This is the best of The Jason Smith Show with
Mike Harmon on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
I think my favorite part of the open might be
the music. I gotta say, y Ricky though, is an
awesome job. Either that or or Danoike saying I'll look
that up for you. I look that up for it.
Welcome to the show. Yeah, the Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon live from the Tirac dot
Com Studios tirect dot com. I hope you get there.
(00:51):
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Direct dot Com is
the way higher buying should be. Well yeah, no, it's
been almost it's been about twenty hours now, and I
may or may not be feuding with jj Reddick. I
still don't know. Well, I still don't know. I don't
(01:12):
know if I'm feuding with him.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Yeah, I mean, he hasn't been posting on x in
a while, so my attempt to draw him out and
you just see like to have the conversation yesterday.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Yeah, as you heard, he's not a big fan of Twitter.
Now let's set you up because this happened late in
the show last night. It's absolutely incredible. So last night
Lakers win Luka Doncic's big, big debut with the Lakers
goes like a score one hundred and thirty points, and
a friend of the show, Dan Waki, Lakers insider, was
asking JJ Redick a question at his postgame press conference
(01:42):
about a topic that maybe JJ Redick didn't want to answer.
Kind of sounded like Dan was going to ask him, Hey,
people have said this on Reddit or whatever, and JJ
didn't want to answer the question. And this is how
we got to where we are with potentially me feuding
with JJ Redick.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
There was I think I know how much you love
there bas questions, but there was a notion after the
lucatrade that.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
Is coming from something on Twitter. I'm not going to know,
not at all.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
It is coming from from real people, from your general
manager among them, which was like, this was about the
next ten Jason Smith one nine eight, hold on, let
me look for it. I just want to make sure
because I'm not going to respond to Jason.
Speaker 6 (02:19):
I understand.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
So you know, after having twenty hours to think about it,
I think he's absolutely shading me, trying to on that
I won four six eight at how about a frescat
It's one of the best Twitter handle. You can love me,
hate me, and he hasn't even met me to hate me.
I mean you you got to meet me at least
a little bit to know. Oh I can't stand that guy,
but get the Twitter handle because I take a lot
(02:41):
of pride in my Twitter handle. How about a Fresca's
pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Yeah, I'll tell you take love hate however you're joining
us on the show JJ or other luminaries across LA. Uh, look,
just just evangelize. Just make sure you get the handle right,
that's all, and get all respect. I mean because look this,
this helps in the national profile when you've got a
coach of JJ Reddick's ilk because at this point everybody's saying, wow,
(03:07):
he's actually done a better job than I could have expected.
So good job on you, JJ. Then really, well, here's
the taking care of business and that's great?
Speaker 7 (03:14):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Going? Going back to that said, okay, let let me
do some research on this thing here now, because this
happened last night. My friends are tech friends I haven't
heard from in like like close to a year that
all live in LA are like, dude, is he talking
because his post game was televised on Special and everything,
and I was like, dude, is he talking? Like? Oh hey,
nice the time I haven't talked to you in a while. Yeah, okay,
what do you want me to ask him? Next time
(03:35):
I talked to him? So I look at he says, Okay,
he's upset about Twitter. All right, fine, And I remember,
you know, talking about and I'm thinking back to, okay,
the genesis of Reddick getting the job and then the Lakers,
and I remember the you know, getting in. Hey, here
he is jumping from being a fourth grade basketball coach
into the Lakers. He's their second choice, and you know,
is this how much is this made to win? The
Lakers are going to spin their wheels? What kind of
(03:57):
impact is he really going to have? He's friends with Lebron,
they do podcasts together. The Lakers started out and they
were just meandering, and I said many times, this is
kind of who the Lakers are, right. They are a
team that just is going to continue to do the
same thing year after year. And then they make the
incredible trade. They may actually made two trades, but one
guy one got canceled, but they make the huge trade
(04:18):
for Luca and now here's all this new energy and
here they are. And after that happened, I said, you know,
the Lakers have found a way in such a short
amount of time to make a couple of big deal
when we're moving on from D'Angelo Russell, to turn themselves
into a team that can challenge for the championship. I'm like, okay,
so I said, I'm I'm like, okay, I got it.
I remember what I said. But I said, you know,
he actually mentioned Twitter. I'm like, okay, exmember, I was
(04:38):
critical of Reddick and then, but you know, as things happen,
I don't ignore what's going on. I can't say they
have won twelve games in a row. They still stink
like I can't ignore that. Unless it's Sam Darnold twelve
games row, it doesn't matter. They stink they stink. Can't
do that, can't do that. So I'm like, okay, So
I go back and I look at Twitter, and I
go ball the way back and I search myself and
Reddick and all this. I look and I go, oh, wow, man,
(04:59):
I killed him. Oh no, no, it was it was pretty cool.
I just know a lot of it was funny. No,
a lot of it is funny. And I'm making and really,
because I do the show for people. I don't do
the show for the people who are playing the sport.
I do it for the show people listening. If people
playing listen, that's great. But I do the show for
everybody who listens every single night because this is kind
of what it is. And I don't have to worry
(05:19):
about careering favor with any athletes and saying something. That's
the thing you can do is be fair. So I
thought I was now now Twitter, I'll look out of
go oh yeah that was funny. Oh no, that was funny.
But wow yeah, oh that was really funny too. Oh wow?
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Man.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Yeah. But oh yeah, okay, yeah, oh okay, okay, okay,
So on Twitter, yeah yeah, so behind, but let's let's
pull the curtain back for a moment.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Generally as things go, you've got your note that and
what's you know going around and bouncing around your brain
over the course of the day is news, information, press
conferences and all of those things go on, and then
you put it out to Frostburg or in this case
Ryan Bursch today and myself, and you know, we'd band
(06:03):
it kind of kicking around a little bit, right. Maybe
if there's something new information, I'll fire back in, but
you have your points, you start, and then as I
allow me to retort, you will go to Twitter with
an encapsulation of what you've said. And there's usually a
very big difference, you know, some percentage from the initial
(06:27):
note to the time you roll in and we get
on air after the odd couple signs off and we
we take our place here in the Fox Sports Radio studios.
You've changed your mind a little bit, maybe you've come
at it from a different angle, but either way, as
I respond, you will hit Twitter and be and here's
your encapsulation of your first points. Sure, and sometimes look
(06:50):
as folks read into things that we say, and it's Twitter, right,
there's no you know, ability to put a font to
talk about snarkiness or smartiness or being a smart ass.
Twitter is however you take it, and if you're in
the wrong frame of mind, maybe you're having a bad day,
(07:12):
as JJ Reddick has certainly had a number of those
earlier in the season. Like they're on a nice little run.
