social media today, all day today, weekly.

Speaker 4 (21:37):
Defensible based on what I actually said.

Speaker 1 (21:40):
Here, it would be TMC dot Com, Fox Sports radio host,
I'm antiplayer safety, and it would be a picture of
you yelling from when you sold a baseball card or
something and you'd be pointing at someone and it would
look awful.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
That's what That's what it would be.

Speaker 4 (21:57):
And then I had the guy because tomorrow I premieres
on streaming Kingdom of the Planet of the Inch. What
a wonderful day with all of the clicks and listens
of the podcast.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
That'll stop just long enough to hear that one.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
Line now big injury to get to here for the
next few minutes, and look we have we have tons
of great so tons of NFL stories to get to tonight,
which is great.

Speaker 3 (22:20):
Yeah, but Mike Trout out for the year now.

Speaker 1 (22:24):
He had his rehab cut short about a week ago.
He came out of he came out of his rehab game,
was going to be reassessed, and now we find out
today a tournamentiscus, he is out for the rest of
the year. Props to Bill Shaken La Times who came
up with this number today. In the last four years,

(22:44):
Mike Trout has played a total of forty one games
in the second half of the season in Major League
Baseball twenty twenty one, twenty two, twenty three, twenty four,
and in twenty twenty one he played forty games, which, oh,
we played a lot. No, that's still not a lot,
but that's the most one other year the next year,
in twenty two, he played one game. He has not
been on the field, and this is a guy who
was the best player in baseball for a long time

(23:07):
and with someone who yes, hopefully Mike Trout can get
to a World Series. All the plaudits went along with it.
But now at the point where I'm doubling down on
what we said last week when this happened. When Mike
Trout comes back to the majors, he comes back as
a full time designated hitter. He has played his last
inning in the field as a major leaguer. Maybe when
he retires, if he wants to go out and play

(23:29):
one final Hey, Trout's gonna go out and play center
field the last inning because he wants to do it
one last time. Great, but he's thirty three and he
can't stay in the lineup now. He has missed four
years of the prime years of his career. The Angels
who are paying a lot of them, who are paying
more money to guys to not play the last decade
than to have the guys who are play. He needs
to stay in the lineup. They need to keep him in.

(23:50):
I don't know how tough a conversation it's gonna be.
It would be, but it would be Mike, I don't
know if this is going to work, because look, if
a guy gets hurt and his body is breaking down,
it breaks down. We talked to about Trout for years. Hey,
he's a bigger guy, and he's going to start breaking
down when he hits thirty, because that's just what happens, right,
It's what happened to Cam Newton. When big guys play
heavy traffic positions, your shelf life is not as long

(24:13):
as other players. And Trout is someone who is a
bigger guy, and the way he plays the field, he
plays with reckless abandon and he plays hard and he
plays it great. Look, there was nobody better all around
than Mike Trout. He had a good five to seven
year run as the best all around player in baseball.
But now this is like year five of not being
able to stay on the field. And I don't know

(24:34):
if not playing center field is going to work, because.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
I'm not a doctor, but I'll play one. Right now.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
I know for sure if he's dhing, the possibility of
him playing one hundred and forty games is out there.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
It is there.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
When he's played one hundred and forty games and hitting
and running the bases, that's a hell of all has
to worry about than that and having the stress of
playing outfield all the time, especially if you're worried about
your meniscus, these lower body injuries.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
This is what's going to keep him in the lineup.

Speaker 1 (24:59):
It sucks, and it's awful because being the center fielder
also made him who he was. But at this point
it's like, Okay, we have to sacrifice that to keep
him in the lineup. We got to keep a guy
who once was the best player in the game in
And it's not like he's a guy that will you know,
he'll hit twenty to twenty five home runs, knock in
seventy five runs, but boy, he plays a great center field.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
He loses efficiency. No, no, no, this is.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
A thirty and one ten guy that'll hit three hundred
as long as the bat is still there. Mike Trott
is clearly going to be able to do that. Look,
that's what Shoeo Tony's been doing. He's not going to
play the field anymore. He'll be a DH the rest
of his career. When he pitches, he pitches. When he doesn't,
he's going to be the designated hitter. So it's not
a bad thing. It sucks, but when he comes back,
that's what he asked it. And if he does that,

(25:41):
if he comes back in his DH I guarantee you
his games played will go way up. He'll play, He'll
play in most games of the season. He'll maybe one
hundred and thirty hundred and forty games to want to
rest him a little bit, but you're going to see
the end of his career be at least where he
spends the last five years on the field and hitting,
which is a great traight off for the Angels to
make and for baseball fans.

