Speaker 1 (00:33):
Greetings, Welcome inside, Happy Monday, The Jason Smith Show with

Well dressed Hobo.

Tire rack dot Com is the way tire buying should be. Well,
here we are Monday night, and our focus is on
on hockey.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Nah Wildcats eight seconds left question.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Mark at the end Criss on hockey Wick words that
uh yeah, this is how weird, this is how bad?
And NBA All Star Weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
Well, shouldn't we just complain for the next four hours?
Speaker 1 (01:17):
What an awful week, that's all we should do. Its terrible.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
It was stomp up and down and tell everybody how
terrible they were. And if you were one of the
fourteen million people that watched it, you're a horrible person
who uses their time terribly. Isn't that what we're supposed
to do?
Speaker 1 (01:33):
The players didn't like the All Star Game, the fans
didn't like the All Star Game. The fans want a
new All Star Game. Everybody wants to criticize the NBA.
They don't know what they're doing. Why did they make
these changes. I don't like the short games. I don't
like how much time there is between games. I don't
like the fact that a rookie team can play on
a Sunday night, on a Sunday Draymond Green on a
(01:53):
sudden I don't like nobody had a worse weekend than
the NBA. I mean really, it was just I was like, okay,
we're we knew the game was gonna stink, we knew
what was going on wasn't gonna be great, and then
here we are, it happens, and now it's okay, let's
just unload on the NBA. When the All Star Game
was exactly what we thought it was gonna be, you know.
And that's the thing is that the NBA All Star
(02:17):
Game not being good is not the decline and fall
of Western civilize.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
It just it's everything. It's it's it's the T shirt,
it's an All Star shirt. Everything there is.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
There is such you know a difference between the actual
impact of the All Star Game and what people thought
about and then what's being said about it, like like
a personal affront has been done to all the NBA
players and pundits and experts and analysts, like, I can't
believe the NBA put this out there. For me, it's
an All Star game. What the blank do you want
(02:48):
it to be? Man, it's an All Star game. It's here.
We're forgetting about it. We're moving on right that. That's
kind of what the All Star games are like that
you can't think back to.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
The All Star Game was great. Yeah, it was great
years ago. It was great.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
It was also the NBA wasn't as great because you
didn't see as many games. You didn't get to see
the players as much as you know. Oh, the NBA
is in a better place now than it was when
the All Star Game was great. It's an All Star Game.
It's an All Star game. This is not somebody went
into your pocket and took money away from you. It
was an All Star I don't know what people want
it to be. This is a completely overrated buck. As
(03:20):
far as the impact of the All Star Game on
the NBA, Adam Silver is a failure.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
It's an All Star game. What the hell do you want?
Adam Silver should have just been holding up the numbers
seven and six the entire time. I don't care about
any of this, so that DV ratings don't matter. We
already got the bag seventy six billion dollars. You want
to complain about this, the sanctity of All Stars Sunday,
(03:45):
the Draymond Green comments, I mean, that's about as laughable
as it gets. And for the players themselves, I give
them credit. They actually looked like they wanted to play
basketball in between Kevin Hart and everybody else having to
yam or on and do stand up comedy for fifteen
minutes at a time. Yeah, Shay Gill, Alexander be like,
can I actually play basketball? Can we just play basketball? Please?
So if you'd actually done that in your three and
(04:06):
a half hours of televised time, which included thirty minutes
of basketball play. You know, you came for the basketball.
The rest of it's a fun side show. But when
the guys show up and actually want to play basketball,
guess what. Just roll the ball out and let him
play basketball, let him do what they do in the
offseason and everything else. So yeah, it was fine. They
(04:27):
had other highlights. Mac mcglun comes out of nowhere and
answers the bats signal and gives you the big dunk contest.
I still think Stefan Castle should have won because you
know what, no props. But that's fine. That's a whole
other debate for another time. But the sanctity of your product,
no worry about getting guys, staying healthy and finishing out
(04:48):
the twenty five games that are left. Maybe re examine
when you actually have your all star game. Now that
most of your teams have some opportunity to sniff the
back end of the playoffs, so there's meaning full basketball
had for all but maybe three teams in each conference
figure those things out, figuring out how to kiss the
asses of sponsors and then get a game on. That
(05:10):
doesn't matter as long as they glad handed the right
guys and took pictures. Everybody's happy, everybody goes home, all
the sponsors, and the seventy six billion will be spent.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Now, you can't ask the game to be something it's not.
But now, what do you want? I don't know, but
I don't want this? Okay, now the players are mad
and all kinds of stuff.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
I don't want. Give me a solution, not this, I
don't know. That's like my kid when she was little.
Oh yeah, you'd hand her, you know, you'd put the
meal in front of her, and she'd go, that's not
my favorite. Like, no, I don't care. What do you want.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
I don't want this.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
It's not my favorite.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Tell me something you want? No, but I want something
out No no no, not this, not this, not no
no no.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
But that's kind of what it's been. And I get
it because the backdrop of it is the NBA All
Star Game had to watch where Okay, the NHL, which
also has been a we're gonna throw stuff up against
the wall and see what sticks, right.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
They have found something. Amazingly they found Wait a minute,
this whole four Nations thing is.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
A huge hit.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Oh wow, And now they've hit on something that is
the best idea they've had in probably twenty years to
go back. The best thing the NHL did was, well,
they came back from the lockouts. That's a pretty good
four on four overtime, three on three overtime and eliminating
the red line. And now this, like this is the
best thing the NHL has done. But this is something
(06:30):
that cuts through because now this four nation tournament is
a big deal. Yes, you saw the excitement what happened
over the weekend with the United States and Canada and
beating Canada three to one and booing our national anthem
and three fights in the first nine seconds in Canada
like Apollo Creed after winning tonight over Philly goal we
want you, we want you. And now Thursday night is
a Titanic game with the United States and Canada. For this,
(06:53):
like the Hockey's figured out, Oh, this is what the
All Star situation should be. And they're stupid if they
don't go to this every year. Because the one thing
about hockey, and this is a good and bad, is
that when it's United States hockey, when it's an Olympic
or World Cup setting, everybody's all in all of a sudden,
it cuts through the clutter and becomes the biggest sports
(07:15):
story out there because of Miracle and Ice. We all
still remember, even if we're not old enough to remember
watching it, the impact of miracle and Ice, which is
still purely the biggest sports story of my lifetime. This
is forty five years later, Like this is a pure
sports impact where it was, you're still feeling it whenever
it's Us against the world, whenever it's it's American pride, like, hey,
we get in on it now. The bad news for
(07:36):
hockey is that's really the only thing that people go
crazy for. But now you've seen that this is what
it should be every single year. And you already saw
NBA players saying, we want our own USA versus the world. Right,
we can't have USA. We're at different nations. Not enough
players are there that can make All Star teams. But
they want their version of that. And they talked about
it today and Yokich and Trey Young and hey, we
(07:57):
want this thing now. Because the NHL they figured it out.