Now we've talked about it. Yesterday, ninety plus points, six
straight games after three quarters, Luca comes in, all the
good feeling Lebron except for that day he took off,
and even then Austin Reeves picked up in that Saturday game.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
All of that to say that.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
You're gonna find some folks that take issue with things
you say in the Twitter verse and certainly across the
great Fox Sports radio landscape. We have four hundred affiliates nationwide,
including a lot of time Hi guys, AM five seventy
LA Sports. So if you're in your car going to
a place, going to a restaurant, coming home from a game,
(07:57):
guess what you find us. And we don't mince words
because we're not there, like we're not here to kiss
their asses. Like we call it as we see it,
and we move through. If you don't like it, that's fine,
you can come into the We got extra microphones in
the studio you're all going to come in and fight
with us.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
I got no problem with that. No, but I think
I figured out the way to really make this come
to a head. Okay, if if he's b thing with me,
let's let let let's solve this the right way. You
want to do it, eight mile style.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
I mean you're gonna go, Papa don I'm not gonna
sit here and go desperate.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Well, if you want to call into the show and
we'll be on my podcast, no, no, I I'll do
it like this three point shooting contest. Okay, Okay, he
shoots real basketballs in a real gym, and I play
on WE on WE because I think that's a pretty
good Papa shot. No no, no, no, no, Papa shot. No no,
no we WE. I'm on WE. Okay, I'm in my
(08:49):
fifty I'm on Digital Smith. Oh yeah. So it's him
actually shooting shooting in a gym versus me shooting on WE. Okay,
So and then and then we figure out we do
the same thing just like in the UH in the
three point shooting contest where you start at one rack
with all the way around and you see how many
you make, you know, moneyball, and we get a moneyball. Yeah, yeah,
(09:09):
and that's why. I mean, he shoots there and I
shoot on wei and I think that's fair. Okay, he's
at one end of the court does this thing. I'm
with the other end of the court with the with
the big uh the scoreboard in front of me. And
that's how I got it. Gouty good. No, it's good.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Yeah, in the end, it's it's it's a fun little inclusion.
I do appreciate that it is off a Dan Wiki question.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Yeah. Sure. So friend did the show, longtime friend of ours,
and we called, hey, you got to come on the shows,
and I tell me why you didn't defend me to
JJ Redick, and so I looked it up for you.
But he's actually flying back. Uh, he's in the air now,
so we can't come on the show too. So we'll
find him tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Yeah, well Thursday or whatever the next opportunity is. Well,
we'll certainly get back with Dan Wiki on that. I'm
a little upset about that he didn't defend me. And
Jason Smith's a good dude. I go on the show
all the time. Him and Harmon, they're great.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Yeah. Jason Smith one four six four two eight six
seven five three oh nine. No, not in on it. No,
it would have been It would have been fun to
be defended.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
They're going, hey, those guys there are a couple of knuckleheads,
but they get the job done. I mean, Jay Glazer's
defended us against you know, rage in the plass.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (10:11):
You know.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Buker has told us that he wouldn't he would never
tell us who it was. He goes, but a really
big the personnel GM type in the NBA listens to
us and said to him, hey, listen, when you go
on with those two knuckleheads every week, it's kind of fun.
I'm like, who is that? I can't tell you that. No,
I can't tell you.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
I can't tell you.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
But like we know that between Glazier and Buker and
and clearly.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Now Dan WOITK, you can't tell you. We've been able
to find out there's a lot of big shots that
listen to what we do here. We appreciate keep evangelizing.
So I would say I'm about seventy five percent that
I'm feuding with j J one percent.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Percent.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Yeah, that's not made up.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
Okayhead is complete, either from Twitter or something that he's
heard us say. After a big meltdown game or you know,
lack of close out efforts. There's probably a couple of
games we can find very specifically if we went back
into the annals of history here since he took over
as coach, where we really lit them up. Yeah, lack
(11:10):
of effort, and then he probably heard that and got salty,
and you know, well, here's where I'm if that's motivation. Look, however,
you get your motivation, if that's what's got you on
this tremendous run, I just want to ring at the.
Speaker 1 (11:22):
End of it. Okay, all right, Well, because the Rams
still owe us one, yeah, I mean seriously, yeah they do,
they really. I mean, we have gone from getting the
Rams a super Bowl ring because you know, Derek Dickerson
coming on our show got Jeff Fisher fired. Sean mcvayhard.
I don't think we've ever used the dump button as
often as we did. Now the Lakers win, it's gonna
be suddenly, but we helped get them a ring, so
we get a bad Well has anybody? I mean, I
(11:43):
would love to have a picture with that, like with
a super Bowl ring end and in uh and and
an NBA time's awesome, man. Then we jump to the
Major League Baseball. Then we get high, they will start
getting paid. Hey wait a minute, Okay, we saw you
do this. Now major League Baseball team's gonna say we
need you to jump in and do this one.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
No, this is good. Actually it's good. I mean you're
I mean you got the Mets. I mean because they're
gonna be one of the favorites in the National League
and they're not gonna be done like, they'll make some
moves as the season goes on.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Oh but if you got no at this point, you
got to pay us. Like it's okay, not being the Mets,
it could be anybody like, well, will help, I'll help.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
Anybody consulting fees. Yeah, you know, there's a lot of
money to be had.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
No.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Absolutely, Now. The only reason I put at seventy five
percent is because uh jj Reddick jumped around a lot
in his great start out with Orlando, had had really
good career that was with the Sixers and jumped around.
He was with Orlando again, and then he was at
New Orleans and Philadelphia again, and I'm pretty sure that
he probably crossed pass with Jason Smith, the basketball player
(12:39):
who played right around the same time he did. Show. Yeah, yeah,
and and many other teams. Yeah, he was also with
the Sixers, and he's with New Orleans and he was
with Washington. So I'm wondering if maybe they were friends
and maybe this Jason, the Jason Smith who played basketball,
said something through someone on social media. I'm met at
the Jason Smith who's the basketball ja Smith, the radio dude.
(13:01):
I love him, man, he's great. I haven't seen his
Twitter in a while. I probably should check it. Uh no,
if you haven't to worry about. Uh so, maybe that
could be he's met at Jason Smith the basketball player.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Well, well, maybe he's conflating the two and it's it's
like a hate you, right, but really, now that Jason
Smith's taking the incoming, ah, you might be.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
Right about that. That could be, or he could think
that that Jason Smith the basketball player is me same guy, Like, yeah,
it's one guy, Like there's no difference, even though he's
a lot taller than I am. Yeah, yeah, I could
be insane, So there could be something that But I like, actually,
I said, I'm seventy five percent that that he that
he listens and he was throwing this out. Hey, you know,
I can't tell you how many people today ask me,
what does it mean with the numbers? Like one of
(13:42):
my friends said, the numbers he gave out, is that
is that like a way that he's gonna swat you?
Is that like a code? I don't, No, no, no,
he's gonna like I had to explain to his a no, no,
that's just his way of saying, oh, here's a random
persona Twitter that I don't that, I don't that, I
don't listen to him. So I'm like, well, at least
he didn't put you in a basement somewhere. Then I thought,
(14:04):
for a second, what if that was a message? All
of a sudden I get It's like it's one of
those movies where you get in your car and suddenly
people come Like you're driving in a in a you're
driving in a crosswalk or something. A car hits you.
When you get pulled out and someone takes the you
get thrown in the back and they put a sack
over your head, and I'm like, oh wow, they're gonna
take if you're taking me to else the gundo, I
know I know where you are. You can't take me
(14:25):
to else Gundo. I know I know how to get home.
From there, he's gotta get on the one oh five
and back up four or five takes the ball.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Yeah, I got a couple of good restaurants. If we're
gonna do this, do this right, good sandwich joint. I
never thought that a good juice bar? Is that a
way to what is that a way to sweep? That's
pretty good?
Speaker 7 (14:41):
You.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Oh, that was one of my friends who really is
not on social media a lot, thinking that you know
that can happen.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
No, no, I really do appreciate this though. Is that
you've got the coach of I mean what the second
team in town?
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Right, just Dodger Town. Yeah, you're just say like the
Clippers are number one. Wo well, I mean they.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
Did have some good billboards for a while. Yeah, the
billboards were good. No, I mean hen street lights over spot.