Speaker 4 (26:03):
Yeah, I think this is where you know, I become
the man of the people again and we espouse.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
Your anti Mike Trout players. I want Mike Trout to play,
keep playing center field, run into the wall, run and
slide on every play.

Speaker 4 (26:16):
I'm anti player safety and I am complete player safety
in the preserve preservation of national.

Speaker 1 (26:22):
Landmarks such as Mike Trout. Okay, so anti player safety
a few minutes ago for guys running down the field
on kickoff. Ten minutes later, I am pro player safety
for Mike Draft.

Speaker 3 (26:32):
No, it was again the hot takery, not liking the new.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
K't coff rule. But here you should completely be a politician.
Wait wait, wait, oh, I said that it's not going
my way. I'm gonna go the other way. Now, people
will forget. People will forget that.

Speaker 4 (26:49):
I'd say anybody that it was actually listening to what
I had to say and has a couple of working
brain cells doesn't not understood exactly what I was saying.
I want to just be mad at mey make your
anger out on me, Leave your family alone, Be good
to your coworkers, kind to your server at a restaurant,
the person helping you on a flight, or if you're.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
I'm anti flight attendant, I'm Mike Harmon, I'm anti server.
I'm Mike Harmen. Seven twelve pm. Seven twelve pm. Tonight,
I'm anti player safety in football. Seven thirty one pm.
I'm pro Mike Trout safety.

Speaker 4 (27:28):
Like the stats bear it out. For a man who
was once one of the greats. And this is always
a reminder for anything in your life. Chairshit, This life
changes on a dime. This was a guy that was
putting up one of the careers we were watching and
marveling year after year with all the greats, and here

(27:48):
he is after five years. Here he is after six
years against all of the guys we revere as the
game's best. And then the last four years he's played
an average is sixty six and a half games. Is
it a total of forty one games after the All
Star break in those four games four years combined? Talking baseball, right,
this is out of John Boy media. In the games

(28:09):
that he has played in these last four years, nine
to fifty one ops with seventy six home runs, which
gives you forty six home runs per one hundred and
sixty two games played. If you want to do that
math and look the Angels. For all the derision that
we get after Ardy moreno about and some decisions made,
they took their shot right, They won the bidding, they

(28:30):
brought Otani over from Japan, they had those years. Did
they pay money terribly towards Anthony Rendon? Yes, he's saying
he wants to be on the field as soon as
he as he's eligible. Yeah, we'll wait and see whether
that happens. But in theory, you put a lot of
money on the field. You had, you bought the contract right.

(28:50):
The ten years you had Albert Pooles, you did everything
you could to push in pitching staff always stunk, but
you pushed all in on the hitting side to try
to be relevant and try to make some waves. And
unfortunately you're at a point where this guy's body just
betrays him time and time again active on the base paths.
So we talked about it for a long time. They

(29:11):
the crashing into walls, diving for balls, all of those
things that made him such a great player and an
enigma because what we knew.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
What do we know about the guy?

Speaker 4 (29:22):
He's an Eagles fan, uh and he and he likes
weather like he should have had a cameo uh in twisters,
all of that stuff beyond beyond that not in.

Speaker 3 (29:31):
His angel uniform. Tell it.

Speaker 1 (29:33):
If you feel it, well, then then okay. But the
line is supposed to be chase it. But if Mike
Trout says, if you feel it, then go see the doctor. God,
because your feelings that you wanted to get you looked
at trouty. If you feel it, goes to the doctor.

