(00:49):
Two minutes ago in the third quarter, remember the game
started late because of the lightning delay. Mother Nature, you
will not take football from us.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
You will have.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
It still a one ty to ten lead for the
Chiefs over the Ravens. Game getting a little as if
the first half wasn't sloppy, getting a little bit sloppier
here in the second half. Ravens do have the football
nearing midfield and It really is tough because it's one
of those games where you feel like the Ravens and
(01:18):
Lamar Jackson have been playing really well, and here they
are down ten, about to go to the fourth quarter.
He's gonna be up now at around eighty five or
ninety yards rushing. He's sixteen out of twenty five throwing
the football and still there down ten.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Great work by the Chiefs in the third quarter, more
ball control and time of possession, evening out the yardage overall,
evening out up in the too sixties for both. The
thing that is, you brought it up before, so it's
imperative to jump on it now is the inability of
the Ravens receiving core to get any kind of space
(01:55):
because every time Lamar Jackson seems to go back to
pass read read all right yet and I'll do it myself.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Yeah, no, he's doing the whole thanos. Fine, I'll do
it myself. The Ravens wide receivers are Zay Flowers is
a good receiver. Jay Flowers is not justin Jefferson. He's
not a number one. No, he's not as they Flowers,
but he's a good receiver. But that's been the whole
thing with Lamar Jackson's entire career was Okay, let's bring
(02:21):
in some good receivers. Well, still, this is how they
throw the football. Okay, let's concentrate on running backs and
make sure we run the ball and maybe the receivers
we try to figure out. And still it's the same
kind of completion. It's it's strange, But at this point,
I think, if you're the Ravens, you have to say,
we need some guys that can create some kind of
separation because this is this is a really bad wide
(02:43):
receiver room. It really is. And I know that they've
tried different ways. We've tried to bring in number one guys,
we tried to bring in depth. We try, but you
gotta keep trying to just don't do the same thing.
Do something different at least maga where Hey, these guys
are great possession receivers. They can throw the ball short.
It doesn't need to be able to throw the ball
along because look, Lamar Jackson throwing the ball along. Look
it's a dice roll. But if he can throw the
(03:04):
ball short and he's able to own the middle of
the field because of the crossing patterns said that he's
able to throw really well at and throwing on the run,
like that's kind of what you need. You can't come
out here every year with just this DA And I
can't believe we're having this conversation knowing how bad the
Chiefs wide receiving Corps was in the first half. But
the Ravens wide receiver it scares nobody. Then nobody is afraid.
(03:27):
And now you've see the last few minutes, it's defaulted
to Lamar Jackson dropping back to pass, not seeing anything,
and he's taken off way sooner than he was in
the first half. There were some design runs in the
first half that were taking advantage of Lamar Jackson what
he does well, some fakes to Derrick Henry terrific. But
this seems like we're back to the old Hey, what
do I see? I don't see anything, so I'm taking off.
(03:47):
He nearly ran for a touchdown about forty five seconds ago,
all the way down to the five yard line, but
holding penalty brings it back. He runs the ball in
the next play too, and gains about three or four yards.
So I feel like getting back to what it used
to be. And I look at this and I go, man,
this is not a problem. It's gonna get better. The
Ravens wide receivers are not gonna suddenly all get better
(04:09):
and they're gonna figure this out like this. This is
a wide receiver room that you go, man, this is
something they can struggle with all season long. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
The holding call that was made was one of those
spirit versus letter of the laws because the defensive lineman
really sold the hell out of it. It didn't seem
to be much of a hold, but it is where
Lamar Jackson was able to find his daylight. So sure,
sell and it pulls back. But you look at the
breakdown to this point, seventeen receptions for the Ravens, five
(04:40):
by Justice Hill, six by Jay Flowers, four by Isaiah Likely.
There you go one for Andrews, one for Rashad Bateman,
and then you got two targets, zero catches for Derick Henry. Conversely,
Jeeves aren't exactly lighting it up there. I oh no, right,
Rashid Rice has found some space like he and and
(05:00):
Patrick Mahomes have obviously picked up where they left off
the back end of last season when Rice started to emerge.
But otherwise you got one catch for Justin Watson, you
got one catch for a XAF you're worthy and that's
it from the wide receivers. Kelsey's got three. Uh, Noah
Gray two for twenty four. Congratulations on the contract extension.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Yeah, it's nice.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
It's not for him.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Yeah, well, I mean, look, they got offset Chiefs a Haulic.
Somehow can we do something so people stop talking abot
Chiefs the Haulic? Is there anybody we can give money to?
Ah hang on? Noah, great, great, give me a three
year deal.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Do you think angry blogger said just like Chief a
Halic Noah Gray steals.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Oh no, wow, you're going to hell for that. You
know you're going to hell?