It's making sense as you're spending. I'll get somebody to
bring these guys in like Hawai took two million in
the year and deferred all his money like Otani did.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
No, it didn't happen. Yeah, no, no, no, like all of those,
I mean those was good.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Good branding in the wall is fun and we all
celebrate Chuck the condor. All of those great things, but
I mean, look, it's a Dodger town. I mean, Key
k Hernandez resigns on Super Bowl Sunday and it becomes
a huge story locally. Super Bowl is all fine and good.
And now Clayton kershaws like you've got all the band
(15:42):
back together. But all of that to say, yeah, I
mean this is kind of a big deal. We have
broken through on a whole other level. And I'd like
to thank JJ Reddick. Make sure to let everybody in
the locker room know where they can get the best
information takes to find fuel because right now, I mean,
you're killing it. And if we have some small percentage
of that because you're pissed, it's something you said or
(16:03):
conflated I said, because sometimes people think I've something out
of my mouth is actually you and vice versa, whatever.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
The case may be. If that's the fuel that gets
the Lakers going, man, I'll take that. I'll tell you Moore,
I mean, come on, well, we give us a consulting job.
You never know who you live rent free in the
head upe you never know, you never know, I mean
Los Ange big place.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
I mean, we're very honored to be on AM five
seventy La Sports the iHeartRadio app nationwide. But you know
those hours in Los Angeles, I mean, I mean you're
stuck in traffic and you're listening to us.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Sure, the greatest. So now we see what happens. Now
we see where we go from here. Now we see
where we go from here. Exit? How about a Fresca
exit swollen Dome. The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon
live from the tire rec dot Com studios. Coming up next,
the near Super Bowl brawl we didn't get but we
almost did. And of all the proud teams, once proud
(16:56):
teams in sports to fall on hard times, this team
may be the hardest one to see them, to see
the level that they're at. No, it's not the Jets.
All that more. Coming up next right here, Jason and
Mike Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. JJ Reddick requests of the song Jason
Oh he wanted JJ Redick wants y Oh what JJ
wants you give it to him. That's fine. If you're

(17:40):
my phdweightloss dot com. You know, funny thing JJ Reddick
right who now apparently I'm feuding with evidently, Yeah, yeah,
kind of a big deals kind of fun Now. I
feel like everything I say about the Lakers, like it
carries into the locker room, everything, every single thing I say.
I love everything I say. So when a couple months ago,
we had relatives in town, and it was funny the
(18:00):
one who came, I said to hey, was it was
JJ Reddick doing that? Was that sort of a way
to get you swatted? A few minutes ago his family
came into town. Were very close with them, all all
our lives. And we went out to trivia and we
were trying to you know, was we split up our
teams into two and it was it was me and
Zoe and and and a bunch of the kids. Like
I was the oldest one on the team. And and
(18:20):
then you know, everybody on the other team, and we
wound up winning. I told you it was very big.
And my wife is still mad that we won.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
One way.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
Yeah. So and the thing is like, all I said,
I can say whatever, you can't say whatever.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
All He didn't.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
He never said whatever it was it was? It was
it was Jason. It turned out to be with Jason, Jonathan,
Josie and Julie right that that that was our team, right, Okay?
So I said, what should our team nay be? Should
we be the you know, the the Jays j and
and and oh and Jake and other friend Jake and
who was there? And Jake goes, no, we should be
j J. J. J. Reddick was like, okay. So when
(18:56):
he's giving you all the scores out at the end,
go okay, after the third roll, here is the score
jump and Knuckleheads have thirty seven. Uh, Motorman's glove has
forty two and Jay J. J. Reddick had j sorry
J J. J. J Reddick has fifty one. So that
was how it went. That's pretty good. Yeah. See you
(19:16):
incorporated maybe your daily life and now and now you
know now we now we won't listen to anything but
apparently apparently everybody listen, we need to we need to
go to a home game. We got to get some credentials.
I gotta start saying, listen, I think there should change
the lineup. I have Jason Smith one four nite. Yeah, uh,
I think I think Here's what I think. I think
the Lakers should change a line up. I think Luca
(19:37):
and lebron should both come off the bench. I think
Bronni should start. I think Bronni and Knnect should start,
and I start them, give them at least thirty minutes
a game, Bronny and Luca off the bench just to
the end of quote, you know, energy and you know
the the you know, and and come off six and
seventh men and uh really just kind of let's see
what the younger guys can do. That's what I would
do that. There's there's my uh there, it's my advice.
(19:58):
I like that. Yeah, yeah, well, I mean you got
to change it up sometimes. Well, quite honest, little bit
of how many minutes can Luca play until he he's
so very tired slow, Just think how many minutes he
could play. It only had to go, Hey, go about
twenty minutes. Don't worry about it.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
But if he's coming off the bench, I mean going
up against the second unit too. Let me come on,
look at that. We broke his starting game streak. I mean,
if this isn't like Eli.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
And Gino Smith, No, no, no, no, man, he comes
off the bench, because even he said after last night,
it's like, look, I wanted to go first, you know,
go last for my first time, and then and then
after that whatever, whatever, We'll go back to normal now
outside of the feud with JJ Redd. No, it's the
greatest story in sports. Yeah. Yeah, well you're you're gonna
get side swiped now. So one of the biggest trending
(20:50):
topics on Twitter, JJ Jason Smith won four six some
of the numbers one.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
For yeah, I don't know. I set you up a
Twitter account though, to leave out the oh.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
The Pistons beat the Bulls tonight one thirty two to
ninety two. Okay, we've seen blaws like that. They won
by forty. All right, Pistons, we see this all the time.
You have a butt. I was just three years early
on the Pistons being two games above five. But that's fine.
They're so good. They're at least entertaining the Pistons are
so good. But the score at halftime of this game
(21:22):
was seventy one to twenty nine. Yeah, the Bulls did
not have the lead, just so you know, it was
not the Bulls had the lead. Well, in my mind
they did, floating around, floating to air seventy one twenty
nine at halftime. And this reminds me one of my
favorite Jay Leno jokes of all of all time was
(21:42):
when it was this what Jay went Leno? So I
gotta explain to millennials who Jay Leno was. So it
was right when when Woody Allen started dating Sunny, right,
and so that whole crazy story happened. And he does,
like and you think he's going to say something about
you know her you he beat, you know, being his
stepdaughter and everything else, and he goes and Insteady goes.
You know, it's on public now that Woody Allen and
soon he Preven are now dating. They're now an items,
(22:04):
big scandalous thing, like you know, thirty years ago, huge scandal.
And he goes and he goes, you know, he's sixty
two and she is twenty nine. Sixty two and twenty nine.
That sounds like halftime of a Clippers game, and like
Verry were like, ah, because like you thought he was
gonna say that. He just guys after the Clippers seventy
one twenty nine. That sounds like halftime of a Bulls game.
