Smith and his best friend Mike Carmen right here on
Fox Sports the Radio. The man with the biggest biceps
in all of sports Radio, Jhusty, How you doing?
Speaker 3 (00:48):
How you're doing? What do you curl? Curl right now?
For power Late the ninety ninety fives, Okay, I do
ninety six.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (00:58):
Love this kid at the barbo Yeah. I use the
Bargo individual dumbbells. I can like I'm about fifty, but
the Barbelle I used like ninety ninety five. Man fight,
that's my friend. I was just going tonight, man, what's happening?
My friends?
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Out standing. I'm blessed to be here.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
I tell you all the time, Harni, you are one
of my favorite people on God's Green Earth to do
sports talk radio with me because we flow, we have
a lot of fun. We're both we're both mindless dolphin fans.
You know you don't like getting out the car when
people are shoving you out because you got on some
flip flops in the snow.
Speaker 6 (01:25):
Like.
Speaker 5 (01:25):
We both do wild stuff we probably shouldn't do. So
it's just great to be here. Man. Let's hold it
down for the fellas man, keep the fans happy, and
let's rock yeah. Later on in the show, of course,
Todd Furman is going to stop on by, especially when
the hockey game's over.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
He's going to talk about the game. We'll talk a
little gambling in Vegas. So he's only guess we scheduled
today because I know VJ has a lot to say
on this four hour bonanza. If you want to be
part of the show, real simple, the best way to
do it is through Twitter or x or whatever you
want to call it. Add big vanilla funny. I'm in
stinking genius one. I know I do this show with VJ.
(02:01):
We get a lot of tweets. We'll try to keep
up and uh, you know, we'll keep your eye and
then we'll keep an eye on the game. Also, right now,
less than three minutes left in the second Canada to
USA two. I gotta tell you, VJ. A week ago,
I had no idea that this tournament was even really
taking place. I knew that there was a four nations tournament,
(02:21):
but I didn't really know which four nations were. And
I know USA and Canada was I didn't I didn't
know what the feel and the vibe was going to be.
I don't even think the players knew that the feeling
the vibe was going to be this big. But this
has lived up to everything. What a what a great
thing to have right in the middle of the season.
(02:42):
I've loved every moment of this USA Canada game. Yeah, absolutely,
but I gotta disagree on just two points. Feeling, vibe, No,
these players know and uh you know, special special alert,
special announcement to the NBA players. This is what it
looks like when you kind of have nothing to play for,
but you still kind of have everything to play for.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
This is what it looks like, gentlemen, these guys, this
is USA and Canada hockey. And I'll try to act
like I'm the most avid hockey fan, but I know
I watch a lot more NHL than most radio guys
even here, right, you know, I watch a lot of hockey.
I love this what I'm a Ranger fan. I love
them watching My Rangers. Grew up around the Capitol, So
I was in the DMV when Alas Withvechkin first got there.
From the years they were terrible for like fifteen twenty
(03:26):
straight years they were terrible. To get Alex with Vetchkin boom,
They're selling out the Capital Center out there in the
NCI Center, So you get a sense of the country pride.
It's bigger in hockey, man, and I think almost anything
else in sports. Think about it. We don't have football
in the Olympics, right basketball? Is it really? Do they
really still have that prior? Can we really just trot
(03:47):
the world's best twelve guys out there? Yeah, Spain, you'll
give us a little run. Yeah, Australia, you'll give us
a little run. But at the end of the day,
who's gonna hold the gold medal? It's gonna be USA.
Can we just have the better guys Hockey's not like
you have Russia, you got Sweden, you have Canada, you
have the USA, you have a lot of different countries
of Norway, you have a lot of different countriesmen that
are really really good. And that's what you get from
(04:10):
watching the NHL. So no, I think they know the field,
they know what this game means tonight, this thing right here, man, listen,
there was a pole question to these guys, what would
you rather have a victory over Canada, USA or Stanley Cup?
Could you imagine that being asked about the Super Bowl
or about in the NBAHA. No, they would take the
Super Bowl, they would take the NBA Championship. The fact
that it's a thought in hockey. Would you rather be
(04:34):
USA being Canada or Canada being USA? Are win Lord
Stanley And they go, I think that's what makes this great.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
You bring up basketball.
Speaker 4 (04:44):
Let me ask you this if you and forget about
what month it is, we're just doing the show today.
If the United States were let's say, playing the Soviet
Union in basketball and the winner takes all, and we
had the our version of the dream team out there,
and they had some big team and we were battling
back and forth with we have the vibe that we
have right now, I would think so, right we or
(05:04):
even bigger. I would think it'd be a bigger game
than that, right Or sounds cute, Arnie, But this isn't
This isn't the eighties.
Speaker 5 (05:11):
Okay, this is this isn't Doug the second Yes, this
isn't Doug Collins.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Okay, this isn't them being able to throw the ball
in bounds.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
And catch it all the way down the court and
get the game winning layup to steal the gold metaphor.
This isn't those times in basketball we can simply.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Try it out the twelve best.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
Players in the world collectively. Now we don't get you know, Luca,
we don't get Yannis. There's a lot of guys we
don't get. But we still have enough for you to
give us.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
A little run.