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Oh, come on, tell me there wasn't some angry Chiefs
blogger that did it.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
You're going to hell for that? No, you're going to
I was pretty sorry. You're going to hell.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
Come right somewhere out there, somebody will laughing.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Satan's going to meet you at the whatever, not the
Pearly Gates, at the Bloodgates. He's gonna go. Yes, mister Armond,
that joke you made. That timing. I believe it was
early September that got you in and is going to
roll over for a belly rush that that, and I
like all the dead people that you bring up on
the show all the time, especially the ones that are here.
(06:10):
That guy's over there, they want to meet him. They
all want to say hello to you. Go ahead, I'll
lined up to welcome you here. They are, just you
have to get past the river sticks to get there.
Late where you're with me, I'm fine. So that's where
we're at right now, twenty to ten, And yeah we'll
get to the Ravens receivers. Both teams with receiver issues.
(06:32):
But still uh but as you said, I say this,
Isaiah likely catches a what's it about a sixty yard
touchdown pass?
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Nice move to get open and some brown the side downs.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Lamar Jackson finds Isaiah likely on the sideline. He tiptoes
the rest of the way. This ball is about about
twenty air yards and the Chiefs do a horrendous job
of tackling and trying to force him back to the
middlefielder knocking him out of bounds, and he gets all
the way down the sideline, a little bit of a
(07:08):
stop to let one of the Chiefs defenders run by,
and goes into the end zone for a touchdown. Now
twenty to sixteen extra point pending for Justin Tucker, and
now suddenly we will have a game with about fourteen
and a half to go in the fourth quarter. Right
that little jump step after the catch, though, Look a
tight end catches one.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
All right, great, Well, but he was the guy we
talked about coming into the season that he was gonna
have to take a big step up and the dual
tight end threats, we're gonna be the main catalyst for
this passing attack. And well, he makes a move niftier
than anything we've seen from a wide out.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Clearly they're listening to the show. Hey, ed idiot Jets
fan just said to we on anybody can catch balls.
I'm listening. Shouldn't you just be calling plays? No, I'm
listening to the show because they're fun. I like listen.
They're talking about us. Can somebody make it play? All right?
All right, cool, coach, I'll do it for that.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Well, they said they like the tight ends, just expected
to see more of them. We just talked about how
he had four catches for thirty eight yards. So again,
twenty to seventeen, Chiefs lead the Ravens early in the
fourth quarter of More on this game coming up in
a few minutes. Meanwhile, a big injury today because all
of this quarterback derby all off season long, who's gonna win?
(08:16):
Russell Wilson justin fields. Russell Wilson held out of practice today.
He is suffering from a calf injury, the same injury
that kept him out in the beginning of training camp.
And the Steelers say, well, we're keeping him out out
of an abundance of caution, the abundance zone. First, I
want to say, I want someone just to say, this
is the bare minimum of caution, Like it's always an
(08:38):
abundance of caution. Like no one says, hey, we're doing this,
We're ready to put him back out there.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
This is the bare minimum of caution, that's why. But
an abundance of caution.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
He didn't need to work today. We've still got a
couple of days. But abundance of caution, we're really looking
out for him. Is that required by the CBA to
show that you really care?
Speaker 1 (08:57):
I think I think that's a CBA and actually says, hey,
they always have to show an abundance of cars okay, right, yeah,
And to define what an abundance is.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
Does that mean you get two mints on the pillow.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
All right, here's what abundance means, and that's how it
means when you go forward to here. Okay, but two
big takeaways from this. Number one not that look, I'm
not a doctor, but when you see people with balky calfs,
how many times does that turn into an achilles injury?
We've seen it with Kevin Durant. We saw it last
year with Aaron Rodgers who had a balky calf beginning
(09:29):
of practice for the Jets. Oh no, everything is fine,
everything's and then he blows out his achilles in Week one.
So there is a correlation between not saying that's gonna
happen to Russell Wilson, but just this is the second
time with a calf injury going into the season. Load
up on the Falcons opening week, Load up on the
(09:50):
Falcons on Sunday, because the Steelers are gonna put Russell
Wilson out there if they have to tape his leg
back on if it falls off, because they have gone
so far down down the road to ensure that he
wins this starting quarterback job for some reason. Again, what
do I say, find someone who loves you like Mike
Tomlin loves making excuses for Russell Wilson. You're gonna put
(10:10):
Russell Wilson out there even though he's not gonna be mobile,
He's not his his his escape factor, which is what
he needs, is not going to be the same oh,
which hasn't been the same inn And he'll be a
sitting duck in the pocket because he's not gonna be
able to do his normal thing. That's gonna be awful
and it's going to be difficult for the Steelers and
the Falcon is going to rack up a lot of sacks.
