No, that's ridiculous. I mean, look, was he been out
of control? Sure, there's still is a gality to it
and a body on him, but hey, the officials get
paid for a reason, and with a big run, sometimes
they get caught up in the emotion of things.

I'm gonna say it with all the sincerity of a
forty year old basketball player talking about getting kicked off

so they go to jump the ball, right because obviously

Karl Anthony Towns is now bent over at the waist,
not feeling great after, and Tim Hardaway Junior is screaming

to grab his chest. I don't know if he strained
a muscle or got punched or got hit, but uh,
he definitely looks like he's moving a step slow here

Thing where if you take a small fry and you
put it in the large container, it's really actually the

I mean, you get a nice box as opposed to
a little bag, so psychologically you're feeling a lot better
about your purchase.

Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. Or you feel like, hey,
I had the small fries. I'm feeling the same exactly.
Like I feel like that would be an easy thing
to figure out, right, Like that'd be an easy thing
to go. Okay, well here, I'm going to get a
small and a big fry. I'm gonna see if there's
enough small fry in the big fry and same thing.

Well, I mean, could you do it with sodas and
coffee cups or whatever else based on the shape of
the cup and where it gets wider versus narrower and
all those fun things.

The Knicks turn it over in the back court, uh

fourth quarter. So look, big NBA night, right, we got

the Nuggets and the Clippers coming up again, another elimination
game on the way, But today seems to be a
story a day for people who are not going to
be around who are not going to be around for
the playoffs, and at the top of that list is
Tyre's Halliburton's dad, who will not be around the Pacers
during the rest of their playoff run. Halliburton gets into

it with Giannis after the elimination game two nights ago
or Tyre's Halliburton goes in for a layup to win
the game. The final shot is no good from seventy
five feet away, and Halliburton's dad decides to get Giannis's
face hold up a towel with his picture on, and
this is what we blank and do becomes a whole
big thing, And now tyres Is dad will not attend

the team's home and road games for quote the foreseeable future.

So yeah, I.

Feel like we have the two big stories this a
week about scandal involve a guy who was way old
enough to know better and a guy who's defensive coordinator's
kid is twenty one, right, Like you got Jeff Ulbrick's
kid and you got Tyree's Haliburton's dad, and they're at
the the opposite end of the spectrum of hey, you
still should know a little bit better. But one guy
who's you know, in his sixties and one kid is
twenty one, You guy should still know better.

One costs the dad one hundred grand the other's dignity.
So it's the the idea for the pacers. Couldn't they
have just forced him into a suite? I mean, I
know it's not quote solving the problem, but do you
run the risk? I mean, is Haliburton with this facers

de beat in its own.

This is like rewarding a kid's behavior. The kid won't
stop crying, but I gave him ice creaming to stop crying. Okay,
oh you're not gonna be on the floor, but we'll
put you in a suite. Wait what Yeah, you get
to go.

In a sweet warning. Wait he doesn't to yell at
the other players.

Sure it is, you know, being down by the court
side infinitely better than a suite.

Dude, No, no, no, no, but not but.

To him, but not being at the game is the
big thing, right, that's the whole. But go into a suite,
that's not it that that's not a punishment that's like, hey,
we're gonna.

But it takes away his full enjoyment of it because
he's not on the court.

Doesn't really really, he's not gonna enjoy the game from
the suite. Really, he's not gonna do it.

Doesn't get to wave a towel at anybody.

I think you can still wave a time.

He's still gonna enjoy the game away from the arena
as well. Yeah, I mean no, it's.

I guess you're you're just deciding you've got to make
the ultimate in punishments and examples of him.

Well, you have to do something at least and say, dude,
you can't come to the games. That's that's That's what
it kind of has to be.

The only way you, guys, or anybody out there is
not enjoying as sweet as if they're allergic to delicious
beer and sandwiches.

Yeah, they load you up with all kinds of food
the dim Oh yeah, a great bathroom. You can use
it like hardly anybody that's fantastic.

And no one used a bathroom for another thirty five
to forty five minute. I'm like Pops sitting with the
spray in my hand, letting it go.

But you're telling me it's got the same juices being
sideline and screaming at the player.

But it's the sick but but you're still giving them
something good. It's a it's an incredibly soft landing, all right.

And I say this knowing what I'm gonna say.

