(00:53):
is the way tire buying should be. And already Saint
John's on the ropes, my national champion getting shut out
seven to nothing. Oh, get a te o, Baby, get
a teo.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
You shouldn't have spent all that time at that Italian restaurant.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
And that's not just a joke.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
They were actually at an Italian restaurant eating lunch earlier,
DJ Omaha hitting a three from Omaha to make it
seven to nothing. Over the red storm. The red storm
clearly not rising right now. TJ over under on tablecloth dresses,
Mic oh Man two and a half. A Patino might
(01:32):
have to change into the white suit, like now he
might as Okay, I can't get can't deal with. Let's go.
We gotta go to this man. We're in trouble.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Costume change like he's a one one named singer at
a venue near.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
You see wow, Come on, he got to run out
like he's the ultimate warrior.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
You hear the music read after or he comes out,
he starts shaking the media table and start going up
and down.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Bill Raftery and and Kevin Harley going, my goodness, what
is happening right now? Rick Patino? Seven nothing?
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Yeah, but if he showed up like the ultimate worry,
he ended up hurting somebody and then there'd be problems.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Dude, this a lot of stuff. National champion team man No.
Seven nothing to a fifteen seed.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Come on, man, I had to go back in chess
and check my bracket after Clemson lost earlier, Like how far.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Did I have going. Now you waited the eighth. Now
here's what I want to know is and we need
cameras because you saw the one speech that Patino gave
to the one that made it public. Yeah, in the
Big Saint John's documentary when they were trailing to Providence
at halftime in December, and how bad that was. I
wonder what the speech is now seven nothing to start
the NCAA tournament against Omar.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
He might sound like Mick Cronin.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
You Blake any Blake's you Blakeny Blake's just Blakeny blaking
your way through. I can't believe you think you blake
any Blake this, and blakenty Blake that, and that's you Lewis,
and that's you Canary Richmond. That's all. Yeah, I go
blakenty Blake. Oh you Blakey Blake, Blakey Blake Blake Blake,
Brenda and Eddie and Blakenny Blakeny Blake. Lights might be
romantic teenage knights. Blakey blakeany Blanke. Yeah, get back out there.
(03:12):
That would be my speech.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
And all of a sudden, Billy Joel and a piano
show up at halftime, musical accompanying it for this halftime
speech presented by one William Joel.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
It just comes ill, so we hope.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
He's yes, he just comes up from under the floor,
like the floor opens. He's on the piano, the revolving piano.
Here's how he dismal first half. Guys, we got bigger
problems than this. I have bigger problem. I got, I
got my my, my national champion team hasn't scored yet.
(03:43):
Well that's a you problem. That is a me problem.
But this is a universal My problems are big. Why
what is it? What the Drake is winning? Oh? Did
Drake is winning? Yes, the Drake Drake look like they're
gonna move on. But I thought the sec was so good.
But no, no, what did you say? There was four four?
War will be alive at the end of this weekend
for asas somebody check, so good, the Drake is back.
(04:08):
Drake love the Drake, I hate the Drake.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
I love now. That would be funny if suddenly he
was court side in a blue He's got money on
humber jacket, no questions.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
Not about it's the NCA turn. If somehow Drake wins
a couple of games, you know who's gonna be You
know who's he's gonna show up at games. I mean,
you know he's gonna be there. I don't think he
needs they need what one this is. This is free
there over the weekend. This is free pub for me.
I'm Drake. I'm here to see Drake plack. All right,
that's great, brought to you by the Drake Hotel of Chicago. Nicely,
Does it still Drake silbl Drake still yeah? Uh waitit
(04:41):
wait wait wait wait wait, we have breaking news, breaking news.
Saint John's is scored. Saint john They will not be
shut out. They are trail Omaha now seven to two.
Saint John's has scored. They are on the board right now.
How about that early on look at you? Uh now,
speaking of the game's happening right now. In the NCAA turn,
(05:01):
UCLA looked like things could be a little interesting here
against Utah State, and losing to Utah State would be
completely on brand for this UCLA team. However, they have
gone on a huge run in the last couple of minutes,
basically since Saint John's decided to not score. They now
lead Utah State late in the first half thirty nine
to twenty five. So all of a sudden This has
been a turned into a runaway game for UCLA, which
(05:24):
I feel like every year for UCLA, it's either one
of two outcomes. They either a they go incredibly far
unexpected and look at this wherever you go. They're in
the sweet sixteen, they're in the Elite eight, they're in
the Final four, or they lose in the first round.
Like there's no in between. There's no Hey, we won
a couple of games, we're going home in the sweet sixteen.
We win a game as a seventh seed. We lose
a big game on a Sunday to a bigger seed.
(05:47):
Now it's either we're either on some kind of crazy
magic carpet ride run or.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
We go home early. That's UCLA twenty two and ten
on the year. And for Mick Crona, we watched it
over the course of year. How many times can you
go to the win when it comes to the berating
your player publicly? I don't know, in the in the
in the huddle, et cetera, because I think he's going
to that, well maybe four or five times this year
to after a bad effort. How many times can he
go to the nana go watch me with with and
(06:13):
watch me Nana and watch me with with and watch
me and.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
You go to the go to the net long ago?
Was that show me the Superman? You show me the soup?
You go to what you go to a wedding? You
do the dance like that. That's like the New Village
people y m c A. Every wedding they play whip
in nine. Okay, that's like ten years old now watching,
but it's still being done. Like people are still flossing.
I mean, I mean the dance.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
People are still doing the dance.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
I think that you think that would be out, That
would have been out for like three forty They are no.
People still, people still do people? What do you think
I have people my daughter's high school. I see people
just standing there, floss.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
I thought you were gonna say, at all the friends
of my daughter's weddings, it hasn't.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
We haven't gotten that older. You're attending like the parties
they want you to go to. Yeah, yeah, don't worry.
The real one with the real high school kids is
going on as soon as you leave. It's underneath the gymnasium.
All these are all the middle school kids are just
running around and they're playing ring around the Rosie that
other one is they're doing the Lombarda. So we have
(07:16):
more on the games that are underway again, Saint John's
down to Omaha seven to at the first time out.
Saint John's right now on pace to score sixteen points
tonight sixteen point. They're on pace four sixteen points.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Well, I mean the game, look, Clemson almost came back
and won after putting up what thirteen in the first.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, almost almost.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
And by the way, Better's got middled. If you bet
the under on that game, you're like, wow, this is great.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
And then.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
The line moved several points, creating.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
A pretty big spread, and everybody got middled because there
were over ninety points scored in.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
A second some vague nose, so they got you repeatedly.