But it doesn't matter because the Steelers they have to
(10:31):
put him out there. They went to the wall so
many times to say, he is our guy, he is
our guy. He's not very good, he is our guy.
He's injured, he is our guy. Justin feels might biel,
but he is our guy. He is our guy. We're
gonna put him out there for the final preseason games.
He can show us what he can do. He completed
one pass. Take him out of the game. He's man.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Hand off to court. Darryl Patterson was fantastic.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
It really it is. Find someone who loves you like
Mike Tomlin loves Wilson excuses for him, so you know
he's going to be out there. There's no way the
Steelers do all of this and then say, hey, Justin
go get him. No, there is absolutely no way that happens.
They're gonna do everything to put Russell Wilson out there
because that's where they're at, and they feel if we
(11:13):
put Justin Fields out there, what happens if Justin Fields plays? Well,
I'll even go this far. Let's just say something crazy
ass happens and you really can't put Russell Wilson out there, right,
You really can't put him out there. He can't practice
all week, really can't put him out there. Justin Fields
could start and he could throw for three touchdowns and
run for two, and it would be Wow, look at this,
and Pittsburgh could win forty eight to seventeen. Look at
(11:36):
Justin Fields three hundred yards passing three touchdowns, he runs
for one hundred and twenty two yards and two scores.
What a great day. Pittsburgh will still go back to
Russell Wilson the next week, and Mike Tommon will say
something like losing your job for injury, some kind of
crazy thing to get Russell Wilson back. That's how much
they want Russell Wilson to succeed when they don't see
(11:57):
what's in front of them, which is Justin Fields is
more talent to guy. He's better and you need to
see him. And at some point it's going to happen.
The Steelers are gonna have no choice because they're gonna
be losing games and we're not getting anything for a
quarterback position. But you could put Fields out there and
he could have five touchdowns and it would still Hey,
great by Justin He's doing great with us, But you know, hey,
when Russ is ready, he's our guy. What are you
(12:17):
talking about? He's I could see that.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
I see.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
I could close my eyes and see that like a
movie in my mind, and it's in three D. And
not only that, I'm sitting in the D box seats
where when you're running in and the seat's going or
there's explosions going on and then the seat is going
up and down. That's how much I can feel that happen.
They'll put him out there no matter what. But if
they just can't, because whatever reason, they will still put
him back in even if Justin Fields goes nuts. Guarantee
(12:43):
take a deep breath. In the words of the famous
fan from the other night for Florida.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
State, let's go book it nicely done. Way to bring
it all back, Way to tie a bow on it. Look,
we talked about this a lot in the preseason and
the months leading up to it. Wilson and Field were
in to for the Steelers. While I am long on
record of using terms far more severe than washed to
(13:12):
describe Russell Wilson, folcsill point to the touchdown interception ratio
and the yardage and everything he was able to do
last year with the diminished run of receivers, some injuries
of the running back position. All that to say, the
thing you circle is the turnover mark from his interceptions
and his fumbles. It's the one thing for Justin Fields
(13:33):
that you haven't been able to coach out of him.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Right.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
We joked about it with Doug Peterson and what he
had to say about mac Jones down in Jacksonville. There's
a lot that we like. He's growing and he's come
along in our system great, but some days we still
got to coach that.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
New England out of him. We still got to get
that Patriots Mac Jones out of him.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
With Justin Fields. I watched it for years. I watched
every doubt of it. There's a lot of electrifying play.
It's got like Bill Belichick was talking about with Caleb
Williams today right being asked about, you know, how impressed
were you with his preseasons, Like, well, he did a
couple of things that were great highlights. He was ten
of twenty, and he made some mistakes, and there weren't
as many flash plays as folks would like to think
(14:18):
With Justin Fields. There were some flash plays, but there
was also the scramble scramble app he's got the loaf
of bread out there, that's done, and we saw it
in the preseason with multiple times. Which is why Russell
Wilson's gonna get every opportunity because look, this their win
loss record, right and they're at eight and a half,
and I bring the Bears up right because we tie
them together both at eight and a half. All about
(14:38):
where your perception is on things is the fact that
they're not scoring, but what twenty two points a game?
Maybe if they're lucky, it's all gonna be predicated on defense.