Speaker 5 (05:38):
Yeah, we got Steph Curry. Okay, who's going to hit
three straight threes in the gold medal game and.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Put you away? You don't have that we do in hockey.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
It's just different, man, in USA is Listen, there were
time we were getting all we were getting handed to us.
All right, now it's kind of turned weird. We're a
good program. They got a good thing going, man, But
I think it means the world. I do not think
the NBA. If they're playing rushing a gold me game,
you know, it gets a little juice, man, But you
know we're gonna win.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Did you ever think we're gonna lose the gold medal game?
I last year?
Speaker 4 (06:06):
No. No, of course it could have happened, but I
never really anticipated it. But let me ask you this that,
and I've brought this up before. It's could be a
tough say, but our hockey players more patriotic than them
than basketball players?
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Or is it just this like the perfect storm what
we're doing right now? I don't know.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
I don't know if I want to go there, because
I can't question that's like that's like trying to judge
whether players really hurt or not.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
I can't really judge someone's patriotism.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
Now.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
I do know NBA players that play that come from
another country, they go home and play.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
I know that they don't.
Speaker 5 (06:38):
They don't try to get USA citizen ship and be
to try to play for you know, the the guaranteed
gold medal. No, they go home to their countries and
they say, hey, we got a shot every year in
the Olympics, there's like six or seven countries that's got
a legitimate shot to win the gold medal. Every every
winner games. It's at the summer games. For basketball, it's
(07:00):
it's not that it's not that at all. Hey, we
were going we went in a goal. We're you know,
we have the best players where you know, we're with
the NBA. We're America now.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
Where you know what's crazy is a regular season hockey game.
And I know that Sega usually gives me the ratings
when we do the show Sunday night averages about a
million they give or take. Sometimes it's like eight hundred thousand.
Sometimes it's one point.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
Well, don't say about the business sabers, you know against uh,
you know, and well against the devils, you know the devils.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
Yeah, you might get low ratings on the game, right,
So let's just say about a million. We'll just go
ahead and move it on up. This last Saturday had
ten point one million viewers. That's ten times the attendance,
which the viewership, which by the way, shouldn't be higher tonight,
or at least close maybe a little bit more. It's
(07:52):
just astounding that you can have so many people and
for the most part, v Jay. It's a meaning goes
kay right, It's just more like an exhibition. This was
like the in place of the All Star Game. They're
they're not playing for the gold medal or anything.
Speaker 5 (08:06):
Like that, you know, but it feels like it, right,
it does, And it feels like it because it's still
Canada and US say go back and looking even on
the women's side, go back and look at those gold
medal matches in the Winter Games. Man, they're they're they're
down to you know, down to the last period, down
to the last minute, like this one is gonna be
two to one. USA looks and control Bennett top shelf
(08:27):
boom at the six minu mart and now we're tied
up to too and going into the third period. Who's
gonna close this bad thing? Who's gonna close it off?
Who's gonna who's gonna make the passes? Because on the
gold binness score we turn the ball the ball, sorry,
we turned the punk over in our own zone. You
can't do that against Canada. They're too fast, they're too skilled,
you're too accurate. And the pass pass and then he
(08:47):
goes into the goal top shelf.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
It was easy.
Speaker 5 (08:49):
The goalie didn't have a shot. By the time he reacted,
the punk was already by him that that who's gonna
make those mistakes? Who's gonna make those plays? And the
third I'm excited about it, man, this is better than
any been any All Star game.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
You watched last year. Actually, I got it. I got
it when I was I was working Sunday night. Most
of the time.
Speaker 5 (09:07):
I'm kidding around, but I think mostly I was curious
on this. I'm like, you know, Boston's only three and
a half hours from where I live.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
I had not known that I was going.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
To be filling in with you at the time when
I was doing the show Sunday night. So I'm like,
you know, maybe I'll drive down, enjoy some time down
in Boston, and go to the game. I'll give myself
a ticket and really, just I mean, enjoy this USA
Canada game. When I before USA and Canada were said
to be in the game, tickets were about seven eight
(09:39):
hundred dollars for the best seats after Canada had clinched it,
twenty eight hundred dollars three thousand dollars for the lower
tier seats. I'm like, are you crazy? Are you that's insane.
Speaker 5 (09:51):
Hey man, that tells you what kind of game it is.
That tells you what kind of game it is.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Arenie, right, this is great.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
This is great theater, and we need this right now
now right. If you look what's going on, there's football's
done right. So these are kind of like the dog
days of if you're not a huge college basketball head,
and if you're not a huge NBA head, you're really
searching for something to watch. I guess this is where
a lot of people start. Football fans start binge watching,
you know, Netflix series, or pick up a good book
(10:18):
and start reading at at night when you got some
downtime instead of sitting on a sofa because there's nothing
that you're really into to watch this, you throw country
flags on a really good sport. Hockey's always good when
you watch it. We just haven't called on to an
American for some reason. And I think it's even with
the NBA, I really do. I know the NBA pribat
might still out view them, maybe by a million, even
(10:39):
if half of that, I think. I think the average
NBA viewing I think is like one point three million.
