(00:33):
talk radio should be. When VJ. Vernon Husky is playing
QB and Point God on the shows to night, we
have a killer show. And when I say a killer show,
I mean we've got a hell of a show line
up for you guys. Today. An NFL coach got fired today,
the Chiefs can't score more than twenty points. George is
down at home right now to Georgia Tech. NBA is popping,
College basketball is popping. There's so much going on in sports.
(00:55):
We just talked about the college football playoff last night.
There's gonna be a big shake up of that if
this Georgia Georgia Tech game keep saying to this, But
I would be remiss if I wasn't the normal host
that I am, and I love to introduce everybody that
helps the show become what it is. We're on the air,
it's not just us blowhards running our mouths talking about
sports and our silly, stupid opinions. We have a lot
of people in the background that I'm always blessed to
work with that help things go like a weld oil machine,
(01:18):
Steve the Sager, the best update man in the business.
For my dollar, will we bring you guys updates to
the bottom of the hour. And then also super producer
My Mayor Patrick aka Squeaks, Mister who you got is

Speaker 2 (01:40):

Speaker 1 (01:40):
You got me? I got you exactly, I got my
damn sof anyway, and then always on the ones and sues,
the baby says, the niece, the little cousin, the girl
next door. Everything that's good about a young lady. She
is our little baby Sister's Fox Sports Radio New to
the Family, Miss Mary Max in the building, Ah bam.
(02:02):
Now before I bring Arnie in, I told you before
the show, I won't gonna big brother you. But you
went out last night and when I asked you how
it was, you said A time was had. Ain't Now
I ain't like that. I'm gonna tell you right now,
I ain't give that big brother VJ. I'm like, hold
on versus. First of all, the hell is what what
(02:23):
was that? And then a time was had? That is
a large spectrum of things. But always lovely to have
you speak. I'm glad you had a good time last night.
What's up? Mama? Calling me out is so crazy on
on AIRA well, you call everybody out you work with start,
Yes you do, Yes, you do. So Welcome to the family.
This is how we do it, and that is always.
(02:43):
I think I've worked more with this gentleman other than Marion.
Weis's my normal Saturday part of your Here's tomorrow from
five to eight, eight to eleven on the East coast,
five to eight on the West coast. This steaking genius
mister sit in his car while other people shovel them
out and Miss the dessert himself, mister RNI spaying istinking genius.
Then tonight, what's up?
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Playoff, DJ, Let's go ahead, let's get out of it.
Look at everything that's going on, Everything that you mentioned.
Got my eye on the Georgia tech Georgia gave me
and watching that they are right now putting the world
or hurt on them. We'll see if they get the upset.
Good drive by Georgia to get back in this game
like that. The Lakers play tonight, So we got a
lot going on tonight.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Yeah, we do got a lot going on. We got
a lot going on on the show too, so let's
jump right into it. News of the day would have
been the NFL game, but let's just get real. It
was the Raiders and the Chiefs. You and I both
hit on with Bernie Friddle last night. We did not
think that the Chiefs will cover. We both took the
Raiders to cover along with Bernie Friddle. He doesn't like
double digit division leads, so that would have been the
least story today. But whenever an NFL head coach gets
(03:45):
FIAT in the middle of z ss N, that leads
most shows. The Chicago Bears today after a meeting with
their coach last night, had another meeting with him today,
and the meeting today it was pretty much, let me
get your fob key, let me get you played book,
let me get your parking pass and all of that
good stuff player, because yeah, here's your final check with
(04:05):
all the money we owe you. Bye bye. The Chicago
Bears have fired Matt Eberflus, which is a move most
people have been calling for, myself have been calling for
for the last year. I thought bringing in so called
generational number one overall pick Caleb Williams quarterback out a
usc by way of Oklahoma, I thought that was a
bad move. If you were gonna make a generational pick
(04:26):
at number one, start them fresh with a guy that
you know you're gonna have at least for the next
three years moving forward, not a lame duck coach. They
fired him today. We want to talk about their next
move some other names, but just the initial reaction from you,
mister Spaniard, What did you think when you first saw
that the Chicago Bears had told Matt Eberflus, thank you,
(04:49):
but ni thank you.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
No it It wasn't much of a surprise, I think,
right they were as upset as everything, as everybody else,
or as the Bears fan were, as the way that
game finished, so they couldn't make it anymore. Of course,
they botched up the firing because they let them go
ahead and do the press conference. Then they called them
up and then they fired them. But they they can't
even do that right. The whole thing's in the backle
(05:11):
Probably was, I mean, probably was gonna get fired at
the end of the year. Anyway. It's something they don't
like to do because it doesn't really serve a purpose
in firing somebody in the middle of the year, except
this time, maybe they can go after a Belichick or
maybe somebody that's available. Maybe they could start early if
if there's no tampering involved, that's a possibility. For what
(05:33):
it's worth, though, I think a lot of it comes
from frustration because of the way the game end and
the Bears just had nothing to forget about it. We're
gonna make a move, We'll just do it now. We
can't take it anymore.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
And speaking of you know, they don't normally do this.
I saw something today that I thought was very interesting
and very intriguing. In over one hundred years of the
Chicago Bears franchise history. This is the very first time
they have fire to coach within the season. They normally
(06:03):
will let you finish out which And I'll tell you this, Arnie,
I give a lot of respect to that. I do.
I give a lot of respect to that. And that's
because I'm a guy that's probably dated and stayed with
women way too long because I didn't want to break
I don't like breaking up. And I always think that
problems could be fixed. I'm a problem solver. Well you know,
I'm a solutions guy. We all know the problems. What's
the solutions? What are we gonna do to fix the problems?