They're also not helped by the fact that Jalen Warren
is entering the season injured as well. Right, that's not
helping matters. And then we look at the receiving corps
and who are you afraid of? George Pickens has his moments,
(15:01):
Friar Mouth has his moments, Friar Moot's injured a lot,
and the rest of the receiving corps has a giant question.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Mark over it.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
But for the Steelers, the margin of error is so minimal,
which is why Wilson gets the nod. Even if he's
not as electrifying and doesn't have as high a ceiling,
his floor is a little bit higher. He's no longer
mister Unlimited, but he'll take care of the football and
that equals victories in the National Football League. Founding man Hey,
(15:32):
load up on the Falcons because the're gonna put Wilson
in b if.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Justin fields is great. Trade him in fantasy because they'll
go back to Russell Wilson just because because.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
Current line sitting at three and a half, Falcons favored
at home, the line open to two and a.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
Half exit out about a Fresco exit swelling down the
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, And
as I say, this as I was ready to trade
Patrick Mahomes in fantasy right now. Mahomes find Xavier Worthy
down the sideline for a touchdown to make it a
twenty six seventeen game. Extra point pending looked like a
(16:10):
blown coverage. Gonna gonna watch it again on the replay,
Yeah no, no safety help. Looked like he thought there
was help from the safety. Worthy is wide open. He
catches his second pass the night. It's the second touchdown
for Xavier Worthy to give the Chiefs what is going
to likely be a ten point lead with about ten
minutes to go in the fourth quarter. That's the storm.
(16:32):
It is now twenty seven to seventeen. You are very
close to the over under forty six and a half.
I'm looking at you, which I told you. I loved
the over underwell talked about it last night. So I
feel okay that I'll get I thought we'd blow past
the over under, but I love the over under. I
said it last night. I feel okay now that we're that,
(16:52):
we're just about I thought the kickers would would give
us a little more help. And then Tucker missed that
fifty three yard That's still that's still too soon for me.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
With that Still I almost throw a hammer through a
TV like I was in an old Apple commercial.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
We'll have more on this game coming up next, plus

Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon live from the ti rack dot com studios,
where we just watched a thriller Isaiah Likeley's tow about
three inches out of bounds on the final play the
Ravens game tying touchdown is not a touchdown and the
Chiefs win it twenty seven to twenty. Joining us now
(19:35):
in the hotline a man who summed up this game
with two words on social media about a half hour ago,
Holy schneikes. Nicely done. You can follow on Twitter at
Jay Glazer NFL on Fox in Snyder Jay Glazer, who
watched this game tonight with Brett Michaels and a bunch
of other people. Jay Glazer, what's happening, buddy?
Speaker 2 (19:56):
What is that? Brett Michaels And Mike Tomlin son ooh,
Mason Tomlin who is now opening up for Brett Michaels
when Brett goes on the road.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
How about that?
Speaker 2 (20:06):
There you go?
Speaker 1 (20:07):
Oh wow?
Speaker 2 (20:10):
And and another guy named Jay Hran who is where
he Morris's college roommate and He's since gone on to
win the Militor Welterweight Championship of the World fought in
the UFC. Now he's like every like every time you
see a movie and you need like a drug lord
or a guy in jail or a gun member, he's
(20:31):
your guy.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
So I mean, look, there's plenty of movies, TV shows,
and you know, just news stories in that way.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
He watched in my house for me when I'm gone.
So do you want to rob this out? Good luck?
Speaker 1 (20:46):
All right? So are you guys still hanging out?
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Like?
Speaker 1 (20:49):
Is Brett Michael still there? I appreciate you taking up.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
I gotta I gotta work. I gotta kick him out,
get out.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
I got work to do. You kicked out a rock
star at nine thirty at night like this is when
they start to day.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
Sorry, that what I'm working with? Come on now, all right?
Speaker 1 (21:04):
So hey, obviously an unbelievable thriller. First thing I want
to say, if you worked with Isaiah Likely and Unbreakable,
could you get his shoe size down a couple where
that would have been in bounce?
Speaker 2 (21:15):
No, I think that's the that's kind of breakable, isn't it. No,
it's not a really good brand. And I tell you what, though,
it definitely felt like the energy of a playoff cam.
Like you look at, say, okay, there's certainly look the
Chiefs offense. I mean, this is week one and they're
(21:37):
not even clocking all cylinder. They're even gonna get better.
They're gonna get Hollywood Brown, Like, I don't know how
you're gonna stop. This offense is ridiculous. The Ravens, They're
gonna click better. But I'm just thinking the energy of
the game was so it's so like a playoff camp.
I thought that early calls with Ronnie Stell and the
(21:59):
other tackle cool garbage, if you want to make a
point of it. I didn't really understand it was really
really on the edge there. I thought, you know, the
raven got yet to get the Chiefs. But I do
you know, I look at it and go, will these
teams be facing again each other again in the playoffs? Yeah?
I would certainly think, you know, for damn sure you will.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
As we're watching it, Jay, obviously the one man gang
that is Lamar Jackson Isaiah likely comes up monstrous.
Speaker 6 (22:26):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
I'm just wondering if.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
I balanced him more. Also, I know Lamar, you know
he came into this game chip on the shoulder. But man,
you got Derek Henry back there too, I would certainly
start balancing him more. So it's picked your poison. Like,
if you're gonna load up there and try and stop
you know, Lamar, then Derek's gonna get you. But if
you're gonna sit there loaded against Derek ib is just
you know, chugging, then it's gonna open up so many
things for Lamar. But it's just per Camp per camp.