Speaker 4 (29:43):
You're feeling something in the knee, off the first step,
go back to the day.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
If you feel it, I'll get checked out by the doctor.
And that's a good that's good advice. I mean that
would actually be a PSA for everybody. Always is always
is it's good trout. But if you feel it got
the cowboy hat and the white T shirt like Powell's
got odds on everybody else.

Speaker 4 (30:01):
I still want to know who he stole that cowboy
hat from on set that day to decide to complete
the look. But the fact of the matter is, you know,
enjoy him when he's on the field. Likewise, all these
other other times. You know, we we talk about players, right,
I'd bring up the the Bengals fans leaving the loss
at the Super Bowl and oh, it's a bit brave

(30:21):
new world and hear the Bengals, Wow, what a ron whatever,
and we'll be back.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
You know this is good. No, you don't always get back,
so celebrate the hell out of it when you can.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
Exit out about a Fresca exit swollen Dome, The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. When you're
back over, Uh, well, I'm waiting for you to change
in ten minutes, I'm waiting for you to change back
to Hey, I'm in the middle some player safety, I'm
good for some I'm not like that's right.

Speaker 4 (30:47):
Oh no, I'm all about playing with middle abandon You
can give one career, get after it. But at some
point you know your your body's going to keep you
out of the lineup. You gotta at least be able
to swing a bat.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
No, that's where and hopefully it's not a difficult conversation.
And after four years of this, this is not one year,
but this is right, this is four years of this
happening now. And it's like you've lost your eight years
twenty nine through thirty three or basically nothing, right. I mean,
you've lost so much off of your career because of this.
And it's not your fall, it's how you look the cancer.
But now it's okay, you're thirty three, you still in theory,

(31:23):
have another really good five years left because of the
way he waited. You know, his talent, the way he
hits the ball. So let's take advantage of that. Let's
have that go on for the next five years. And
it won't be if he comes back as a DH
only and he and he goes thirty and one hundred
and he hits two eighty. Well, you know what, hey, man,
you'll deal with everything else. You'll deal with somebody else

(31:45):
got production out of him. You can go back and
put Rick Miller in center field if you want, to
I mean you could do that.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
That's a that's a deep pull. Rick Miller, that's a
deep point. The other Angels of Yesterye you want to
start it. No, dude, Dude, I hit you with Rick Miller.
That's a good one man at Rick. That's kind of
a walk off right there.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
So we will walk off right now and have special
delivery Steve to Sager, who does not like the Eagles,
but somehow like some form of weather. Because he lives
in Los Angeles, he has what's trending right now in
the wide world.

Speaker 6 (32:15):
Yea, yeah, because I like things that are different. It's
fun to watch web. Oh that's what it is. Fun
to watch it on the TV. Chicago Bears were actually
leading the NFL's exhibition opener, actually twenty one seventeen. Well
were they actually leading most of the night.

Speaker 7 (32:28):
Until recently, auly is a pejorative term, actually leading, I'm
saying news wise, they were losing for most of the night,
and then right before the rains come they were actually
leading twenty one seventeen over the Texans, and now late
their quarter players have been sent away from the field,
Fans instructed to leave their seats to seek shelter with
the storm.

Speaker 6 (32:48):
That has arrived. Who knows if this game will resume.
I will say I remember back in the eighties when
the Chargers and Packers were in the Hall of Fame
game in Can due to a severe storm. They just
called the game entirely in the fourth quarter, and I
don't believe there was a score at all. I think
that was eight zero zero final.

Speaker 1 (33:05):
So we've come a long waist because right now, you know,
ESPN's doing Sports Center with the Doppler radar behind us,
so like you can, it's instead of the logos of
the teams, it's the Doppler raider, so you can see
where the storms were.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
Okay, the storm heading towards Ken is it going away?
What do we have?

Speaker 4 (33:20):
Actually, Matt Twisters wasn't coming out this week. They could
get Glenn Powell live from wherever the hell he's standing.