Oh wait, it's real. Look lean into those local audiences. Yeah,
(22:28):
we have seen so many teams, so many heritage proud
teams over the course the last few years, just not
quite fall on hard times but basically just fall like
the fall of the House of Usher or the fall
of Rome or and just fall completely off the map. Right,
And what do I always say, Here's a team that's
in sports Stonehenge, right, a team that like Stonehenge. We
(22:51):
don't know why it was relevant, but a long time
ago it was, but now people don't understand. Like I
want to put Syracuse basketball in sports Stonehenge. They lost
to Miami tonight. He had won twice since Thanksgiving and
they scored ninety against Syracuse. Like it's the low point
for Syracuse basketball the last fifty years. Like I want
to put Syracuse in sports stone Edge because you know, hey,
(23:11):
once upon a time Syracuse basketball was but nobody really
remembers why. Yeah, I can't do that for the Bulls
because everybody remembers why the Bulls were such a big deal,
because no one forgets No one's gonna forget Jordan, So
I can't put them in sports stone edge. But it
might be even more embarrassing is that of all the
teams that we have seen fall, whether it's the Cowboys
or anybody else, I don't know that anything is worse
(23:33):
or more embarrassing or more disheartening than the Bulls, who
went from a team that for a decade shot to
go a little bit more of the decade when they
started winning championships, just shot to the front and became
absolute sports royalty. In the brand of the Chicago Bulls,
it was was number one in the world. People wore
more Jordan gear and Bulls gear they did anything else.
(23:55):
It didn't matter where you were from. You love the Bulls,
You watch the Bulls. The Bulls were a thing. And
now what we see then okay, then the next iteration
comes in and it's Derek Rose, and okay, that's kind
of cool. It looks like they're gonna compete. And then
suddenly proven my theory that the world is flat or
not mine with a lot of people because they fell
right off the face of it, Like, it is so
embarrassing what has happened to them that they can't even
(24:17):
get any sort of relevancy. And it's been a long time,
and it's not like they keep trying, like they've had
the same We've been talking for four years. Hey, they
gotta trade Levine, they gotta move on the Huyatich, they
gotta do all that. And they do the same thing
every year. They don't trade anybody, and they don't trade
for anybody, and they still say, yeah, this bad team.
We're just gonna ride it out with this bad team
(24:39):
and not make any changes. Oh, but we'll give Lonzo
Ball nextra two years and twenty million dollars, you know,
who hasn't played for us until now for the last
four years. We'll do that. Like, like the Bulls, it's
so embarrassing what has happened to them? And I think
when when you say Chicago Bulls, I more think like this,
like one of those post apocalyptic movies when they're either're
going through a city and and they come by something
(25:01):
and they wipe off ah, you know, they wipe off
a sign and it says, you know, welcome the Yankee
stadium and this is the rubble of where Yankee Stadium was,
or you know, a planet of the apes when sure
Heston runs into the Statue of Liberty sorry spoiler alert,
he runs into the Statue of Liberty. It was there.
Oh my god. Yeah, Like that's about like that's what
I feel like the bulls. Like so like in a
post apocalyptic movie, people are wearing you know, they're wearing
(25:23):
Oklahoma City gear and Nick's gear and Celtics gear and
a Luca Laker jersey and they come by and they
wipe this off and go, who's this guy with twenty
three for the Bulls? Like, wow, that's a big that's
a really big poster for the bulls. Anybody ever, they
were good once upon a time, Like that's where how
I feel where the bulls are. But I mean, it's
(25:44):
just sad. It's so it's so sad and embarrassing that
how the heights they were at, how much royalty they
were at, and now they're just they're not even they
can't even get close to being relevant. And not only that,
they don't do anything to try to be relevble. All
we signed our GUIDs a few years ago. What else
you gotta do something. You gotta try. No, Bose aren't
even trying. No, I look, I sing the Soul Saver song.
(26:04):
Just try.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Oftentimes Dave gan uh and company getting after it. But
you know it's it's a mess. You got bizellous, you
got a couple of individual parts. We're like those guys.
There might be something, but.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
As a squad before you just want you to do something.
I want you to say, sing the Soul Saver song
three times fast, Go ahead, go sing the Soul Saver songs.
Sing the Soul Saver song. Sing the Soul Saver song.
That's pretty good. I like that. That's just he did that.
Now say toy boat as fast as you can five times,
toy boat, toy boat, toy boat, toy No, you gotta
(26:37):
say it fast fast. That's not fast at all, that's slow.
Not the toyo, toy bot, toy bo, toy toy boat,
toy boat, toy bot. If you try to do it fast,
not slow, to not slow, you are you know you
are like trying to You are like Ron Daine at Wisconsin.
I'm gonna wait and pick my way through the line
(26:58):
of scrimmage and try to get there. You're like lazy
on Bell at the end going I'm just gonna be
really patient before I really quick.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
Ron Ron Dain the best was at home games, right,
I play it at Northwestern, they'd just beat Ron Daye
the ball care because you can carry the ball thirty
five times a game and just run over us. So
that's how you know, my ex wife and a lot
of folks that were kind of coming into coming to
games and they they didn't know necessarily anybody else on
the squad, but they recognize Ron day the ball carrier.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
So you got that.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
But yeah, so you got a couple of component barts.
There's been some excitement. I mean, Kevin Durant amongst others
have been like, wow, Kobe White, if you can get
a team around him, now they can't. We watched Lori
Markinen play for the Jazz yesterday, Jamar Droz and doing
great things and you still have you know, they brought
in Josh Giddy. Every once in a while he pops up.
(27:49):
But as a squad, they're awful. Their their operations have
been terrible. They're stuck, just like the Bears have been.
Right still trading on nineteen eighty five. Yes, you had
that Bowl appearance, which is most notable for the Prince
Purple Rain in the rain sure as suppose because even
though it was Peyton manning Super Bowl win, he wasn't
great in.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
That game either.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
But all of that to say that, yeah, you're you're
still looking back at nineteen ninety eight and wishing, wanting,
hoping that Derek Rose MVP year. Why they celebrate that
because it's that last bit of goodness, last bit of great.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
Was my Carmen, what you was that? How far back
are we going? Twenty years? Yeah? Shut up, No, I
don't think you're going quite back. Not quite. You're going
back about fifteen years. Fifteen Yeah, that was like two
thousand and nine.
Speaker 4 (28:40):
You're going.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
Yeah, you're going back way. We're talking going back along.
We're talking a lot. Is it is?
Speaker 3 (28:45):
Sad eleven? I cheated him a year. I made him
one year older.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
Seventy one to twenty nine a hec Wow.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
Well, I mean look we were We saw that little
graphic right as they're doing the post game, and look
at us. We won back to back why to wire
wins for the Pistons first time since twenty fifteen, forty
two point margin at half the largest in franchise history.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven

free shipping, free road hazard protection at over ten thousand

should be. Now you real quick, before we get into
a big NFL store. I want to say this because
(29:39):
you know I will. This is kind of how the
show go watched The Crazy Train. I was thinking about this,
thinking about the eighties. Remember the eighties. Run Don't Walk
to watch Paradise on Hulu. Yeah, you're you're giving us
a little note lesson don't Walk. Yeah. And because there's
a lot of eighty eighties music plays into there's a
lot of and good eighties music like White Snake and
(30:00):
like remakes of the of the of the and they
have like the remakes where it's like the soft piano version.
He was like, here I go again on my own,
you know, piano piano, piano, the twinkling of the piano. INDI,
but Paradise is the most fun show I've seen, and
I don't and I the last six months, seven months. Okay,
(30:22):
it's just really just really quick. It's the premises and
I'm not ruining anything. Is you know how that after
a president leaves office, he keeps secret service detail. Okay,
Sterling K. Brown in the open of the open of
the show is a secret service agent on the former president.
James Marsden, who's this is the best thing I've ever
(30:43):
seen James Marsanen ever, whether it's it was thirty Rock
or or X Men, Like James mars is always like
he's just kind of there. He's just a face. But
he was pretty good and dead to me. He's good
in this Yeah, yeah, he was playing twins and dead
to me. But no, but this is the thing. I've
enjoyed him the most in this anything else in his career. Okay,
So it opens and that's a that's a pretty good
you know, it opens with it's you know, he's still
(31:05):
on the president and the last five minutes of the
first episode, you go, oh my god, what is that?