(06:24):
And I think that it's always best to wait until
the years over. But now they can kind of get
their eye on guys, but they can't talk to anybody
just yet. I think a name like Ben Johnson, you
threw Belichick out there, I'm gonna stick to my guns.
As I said last year, I think Belichick is done
coaching in the NFL. I think, yeah, I do. With
the age, you know he's gonna want full power. Then
(06:45):
these are just things I've heard. These are things I've
heard when he was you know, a rumor with Atlanta
the commander some other teams. I was up there. I
know everybody's throwing Dallas out there. I think the Giant
job could be open if they just continue to fall
flat on their face. I think maybe that job could
be open, especially if they continue to get their asses
kicked away. They're not just losing, they're getting beat now.
(07:05):
They played tough yesterday. But Dallas doesn't have their quarterback either,
and that makes a big difference when you don't have
your signal caller. But I think Ben Johnson is a
name that's out there. It could be a college name
out there. There could be some other young wonder guy,
offensive minded guy that could also be out there. But
they're definitely gonna be in the hunt for a new coach.
And I want to throw this opinion out there too,
(07:26):
and I want to see what you think about this.
Last year, I got made fun of because I said
that if I were the Bears, I would have stayed
with Justin Phils. I would have stayed with Justin Phils
because you're going to fire Matt Eberflues anyway. With my
exact words, and said, you're gonna fire eber Flues anyway,
so you might as well. Just stay with Justin Field
(07:46):
one more year, I believe, is it free agent or
he can explore free agency after the season this last
year of his contract, and then if you decide to
go get another quarterback. Every year there's a quarterback in
the draft that we think is gonna be the guy. Right,
so there's gonna be more quarterbacks. You got yours, you
got cam Ward. There was a third guy that we
couldn't come up with last night. I remember you were
talking about his name, but I said I would have
(08:07):
stayed with Justin Phils and I would have drafted the great,
the best skill guy in the draft. And he showed
it today and that was Brock Bowers and I got
laughed at for that. I just want to point out
one thing to everybody that laughed at that. The Bears
have Kayla Williams, fine, but they now have to have
a new head coach. He's gonna be a second year
guy with another head coach, another offensive voice, another coacher,
another voice in the locker room, another temperament of the franchise. Okay,
(08:32):
and you're four and eight, you'd have been in the
same place or better if you'd have kept Justin Phils
and you would have had what is a true generational
person because he's showing it on the field, and Brock Bowers.
Trust me, I know there's plenty of people that are thinking, EJ,
you're crazy. Okay, well just tell me why I'm crazy.
Because they're not winning. They fired their coach and you
(08:52):
have to start all over pretty much next year. And
there's no lock that Caleb Williams is this generational guy.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
I like Fields, I do, but I still think the
Bears went in the right direction to Caleb Williams is
gonna end up being the much better quarterback. It was
the right move. It was just the wrong coach for
the situation. He's gonna, you know, right now, it may
look bad, but he's gonna go ahead and have a
new lease on life. He's gonna have a whole new offense,
something that's better. This offense was atrocious. I mean they
(09:24):
went what like twenty quarters without scoring. It's finally like
he gets the chains off the least offense, like, hey,
now I can throw deep, I can do whatever I want.
And then you know, you didn't have to worry about it.
So we'll see if the true Caleb Williams comes out
in the next couple of games, and how the offense
looks different. I think it's gonna be a good situation
(09:44):
for him. They'll get who they want, They'll have to
make sure it's the right pick, and we'll see where
it takes them. But it's only gonna be good things
for Caleb Williams.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Here's my beef about that hole. We want to blame
everybody else on the offense. As I said last night,
in any sport, not just football. Martin and I talked
about Victor winbin Yama right when he first started out
in summer league, and it didn't start so hot. We
weren't really trying to bang on him. We were just
banging on the people that said he was the highest prospect,
(10:14):
not just in basketball, in all of sports ever. So
that was over John Elway, if you remember what he
was like coming out of school. It was over Bo Jackson.
It was over Michael Jordan Michael. There was a good
story and a good line about when the Portland Trailblazers
had the number two pick coming out in the draft,
right and had the number two pick, and their jam
had called Bobby Knight. Bobby Knight had just coached Michael Jordan,
(10:37):
and I believe it was the Olympics, and he asked him,
he goes, who do I take at two?
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Man?
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Help me out. He goes, take Michael Jordan. He goes, yeah,
but we need a center. He said, yeah, So then
play Michael Jordan at center. Like it's huge, that's generational.
And it shows up the minute they step on the field,
the floor, the baseball diamond, what have you. It's not
hard to see. There's no real warm up to it.
But when I look at what Chicago's done offensively, okay,
(11:06):
seventeen to twenty one points, and this is preseing the
preseason at twenty one and thirty three eight and at
twenty seven. Oh wow, here we go. This looks great.
Regular season starts twenty four points against the Titans. They
beat them, thirteen against Houston, they lose sixteen against the Coach.
They lose twenty four against the Rams at home, they win,
thirty six at home against Carolina, they win. Then they
(11:27):
go thirty five against Jacksonville.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Other time.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
They know those teams are really really bad. Records sixty
to fifteen points and only let's remember, only nine points
leading up until the last draft against lys drafts drive
excuse me against the Washington Commanders, then nine points against Arizona,
three points against the Patriots, nineteen points against the Packers,
twenty seven points in the loss against against Minnesota, and
(11:50):
then twenty points yesterday. They if Caleb Williams is so generational,
stop blaming everybody else around him. You can't go score
points good enough to make the throws and and and
and and you know, go through your progressions and make
the plays. I just I just always pushed back on, Oh,
the play calling in it and man play call. It
wasn't great for the Dolphins last night. They're getting killed today.