So if we're giving them a million, and I'll settle
for a fifty nine hundred.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
You can have the million. I'll settle for eight fifty
nine hundred.
Speaker 5 (10:48):
But that's close the average hockey game being viewed in
America in twenty twenty five versus the average NBA game.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
It means all the.
Speaker 5 (10:58):
People on TV, all the talking has like instead are
talking about the game. You see the T and T
crew getting killed by everybody because they're calling out the
product and calling out the game. Hockey just puts the
product out there. They know where the stars are. They
market the stars, but they also market the game and
the team. The NBA, to me, got lost about ten
to fifteen years ago when we started marketing narratives and
ifs and what ifs, and he could have had this,
(11:19):
or he could have had that, or he had that
guy or he that has taken over and Brian win
Horse this time I've been saying since I've been a
Fox Sports radio for nine years. But Brian Winhorse echoed
this on TV the other day, and someone tweeted it
to me and said, man, I've been here as a
guy Fox Sports radio saying it's for about the last
six or seven years. They don't market the game, so
then why do we care about it right, right right.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
And of course it is about the stars out there.
And I was just about to ask you now that
we're done from the All Star weekend and ratings were
tremendously down.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
I think it was terrible.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
It was eighty percent from maybe the one of the
couple of years so much it was just a miserable
RATINGBA guy, you cover the.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Lakers, you go to the games, you see a.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Lot of the teams. What's going on here? What you
listen to the fans in the crowd, what are they
going there and saying this sucks? I mean, you're not
gonna convince me VJ that someone's like, man, I really
wish they'd pull up it intose mid range.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
Jumpers, that that stuff what they're coming for. Where war's
the NBA going wrong?
Speaker 4 (12:20):
Because they got a problem right now and it's only
getting worse.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Here. Here's the thing.
Speaker 5 (12:25):
You don't hear that in stadiums, and this is why
the average NBA fan that goes to a game that's
probably their only game they're going to that season. Yes,
you have your season ticket holders, but there are a
slew of fans that go to these games. And covering
the NBA uplosing personal now as I do. I love
walking the core, the concourses and just watching fans. You
(12:47):
can tell bro whose first time it is. You could say,
you could see it in their face, you can see
it in their eyes, whether they're a grown man, a
twelve year old kid, a thirteen year old young girl
who plays AAU basketball who loves Kobe, and those fans
of g RP to both of them and the other
ones lost on the helicopter. You see so much going on,
it's like wow, and you hear people, yeah, this is
my first I've lived in La all my life, this
(13:08):
is my first Laker game, and it'll be a forty.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
Four year old woman you're talking to.
Speaker 5 (13:11):
So the average fan is not gonna go there first,
even second or third game and complain and yell. Those
are the guys that go at least fifteen twenty. They
buy the chief seats or they got season tickets. Those
are the ones you kind of hear the grumblings from.
But that's not gonna matter. They're still gonna show up.
You're a season ticket holder, You prepaid for this. Unless
you're selling it, you're not wasting it.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Even the guys watching it on TV are not enjoying
the product.
Speaker 5 (13:36):
No, yeah, you're just saying yello, you sting, yelling anything
on your sofa. Yeah, we all do, right, you can sing,
yell anything on your sofa. But I'm gonna go enjoy
the game even if the product's bad. If I drive
an hour and fifteen minutes up to the one oh
one to try to get over the crypto park five
parking walk, get in, get something to eat, get some
them to drink, get to my seat, that's two and
(13:57):
a half hours just to start the game. Right, I'm
going to go enjoy myself. I'm not coming to complain.
I know what the product is, but hey, I came
up with some lake of tickets. Hey you want to go,
and I'm going.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
Well.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Draymond Green, of course, over the weekend on Sunday really
talking about the NBA All Star Game or and talking
about the product of the NBA saying it's just garbage.
It's just straight out bad. Whether he was talking about
the new format of the NBA or just the overall
he said that the product was boring is what he
said about the game of the NBA.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
When did it become boring?
Speaker 4 (14:29):
What exactly are we missing because the athleticism is better
than ever, the shooting is better than ever. Your bigger, stronger, taller,
Like I said, what do we say?
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Gee?
Speaker 4 (14:43):
I missed the old days of the bank shot, the
two heads and chess password.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
What do you want? Is what I'm asking VJ. What
not you particularly?
Speaker 4 (14:52):
But what do people want that they think the product is.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
So bad right now? What are they missing?
Speaker 5 (14:57):
I guess I think the two things I call to
try and care. They want guys to actually really try
all the time, and they want you to actually care
all the truth. And we just don't see that now.
Lakers just tipped Tonight up and Portland on the back
to back. Surprised to see Lebron out there, I'll tip
my hat to that because this is.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Normally a game.
Speaker 5 (15:16):
He could have done a load management and he didn't
because Luca's out tonight on his you know, trying to
work him back in and he didn't play well at
all last night, either one or nine from three. So
they want guys to try all the time, and they
want you to care all the time. Pkse whu Bannon?
I text you and shade this the other night exactly right?