This should be every single year. There should be no
All Star game in the NHL. You can still name
people all starts. Hey, congratulations, you're named an All Star,
meaning you get the designation of being an All Star,
and then you have the rosters for the four nation tournament,
which hey, next time next year, expand it. Right, Obviously
Russia is not playing this year because of the sanctions
(08:18):
because of the war in Ukraine. But you have enough
to get other teams. Hey, Germany, we'll get a team
in probably next year. They'd have enough to get in
this year. But you expand this thing and make it
a two week you're shutting down the NHL for two weeks.
You can play a big round robin with with six
seven teams in, like everybody gets in for this man,
you would own this week on the calendar. If the
NHL is smart, they make this a permanent thing and
(08:39):
say this is how we're doing it for the rest
of the time. This old All Star. They hey, we
threw enough up against the wall. We finally got something
to stick.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
This should be it well US versus the world, right,
And I mean go through the history different iterations of this.
I mean they're saying that the what US went over
Canada saying averaged about four point four million users our viewers.
I should say that's a pretty good number right on
the grand scale. You're not getting NFL numbers. You're not
(09:06):
getting college football playoff numbers, but four point four million
on a Saturday night. The way the things went viral immediately,
three fights and nine seconds. I think the over undrowd
fights was two and a half. By the way, I
think we had that cashed nine seconds. So get that
money back into the betting fields immediately. But you tap
into the national pride, as you said, it's always gonna
(09:29):
be there, whether it's the miracle on ice, whether it's
just the general geopolitical climate we've been in and have
been living in for I mean decided where you jumped
in out there listening wherever you are on the globe,
right the iHeartRadio app, all our affiliates, wherever you jumped
in on that. But national pride always comes in. I
(09:50):
mean that's why they lean into those ads hey made
in the USA. How many of those have you seen
in the last year or so? Right, leaning back into it.
So if that's gonna down into the players, coaches and
those rivalries and national pride coming in, I mean, think
about the NBA All Star Game. What was the greatest line?
But we came out of Nikola Jokic going yeah, I
(10:12):
miss Luca. I wish he was here. We had a
good lot of good times. Well they'd be paired together
and though good times would be Roland, no question about it.
But all of that to say, yeah, you got to
try to find something in that formula that's gonna get
folks stoked and keep throwing stuff against the wall, or
just cancel it all together. You know what, It's a
meet and greet, come down, sign some autographs, take some photos,
(10:35):
and just do an extension of the week long convention
that you've already got for the NBA, the NHL. For
right now, Gary Bettman's got to be loving this. Get
a couple more teams involved, expand a tournament. I think
everybody's more than happy to break it down because we've
had two week breaks in the past. We've seen extended spaces,
(10:56):
you know, because of the international play. Same thing here.
Just dial it up, give it another week and capture
whatever market that you can and sell the hell out
of your stars. Anybody that's going anywhere near a giant
milestone for themselves or on a career chart that should
be in the lower third. Constantly you are watching greatness.
Let me remind you look.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Right now, United States trailing Sweden two to one in
a game. The United States does not need. Nobody named
Coulchuk is playing in this game. So just to let
you know, okay, really don't need to go. They got
to be ready to fight on Thursday. But look, but
that's the whole thing is that all these sports now
are looking for a way to try to jazz up
the middle of the season. Right The NBA is looking
at the mid season tournaments, the nd season tournaments. The
(11:36):
NHL is looking. The NHL's found it, like they found
their mid season tournament. This is a very big deal.
Whatever you want to call this, the four Nations, ben
six Nations, a, whatever it is.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
You come up with a real swell name for it.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
It becomes something that every year everybody's gonna want to
play for and everybody's gonna stop and watch. It's a
great place on the calendar. It's right after the Super Bowl,
before we get into the combo a little bit. You
have NBA All Star Weekend. You're not really competing with anything.
You have a nice two week tournament that ends with
a championship and some kind of metal gold medal.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
That's fine.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
It doesn't need to be Olympics to be gold medal.
But they figured out the mid season tournament that everybody
is going to be in because you look at the
attention that this has right away. I think the NHL
is gonna look back and say, Okay, what are the
biggest events of the last twenty five years and a
few years they're gonna look back and say Game one
or Game two for the United States, United States Canada
(12:31):
in the first four Nations, the brawl off, the beginning,
everything going with the national anthem and the hatred that
Canada has the United States, United States for Canada with
the whole are we gonna annex Canada or not?
Speaker 4 (12:42):
Are they gonna try to annex California?
Speaker 1 (12:44):
Like We're gonna look back at that moment and say,
this was the birth of that in hockey. And now
they've they've taken over and they've figured it out. So
again it's a silver lining for the NBA. Say, hey,
keep throwing stuff up against the wall, man, you never
know what's gonna stick. And the NHL clearly did it
for a long time and look they found so NBA
just keep doing it.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
Well for the NBA, they also found the win. You
buried it, and they buried the lead there the in
you know, the end of tournament and playoff playing right,
getting to ten teams whatever we're calling that at this point.
It's sponsored by somebody at this point, isn't it. But
the fact that you've got teams outside of the Mavericks
a couple of years ago, that everybody takes it seriously
(13:23):
if they can actually get to that ten slot, because
then you have a puncher's chance to maybe make some noise. Right,
you get guys healthy, get the right matchup and your role.
We've seen it. We watch what the Lakers were able
to do out of those spots. We've seen the Warriors
make make runs. So you've already hit on that you're
not going to bat a thousand. So for Adam Silver,
it's trying to figure out what the next iteration of
(13:45):
things and if players are commenting on this hockey win
to get on board, then yeah, this is the next iteration.
All right, this didn't work. Everybody rated it terribly. Everybody
said let's cancel, including Kevin Durant. But if you get
him back, I mean he was crying talking about his
USA basketball. Yeah no, there's you're in, Adam Silver. I
(14:07):
know I got him who else can I get?
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Let's go exit out about a Fresca exit swollen dome.

Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Fox Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best
friend Mike Harmon. Ten minutes ago in the third Sweden
leeds United States two to one. Again, this game doesn't
matter if the United States they are set to play
for the Four Nations Championship against Canada. Big Day tomorrow
in the NFL. Will t Higgins be getting the franchise tag?
(16:05):
Will Sam Darnald be getting the franchise tag? Can we
see something else? Out of the blue joining us now
not line nobody better the NFL Insider check him out
on Odyssey one oh five seven. The Fan in Baltimore,
Washington Post a man who is up late celebrating the
end of Aaron Rodgers with the Jets. It is Jason
Locking for what's happening, Bud?
Speaker 3 (16:26):
What's going on? Guys?
Speaker 4 (16:28):
Everyboddy? Oh are you man?
Speaker 1 (16:30):
I say so? Uh, listen tomorrow. Obviously, like the two
big names we're gonna talk about, o'mously seeing what happens
with T Higgins and Sam Darnold. Let's get to Sam
Darnald first. You know, when we talked about the situation
with the franchise tag a month ago, we thought, yeah, okay,
here's a couple months ago.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
Yeah, they're gonna wind up franchise him. They're not gonna
lose him.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
But I'll tell you, Jay, after hearing Kevin O'Connell the
way the Vikings are approaching this, I feel like they're
just gonna let him go go to free agency and
wish him good luck and it's gonna be JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
Yeah, I mean, I.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Still think it would be a surprising move, and other
executives around the league, especially in this climate where there's
not much quarterback capital out there. Think it would be
an odd move not to at least put a transition
tag on him. I mean, I don't know if that's
splitting hairs with you what O'Connell had to say about,
(17:23):
you know, not franchise tagging him. They have a couple
of weeks to continue to muld this over. There's obviously
still a chance that he gets into the open market,
and he's still at a price point that they're willing
to pay. But that's a pretty decent football team and
(17:44):
another full off season with O'Connell and Darnold. I think
that would be a pretty enticing proposition for them. And
they don't know what they have in the other kid.
And like I got people telling me he's scrawny, his heck,
like people who've seen him, Like, there's a lot of
(18:05):
work he's going to have to do. He missed a
lot of time just work on his body, let alone,
you know, everything else that goes into being a starting quarterback,
and now a starting quarterback who's going to come in
and replace it? You know, it's not like he's the
guy to replaced, you know, Cousins after he was crippled
and they rolled just Dobbs and you know whoever else
out there. They were competing for the best record in
(18:27):
the NFL, and Sam Donald had a top five quarterback
season in the regular season in this league. So I look,
there'll be a market for Donald, There's no doubt about that.
I'm not talking about a super long term deal or
anything like that, but I get this level of competitions,
He's going to do pretty well. And if Minnesota doesn't
(18:49):
tag him, then I believe if Matt Stafford's traded, Sam
Donald will end up in LA.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
With that said, now, well, the Stafford domino is the
most interesting I think chess piece and all of this.
We talked about it with Kelly Stafford's comments, We've we've
chatted about it a little bit. Look, what's a reasonable
asking price in a marketplace and where would be a
likely destination?
Speaker 3 (19:18):
I mean, you know, it's if he's willing to make
a commitment. You know, obviously this isn't a tampering situation.
If somebody's interested in securing Matt Stafford's services, then I
am sure of the RAMS would allow permission to speak
to him. And I think if he's willing to commit
for a period of time and rework the contract in
(19:41):
a way that's to your liking. I mean, you look
at what people like Derek Carr got, you know what
I mean, like it. It's got to be way in
excess on that on a short term deal, a two
or three year deal, right, it's got to be in
excess of what Gino got in Seattle. I mean, it's
(20:05):
it's probably I think it's on part with what Cousins
did when he signed with the Vikings originally, right, that
sort of original three year, fully guaranteed deal. Not the
money's going to be more because a lot of times
past since then. But I think it's something in terms
of what it counts against the cap, it's probably similar
(20:27):
to that Cousins deal, probably, you know a little bit more.
I mean as to whom, I mean, the guys in
New York with the Giants are on borrowed time. You know,
where they ended up being able to pick one might
not be ideal, so that might make sense for them.
(20:49):
The Steelers, you know, could be an interesting could be
an interesting spot for him. I mean, I think you know,
the Browns and Titans are probably be drafting them. But yeah,
I mean the Raiders. I mean, would you rather have
Matt Stafford or Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson?
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Right?
Speaker 3 (21:10):
I mean is that even a question? Is that even
we even bulling that? Like, that's Matt Stafford all day long?
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Yeah, this shows you how bad the crop of qbs
are is. Where we should be talking about Rogers and
Wilson retiring in the end of the and instead it's hey,
these guys, here are the five best fits for them.
It's like, wow, that's a really bad offseason for quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Where we are, That's where we are, and that's why again,
if they do just let Sam Donald look, at least
make somebody prime out of your hands, right, Like, at
least make somebody sign them to an offer sheet on
a transition tag. And now you've got five days to
sit on it and make them squirm. And while you're
making them squirm, other people, you know, are are ostensibly
(21:51):
coming off the market or other teams are going to
have to decide, you know, what's going Okay, well, what
if he's here, what if he's not here? What are
we going to do if they met? I mean, I
don't know. I mean, if the Raps were willing to
do that with Lamar Jackson. You know, why would the
Vikings not do that? Here?
Speaker 4 (22:12):
But anyway, is Jason locking For with us one O
five set of the fan in Baltimore, Odyssey Washington Post
at Jason locking For on Twitter joining us Jason Smith,
Mike Harmon here from the Tirack dot com Fox Sports
Radio Studios that takes us to Cincinnati. Joe Burrow Squeaky
Wheel trying to make sure that some grease actually gets
(22:33):
used by the Cincinnati brass. T Higgins the first Domino
to fall. Does he get another franchise tag with a
hope that they can sign him long term or what
happens in his situation.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
I'll believe that. When I say it, I mean it's
it's you talk about all that now because you know
you've got two weeks to try to you know, when
you to make this decision, or you know, two more
weeks to basically exclusively to go with him before you
lose that for the league year and before everybody you know,
got the combine and then everybody's camping with everybody, Like
(23:09):
I think he'd be livid and outraged if it happened.
I think it would be really weird to just think
about what you could have got him for two years
ago and now basically playing fifty million dollars for two
years and then still you know, be at now bigger
risk than ever for him to walk after this year.