So there's a lot of fun to get to today.
This is one of those days where Day one of
the NACA Tournament usually it's either about one of two things.
There's the fun and there's plenty of fun stories we're
gonna get to, and there's the big drama.
Speaker 5 (08:14):
Right.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Oh, we have big games, big upsets. So far today
has been short on drama, but it's been big on fun.
Doesn't mean we didn't have an upset. We had the
big one earlier tonight. That was tough for me to
stomach because I had to watch a former Syracuse player
who decided to choose McNeese State overstaying at Syracuse as
Cadeer Copeland leads McNeice to the biggest upset of round
(08:34):
one in the NCAA Tournament. They knock off Clemson, a
game they were winning at halftime thirty three to thirteen.
A big frantic rally by Clemson in the final moments.
I think they hit like five threes in the final
minute just to make it close, but McNeice is able
to outlast Clemson, sending the Tigers home. Not doing well
(08:57):
for my Hey, the acc might be better than anything.
Mcneise moves on and it was really hard for me
to watch because I'm watching Copeland again. Like if I
could trace the downfall the Syracuse program, it was when
Kadeer Copeland decided he was rising, came off the bench,
was gonna be a start of the next year. He
is a dominant player. And it's not like he chose, Hey,
I'm going to Duke, or I'm going to North Carolina
(09:19):
or I'm going to a bigger blue blood like I'm
choosing McNeice over Syracuse, which tells me Syracuse can't figure
out the nil they when you're choosing me, like that's
that was okay? This is where I know the Syracuse
program is in sports Stonehenge now and I'm gonna have
to watch him Copeland and Cadari Richmond who could be
in the same backcourt right now, I'm gonna watch it.
I'm gonna watch them just roll through the NCAA tournament.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
Now, it's not good for you.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Now when they do the highlight this weekend ahead of
their second round game, do they play fanfare for the
common man? Oh, you kind of have to, and then
have a bunch of highlight realm the uh student manager
who came out.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Like the Rizzler run. Now, I just got fanfare for
a coming man.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
I took the Blackhawks skate on you before it would
come in out to h here come the Hawks. It
would be the slow build of all these highlights through
the years, and then here come the Hawks, am I,
and then final skate before you know, opening puck drop.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
Now, let's get into the because this is the most
overrated story of the day. Uh, just so happens you
know McNeice, We know Will Wade head coach leaving for
North Carolina State right in that announcement on the eve
of the NCAA Tournament. And if that's the biggest story, right,
they pulled the big upset. Right. It's second year in
a row he sends McNeese to the to the tournament.
(10:40):
Last year he said, we were just kind of happy
to be here. This year's as we came in where
a goal in mine was to win this game. And
they wind up winning, and we know he's going to
North Carolina State, and you saw all day, Oh this
was awful. How do you not keep this a secret?
How do you not let this go until after the
tournament is over? I don't know how.
Speaker 6 (10:58):
You know.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
I watched Charles Barkley talking of today and I'm saying, wow,
And that's the one thing. These guys are so out
of touch with college They barely work hard enough as
it is for the NBA. They're so out of touch
with college basketball. Apparently the Will Wade story didn't really
matter as much, right I didn't.
Speaker 7 (11:14):
You know?
Speaker 1 (11:15):
It's weird to hear him say we as a university,
we do this when you know you're leaving. But you know,
kids are more savvy now. You got to give them
more credit. They know how to play the business game
now just as well as the coaches and the schools do.
Because of NIL and transfer, kids are way more savvy now.
You can't lie to kids. You can't do it. They
probably all knew he was leaving. He said, I'm transparent
(11:36):
with my players on it. Everybody knew. Okay, well, now
the timing sucks that. Clearly you'd like to see that. Okay,
you know, we could have this happen after, but I
get it. North Carolina State wants an answer. I get it.
But clearly this didn't have an impact. I'm sure he's
gonna take dear Copeland with him and a couple other
players within the North Carolina State. But this is not
nearly the big deal people think it is. Right. Everything
(11:57):
is much more transparent now. You can't hide anything the
way that the media is now. Twenty four to seven.
They wouldn't have announced it. They didn't think it was
gonna get out anyway, and they would have announced it
if they thought this is gonna really hurt our program.
We're going to the NCAA tournament. It would have been Hey, well,
you care about the kids here? Obviously he does, he's
been there a couple of years. But this is how
(12:18):
the world works. McNeice is a job where it's a
stepping stone, and now he's gonna get to the acc
all right. This is how everybody knows it. This is
not fifteen twenty years ago, where oh, coaches and schools
were able to do whatever they want you to work
on a hide stuff and make it mysterious and the
players are victims. Now the players know the game. They
know the game, and for Will Wade to be honest
with everybody, I like that. I like that. Hey, we're honest.
(12:40):
I'm telling you I'm leaving and I'm going here. And
the best part is now there are people who would
want this job. Hey wait a minute, We've got some
things rolling here at McNeice. I see them on National TV.
I know the coaches leaving. I'm taking a look at
what kind of personnel they have. I'm hoping he doesn't
take everybody with them to North Carolina State. But maybe
now this becomes a story and this becomes an attractive job,
(13:01):
and they know they're replacing Will Waite. Anyway, now they
get more interested in it, like this is this is
such an over it's such an overblown story, and it's
something that when I see it talked about, it's like
people who still think that that college basketball is what
it was twenty years ago. It's not the case.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
No, but that's the thing. It's changed fundamentally.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
That's why we have our long discussion about just continue
expanding the tournament. Right, our guy Pete Futech, he was going, yeah,
tell me again with some of these games, how you
you're mad that.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
Indiana played in the College Football Playoff. It's like it's
the same thing.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
We see blowouts, players aren't beholden to stay at a school.
We see by the time a guy finishes, he looks
like he's got a shack wall of how many jerseys
could I put up by the end of it, different
nil packages, whatever. You're constantly recruiting your players in season
to stick around. And for coaches, I mean, wait's not
the only one. You've got Willard at Maryland with the
(13:56):
same thing, right, Ad might be.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Gone before it's over.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
I did a spot in Baltimore and I'm like, you know,
I picked them to go far, but I don't know
if it's infighting is gonna affect the players.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Van Dixon will lead the team.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
They'll be fine ancically, do absolutely, but I gotta I
gotta think you're at the points like well, we were
pot committed at this point. We're with him as long
and if he walks out the door as soon as
it's over, we'll see him in hell.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
So same thing with Wayne.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
He's had his issues with recruiting and all that stuff
in the past. It's the transparency's there. You might as
well hear it from the horse's mouth, as it were.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Exit about a fresca exit swallowing up. The most overrated
story of the day is this one. It just happens
to come with the biggest story of the day as well.