Was that not perfectly said. It was perfectly said. We
(15:36):
want you to go out of heat about that. We
want Well, that's fine because we soft in society, so
that don't matter.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Just go ahead and say what you're gonna say.
Speaker 5 (15:43):
So listen, if you say what they want to say
I want you to say, they'll get mad. And if
you say what they want you to say over here,
the other side get mad. So you might as well
just say what you want to say because somebody's gonna
get mad.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
You can't worry about that. But he didn't tell no lies.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
He said, we want the Kobe's, we want the Jordan's,
we want the Magics, we want the Garnets.
Speaker 3 (15:59):
The dunk is the way we want those guys.
Speaker 5 (16:01):
And you point you look around Steph, Durant and Lebron.
I think that's like the last in my opinion, that's
like the last stuff that era. Look at all the
young guys in the league and stuff we have now
we will cover winby later, we'll talk about him.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
But another young player who's gonna miss the rest of
the year.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
It could be worse than that. They're saying, but go ahead, yeah,
but it's.
Speaker 5 (16:19):
It's and that's what I think the fans want, they
want to try care to your point about the shootings better.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
I always have a riff with that because the.
Speaker 5 (16:27):
Only reason why I am opinion the shootings better is because
the defense is far worse.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
That could be true.
Speaker 5 (16:32):
Their teams there, Knights, where we're watching teams score one
thirty seven in regulation. Now, that's not to say it
didn't happen in the eighties. So all you eighties a.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Bunk going out there.
Speaker 5 (16:41):
The eighties were bad exactly because the Mavericks could score,
Golden State could score, Alex English and them old nugget
teams they'll put up one hundred and thirty, hundred and
thirty five. The old Pistons, the eighties pissons, they'll throw
one thirty one. The Bulls Mike and them Boles will
throw one twenty five.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
One thirty.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
This was those seventy six seventy two games, right exactly
when defid's really bogged down, where there was a time
where early three teams averaged over one hundred points because
guys played defense.
Speaker 5 (17:05):
I think the defense in today's game is so atrocious.
You go watch a live game sometimes, Arnie, I watch
off the ball. I want to see who's boxing out.
Nobody boxes out anymore. You could just run free and
go get rebounds, and most guys don't wait for him,
I mean don't go get them. They wait for him.
Just watch off the ball and watch basketball. Jeff Van
Gundy commented on that for like three or four straight
telecasts from when he was calling games for A teen
(17:27):
and teen, he's like, no, I mean for ESPN, he's like,
no one boxes out, there's no boxing out. There's no
reason why the guy like Rudy Gobert shouldn't average like
eighteen nineteen boards.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
Who's boxing them out?
Speaker 5 (17:35):
You're the biggest dude of your you know, multiple time
defensive Player of the Year, like you should be getting
like eighteen nineteen boards. Dennis Robber was getting eighteen nineteen
seventeen a night dog at six ' nine, back in
the day where he was battling real true seven to
one seven two giants that stayed in the post. They
stayed in the painting guarden, and he was able to
still put up numbers like that.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
You can read just the best way. It's through Twitter.
He's at big vanilla fun eight. I'm itstinking genius.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
One. We're off and running. We got our eye on

Speaker 5 (19:27):
USA Canada still tied at two eleven fifty left in
the first overtime.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
VJ. I'll give you one prediction.
Speaker 4 (19:35):
No way this game last and goes into a second overtime.
Too many scoring opportunities. Both goalies are playing great, but
lost opportunities also by both the teams. No way that
this thing's going to last another eleven minutes and fifty seconds.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
I don't think it will.
Speaker 5 (19:51):
Well, you know, Hockey Son is a really good old
hockey brand goalie out there. You know the turner for goalie.
They're standing on their head, Yes, both these guys right now.
I'm standing on her head until right and then and there.
Moncy will have the update on that. Uh you're watching it,
I'll let you take it.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Brother. Oh wow, No, I.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
Think I'm behind you guys, to be honest, and I
just saw it now, so uh yeah, Monzi will come
on and tell you what happened.
Speaker 5 (20:18):
Unbelievable because as we got it just finishes off. I
can't believe it.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Damn it's the worst thing. Cash, It's the worst thing
that's ever been recorded.
Speaker 5 (20:27):
Here.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
You got a tissue for me. It doesn't fight enough
for that. It does a final words moxies.
Speaker 7 (20:34):
We're letting Ron Parker.
Speaker 5 (20:35):
You know, no, say no, honestly turns off, turn.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
Us off, ut us off.
Speaker 8 (20:40):
The Calta has officially defeated USA at the Foreign Nations
Face Off Championship.
Speaker 6 (20:48):
Great it too, but it was the goalies were just
insane for both teams. Connor Hallibuck for USA had twenty
six saves Jordan Benning's and for Canada had thirty three saves.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
Wow.
Speaker 9 (21:02):
So Canada wins it again three to two against USA
in overtime.
Speaker 7 (21:06):
Thank you Rob Parker for the assist.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
All right, and you know what in USA?
Speaker 5 (21:10):
We had our shots. Yeah, we had our shots. You
talked Arnie about when this all right? Turn that off, man, goodness, gracious,
turn that off.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
We had our chances, man, we did.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
We were peppering their goalie opportunities. Miss a punk rolls
through the crease and there's a swipe at it and
it's missed there. But right there, that's just a huge mistake.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
You can't read.