I mean, yes, it buys you until the middle of July,
(23:31):
but that didn't get him anywhere last year. And after
Jamar Chase gets his whatever he gets, Higgins is going
it's just going to continue to you know that rising
tide lifts all ships. I how do they let it
get to this point in the first place. If they
wanted these two around, why didn't you pay the freight
(23:52):
a year ago or two years ago or both, and
you'd you'd be having them at over time a value
in a bar and compared to what you'd have to
do after two franchise tags for Higgins, and you know,
Jamar Chase getting this deep into his situation, right, it
just doesn't make any sense. It's it's all very counterintuitive.
(24:14):
That's why for me to hear them talking talk now
about a second bag. I mean, you're still trying to
get a deal done, You're trying to exert any leverage
you have, But I don't know I mean you'd be
talking about next year, you know what, one of them
at twenty seven, twenty eight, and then the other one's
(24:35):
going to want thirty something. I mean, it can be done,
but Mike Brown's the guy to do it.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
I mean maybe, Well, it's like I got a theory
on this, Jay and follow me, follow me on this.
Is that you know the Higgins thing. Yes, you're right.
They could have done it.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
They really wanted to. All of a.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
Sudden this offseason, Joe Burrow was standing up saying, Okay,
you need to keep keep the talent coming in and
keep us at the point where we're going to compete,
or if not, when my contract up, I'm gone. And
I and we didn't really start hearing about t Higgins
until Joe Burrow decided to say, Hey, I'll take less money,
I'll move some money around, I'll do this. I feel
(25:09):
like he's now at the point where now I can
pressure the Bengals into continuing to make us compete, and
if not, when his contract is up, it's hey, guess what,
I'm going to hit free agency and it's going to
be the biggest free agent quarterback.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
Thing in the year coming that's coming. But that doesn't
mean they're going to capitulate now. I mean, I've been
writing about that in Washington Post off season long. I mean,
this has been telegraphed, This has been orchestrated in telegraph,
and I wrote about it months ago. It was going
to come. This was going to be the off season
of Joe burrow ultimatums and perhaps the off season of
Joe Burrow's discontent. I don't know how having those two
(25:46):
guys at that price point, though, when they need a
rebuild offensive line and a rebuilt defensive line, and if
they pay those two, there's no way in hell they're
paying Hendrickson. And the defense was least they forget. They
were putting up thirty points a game and losing routinely
because of the defense. So I don't know. I maybe,
(26:12):
but I don't know. And Joe Burrow's years away from
his next extent, you know, his next inflection point, and
like they'll just franchise that hit twice. Now. I do
think this ends poortanly. I do think this ends in
Carson Palmer two point zero. And I don't think we're
there this offseason. I don't think we're there for a
couple of off seasons. But I think he will feel
(26:35):
let down, and at this point, honestly, from a team
building standpoint and where they are organizationally and roster wise,
and with how poorly they've drafted the last couple of years,
and with how often Joe Burrow's been hurt, and with
how middling their offensive linestill is and everything, all three
levels of defense they'd hurt need help. And this quarterback
is so good you should be able to develop another
(26:56):
Rod receiver, not even one who's taken in the first
round like Higgins, right, I mean, isn't that part of
the reason why you pay these quarterbacks that much? So again,
maybe they will tag him. I'll believe it when I
say it.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
He's on Twitter at Jason lock and four That is,
at Jason lock and for Odyssey one oh five seven
the fan in Baltimore, Washington Post. Jay is always buddy,
Appreciate it man, Happy franchise tag day.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
We'll talk to you next week, right back, Thank you, Jason.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
I mean, I realized the more the time goes on
with the Vikings, just hearing the way Kevin O'Connell talks
two months ago, for sure they're gonna tag them. They're
not gonna want to lose them.
Speaker 4 (27:32):
They're gonna make sen But just those two games at
the end of the year were just so bad that
flipped the narrative. But not only that, it gave the
vikings and out to say, well, we really don't want
to have these two guys again.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
We're postponing our future. Are we gonna stick with Donald?
Are we gonna go with JJ McCarthy. It's a mess
and there's gotta be a little bit of relief. Weird
to say that, but a little bit of Okay. Donald
really was bad at the end, So if we said
goodbye to him, okay, it's not gonna be the big
blowback we thought. We're not gonna look like we're saying
goodbye to a god that's next level. If he won
a couple of games for us at the end, it
(28:03):
would have been a tougher decision. Now they have an out,
and I feel like they're capitalized on that by every
time Kevin o'connas is yeah, great, Yeah, he loves Sam.
Sam good, Hey, Sam had a great year. Boy. We
love JJ McCarthy, loved it. I feel like if they
were gonna franchise Sam Darnod before they figured something else out.
We would have heard that by now, so they just
seem eminently okay with We're gonna let you at free
agency and go find a great deal someplace and and
(28:27):
good luck. You were great with us for a year,
but we drafted JJ McCarthy for a reason, so that's
the way we're gonna go.
Speaker 3 (28:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
The curiosity, right McCarthy, is there are all these reports
he was around the team and he's soaking everything up,
and they love that part of it. It's all just
a question of where he is physically right and can
you get him up to speed ready to go. You
and I both saw the Captain America movie over the weekend,
so the question is, you know, what's how do we
(28:53):
bulk them up? How do we get him ready to go?
That's two knee surgeries, that's a lot of inactivity and CouchSurfing,
and you can only do so many simulations on video
games to give you any kind of value. We joked
about it and wonder allowed, well, can you find strike
lightning you know again? Can it strike again with Daniel
(29:13):
Jones who you added for a song. I think that's
a big reach, but potentially there you might think you're
the smartest guy in the room. After all, you are
the coach of the year.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
You're turning it up. I mean, if you're saying about
you're turning it over to macarthy.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
You know.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
No, I don't say he may need to be that guy,
but you have to feel secure that he can, you know,
build that bridge for him to McCarthy. And it would
really be painful in this quarterback economy to watch Sam
Darnold walk out the door to the waiting arms of
a Sean McVay or up to the Bay Area for
(29:45):
or whatever.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
They were just saying, the Sam Darnald free agency madness.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
It's crazy gonna happen. No, but that's just it. Sam
such Wilson, Rogers and whatever happens, and the other three guys,
they're not even close a year ago. You tell me, hey,
the biggest name in here free agency is gonna be
Sam Donald, and the and the frenzy to get him
is gonna be huge.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
I'd say, come on, man, this is not this earth.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
I mean, he can show back up as a giant
save Brian Dable and Shane in the same locker room
that he failed in before.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
Time Now to find out what's trending in the wide
world of sports. A man who's been called the Sam
Darnold of Fox Sports Radio. Took him a few years,
but wow, look how good he was last year. It's
Steve Desager.