Next to really, wait a minute, So you don't want
them to do that, but you wanted to be a
TV star. This goes back to my idea from a
couple of years ago. Right, all these different shows that
are great now reality TV. You know, all the different
shows with the wags and everything. Basketball Dads, right, Remember
I had that idea a couple of years ago, right
when the whole Eric Fox's Dad right going out like

Basketball Dads is a show.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
And you get.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Tyrese Halliburtons, and you get a whole bunch of dads
that are playing against other teams. You get him watching
games together, you get them feuding with each other, you
get him in the same room talking smack.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
About their kids each other.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
You put them next to each other in the games,
and obviously they know how to act on a reality show, right.
You don't just sit there and clap a go yeah,
it's great. Your kid is great, My kid is great. No,
they know I'm gonna get into it. And clearly, you
know a lot of basketball dad's a lot of bad
want to be part of the storyline.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
Okay, at least let's make a show out of it.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
I'm telling you Basketball dads and you get some of
these guys going in, Oh, my.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Good, it would be incredible. I mean everybody, everybody.

Would watch it go, oh, tonight, Oh, Lonzo's coming back,
and it's gonna be Oh, d'aron Fox is gonna play there,
Fox's dad and Lonzo ball.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Oh, here comes Halliburton's dad. He's got you.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
He's waving the towel in front of I mean, you
just gotta get like seven or ten dads and you
shoot like five or six episodes and it becomes it
becomes a huge hit. And then the next year it's like, oh,
now we're doing basketball dads, East Coast basketball, Dad's West
Coast basketball, Dad's Heartland basketball, Dad's Southwest.

You're doing all of them and it's fantastic.

No, I think there's money to be made here. I'll
profit off it.

But just like all the real housewives of this that
or the other, I won't watch a damn minute of it.
I can honestly say I've never seen a minute of any.

One of the executive pudn yeahh no.

We get casting, uh, based on the sports news. And
then it's like Brad Pitt in Moneyball. Oh I don't
watch the games.

I'll be on the treadmill while that prints money for me.

Yeah, exactly, see that. See that's how it works, man.
See suddenly I got you on board.

I'm on board philosophically, There's no question about it. I'm
just speaking for myself as a consumer. Not not my
cup of tea, but less unless they end up fighting. Nope,

But in terms of sitting down for the show, no,

Like we should patent that title because that's gonna be it,
like because we can't use NBA because then we'd have
to pay money to lay. But we did Basketball Dads. Boom,

it'd be just like the Real Housewives show, except basketball dads.

We just go state to state, region, region and suddenly
we start syncing up and we take over for the
NC douablea and now we're adjudicating things for them.

Becomes such a big, a big hit with the basketball
dads from the NBA. It's basketball dads in college and
basketball dads in high school. I mean, all of a sudden,
this is like a whole We have the MCU of
basketball dads.

All the way down to club sports. Yeah, all the
way down regional regional cable and uh, you know, YouTube
and everything else.

And now we got it.

Get into a regional cable channel near you. What do

You do know how TV works, right?

Sure? I do? Why turn the TV on? I find? Yeah?

Yeah, You don't think people are gonna sit there and
watch Levart.

Of course there will, because the kids are gonna be
in it, they'll be part of it, the players will
be of course people will.

Has that stopped How many ideas has that stopped getting
on television?

to be in over the top high brow. Oh this

down and suddenly we're gonna no how many big bed
zombie ass ripoffs have we seen? Doesn't matter. It's got

you put it on. People are gonna watch. Whether it's
on HBO, Max or on Sci Fi. Does it need
to be does it need to be a really over
the top smart idea? It can just be an okay
ideas and it makes money.

is h related to, there are a lot of people
wandering around that court, which is which is problematic because
you saw how close he got to to Jannis just
like that, and nobody came in to frame until one
of the teammates finally like, oh wow, what's going on

Karl Anthony Towns has fouled out of the game for

Big Bodega. However, the Pistons miss the layup, and it's
been a lot of mislayups from both teams in the

standing and watching and standing and watching, and Jalen Brunson
misses and suddenly it's up in the air, like that's
the entire Nicks offense. Sometimes it works, and sometimes they
hit a big three and it defies logic and expectation

wind up trading Luka Doncic and didn't want to give

he is out of shape, and they had had enough, right,
they had years to try to get him in shape,
and they said, Okay, when you're in your early twenties,

it's gonna be all right, but you don't take care
of your body, We're not going to give you three
hundred million dollars. But this is where things get better
for the Lakers, right, because I have no doubt, no
doubt that this offseason Luka Doncic is going to train
and his body's going to look different by the time
we see him again on a basketball court. When it counts,
and the Lakers are gonna make sure to be in

charge of that because Luca knows. Okay, I kind of
ran things in Dallas, right I was the real owner
I except you know, Niko had the power to treat me.