And I love that just like that. Everybody I've talked to, Oh,
you're watching Paradise. No, I'm not gonna ruin it for you.
I'm not gonna ruin it for you. But what are
you talking about? Not gonnaruin it, not gonna ruin it.
But the last couple of minutes of the first episode, Hey,
this is this is really good, right, It's it's interesting,
(31:26):
it's it's a little bit different. It's politics, but a
little bit different. It's not Deli. And you're like, oh
my god, what what? And now you're like, I gotta
watch the rest of it. Trust me, Paradise.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
I'm gonna see if I get we can find him
because he used to be with his fantasy football league
mates over at the bar restaurant down the show.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
Okay, you're not feuding with him like me and JJ No, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
We'd have a couple of laughs, and you know, I'd
be sitting because I'd come in on Sunday afternoons and
do a fantasy segment a couple of times over the
course of the In the course of games. Now, bur
Sugar handles a lot of that himself, uh with with
the fellas as the day goes on, I usually do
strut on the stage for the early morning and then
I leave. But yeah, Marsden and Sterling came brown.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
I'm in. Yeah, No, I tell you. I was so
because I'm because it's been a really rough last few
weeks of new shows at Dream and I found that.
And I'm probably watching Disclaimer, which is really good to
Kate just fantastic, that's on Apple. Okay, Kate Planchett, fantastic.
But no, but no, No Paradise is like, oh my god,
you're gonna come in and go, oh my god, dude,
(32:29):
you were right. Oh my god. Trust it's I don't
want to not gonna spoil anything, but it was just
just got to see it. You gotta do it.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
Okay, I'm in tomorrow. I'm gonna go see the Becoming
led Zeppelin movie spoiler, they become led Zeppelin, they become
big un I know the end. Robert Plant leaves for
the Honey Papers. That's how it ends.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
Do you remember when we met? Uh, that's how much
I love you. Yeah, that's how it ends. Jimmy Page
goes solo and does Outriders some more paranormal you know,
witchcraft kind of stuff. Yeah, so that's I'm just appreciate that.
(33:08):
But I mean, look, Titanic did a billion dollars. We
knew how that ended. Yeah, but you didn't know how
it ended for Jack and Rose Cares Winslet. What do
you mean you didn't care? That's what it was about
the boat. You knew what Okay, you knew what happened
to the boat. You cared about a boat, an inadimate object.
You cared more about that.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
I actually I don't think i've ever watched that start
to finish. I've seen it a couple of times, and
bits and pieces and cobbled it together.
Speaker 1 (33:35):
I feel bad for Fabrizio. Hey, you're gonna be there.
Also ran on because I'm gonna date Kate Winslet taking
her away and oh yeah, sorry the ship goes down.
Oh thanks, Leo, appreciate it. Thanks. What's on the sea? Well,
yeah I was. I was staying away from the obvious thing.
(33:55):
That's why. Because the honey dripper was funny. The honey
drippers were funny. You just went to I did this,
say hey, here's what happens to everybody knows. That's what happened.
Harmon likes the dead people. You know, that's true.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
But he didn't bring it up. I thought maybe he's
turning over a new leaf. Kind of been positive. I'm down,
like twenty five pounds, bring anybody not doing it. I'm
all about positivity, new life, rebirth, all of those new wings,
new life.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
Although you said new wife. No, okay, all right, so
you said that, I was like, wait a minute, dude,
wait a minute. We haven't told me something here for
a little bit. Uh no, here, hey, here's my new wife. Everybody,
all right, I just want to make say so new
lah okay, very good, Okay, all right, that's I can
(34:37):
promise you. Okay, no new wife. That would never happen, never,
and you're never getting married again. Never. Really, what if
you met what if you met Julie Louise Dreyfus. I
think she's married still, but what if you met your
Brad Hall? Okay, what if she's not miss kind of
a big deal. I like Brad and you and you
would bond over Allegrid Dfontaine whatever, and you would bond
(34:57):
over signed in Northwestern and go both of you went
to Northwestern. You're saying you wouldn't want to marry Julia
Louis Dreyfus. You would change.
Speaker 3 (35:04):
She actually has a lot of good family money too.
But still no, you would change your name to Mike
Harmon Luis Dreyfuss. No, now you wouldn't. Okay, all right,
I'm out. I'll find somebody. I'll find somebody you'd be
okay to marry. I'm fine, I'll think so yeah in
the realm of yeah, I'll find that. For larger media
washing world here, sure, I'll find I can't wait to
(35:25):
figure out.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
So you determine who that is. Speaking of the media
watching world, if if I ran a television network, if
I was looking for the next great show that I
could put on sports wise, I know exactly who i'd hire.
Big controversy the last few days just starting to get
some oxygen breathed into it, uh, courtesy of Cam Newton
(35:49):
and Steve Smith, former teammates with the Carolina Panthers. Cam
Newton making some headlines a few days ago when he
goes on a podcast and wanted to remind everybody that, hey,
when I got drafted by the Panthers back in twenty eleven,
it was a sad sack franchise. It was terrible. Remember.
He also said that I would rather have my MVP
Trophy than win the Super wines about what I did.
(36:10):
I forget about the guys in the block form and
catch the football. He did it himself. But even that year,
the Super Bowl year, you go back if you'd won
with that group of guys, I mean you're leading receiver.
I mean Greg Olson was good, yeah, obviously, but I
mean Ted Gin Junior and a couple of guys that
were kind of seen as well jagged receiver. I think
Tom Brady would have been a better receiver than Greg Olson.
(36:31):
Was it too soon for that? Too soon?
Speaker 4 (36:33):
What did I do?
Speaker 1 (36:34):
Show?
Speaker 7 (36:34):
You? Like?
Speaker 3 (36:34):
Folks taking like Stills and Brady and they're calling him
fire Marshall Bill.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
So let me talk to every a minute.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
Jay.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
You're stuck in a TV booth with Kevin Burkhart, all right?
So Cam Newton went on and really said some really
terrible things crowds about the Carolina Panthers, and the big
thing that got his former wide out Steve Smith's attention
was this about what the locker room with the team
was like when he got drafted and went there for
the first time in twenty eleven, when I was.
Speaker 4 (37:01):
The first pick, I went into a locker room of losers.
How did you end the pressure being the top pick.
Let's put it in perspective. You're the top pick.
Speaker 7 (37:08):
Because what no, no, no, no, that you're looking at
it from a personal situation. I'm talking about from the
professional situation. You're the top pick because that was the
worst team in the NFL the year before.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
For me, I wanted to be the number one pick.
Speaker 8 (37:21):
You could potentially be the first pick, but bro, you
have no way of impacting the game like a quarterback DOESK.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
You can lock down the number one receiver.
Speaker 8 (37:28):
You can make impact players on offense all you want,
but it's still not like a quarterback. My issue is
when I was the first pick, I went into a
locker room of losers. Guys didn't know how to win,
Guys didn't know how to prepare. It was a culture
shock for me. The games don't mean a lot to
a lot of people in the league like you would expect.
It's just money. Not everybody has capabilities to be impact players.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
They're just players.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
Yeahs on Travis Hunter's podcast, I went into a locker
room of losers.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
Yeah, don't look on Travis Hunter's face. It was just
like WHOA. It's like the beginning of Cars one winner,
fifty two losers, I am speed. This is another instance
of Cam Newton talking going dude, what the hell are
you saying? Man? I mean, I'm really I always say
what kind of teammate must he have been to play with?