(22:52):
But I think if you get those two guys clicking,
and then again, if you want to load up on
those guys and Dave Flower's gonna get you, and then
you know, the two tid Ends gonna get you. Like
you know, the Chiefs offense just seemless looks clicking Raven's
offense once it does click fully where everything's involved, like
and the Chiefs defense. I mean, if the Raven's defense
did a phenomenal job even though you know the Bauls
(23:16):
are moving, that they were moving quickly, Raven's defense did
a phenomenal job against an offense, I just think it's
gonna be is gonna look unstoppable and many times during
the season, you know and The thing.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
Is Jay, if you had to say who was his
best player on the field tonight, I don't know if
it was the weight loss, but Lamar Jackson looked like
this was week eight or week nine for him, and
he really stood out from that he.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Did on the ground, but there was also a lot
of like a lot of paths that words a missed.
He got nothing a lot in camp, a lot of
guys who weren't available in camp, and you could see
some of that, you know, especially in the end zone
there to day flower right, it's wide open right behind him,
and it's likely right before that. So there were some
times that he was off. But it's like I'm saying,
they're gonna gel a lot better. But he was the
(23:58):
guy that he's the jail, he's a human joys, sex, predictos.
He's definitely you know, video game ask but everybody's got
to stand the round.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
It's a hell of a way huge.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Lamar got huge, But you know, I think with somebody
like him, because you have to improvise so much, you
gotta do it. You got to do a lot more
work with him.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
No, that's just it right timing, And we were wondering,
you know, receiving core, You've got Flowers and you got
the tight end whether you have that extra guy, and
then Bateman makes that catchdown the stretch, Like all right,
maybe timing there, Uh, that'll get better, but it remains
to be seen.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Yeah, I think, like I said, I think if you
started loosening up the defense too with Derreck Henry a
lot more than those who open open themselves up even more.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
All right, Now, Jay, away from this game, I gotta
think you got some kind of insight in fro from
Mike tomlin Son on what's going on with Russell Wilson,
his cat injury and just.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
Talking about Sunday.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
That's a tease. That's a tease for Jay's block. As
the NFL on Fox return.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Damn right certainly has ben We're back.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
The family returns again.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
All right, So without the inside info from Mike tomlins Son.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
Hey no, no, no, but else, I don't know. I
don't know how Russell's gonna wake up tomorrow. I've torn
my cap. It's awful, but it also just always grabs.
I don't know. But even Russell Gough was also got
we're gonna play both quarterbacks at least have the plan
we'll see what happened going into the cam and the
plan is to get both them out there. But yeah,
I can't. I can't answer because I don't know if
(25:32):
he's gonna it's gonna he's a wake up tomorrow and
it's to be locked up, or he's gonna do you know,
whatever the treatment they're doing it works. I can't tell
you that Thursday.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
There you go asked and answered do you want? You
wanted more? Russell wime.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
I'm going to look at that video that Jay put
up of Brett Michaels and Mike tom I'm gonna see,
like how tomlin Son is sitting on the couch. If
I can get the flu from there, just something from
there for Sunday.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
I'll nod your head if you want to give me
a little bit of love.
Speaker 1 (25:59):
But go through that. So jays As you did your
training camp tour and now you have that that last minute,
you know, getting ready to be back with the family.
You guys on set, you did the stuff, you know,
the retreat that that happens every year, the Fox family
getting back together. What's that moment like after being away
from each other for those months?
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Oh man, he's got in my family. He's my twenty
first year and you know how we trry their thirty
first and Kurt's nineteenth and straight seventeenth. And now we
get this rookie. You know I've ever heard of it
was coming to a ups up working or something. But
it's like, but even him, he is like tap dead,
(26:37):
like we've all known it for a long time, but
like calm fits. Our our crew are crazy and but
we're we're away from each other for so loe. Yeah, guys,
we're like we all get together right after the draft.
You know, we get together obviously, and that's just us
like our pregame show and our crew get together and
(26:58):
we go away. We go to Vegas, we go Bahamas.
We're also, like I said, we're best man at each
other's wedding. There no last suits and weddings there is uh,
We're got the godfathers of each other's kids. We spend
most holidays together like we are. We've just spent Thanksgiving
and Christmas and everything together. I can't get to enjoy
(27:19):
me for youmkpoor yet, but that'll change. But it really
is the most special family. And like, man, I've talked
to you guys how much I need my team between
my ears, and they make it so much better for me.
It's so much better when I'm around my crew man.