(12:12):
For to It's still played well right to it still
made his throws over three hundred yards, two touchdowns, didn't
throw an interception, didn't turn the ball over like great players,
good to great players. They erase a lot of these
excuses that I'm hearing about, Kayla will Yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Think you're being a little harder when we were talking
about a rookie who's what like a lot being harsh.
I'll give you that, very hard and too. Baby doesn't
have to be a generational player. Maybe he's just gonna
be a good to a great quarterback. I mean, yeah,
maybe a lot of people were like, oh, this is
gonna be like a once in a lifetime thing. That's
kind of crazy because you've seen Tom Brady and you
(12:45):
know you're gonna tell me he's gonna be as good
as Tom Brady. That's that's asinine to me. I mean,
you've you've seen a lot of people fall short, and rightfully,
so he's He'll still be a good quarterback. He's just
not gonna live up to all those unrealistic expectations. And
and and you'll see about it. You'll see we'll all
see how much better he's for it with a new coach.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Right now, VJ, speaking of new coaches, Man, we're gonna
talk about coming up, who's next on the chopping block?
Something else I didn't put out there too already. I
have a big surprise for you. I have a great dude,
I have a great surprise. This is gonna be one
of the best surprises you've ever had in your radio career.
I promise you that I have a special guest that's
gonna join us at nine pm Pacific, that'll be midnight
Eastern time from the National Football League. For everybody, he's
(13:28):
gonna join us. We're gonna talk some football. We're gonna
talk a lot of football. If I tell you what
we're gonna talk about, it'll get too much of it away.
But that's all coming up at the nine o'clock hour.
We have so much to cover the night NBA. The
Lakers are going at at the night they need to
get away after a couple of bad losses. We got
Georgia down at home right now against Georgia Tech. So
much going on a scam Black Friday Show. Sitting in
(13:51):
for Jason Smith and for his best friend Mike Harmon,
Arnie Spanner, VJ verneh has getting big another funny when
we come back. I like chopping block and I like
new things. What NFL team will put their coach on
the chopping block and bringing somebody that's gonna bring in
new things. Arnie and I'll spin that around the block
when we come back, Arnie and VJ and for Jason
(14:11):
Smith and Mike Harmon. Foxsports Radio.
Speaker 3 (14:16):

the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio

Your damn right, is Arnie Spayner and VJ. Husk getting

Tire right dot com. We'll help you get there unmett selection,
free fast shipping, free road hazard protection, over ten thousand
recommend it installers, tire right dot com the way tirebars
(14:50):

I drive faster, I hit the corners. I'm telling you, man,
I'll be out there. Everybody out there, make sure you
go to tyride dot com. Get yourself some Yeah. Do

Speaker 5 (15:09):

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Might work? And though it probably is, I didn't have
my car and four wheel drive.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Ah yeah, And then sat in there and want and
let four people shovel you out. Arnie. Big hour coming up, man,
We're gonna talk some NBA stuff. We'll get into Anthony
Edward talking about Lebron and Browny in the lab.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
We have to get to the end of the Kansas
City game.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
Absolutely, we'll get it. Well, we'll we'll get to that.
But I like, honestly, I'll be honest with you that
that game we'll chat, we'll we'll touch it up and
talk on it. Man. But I didn't expect much for that.
We are, But that doesn't be looking.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
That is what bothers me. What bothers me is the
officials made a grave error.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
And what else is new? It's the Kansas City chief
game winning the Revs not screw up. Speaking of screwing up,
George is trying not to screw up right now, third
and nine, a minute thirteen, uh, right now, and they're
down twenty seven to twenty. There's a scramble by the
quarterback for first down. He might have gotten it. It looks
like you got the first down scrambling right there? Are
they gonna give it to him? Looks like they're gonna
(16:01):
get him first down. They're trying to tie this game.
Is a minute six left on his clock in Athens, Jordan,
but Georgia between the hedges right now, Carson Beck with
a scramble here man, and we'll see if they can
hold that on and don't screw this up. Just also
real quick man, just the reverb back to the coaches.
An associated moms Tashi up in the Fresnel areas listening.
(16:22):
She sent out a text message to me. She said,
please don't fire Mike Tomlin. She's a Steelers fan, she says,
she follows, she keeps over with them, and I think
I told her, I think you're safe. I don't think
the Steelers are gonna fire Mike Tomlin. He'll be able
to walk out of there whenever he wants to. Speaking
of walking out of somewhere when they want to. The
Minnesota Timberwolfs decided to make a move this past season.
(16:45):
Quick sidebar Georgia has now scored and they're an extra
point away from tying this game up. Dominic love it
with a three yard touchdown reception from Carson Beck, so
that game is now twenty seven to twenty six. To say,
girl have all of the final with that at the
bottom of the hour, that is a touchdown. As they're
showing to replay whether the ballbrooke the plan or not.
It did, but the Minnesota Tip Boys decided to make
(17:06):
a decision this past season, Arnie. They decided that they
were going to move on from their former franchise player
in Carl Anthony Towns and trade him to the New
York Nickobacus, and they were gonna essentially hand the franchise
to one Anthony Edwards, who a lot of people love.
He played great in the Olympics. He's had a great
early year, our early career in the NBA. High Flyer
(17:29):
added to us Jumpy this offseason seems to be taking
a lot more three pointers. But I tweeted about I
would say maybe about three weeks ago that they made
a change, and I'm pretty sure they expected within the
first twenty games to start better than nine and ten.