(38:15):
Where this is something you really want to say, even
after your playing days are over. I was great. The
rest of the guys around me they were losers. I
won the MVP. Nobody else did anything else. Now to
take this in a different direction, because Steve Smith has
come out and said, oh, so you know Cam Newton saying, oh,
fifty two losers great, And it's been a back and
forth on social media and Steve Smith said, hey, I'm done.
(38:38):
Have you know, have a blessed life whatever he says,
I'm done with this Steve Smith. And it's been a
pretty big tho. Steve Smith has been an analyst for
the last few years NFL Network for a way honest
guy too. He will eventually occasionally stick his foot into
the mix and say something his rookie year Cherry Judy stuff.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
Yeah, sure so his rookie year, just for Cam Newton,
Steve Smith had fourteen hundred yards.
Speaker 1 (39:02):
Yeah, I mean he had. I remember the first two games,
like Cam Newton threw for like five hundred yards of
Steve Smith had like four hundred of them. But here's
Cam Newton jumping out and saying things that are completely
they're completely out of line, they're completely out of whack,
they're completely nonsensical. And again it shows you what kind
of teammate was Cam Newton. Now to take this in
a different direction, right, to go back to what I
(39:24):
said the very beginning. If I was starting a TV network,
if I had a new football show to fill, a
talking head show where I needed to make some sort
of headlines and put people up there that people were
going to pay attention to, I would say, Okay, the host,
I'll figure out, but I would hire Cam Newton and
(39:45):
Ben Roethlisberger. They would be the first two guys. I
would say, you're gonna be on the show. You're gonna
make headlines every day, and I want you to just
say what you say. Some stuff you say they're going
to be really insightful. Some stuff you say, especially Cam Newton,
is going to be just stupid, because that was just
stupid to say that. But people pay attention to what
you say. You stir the conversation. And I've told you
(40:08):
about these two guys the last few years. Cam Newton
does this once in a while, and you see every
time he does he makes news. Ben Roethlisberger does a
podcast he makes mainly it's about the Steelers, but he
makes news. He's not shy about giving his opinion. I
would start a daily football show and I would hire
both of them. They would be my two analysts and
it would be a debate, it would be opinions. He
jazz it up a little bit to make it look
(40:29):
different than what's on the air now. But Cam Newton
and Ben Roethlisberger boom either side of the desk, both
star quarterbacks that have that everybody remembers still because they
just finished playing a few years ago, that had the
cachet that obviously don't care about saying things that are
going to rub people the wrong way, because that's the
last thing you want with within with an athlete, and
(40:50):
this is the last thing that any network wants is
you're always worried that an athlete comes in and does
a great audition and says thing is going to blow
the doors off you and then gets on the air
and the middle of the field because I don't want
to say, this guy's gonna text me, this guy's gonna
say this to me, this guy's gonna do that, and
you like that. Roethlisberger and Cam Newton are both those guys.
(41:12):
They will say whatever they want to. They don't care.
And that's the guys you want that are driving opinions.
You can you can love the guys, you can hate
the guys, but you listen to what they say. And
that's a big thing because think about the guys that
make the news. Right, Brady makes news every week because
he's Brady, right, and that that kind that's kind of
how it goes. You know, he was really good in
the fourth quarter. He go in the fourth quarter of
(41:32):
the game. Well, I was like, dude, Brady's always had
his best in the fourth. It's like do that. Yeah,
He's always had his best in the fourth, But it's
like do that earlier. Do that earlier. These people will
get off your back. But you just think about a
daily show with Cam Newton and Roethlisberger and it would
drive opinions and people will talk about and they will
every day. They would trend on social media. There would
(41:53):
be something that athletes would respond to because some athletes
they'd be good with, and they would tell fun stories
about some athletes. They say, this guy stinks, this guy
needs to do this, this guy and they would really
have no filter, and it would be such an interesting
thing because not only are they both big personalities, but
they've played in enough big games. They both played in
Super Bowls, They've both been stars, they've both been Pro Bowlers.
(42:15):
You know, he was the MVP. Roethlisberger's got a couple
of Super Bowls. I mean, really, if I'm doing a
football show, these are the first two guys I put
on the air, and I go, good luck competing with
the rest of that. Let me see what all the
other networks have. Let me see your personalities on during
the day. Good luck, Dan Rolovski, good luck with these guys.
Good luck up against Roethlisberger and Cam Newton. I would
hire both in a second, and my show would jump
(42:37):
to the top and people would watch it would be wow,
look at this whole show. Jason Smith is so smart.
Speaker 4 (42:41):
Look at that.
Speaker 1 (42:41):
Oh my goodness, he put these guys on and look
at what they're doing. I'm telling you I would hire
both of them tomorrow. Yeah, you mentioned Orlovski. He said
basically goodbye for a while. So it'd be curious to
see where he pops up next. But that that is
to say, I'll take those two guys.
Speaker 3 (42:55):
Obviously, there's a report that the Jets while they can't
do it based on the CB A uh. One of
the sticking points with Aaron Rodgers was, hey, can you
can you walk away from the weekly visits with with
McAfee and some of the media appearances you're doing. Uh,
And it might have been a way to kind of
force the issue, but either way, that was one of
(43:15):
the reports coming out.
Speaker 1 (43:16):
You know what one is a.
Speaker 3 (43:17):
Third man in on that though, okahead. I want James Harrison,
Oh yeah, he yeh. He gets he gets after it.
And like you want to talk about an opinion, we get,
you got, you got the offensive side of the ball.
You got cam uh and the and the hats and
obviously I've celebrated that his whole career.
Speaker 6 (43:36):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (43:36):
I love the fact that you know, he's got an opinion,
he's gonna he's gonna bring it. And Ben Roethlisberger we've
seen that uh in spurts and now you just have
to expand it.
Speaker 1 (43:45):
League wide.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
But Harrison made some noise a little bit going back
and forth, showing up on some podcasts during Super Bowl week.
He's a guy with a big a big footprint in
the league. Uh, and another guy big footprints and and also,
I mean, who's gonna tell them no, right, who's gonna.
Speaker 1 (44:05):
Say, do I start? I haven't hired you. I said,
when do I start? You can start now, mister Harrison.
Just go down the hall, well, get your new suit on,
all right, thank you very much. Oh wow, Oh I
touched a bullet on that one.
Speaker 3 (44:16):
But it's basically the when when we get after it.
You know, you got a handful of guys that there's
no filter, right.
Speaker 1 (44:23):
A lot.
Speaker 3 (44:24):
We've had a lot of big names that have had
their moments, Ray Lewis, Emmitt Smith, all of these guys,
and you can and you can go for the biggest name.
And that takes nothing away from the accolades that Harrison, Roethlisberger,
Cam Newton have had. But they're not afraid, right they
they're far enough removed from their playing careers to where
they're gonna give you an opinion. They're not looking to
(44:46):
be in the business of running a squad, coaching all that,
like they've made their peace with where they're at in
their careers and post post playing careers to give you
an honest opinion on stuff and and give me that
any day of the week.
Speaker 1 (45:01):
I mean they would, they would, They would stir the
pot and it would be what are they gonna say today?
What are these guys going.
Speaker 3 (45:07):
To second scams? Thing with this team makes no sense.
You had DiAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart as a one
to two.
Speaker 1 (45:15):
I did it, I me, I did it. I did it.