Speaker 5 (21:33):
Yeah, oh cold course, come on, he's the world's best,
the world's best play that, So don't tell like you
see it.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Look at this. You see this.
Speaker 5 (21:40):
You'll never see this in the NBA All Star Game.
But that's the world's best scoring the game winning goal,
you know, and it's Maini's by far the world's best players.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
Like, it's not even close.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
And look at the if you saw on the sideline.
The dejection on Team USA exactly big him to this.
The goalie for Canada is like almost in tears.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
His coach hey face in USA right now, look at
these guys, So no tell me look at this.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
It feels like the Stanley Cup final, bro, it does
it does?
Speaker 4 (22:07):
It feels like the Olympics, and it just I mean,
look at Team USA. It's just the dejection on their
face and the disappointment. I know a lot of our
listeners are gonna be disappointed. There's no doubt about that.
It was just fantastic. It was a fantastic little tournament.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
It was a great tournament, man, And I'm looking forward
to this.
Speaker 5 (22:26):
They they might live. The USA guy's lips are trembling.
They're trying to fight back, tiers man, And this is
this is essentially the NHL's All Star Game. That's essentially
what this was for was for the All Star break, right,
and you do this for nations thing? Hey man, what
is bad boy up to six or eight next year?
Let's go give me four more teams added to this
(22:47):
right here during a two week all Star break for
the NHL. Right, these guys, everybody's not gonna play. Some
guys are gonna get arrest, some guys are gonna keep playing.
But when you're great, you just get out there plays.
You see Sydney Crosby ak Sydney. It was a legendary.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
He's a legend, bro Like. There are some people that
will put him on the Mount Rushmore of the NHL.
Speaker 5 (23:06):
I don't know if I would, I'd have to say
and think about for a second, but I noticed people
that would that would throw him on there. Mike immediately
and Connor David. Quick thing about Connor David. I was
covering the.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Oilers and the Kings playoff series last year.
Speaker 5 (23:18):
Leaving late, the Oilers were walking out and walking beside
their coach and I just look up at him and
I said, sir, if you don't mind me asking, what
is it like the coach a guy like Connor McDavid.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
The look this man gave me was just like he did.
Speaker 5 (23:29):
He couldn't he couldn't answer me, and he just shook
his hand and I say, he's just so good right.
He goes he's he's better than good man, and he
shook my hand and got on the bus and I
walked off. I just wanted to hit Yeah, he's just
and here's the guy on the world stage. Remember Baseball Classic,
best pitcher in the game, perceived best hitter in the game,
right show Hey against all Mike trout for for the
last out, this one best player in the game, Connor McDavid,
(23:52):
overtime win to win, Attorney.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
I was, you know, I was a little worried about
Bighamton because he had not played well, only going to
play in every game in this series, and he was
he was picking it up in the NHL his last
couple of games. He had a great year of the
year that the Blues won the Stanley Cup. But he's
not on hellen Beck's level. It's not even close. Hell
Beca is the best goaligue in the NHL. But like
you said, you're only as good as you know going
(24:17):
to keep you.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
In the game.
Speaker 5 (24:18):
And they were standing on their heads just to win.
And it's good to see both teams. You know, at center,
he's shaking hands. Of course, enjoined the camaraderie and then saying, hey,
this was this was great man. We we gotta go
ahead and it's got to be done again.
Speaker 4 (24:34):
And the NBA has got to learn from this, because
as much as I'm disappointed, I just love the hell
out of it. And like I said, I'm I'm not
the biggest NHL fan, but I watched it. It was
my son and I grew up on hockey, and it
was just a fantastic tournament to watch and listen, I'll.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
Say it is.
Speaker 5 (24:50):
Let's not forget five, five, six nights ago. These teams
had like three fights in the first nine seconds. They
everybody was talking exactly, they dropped the gloves and it
was the and this was going on. That was Saturday night.
That was going on born NBA All Stars Saturday night.
Think about that. You had NBA All Star Saturday night.
You had the Canada USA game, the first one in
the round robin last Saturday night, going on at the
(25:12):
same exact time, and ten million people plus decided to
watch a hockey game over Matt McClung aka Opie Dunks
when he heard straight.
Speaker 4 (25:23):
Come on clip that Opie Dunks that we'll come back.
We'll finish talking about this game. I know a lot
of people are disappointed. We do want to get to
those NFL rumors all that coming up. First, all, let's
see what's trending as we check it with Monsey for
the second times.
Speaker 9 (25:39):
Yes, fellas, I am here, and the Four Nations face
off has come to an end.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
Set play.
Speaker 5 (25:46):
McDavid scars Conor McDavid scores the goal.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
Team Canada wins Four Nations goal.
Speaker 8 (25:56):
That was NHL Network series xam. This is Rob park
final score against the USA was three to two in overtime.
A championship that definitely has delivered.
Speaker 7 (26:09):
Okay, thank you, Rob Parker. In the NBA, we've got
two games going on right now.