And I'm starting to kind of question and wonder his toughness,
(17:49):
wonder whether he's a franchise guy. I told him Martin
and ar Show, Martin and VJ, and I'll see if
you agree with this. This is the year we're gonna
find out it is he Dwayne Wade or is he
Brandon Roy. If you remember, Brandon Roy was a great score,
great perimeter guy, high flag. You know, dunk On, you
(18:10):
come from Portland, absolutely and I'm not talking about the injuries.
But I never once, never, once looked at Brandon Roy
and say, yo, he can win you a championship. Anthony
Edwards is supposed to be the guy. He's supposed to
be the guy who's going to take you to the
Promised Land. The question I will propose to you, missus
thinking genius did the Minnesota timb will just make a
mistake moving over corner of the towns this fast and
(18:31):
handing this franchise and a loaded Western Conference to Anthony Edwards.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Yeah. Well, if you've learned anything from the NBA, you
can't do it by yourself. It's a three superstar league
at least per team, otherwise you have no chance of
going far. At least two and some other guys that
will do your dirty work. And they don't have that.
After the Edwards is playing well. I mean, the guy's
averaging twenty eighth the game. What does he have to
(18:56):
do average thirty thirty two, thirty four.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
Every day, that's what it calls for.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
No, you can't do that much. Julius Randall actually has
played well, but unfortunately they don't have enough left a
round of them. I'm rudy Gobert, even though he scores
some double digits. Yeah, he's the defensive guy out there.
They have four or five guys that will give you
double digits. So it's not like it's, you know, things
are desperate. It's it's a five hundred team right now.
(19:22):
I think they'll go ahead and gel a little bit.
It's remember, they got two guys that are playing a
lot of minutes that are brand new, one in Julius Randalls,
so you gotta go, and one in de Vincenzo. So
it's gonna take a while for them to go ahead
and figure this whole thing out when they've been figure
it out fast.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Okay, And I know it's early. And like I said,
I'm just throwing this out there because I said last
year I listen. I like the guy, but I feel
like he was trying to create a character, like he
was trying to create an aura. I like organic. I
have always been that way in sports. Don't try to
make it be something, just let it happen organic. Give
(20:00):
you if you're funny, just naturally be funny at the mic.
If you're charismatic, just naturally be charismatic at the mic.
You don't have to try, and I thought he was
focused a little more on trying to build the name
for himself, for trying to build this image for himself
instead of letting it happen organically. And I'm a firm
believer when you do that, I think you kind of
affect your play. They're sitting at nine and ten. They're
(20:23):
the eleventh seed right now. Like, once again, it's early,
it's the first twenty games. This league moves fast, and
you know that they're only averaging a buck eleven and
they're giving up a buck ten, so they're not even
spreading himself apart. They're plus point nine point differential right now.
That's got a clean up. They have the spurs in
front of them, They have the suns in front of them.
I agree with him, though I'm sorry, Jump, but I
(20:44):
agree with him.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
I don't think the fans should have been booing them.
You know, it was just last year where they were
going pretty far in the year before that, and now
all of a sudden, through nineteen games, they're turning their
you know, they're turning their tide on them.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Okay, so let's go there. I sean of grav the
sound for that, and we got it. Will play for
you fabulous fans out there that are listening to Fox
Sports Radio Land. But listen, let's get real complaining, in
my opinion, complaining about fans bullying. Grow up, get with it, homeboy.
This is pro sports, this is pro ball. This is
the highest level in the world. Like in our business,
(21:17):
we got guys that love us, and we got people
that hate us. We got people that love what I say,
and I got people that can't stand me in the Oh,
how that guy get a show and how this guy
get them? Could you imagine me coming on the radio going, oh, man,
people from the East Coast bull you know, talking trash
about me on Twitter. Man, that's just that's just crazy. Man. No, bro,
you're supposed to be good at what you're doing. On
(21:39):
your level. There's always gonna be somebody that loves you
and hate you. I love I live by this percentage rule,
aren't he When you walk into a room, fifty percent
of the people in a room are already probably not
gonna like you, just off of your aura, your look,
your energy that disrupts people's demons. Okay, twenty five percent
of them are gonna fall in love with you the
minute they meet you the minute they lay the eyes
on you, and twenty five percent is undecided. My grandfather
(22:01):
and my dad always taught me you focus on the undecided.
It's like politicians, right, if you already know who's voting
for you, why are you going there? You need to
be going to the places where they don't know yet,
are they're undecided. That's where your focus needs to be.
So I'm never worried about who doesn't like me or
who doesn't like my opinions. I think pro athletes need
to really get off. These fans pay their money, they
(22:23):
want a good product. Hey we're both dolphin fans. I
can see you at a game booing. You take the
seasons over in August every year. So but you have
that right though, right, No, you do have that right.
I don't boo my teams. It really doesn't do anything
for me. I like to get on the other teams.
I think athletes now are too sensitive.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Hashtag Kevin Durant and there's a lot more like that
also with the burner accounts, and I'm sure there's some
way we haven't even caught and you just can't say anything.
Was they take it? So you know right to heart
they take it so sensitive, and especially in the market.
I'm not gonna say Minneapolis is a small market, but
certainly not New York or LA or anything like that.