There's no Iron team, but there's an EMIN and E
and that's me.
Speaker 4 (45:21):
Go back.
Speaker 1 (45:22):
You dive on the damn ball. You might have won
the Super Bowl Exit out out a Fresco exit swalling
down The Jason Smith Show with Mike Carmon live the

we have one you didn't see coming coming up next

Speaker 2 (45:41):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 5 (45:48):
The next Jason Smith Won six eight, four nine eight.
Speaker 1 (45:53):
Fox Sports Radio the Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harr.
Speaker 4 (45:56):
Because I'm not going to respond to Jason.
Speaker 1 (45:58):
Understand it live tireg dot com Studios. Apparently I'm now
feuding with JJ Reddick. From his postgame press conference last night,
he got a question, wasn't sure who's gonna like it?
Said he wouldn't answered. It was from Jason Smith at
one six four a nine on Twitter. As you heard,
not gonna respond to Jason. You know this is a
different angle. We've talked about this a little bit tonight.
(46:19):
I'm probably eighty percent sure Reddick is is beefing with me.
I've gotten full one hundred, but I would say this.
Our next guest had to join us right now, said
his number one job this entire season was going to
be to undermine JJ Redick as head coach of the Lakers,
and now when one fell swoop, I'm doing his job
for him. He's Lakers insider Mark Medina, who joins us. Now,
(46:42):
what's happening, buddy?
Speaker 4 (46:43):
How are you well?
Speaker 6 (46:44):
Jason? Let me connect the dots further. Guess who is
in the press conference? Firm one? JJ Reddick utter those
words myself?
Speaker 1 (46:52):
Okay, So what did you think, well, I'm tating it.
Speaker 6 (46:56):
Up for you. I'm creative beef because you have a
national platform. You were witlessly criticized JJ Ridders coaching. That's
going to put pressure for the Lakers to make a
change and wah wah.
Speaker 1 (47:10):
So wait a minute, you think I got them, Luca?
Is that what you're saying, that I get the Lakers?
Speaker 4 (47:14):
Luca?
Speaker 1 (47:15):
Oh that's it.
Speaker 6 (47:16):
Oh my goodness, I'm saying that you're gonna put me
in the head position because if you were a witless
criticism on the airwaves.
Speaker 3 (47:24):
Ah well, I mean, if he didn't coach like a plumber,
I gonna say that was a bit surprising last night.
Speaker 1 (47:33):
I didn't know. And you know, and honestly, you know
the stuff I've said about about Reddick and the Lakers.
I'm like, okay, I know what I've said. Everything I've
talked beginning of the season on through then I actually
went through social media and I was like, oh, that
was a really funny tweet, but I could see he
would have hated that. Oh I get it. Oh that
was funny, but I could see where he wouldn't like that.
So I can see a little bit of that on
social media a little bit.
Speaker 6 (47:52):
I mean, look, there was a lot of teamwork going on.
You know what I was doing for you, what Lebron
James was doing for Luca Doncis was giving up the
starting lineup introduction so that he could be laughed. That's
that's all about thinking out for each other here.
Speaker 4 (48:06):
How come you.
Speaker 1 (48:07):
Didn't stand up in the press conference and say, hey,
wait a minute, now, I know Jason. You haven't even
met him. You think he's a bad guy. You got
at least meet him once and then say you don't
like him.
Speaker 6 (48:15):
Actually, I want you to be mad at him. I
don't want you. I don't want you talking about how
he's uh he should be coach of the Year and
all that. I mean, you got to keep your foe
for Tom Thibodeau with the next I thought I.
Speaker 1 (48:28):
Thought you and Wake would stand up a guy wait
a minute, wait, But now it was just silence from you, guys.
I can't believe that.
Speaker 6 (48:34):
I can't speak fora but for myself, I want that spot.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
Yeah, there was a lot of laughing going on, I mean,
because everybody knew exactly who I mean. It wasn't a
random name that he associated with. The Twitter handle no.
Speaker 6 (48:48):
I mean, guys, it's personal here. No, though I can't
be any more clear, he hates.
Speaker 1 (48:53):
To Yeah, No, I mean like we got it. Wait
did you have a conversation with them after that? I'm
not aware about it or.
Speaker 6 (49:01):
No, I did not. But I'm just gonna continue to
be put on the drop.
Speaker 1 (49:09):
That's good. But I got the Lakers Luca now apparently
so okay, then it should fire off Polinka. If I
could do that and get the Lakers Luca, man, I
mean you're leaning out there, smith, job I did.
Speaker 3 (49:20):
Pretty soon you'll be able to wear one of those
painted on jackets like Polenka and we'll we'll roll from there.
Speaker 1 (49:24):
What a job we got. We got Sean mcvage of
the Rams, and now we got Luca to the Lakers.
What else do we need to do?
Speaker 6 (49:30):
Yeah, I got delivered the next championship, but that's probably
a lost cause.
Speaker 1 (49:35):
No, hey, listen, no, seriously, what I want when they
build the statue of me outside Crypto, I want to
be in and I want like I'm doing a radio
show at the microphone. I want a Mets hat on,
and I want sweatpants and a T shirt. That's what
I want. My thing to be.
Speaker 6 (49:48):
We'll see what happens. My transition is the Lakers will
think you don't what only chick her deserves that nod.
But okay, see what happens.
Speaker 1 (49:55):
But if I can to tie me, come on, I
get him a time. All right? So so outside of
Reddick beef oh bye. By the way, so now when
you go to you're going are you going to be
in the press conference tomorrow after the game in Utah?
Speaker 6 (50:05):
Uh? Not any talbot break?
Speaker 1 (50:09):
Okay, because what I want you to do since your
friend of the show, and I can say this now
because actually the influence have over the Lakers the first
postgame press conference back, I want you to say I
have a question from Jason Smith won four six, eight, eight,
six and seven, and see if he answers it from you.
Speaker 6 (50:29):
We shall see what happens. No promise this because again
I'm trying to get the job here.
Speaker 1 (50:35):
No, no, no, I get So what do you make
after seeing the first night with you know, outside of
me me living rent free? And JJ Redick said, what
do you make out of the first night you saw
from Luca the new look Lakers?
Speaker 6 (50:47):
Well, look, I mean it's I pity this JJ H
and Jason are not on good terms as strongly as
Lebron James and Luca Dodgers are on great terms. I
thought it was a really cool sign that Lebron texted
Luca before the game said, hey, do whatever you want
with sorry lineup intros. That Lucas said that really meant
(51:10):
a lot to him, and I don't think it also
showed that he is a type a you know, dominant
personality and he said, yeah, I want to I want
to be called last the starting lineup. But then he
also considered as far as what Lebron means, you know,
with his stature, it said, moving forward, he's going to
be announced last the starting lineups. You know, this might
(51:31):
sound like, you know guys, you know, preschool kids playing
their sandbox, but these kind of things like matter to
NBA athletes. Every little competitive edge and how they're seeing
the game, it matters. So I think that that's a
really good sign of things to come. And then I
think a greater sign of things to come is how
(51:51):
they played on the court together. Now I know the
caveata is they played the Utah Jazz. They're tanking, they're
trying to lose games, but it's it's just their chemistry goes.
It seems very seamless, and it probably shouldn't be surprising
because Luc and Lebron are generational talents. They're very skilled
scores and playmakers. But as you all know, Lebron has
(52:14):
faced difficulties in other seasons where he would anoint you know,
the next his next teammate to be the guy that
reduces his playmaking abilities and then all of a sudden
he takes over. But I think that that illustrates that
Luca Dodgic, it's a much different player than D'Angel Russell
and Russell Westbrook.