Speaker 5 (30:32):
Yeah, let's just forget about week eighteen.
Speaker 1 (30:35):
I do want to talk to you about your your
final two weeks of the regular season performance.
Speaker 5 (30:39):
Yeah, that's not gonna come up in negotiations in the offseason.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
Very good in the least.
Speaker 5 (30:43):
We got two minutes left in regulation at Hockey's Four
Nations faceoff game in Boston. Now the Americans two to
zero in this mini tournament. We're up one nothing after
the first minute. They've been down two to one since
the first period to Sweden, which has a couple overtime
losses in this tourney each team, the way it works,
three tournament games. The US is ending the round robin
portion tonight. We know with the two wins to start,
(31:05):
the Americans will be in the Thursday night finale, the
championship game against Canada, which today advanced with a five
to three victory over Finland. It was for nothing in
the third period. Backup Jake Ottinger started in goal for
the US tonight under two minutes to go, and now
the goalie is taking a seats extra attacker on Sweden.
Speaker 4 (31:25):
Starting for the mister free Let's go. He was in
a couple of Badman episodes.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
Is right at Revenger the old director Jake Ottinger, No,
thank you, but no NHL.
Speaker 4 (31:39):
All Star.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Bowl in uh In, Harry Potter, I think you're right.
Speaker 5 (31:46):
Uh. The NHL is off as a league for almost
two weeks until this Saturday. There is no NHL All
Star Game this year because of this tournament, as you mentioned. Meanwhile,
we had that smashing NBA All Star weekend is finally
concluded last night. They're off until Wednesday's makeup game Hornets
at Lakers. Most NBA teams return to play on Thursday night.
(32:07):
In men's college basketball, about three weeks left in the
regular season, Number three ranked Duke is twenty three and
three after winning at Virginia easily tonight eighty to sixty two,
and at Baylor, the Bears have had twenty two to
nineteen in the first half against nineteenth ranked Arizona. Auburn
is ranked number one for the sixth straight week. Florida
up to number two coming up Friday night on Fox
(32:28):
TV number twelve Michigan hosts number fourteen Michigan State. The
A's gave manager Mark Cottse a three year extension. Mike
Trouted the Angels is switching to right field to try
to stay healthy after fourteen years in centerfield. He'll also
DH a little and then the Bengals planned a franchise
tag wide receiver T Higgins again this year. And in
Miami at Kansas City soccer game has been moved from
(32:50):
Tuesday to Wednesday due to snow. It'll still be about
five degrees on Wednesday night, but no snow. Game two
of that series will be in Fort Lauderdale next week
in about seventy degree whether But.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
Galaxy haven't even had their parade to win the championship yet,
we're already starting the next season.
Speaker 5 (33:05):
Actually, they did have their moment. I don't think there
was any parading going on. There was no movement. There
was just a stage and people cheering after they won
the MLS title.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
But yes, the.
Speaker 5 (33:16):
MLS regular season does begin this Saturday with Lionel Messi
and Miami hosting New York City. But this tournament opening
series I was mentioning in the CONCACAFF Champions Cup. That's attorney.
That includes ten major league soccer teams. So Messi's gonna
play the coldest game of his career at Kansas City
on Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
Back to you, Thank you, Steve O. The Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. We got a
big NFL story on the way in a few minutes.
But straight ahead, not one, but two baseball stories are
gonna make you go, oh wow, maybe a superstar could
be had because maybe he's not happy with his team
after what happened his weekend. That's next, Jason and Mike Fox.
(33:59):
It's probably Yankee Montas getting hurt.

(34:36):
a best of version posted right after we get off
the air. Well, today was a big day for baseball headlines.
And no I'm not even talking about oh the Aaron Judge,
Wan Soto stuff.
Speaker 4 (34:47):
No, no, stuff like is whoa this could big time
effect the season and teams just getting to camp. First
things first with the Yankees Jim Carlos Stanton, right now,
I'm waiting for the bulletin that says he's done for
the season. He has not swung a bat in a month.
He has really bad injuries to.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
Both of his elbows, and a timetable for his return
has not been put out there. This reminds me so
much of the joy assessmentis oh yeah, calcified heels. No,
guess what I'm out for the whole year, Like you're
in spring training and his elbows are this bat, his
elbows are bad, he can't swing a bat. What kind
of season is he really gonna happen? Plaid through it
(35:30):
last year. So we're always trying to find clarity, right,
there's always the story behind the scenes, right, I remember
in Chicago Frank Thomas was having an awful season. You
started to hear whispers of what was going on in
his personal life. I remember actually having that question posed
to me by Bill Russell at a book signing. Yes,
that's the basketball player or the baseball play, the basketball
(35:53):
the legend, and then we ended up. He asked me
to sit behind the table.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
We talked White Sox, baseball and just baseball in general
as he continued to sign books. Very strange, but you
don't know what's what's going on, and with Stanton, all
of a sudden, it's like, Wow, you played through it
last year. You get to spring training and you've had
what is it, five months, and you're still at a
level where you can't get things started. Just light hitting,
light workouts. Yeah, big problem for the Like.
Speaker 1 (36:19):
Really, I'm not going to be surprised to find out
he's out for the year at some point, or that
he's going to be out for a long time. They
don't know when he's gonna come back, and you're thinking
All Star break where and then you find out at
some point in the spring, hey, he's not gonna be
able to play this show start what's the injury?
Speaker 4 (36:35):
Like this is different, right, Like we're used to torn
labriams and shoulder injuries and always think elbow injury for
a for an outfield double elbow injury. Right, yeah, but
both right, Like, so, what's going on? We got some
nerve stuff we got, uh, just repetitive stress disorders. Had's
gotten that bad. I'm just curious, Like this is just
(36:56):
a new one on the on the radar.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (36:58):
So the Yanches could be without a guy they really
need after a big deal. Let want Sodo go, Hey,
we're counting on you. Nope, I mean it. I'm not
gonna be surprised to find out he's gonna eventually be
out for the year. Now, maybe you can replace him,
because potentially there could be a big time all star
player with a three hundred million dollar contract who wants out.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
A few days ago, Red Sox signed Alex Pregman right
three year, hundred twenty million dollar contract. Yeah right, sure,
you're talking about someone who still hits somewhat elitely, still
plays incredibly elite third base. Great signing problem is.