Speaker 9 (26:13):
The Spurs are beating the Suns ninety eight to ninety three.
Speaker 7 (26:16):
Early in the fourth quarters.
Speaker 9 (26:17):
Spurs announced earlier today that they're shutting down victor Ie
Bonyama for the rest of the season because of a
blood clot in his shoulder. Dearren Fox right now leading
the way for San Antonio though fifteen points, seven rebounds,
seven assists. The Trailblazers are losing at home to the
Lakers sixty six.
Speaker 7 (26:32):
To fifty eight halfway through the third quarter.
Speaker 9 (26:35):
Lebron James playing in a back to back for LA
twenty three points no Luka Doncic. In other NBA news,
Anthony Davis he continues to improve from his deductor's straint,
but the Mavericks are going to reevaluate him.
Speaker 7 (26:46):
In two weeks.
Speaker 9 (26:47):
Other games that have wrapped up like the Celtics, who
handed the seventy six ers or six straight loss of
the season one twenty four to one, twenty four to
one oh four. The Clippers lost to the Bucks one
sixteen to one ten boo. The Nuggets have now one
nine in a row because they beat the Hornets one
twenty nine to one fifteen Nicola Yoga's twenty nine points,
seventeen rebounds, and nine assists. Other news in the world
(27:09):
of sports, baseball, the Yankees gave a manager, Aaron Boone,
a two year extension. Positive news from Bobby Miller.
Speaker 7 (27:16):
I don't know if you guys saw that dog. Oh
that awful.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
Yes, take horrible.
Speaker 9 (27:21):
It's always scary when a picture takes a you know,
ball off the face, especially one hundred and five mile
per hour line drive off to the face. But he
did tweet not about an hour ago, he said thank
you to everyone who has reached out. Really means a lot.
Speaker 7 (27:33):
Scary moment.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
I'm good. In the back of the head, it.
Speaker 9 (27:37):
Looked like he turned his head and it hit him
like on the side, so he went.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
Into confusion the thumbs you know what I mean.
Speaker 9 (27:41):
Yes, he went into a concussion protocol.
Speaker 7 (27:44):
He was able to walk away. But he has tweeted
and the last.
Speaker 9 (27:47):
Thing he po was can't wait to get back on
the mound.
Speaker 7 (27:49):
So good news coming.
Speaker 9 (27:51):
Out of Bobby Miller's Twitter account.
Speaker 7 (27:54):
Back to you guys, all.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
Right, thank you, mon, I appreciate that. Bj Husky, Arnie
Span your for Jason Smith and Mike Harmon. You want
to get into Twitter, big vanilla funny. I'm instinking genius one.
Thank god he was okay. I saw that I heard
the thump and I'm like, my goodness, man, the first
thing that came to my mind. You got to take
some X rays, make sure nothing's hurt, you know, no
blood clots or anything like that.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
But it is done.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
Let me ask you this, like a game like this,
now that we've watched the Four Nations Tour a tournament,
if you warn a big hockey fan, you were a
casual hockey fan, not a hockey fan at all. Are
you more likely to maybe tune into the NHL regular
season now as they finish out the season getting ready
for the playoffs?
Speaker 3 (28:33):
Are you're more likely to tune in? Or this was
just a one time thing for you? What do you
think of me?
Speaker 8 (28:37):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (28:38):
Man, that's a tough one, because you know, we're stubborn
as a humanoids, right right, say Mary, we're stubborn. I
don't even though you just watch some of the league's
best players, including the league's best player, But you're.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
Not getting this type of play in the regular season though, right, No, yeah,
you do.
Speaker 5 (28:54):
You get some maybe not from everybody you know, but
you know Connor, my David plays like this all the time.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
You know, you know, all the other great players in.
Speaker 5 (29:03):
The NHL play hard and then as PK two band said,
you know and and his rant, you know you play
we play hard like we play injured. We don't just
play hurt. We play hurt and injured. It's like it's
a it's a culture. And if you don't buy by
the culture is a you know, you kind of get
looked at.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
You gotta get looked at side.
Speaker 5 (29:22):
I buy your your colleagues, right, Okay, your hamstring hurts, Yeah, buddy,
Well I've been punched in the face the last four nights,
so you know, put some ice on it, some icy
hot rappit. Let's go, like, we need you and I
we need we at least need thirteen minutes of ice
time for you, you know, eight minutes of ice time
frame what.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
We need you.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
I would have loved the cover a game like this,
would have absolutely loved it. And I looked at the
ticket prices. I told you they were just short of
three thousand dollars. Now that's that's a little steep, but
that's it was a sold out place.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
It was a tough ticket.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
I'm sure the resale ticket value was even above that.
Even Ticketmaster, you had to probably pay a little bit more.
I really would have loved to cover that. You said
you mentioned you covered the Kings. This would have been
phenomenal for you, especially the town like Boston. Uh, a
big hockey town like that.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
Be Jay, absolutely, and get me a lobster roll mom up,
yeah too, and a cup of chowder.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Give me somebody. I don't like club, I like lobster.
But we talked about this before. I love Are you
kidding me?
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Man?