Speaker 3 (52:33):
To that, and we can get excited, didn't you know
about what we saw? Gaveatted out all you will with
Utah and another game against Utah and then we'll start
getting into the All Star break. Mark, but the other
shoe that didn't get to stay on their their new
feet go to the just that of Mark Williams and
the trade that wasn't and Dalton connect Salty on the
(52:57):
sidelines and how do they reintegrate m And what do
you expect to happen with the big Man search these
next forty eight hours.
Speaker 6 (53:05):
Yeah, well, there's a lot to untack here because they
can't really do much because the trade deadline pass. Now
I know that, you know, earlier today they signed Alex
when he's he's a good decent body, but he's not
a game changer. But they need all the help they
can get because Jackson Hayes he's emerged as a really
good lob thread. He was throwing down a lot of
(53:26):
dunks from Lebron and Luca. But they lack enough depth here,
so they got Alex in Lenn, I mean Alex Lenn.
They waived Christian Wood, so that's the short term solution
what they do with Jhaen connect jj Reddick said that
he's likely to play in tomorrow's game in Utah, But
really that's kind of wait and see as far as
(53:48):
what this means, because don't connect. He's a rookie. But
you know, the short time I've got to know him,
he seemed to be someone who wasn't really phased with adversity,
Like he was a guy. You know, part of his
path as being this really good shooter was he would
you know, be able to still have the same resiliency
through shooting slump. So I would expect and hope that
(54:11):
he has that same attitude with this, but that body
language that he showed on the bench yesterday was not good,
and I think it's a sign that this could be
a process for him to overcome.
Speaker 1 (54:22):
I got to think, Mark, what are the odds possibilities?
I know we're focused on now, Well, what are the
possibilities this deal gets revisited sometime in the off season,
because we saw a both sides are on the same
page of this. The Lakers are saying, Hey, it's done,
and well maybe not. Hey, we want to we want
to find some kind of injunction. So what are the
possibilities we see some some version of this trade in
(54:45):
the off season.
Speaker 6 (54:46):
I guess he never say never in the NBA, but
I'll be very surprised if Mark Williams as a Laker.
I mean, they found issues with his physical which is
really just weird unpack because they, you know, had talked
about how their medical staff vetted through everything and his injuries.
And it's one thing for someone like Mark Williams to
(55:08):
saying something to me in an interview earlier in the
season where he said, yeah, my injuries are behind me.
I've been fully great. We did all this stuff with
the meta, you know, with the training staff and being patient.
It's another thing for another NBA team to vet through
that because they got a cross frontmerence and they have
access to things that I don't have. So I would
(55:30):
be surprised if that happens now. I will say this,
I don't think even though the Charlotte Hornets offered a
really tone deaf, weird response on X about hey, we'd
like to welcome Mark Williams back, and so the Lakers
that approachased with this offer that mischaracterized it. I don't
think that they're trying to full a fastball on the Lakers.
(55:53):
I think that they just thought, you know, the Lakers
obviously won a center. Mark Williams had been playing significant
amount of games in the last month after coming off
of minutes restriction of some of his injuries. But I
think that they just thought long term, he's young, he's
had injuries, let's just sell high while we can. I
would say the same thought process of the Lakers trading
(56:16):
Anthony Davis, like they know his injury history and lo
and behold, he gets hurt first game against the MAVs.
But one didn't necessarily have anything to do with the other.
Because it happened in the heat of the game.
Speaker 1 (56:28):
Mark excitable.
Speaker 3 (56:30):
Obviously, Luca first game back after missing time since Christmas.
But does the All Star break come in a little
bit of an in opportune time with the as well
as this team has been playing.
Speaker 6 (56:41):
Yeah, it's the old rust versus rest conundrum because the
Lakers had been playing really well. They want to build
off that momentum with getting some chemistry with Luca. But
I would think that this All Star break helps them
more than hurts them because Luca Dacis is on a
minute restriction. He hadn't been playing I think, for the
(57:02):
previous eighteen nineteen games because of his left calf injury.
So I suspect that they'll ramp his minutes up a
little bit tomorrow and then this will give him a
chance to reset here. And for Lebron, look, he's forty
years old. He's going to be starting yet another All
Star Game. But I think that he'll welcome the chance
to recharge the body a little bit because after that
(57:24):
it's a full sprint to try to see if they
can put way in a bottle and make a deep
playoff push with this move.
Speaker 1 (57:31):
He's on Twitter at Mark g Underscore Medina. That's aid
Mark G Underscore Medina, who now is my running mate
with undermining Jim. Yeah, no question.
Speaker 3 (57:42):
Get to do a couple hours with me on Sunday
nine to eleven pacifics.
Speaker 1 (57:46):
So all of this and all the all star fun
that's part of you.
Speaker 6 (57:50):
Itam looking forward to joining you, Mike in studio on
Sunday nine to eleven, as you said on Fox Sports Radio,
and I will continue to do my best to see
Jason wise about how JJ actually feels about him.
Speaker 1 (58:03):
Look, I'm just feeling I got the Lakers, h Luca. Now,
I feel like my I've done as much as I could.
If they need me to give an inspirational speech, then hey,
look I've done what I could, right, I got you guys, Luca, all.
Speaker 6 (58:13):
Right, there's plenty of time left in the season for
you to stop by at the arena or the practice facility.
Speaker 1 (58:20):
Again on Twitter at Mark G Underscore with Dan and
Mark appreciated man. We'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 6 (58:25):
I appreciate you all well.
Speaker 1 (58:26):
Mark, I thought that you show up for a press conference.
Do you think you think they'll let me in? You
think JJ ready to let me in?
Speaker 4 (58:33):
Hi?
Speaker 1 (58:33):
Jason Smith one four six eight four nine Twitter Joey,
he doesn't know your face? How you doing? How you doing? Faces?
All over the internet.
Speaker 3 (58:41):
It's there, I get it, but it's all there. But
maybe he hasn't done that in secondary search.
Speaker 1 (58:47):
Yeah hell no my voice though, Oh you're the dude,
You're that dude. And then he would like get really
it would be like John Cheney and John Calipari. Hey, coach,
he coach. That would be see after me in the
middle of a sentence, just peals and turns and comes
straight after your throat. That would be the best. That
(59:09):
would be the best. How great is you got a
good team?
Speaker 4 (59:13):
Coach?
Speaker 1 (59:14):
Stop doing crap like oh lo lo lo lo be fighting?
But who does have a bigger beep with you?
Speaker 4 (59:22):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (59:23):
Hershiser? Oh I think oh JJ obviously JJ Reddick Yeah
yeah yeah yeah, or herscheizer for that was a couple
that was a few years ago. Now now it's definitely
JJ Reddick. Yeah. Despite me, like, I'm kind of getting tired,
I'm getting titles for people, man, titles I'm getting I'm
getting superstar somehing else. You brought a superstar to town,
I brought become a kingmaker. Man. I brought McVeigh into town.
I brought Luca into town. Look at all the stuff
(59:44):
I'm doing.
Speaker 3 (59:44):
Come on, No, that interview with Eric Dickerson one of
the more interesting, volatile, what fifteen minutes or so of
audio that we ever have. I still have the raw
on edited. Oh wow, nice responses.
Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
Yeah, I'll send you a copy of it because it
got next level and it ended Jeff Fisher's run.