We're and we're all getting together tomorrow night for dinner,
(27:40):
like we just can't wait now.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
Because this is the first time we talked to you
since you got married. To give me the one biggest
thing you've learned in the last few months since your well,
what's the one non football, one biggest relationship wedding marriage
thing you've learned the last few months.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Oh, we date your wife. Date your wife like Ben's
best friend. You marry, you show it for a reason,
like she's right there. You got your best friend to
go out with every night, dade her and uh. But
I also I never I never thought it would happened
for me, and I did so much work. And the
other thing is never too late to f I love.
You got to do the work on yourself when you
(28:17):
are alone. You can present the best person in yourself
to be available when you're when you're ready. I thought
I was ready all these years, but I wasn't. I
sabotaged everything because I didn't think I was worthy of it.
And that's what my you know, my mental health stuff
always told me, so I either chose people that I
knew it wouldn't work out with. If something was good,
I would sabotage it because I knew would end at
some point, and I would I would just the pain
(28:40):
for me of what it was going to end. Living
in question was harder for me than attended, so I
would speed up the end. And I don't got to
do that. And my wife was a she was a man.
She's a walking throws act. She is incredible, and I
never knew I could. I was literally texting stray and today, man,
the best training camp ever in my life because I
(29:02):
did everything in this camp, and I did a really camp.
Like I go to these camps. I got my own
set of rules. I work out in the teams. I
got av I'll go eat with them than do my
how dreams. You know, I lived through them. I do everything.
But everybody could tell like it was like the way
that the world's off my shoulders because the first time
my life, I'm like, yeah, I'm I deserve to be loved.
I just never felt it till now. And I'm able
(29:24):
to like tell my wife when I have my meltdown,
this is what I need and she does it, She's like,
I'm not going anywhere. I got you back, And man,
I'm a different I don't say I'm a different guy,
but I have different emotions in different levels of joy
than I ever knew I could. I could ever achieve
in my life because I did the work. So do
the work.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
The unmistakable voice, our friend, longtime family member here, positivity
radiating through the microphone, unbreakable performance, mental health warrior, founder
of MVP. Obviously Fox NFL Sunday, you've seen him acting.
He posted the picture of himself with hair from the
press booth. It's our guy, Jay Glazer at Jay Glazer
(30:05):
with Jason Smith and I Mike Garmin here Fox Sports Radio.
So Jay, so all the camp stuff, the usual shenanigans
and stories and pranks and all. Who are the teams
or individuals that impressed you most?
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Fat man? Oh my god, man, it was forty one days.
I've been gone. Yeah, I can't think. Well here, I
can tell cultures, so okay, you know culture. Look, look,
I went spent time with Cheese and they any read
I went to dinner and want to walk through with
him and most teams when they are like winning guys
(30:42):
in the Patriots on their rumble. When teams win, it's
it's hard to always go back and everybody comes in.
It's like, I'm the reason we want I'm the reason
that's that, And it's hypotergens man. They it's like, hey,
it's a business trip. It really is like and they
and Andy lets him have fun and he's like your
favorite uncle. You don't want to this point at culture's great.
(31:03):
The two cultures of violence are around where the Steelers
and the Ravens there are cultures of violence. It's still
a violent game, and they're the most violent culture. I
tell you who else I think is gonna have a
huge year Jalen Carter with Philly. I think this is
going to be who span. He is going to be
right up there this year, and he has the potential
to have a Christian alones type of year. Trying to
(31:26):
think who else? Man, that's a lot of drunken nights
math you got, I.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
Know, buddy, I forget about everything I learned. It's a
few hours before he's got notes.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
I'll tell the other thing too, uh. Probat of the
week before from fan announced Phone Nicks and the Starter.
I went out there there against Green Bay for a
day and I went out there for a day and
a half and literally the first day, I'm a sew.
This kid is not a kid like this dude's the dude, Like,
oh my god, He's like and dwy Sewan talks like body,
(31:59):
trust me, buddy, he's like hit like, oh my god
like and it was like, this dude is man. He
is not a rookie hits like. I felt like just
his presence and this guy had been in that locker
room for ten years, so that was pretty cool to see. Also,
then you know what, through the Bears, I do like
(32:20):
the Bearers. I love how Tyalem is like Caleb's presence
over there. Also he is man, thinks about everybody's thoughtful, Like,
no one really knows the guy, so everybody has these
stories that they're just lobbing up there because you don't
he really cares. But his teammates freaking love him, The
coaches love front office loves him. So I said, I
(32:43):
think the Bear is gonna be a pretty danse up team.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
He's on Twitter at Jay Glazer, that is at Jay Glazer. Jay,
welcome back for another year. Congratulations on your happiness. Nobody
deserves it more than you now. Now this still means
Howie Long is still your uber driver right well, now
I'm in California.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
When he's over here in California, I still make him
do some choice.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
Okay, good, good, Some things have to stay traditions, my instact.