Speaker 5 (30:20):
On those nice brioche hot dolls. Yeah, split down the
middle and you get that nice grayl buttery lobster in
the middle of that bad boy and that's it.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
Nothing else. You'll need nothing else in it.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
Just give me the toast, the bread with a little
bit of butter on that joint and get me and
put that lobster, tell meat in that bad boy with
a little bit of that claw. Meet and let me
go to town. But yes, it it's a bit cool
to be in a city light Boston. And of course,
UH covered us. But that I mean, that's what this
stuff's about, right man. You you you can say, oh
yeah that first, uh you know that first for Four
Nations Attorney, I covered that. I was there, man, I
(30:52):
covered that thing like you. You get to see you
know have that memory if as far as like a
media members concern.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
And Jason corrects me, it says here, next year is
the Olympic Games. There won't be this type of tournament.
So it's staying corrected on that.
Speaker 10 (31:04):
No, it'll just be a regular It'll get the Olympics.
It'll just be a the Olympics. Yeah right, so look
go ahead and do something even better. Oh which is
even better? Trust me, if you thought this stuff was fun,
watch the Olympics. I watch the hockey Olympics. Man, it's outstanding.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
If you want to get in big vanilla funny, I'm
in sticking genius one.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
You mentioned your Lakers are winning. No Luca in this game?
Speaker 4 (31:25):
What is he gonna be? Game on, game off? The
rest of the way. Is that the way it's gonna
work for Luca.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
I're gonna play it. They're gonna play it. By year.
I have no idea.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
But don't ever say my Lakers ever again. I'm a
die hard beloved Detroit Pistons fan. I love we win
thirty eight to forty two.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
This year.
Speaker 5 (31:40):
We look like we're a pretty good Oh absolutely man
new coach and big staff junior and k Motor K
Cunningham is a bona fide NBA star.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
They just they need more, a couple more pieces.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
Man, they need another. They need a Batman. They got
the Superman, they ain't got a Batman yet. They got
a couple of.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
Little Robbins and a flash you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (31:56):
You know Aquaman, you know Cyclops, those guys, but they
ain't got they don't got they don't. They don't got
a Bruce Wayne. We need a Bruce Wayne. And that's
what I'm went for. When they were here to play
the Lakers, I covered that game. Is the one Lebron
missed the three pointer at the buzzer to win and
the Pisces got editor what it done? Three porters right,
Well that was last night. The Pisto just missed one.
But I got the chance to talk to Trajan Langdon,
who was the VP, you know, a basketball operation for
(32:19):
the last former played for Duke absolutely Alaska, sass and
also too went over and won two championships in the
Spain League and one player the year, oh, I didn't
know what over in the Spanish League. The Cavaliers drafted
him if you remember that, out of Duke, and he's
just a sharp shooter. But he is now the man
calling the shots there. And we got a chance to
chat four second on the court pregame, and I asked
him about that, say, you just need a batman goes
(32:39):
we're building man, I said, But so like our young
I said.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
No, I love the young pieces. I love Duran.
Speaker 5 (32:43):
I loved the veteran of somebody's hairs being there. Motorcade
Ivey was balling to it. He just had a season
in the injury, but they grabbed him a batman some way,
somehow and trade and off season. Hey, man, hey carl Charlotte,
see see what Melo want to do? And the slot
k to the two three and let Melo run the point.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
Here we go. What are they gonna do with Luca?
Now back to that is long. Yes, I think he's
going to play it by year. It fails by here.
Speaker 5 (33:07):
Like I said, he seems the labor and they're trying
to get chemistry too.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Man, Like a D was You know there were a
D was there?
Speaker 5 (33:13):
Man, A D was the guy they He knew what
to do, he knew where to be when you get
traded as different man. He knew where to eat, he
knew how to get to the facility. He knew what
route to take. It's it's all new when you get
traded and you I can't express how much that plays
into how some people adapt to a new team. It's
coming to a new city, especially if you believe all
the reports that Luca got a phone call or text
(33:35):
mess or whatever in the middle of the night and
then you're moving from Dallas to Los Angeles.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Lebron's got to change his game a little bit for
Luca too. He's he's not going to. He has to.
Speaker 5 (33:44):
Yeah, he's not going to, though he's not. You're right,
you know, you're correct. He has to, but he's not going.
He's not going to. How many times do we hear
Lebron's gonna come off the ball? How many times do
we hear that he's supposed to come.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
Off the ball?
Speaker 5 (33:53):
With Kyrie, it was still bringing the ball up a lot,
even though Kyrie was the point guing He about the
ball up too, but Lebron had the ball in his
hands also a lot Luca. There's a few possessions where
Lebron's dribbling at the top of the key and now
Lucas standing off to the left for the right on
the arc, right, and.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
That's just that's if I'm a defense, if that's what
you're gonna give me.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
Oh, this is cake right here, because Luca's not blowing
by anybody, right, but he's got.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
Travis Kelsey doing nothing on that playing.
Speaker 5 (34:16):
Yeah he there, it is there, it is you said
you said it, not me, But I think it's day
to day. I think they'll just play it by here
and just see how his conditioning is. I don't even
see him on a bitch. I don't know if he
traveled with the team or not. But I agree with you.