Speaker 6 (33:25):
Still doesn't give me confidence they're gonna absolutely resume this
thing tonight. But okay, for now, the Bears are ahead
twenty one seventeen in the third quarter in the game
is quote suspended. As for the Olympic news, Simone Biles
won the all around gold in Paris. She was in
third place halfway through, but finished strongly on the beam
and the floor exercise. Katie Ledecki won her thirteenth career medal,

(33:47):
a silver in the four x two hundred relay. Today,
Australia took the gold. US women's basketball defeated Belgium eighty
seven to seventy four. Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins will
miss about four weeks with a knee injury. In baseball,
the Cubs have tied up the Cardinals four to four.
It's bottom of the knives, Rockies tied two two at
the Angels top of the fifth. And Yes, Mike Trout

(34:08):
is out for the year after another meniscus tear. He'll
have a second knee surgery this year.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O. The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Carmen.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
I mean, I'm expecting Jim Cantorei to show up like Bine, going, yeah,
here's what's going on right now, right now, out of
the winds, out of the west, right out of the way.

Speaker 3 (34:24):
They're coming out of Columbus.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
They're gonna get up here towards Maslin and then you're
gonna see it sort of just kind of dissipate out
over the lake here and you're going to kind of
come back up towards Cleveland. But then it's gonna figure
out and then we'll be able to have football at
some point. These I'm just naming all the cities I
know off the top of my other I don't know
if they're close to each other or not.

Speaker 4 (34:44):
I didn't say Cincinnati. I went with all the other ones.
Oh that's good. I mean Cincinnati. I mean it's just
kind of a given there.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
Look, Cincinnati is kind of like Kentucky. I mean it's
kind of like, you know, you're right on the border
there Kentucky. So it's yeah, So what Housta was.

Speaker 4 (34:56):
A one and a half point favor and the over
under actually did get up into the low thirties, So
I mean, we have hit the over there. But now
it comes the big debate if they don't resume, I mean,
which casinos, which books are going to pay out in
the spirit of goodwill for this season opener.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
The Bears actually winning, It's amazing.

Speaker 3 (35:19):

you know if they resume or if they cancel it
and people will try to go collect their bets and
say I had the Bears, I win, but Bears.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Big news in.

Speaker 1 (36:56):
The NFL today, we had a couple of big injuries
to break down over the course of the next minutes.
In the first really hit us in a shocking fashion
date because it really just came out of nowhere. Justin
Herbert Charger, star quarterback, is going to be out at
least the next few weeks with planner fascia in his foot.
He was diagnosed after practice yesterday. It's going to be

(37:16):
in a walking boot for the next couple of weeks
and then a gradual return to playing status, and the
team expects and hopes that he will be able to
play for Week one of the regular season. So immediately
I'm nervous, going, oh, now you expect me to be
ready for the start of the season. Anytime I hear
the phrase we expect them to be ready for the
start of the season, I go, oh, man, that means

(37:39):
they might not be or we expect them to be
back before the end of the season.

Speaker 3 (37:42):
Yep, no, we've seen the last of them.

Speaker 1 (37:43):
Like that's one of those trigger phrases where I go, yeah,
this is not nearly.

Speaker 3 (37:48):
What it should be.

Speaker 1 (37:49):
You have an entire month that Herbert's not going to
be able to get in with the new offense, with
his new teammates. Who knows what a slow return to
practice is. Maybe he starts throwing, you know, a week
after he gets back, who knows. And but that's been delayed.
The good news is he's had OTA's to get used
to stuff with the NFL be more year round.

Speaker 3 (38:08):
They have that.

Speaker 1 (38:09):
But this is where he's got to grab the reins
of a new offense. And all of a sudden, the
Chargers are saying, hey, we're thinking playoffs is are ceiling
this year in ten wins, And now that's in question
because the first couple of games they play are really
manageable games, but they're not manageable games without justin Herbert.
That's going to be a tough sled if he's out
for the beginning of the season.

Speaker 4 (38:30):
Easton Stick Max Duggan sitting in the second and third spots, respectively.
You've got a reconstituted weaponry in your receiving cores, new
running backs coming over from Balti.

Speaker 3 (38:44):
Where that's fine.