Now it's nice, brought over see you, buddy. I've put
at dinner tomorrow night. The legend returns incomparable Howie Long instacart.
(33:27):
That's what it is. It's good.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
It's good when the family gets back together. I mean,
Jay's been part of the show since we started, so
very excited to get him back in the mix.
Speaker 1 (33:35):
And what a great story about his wedding and how
he feels in their relationship. And it was just an awesome,
awesome thing.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
There no just a lot of light, a lot of positivity,
unbreakable downloaded. Wherever you get podcasts, you's got one working out.
He and He and Michaels have a podcast they're brewing
up too. It's gonna be the Every Rose has Its
Thorn podcast. Oh wow, I think or the or the
Talk Dirty to Me podcast. Well, I think I'd rather
listen to that one. Well, I think you get a
lot of hits immediately. This wasn't what I expected. Up,
(34:03):
doesn't matter. You've already downloaded.
Speaker 1 (34:04):
You committed right now, A guy who owns every Poison
album on vinyl with Steve de Sager with what's trending?
I have no comeback for that. I got a little
bit the cat dragged in all right. I run up
and say, ah.
Speaker 6 (34:20):
You already had the sticks reference early in the show.
I think that took care of all our vinyl here.
I actually have all the Poison albums on vinyl. That's
me the Poison Podcast. There you go, Kansas City. You
won a thrilling NFL season opener over Baltimore twenty seven
to twenty. And you know, it was thrilling to see
Lamar Jackson with the scrambling and he had sixteen carries
one hundred and twenty two yards. But the man, the
(34:43):
man scrambled on twenty percent of his dropbacks tonight. Yeah,
that is the third highest rate for him in his
last four seasons. And how often do experts in this
sport say an NFL quarterback for all the athleticism, And
it's great to see that it's come into that position
in the NFL. At some point you're gonna have to
be a traditional quarterback and make a throw for your
(35:05):
team to win. And he flat missed an open receiver
in the end zone late in the game and they
lost twenty seven to twenty. And yes, Isaiah Likely on
the final play of the game had his toe out
of the back of the end zone what would have
been a touchdown reception. Ravens lose on the road. Likely
did have nine receptions one hundred eleven yards, but Baltimore
(35:28):
on red zone tds one for four, including zero for
two and gold to go situations. Chiefs rookie Xavier worried Worthy,
thank you very much. Buffalo Bills had two touchdowns twenty
one yard run in the first half and a thirty
five yard touchdown catch. Xavier Worthy had three touches in
this game. Three and Kansas City is one to zero
(35:50):
and the Chiefs today gave backup tight and Noah Gray
a three year extension. Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson was limited
in practice with calf tightness. Forty nine Ers running back
Ristin McCaffrey was limited with a calf injury. As for
the US Open women's semifinals were in New York tonight,
wins for Arena Sablenka and Jessica Pagula, two w NBA
games wins for New York and Washington. Alex Morgan is
(36:13):
retiring from soccer. Her final match will be Sunday night
with San Diego in San Diego. Tonight, Detroit stole one
from the Padres four to three on a grand Slam
with two outs in the ninth, so the Idol Dodgers
first place in the NLS now five games over the
Padres Diamondbacks five and a half back after Arizona gave
up a run bottom of the ninth losing three to
(36:33):
two at San Francisco. Colorado won at Atlanta three to one,
so the Mets, who are idle tonight but have won
seven in a row, are now tied with Atlanta for
the final NL wildcard spot. Phillies won their fifth straight
five to two at Miami.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O. Coming up next,
We got more from this game. If you think the
Isaiah likely touchdown is going to be the play the
Ravens ru the most, their Ravens woh anically done. That
is not gonna be the play that keeps everybody up
at night. What is we'll play it for you next
right here, Jason and Mike Fox Sports Radio. But Stan,
(37:09):
I did tell you to not start Mark Andrews. I
told you Isaiah likely would have a big night. Why
are you not my friend anymore? Stan? I said Isaiah
likely was gonna be the big tight end and Mark
Andrews time is over. Yeah, sent me back.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
Hey, I'm tell you you don't get to take a
lot of victory laps when you make as many predictions
as we do. I'm taking the Isaiah likely one because
it may end to night I don't know, but for tonight,
I look like I actually might know something.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
He is the only guy that's doing anything catching the
ball for the Ravens to two man game eight for
one oh seven and a touchdown. It's Stockton him alone. Lamarches. Yes,
they're both wearing the short shorts as well. Oh you know,
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens have the ball about a
minute left to go, they are near midfield. They trail
(38:00):
the Chiefs twenty seven to twenty. Lamar Jackson. In a
career of escapes, this has to rate among the top.