I think I think they'll play this by here. All right,
we're gonna come back. We'll finish out the hour show,
just flying on by almost halftime. We'll get your caught
up on the games, wrap up this hockey game, all
(34:38):
that's next right here.
Speaker 3 (34:39):
On Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
All right, good evening, everybody.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Of course, VJ Husky, Arnie Spaniard for Jason Smith and
Mike Harmon could reach us that big vanilla funny. I'm
in stinking genius one it's all said and done. They
said that this hockey game might be the most watched
hockey game ever, so we'll have to wait for the
numbers to get on out.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
Well, what's the most watched game? You got on?
Speaker 6 (35:12):
Now?
Speaker 3 (35:13):
What's the most watched, highest viewed hockey game? If you
can grab that, foy check it.
Speaker 5 (35:16):
That would be interesting to see because that shuts down
the whole discussion of has the NBA been caught by
the NHL?
Speaker 3 (35:23):
Right right? I think that was shut it down.
Speaker 4 (35:25):
I don't know the exact number, will find out. I
was just going through it on Twitter, so just the
pulmonary stuff, people say it maybe down is the most watched.
I don't know what like nineteen eighty would have brought
in with USA and Russia. But back then that game
was tape delayed.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
We already knew the.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
Final score before that game actually aired. I don't know
if people actually knew that. Matter of fact, let me
ask you this now that they say it might be
the most watched, only because Canada is going to get
as many viewers as the US, probably more like they
did on last Saturday.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
The NFL.
Speaker 4 (36:01):
They're gonna be in Brazil, Germany, London, Madrid.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
But they got they got some down Under games coming up. Mike,
they very well made. I'm just whether are you okay
with all this? Is it? Or is it a little
too much?
Speaker 5 (36:16):
Man? Give me that we're going overseas, no given, listen,
let the world have it.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Why, yeah, I am. I don't gotta go. I don't
have to fly for nineteen hours on a damn plane.
I'm good. Yes, it's okay with me, man.
Speaker 5 (36:29):
Like you would ask the players that do the players
carry the players sick coming, they're the ones that's gotta go.
I just think it's good to grow the game globally,
and eventually we need full contact.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
Football in the Olympics. It needs to be there. I've
been saying this for twenty years. We need to put.
Speaker 5 (36:46):
The full because the other other nations that play rugby
and Australian rules football.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
They can adapt.
Speaker 5 (36:51):
Or maybe we have some of the same rules, right,
we make it a little different. Maybe we bring over
American football and then we add a little few rules
from Ausie football and a little few rules from off
rugby and then combine and make this one football that
just happens in the Olympics. It would get that could
be a good idea. Man, that would be beautiful. I
just gave it to you. You listening to me. IOC,
(37:11):
You're welcome.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
But to make it global, then that would truly be
the big sport. That's what everybody wants, would be the NFL.
They say, maybe even have a team perfectly over, maybe
in London or Spain or something.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
I don't like. Now you don't like whoa? I mean,
do you? Okay?
Speaker 5 (37:30):
So that team in Madrid has got to fly to
America eight times?
Speaker 3 (37:34):
Right?
Speaker 2 (37:35):
Man?
Speaker 3 (37:35):
Who that's a line.
Speaker 5 (37:36):
Now you're asking American athletes to have to adjust and
play in an.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
American league but live on foreign soil.
Speaker 5 (37:43):
It's different if you go over and in basketball and
play in the EuroLeague or play all right, if you're
in you know, if you're an MLS and you're going
you playing La Liga a Siria or you go playing
the Champions League, Premier League?
Speaker 3 (37:54):
Are you way for?
Speaker 5 (37:55):
It's different if you're doing anything like that. But to
still be in an American league and play for or
the team in London, I mean, didn't you have NFL Europe?
Speaker 3 (38:03):
Just do that?
Speaker 4 (38:04):
Let me ask you something that's maybe blasphemy, but I'll
ask you anyway, what happens if they said, well, we're
gonna put the Super Bowl over in one, all that
I mean that we can't do that.
Speaker 5 (38:17):
You know what, I'm fifty to fifty. I'm fifty to
fifty because I get it right now.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Speaker 5 (38:23):
That's America, American games. But most Americans can't afford to go.
You're watching it at home when you're you're gonna watch
that game at home when you're not chosen wings and
horrible delivery pizza and you know, and your uncle who's
had way too much tequila by the second quarter talking
about a quarterback that's not even in the game.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
It's too expensive. Yeah, man, like the last one. The
prices tremendously went down. But go ahead.
Speaker 5 (38:47):
No, but if you put it overseas, you'll still be
able to let all the media is gonna get there,
networks and networks and stations will take care of that's
all the radio get there, and you'll still have fans
that can afford to Hey, maybe that's the family trip
that year.
Speaker 3 (38:59):
Maybe that's that one family trip instead.
Speaker 5 (39:00):
Of going to Disney, are going to you know, another country,
going to the Caribbean. Mom and dad save up because
they want to get Super Bowl tickets because it's in London.
Speaker 3 (39:08):
This year, you could do in Paris would also go
to the super Bowl. Yeah, exactly, it's the same thing.