(23:03):
And you know they're young kids. You're talking about what,
twenty four, twenty five, twenty six year olds, So I
can understand that. You know, VJ. You mentioned if somebody
on Twitter says VJ you're the worst talk show host ever,
you may laugh about it. You may go, oh, we
get a good laugh about it, or not even think
about it again. But if the boss said, you know,
BJ wasn't your best show, but you'll get them tomorrow,
(23:23):
whatn't ripping you? But that may really stick with you
for a while, even though we said it in a
nice way. And my whole point is the fans are
kind of like the bosses of these players in a way,
and that's why maybe they take it more to heart
that maybe that's the reason why.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
I'm not gonna lie. I like that analogy and I
like that example, but I mean, I'm gonna bury horror
with myself right now that myself on the back. I've
never had a I've never had a check signer, tell me,
wasn't your best show? I'm sorry. It's just a fact,
you know. They like they say it ain't bragging if
it's true, just like I'm sure you've probably never been zoned.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
No, but I mean if they do say that, yeah,
log it off. Yeah yeah you do. Long enough, you'll
hear plenty of that. Boy.
Speaker 5 (24:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
Well I've been man, well not as long as you
and some other people that I work with here. But no,
and I'm just joshing. Man, I'm my own worst critic.
I know when a point didn't hit, owing an opinion
didn't come out right, or when I didn't really hit
it like I wanted to, because I you know, we
get video. We record ourselves. I set my phone up
and uh and record ourselves. So but I never I
(24:23):
tell you this, I never. I never sound like this.
Here's mister Anthony Edwards complaining that the fans were booming.
Check this out.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
I did it right now when me and Mike was
talking about I think it's we soft as hell, like
a team internally, like you know what I mean, like
not to the other team, but like internally like we soft,
like we can't talk to each other. It's just a
bunch of little kids. It's just like we're playing with
a bunch of little kids. Like everybody, like the whole team,
we just can't talk to each other, you know, and
(24:52):
we got to figure it out, man, because we can't
go down this road.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Yeah, I'm not sure that sound was looking for. I
live for the bully thing. But I'll touch on that
real fast too. If if if y'all soft, who's the leader?
Who's the leader of the team. You're the leader of
the team. You're the leader of the team. That's like
a dad saying, man, I have such a disruptive house.
Uh well, pop, you better fix something. It's not up
to mom and damn short to the kids, it's up
(25:19):
to you dad. Everybody in this room has everybody new insult.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
The Dolphins are soft? Oh god, if you don't get
it under your soft, that's the that's the new hinde what.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
What what is that? Though, Arnie? Why are guys so
quick to say we're soft but not really give the
example of being like, if I call somebody soft, I
got examples of why you're saft.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
When they they're probably like they're probably could play like, hey,
you know we what there's no more cheeseburgers left on
our private flight out there, are you? You know, he's
a pasta salad. These six degrees it's supposed to be
sixty seventh degrees of the year, you know, doing stuff
like that. Maybe they're talking about with the Dolphins brought
(26:07):
like ten thousand dollars or one hundred thousand dollars worth
of coach to Green Bay and they're acting soft. I'm
not sure what it means. It means different things to
different players out there. I just know it's kind of
like it insulted. They're trying to go ahead and get
their team all riled up.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Really yeah, I'm listen if you want to get your
team riled up. And this is why I loved Kobe,
This is why I love Jordan, this is why I
love Dan Marine on Isaiah Thomas and the guys that
I love to my heart and soul. And just a
quick sidebar for our fans that are listening right now.
Twenty seven twenty seven, fourth and one seven seconds left.
Georgia Tech has the football. I'm trying to see where
(26:43):
it is. I did just see her cross on the
forty five. Okay, so there the forty six, So this
would be a fifty three, right, correct, fifty sixty, sixty three,
sixty three. Oh no, that's twenty yards then, aren't you
know seventeen yards? It's seventeen seventeen, so what's sixty so
it'd be a sixty fo oh yeah, maybe sixty one
right now from where they lined up at. So we'll
try to keep you guys updated on this. They're gonna
(27:05):
snap on fourth and one right now, seven seconds. Georgia
Tech has a time out, So I think if they
get the first, they can get a time out. I
think Georgia just took a time out right now and
spent their second. They now have one left. Georgia trying
to solidify themselves into the College Football Playoff and be
one of those at large teams going in there. But
just to put a ball on this whole thing about softness,
(27:27):
and this is why I like certain guys that are
just named you just you don't have to call yourself soft.
You could just say. Remember when Kobe Bryant the Lakers
got eliminated in Game six by thirty six points to
the Boston Celtics. He said at that podium and he
said we got to get tougher. We knew who he
was talking about. He was talking about gasol, and he
was talking about buying because they got pumped by big
ticket Kevin Garnett and a guy named Leo and Poe.
(27:48):
Remember when Phil Jackson mispronounced his name on person and
called him Poo, just to kind of send a message like, Hey,
we don't even know who this guy is, and this
guy's out here getting rebounds all over us and Kendrick
Perkins and Kobe sat there. We gotta get tougher. I
could take that. But to call oh we we soft, well, dude,
you're the leader. You're the leader, so that means you're
soft too. It's wordying. I'm big about wording. You know,
(28:11):
all our parents and grandparents always told us, Arnie, it's
not what you say, but how you Maybe.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Maybe we'll get the team pumped up, get them going,
and that's what usually you know, that's why usually you
say stuff like this. I mean, look at Minnesota. It's
goulda take a while. Like I said, two new players
getting a lot of minutes. I think it will turn
around for him. I'm not ready to jump ship.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
Yeah, I was already off the ship, and I hope
I'm not. We're gonna stay on this you and I
probably do some more shows around Christmas in the new year.