Speaker 6 (37:32):
You already had a pretty good guy. You gave three
hundred million dollars to a couple of years ago. Rafael
Devers is terrific he's twenty eight and he's twenty eight, right,
it's not the Bregman's thirty one, twenty eight, but but.
Speaker 4 (37:45):
He's twenty eight and really just kind of getting start,
finally getting his legs. Yeah, yeah, no, if I'm feeling
good about things.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
And his reaction after getting Alex Bregman was third base
is my position. Quote, It's what I play. I don't
know what their plans are. We had a conversation. I
made it clear on what my desires were. Whatever happens
from here, I don't know. He was asked he's willing
to become a DH dever said no before his interpreter
(38:14):
even asked him the question able to say. He just said,
you're the DH. He sounds like he's he's he he
would if you had a choice, Hey, would you rather
be out somewhere else and play third base? His answer
would be yes, Like he does not. This does not
sound like this is gonna be some kind of sunshine
lollipops and Rainbow's answer, where Hey, we're gonna figure things out.
(38:35):
You'll DH a little bit. And this is on the
Red Sox for not knowing their player. Yeah, he gave
him three hundred million dollars. You gotta know, right, you
gotta know what the reaction is. Ah, we'll figure it out,
we'll figure it out. Now it's gonna be, Oh, you're
gonna ask a gold glover from third to move from
third base? Okay, that's gonna wind up being The situation
is that they're gonna have to If he's saying I'm
not moving, I'm not moving, he's gonna be a problem
(38:56):
and he's not gonna be happy, and he's not gonna
play well, and he's not gonna hit because happy player
is a good player and he is not gonna be happy.
So now it's gonna be bregmant to move, and it's
like why you Hey, this guy's money. Not now he's
gonna move, He's gonna go play some play. The guy's
a better fielder, right, The guy's a better fielder. The
Red Sox are in up huge quandary right now, and
I wouldn't be surprised if this comes to it. You
(39:16):
don't know what Bregman's gonna field. Wait, something, i gotta move,
Like how much was that the conversation? Yeah, you might
play second base. Whoa whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa whoa, whoa.
If I'm a team that needs a third baseman, I'm
calling the Red Sox tonight and saying, hey, uh you
got an issue there, we'll take on that contract.
Speaker 4 (39:32):
What do you want? Which guy are you more stressed about?
Speaker 3 (39:34):
Right?
Speaker 4 (39:34):
Yeah, what do you want the guy you just signed
and introduced or the guy that was already there?
Speaker 1 (39:39):
Well, you're paying you're paying devas more money over a
longer period of time, so I would think, and he's
the guy more upset. I would think he's the guy
more available.
Speaker 4 (39:45):
Well, but it becomes the all right, you just spin
off break We like you, you're younger and like not
not quite the fielder, and all of those things that
certainly you figure out the metrics and where where that
comes together. But yeah, it's like, oh wow, what a
great signing. And then this story drops of hey, no,
(40:07):
I'm not moving like that guy. Wait what Okay, like
you said, I'm not dhing, I'm not doing this like wow.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
You got to know your player and you had to
know that this was gonna be the response if you
went after Alex pregnant and you went after him anyway,
and okay, good luck now because now you had now
it's a thing. Now, this has become a thing, and
you have to find a way to make it work.
And you have one guy that's not happy already, and
you may have another guy that's not happy. You have
two guys who aren't happy.
Speaker 4 (40:33):
It's fantastic. And then you got the Angels where you
take a guy who used to be a gold glove
center fielder. I'm moving the right field. Why maybe I
can stay healthy? Uh, that is a different topic we'll
get into next time. About that for a metal stand
BAA making it the top three, Nope, But coming up
next we will ask the biggest question coming off of
(40:53):
NBA All Star Weekend, and it's not about the game.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
That's next Fox.
Speaker 2 (40:58):
Fox Sports Radio. That's the best sports talk lineup in
the nation yet. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports
Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR

Speaker 1 (41:10):
Kitchen and he says, I said, hey, did you watch
to keep telling me you got to watch Paradise? And
he goes, no, I haven't. I said, you're just a
jerk because you got how do you.
Speaker 4 (41:18):
Call me a lazy piece of ass?
Speaker 3 (41:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (41:19):
I did, because you asked me all what have you
seen anything good? I tell you what to watch ever watching,
Yet you didn't even tell the fact you had Steve
and you watched me like a monkey in here trying
to find the stuff you hit from me. Oh, he's said,
that's a different that's a story for another day. Wait, wave,
that's a story for another Steve naughty, okay, but then
it's a whole other thing. Hit my stuff.
Speaker 4 (41:35):
He comes in and he says, did you see enos Ferritu?
Speaker 1 (41:38):
I saw? I said, oh, you know, he's telling me
how good it was. He had, no, I haven't seen
yet all ye, I said. I do want to see
it though, And now it's streame, I'll get to see it.
He goes, oh great. By the way, fifteen minutes go by,
fifteen minutes go by, come in before the show starts.
Frostburg's back tonight after.
Speaker 3 (41:51):
Being out last year.
Speaker 4 (41:52):
You know, far Too is a whole different genre.
Speaker 1 (41:55):
Well it's well, it's it's a different kind of vampire movie.
There's no there's no ward glistening.
Speaker 4 (42:01):
Oh good. He looks with the with the.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
Sparkles on him and and ty shirt says, uh. Tiger goes,
this is fifteen minutes later, and I said, and he's
gotten us Feratu on on the TV. And here I go,
I said, you have I heard it? Nos Feratu? His
family called him Clay. I'm gonna call him Clay. I
heard it, nots Ferreto. I'm gonna call him a's Feratu.
So so nots Ferritu is on and I go, are
you watching this again?
Speaker 3 (42:22):
And he know?
Speaker 4 (42:23):
He says to me.
Speaker 1 (42:23):
He goes, oh my god, yes, did you see it?
And I look at him and I go, oh my
good dude. We had a conversation about this fifteen minutes ago,
and I said I hadn't seen it yet, and tyser,
I've kindly forgot or either just didn't care if anybody
else said this, And you're really busy. He had a
lot of fifteen minutes and then I hit his stuff.
Speaker 4 (42:41):
Do you know what that is psychologically, the trauma that
you caused him?
Speaker 3 (42:45):
I did.
Speaker 1 (42:45):
Okay, Now for another story, since since you wanted to
bring that up.
Speaker 4 (42:48):
Well, it came up. By the way, it's streaming later
on this week, so I'll be able to watch it
on one of my mind. I think its streaming. Well,
you gotta pay for it right.