Tractor Supply knows that a winning season takes practice, teamwork,
and it can do attitude. Thankfully, when you have a
neighbor like Tractor Supply, teamwork comes easy. Whether you're caring
for pets, chickens or a few acres, our team members
will help you succeed season after season. Tractor Supply for
(14:51):
life out here. Well, coming up next, how about this,
Mike Carmen. We have a story that is the best
possible news for anyone who's fan of college basketball.
Speaker 4 (15:01):
Sounds good to me.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
We also have a story where boy as a nation,
we have all been embarrassed today. So we'll have both
of those coming up in the next few minutes. Jason
and Mike Fox Sports Radio. Hey tires matter. Why Well,
they're the only part of your vehicle that touches the

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Oh wait, breaking news, breaking news here Fox hors Radio
breaking news.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
Be careful that triggers things.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
Uh, you see San Diego as finally scored. They were
down to Michigan ten to nothing, but now they have scored,
so now it's ten to two, fourteen minutes to go
in the first half.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Now the long road begins with the first step ah
or something like that. U.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
Meanwhile, you know, and I always I wonder if teams
are always nervous about this, Like if you have a
day where there's not a lot of upsets in the
NCAA tournament, that the law of averages tells you there's
gonna be some upsets, How nervous are those teams at
play at night? Like the last group of four that man,
there hasn't been a lot of upsets. This could happen
for us tonight right now, under ten minutes ago. In
the first half, Omaha leads Saint John's fifteen to fourteen.
(17:08):
So the Johnny's not with a great start so far,
but it is early. However, to fifteen you want to
think that Saint John's, coming out of the big regular
season they had and my pick to win it all,
would have a little bit better start than this. Well,
what's funny is for the media.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
In totality, right, the punditry a lot of love for
Saint John's's last couple of weeks. Right, you built that bandwagon,
and damn it did they flow on really, really heavily,
except the betting public didn't do the same.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
They were still twenty five to one to win it all.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
So you have a small wager, a peanut bet, as
Bill Krackenberger would call it. But when it comes down
to it, Saint John's for the entirety of this week,
since selection Sunday, they've been told how great they are,
So maybe you come out thinking it's another day at
the office. Sure, whereas Omaha, like, what the hell? I
(18:04):
hate the term of house money you do? I hate
that more than like I think it's just grossly overused.
And every game you come out you're still playing, playing,
you know, as hard as you can at trying to
be as effective as you can. It's never ah, what
are you gonna do? But there is a looseness to
being a fifteen seed of just go throw it against
the wall and see.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
What you do. This is one of those games where,
like you know, because I have so much at stake
with Saint John's winning it all, I don't even want
to watch it. I want to just turn it on
at the end and find out we put a movie instead.
I went, well, no, we can't, we can't, we can't,
we can't cheat America. They want to know what's going on.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
Well, they want to.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
You can live and die as I just make references,
but do it ombliquely during my comments.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Retorts to what you have to say right.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
Yelling at you every time.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
Omaha, now up by six over Saint John. Word games
where I just want to turn it off and wake
up and go what was the score? I don't care.
I didn't go through all the stress, but they won
and they're moving on.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
I would just tell you this, sir, Roke Susaki over
there would be happy to advise you of any failures
we knew it was over.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
The second he took them. Well, why do you think
I'm dreading football season already?
Speaker 4 (19:12):
I don't even get to have my great off season.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
For the Bears. He's already doom me. The Bears are
so bad he has no say over that. Speaking of Hoop's,
tractor supply knows that a winning season takes practice, teamwork,
and it can do attitude. You hear that Saint John's
practice team work can do attitude. Thankfully, when you have
a neighbor like tractor supply, teamwork comes easy. Whether you're
caring for pets, chickens are a few acres. Our team
members will help you succeed season after season. Tractor supply
(19:37):
for life out here.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
So eight chickens, Yeah, it could be raising chicken. I
tell you, maybe, say.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
John, why don't you bake Patito? Put a bunch. Put
five chickens out there, let him run around te they
do anything better? This is my team. Put five chickens
out there. My team is on the court. Well, Leyenkata,
Now I'm thinking of a rest of development when they're
all doing the chicken impressions? Who can do? Who can do?
Has anybody in this family ever seen a chicken.
Speaker 6 (20:03):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
But before we get to the best news in the
NCAA tournament, let me just say we were embarrassed as
a country today. As annation, we were absolutely care raille.
Oh no, no, no, There's there's many things I can
point to every day going oh this, no, no, no,
we were embarrassed as a country today. Uh. And I
want to say that maybe it's good that it happened.
Speaker 7 (20:26):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
Panama beats the US men's national team today a stoppage
goal their first shot of the game in the first
game of the Mauricio Pocatino Era, and Panama beats the
United States won nothing in the semis. The game was
at so FI and again their first shot of the day.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Aren't you glad we couldn't go because it was the
first day of the NCAA tournament.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Well, because this guy think at the end of this one,
if I was.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Actually at so Fi, yeah, it might have been a problem. Uh.
This this is now the first time that the United
States will not win the event. We have won the
event every single time, all three times. Now the first
game of the Pocatino Era. Now, hey guess what we've lost? Okay,
So no place to look but watching, Look, I'm watching
(21:16):
watching this game the second half. Look, Panama parked the
bus for the entire game, basically, but still there was
no creativity. But there's no creativity, no nothing for more
talented the United States team. Greg Berhalter is somewhere laughing
his ass off right now. Like Robert de Niro and
Cape Fear in the movie Theater, I was the problem.
(21:36):
At least I won this tournament three times. Ah, it's embarrassing.
Now you want to get to the day. Okay, when
are we gonna have this tournament? Big deal semi finals?
When are we gonna play it? We're gonna play it
on the first day of the NCAA tournament. Well, is
that a smart idea? Now, we'll still play We'll have that.
Well people watch. Okay, we suck. Okay, when are we
gonna play it? We're gonna play it in La Okay,
(21:59):
all right, So we're gonna have a late start. No, no, no,
we're gonna play it at four o'clock in the afternoon,
four o'clock in the afternoon local time. Yeah, we're gonna
get a crowd. Yeah, it's all with you. We're a
soccer man country now and it's such an embarrassing It
looked like it looked like what a Jets preseason game
is gonna look like this year. That's how many people,
(22:20):
I mean there were. This was such an epic fail.
I mean, look, there's a long way to go. Obviously
we'd have to worry about qualifying because posting the world.