Speaker 4 (38:44):
The two step is okay, you've bolstered the offensive line
by adding Joe alt So. In theory, keeping him upright
was not going to be the problem. But now we're
talking about an injury. As you say, as soon as
we start saying that we expect to, we hope to,
et cetera, means you really don't have a firm grasp
of how quickly this injury is going to heal and

(39:07):
how quickly he'll be able to respond to where he
can be on the field. Because we've certainly seen guys
play through myriad issues in the past. But for Herbert,
you backed up the bringstruck you brought in Jim Harbaugh,
the idea that you were going to have this balanced
attack and really unleash Herbert in a whole different way, right,

(39:29):
where this offense becomes much more balanced and where he
can take his shots. And now we lose some of
the mobility because that's going to be compromised for the year, right,
I think we can stipulate to that being able to
slide in the pocket by time. So yeah, very concerning
because the expectation, certainly if you drive the freeways here Smith, right,

(39:50):
it's injury attorneys and Jim Harbaugh staring at you and
compelling you to buy tickets right now, Like I almost
feel like the face you know, wa get that or whatever.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
Whatever lawyer you know you need to call for whatever
personal injury you suffer. It's Jim Harbaugh and personal injury lawyers.
But you're Wine Horrball lawyer too. Harbaugh three, Harbaugh's now
staring at you. It's like I swear he's now that
the eyes are moving, Hey fix it on me, Like,
did go what if Harball was the lawyer? Would you

(40:23):
call Harbaugh to be your lawyer?

Speaker 3 (40:25):
But this goes back to you, Yeah, he'd confused the jury.
Though I don't think you can follow him.

Speaker 1 (40:31):
This is a big year for Justin Herbert because I've
said this in the last couple of months. I would
not be surprised if Justin Herbert is traded in the offseason.
Harball has come in, he's installing a new offense. Did
not go out and get weapons for him at wide receiver.
He wants to run the football a ton. Justin Herbert
is your best player. There's nobody else on the team

(40:53):
that scares you. Nobody else that scares you. But this
is the offense that Justin that Jim Harbaugh wants to run.
You've not gotten once the hole that Hey, Harball loves Herbert,
Herbert loves Harball. You've got weird statements coming out of
both of them football player in the last week when
they were when Harbaugh does his whole oh, first day
of camp is like.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
Being born, and hey, what do you think about that? Herbert?

Speaker 1 (41:16):
And Herbert says, well, you know, I just I'll leave
the analogies to coach. I'm worried about throwing the football. Okay,
you won that's Justin Herbert though, Yeah, but no, but
you wonder what what kind of relationship do they have.
He's he's looked like he's come in and he wants
to diminish Herbert's responsibility. And quite honestly, the guy is
on a three year decline. All right, he's on a

(41:36):
three He looked like he was going to be a
super duper star of twenty twenty one. But everything else
is down the last three years. His touchdowns are down,
his yards are down, his yards per attempt is down,
his rating is down.

Speaker 3 (41:46):
If you get if this isn't a season.

Speaker 1 (41:48):
Where he grasps control of the offense and leads them,
what's gonna happen. Harbor's gonna want his own quarterback in there.
He's gonna want his own guy in there. And Herbert
makes a lot of money, and he would be more
value to somebody else in the trade. Oh, we'd love
to put Herbert Naur offense. We'll throw the football up
and down the field. You want to do something different.
And suddenly Harball gets his quarterback, they're out from under

(42:09):
the Herbert contract, they get more draft picks, and they
build the team. I'm telling you, this is a key
season for Herbert, and if he's traded in the spring,
I'm not going to be surprised.

Speaker 3 (42:18):
Look at you, Look.

Speaker 4 (42:19):
At you now. You know you're just trying to enrage
and engage. I mean, that's worse than my I hate
player safety throwaway line from forty minutes ago, to which,
as you saw, my opinion evolved in twenty minutes.

Speaker 3 (42:34):
Exit out about Afresca exit swollen do? I mean?

Speaker 1 (42:36):
Look, it's you can see, I'm just reading how things
have been going and what the Chargers are planning and
how they want to run that offense. That's not featuring
the quarterback.

Speaker 4 (42:46):
You're trying to create division at How about Afresca exit
out about a Fresca exit swollen dome?

Speaker 1 (42:52):
Coming up next the Olympic hot take you didn't know
you needed, But it's time for Fox