On a third and two, it looked like he was
sacked and dead to rights at least three times, and
instead he somehow squirts forth for about twelve yards to
give the Ravens a first down and they keep the
(38:22):
drive going. He's up to one hundred and twenty two
yards rushing to go along with two hundred and thirty
five yards passing and a touchdown. He is having a
phenomenal night. And I go back to what I said
earlier in the show. He is the best player on
the field tonight. And it's not close watching him. It's
almost like we're back to the days where it was
Lamar doing his thing. We're all standing around watching like
(38:44):
that's where and that's a compliment for him that it's
not great for the Ravens, but it's watching Lamar Jackson.
I feel like this is a week eight Week nine performance.
In Week one, Mahomes and the Chiefs look a little
bit rough. Running the ball is rough for both teams,
but Jackson is the one you would watch this game
and go man. I can see why why he's so good.
I can see why they're winning games the way they do.
(39:06):
I can see why he's the two time MVP. Because
this is Week one with not a lot of work
in the preseason, and here's the night he's at now
up near three hundred yards passing. Now he just completed
the pass for about forty yards down to about the
ten yard line. He's up at two seventy five a touchdown.
I mean it. He's the best player on the field
and Mahomes isn't even in shouting distance of him tonight.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
Now Coha presents fantastic finishes as we come up a
very long drawn out play. Now my guy likely hits
the board. He's holding his shoulder. This is not good.
As we get to ten seconds left, twenty seven to
twenty a bit of a time out here as medical
staff attends to him. But huge pass play to Bateman
(39:49):
to put them into striking range as you saw him
again buying time, and then the effortless throw down field.
Watching watching him play as it's it's always fun, right,
and you just say, why can't we find him on
top number one? You don't get DeVante Adams out of
out of Las Vegas. You wanted to make him a jet,
So I'll try to speak him somewhere else. We got
(40:12):
enough receivers in Chicago, at least for the moment.
Speaker 1 (40:15):
But you never know. You think you have enough to stop.
Suddenly after a couple of weeks, it's hey, we could
kind of use I said, just like the Dodgers' pictures.
We got like eight guys that can start games. What
kind of problems are we gonna have? Oh wait, right
now it's uh it's Flaherty and Gavin Stone and then
we don't have anybody else. Okay, all right, well that's
why I said, for now, meadhead, we'll figure out. But yeah,
(40:38):
watching him go just the and and he's going through
the progressions, there's nothing open, like nobody's breaking containment.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
Zay Flowers has been invisible here for a while, right,
he's been taken out. Derrick Henry had the rushing touchdown earlier. Uh,
and that was it, right, one or two big carries
for him. Obviously, that fourth down conversion was huge earlier.
That set up eventually the field goal to make it
twenty seven to twenty. But it's really just been a
(41:06):
one man wrecking crew. And this is the type of
game you expect in the middle of the season where
you've had some attrition, where you've had you know, maybe
your lines beat up or whatever, and like that's the
one thing for that's got to be driving Harbon nuts
is the lack of cohesion and continuity and communication on
that offensive line. There's been a lot of screaming, a
lot of yelling, a couple of lined up inappropriately right
(41:30):
and you're not on the line. They had that happen
back to back play. It happened again later on that
negated another play for a first down. So some some
growing pains here in week one.
Speaker 1 (41:41):
So here's where we sit right now. Isaia likely just
came off the field. There are ten seconds left in
the game and the Ravens have the ball on the
Chiefs ten yard line. It is second and goal. Lamar
Jackson and the Ravens need a touchdown obviously, and there
is a miscommunication and Lamar Jackson does not connect with
(42:02):
a wide open Za Flowers in the back of the
end zone. Flowers breaks open, and this is one of
the big, one of the few missteps tonight. He breaks
to an open area and Lamar Jackson throws the football
behind him like they like it was. It was a
bad pass by Lamar Jackson. Zay Flowers is wide. There's
no yeah.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
He found the ever increasing the coverage and was wide open.
Speaker 1 (42:25):
There's no defensive back within five yards either side. It
was an easy touchdown and Lamar Jackson overthrows him. So
it's gonna be an all or nothing play right now. Hey,
love the NFL Week one, five seconds left to go.
The Ravens with the ball from the ten yard line.
Lamar Jackson. It looks to the end zone and it
looks like he hits touchdowns. Likely they are likely back
(42:48):
in the game in the back of the end zone
as time expires. It is a touchdown and it looks
like John Harball wants to go for two. Come on, man,
give me the justin talk. Let's watch the replay. Isaiah
likely catches the ball, comes down. Ooh, I don't know
how much can we zoom in? Where's that thing they
(43:12):
do in cop movies? How do we get it all
the way in? Like Jack Bower when he would that's
what she said. It was like Jack Bower when say
in twenty four enhance. It looks like his toe might
be on the end. This may get overturned. Hey, you
like drama, keep it here? What is drama means? Next?
(43:32):
Fox