But for your first day, your first game under the
guy who said a day ago, next five ten years,
we're competing for World Cups. He said, hey, the president
and everybody else canna have us. He's gonna give us
the the resources we need to succeed to make sure
(22:41):
we win the World Cup. Thought he was gonna tell
you the game, and here's your first game, and you
can't even beat Panama, who is terrible. That maybe maybe
if I was playing keeper instead of Matt Turner, maybe
I make that save. And I mean maybe I don't,
but maybe I make that save. The first your first
steps not good, Yeah, but I did have to make
a save. The rest of the there were no shots,
(23:02):
no shots until the ninety fourth minute of the game.
Come on, man.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
At that point you're like picking daisies. Come on, man,
because you haven't had any.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
Actions and not only did you lose, but you had
a cry. It's so. I mean, you see this, I'm
going this really, this is Jets preseason football. This is
like Jets Week one preseason football. No, sorry, yeah, yeah,
week four years agast the Giants wore Week three against
the Giants. Yeah, I mean that's so, and we're I
was embarrassed as a nation that this is what we hadary.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
Great.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
All you got to do is play Van Halen's Panama.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
In the backgrounds as you sitting reacht the commentary between.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
My legs and ease the seat back. We're scoring, you're
losing Panama. Really, there's one person in the United States
that's happy, and it's Greg Burholter, and he is smoking
a cigar right now with bourbon brandy having a part. Hey,
come on over, it's the it's the US men's national
team after party at Miles. Just come on on over.
(24:01):
Even the rain As might come over. Call them up
at and come over.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
He changed his ring tone. Oh yeah, why do you
have l a Oh?
Speaker 1 (24:15):
This song just puts me in the best mood. Are
you gonna answer me out? Nope, your phone is ringing, Greg, No,
I just want to hear the song jump back. What's that?
Speaker 2 (24:25):
Wait?
Speaker 8 (24:25):
Are you calling it from your other phone? That's like,
damn right, I am, I'm just gonna hear it ping
pong back and forth. We will have the best story
out of the n c H. I mean, I tough
to beat that though, y. But first, let's find out
what's trending in the wide world of sports of someone
(24:45):
who's been called the Lady Gaga of Fox.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
Sports Radio Lady Gaga because she has a bad romance
with the l A Clippers. It's that's good.
Speaker 5 (24:57):
I do have a bad romance with the LA Clippers.
Were doing really well. Don't listen to Stephen a talking
snack on co Why is it injury history?
Speaker 1 (25:06):
I don't know why he had to bring that up,
but we were doing pretty good.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
The Clippers. They're not playing, they.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
Say, didn't they They say that he's still playing for
the Raptors. I thought that's OK. And he's like, I'm
waiting for him to get hurt.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
I was like, shut up, Steven.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
Noon or was he just in it was his op opera.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
Voice or what was it? The This is ridiculous. It
was terrible. It was embarrass It's the worst thing I've
ever seen.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
He's got to commit to the bit. If he's got
a hundred million. Now, there's got to be violinists behind
him when he gets to that voice.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
There's there's gotta be somebody on on the soreus dot
com coming up with with words that that that can be,
uh that can be you know, subs in for terrible exactly.
This was abhorrent. It was frightful. It was ghastly. It
was horrid. It was unfortunate. It was unpleasant. It was desperate, beastly,
it was dreadful. This was disturbing. This was atrocious nice,
(25:54):
This was disastrous. This is gruesome. This was severe. This
is petrifying. Offensive. It was repulsive, it was revolting. It
was rotten, unnerving, it was unwelcome. It was vile.
Speaker 5 (26:07):
I'm gonna steal some of those, okay, right, some of those,
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
I was also describing the United States game against pat Yeah,
we're together.
Speaker 5 (26:17):
Maybe I knew it was gonna be so bad, and
that's why they scheduled it at four o'clock in the
middle of a day like this.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
Yeah, that makes no sense.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
All right, Hey, we got a big game and it's
gonna put it. We're gonna put it on every television.
We're gonna do it in prime time and we're got
a network pick it up. Hey, uh, we might not
be that good. All right, We'll play four o'clock in
Los Angeles on the first day of the tournament opposite
the UCLA game on a streaming service that you need
to really search it out.
Speaker 5 (26:44):
And you know, so many people approved it, like that's
what's crazy.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
It's all people were like, yeah, good idea.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Uh huh, green light, green light.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
Counterprogramming, let's go.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
It's just like when you're a youth coach, you can
schedule your own games whenever you want to. That doesn't matter.
I tell you, I'm doing it like this. I'm doing
it like this. Hey guys.
Speaker 5 (27:00):
So, the second half just started between seven seed UCLA
and ten seed Utah State. The Bruins are up thirty
nine to twenty nine. They just got going again in
the second half late in the first half fifteen seed
Omaha and two seeds Saint John. Saint John's is up
twenty five to twenty two. After that slow start that
you mentioned halfway through the first half, Five seed Michigan
has a twenty to eight lead over twelve seed.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
You see San Diego. What has happened already?
Speaker 5 (27:24):
Will ten seed Arkansas survive seventy nine to seventy two
against seven seed Kansas. This is the Kansas first lost
in the first round since two thousand and six.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
And also Drake is moving on. I had the Jackson
Hey triples. It out. Drake could not beat.
Speaker 9 (27:40):
Kendrick Lamar Or in the battle over the last year,
but the Drake Bulldogs could certainly beat the Missouri Tigers
in the first round of the NCAA Tournament sixty seven
fifty seven.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
I mean, the jokes right themselves, So that's clearly line.
Clearly Drake having a better year than Tiger Woods. Let's
make sure that's happening right now. Lamar University did not
make the dance.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
Drake beat sixteen Missouri sixty seven to fifty seven. The
Bulldogs are moving to the second round for the first time.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
Since nineteen seventy one.
Speaker 5 (28:15):
We've got some NBA games going on, Raptors and Warriors.
Warriors of twenty six twenty five late in the first
after the first it's the King's topping the Bulls thirty
nine to twenty eight. Still to come the Bucks in
the Lakers I really don't know who's playing for the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
Mike Trudell might have to suit up. I'm not sure. Honest, Wow,
Mike Trudell so bad. Mike Trudell is playing point guard?
Didn't I we may have to. I don't know who's playing.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
I'm not kidding.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
How many phone books? Yeah, let's fall forward, announcer John
I honestly, you guys, honestly.
Speaker 5 (28:48):
Janni's Antekupo is expected to play for the Bucks, but
Damian Lillard is not expected to play.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Okay, back to Michael Thompson would play powerfullard happen he's got.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
Any minutes left, and I'm sure it's worthy.