Speaker 1 (42:56):
Now, Oh, it's streaming free as part of the servant
right right now, it's rent or by right right now,
right but later on this week if you have the service. Okay,
they don't pay me, So I'm I'm gonna wait for that. Okay,
So I'm gonna wait for that. Then I'll watch nos Faratu.
Then i'll watch No for two in rewatch, watch.
Speaker 4 (43:17):
Too early for nose Faratu man. I once saw on
Edward Scissorhands parody, Yes Faratu?
Speaker 1 (43:25):
Where did you hear that?
Speaker 4 (43:26):
Where did I hear?
Speaker 1 (43:27):
What? How you're saying the word? That's how I've been
saying it since it was a characters in my movie
saying in the twenties Jason. I'm not gonna say like
I'm a local news anchor that needs to say something
in the accent because it just sounds better when I
do that.
Speaker 4 (43:43):
It's actually how you're supposed to pronounce.
Speaker 1 (43:44):
It's not if I call you no, but you know
my name is No. But I hear JS. Okay, now
you're Jayson. That's fine.
Speaker 4 (43:54):
Does he spell with two s's like Jason Dominguez and
the New York a lot worse than just no. That
is true. We've got plenty of receipts, even from last week.
By the way, that Caitlyn Clark thing like eighty thousand views, No,
make it all of you out there globally for one day.
Speaker 1 (44:09):
That made that go powerful. You were out five days,
Frostburg file. You have to playing the whole NBA problem
on Cat and Clark. Yeah I heard that.
Speaker 4 (44:17):
No, no, no, that was somebody else.
Speaker 1 (44:20):
I'll tell you. Really, nobody had a worse weekend than
the NBA. I mean really, because I mean, just like
we knew how bad the All Star gets. It's not
like the All Star Game has been great. The All
Star Game has been what it's been, but yet this weekend,
for some reason, it just garnered a lot more hatred
from the media. I'm like, it's not like we had
great All Star games and this year, hey we're doing
something different.
Speaker 4 (44:40):
Now it looks terrible. This has been the All Star Game.
I feel like a start with the Sun Times back
of the day, what day it's Tuesday? The players Rhinestorf call.
Speaker 1 (44:50):
The players were much more vocal about their opposition to
this game, and I think that's what made a lot
of people jump off on it. But I'm like, we've
seen the All Star Game the last few years like, really,
you're manufacturing how how upset you are because it's we've
seen a lot of bad stuff.
Speaker 4 (45:04):
Man. It's like if I had stuff, if I Dennis Hopper,
if they're bad things, man, bad things. Like if I
eat three bad pizzas in a row and I have
a fourth bad pizza, I'm not gonna jump up and
down on that fourth pizza.
Speaker 1 (45:18):
It's gonna be well, I've had bad pizza the last
four times. Man, I'm just a Tuesday Man's four pizza.
It's a four pizza, Tuesday couch pizza, right, yeah, couch pizza.
I eat four cheese, three cheese. I don't need it.
But I mean, I feel like the media said, okay,
(45:40):
let's just blow up the All Star Game and how
much I hated it because I can't come up with
anything else, when realistically it's just be this is the
All Star Game, and yes you're upset, but I don't
know what you want it to be. Draymond Green going
nuts about how hey, I can't believe these rookies get
to play on a Sunday on a Sunday night, and
all I could think back is to the wire when
when Avon Barksdale says, they shot my mom's head on
(46:03):
a Sunday on a Sunday. Because I have a Sunday
truce on a Sunday, you get to play.
Speaker 4 (46:07):
On it Sunday night. Come on, I mean, this is
what it is. You don't care about the game.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
I feel like this is a completely made up controversy. Yeah,
it's the All Star Game. It's not great, No leagues
have great all this is not new, but I feel
like people just discovering this this weekend. Now, it's good
that Frostburg has been off for five days because now
you have a way to solve it. I had a
lot of time to think about this. Okay, okay, why
do you solve the All Star Game? Well, you summon
the losers to having to watch Mets and Jets games.
(46:36):
Oh you know what a guarantee they show up, one
of those teams is gonna be good this year. The
other one, not winner, doesn't have to watch the way
you don't have to watch the Jets.
Speaker 4 (46:45):
Well, I mean the Mets got some run in the
fiftieth anniversary special, sure, sure, well, positive positivity about when
they were winning.
Speaker 1 (46:52):
Yeah, when was that? And Chico Asuela, when was that?
Speaker 4 (46:55):
It was very very early.
Speaker 3 (46:59):
But no.
Speaker 1 (47:00):
But look, the big thing that I wanted to get
into with the All Star Game, and this is what
really surprises me is that, Yeah, I mean, everybody's complaining
over something that you've known has been bad.
Speaker 4 (47:08):
And this is what.
Speaker 1 (47:09):
You can't ask the All Star Game to be something
it's not, and everybody seems to want that.
Speaker 4 (47:12):
You don't like.
Speaker 1 (47:14):
But here's a surprising thing. Mac McClung wins his third
All Star Game dunk title. Yeah, wins his third title.
The guy's played in five games in three years. Okay,
how is he not played in more than five games?
This guy is an NBA star. Now, you can debate
whether he should be or not, but when the All
(47:35):
Star Game comes around, he's a star because he wins
a slam dunk contest. I don't know why he hasn't
played just because he's a fan favorite. People want to
see him. I want to see him dunk in a
bleeping game. I don't know why a team hasn't traded
for him that would put him on the floor to say, hey,
Mac mcclungin's, oh great, this guy. Maybe he's got some game,
maybe do a little bit. How has he played in
(47:56):
five games in three years. Like this guy, this is
a big player, he's a big personality. People talk about play.
There's interest in seeing him, and you're telling me there's
no place in the NBA for him to play. They
can't find a way to get him on the floor. Really,
I mean again, five games in three years? Like, is
he that far by? Bronni has played more than he has.
Bronni has played.
Speaker 4 (48:16):
Here's the G League MVP. I mean twenty five seven,
four point seven, six point six. I don't understand eight
thirty point games. He is a he is a big
fan favorite. I would trade for him or play him
just for the attention. I'd get a bottom feet or team.
You could do a lot worse.
Speaker 1 (48:33):
Right, let the go. Maybe he's really good. And again
I go back to the fact that this is the NBA.
Who is seeing a star player that has impact on
the game. And it's yeah, okay, we're okay with you're
not playing.