We'll definitely touch back in and this something else will
touch back on when we come about and it's them
that's soft. Speaking of Salt, there is a franchise. I say,
I thought that was one of the strongest franchises in
all of the National Basketball Association. They've seem to have
gone a little soft over the last or no seven
(28:52):
eight years since a certain person land is private Jet

Sporting News Rookie of the Year in nineteen ninety. He
was the ninth overall pick from Texas A and M

Dan Marino, the greatest peer passer in NFL history. This

(32:00):
what's going on, big buddy?
Speaker 5 (32:02):
Hey Jake? What's up? Brother Arnie? How y'all doing?
Speaker 2 (32:05):
Hey rich Rittan, thanks for joining us. I love it.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
I told you, Arnie, I had a surprise for you, baby.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
I love it. I love it absolutely.
Speaker 1 (32:12):
I knew you had a surprise, Richmond. How's the family,
Let's start there. How's your lovely family, lovely wife? Man?
How was the Thanksgiving? Man?
Speaker 5 (32:20):
Thanksgiving was good? Family is good? All that? How's your son?
You know that's my main man.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
I know that's your dog.
Speaker 5 (32:28):
And before I forget man, we hadn't chopped it up
in a wild but congratulations on Michigan winning the National championship.
We ain't chopped it up in a while, but I
know you're a huge Michigan fan.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Thank you so much. I appreciate you, brother. I drunk
two bottles of the quila and a bottle champagne that night.
You would have thought I was part of the damn team.
And I feel like Richmond, you know me, you know
how crazy my mind is. I feel like I'm part
of some of my favorite teams. Like I feel like
I'm part of the Dolphins. I don't know how you are.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
Don't hear that out there, may because there's a former
Miami Dolphin telling me that I'm part of the Miami Dolphins. Man, Now,
you went to a high school football game tonight out
there in Texas. That's big time out there. Who'd you
go see how the game play out?
Speaker 5 (33:11):
I went to go see Columbus High School versus Yokama's
two small countrytown teams. Okay, the game was was it
fifty six to forty two something? It was like, yeah,
it was. It was crazy.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
Okay, so I guess nobody knew there was playing defense.
Then I no problem, not at all.
Speaker 5 (33:32):
I got home in time to see the overtime with
Georgia and Georgia Tech. That game just ended Georgia one
from forty two to forty. But wow, that's crazy. And
Georgia Tech let him slip away.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
They did Dan had this game. They had this game.
Speaker 5 (33:47):
Man.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
So so let's start with last night. Man. You and
I we talk a lot, We talk a lot of
Dolphin football. Of course, last night they going to Labo
and uh and uh, you know, and drop one. It
was one of my question mark games last week leading
into the season as far as I mean leading into
this stretch of the season, is this game and then
there is a road game at the Texans. I think
they'll take out the bump ass just both times. I
(34:08):
think they could beat the Browns and they could beat
the Niners. But just for what you saw last night,
where do you see this Dolphin team moving towards the
end of this last stretch? And do you think we
can make a playoff run to getting the plaoffs?
Speaker 5 (34:20):
I think the playoffs is gonna be really tough. If
we could have won this game, I would have felt
much better. But we have no room for margin the era,
and I believe that we might need a little help
just to get in there. Bet. Speaking of last night,
I just think it took them. We dug too deep
of a hole too quick, and you can't do that
(34:42):
on the road and against a Green Bay team that's
you know that's a really good team. I was looking
at it last night, and you know, you got Detroit
Minnesota and Green Bay and green Bay sitting at third
with three losses. Minnesota's got two and Detroit Lions got
so that's probably one of the tougher divisions in the
(35:03):
NFL right now. So I know they were gonna be
a familiar opponent, and I know that they had a
really good team. Jordan love good quarterback stuff like that,
and going to Lambo is always tough playing there, so
I know we're gonna be an easy seat. But when
I saw must the punt and they recovered it early
in the game, I was like, we can't keep making
(35:24):
mistakes like this because it's hard to dig out of
a hole like that.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
Oh, absolutely, Richard, which is easier to block for. Obviously
you're blocked for Dan Marino, but he was a statue
back there. What about a running quarterback? How tough is
it for somebody to go ahead and block for somebody
like that.
Speaker 5 (35:40):
I think it's you know, it's two different styles, but
longess is effective. You know, if you got a you know,
a Lamar Jackson or somebody like that, you just try
to stick with your man on your assignment. You're not
gonna know where he is all the time. But he
had such big playability, not only with throwing the football,
(36:00):
but making plays with his legs and you know, running
the football a lot of times that can really frustrate
defenses and keep change moving. But like you said, Dan
was a statue, but you couldn't get to him. And
if he tried the blitz and he would make you pay.
And if he sat back and gave him too much time,
he was gonna make you paid. So you just had
to pick your poison. So it just depends on the
(36:22):
type of quarterback you're blocking for, and you just do
your best. If you're trying to look and see what's
going on behind you, you sure enough gonna be in trouble.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
Well, the reason why a lot of people couldn't get
to him was too gentleman by the name of Richmond
Webb and Keith Simms. That's for damn sure. There's a
reason why nobody could get to him. But something else
that's coming out of game last night. I didn't like it.
You have Brooks calling him soft, and I'm never one.
If you want to say, listen, we gotta get tougher
as a team. We gotta, you know, we gotta you know,
buckle down, anchor down, hatch it down, however you want
(36:52):
to describe it. But when a guy's like, oh yeah,
we're soft, we played soft, I think the elements came
into it. Well, brother, you're on the defense that missed
twenty two tackles. You're part of that. When you hear
something like that, are you a fan of that? And
do you think that the Dolphins, this Dolphin's current team
is soft and needs to get toughered.