Speaker 6 (29:00):
You.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
Guys, I'm not getting I don't know who's playing.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
Thompson.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
Baby Geeter is playing. Maybe Baby Geter is playing. Okay,
I'm just you, guys.
Speaker 5 (29:13):
Really everyone has been rolled out, everybody, everybody in the club.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
You want to hear, You want to hear a good story.
Who's playing? This is a really good story, and it
follows a guy I used to be friends with, Keith Opman.
So it was not abruptly abruptly and not my fault.
Pretty crazy, it was, Yeah, it was.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
It was got a history of these times.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
Are you sure it's not your fault? Positive that there's
many things in my life. I will tell you that's
not my fault. That absolutely was my I did it
deep But there were but but there were, But this
completely not my fault him exactly. Uh So, this is
We're at ESPN. This is when I was in a
production ESPN and Keith is doing the eleven I'm working
on the eleven o'clock show. And there are a couple
(29:55):
of production assistants that were new and like it just
come in and didn't know, like they're starting new at ESPN.
Here's what you're doing. We only been there a couple
of days. And so Keith is doing the highlight of
the Lakers and it's and it's a mid game highlight
and it was the Lakers were playing somebody I forget
it was, and they were just getting pasted. Right. This
is the mid nineties Lakers before Shack shows up, before Kobe, right,
(30:16):
So this is the fun Lakers. This is yeah, this
is the said Sibalo's Nick van exelat right, says, so
Eddie Jones, so yo, yeah, oh yeah, Eddie Jones. So
Eldon Campbell sure, So so excited. He's doing the highlight,
and it's halftime and the Lakers are losing like fifty
eight to twenty eight, like they're down by thirty at halftime,
and and and Keith sayss just one of those fun
(30:37):
like I like to say, Keith. One of the full
lines goes fifty eight to twenty eight, Lakers shooting twenty
one percent from the field in the first half. Things
so bad for the Lakers. Chick Hern is playing point
guard right now, So really funny line. Right now, I'm
working on the eleven. I'm in and I'm in the
I'm in the room. I'm in the big tape room
where I'm out to do stuff I need to during
the show. And the two of the PA's who were
(30:58):
standing that are new they're kind of observing everything, and
one PA, I mean doesn't know. It just just goes.
Really the play by play guy's playing point guard for
the Lakers. Dude, chick Hern is seventy Come on, man,
it's not really playing point guard like he thought because
Keith said it on the air like that was something
that was true, all right, thinks, So chick Hern is playing.
Speaker 3 (31:18):
For I mean, we're a newsleader I mean, come on,
I'm telling you it's gotta be true.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
The thing is at Frostburg, and you know from watching Chicken, Yeah,
he could never leave the booth. Somebody had to tell
stud to shut the hell up right. Yeah, that's true,
But couldn't you. I could actually see him holding the
ball and actually telling the other Lakers what to do,
like that's how good chack. Like he'll be telling no, no, no,
you need to get down low and you need to
come here and set a screen like it, actually holding
the ball back and pointing at the other Lakers telling
(31:42):
him what to do. The man has a statue for
a reason. Yeah he does, he does. He's chick hern
is playing point guard for the Lakers. Hey monts he
was that guy from from San Antonio last night. Sandro
Mamo kill Oh you still know it? Very good again.
Speaker 5 (31:59):
I'm pretty sure I got followers from just saying that
guy's name.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
Wow, you know what I'm saying. That's good, that's good.
What's there to do? Sandro Mamukelashvili, All right, Mamukelashvili, that's
pretty good. Mama. That could be a song. That could
be a song, Mama coolidge Vili ivek MOI siswa nice nice?
Speaker 4 (32:18):
Or on you sing it like Freddie Mercury would.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
Eh, mamascottish. Really it's good, It's really good. Uh exit

Speaker 1 (32:43):
UCLA in control over Utah State forty seven thirty three. Meanwhile,
Saint John's has pulled out a six point lead over Omaha.
Now with three and a half to go in the
first half, I can exhale a little bit. Uh we
got more NCAA because coming up next a story from
today that I'm telling telling you is the best story
for every single NCAA tournament fan out there.
Speaker 7 (33:05):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (33:08):
We'll tell you coming up next right here, Jason and Mike,
this is Fox Sports Radio. Ooh, Pantama beat the US.
Speaker 10 (33:23):
Boy may really ms Burrhalter, they really stunk. We parked
the bus in one one shot in the ninety fourth minute.
Doesn't matter. Now we knocked them out. Of their own tournament.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
Sports Radio The Jason Smith Show with My best friend
Mike Harmon. How about Home Off NCAA Tournament? UCLA is
all over Utah State fifty three point thirty six midway
through the second half. There, moving on Michigan after a
slow start from U see San Diego? Is you saying
trying to keep it close? There? Down by nine? Texas
(34:07):
Tech and UNC Wilmington just underway. Saint John's and Omaha
is a one score game right now with twenty seconds
to go before halftime. Saint John's was down early in
this game seven nothing. Omaha has a great adday. You
could tell by their body language they're in here to
win this game. Uh, it is a toss up game
right now with twenty seconds to go before half time. Jason,
(34:29):
look out, Yes, huge question to you guys right here.
Bottle of white, bottle of red? That is correct? Perhaps
a bottle of rose instead? Correct as well? Okay, the
big question you ready? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (34:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (34:42):
What's uh? Patino's halftime speech gonna.
Speaker 4 (34:44):
Be like, oh, dude, it's gonna go drake a bottle
of red.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
What's what's that? What's that thing we play from? What's
that thing we play from? Burger Time? Blank you, blank you,
blank you You're cool? Blank you. I'm out that burger
sorry burger video game Burger Time was a video Yes,
that's great song you sing in the line of McDonald's
no Burger Time.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
There was a ver There was a video game though,
where you run around and you'd have to avoid like
the evil hot dogs and stuff, and you had to
build the burgers Burger Time, and there were more layers
to it with each level, so like it would start
adding bacon and odds onions and extra cheese or whatever else,
and you had to run across it and they would
drop it levels to where you finally made the whole burger,
but you had a bunch of different condiments and stuff
(35:32):
chasing you around.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
Yeah, it's a great video.