Speaker 4 (48:45):
Wow, really, come on, man, come on, I'm all about
eyeballs right. Conversation Brandon editing for us and you know
it does some production work in the back before before
we got on Eric, you know, just talking about the
the whole Bronni James experiment, and everybody his name came
up a bunch over the weekend. But the idea that
(49:07):
the Lakers made money on that, whether he actually ever
plays well develops into an NBA player, doesn't matter. He
got a lot of buzz. You made his old man happy,
and the poison pens come out fine, But you're used
to those. I mean, you just kind of shrug and
you move on. But you made money off that move
from mac McClung. I would agree with you. If you're
one of these teams that's at the bottom rungs of
(49:30):
either conference, you can do a lot worse. And I
don't know that he can bring out the ladders or
guys to spin on little discus discusses, or the little
hoverboards and everything. I don't think those are allowed. But
that's okay. Maybe there's a little juicy either that, or
I mean, this might be the way to work. It
(49:51):
is that he stays in the shadows all year. Now,
if you're a G League fan, you get to watch
him go to work. But otherwise, here he is. He's
a man who's gonna save the game. Now, did he
actually prompt these guys will these guys now be held
to it. I mean, did you put it in? Was
that a contract signed by Jahn Morant and Jannis and
Tenna goombo By going on Twitter going boy, this couldn't
(50:12):
make me want to do this, and Zach Lavine said
I could get back into is that enough? Can we
hold them to that? I hold their key to the
fire and sit next year you're dirty rotten and oh wait,
Ja Morant doesn't want to dunk during the regular season.
I get that he couldn't be broken in half. This
could work.
Speaker 1 (50:30):
I think we actually actually need to be and televised
actually physically holding their feet to the fire. I have
a big fire, hold their feet to it and make
them say something like that's interesting. Well it's an old
episode of Fear Factor, or you know, maybe Survivor shows
that we can do a crossover event.
Speaker 4 (50:46):
But no, I like that. It just seems that that's
you're with your McClung. It's it's an a modest proposal. Uh,
just for one of these squads to go give the
people what to want. But he's not gonna be able
to dunk all the time. But is he a quad
a quad a player? Is he that guy? That can't
get out of Triple A and into the bay.
Speaker 1 (51:08):
At least got to gi him a chance, Like that's
I mean, like maybe he's not good, right, and maybe
he's not, but you gotta see the floor to he
can start for the knicks and if he can't stop,
he could he could come off the bench, you know what.
Speaker 4 (51:18):
So they do need some some bench players.
Speaker 1 (51:20):
But like the Magic, he can't get on the floor
with the Magic, which okay, the Magic aren't bad and
they're on the way up, but wow, you really can't
get on the floor at the Magic in three years? Okay,
how about you find a way to get him to
a to a bottom feeder or a lesser team where
he can actually see some minutes because people would buy
his jersey, people would watch him. Maybe you get a
big mac McClung dunk, like how do you have a start?
(51:41):
And you're okay with him just sitting idly buying, not
being utilized at all.
Speaker 4 (51:45):
I don't make him a wizard.
Speaker 1 (51:46):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (51:47):
I don't come on it right, it all rights itself,
the copywriting for your PR, marketing and ticket sales.
Speaker 1 (51:53):
He he's a wizard.
Speaker 4 (51:54):
I I really, you've never seen a guy like this,
which is true.
Speaker 1 (52:00):
Really, I mean five games. I you know, in the
beginning when you're back and forth with the G League,
which is kind of what he's been started off with
the South Bay Lakers. Eyes like, yeah, okay, yeah, you
need some time, right, everybody's done. Three years later, got
a slam dun champion, pretty athletic. Maybe you can play
a few minutes. Maybe you could play, and if you can't,
get him to a team where hey, we don't care,
we got minutes for you. We're terrible, you're awful. No,
(52:23):
or hey, well you can start for us. What does
it matter, We're gonna lose anyway. But you could play
thirty minutes. Maybe you score thirty points. Maybe maybe you
maybe get a couple of rim rattling dunks, so you
getting the open floor. We get to like, how does
he How has he not seen the floor yet? Because
for all players, right, that even show a little bit
of something you don't know about him until they actually
(52:43):
get on the field. Right, For a quarterback, he could
struggle in preseason, he can struggle as a rookie, we
don't know, might not be ready, but you don't know
about him till you see him on the field and
give him a chance to play like Matt mcclungin's, Uh,
you don't really know about him ntil you give him
a chance and not saying he's got to jump in
and start playing heavy minutes for a title content. You know,
I'm just saying, go to Oklahoma City and start alongside
sg A. But like you know, if Orlando's not going
(53:05):
to use them, if you're another you gotta find a
way to get You got to find a way to
get him to your team. Saying hey, we can use him,
we can see minutes. The NBA would be very Yeah,
let's go, let's make this trade happen. What are you
doing like the invisible hand, like your nose for a.
Speaker 4 (53:19):
Shadow on the wall? I saw the commercial. I haven't
seen it instid doing shadow puppets.
Speaker 1 (53:23):
So you can do the dog.
Speaker 4 (53:24):
You can do that.
Speaker 3 (53:25):
You can do the bird.
Speaker 4 (53:29):
You can never get the rabbit right though in the
it's a big teeth. I can't get that. Yeah, I
can't get that. But the bird my favorite? The bird. Well,
you always did like dancing the bird, That's true. What
do you go for us?
Speaker 1 (53:39):
You don't think mac has uh?
Speaker 4 (53:41):
Two weeks on Jeremy Lenningham for The New York Next. No, No,
off the bench.
Speaker 1 (53:46):
Yeah, because we because we really need guys off the bench.
Speaker 4 (53:49):
We're the best.
Speaker 1 (53:49):
Starting five in the NBA.
Speaker 4 (53:51):
I never we don't have jump, which it doesn't matter.
Jals like that.
Speaker 1 (53:56):
Uh dude, I want to say, what about a backcourt
for the Lakers of mclu and Bronnie. Let's have that
out there.
Speaker 4 (54:02):
Let's just roll with it, just go The Lakers are
my problem.
Speaker 1 (54:05):
Yeah, I will.
Speaker 4 (54:06):
Say this just you know, the tangential All Star weekend,
just to close it. Since Jalen Brunson's name came up,
the number of people that wrote accounts of running into
him at restaurants and outside whever and him pausing and
talking to them and just being a guy. Right, not Hey,
I'm an All Star and I'm here and I'm a celebrity.
(54:28):
The respect level definitely goes up, Like just all the
great he may have. Yeah, that three point shootout? Man,
you want to talk about an event that you know
may have seen its best day.