I didn't have to do what I didn't want to do,
and I didn't want to stay in shape. I wanted
to continue to hang out and drink beer and smoke

You got a couple of years left. The Lakers aren't
going to extend you right now. You need to show
that you're gonna take care of your body. The Lakers

three most talented players in the game. But I have
no doubt because it's the change of scenery and the
change of expectation, We're going to see a different Luka
Doncic in mentality, stamina, and body when the Lakers play
again in the fall.

sense that there's any design coming from anywhere others than
jail in Brunston's own head, when in terms of what
he's trying to get to and his ability to just
continually consistently create the spaces necessary and for the most part,
he's not finishing at the rim, he's not finishing over guys.

with everything that that Jalen was doing, leading the Knix
and making big shots. But Cave missed a couple down
stretch in a couple of games and Jalen Brunson did not,
and that ultimately ended up I think being a big

probably a little bit a little bit bigger, but Brunson
can get his own shot off the end and every
game for step it's the same. A big defender is
thrown at him, and he's trying to give that peekaboo
pass under somebody's arm. He can't get his own shot,

which again, it's just it amazes me that these are
the guys are the same. We talk about Steph Curry
and the talent he has. Now he can shoot, he
can't get his own shot off, and Jalen Brunson can.

It's a it's a very look that the first round
has become knockdown dre out for almost every single team.

How do you see the Knicks and the Celtics.

I think it's going to be a I do think
it's going to be a tough series. You know, I'm
I'm gonna favor.

Boston, But the question is health.

I do think that they need Drew Holliday back and
playing for them to uh forget to the the finals.
I don't I don't know that well, I don't know
that they need him necessarily to win this series. The
big question, the big matchup for me is going to
be for Zingis and and Karl Anthony Towns and how

the two respected teams. I don't know that they're going
to guard each other, but which which of them is
ultimately more effective. The other part is, and this has
been the Knicks weakness against the Celtics, you know throughout
the season, is is just the size on the perimeter

(49:57):
and the three point shooting ability. The Celtics haven't done
look at what the numbers are, but anecdotally the Celtics
have an edge on them in terms of their three
point shooting and then just the matchups of the size
with Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown on the wings, they
can shoot over a Josh Hart no matter how hard

(50:20):
he works, and that's going to be the talent. I
don't know how the Nick find a recipe recipe for that,
because Ojan Andobi can guard one of them, but that's
going to leave the other one with presumably Josh Hart,
and that's going to be an advantage for the Celtics.

B plus a minus going into the playoffs, but he failed.

that he did. And it's not that he lost the
series because I the Minnesota Timberwolves Christinch is a better coach,
The Timberwolves had a better bench at this point as
far as a two way player, and Edwards is better
than either Lebron James or Lukadac. So there were a

multiple multitude of things. Defensively, overall, Timberwolves better have more size.
The right team won, and I don't know that the
Lakers could have done anything different, but they lost in five.

I would say largely because jaj just couldn't sort of
got stuck in his ideas and when they didn't work,
he stayed with them anyway, starting with you know, not
starting Jackson Hayes and I'm not going to play Jackson
Hayes in Game five, and then ultimately I think the
whole series turned on playing the five starters the entire

(52:32):
second half in Game four. And I understand it's three
to one, et cetera, et cetera. But you had a
Lebron James who faded and was scoreless in the last
six minutes of the previous game. Why would you think
that playing him all twelve minutes in the fourth quarter
of the next game was going to produce anything different.

(52:53):
There was just a lot of decisions made that didn't
make a whole lot of sense and so and then
to be sensitive about you know, being asked about those
decisions doesn't doesn't help the matter. So I give him
a C plus. Overall, he was better than I expected
a first year head coach to be and and he

(53:16):
handled the Bronni James thing about as well as it
could be handled. But ultimately, could they have done a
little bit more in the postseason and was he the
culprit for the reason that they didn't. That's I have
to put that in his seat.

Speaker 1 (53:34):
All right, Rick, last, So let's do this now again,
getting you set for the facility tomorrow morning. If I
said to you, give me one big prediction for the
Lakers this off season, whether it's Luca Shape Lebron saying
I'm coming back, they add another star. If I said
give me one prediction you feel really good about for
the Lakers in the off season, what would you give me?

Hmm, that's a good question. I would say that we
will see some sort of trade package that involves Dalton
connect going to get a big man. Maybe that's not
Mark Williams, but gets the kind of rim Runner Love

threats that Luka Doncics absolutely needs fifty two million coming
Lebron's way. I don't see him. I don't see him
opting out of that, And I don't see the Lakers
telling him, Hey, if you do opt out, we'll give
you two years for a little bit less, you know.

I see that as him opting in and that being
his last year.