Speaker 4 (35:34):
It was awesome.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
You have like that, Jason, I'm going No, the cheese fell,
cheese fell over the sun. Double no, no, no, no,
double meat. I could do with that, but the cheese falls,
Like I didn't want it. I didn't want that. I
can't have cheese. I don'dn't want it. I can't even
have this. I don't care three seconds of the question though, Yeah,
how much baby powder's gonna be used at halftime. He's
(35:55):
gonna throw it in everybody's face. It's gonna be really
we need we need a camera in the locker room
because Patino's walking off and he is not happy.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
He's gonna be spitting any guy's face like he's the
great Kabooki of all from the World Class Championship Bresoly.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
They get an end one to end the first half,
so it's a five point lead. But this is not
anything that Saint John's could say, Hey, look at that
first half. So a lot of drama here again. Second
half about to beginning about ten or fifteen minutes. R
J lewis just eight points nights so far for Saint John's.
He's a guy that's got a score. Now. The best
(36:29):
news for all of us with the NCAA tournament that
we have, and we've heard in the last twenty four hours,
Cooper Flag will play for Duke tomorrow. All reports are
John Shire talked about this. He's fine. All the movement
he has had, the lateral movement the up and down movement,
the movement straight ahead behind everything is great. And look,
(36:49):
when you're eighteen years old, you come back from injuries
like this pretty fast, plastic man. Sure, it's not known
how much he's going to play, and I assume this
will be a game situation dictating how much Cooper Flag
is gonna play. I'm sure he'll start. If Duke is
having their way, I'm sure he will sit and they
won't go crazy with his minutes because there'll be a
(37:10):
bigger game on Sunday. Obviously.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
When you know, you think, I don't think he's gonna
have a you have to work up too big a sweat.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
Yeah, I don't think he's gonna you know, I don't
think he's gonna play. I mean, maybe he plays twenty
someone and they need him for twenty minutes, or he
plays just close enough to a full load, or that
he can without it being so hey, we want to
make sure you're not rusty. So all right, that's that's
the best us that's always.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
Got to run him through the layup line, see how
he moves, and then sit his ass down myself.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
Now, it's it's great news for two reasons. And number
one is because no tournament needs Cooper Flagg to play in.
It needs a star player more than this tournament does.
Speaker 6 (37:47):
Right.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
I mean the two stories in the NCAA this year
has been Cooper Flag and Rick Patino and Saint John's.
That's it, those two stories. And clearly Cooper Flagg is
like like Patino in Saint John's is fun, but Cooper
Flag is way about. It's not even duke. It's Cooper Flag.
And hey, here's a guy that's come into overwhelming number
one overall picking the draft. They need this. You need
(38:08):
a star. That's the thing about March is games go on.
You need your stars.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
On the plus ide, you added a mere con so
I mean that's good. The McNee station, Yeah, well they
just had a ruling on his fight today. All ties together.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
But here's the other part. That's big news for college
basketball if I'm betting right now, because here he is,
coming back after a scary ankle injury, wants to play
in the nca term and clearly it is okay from it.
It's not a Zion busting up his shoe and dude,
I don't know that you can play again. And you're
only a duke because you couldn't go to the NBA.
Cooper Flagg loves playing for Duke. When you see him play,
(38:47):
this is not a guy who I'm here putting in
my year and I'm heading to the NBA. If I'm
a betting guy right now, I would bet he comes
back to school for another year, because you have your
whole career to play right and clear first overall pick here,
you'll be the first overall pick next year.
Speaker 7 (39:05):
Right.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
We watch Peyton Manning do it twenty some odd years ago,
stay in school, didn't want to go to the Jets,
so I'm staying in school. He came out and he
had a great career. Is that Cooper Flag has to
look at the teams that are in the mix for
the number one overall pick. Not like what you see now?
Granted he's gonna have time. He's got to make a declaration.
Then we get the lottery, then you can pull out right,
so he has enough time to say, hey, I like
(39:28):
what I see at the top here, I don't like
what I like to see. I'm sure there's gonna be
some sort of back chattel communications, but there's not a
lot of teams in just till happens in this edition
of the NBA where I could say, hey, that's a
team you want to go to. Now, Yeah, you're in
the lottery because you stink, But there's difference between being
on a team that stinks and being on a team
that's having a bad year. That's a great chance and
(39:50):
a great opportunity for you. I don't see a lot
of those teams in the lottery this year. I could say, Hey,
that's where you want to end up, and chances are
they might not get that number one overall pick, and
our team's going to train, eat up, and trade a
whole bunch of number ones to get there to get you.
I'm telling you, if i'd have bet right now, I
would bet Cooper Flags stays at Duke.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
I like, I like the cut of your jim, I
like your optimism. I still think when you get down
to it, you become the face of a franchise, a city.
Speaker 4 (40:16):
That glimmer of hope. All of that gets pinned to you.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
Now, the Bulls performing better of late big game tonight,
opportunity once again for Kobe White and company to try
to solidify their place in the playoffs. But say all
of a sudden, Chicago drops out, or you've got those
few ping pong balls where you can go hang out,
maybe with Wemby and de Aaron Fox. You know, all
(40:41):
of a sudden there are some places that start looking
more and more attractive.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
No, but again, it's gonna depend and gets but it doesn't.
There's not there's not a lot of possibilities out there.
You can look at it and say, oh, I like this.
Speaker 4 (40:52):
Well, well, the other is that why for go the
the income that you'll make for another year.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
I think he's making a lot of money. I think
he's gonna get fifty million. Ignitize, I get it hit
up for another year. Two big stories out of the
NCA turn from today coming up next Fox.
Speaker 2 (41:10):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (41:22):
Started out bad, Saint John's was getting blanked. Was seven
nothing in the first five minutes of the game. But
then they rally pretty fast and that halftime Patino speech,
Now the game is a runaway. Saint John's fifty omaha
(41:52):
thirty three. The moving on to the second round of
the tournament, tonight Patino wear that white suit. Saint John's
continues not to lose.
Speaker 6 (42:10):
Well.
Speaker 1 (42:10):
I feel a lot better, Mike Carmen. I'm exhaling my
breathing easier. My national champion Saint John's University has taken
this really bad first half. We saw Rick Patino go
to the locker room like he was gonna kill somebody.
And that must have been some halftime speech because it
has been all Saint John's in the second half. Fifty
(42:33):
to thirty three is your score right now?
Speaker 5 (42:35):
R J.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
Lewis now leading the way for Saint John's with thirteen.
It has been a pretty across the board, a good
game for Saint John's. They're shooting better, they're playing better,
and they are showing, Look, we are the better team.
It doesn't look like there's gonna be an upset here.
And I connectshale Homa. Three of twenty two from three
point range is that good? And I think they hit
two of them in the first like minute of the game. No,
(42:57):
I look, it's gonna be an on slide, It's gonna.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
Be ah No, just keep shooting. It's the only chance
we have on They shot themselves right out of this game.