Speaker 5 (37:10):
No. I don't like when players do that because you're
saying everybody, you're including everybody, and that's all inclusive, and
that's never the case when you have a great game.
You can have a great game, great win, and everybody's
not gonna play well, and vice versa. You can have
a really bad game, but some guys play well, even
(37:31):
though overall as a team we didn't play well. But
individually you do. And a lot of time, all it
does is separate the locker room. And I know he's frustrated,
but it's the other guy's frustrated as well. But this
doesn't help the calls by, you know, calling out everybody
saying we're softed. If you felt that way, I feel
(37:53):
like you've been feeling that way, not just from last night,
You're feeling that way for a while. And you know
it's different factors. You got to look at bit, you
got to be real careful when you just finished the
game and you hadn't had an opportunity to look at
the film yourself, because the first thing I want to
do is look at the film and say, Okay, a
(38:14):
lot of times you think you don't play that well,
but actually even play as bad as you thought. And
then something you think you really play well, you'd be like, man,
it's a few other things that I could have done well.
But you going by what you kind of remember in
your head, Bitch, you're trying to go through seventy play
You can't do that until you watch the film. And
that's why I just think he kind of jumped the
(38:34):
gun a little bit. And if you're gonna address that,
address your play in yourself and then or like you say,
you know we as a team, but when you say no,
we just soft and this and that, I'm like, no, no,
that I don't like that at all. I didn't rich Ford.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Let me ask you this. You know, you're in Miami
for ten years. After practice, after one game, you go
down to the beach. You have my tie. It's December,
hit seventy two degrees. The following week you got to
go to Green Bay and all you guys are complaining
you're freezing. You're like, what can I get? How tough
is it to play in that type of weather?
Speaker 3 (39:10):
It is?
Speaker 5 (39:11):
I think that. I think the thing you gotta you gotta,
you gotta make up in your head is you already
know it's gonna be cold, but you got to really
focus in on your assignments and try to keep the
change moving if you can kind of get the game
going and get the offense moving and stuff like that.
You don't sit there and just focus on it's cold,
because when you get to the sideline, you either put
(39:33):
the jacket on. You got heated benches. You know, you
can stick your feet in there and warm them up
if it's if it's cold, but you're actually moving around
when you're out on the field that if you can.
If all you're thinking about is is cold, you're done
before the game is over. I'm not saying guys done
that bit. Just it's just a mentality you gotta kind
(39:54):
of develop and say, hell, it's cold. I already know
it's cold. I got to go out here and play anyway,
so don't try to put too much on it. I
just had sometime I would go out for pregame and
you know, you warm up, but if you put too
much stuff on, I didn't feel right, like I felt
heavy even though I wasn't. Or you said, Okay, I
need to take some of this stuff off. So you
(40:15):
just try to balance it out. But most of the
time you're gonna make it through and it's not that bad,
but it's just a mindset, and you just every guy's
got to do it individual that. Some guys they just can't,
you know what I'm saying. Some guys deal with it
better than better than others. That's how I can tell you.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
Yep, uh rich Man, you you were definitely, you know,
a tough guy. You weren't soft at all. Stat I
love here and I brought this up to you when
we used to do my old show. Eight of your
thirteen years, you were a sixteen sixteen guy, and at
one point you did it seven straight years, and then
there were three years you were fourteen you know, you
missed a couple of games. You started fourteen guys like
(40:53):
you had. I always say the best ability in sports
is availability. When you see certain guys kind of hurt,
missing games of that nature, just talk to a guy
like yourself who is a finalist. Finally, and it's and
it's long overdue for you to get elected into the
Hall of Fame Pro Football Hall of Fame in twenty five.
But looking at the league today as opposed to the
(41:15):
league that you played in, I'm not going to ask
you whether you like it or not, because I know
it's a fraternity of brothers, but just the differenceness of toughness.
Do you see that there is? That's something that's overblown
from blowhards on radio, on TV like us.
Speaker 5 (41:30):
No, it's a different game now, and I think you
kind of see it trickle down even throughout o'ttic basketball.
I ain't gonna say all sports, but I know I've
seen the difference in the shift in basketball. It's not
as physically as it was in the nineties, when you know,
you actually had five guys out there, but the positions
(41:52):
were more defined. I mean, you got guys that were
some foots that can bring the ball up and shoot
the three. You know, before you used to have opposed
power forward, small forward, shooting, garden point guard. Now it's
almost like everybody can just interchangeable and that that wasn't
the case back then. And you know, you bring up
(42:14):
a good point. But I think with the NFL and
stuff like that, now it's such a push on safety,
the concussion and all that, so they really took a
lot of the hitting out of it. I think during
the season only have leven paddy practices maybe leven and
(42:34):
and they don't even do to a days. I was
about to say to days, but you know, one of
their practices. So it's changed tremendously. Uh. And even as
a physicality, it used to be if siever was running
a route across the mills, whether he caught the ball
or not, he was going to get hit. It was
a way of intimidating or sometime change the whole minimum
(42:56):
minimum of a game. If you know, you can't cross
the mill and they later got out and they had
to take him out a lot of time, that would
affect the whole attitude of the team you were playing against.
And so it was an intimidation thing that we had
to play with and deal with, and like you said,
even if you were hurting Nick and you kind of
found a way to do, you know, buckle up and
(43:19):
just say, hey, I gotta gut it out and do
this and that. But now it's it's been change. So
I don't necessarily fault all guys because they're just playing
within the parameters of what the league is allowing or
not allowing them to do. So I will say it
is a change, is different than when I played.