Speaker 1 (43:06):
Yeah, so Saint John's with the lead, right, And again
I feel a lot better I found out because I've
been all I'm as excited. I gotta say, I'm as
excited for Saint John's in this tournament like I am
normally when Syria, I say normally, we haven't been in
four years?
Speaker 4 (43:19):
Uh when graduating class. Dude about that.
Speaker 1 (43:22):
I was thinking about that earlier today. They are kids
who went to Syracuse. Hey basketball Royalty, we are that
are gonna graduate in the spring and there and they
will not have seen the team play in an NCAA tournament.
Speaker 3 (43:33):
Parents probably paid extra for some for some package of tickets.
Oh yeah, for not only their kids, but for themselves,
and and they got nothing.
Speaker 1 (43:43):
That's uh, it's a uh, it's it's name. Well, at
least you get you got to see cal McCord. You
get to see former Syracuse stars like Cadari Richmond and
Kadeer Copeland star in the NCAA tournament.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
So there is that.
Speaker 3 (43:55):
And they got that commercial where Camelo Anthony gets the statues.
Speaker 1 (43:58):
Yeah that's a good works. But look again, it was
easy to just sit back and it's just the last
couple of weeks, just just all the memories. I'm like
James Earl Jones and in Fielded Dreams. You know, the
memories will be so thick they'll brush them away in
front of their faces like fireflies.
Speaker 7 (44:14):
Ray.
Speaker 1 (44:15):
Like, I'll just thinking back to all the great times
I had rooting for Saint John's when I was a kid,
and just I mean, because they haven't been this good
since then, because they were a dominant team when I
was growing up and it was fun and we talk
about the Big East. Oh we missed the Big East.
Guess you think Syracuse, Georgetown, but it's Saint John's and Yukon.
It was this incredible conference and you know, now obviously
that's gone by the wayside. But I mean, I'm just
(44:36):
I'm just so all in on this now. And I
maybe because I'm just so desperate because I haven't seen
a tournament game in four bleep in years, but like
it's easy, so easy for me to get in on
Saint John's here. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (44:46):
I gotta say, though, I'm a little salty because that
means with every new memory, it's kind of like inside
out right where stuff starts getting pushed to the uh
it just goes away.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
Yeah, you know, bing.
Speaker 4 (45:01):
Big big bomb, you're behind. He had a good run.
Speaker 3 (45:05):
But all of that to say, you start losing the
ability to just introduce Saint John's and all. What is
his Chris mollan highlights? Yeah, yeah, fact when it was
mop top. Yeah, but Chris Mullen before the flat tip,
when there was no three, like Chris mollen is good.
Remember there was no three at that.
Speaker 1 (45:21):
Think about how ridiculous he would have been. Oh my god, wow,
like a Chris Moullen. He would have been like Pete
maravich Man. He would have one of those guys. He
would have scored like forty a game. Just remember watching
him as a kid. Man, My little brother like emulated
like he was a really good shooter. Unfortunately, you've met
my family. We don't have a lot of height running around.
But man, can he shoot?
Speaker 2 (45:40):
No?
Speaker 1 (45:41):
You have to shoot? We you don't have height.
Speaker 4 (45:42):
Yeah, you know that that was me.
Speaker 1 (45:43):
That was a point guard when I played. That's why
I could shoot and I could distribute. That was it.
That's what I did. Couldn't ait the midrage jumper. I
wasn't that guy I was gonna. I was more of
a when I got close in for a layup or
a one hander or a little bit of it, you know,
get a friendly rim role. But then I shoot a three.
What did you say, friendly rim roll? Friendly rimroll? What
did that sound like? I said, no, no, I just
wanted to hear you saying friendly mro. I got the
(46:05):
friendly rimroll, friendly rimroll, friendly rimroll. Normally it's I've never
heard rim roll. It's almost like Scooby Do remember all
pretty I remember Raggy Buggin, Oh Mottoo, red Water White,
whatever you're in the night.
Speaker 4 (46:21):
Yeah, go back and watch those Scooby Doo movies.
Speaker 1 (46:24):
Uh. Meanwhile, things a little bit closer for Michigan, and
you see San Diego all of a sudden the Wolverines
offense with Alex Orgy at quarterback. Not wow for that wow,
Uh Michigan. They led this game ten nothing after five minutes.
(46:46):
Now it is a forty two to thirty six game
with seventeen minutes left to go in the second half.
And oh, by the way, I told you how much
I like Texas Tech. They're struggling with North Carolina Wilmington
thirty five thirty one with a minute to go in
the first half. And I'm telling you there's something to
the psychology of teams knowing like, look, when you're sitting
(47:06):
around waiting all day to play the NCAA tournament, Yes,
you're getting ready, but you're on your phone, You're watching
the games. You're seeing what happens when there's a day
of no upsets. It's got to be in the back
of your mind, well, there's gonna be up. We don't
want to be that upset. And the and the underdog
team is like, we're gonna be that team, right, The
law of average says we're gonna get an upset at
some point, Right, We're gonna get up. But that I
(47:27):
got a fact I would I wish there was some
kind of psychology thing to look at the teams that
play at night, that play the last group of on
the first two days of the urnam that played the
last four games. What the odds are that you saw
those teams getting upset? Because you're seeing teams like Texas
Tech should be having no problem with North Carolina Wilmington. Again,
I told you I would have taken Texas Tech to
the final four if they weren't in Saint John's bracket.
(47:48):
Michigan should be wiping up the floor with U. See
San Diego. I think it's the first basketball game you
see San Diego has played, and somehow they got in
the tournament. And still it's a six point game early
in the second half.
Speaker 3 (47:57):
Twelve oh run last two minutes seconds now a three
point game. But to your point, Yeah, you sit around
all day and for four days since the brackets came out,
all you've gotten is everybody washing you up real good
about how great you are and how you're going to
be the team to crash through and break through. Michigan
certainly alongside Michigan State a lot of love for what
(48:19):
they've been able to do this year. For Texas Tech,
they're they're one of those darlings, right what we have
like maybe six or seven teams that people were picking
to win it all, and Texas Tech was part of
that bubble. So yeah, as you sit around all day long,
something to it, and your opponents have heard it.
Speaker 1 (48:38):
Right.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
That's the other thing is that that all goes up
on the opposite white board of all right, we're giving
no chance. Look what the point spread is. You guys
had a hell of a run. Go out there and
play basketball, you know, roll the ball on the court
and see what happens, and they've come out with great intensity,
good offensive sets, knocked down a couple of shots, and
what do you do?
Speaker 4 (48:58):
Everybody puckers.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
Meanwhile, Ucla, as we said, a big win for them. Look,
this is this has been a game that UCLA looked
like they were in trouble a little early in this game. However,
they just absolutely rolled past Utah State seventy two forty seven.
And I need UCLA has two speeds. They have two
settings in the NCAA tournament. The first setting is losing
(49:21):
the first round. Yeah, that's the The second setting is
have an unexpected run to the elite eight. Like, that's
the only two settings you have for UCLA. It's either
losing the first round unexpected run to the elite eight.
That's all you have. That's the only thing else.
Speaker 3 (49:33):
Well, and you got angry Mick Crone and his dad
was there enjoying it, an old hep getting it done,
eighty three years old fixture at the games, and you know,
gets a lot of celebrity and shoutouts. And we give
them one here because they spent an awful lot of
time looking in the crowd, especially as this one got
more and more distant. And it's not nearly as entertaining
(49:56):
to watch Mick Crone. And if it's not a close game,
he's pretty boring once.
Speaker 1 (50:00):
Yeah oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. You want
UCLA to underachieve, then you get the full Mick. Yeah,
the full mich Crona.
Speaker 3 (50:06):
Look, we talked about the NCAA, But what what is
a big part of the entertainment value?
Speaker 1 (50:11):
The volatility of the coaches?
Speaker 3 (50:13):
Sure, right, Caliperry losing his mind into the final minutes
of their game, great theater, Patino the first half of
this game, great theater. Right, you could have done a
picture and picture watching him and how many times he
adjusted the knot in his tie.
Speaker 1 (50:30):
Now, we talked about this earlier in the show. We're
going to get into it now. One of the biggest
moments of the day happened during a timeout between Creyton
and Louisville. Louisville had gotten called for a technical foul
and it was when the game was slipping away and
the Blue Jays were on there without a twelve point
lead late in the second half. They were gonna win
and move on. Louisville was gonna lose. Then a Louisville
(50:53):
fan got a little upset again.
Speaker 7 (50:56):
He's as intense as his player. Oh come on, come on,
somebody threw a bottle of water in the floor. Unnecessary,
that's going to be a clean up here. Come on, man,
that was a full bottle of water too.
Speaker 4 (51:09):
That was very dangerous and it went right over the
crazy bench.
Speaker 6 (51:14):
I'll tell you whoever did that, this should never be
allowed and to come into this and from the Louisiss side,
I mean, whoever sitting next to that person or in
that section needs to And.
Speaker 7 (51:24):
Then the police are going up there right now to
go handle the situation.
Speaker 1 (51:28):
That's aid. Joe's that neecessary. You tell him, Jim Jackson,
you tell CBS on the call there. You see the replay,
the bottle just flies out of nowhere off the baseline.
They have to stop the game to clean it up.
And you know, luckily it was a full bottle of water.
Luckily it wasn't thrown at someone, although a couple of
people said I kind of saw it hit the ground
and maybe felt a little bit of water coming out
(51:50):
of it, but luckily nothing happened. But I'm telling you,
I don't want to be the old guy at the
gas station telling the teenagers don't go in the woods
and have sex and smoke dope because there's a guy
where the machelle It's gonna kill you, but I will
because we're gonna get to a point where all of
a sudden, there's gonna be netting or some kind of
boards up at every professional sporting event. Right we're already
(52:11):
seeing it in Major League Baseball with the netting. You're
gonna see more up now as players, as fans want
to be part of the game. I can't believe Major
League Baseball didn't put something more in coming off the
Mookie Bets played from the World Series with the Yankee fans.
But this is what we're gonna get to, and there's
gonna be something that happens that's gonna be really unfortunate
that all the leagues are gonna say, well, all these
(52:32):
court sides see all these different things. We now have
to have glass partitions up. We don't have the unobstructed
view like you did, because we just can't trust it anymore.
We got to make sure that everybody is safe, the
players are safe. And this is what we are now
like as a society. We're angrier than we've ever been right.
We're angry all the time attacking cars. Yes, people wake
up angry. They're angry, angry at sports, angry at everything,
(52:55):
and we just can't behave at games like we used to.
And I'm telling you it's coming, and it's gonna be something.
You would think the mookie bets thing would be enough,
But okay, but that's what's gonna happen in the next
Within the next few years, you're gonna start seeing all
the professional sports, not the NHL because actually have the
the glass might go higher in the NHL, but you're
gonna see it at basketball games especially. It's gonna be
(53:16):
a big sight because you're not gonna be able to
trust that everybody can behave on the sidelines.
Speaker 3 (53:20):
So that's that curiosity of like, what's the tipping point, right,
because we've certainly from college football college basketball.
Speaker 4 (53:27):
The storming the court, storming the field.
Speaker 3 (53:30):
Issues have been long debated, right, And we've had a
couple of incidents of players taking the opportunity in their
frustration as they walk off to maybe give a forearm
shiver to someone passing by. But we've certainly had some
scary incidences. Obviously, go to tennis and you've got people
being stabbed on a court. So we've had a long history.
(53:50):
Hell the White Sox Royals game where you had the
first base coach getting attacked, So, I mean long history
of it.
Speaker 4 (53:57):
And you just wonder what's the tipping point.
Speaker 3 (54:00):
And while this is an innocuous thing and nothing transpired
and came of it, it's another data point. It's another
piece to the equation of all the things that need
to be considered when you're staffing and you're around I mean,
think about how many of these guys now have their
own security detail, plain closed guys that are already around you. Yeah,
it's not a fan behind Jessica got ready to taser
(54:23):
your ass if you make one false step your way
may help solve some of that.
Speaker 1 (54:28):
Telling you man, I'll be the old man. Oh there's
that guy. He's in the way. Do you know me?
You friends him? No, we just had this, you know
understanding that I need to make a living and he
doesn't come kill me. I don't go in the woods
and try to help anybody. So we're good. We have
an understanding. He and I. Did you watch that Josh
Hartnett movie too? Is that what's gotcha thinking? About this. No,
(54:48):
I saw that movie once and I thought that it
was a trap to get me to watch it, so
I'm not seeing it again.
Speaker 4 (54:53):
I saw about five minutes of it.
Speaker 1 (54:55):
No, and eleanor my older daughter, who loves just seeing
all the movies all.
Speaker 3 (55:00):
The time, came down and said, don't just don't get
I'm saving you. Watch another episode of The Simpsons or
Law and Order. Save yourself. Oh No, trap was the
traps worthy? Absolute words.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
That is so bad.