Speaker 2 (43:40):
Yeah, Richard, I gotta ask you, did I see you
in a highwight a couple of days ago the thirty
year anniversary of the Dan Marino fake spike? Where were
you on the offensive light? What did Dan say? What
do you say, I'm gonna fake it? I'm not gonna
Did you know what he was doing for crying out loud?
Speaker 5 (43:57):
You know, bro, I will tell you you know story
behind that because you see the play and they and
they say, yeah, even the line didn't block anybody. So
normally in the clock play, you know, he gets the
ball and just fakes it in the ground. But he
faked it and so when we threw a touchdown. That's
why if you watch it you see the line react,
offensive line react like you know, we're not blocking them,
(44:20):
and then all of a sudden, we're kind of like
reacting because now the D line is trying to, you know,
rush again. I'm like, what are you doing? So it's
just that's a reaction. So after the game I went
up to I was like, man, why y'all didn't tell
us that's what y'all doing? And they said, oh, if
we would have told y'all, y'all would have screwed it up.
(44:43):
I was happy we got the touchdown. I said, hold up, man,
you can't. You can't be handling me and my boys.
You got to do us a little bit more love
than that.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
You had no idea what's coming?
Speaker 1 (44:54):
Huh?
Speaker 5 (44:55):
Yeah, you know we got an image de hole, you know,
big man. You know we want looked crazy out there
on the field.
Speaker 1 (45:01):
Either.
Speaker 5 (45:01):
It's like I think, man, I said, okay, you you got,
you got, we got to touch down, we got the win.
I ain't gonna switch too hard on that, but yeah,
I wasn't happy about that.
Speaker 1 (45:11):
A couple of quick ones, richmondfore you lead to get
out of here.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
You know.
Speaker 1 (45:13):
I was always like, the ask you a fun question.
The most the guy you were most hyped up to play.
What d N just did it for you?
Speaker 3 (45:21):
Man?
Speaker 1 (45:21):
You knew when you was facing that guy, you better
eat your weedies, you better do your push ups, you
better drink your prot shirt, you better be locked in
for that game. Who was it for you? Man?
Speaker 5 (45:30):
Oh, that's an easy one. That's an easy one, bro.
That's that's Bruce Smith. Bruce Smith, Bruce Smith. And you
know everybody always talks about the two hundred sacks, and
you know he was a great pass rushing, but he
played the run, you know, trying to cut him off,
trying to reach block him. It was like, no matter
what the play was, you was gonna have hell. And
(45:52):
wasn't no one you could take off, and uh, you
just know it's gonna be sixty minutes of hell. But
that's the toughest guy that I had to play against.
And sometime we faced them two for sure, and sometimes
three in the playoffs. So yeah, that's that's the easy one.
I don't even have to think about that one right there, Richmond.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
I wanted to be was. I know you were a
top ten pick. A lot of people don't know that.
How long did it take you to get up to
speed and really feel confident in the NFL. How long
should we be giving these quarterbacks like Cagle Williams. What
would you be telling Kleb Williams right now if you
could sit down and talk with him, the quarterback for
the Bears.
Speaker 5 (46:28):
Yeah, I'll just part A first and then I'll go
to Part B. When I came in I think the
thing that truly helped me was I got in camp early.
I had a great offensive line coach because me and
Keith came from like option style programs Texas A and M,
(46:49):
and I was stayed at the top, so we had
to go from one extreme to the other one to
throwing the ball, you know, eighty eighty five percent of
the time. So he worked with us in the two
point stands, getting us ready. So we played all of preseason,
we got all those reps, plus we got reps two
a days in train camps. So it was like we
was on a crash course. But I think playing all
(47:11):
those games, those preseason games and getting all the reps,
and the good thing was the two guys that were starting,
they were they were holding out for contract to go.
You know, they were trying to get their contract Redne
and so we got all those reps and I think
that really helped speed up the process to where we
were able to make the adjustment quick. I think the
thing that I don't like now is even with these quarterbacks,
(47:37):
I think some of them they play them too early,
they don't give them sometimes. I think some guys need
to sit that it just depends on the organization, what
the need is this and that that. If you were
a top five pick, they'll just throw you out there
and then when it doesn't work out, they don't try
to develop the player all the time. They just cut
(47:58):
them and say we're just grab another quarterback. So I
don't like that aspect of it because I think sometimes
you got to figure out what a guy does well,
put him in the best positions, and maximize what he
really does well, rather than just throwing him in an
offensive system and saying this is what we run and
you know, you adjust to it this and that. So
(48:18):
I think a lot of times there's not enough time
to really work on developing and getting them to become
a really good quarterback. So it just depends on the situation.
It's not everyone, but with Caleb Williams, I definitely tell
him to look, bro, you already knew the situation came in.
It's the reason Chicago had the number one pick. So
(48:42):
you know, it's some things that's got to get fixed.
It's not gonna get fixed overnight. But continue to work,
you know, get with one of these quarterback trainers or something,
you know in the off season and continue to hone
your crafts and you know, hey, you're probably gonna be
there for a while, so you got to It's a
game like that. And I think he does it. I
(49:03):
think he'll be Okay.
Speaker 1 (49:04):
We appreciate you, Richmond. We got to get out of
here and pay some bills. I love you, brother, God
blessed to you and your family. Great stuff, great conversation. Man,
Thank you so much for jumping in and doing this
for me. I love you brother. That man.
Speaker 5 (49:16):
Love y'all too. Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (49:18):
All right, that's Richmond Web for Miami Dolphin. He'll be
up for the Hall of Fame. We got to jump
out of here. We ran over a little bit right there.
